- 0:31Speaker 3: I am with literally the two ogs of the Ogs
- 0:36Speaker 3: that we've ever had on the show.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I don't think it gets any.
- 0:39Speaker 1: More, not less Alex was here.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Exactly unless we had Alex Michelle, which that's never happened.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And that guy doesn't He's like the groundhog on Groundhog Day.
- 0:49Speaker 3: We only see him like once a year.
- 0:51Speaker 4: You don't even see him that much, see that much.
- 0:53Speaker 2: No, we don't see him that much.
- 0:54Speaker 3: But I am with the two finalists from the very
- 0:57Speaker 3: first season that The Bachelor was ever on the air. Now,
- 1:01Speaker 3: I know it seems like a lot longer ago, but
- 1:03Speaker 3: it was only what it was a two thousand and two,
- 1:05Speaker 3: two thousand and one.
- 1:06Speaker 2: What year was that that the season air?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Two thousand and two, Yeah, two thousand and two, which
- 1:11Speaker 4: was a one time ago, kidding, it.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Was oddly enough, we did like sixteen shows that season
- 1:17Speaker 3: because I was also I was also the Bachelor, so
- 1:21Speaker 3: I did twist this season the Bachelor at that year,
- 1:23Speaker 3: and then two thousand and three, I was the fourth
- 1:26Speaker 3: Bachelor already, so I mean we were just packing it in.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 1:30Speaker 3: We have Amanda Caldwell, who at the time was known,
- 1:33Speaker 3: of course as Amanda marsh and Amanda you were the
- 1:37Speaker 3: winner of the first season of the Bachelor with Alex Michelle.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Welcome to the show, and thank you for joining us.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I know, what's exciting to see you both.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so exciting. It's crazy.
- 1:47Speaker 1: How do you feel about being called a winner? I laughed.
- 1:53Speaker 5: It reminds me of like, you know, when Charlie Sheen
- 1:55Speaker 5: said he was winning winning, don't we I mean, first
- 2:02Speaker 5: of all, what I want a man? And then I know, yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 5: definitely not a quality relationship either, and so.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Who knew? Yeah?
- 2:14Speaker 3: How long how long did you guys stay together? Actually, like,
- 2:16Speaker 3: how long were you after.
- 2:18Speaker 4: The final To be honest, about a year?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Oh wow, okay, anticipated.
- 2:24Speaker 5: It is Yeah, considering long distance and everything. Yeah, I
- 2:30Speaker 5: gave it a good go for about a year. No,
- 2:36Speaker 5: you know, we would keep in touch until maybe ten
- 2:41Speaker 5: years ago. Just kind of happy birthday emails? How are
- 2:45Speaker 5: you kind of you know, we were all in this
- 2:49Speaker 5: weird situation together, right, and as you get to know
- 2:53Speaker 5: someone and you realize, oh, some of us maybe weren't
- 2:58Speaker 5: as authentic as others during filming or now we're in
- 3:04Speaker 5: the real world, what are you really like? Yeah, but
- 3:11Speaker 5: there were I mean, no hard feelings. So there's just
- 3:15Speaker 5: this weird connection. I think all of us have, having
- 3:17Speaker 5: gone through this situation and so and then over time
- 3:21Speaker 5: it was just you know, what's there left to say?
- 3:25Speaker 5: And you kind of move on, and in a sense
- 3:28Speaker 5: it was a relationship, and so out of respect for
- 3:31Speaker 5: new relationships, you just.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Things.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you almost you almost kind of have to.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I mean, you know.
- 3:39Speaker 3: On the other hand, you know, my ex girlfriend Trista
- 3:44Speaker 3: has been a part of my life ever since.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Toak it along.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and her poor husband, who was my roommate on
- 3:53Speaker 3: the shell, he has to deal with.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Me like, okay, buddy, what's going on?
- 3:57Speaker 1: Man?
- 3:57Speaker 2: I like that little puppy dog that just won't leave a.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Long Yeah, deal with us, because you're not easy to
- 4:03Speaker 1: deal with.
- 4:04Speaker 3: That's rights acquired taste. I always say that about my wife.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I always go you know, she's an acquired taste. If
- 4:10Speaker 3: you don't like her, acquire some taste.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Well, I didn't watch all of Trista's season, but I
- 4:20Speaker 5: was curious, and I think Trista did a wonderful job.
- 4:23Speaker 5: I think, thank you, there was a lot of for me.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I think nerves are like, okay, how is a woman
- 4:29Speaker 5: gonna be presented represented in this situation? But I do
- 4:34Speaker 5: remember you, Bob.
- 4:34Speaker 4: You were hilarious.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it was so adorable and charming. So I think
- 4:40Speaker 5: that's awesome that you know you had your shot at
- 4:43Speaker 5: being a Bachelor as well.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Well, thank you, I got I got lucky.
- 4:47Speaker 3: You know, they Trista made sure they edited me nicely,
- 4:50Speaker 3: So yeah, I got lucky.
- 4:51Speaker 4: There were.
- 4:57Speaker 2: She's like, listen, I want you to read you that.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I want you read those, you know, two episodes he
- 5:02Speaker 3: made an appearance on Or However, was just kidding it.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So okay, Amanda, So you you go on the show.
- 5:09Speaker 3: First of all, I mean, this was such new news
- 5:12Speaker 3: back then. Right now, it's like it's in the Zeitgeace.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Everybody knows what the Bachelor is now, but back then,
- 5:16Speaker 3: no one knew what it was. How did you find
- 5:18Speaker 3: out about it. How did you end up on the show?
- 5:21Speaker 3: You know, and and all that good stuff.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Well, perfect timing maybe is how you can look at it.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I literally had the month before quit a job and
- 5:35Speaker 5: was unemployed, and my former sister in law, who was
- 5:40Speaker 5: one of my good friends, was living in California and
- 5:43Speaker 5: she was moving back to Kansas City to get married.
- 5:45Speaker 5: So I flew out to California, first time I had
- 5:48Speaker 5: ever been there. She picks me up from the airport
- 5:51Speaker 5: and we went to the promenade for lunch. And I'll
- 5:54Speaker 5: never forget because it's kind of embarrassing reflecting. I mean,
- 5:57Speaker 5: as you probably saw on the show, I wore a
- 6:00Speaker 5: lot of turtlenecks and I had one on and I
- 6:02Speaker 5: remember all that.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It was a thing.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It was a thing.
- 6:09Speaker 5: It was early two thousands, for sure. But we were
- 6:12Speaker 5: having lunch and one of the producers came over to
- 6:14Speaker 5: our table and asked if we were single. And my
- 6:18Speaker 5: friend was engaged, but I was like, man, I'm single.
- 6:21Speaker 5: I got nothing going on. I had just moved into
- 6:24Speaker 5: one of my brother's houses with his family, so I
- 6:27Speaker 5: feeling really low. So I thought, well, okay, let's look
- 6:31Speaker 5: into this. But you know, being approached Hey, how about
- 6:34Speaker 5: this dating show? I thought, no, I mean, you're going
- 6:37Speaker 5: to fill me in a basement something smarty. And so
- 6:41Speaker 5: my boy friend had an agent and he said, no,
- 6:44Speaker 5: this this is a real show for ABC. So the fact,
- 6:49Speaker 5: you know, looking for love. Yes, I was single, but
- 6:52Speaker 5: it was more I get a break from Kansas and
- 6:56Speaker 5: I got not done but time and.
- 6:59Speaker 3: An experience, right, a fun experience in la or whatever.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Now I know I know some of these answers of
- 7:07Speaker 3: Trista's experience, but of course I don't know them of yours.
- 7:10Speaker 3: So you get out of the limo, right, you don't
- 7:13Speaker 3: know who you're meeting, which was like my season was
- 7:15Speaker 3: so different because we knew we were meeting Trista. And
- 7:18Speaker 3: then when they made me the bachelor, the women knew
- 7:20Speaker 3: they were meeting me, right, So that so those were
- 7:23Speaker 3: both a little bit different. But you guys weren't really.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I mean, you guys are really coming out of the cocoon.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Right, You're like, you know, there's a butterfly. Yeah, it's like, okay,
- 7:31Speaker 2: who's this character?
- 7:32Speaker 1: We're the whatever you are before. You're a butterfly like
- 7:36Speaker 1: a caterpillar.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Yes, we're a.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Baby care a caterpillar.
- 7:39Speaker 2: You're the guy.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So you get out of the limo, you look at
- 7:42Speaker 3: Alex Michelle. Are you like, oh my god, this is
- 7:45Speaker 3: my guy? Or do you look at him and you're
- 7:46Speaker 3: kind of like, well, here we go. I mean I
- 7:49Speaker 3: had less to do with him and more to do
- 7:50Speaker 3: with you in that moment, probably like what was your experience?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Like, oh wait, wait, I have a follow up to that.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Did they show you a picture? Because I know they
- 7:57Speaker 1: showed me a picture, like during cast? Did they show
- 8:00Speaker 1: you a picture of him?
- 8:02Speaker 4: They offered?
- 8:03Speaker 5: So during casting they said, you know, we have a
- 8:06Speaker 5: photo and his bio. But I didn't want to know anything.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I mean, to be honest, I didn't really care. I'm
- 8:15Speaker 5: just here to get out of Kansas. As much as
- 8:18Speaker 5: I love Kansas City, I'm like, this is this is
- 8:21Speaker 5: just fun and now labou like what could go wrong?
- 8:25Speaker 5: So no, I didn't want to know. I wanted to
- 8:28Speaker 5: just authentically go into it. I kind of figured I
- 8:32Speaker 5: probably wouldn't like whoever it was anyway, right, I mean,
- 8:36Speaker 5: what are the chances?
- 8:38Speaker 4: Some of us have good chances, thank god, But so no,
- 8:44Speaker 4: And so.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Then when we got out of the limo, I mean
- 8:48Speaker 5: we were in there for hours, consuming a lot of champagne,
- 8:51Speaker 5: So I think anyone could look good at that point.
- 8:53Speaker 5: But there was not fireworks right at first. I mean,
- 9:00Speaker 5: all dark hair. I kind of thought, oh, but now
- 9:02Speaker 5: it took some time getting to know a little bit
- 9:06Speaker 5: more of his personality, so.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then once you did.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I mean, did you genuinely start feeling like you were
- 9:14Speaker 3: falling in love with them?
- 9:17Speaker 4: So that's a good question.
- 9:18Speaker 5: And in the moment, I do think psychologically you get
- 9:24Speaker 5: wrapped up in this situation. I mean, I'm sure it
- 9:28Speaker 5: was all similar for our seasons where you're limited no
- 9:32Speaker 5: cell phone, no TV like, no magazines. All you have
- 9:36Speaker 5: is to talk about this main character. Yeah, and you're
- 9:41Speaker 5: being interviewed all day. And at least my season got
- 9:46Speaker 5: a lot of booze, which at twenty three I was
- 9:48Speaker 5: down for. So you know, over time, yes, you kind
- 9:56Speaker 5: of feel like, or at least I did, like he
- 9:58Speaker 5: is the last man on earth, so it's not so
- 10:02Speaker 5: much like I have to win, but you just become
- 10:05Speaker 5: a little bit more hungry for him. And yeah, and
- 10:10Speaker 5: I just think he was funny. I mean, there were moments,
- 10:14Speaker 5: you know, before our relationship carried on at least during
- 10:17Speaker 5: filming the limited exposure. Yeah, I thought we had some chemistry.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well, obviously I would hope that you wouldn't have
- 10:26Speaker 1: chemistry if you end up with you know, end up
- 10:29Speaker 1: with the person at the end of the show, you know,
- 10:31Speaker 1: like you have to have some chemistry.
- 10:34Speaker 3: It was such an experiment though at that point, right
- 10:36Speaker 3: because the producers.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Didn't really even know what they were doing.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I mean, they were still figuring it out when I
- 10:40Speaker 3: was the Bachelor, so I can only imagine at that
- 10:43Speaker 3: point of the process what they were, you know, how
- 10:47Speaker 3: they were dealing with things. I mean, you know, this
- 10:49Speaker 3: is just gonna you know, so we want them to
- 10:50Speaker 3: cry here, and I remember back then so much drama.
- 10:54Speaker 3: They were minding the drama hard, you know, like just
- 10:57Speaker 3: trying to get us to you know, cry or whatever.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And the booze didn't hurt, you know.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Unfortunately with the guys that when Tristan was the Bachelorette,
- 11:04Speaker 3: you know, we we got along so great, and the
- 11:07Speaker 3: boos just get along even better. So I think we
- 11:10Speaker 3: were we almost went in the wrong direction. I almost
- 11:12Speaker 3: got kicked off the show behind the scenes because I
- 11:14Speaker 3: was having just too much fun. I mean, I remember
- 11:17Speaker 3: Face pulls me out of that time. He's like, you're
- 11:21Speaker 3: ruining Michelle. Relax, you guys don't have to be friends.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It like, I love these guys and I love her.
- 11:26Speaker 3: If this is just awesome.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I was just so happy to be there. Yeah, I
- 11:31Speaker 2: mean it was so great.
- 11:33Speaker 5: I mean, I am so thankful. I really don't keep
- 11:37Speaker 5: up with the show, but I am so thankful. I
- 11:39Speaker 5: know for our season, we all got along bonded. I
- 11:43Speaker 5: mean I laugh and often tell people who ask. I
- 11:46Speaker 5: mean I remember rooming with Shannon and helping each other
- 11:49Speaker 5: pick out.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Out but like the things, you know, doing care.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Yeah, she's such a great girl too. You guys, you
- 11:57Speaker 3: guys did have such great women on your season.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, we did wonderful.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:02Speaker 1: We were definitely like just trying to figure it out
- 12:05Speaker 1: and just kind of go with the flow and do
- 12:09Speaker 1: whatever because we had no guy.
- 12:11Speaker 5: We had no idea God, but you no idea what
- 12:13Speaker 5: was happening, nothing to you know, uh model or shape
- 12:17Speaker 5: this after or protect ourselves from and that matter.
- 12:21Speaker 4: I think it was really genuine. Yes, we were.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Kind of led with questioning and good old editing, but
- 12:29Speaker 5: you know, trying to create some drama. I remember they
- 12:33Speaker 5: you know, went to my hometown, which I had not
- 12:35Speaker 5: lived in for you know, ten years, or not ten years.
- 12:39Speaker 5: I guess it would have been like five years. But
- 12:41Speaker 5: they wanted to take Alex to my dad's grave side,
- 12:45Speaker 5: and oh thank god, I was like able to just
- 12:48Speaker 5: say no and not you know, be forced upon that.
- 12:51Speaker 4: I'm like, you, I can get that drama. Yeah, you know, even.
- 12:56Speaker 3: When I will tell you that they didn't lose that
- 12:58Speaker 3: bag of tricks because even when I was the I'll
- 13:01Speaker 3: never forget going to Meredith's hometown and they they pull
- 13:04Speaker 3: in and we went to her grandma's gravesite, and I'm
- 13:06Speaker 3: I'm miked, I'm like, what are we doing?
- 13:09Speaker 2: I don't I shouldn't be here. This is where I'm there,
- 13:11Speaker 2: you know, like this is.
- 13:13Speaker 3: You know, yeah, it was like, you know that that
- 13:15Speaker 3: was a that was a good one. They went back
- 13:17Speaker 3: to the bag on with me. But I was actually,
- 13:19Speaker 3: you know, in retrospect now, I'm thankful that I you know,
- 13:23Speaker 3: if I if I had to have a genuine moment
- 13:25Speaker 3: with someone, that was one, you know, because because it
- 13:28Speaker 3: was you know, she it was.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Very fresh for her.
- 13:30Speaker 3: It happened during our season, so but man, it was
- 13:33Speaker 3: it was one of those moments where I'm like, I'm
- 13:35Speaker 3: not I don't.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Think this is the right thing to do. It's a
- 13:37Speaker 2: TV show, you know. Yeah?
- 13:38Speaker 1: Yeah, do you feel like like nowadays, I feel like
- 13:52Speaker 1: a lot of people talk about how like they're edit
- 13:56Speaker 1: and especially with AI and stuff, I feel like there's
- 13:59Speaker 1: a lot of talk about how they can actually make
- 14:03Speaker 1: you say something that you never said. And I've always
- 14:08Speaker 1: been like of the thought process that you they can't
- 14:14Speaker 1: make you say something that you didn't say, But it
- 14:17Speaker 1: seems like because of AI they can possibly do that now.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know the technology. I am not
- 14:24Speaker 1: a producer. I haven't been on the show in forever.
- 14:28Speaker 1: But was there ever a moment that you felt like
- 14:31Speaker 1: your words were twisted or you know that you said
- 14:37Speaker 1: something but because you know it's all in context too,
- 14:40Speaker 1: that you know you say something and it's taken out
- 14:43Speaker 1: of context. Was there ever a moment like that for
- 14:45Speaker 1: you that you remember. I mean, it was a long
- 14:50Speaker 1: time ago. I know, I was going to say that
- 14:53Speaker 1: it was a lot. I don't remember tomorrow or yesterday.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I don't remember tomorrow, but yeah, I do remember this
- 15:00Speaker 1: overall sense when watching the show kind of heartbroken and
- 15:04Speaker 1: let down. But it's really being nive that so much
- 15:11Speaker 1: was you know, either out of context or the timeframe.
- 15:14Speaker 1: So for example, I mean I remember the Rose ceremonies.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You hand them out, Okay, give them back everyone, get
- 15:21Speaker 1: back to your places. Retake, retake, and so a lot
- 15:24Speaker 1: of those facial expressions, you know, those looks or stairs
- 15:28Speaker 1: were not even targeted at that moment. It was just
- 15:33Speaker 1: really calculated with their editing. There were some moments where
- 15:38Speaker 1: I would share something and not realize, oh, this is
- 15:42Speaker 1: going to be aired. In particular, when we were in
- 15:47Speaker 1: the hotel room before the even first Rose ceremony, there
- 15:52Speaker 1: was discussion and you know, I was the sex pot.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Anything I said, that's all they wanted to air, is
- 15:58Speaker 1: all I am?
- 15:58Speaker 4: The sex sex sex.
- 16:01Speaker 5: Yeah, like great, of course, and then you know the
- 16:05Speaker 5: fact that I was busted. He just puts it all
- 16:06Speaker 5: together for them.
- 16:08Speaker 4: So you know that was a little old and annoying. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 4: but I did say what I said, so.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Like yeah, yeah, right, I mean I am who I am.
- 16:17Speaker 5: I said what I said, And I'll always tell everyone,
- 16:19Speaker 5: you know, be careful.
- 16:20Speaker 4: What you say. It will be used against you.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know, and ever and ever.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Did they ever did you guys ever feel like the
- 16:30Speaker 3: two of you, did you ever feel like you were
- 16:32Speaker 3: being pitted against one another kind of like you know,
- 16:34Speaker 3: because I I know that that was a game they
- 16:36Speaker 3: tried to do from a production perspective as well, right,
- 16:38Speaker 3: they they always wanted it to steer one way and
- 16:41Speaker 3: then go the other way? Was that I mean, was
- 16:43Speaker 3: that ever something where you felt like you you might
- 16:45Speaker 3: have gone like don a rabbit hole you didn't want
- 16:47Speaker 3: to go, and you know, I mean I could imagine
- 16:50Speaker 3: it was. It was a ratings juggernaut for for them,
- 16:52Speaker 3: so they probably really wanted to play that up.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You know, I don't remember ever being pitted, you know, I.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Feel like they were.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I feel like they were legitimately there just in the background.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Was my like kind of take on what I remember
- 17:10Speaker 1: from the first season is just they were there. Obviously
- 17:14Speaker 1: when you go into your itms, they're asking you questions
- 17:18Speaker 1: and that kind of thing. But at that point in time,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I don't know that it was as like cutthroat, if
- 17:24Speaker 1: you will, as it is now where they really figure
- 17:29Speaker 1: out like something that drives everyone crazy and they just
- 17:33Speaker 1: like keep digging and digging and digging do you know
- 17:35Speaker 1: what I mean? But I don't feel like there was
- 17:38Speaker 1: We really truly got along, all of us really well.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I felt like and until they like separate you and
- 17:47Speaker 1: you go into your I think it was hometowns or
- 17:50Speaker 1: like right before hometowns that you go to your Like
- 17:53Speaker 1: each of us had a separate hotel that we stayed at.
- 17:56Speaker 1: We weren't even at the same hotel. I don't know,
- 17:58Speaker 1: oh for you, yeah, but we were at different house.
- 18:02Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't think they pitted
- 18:05Speaker 5: us against each other, which is what I think was
- 18:08Speaker 5: so beautiful about it, because I mean I grew up
- 18:10Speaker 5: with three older brothers, so going in and I didn't
- 18:13Speaker 5: even stay in the sorority, like it was too much
- 18:15Speaker 5: for me. So going into this was just a whole
- 18:17Speaker 5: bunch of women, I thought, oh my god, But I
- 18:21Speaker 5: really liked everyone. No, I don't think Tristan and I
- 18:25Speaker 5: got to know each other really well, but I kind
- 18:27Speaker 5: of had, you know, kind of groups. I felt like
- 18:30Speaker 5: we were always with. But there was never any bad feelings.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I never thought of either one of us as like
- 18:37Speaker 5: competition or a threat. I mean, you like who you like,
- 18:43Speaker 5: you know. Afterwards, I think it people want that they
- 18:47Speaker 5: want that competition and to pick sides, which fine. But
- 18:53Speaker 5: I love that we all kind of looked after each
- 18:56Speaker 5: other because I remember Trista after the show, a few
- 18:59Speaker 5: of us would talk to each other, like if we
- 19:01Speaker 5: had interviews and there were people claiming to know me,
- 19:04Speaker 5: and you know, you check in with each other, and
- 19:07Speaker 5: I you know, I just appreciated that you know so much,
- 19:10Speaker 5: that we all had that bond and one of the
- 19:14Speaker 5: best for each other.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I think, yeah, that's awesome. Do you, Amanda, do you
- 19:20Speaker 1: know like what happened after uh, like after the rose ceremony?
- 19:29Speaker 1: For me, do you know what happened? Like have you
- 19:33Speaker 1: heard the stories?
- 19:34Speaker 2: No?
- 19:35Speaker 4: I mean and.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Based on like I was a part of, and I'm like, oh,
- 19:42Speaker 5: it's told me. And then I remember when we watched
- 19:48Speaker 5: if it was on if they aired this, or when
- 19:52Speaker 5: I worked at a radio station. The program director thought
- 19:54Speaker 5: it was funny and gave me the DVD for Christmas.
- 19:57Speaker 4: And I watched once.
- 20:01Speaker 5: I I can't remember. It was like an added ending
- 20:05Speaker 5: where he called you at the end.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Of right, That's what I was asking about. So at
- 20:12Speaker 1: the end, at the end of the rose ceremony, well,
- 20:17Speaker 1: like maybe it was that night I was talking to
- 20:19Speaker 1: Levinson and I'm like, this is just weird. Like if
- 20:23Speaker 1: you break up with somebody, you usually have the ability
- 20:26Speaker 1: to like get closure and actually know why and like
- 20:30Speaker 1: have an extended conversation. And I was the first to
- 20:34Speaker 1: really get down to the end and be like I
- 20:37Speaker 1: fully expected him to propose to me because he had
- 20:41Speaker 1: told me that two nights ago. I point blank asked him,
- 20:44Speaker 1: who would you choose if you had to choose now?
- 20:47Speaker 1: And clearly he was gonna say me because he was
- 20:50Speaker 1: totally being put on the spot by me. Yes, but
- 20:53Speaker 1: I I point blake asked him, who are you gonna?
- 20:56Speaker 1: Are you gonna get engaged in?
- 20:58Speaker 4: Who?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Who would you ask right now? This is two days before?
- 21:01Speaker 1: And he's like you. So I fully went into the
- 21:04Speaker 1: Rose ceremony thinking I was getting engaged and then and
- 21:07Speaker 1: then he says, you know, it's not you, And I
- 21:11Speaker 1: was like, I walked away and I was like in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the limo saying, oh, I'm I'm sad, but I'll be fine,
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know, like it's it's okay, I'm just sad. And
- 21:21Speaker 1: and then I talked to Levinson later that night and
- 21:23Speaker 1: I was like, this is just weird, like I don't
- 21:25Speaker 1: get to talk to him about why, like why did
- 21:28Speaker 1: you change his mind? And it's not me? And I
- 21:30Speaker 1: fully expected to get engaged and why am I not
- 21:32Speaker 1: engaged and what like why just the big why you know? Closure?
- 21:38Speaker 1: And she was I was like, is there any way
- 21:42Speaker 1: I can talk to him because I just want to know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: like just tell them please. If Amanda's your girl, then great,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and you you made that up and you told me
- 21:51Speaker 1: that you were going to pick me awesome. I wish
- 21:53Speaker 1: you guys all the best, but just tell me what
- 21:55Speaker 1: the hell happened, like what was going on? And so
- 21:59Speaker 1: she was like, let me, let me call around and
- 22:02Speaker 1: see if there's something we can do. So they got
- 22:05Speaker 1: us on the phone, and during the phone call, he
- 22:10Speaker 1: told me he thought he made a mistake and then
- 22:15Speaker 1: he wanted to come over to my hotel room and
- 22:17Speaker 1: they were like, Nope, not happening. And at that point too,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I was like, no, I don't know if we should
- 22:22Speaker 1: go that far. I just wanted to know what happened.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I don't know that. I don't know that now that
- 22:27Speaker 1: you've chosen somebody else that I really want to do stuff,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but it or move forward with like stuff, but but
- 22:34Speaker 1: I just I just wanted to know. Anyway, they they
- 22:37Speaker 1: put that kobash on that real quick because they were like,
- 22:39Speaker 1: we don't want to have to go back and film, right,
- 22:42Speaker 1: So anyway, I just didn't know if you knew that
- 22:47Speaker 1: that phone call and that statement literally he said, I
- 22:52Speaker 1: think I may have made a mistake to me, which
- 22:56Speaker 1: is why afterwards I go home and I'm like, crap,
- 22:59Speaker 1: Like this guy I told like, I liked this guy.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I wasn't in love with him, but I liked him,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and I was like, he told me he made a mistake,
- 23:06Speaker 1: Like what do I do with that?
- 23:08Speaker 4: Do you know what I mean?
- 23:10Speaker 1: Anyway, I.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Had a few theories about especially as I got to
- 23:17Speaker 5: know the type of person he was. Later, so one
- 23:24Speaker 5: I was asked when we were down to the final
- 23:26Speaker 5: three and then the final two, if I'd ever be
- 23:29Speaker 5: a bachelorette, and at that time, not knowing what that
- 23:34Speaker 5: could look like, I was a little terrified of how
- 23:38Speaker 5: that might appear back in those days, and with already
- 23:42Speaker 5: in my oversharing and already with my history of relationships,
- 23:47Speaker 5: I didn't want it to look like I take love lightly,
- 23:51Speaker 5: And so I instantly said no, like no way. I
- 23:55Speaker 5: could never see myself doing that, which again came off
- 24:00Speaker 5: beautiful and all of that, but just the unknown, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 5: freaked me out, and so from a protective standpoint, I
- 24:10Speaker 5: was like, no way. So then a part of me
- 24:12Speaker 5: wondered if they had asked you and if you were like, yes,
- 24:17Speaker 5: you know, whether you liked him or not, if that
- 24:19Speaker 5: was ever something you do, and so that kind of
- 24:21Speaker 5: help ass me until they didn't finale aired. Oh okay,
- 24:26Speaker 5: so I kind of wondered if that was in the air,
- 24:29Speaker 5: and then I mean, of course he's going to state
- 24:33Speaker 5: you because you did ask of course I was going
- 24:37Speaker 5: to have his ball cinched and.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Was like, oh yeah, I mean, but if he was
- 24:44Speaker 1: being honest, he could have been like, honestly, I don't know, yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I got a wait and see. Two days is a
- 24:51Speaker 1: big amount of time in this like short little pressure
- 24:54Speaker 1: cooker that you're in.
- 24:56Speaker 4: He could have.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Totally said I I don't know, I like you both,
- 24:59Speaker 1: or you know.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I think he was very aware of anyone's feelings but
- 25:08Speaker 5: his own, which they learned throughout the year. But the
- 25:15Speaker 5: you know fact that if you watch the Vice documentary,
- 25:20Speaker 5: neither one of us were his first pick for many episodes,
- 25:24Speaker 5: although we got the first roses with influence.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I never knew that, you know.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Alex, I don't even know what you're talking about. What's
- 25:33Speaker 1: this vice document?
- 25:34Speaker 5: Yeah, So all the producers that were on our show
- 25:38Speaker 5: that were really active, and you probably remember them if
- 25:42Speaker 5: you see it. Alex, we were not his top two
- 25:47Speaker 5: picks or maybe even in the top five. And he
- 25:53Speaker 5: really liked Kimberly and Kathy and so I do remember
- 25:57Speaker 5: Mike like the Blonde, and they kept kind of inserting
- 26:04Speaker 5: us and because we had backgrounds and personalities and they
- 26:08Speaker 5: wanted more airtime for us. So that was shocking a
- 26:12Speaker 5: little bit too. And I mean, I know there's a manipulation,
- 26:17Speaker 5: but in that moment, when you know we're twenty three,
- 26:19Speaker 5: nothing had ever been done like this. I really didn't
- 26:23Speaker 5: think there was so much manipulation, not having any Hollywood experience.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So even though I don't think Alex was very true
- 26:34Speaker 5: to anyone, you know, I feel good.
- 26:36Speaker 4: I'm sure you were.
- 26:36Speaker 5: You know, I was true to myself and my feelings,
- 26:40Speaker 5: and so at least I can sleep about that. But yeah,
- 26:45Speaker 5: I mean, do you remember the email that came out
- 26:47Speaker 5: that he and the company tried to shoot down that
- 26:52Speaker 5: he sent to friends saying, yeah, well Amanda is a
- 26:56Speaker 5: little bit.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Fatter than Trista, but he did not.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Yes, that came out like in the news, and he
- 27:04Speaker 5: was saying, no, I never had to have been hacked.
- 27:06Speaker 5: I never would have said something like that. Well, I
- 27:11Speaker 5: received from an anonymous source a whole bunch of emails
- 27:13Speaker 5: about him talking about high school girls, and they were
- 27:16Speaker 5: also very really damaging words, and so it just began
- 27:23Speaker 5: to grow that, oh my gosh, this is.
- 27:26Speaker 1: When you guys were together. Yeah, and that's when things
- 27:29Speaker 1: were ending. I mean, PROBABLYS want to say, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: it's because I found out you guys still talked or
- 27:35Speaker 1: slept together, which I mean, I do think you should
- 27:37Speaker 1: have shared that in a relationship.
- 27:40Speaker 4: He should have kind of disclosed a lot.
- 27:43Speaker 1: We were still talking, for sure. I mean, yeah, we
- 27:46Speaker 1: were writing. Just because of where I was coming from.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I was like, I if I can write a letter,
- 27:52Speaker 1: and that was all we had at the time. You know,
- 27:54Speaker 1: we didn't exchange FO numbers. Yeah, so I would write
- 28:00Speaker 1: him a letter and most of them I didn't send.
- 28:02Speaker 1: And then I remember he sent one back and he's
- 28:05Speaker 1: like something about leaving a door open or something. And
- 28:09Speaker 1: at that point, I was kind of like I just
- 28:11Speaker 1: wanted closure, Like I just wanted to know that you're
- 28:14Speaker 1: good with Amanda. Like I don't need to move forward,
- 28:17Speaker 1: but I just in that moment, I just needed to
- 28:21Speaker 1: be able to like, you know, like absolutely know what
- 28:25Speaker 1: he what was going through his head when he told
- 28:27Speaker 1: me certain things.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I feel like, Amanda, you you have you done a
- 28:41Speaker 3: lot of therapy over the years, because you are so
- 28:43Speaker 3: well adjusted about all this kind of stuff, Like I mean,
- 28:46Speaker 3: you're just like you know, and it was just an
- 28:48Speaker 3: experience and I'm okay, I love it because I mean
- 28:51Speaker 3: I talked to some people who, you know, twenty years
- 28:54Speaker 3: ago and they're still they're still pissed off about you know,
- 28:56Speaker 3: someone cutting them off in the in the in the
- 28:58Speaker 3: grocery store parking. Yeah, you're just like, you know, I
- 29:01Speaker 3: started realizing who he was and I was okay with
- 29:04Speaker 3: leg Go.
- 29:05Speaker 5: I mean it was hard, you guys, I mean it
- 29:09Speaker 5: was hard. And yes, I mean right after the show finished,
- 29:14Speaker 5: we were totally dropped, like our relationship by support. We
- 29:21Speaker 5: were just ghosted, and really I did not know what
- 29:25Speaker 5: to do with myself, you know. I tried to live
- 29:27Speaker 5: in California. I couldn't figure out career wise what I
- 29:32Speaker 5: should do. I kind of felt like there was this
- 29:34Speaker 5: expectation since I had been on TV. I was really
- 29:38Speaker 5: turned off with Hollywood, having gone to some events and
- 29:42Speaker 5: meeting like Alex instantly jumped on that bat bandwagon, and
- 29:46Speaker 5: it just was not authentic.
- 29:49Speaker 4: What I was around.
- 29:50Speaker 5: And so when I got the job offer to be
- 29:54Speaker 5: a DJ at a radio station and be on the
- 29:56Speaker 5: morning show, I was like, absolutely no place like home.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Get me out of here. I had trouble, I, you know,
- 30:03Speaker 5: started having panic attacks. Alex would come visit and we'd
- 30:07Speaker 5: go to a mall and I remember the first one.
- 30:10Speaker 5: We were on our way to the movie and I
- 30:12Speaker 5: had to get in a corridor and I just was
- 30:15Speaker 5: blacking out, couldn't breathe didn't know what was happening, and
- 30:18Speaker 5: so panic attacks, depression. There was not a lot of
- 30:23Speaker 5: social media, but there was enough out there about we
- 30:27Speaker 5: have five eight. I had triple D breasts at the time,
- 30:30Speaker 5: and you know, a size four six, which isn't huge.
- 30:33Speaker 5: I still am not size, but I mean I was
- 30:36Speaker 5: body shamed, and so I got on antidepressants and I
- 30:40Speaker 5: did I had years of therapy you.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Know, I want to say something about that.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I mean, I can actually, you know, relate a little
- 30:48Speaker 3: bit to that, because when I was on Tristas season,
- 30:51Speaker 3: you know, I was a little heavier than I'd been
- 30:52Speaker 3: previously in my life because I played sports and everything.
- 30:55Speaker 3: And I remember I was the funny fat guy everywhere
- 30:57Speaker 3: I went, and I was like, what.
- 31:00Speaker 2: The hell are you talking about?
- 31:01Speaker 3: You know, and so it was kind of it was
- 31:03Speaker 3: one of those things where I know that could be
- 31:05Speaker 3: really difficult. I went through it too, and so I
- 31:07Speaker 3: can only imagine how that had to feel as a
- 31:09Speaker 3: as a beautiful woman. You know, my I guess my
- 31:12Speaker 3: revenge in my head, not that I need revenge, but
- 31:15Speaker 3: everyone would always come up and go, oh my god,
- 31:17Speaker 3: you're not fat, and I'm like, yeah, thanks, So I'm
- 31:21Speaker 3: glad four people out in front of you know, pat
- 31:24Speaker 3: Son tell me that when you know, three million viewers
- 31:26Speaker 3: think I'm a pig. But it was like, I get
- 31:28Speaker 3: I get that that could be really hard, you know,
- 31:30Speaker 3: and so yeah, good.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 31:32Speaker 4: You look so much better in person.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I get that. I still get that one. Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 2: I still get that one.
- 31:41Speaker 5: No, it was hard, but I you know, I think
- 31:45Speaker 5: there was a lot even behind that. I mean, losing
- 31:48Speaker 5: my dad at the age of twelve, I think, abandonment,
- 31:51Speaker 5: the whole bunch of development issues I had to deal with.
- 31:56Speaker 5: I had been bullied because I had some breast development
- 31:59Speaker 5: is shoes when I was growing up. I mean, there's
- 32:01Speaker 5: so much more to my past, like all of us,
- 32:06Speaker 5: that makes us so we are. And then I was
- 32:08Speaker 5: in this very vulnerable situation without really any safety net,
- 32:14Speaker 5: so how to find it, which I did, And then
- 32:16Speaker 5: you know, with my career, I mean that is my
- 32:20Speaker 5: ultimate goal. I work in healthcare and dermatology and to
- 32:25Speaker 5: get the trust of these patients who come in and
- 32:28Speaker 5: have to gawn up so I can scan their body
- 32:31Speaker 5: for skin cancer, make sure they're comfortable, help them love themselves.
- 32:35Speaker 5: I mean it's so rewarding.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Well good for you, I mean you definitely you can
- 32:41Speaker 3: tell you've I'd never have known you before, obviously, I
- 32:45Speaker 3: think I think we've had that once.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I think a long long time ago. But I was
- 32:48Speaker 2: I was going to say, you.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Know, it had to be so interesting because coming off
- 32:52Speaker 3: of that experience, I mean again, you were both groundbreaking
- 32:56Speaker 3: and everything you're doing as was Alex, and I think
- 32:59Speaker 3: you know, it's one of those things. It definitely made
- 33:02Speaker 3: the path for people who came after you that much easier,
- 33:04Speaker 3: but it didn't make it easier for you all going
- 33:06Speaker 3: through it, and so I can only imagine, you know,
- 33:09Speaker 3: I think, you know, good for you dealing with it
- 33:11Speaker 3: and taking it head on and turning it all into
- 33:13Speaker 3: a positive.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I mean, that's wonderful, you know, Tristan, I always laugh,
- 33:19Speaker 5: what did you think? Which this is a compliment because
- 33:22Speaker 5: I think it's a very flattering position to have had.
- 33:26Speaker 5: But with your degree and they listed you as a
- 33:28Speaker 5: Miami heat dancer versus having had you were.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Talking about how you were the sex spot. I'm like,
- 33:34Speaker 1: I was the dancer. That was me.
- 33:38Speaker 2: We were all one dimensional characters back then, you know.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I yeah, whatever, it was, what it was. I was like, yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 1: that's part of me. But I tried to talk about
- 33:49Speaker 1: being a physical therapist as much as possible and hope
- 33:52Speaker 1: that that was sick.
- 33:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It wasn't like we were, you know, creating websites or
- 33:59Speaker 1: having and Instagram you know, presence or whatever. So no,
- 34:04Speaker 1: it is interesting that they latch onto that kind of stuff.
- 34:07Speaker 1: But that's always I mean, it is in the end
- 34:10Speaker 1: it's a television show and they're trying to get people
- 34:12Speaker 1: to watch. And you know, even though I think it's
- 34:16Speaker 1: really cool to be smart and have other qualities of
- 34:20Speaker 1: all physicality.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Yes, yes, you can have brains and be hot.
- 34:27Speaker 3: You know, I think what a lot of people don't
- 34:28Speaker 3: realize is that's how I I originally captured Trista's heart
- 34:31Speaker 3: was I too was a dancer, and when I came
- 34:34Speaker 3: on the show, The Running Man, the Irish, both of
- 34:40Speaker 3: those moves, both of those moves, you know, really caught
- 34:43Speaker 3: her attention because of her dance background. So I mean
- 34:46Speaker 3: I could have come in, I could have come in
- 34:47Speaker 3: and like tried to do you know, some strengthening exercises
- 34:50Speaker 3: as a physical therapist, would also enjoy it.
- 34:52Speaker 2: But that I knew my way in, I knew it.
- 34:56Speaker 5: You were totally memorable, Darling.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Darling, you yeah, thank you, very very sweet, very sweet
- 35:05Speaker 3: to say that.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Well, thank you very much for being on the show
- 35:09Speaker 3: with us, and being a part of this. I mean,
- 35:11Speaker 3: you know, Tristan and I when we were first starting
- 35:13Speaker 3: this thing off, this is exactly what we wanted was
- 35:16Speaker 3: to have, you know, people who really were on it
- 35:19Speaker 3: in the very beginning who had these experiences and you know,
- 35:22Speaker 3: now it's a totally different beast, right, but back then
- 35:24Speaker 3: things were a little simpler, probably a little more complicated
- 35:27Speaker 3: in certain ways, I guess, just because of the fact
- 35:29Speaker 3: that we didn't know what we were getting into. But
- 35:31Speaker 3: it was such a pleasure having you on and thank
- 35:33Speaker 3: you for being a part of the show with us.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I love getting to see you both.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it was so nice, and I think it also
- 35:40Speaker 5: was really hopeful, like with Trista, to be able to
- 35:43Speaker 5: talk and kind of have closure about that time in
- 35:47Speaker 5: our life as well.
- 35:49Speaker 1: So nice that we're all doing great.
- 35:51Speaker 2: It's right, we are.
- 35:53Speaker 4: We are.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Congratulations on your family and your marriage and everything else.
- 35:57Speaker 3: And thank you again so much for joining us, and
- 35:59Speaker 3: have a one wonderful rest of your day.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Thank I got You're welcome. Take care, bye bye, oh bye.
- 36:09Speaker 2: That was awesome.
- 36:10Speaker 3: I love that. And you know, it did seem like
- 36:13Speaker 3: you guys got a chance to kind of connect on
- 36:15Speaker 3: some things that may have been you know, sticking points
- 36:18Speaker 3: for a while, right, Yeah.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I mean I wonder if you know, I mean, I
- 36:25Speaker 1: really don't ever think about Alex. I mean, it was
- 36:30Speaker 1: a long time ago and I have been happily married
- 36:34Speaker 1: for almost twenty years in a few months, so like,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I don't think about them. But when her name popped
- 36:41Speaker 1: up as as coming on the podcast, I was like, oh, well,
- 36:46Speaker 1: I wonder how this is gonna go Like does she
- 36:48Speaker 1: feel like for some reason? I think I think I
- 36:53Speaker 1: read about how you know, she blamed me for their breakup,
- 36:59Speaker 1: and obviously she's happily married and you know, a mother,
- 37:03Speaker 1: and you know, she has a whole different life, so
- 37:05Speaker 1: I would think that, you know, it wouldn't. Oh, she
- 37:11Speaker 1: just texted me big hugs to you and Bob oh awesome,
- 37:16Speaker 1: So I you know, I was I was like, oh gosh, like,
- 37:19Speaker 1: how is this going to go down? Is she gonna
- 37:22Speaker 1: you know, does she still like think that?
- 37:26Speaker 4: So?
- 37:26Speaker 3: I think she was probably saying she was thanking you
- 37:28Speaker 3: for their breakup. I'm just kidding, just kidding. That's that's
- 37:33Speaker 3: the kind of line I always throw out there, and
- 37:34Speaker 3: whenever someone brings up a Stella, I'm like, oh, trust me,
- 37:36Speaker 3: she's lucky she got away from this disaster. But no,
- 37:38Speaker 3: I feel like, you know, I think, like time in
- 37:43Speaker 3: space from anything gives you such a different perspective in life, right,
- 37:47Speaker 3: I mean, here we are. You know, you and I.
- 37:49Speaker 3: I mean, I always knew we'd be friends forever. I
- 37:52Speaker 3: knew that from the second we met. But it's one
- 37:54Speaker 3: of those things like you look at you look at
- 37:56Speaker 3: this history, and a lot of people, you know, didn't
- 37:59Speaker 3: didn't get the type of treatment that you and I
- 38:02Speaker 3: both got from Bachelor Nation and everything else.
- 38:05Speaker 2: A lot of people went.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Through different experiences, and so they almost like separate themselves
- 38:09Speaker 3: as far as they can from the whole experience. And
- 38:11Speaker 3: and I think, you know, that's that's something that you know,
- 38:14Speaker 3: she kind of went through it, and she was the winner,
- 38:16Speaker 3: so to speak. And then it's like, you know, and
- 38:18Speaker 3: she's also the one that's maybe in a relationship that
- 38:20Speaker 3: isn't what she wants, but she feels like the pressure she.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Has to stay in it and all that kind of stuff.
- 38:25Speaker 3: I mean, I wish I would have even asked her that,
- 38:26Speaker 3: but I just feel like it's one of those things
- 38:28Speaker 3: that I think she seems like a really I meant
- 38:31Speaker 3: what I said, like, she seems like she's definitely dealt
- 38:33Speaker 3: with not just this, but with everything.
- 38:36Speaker 1: You know, you're right, because that's hard, like being on
- 38:39Speaker 1: the first show and having to come out, and she
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, she kind of alluded to the fact that
- 38:43Speaker 1: she was they were ghosted, you know, they they were
- 38:47Speaker 1: just Okay, you guys go on about your happy life
- 38:50Speaker 1: and we're going to continue to do stuff. And she
- 38:52Speaker 1: didn't feel supported. So that's hard, especially with getting kind
- 38:57Speaker 1: of not kind of but bullied like on you know,
- 39:03Speaker 1: on the internet through the message boards. Anyway, we gotta go,
- 39:06Speaker 1: we gotta wrap. Thank you everybody for listening in. We
- 39:09Speaker 1: love our AFO G podcast And until next time. He's
- 39:15Speaker 1: Bob Guiney.
- 39:16Speaker 2: She is Trista Sutter nay Wren. Hi, everybody, he's out.
