- 0:00Speaker 1: Different ways to handle grieving. It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm strong, and one more thing.
- 0:10Speaker 3: It's an impactful topic. Yeah, heavy, perhaps.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Kind of Well, I don't know if it's so much
- 0:17Speaker 1: because we're gonna play a clip a story about Conan O'Brien. Actually,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I don't know if this fits in or not. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: remember when I was reading Christopher Hitchen's book When He
- 0:27Speaker 1: Got Cancer, which made an impact on me. Then when
- 0:30Speaker 1: I ended up getting cancer not long after it is
- 0:34Speaker 1: he said it's okay for me to make jokes about
- 0:37Speaker 1: my cancer, not okay for other people to make jokes
- 0:40Speaker 1: about my cancer. So it's God, there's a bit of
- 0:42Speaker 1: that when you're when you're talking about grieving, uh, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 1: death or whatever it is you're grieving or illness or
- 0:52Speaker 1: something like that. The the person involved kind of gets
- 0:55Speaker 1: to set the bar for how far we're willing to
- 0:58Speaker 1: go with this generally.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Well, and it's very very different coming out of someone
- 1:04Speaker 3: else's mouth, even if they like, see where the bar
- 1:06Speaker 3: is and think, Okay, now I can make a joke.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Roughly now you can't.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Just don't.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But I have quite a bit of leeway with like
- 1:15Speaker 1: where I would be in terms of joking around about
- 1:19Speaker 1: very very serious subjects, just kind of the way I'm built.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm not even close to where Conan O'Brien is, though
- 1:25Speaker 1: he's about to hear from the sty I always liked
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Conan O'Brien show. I think he's absolutely brilliant. Wrote
- 1:31Speaker 1: for The Simpsons, went to Harvard, wrote for Saturday Night Live,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and then had his own very successful talk show. Now
- 1:36Speaker 1: he does a podcast, video podcast, and he has guests
- 1:39Speaker 1: on all the time. The voice you're going to hear
- 1:41Speaker 1: talking to Conan will Arnett from Arrested Development.
- 1:47Speaker 3: He was also a very very funny guy.
- 1:50Speaker 1: What was his name on Arrested develop Job? He was
- 1:53Speaker 1: the brother job yet the magician anyway, and they're talking
- 1:57Speaker 1: about Conan O'Brien's parents. Conan had a great relationship with
- 2:00Speaker 1: his parents, which is important to the story because it's
- 2:02Speaker 1: not like he hated his parents, ade that he talked
- 2:04Speaker 1: about him all the time. His parents both died really
- 2:08Speaker 1: close together, like really close together, at the same time.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And so they also mentioned the star of Arrested Development,
- 2:18Speaker 1: Jason Bateman is involved in this and the texting and
- 2:21Speaker 1: everything that goes on, and I think that's enough of
- 2:22Speaker 1: a setup to understand the story.
- 2:24Speaker 2: This is real personal subject for you in the family,
- 2:28Speaker 2: my parents as well. First, let me just say the
- 2:31Speaker 2: timeline because I have it here. I wrote it down
- 2:33Speaker 2: last year because the timeline was so good. And so
- 2:38Speaker 2: I hear that that your your dad passes away, and
- 2:41Speaker 2: I text you that day or the next day, and
- 2:44Speaker 2: I said, hey, listen, I'm sorry to hear about your
- 2:46Speaker 2: dad's passing, sending love from our family to yours, and
- 2:48Speaker 2: you wrote thank you. Will to be honest, I blame
- 2:52Speaker 2: Bateman for the death of my for the death of
- 2:56Speaker 2: my father. The day after his father dies, yeah, so
- 3:00Speaker 2: I wrote, it's not a terrible theory, and con texted
- 3:03Speaker 2: me back, he killed my dad, my dad, can I say,
- 3:10Speaker 2: in fairness, my dad would have loved.
- 3:12Speaker 4: This so so so uh so then Baban Baban, I
- 3:21Speaker 4: tell Babman this, we're dying.
- 3:22Speaker 2: We're doing a thing that day, so he the next day,
- 3:24Speaker 2: Bateman texts you and he says, Arnette tells me you're
- 3:28Speaker 2: on to me, yes, and ConA texts baby. He says, Baban,
- 3:33Speaker 2: do yourself a fan favor, turn yourself in.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Two days after your dad passes. Of course, your mom
- 3:44Speaker 2: passed away yeah, which we didn't. I did not see coming,
- 3:47Speaker 2: but did not see coming. So I text you two
- 3:51Speaker 2: days after I knew you were a boss. I said,
- 3:54Speaker 2: Bateman is asking for your sister street addressing.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, give yeah, And you were busy that weekend,
- 4:07Speaker 5: and like a day and a half later, you're texted
- 4:09Speaker 5: back just seeing this now fantastic six twenty five Boston Street,
- 4:13Speaker 5: Department twelve's.
- 4:14Speaker 2: He tell Bateman to make it look like a robbery.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Okay, that's the whole thing. Oh, I agree, that is
- 4:26Speaker 1: so pretty. Can you there?
- 4:27Speaker 2: You go?
- 4:28Speaker 3: H that is some pretty edgy joking. Yeah, that's just
- 4:34Speaker 3: that speaks to their relationship. I guess that's that's crazy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Codan's response, Bateman killed my father.
- 4:46Speaker 3: That's wow. I would not be engaged in that. I
- 4:51Speaker 3: take it that he's like one of those people where
- 4:53Speaker 3: that's actually healing for him.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he actually he actually, after they talk about
- 4:57Speaker 1: some other stuff, he actually said that's the way I grieve.
- 4:59Speaker 1: He said, that's just way I'm built. I mean that
- 5:01Speaker 1: that was helpful for me to do that.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm fair enough, but that's that's at the very.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Edge man of a push on that sort of thing. Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: there's my sister's address. Make it look like an accident.
- 5:19Speaker 3: You know what really pisses people off who deal with grief,
- 5:23Speaker 3: like grief counselors and and and and ministers and what
- 5:27Speaker 3: do you call my mom? Was one chaplain at like
- 5:30Speaker 3: a hospice or something. Is where somebody watches the news
- 5:33Speaker 3: story and says, uh, you know, whether it's I think
- 5:36Speaker 3: they did it or they're something, because nobody acts like
- 5:39Speaker 3: that after their husband dies or their wife or their
- 5:43Speaker 3: mom or whatever. That's not the way somebody would act,
- 5:47Speaker 3: because everybody has a different way of processing. You know.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Some people just go to pieces and stay in pieces
- 5:54Speaker 3: for a while and pounce right back. Some people remain
- 5:56Speaker 3: very very stoic. They've got to keep it between the
- 6:00Speaker 3: es for a while, you know. So yeah, that's freaking hilarious.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And I just I'm trying to picture that like in
- 6:09Speaker 3: my own life somebody else And if my brother initiated it,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I would be all in. But I'm not sure I would.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Think to initiate it.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Wow, what was the initial blast? I blame Bateman or
- 6:26Speaker 3: something like that, because Conan initiated it, obviously, that's funny. Well,
- 6:34Speaker 3: I guess that's it.
