- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: about it but didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: have the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Hey astrology lovers, welcome back.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We are here for another all-new episode,
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: and today we are going to talk about decanates and twelfth parts.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Twelfth parts are also often called dwads, among other names.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I might use them interchangeably today from time to time, but just know that they're the same thing.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So decanates and dwads, or decanates and twelfth parts, same, same.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: This topic actually came at the suggestion of a listener from a while back.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: One of you,
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I think it was over the summer,
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: but I could be off by a bit because honestly the last few months have become a bit
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: of a blur,
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: but one of you listening,
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: whose message I can no longer find,
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: but I do remember it,
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: sent me a message asking if I was going to talk about
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: decanates, which I thought was a great idea.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So thank you, whoever you are.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I hope I can find your message and reach out to you to let you know that I'm covering your topic.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And I also thought that while we were talking about decanates,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: it would be a good idea to also talk about dwarves because the concepts around each
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: of these things overlap.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So some of you may already know about either decadates or dwads or maybe both.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: If you do,
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I would suggest that you listen anyway,
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: because there are some different methods and different ways of thinking about these topics.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And so you might hear something today that is still new to you.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: If you don't know much or anything about decanates or dwads and you're thinking,
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: oh my gosh,
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: what on earth is she talking about?
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Then you're in for a treat.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: I'll be honest, this might blow your mind just a little bit.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Because when I first learned about these things a few years ago, it kind of blew my mind.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I'm not kidding.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: It did.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: I started taking an interest in astrology or learning astrology as a teenager and
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: learned a lot of stuff in bits and pieces over the years,
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: and I don't know if I truly hadn't
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: heard of them or if I just didn't pay much attention to them.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: But it wasn't until around,
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know,
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: 2020 or so during the pandemic,
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: when I really started delving into the study of astrology on a deeper level that I
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: found out about decanates and then later dwads.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And it gave me a much different perspective on myself and on signs and sign placements in general.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And, you know, they aren't talked about a lot in pop culture astrology.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: You tend not to find much mention of them in,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: say,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: a sun sign horoscope or even in a forecast based on your rising sign.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: But they're there nonetheless.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So what are they, you might be asking?
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: What are these odd-sounding things?
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: to put it simply,
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: both decanates and dwads are ways of subdividing each zodiac sign into even smaller
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: sections in order to capture a fuller,
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: more complex,
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: richer,
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: and ultimately a more precise picture of a particular placement in a chart.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: That could be a planetary placement or an angle or a node or a sensitive point or anything, right?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Everything in a chart has a precise placement based on its exact degree and minute
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: and its precise placement within that zodiac sign will change the flavor slightly.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: This is one of the reasons why you might hear someone say things like,
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: well,
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I don't really believe in astrology.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I don't really see how it can be real because I'm a Taurus and my good friend over there,
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: she's a Taurus too,
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: and we're nothing alike.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I'm just such a textbook Taurus and she doesn't even really seem like a Taurus at all.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: So if astrology worked and we're both Tauruses, wouldn't we be more alike?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And of course,
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: if you've been listening to these podcasts or you've been learning astrology on a
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: deeper level anywhere at all,
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: then you know by now that there could be lots of reasons why two Tauruses could be very,
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: very different from one another.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Each of these two people,
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: unless they were born at the exact same time on the exact same day in the same part
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: of the world,
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: are
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: are going to have different rising signs, different moon signs.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: The planets are going to be in different signs, in different houses, forming different aspects.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe one has Venus conjunct their sun and the other has Venus square their sun.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Or,
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: she has Pluto square the sun when the other person doesn't have Pluto aspecting
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: their sun at all.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: The nodal placements will be different and on and on and on.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: But what's also true is that if two Tauruses have their sons in different decanates
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: or different dwads within the same sign of Taurus,
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: and they most likely will,
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: they are going to be different flavors of Taurus.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: The decanates and the dwads change the flavor of the torus energy that you're getting.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: So let's explain each one of these both mechanically and energetically.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: We'll start with decanates.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Decanates, sometimes also called decans, divide each individual zodiac sign into three distinct parts.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: As you already know,
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: each sign makes up 30 degrees of the zodiac wheel,
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: or 30 degrees of your natal chart.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And decanates further divide a 30-degree sign into three parts.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: The first deconate is the first 10 degrees of a sign.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: The second deconate is the second 10 degrees of that same sign.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: And the third deconate is the last 10 degrees of the sign.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And remember that each sign starts at zero degrees, not one degree.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: So actually, zero to nine degrees is the first deconate.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: 10 to 19 degrees is the second, and 20 to 29 is the third.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: This is how they work mechanically.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about them energetically.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: There have been different methods used to assign meaning to each decanate across the millennia.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: The method we're talking about today is what's more commonly used in modern Western astrology,
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: and it's the triplicity method or the triad method.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Triplicity in astrology simply means grouping the different signs together based on element.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Remember the episode of the show way back when we talked about grouping the signs together by element?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: We have three fire signs, three earth signs, three air signs, and three water signs.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: That's what we're talking about when we say triplicity.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: It's groups of three.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So there are three signs associated with each element.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: There are three decans in each sign.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: So there's a decanate representing each sign in the element that the overarching sign belongs to.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: So if we're talking about Aries, Aries is a fire sign.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: So we're dealing with three fire signs.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: And there's an Aries decanate, a Leo decanate, and a Sagittarius decanate.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: All fire signs.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Using someone's sun sign as an example,
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: really you can do this with any type of placement or any planet,
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: but we'll use the sun for right now.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: If you were an Aries sun...
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: You could be a double Aries,
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: which would mean that your sun is in both the sign of Aries and also in the Aries decanate.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Or you could be Aries Leo, meaning that you're an Aries sun, but in the Leo decanate.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Or you could be Aries Sagittarius, meaning you're an Aries sun, but in the Sagittarius decanate.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Now, the decadate does not, does not override the fact that you're an Aries sun.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: I want to make sure I'm crystal clear on that point.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: If someone has an Aries sun,
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: then first and foremost,
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: they are an Aries sun,
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: and they're always going to be an Aries sun.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: The decadate does not change that.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: But it does add a subtle layer of additional energy that creates a little more
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: nuance and more depth within a person's personality.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So how do you know what deconate your sun or moon or any other placement is in?
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Well, fortunately, it's pretty easy to figure out.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: The first deconate is always, always, always the same sign as the overarching sign that it's in.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: So the first deconate of Aries is Aries.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: The first deconate of Leo is Leo, and the first deconate of Sagittarius is Sagittarius.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: So you always start with the same sign you're already in.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: The second deconate is whatever the next sign is in the same element if you're
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: going counterclockwise around the natal chart wheel or the zodiac wheel.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And the third deconate is the next sign in that element that comes after that, after the second one.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Again,
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: if we're talking about fire signs still,
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: and your sun is in the sign of Aries,
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: then the deconates are Aries,
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Leo,
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Sagittarius,
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: in that order,
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: first,
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: second,
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: third.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: But if you're a Leo sun instead of an Aries sun,
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Now we're in the sign of Leo.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Then you would start first with Leo, and the decanates would be Leo, Sagittarius, Aries, in that order.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: And if instead you had a Sagittarius sun,
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: then you'd start with that sign and the decanates would be Sagittarius,
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Aries,
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Leo,
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: in that order.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: So whatever element you're working with,
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: start with the sign you're in and go counterclockwise by element from there.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: I did put a cheat sheet on my Substack page in case you want to look at it.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: It lists the decanates in order for all 12 signs.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So you don't even have to think that hard about it once you get this cheat sheet in front of you.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: That's linked in the show notes.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: It will take you to the page for this episode where you can view or download that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Now, you can look at decanates for all sorts of things in your natal chart.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I would start simply maybe with your big three, your sun, moon, and ascendant line.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Or possibly, if you want to do this, maybe your big six.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: That would also include the personal planets, which are Mercury, Venus, and Mars.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: And when you know what decadate you're dealing with,
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: there are a couple of ways you can use that information.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: The first would be just to think about that extra layer of energy and how it
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: applies to your personality or your attitudes or your overall approach to life.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Is that energy showing up for you?
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Being a double Gemini or a Gemini sun Gemini decanate is going to make you look a
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: lot more like a classic Gemini than a Gemini sun in the Libra decanate or the
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Aquarius decanate.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Those folks are still Geminis, still Gemini suns.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: But rather than doubling down on that Gemini energy,
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: they're weaving some different colored threads into that tapestry.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: It's going to look different.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: What has that meant for you in your life?
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Does that change the way you understand yourself?
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Maybe it does.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Another thing you can do is check to see where the sign of that particular deconate
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: is in your natal chart.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: What house does that deconate sign rule in your chart?
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: If your Gemini sun is in the Aquarius deconate of Gemini,
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: so it's kind of a Gemini-Aquarius hybrid energy,
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: What does Aquarius rule in your chart?
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: So maybe you have your Gemini sun in the 10th house.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: It's in the Aquarius decanate of that sign.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: And you then see that Aquarius rules your 6th house.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: That could mean that the matters of your 10th house,
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: like say your career or your public image or status...
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: are more heavily tied to the matters of the sixth house.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: That's the house of work and the daily grind.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: So it would stand to reason that your daily job,
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: your daily grind,
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: the work you do every day,
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: is heavily tied to your standing in society or your public image.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Your work is
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: brings you notoriety in your career through that 10th house sun where you have the ability to shine.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Or another way to say it is that your ability to shine in your career with that
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: 10th house sun is going to come through the actions that you take in your life and
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: the work that you grind out each and every day.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Makes sense, right?
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: So look to see how the matters of the house ruled by your deconate sign could be
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: tied back to the main sign.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: You could also consider the planet that rules the deconate sign and see where that is.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: In the same example with the Gemini Sun Aquarius Decadate, Aquarius is co-ruled by Saturn and Uranus.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: So where are Saturn and Uranus in your chart and what are they doing?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Because what they're doing may be tied to the matters highlighted by the Sun placement.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So again, with that Sun in Gemini in the 10th house, look at where Saturn is.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Look at where Uranus is.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe you have Uranus in the third house.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: So perhaps your career,
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: that 10th house career,
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: might be tied somehow to activities pertaining to the third house,
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: like writing or communicating or something like that.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Just examples.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: That secondary planet that rules the decanate might not be as powerful an indicator
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: of career activities as Mercury would be because Mercury rules Gemini,
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: the overarching sign.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: But I'd look at it second and maybe it will give you some additional information to
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: help you piece things together.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that covers decanates.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about another way to create subdivisions within each sign,
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: because decanates are not the only way we can do that.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Another way that we can divide each sign into smaller parts that tell a more
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: detailed story is by using something called 12th parts.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: or dwads.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Twelfth parts or dwads can be called different things, by the way.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: It mostly amounts to the same thing, at least by my understanding.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: The word dwads is often spelled D-W-A-D-S or sometimes D-U-A-D-S.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: And dwads or twelfth parts
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: are pretty much what they sound like.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: You're dividing each zodiac sign into 12 different parts because 12 parts or 12 parts.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: When you're dividing a sign into 12 parts, that creates the twads that span two and a half degrees each.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: They're small.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: They're little.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Just two and a half degrees each.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: So again, you're breaking the sign into 12 smaller parts.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And these 12 parts are each ruled by one of the 12 zodiac signs.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: So if you just try and think that through for a second, two and a half degrees per section.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: multiplied by 12 sections, one for each sign, equals 30 degrees, or the span of one whole sign.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And by the way,
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I've also included in the handout for this episode a cheat sheet for 12 parts also,
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: so go ahead and take a look at that if you find this confusing.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: It might help.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Just like decanates, you always start with the sign that you're already in.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: So if you're talking about the sign of Scorpio,
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: the first two and a half degrees of that sign are the Scorpio part or the Scorpio
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: dwad of that sign.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: And then you go in order of the zodiac signs every two and a half degrees from there.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So any placement between zero degrees and two and a half degrees of Scorpio is the Scorpio Dwaad.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Any placement between two and a half degrees and five degrees would then be the Sagittarius Dwaad.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Any placement between five degrees and seven and a half degrees would be in the
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: Capricorn Dwaad.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: And then after that,
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: there's the Aquarius Dwaad and the Pisces Dwaad and so on and so forth until you
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: get through all the signs.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: You can use this information in the same types of ways that I talked about for a deconate.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: So everything I just talked about, you can apply that thinking here as well.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: And again,
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: this method,
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: this way of breaking single signs into smaller sections adds more flavor and nuance
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: to a chart.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: And really to us, that's what we're talking about here.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: The influence of the decadates is kind of subtle.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It might not be as in-your-face as the overarching sign itself, but it's there.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: And it's part of what makes our personalities and our perspectives very layered and complicated.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: We know humans are very complicated beings.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: One other thing that I think is very interesting about subdivisions is that it can
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: possibly at times improve things and make things slightly easier to deal with if
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: the planetary placement in question is in fall or in detriment in the overarching sign.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So as an example of what I'm talking about here,
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: I've said on the show before that I have my natal Venus,
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: my chart ruler,
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: in fall.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: I have Venus in Virgo.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: which,
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: can be very useful in certain ways,
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: but difficult in others,
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: because Venus doesn't really get to behave in very Venusian ways when she's in Virgo.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Virgo is too analytical for relaxed, pleasure-seeking Venus.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: But if I hone in on this placement,
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: and I look at the deconate and the dwad of this placement,
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: well,
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: then things get interesting.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: It's at three degrees Virgo.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: So it's not only in Virgo as a sign, but it's also in the Virgo decanate.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: So that's double Virgo.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: It's in fall twice.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Uh-oh.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: But there is some good news because at three degrees, it's also in the Libra twad.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And Libra as a sign is ruled by Venus.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: So it's in a twad that it rules.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: It's in fall in the sign,
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: but it's in a duad that makes it feel very comfortable,
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: which can soften this placement and perhaps make it a little bit easier.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I think of this as being like visiting a city that you don't particularly like.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: The city is not the vibe for you.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: But you have a really lovely hotel room to stay in,
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: and the staff there are trying their best to roll out the red carpet and make you
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: feel welcome while you're there.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: That's kind of what I imagine in my head or what I see in my head when I think of this concept.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Another analogy that I have sometimes thought of when I'm imagining how signs,
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: decanates,
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: and 12 parts come together is like a pot of soup.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: So imagine you're in your kitchen and you decide to make a pot of soup.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: And more specifically, you have decided to make tomato soup.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And you're doing it from scratch.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: You're not using a canned product.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: You're making your own soup with real ingredients.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: you can have regular old tomato soup that doesn't have any other distinct flavors
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: in it other than tomato.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: But you may decide that you don't want just plain tomato soup.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Maybe you decide you want cream of tomato soup.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: So you've got your soup.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: It's tomato.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: And you decide to add a cup of cream to that soup.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: It's still tomato soup.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: And you haven't turned it into anything else.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It isn't cream soup.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: It's definitely tomato flavored.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Tastes like tomato.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: But now you've also layered in another flavor.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: There's a little more complexity to it now, right?
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: It's tomato soup that's a little bit different than it would have been without the cream.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: And then let's say you keep going and you taste it again and you decide,
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: I think I'd like to add some garlic to this soup.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: So you saute a little garlic and you add it to your cream of tomato soup.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Again, still tomato soup.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Anyone who tastes the soup is going to recognize this as tomato soup.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: But now there's some cream and now there's also a slight hint of garlic flavor.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: It's not garlic soup.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: It's still tomato.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: But if you focus on it,
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: if you think about the flavors,
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: you can detect that there's a little bit of garlic in it.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Now, obviously, in this analogy, the tomato soup is the overarching sign.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: The cream might be the deconate and the garlic or your herb of choice might be the twat or the 12th part.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: They're not turning it into a whole completely different thing.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: They're just adding more complexity to the flavor and you can detect it.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: before I learned about these concepts,
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: I had had a few people over the years ask me if I was a Pisces.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: And I always thought that was strange because I don't have any Pisces placements in my chart.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: None of my angles or my planets are in Pisces.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: And so at the time, I just thought, huh, well, you know, I do have a lot of water in my chart.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Cancer sun, Scorpio moon, other planets in those signs too.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: They must just be detecting the water element.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I'll bet that's what it is.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Or maybe it's because, you know, Pisces rules my sixth house and that's how I respond to day-to-day life.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's it.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: That could be what they're getting.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: imagine my surprise eventually when I learned that if I'm accounting for decanates
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: and dwads,
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: I actually have quite a bit of Pisces energy in my chart.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: For starters, my Cancer Sun is in the Pisces decanate and the Pisces dwad.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: So that's a Sun that's essentially Cancer Pisces Pisces.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: My Ascendant line in Libra is also in the Pisces dwad.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: The sun and the ascendant are the two most visible parts of a person to other people,
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: and both of them carry Pisces energy,
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: in my case.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: So in hindsight, it's no wonder that some people picked up on that energy.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: So take a look, y'all.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: See what you find, because you might be surprised and fascinated by it.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: All right, that is it for now.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: I'm going to wrap this up.
