- 1:19Speaker 2: you stay in h Are you staying cool in North Mississippi?
- 1:21Speaker 2: How are you?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm trying the best I can. It's it's it's it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: pretty rual right now. But I keep telling myself that
- 1:29Speaker 1: we're maybe like a month and a half, maybe a
- 1:31Speaker 1: little bit more away from that, like true fall weather.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know the thing is is we get
- 1:37Speaker 2: both ends, right, So we get really hot now on
- 1:40Speaker 2: the other side of the sandwich, the other piece of
- 1:41Speaker 2: bread really cold in December, we get just a small
- 1:44Speaker 2: window of really good weather.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Right. Yes, but I will take cold. And I might
- 1:50Speaker 1: be the minority on this. I will take cold any
- 1:52Speaker 1: day because I can. I can warm up easier than
- 1:55Speaker 1: I can cool down. That's that's that's my logic. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: easier that it's a bun up and it is to
- 2:01Speaker 1: stop sweating.
- 2:02Speaker 2: No, fair enough, fair enough, I can. I can go
- 2:04Speaker 2: with that. All right, Let's let's get an ole miss
- 2:06Speaker 2: football first. Let's go the most important thing health. Any
- 2:10Speaker 2: updates on injuries or no injuries, kind of the health
- 2:12Speaker 2: of the football team.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's pretty status quo in terms of
- 2:17Speaker 1: what we kind of knew before, in terms of guys
- 2:20Speaker 1: that were expected to have gotten there to be back
- 2:25Speaker 1: out there after the spring from getting stuff cleaned up.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We're all good, and of course you're you're going to
- 2:29Speaker 1: get some guys here and there who just are being
- 2:32Speaker 1: held out for precautionary reasons. But it does not sound
- 2:36Speaker 1: like there's anything any anything major of knows that anyone
- 2:39Speaker 1: should be worried about, at least as of now.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Obviously, Trinidad Chambliss, I thought where he made first team
- 2:46Speaker 2: All American team from the athletic uh, he's got several
- 2:49Speaker 2: of those now pre season awards under his belt. Kewan Lacy,
- 2:52Speaker 2: the guy shares the backfield with him, what kind of
- 2:55Speaker 2: season if he stays healthy, what kind of season can
- 2:57Speaker 2: he have?
- 2:59Speaker 1: It's interesting, I mean, because I think in a perfect world,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and the offensive coordinator John David Baker has mentioned this,
- 3:06Speaker 1: he doesn't want Keywon Lacey to get three hundred and
- 3:09Speaker 1: six carries. Again, he led the nation last year and carries.
- 3:13Speaker 1: He had three hundred and thirty five total touches and
- 3:17Speaker 1: I believe was also the most in the nation because
- 3:19Speaker 1: of the catches and whatnot. But but that doesn't he
- 3:23Speaker 1: still wants us to get the same number of touches,
- 3:26Speaker 1: which means that okay, well, if he's getting less carries,
- 3:28Speaker 1: that needs he's catching the ball more. I think that
- 3:31Speaker 1: you know, obviously he's he's your guy, he's your playmaker
- 3:34Speaker 1: back there. You're going to give him the ball. But
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know, there were probably some times when he needed
- 3:40Speaker 1: a breather and they didn't feel like they could afford to.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And now I think they feel like they can because
- 3:45Speaker 1: they've brought in some really good running backs with you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: with big time of experience and production. So you know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: is it possible he runs for fifteen hundred yards again,
- 3:55Speaker 1: of course, and maybe more efficiently because he's got a
- 3:58Speaker 1: little bit more juice. But I wouldn't be surprised at
- 4:01Speaker 1: all to see maybe like less rushing but more receiving,
- 4:07Speaker 1: because by all accounts, he's a tremendous receiver, and I
- 4:11Speaker 1: think that's another part of his game that, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 1: if he can get him on the field with some
- 4:15Speaker 1: of these other backs, I think you're just putting the
- 4:18Speaker 1: defense in a really tough spot. So I think that
- 4:21Speaker 1: if he stays healthy, he is an All American.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He is.
- 4:25Speaker 1: He is a first round pick. He is, he is.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He's in a Doak Walker conversation, I think I think
- 4:31Speaker 1: he's the real deal.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Visit with Michael Katz talking Ole Miss football Ribs in
- 4:35Speaker 2: camp getting set for next weekend as they'll take on
- 4:38Speaker 2: Louisville in a classic game, neutral site ball game. We'll
- 4:41Speaker 2: get with Kats of course about that next week. One
- 4:43Speaker 2: of those backs you talked about, I believe youre talking
- 4:45Speaker 2: about Makai Frasier. He comes over from Michigan State. He'll
- 4:48Speaker 2: be a junior five ten, about two hundred and twenty,
- 4:51Speaker 2: a really big back, I mean, a nice size back.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I believe he had one hundred and sixteen carries for
- 4:55Speaker 2: five to twenty last year, two touchdowns. You know, played
- 4:59Speaker 2: in nine ball games. But the most important thing he
- 5:01Speaker 2: ever right at four and a half yards per clip.
- 5:04Speaker 2: He could be that complimentary back or someone else.
- 5:07Speaker 1: For Yeah, I mean, I think what's so what's so
- 5:13Speaker 1: rare about Key one is you know, obviously if he's fast,
- 5:15Speaker 1: he's got track speed, but he's also just a physical bruiser,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and you know, finding that combo is hard, and so
- 5:23Speaker 1: I think they've done a really nice job of finding
- 5:25Speaker 1: guys who can do some of those things. And I think,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, Frasier is again he was productive at Michigan State.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You know that's the big ten is a it's they've
- 5:36Speaker 1: won they they won a lot recently and he was
- 5:39Speaker 1: very productive there. He's a powerful guy. You look at
- 5:43Speaker 1: him and and he looks like he's he can run
- 5:46Speaker 1: between the tackles, and so I think between that and
- 5:50Speaker 1: you know, bringing in Josh Diye who ran for eighteen
- 5:53Speaker 1: hundred yards at Southern Utah Chicai Mills Knight is still there.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I mean, you've got a lot of backs who I
- 5:59Speaker 1: think can help take the load off to keep Kewan fresh.
- 6:04Speaker 1: But no, I think the bringing in a guy who
- 6:07Speaker 1: has produced it at a in a major conference, to
- 6:11Speaker 1: like Fraser, it's really really big because then you're not
- 6:15Speaker 1: afraid to take Kewan off the field or put them out.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Why if the situation calls for.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It, Deuce Alexander returns. This is the big target on
- 6:24Speaker 2: the on the field. I know they got a couple
- 6:25Speaker 2: of transfers and Daryl Gill and John ta Cook who
- 6:28Speaker 2: come over from Syracuse, talk a little bit about the
- 6:31Speaker 2: depth of that wide receiver room or is it something
- 6:34Speaker 2: like a lot of units around the country where you know,
- 6:36Speaker 2: we know there's dudes out there. We don't know the
- 6:38Speaker 2: Pekan order yet, but we're going to find it out together.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it reminds me a little bit of last year
- 6:45Speaker 1: in a way, like last year we knew that they
- 6:48Speaker 1: had Kaden Lee, and this year we know that they
- 6:52Speaker 1: have Duce Alexander. You feel pretty good about what you're
- 6:55Speaker 1: going to get from those guys, though, I do think
- 6:57Speaker 1: there is another level to doce Alexander's game. I think
- 6:59Speaker 1: he's going to have a really big year year two
- 7:02Speaker 1: in the system. I think he's dynamic. I think there's
- 7:06Speaker 1: definitely more UH for him on the field. But you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: we you know wenew De, Shanna Stribling and and Harrison Wallace,
- 7:14Speaker 1: we we're good players. I don't I don't think we
- 7:16Speaker 1: knew quite what was in there and they emerged and
- 7:20Speaker 1: so it's really big playmakers. And so I think there's
- 7:23Speaker 1: there's a few guys. John say Cook has been one
- 7:25Speaker 1: of the guys we we've talked a lot about and
- 7:28Speaker 1: heard a lot about, and you know, he was a
- 7:30Speaker 1: five star kid coming out of high school and it
- 7:33Speaker 1: just hasn't come together for him completely. And uh, he's
- 7:37Speaker 1: a guy who if it, if it clicks, and he's dynamics.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Horatio Fields is another guy. The Auburn transfer and before
- 7:45Speaker 1: that he was actually at Wake Forest with Duce Alexander.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I think he's a good side speed guy to to
- 7:55Speaker 1: have out there. So I think there's a lot of talent.
- 7:59Speaker 1: How exactly it all kind of divides up, and you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: who ends up with nine hundred yards, who ends up
- 8:04Speaker 1: with whatever. I'm not sure I'm willing to go there yet,
- 8:09Speaker 1: but I do think that I'm confident that this offense
- 8:14Speaker 1: and sure that Shambliss are going to have a lot
- 8:18Speaker 1: of really good options one because they always almost always
- 8:21Speaker 1: has really good wide receivers and you've got, you know,
- 8:25Speaker 1: the best quarterback in the country back there. I think
- 8:27Speaker 1: they're going to be just fine.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Got a couple of minutes left here with Michael Katz
- 8:31Speaker 2: talking all Miss camp ReBs open it up next week
- 8:33Speaker 2: against Louisville neutral site ball game. As we get ready
- 8:36Speaker 2: for game week, all right, Defensively, we've talked about Centterion Perkins,
- 8:40Speaker 2: and we've talked about Cam Franklin and some of these guys.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It looks like by reports that Ole Miss may be
- 8:47Speaker 2: deeper this year. Defensively, bring over a safety from Georgia
- 8:50Speaker 2: and Florida State. You know, they've got some returners on
- 8:53Speaker 2: the on the corners. Talk a little bit about the
- 8:54Speaker 2: depth of this defense and what it may look like.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think that even if you're just
- 9:00Speaker 1: looking at like the the quote unquote starters on the
- 9:05Speaker 1: defensive front, you're already feeling really good because you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: you've got Echols and and Cam Franklin and depending where
- 9:11Speaker 1: you want to classify, sin Teron Perkins as an edge
- 9:14Speaker 1: or a linebacker. But then they brought in a lot
- 9:17Speaker 1: of really talented debts in the portal from big name programs,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, purchased from Oregon and Reynad from from Alabama.
- 9:26Speaker 1: They brought in a lot of guys. I think where
- 9:28Speaker 1: we're really gonna see a difference is in that linebacker room.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You know, obviously they they lost j Dottery, but bringing
- 9:37Speaker 1: in you know, Keaton Thomas and Luke Farrelli and and
- 9:39Speaker 1: having Perkins there, I think that is a chance to
- 9:42Speaker 1: be a really really talented linebacker room. Uh. You know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Farrelli and and and and and Keaton Thomas have been
- 9:48Speaker 1: extremely productive. I Philly Thomas was second team All Big
- 9:51Speaker 1: Twelve last year at Baylor, and Frelli was the acc
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, rookie of the Year. So I think that
- 9:58Speaker 1: that room has a chance to be really really good good.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And then you know in the secondary, you've got your
- 10:03Speaker 1: two top corners back and Antonio Kite and Jalen Braxton
- 10:06Speaker 1: and Blaxton's healthy now and it's gonna you know, he
- 10:09Speaker 1: can play safety, but I think you probably want him
- 10:11Speaker 1: a corner. You brought in more corner help. Jim Crawford
- 10:16Speaker 1: is a really talented guy. Uh, And then of course
- 10:18Speaker 1: you brought in those safeties as you mentioned, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: big time talented guys who have played a lot of
- 10:23Speaker 1: football at a high levels. So you know, the conversation
- 10:26Speaker 1: has kind of been like, is this defense as good
- 10:28Speaker 1: as the twenty twenty four defense? And it's gonna take
- 10:30Speaker 1: a lot to be that good because that defense was
- 10:33Speaker 1: second nationally and scoring and leb the nation and sacks
- 10:37Speaker 1: per game and the number two rush defense. I mean,
- 10:39Speaker 1: all these insane staffs. You know, is the top end
- 10:43Speaker 1: talent going to be quite as good? I don't know.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I mean Walson Nolan and Princely Monniellen and Poop Paul
- 10:48Speaker 1: were pretty incredible and training emos, but I think that
- 10:52Speaker 1: there's some really talented players on this defense. And it's deeper,
- 10:55Speaker 1: like when you have to take a guy out. You're
- 10:57Speaker 1: okay with it because the next guy coming in is
- 10:59Speaker 1: gonna get the job done. And I don't think there's
- 11:01Speaker 1: always the case of the twenty fourteen.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Make sure to follow him on X check him out
