- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Sachi.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hey guys, I'm Noah and we're Sachi six from Los Angeles, California.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Beautiful, well done, Thank you so much.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Look, firstly, I just want to get the question about
- 0:14Speaker 3: your band name out of the way. I know this
- 0:15Speaker 3: is a question that a lot of musicians kind of
- 0:18Speaker 3: don't like. But obviously, such is six SUCHI is your name?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Is there a special meaning behind the number six?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yes, so the number six. It comes from my dad's
- 0:29Speaker 2: baseball number, and that was just a number that I
- 0:32Speaker 2: grew up looking at, and obviously, to me, that is
- 0:36Speaker 2: my hero. I love my dad and I love having
- 0:39Speaker 2: that sense of someone to look up to, and I
- 0:41Speaker 2: kind of wanted to, like, you know, give that to
- 0:43Speaker 2: anyone else that wants it. So yeah, number six.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Wow, that's beautiful. I had no idea.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I thought you were going to say something like related
- 0:51Speaker 3: to six six six or the Devil.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So that is really good.
- 0:55Speaker 3: N Oh, that's wonderful. And look, uh, brutalist. Brutalist is
- 1:02Speaker 3: such a loaded title. What does brutalist have mean to
- 1:04Speaker 3: you in the context of this record?
- 1:08Speaker 2: I feel like it truly just describes the sound. Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 2: you can relate it back to the architecture of like
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, brutalist architecture, and like that's a big point
- 1:17Speaker 2: of our visuals. But I think for a standpoint on
- 1:22Speaker 2: the music, you have this you know, super pop forward
- 1:25Speaker 2: sound with this brutal element, and it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Works both ways.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Whether it's a super heavy sound that and like when
- 1:31Speaker 2: we say heavy, we mean emotionally heavy, and like the
- 1:34Speaker 2: pop element can slap against that and it's brutal. The
- 1:37Speaker 2: sound is just what it is, So there's no better
- 1:40Speaker 2: way to recall it than just brutalist.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 4: For me, it's like a it's like the title like
- 1:45Speaker 4: takes you to a place in the album, like it
- 1:48Speaker 4: gives you a visual for what you're hearing, you know. Yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 4: all of the artwork, all of the videos, all of
- 1:56Speaker 4: it is just like so much world building gone into
- 1:59Speaker 4: it just to give the listeners a place to transport
- 2:04Speaker 4: themselves to to listen.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well said, And definitely with the music video,
- 2:08Speaker 3: especially for covered, which by the way, is one of
- 2:11Speaker 3: my favorite songs at the moment. So if you see
- 2:13Speaker 3: an uptick in views on that song in particular on YouTube,
- 2:17Speaker 3: you can thank me.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah and all your other songs. Yeah, you're right,
- 2:22Speaker 1: But yeah, with the music videos.
- 2:24Speaker 3: You guys definitely have created such a like a visual
- 2:29Speaker 3: landscape that really transports you into It's quite eerie, but
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's also beautiful, I guess, that brutalist landscape.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean yeah, when you look at the
- 2:40Speaker 4: lyrics and then the architecture behind it, it all goes
- 2:43Speaker 4: hand in hand. Like the lyrics make you feel exactly
- 2:46Speaker 4: where you are when you're looking at it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And your sound blends R and B and metal in
- 2:54Speaker 3: a way that feels intentional, not just experimental.
- 2:57Speaker 1: What was the moment that you realize this few and
- 3:00Speaker 1: actually worked.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Ego?
- 3:05Speaker 2: But I feel like like when it comes to like
- 3:09Speaker 2: our music, like our entire discography, Like I feel like vocally,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I've always wanted to like sing more in that nature
- 3:17Speaker 2: that's just like what I grew up singing, and like
- 3:20Speaker 2: I've always been too singy for emo, too singy for
- 3:22Speaker 2: post hardcore, you know what I mean. And I feel
- 3:24Speaker 2: like having that that R and B background vocally, I've
- 3:28Speaker 2: always wanted to like let that take it, take it,
- 3:30Speaker 2: shine to it. And when Noah started cooking up all
- 3:34Speaker 2: the all the production for like like these round of songs,
- 3:38Speaker 2: I feel like it really found its form and it
- 3:41Speaker 2: complements it in the in the there's no better way.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Yeah, his specific style of vocal wasn't on these songs.
- 3:50Speaker 4: It wouldn't make it what it is because of how
- 3:54Speaker 4: insanely it co exists together. Like you can take all
- 3:59Speaker 4: of the thought, all these stuff that we do and
- 4:01Speaker 4: the trap beats, and you can hand it on to
- 4:03Speaker 4: someone else, but it's not gonna exist without either one
- 4:07Speaker 4: of us doing exactly what we specifically do. You know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: Like I can't pick up a guitar, Like the first
- 4:15Speaker 4: thing that comes out of me is a weird Bendi riff.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And that's how it's been for a long time. I
- 4:21Speaker 4: was in a band before COVID and we were doing
- 4:25Speaker 4: all the drop tune stuff. I had a guitarist who
- 4:27Speaker 4: was like the biggest north Lane Voidavision fan, just like
- 4:30Speaker 4: a lot of us are, and he like put me
- 4:33Speaker 4: onto this world of like extended range guitars and crazy
- 4:37Speaker 4: drop tunings and this different style of playing. And it's
- 4:40Speaker 4: always been in the back of my head. And now
- 4:44Speaker 4: years later, like when we started diving back into heavier music,
- 4:49Speaker 4: like I cannot play anything besides that. So it's just
- 4:54Speaker 4: born out of genuine interest to this new sound that's
- 4:59Speaker 4: come out.
- 5:00Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, that's really interesting everything you just said,
- 5:04Speaker 3: because I was imagining from your perspective. Noah, here in
- 5:08Speaker 3: Sachi's voice and as you're a guitar player, Like was
- 5:11Speaker 3: it a big were you at first? Like how the
- 5:13Speaker 3: hell am I gonna put these heavy this heavy guitar
- 5:16Speaker 3: to Sachi's voice?
- 5:18Speaker 4: Well, no, because I was like, let me try to
- 5:21Speaker 4: follow his voice with the guitar. And there's some riffs
- 5:24Speaker 4: where like the riff is just what he sang, but
- 5:28Speaker 4: it's it's transposed to the guitar. Like if everyone's doing
- 5:32Speaker 4: all these bendy riffs, like why not treat the guitar
- 5:35Speaker 4: like its own vocal? Yeah, like those music what you
- 5:40Speaker 4: say touching.
- 5:41Speaker 2: A lot of the songs are made in different ways too,
- 5:43Speaker 2: where it's like some songs off this album started I
- 5:46Speaker 2: think like only like three of them started by me
- 5:50Speaker 2: sitting here singing over a sub bass with like minimal
- 5:53Speaker 2: trap drums over it, just like a little pre hook
- 5:56Speaker 2: or a hook. I would send him the whole session.
- 5:58Speaker 2: He would make the entire song like the rest of
- 6:01Speaker 2: the instrumental everything, and then send it back and I
- 6:04Speaker 2: would just two track it like a rapper, just like
- 6:06Speaker 2: punch in over it like that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like or it would start, he.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Would just make the instrumental, send it over and I
- 6:12Speaker 2: would just write over it like.
- 6:13Speaker 4: That, and then he'd send it back and I would
- 6:15Speaker 4: make changes from there. But it's also like like when
- 6:19Speaker 4: like on songs that like I have his voice before,
- 6:22Speaker 4: it's like there's a different window of opportunity there where
- 6:26Speaker 4: like if I start the song, like I'm just getting
- 6:29Speaker 4: whatever is in my head out as fast as humanly possible. Yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 4: that's just how both of our brain works.
- 6:36Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:36Speaker 4: He when he's recording, he has to be in the room,
- 6:38Speaker 4: locked alone, thinking about these things very intensively.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I have to be with the zack spot. Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just like having an idea before opens up
- 6:51Speaker 4: this new window where like I can treat his voice
- 6:54Speaker 4: as the lead riff, you know. Yeah, Yeah, there's there's
- 6:58Speaker 4: some there's some stuff you know, like we're constantly making music,
- 7:03Speaker 4: but there's some stuff that is just like we'll just
- 7:06Speaker 4: be playing around with and he'll sing something into a
- 7:09Speaker 4: foe coder and it just will become the riff. You know,
- 7:12Speaker 4: your tune so low, your guitar is like a bass
- 7:15Speaker 4: you know, you can bend into those notes easier and cleaner,
- 7:18Speaker 4: and you get something really insane out of it. And
- 7:22Speaker 4: I think that for me that's a very defining moment
- 7:24Speaker 4: as a guitar player, that like I have a window
- 7:30Speaker 4: of opportunity to try and separate ourselves from the rest
- 7:36Speaker 4: of the crowd.
- 7:37Speaker 1: You know, yes, definitely that.
- 7:39Speaker 3: When I first heard you guys, at first, I was
- 7:41Speaker 3: like confused because I heard Sachi's voice and I'm like,
- 7:44Speaker 3: this is like like the R and B sort of
- 7:46Speaker 3: pop style, and then like we get hit with that
- 7:49Speaker 3: heaviness and it's just it is truly.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I've never heard anything like it, to be honest.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I mean there are bands that have done, you know,
- 7:56Speaker 3: sort of similar stuff and like they're good, but yeah,
- 7:59Speaker 3: you eyes it just.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yeah, we're really trying, dude. It's it's we're just trying
- 8:05Speaker 4: to be as genuine as possible. And I think that
- 8:07Speaker 4: with like Brutalists, we both found ourselves musically so so
- 8:14Speaker 4: much more deeply than we had prior with other music.
- 8:18Speaker 4: It feels like, you know, like everything that we've made
- 8:21Speaker 4: up until up until Brutalists was really us carving out
- 8:25Speaker 4: who we are. And what we want to be going
- 8:27Speaker 4: forward and us imagining where we're gonna land, and I
- 8:31Speaker 4: think that we could have not found a better landing ground.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah, And I will say, like even back to what
- 8:37Speaker 2: Noah was saying before, like we don't like how like
- 8:41Speaker 2: I have to be here alone, he has to be
- 8:42Speaker 2: in there alone. Like we don't write together. It's like
- 8:46Speaker 2: if I'm if I'm doing something, I'll send it over.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I leave him alone to get all of his ideas out,
- 8:51Speaker 2: and then he leaves me alone to get all of
- 8:53Speaker 2: my So we we genuinely did like find ourselves more
- 8:57Speaker 2: and more like as the album was, you know, being made.
- 9:02Speaker 4: It's it's so it's so funny too because we've had
- 9:06Speaker 4: this talk before so many people, because to some people
- 9:08Speaker 4: that's such a weird and like distinct way to write.
- 9:11Speaker 4: But like giving each other that space as artists allows
- 9:14Speaker 4: us so much more room to grow independently, which only
- 9:18Speaker 4: takes you stronger together because of the space you allow
- 9:21Speaker 4: each other. And it's also it's not even space, it's
- 9:24Speaker 4: like confidence in each other. Like I can't hands that
- 9:28Speaker 4: you over something, and in my head I'm already like, yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 4: he's gonna crush this I'm gonna get back something insane
- 9:33Speaker 4: and then it's the same thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, We're
- 9:36Speaker 4: be like, all right, this is gonna be wild, like
- 9:38Speaker 4: we already know what we know exactly what we're going
- 9:41Speaker 4: what each other is going to do to that song.
- 9:44Speaker 1: That's crazy and the formula like obviously works. So yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's a really creative way of doing things.
- 9:51Speaker 3: And you guys, it sounds like you guys are all about,
- 9:53Speaker 3: you know, experimenting and pushing those boundaries, not knowing if
- 9:56Speaker 3: it's gonna work that way, but it does, so keep
- 9:58Speaker 3: it like that, I think.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Beautiful.
- 10:02Speaker 3: And was there a track on Brutalists that really challenged
- 10:06Speaker 3: you creativitly, creativeticularly creatively or emotionally. And just to side note,
- 10:12Speaker 3: I love the track names on this record, and I
- 10:14Speaker 3: had to look up what baser Rexio was and then
- 10:16Speaker 3: I was like, oh that's me.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I feel like for me a song that
- 10:22Speaker 2: kind of challenged me emotionally the second half of Perfidy
- 10:31Speaker 2: like once it uh like that's the ender track, once
- 10:34Speaker 2: everything kicks in. I feel like it was just like
- 10:37Speaker 2: not that it was hard to be vulnerable or convey
- 10:40Speaker 2: the emotion that I that I wanted to. It was
- 10:42Speaker 2: almost just like that whole song just came so seamless
- 10:47Speaker 2: that it was like I'm just feeling all the emotions
- 10:50Speaker 2: as I was writing it, and I was kind of
- 10:52Speaker 2: just like, this is overwhelming, but I love every second
- 10:55Speaker 2: of it. For me on on on behalf of no Vocals,
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think Uneven I think Noah's Noah's vocals, and Uneven
- 11:05Speaker 2: I think written me to pieces. So it's like, I
- 11:08Speaker 2: I love to just listen to that emotionally, that one
- 11:12Speaker 2: is devastating.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 4: I don't know which one. I honestly I think it
- 11:16Speaker 4: all for me all goes back to Ego. Mm hmmm,
- 11:20Speaker 4: just because that was like the moment where we.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Like, like when.
- 11:24Speaker 4: We did that song, we were like, oh, like this is it,
- 11:27Speaker 4: Like this is like that was that is the first
- 11:29Speaker 4: one that we did, right was Reverie was the first one,
- 11:33Speaker 4: the one okay, So Reverie was like the starting point.
- 11:37Speaker 4: We were like, Yo, this is crazy because it was
- 11:40Speaker 4: very still in the same world as Limerens, but it
- 11:43Speaker 4: was just coming out of it. So it started carding
- 11:47Speaker 4: the new direction. But like when we when we made Ego,
- 11:50Speaker 4: that was like, Yo, what this like we were. We
- 11:55Speaker 4: were like, yo, we have not heard something alike this ever,
- 12:00Speaker 4: many things like it, but nothing like that, you know
- 12:03Speaker 4: what I'm saying. And Yeah, that one was like the
- 12:08Speaker 4: hammer the nail For me, I was like, oh yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 4: And then Sachi's focus went on it and I was like,
- 12:11Speaker 4: what the fuck, dude, kind of courage, Yeah, yeah, what
- 12:16Speaker 4: is what the fuck is that? That's insane?
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yes, exactly exactly my emotions. Listening to you guys for
- 12:22Speaker 3: the first time. I was, yeah, Okay, I have to
- 12:25Speaker 3: wrap this up really quick because we've got like two minutes,
- 12:28Speaker 3: but I have to talk about you guys touring Australia
- 12:30Speaker 3: for the first time.
- 12:31Speaker 1: With nothing nowhere. What are you excited about seeing here?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited to see everything because it's my first
- 12:39Speaker 2: time going Noah's been. I want to see some kangaroos,
- 12:43Speaker 2: I'm trying to see some koalas, i want to see
- 12:46Speaker 2: the beach. But also I'm just really looking forward to
- 12:49Speaker 2: like the crowds and everyone that comes to the show.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Is because Noah's held Australia to the standard that nothing
- 12:55Speaker 2: meets it, so I just want to see it.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I love Australia so much.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Oh, beautiful and have you come here before on tour
- 13:02Speaker 3: or just as.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I was playing guitar for a little notice
- 13:06Speaker 4: and we got like the real special treatment. We were
- 13:10Speaker 4: out with the Ocean Sleeper and they like set everything
- 13:13Speaker 4: up and destroy all lines, ash and jests. Literally the
- 13:18Speaker 4: greatest tour guys from a distance. Everybody treated us so nice.
- 13:21Speaker 4: We got taken on. It didn't eve feel like tour,
- 13:23Speaker 4: It felt like vacation. Yeah, the most insane experience in
- 13:28Speaker 4: the world.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Oh, I'm so glad that you love it and we
- 13:32Speaker 3: cannot wait to have you guys here. I watched your
- 13:34Speaker 3: tour bus, your bus Invaders interview and some really cool things.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That your fans have made you.
- 13:39Speaker 3: But what is the coolest thing, in your opinion that
- 13:42Speaker 3: a fan has given you.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, there's a bunch that's so cute. But
- 13:53Speaker 2: this is one that I have on me every day.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Did they make that themselves?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that's gorgeous.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Uh, our fans made us a nothing nowhere Zigon at
- 14:04Speaker 4: the end of tour with all like our merch spread,
- 14:08Speaker 4: all the pictures, all the people that came up into
- 14:10Speaker 4: guest vocals, like pictures that all the fans took with us.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I got a little no, it's all oh at oh.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Wait at our at our headline show, one of our
- 14:23Speaker 2: fans put together. They had all of our other fans
- 14:26Speaker 2: Noah has them uh put they all wrote individual letters
- 14:30Speaker 2: like congratulating us on our first EP and headline show,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and we read them. When we got home. We were like, sobbing,
- 14:36Speaker 2: that's the cutest thing.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Looks that we keep everything.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we keep everything. It's it's so cool. Somewhere.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Oh, I put the Pokemon card in the frame.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Hold on, I've got to see these.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Hell yeah, what.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That is? Sick?
- 14:58Speaker 3: That is.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I don't really think Pokemon guy. I grew up on it,
- 15:03Speaker 4: so I was like, yo, that's crazy.
- 15:14Speaker 3: M
