Think about how much you desire recognition. Imagine working tirelessly for a good cause, benefiting others greatly, and receiving no acknowledgment. Ideally, you'd find joy in serving and in knowing that God alone sees your charity. When God acknowledges our selfless service, it's a reward in itself. Strive to serve humbly and quietly, seeking eternal rewards, which far surpass the fleeting rewards of vanity.
