- 0:04Super excited. Yesterday we dove into setting goals. The one thing is. It's not that difficult to actually take some time to do that and make a list and you can make a big list and then all of a sudden it seems super overwhelming that's not the overwhelming part it's when you're looking at that list and it's how do I get to that next step and that's actually taking the action from it and this is what we're going to dive in today is really understanding How to most effectively take action to the words, those goals and achieve them, whatever it is, if it's personally, or if it's professionally, you really got to take the time to start working towards them.
- 0:05And one of the biggest things I've seen from many, many people, and even myself is Make it too overwhelming. Make it like this goal that we're trying to accomplish. You got to finish that day, but we, a lot of us now, even me, there's a lot of instant gratification. I'm starting to learn that now it takes time for good things that happen.
- 0:06It doesn't happen overnight. And when I look back in history, And, and decades and centuries ago of people, what they have done, the things didn't happen overnight. The change didn't, didn't happen overnight. And the ways you can strateg strategize on it is maybe break them down on some of the most, your most important goals.
- 0:07Some of the ones that are least mo, uh, least important. And then break it down is which ones do you want to accomplish the most? And then from all that, that task list or those goals lists, you want to understand which ones you, you need to accomplish, which ones you want to accomplish, and which ones would be good to accomplish.
- 0:08You know, there's always different ways around it because when you look at the list and you go, Oh, I got a hundred goals that I want to accomplish. It doesn't mean you cannot accomplish them. You're just going to make sure that they're within that spec because if it's something that's going to take you, They, like it says, I want to make a million dollars and all of a sudden it's next month and you don't, you make 30, 000 a year.
- 0:09It's not going to just happen to that next month. So you got to build that plan. So how to be actionable on that or take action to get to those goals. And really the biggest thing that really changed for me and affected me. Is scheduling my time for the goal. So breaking them down and being able to schedule the time.
- 0:10So specific times to work on that step one. And I, I used to, I don't know if I used to say this, but I know I hear it a lot. Now it's like, well, I don't know where I'm going to be Trevor. You know, I'm, I'm in service and I could be anywhere that day or that week, but you know, you've been doing it long enough to understand.
- 0:11Your routine. Most technicians, they'll have a routine. They know on Monday morning, they'll get up at whatever time they need to get up. They get their, they go either to the office to wait for some service tickets, or they wait for a call from dispatch, and then they go start deploying their service.
- 0:12Usually they're home at a specific time. So I always tell people, what is your, what's your time? What's your, what's your office time? Or what's your work time versus what's your home time? What are you doing? And this is, this is where you start to, to, to break in to the habits of scheduling your time and anybody can do this.
- 0:13You can do this even if you're a technician in the field, but it comes back to that mindset thing. Oh, it's, I can't do it. I don't have the time. I'm always here. I'll never know where I'm going to be. That's just excuses. Huge excuses because when you're driving to a site, you could be listening to that specific thing to help you get to your goal.
- 0:14So you can schedule that while at work. You could say, okay, on Monday, I'm going to start this podcast. So if you're not using a schedule right now, I highly recommend getting into one. You just got to start being diligent to put some of those goals inside there and break it up. So if it's a yearly goal, just say, okay, I want to save a thousand dollars that year because I want to purchase something for my personal development.
- 0:15I want to purchase an education course. I want to, I need to get something for my family, whatever it is. It doesn't even matter what it is. I need a payoff debt. I want to put an extra thousand on my debt. Well, what do you have to do in that 12 months? To be able to each month, put it almost, you know, close to a hundred dollars away each month to get down that debt, to pay off that credit card, whatever it is.
- 0:16And this is how you start to take that action. First step is making the goal. Second step is actually doing it. Will you break that goal down into small actionable items? Will you start scheduling yourself and then scheduling yourself in these small bite sized pieces? Where now you can start achieving those goals managing those goals Because that is one of the key things that I see a lot of people Not being able to be diligent about and really be determined resilient.
- 0:17There's a lot of stuff to it accountability To okay. I want to set this goal. I want to complete this and I need to do this, you know But once again, it's easy to fall off track And it's harder to get back on, but that's up to you. It's all, it's all a mindset for yourself. You tell yourself that you want to do it.
- 0:18If you've done it once before, why can't you do it again? That's the big thing. If you've done it once before, why can't you continue to do it? Another big thing is probably setting priorities to take those actions. This is another big thing, and I highly recommend, like, if you are in service, so if you do a lot of service work, the number one thing that you could really start helping yourself, as well as helping your business, is be more diligent on your timesheet.
- 0:19This stuff is still not super easy. Is it easy? Yes, it's easy. But it's not super easy if you've never done it before and never spent the time to do it. When you start to do it and start to develop these habit, it's going to get easier. And when you start to take action on it, you're going to be more, you will be more accountable to yourself because when it comes to habit, you're like, oh man, I didn't do that.
- 0:20Or. Man, I did do that. And a lot of times we're always thinking the things we didn't do. You got to start reflecting more on the things you did do. It's like, man, I did that. I, I too, I set the goal. I took the action and now it's working out. Start to reflect on the stuff that you do, because I think that is really key to more people's success.
- 0:21A lot of people are looking at. The things that they didn't do right, the things that they did wrong, or the things that people said they did wrong, that they can't see what went well. There's so many things that I really believe that we can take more action towards to accomplish those goals. You got to set yourself up right.
- 0:22It may take a few months to really detail that out from reflecting on what you want to actually do. Because there's a lot of things that you, I'm sure you're thinking in your head that you want to do, but realistically deep down, That might be coming from somebody else. Might be coming from a family member.
- 0:23Might be coming from social media. So you really have to sit down and reflect. And this is hard. Sitting down and really thinking about what you want. What stage of life you're in. What your situation is. You got to really look and say, Okay, how do I pivot what I'm doing now to where I want to be? And is this what I really want?
- 0:24Is this is something I really want that's going to make a change for the better in my life? As well as the people around me, it's like, and sometimes you have to get away from the people that are around you, but starting with that, those goals to really Get into the action taking and the habits of moving yourself to the next step.
- 0:25Shifting. It's a real, it's a shift. But once again, it comes back to the mindset on how you want to change yourself. Nobody else. It doesn't, don't think about anyone else. A lot of people are influencing you. You got to learn how to influence you, not somebody else. And just think about that. And I think that comes into a lot of the reflection.
- 0:26Other great ways to be more, uh, to accomplish more of the goals by taking action is leveraging technology. This is, we're an amazing time right now with all the different technologies. Yes, it can be overwhelming, but once again, that comes back to you on potentially overwhelming yourself. Because you can block stuff out if you want.
- 0:27You can shut off the Facebook. You can shut off Instagram if you want. You can put your phone away if you want. Or you can use it effectively for you. Not sitting on YouTube and watching it for three hours at work. So that's not the right way to do it. How do you leverage technology now? As you get in and understand different tools that can help you be accountable.
- 0:28So for example, you can have reminders or tasks on your phone. You can have alarms on your phone. You can have different apps where you're using your calendar. Now there's lots of AI stuff. AI is super cool. There's lots of people that don't like it. Lots of people that do. I think it's really cool. You want to embrace it.
- 0:29How is it going to help make your life better? So getting to these goals is taking that action. How do you take that action? Well, you may be, it's like we talked about, he said in the, you break them down into small, uh, attainable goals. You set some time on it by putting them in the calendar. You'd be accountable by different reminders.
- 0:30And maybe you have to put four or five reminders in your phone for that day every day. Did you do this? Did you do this? Did you do this? Did you do this? Did you do this? You know what I mean? And just really punish yourself until you get into that habit of actually doing that. I'll challenge all of you, all of you right here, right now.
- 0:31How many of you eat really healthy all the time? You know, you eat vegetables, you eat fruit, you eat things that are healthy for you. Are you eating burgers all the time or fries and pizza? Something that's easy? Donuts? You know, you just go and you because you're working all the time. It's like, oh, I don't have time to to have a healthy lunch or I don't have time to sit down and order a healthy lunch or Or it costs too much.
- 0:32That's all that is excuses. Right there. I've seen it time and time again. It's just an excuse because I did the same excuse. Oh, I don't have time. I'm working nights. Um, so I only can eat at, uh, A& W or McDonald's or whatever is open in the middle night. That's just an excuse. There's no reason I couldn't go to the grocery store on the weekend or in my time off or after work and buy Proper food healthy food and make it that week and I've done it for years.
- 0:33I've done it for years I do it now for my kids all the time. I make them lunch every day There's no reason why you cannot do it either get up 30 minutes before well I'm too tired to get up won't go to bed earlier That's it. You just need more sleep. We'll go to bed while I'm working 14 hours a day.
- 0:34Well, you still got 10 hours of the day. So figure out how you can get six hours of sleep. And then the other four hours, figure out the family time, the stuff you have to do around the house, the stuff you have, bills you have to pay, whatever it is. But this is scheduling yourself. It comes back to really scheduling yourself.
- 0:35It's only you that can change it. Step one is, okay, this weekend, I don't know your schedule, if you work nights or day, it doesn't even matter. Step one is making a plan. Writing that plan, what, what do you like to eat that's healthy? You know, a lot of the times, I didn't stop for lunch. There, there's years I feel like that I didn't really stop for lunch.
- 0:36I'm sure I've done, but I was like eating in the van going to the next job site. And I've done that, or I stop at Tim Horton's, or stop at McDonald's and pick stuff up. And I realized that that wasn't good for me. One time, I know, I think I gained like 35, 40 pounds on one job because I've, that's all we did because I was following everybody else.
- 0:37They were like, Oh, we're going to go eat, eat out every day. It was construction jobs. So all we did was go out and eat junk food every day. Eat hamburgers. We'd order a pizza. And that's what I did for months and months. And all of a sudden I came home and my wife was like, whoa, what happened? What happened?
- 0:38Right. It's seriously. And it was like, yeah, what did happen? And then I had to put the work in to lose all that weight, start eating healthier. The thing is, is that planet, you can cook rice on Sunday and have rice each day. There's lots of different strategies, but you got to sit down and do it and just get into habit.
- 0:39Say, I'm going to do this every day, taking that action. A few other things that I haven't talked about, you got to reward yourself. So you set those goals, you accomplish those goals. You got to sit down and reward yourself. You got to say, listen, I did it. This is awesome, because most of the people are on to the next thing, on to the next thing, on to the next thing, and they don't feel like they're accomplishing anything, even though they're accomplishing all this, because I, I, I do it sometimes myself, even now.
- 0:40I, I do it. So make sure that you spend some time to be like, Man, I accomplished this goal, and say, What I'm going to do now, Is I'm going to go to the driving range. That's my goal. No, that's my reward. I'm going to take myself to the driving range because I accomplished it. Or I'm going to play a game with my kids.
- 0:41You know, that's my goal. Like I'm going to sit down and spend time and play a full game of Monopoly with my kids. That's my goal. That's my reward for the goal that I set. You know, or I buy myself a personal development book that I want it because I've set a goal for myself and I said, if I, if I've accomplished this goal, I'm going to buy a Jim quick book, limitless, whatever it is, you know, think and grow rich by Napoleon, you know, I can name books off tons of time, take some action, small action.
- 0:42It could be even putting that water beside your bed every day. So, you know, you have at least one glass of water every day. See everyone.
