- 1:03Speaker 1: one five, one o two. They continue back to back

- 1:18Speaker 1: We call him Jackson, Felts calling.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Him genuine Jackson these.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Days, Genuine Jackson.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Hey, a genuine yes, and I think that he has
- 1:27Speaker 3: been very genuine about his thoughts on the Sounder side.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Fifa Felts has been retired and we're not back to
- 1:31Speaker 1: Furious Phils.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Jackson's got pre game to the other he can choose
- 1:35Speaker 2: ef g.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Jackson's got pregame tomorrow at six over on the nine
- 1:39Speaker 1: fifty am dial. In the NBA, Rich Paul Lebron, James's
- 1:43Speaker 1: agent and longtime friends, said yesterday he doesn't know when
- 1:46Speaker 1: his client will decide what team he'll play for next season.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Ho hum, wake me up when this is all over,
- 1:53Speaker 1: he said, quote, We're not going to be rushed. End quote.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That was Rich Paul, who said that in the latest
- 1:59Speaker 1: podcast he does Max Kellerman, by the way, Live Golf
- 2:03Speaker 1: suffering a potential setback today when the PGA Tour, European
- 2:08Speaker 1: Tour and Asian Tour or Asian Tour announced a strategic
- 2:11Speaker 1: alliance aimed at global collaboration, likely to affect the partnership
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Asian Tour had with Live. Oh poor Live, it
- 2:21Speaker 1: couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer guys to see
- 2:23Speaker 1: it in an alliance that takes an effect through twenty
- 2:26Speaker 1: twenty nine, the PGA Tour and European Tour, of course,
- 2:29Speaker 1: known commercially as a DP World Tour, will partner with
- 2:33Speaker 1: the Asian Tour to provide commercial and playing opportunities and
- 2:37Speaker 1: establish a path of the Asian Tour members to join
- 2:40Speaker 1: European Circus, which puts Live one step closer to going
- 2:43Speaker 1: the way of the usfl Mike Benton with Jessmon McIntyre
- 2:48Speaker 1: as well. Won't be long until Greg is back because
- 2:51Speaker 1: it just seems like the Seahawks and training camp is
- 2:54Speaker 1: going to hit us right in the face like that big,
- 2:57Speaker 1: massive title way that is coming this sat.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So yeah, and we will be out there starting.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Monday, everybody wall two wall coverage as you would expect,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and expect nothing less at Virginia Mason Athletics Center. It
- 3:13Speaker 1: still feels like yesterday we were all disassembling here from
- 3:18Speaker 1: the streets following the parade. But my goodness. July twenty first,
- 3:22Speaker 1: this weekend will open up Seahawks training camp. It is
- 3:25Speaker 1: t minus four days away. And then we jump right
- 3:30Speaker 1: into the deep end. With the words of Mike McDonald,
- 3:34Speaker 1: we did not care when it comes to wall two
- 3:36Speaker 1: wall coverage. So Gregan joined Time of Family. He's back soon,
- 3:40Speaker 1: but again Mike and with Jessmin after last night, the
- 3:43Speaker 1: Mariners who pounded the Reds eight nothing, And we're gonna
- 3:47Speaker 1: get Luke Arkins on with us here at ten twenty
- 3:50Speaker 1: your Mariner's newsletter of Feshonado ten forty five are also
- 3:54Speaker 1: going to get to the turning point of the ems?
- 3:57Speaker 1: Was this a turning point? After that eleven o'clock, Hugh
- 4:01Speaker 1: Millan are one and only Hugh Millan QB one will
- 4:04Speaker 1: be joining us, and we're gonna play a little game
- 4:06Speaker 1: of calm or concern with the Seahawks. And I bet
- 4:09Speaker 1: you're throwing your hands with thinking we just won a
- 4:12Speaker 1: Super Bowl about four months ago, Like what is their
- 4:16Speaker 1: two or five months ago? What is there to be
- 4:18Speaker 1: concerned about? Well, I get it. A lot is calm
- 4:22Speaker 1: and Seahawks waters here, but this is content for content
- 4:24Speaker 1: saying and I think worth the discussion because there's a
- 4:26Speaker 1: lot of underlying parts of this football team that are
- 4:29Speaker 1: going to make a difference because really so much and Jess,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think you would agree had to go right for
- 4:34Speaker 1: them to win the Super Bowl last year.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It certainly did, But I don't think that's the only
- 4:38Speaker 3: reason that they did win the Super Bowl. There were
- 4:40Speaker 3: a lot of things that did go right and certain things,
- 4:44Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sorry, the NFC West beat the ever
- 4:46Speaker 3: loving snot out of each other and we have seen
- 4:49Speaker 3: that kind of become a tradition for this division.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But that the injuries or whatever you want to say.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Zach Sharbonay being a polite man and picking up a
- 4:58Speaker 3: ball with his foot in the end zone kind of
- 5:00Speaker 3: accidentally scoring a touchdown that was a game changer for that,
- 5:04Speaker 3: I don't think it takes away with the talent that
- 5:06Speaker 3: from the talent that's on this team, Like the Patriots
- 5:09Speaker 3: were the ones that got lucky, and unfortunately with the
- 5:11Speaker 3: bow Nick's injury, so you know, during that game or
- 5:16Speaker 3: right before the AFC.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Championship, that was luck.
- 5:20Speaker 3: The Seahawks have a plan and we saw it very
- 5:23Speaker 3: well executed in that Super Bowl.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But do you feel that that this team has earned
- 5:26Speaker 1: enough respect At this point, as we're getting closer and
- 5:29Speaker 1: closer to the NFL training camp, do you even get.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Really level or from a local level national I think
- 5:37Speaker 3: they've earned a decent amount. I didn't see a lot
- 5:39Speaker 3: of disrespectful comments come out after the Super Bowl or
- 5:44Speaker 3: during the Super Bowl. I think it was a little
- 5:46Speaker 3: odd of away. Mike McDonald has a very specific plan.
- 5:50Speaker 3: They controlled that entire game. But I'm looking up at
- 5:53Speaker 3: fifteen nothing and I'm not comfortable.
- 5:56Speaker 1: You weren't comfortable with fifteen nothing?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Really?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Nope, because the first couple of field goals.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I mean they that's control. He doesn't need to see
- 6:04Speaker 2: the end zone.
- 6:05Speaker 3: He's a defensive base coach and he's going to control
- 6:08Speaker 3: the field.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And they just had it the whole time.
- 6:10Speaker 3: So I was comfortable basically once they got in the
- 6:14Speaker 3: end zone.
- 6:15Speaker 1: As soon as they put the first few points on
- 6:17Speaker 1: the board, I was thinking that they had to control
- 6:19Speaker 1: this thing. And they tacked on more. I was like,
- 6:21Speaker 1: it's over. It's really over. Because New England had no answer,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and this is a different Seahawks team as far as
- 6:28Speaker 1: an identity versus ten eleven years ago, where ten eleven
- 6:33Speaker 1: years ago it was loud, it was brash, it was
- 6:37Speaker 1: in your face, it was a SoundBite a minute. This
- 6:41Speaker 1: is more of I think, what's the best word I
- 6:45Speaker 1: can put this? The quiet approach.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yes, that's exactly what it is.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You put teams to sleep, but they know how to
- 6:52Speaker 1: do it in a surgical like fashion.
- 6:55Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 6:56Speaker 3: And when it comes to the disrespect question that you
- 6:58Speaker 3: asked on and now a level like if you just
- 7:01Speaker 3: look at these rankings that people put out way too
- 7:04Speaker 3: early and way too soon, because NFL is twenty four
- 7:07Speaker 3: to seven, three sixty five these days, three sixty six on.
- 7:10Speaker 1: A leap year, they make it four hundred. If they could,
- 7:14Speaker 1: they would.
- 7:15Speaker 2: They might change our lunar calendar just to get more.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And but we're playing games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, any
- 7:23Speaker 1: game or really any game any day ending and why.
- 7:26Speaker 2: We're getting there.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But what I would say is that, yes, I do
- 7:30Speaker 3: think they're being slightly disrespected as the defending Super Bowl champion.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And you see the Rams ranked ahead of them right now?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so four nine, four or five one to komodash
- 7:40Speaker 1: text line, But I want to hear your top backs
- 7:41Speaker 1: are open for business right now. Find the iHeartRadio app
- 7:44Speaker 1: hit the red mic icon. Give us what she got
- 7:48Speaker 1: thirty seconds or less. It doesn't take much. But again,
- 7:51Speaker 1: is it more important that this team is feared and
- 7:54Speaker 1: respected and cast a shadow of an aura like they
- 7:57Speaker 1: had maybe ten eleven years ago, or are you okay
- 8:00Speaker 1: with leaning into the word the fly in the ointment
- 8:02Speaker 1: of the NFL's tapestry and just leaning into this hole.
- 8:05Speaker 1: We did not care thing until this era is all
- 8:07Speaker 1: done and we can just say what a run it was,
- 8:10Speaker 1: what fun it was as well? It was what to
- 8:12Speaker 1: remember here for the books. But give us right now
- 8:14Speaker 1: what your thoughts are via talkbacks. Do you want this
- 8:17Speaker 1: team to be more feared and respected or is it
- 8:20Speaker 1: better that they keep sneaking up from behind on other teams?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Because the NFC West again, it's gonna get bonkers. We
- 8:28Speaker 1: saw what the Rams did, the Niners getting Mike Evans
- 8:31Speaker 1: as well, they're gonna be hanging around. But to give
- 8:33Speaker 1: us what you got. But rounding all this out here,
- 8:36Speaker 1: we're gonna get to Luke Arkins at about ten twenty
- 8:38Speaker 1: because after last night it was so important I thought
- 8:41Speaker 1: just to kind of identify where the turning point maybe
- 8:43Speaker 1: was here for this baseball team. I remember last week
- 8:47Speaker 1: where Friday, first game out of the gate against the Giants,
- 8:52Speaker 1: dead in the water. Saturday, no runs on the board
- 8:57Speaker 1: until Cole Young absolutely had toed a hangar from Logan
- 9:02Speaker 1: Web and they had to get some help because Web
- 9:04Speaker 1: was melting down on the mound to get them there
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the first place. But was that a spark that
- 9:10Speaker 1: we could go back and look and say this is
- 9:13Speaker 1: where they began to really light the fuse. But then
- 9:16Speaker 1: we're gonna get to some comments here after Luke Harkins
- 9:19Speaker 1: from cal Rawley that I'm sure you've heard already, but
- 9:22Speaker 1: there's a deeper meaning into this baseball team. Had they
- 9:26Speaker 1: gotten mad enough last night? Did they get mad enough?
- 9:30Speaker 1: And was enough to show that they had to get
- 9:33Speaker 1: mad enough for energy in the dugout to carry them
- 9:37Speaker 1: now into July, later into August, into September and end
- 9:43Speaker 1: of the postseason because leaders put this all on themselves.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And a great point I thought that Chuck pal made
- 9:50Speaker 1: earlier this morning. How can you ask another guy to
- 9:54Speaker 1: raise his game when you're having difficulty of raising yours?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that takes away from the leadership
- 10:02Speaker 3: role because you can't step into it like you had before.
- 10:05Speaker 3: And I think Cal is a very lead by example guy.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I don't think he's a very and this is just
- 10:11Speaker 3: from my own observations, but from what I have observed,
- 10:15Speaker 3: he is. I'm going to do it, and I'm going
- 10:17Speaker 3: to lead by example like he leads like that. There
- 10:19Speaker 3: are some other guys that will be more of the talkers,
- 10:22Speaker 3: more of the rab ras, and there's all different things
- 10:24Speaker 3: like that.
- 10:24Speaker 1: There's also intensity, and George Kirby is in his own
- 10:28Speaker 1: category of intensity.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yes, there's also the intense guys where it's like the
- 10:32Speaker 3: fear strikes in you.
- 10:34Speaker 2: When you walk by them. Don't look at him in
- 10:35Speaker 2: the face.
- 10:37Speaker 3: But Gino Suarez is a perfect example of you know,
- 10:41Speaker 3: the vocal one, the good vibes guy, and Cal to
- 10:46Speaker 3: be able to do that, that just must be a
- 10:48Speaker 3: huge weight lifted off of him, just to you know,
- 10:51Speaker 3: show up in a big way now in a game
- 10:54Speaker 3: where they handily won and the bats came alive for everybody.
- 10:58Speaker 3: That's the kind of ball we want to see. And
- 11:00Speaker 3: I hope that there's less pressure on him now and
- 11:03Speaker 3: he can be the leader that we know he is.
- 11:06Speaker 3: But when you lead by example and the example isn't there.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I think that puts makes it more difficult.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It was because of that leader by example thing that
- 11:14Speaker 1: led him to meeting the moment, because this game was
- 11:17Speaker 1: very much in doubt, very much in the balance until
- 11:19Speaker 1: the seventh inning of last night's game. It took literally
- 11:26Speaker 1: Rad's manager Terry Francona, to disrespect your best hitter on
- 11:31Speaker 1: your baseball team, who had a historic run from last season,
- 11:35Speaker 1: to basically go and disrespect the first pitch that he
- 11:38Speaker 1: saw and disrespect the baseball nearly about four hundred and
- 11:42Speaker 1: twenty feet.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, just one year ago. Say we're gonna walk to
- 11:45Speaker 2: get to Cal.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Can you and no, this is where the Mariners were at.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But Cal lost all respect he had Leftyon left he
- 11:55Speaker 1: can zone versus Ferguson, and Francona said, I'd rather walk
- 11:59Speaker 1: can zone to get to Cal Rawley, who's a switch hitter,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and then and then I'll turn around cal Rawley fun
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think we'll beat him. And then finally Cal said nope.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And you can tell from the post game his comments.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Will air these here in a little bit in case
- 12:13Speaker 1: you missed it, but there is something that ticked him
- 12:17Speaker 1: off inside when he was surprised that the Reds preferred
- 12:21Speaker 1: to walk can zone to get to him. Cal Rawly said,
- 12:26Speaker 1: not on my watch, And that fired the dugout right
- 12:29Speaker 1: back up. And here they are, all of a sudden,
- 12:31Speaker 1: winners of three.
- 12:32Speaker 2: In a row.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I was just gonna say that sometimes the anger can
- 12:35Speaker 3: be like a demon. It cannot fire you up. Sometimes
- 12:39Speaker 3: the anger is bad for people. If he had a
- 12:41Speaker 3: fire in him, we saw it come out in the
- 12:44Speaker 3: best way possibly.
- 12:44Speaker 1: All right, So how is this fire going to define
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Mariners? The gravity of this homestand and what's going
- 12:49Speaker 1: to happen here with this team coming up leading up
- 12:52Speaker 1: to trade deadline time? Cal Rawley, everybody else as well.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Luke carkins, you're Mariners newsletter of Fiheronado joins us next
- 12:59Speaker 1: right here, three kJ arafin.
- 13:17Speaker 5: All right.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Last night seven runs, thirteen hits, no airs for the Mariners,
- 13:22Speaker 1: no runs, three hits, one air four the Cincinnati Reds,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and the Mariners now own a three game winning streak
- 13:31Speaker 1: after it appeared they were dead in the water after Friday,
- 13:34Speaker 1: losing seven to nothing to the lowly San Francisco Giants.
- 13:40Speaker 1: But here they are, all of a sudden, where pitching
- 13:43Speaker 1: is shoving, and now you're getting signs of life from
- 13:46Speaker 1: cal Rawley, plus also a hot bat here from a
- 13:49Speaker 1: guy we call Cole Young. The future is bright for him,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but how bright is this going to be. We're gonna
- 13:54Speaker 1: break this down right now, Mike, with Jessamine in for
- 13:57Speaker 1: Greg Bell, and the one and only Luke Arkans also
- 14:00Speaker 1: joining us without further Ado on the Beacon plumbing hotline.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Of course, he is your Mariners newsletter A fish Shonado.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Louke Kai, Hello, how are you? Where are you right now?
- 14:11Speaker 6: I am Hi, Mike. I am in uh North Bend.
- 14:15Speaker 1: All you're getting out to North Bend or a little further.
- 14:18Speaker 6: I well, I had a doctor's a planning this morning,
- 14:21Speaker 6: and the traffic through Bellevue is quite sporty, so I
- 14:24Speaker 6: decided to stop at North Bend so I wouldn't be
- 14:26Speaker 6: in the middle of nowhere.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I've been there before, and I had been, I want
- 14:30Speaker 1: to say, stuck on a phone somewhere at the very
- 14:33Speaker 1: top of the mountains, past snow Qualm. It is not fun.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It is not a treat. But I appreciate you doing
- 14:40Speaker 1: this year, joining us right now after what was last
- 14:44Speaker 1: night a very satisfying win Luke, I can say that
- 14:46Speaker 1: we've had something I think in that nature in a
- 14:50Speaker 1: long long time. But before I kind of get into
- 14:53Speaker 1: the gravity of this homestand I mean, the man who
- 14:56Speaker 1: met the moment that was cal Rawley, who was disrespected
- 14:59Speaker 1: by maybe Terry Francona bte by some opinion. You go
- 15:03Speaker 1: ahead and walk lefty on lefty to Ashley, turn around
- 15:07Speaker 1: a guy who last year hit sixty big ones and
- 15:11Speaker 1: turned around to face lefty on roddy, and he just
- 15:13Speaker 1: goes right out and punishes the first pitch he saw.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And in the words of Michael Jordan, after seeing that
- 15:19Speaker 1: intentional walk, I was disrespected, to paraphrase that. But what
- 15:25Speaker 1: did you define out of that moment as far as
- 15:27Speaker 1: we cal Rawly did, and maybe how this affects his team.
- 15:32Speaker 6: Well, first I have to say, and I said it
- 15:34Speaker 6: on Twitter last night, that I could see where Terry
- 15:37Speaker 6: Francona was coming from, because this season Don can Zone
- 15:42Speaker 6: has been much better thaanst left handed pitching, although he's
- 15:44Speaker 6: a left handed hitter than cal Rawley. Cal Rawley was
- 15:48Speaker 6: slugging I think one before last night against left handed
- 15:51Speaker 6: pitching and it certainly helped that Caleb Ferguson through that
- 15:57Speaker 6: hanging breaking ball right over the middle of plate on
- 15:59Speaker 6: first pitch. But kudos to cal for hitting a home run.
- 16:02Speaker 6: He has to hit the home run. You know, I
- 16:04Speaker 6: could be staying uhing and I know I wouldn't have
- 16:05Speaker 6: hit a home run. I wouldn't I wouldn't have bial,
- 16:09Speaker 6: I wouldn't even hit it. But it's a big moment certainly.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Uh.
- 16:13Speaker 6: The Mariners have feasted on the bullpens of two bad
- 16:17Speaker 6: teams over the last three games, and that is important.
- 16:20Speaker 6: You have to do those things, but it certainly would
- 16:22Speaker 6: be nice to pick up some momentum and uh and
- 16:25Speaker 6: take it past this series. You have to go to Texas.
- 16:28Speaker 6: They have to go to play the Dodgers, and they're
- 16:31Speaker 6: gonna have to beat some good teams. They can't just
- 16:34Speaker 6: you know, beat up on the bad guys because the
- 16:39Speaker 6: other you know, your competition for these playoff spots are
- 16:42Speaker 6: also playing those teams, and so you're gonna have to
- 16:45Speaker 6: start beating teams. And especially if you you envision yourself
- 16:48Speaker 6: as a World Series contender, you're gonna have to play
- 16:51Speaker 6: good teams in the postseason and you may as well
- 16:53Speaker 6: start beating them now.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Now, I mean, it just seemed as if for a
- 16:56Speaker 1: while it was just nothing but to the bottom feeders
- 16:58Speaker 1: that you're feasting off here. But it's such a great
- 17:01Speaker 1: point because after this, I don't know if you want
- 17:03Speaker 1: to call it Murderer's row, but my goodness, the hill
- 17:06Speaker 1: gets even steeper up here. And I say drastically because
- 17:09Speaker 1: even after Texas, I mean you mentioned this three games
- 17:12Speaker 1: at the Dodgers, the Twins are kind of hanging around
- 17:15Speaker 1: this right now. Detroit, whatever you want to make of then.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But Tampa Bay, my goodness, they're playing lights out baseball
- 17:21Speaker 1: at the Yankees, then at Houston, your division rival at Milwaukee,
- 17:26Speaker 1: all of a sudden, taking the mantle now for the
- 17:28Speaker 1: best record in baseball. Then you got the Cubs, then
- 17:30Speaker 1: you got the Phillies. In the Blue Jays, a hitch
- 17:32Speaker 1: just keep on coming, and you really can't breathe here
- 17:35Speaker 1: until about i'd say mid September, when you go and
- 17:38Speaker 1: face the Angels at about September fourteenth, and by then
- 17:42Speaker 1: your fate already might be decided here. But getting back
- 17:45Speaker 1: to cal Rawley, besides the swing that he put on
- 17:48Speaker 1: and all that he has been fighting this year with mechanics,
- 17:52Speaker 1: with health, how far along are you convinced maybe that
- 17:56Speaker 1: this might be a turning point.
- 18:00Speaker 6: I'm not sure what to make of just last night,
- 18:03Speaker 6: because he really hadn't done a lot since its short span,
- 18:07Speaker 6: since the all start break. But for me, my expectations
- 18:11Speaker 6: if he's healthy and once he gets his swing where
- 18:14Speaker 6: he wants his swings. Let's he's a switch hitter, so
- 18:17Speaker 6: there's two swings to manage. H I see to him
- 18:22Speaker 6: as a probably a twenty five to thirty percent above
- 18:26Speaker 6: the league average as far as productivity, and I think
- 18:31Speaker 6: that's a reasonable expectation. Was that's what he's done. You know,
- 18:34Speaker 6: take put last year aside and just look at the
- 18:36Speaker 6: years prior, the three years prior. That's basically what he was.
- 18:39Speaker 6: He's twenty you know, WRC plus one twenty five to
- 18:43Speaker 6: one thirty, and WRC plus is average is one hundred
- 18:47Speaker 6: every year, and so if you're a one twenty five,
- 18:49Speaker 6: you're twenty five percent above the league average. And that
- 18:52Speaker 6: is what he has been. And so if he's healthy,
- 18:56Speaker 6: he could still be a very productive hitter. Bro at
- 18:58Speaker 6: this point he is league average, that would be pretty good.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I think. Also, yeah, go ahead, yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 6: And I would say the same to him for Josh Nayler. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 6: don Jacob Crawford. Yeah, you know, if we just had
- 19:12Speaker 6: more league average guys to go with that great pitching
- 19:14Speaker 6: and then a few guys really crushing it, it'd be okay.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Ye yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Luke Ark is joining us right now on the Beacon
- 19:21Speaker 1: Plumbing hot line. I want to get to dom can
- 19:23Speaker 1: zone as well, because I mean, what, once upon a
- 19:26Speaker 1: time he was a guy that was called up. You
- 19:28Speaker 1: put him in, you plug him in where you can
- 19:30Speaker 1: maybe fit him in here, there's a platoon thing going on.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But all of a sudden, now he's not just getting opportunities,
- 19:38Speaker 1: which says enough with how this baseball team operates against lefties,
- 19:42Speaker 1: but he's now all of a sudden starting to produce
- 19:44Speaker 1: against lefties. And then you, all of a sudden get
- 19:46Speaker 1: to the point last night where again Terry Francona prefers
- 19:49Speaker 1: to avoid him to go to cal Rawley. So I
- 19:53Speaker 1: think to you, what level of surprise are you seeing
- 19:56Speaker 1: with where dom Can zone is at now in this lineup?
- 20:01Speaker 6: Well, you know, the second half last year he hit
- 20:04Speaker 6: left handed pitching. He was a small sample, so it's
- 20:06Speaker 6: tough to say he had figured it out. Or that
- 20:09Speaker 6: he was going to be productive. But I was surprised
- 20:12Speaker 6: coming into the season that they the managers didn't give
- 20:14Speaker 6: him more opportunities based on what he did when they
- 20:17Speaker 6: gave him a chance last year. Instead, they went really
- 20:21Speaker 6: to the straight platoon, and then once the platoon wasn't working,
- 20:24Speaker 6: it they took it took a long time for them
- 20:26Speaker 6: to finally give him an opportunity against lefties, and he's
- 20:30Speaker 6: delivered and still at this small sample and it's you
- 20:34Speaker 6: can't say with certainty that he is going to be
- 20:36Speaker 6: this hitter against lefties for the rest of his career.
- 20:38Speaker 6: But if he's just decent against left east and then
- 20:41Speaker 6: great against right, he's you have a very good You
- 20:43Speaker 6: have a very good hitter you can play every day.
- 20:46Speaker 6: And I believe he can be that guy. But he's
- 20:49Speaker 6: always been a guy that they could hit right handed pitching.
- 20:53Speaker 6: And but the thing for him is he has to
- 20:55Speaker 6: hit because the defense is not it's below average, his
- 20:59Speaker 6: speed is slightly blow average, and so his value will
- 21:04Speaker 6: always be with his bat. And uh, it's a nice
- 21:07Speaker 6: thing to see that he's flourished into the player that
- 21:09Speaker 6: he is this year for them, where would they be
- 21:11Speaker 6: without Dominic Canzo helping out there. I mean it's it's
- 21:15Speaker 6: it's been a nice thing to see.
- 21:17Speaker 1: What about Coley Young, Where are they without him?
- 21:23Speaker 6: Uh, they're the definitely would have lost a few more
- 21:28Speaker 6: games for them.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 6: God, he's still a work in pro like he's not
- 21:37Speaker 6: he's not hitting left handed, pitching particularly well. Uh, he's
- 21:40Speaker 6: hitting about the same as last year, which was a
- 21:43Speaker 6: weakness for him early in the season. He was. Uh,
- 21:47Speaker 6: but he's he's a good player. He's a good solid
- 21:49Speaker 6: player to have on your team, and he's definitely providing value.
- 21:54Speaker 6: And what he becomes we will see, but they would
- 21:59Speaker 6: they definitely need The guy.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Who is producing right now is again Luke Arkan's joining
- 22:04Speaker 1: us right now with the Beacon Plumbing hotline. I mean
- 22:06Speaker 1: he's He's had a couple of big hits here for
- 22:08Speaker 1: this team to come. I even think going back to
- 22:10Speaker 1: the Giant Series and what he did back on Saturday
- 22:13Speaker 1: to kind of help maybe turn matters around, if not
- 22:15Speaker 1: for the long term future, at least for that series.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But you've got him. You had no JP Crawford last night.
- 22:21Speaker 1: You know where he factors in big question mark there's
- 22:24Speaker 1: Cole Emerson's place in this line up period to factor in.
- 22:27Speaker 1: So this all kind of ties into Brendan Donovan when
- 22:31Speaker 1: he is finally back, I mean finally with a capital
- 22:34Speaker 1: F here at this point, where where where does this
- 22:38Speaker 1: all fit? I think as far as once you plug
- 22:41Speaker 1: Donovan in, what suits this baseball team the best, considering
- 22:45Speaker 1: where JP plays, how much he plays, where Cole Young plays,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and where Cole Emerson's fit is also in this as well.
- 22:52Speaker 6: I believe col Emerson is the odd man out here.
- 22:56Speaker 6: I know that marenis Twitter is being sidekick on the
- 23:00Speaker 6: hit but that's not you know, because I'm always pointing
- 23:02Speaker 6: out his high strike out rate and it's his low production.
- 23:07Speaker 6: But he's he's really struggling right now. He's dotting averages
- 23:11Speaker 6: somewhere around one ninety right now. His defense is average. Uh,
- 23:15Speaker 6: he's I don't know if he's a he's a long
- 23:18Speaker 6: term shortstop. But I can see why the Marion as
- 23:22Speaker 6: signed to an extension. But for this year, if you're
- 23:24Speaker 6: trying to win, it's it's not a failure. And if
- 23:27Speaker 6: he were to go back to Tacoma and work on
- 23:30Speaker 6: some things, and so if he's moved and maybe Cole
- 23:33Speaker 6: Young plays more shortstop. Maybe JP plays some shortstop and
- 23:38Speaker 6: then Brendan Donovan and m JP are playing some third base,
- 23:43Speaker 6: you know, whatever the mix and matches there, and and
- 23:49Speaker 6: but if I had to pick one, it would be
- 23:50Speaker 6: Emerson would be the guy that's out. But let's let's
- 23:52Speaker 6: wait for Donovan to get back before we we we
- 23:56Speaker 6: we send the kid back to Tacoma.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Luke, I.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Wanted to follow up on that, when you say the
- 24:02Speaker 3: kid back to Tacoma. We've seen some confidence killers when
- 24:05Speaker 3: it comes to guys being and I'm not saying that
- 24:07Speaker 3: Colt was brought up too early, but we have seen
- 24:10Speaker 3: in the past, and there's a couple of notable names,
- 24:13Speaker 3: very high round draft picks or trade options that we
- 24:16Speaker 3: have acquired here that did have a little bit of
- 24:21Speaker 3: an I five syndrome of coming back up and down
- 24:24Speaker 3: and up and down, and I'm wondering if they would
- 24:27Speaker 3: retain him. As we see with veterans, you don't want
- 24:30Speaker 3: to kill the lock or the clubhouse. I should say,
- 24:33Speaker 3: you don't want to kill that vibe when it comes
- 24:35Speaker 3: to veterans. But when it comes to a young guy,
- 24:37Speaker 3: does it worry you about killing that confidence and almost
- 24:41Speaker 3: shaking up what the progression of he could be as
- 24:43Speaker 3: an athlete.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I believe it could hurt his confidence. Jess Mana and
- 24:49Speaker 6: I had some doubts that Again, Manors Twitter was very angry.
- 24:53Speaker 6: And then when I pointed out his strikeout ray was
- 24:55Speaker 6: about twenty eight percent, call that. And he wasn't in
- 24:58Speaker 6: Tacoma for a very long time this year, nor was
- 25:00Speaker 6: he at the end of last season. But he struck
- 25:02Speaker 6: out a lot more than he did at Double A.
- 25:05Speaker 6: And my thought is, if you're striking out at nearly
- 25:08Speaker 6: thirty percent in the minors, you're probably going to strike
- 25:11Speaker 6: out more in the majors because the pitching is better
- 25:15Speaker 6: and all that. I do wonder where's the tipping point
- 25:20Speaker 6: for someone like that. Clearly, the you know, the management
- 25:25Speaker 6: is there every day talking to the player. They know
- 25:28Speaker 6: the player. But you know, there's two things. One you
- 25:33Speaker 6: want to protect the player and two you want to win.
- 25:36Speaker 6: And what's the best move to make that happen, and
- 25:40Speaker 6: maybe sending him back down And let's remember, you know,
- 25:43Speaker 6: it's been a few years now, but Mike Trout was
- 25:45Speaker 6: sent down and he came back and he was he
- 25:48Speaker 6: never went back down. And I'm not saying he's the
- 25:50Speaker 6: next Mike Trout. I'm just saying that a great player
- 25:52Speaker 6: like Mike Trout can be sent down and still come back,
- 25:57Speaker 6: have the confidence and then become a but he's gonna be.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's such a great point because I even go
- 26:02Speaker 1: to the NHL where we can talk about you know,
- 26:05Speaker 1: player A player B, you know, can't miss guy coming
- 26:09Speaker 1: up the ranks. All of a sudden, he figures out, Hey,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I'm playing with the big boys, and life wasn't as
- 26:15Speaker 1: easy as compared to when I was playing against maybe
- 26:17Speaker 1: less skilled talent. But when you go play with the
- 26:20Speaker 1: big boys, despite being a young man's game, you are
- 26:23Speaker 1: expected to jump right in with no hiccups. It is
- 26:27Speaker 1: not a developmental league. Lou Gark is joining us right
- 26:30Speaker 1: now here in the Beacon plumbing hot lines. So I
- 26:32Speaker 1: go back to cold Emerson once again. Should there be
- 26:35Speaker 1: a triple A stint for him? At some point you
- 26:39Speaker 1: mentioned things he's got to work on to you. Is
- 26:41Speaker 1: this more mental or is this more technical?
- 26:45Speaker 6: I'm guessing it's technical because there's something that you know now.
- 26:49Speaker 6: They're they're throwing, you know, the high fastball, and he's
- 26:53Speaker 6: just not just like cal He's not he's not getting it,
- 26:58Speaker 6: and he's is a lot of swinging with that, and
- 27:01Speaker 6: so I would that's what I think. Of course, I'm
- 27:04Speaker 6: a nerd and I'm not the smart guy when it
- 27:08Speaker 6: comes to looking at wings like that, but certainly, and
- 27:12Speaker 6: the other thing I would say, just on Emerson, and
- 27:14Speaker 6: I love the kid, and just because I point out
- 27:18Speaker 6: some things, it isn't that I that I don't like him.
- 27:21Speaker 6: It's a matter of I am concerned about his long
- 27:24Speaker 6: term success. But you know, rhetorical question, is he even
- 27:29Speaker 6: with the Mariners if Brendan Donovan never gets.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Hurt, which is a great question I think here.
- 27:36Speaker 6: I mean, he was brought up probably quickly because there
- 27:39Speaker 6: was an injury, and now Donovan's injury has lingered, probably
- 27:42Speaker 6: longer than the Manners thought it would, and so they
- 27:45Speaker 6: don't really have another answer other than to stick with
- 27:47Speaker 6: the kid right now. So that's why I think when
- 27:51Speaker 6: when Donovan comes back finally with the big f like
- 27:54Speaker 6: you said, then he will, uh, it would make sense
- 27:57Speaker 6: to send Emerson back down.
- 28:00Speaker 1: There's just still a thing that that might be about
- 28:02Speaker 1: roughly a month away until Donovan has finally said to
- 28:04Speaker 1: return here to the big leagues. I want to get
- 28:07Speaker 1: to George Kirby. Last night, once again sixth grade quality
- 28:09Speaker 1: started appears that once again he's getting his game dialed
- 28:12Speaker 1: up for what it means the most at this time
- 28:14Speaker 1: of year. Six innings but out after eighty pitches. How
- 28:18Speaker 1: surprised were you to see him out that quick and
- 28:21Speaker 1: then going to Nick Davila in the seventh I.
- 28:24Speaker 6: Was surprised, especially, you know, maybe there's there's a reason
- 28:29Speaker 6: that we don't know that. You know, between Pete Woodward
- 28:33Speaker 6: and Dan Wilson and George Kirby, there was a discussion
- 28:37Speaker 6: about something as to why they would pull him early
- 28:42Speaker 6: going into the game. Maybe they had that sort of plan.
- 28:44Speaker 6: But when you look at the time off and the
- 28:48Speaker 6: situation with the bullpen, it certainly was interesting. You know,
- 28:52Speaker 6: it's great the Marinis scored a bunch of runs and
- 28:54Speaker 6: that that made that problem potential prom go away, but
- 28:58Speaker 6: it's sort of what were they going to do in
- 29:00Speaker 6: the ninth inning it was still one one zero game.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's no.
- 29:04Speaker 6: But it's just like if they if they if they
- 29:07Speaker 6: end up losing the game because they're with their second
- 29:10Speaker 6: or third level reliever in the ninth inning or in
- 29:14Speaker 6: the eighth inning. Are we questioning Dan Wilson again, Well,
- 29:19Speaker 6: we don't have to worry about because the teams that
- 29:21Speaker 6: bailed them out on that particular point, and.
- 29:24Speaker 1: One guy that was in the middle of all of
- 29:26Speaker 1: that from where we go back to the piggyback thing
- 29:28Speaker 1: was Luis Castil. He'll start tonight here against this former
- 29:31Speaker 1: team against the Reds, and they've at least put this
- 29:34Speaker 1: piggyback thing to bed. It's a six man rotation as
- 29:36Speaker 1: of right now here for this homestand but I think
- 29:39Speaker 1: a great question to ask is, you know, how's this
- 29:42Speaker 1: all going to sort of self out? Whether you go
- 29:44Speaker 1: to the trade market for a guy and try to
- 29:46Speaker 1: release the pressure valve here with this rotation. But then
- 29:50Speaker 1: it begs the question of what do they do once
- 29:52Speaker 1: Kate Anderson or Ryan Sloan and or Ryan Sloan are
- 29:56Speaker 1: also called up if they are called up here for
- 29:58Speaker 1: this baseball team, if they're still hanging around here for
- 30:01Speaker 1: this stretch drives. So you know, I think once Anderson
- 30:05Speaker 1: and or Sloan are up here, where do you begin
- 30:07Speaker 1: with expectations?
- 30:10Speaker 6: Well, I'm hopeful that there'll be like two or three
- 30:13Speaker 6: piggybacks just because I know how much you like it,
- 30:16Speaker 6: We'll just everybody. Everybody would be piggybacked. I guess it
- 30:22Speaker 6: depends on what the Manners anticipate to do with those
- 30:24Speaker 6: two guys as far as workload, what's their limitation And
- 30:29Speaker 6: you know, I always say too, like keep an eye
- 30:33Speaker 6: on what they're doing. If those two guys are doing
- 30:36Speaker 6: in the miners, how often are they pitching? If they're
- 30:39Speaker 6: right now, they're on a six six man cycle once
- 30:43Speaker 6: a week basically pitching cycle. And so if that were
- 30:46Speaker 6: the change, if they started working out of the bullpenal,
- 30:48Speaker 6: or maybe it was short to a five day rotation,
- 30:51Speaker 6: then that might be a signal that the Mariners are
- 30:54Speaker 6: starting to prepare to bring the player up. That's just
- 30:57Speaker 6: my thought on it. I don't know right now. I'm
- 31:02Speaker 6: pretty happy with the rotation as it is. I don't
- 31:04Speaker 6: know that that's where I want to get better anyway.
- 31:07Speaker 6: I mean, they're top five and most statistics, they're like
- 31:10Speaker 6: number two in war they number one innings. Forget whether
- 31:14Speaker 6: they're in the era, it's all top five. They're really good.
- 31:17Speaker 6: And so that's of all the issues with the team,
- 31:20Speaker 6: that's the least of my concerns, right now and you
- 31:22Speaker 6: have an extra guy, so that's even better.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You can never ever have enough pitching come postseason time. Finally, Luke,
- 31:29Speaker 1: most surprising team to you in the American League? Who
- 31:31Speaker 1: is it?
- 31:33Speaker 7: You know?
- 31:33Speaker 6: Maybe the Rays. I didn't really think the Rays were
- 31:35Speaker 6: going to do all that, and I know they've kind
- 31:39Speaker 6: of had a rough weekend with the Red Sox, but
- 31:42Speaker 6: I would say the Rays.
- 31:44Speaker 1: What about the Red Sox? Also? I mean, is this
- 31:46Speaker 1: for real or is this just a nice run that
- 31:49Speaker 1: fizzles out here in about another week or two weeks.
- 31:53Speaker 6: No, it's tough to tell that they You know, it's funny.
- 31:56Speaker 6: I remember Ken Rosenthal saying about a month ago that
- 32:00Speaker 6: the Red Frocks were done, and I thought, oh man,
- 32:02Speaker 6: he's probably gonna hate that.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It's like the sports cover athlete says it.
- 32:08Speaker 6: Well, it's like when you when you make an absolute
- 32:11Speaker 6: statement as a high profile person, that tends to come
- 32:14Speaker 6: back and haunt you. So uh. You know, when the
- 32:19Speaker 6: Mayors played them before this season, I thought they're a
- 32:22Speaker 6: pretty decent team. They're pitching seemed to be pretty good,
- 32:24Speaker 6: and you know, I always believe that pitching is what
- 32:27Speaker 6: carries the day, and that's why I continue to believe
- 32:30Speaker 6: in the Mariners. But the Red Flaxes certainly aren't surprised
- 32:32Speaker 6: now right now the number of games they've won in
- 32:34Speaker 6: a row. And and like I say, they come out
- 32:37Speaker 6: of the break and they sweep a division rival. That's huge.
- 32:40Speaker 6: And the Yankees are sort of flopping a twitch a
- 32:43Speaker 6: little bit with that, Aaron Judge, and they looked more.
- 32:47Speaker 6: You know, two months ago, I thought the Yankees are
- 32:49Speaker 6: gonna be in the ALCS, and now I'm not certain
- 32:52Speaker 6: whether the stature is for the postseason.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, to borrow the line from the famous movie back
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the nineties with the Yankees, it feels like right
- 33:01Speaker 1: now like a box of chot but you never know
- 33:03Speaker 1: what you're going to get. But Tampa Bay is going
- 33:06Speaker 1: to be in here August seventh for a three game series,
- 33:08Speaker 1: Mariners at the Red Sox August thirty. First, we'll see
- 33:11Speaker 1: where they're at by that point here. But Luke, enough
- 33:15Speaker 1: with you. You got more driving here to do. Really
- 33:17Speaker 1: appreciate you, my man, Thank you, and tell the folks
- 33:19Speaker 1: once again where they can find your work.
- 33:22Speaker 6: Well, just it's Mariners. If you want to just google
- 33:25Speaker 6: my name. Luke Arkins A R K I N. S.
- 33:29Speaker 6: You'll you'll find pretty quickly it'll show a link. It's
- 33:32Speaker 6: a free newsletter, so to sign up for it. And
- 33:36Speaker 6: also you can find me on Twitter at Luke Underscore
- 33:40Speaker 6: Arkins a r K I and S and thanks check
- 33:43Speaker 6: me out. I try to just throw out numbers and
- 33:45Speaker 6: stuff and I try to go by facts and people
- 33:49Speaker 6: seem to like it.
- 33:50Speaker 1: We are smarter because of you.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He's a great following.
- 33:54Speaker 1: We are smarter because of you each and every day. Hey, look,
- 33:57Speaker 1: appreciate this man. We'll talk to you soon. Once again.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Thank you, all right, Luke Arkins joining us once again.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Coming up in a bit. Was this last game the
- 34:08Speaker 1: cal Rawley moment, the turning point of the Mariners? Are
- 34:11Speaker 1: they finally getting mad enough? We'll talk about that next
- 34:15Speaker 1: right here in ninety three to three kJ arafin all
- 34:29Speaker 1: aboard the Mariners train. Is that where you're at here
- 34:31Speaker 1: at this point? Big thanks once again to Luke Arkins,
- 34:35Speaker 1: Mariners newsletter CONSIGLIERI once again, just a treasure trove of numbers, analytics, reason, facts,
- 34:44Speaker 1: you name it, putting it all together once again. Joining
- 34:46Speaker 1: us earlier this morning Mike with Jessaman and for Greg Bell.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Greg is back tomorrow from vacation. We'll need the family time.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Also in the rearview mirror for him seeing folks out
- 34:55Speaker 1: here from the East coast. Greg has got a lot
- 34:59Speaker 1: to dive into here, not just with the Seahawks, but
- 35:01Speaker 1: also difference of where the Mariners are at now versus
- 35:04Speaker 1: when he left before the All Star break and things
- 35:08Speaker 1: were low when they hit that Miami and that Tampa
- 35:11Speaker 1: Bay trip and got even lower anna vacation. I think,
- 35:15Speaker 1: I think, I think Gray can stay out there for
- 35:17Speaker 1: as long as he wants. Right, we can have you
- 35:21Speaker 1: in a little bit.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's main job.
- 35:24Speaker 3: It's definitely Seahawks, So I believe he's gonna have to
- 35:27Speaker 3: come back. However, in the superstitious sport of bass, would
- 35:32Speaker 3: you like to look into those.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Little might have something to say about that.
- 35:35Speaker 2: I mean, I was there yesterday and they won.
- 35:38Speaker 1: So which means you're back out there again today, which means.
- 35:40Speaker 2: I'm definitely going back out and I'm gonna go to
- 35:45Speaker 2: the game.
- 35:46Speaker 3: I did pre game for our station yesterday, and I'm
- 35:50Speaker 3: actually gonna go to the game tonight too.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yes, I've also I've also got plans here for tonight.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I did not I was at I was at the
- 35:55Speaker 1: ballpark for Friday's game, did not stick around for the
- 35:58Speaker 1: game that night because of some other ogations I had
- 36:00Speaker 1: going on, but enough to kind of cover the whole
- 36:03Speaker 1: basics work wise. But I am bringing family back out
- 36:06Speaker 1: to night, so hopefully that that can be a bit
- 36:07Speaker 1: of a good luck charm to kind of kick in.
- 36:10Speaker 1: That's the hope here. But I go back to just
- 36:15Speaker 1: last night where the Mariners again were just hanging on
- 36:18Speaker 1: and it appeared to be for dear life up one nothing.
- 36:21Speaker 1: You had George Kirby absolutely shoving. But once again, could
- 36:26Speaker 1: you find signs of life for an offense that just
- 36:31Speaker 1: doesn't have to rely on the home run ball? That's them?
- 36:36Speaker 1: Yet they finally found an opening once that seventh inning came.
- 36:41Speaker 1: They got runners on base. Terry Francona alucks to roll
- 36:45Speaker 1: the dice and bring up cal Rawley that rather than
- 36:50Speaker 1: prefer have Caleb Ferguson, who mouthed off at an umpire
- 36:54Speaker 1: and it was not pretty. If you want to know
- 36:57Speaker 1: what he said, go on the X machine. There are
- 37:00Speaker 1: plenty of interpretations of what he said, and there is
- 37:03Speaker 1: some things that we cannot say on the air that
- 37:06Speaker 1: he said to that umpire. Was Carmel waiting for him,
- 37:10Speaker 1: maybe right around the corner. Well, Terry Francona said, forget
- 37:13Speaker 1: the lefty on lefty. I respect dom can Zone more
- 37:19Speaker 1: than cal Rawley, and you can bet coming up bases
- 37:22Speaker 1: loaded the preference to turn cal Rawley around lefty versus
- 37:26Speaker 1: righty to face him. It brings back the old Michael
- 37:31Speaker 1: Jordan meme. I felt disrespected and cal Rawley disrespected of
- 37:37Speaker 1: baseball like we haven't seen in months. Bench goes crazy,
- 37:43Speaker 1: which then brings the question back do the Mariners have
- 37:46Speaker 1: enough fire? Have they had enough fire? These were valid
- 37:51Speaker 1: questions we were asking for a few days in a
- 37:55Speaker 1: row about this baseball team and the state of affairs,
- 37:59Speaker 1: which maybe look bleak heading into inning six last Saturday
- 38:05Speaker 1: against the Giants, Cole Young gave them a little bit
- 38:08Speaker 1: of hope and that was enough to drag him right
- 38:10Speaker 1: back into the game. But now it brings the question
- 38:13Speaker 1: of is the energy back? Because I guarantee you, if
- 38:18Speaker 1: you're feeling comfortable, any team will say this. When you're
- 38:21Speaker 1: feeling comfortable, that is where you are in your biggest
- 38:25Speaker 1: position of peril, because with comfort comes complacency, and then
- 38:32Speaker 1: it all falls apart after that. I remember Friday at
- 38:37Speaker 1: work on the Mariner's side, going through the clubhouse, going
- 38:41Speaker 1: through the tunnel on the way to the dugout. There
- 38:44Speaker 1: was one note I saw that was on the wall
- 38:46Speaker 1: walking out there, and it had to do with be
- 38:49Speaker 1: comfortable with being uncomfortable. Let's just say the message is
- 38:54Speaker 1: already getting through.
- 38:56Speaker 2: That's something my dad says all the time.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. It oftentimes brings out the
- 39:03Speaker 1: best in you. So we go to cal Rawley's comments
- 39:07Speaker 1: last night about the energy in the dugout and from
- 39:12Speaker 1: that big moment, and you're just cal Rawley meaning with
- 39:14Speaker 1: the media, Yeah, I mean it.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Means a lot.
- 39:16Speaker 7: They're you know, I feel like I feel like the
- 39:20Speaker 7: group's goods fired now. You know, I feel like the
- 39:24Speaker 7: last three games, the energy has definitely been up, you know, hustling, uh,
- 39:30Speaker 7: doing the little things. I saw tonight a couple of
- 39:33Speaker 7: plays where you know, and even the other day, you know, uh,
- 39:36Speaker 7: guys fumble the ball, running hard down the line, playing
- 39:39Speaker 7: with energy in the field, and I, uh, you know,
- 39:42Speaker 7: I know that's what we're capable of, and you know,
- 39:44Speaker 7: I think the game will will reward you when you're
- 39:48Speaker 7: playing the right way. And uh, you know, like I said,
- 39:52Speaker 7: you know they've been very very good, very positive and
- 39:55Speaker 7: us energy in the dugout and and you can feel it,
- 39:58Speaker 7: uh you know, really good about you know where we're heading.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Where does that come from?
- 40:05Speaker 4: You know, I think.
- 40:08Speaker 7: You know, it's been a hard year, uh, you know
- 40:11Speaker 7: overall with frustrating and I think sometimes we can you know,
- 40:15Speaker 7: start to uh, you know, feel sorry for yourself or
- 40:18Speaker 7: you know, get a little frustrated. But but understanding that,
- 40:22Speaker 7: you know, there's still a lot of season left and
- 40:24Speaker 7: you know we're we're still on the hunt of it,
- 40:25Speaker 7: and and uh, we still have a job to do.
- 40:27Speaker 7: And I think you know, understanding that and and guys
- 40:31Speaker 7: kind of taking on that challenge of Okay, we're gonna
- 40:34Speaker 7: show up every day and you know, we don't really
- 40:36Speaker 7: care about you know, ourselves or the individual performance, where
- 40:40Speaker 7: we're trying to play for each other, play for the team.
- 40:42Speaker 7: And and I think that's something that we kind of
- 40:46Speaker 7: kind of you know, went over and talked and and
- 40:49Speaker 7: you know, trying to make that a play emphasis of
- 40:52Speaker 7: you know, obviously team first, playing hard and playing the
- 40:54Speaker 7: game the right way, and and you know, the rest
- 40:56Speaker 7: will fall into place, you know, based on you know
- 41:00Speaker 7: who we have in this bucker.
- 41:02Speaker 1: That was cal Rawly with the media, leading me to
- 41:04Speaker 1: wonder here about this, is it fair to question are
- 41:08Speaker 1: they back fully because they're facing the Giants and facing
- 41:12Speaker 1: the Reds. The answer is yes, without question. They should
- 41:16Speaker 1: be punishing these teams regardless of lineup because it only
- 41:20Speaker 1: gets tougher from here on out. But again, do I
- 41:23Speaker 1: have to remind you the Rangers, Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Yankees
- 41:28Speaker 1: at the Astros, at Milwaukee Cubs, Phillies, Blue Jays, Red Sox,
- 41:34Speaker 1: A's Rangers, Athletics. Again, then you hit mid September. But
- 41:39Speaker 1: also at this point is a cliche to wonder could
- 41:43Speaker 1: one game be a turnaround? Maybe, but it gets the
- 41:47Speaker 1: deeper question, was this team getting mad enough? Are they
- 41:53Speaker 1: now getting mad enough? You tell me? Four nine four
- 41:56Speaker 1: five one Tacoma doage text line top backs are open
- 41:59Speaker 1: as well?
- 42:00Speaker 6: Well?
- 42:00Speaker 1: Are the Mariners showing signs of life where they're getting
- 42:04Speaker 1: mad enough because they saw their leader being disrespected from
- 42:10Speaker 1: Terry Francona the preference to pitch to him and the
- 42:13Speaker 1: first pitch that cal Rawley sees was about demolished halfway
- 42:18Speaker 1: to Edmund's and we saw how the dugout reacted. It's
- 42:23Speaker 1: the kind of energy that you need to sustain yourself.
- 42:27Speaker 1: That's where I see a promising sign of life.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I do too.
- 42:31Speaker 3: And like they say, and we've heard it from several players,
- 42:34Speaker 3: hitting is contagious and as soon as you see something
- 42:37Speaker 3: like that, I'm sorry. There is a lot of emotion
- 42:39Speaker 3: that goes into a game that is one hundred and
- 42:42Speaker 3: sixty two games a season, and you have to have that.
- 42:46Speaker 3: There is going to be the personal side that comes
- 42:49Speaker 3: into it, and we saw a really good side of
- 42:51Speaker 3: that last week.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Which even I mean, I don't have much time here
- 42:53Speaker 1: for this, but it also brings the old Dan Wilson
- 42:55Speaker 1: equation up. And we heard Logan Gilbert bring this up,
- 42:58Speaker 1: you know, with Softy Show yesterday. I mean one hundred percent,
- 43:02Speaker 1: Logan Gilbert said, this entire clubhouse is right behind Dan Wilson.
- 43:08Speaker 1: That tracks also with what Aaron Goldsmith told us here
- 43:12Speaker 1: on this show last week. He is a connector. He
- 43:16Speaker 1: gets guys ready, he gets guys feeling confident to play
- 43:22Speaker 1: the best that they can play. Is a fair maybe
- 43:24Speaker 1: to say that the jury is still out on late
- 43:27Speaker 1: game decision making when the game is won nothing, two
- 43:29Speaker 1: to one, three to two. Absolutely, this is where he
- 43:33Speaker 1: has a growth area. But from what we've heard, not
- 43:37Speaker 1: just from the booth but also from a picture from
- 43:40Speaker 1: the inside, there is still one hundred percent, without question,
- 43:47Speaker 1: the backing of a manager who can get players ready
- 43:51Speaker 1: to play at their best. It was maybe a matter
- 43:53Speaker 1: of time for them to find that moment within themselves.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Like we hear in baseball, like we hear the NHL
- 44:01Speaker 1: other pro sports, you can lead the horse to water,
- 44:05Speaker 1: you can't force it to drink. The Mariners are finally drinking,
- 44:10Speaker 1: and they're drinking the winning water. Once again. That was
- 44:13Speaker 1: so important I thought from last night in that one
- 44:16Speaker 1: moment that took a close game put it in to blowout,
- 44:20Speaker 1: where a leader basically opened up and said, you want
- 44:23Speaker 1: to want to get to me, do not disrespect me.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Coming up after this, we turn our page here to
- 44:29Speaker 1: the Seahawks. So close have you been waiting long enough?
- 44:34Speaker 1: So close to training camp? As far as the underlying matters,
- 44:38Speaker 1: is there a calmer concern with those like Zach Sherbinay
- 44:42Speaker 1: Nicki and Warri Maybe even a Sam Donald repeat season,
- 44:45Speaker 1: and maybe even the perception of how the Seahawks are
- 44:49Speaker 1: respected across the football world. Guess who's gonna talk with
- 44:53Speaker 1: us about this? The one, the only QB one Hugh
- 44:57Speaker 1: Millan joining us next right here in ninety three three
- 44:58Speaker 1: kg erafin. Oh, you can tell we're about a few
- 45:22Speaker 1: days away from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. And finally
- 45:26Speaker 1: the Seahawks being right back because everyone's getting back from
- 45:29Speaker 1: vacation and a certain QB one is frothing at the
- 45:34Speaker 1: mouth once again to get going and talk everything about
- 45:37Speaker 1: this football team that once again is a cream of
- 45:39Speaker 1: the crop in the National Football League. Mike Benton with
- 45:43Speaker 1: Jessamine in for Greg Bell for one more day. Greg
- 45:46Speaker 1: is on vacation back tomorrow, but without further ado, our
- 45:50Speaker 1: beloved one and only QB one Humillon joining us right
- 45:53Speaker 1: now on the Beacon Plumbing hotline. Huet, it's been too long,
- 45:57Speaker 1: going to get you back up into town here, my man,
- 45:58Speaker 1: how are you doing to be with you?
- 46:00Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 46:00Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the calm before the storm, as they say,
- 46:04Speaker 5: right so a lot of eyes and focus on the Seahawks.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Gonna be fun to have the HBO crew out there,
- 46:12Speaker 5: and you know, there's nothing like being the defending champ,
- 46:15Speaker 5: so good on them.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Hard knocks is coming, and the whole parade, the whole
- 46:20Speaker 1: cavalry of cameras, phones, microphones, you name it, it is
- 46:23Speaker 1: coming here because this football team has arrived once again,
- 46:27Speaker 1: but a different identity versus roughly about ten to eleven
- 46:30Speaker 1: years ago. But we are now officially in the Mike
- 46:33Speaker 1: McDonald we did not care era and we're going to
- 46:37Speaker 1: get to a few things. I think that kind of
- 46:39Speaker 1: define maybe are you calm about this or are you
- 46:43Speaker 1: concerned about this? Because it seems like everything and a
- 46:46Speaker 1: lot of it is going fine with I think depending
- 46:49Speaker 1: upon where you look at, you know, coaching with the
- 46:52Speaker 1: new offensive coordinator, a QB that has proven a lot,
- 46:56Speaker 1: and where they can fill the gaps here with the
- 46:58Speaker 1: absence of Kenneth walk Sure, but you have arguably the
- 47:01Speaker 1: best receiver now in the game and a defense that
- 47:04Speaker 1: once again has its own identity, kind of in similar
- 47:08Speaker 1: fashion to about roughly ten years ago. But Hugh, I'll
- 47:11Speaker 1: begin with concern or calm for you. First off, Zach
- 47:15Speaker 1: Charbonay's health. You have the ACL injury and the evaluation
- 47:19Speaker 1: coming up in July. Here for the timeline, I mean,
- 47:22Speaker 1: how concerned are you or how calm are you with
- 47:25Speaker 1: his potential timeline to be back and make an impact.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Well, I think that he's going to be back around
- 47:31Speaker 5: mid season. I would say, on a relative scale, I'm
- 47:34Speaker 5: calm about that, in part because as you frame the question,
- 47:39Speaker 5: I think there's an implied Maybe it's not implied, but
- 47:42Speaker 5: I think for many I feel like, Okay, Zach Sharbonnay,
- 47:46Speaker 5: is you know, some kind of central cog to the wheel.
- 47:51Speaker 5: I don't want to say he's unimportant, but you know,
- 47:55Speaker 5: I evaluated him as a guy that was maybe an
- 47:59Speaker 5: upper level backup type player. I think he's a fringe
- 48:02Speaker 5: starter for anybody. And if you're a Super Bowl champion,
- 48:06Speaker 5: you know I'm not gonna fret about a fringe starter. Now,
- 48:09Speaker 5: maybe I'm wrong. If the evidence pours in and and
- 48:13Speaker 5: and I see something something from him on a consistent
- 48:16Speaker 5: basis that I've only seen on very very very isolated cases,
- 48:19Speaker 5: then then I'll have a different take on him. But
- 48:22Speaker 5: I I I think that the concern for me is more.
- 48:27Speaker 5: You know Kenneth Walker, and uh, now you draft a
- 48:31Speaker 5: first round pick to replace him, and uh, you can
- 48:36Speaker 5: assume that Jade and Price is going to be a
- 48:40Speaker 5: guy that can step up, and until we see it,
- 48:42Speaker 5: I'm concerned about losing Kenneth Walker. I'm not concerned about
- 48:48Speaker 5: Zach Charbonnet in any significant sense because I just don't
- 48:53Speaker 5: think that that that the sea arks are going to
- 48:56Speaker 5: be relying heavily on him.
- 48:57Speaker 1: What's the danger of rushing him back? Well, I would
- 49:02Speaker 1: say twofold.
- 49:03Speaker 5: You know, he can exacerbate it and you know, find
- 49:06Speaker 5: himself back on him, you know, a month or six weeks,
- 49:08Speaker 5: you know, have to have another surgery, I guess would
- 49:11Speaker 5: be worst case scenario. But I think that maybe you know,
- 49:14Speaker 5: if he's come back three weeks too early and he
- 49:18Speaker 5: doesn't have the same confidence on the leg, you know,
- 49:21Speaker 5: if he's wearing a leg brace. I've always kind of
- 49:23Speaker 5: been prejudice against running backs who wear leg braces because saying,
- 49:28Speaker 5: if you got a knee brace on one knee, you're
- 49:31Speaker 5: just telling me that you don't have confidence either mentally
- 49:34Speaker 5: or structurally, that you're not one hundred percent. And I
- 49:39Speaker 5: just think that's one position you know that in cornerback
- 49:42Speaker 5: probably like like how can you play with a knee brace?
- 49:44Speaker 5: So I think that that would be the concern that
- 49:47Speaker 5: he comes back. I mean, I already think one hundred
- 49:49Speaker 5: percent of Zach Sarbonnet is a fringe starter slash quality backup.
- 49:54Speaker 1: And maybe I'm wrong on that.
- 49:56Speaker 5: But now if you say he's eighty ninety percent of
- 50:00Speaker 5: Zach Sharbonay, well you can you can infer what the
- 50:04Speaker 5: assessment would be from there.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I think you also opened the door here to the
- 50:07Speaker 1: conversation with the Jendarian Price, because you know, in all honesty,
- 50:11Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't get picked, perhaps if a Charbonay gets
- 50:14Speaker 1: hurt or be even Kenneth Walker leagues. But here we
- 50:17Speaker 1: are at this point, and I think given the fact
- 50:19Speaker 1: that you know there's a small sample size of him,
- 50:22Speaker 1: you know, trap behind Jeremiah Love and went to Arizona.
- 50:26Speaker 1: He's got Brian Flurry as his offensive coordinator, who's you know,
- 50:30Speaker 1: by all accounts great with running schemes. But Jadarian Price
- 50:35Speaker 1: as an immediate impact running back. Calmer concerned for you, Well,
- 50:41Speaker 1: I would say, I don't want to say, Calm.
- 50:44Speaker 5: I I've been on record many times of saying Kenneth
- 50:48Speaker 5: Walker is a special back, that he's significantly better than
- 50:53Speaker 5: Zach Sharbonay.
- 50:55Speaker 1: So we don't know.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Jenderien Price is a first round pick. As you said,
- 50:58Speaker 5: he played behind Jeremiah there was a great opportunity to
- 51:02Speaker 5: compare him. You know, his product production compared to Jeremiah Love,
- 51:08Speaker 5: and you know, he didn't have the the yards per
- 51:13Speaker 5: per carry or yards per after contact. There's a lot
- 51:17Speaker 5: of people who felt, if you want to be cynical,
- 51:19Speaker 5: that the Notre Dame offensive line was so good that
- 51:23Speaker 5: they really were tracking big holes for everybody now. And
- 51:26Speaker 5: and you know, for me, in assessing him, I thought
- 51:30Speaker 5: his vision was very good. I thought his lateral quickness
- 51:33Speaker 5: was exceptional. I would say that the physicality piece was
- 51:39Speaker 5: lacking in some respects. There's times where where I just
- 51:42Speaker 5: thought he went down to he didn't move the pile
- 51:45Speaker 5: that he he you know, safety comes up smacks him,
- 51:48Speaker 5: and bam, he just goes down and and so I
- 51:51Speaker 5: don't I'm not anticipating great physicality from him. But I
- 51:55Speaker 5: think there's a lot of other traits I've mentioned a
- 51:57Speaker 5: couple of them that I think make him worthy of
- 51:59Speaker 5: a first pick. And in my mind, I'm certainly I'll
- 52:02Speaker 5: paint myself this way. I am certainly hopeful, expectant that
- 52:07Speaker 5: he's going to be the best running back on the
- 52:09Speaker 5: football team. Yeah, because yeah, because if Zach Charbonnay, who's
- 52:16Speaker 5: coming off an injury, And I would even say this
- 52:18Speaker 5: if Zach Sharbonnay never had an injury last year, I
- 52:21Speaker 5: would hope the Genieran Price is better because I think
- 52:24Speaker 5: you need somebody better than Zach Sharbeney.
- 52:26Speaker 1: And I'll get to you, you know Price. Also, on
- 52:29Speaker 1: top of this, with where he played at Notre Dame,
- 52:31Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, Hugh, how often does does it
- 52:33Speaker 1: kind of bug you to you know, look through and
- 52:36Speaker 1: you know read listen to where a player came from
- 52:40Speaker 1: in the college game, and you know you have to
- 52:42Speaker 1: factor in, well, how good was his offensive line? But
- 52:45Speaker 1: you know, how often does that you know, I think,
- 52:48Speaker 1: in an unfair way subtract from the kind of talent
- 52:51Speaker 1: because oftentimes, yeah, you can be great, but you're not
- 52:54Speaker 1: going to be able to run through any holes if
- 52:55Speaker 1: you can't find any holes here in the entire first place.
- 52:58Speaker 5: Oh no, there's no question, Mike, that that is absolutely
- 53:01Speaker 5: Tell me who's the best running back on the planet
- 53:05Speaker 5: Bejon Robinson. Who's the best running back of this century?
- 53:09Speaker 5: You know, let's say you say, you know, uh Ladanian, Tomlinson,
- 53:14Speaker 5: Adrian Peters.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Like I got ms Methon for size back in the
- 53:18Speaker 1: old Cowboys era.
- 53:19Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, that's that's unfortunately that predates the century.
- 53:23Speaker 5: But yeah, pick your guy, you know, give me your guy,
- 53:29Speaker 5: and then and then let's put him in his prime
- 53:31Speaker 5: of his career, twenty six years old. There are there
- 53:35Speaker 5: are thousands of plays that if you handed that back
- 53:40Speaker 5: that we just described the ball, he's not getting a
- 53:43Speaker 5: single yard because it's just not blocked well enough. And uh, furthermore,
- 53:49Speaker 5: there are some games that the last guy on the
- 53:53Speaker 5: August roster, the guy that you know is going to
- 53:55Speaker 5: get cut, has no chance of making team. He could
- 53:58Speaker 5: rip off a twenty yarder because the line blocked it
- 54:02Speaker 5: so well, and you know, the wide receivers blocked you know,
- 54:06Speaker 5: came down and walled off the safety and next thing
- 54:10Speaker 5: you got an avenue and anybody who who even remotely
- 54:15Speaker 5: has ever carried a football is going to get fifteen
- 54:17Speaker 5: twenty yards there. So I think you have to watch
- 54:19Speaker 5: for a while to get a sense of Okay, can
- 54:22Speaker 5: he create space that's not there? Can he find holes?
- 54:27Speaker 5: Can he move a pocket?
- 54:28Speaker 3: You know?
- 54:28Speaker 1: Can can he make guys miss?
- 54:30Speaker 8: You know?
- 54:31Speaker 5: That takes extensive film study, to I think to determine,
- 54:38Speaker 5: you know, how you feel about a guy. Now, ultimately,
- 54:40Speaker 5: you know the law of large numbers. If you give
- 54:42Speaker 5: a guy enough carries through the through the course of
- 54:47Speaker 5: a season or or a career or what have at
- 54:49Speaker 5: some point you say, hey, the guys is the best.
- 54:52Speaker 5: Is the guy when we hand him the ball he
- 54:54Speaker 5: gets the most yards. There is some truth to that.
- 54:57Speaker 5: So I think it's a fine line when we evaluate
- 54:59Speaker 5: this guy. But I think it's very important given that
- 55:02Speaker 5: the Super Bowl MVP just walked out, and apparently the
- 55:06Speaker 5: Kansas City chiefs kind of agree with me because they
- 55:10Speaker 5: they you know, they threw fourteen plus million at Canine,
- 55:14Speaker 5: you know, thinking that that that's one of the pieces
- 55:16Speaker 5: that they really need to get back into the Super
- 55:19Speaker 5: Bowl phrase. So that anyway that we're talking about these
- 55:22Speaker 5: running backs that is overall I would I would say
- 55:26Speaker 5: it's a concern if we don't say the replacement of
- 55:29Speaker 5: Kenneth Walker, that is.
- 55:30Speaker 1: A concern for me personally. I want to get to safety.
- 55:33Speaker 1: NICKI min Warry here. I mean, of course was put
- 55:36Speaker 1: on the pup list, and you know a lot of
- 55:37Speaker 1: this maybe had to do with injuries here before training
- 55:40Speaker 1: camp I mean, it could be likely that it was
- 55:43Speaker 1: a plant procedure or something minor, maybe something lighter. Just
- 55:47Speaker 1: it all depends upon, you know, passing a physical I mean,
- 55:50Speaker 1: he seemed fine at you know, mini camp earlier, but
- 55:53Speaker 1: as of right now, NICKI min Warry Calmer concerned for
- 55:56Speaker 1: him where you at. I'm concerned because I don't know
- 56:00Speaker 1: the nature of it right. I don't like it.
- 56:04Speaker 5: I think that he is a brilliant young player. His versatility,
- 56:07Speaker 5: versatility is almost unmatched. He gives Mike mcdonnald on an
- 56:13Speaker 5: opportunity to play him as a sam linebacker. He can
- 56:17Speaker 5: play off the ball in the core of the defense,
- 56:21Speaker 5: he can walk out being apex defender of the slot
- 56:24Speaker 5: and as a quarterback. Normally you look at a big
- 56:28Speaker 5: guy like that and you say, well, okay, they're not
- 56:32Speaker 5: man to man against our personnel and our formation there.
- 56:36Speaker 5: Based on his alignment with the way he walked out there,
- 56:38Speaker 5: I know it's not man to man. And then all
- 56:40Speaker 5: of a sudden, he snapped the ball and it is
- 56:42Speaker 5: man to man because he's covering Justin Jefferson and he's
- 56:45Speaker 5: covering DeVante Adams. That's not hypothetical, that's actualities and by
- 56:49Speaker 5: the way, he got pass defense official pass defense against
- 56:54Speaker 5: those guys. And he had fifteen pass breakups, which was
- 56:58Speaker 5: the fifteenth most the league, and the fourteen who had
- 57:02Speaker 5: more were all cornerbacks. So he's a he's the number
- 57:06Speaker 5: one player in the NFL and not number one rookie,
- 57:08Speaker 5: the number one player in the NFL for pass breakups
- 57:13Speaker 5: last year who was not a cornerback. So you know
- 57:15Speaker 5: that versatility. You know, he was number two in the
- 57:19Speaker 5: NFL in his pass pressure rate at twenty nine percent
- 57:24Speaker 5: of the time he blitzed. He he produced a pressure
- 57:27Speaker 5: that would there's only one guy in the league was
- 57:29Speaker 5: better than him. Now it happened to be Bobby Wagner
- 57:30Speaker 5: of all people. And and and defensive linemen don't tend
- 57:34Speaker 5: to have again, as we understand percentages, they have a
- 57:36Speaker 5: lot more snaps. But of his sixty two rushes he
- 57:42Speaker 5: he had, he had what was it, eighteen pressures and
- 57:45Speaker 5: that rate is the second highest. So there you figure
- 57:49Speaker 5: you want to get him involved with rushing the pass
- 57:52Speaker 5: or more. There's an explosiveness to him, his ability to cover,
- 57:56Speaker 5: you know, bubble throw, a bubble scream, his long arms,
- 57:58Speaker 5: the way he just he just throws wide receivers out
- 58:01Speaker 5: of the way and stones those bubble screens. There's just
- 58:04Speaker 5: so much to his game that you tell me right
- 58:07Speaker 5: now that he's on the pupp list and nobody's reporting
- 58:12Speaker 5: what the hell the injury is? Yeah, hell, yes, I'm concerned.
- 58:17Speaker 5: Yeah now it You know, somebody could be thinking, calm down, dude, it's.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Just to this.
- 58:22Speaker 5: It's just to that he had an ingrown hair nail
- 58:24Speaker 5: that he had to get extracted from his big toe. Like,
- 58:28Speaker 5: there's a lot of reasons where I will immediately get
- 58:31Speaker 5: to calm but you asked me right this moment. Today
- 58:34Speaker 5: he unexpectedly shows up on the on the pup list. Yeah,
- 58:38Speaker 5: I'm concerned. I'm gonna get to Sam Darneld here. And
- 58:41Speaker 5: this is different because it's not an injury thing at all.
- 58:43Speaker 1: But I mean, he's gone through the whole odyssey of
- 58:47Speaker 1: his NFL career as maybe a quarterback where you wanted more,
- 58:53Speaker 1: you were asking for more, but he never gave you more,
- 58:57Speaker 1: really until the last one to two years, and all
- 59:00Speaker 1: of a sudden, now he owns a ring. And there
- 59:03Speaker 1: were comparisons fair or unfair to Trent Dilfer say about
- 59:07Speaker 1: you know, twenty five years ago. But I mean, changing
- 59:10Speaker 1: a narrative is hard to impossible, not just in the NFL,
- 59:14Speaker 1: but really in pro sports all around. That's just kind
- 59:16Speaker 1: of the role that we live in here. But yet
- 59:18Speaker 1: thirty one wins last two seasons throwing a js at
- 59:22Speaker 1: and he's got that target. He made Aj Barner better.
- 59:25Speaker 1: But top ten quarterback may be still an issue of
- 59:29Speaker 1: debate on a team that won the Super Bowl. So
- 59:32Speaker 1: for a Sam Donald repeat season, Hueie calmer concern.
- 59:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm relatively calm, just because I want to. I'm
- 59:42Speaker 5: a believer. You kind of buckled me there, Mike when
- 59:47Speaker 5: you brought up the the Trent Dilford. Now, I know
- 59:51Speaker 5: that you were not saying your thoughts with Trent Diffol.
- 59:54Speaker 5: You're saying that that you know, in certain circles maybe
- 59:57Speaker 5: that there was a comparison, So you're just citing others.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: So I get that, but but I I think that's
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: one of the most absurd notions. And and I remember,
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: now I don't have all the spreadsheet in front of me,
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: but at the end of last year, I I endeavored
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: to uh to just kind of compare, And I remember,
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: you know, passing first downs per game I remember looking
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: at and and the and the yardage and you know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: yards per pass and what have you, and uh, uh, there,
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: there couldn't be a more absurd comparison than what Trent
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: Dilfer was for the two thousand Ravens. They had that
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: that great defense, they had Jamal Lewis over two thousand
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: yards rushing. Trent Dilf for literally was just a placeholder.
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: And I can prove that statistically I don't have in
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: front of me. But but if you challenge me, I'll
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: knock your socks off with with with an argument on it.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: We don't do that on this show. We do not
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: challenge you.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: And I'm I'm saying, there's a big smile on my face.
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: We're all good, Mike. You're you're doing your asking me
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: a question, because it is true that from time to
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: time people said, oh, is he just you know, he's
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: just a beneficiary like trying to do for I'm You're
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: what you just said is not the first time I
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: heard it, So so you're you're you're fair to ask
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: me that question. What I'm saying it was absurd, then
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: it's absurd now. Uh And and you know, for for example,
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: that if there's a stat we you know, yards per
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: passe attempt. Okay, this has been around for a year. Okay,
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: very simple. You just take the pass attempts yards a
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: simple division. Right, then they had, well, let's go net
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: yards per past attempt and because we want to include
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: the sacks, because that's important. Okay, So then we got
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: net yards per past attempt. Well from there they said, whoa,
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: that was a that was a good uh step. Let's
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: let's go yards per drop back. Now, what is the
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: yards per drop back? Yards per dropback? Is is a
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: pass attempt a sack or when the official score keyper
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: said it was a scramble, that it was a called
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: pass play and the quarterback shows to scramble. So if
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: if Lamar Jackson on you know, third and seven drops
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: back sees a hole, it's man coverage. He he pops
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: for eleven yards, gets the first down, he's gonna get that.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: He's gonna get those eleven yards, just like it on
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: eleven yard completion for the sake of the offense. Right,
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: So when then we say, well, yards yards per dropbacks
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: even better than that yards per attemp, which was better
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: than yards per ten yards per attempt, well as it
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: turns out yards per dropback has an exceedingly high correlation
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: to winning. It's it's like seven oh two. I believe
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: it's it's slightly over seven hundred. Like just think of
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: like a a on base percentage, you know that lives
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: between zero and one thousand, and you stat guys and
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: math guys are saying, well, it's technically between zero and one,
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: because when a when a hitter hits two eighty five,
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: he's he's literally he's really.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Hitting point two eighty five out of one.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: So those those nuances, notwithstanding getting back, you got a
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: seven hundred plus correlation of winning on yards per dropback.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Who was number one in the NFL last year in
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: yards per dropback? Oh, Sam Darnold.
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: You think Trent Dilfer was number one, But Trent Differ
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: was like twenty eighth in yards per yards per dropback,
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: So there is no comparison. The guy is delivering, he's
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: throwing the ball down the field, he's making the plays.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: And oh, by the way, he had look he had
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: a lousy super Bowl. I thought he had a slightly
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: below average super Bowl when I watched it on TV
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: with my friends and the party and then did a
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: postgame show with Dick Vane. Then I watched the tape
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: the next morning and I was like, oh, wow, he
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: really had a bad Super Bowl, like he missed a
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: lot of stuff like whoa, whoa. But it was two
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: weeks before that where he earned his ring because when
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: in the NFC Championship game, when he had to go
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: toe to toe with Matthew Stafford. In the history of
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: the NFL, there's close to thirteen hundred playoff games. He
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: ha was slinging darts in that game too, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: And in those games, there's only been sixteen quarterbacks who
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: have had three hundred and thirty yards and more passing
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: three or more touchdown passes in a playoff game and
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: no interceptions.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Got it.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: That's the benchmark, right, So so thirteen hundred plus playoff games,
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: only sixteen games like that. Guess what, There's only one
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: playoff game in all of the history of the NFL,
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: one that had both quarterbacks hit that milestone three point
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: thirty three touchdowns, no interception. Only one playoff game. It
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: was the NFC Championship game in Luomenfield. It was Matthew
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: Stafford was one of the quarterbacks and Sam Donald was
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: the other, and Sam Donald had to match that because
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: Mike McDonald it was like this kryptonite, like Matthew Stafford
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: was Mike McDonald's kryptonite. And they just say they looked
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: around and by the way, they didn't run rush for
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: a damn. They were two point nine yards per ten
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: in that game, so they weren't running, they weren't defending.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: The whole team looked and said, Sam, dude, you got
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: to carry us. And you know what, Sam said, I
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: got you, and he freaking did it. And uh he
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: put that team on his back and he took him
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: right down to uh uh to Santa Clara in that
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: Super Bowl and and yeah, uh you know he he
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: he kind of had a you know it just kind
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: of farted his way through that Super Bowl and and
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: and that that will never go down as a Picasso performance,
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: but what he did to get there earned him all
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: of the accolades.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: In my opinion. They sometimes, as they say, a Picasso
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: painting won't do it for work of ours. Sometimes it
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: is mere graffiti. Beget the sea took care of that
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: as far as we're all concerned.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Musical fruits, musical fruit. He really, really, really really appreciate you,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: my man, and looking forward to more here at the
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: beginning this next week. Guys, all right, awesome rock and roll.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Thanks Mike's one and only QB one Hugh Miller joining
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: us talkbacks text after.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: This, Hey jess Man, Hey Mike, thanks for all your work.
- 1:06:26Speaker 9: As far as the Seahawks go, I think they've just
- 1:06:29Speaker 9: changed the landscape of the NFL. I don't know why,
- 1:06:33Speaker 9: but I'm not too worried because I think their philosophy
- 1:06:37Speaker 9: is just so dangerous and so novel that other teams
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: are going to be scrambling to catch up. I think
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: the Rams are in a desperation moment trying to make
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: sure they keep up. So I'm encouraged.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Mister Bit and miss McIntyre.
- 1:06:52Speaker 10: Chip here bold prediction on July. Whatever it is, it's
- 1:06:54Speaker 10: after the fourth doing this while I am technically sober
- 1:06:57Speaker 10: so I can maintain credit. Seahawks want a Barnburn nervous
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: super Bowl. They're down fourteen in the fourth quarter, comeback
- 1:07:03Speaker 10: epic win last year was kind of boring. I can
- 1:07:05Speaker 10: admit that this one one for the Ages. Gohawks screw
- 1:07:09Speaker 10: the Rams still should have handed it to Marshawn.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: That's great.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Okay, there was a lot compacted into a little.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: That's a lot to break down for twenty seven seconds.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: But when he was talking about the Super Bowl, I
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: don't want people to think that this person is uneducated.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: He was clearly referring to the NFC Championship game against
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: the Rams, because the Super Bowl was not an epic comeback.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: They had control of that entire game, the entire time,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: and they did the same against Denver with their first one.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: So I think he's referring to the game against the Rim.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: You find a funny hear that and all of a
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: sudden we're talking about the Rams more than the forty
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: nine ers.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: Oh, it's so cyclical within this conference. I mean remember
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: when he had mister kangle hat with Arizona Like it is.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: The NFC West is cyclical and we got a new
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: sheriff in town. Guys, shut up.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: I go back long enough now to remember that the
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: that the Seahawks weren't even competing with like the Rams
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: and Niners. It was all about the Broncos and everybody
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: else are with the with the entire AFC West. Yeah,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: the Cortez Kennedy era.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, a phenomenal Kingdome phenomenal era. I did not
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: get to experience the Kingdom though I was not here yet.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Oh looky here our old buddy Keith checked in from
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: the two five three, already four nine to komodage text
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: line much respect here, what's your secret peds sleep schedule?
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I respect, my man? Oh A deal with what? That's
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: how you pronounced it. I'll give it. I'll give you.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: He has like a thousand.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: The NHL version is Chatan. I'm a man of faith.
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: There.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I don't go there, but there you go. I'll give
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: you one hen for you, for you YouTubers, you see this.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Once upon a time, this top two bottom was filled
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: with coffee.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: I believe you.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: It's gone now.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I'm surprised it isn't.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Can you tell that I'm a night person. Yeah, it's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: eleven thirty. It's still too early for me.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: It's the nature of your job.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: I mean it just makes sense, hey, I mean by
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: game fifty, game fifty five, game sixty of a eighty
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: four well, what was eighty two to eighty four NHL season?
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: For the schedule, Even at about roughly ten o'clock ten fifteen,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: we're rolling post game. I'm still pound of the coffee. Yeah,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: could do better, maybe, yes, I think, but yeah, I
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: had I had Spike, YEP.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: I had some issues with coffee because I was working
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: a morning show at one point while also doing Cougar
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: games on the weekends, and my whole schedule, I only had,
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: you know, like twenty four hours to flip it back,
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: and I was just drinking so much coffee that I
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: couldn't go to sleep after a game and I was
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: having like panic dreams that I was going to miss
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: my flight to get back from my show.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: That's just you know what.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I heard a great story from from your buddy Dan Patrick. Yeah,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: when he was doing Sports Center back in the day,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and I'm talking like, you know the quote unquote Golden
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: era with him, Olderman like all those guys. So they
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: worked late and they're not on the air until about
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: eleven o'clock midnight maybe roughly.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it was before they expanded.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they're pounding die cokes, Like Dan Patrick is pounding
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: diet cokes back in the newsroom just to stay alert.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: But by the time that he gets home, it's like
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: three four in the morning, right, and he can't fall asleep.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: So it's like, where's like, where's the Bruski all of
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: a sudden, and it's a whole cyclical thing.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: It absolutely is, And it's very odd when you're in
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: that cycle, when like the sun is coming up, when
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: you're leaving your job.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: This is not what our circadian rhythm is supposed to.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Did you ever try the energy drink thing?
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: You know what.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Mike drinks the my husband, but he laid back on that.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: I'm not that big into it.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Try I tried it back in my twenties, and then
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: when I started to kind of feel things, I didn't
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: feel as like, Okay, this can't be good. Oh I
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: got this can't be good. Put it away.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: No, it's it's it's really not. I like to do
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: the natural energy.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: You know. If I really feel I feel like I
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: need to pick me up, I'll, you know, have tea
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: with some honey, even though that's supposed to be relaxing.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: But honey is natural sugar. But cold ice, cold water
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: is literally the best thing you can do. Yeah, really, yeah,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: it is the best thing you can do.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Put a glass under night stand, first thing you do
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: when you wake up. Pound that thing.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Yep. You know, you wash a lot of stuff out
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: and It really does help. And in the middle of
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: the day, if you're feeling that like slump, it helps me.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: At least this is a correction coming in. It was
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: a I'm sorry correction on the prediction from our texter.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: I can replay it.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: But it looks like the correction was.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: It looks like he was pre addicting this year's Super Bowl,
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: not discussing, not implying that the NFC Championship game was
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: a super Bowl here or here.
- 1:12:08Speaker 10: Let's listen, mister Bent and miss McIntyre chip here bol
- 1:12:11Speaker 10: prediction on July. Whatever it is is after the fourth
- 1:12:13Speaker 10: doing this while I am technically sober, so I can
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: maintain credit. Seahawks went a barn burner of a super Bowl.
- 1:12:18Speaker 10: They're down fourteen in the fourth quarter, comeback epic win
- 1:12:22Speaker 10: last year was kind of boring. I can admit that
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: this one one for the Ages. Gohawks screw the Rams.
- 1:12:27Speaker 10: Still should have handed it to Marshawn.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: That's correct, Thank you, text line.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: You win it. You went in La Thisten nothing better
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: because you did in Santa Clara last year.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: At least he just bounced back a couple times on that.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: You're right, they used to do a Super Bowl NFC West.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Tour serious and guess where and guess where it's going next.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Then it's got to be here. Yeah, we got it's
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: been to Arizona.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it's just like a given.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Let's just forget about in the in the Arizona, I'm
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: waving the wand men in black style two five three Mike, Sorry,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: but the Mariners are drinking because they're playing scrub teams
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: to be drinking the winning water that from the two
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: five three, Okay, listen, I said this earlier.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: They should win.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I said this before. They have been punishing the Giants
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: so far, they punish the Reds. There's two more games
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: to go. They're doing what we expected them to do.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: This at least gives us an indication they won the
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Giant Series. If they win tonight, they win the Red Series.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: But it gives us the indication that they are serious
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: about this playoff race. And is that not a lot
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: different from where we were thinking, feeling and wondering literally
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: just about roughly four days ago, because this whole thing
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: hit rock bottom, not just out for Friday, but say
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: by the end of the fifth inning on Saturday, where
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: then Cole Young if not for that home run, they're
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: doa They lose a series to one of the worst
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: teams in baseball who was led by right right now,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: by a manager who has no experience except for the
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: college level, then what do you expect going into the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Red Series? If this works. If this doesn't work out,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: then you got to go on the road to face
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: a team that is fighting tooth and nail in what
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: has just been a tire fire American League West. So
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: they're yes, they are doing what they should be doing here.
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: I mean I heard her actually say this this morning.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: But it's like, oh, Okay, they finally realized it's early
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: because there's still the second half. You know, we're into
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: the second half now, But it's not too late. I'm
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: gonna I'm not gonna say it's early, but I'm gonna
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: say it's not too late. And they're doing the things
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: that we wanted to see them do. And after last
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: night's game, I just don't know what we have to
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: complain about, except some people take issue with them.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: George Kirby coming out after six.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Four two five saying don canzone nine eighty oh ps
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: against left e's infield was going to play and that
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: typically leads to one run. Francona wanted to try for
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: a double play because there was no difference being down
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: three rip versus seven rip. Not disrespecting anyone, Cal is
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: only you know, you know that kind of talk is
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: only about himself, not versus the team. He's just being
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: sensitive whatever. I mean, Hey, listen, you want to go
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: lefty on lefty. That's what usually the splits say. And
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I get it. There are some nuances here with the numbers,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: but dom canzone, I mean, for really, until that moment
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: last night is not in cal Rawley territory. And do
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: you really want to turn around someone who can still
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: punish a baseball from the right side. Well, you know what,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: you played the game, you won the prize. The Reds
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: played the game, they won the prize. Stupid prizes here
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: and cal Rawley and basically went out and did the
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: whole MJ thing after just one pitch. It took just
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: one pitch for him to say, don't disrespect me. Cal
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Rawley did that seven to nothing. Yet it's against the
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: low lee Reds. But again it's once again a step
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: in the right direction of where this team should be.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Ahead of that thing with execution and with also energy,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: especially from their leader. All Right, Mayor mample Valley is
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: finally back in. I believe he's kind of lurking right
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: around the corner. Yeah, I think I see him, he
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: joins his next I kind of feel like that that
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: talk we had back for the Takomadash text line of energy,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: drinks and coffee didn't last long enough. I think we're
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: gonna like a little deep, deep deep dive on you
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: know that for about fifteen twenty minutes. It's just I
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: think because of the line of work of work that
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: we're in and we're all working at late hours early
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: in the morning. I'm not sure if I had a
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: chance to pose this question to Ian Forness, because I
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: think I last saw him back at the Mayor Maple
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Valley Open. Seems like it was yesterday. I know, it doesn't.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: You've been away long enough.
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: No, it's not even that I wish I haven't been
- 1:17:34Speaker 8: a long I didn't go away long enough, but no,
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: it was I appreciate you coming out though.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: You have funny oh blast, good second year in a row,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: so I'm kind of building up a trend now. Yeah,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I felt so bad because because how bad you got
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I was worse yesterday I played at the golf tournament
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Milk Creek, and so you weren't the problem. I don't
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: think from my was it Al. I'm just kidding. I
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: love it. I'm glad Al came out. I'm not got
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: thrown under the bus.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:18:01Speaker 8: I'm glad Al came out too. It's fun to have
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: him out there, especially with the cause, one of the
- 1:18:04Speaker 8: causes being diabetes something his heart too, so it's good having.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: You body also raised once again Helenski's hope.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: I was a strong I'm glad I made the call
- 1:18:14Speaker 8: to have your foursome the two two man teams and
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: just take the lower of the two scores because it
- 1:18:20Speaker 8: saved probably Georgetown a lot.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: At least brought brought brought about me back next year,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: hopefully thinks off bring you back next year.
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: Yeah, we'll probably, you know, we'll see if we can
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: reunite you with with with your old partner anders Uh
- 1:18:35Speaker 8: andrest his World Cup. But Jeff, I'm playing with with
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: Keith and his buddy.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Oh he was great. Keifer was dialed in man. I mean,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I wish I was that limber and that young as
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: well too, but he was. He was striping him. Yeah.
- 1:18:47Speaker 8: Oh, and he tells me that's a different thing like it, Yeah, isn't.
- 1:18:51Speaker 8: He had no problem to tell me about it because
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: when I when I saw him. For those who don't know,
- 1:18:56Speaker 8: what we do is is the guys whoever uh equals
- 1:19:00Speaker 8: or beats the team, the KJR team or the Mark team,
- 1:19:05Speaker 8: which was in this case Benton and al or Keefer
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: my son and his buddy Cody, whoever, if you equal
- 1:19:12Speaker 8: or beat them, then you get a gift card to
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: Georgetown Browly, no matter where you finish the tournament, you
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: get that. And when I saw you guys on fourteen,
- 1:19:23Speaker 8: you were both both I think you guys are two
- 1:19:26Speaker 8: over at that point and he was one over. Now,
- 1:19:28Speaker 8: the scores were hard that day, like there were not
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: low scores, like the course was playing. It's also like
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: a two man so you are in a group of four,
- 1:19:35Speaker 8: but you're playing a two man SCRAMBN scramble. Yeah, it's
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: not four man, No, it's you get two shots, and
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: so it's a different deal. And I saw you guys,
- 1:19:41Speaker 8: and you were both on the gold tees Progressive Scramble,
- 1:19:44Speaker 8: which means you were the forward tees. That's never a
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: good sign. But I can tell you that most of
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: the field spent time on the gold tees, including guys
- 1:19:50Speaker 8: I know that are like single digit handicaps, Like it
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: was hard for us. Also, like we bogeyed the first hole,
- 1:19:56Speaker 8: so now you'll bump all the way up.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: And we had no birdies all day, so you stay
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: on the goal.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:01Speaker 8: Uh so he par par par bogey par part et cetera. Yeah,
- 1:20:05Speaker 8: and so big fella when I see him and you guys,
- 1:20:08Speaker 8: you're on the goals. And I had to give him
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: a little hard time. Oh hey, fella, And then he
- 1:20:12Speaker 8: just pumped that drive and so I go, well, I'm
- 1:20:17Speaker 8: just text me when you get a bogie.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Just like Cal Rowley and Michael Jordan and I took
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: that person. I go, just text me when you get
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: the bogie.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: And about ten minutes later, I get this text and
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: goes I can't say what most of the text said,
- 1:20:29Speaker 8: but then the last word was eagle, and I'm like, oh,
- 1:20:31Speaker 8: you're off and running now, fella.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: Okay, And he was fired up too, because I took
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: some fun video the entire day but didn't get my
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: eagle video.
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 1:20:42Speaker 8: Well, I'm glad you guys had fun playing together. It
- 1:20:43Speaker 8: was a great cause. It's fun to have to come
- 1:20:45Speaker 8: out there. It's it's great to have Jeffs out there
- 1:20:48Speaker 8: with uh with with with uh Ryley Hilensky and and
- 1:20:53Speaker 8: uh Tyler's younger brother and cruising around. And you know,
- 1:20:56Speaker 8: we next week I'll do a ton of thank yous
- 1:20:58Speaker 8: to all the people that support it, all the great
- 1:20:59Speaker 8: companies and teams I've mentioned before. I mean, Kevin Martinez
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: and the Mariners are phenomenal. I appreciate them.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: Great colobret it Man with the whole Raffle Row those
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: guys are great.
- 1:21:09Speaker 8: Todd Lwicki and the crack And are phenomenal, and Chuck
- 1:21:12Speaker 8: Arnold the Seahawks are great to me, So uh and
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: I say great to me. He was great to the
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: tournament and supporting those causes. So it was fun to
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: have you guys out there. And hopefully Al had a
- 1:21:20Speaker 8: good time as well.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: He had a great time. Do we did? Did you
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: get back to yesterday at any point of the kicker,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: the grand finale, the crescendo of the whole night with
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: a raffle with the Keefer and what he took away?
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Oh well it was his girlfriend. So here we go
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: here we go.
- 1:21:37Speaker 8: There was yeah there's I know people were like looking,
- 1:21:39Speaker 8: but it was his girlfriend and yeah, she got the
- 1:21:42Speaker 8: Monday night football tickets.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: No, not just tickets, also club level, club level and
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: pregame and pregame field passes. Also.
- 1:21:50Speaker 8: Yeah, I wish he wouldn't have celebrated like he did
- 1:21:52Speaker 8: because that looked a little sketchy.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: It's like, no, no, I mean you you saw you
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: saw me pulling the tickets out. Yeah, I did. You
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: went away with something I put in for a few things,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: and I came away with Yellowstone cocktails.
- 1:22:04Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, like a whole six pack, like those are
- 1:22:06Speaker 8: not cheap. No, actually it actually endorses oos and I
- 1:22:09Speaker 8: guess they're pretty good. So yeah, there's a gold Rush,
- 1:22:13Speaker 8: Like I got two bottles of gold Rush. There's two
- 1:22:15Speaker 8: bottles of Old Fashion, never turned down in Old Fashion,
- 1:22:17Speaker 8: by the way.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: And espresso we we have. They're they're they're they're all great.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: If you notice this is interesting world that most of
- 1:22:25Speaker 8: the stuff had something to do with either a sports
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: franchise or alcohol. I guess those are my relationships in
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: this world. My relationship though big stanks of Chambers Bay Distillery.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: We go down the road of all these guys, yellow
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Stone Cocktails, Cocktail.
- 1:22:43Speaker 8: We had a couple of wineries there, Glen Hawk and
- 1:22:45Speaker 8: a couple others, and yeah, so it was but it
- 1:22:48Speaker 8: was a great time. Columby distributing. Those guys do a
- 1:22:49Speaker 8: great job. But it's always a fun event. And the
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: next thing is August twenty first. We have the fact
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: of God and now I just look down to today's
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: July twenty first, one month from to day, and I
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: can't wait to go right back in and bring back
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: a k Mayor IPA comes out on August twenty first,
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: So yeah here and that goes fast. It goes faster
- 1:23:06Speaker 8: our seven or eight days.
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: So youre's day in the week that you're back in
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: now Seahawks training camp is so so close.
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: What you got.
- 1:23:11Speaker 8: We're gonna check Corbyn Smith. We're visiting with him every
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: day this week at twelve twenty he's going to join
- 1:23:15Speaker 8: us coming up at twelve twenty. Today, we'll talk about
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: even Worri and then we'll talk We tease yesterday offensive
- 1:23:19Speaker 8: line conversation heading into camp. Maybe we'll less questions with
- 1:23:24Speaker 8: that than we've had in the past with the offensive line,
- 1:23:26Speaker 8: which is just a jes you've been here in a
- 1:23:28Speaker 8: zillion years. I mean, when have we not had offensive
- 1:23:29Speaker 8: line questions? It's this feels like fewer than most years
- 1:23:32Speaker 8: football in Yeah. And then if you're not talking about
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: in the running back conversation, Yeah, we got all those,
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: So Corbin at twelve twenty, Joe she and all Things
- 1:23:41Speaker 8: Baseball one twenty, and then John Lund if.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: He answers the phone at two o'clock, all right, ends
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: up next. Greg Bell's back in tomorrow. I'm Mike with Justinman.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Big thanks, folks, See up
