- 0:59Hey, let's get into today's show. Today we're going to come to well,
- 1:03probably one of the most common objections to Catholicism. It's um, it's
- 1:15really based on confusion on the part of Protestants, and while many of them
- 1:22are very well meaning, the answer to the question is so simple that perhaps
- 1:30it's hard for them to swallow because it's just so obvious. All right,
- 1:37So it's on the topic of saints and angels and statues. I mean,
- 1:42one of the most common kind of condemnations of Catholicism by Protestants is the claim
- 1:49that Catholics worship Mary, saints and angels are not Jesus, and that Catholics
- 1:53are idle worshipers they worship statues. Well. Neither accusations true. Such arges
- 2:00are simply based in ignorance, but it's amazing how widespread such beliefs are.
- 2:06Even really well meaning Protestants who don't have any strong negative feelings to work Catholicism
- 2:12will ask why we worship saints and angels and statues out of genuine curiosity.
- 2:19Other times, such mistaken beliefs had led to like the Iconoclass movement, in
- 2:25which historic churches and cemeteries have been vandalized and some of the most beautiful works
- 2:30of devotional and religious art destroyed due to ignorance and bigotry. I don't really
- 2:37believe most Protestants doubt the existence of saints, although some, such as my
- 2:43professor at a certain Baptist university did. Saints are mentioned so many times on
- 2:47the Bible that it would be very hard to understand how anyone who bases their
- 2:52belief on the sole authority the Bible could be ignorant at them. Some Protestants
- 2:55such as well, it's common, I think in most Presbyterian churches, at
- 3:00least the ones that I've been in. I did go to a Presbyterian college
- 3:05for a couple of semesters, and some Methodist churches I was a Methodist youth
- 3:09minister for a bit claim that all Christians are saints. They believe that the
- 3:15Saints, whether living on earth or eternity alive in Heaven, are no more
- 3:20special than anyone else. That's not really a traditional Prisestant idea, though the
- 3:24more traditional Prosestant beliefs seems to be that there are certain people who are more
- 3:30holy and more devout than others, whose devotion is established a special relationship with
- 3:35God and are rightly called saints. But such Protestant denominations deny that the saints
- 3:40in heaven can hear are prayers, are aware of what goes on here on
- 3:45earth. Frankly, there's no biblical evidence for any of these positions. You
- 3:51can't say that those beliefs are based on anything in the Bible. As for
- 3:59angel, most Protestants maintained that while certain angels, such as the Angel Gabriel,
- 4:04may have been a messenger of God when he announced to the blessed Virgin
- 4:08Mary that she would give birth to Jesus, they say these things no longer
- 4:12happen. They don't believe an angel can hear our prayers or that they have
- 4:15any direct role in our lives. It's actually also unbiblical. I mean,
- 4:20you know, Jesus Christ himself said that, you know, when he warned
- 4:26people not to hurt children, he said, they're angels witnessed before you know,
- 4:30the Father daily advocating on their behalf. We each have a guardian angel.
- 4:36It's a very biblical belief, and to disbelieve the role of angels isn't
- 4:44biblical whatsoever, especially if you have a complete Bible, a complete Bible,
- 4:48Catholic Bible, which includes books such as the Book of Tobit and which you
- 4:54know, the archangel Raphael comes and helps out to devout Jew Tobitt and his
- 5:00family and says that you know, he heard the prayers of that family and
- 5:06advocated for them to the Father and came to help them. That's that's actually
- 5:12what the Bible says. That Bible book of the Bible's cut out mainly because
- 5:18you know, Martin Luther one didn't like the idea that this family was particularly
- 5:24favored by God because they did a lot of charity and buried the dead and
- 5:29risked their lives to do so, and when the Jews were being persecuted,
- 5:32but also because of the interaction between angels and humans on earth, which is
- 5:42truly part of Christian tradition and it's a very beautiful part of our doctrine,
- 5:46and I don't see why any Protestant would not wish to believe it. It
- 5:51is literally a great just grace. I mean, to realize that you have
- 6:00an angel that is assigned to you, you know, before you're born,
- 6:02when you're actually still in the womb, who's praying for you and trying to
- 6:08help you and guide you and advocate for you, and who is shares your
- 6:13sorrows and who shares your joys. That's part of the family of God.
- 6:18And that's actually very biblical, and you know, part of the both Jewish
- 6:25and Christian tradition, actually part of the Islamic tradition, part of all the
- 6:30Abrahamic traditions, that the angels have this role in our lives. To deny
- 6:35that is what's unreasonable. It's not founded in anything other than anti Catholic bigotry
- 6:46and just plain ignorance, just pure ignorance. I mean, Jesus said it.
- 6:54Jesus said, do you not know that each of these children have an
- 6:59angel who is you know, advocating on their behalf before your father in heaven.
- 7:04I don't have the exact words in front of me. We'll get to
- 7:06it when we get to that passage of the Bible. If you believe the
- 7:11Bible and you believe the words of Jesus, you really should believe in the
- 7:15active role of angels. Angels are not people who die and go to heaven.
- 7:21Angels are not humans. That's that's another like really odd Protestant belief that
- 7:27when you die and go to heaven, you become an angel. That's not
- 7:30in the Bible. Now. The angels were created before the human race.
- 7:35We know that because the story of creation in Genesis tells us that one of
- 7:42the angels, you know, Lucifer Satan, rebelled against God and took with
- 7:46him about a third of the other angels that rebelled against God. They are
- 7:51now the demons who try to destroy the human race. Because God created humanity
- 8:00to rectify creation, to bring everything back into order, we have angels.
- 8:09We have demons who try to harm us, and angels who try to protect
- 8:13us and save us. And it's very real. If we had one moment
- 8:16of clarity, we would see them all around us. And many saints have
- 8:24and you know, some have been absolutely terrified by the visions of demons,
- 8:31which is a very real thing and it's not superstition whatsoever. And they have
- 8:37been just as much comforted by the existence of angels, like Saint Michael,
- 8:43the archangel who protects us from evil. And we can talk to them anytime
- 8:48I want to. They're right here with us. Heaven and Earth merge because
- 8:52you know, heaven exists outside of time. They're right here we can talk
- 8:56to them, We can ask for their protection, we can ask for them
- 9:01to pray for us. That's all you do when you pray to an angel,
- 9:03you say, Saint Michael, the Archangel, pray for me, just
- 9:07as you would ask your brother, your sister, your mother, your father,
- 9:11your neighbor to pray for you. There's nothing unbiblical about that whatsoever.
- 9:18The Bible makes quite clear that God does give special graces to certain Christians who
- 9:24lives, especially holy and about lives. Several saints perform miracles during their lives
- 9:28and after death, and as recorded in the Bible, some were preserved from
- 9:33death assumed into Heaven without experiencing deaths, such as Enoch and Elijah. You
- 9:39know our Catholic tradition, tradition passed on by the apostles to their followers.
- 9:48That isn't necessarily written down in the Bible, because the Bible, as the
- 9:52Bible states, is just written so that you may believe. It does not
- 9:58contain all the words or deeds of g It does not contain everything that happened
- 10:03that the Apostles didn't said after the close of the Bible that actually has said.
- 10:09It's written in the Bible. Okay, our Catholic tradition tells us that
- 10:13the blessed Virgin Mary was assumed into heaven. She was the mother of God.
- 10:20Through Jesus, death was conquered. It's only appropriate that his mother,
- 10:26who carried him and raised him through whom God came to earth, would be
- 10:33preserved from death because she lived without sin. The angel Gabriel addressed her as
- 10:39full of grace before Jesus even entered the world. There's only one person on
- 10:45earth that had the grace given through Jesus before Jesus was even incarnate, and
- 10:52that's the blessed Virgin Mary. She was assumed bodily into heaven and never suffered
- 10:58death. Why is it so hard to believe Enoch and Elijah to the exact
- 11:05same, I mean, it actually says that can happen in the Bible.
- 11:09Protestants get all worked up about what doesn't say that in the Bible? Well,
- 11:11it did too for Enoch and Elijah. Why wouldn't you think it would
- 11:15happen in another time, especially in the case of the most special, fully
- 11:20human being that ever walk the face of the earth, who gave birth to
- 11:24God. She is the mother of God. Do you not think God would
- 11:31have a special feeling for his mother. Do you not think his mother and
- 11:37He had a special relationship that no two people on earth will ever experience.
- 11:45Well, do you think if you're a mother, do you think you and
- 11:46your child have a special relationship? What if that child was God? I
- 11:54mean, put it in human terms, it's pretty pretty hard not to not
- 12:00to understand. Really special graces have been granted to the Christian martyrs. They
- 12:07have a unique position in heaven. You know, read the Book of Revelation.
- 12:11We'll get into that the martyrs was in the white robes continually, you
- 12:18know, before the throne of God. The Bible also makes clear the role
- 12:22of angels not only as messengers of God, but as beings who advocate for
- 12:26each of us and for the church. You know, the again, Book
- 12:30of Revelations talks about the angel of the Church of wherever. I don't remember
- 12:37all the names of the church in the Book of the Revelations, but we
- 12:39get to it. Each one had an angel whose role was actually to protect
- 12:45and guide that church. You can either believe that's true, or you can
- 12:50disbelieve the Bible, in which case, if you're a Protestant who believes in
- 12:54the sole authority the Bible, You have no foundation for your religion. I
- 13:01think perhaps the biggest mistake process make is that they seem to think there's some
- 13:05how, some kind of competition in heaven. I mean, it's really weird.
- 13:09They think that if you ask an angel or a saint to pray for
- 13:13you, somehow it takes something away from Jesus. That's ridiculous on its face.
- 13:18They always say there's one mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ.
- 13:22Well, okay, but how does asking someone to pray for you make them
- 13:26a mediator? Just asking your living relative to pray for you somehow take rob
- 13:31God of the honor due him. When Saint Paul asked for others to pray
- 13:37for him, to that insult God. No, we are one body in
- 13:41Christ, each member supporting the other, and nowhere is that more true than
- 13:45heaven. Catholics never worship saints or angels. We venerate them, which means
- 13:50showing them the respect they are due for either living a holy life or being
- 13:56holy angels. We pray to them just as we would talk to a living
- 14:01person on earth. We worship God alone. We pray to saints and angels
- 14:07asking them to pray for us. We do that because we are all family,
- 14:11and we do that because the Bible tells us that their roles in heaven
- 14:15are to worship God and to pray for us. Earthly death does not make
- 14:20them love us less. Quite the opposite, They love us more and have
- 14:24more care for us. What does the Bible say about saints and angels.
- 14:30Let's just I don't know how far I can go into this today. We'll
- 14:33start with the Gospel of Matthew. You know, Matthew, Mark, Luke,
- 14:37and John You got to stay at the beginning, right Matthew eighteen ten.
- 14:43See, they never despise any of these little ones, for I tell
- 14:46you that their angels in heaven are constantly in the presence of my father in
- 14:50heaven. My Protestant friends, Jesus Christ just said that every single person born
- 14:58into this world, every child, every adult, has an angel in heaven
- 15:03continually in the presence of his Father advocating for each individual. You have a
- 15:11guardian angel. It's high time to admit it and to start a conversation with
- 15:18that guardian angel. If you haven't already. It's not superstition. If Jesus
- 15:24liftey isn't God Matthew twenty two, thirty one through through thirty two. As
- 15:33for the resurrection of the dead, have you never heard what God himself said
- 15:35to you. I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
- 15:39and the God of Jacob. He is the God not of the dead,
- 15:41but of the living. Those in heaven are more alive than we are here
- 15:46on earth, says later in the Bible. They become like God, they
- 15:50become like Jesus. You can pray to Jesus. He can hear your prayers.
- 15:56You can pray to a saint. They can hear your prayers. Saint
- 16:00is not God. You can talk to the saint because they are alive.
- 16:03They're as present and alive as your brother or sister sitting next to you.
- 16:08All you have to do is speak to them and ask please pray for me,
- 16:11and they will pray for you as a member of your family. And
- 16:15the Bible says God, here's the prayer of the righteous man. We know
- 16:18the people in heaven are righteous, or else they're not in heaven Mark twelve,
- 16:25twenty six or twenty seven. You know about the rising again? Have
- 16:29you never read in the Book of Moses in the passage about the Bush,
- 16:33how God spoke to him, said, I am the God of Abraham,
- 16:37the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. He is not the
- 16:38God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are very
- 16:42much mistaken that when someone tells you that the saints are dead, they can't
- 16:48hear you. Britain, they are very much mistaken, Moses, Abraham,
- 16:53you know, Saint Joseph, Saint Mary, to all the Holy Apostles.
- 17:03You know if your grandmother was a particularly saintly person. She's alive in heaven.
- 17:08That's what we believe as Christians, and she will pray for you because
- 17:12she still loves you. Next, we're going to get into the passage from
- 17:18Luke about Lazarus and the rich Man. This passage gives evidence that the dead
- 17:25who are not saints, even the ones who are not saints, continue to
- 17:27care about the living and advocate for their loved ones. This is also this
- 17:34is also evidence of purgatory, as the rich Man could not have been in
- 17:38hell given the nature of this passage. Hell is the absence of God and
- 17:44love. The souls in hell have rejected love and are entirely self consumed.
- 17:48They don't hear God, they don't listen to God, and they don't care
- 17:52about anything but themselves and their own suffering. For the rich man to be
- 17:57able to speak with Abraham indicates that he was in a place entirely different from
- 18:03Hell, and that place where faithful Jews were before Jesus opened Heaven following his
- 18:07crucifixion, was within sight. We read the story of the Crucifixion, the
- 18:14death of Jesus, the resurrection. He went and ministered to the dead.
- 18:18He opened the gates of heaven. We know that Moses, in Abraham and
- 18:22all the prophets were not in Hell. Okay, the Bible tells a set
- 18:27but Heaven had not been yet opened. There is, by definition, just
- 18:32from the plain reading of the Old Testament, a third place. The early
- 18:37Church fathers caught it Limba. It was a place between heaven and Hell,
- 18:41where the faithful Jews were before Jesus opened Heaven. There is certainly a third
- 18:48state of being. Catholics call it purgatory, where one works out their venial
- 18:56sins and their attachments to creation to the world before they can enter heaven.
- 19:03Because Jesus said nothing Impurican inner heaven if someone is a believing Christian. If
- 19:08someone loves God with all their heart and their neighbor as themselves, but they
- 19:14have committed some sin, that sin has to be paid for, as Jesus
- 19:18said, you know, you will pay every penny. He compared purgatory to
- 19:26a debtor's prison before that soul can interpurgatory. You know, we can have
- 19:30that discussion another day. I know Protestants don't believe that, but it's very
- 19:33biblical. It was believed by the Jews before Christianity, and it's it's actually
- 19:44Unchristian to believe otherwise because it puts one in the position of saying, either
- 19:52Jesus lied when he said nothing impurican inner heaven, because you can commit a
- 19:56sin and so have that sin on your conscience and enter heaven, in which
- 20:00case Jesus isn't God, or Jesus actually said what he meant and say.
- 20:07The Book of Maccabees that Martin Luther cut out of the Bible because it mentioned
- 20:11praying for the dead was right when it said we should pray for the dead
- 20:18for the repose of their souls because they may they're not in hell, because
- 20:22they're not evil people. They haven't rejected God, they didn't die in a
- 20:26state of mortal sin. But they can't enter heaven until they're purged of their
- 20:32venal sin and their attachments to sin or to love of the creation over the
- 20:37Creator. You know, think about that a little bit and you'll kind of
- 20:41figure it out. This passage in Luke is actually quite meaningful. Then if
- 20:52we think that the rich man who wasn't necessarily a bad man, according to
- 20:57this book of the Bible, he may not even been aware of lazarus sufferings,
- 21:03but he did not fulfill his role of charity to take care of the
- 21:08poor. You know, surprise, Martin Luther didn't cut this book out because
- 21:12that's one of the works Christians are commanded to do, which is to give
- 21:17alms to take care of the poor. But you really have to realize that,
- 21:25you know, this totally indicates that he was in a place different from
- 21:30Hell. You know. Just to wrap that up, I guess I'll just
- 21:33quote what Matthew. I think it was a book of Matthew. Amen,
- 21:41I say to thee, thou shalt not get out from Vince until thou'll pay
- 21:45the last farthing. It's what Jesus said, and Saint Paul as that many
- 21:52shall be saved as yet by fire. Purgatory is considered a place of purgation,
- 21:59a clean fire. That's Book and Corinthians. But Luke said, there
- 22:03was a rich man. He used to dress in purple and fine linen,
- 22:07and feast magnificently every day. And at his gate there used to lie a
- 22:12poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to fill himself with
- 22:18what fell from the rich man's table. Even dogs came and licked his swords.
- 22:22Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the
- 22:26angels into Abraham's embrace. The rich man also died and was buried in his
- 22:30torment in Hades. He looked up and saw Abraham a long way off,
- 22:34with Lazarus in his embrace. Remember used to be called the bosom of Abraham.
- 22:40That's where people were before the gates of heaven were open. No one
- 22:44could go to heaven until Jesus was crucified and resurrected. The faithful Jews rested
- 22:51in the Bosom of Abraham. So he cried out, Father Abraham, pity
- 22:55me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in cool water,
- 23:00and who cool my tongue? For I am in agony in these flames.
- 23:04Abraham said, my son, Remember that during your life you had your feel
- 23:08of good things, and Lazarus had his feel of bad. Now he is
- 23:12being comforted here while you are in agony. But that is not all between
- 23:17us and you. There is a great gulf, A great golf has been
- 23:19fixed to prevent those who want to cross from your side to hours, or
- 23:25from our side to yours. So he said, father, I beg you
- 23:27then send Lazarus to my father's house, since I have five brothers, to
- 23:32give them warning that they did not come to this place of torment too.
- 23:37Abraham said, they have Moses and the Prophets. Let them listen to them.
- 23:41Rich Man plied, I know, Father Abraham, but if someone comes
- 23:45to them from the dead, they will repent. And Abraham said to them,
- 23:48if they will not listen either to Moses of the prophets, they would
- 23:51not be convinced even if someone should rise from the dead. Very meaningful passage
- 23:56in so many ways. Here's a man who is not in heaven. It
- 24:00says that right there scissors in hades, right he's not resting in the bosom
- 24:06of Abraham because there's a chasm between him and the faithful Jews of the time.
- 24:15He's not in the depths of Hell because he can see Abraham, he
- 24:22can speak to him, and there's a complete utter separation. It's also mentioned
- 24:30fire fire, as Saint Paul said, many cells shall be saved, yet
- 24:34as so by fire. Fire is a sign of purgation. While we talk
- 24:40about the fires of Hell, many saints who have had visions of Hell say
- 24:44it is more like a place of freezing and ice. It's a cold place
- 24:48where people are entirely turned in on themselves, in dark and anguish. They
- 24:53don't care about other people, and they're not communicating with other people. They're
- 24:56totally consumed by themselves. Well, that makes sense, doesn't it. The
- 25:03rebellion of Satan against God was Satan said he would worship himself as his own
- 25:08God. Those who reject God essentially become like Satan, and any any modern
- 25:15Satanists, any devil worship are right. We'll tell you right now. They
- 25:19don't worship Satan. They worship themselves. They make themselves their own God.
- 25:26The rejection of God is the rejection of love. The rejection of love is
- 25:30the rejection of joy and warmth and kindness, and so hell would be this
- 25:36dark, cold, horrible place where people were entirely soon consumed with their own
- 25:42suffering, which is actually brought about by their unselfishness. So we see that
- 25:48the rich man, we know he wasn't in heaven. Okay, anybody can
- 25:52admit that, because the Bible says it. Okay, But here we see
- 25:56that he still has concern for his family. So will weave the question of
- 26:00purgatory for another day. You can believe it or disbelieve it. If you're
- 26:04Protestant, if you're a Catholic, you have to believe it. It's part
- 26:07of Catholic doctrine, and it's very biblically based. It's very based in the
- 26:12Christian and Judaic tradition, and it's very true. But if for this moment
- 26:18you can't accept it, here you see in the Bible is a dead man,
- 26:23still conscious, talking with a saint who is Abraham, and asking send
- 26:33someone to talk to my family so they don't suffer the same fate. The
- 26:38Protestant belief that somehow the people in heaven no longer care about their living relatives
- 26:42on earth is not only biblically unsound, it's logically unsound. We are the
- 26:48family and the body of God, the living body of God. Those on
- 26:53earth are part of the family, just as those in heaven are part of
- 26:56the family. The very essence of God is love and care. The thought
- 27:04that people in heaven would cease to care about their loved ones and cease to
- 27:08pray for their loved ones is well, it's it's illogical if you believe it
- 27:15in the afterlife, and it's actually incompatible with Christian belief and doctrine. What
- 27:22do you think they're doing up there, just having some kind of big party.
- 27:26Nothing in the Bible says that. It says they pray for God,
- 27:30they adore God, and pray for us here on earth. It says that.
- 27:33In Book of Revelations it says they witness for us. There's a great
- 27:40cloud of witnesses. As Saint Paul said, who do you think this cloud
- 27:44of witnesses is? If they can witness us, they're aware of what we're
- 27:48doing. Are they somehow cut off in heaven? You think they're in some
- 27:52kind of dark closet somewhere they put you know, blindfolds on, and they
- 27:56can't see us here on earth anymore. Nothing in the Bible says at all.
- 28:02I mean, that is completely illogical and it's unbiblical. Luke twenty says,
- 28:10as Moses himself implies that the dead rise again. In the passage about
- 28:15the Bush, he calls the Lord, the God of Abraham, the God
- 28:18of Isaac, the God of Jacob. Now he is God, not of
- 28:22the dead, but of the living. For to him everyone is alive.
- 28:27You see. To God, everyone is alive in heaven and on earth.
- 28:33And those in heaven, as we will later read, become like God and
- 28:40like the angels who are very aware of what we do here on earth and
- 28:45who advocate for us. I know that's hard to understand. I said this
- 28:52to a whelming Protestant lady a couple maybe a year ago. I said,
- 28:59she was asking about this very thing. I said, well, you know,
- 29:03those in heaven become like Jesus. And she said, I cannot believe
- 29:07that. You know, Jesus is God. And I said, but no,
- 29:11this is what the Bible said. This is actually what the Bible says,
- 29:17we take on somewhat of the divine nature. It doesn't mean we become
- 29:22God. It means we become like God in that we become filled with love
- 29:29and are no longer part of time outside of time. Just as Jesus can
- 29:34hear our prayers soak in the saints and probably won't get to it tonight.
- 29:41There's a lot more to go on what the Bible says about saints. This
- 29:45is going to be a two parter, or at least probably a three partter.
- 29:48But the Bible does actually says, you know, Jesus said you must
- 29:52become perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. Other places in the Bible,
- 29:59which we'll get two next time, says that those saints in heaven become like
- 30:04the angels in certain regards, and then we get to the Book of Revelation,
- 30:08which says they are witnessing and praying for us. So it's if you
- 30:15believe the Bible, you have no foundation to deny that the saints in heaven
- 30:22here our prayers and praying for us. You have absolutely no reason to deny
- 30:26that the angels are in heaven advocating for us, hearing our prayers and praying
- 30:32for us, because Jesus Christ himself said it about the children. That kind
- 30:38of wraps up the Gospels. Next we can get into Acts Corinthians and all
- 30:44that, and you know, show's gone a half hour. May as well
- 30:49wrap it up here and pick up tomorrow, and you know, we'll try
- 30:55to finish up the New Testament, maybe pull a couple verses from the Old
- 31:00Testament. As I said, Maccabees is very clear. Several books in the
- 31:06Old Testament will attest to this. And then we'll get into what the early
- 31:11church fathers said about it. What did the people actually learn from Jesus and
- 31:15the apostles believe? What did they write down after the close of the Bible.
- 31:19It's an interesting subject, and it's an odd it's a stupid division.
- 31:25Protestants should believe in angels and saints just as Catholics do, even if they
- 31:30can't accept the authority of the Catholic Church, because the Bible says it.
- 31:34And in so doing, I think the world would be a whole lot better
- 31:38place, a whole lot better place. We need the help of the angels
- 31:44and saints. That's part of the body of Christ. And if you know,
- 31:48if I can convince a whole lot of Protestants to realize that they have
- 31:52a guardian angel, and that their relatives in heaven are praying for them,
- 31:57and the whole family of God, which is way beyond your nuclear family,
- 32:05your immediate family, is actually loves you and is advocating for you, and
- 32:08is praying for you in heaven, just as you might ask your friend or
- 32:14your brother, or your sister or your mother to pray for you. You
- 32:17know, maybe you would lead to a whole lot less strife, a whole
- 32:22lot less division. I mean again, I believe it, Saint Paul.
- 32:25I think we'll get to it tomorrow pretty quickly. Are you not aware that
- 32:30we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. If the saints and angels
- 32:37in heaven cannot see us and hear us, then how can they be a
- 32:40cloud of witnesses? And if they don't care about us, how can they
- 32:45be Christians? Because to be a Christian is to love your neighbor as yourself
- 32:50and God with all your heart. And they are certainly alive. I just
- 32:57read from each of the four Gospels where it's says God is the God of
- 33:00the living and not of the dead. So it takes nothing away from Jesus
- 33:06for you to pray for your brother or sister or a friend. In fact,
- 33:10it builds up the body of Christ. And how much more so when
- 33:16it says God hears the prayers of the righteous, and the righteous of those
- 33:20who are in heaven, we should all be building each other up. That
- 33:24is sort of the whole message of Christianity. Love God with all your heart,
- 33:30and your neighbor as yourself, and there is an afterlife, and the
- 33:35words of Saint Padre Po. Y'all pray, hope and don't worry. Have
- 33:38a good one, and I would talk to you tomorrow.
