- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: This show is brought to you by our friends, your friends and mine at Puesto.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: May he conno moderna the Niners are back home again this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and if you are going to the game and I know many of you are going to the game, the food decision is already made for you two locations of Puesto on the Concourse.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not to mention two locations.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: outside of Levi's stadium, one in Conquerred, one in Santa Clara, you can go, the food is so good.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: The Adler Brothers, I don't Eric Adler was at the game this last week, and their huge nother fans, they do an incredible job, their restaurant, the vibes, the drinks, so here's what you got.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to the game, they also got locations at Southern California Orange County, La Jolla, if you're going to the game.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: One of the taco stands has this, case of Beria tacos, Alpastor tacos, they're guacamole with the Parmesan O'Rejiano and chips, and they've got the perfect Margarita and the Bang Bang Margarita.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: So you're getting fresh made tortillas in a stadium, fresh made margaritas with the with the fresh squeeze lime juice.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's just going to, it's the perfect thing.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's the perfect tang on a warm Sunday afternoon while you're watching football.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: So that's one of the locations.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other location in Levi Stadium has the Chicken Alpestor burrito.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's a special menu item.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can get the burrito in the brick and mortar if you get it to go.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: With, because what they do is they seal it with crispy melted cheese on a burrito.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: The case of Beria Burrito, the chicken outpest or nachos, the Beria nachos, and then the perfect or the bang bang, Margarita.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to leave by stadium.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I talked to the Adler Brothers the other day.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: The Santa Clara location is popping off.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great place to go after a game.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great place to go on a Saturday.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: Why go watch some college football?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Go watch some Monday night football.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Go watch some Thursday night football.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Go on Taco Tuesday.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's an awesome place to hang.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: I sent John Dickinson there the other day in Conqueror.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: He said he had an awesome time.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's not getting paid for this ad.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: But the food's fantastic, you'll love it.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you to Puesto, all of you that go, tell me about it, because I love hearing that you go.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I know they always deliver for you.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: So thank you, Puesto, oh, by the way, if you go to the, I just love doing this.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: If you go into the locations,
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: the brick and mortars.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have this at Levi's.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can always get the shrimp gobbinador case of deer with the Mexican shrimp, the poblano, the pickled red onion, the jalapeno salsa, the gobbinador case of deer, go open the door and get my belly.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I love you, Puesto.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: And you will, too, if you haven't tried it yet.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Just back from Levi Stadium, just got done filling in for Greg Poppett today.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: The 40 honors are three and a, what believe it or not, one of three, three and a, teams left in the NFC.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's the box, it's the Eagles, and it's the Niners.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm still trying to figure out how they won that thing on Sunday, but as I was sitting here making my list of thoughts,
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: kind of wrote some things down while we were doing the post game show from Levi Stadium and then driving back thinking about it.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: No driver this time.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: drum myself, blue collar guy.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: And for all of the things during that game that just felt like they weren't going right, I started thinking about like kind of putting my thoughts down, and there were so many performances that I thought were really good.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: But the first thing I want to say is three and oh, when you look back at the history of the league, I had this stat coming in,
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: about 75% of the time.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a 3.0 team, you eventually reach the postseason.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Even if you're 2.1, which Arizona is, and Seattle is, and the Rams are, and the Vikings are, and the commanders are.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: But even 2.1 teams make the playoffs about a little more in half the time.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: But 3.0 is a 75% and you know, the last 2 times the Niners, and this is just
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to say it because it was talking Super Bowl after this, but the last two times it went through another way, 2019, 2020, through the Super Bowl.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, you know, we're a ways away from that conversation.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: The effort was stunning.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what I mean is just like,
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody was going to leave with a win and if Arizona won the game, I think they'd be kicking themselves.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: They are kicking themselves.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be thinking about all the things that went wrong and they still found a way to win the game.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: So somebody was going to leave there with a game that you go, how?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: one that how exactly and definitely that way.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: We think about this, we almost had a game with two safeties, one fry their team, Kyle and Marie, we'll be able to get the ball out of the end zone.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so he was not tackled for a safety, but that was a big play.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Niners, when you when you get a safety, I would love to know the stat on.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: teams that give up a safety and then immediately trail with three and a half minutes left.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, being down by two is the worst part of giving up the safety and a tie game.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: But there's also another really bad part, which is now you're given the other team the ball.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: The night is defended.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of the Shanahan era.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's happened so many times against
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: where the other team gets the ball with like, you know, outside of the two minute warning, maybe in this case, 326 or whatever was 320, and you've got timeouts and Shanahan uses the first, uses the second, third, nine, holds it, uses it after the two minute, I mean, if you give an NFL team a minute, 46 with a timeout, that is a lot of time.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: And really, the Niners didn't even need the time out.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: They ultimately used it after they resented the ball.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: But they got down the field at the end of that game, Mac Jones.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: How is Mac Jones?
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: These are one of my overarching thoughts leaving this game.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you win and you're three and all, and everyone's kind of waiting to see his Nick Bosa.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the over, how is the two and a half million dollar cap hit this year for Mac Jones?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: has to be one of the best non-Rookie contracts in the NFL this year.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now you get a rookie who's a fifth rounder and it's playing really well, whatever.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: But in terms of guys that were free agents available to anybody to design for a non-Rookie quarterback, they have a capit of $2.5 million.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: And we can unequivocally say without Mac
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't know how you can possibly value that.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: If any given year, if a backup quarterback wins you two games, that is so much more valuable than like a million two per game, right?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like think about it.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: If a guy's gonna win you 17 games and you pay a million dollars per win that's $17 million, that's an incredible deal.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: We're right now the niders have paid Mac Jones a million dollars per win.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: That is an off the charts deal.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm looking down today and he's putting on a knee brace.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's Adrian Martinez about to play in this game.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. 559, Eddie Piniero says he's Mr. 305, him and Pitbull.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, maybe Adrian Gonzalez, he was the quarterback in Nebraska, the 559 on the front of his helmet.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: UFL MVP never played a snap, Brock Pertis in the NFL, Brock Pertis, not in uniform.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Jones is out there dragging his left leg around, then it honors his stuff on 4th down in one on the goal line and you're like, or 4th in goal at the one, you're like, oh my god.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: That was a roller coaster in which there was, no, it was 6 to 6.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: You weren't going up or down, but it was still felt like a roller coaster.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: just incredible game.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, so many things.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: So they've had two game winning drives basically this year.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: They got the ball with a minute, 50 left the end of the first game won it got the ball with 146 their own 21 time out won it.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Go down the list.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start at the end and go go forward.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie Pinearo.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I think I mentioned on the podcast at some point this week, but Eddie Pinearo talked I talked to him in the locker room.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what they have two of Wednesday.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember Wednesday.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, Eddie, tell me about these cables.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: The came news this week that the kickers get 65 balls that begin in the year, the kickers and punters, and they get to get those balls the way they like them.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Unlike in years past, we're basically a brand new ball.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's why guys are kicking it further.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's like Eddie, tell me about these.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, yeah, probably gives me a yard, maybe three yards, whatever.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, so what, you know, I was trying to get it.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: He was really good-natured and friendly and engaging.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: But he was giving me the idea that he didn't care that much about the cable.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I came away from the conversation with Eddie Piniero in the 90s locker room.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: He'd been a nine of her a week and a half, two weeks.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: I came away from that conversation thinking, I don't like this guy.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: This guy is like,
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: kind of doesn't care in a good way.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he cares about winning.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: He was doing that, this is my house celebration after the thing, which I wish I had described on radio.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: But he doesn't, he's not freaked out about this whole thing.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: As evidence by the fact that he missed the extra point to start, is not not a career.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: He never kicked in Levi-State, didn't gotten the stadium once this week.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: And not just hit the game winning kick, he had two other kicks that were a big deal.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's what you need.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's really what this team is gonna do.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: This team, and I saw Kyle use Jake who scored the touchdown that I said after the game, like this thing is not a finished product yet, and it's true.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to Marcus Robinson's gonna come back and next week, again, hopefully with Bosa, but you're just gonna be in these games.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a few things that I felt really good about saying before the year, we go on after the Seattle game.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: And you just thank, like you know, thank anybody, but it's the benefit of being bad last year that this is the type of team that needs the type of schedule it has to give me chance.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like what you check what says this is the type of schedule that gives you a chance to build your way up during the season and still make the playoffs.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that is, as we're seeing through three weeks, the benefit of this 40-mater schedule, it gives them a chance to work their way towards a team that could beat good teams, play mistake free, score in the red zone, that sort of thing, and still win while doing it, be 3 and 0.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, at this point now, you go 7 and you're, can you play 500 football the rest of the way you win 10 games?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: May not win you the division?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Rams looked really good today.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: They lost a Philly somehow, but they looked really good and Philly today, and Philly's three and a. So, but it's just they are in such a good position.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: They play, and it's the same thing we said last week we'll say this week.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: They play the jacks, this is a big one.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Cause four that next five after jacks and fill it around the road.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: So you win this one, you go for it now.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a long way, I mean, let's talk about this game first.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, Eddie Piniero, big deal.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Pearcell.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are two things I said before the season that I felt really good about, like in the two weeks after the preseason before the year, you know, did a lot of media, did a lot of interviews, I was doing a lot of talking, talking season, and couldn't stop talking, couldn't say no, wouldn't say no.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I kept saying two things.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: One, the stuff we're seeing
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: The stuff we're seeing from Ricky Pierce on practice is real, and it's going to translate to games, and D-Winners is going to be really good this year.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: And those two things have turned out to be true.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: D-Winners has been flying around, cracking people, and Ricky Pierce also has been excellent.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky had eight catches for 117 yards.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: with no drawn jettings by my count.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is the number we came up with.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: It actually feels low, but this is the number I've got here.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is it three of his eight catches were for first downs?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I got a double check at my guess.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: Was that like four of them?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought I had four first downs, but three makes sense.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: At least Ricky Pierce all came into the game, averaging 21 yards per catch, which among players with at least eight catches was number one in the league.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Pierce all coming into the game did not have a catch under 13 yards through the first two weeks.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: And my memories could be wrong.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: My memory as he had two today.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: He had no more than three.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he had two and one of them was the first now.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a first down machine.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's been really reliable.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: And he's also been spectacular.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: The catch that he made, that whole sequence.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's fourth and two.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's a gutsy call.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: they go for it, Jake Brendel and Mac Jones and I didn't, I haven't watched the players post games, so maybe they've talked about it, but Tim Ryan was adamant on the broadcast that Mac Jones said that Jake Brendel quick snap, Jake Brendel gets in the crouch, bam, balls out.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Mac throws a gorgeous ball, the ball hits Ricky Pierce on the face.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: It hits him in the shoulder, then he sticks his arm on it.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: It was off his face mask.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm calling that catch, the Ricky Shay.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: That was the Ricky Shay catch.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: So he ricochet catches it and then sets up the touchdown.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the defense, so anyway, Ricky has been, I shouldn't move off from Ricky too quickly.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't just good today.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: He was good at the end of last year.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was good in, he was a total pro in camp.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: He was good week one, good week two.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's totally consistent.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you are getting a level of consistency from Ricky Perseul that is not usually equivalent with a young player.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's part of the benefit of having a guy who played a lot of football and he just looks like he belongs.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: That was my, if you heard it or watched it in training camp, what did I keep saying about Ricky Perseul?
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: When you watch this guy practice, you go, that's a pro.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: He is just so clearly operating on Brock Perti's level on George Kiddles level, like he is closer to the guys that have been doing it than the guys that haven't.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: Even though he hasn't really been doing it that long.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, careers are long, the story is not yet written.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be interesting to see, you know, how do you.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: There is the potential for the question.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like we couldn't be sitting here week 14 going.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: How did I just get everybody involved?
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like how did I get kiddo and how you and Robinson and Christian and Piersal, good problem to have with Jennings?
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: We'll worry about that another day.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: But you can just see a guy who you hope Jennings isn't gone.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: But when the 40 matters decided they were not gonna pay John Jennings a big amount of money, we're seeing part of why.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: They drafted a guy that they can rely on to hit big plays third down in 10.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to pick up 13.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's a very precise route runner.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: He is so consistent with his hands.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's not third and drawn, but he's third and Ricky.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's what he's been.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: You go back and he kills you on third now.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's really impressive.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: It is really impressive.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he's caught now what Seattle.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then this week over the top, as I heard one coach describe it, uh, nose up, nose down, deep ball, right?
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's different than like the crosser.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's nose up, nose down, deep ball over the shoulder, deep ball, go ball.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that's awesome.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is awesome.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think he is when they drafted him,
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, they drafted Ricky Pearsal with a pick.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: They tried to trade out of.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: And if the Niners had traded out of that Pearsal pick, they would have been applauded.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: But nobody wanted the pick.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't trade back because nobody wanted to move up into the first round of the 2024 draft.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: So they took Ricky Pearsal.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: And we've got a stretch of healthy ricky and it's been productive ricky.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he's just been a total pro and beyond that, he's not a high floor guy, he's showing to have a ceiling.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, now the one thing we haven't seen, like these guys, we're gonna find it in the room.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna find the passing offense in the red zone.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like can you just win one on one in the red zone?
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: I love getting out to McAfrey.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: I love getting out the juice, but you can't run,
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that's still something to get better at, but what did McCaffrey touch the ball today for 10 catches, 17 Russians, it's 27.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: So that means that he said a 49er record.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's 77 touches in the first three weeks of the season.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot, Frank Gore had that record before.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: probably on a bad team would be my guess.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't write down the year, but it was a long time ago and my guess is on a bad team.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: 77 catches in three weeks for Christian McCaffrey.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Brian Robinson only had Brian Robinson, had two carries today, but had one really good rod on that.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: There was a play where Mac Jones lined him up in the wrong place.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: They both looked to the sideline and then they moved to Mac and Robinson didn't quite know where to line up.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then it was like an 11-yard game.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: There was a big play.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't get over Ricky on the fourth and two.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Great play.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones, man.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about his money, but I didn't say his numbers.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: 27 to 41, 284, the pick was bad.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know what's really interesting about the pick?
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Percil said afterwards, I got to break that up, which I would agree with, although in his defense, he's getting blind side crushed.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Shannon has said afterwards, I was a bad play.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure he said it, but that stood out in my mind.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was, I was just a bad play.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, does he mean it was a bad execution?
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: He said, well, I'd like Ricky to break it up, those just a bad play, like a bad call, which I thought was very interesting.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: But Mac Jones responded, you know, Mac talked about it last week.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: dealing with adversity over coming, you know, not being too hard on himself.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: All that stuff.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he had a battle today, man, when you're quarterback has to throw a brace on mid game.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Not great, but he did a pretty good job of a looting pressure.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: He did a pretty good job in the pocket of getting out of pressure.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: What do you get, Zach?
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Once today?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Plus the safety.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Always, what was the final?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: I remember the one he got pulled down.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one sack.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: He got pulled down early by the nameplate, but other than that, with guys around him, he made some big throws.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was, I'm watching that guy go on.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a starting quarterback.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: At one point, the Cardinals had 32 plays to the 90s, 12.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was interesting.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: You never hear this.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I got a theory.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: I've got a theory.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: uh, charge for a safety.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: He had intentional grounding, but the pole was not in the end zone.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: And Micah Williams was right there at Alfred Collins is right there.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: Great job by those guys.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: What Tyler today ran six times 60 six times six years of carry long of nine.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like to me, that's the number.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Six years of carry.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, long of nine.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like six is a lot, long of nine.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: Marky Seagull tracked him down.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: Samuel Cawano had one where he tripped him up.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was a great play, but even though he was like, it looks like he was going to get by him.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: But Roger Goodell was there.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the homeless Super Bowl.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: And John Hussie, who's the referee, did something I've never heard a referee do today.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: After the call was made that it was this intentional grounding, but not a safety.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: They play the replay on the video board.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: And if you haven't been to Levi's state in this year, or you weren't there for this game, huge video boards.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: 4K, biggest outdoor 4K boards in the NFL.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: And they replay it and the whole crowd starts booing because I think it's a safety because they see his body in the end zone.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: reacts like a teacher in a classroom.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Totally breaks character.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't do official official voice, you know, like jargon.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: He turns on his mic and goes, the ball has to be in the end zone for it to be a safety or something like that.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought like, oh,
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: I've never heard a referee do that in that way.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: He totally just reacted to the crowd.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it was basically like, all right, hang guys, let me turn this on.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: I hate the rule, by the way, I've never heard a referee do that.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I wondered if it was,
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: And credit to him, like, he, I thought it was good.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see it, more of that.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Just like, here's, I'm not just telling you the outcome of the play.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm explaining the rule.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was really cool for this fans in the stand to be able to hear that, because I think so, so many times it's a fan and a crowd.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you don't get the same explanations that the television or radio audience gets.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, oh, that's, he is showing Roger Gdell, look at me.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: if the, if the, if the, he knows, like everybody knows the referee certainly know when the commissioner is in the building today is not the day to not be good.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that felt to me like a little bit of a John Hussie flex, which I love, which I love.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's great for the fans to have a more thorough explanation.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought it was his way going like, hey, I can work outside of the, I can color outside the lines a little bit.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: Watch this commission.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because like, you know,
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's reading referee reports, but if he's not in the building, you don't really feel that.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: It might have happened kind of during a commercial break, too.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: But that was his chance, good for John Hussie, showing the commission that he can handle it.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: 49ers today got their second.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: 49ers today got their first, first now.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: With seven minutes and 58 seconds left on the second quarter, that's insane.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: throwback whites were good today.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like, oh, the James Conner injury that was brutal, that looked bad.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: We'll wait on Bosa now.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we'll wait on Bosa.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Michael Williams was excellent.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: I like, wow.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think the way I said it to somebody this week was, that was a little bit cooler.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I thought Michael was going to be a high floor guy.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Bill, let me rephrase that.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: I knew when they drafted him, he was like a high ceiling, like you're projecting what I didn't know about Michael Williams, was that he would be a high floor player.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: But it turns out he's a high floor player.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: He plays his ass off.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: He makes a lot of plays and to me you feel his size on the field.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: like he really is, you know, not just Kyler, but you just, he plays huge in the way that the forest Buckner played huge and the way that our Eric Armstrong played huge, Alfred Collins has been, it crazy to say this, but I think he's been the surprise of the season for anybody that watched him before the season.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: If you watched him, especially like earlier training camp,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly, that first preseason game, you would not have thought like, oh, that dude's gonna make a place the first few weeks.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Getting better every week, Alfred Collins has been an asset.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, when it comes to the youth, up to Instout made a humongous play, up in Stout, one on the game, Eddie Pinedaro, one on the game, Max Jones, one on the game,
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky, Ricky Tickey, talk one on the game.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: Up to the start, one on the game.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: Third down in nine.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I said to Tim Ryan on radio, are they going to, would you throw it here if you're them?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, yes, I would.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes sense.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think it was the right decision to try to end the game.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: But they dropped back.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: They throw deep, yes, first down, you know, was third nine under two minutes.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: Niners have a timeout.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: And Jay Jones has that ball in his hands and up to stout knocks it away.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: So the several guys, even though it felt like there were so many plays that should alost him the game, I'll circle back to what I said to start this thing is that there were
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: some critical plays and players that won on the game.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Let me check my, oh, let me check my notes.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: One other thing, not gonna out of attention.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it shouldn't today, but I think on the day that Eddie Peniera was really good, I did want to mention Skymore.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was silent.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't know what the lead, I'd have to pull up the lead average, but 8.7 yards on punt returns.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably slightly above my guesses that the average is 7 yards 6.5 or 7 or 7 and a half or 8.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he made a couple really good decisions, uh, one late to not fair catcher return the ball, let it go in the end zone and then also a late plant where he first time for him as a nine or at Levi's where he crosses from the as the afternoon turns he crosses from the sun into the shade as the plant is coming down and he caught that ball clean.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: That was a big deal.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: If a good job on kick return to two returns, I thought he just looked confident and under control, nothing spectacular, Thomas Morstowe special teams was excellent, I keep saying excellent today.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: They won 16 to 15 in the game, they feel like they should have lost.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: I've said excellent a lot, but I was just surprised as I thought back through the game of how many things I thought went well for a game that in the moment fell.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: just painful as hell.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, all right, that's that for this.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: It should be a fun week.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be back on radio again this week.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have a college football game this week.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: Rutgers, Minnesota on Big Ten Network on Saturday.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'll be home Saturday night and back for the Niners and Jags on can be our on radio with Tim Ryan, Infra Greg Papa again on Sunday.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, this this
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: This Niners game is the the crucial catch game intercept cancer.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I got one of these heads today from Nick Mike Huller.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: It can be ours.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: The man responsibly put it on the spot, the broadcast booth.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll be wearing, I'll be wearing this for the broadcast next week.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'll have to turn it backwards because I do do the game with binoculars.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll be backwards
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's worth absolutely always thinking about Greg and I'm not sure if his schedule is if he'll be back on radio this week, but it was really awesome.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Fun filling in for him, but that's one of those filling in for a incredible guy and great broadcaster, but I had fun that I home opener.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's that.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll talk to you all soon later.
