- Lucas: Salut Luna, ready to pick up where we left off? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing my neck and throat vocabulary. But oh, I still get tripped up on some of these. Lucas: That's exactly why we're reviewing today. Before we dive in, quick honest thing — a handful of listeners support Fexingo through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what keeps these episodes coming. If you've been learning with us, it's a simple way to help. Luna: Yeah, it's ad-free and listener-funded. We're grateful for every bit of support. Now let's get back to the neck and throat! So first up, le cou. Lucas: Right. Le cou — the neck. Can you say it? Luna: Le cou. Lucas: Perfect. Now, la gorge — the throat. Luna: La gorge. Lucas: Great. And la nuque — that's the back of the neck. Luna: La nuque. Ooh, that's a tricky one. The 'nu' sound. Lucas: You've got it. And les cordes vocales — the vocal cords. Luna: Les cordes vocales. That's a mouthful! Lucas: It is. But very useful. Now, if you have a sore throat, you'd say j'ai mal à la gorge. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. I remember that one from a cold I had last winter. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice all five together. Repeat after me: le cou. Luna: Le cou. Lucas: La gorge. Luna: La gorge. Lucas: La nuque. Luna: La nuque. Lucas: Les cordes vocales. Luna: Les cordes vocales. Lucas: J'ai mal à la gorge. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: You sound great. Now, imagine you're at the doctor. The doctor asks, 'Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas?' What do you say if your throat hurts? Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: Exactly. And if your neck is stiff, you could say j'ai mal au cou. Luna: J'ai mal au cou. So it's 'au' for masculine body parts and 'à la' for feminine? Lucas: You're catching on. Le cou is masculine, so 'au'. La gorge is feminine, so 'à la'. And la nuque is feminine too. Luna: So j'ai mal à la nuque for a sore back of the neck. Lucas: Perfect. Let's try a little role-play. I'll be the doctor. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Bonjour, qu'est-ce qui ne va pas? Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge et j'ai mal à la nuque. Lucas: Ah, you've been looking at your phone too much! But your French is excellent. Luna: Merci! So that's le cou, la gorge, la nuque, les cordes vocales, and j'ai mal à la gorge. I think I've got them down now. Lucas: Let's do one more quick round. I'll say the English, you say the French. Luna: Bring it on. Lucas: Neck. Luna: Le cou. Lucas: Throat. Luna: La gorge. Lucas: Back of the neck. Luna: La nuque. Lucas: Vocal cords. Luna: Les cordes vocales. Lucas: I have a sore throat. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: Nailed it. Keep practicing these, and you'll be ready for any doctor's visit in French. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was a super helpful review. Lucas: My pleasure. And to all our listeners, practice these phrases, and if you'd like to support the show, you know where to find us. À bientôt! Luna: À bientôt!
