  SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Reparenting Radio.
• 0:03
SPEAKER_00: I'm Lisa Watson, architect of human transformation.
• 0:06
SPEAKER_00: This is a space for leaders, parents, and anyone ready to break old patterns, regulate their nervous system, and show up in their life with clarity and self-trust.
• 0:16
SPEAKER_00: If you're ready to change the way you lead, love, and live, you're in the right place.
• 0:21
  SPEAKER_00: Let's begin.
• 0:24
SPEAKER_00: Hey friends, welcome back to Reparenting Radio.
• 0:28
SPEAKER_00: A little over 10 years ago, shortly after my 28-year toxic marriage had ended, I found myself alone in my own place for the first time, which was pretty exciting.
• 0:44
  SPEAKER_00: And I wasn't grieving, trust me.
• 0:47
SPEAKER_00: I was thrilled about it.
• 0:49
  SPEAKER_00: I was finally free.
• 0:52
  SPEAKER_00: Free, free, free.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_00: I can't even tell you the feeling of like walking on Cloud 9 after 28 years of feeling like I couldn't be myself.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_00: I was finally free to ask questions.
• 1:07
SPEAKER_00: I was finally free to read books that interested me, to study things I've always wanted, to go places without asking or telling anyone.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: I was free to be curious again.
• 1:20
SPEAKER_00: And I was free to discover who my authentic self truly was.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_00: And I think that was the most exciting thing of all of it.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_00: It was kind of like being born again.
• 1:33
SPEAKER_00: And I was so hungry for understanding.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: Now keep in mind, you probably don't know this, but I met my ex-husband when I was 18.
• 1:43
SPEAKER_00: He was 11 years older than me.
• 1:44
SPEAKER_00: We got engaged within months, and um I was married before the age of 21.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_00: And that lasted for 28 years.
• 1:54
SPEAKER_00: So you can imagine what kind of mindset I might have had being with someone who was very um controlling of me and my decisions and what he wanted for me.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_00: So I was super hungry for understanding, and I wanted to understand why some relationships felt safe while others didn't, and slowly drained the life out of us.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: I wanted to understand why people seem to repeat the same patterns, mainly myself, over and over again, and why we know what to do, yet so often we struggle to simply do it.
• 2:39
SPEAKER_00: Like, why do some people heal while other people stay stuck?
• 2:45
SPEAKER_00: And and these are questions that had always intrigued me prior to getting married.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, but when I did get married, I put all of my interests on the back burner for the best interest of my relationship and and my family.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't until I got a divorce that I was able to pivot back and really get into what I remembered were the things that truly excited me, which were these deeper questions.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_00: I really wanted to understand people.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_00: I wanted to understand myself most of all, and I wanted to understand my life and how I could make it better.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_00: And one afternoon, as I was sitting in my new home by myself, well, maybe with my two cats, which I had recently got to keep me company, I stumbled across a video on YouTube.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_00: It was Bruce Lipton speaking.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_00: And what stopped me about what he said wasn't the science.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_00: For some of you may know, Bruce Lipton is a scientist, he's a biologist.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_00: It wasn't the biology, and it wasn't even his work into epigenetics, although that is extremely interesting, and I highly recommend looking into it.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_00: What really caught me on this video was his honesty.
• 4:08
SPEAKER_00: He was describing how, well, first of all, this incredibly successful scientist who had written many books, was a professor, had done lots of lectures, teachings all over the world, a successful scientist was openly admitting in this video that despite all that he had achieved, he wasn't really happy.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_00: He wasn't happy in his life.
• 4:35
SPEAKER_00: He wasn't happy in his relationships, he wasn't happy with his parenting, he wasn't happy with his health, and he just simply wasn't happy in his day-to-day life.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: And he wasn't blaming anyone.
• 5:36
SPEAKER_00: If the thing creating my life isn't even fully visible to me, or you know, the different aspects of my life, if that subconscious programming isn't even visible to me, how am I supposed to change it?
• 5:53
SPEAKER_00: It actually made me really nervous, kind of scared for a minute.
• 5:56
  SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_00: Is that why people don't change their lives because their subconscious programming is locked away in some vault and they don't know how to get to it, so they're never able to change it?
• 6:08
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I don't want that to happen to me.
• 6:12
SPEAKER_00: How do you change something that you can't see?
• 6:16
SPEAKER_00: How do you change a pattern that you don't even know is running?
• 6:22
SPEAKER_00: But then I thought, okay, let's do it.
• 6:26
SPEAKER_00: Let's go, let's find out where and what these subconscious programs are.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_00: And that question and that moment truly changed the direction of my life.
• 6:39
SPEAKER_00: I'm getting tearied, like thinking about it, because honestly, I remember that exact pivot point.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_00: And not because I suddenly had answers, but because I finally had a better question.
• 6:55
SPEAKER_00: And that question sent me down a rabbit hole that I have been exploring ever since for the last 10 years.
• 7:04
SPEAKER_00: What are my subconscious beliefs and how do I change them?
• 7:09
SPEAKER_00: So I started reading everything I could get my hands on and listening: neuroscience, human behavior, psychology, philosophy, spirituality, childhood development, attachment theory, nervous system regulation, all of it.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_00: I actually went back to school to get my PhD in integrative health medicine.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_00: I got certified in neurolinguistic programming and Reiki, and I was off to all the classes, all the certifications, back to school, like I am going to figure this out.
• 7:43
SPEAKER_00: And as I studied, one realization kept becoming clearer.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_00: The quality of our lives is deeply connected to the quality of our relationships.
• 7:57
SPEAKER_00: Our relationship with ourself, our relationship with our significant others, our partners, our children, the relationship that we have with money, with our bodies, with work, and our relationship with source or God, whatever feels right for you.
• 8:17
  SPEAKER_00: Everything is a relationship.
• 8:21
SPEAKER_00: But then another question emerged, which is if relationships shape our lives so profoundly, why do so many of us struggle with them?
• 8:35
SPEAKER_00: Why do intelligent people repeat unhealthy relationship patterns?
• 8:40
SPEAKER_00: Why did I get into an unhealthy relationship?
• 8:44
SPEAKER_00: Why was my ex-husband unhealthy in our relationship?
• 8:51
SPEAKER_00: Why do loving parents unintentionally pass pain down to their children?
• 8:58
SPEAKER_00: Why do successful people still feel unworthy?
• 9:04
SPEAKER_00: And why do we keep reacting in ways that we don't even like or we don't even want to act in?
• 9:12
SPEAKER_00: And the deeper I went, the more I realized something.
• 9:16
SPEAKER_00: I realized that every relationship is filtered through patterns.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_00: Patterns that we didn't consciously choose.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: Patterns that began forming in our very first relationships.
• 9:36
SPEAKER_00: And that led me to the question: if the subconscious mind is shaping so much of our lives, how does it get programmed in the first place?
• 9:50
SPEAKER_00: Because we aren't born believing that we're not good enough.
• 9:55
SPEAKER_00: We're not born believing that we have to earn love or that conflict is dangerous.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_00: We aren't born believing that we have to make everyone else happy before we're allowed to be happy ourselves.
• 10:14
SPEAKER_00: Somewhere we learn those things.
• 10:17
SPEAKER_00: They were modeled, they were repeated, they were experienced, and they were felt.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_00: Our subconscious isn't programmed because someone sits us down and explays life to us.
• 10:33
SPEAKER_00: It's programmed through lived experience, through repetition, through emotion, through the environment that we grew up in, through modeled behavior, media, and the domestication process that we all go through, through the relationships that shape us before we're old enough to question what it is that we're learning.
• 11:02
  SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_00: If you grew up in a home where love feels consistent, where your emotions are welcomed, or someone comforts you when you're scared, or mistakes are met with guidance instead of shame, your subconscious begins writing a very different story than a child who grows up walking on eggshells.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_00: One child learns I'm safe, the other child learns I need to be quiet.
• 11:32
SPEAKER_00: One child learns, my needs matter, and the other learns, just don't be a burden.
• 11:42
SPEAKER_00: One child learns, people can be trusted.
• 11:45
SPEAKER_00: And the other learns, I better not depend on anyone.
• 11:51
SPEAKER_00: And none of this is happening consciously.
• 11:55
SPEAKER_00: It's happening through thousands of everyday interactions, tones, facial expressions, what was said, what was not said.
• 12:10
SPEAKER_00: And it's worth remembering that those environments have changed drastically over the past twenty years.
• 12:19
SPEAKER_00: Today's children aren't just being shaped by their families, they're also growing up with smartphones, social media, constant notifications, endless comparisons, pressure to perform, pressure to fit in, pressure to be liked, to get enough views, enough followers, enough comments, enough validation from people that they've never even met, those experiences also become part of a child's environment.
• 12:52
SPEAKER_00: And just like every other environment, children have to adapt to it.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_00: Their personalities have to adapt to it.
• 13:02
SPEAKER_00: And if a child's sense of worth slowly becomes tied to likes, comments, followers, or constant comparison, those experiences begin shaping the subconscious mind as well.
• 13:16
SPEAKER_00: The nervous system doesn't necessarily distinguish between the stress of emotional rejection in a home and the stress of social rejection online.
• 13:28
  SPEAKER_00: It's simply asking: Am I accepted?
• 13:31
  SPEAKER_00: Do I belong?
• 13:32
  SPEAKER_00: Am I enough?
• 13:34
SPEAKER_00: Those questions have always existed.
• 13:39
SPEAKER_00: The environment in which children are trying to answer them is what has changed.
• 13:46
SPEAKER_00: And that's what eventually led me to one of the most important discoveries that I've made recently in the last 10 years as I've gone down these rabbit holes, is attachment theory.
• 13:59
SPEAKER_00: Now, if you've never heard of attachment theory before, don't let the name intimidate you.
• 14:04
  SPEAKER_00: It's actually a very simple idea.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_00: Attachment theory is just asking one question.
• 14:12
SPEAKER_00: What did your earliest relationships teach you about relationships?
• 14:18
SPEAKER_00: And how did you adapt based on what those earliest relationships taught you?
• 14:27
SPEAKER_00: Because children don't simply grow up, they adapt.
• 14:31
  SPEAKER_00: They're conditioned, they're programmed.
• 14:34
SPEAKER_00: They adapt to emotional environments they're raised in, they adapt to the people caring for them, they adapt to whatever they need to do to feel safe, connected, seen, comforted, and loved.
• 14:50
SPEAKER_00: And those experiences quietly become the blueprint for how they see themselves, other people, and relationships for years to come.
• 15:00
SPEAKER_00: So if love felt consistent, safe, and available, then that's one blueprint.
• 15:05
SPEAKER_00: And if love felt unpredictable, conditional, confusing, or emotionally unavailable, that's a very different blueprint.
• 15:16
SPEAKER_00: Those early experiences become familiar to the nervous system.
• 15:22
SPEAKER_00: And as adults, we often mistake what's familiar for what's healthy.
• 15:26
SPEAKER_00: And I've discussed this many times in these podcasts about how the nervous system is the tuner to your reality.
• 15:37
  SPEAKER_00: Like matches like.
• 15:39
SPEAKER_00: And everything's about frequency and vibration.
• 15:41
SPEAKER_00: The experiences you have are built on frequency and vibration, and they will match what your nervous system is used to.
• 15:50
SPEAKER_00: So finding these subconscious programs, understanding how they've impacted the nervous system, and regulating your nervous system is how you create a better life.
• 16:04
SPEAKER_00: Because as I said, we often mistake what's familiar for what's healthy.
• 16:10
SPEAKER_00: That's why someone can desperately want a loving, emotionally available relationship and still find themselves choosing emotionally unavailable partners.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_00: Or maybe becoming a people pleaser or avoiding conflict at all costs.
• 16:29
SPEAKER_00: Perhaps you became fiercely independent, or you have a fear of abandonment.
• 16:35
SPEAKER_00: Not because you're broken, because you're patterned, and because those strategies once made perfect sense.
• 16:45
SPEAKER_00: They were intelligent adaptations to an environment that required them.
• 16:50
SPEAKER_00: The challenge is that many of those adaptations continue running long after the original environment has changed.
• 16:59
SPEAKER_00: And that's where the nervous system regulation started making a lot of sense to me.
• 17:06
SPEAKER_00: Because your nervous system is constantly asking: Am I safe?
• 17:10
  SPEAKER_00: Am I connected?
• 17:12
  SPEAKER_00: Do I belong?
• 17:13
  SPEAKER_00: Am I accepted?
• 17:14
SPEAKER_00: Do I need to protect myself?
• 17:17
SPEAKER_00: Depending on the environment you grew up in, your nervous system learned certain strategies for answering those questions, such as people pleasing, perfectionism, procrastination, avoidance, hyperindependence, overachievement, withdrawal, whatever it may be.
• 17:39
SPEAKER_00: These are not personality flaws, they're adaptations.
• 17:44
SPEAKER_00: They're solutions your system created to help you survive.
• 17:50
SPEAKER_00: And that's when everything started coming together for me.
• 17:55
SPEAKER_00: Bruce Lipton introduced me to the subconscious mind.
• 17:59
SPEAKER_00: Attachment theory helped me understand how many of those subconscious patterns were formed.
• 18:06
SPEAKER_00: And nervous system regulation helped me understand why they were so difficult to change.
• 18:12
SPEAKER_00: And together, those ideas became the foundation of the work that I do today.
• 18:18
SPEAKER_00: Because once that you understand that you're not broken, that you're patterned, everything changes.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_00: You stop asking what's wrong with me.
• 18:27
SPEAKER_00: And you start asking, What happened to me?
• 18:31
  SPEAKER_00: What did I learn?
• 18:33
SPEAKER_00: What am I still carrying?
• 18:36
SPEAKER_00: And what do I need to let go?
• 18:39
SPEAKER_00: And perhaps the most important question of all, what new experiences can I create that teach my nervous system that something is different now?
• 18:50
SPEAKER_00: What internal dialogue do I have to adopt to eventually convince my inner child that she's safe now?
• 19:00
SPEAKER_00: And this is how I developed the reparenting and the reveal methods to help myself and others reprogram the beliefs and patterns that have kept them from living a regulated, grounded life that feels safe, connected, and expansive, a life out of survival and a life into thriving.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_00: And all because I was at the beginning of a new chapter in my life and I heard a video that really landed with me.
• 19:35
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you, friends.
• 19:36
SPEAKER_00: If this conversation landed with you, if it resonates with you, and you'd like to continue exploring these ideas with me, I would love to invite you to join my weekly newsletter.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_00: Every week I share reflections, observation, and practical insights, just like I do here about relationships and parenting, nervous system regulation, subconscious programming, and the patterns that are shaping our lives.
• 19:59
SPEAKER_00: And many of my podcast episodes actually begin as conversations with my newsletter community.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_00: So, and when you describe subscribe, you can subscribe easily in the show notes.

SPEAKER_00: There's links for free resources.
• 20:13
SPEAKER_00: You can choose a free resource along with your subscription, which may be my quick start guide to reparenting yourself, a conscious parenting guide, andor a resource for leaders who want to better understand the personal patterns that influence how they lead, communicate, and grow.
