- 1:41Speaker 3: And I don't know if it's just the weather or what,
- 1:44Speaker 3: but does this seem like it's been the longest week
- 1:46Speaker 3: in history? It does to me. Coming up a little
- 1:49Speaker 3: bit later on the show, the Southern West Virginia Toy Ride, Folks,
- 1:51Speaker 3: you're going to stop by. This is big an annual
- 1:53Speaker 3: event where a whole lot of motorcycle riders from Charleston
- 1:56Speaker 3: and the surrounding areas go on a big ride to
- 1:58Speaker 3: collect toys for kids to Christmas, happening December the twentieth.
- 2:02Speaker 3: The meet up is Daniel Boone Park and the ride
- 2:04Speaker 3: will go to Women's and Children from there. There are
- 2:07Speaker 3: several drop off locations around the valley a ton of fact,
- 2:10Speaker 3: and they've already been collecting toys at those venues, which
- 2:13Speaker 3: we'll go over all those a little bit later. They've
- 2:15Speaker 3: actually been doing that since first and November, I understand.
- 2:17Speaker 3: So they're going to wrap up the drop off spots
- 2:19Speaker 3: to get ready for the right. We'll talk about it
- 2:20Speaker 3: with them coming up a little bit later on Plus
- 2:22Speaker 3: on the show yesterday and all the promos, I promise
- 2:25Speaker 3: you I was going to have the return of a
- 2:27Speaker 3: radio legend to the airwaves here in Charleston, West Virginia.
- 2:31Speaker 3: The laugh may sound familiar, ladies and gentlemen formerly of
- 2:35Speaker 3: another station, just hanging out with us for the day.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Would you please make welcome Coach Kid, buddy, good morning,
- 2:41Speaker 3: how are you doing good?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Let's let's let's ease up on the legends. Come on,
- 2:44Speaker 4: come on, let's back that down.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Come on. Coach Kid, of course, is very well known
- 2:51Speaker 3: personality in the Charleston market for a number of years,
- 2:54Speaker 3: stepped away from radio to go do something else, and
- 2:56Speaker 3: he's back with us today.
- 2:57Speaker 4: And by the way, I'm not sure or what that
- 3:00Speaker 4: something else is yet I've stepped away. I just don't
- 3:04Speaker 4: know what. He's just something else.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So Coach Kid and I are going to talk about something.
- 3:07Speaker 3: He's actually got a project totally outside radio and out
- 3:11Speaker 3: that he's very passionate about. And so that's why I
- 3:13Speaker 3: really brought him on the show. But then when I
- 3:15Speaker 3: found out that he had a little extra time this one,
- 3:17Speaker 3: I said, won't you just come on early, buddy, I'm
- 3:19Speaker 3: off today, So here he is. We're gonna explain all
- 3:21Speaker 3: that coming up a little bit later on. Plus, your
- 3:23Speaker 3: calls and texts are always welcome. Big Lee Pigley Wiggley
- 3:25Speaker 3: Hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine three five
- 3:31Speaker 3: five zero zero eight. Let's welcome in now, Angie Gillan
- 3:33Speaker 3: water from the Canoil Charleston. You've made association with this
- 3:36Speaker 3: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week and as always,
- 3:38Speaker 3: our pets pictures posted to Dave Aland Radio and Facebook
- 3:41Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on X Angie, good morning
- 3:44Speaker 3: and welcome to the show.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Good morning. It's it's very cold and very hard to
- 3:49Speaker 5: get out of bed.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I got you. I gotta say. I texted you
- 3:53Speaker 3: this morning and I said, oh, by the way, I said,
- 3:56Speaker 3: I'm going to have a coach kid formerly from another
- 3:59Speaker 3: company here on the radio. And you said, here's the quote.
- 4:03Speaker 3: How exciting the sound of my teen years?
- 4:05Speaker 6: Wow?
- 4:06Speaker 4: Wow, Angie, it's a pleasure talking to you.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Oh, I'm very excited. I've been waiting on this phone
- 4:12Speaker 5: call morning.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Angie.
- 4:16Speaker 3: You know I'm here too, right, Yeah, yeah, we've got
- 4:18Speaker 3: the host of the show. Yeah, okay, I'm just old news.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I guess all right. So, as always, we have our picture,
- 4:26Speaker 3: our pitts picture posted over Dave Island Radio on Facebook,
- 4:29Speaker 3: the WHS network Facebook page and at Dave seventy on X.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I want you to tell us the story of Twinkle Toes.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Twinkle So Twinkle Toes, contrary to his name, is a
- 4:42Speaker 5: very very large dog. He's about sixty town. Something about
- 4:46Speaker 5: naming these giant dogs very petite names just tickles me.
- 4:51Speaker 5: But he is very sweet. He's very mannerly. He's about
- 4:55Speaker 5: like six years old. We assume so he's got all
- 4:59Speaker 5: that puppy energy out. All he wants to do now
- 5:01Speaker 5: is just lay on the couch and stay warm. But yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 5: he's extremely housebroken. You will not have any accidents in
- 5:10Speaker 5: your house with this dog, and if you do, think
- 5:14Speaker 5: about taking him home. He's great with kids. He probably
- 5:17Speaker 5: needs to be the only pet in your home or
- 5:19Speaker 5: you need to have female dogs. He is very much
- 5:21Speaker 5: a lady man.
- 5:26Speaker 3: More like the part about wanting to dis lay around, Okay,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I want to. I want to spend a little time
- 5:32Speaker 3: talking Angie about fostering pets from the shelters, because I
- 5:35Speaker 3: feel like sometimes we don't spend enough time about the
- 5:37Speaker 3: importance of fostering.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Talk about that.
- 5:39Speaker 5: So fostering, I'm the foster for our shelter and it's
- 5:42Speaker 5: one of my favorite things that I do for the shelter.
- 5:45Speaker 5: You get temporary pet ownership, so whether it's for a night,
- 5:48Speaker 5: a weekend, a couple months until the pet gets adopted,
- 5:52Speaker 5: you get to have that pet in your home. We
- 5:54Speaker 5: learn a lot of information about them in a home
- 5:56Speaker 5: setting that we don't get to see at the shelter,
- 5:59Speaker 5: which increases their adoptability. Pictures of them like in a
- 6:02Speaker 5: home rather than surrounded by concrete walls. Also increases their adoptability,
- 6:08Speaker 5: and also it greatly greatly improves their mental health. And
- 6:12Speaker 5: the other good thing about fostering is it's free. We
- 6:14Speaker 5: provide any supply that you might need, including back care
- 6:17Speaker 5: for the foster pets.
- 6:19Speaker 4: It's great.
- 6:19Speaker 3: It's a great program. And I know several of my
- 6:21Speaker 3: friends that do that and will foster dogs and cats,
- 6:24Speaker 3: and then they love it and it's a very very
- 6:26Speaker 3: important part of the of the process too. Also, I
- 6:29Speaker 3: love the fact that on your social media you have
- 6:31Speaker 3: some dogs up for adoption, Angie, that you have divided
- 6:34Speaker 3: them into different categories, cat tolerant, loves kids, never met
- 6:38Speaker 3: a stranger, et cetera. I noticed that this morning. That's
- 6:40Speaker 3: a pretty good idea to do it that way.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Yeah, because there are a lot of people in our comments,
- 6:44Speaker 5: we try to listen to the community and what they're
- 6:46Speaker 5: looking for, and a lot of people will comment these
- 6:48Speaker 5: specific traits. So to make it easier, we will, I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 5: we will lay it right out for you. We want
- 6:54Speaker 5: these dogs into homes and out of the shelter, so
- 6:57Speaker 5: we're trying to make it as easy as possible. I'm
- 7:00Speaker 5: pretty similar to online shopping, just add it to car
- 7:02Speaker 5: and check out.
- 7:04Speaker 4: And you when when when the pet has adopted Let
- 7:07Speaker 4: me go back to that a second, When when the
- 7:10Speaker 4: pet has adopted for foster? Is it a better chance
- 7:13Speaker 4: for the pet to get adopted than rather being in
- 7:15Speaker 4: the kennel itself? I mean, I know you said, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 4: taking pictures like that. Do the owners that foster him,
- 7:21Speaker 4: do they do they actually get to to hold on
- 7:24Speaker 4: to him? And do they end up adopting him rather
- 7:27Speaker 4: than giving him to someone else?
- 7:29Speaker 5: So I will say, if it's your first time fostering,
- 7:32Speaker 5: usually they will foster fail. But we do have a
- 7:36Speaker 5: pretty strong community I said. I'll say strong as in
- 7:38Speaker 5: they don't give into to adopting their foster pets, but
- 7:41Speaker 5: a pretty big community of those foster parents that their
- 7:44Speaker 5: sole purpose is fostering. And should they what we call
- 7:48Speaker 5: foster fail and adopt their foster pet, they can't foster more.
- 7:52Speaker 5: So I would say, if it's your first time fostering,
- 7:55Speaker 5: you're probably gonna end up keeping.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I don't know that I could ever do that or
- 8:00Speaker 3: that exact reason, because once I bring you in your mind,
- 8:04Speaker 3: oh yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 4: That, and and the love grows, you start to get
- 8:07Speaker 4: to know the pet a little bit more, because my
- 8:09Speaker 4: family's actually thought about it before, I know, just thought
- 8:12Speaker 4: about it. But at the same time, I'm like, I
- 8:14Speaker 4: don't think I could return this animal. Once I start
- 8:16Speaker 4: to love on it, understand its personality, get to get
- 8:20Speaker 4: to love on it a little bit more, sleep with
- 8:21Speaker 4: you and all that kind of stuff. I don't think
- 8:23Speaker 4: that pet's going back there. He's gonna stay right here.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Oddly enough, the same thing that Coach's wife.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Says, Yeah, I think he's gonna stay right We have.
- 8:31Speaker 3: A text here for you and Gie. So do the
- 8:32Speaker 3: animals suffer separation anxiety once again after returning to the
- 8:36Speaker 3: shelter from their foster family.
- 8:39Speaker 5: I would say, and this is actually proven. There are
- 8:42Speaker 5: research studies about this.
- 8:44Speaker 7: Uh.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Their stress levels do not increase upon returning to the shelter.
- 8:49Speaker 5: They if anything, they just return to normal levels. But
- 8:52Speaker 5: upon returning from a foster home, especially like overnight trips,
- 8:56Speaker 5: stress levels do not increase upon returning to the shelter.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Important to note talk with Angie gilben Water with this
- 9:02Speaker 3: week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. The Day
- 9:03Speaker 3: Island Show in five eighty Live brought to you in
- 9:05Speaker 3: part by Hustin's Pizza Gets The Hustin's Homedy pack a
- 9:08Speaker 3: large Eten Nitch Pepperoni pizza, ten bread stick, twelve hot wings,
- 9:11Speaker 3: and a two looter bottle PEPSI only thirty three ninety nine.
- 9:14Speaker 3: You guys out at about anywhere this weekend? I think
- 9:16Speaker 3: I saw that you got an event going on with
- 9:17Speaker 3: some other shelters over in my neck of the woods
- 9:20Speaker 3: or in Tays Valley. Is that right?
- 9:21Speaker 5: Oh? Yeah, we have a huge adoption event with Best
- 9:25Speaker 5: Friends Animal Society. It's at Valley Park, one Valley Park Drive.
- 9:30Speaker 5: So many shelters are going to be there with so
- 9:32Speaker 5: many adoptable pets. And this is if we get, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 5: three feet of snow, we're still going to be there.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Nice. What time is the event? I mean, maybe that'll
- 9:41Speaker 3: help you out, but what time is the event?
- 9:43Speaker 5: So we're starting We will be there with pets getting
- 9:46Speaker 5: set up at ten am. So if you roll through
- 9:48Speaker 5: at ten, we'll likely show you some animals and we're
- 9:51Speaker 5: going to be there until five.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Pus okay, because I think you should be okay early on.
- 9:55Speaker 3: From what the weather folks are saying, it's probably going
- 9:57Speaker 3: to hit night, probably mid afternoon or something like this.
- 9:59Speaker 3: You may have to cut a little bit short, but
- 10:00Speaker 3: I think at ten o'clock, ten eleven o'clock, I think
- 10:02Speaker 3: you should be in pretty good shape. And it would
- 10:04Speaker 3: be a great day to be there because there's going
- 10:06Speaker 3: to be so many people in a hurricane for the
- 10:08Speaker 3: Christmas parade tomorrow, so you're gonna have a lot of
- 10:10Speaker 3: that traffic rolling through there.
- 10:12Speaker 5: We're hoping so this is an outside event, so we're
- 10:14Speaker 5: hoping every one adops these dogs so we don't have
- 10:17Speaker 5: to sit in the cold the dog.
- 10:19Speaker 3: And speaking and speaking of cold, it is going to
- 10:21Speaker 3: be bitterly cold starting Saturday night really through early Tuesday morning.
- 10:25Speaker 3: You shouldn't have to remind people of this, Angie, but
- 10:27Speaker 3: please please make arrangements for your outside pets and some dogs.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I know people will say, well, my dog loves it
- 10:33Speaker 3: and they're bread for it, and that may be the case,
- 10:35Speaker 3: but the reality is the majority of animals are not
- 10:38Speaker 3: bred for it, and despite what they may have told you,
- 10:42Speaker 3: they really don't want to be outside.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Absolutely, if your dog is, you know, bread for the
- 10:48Speaker 5: cold temperatures and it is an outside pet, that's great,
- 10:51Speaker 5: that's fine. Just please make sure that you have the
- 10:53Speaker 5: proper shelter in place, straw instead of blankets or any
- 10:58Speaker 5: type of soft material that the area that you have
- 11:01Speaker 5: them for housing is covered with. You have three walls,
- 11:05Speaker 5: windshield and make sure that water bowls are not frozen.
- 11:09Speaker 5: But yeah, Usetiorka is a fan of the snow. I
- 11:11Speaker 5: have one like that. Great, but please make sure those
- 11:14Speaker 5: are there. Yeah, in the events that they don't want
- 11:17Speaker 5: to be outside anymore.
- 11:19Speaker 3: We had a texture. So is there any particular donation
- 11:21Speaker 3: item you need to protect the pawpads from frostbite outside?
- 11:26Speaker 5: So we actually do pet safe pet safe salt that
- 11:30Speaker 5: we put down ice melt. We have that on our
- 11:33Speaker 5: wish list on Amazon, which you can see on our
- 11:35Speaker 5: Facebook page. But that is the precaution that we take
- 11:39Speaker 5: just because we do not have enough little tiny booty
- 11:41Speaker 5: to put on all the eggs the Seltzer does.
- 11:45Speaker 3: I didn't know that was the thing. So they make
- 11:46Speaker 3: pets safe salt. I was unaware of that.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Yep, they do, and they sell it anywhere you can
- 11:51Speaker 5: get pet supplies.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Well, there you go.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Well, Angie, before you go, I want to let you
- 11:55Speaker 4: know thanks for being on the program. And we have
- 11:57Speaker 4: an eight track cassette coming your way with Turkey time
- 12:00Speaker 4: on it for you. Okay.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Oh, yes, I saw somebody posted that video the other
- 12:07Speaker 3: day of that.
- 12:08Speaker 4: All right, we only could get it in eight tracks.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I'm interested in the fact you said it's an eight
- 12:13Speaker 3: track cassette.
- 12:16Speaker 4: It could be both Buddy psychology marright.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Oh and also another text where you, Angie, somebody said,
- 12:21Speaker 3: don't forget about those strays too, because every neighborhood probably
- 12:23Speaker 3: gets some strays out there. If you, if you're so inclined,
- 12:26Speaker 3: make a make a place for the strays outside too.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Absolutely, our shelter is busting at the seams right now.
- 12:33Speaker 5: But also give us a call and we will do
- 12:35Speaker 5: what we can to assist you with those strays as well.
- 12:37Speaker 3: All right, Angie Gillenwater Kanal Charleston. You main association with
- 12:41Speaker 3: our check in this week. I appreciate you being here
- 12:43Speaker 3: and I'm glad I was made able to make your
- 12:45Speaker 3: dream come true and getting to talk to talk to
- 12:47Speaker 3: Coach Kid on the air. I'm sorry, but next week
- 12:51Speaker 3: you're just gonna have to deal.
- 12:52Speaker 4: With just me.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Is that okay?
- 12:53Speaker 5: I guess that's fine.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I know. You gotta take the good with the
- 12:57Speaker 4: bad engine and you appreciate it.
- 12:59Speaker 3: We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot. To talk to you
- 13:01Speaker 3: next week.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Thank you have a good one.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Do you want to remind you that they are out
- 13:03Speaker 3: at Valley Park tomorrow So it would be a good
- 13:05Speaker 3: opportunity if you're heading to the Hurricane Christmas Parade to
- 13:07Speaker 3: swing on in there. It's a huge adoption event. All
- 13:09Speaker 3: of these different shelters are going to be there together,
- 13:12Speaker 3: so coach would be a good time for people stop by.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Absolutely, It's what a great organization, and and and and
- 13:17Speaker 4: all that. Again, we've got our pet from from there
- 13:19Speaker 4: as well. It's I got to be honest with you,
- 13:21Speaker 4: it's very difficult to go in there.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I have never been in there. Yeah, and as much
- 13:25Speaker 3: as I love the people up there, I have never
- 13:28Speaker 3: set foot inside the shelter.
- 13:30Speaker 8: Now.
- 13:30Speaker 3: My wife and I the first cat we ever adopted,
- 13:33Speaker 3: she went and got it, and I said, well, why
- 13:36Speaker 3: don't you just go again? And did you come home
- 13:38Speaker 3: with it with a cat? And she did. The two
- 13:40Speaker 3: we have now just showed up at strays on our eyes.
- 13:43Speaker 3: So you just.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Adopted them, took them in, they adopted us.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I got you, yeah, both of them.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember I'm in a quick story. I met
- 13:49Speaker 4: my wife there at the shelves. Yeah, she wasn't behind
- 13:54Speaker 4: the cage, but I wasn't doing a Halloween thing there.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I was broadcasting you do it a Halloween thing there,
- 14:00Speaker 4: and we were kind of talking. But she came out
- 14:02Speaker 4: and we really got That's when we got to see
- 14:04Speaker 4: each other. She was looking at cats with their little daughter, Emma,
- 14:08Speaker 4: And now we're married. Emma's eighteen years old. Oh so
- 14:11Speaker 4: there you go.
- 14:12Speaker 3: There's so many spae and neuter jokes going there, but
- 14:15Speaker 3: I'm not going to do that.
- 14:17Speaker 4: That wasn't until after we got married.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Okay, all right, So our dog this week, our adopt
- 14:23Speaker 3: me please put of the week picture posted at Dave
- 14:25Speaker 3: Allen Radio and Facebook and also the WCHS Network Facebook
- 14:28Speaker 3: page and at DABASE. Seventy on x twinkle toes around
- 14:32Speaker 3: sixty pounds, around six years old. Hug Job probably needs
- 14:35Speaker 3: to be the only dog, but seem to be okay
- 14:37Speaker 3: with female dogs and a Qutie too. Very good black
- 14:40Speaker 3: and white dog. It's a classic black and white dogs.
- 14:42Speaker 3: If you're looking for a dog, go check it out,
- 14:44Speaker 3: and go check out Angie and folks with all these
- 14:46Speaker 3: different shelters. They'll be at Valley Park in Hurrican tomorrow.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It's nine twenty two The Dave Allen Show and five
- 14:50Speaker 3: of DY Live is brought to you part by Morgan

- 16:58Speaker 3: Okay, why not?
- 16:59Speaker 4: No, because I'm I'm just coach.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:02Speaker 4: And the funny thing is, I'm gonna blow you away here.
- 17:05Speaker 4: That's not even my real name. What coaches not coach
- 17:08Speaker 4: is not your I know it blows a lot of
- 17:10Speaker 4: people away. They're like, my real name is milburn Sminia.
- 17:13Speaker 4: It was just hard to spell.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I got so it was. I thought it might be like, uh,
- 17:17Speaker 3: coach delicious or something like that.
- 17:19Speaker 4: No, that's that's now.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Don't don't, don't don't. We're we're working. We're working on
- 17:25Speaker 3: a project here. Coach, don't don't, don't don't. Don't blow
- 17:28Speaker 3: it out? Okay, okay, buddy, coach kid is with us
- 17:31Speaker 3: as well.
- 17:31Speaker 4: I don't be in here. I don't know why you
- 17:34Speaker 4: thought this would be a good idea. You need to
- 17:36Speaker 4: rethink things, dude. I know a whole lot of things. Yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 4: I really do.
- 17:41Speaker 3: All right, save us folks, if you will. We'll get
- 17:43Speaker 3: to the folks from the southern West Virginia toy Ride
- 17:46Speaker 3: here just introduced us. If you will introduce yourselves to us,
- 17:49Speaker 3: if you will.
- 17:50Speaker 7: Please, I'm Corey Mohawk Kinkle. I'm the founder of the
- 17:53Speaker 7: toy Ride for women's shown his hospital.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Okay, and his daughter. Okay, but that microphone down there
- 17:58Speaker 3: a little bit. It's all right, it's all good. It's
- 18:00Speaker 3: all good. And you are known as Giggles.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I don't believe it.
- 18:04Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, not at all. All right, So
- 18:09Speaker 3: let's talk about this ride. How many years this thing
- 18:11Speaker 3: been going to How many years this thing been going on?
- 18:14Speaker 3: Twelve years? And were you there from the very beginning
- 18:17Speaker 3: in this quarry? Were you there from the very beginning.
- 18:19Speaker 7: Yeah, she was in the hospital when she was three
- 18:21Speaker 7: years old at Women's Chordren's with the upper respiratory infection,
- 18:26Speaker 7: and it kind of just took off from there. What
- 18:29Speaker 7: happened was there's a playroom up there at the fifth
- 18:31Speaker 7: floor at Women's Children. So a lot of stuff is
- 18:34Speaker 7: broke missing DVD players the hospital, the kids' rooms up
- 18:37Speaker 7: there on the fifth floor and throughout some of the
- 18:39Speaker 7: rest of the hospital. There they got DVD players. You
- 18:42Speaker 7: put xboxes on a cart and wiel it to the
- 18:44Speaker 7: room and the kids can play games and stuff like
- 18:46Speaker 7: that while they're in there, just something to give them
- 18:48Speaker 7: something to do while they're in there not knowing what
- 18:50Speaker 7: exactly is going on with the MO they're getting test
- 18:52Speaker 7: run and everything on them.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've had you guys on the show for
- 18:54Speaker 3: the last couple of years to talk about this big
- 18:56Speaker 3: event and then it's going to be on It's gonna
- 18:57Speaker 3: be December twentieth. But you've been collecting toys up till
- 19:00Speaker 3: that point. But this is this is personal for you
- 19:02Speaker 3: and your families. Yes, yeah, yeah, I mean take us
- 19:05Speaker 3: back through. I mean I don't want to, you know,
- 19:08Speaker 3: like dig up any bad memories anything, but obviously it
- 19:11Speaker 3: left an impression on you, Corey, or you wouldn't be
- 19:14Speaker 3: doing that what you're doing. Now, take us back through
- 19:16Speaker 3: those days with your daughter.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Really, it started out she was in there. She was
- 19:20Speaker 7: in there like any other kid that was in the hospital,
- 19:22Speaker 7: don't know what's going on, scared have everything hooked up
- 19:25Speaker 7: to her test being run, trying to figure out what
- 19:27Speaker 7: was going on.
- 19:28Speaker 3: She was in there for several days.
- 19:31Speaker 7: And then we got to talking after we've seen the
- 19:33Speaker 7: playroom originally started out with the lady by the name
- 19:37Speaker 7: of Christy Bissett, and we started working with her in
- 19:40Speaker 7: the beginning of this, but now the lady we work
- 19:42Speaker 7: with is Summer Right Women's Children's. It's just something good
- 19:47Speaker 7: to do. I guess you could say give back to
- 19:49Speaker 7: the community. You always got people saying do this or
- 19:52Speaker 7: do that, but in the end, you really don't know
- 19:55Speaker 7: who you're helping out when you're just going and donating something,
- 19:58Speaker 7: or where it's going. If you don't, if it's going
- 20:00Speaker 7: on a shelf with the price tag on it, and
- 20:02Speaker 7: this you actually get to see it go straight to
- 20:04Speaker 7: the hospital and kids wake up Christmas Morning with toys
- 20:07Speaker 7: and they get given out throughout the rest of the year.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Yeah. And that's the thing that I think a lot
- 20:12Speaker 4: of people misinterpret as well, is that you have no
- 20:15Speaker 4: idea where anything's going, and you have first look, yes,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and you're right there, and like this is going there,
- 20:20Speaker 4: this is going there, This is perfect.
- 20:23Speaker 7: One hundred percent of the toys stay here local. They
- 20:25Speaker 7: don't go out of the state of West Virginia, they
- 20:27Speaker 7: don't go out of Charleston area. They stay here and
- 20:29Speaker 7: go to the kids at the hospital Christmas morning, and
- 20:31Speaker 7: throughout the rest of the year. Over the years, we've
- 20:35Speaker 7: had businesses donate tablets some of the kids. If you
- 20:39Speaker 7: go to the pre off room that are having surgery
- 20:41Speaker 7: and stuff like that, sometimes they'll bring a tablet out
- 20:43Speaker 7: for the kids to play games on or do something
- 20:45Speaker 7: before they go in to have surgery. That's been donated
- 20:48Speaker 7: over the years from this event, and there's a lot
- 20:50Speaker 7: of stuff that goes on.
- 20:51Speaker 4: I would also imagine that you would want for the
- 20:54Speaker 4: kids that are in the hospital too, as you've seen
- 20:58Speaker 4: any time they're in the hospital. Number One, importantly they're
- 21:00Speaker 4: not home. No, so exactly, you want a little bit
- 21:04Speaker 4: of a normalcy when it comes to Christmas Morning or
- 21:06Speaker 4: just activities that happened because they've been there for so long.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Yeah, they have no clue what's going on with them.
- 21:11Speaker 7: All they know is they see all these machines going off. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 7: and you know, it's got to make them feel uncomfortable because,
- 21:18Speaker 7: like you said, they ain't at home.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Most of the time.
- 21:22Speaker 7: When they're not at home, Santa's kids, they want to
- 21:25Speaker 7: know how Santa's going to get there too.
- 21:27Speaker 3: You know.
- 21:27Speaker 7: Wow, we got a guy that dresses up to Santa
- 21:30Speaker 7: every year. He's done it for twelve years now.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Jimbo.
- 21:35Speaker 7: He goes by lock Tight, he dresses up to Santa
- 21:37Speaker 7: and rides a bike and he leads us to Women's
- 21:39Speaker 7: Children's Hospital.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And the visual I have seen that in the past,
- 21:43Speaker 3: because our sister station ninety eight seven a month is
- 21:45Speaker 3: usually a big part of this, and I've seen that
- 21:46Speaker 3: visual in the past of those motorcycles rolling into Women's
- 21:50Speaker 3: and children led by Santa Claus and the kids maybe
- 21:53Speaker 3: at the windows or so on. You've got kids in
- 21:55Speaker 3: the windows waving at us.
- 21:56Speaker 7: You got kids holding signs up and then before we leave,
- 21:59Speaker 7: we go up with a few of us, will go
- 22:01Speaker 7: up with Santa and he'll pass out toys to a
- 22:04Speaker 7: few of the kids up there, so they actually get
- 22:06Speaker 7: to see Santa before we leave, and some of them
- 22:10Speaker 7: actually get to get something from Santa before we leave
- 22:12Speaker 7: that day.
- 22:13Speaker 3: And again this is happening on December twentieth. The ride
- 22:15Speaker 3: is but you've been collecting things really, I think since
- 22:18Speaker 3: the first of November, and to'll be doing that through
- 22:20Speaker 3: the weekend. There's so many places here. I just mentioned
- 22:22Speaker 3: a few of them. Gunnies, Bar and Grill and Nitro,
- 22:24Speaker 3: Blizzard's custom Cycles, Generation's Barbershop at South Charleston, Red Lobster,
- 22:29Speaker 3: Elk River Bar and Grill See Adam Tony Tire, Fifth Third,
- 22:32Speaker 3: Bank Town and Country Lanes, twenty one Pool Room in Cissonville,
- 22:35Speaker 3: Reads Barbershop at South Charleston, Gresham Plumbing, Swamp Fox Tavern,
- 22:40Speaker 3: Johnson Controls O'Reilly's Auto Parts across Lanes, Smith's Grocery Store.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Now if you Family Dollar Stores and Dunbar, Cross Lanes, Kanas, City, Marmette,
- 22:49Speaker 3: South Charleston and Charleston, I mean, all these businesses are
- 22:52Speaker 3: stepping up. And these are businesses guys that don't have
- 22:55Speaker 3: to do this. No, they don't have to.
- 22:56Speaker 7: They I get ahold of them to be in of
- 22:58Speaker 7: this starting in October, call to make sure that they
- 23:00Speaker 7: want to do it again this year. And usually I
- 23:03Speaker 7: speak with the general managers or district managers for Dollar
- 23:07Speaker 7: General and Family Dollars and stuff like that, and they
- 23:09Speaker 7: put all their stores on.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Board for it.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Is there anything particular that maybe for next year obviously
- 23:15Speaker 4: that you really are wanting or needing A short of.
- 23:22Speaker 3: DVDs?
- 23:23Speaker 4: Okay, wow, DVDs.
- 23:26Speaker 7: That's a shortage, yeah, because a lot of the DVDs
- 23:29Speaker 7: if you go up to the hospital. In the playroom,
- 23:31Speaker 7: they got a wall there that's nothing but like a
- 23:33Speaker 7: bookcase of DVDs and you open them.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Up and a lot of them are missing, missing, scratch
- 23:38Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 7: Interesting, And those kids and the kids in the room
- 23:42Speaker 7: up there on the fifth floor, they got TVs and
- 23:44Speaker 7: DVD players mounted to the walls so they can actually
- 23:47Speaker 7: watch cartoon movies or they can watch movie with their
- 23:50Speaker 7: family or something, just like they're at home, like you said.
- 23:52Speaker 4: And that should be easy to find. I mean, I
- 23:54Speaker 4: know exactly. I got like fifteen to twenty of those things,
- 23:57Speaker 4: just obviously. I never look at them out with platforms, and.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I think you mean you had those. I had those,
- 24:02Speaker 3: you had effective now you no longer have no exactly
- 24:07Speaker 3: talk about breaking it down into the age groups for
- 24:09Speaker 3: the kids, guys, I mean, because you should get certain
- 24:12Speaker 3: things for certain ages.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Talk about that.
- 24:13Speaker 7: I got on the flyer toys needed for children's ages
- 24:17Speaker 7: infant to fifteen years of age. The babies get overlooked
- 24:21Speaker 7: a lot, so baby toys, rattlers, anything like that, small
- 24:26Speaker 7: stuffed animals that they can see that they can cling to.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Just infants.
- 24:33Speaker 7: A lot of the infants get overlooked because they're little also,
- 24:37Speaker 7: so I mean anything for a baby or something like that,
- 24:39Speaker 7: even bright new baby bottles. I mean that might help
- 24:41Speaker 7: a family out even during the time.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Turn anything away that somebody to do, No, just nothing used.
- 24:49Speaker 7: It can be used as long as it's like a
- 24:51Speaker 7: dollhouse or a kitchen, plastic kitchen, something that can be
- 24:54Speaker 7: wiped off. Right the playroom up there at the hospital.
- 24:57Speaker 7: They go in there and they have like door kitchen
- 25:00Speaker 7: nets and stuff like that, and as long as they
- 25:02Speaker 7: can wipe it off or disinfect it, it'll stay there
- 25:05Speaker 7: in that room and kids can go to that room
- 25:06Speaker 7: and play with the stuff.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Well, a lot of times when it comes to things
- 25:09Speaker 4: like that, are people asking for things. Unfortunately, children and
- 25:13Speaker 4: infants really get overlooked. Yes, I remember broadcasting and doing
- 25:16Speaker 4: things like that and people would bring, you know, socks
- 25:19Speaker 4: and stuff for grown ups, but for infants you really
- 25:22Speaker 4: had to hit that hard to get it.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's overlooked a lot. I mean it really is,
- 25:28Speaker 3: just because of how little they are. And you're talking
- 25:30Speaker 3: about things that people could donate that aren't necessarily going
- 25:34Speaker 3: to break the bank. And look, if you want to donate,
- 25:37Speaker 3: you know an Xbox or one of these things. That's fine.
- 25:39Speaker 4: We would love that.
- 25:40Speaker 3: However, if you want to just donate some smaller things
- 25:43Speaker 3: like that, that would be great as well.
- 25:45Speaker 7: Yeah, cordless remotes for xboxes, PlayStations, anything like that. If
- 25:49Speaker 7: you got an old PlayStation game set at the house
- 25:52Speaker 7: and your kid's got a new PS five and it's
- 25:55Speaker 7: two or three years old. I mean, anything that the
- 25:58Speaker 7: kids can use in that hospital. Like I said, it
- 26:01Speaker 7: all stays local.
- 26:02Speaker 3: And you never know.
- 26:03Speaker 7: Every one of us have kids or grandkids that might
- 26:07Speaker 7: be in there one day, and you never know, you
- 26:08Speaker 7: might be in there with your kid or grandkid and
- 26:12Speaker 7: end up using something that gets donated.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You got a Facebook. I'm presuming somebody can reach out
- 26:17Speaker 3: to you on there because there may be people listening
- 26:19Speaker 3: to us right now that maybe want to go to
- 26:21Speaker 3: one of these places I mentioned. We said you're going
- 26:22Speaker 3: to be collecting items there through the weekend, but you'll
- 26:25Speaker 3: be doing the ride itself December twentieth. You got to
- 26:27Speaker 3: get information out there on social media, guys.
- 26:29Speaker 7: The actual Facebook page is Southern West Virginia Toy Ride
- 26:32Speaker 7: for CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital. The guys will start
- 26:36Speaker 7: picking up the boxes from the drop off locations on
- 26:38Speaker 7: the sixteenth, and the toy ride is actually December twentieth.
- 26:43Speaker 7: It's a good thing. I mean, we leave Daniel Boom
- 26:47Speaker 7: Park about twelve ten, twelve fifteen. We'll gather there between
- 26:51Speaker 7: ten and twelve and then we'll say prayer before we leave,
- 26:54Speaker 7: and then we'll come down to Boulevard Pennsylvania Avenue and
- 26:57Speaker 7: turn into the hospital right there in the loop. All
- 26:59Speaker 7: that's required to participate is one new unwrapped toy, something
- 27:03Speaker 7: you can drop off to the hospital when you go
- 27:05Speaker 7: through the loop. You'll have kids there, you'll have nurses there,
- 27:09Speaker 7: you'll have people from the hospital helping collect the toys.
- 27:12Speaker 4: And you don't even have to get out of your car. No,
- 27:14Speaker 4: that's awesome.
- 27:15Speaker 7: It's mostly this is mostly a motorcycle ride. We have
- 27:20Speaker 7: a few vehicles that all allowed to ride behind us
- 27:24Speaker 7: to pull the trailers and stuff like that.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Over the years, we've had a.
- 27:27Speaker 7: Twenty six foot enclosed trailer and I think another thirty
- 27:30Speaker 7: six foot enclosed trailer. We usually have three to four,
- 27:33Speaker 7: sometimes five enclosed trailers full of toys that goes.
- 27:36Speaker 3: To that hospital.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Now, if I bring some toys, DVD players, which I
- 27:40Speaker 4: do have. Can you teach me how to ride a motorcycle?
- 27:43Speaker 3: Absolutely? Let's remember you're right, but I want to do
- 27:47Speaker 3: wheelies and everything I can do this, Yeah, you might
- 27:50Speaker 3: want to try that in a wheelchair first money, you
- 27:53Speaker 3: put me in bubble wrap and I'm ready to go.
- 27:55Speaker 3: All right, all right, go ahead, and I know you
- 27:57Speaker 3: do you want to say something that's we.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Wrap it up.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I do.
- 27:59Speaker 7: Got a couple of people i'd like to absolute help
- 28:00Speaker 7: outing this every year. Aaron at Charleston Blueprint Market, Appleatch
- 28:05Speaker 7: and Mini Storage, Michael Moore, also known as Burnout, Charles Morton, Bootlegger.
- 28:10Speaker 7: They've helped put out boxes while I've been at work.
- 28:14Speaker 7: J D. Stowers He's gonna probably help pull trailer this year.
- 28:16Speaker 7: He helped last year. He on stours body shopping customs.
- 28:20Speaker 7: And then you've got Gary Price. They all helped pull trailers,
- 28:23Speaker 7: and they all help with every bit of the swam
- 28:25Speaker 7: at work throughout the week and they step in and
- 28:28Speaker 7: do a big part of it.
- 28:29Speaker 3: And this is something we did when I had you
- 28:31Speaker 3: guys before we let you go on the air last year.
- 28:33Speaker 3: And now now that I've got somebody here with me
- 28:35Speaker 3: and Coach Kid everybody's got a cool nickname. Okay, Now,
- 28:38Speaker 3: you gave me one last year. Do you remember what
- 28:40Speaker 3: mine last year was? Because I don't remember, But maybe
- 28:42Speaker 3: you can give me another one this year.
- 28:44Speaker 4: All right?
- 28:44Speaker 3: What is his nickname going to be? What are you
- 28:46Speaker 3: gonna call coach kidd? I think you already named it
- 28:48Speaker 3: a second ago?
- 28:49Speaker 7: What was it?
- 28:49Speaker 3: Coach Delicious or something like that? What'd you say?
- 28:52Speaker 4: It was? Easy?
- 28:55Speaker 3: All right? Okay, you gave him that one, okay, and
- 28:59Speaker 3: my would be what what was it last year? I
- 29:02Speaker 3: don't remember? All right, we gotta come up with another one.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a few names come with. He gave you one,
- 29:08Speaker 4: what's uh? I'd have to think about it.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, time's wasting here, Brody, I don't I
- 29:16Speaker 3: don't have one, Okay, all right, Well, there's a whole

- 33:17Speaker 3: at noon and weather permitting the Nitro Parade and that's
- 33:20Speaker 3: still going on as far as we know. If that changes,
- 33:23Speaker 3: we will let you know. Coach Kid has been my
- 33:27Speaker 3: co host pleasure. This is fun, dude, This is great, okay,
- 33:30Speaker 3: But right before though, I get into some more fun
- 33:33Speaker 3: and high jinks and zaniness that you and I are going.
- 33:36Speaker 4: To get into on this show this morning. You're a
- 33:38Speaker 4: wacky dude. I'm very telling you didn't call that all right.
- 33:41Speaker 3: You first reached out to me though about something that
- 33:45Speaker 3: you're very passionate about that you wanted to come on
- 33:47Speaker 3: the show and talk about today, and then I'll I'll
- 33:49Speaker 3: tell the folks how it evolved. Are you hosting the
- 33:51Speaker 3: whole show with me today? After that? But go ahead
- 33:54Speaker 3: and talk about this.
- 33:55Speaker 4: It's merinatho is where I go now? And to church? Yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 4: to church and back in twenty fourteen they put on
- 34:02Speaker 4: a passion play and then they did another one a
- 34:06Speaker 4: little while after that called The Journey, and now we
- 34:10Speaker 4: have another one called and I'm drawing a blank, Holy
- 34:14Speaker 4: Kyle Ror Advent. There we go. Yeah, I know, yeah,
- 34:18Speaker 4: I know, Roor Advent. And basically it's surrounding the Lion,
- 34:24Speaker 4: the Wardrobe, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Have you seen
- 34:28Speaker 4: that movie, dude? It's amazing. As a matter of fact,
- 34:31Speaker 4: I just saw it last night and it's so good.
- 34:34Speaker 4: And it's loosely based on that, but there are some
- 34:36Speaker 4: things that you would recognize. Tons tons of time have
- 34:40Speaker 4: gone into this, just crazy amounts of time. Miss Tammy,
- 34:44Speaker 4: which is the pastor Darren's wife, have put it all together,
- 34:48Speaker 4: a ton of volunteers and the first show is coming
- 34:51Speaker 4: up tomorrow at seven o'clock, and I'm telling you pyrotechnics,
- 34:56Speaker 4: we're talking fog, We're talking great a fact, great performances
- 35:01Speaker 4: from all the children and the kids that we have
- 35:04Speaker 4: in there. I'm telling you it's a top not show.
- 35:07Speaker 4: You will not be disappointed, and if you are disappointed,
- 35:10Speaker 4: I'll give your money back from the door. Although it's free,
- 35:13Speaker 4: that's right, that's right.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I mean when you talk about having all that for
- 35:16Speaker 3: a play like that or a production like that, this
- 35:19Speaker 3: is a long way from what I remember growing up
- 35:21Speaker 3: in church wearing my Dallas cowboy robe and which was
- 35:25Speaker 3: your first mistake. Yeah, yeah, that's a first mistake. But
- 35:29Speaker 3: it's come a long way parently.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Well, you know. And again it's it's tons of hours.
- 35:34Speaker 4: It's tons of Corey, which is our graphic guy and
- 35:37Speaker 4: just all around dude of everything. He spent tons of
- 35:42Speaker 4: hours on things, and like I said, you will not
- 35:45Speaker 4: be disappointed. To the point where I've seen many plays
- 35:48Speaker 4: of the Passion play to the Journey to this one.
- 35:51Speaker 4: To me, this one is by far the best one
- 35:53Speaker 4: we've put together, especially with all the time, and it's
- 35:56Speaker 4: absolutely free to get in. It's at twenty nine to
- 35:59Speaker 4: ten Terrace, Marinatha Church is where it's going to be
- 36:02Speaker 4: held tomorrow. It'll be seven o'clock Sunday. If you want
- 36:06Speaker 4: to come, it's at ten o'clock during service, and then
- 36:09Speaker 4: the last two shows are Tuesday and Wednesday. And if
- 36:13Speaker 4: you have like ten or more you can reserve seats.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Can you just call the church?
- 36:18Speaker 3: I just to say that's how they do.
- 36:20Speaker 4: That is mfc net dot com. You can, you can
- 36:23Speaker 4: MFC dot net.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I should sall right, we'll talk about that a little
- 36:25Speaker 3: bit more before we let you go. It's nine forty

- 36:53Speaker 3: long as you and I have known each other. Yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 3: as far as I know, this is the first time.
- 36:57Speaker 3: And I might be wrong. Maybe we did something I
- 36:59Speaker 3: don't remember, uh somewhere, which is highly possible. I think
- 37:02Speaker 3: it was the first time we've ever been on microphone
- 37:04Speaker 3: at the same time.
- 37:05Speaker 4: No, that is not correct. Okay, that's I did a
- 37:09Speaker 4: you were I think it was either your client or
- 37:12Speaker 4: you were a part of it out at Putnam Valley
- 37:14Speaker 4: and there was an art show that they were they
- 37:16Speaker 4: hung they hung like wire or and they put there
- 37:21Speaker 4: and I had you on the air at that time.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I forgot about that. Yeah, you're absolutely
- 37:24Speaker 3: right about it. They still trap up here. I gets
- 37:26Speaker 3: my mine's a little rusted. Yeah, it's okay, But I remember, yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 3: actually I do remember that.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Now.
- 37:30Speaker 3: You were out there with the other guys, and I
- 37:32Speaker 3: was there with the Putnam County Tourism folks. I was
- 37:35Speaker 3: the head of the Putnam Tourism Board for a few terms,
- 37:38Speaker 3: and that's why I was out there for that, all right.
- 37:39Speaker 3: So but in a conventional setting, down studio setting, the
- 37:42Speaker 3: first time we ever started, all right, So, how did
- 37:45Speaker 3: the Charleston radio market get lucky enough to have you come.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Did we lose a.
- 37:51Speaker 11: Bat or.
- 37:54Speaker 2: What was?
- 37:54Speaker 6: What?
- 37:55Speaker 3: What was it alleged you to try?
- 37:56Speaker 4: They just threw darts and went up, Okay, we'll take him.
- 38:00Speaker 3: So you're a Michigan guy, obviously, as he's sitting here
- 38:02Speaker 3: with his Detroit Tigers baseball cap and your and your
- 38:06Speaker 3: Michigan quarters zip here. So what was it led you
- 38:09Speaker 3: to West Virginia?
- 38:10Speaker 4: It was I was in Sue Saint Marie. Have you
- 38:12Speaker 4: heard of sus Saint Marie. It's up in the upper
- 38:15Speaker 4: peninsula of Michigan. And I was working as a production
- 38:18Speaker 4: director up there at wyss S FM. And a guy
- 38:24Speaker 4: that worked over at was it a B ninety four,
- 38:29Speaker 4: remember back in the day when that was there, And
- 38:31Speaker 4: he called me and he said, hey, they're looking for
- 38:33Speaker 4: an afternoon guy on the station electric and I said, okay.
- 38:37Speaker 4: So I sent him my stuff. And this was back
- 38:39Speaker 4: in the day when you would send cassette case and
- 38:42Speaker 4: your resume and a picture and all this, you know,
- 38:45Speaker 4: stuff that you took in the kitchen, you know, as
- 38:47Speaker 4: far as your buckshot or whatever. And I sent it
- 38:50Speaker 4: down and then the late Bill Shahan he gave me
- 38:54Speaker 4: a call and but this is the interesting part. Jeff Whitehead,
- 38:58Speaker 4: and I love him and respect him like a father.
- 39:01Speaker 4: He called me, Now, mind you, I'm in Michigan and
- 39:04Speaker 4: I don't have a Southern accent and all that, but
- 39:07Speaker 4: he called me and he said, Jeff's Jeff Wyhead. Now
- 39:11Speaker 4: I mean that in all due respect. But I remember
- 39:13Speaker 4: hearing his voice going what have I done? Where am
- 39:17Speaker 4: I going? All I could picture was him his cowboy
- 39:21Speaker 4: boots on the edge of the desk, cowboy hat and
- 39:23Speaker 4: a bolo with a cigar, going hey, we want you
- 39:26Speaker 4: to come on down here. He ain't from here, No,
- 39:28Speaker 4: it took me three planes to get down here, but
- 39:32Speaker 4: I came down and I remember this. I remember coming
- 39:35Speaker 4: out of the airport and coming around on Greenbrier to
- 39:38Speaker 4: get over on sixty four, and I remember seeing the
- 39:41Speaker 4: city and I remember it like it was yesterday, and
- 39:43Speaker 4: I went, this is it. This is where I want
- 39:45Speaker 4: to be. Really, I kid you not. I remember it,
- 39:48Speaker 4: and I still travel that obviously, and every time I
- 39:50Speaker 4: look at the skyline, I go, yep, this is where
- 39:53Speaker 4: I want. And I left a couple times, but it's
- 39:55Speaker 4: always brought me back, and I love it here.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I love hearing stories about people who aren't from here,
- 40:02Speaker 3: but either adopt it, yeah, or people that leave and
- 40:06Speaker 3: come back, or they leave and are always trying to
- 40:09Speaker 3: work their way back home.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And I've heard those stories before. I left first and
- 40:13Speaker 4: I went to UH. I went to Texas, Austin, Texas. Basically,
- 40:17Speaker 4: I went to Texas and turned on the light, grabbed
- 40:20Speaker 4: a sandwich and said, now I don't like it here.
- 40:21Speaker 4: I'm going to come on back home. It does and
- 40:26Speaker 4: I didn't like it, and it was it was culture
- 40:28Speaker 4: shocked to me. I was far from my family. It
- 40:30Speaker 4: was during the holidays. I'll give you this. I was
- 40:32Speaker 4: in Texas the weekend of Thanksgiving and I was back
- 40:37Speaker 4: here in West Virginia on New Year's Day, moved all
- 40:41Speaker 4: my stuff, everything in the back of you haul. I
- 40:44Speaker 4: called up the radio station. They said, yep, come on back.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Matter of fact, animal he took over the show, or
- 40:49Speaker 4: was going to. And then I made the phone call
- 40:52Speaker 4: and they're like, okay, coaches coming back. You can't have
- 40:54Speaker 4: the show.
- 40:56Speaker 3: That's amazing. It's amazing.
- 40:57Speaker 4: He still talks to you. I know it is. Yeah.
- 40:59Speaker 4: And another time I went and I went to be
- 41:02Speaker 4: production director at Kiss FM ninety two to one Kiss
- 41:06Speaker 4: FM in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that was working out. I
- 41:09Speaker 4: loved it there. It was nice, but I was married.
- 41:12Speaker 4: I was married at the time, and she wanted to
- 41:15Speaker 4: go back home and my again, theory family first, okay,
- 41:19Speaker 4: And it wasn't It wasn't like, oh, I gotta quit this.
- 41:22Speaker 4: And I realized one thing, those are bigger markets than here.
- 41:25Speaker 4: But after I've realized those markets mean nothing compared to
- 41:29Speaker 4: what you're happy with. And I was happy with being
- 41:32Speaker 4: in Charleston, West Virginia, and I'm still happy here and
- 41:35Speaker 4: I will not move for anything else. I will stay home.
- 41:38Speaker 3: All right. Yeah, well that's good stuff and I love
- 41:41Speaker 3: to hear those stories. So how long total were you
- 41:45Speaker 3: I mean not counting when you left came back. How
- 41:47Speaker 3: long total were you on the air in Charles?
- 41:49Speaker 4: Twenty seven years? Twenty seven years? All right?
- 41:51Speaker 3: What was it about this crazy circus that we're in
- 41:54Speaker 3: that led you in as a young kid of a
- 41:56Speaker 3: boy that made you say I want to do that
- 41:58Speaker 3: because we've all got those stories. I got mine, listeners
- 42:01Speaker 3: have heard mine, but I want to hear yours.
- 42:03Speaker 4: What is so?
- 42:03Speaker 3: What was it about this medium that appealed to you
- 42:06Speaker 3: to begin with?
- 42:06Speaker 4: Well, the the the interesting thing that the medium didn't
- 42:09Speaker 4: do anything for me, and I'll and I'll talk about
- 42:12Speaker 4: that in a second. But radio was just one of
- 42:15Speaker 4: those things. I remember hearing rick o'she I remember hearing
- 42:19Speaker 4: Scott Shannon, he was down there. He came to my school,
- 42:22Speaker 4: did speech class. And I got my first taste when
- 42:25Speaker 4: he came into my speech class because they brought this
- 42:27Speaker 4: little recorder and on the recorder was the one O two.
- 42:32Speaker 4: It was w IOG one O two jingle Weather jingle
- 42:36Speaker 4: and you had to what we call in the business,
- 42:38Speaker 4: a don it. So it has a beginning has just music,
- 42:40Speaker 4: and then it has an out with another jingle, and
- 42:43Speaker 4: so he he said, anybody want to try it? So
- 42:45Speaker 4: I went up and I nailed it, you know, from
- 42:48Speaker 4: and I didn't know the time. I just did weather
- 42:50Speaker 4: and I was like hmm. And then I decided, you
- 42:52Speaker 4: know what, I want to be an intern. I woke
- 42:55Speaker 4: up one day. I woke up and I said, I
- 42:57Speaker 4: think I want to be an intern at a radio station.
- 42:59Speaker 4: And I went into the first radio station and they said, no,
- 43:02Speaker 4: you have to have an aircheck, you have to have this.
- 43:04Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know anything about that stuff. And
- 43:06Speaker 4: then I went to another one. It was Cars one
- 43:08Speaker 4: O eight, went there and they said, yeah, we're happening
- 43:11Speaker 4: to you know, looking for a production intern. And that's
- 43:14Speaker 4: what I became. But it was perfect for me because
- 43:16Speaker 4: I lived at home. I was twenty one years old,
- 43:19Speaker 4: and I ate it. I drank it, I slept it.
- 43:23Speaker 4: I was there from six in the morning till almost midnight,
- 43:26Speaker 4: went back home, got four hours of sleep, back up,
- 43:28Speaker 4: and I'm talking springing out of bed to go do
- 43:32Speaker 4: this thing. And all I was was an intern. But
- 43:34Speaker 4: it worked out perfect because I was home and my
- 43:36Speaker 4: parents would help pay for gas. And I was in
- 43:38Speaker 4: college at the time, working at the w MCC, which
- 43:42Speaker 4: was the college radio station. It was Mock Community College.
- 43:45Speaker 3: That's and all of us I think that do this
- 43:48Speaker 3: and have a passion about it, are the same way
- 43:50Speaker 3: I drove at one point for one job, I drove
- 43:53Speaker 3: thirty seven and a half miles one way to make
- 43:55Speaker 3: minimum wage. Oh yeah, that's either dedication or that's just
- 43:59Speaker 3: freaking crazy.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it becomes a passionate. And even though I've been
- 44:02Speaker 4: out of radio, and as you said, we'll talk about that,
- 44:05Speaker 4: but I've been out of radio for a year and
- 44:07Speaker 4: a half. I miss it, and the thing was is
- 44:11Speaker 4: that it really just became about family. But at the
- 44:13Speaker 4: same time, it's in you and I've heard it, and
- 44:17Speaker 4: it will stay in you until your last day. You
- 44:20Speaker 4: will always have that radio bug.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Kind of like a fungus.
- 44:22Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty much a back.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yeah, we got to take a break. Nine to fifty
- 44:26Speaker 3: one a day Island show on five A d line
- 44:27Speaker 3: brought to you ampart by a Bridge Valley Community and

- 48:51Speaker 3: only listen to one artist? Who is it?
- 48:53Speaker 4: Bon Jovi?
- 48:55Speaker 3: Had you not been on the radio or now you're
- 48:57Speaker 3: in the school system, we'll close with that. What career
- 49:00Speaker 3: would you have taken?
- 49:01Speaker 4: Bible philosophy? Your first car? A Sunbird, a Pontiac Sunbird.
- 49:07Speaker 3: A film you can do the majority of lines from.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Oh that's easy. That A few good men?
- 49:12Speaker 3: Last one, knowing that you're a huge Michigan guy, which
- 49:15Speaker 3: we talked about earlier, how much money would it take
- 49:19Speaker 3: for you to stand on the Capitol steps dressed in
- 49:22Speaker 3: all Ohio state gear?
- 49:24Speaker 4: Millions? Millions?
- 49:27Speaker 3: You have completed ten questions. Congratulations, So tell people what
- 49:31Speaker 3: it is that you're doing in the school system now
- 49:33Speaker 3: and you're off today. By the way, you're not skipping,
- 49:35Speaker 3: you're off today.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Yeah, like Mohawks said, dude, it's they're they're on pins
- 49:39Speaker 4: and needles about calling off school or going to school.
- 49:43Speaker 4: All right, but yeah, I'm driving a school bus. And
- 49:46Speaker 4: one of the reasons why I wanted to do that
- 49:48Speaker 4: was when my son Christopher is off, then I'm off,
- 49:53Speaker 4: and I wanted to spend some more time with family.
- 49:55Speaker 4: This year was my first summer off, and dude, I'm
- 50:00Speaker 4: telling you to have a whole summer off. It was incredible.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Just say, dude, that's all you get it. I mean,
- 50:05Speaker 3: because year round is busy in radio, but especially during
- 50:08Speaker 3: the summer summer it's.
- 50:09Speaker 4: A whole And it was funny because a lot of
- 50:12Speaker 4: people that I know were like, oh, summer's coming. I
- 50:13Speaker 4: would dread it like I don't want something.
- 50:16Speaker 3: I got to go and we have. Don't get me wrong,
- 50:18Speaker 3: we love doing it, but we also love our.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Time absolutely absolutely. I mean, as you said, you just
- 50:23Speaker 4: love laying on the couch and sometimes that is few
- 50:26Speaker 4: and far between, just chilling out. But yeah, I'm driving
- 50:28Speaker 4: a school bus. I do love it. I love the
- 50:30Speaker 4: interaction with kids.
- 50:31Speaker 5: Uh.
- 50:32Speaker 4: Sometimes it can be very very challenging where I kind
- 50:35Speaker 4: of want to just take the bus off a cliff,
- 50:38Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't hr he's kidding. I'm kidding. No,
- 50:42Speaker 4: he's just kidding. When you're a bus driver, you have
- 50:45Speaker 4: all kinds of hats on. You know, you're disciplinary, you're
- 50:48Speaker 4: watching in the mirror, you're driving social worker, all of that.
- 50:51Speaker 4: It is very, very very challenging. But we get your
- 50:54Speaker 4: kids safe and and and I know I'm biased when
- 50:56Speaker 4: I say this real quick, but I will say this,
- 50:58Speaker 4: I don't think the public really knows what bus drivers do.
- 51:03Speaker 4: I think we are just known as bus drivers. We
- 51:06Speaker 4: are very much responsible for the safety of your kids.
- 51:10Speaker 4: And there are a lot of things we have to
- 51:12Speaker 4: do on the bus to make sure we don't have
- 51:15Speaker 4: an E. I don't have an eight on my bus.
- 51:16Speaker 4: It's just me, So I'm looking in that mirror constantly.
- 51:19Speaker 4: Other merors I have like ten to fifteen mers I
- 51:22Speaker 4: have to work at and try to make sure navigate
- 51:25Speaker 4: the road, navigate what I have, and you know who's
- 51:28Speaker 4: in behind me.
