- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. I am standing in front of a
- 0:31giant trellis of green vines that I'm growing inside my
- 0:37garden. And this green trellis is filled
- 0:42with something that I've never grown before, and it is called a
- 0:47Mexican Gherkin. And these are super tiny little
- 0:52cucumbers that are supposed to be ideal for making Gherkin
- 0:57Pickles. And they are super tiny, like
- 1:01really tiny. And they're ideal for growing up
- 1:05the trellis and covering the trellis.
- 1:08And they send out all these beautiful little arms that grab
- 1:11onto the trellis. And it's already like, let's
- 1:15see, it's probably almost halfway around a big giant
- 1:21trellis that's in. It's about 3 feet, 3 1/2 feet
- 1:26wide. And at the very peak of the
- 1:28archway, it's probably about 9 feet.
- 1:32And it's about halfway up it at this point.
- 1:34And it's filled with the vines. Now, here's the tricky part
- 1:39about this. There are there were weeks ago I
- 1:42was noticing that there were tons of little tiny flowers and
- 1:45these little tiny flowers had these little tiny cucumbers
- 1:49coming out, but they were like so small, like the piece of lead
- 1:53on a pencil like that bin. And this is when it was much
- 1:57shorter. And I was getting very nervous
- 1:59that they were going to because if I even touched them, which I
- 2:01did, I knocked them off and they hit the ground.
- 2:03And then I was super frustrated that I even touched it and it
- 2:06broke off and it hit the ground. So I decided I was going to
- 2:09leave it alone and I just walked away from it and said I'm just
- 2:13going to wait and see what happens.
- 2:15Well, you know, I'm very curious.
- 2:17So I kept walking over and I'd say I don't see anything, but I
- 2:20didn't touch any of the leaves. And it almost looks like English
- 2:24Ivy. If you've ever seen a English
- 2:26Ivy wall, you know, it gets like very dense and thick.
- 2:29It almost reminds me of that and it, it, it's and it's thick like
- 2:35the, like the leaves are covering things.
- 2:37But my curiosity, I was trying to keep it at Bay and I would
- 2:40just stand here and I would look at it and I'm right in front of
- 2:42it right now as I'm talking about it.
- 2:44And I would be like, OK, I'm just not going to touch it.
- 2:46I'm just going to keep looking at it.
- 2:48And I would never see any of the little cucumbers.
- 2:51I thought they all fell off or the birds picked them off and
- 2:54then ate them and that was the end of it.
- 2:57So here, lo and behold, here we are today and I'm standing out
- 3:01here thinking, OK, it looks beautiful.
- 3:03I'm going to love having this grow up.
- 3:05It's going to be a nice spot in the garden just to look at.
- 3:07If nothing else. It's pretty.
- 3:09I created something pretty and I happen to just like lift up.
- 3:14I say I happened, but really I was like, well, I might screw
- 3:17it. I might as well look and see.
- 3:18And I lift up a few leaves and I see one of them underneath and
- 3:24it's fairly large. For what it had they have been
- 3:29it's like the size of a small grape right now.
- 3:32And I got super excited. I was like, they're growing,
- 3:35they're growing, they're growing and I'm looking and I'm like, Oh
- 3:38my God, when do I pick them? What is this?
- 3:40And I feel all that, that excitement and thrillingness
- 3:44coming through me and I'm like, should I pick it?
- 3:46When do you pick them? How big do they do they get?
- 3:48How how big do you know? And I start running through all
- 3:51of this in my head and I'm like, what do I do, 'cause they're so
- 3:55fragile, the way they're hanging on.
- 3:58I was like, oh geez, I don't know if I should pick them.
- 4:00I don't know what I should do. And I stopped myself.
- 4:03And I said, you know what? This is a great time for me to
- 4:06record a lesson and talk to myself.
- 4:09As much as I'm talking to you about don't touch them.
- 4:13It's being patient. It's allowing myself to
- 4:16recognize I need to be patient. I need to allow myself to just
- 4:21take the time to chill out and not touch it.
- 4:25Don't go near them, Kim, and focus on letting them grow.
- 4:30And I will know. I will do the research.
- 4:33I'm not going to touch them until I absolutely know I should
- 4:36touch them. What's the average size that I
- 4:38should let them get to? But here's what's beautiful.
- 4:41I was patient until I knew. And then once I knew, I became
- 4:46impatient again, which is ludicrous, right?
- 4:48Because now at least I know they're growing.
- 4:50You would think, oh, you can be more patient now that you know
- 4:52they're growing. Well, it doesn't work like that
- 4:54in my head. It means, oh, now I have
- 4:56permission to go ahead and actually get in there.
- 4:59And no, I don't, I do not have permission for myself to just
- 5:02get in there and start like doing this.
- 5:05What I need to do is stay focused on what it is that I
- 5:08need to stay focused on, which is coming out here to take a
- 5:12picture of the original flower that I was headed to do that was
- 5:16on the okra and stay away from the tiny Gherkin cucumbers and
- 5:20focus on what I need to focus on the photography, not on the
- 5:25stuff that I do not need to focus on.
- 5:27So I'm sharing this all with you to tell you it happens to me.
- 5:31I have to not be so impatient. So I'm going to go do that right
- 5:36now. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 5:37day and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
