- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. I'm talking about
- 0:32Speaker 1: surviving mentally, emotionally, physically, and sometimes just trying to make
- 0:39Speaker 1: it through another damn day. Because being single today isn't
- 0:44Speaker 1: always about freedom. Sometimes it's about responsibility. It's about knowing
- 0:49Speaker 1: that when the bills come in, there's nobody else to
- 0:51Speaker 1: split them with. When something's broke, yep, you're fixing it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: When you're sick, you still have to get up. And
- 1:01Speaker 1: when you're having a terrible day, you still have to
- 1:03Speaker 1: figure out how to keep moving. And when you're lying
- 1:08Speaker 1: in bed at night with a thousand thoughts running through
- 1:10Speaker 1: your head, sometimes there's nobody there beside you. Nobody to say,
- 1:15Speaker 1: you know what? It's going to be all right. So
- 1:19Speaker 1: you have to tell yourself. And sometimes you don't even
- 1:22Speaker 1: believe yourself. That is the reality for a lot of
- 1:26Speaker 1: single people. And I'm not here to complain. I'm here
- 1:29Speaker 1: to tell the truth. Because sometimes you can be surrounded
- 1:34Speaker 1: by people and still feel completely alone. You know, with
- 1:42Speaker 1: the cost of everything, inflation, cost of living, money affects
- 1:50Speaker 1: almost everything. It affects rent. It affects mortgage. It affects electricity, gas, groceries, insurance,
- 1:59Speaker 1: car payments, so on and such. And every time you
- 2:03Speaker 1: think you're finally caught up, another bill shows up. It's
- 2:07Speaker 1: like playing a video game where you finally defeat one
- 2:09Speaker 1: enemy and three more come running at you. Did you
- 2:14Speaker 1: ever open your bank account and just stare at it?
- 2:16Speaker 1: You don't even know why you're looking. You're just hoping
- 2:19Speaker 1: the number magically changes. You refresh the screen. Still broke.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Refresh it again. Still broke. You start thinking maybe if
- 2:32Speaker 1: you close your eyes and open them again, there'll be
- 2:34Speaker 1: an extra 500 bucks sitting there. Nope. And when you're single,
- 2:41Speaker 1: there's nobody else contributing to the household. It's your paycheck.
- 2:46Speaker 1: It's your overtime. Your side hustle. Your savings. Your credit card.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And it's your problem. And that's a lot of pressure.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And then there's another problem. Society makes you feel like
- 3:05Speaker 1: you should have everything figured out by a certain age.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You should own a house, have a great career, have
- 3:12Speaker 1: money saved, maybe have investments, be married or have that
- 3:16Speaker 1: perfect relationship, drive a nice car. Meanwhile, you're sitting here thinking,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I'm just trying to make sure the fucking electric doesn't
- 3:25Speaker 1: get shut off. Social media does not. Now we're going
- 3:37Speaker 1: to talk about loneliness. Because this one is real. There
- 3:42Speaker 1: are nights when you don't want to be alone. You
- 3:44Speaker 1: want somebody to talk to. Somebody to sit beside you.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Somebody to ask, how was your day? Not because you
- 3:53Speaker 1: need somebody to rescue you. You just want somebody who cares.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Someone who notices when you're quiet. Someone who knows when
- 4:02Speaker 1: something is not right. Someone you can call when you're
- 4:06Speaker 1: having a shitty day. Because sometimes you don't need advice.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You just need someone to say, I got you. And
- 4:16Speaker 1: when you're single, you learn how to become your own
- 4:20Speaker 1: support system. You learn how to comfort yourself. You learn
- 4:25Speaker 1: how to make your own decisions. You learn how to
- 4:27Speaker 1: solve your own problems. You learn how to pick yourself up.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And there's strength in that. But let's not pretend it's
- 4:35Speaker 1: always easy. Because being strong all the time, it's exhausting.
- 4:43Speaker 1: There's a kind of exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix. It's
- 4:48Speaker 1: the exhaustion of constantly thinking. Can I afford this? What
- 4:54Speaker 1: if something happens to my car? What if I get sick?
- 4:58Speaker 1: What if I lose my job? How am I going
- 5:00Speaker 1: to pay that bill? What happens if something goes wrong?
- 5:05Speaker 1: That is the invisible weight that nobody sees. You can
- 5:10Speaker 1: walk into work smiling. You can joke around with your friends.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You can post something funny online. And you can tell everybody,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'm doing all right. But inside, your brain is running
- 5:21Speaker 1: a marathon, and you're tired. Not just physically, you are
- 5:26Speaker 1: mentally tired. And you know what? A lot of people
- 5:32Speaker 1: aren't working towards their dreams anymore. They're working just to
- 5:36Speaker 1: keep up. You get a paycheck, disappears. You work more hours,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and that money disappears. You get a raise, and suddenly
- 5:47Speaker 1: everything else costs more. You start asking yourself, what's the point?
- 5:53Speaker 1: What's the point in working more hours? What's the point
- 5:57Speaker 1: in working a second job? The point is, you're trying
- 6:01Speaker 1: to build something. You're trying to build and create stability.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You're trying to protect yourself. You're trying to make tomorrow
- 6:09Speaker 1: a little easier than today. And sometimes progress doesn't look
- 6:14Speaker 1: like buying a house. Sometimes progress is simply, I paid
- 6:19Speaker 1: my bills. You put a little money aside. You got
- 6:24Speaker 1: through another difficult week. And you did not give up.
- 6:29Speaker 1: That is progress. And then there's getting older. Nobody really
- 6:36Speaker 1: prepares you for that. When you're younger, you think you
- 6:40Speaker 1: have unlimited time. Then suddenly you look around and realize,
- 6:45Speaker 1: holy shit, where did the years go? Your priorities change.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You don't necessarily want to go out every night anymore.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You start appreciating quiet mornings. You appreciate a good cup
- 6:58Speaker 1: of coffee. And you appreciate a conversation that actually means something.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Maybe a peaceful evening. Maybe it's watching the sunset. Maybe
- 7:09Speaker 1: it's listening to music or maybe it's spending time with
- 7:12Speaker 1: the people you love. You start realizing that happiness isn't
- 7:18Speaker 1: necessarily about having more. Sometimes it's about needing more. Well,
- 7:27Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, that is going to do it for today.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I greatly appreciate you being here. I appreciate you listening.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And let me leave you with this. You know, being
- 7:40Speaker 1: single is not easy. Being single is extremely difficult. You
- 7:45Speaker 1: are one income. You are one person. In a world
- 7:51Speaker 1: where everything is so expensive, the cost of living is
- 7:56Speaker 1: through the roof. Inflation is out of control. So if
- 8:04Speaker 1: you're listening to this and you're single and you're struggling,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I want you to know you are not alone. You
- 8:13Speaker 1: are definitely not alone. There are a lot of people
- 8:17Speaker 1: in this world who struggle, including myself. Anyhow, As always,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I appreciate you being here. I appreciate you listening. Please
- 8:32Speaker 1: be the reason why somebody smiles, and please be the
- 8:35Speaker 1: reason why somebody has a good day. Until the next one, peace!
