- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the i&team series and your daily influence and today we're talking about how to lead in this age of disruption and through all the uncertainty that we are facing as leaders and as individuals.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's become with the political environment and the economic environment just all of the things that we've been facing there's a lot of uncertainty out there and how do we steer our teams in our self for that matter through this what I'm going to call the age of disruption.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I have three points that I am going to share that I think really can help us individually and as leaders and with each other to get through these times and embrace this uncertainty, this change and look for opportunities for improvement.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: And the first thing is is that
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: brings.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Each of them creates this ripple effect of influence.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: And if you can align that understanding of what their capabilities are and what their advantages are and what they bring to the team, if you can align that with a shared vision, shared vision of the organization, shared vision for each individual person on the team, each group of individuals on the team.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: them to take responsibility for that influence, encourage your team to act with intention to be resilient during uncertainty, to look at some of the challenges as opportunities to look for areas of improvement.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: You can build during these times and you can grow your organization and you can grow each individual within your organization all at the same time.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: And as a foundation for that, I would push for you to embrace smart.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: The smart process, the smart management model that we teach here at IA and at the I&team series, leans into being specific and having measurement and attainability and understanding attainability and realism and timeliness and using smart to strategically plan and to tactically think can help guide your team through these disruptive periods because it keeps them focus
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're always understanding the specifics and the measurements, then you can understand what's attainable and what might not be attainable.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: What is relevant and what might not be relevant and is it timely?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the right time to do things?
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: So lean into smart.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: And even in chaos when we leave into smart, and we use smart tools to guide us, to help plan, to help strategize, to help create goals, to develop tactics.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: When we do that, we end up with a clear path and a path that we understand.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And even if there's a lot of noise going on around us, being smart can help keep our lanes clear for ourselves and for our teams.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then when we're in those lanes,
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: have a culture of transparent communication.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: When you do that, when people know where they're going, when they know how they're going to get there, because we're being smart.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: And when we have this transparent ability to communicate with each other, we build trust and openly sharing the challenges that you have.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: When those roadblocks comes up, when the disruptions happen, when somebody gets off on an off ramp,
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: and digresses and goes in the wrong direction and you pull them back, but when you pull them back in a smart way, and they know that you're communicating in a clear and effective way, you build that trust with each other and be empathetic to the struggles.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: Listen actively, listen to learn about your teams, understanding the troubles they're facing, the challenges they're facing, the fears they have, how the uncertainty is influencing them, at an individual level and an organizational level.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: and support them through that guide them through that with these tools.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Provide for them that foundation, which can help give them clarity, but most of all, the confidence to move through these times, to come out the other side, improved, and better.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: These are opportunities for us to get better.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: When we have uncertainty, when we have disruption, especially disruption that's coming from outside, these are opportunities for us to get better.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: So lean into these times, use them as an opportunity to practice your leadership, practice tactical engagement, goal planning, strategic planning, and the cohesion of goal strategy and tactics, and lay them on top of smart trust me,
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: that may not avoid all of the uncertainty, may not get you out of disruptions way, but it will help move you around it and through it in a much better way that will keep you cohesive, keep your team together and keep you trusting each other and working together.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you all have a great day.
