- 2:50news, Massachusetts has joined several insurers
- 2:54in cutting coverage for popular weight loss drugs,
- 2:57following a vote by the Massachusetts Group Insurance
- 3:00Commission to end coverage of GLP -1 medications
- 3:03for weight loss, which affects over 460 ,000
- 3:08state employees. This decision, prompted by soaring
- 3:11costs that strain the state budget, was made
- 3:14in a 10 -7 vote last Thursday, with concerns
- 3:17raised about potential health disparities and
- 3:20increased costs for those with chronic conditions.
- 3:24Currently, approximately 22 ,000 members take
- 3:27these medications, costing the state around $46
- 3:30million annually. The move is part of a broader
- 3:34strategy to leverage market power against drugmakers.
- 3:37as emphasized by Dana Sullivan, the board's designee
- 3:41from the Executive Office for Administration
- 3:43and Finance. Now on to sports. The 2026 NFL Combine
- 3:54wrapped up on Sunday from Indianapolis, marking
- 3:58the official transition of college football players
- 4:00to the NFL. While attention focused on testing
- 4:04numbers impacting the NFL draft in Pittsburgh,
- 4:07there were notable insights from a college football
- 4:10perspective. Several underperforming teams cannot
- 4:14blame a lack of talent, as players like Penn
- 4:17State defensive tackle Zane Durant showcased
- 4:20impressive skills. Florida's Caleb Banks emerged
- 4:24as a potential first round pick, further indicating
- 4:27that coaching changes, rather than player performance,
- 4:30may explain underachievement. Overall, the combine
- 4:34highlighted a growing talent dispersal across
- 4:37college football. In local sports, Peyton Pritchard
- 4:41scored 25 points and rookie Hugo González had
- 4:45career highs of 18 points and 16 rebounds as
- 4:49the Celtics beat the Bucs 108 to 81 on Monday
- 4:53night. This victory spoiled Giannis Entadacampo's
- 4:57return from a right calf strain. as he contributed
- 5:0119 points and 11 rebounds in 25 minutes of play.
- 5:06Boston has now won 3 straight and 7 of 8, as
- 5:09they dominated with a 24 -5 run in the first
- 5:13half, ultimately maintaining control throughout
- 5:15the game. Next up, the Celtics will host Charlotte
- 5:19on Wednesday. In top news, HBO Max and Paramount
- 5:26Plus will become one streaming service. Paramount
- 5:30states the streamers will merge, while HBO will
- 5:33remain independent. Paramount CDO David Ellison
- 5:38indicated that combining the services may lead
- 5:41to better deals for viewers. He mentioned we
- 5:44plan to put the two services together, giving
- 5:47us over 200 million direct -to -consumer subscribers.
- 5:51The average United States household subscribes
- 5:54to four streaming services, paying an average
- 5:57of $69 per month. Helleson emphasized that HBO
- 6:01should stay HBO, preserving its strong brand.
- 6:06The combined company is expected to have a staggering
- 6:09$79 billion in debt. In business news, the economy
- 6:15looks great on paper, but this split in consumer
- 6:18mood could spell trouble. Recession is more likely
- 6:22when consumers feel gloomy about the economy
- 6:25and their own finances. Recent improvements in
- 6:29American consumer sentiment are not as positive
- 6:31as they seem. The Conference Board's Consumer
- 6:35Confidence Index increased 2 .2 points in February
- 6:38to 91 .2. The University of Michigan's Index
- 6:43of Consumer Sentiment rose to 56 .6. A widening
- 6:48spread between these indicators often signals
- 6:50an impending recession. Recent improvements in
- 6:54sentiment readings are not universally positive.
- 6:58In crypto movement, Bitcoin is up 2 .5 % to about
- 7:03$68 ,000. Ethereum is up 2 % to $2 ,000. And
- 7:10XRP is up 1 % to $1 .38. Moving on to a more
- 7:17local vibe. In our community spotlight on health

- 8:01back to the show. Let's talk tech. Apple might
- 8:06use Google servers to store data for its upgraded
- 8:09AI Siri. Apple may be leaning more on Google
- 8:13as it tries to catch up in artificial intelligence.
- 8:17Apple has asked Google to explore setting up
- 8:20servers for a new version of Siri that is powered
- 8:23by Gemini and meets Apple's privacy requirements.
- 8:27Apple announced in January that Google's Gemini
- 8:30AI models would help power the upgraded Siri,
- 8:33which was delayed last year. The original partnership
- 8:37stated that the next generation of Apple Foundation
- 8:40models will be based on Google's Gemini models
- 8:43and cloud technology. While this noted that Apple
- 8:47Intelligence would continue to run on Apple devices
- 8:50and private cloud compute, it did not specify
- 8:53if the new Siri would run on Google's cloud.
- 8:59And in entertainment news, the Justice Department's
- 9:03endeavor to break up Live Nation, Ticketmaster's
- 9:06parent company, has officially made its way to
- 9:08the courtroom. The antitrust case began with
- 9:12jury selection on March 2nd. in federal court
- 9:15in New York. Opening statements are scheduled
- 9:18to start Tuesday, with the trial expected to
- 9:21last six weeks. The lawsuit filed in 2024 alleges
- 9:26that Live Nation has illegally dominated the
- 9:29live concert industry by monopolizing ticketing
- 9:32and concert booking. Live Nation directly manages
- 9:36more than 400 musical artists and controls around
- 9:4080 % of major concert venues' ticketing. Well,
- 9:45alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the
