- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Big Play Cleveland show presented by Fandel.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Gabriella Cruz alongside Chef Zay, Jack O'Rourke, and a big shout out to our producer Ryan Smith as always.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: And a big shout out to the ladies in the land, Cleveland of the NBA team just got announced right now.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I'm sharp in the blue, go sirens.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk more about that on the show.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: First things first, Ryan's got us heaven in the run down here.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk all these guardians' trades.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: How about it?
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: You guys obviously follow this pretty closely.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Trade deadline has come and gone.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: Guards made it clear that they believe that the steam is capable of making that postseason run.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: They added several pieces, including Nathaniel Low, Foster Griffin, Craig Yoho, and Joe Adele.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: And they also made some, you know, more difficult decisions to reshape the roster.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Just your initial reactions to this.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Jack, are you awake?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'm so, yeah.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: So when the bone nailer trade dropped, and we added Yohot to the time-on Saturday, I went out Friday at a couple too many garage beers maybe from our friends over here at Big Play, and I woke up a little bit late from my slumber Saturday morning to find out from Zay that bone nailer got traded.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: So that's how I found out about that.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure we'll get into that trade specifically here in a little bit, but overall just like, big picture looking at it, not getting into any specific trade.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: This is a banner day for Cleveland Guardians soon.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is a day where everyone should have
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: work, but no, this is a day where you should be driving to work, listen to your maroon five, whatever gets you happy, and just ready to watch some fun Cleveland Guardians baseball because this lineup is back for the first time possibly quite literally in my lifetime.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: Since I was birth, we have a right handed power greater, so that's pretty cool, but so much fun stuff to follow.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like that, like
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: five o'clock to six o'clock was like the witching hour of all witching hours as the Cleveland Guardian Stanley.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: You've been trained your whole entire life.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: They're not going to do anything.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: They're not going to do anything.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, they made one small move.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to be it.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: Bam, they come out, make two more big deals right at the buzzer.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like Damian Lillard and gab.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: It is a just.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: phenomenal data.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_04]: So I wanted to ask you Jack because I kind of been hinting at it and we and I messaged you after I woke you out of your slumber.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: Like I was getting 2016 vibes.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_04]: Is this a resemblance of when it was Miller time and we made those deadline moves because that as someone who doesn't follow baseball as much as you do, that is the first thing that came my mind was like okay.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_04]: first you went out and you you made that move and I'm like I actually you're like it's not quite there yet then they double it back with something else and I'm like okay now we got to be in that territory right and you gave me the sample approval so am I my too much is it not really quite there or is it a resemblance to what 2016 could be?
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of tough when you haven't seen them play a game yet to just be like, yeah, like, hey, world series, it's back on, you know, like, let's get the parade flow it's ready to go.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, this probably should be the most excited to any Cleveland baseball fan has been this decade about this team's postseason chances, prospects, and hopes, you know, I think that when the Terriq scuba trade went down Saturday night, I think half the league, I mean, anyone in the NFL outside the viewers is like, okay, we're punting until after the lockouts over, like, we're just, we're done, we'll we'll fold up
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: In the AL, if you see schoolbell out like in the AL central like we're kind of monitoring like what the white socks you're doing like okay like Luis Castillo isn't what Luis Castillo used to be really they went out and got like Joey Bart who's a backup catcher like they didn't really do anything you're kind of starting like look around smell blood in the water and you're like okay hey if we think this line up is two to three moves away we're starting picture away we're a relief picture away.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: let's go on do it because people are going to be selling for a lower price because of this lockout.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_03]: That's what they decided to do in really outside a Josh heartle who went back in the foster Griffin trade to Washington.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_03]: I like there was not really one prospect who I was like, oh dang, like I'm kind of upset we got we lost that guy.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_04]: We kind of gloss over it last week and I want to ask you again, now that we got the bat.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: What does this do for Jose Ramirez knowing that you have a guy who can give you a little bit of that because I threw the Mike trout thing and like what that would do for him is obviously not Mike trout, but he's a bat he can hit the ball and I believe our hearts and wants to crush his lefties, what does this do for specifically guys like man's
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so yeah, so there's two big side or trades the Guardians went out and made Joe Adele who's probably going to play right field He's actually like everyone has seen his highlights where he robbed the three home runs in the one game.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: So like everyone kind of thinks he's a great defender He's actually really not a great defender.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_03]: She's probably going to like
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: He'll be a DH most of the time and take some of bats and right field, especially against Sleptanid pitching, with guys like on Hello Martina who crush Sleptanid pitching last who's kind of struggled to this point in the year has like a 640 OPS against Sleptanid pitching.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_03]: So that's where you'll see Joe Adele coming in in fact, and he's massive because he adds something you just didn't have before.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_03]: Nathaniel Loe, you had playable first baseman, whether it was Kyle Menzardo and Reece Hoskins who weren't doing fantastic or David Fry, like you had first baseman who you felt somewhat comfortable with to some extent playing in the playoffs, whether some people are like, okay, yeah, man, as they'll turn around, something like, yeah, probably not going to happen.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: We did not have a right-handed power heading out field there.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_03]: That's something that has not been in this organization this decade since COVID.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think you would probably
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: at a minimum have to go back to around Bill Clinton's time as president to the last time we had a right-handed in power outfielder.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what Joe Adele brings.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_03]: He can slot in there in the cleanup spot against left-handed pitching and he can help you match.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like that adding 16 home runs might not sound like, oh, the craziest world beating number, but he walks in with the most home runs on your team.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: He's kind of an interesting story because Joe Adele was a former
- 5:39[SPEAKER_03]: whole entire sport a baseball had like the sky's world expectations just never figured it out then last year came out at 37 home runs hasn't quite done it again this year he has not hit well at all against right-handed pitching I believe his OPS is down below 600 at the moment but you're gonna get production out of Joe Adele against left-handed pitching which is what you went out and got him for and then the Daniel low is just your insurance policy for
- 6:02[SPEAKER_03]: Kyle Manzardo having a terrible year after what you thought was going to be an excellent year coming off of 20 home run 70 RBICs in last year, Nathaniel Lo has never really been a home run guy throughout his career despite being a first baseman DH where like you naturally think power when you see first base DH.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: Nathaniel Lo I think is career high is 27 home runs but he tends to hang more of around that like
- 6:22[SPEAKER_03]: 15 to 22 range.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_03]: She does not hit left handed pitching at all.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: So he's the opposite of Joe Adele on that sense where you will almost never see low in the line of against lefties.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: I believe he only has 24 plate appearances.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: The whole entire year against left handed pitching.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: But he's going to give you a solid bat every single day against right handed pitching that you can throw in towards the top half of that order.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the big thing like you're mentioning say is really it just pushes everyone down one.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: Like, when Brian Rokio was playing the best baseball of his whole entire career earlier this year, he was playing down on the nine hole, with zero pressure on him all he's trying to do is just flip the lineup around.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: When all these guys went down, when you had that Angie Delauder and Jose Swing, where those guys weren't in the lineup, like, hey, Rokio said in second.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_03]: clean up, like just these crazy spots, now guys like that are going back down to where they're more apt to be a guy like Travis Pazana who the bat has been up and down throughout his rookie year.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: Now he drops down on the line up and like things get even easier for him.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_03]: So really it's just making this team deeper.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's like if you, you know those NBA teams that have like, oh, great starters, so we have no bench.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_03]: We might have not gone out and gotten like a crazy big 30 point score, but now we got a nine
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also confident in the clubhouse of this team, too.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: So these guys who are parachuting into a new team and maybe need that chapter change, like you were mentioning with Joe, how, you know, his OPS or maybe some things could start to get buttoned up, but he's in the right environment to blossom.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these guys are, we've seen it year after year, you can't really put,
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: uh, the atmosphere and the aura in the stat column, but I think it counts for something.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can come here and I don't think you come here to die.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to come here to be nurtured.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm excited to see hopefully what can you open up for these guys, you know?
- 8:02[SPEAKER_03]: No, I think that's a great point too, because even and I did, I did get on Joe Adell a little bit for how he tends to hit right-handed pitching, which is not great.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: So if I are the season, even though like he is one of the best hitters in all of baseball against Lieutenant pitching, but when you bring in a guy who has like,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: a cool walk-up song and made all those crazy catches in the outfield like people are on baseball tend to love and just think of his like a freak in a positive way like he is a crazy like ball like body type is like a bigger link here guy and he like he can just like almost like it's almost like a basketball player who can like dunk just standing up and not even jumping like the way you can just like go up and grab a ball over the wall like
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: What Victor women y'all like Victor woman y'all a little bit.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think Joe.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_03]: I'll be a massive addition.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: So that that's what I kind of see happening are the two hitters.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: The guards broke well you really In vibes.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_04]: I was gonna say you've alien vibes.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: You've given us all of the positives, right now like
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just trying to figure out what's the weakness now.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: They address some of the bigger needs that you wanted to see them address towards the dead on and let you know that their buyers, not sellers, where are you still, where do you still have your concerns from this guardian's team?
- 9:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the one place that I don't think, and honestly, I would have loved another left handed reliever also, but from a lineup perspective, I think the one thing I did not get addressed was a first baseman against left handed pitching.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're kind of
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: stuck with recessions for the lack of a veteran term from here on out but recessions is also a veteran a guy who's had 30 homerums before a guy who played in Philadelphia for forever and has a plethora of playoff experience who's not like going to be scared of the moment when it comes he's a veteran like he's a solid enough for a space for better than Nathaniel allowed defensively so or sorry Nathaniel low so at least you add that factor back in as well with Hoskins but you you would have to think that you probably would ideally have
- 9:42[SPEAKER_03]: at first base against left east throughout this playoff run, but if Reese Hoskins can hang around 200 not take terrible at bats and maybe poke a few balls out of the yard, then you're not to upset with that.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_03]: But the bigger ones, they're not really a weakness, but the biggest loser out of all this is going to be Kyle Manzardo.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: David Fry hadn't gotten a hit since July 2nd, so like dang.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no one was really like, oh, wow, David Fry isn't on the team anymore.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_03]: Like that kind of like people saw that coming, but Manzo, it's not a total they're giving
- 10:12[SPEAKER_03]: three different first space when who can only play first base and a backup catcher who can only catch on the roster So someone had to be a casualty out of those spots and it's gonna be manso for now So hopefully manso can go down get hot maybe come back up in September as the last bad or maybe he is back ready to go next Or maybe he gets traded in the office season if you're ready for Ralphie, but the manso's the biggest loser of the deadline Good manso still find his way on a playoff spot
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's also it's baseball like the red socks traded for Curtis me and he got hurt the day after you know like there's the world where you don't want it to happen one of those first baseman could go down and man's heart is back in line up that way, but they're there could be a chance for sure I wouldn't say it's likely that I think it's he's probably on a more similar trajectory for this season to bow nailer in terms of like you're probably never going to see that guy again, then you are a
- 11:00[SPEAKER_03]: guy who's going to come back up and down and bounce like P.D.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: Helping does for example.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_04]: I was going to say, I feel like man's article could give you a big Christmas moment in a playoff.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: No, I think he can't tune out.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_03]: And really enough he's been playing like some of his best baseball really over the last like week and a half or so.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: But when you go out and get a guy like Nathaniel Low, who again, only plays first base and isn't really a great first piece of the first place, like man's article is himself like you're not.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's no spot for him.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_03]: Gotcha.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: how much do you respect the guardians from office slash, you know, how much more respect should we be putting on the front office?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_03]: I got to eat.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_03]: I got to put my hand all the way up in the air and eat so much.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_03]: No, because no, because yeah, I'll even even higher because like back to from the big factor days here, a big play as long as I've been talking into a mic about the guardians, I have hammered them for the fact that I thought I think it's embarrassing that the lack of
- 11:48[SPEAKER_03]: talent and effort they've I guess put in trying to form a nucleus around Jose Ramirez and they totally shut that up yesterday.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_03]: It was a deadline where hey, they're kind of seatering a few games, about 500.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're in the third wild card spot, but probably not going to be your year.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: The Dodgers have 19 starting pitchers who could be in the Hall of Fame.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: They might not be your year.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: They could have packed it up.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: They could have wanted they said, hey, Delauder and Bazana are young.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see you folks in 2028.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: We're done and we're
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: They went out and they did it.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, Hey, we're recognizing right now is not for two and you where a lot of people aren't going that hard for it.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_03]: All you can do in baseball is like it's not like we're going to see the Dodgers in the ALDS or the ALCS.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: You're in a league that has struggled and has been awful all year long.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_03]: The AL West stinks.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_03]: The Yankees have their issues like they still haven't had a catcher.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like I don't think the Yankees are this unbeatable godly team, even if they have had a great year so far.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: All you're asking for is a ticket to the dance and a puncher's chance in the world series.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's like the blue jays last year who are a terrible this year and not that much better than guardians and have half the guardians players who took the Dodgers all the way deep like all you're asking for is hey can we throw those hands up and go try and throw some punches in October.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_04]: So you said that's the only thing you're asking for.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_04]: Let's just say they punch their ticket, but they get bouncing the first round.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: Would this season still be considered a disappointment?
- 13:02[SPEAKER_04]: Would it be a success knowing that they made that move?
- 13:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think that line.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: How are you looking at it?
- 13:07[SPEAKER_04]: because let's say it made the dog move and that was it right because I know that when you said you mentioned to me in the text you wouldn't have been happy or that wouldn't have been enough if that was it but since they made the extra moves after does that give you that cushion for them that's like okay if we get bounce hey at least they tried.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and no, I think it's a lot closer to yes now after what they did.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_03]: They actually proved yesterday.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we're going to go out and get a starting pitcher.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of people didn't pay us for getting a starting pitcher.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: And then you go out and get two hitters as well, in addition to Yoho over the weekend.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like at the same time, could I sit here and say, they spent zero money for the whole entire winter.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_03]: And Nolan Jones was the fourth highest paid player on the team.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_03]: And he didn't even play on the team this season.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: Because he was in AAA because they did nothing in the offseason.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think you could have done more to position yourself better for the first 100 games of the season, but it's going to, I'm going to have a lot less gripes, qualms, whatever, is after you go on do what you did at the deadline.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: And you're good grace.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, they are in the good graces and I have to give them credit for it I think the real big one that we haven't even mentioned yet This is like the craziest most suitable story like I already mentioned how I think Joe Adele is gonna be a total fan favorite here in Cleveland I think the chances that the same ends of happening for foster Griffin are crazy.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: So this guy
- 14:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think he was highly touted draft pick by the royals.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: I forget he was drafting the co-video or debut in the co-videar, but never figured it out.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: Had a bunch of issues, had Tommy John Surgery.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_03]: It was like kicked out of the league.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like the guy was just done playing Major League Baseball.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_03]: One over to Japan played three full seasons in Japan.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_03]: And the MPB grinding his way to figure out, hey, my good stuff to get back into the big leagues.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like, can I be a big league ball player again?
- 14:52[SPEAKER_03]: grinds it out much like Eric Fettie from the white socks last year who got dealt with the cardinals of the deadline signs the one-year contract approved it deal in the MLB Griffin comes over pitches awesome goes 12 and 3 for the nationals like comes back from Japan and there are great starting pitchers who throw have a four-pitch repertoire in baseball, right?
- 15:09[SPEAKER_03]: This kid, foster girlfriend, is going to give you seven pitches.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: This guy throws seven different pitches.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like I'm actually like being a head or like, okay, you can't sit on a fastball.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_03]: You can't sit on, oh, this breaking pitcher, that breaking pitcher.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: This change up because the guy has seven different things in his arsenal that he can throw at you.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: And it also, it's just adding in another lofty in a sport where
- 15:25[SPEAKER_03]: inherently most people are lefty hitters so if you're looking at a playoff series now where your top three guys are Gavin Foster and then Parker Massick like two of the three games you are forcing the other team to not to throw their B lineup like to not have their A guys in or they're they're right-handed hitting lineup so I mean that was just another just masterful move by the guardians I thought
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: And they gave up nothing to get.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Josh Hardell, very solid pitcher, but like, will Deon, we hardly knew you.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's very, very good trade.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it sounds like he's a video game player.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_04]: If I got seven pitches on Nintendo, like there used to be this baseball game in Nintendo where you could pick your players and you could see the pitches that you have.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_04]: I'm picking him every trophy that's the best.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, there's got seven pitches.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys agree with ESPN's Buster only and having the guardians rank number one in the American League?
- 16:16[SPEAKER_03]: that's the you question.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: I mean with the Yankees injuries right now I think that that kind if you're looking at like this exact second living breathing rosters it's probably not the Yankees.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_03]: The razor really really really solid ball club but obviously I think that there was some pap taken other step by not being the team to go out and try and get scuba like I think a lot of people kind of link them as a small market who might take a chance on it.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna go, yeah, I don't think the ALS is that good and I honestly, I don't think the white socks punched up enough of the deadline to get what they need to do, where I'm comfortable saying that I don't know if we're the favorites, don't give me wrong.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think the red socks are also actually never mind, I forgot what the red socks, no, I will say no, we are second.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_03]: The red socks are the number one team in the American League right now.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_04]: They were on fire.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they just got Ellie Rushman who is as Ryan Ryan could surely tell you is my golden goose of all time.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: So I think the Red Sox had they gave up a crap ton of the deadline.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: They gave up their one two three and five prospects across two trades, but the Red Sox are really going forward after that 15 game winning streak.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this is good for the fans because it's nice to see some.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm so excited.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: I remember it was being made.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, we can't really watch it.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's got a napter when the offense is on the field.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like you're doing your work.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: You're getting your reels out, your shorts.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: You're seeing out the YouTube videos right in the sun over.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's when the guardians are batting.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_03]: And then you watch the pitching.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_03]: Now you can watch both facets of the team.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_03]: Whoa, be happy.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're excited about this.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: Um, do you think that?
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we talked a little bit about Jose Ramirez and what this does for him.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that this move, like if you're Jose, do you feel that this was impart for you?
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you feel like, you know, obviously this is for the fans, it's for the team, but you know, this is a guy that really made this commitment and this pledge of loyalty to the city.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: So in addition to winning, do you think this is like a nod to him and his service?
- 18:05[SPEAKER_03]: 100% I think Jose this is now the third time in his career dating back to like when he was in pre-arb that he's extended with the Cleveland Indian slash guardian so he's a guy who I mean again we don't have to state how much he means to the organization we don't have to state how many hundreds of million dollars he's left on the table but based off the I mean like last year we really did nothing at the deadline we kind of felt you're right there the year before that it was Lane Thomas who Lane Thomas was
- 18:28[SPEAKER_03]: he was he was he was he was great in the playoffs but like the year before that Lane Thomas was awesome Lane Thomas was a diminishing return when we got him that year 2023 you were a game behind the division you sold right 2022
- 18:41[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't tell you what we did that that was a long time.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't done anything at the deadline this decade.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: That is meaningful to go out and get Jose Ramirez closer to winning a title.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what they did.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's probably the first time since 2018 when you did the Josh Donaldson, Brad Hand, Adam Simbert deadline that they're like, yeah, like we are putting 10 toes in the ground.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: Jose, let's go try and get a ring for you.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: So is this the most excited you've been since 2016?
- 19:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, well, so here's the thing of that though.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: And I think most people agree at this.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I'm crazy.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to get your rest thoughts on it.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: I thought the 2017 team was better than the 2016 team.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like they go on that crazy, 22 game win streak.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: They blow the division out of the water, post-win streak, like you have, Brandon Lee was back healthy that year.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_03]: And Karnascio and hit 40 homerons.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: Jose had,
- 19:25[SPEAKER_03]: Jose and Frankie both had 80 RBI is sitting first and second in the order like that's unheard of like that scene was So good they had the pitching like it just they just got hurt.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: I guess it wasn't that the year Frankie went ghost in the playoffs though No, no, that was when Frankie hit the grand slam against the game.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that was that.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, we went up to open that series We lost three string.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: I knocked out in five by the Yankees, but so I would say was that 18 that 18 was when we we like we got slept by the trash can banging Astros
- 19:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and that was okay.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_04]: So that had to been a year where Frankie was a go.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: I remember there was a play on the 20 years bad in the playoffs too.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, COVID year remember that short series of the Yankees, but no, Gabby, this is the most I think the most excited I've been to 2017 about the Guardians.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right, sick.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: While we wrap up here, I also need to be excited about women's basketball.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right, come on.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get a little bit before we tag out here for our first break of the show, but
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: WMBA in the land.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's common.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Cleveland sirens.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: They just bald out hard with their promo video.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: The marketing team shout out to you shout out to the Cavs organization.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody does it as sharp as you guys.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seriously, they just have really good feel the messaging around it was incredible.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: here the call.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: What did you guys think?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: I know we're all kind of scrolling and updating social media.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I was there at the arena getting the real-time unveil and I got to say just the vibes in the room just chills.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: People were gag-ah for this sirens reveal and I love the ties with the lake and the the fierceness, the mermaid were, it's feminine but it's fierce.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know we mean business.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: me and Ryan were in here.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_04]: We we've both had goes out.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_04]: We enjoyed it.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the first clip that we saw, we were like, all this is sick.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: Like, together as we were watching it.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_04]: So I get it took me to like I mentioned to you Harry Potter and the goblet of fire.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_04]: There's this, uh, one of the events is taking place in the water and Harry runs into the sirens and he's getting choked out and all the time.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, we don't tell me everything.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: I that's the one I didn't watch.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't finish reading that books.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: I refuse to watch the movie.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_03]: getting denied in the rim of Harry Potter reference.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: We won't find a bigger Harry Potter fan, by the way.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, but I just like, Oh, no you didn't.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the biggest Harry Potter fan.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: No way.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get on that one.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: The rocket rockers rockers from back in the day like rock and roll we love the rockers But if they were gonna do something new and updated this was the route you had to go It had to be badass and they hit it right on the mark.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think the color scheme is sick I think the ties with even even the logo just check this out when you look at the siren That's featured in the logo.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's got five strands of hair like waving in the ocean or waving in the lake
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: and it's to represent the five players on on the court and there's just subtle things so much that went into the creation of this logo what they want it to mean what they want the messaging to mean it's just so well thought out cool as part of it if you keep out there Ryan a siren has two tails that's like one of the most notable things about a siren so I believe it's kind of cool at the s the s in siren makes the two tails
- 22:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that's a cool detail.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm seeing that, too.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, for the art.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_04]: They need a they need a Caitlin Clark.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_04]: They need a bat they need an English angel.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_04]: They need somebody with that dog in them profile more, but we, but I mean, listen, if Caitlin Clark came to Cleveland, I promise you I may be a number one fan.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_04]: I may be a pirate like you say you you're claiming number one thing.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_03]: I know I do think a handheld dog.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I will go.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Katelyn Clark come to the land.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_04]: I'm prompt Katelyn Clark I need a jersey.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't even need a sign.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_04]: I just want to walk give me a front row seat for one game So I could put just watch you pull it for 41 times.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, can you be Katelyn Clark?
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, should I try out?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: You should try it out.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, what?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_04]: This is your moment.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_04]: You've been waiting on this.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, I'd have to work on my jumper, but I will say this, say, is like, in terms of speed and defense and being a headache on defense, I think I still got it.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I still got it.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_03]: I just got to show that.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to show that.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_04]: How do they go about getting the roster now?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to pull people from other countries.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I have to think.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_04]: So like do we have a chance at one of the big names?
- 23:54[SPEAKER_03]: I so here's what's interesting to me is the I don't know everyone else in that draft class all I know is the Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese from that draft class.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I'm sure I like the player from that draft.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: But well, no, no, so that draft class becomes unrestricted free agents the year we come into the league.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_03]: Is there any ties with Clark?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because Clark is a biggie.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe she played in the biggest final Thor and women's history at Rocket Arena.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_03]: We're literally the sirens.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to put their home games.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think all this was looking ahead and then taking steps backward.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like if I know what they're doing and I know how they're positioning themselves and I think it's an awesome pitch.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: If nothing else, we're going to get a baller team and we're going to have a sweet pitch for Caitlin Clark.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_03]: I will bat you, they win before the rounds.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: You heard it here first.

- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: So you're a fan too.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: What's your favorite movie?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because I know you said you didn't read the books, but favorite hp movie
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it was the older ones, like, social stones.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: Might have been the first one, but, like, I feel like nothing can't top the first one was like the first one isn't.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: The first one isn't.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: They go all to the next ones, but it's not as good as the first one.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you mean, but it's still a good story like this.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious what Zay thinks about best movie, best Harry Potter movies.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: Since you've seen them all.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's hard.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we could get into the best movies, but there's the best scene out of all of the tired movie, and you haven't even blessed your eyes with it.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: But he's saying he's a bigger Harry Potter fan but never read the book.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: My thing is I was just a slow reader.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't read the fourth one fast enough, and then the movie came out.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I refused to watch any of the fourth movies and on, until I went back and read the books.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then I missed my window.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: I tried to read Harry Potter's and I don't.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, you know what?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_04]: It feels a little silly or not.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_04]: So you're not even a real fan.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_04]: No, I am.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's just as a kid.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was like.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: My brain was exploding as an adult.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, yeah, I can't believe this isn't real.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_04]: I got the one and I might ask something cooler if I was four.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_04]: But seven.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to need a one and some spells to make sure we get the best quarterback for the Browns this season.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to try to really hard for that segue, guys.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: But then you're headed out.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's called yourself out.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're headed.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: The starting hat is going to have to tell us where should our Sanders lies and is it going to be in start as a starter?
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: We're in no.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: Or what?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_04]: Not slow that.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_04]: Not slow, they're really slow.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know just what to do with you.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking the Browns quarterback battle.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what else, right?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's the second week of Browns training camp.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we have this quarterback competition still very much alive.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: Todd Monkin continues to say that there's no decision coming anytime soon.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: But if you followed the team through camp, it's hard not to come away wondering if Shador is starting to create some level of separation.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: What are your observations?
- 28:41[SPEAKER_04]: feel I got a question for you man because I'm just we yesterday you watch back in the the overwhelming take that I was seeing on social media was oh there's no real separation between the battles and all of this stuff and then I went back and I watched Cameron Justice did a phenomenal she does a phenomenal job with the mashup of all of the highlights from the different quarterbacks.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: And I watched Adora Sanders first, explosive plays, you've seen the touchdowns, you've seen some of the throws, obviously you've seen some of the mishaps as well.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_04]: But then you watched the Deshawn Watson three minute clips.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_04]: And you get to about that 230 mark, three minute mark, and that last minute was just all out of rhythm stuff.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_04]: When you're in training camp, how important is it when you have a quarterback battle?
- 29:23[SPEAKER_04]: When you see one quarterback have, um,
- 29:26[SPEAKER_04]: three explosive plays in one day and he's stacking these explosive plays where the other quarter back who you thought or you felt like was going to be the starter really not making the explosiveness has six interceptions.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_04]: How does that translate in the like as a player you starting to feel a certain type of way or is this still too early in the camp to give that, you know, that that took my as a
- 29:48[SPEAKER_04]: As a player seeing it like because on the field you watch and you like man He just lit our defense up again.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_04]: This is another explosive play.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_04]: You know how important explosive plays aren't in a field And then the other one ball in a dirt here over throw on a sideline here like the rhythm not being as there like Do you start to look at do you start to fill it or is it still a little bit too early in the camp?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you can see it, but
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: As a player, you're going to control what you can control.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can't really speak about it, you know, you can speak.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some guys speak amongst themselves, but you really can't speak out about it because it's like, like, whoever's up to hell, that's who at the helm.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, saying the coaches think that's the person that's, you know, saying that got the, you know, best interest for us.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: So boom, but at the same time, you got to,
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you gotta call us made a spade, you know, as a media.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I haven't been out to practice yet, but I mean, from what I've heard, you know, it looked like the shots still had some, you know, spider webs, some cobwebs and knock-off, you know what I mean?
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: Not so much accurate at times.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, but that comes with the speed and, you know, once we get into these preseason games, I feel like, you know, that might help them out or we'll see if somebody starts to, you know, pull away with the lead.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Phil, we should talk a little bit about your time, too, because I think the luxury we have of having you in studio is being able to pick your brain and share some memories with us because you were a first-round pick in 2011, spent your first four years with the Browns of your NFL career.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: And you kind of got to experience first-hand how passionate the fans are and get that,
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: that OG dog pound experienced that was set forth with Hanford and then layered on in years later with you guys.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: So, what is one memory that comes to mind when you think back to your playing days in this time of years specifically?
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Just a daily fight training camp, but also just the familiar faces of those fans that you see,
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: rain, sleet, and snow, though it's a select few, but you see them every training camp, them their every day, uh, every game like they're there, you know what I mean?
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it's those those super super, super die hard fans that, you know, it's like, man, they're doing this every day.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_04]: I can come out here, you know, keep them going at least.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_04]: I know, by me being out here going through.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all the stuff we're going through the heat or whatever it is, the aches to injuries, but we're making, you know, we're putting smiles on other people's faces and all the, you know, the kids and things like.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: school to see how through the arrows that passion has remained the same, despite the record.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: When you were playing and you're talking about all the experiences with fans, do you think that it's the exact same when you go out and know you said you haven't been this year?
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: But in the past handful of years, in the last five years, when you get out to camp and you experience that, is it the same?
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: Is it the same feel?
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: Or do you think that,
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: The organization may be having less success than people's expectations have been has started to disintegrate.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: What are your first hand observations?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, we each have one when it comes to like the fan interactions.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the passion.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's gotten better because obviously they've upgraded the facility a lot and you know, different amenities for the fans and stuff when they get there.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: But uh, you know, the fans are the fans, man.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: They're excited, you know, they don't care.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_04]: We want to, oh and whatever.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, they're back again in the next year.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's always, like I said, it's always next year.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when I'm being a former player and now a fan, it's like, you know, I'm hoping, you know, we get them when they're these fans, the city, you know, they need it, you know what I mean?
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's all, yeah.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_04]: No one does training camp like the Browns though like it's so weird because I went to the Detroit Lions training camp and it was a night and day difference.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_04]: I mean they had the cheerleaders out there had the music but the fans wasn't hitting like the Browns fans be hitting and I just think back I went from 19 is when I really started my own journey on going on to the training camps.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_04]: I went to 14 of them that year and it's the same enthusiastic enthusiastic enthusiastic.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_04]: Wow, it's the same energy and enthusiasm that you see from the fans then when we had Baker Odo, Jarvis, Chub, and then boys.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: Now, and even when you had James Winston, Jacobi Bersetta's quarterback, like the fans were still out there.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_04]: You still couldn't get the free tickets that were offered.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_04]: Like you go on right now, you can go to a Pittsburgh website or you can go to a Bengals website and you can get these tickets easy.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_04]: You can't go.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_04]: on a website right now and get a ticket for a training camp because that's what like I don't know what it is about brownspins but that's what we about and I always say this is the best time here because it's the closest that you'll ever get to the players for free there is is common cool as they like it took one practice for Jared verse to come over and interact with nine years or we've had miles.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't sniff his, I couldn't breathe the same air as Miles Gary or Baker Mayfield.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like it was so rare for those occasions to happen, and Shador, Q, Casey, Carson, all of our dogs are interacting with the fans, it's like, you don't get that anywhere but Trinkin.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_04]: This is why it's the best time of year for me.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_03]: I want to ask you as well because I feel like the locker room is something that comes up so much in the media Storylines fan bases like ostracid near yellin about stuff like oh Like is it gonna be split shouldosh the this half locker for sure or this effort to Sean whatever What is it like like actually being in an NFL locker not even in terms of like I like picking side not saying that kind of stuff But like how many guys are you like?
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: genuinely like interacting with every single day on a daily basis like are you like is there guys on the offense who you are two ships passing in the night in the building like what how many guys in the team would you say are people like actually like friends with maybe at a time?
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, uh, I would say, like any other, you know, group setting where, you know, people of similar interests, they kind of hang out a lot, you know, more so outside of the facility.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, but interaction wise, I interact with, you know, mostly everybody.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: I say it was up to everybody, I know everybody, but,
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some of my closer guys would be like, you know, Joe Hayden, TJ Ward, you know, saying something like that, Josh Gordon, and you know, we will hang out a lot more, but at the same time, you know, we're a team.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, it was a times where, you know, somebody showed up that doesn't usually hang out with us and it would still be the same, you know?
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Being a first round pick did the excitement from the fans make it easier for you or put more pressure on you.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, a little bit of both because you know, you don't want to let nobody down, but at the same time, uh, you got to show them what you're about.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: In my first year, I know they gave me a little grief, uh, because I, I stood out the first few days I can't for something.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, there was a thing my agent wanted me to do and you know, it helped me out a long run, but uh, yeah, you know, I still, I still, I still love these friends.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a fan of the Browns man.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I see what they, they stand with everything, you know, you know, looking at the outside of what is.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_04]: some of what is one of your top two rookie moments you know you always got the rookie duties every time I train in camp you the lime and the the every position cause they are positioned they they throw the rookie out there to hype up the crowd or carry the home is I think you see one player bringing the donuts what was your top two rookie duties that you had to do
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: rookie duties see my OG my rookie air was the top of the room he was cool like he was trying to different stand like he wasn't one of those like me and Jabal were the rookies of the department and we had a D-line dinner and he wasn't a top of one of those guys are going to run the bill up for him he's got lucky I think I'll build total was probably like two bad for D-line oh no you gotta get easy you got all easy and I think I
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, probably like 11, 12 hundred and like gift cards that I got from weekend, all the time, and it's something I got to do with what you get fired over everybody.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, a top of a table was cool, man.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: He kept it real, but it showed, but like when we started getting the other vets in the room, that was used to certain things.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then by top of like now, I will.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so did you carry on that tradition later on or did you did you did you You have a little fun and maybe give some of the rookie some duties.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_04]: Did you ever can't did you carry any helmets pads?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_04]: I might have carried some helmets.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: I might have carried some helmets, but uh, yeah, rude button about that man.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: He rude like man.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: Get your own shit.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, shout out rude man.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: What a guy.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Get your own stuff.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_00]: But uh, yeah, I mean,
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I wasn't that type of rookie that's going, you know what I'm saying?
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like the rookies I had, like I had Billy Winn, who else?
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: Big John Hughes.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's really kitchen.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: They were all good guys and cool people.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: So like when we did a D-line thing, it was almost, we all put in on it.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_04]: Two bands for a D-line dinner is,
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't just rude, because honestly, I came in and I'm like, I don't care what you're saying.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: You ain't even to make me spend nothing.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, we can be in his mobile confiding for real.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's my money.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: So there's one of them type things too, so but it ain't never get to that, because rude was already cool.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_04]: He was already cool.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_03]: But if it were that, you know what I mean?
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: I would have to stand my ground.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's fine.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to ask you, Phil, about kind of like staying in the locker room veteran ilk of the conversation.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: When, because we talked a little bit earlier, Ex ace had about like the guy, some of the younger guys are like kind of like changing the tides, like how things are running Cleveland a little bit, like guy like Jared verse, like running up to see the fans, and I was never really did that.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: When you were in a locker room with a guy like Joe Tom, it's like, I don't know how the guy led, obviously, I was not there with you guys for those moments and time, but uh, like what uh,
- 40:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's a guy.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: Wait on your mouth.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: Would it be like, if people are talking in Joe Thomas talk with everyone sharp and listen, like, what kind of a leader was here?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_03]: I guess who was that guy for the whole entire locker room?
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, yeah, like when that guy talks, like, dad's here, everyone's trying to think of laughing.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: My rookie year to God, that would, you know, more or less like the talking of God, you know, get the guys together.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_04]: Good.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would say the quail remember pops my gattams.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all right.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, not so much later in this.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was third year, right?
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 41:21[SPEAKER_04]: it the quilt Jackson man.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_04]: He had 116 solo tackles that season.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_04]: Dude was a walking hunter.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_04]: You knew you could pencil in the quilt for 100 every single year.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_04]: Me and room keeping them back as old.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_04]: TJ Ward was on that roster as well.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: We had one of the I would say on paper one of the best deep answers that that yeah, I feel like all the guys We had If we would have just covered together Yeah, the what was Tasha on Gibson on it.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: Tasha on one theory.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, well shark I was going to say that was after that because he had nine other sessions that one year damn that was the year we son Oh my gosh, I remember that year because we got
- 42:00[SPEAKER_04]: I was just about to say show the brown came from the Eagles.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_04]: We was low-key stacked that year, man How the hell didn't we win?
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: We was top 10 of these days, but we just had an office.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_04]: We still have Phil Dawson.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm a part of that guy.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_04]: A cult McCoy.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that was cult.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_04]: Call McCoy was quarterback.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_04]: Did you like, did you like, did you like the Patriots with them?
- 42:19[SPEAKER_04]: Payton Hillis, that was Payton Hillis year.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: 160.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, was it?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: No, we didn't be the Patriots.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe those are your after you might have been the year before I would be okay.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so were you with paid notice on ever.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that year.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so that was the the Madden year.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that paid paid in Hill is called.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: My name for the draft.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, really.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty cool.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: No way.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_04]: Memory Lane man.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_04]: What's your favorite training kit memory that you had that are like every time you think about training camp that memory pops into your head.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: I have one Well, I was a kid Oh, man, because it wasn't I don't know.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the pants is always there.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was more maybe more so
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: This is getting used to the speed of it really I mean training camp is training camp even you know saying because college, you know Oh no I mean it's nobody really like training camp.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean it was just one of the things like Because you're going to get the same guys for like three or four weeks and get to fight that's one fight every day you know the main but I mean maybe my work here the whole experience of staying
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: at the hotel, maybe, I don't know.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_03]: Does I make the joint practices more, I guess, like, fun or, like, do you look forward to them because your practice to my last year?
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that was when we, that was, yeah, that was one of the first joint break, I think, and we did it with the bills.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_03]: So does that make it, like, more fun or at least you can look forward to that or at least like, those days are better?
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough, but at the same time, I like it.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: You ain't going to get your team all the time, and you get a little bit better work, you know, since, especially with the 101s, and you know, going against another team.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: Because a lot of fights, though, a lot of way more fights in joint practice.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_03]: I've always wondered on the D line, or I guess the O line too early, and this comes from someone who quite obviously never played the O line or the D line at any point in his life.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_03]: I would always think like training camp is almost hard to tell, maybe more for like a edge rusher in a way like not like how good a guy is, but like what if like what if you're facing the same guy every single day.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like okay, like I know like this guy is gonna like do this swim move on me.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_03]: Or like that, that's what makes it better.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: Aaron sharpened the iron.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I'm trying to work on the other stuff here.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when you get to the game, it's like, thank God, you know, practice, it is, you know what?
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and that's how it should be, oh, all levels of football, practice should be the hardest thing to wear the game is so fun, you know what I mean?
- 45:17[SPEAKER_04]: I wonder if that's why the Browns haven't been where we need to be to pass a couple years.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_04]: I think back to Joe Flacco and some of his interviews he talked about how just easy it is compared to back and he's like these guys are over here thinking this is hard.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_04]: He's like this would have been the first practice of the day.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_04]: Like is it a detriment to the product?
- 45:38[SPEAKER_04]: Do you feel like it hurts the product that practices maybe aren't as tough as they once were because of how easy it's become?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: I can't really speak on that too much because I came in a year after the lock-out side and you know my two of their days was college.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, something kind of correlates the last practice time we're giving these guys the more injuries.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, I'm so happy you said then.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_04]: Now you know now we're
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, my God, Chad Johnson, he said you got to build them Calacers up.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: You got to put your body through.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's different movements and beating it, you know, beating it body up a little bit.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you build that Calac.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: So in the season, you're ready.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the last three years since we are.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: when down to three precies and games.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at teams, I feel like they don't start really warming up to week three, week four, you know what I mean?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when you start to see.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of, and then again, is sometimes it's later because your star is ain't gonna play the whole preseason, you know what I mean?
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, I mean, these guys got to be in the game.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, I know you're making hell of money, but at the same time, you got to be out there.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_04]: That's I agree with that so much because I've talked about it before.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_04]: I just think back like you see so many soft tissue injuries and so much more injuries were like I grew up in era.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_04]: I know you grew up in an era where if you ever told your coach that you had a sword this or sort of good luck finding the field like there was none of that like you had to play through some injuries because you're not going to be a hundred percent all the time, especially playing a sport like like football.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: And they can't be a little bit of overtraining as well.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these guys are, you know, even in the offseason.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like I would always, you know, after the season, I would give myself a month.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, let my body, you know, kind of get back and then go into it.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these guys, they don't stop.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_03]: Phil I want to ask you this is this really has been a topic kind of the top of my forehead for the last four front of my forehead for the last two or so weeks.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: Gabny walked through the kitchen last week and got kind of a little gander what drinks they got in there the yo plays like the the selections in the Browns cafeteria ball salad bar.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sauce and Caesar out of the Italian anything you're balsamic even.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: What was the best eats you could find in the Cleveland Browns cafeteria during the playing days?
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and how did our room compare to probably do you better off just getting the guy to make you up your little stir fryer, you know.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, stir fryer station.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, stir fryer station.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's about it.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_04]: That sounds like college.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_04]: We, I was that's literally where I thought to as an exact.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_04]: Let me just
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: at breakfast, you know, in the kitchen.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: You do what's in the stirrup right now.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: You can get how many, how many eggs you want, and then you get what you want, sauce is begging, put all that in there, boom.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is incredible.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_03]: How is our, I guess, food slash facilities when you played compared to your other two stops?
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: So when I played, so I would say out of the three, the three teams I played for,
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: When I was there, cafeteria probably Cleveland would be third.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_04]: I was going to say to her and no wait at the top.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland would be third.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Washington is second and never probably first.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: You was like, my screen machines are something, how do you get first?
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: The average.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: They should every Friday was Serpentir.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that'll do it.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: XCJ about that.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Serpentir.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: They do it different.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: They were, you know, a super old child.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that'd be safe.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_04]: We all know none about that.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: There was a year after Super Bowl, so you know.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they was living large.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_04]: Serpentir was on the house.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: We got to take a break, but real quick,
- 49:50[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, so I was a kid and my shout-out sky springer, he just retired.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_04]: He was the ground's crew probably when you was there, too.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's my uncle.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_04]: He, uh, my neighbor was the reason why I'm a diehard Browns fan, and he was the field goal post guy for years, and he would get us tickets to one game every year.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_04]: So from like 99 all the way up until probably 11, I've been to one game every year, because of sky.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_04]: He just retired this year.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_04]: That's, that's new to him right there.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_04]: It was training camp one year and this was the year we had Lisa's William Green that running back and just there was a little bit of high building and I'll never forget we were standing on when you if you were walking in from where the houses are to the left we were standing on that sideline right there and William Greens right in front of me and I'm so high I'm I'm probably seven if that maybe.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, well, you're in degrees right there.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_04]: He takes a sip of this yellow gatorade bottle, right?
- 50:45[SPEAKER_04]: And chucks it over to the side.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, my eyes are on it the entire day.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, I want that gatorade bottle.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_04]: So Uncle Scott comes over, talks to us over there, and I'm just like,
- 50:57[SPEAKER_04]: Uncle Scott, can you get that gatorade bottle that's right there?
- 51:00[SPEAKER_04]: He goes over grabs him.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_04]: I have that same gatorade bottle, never took a sip out of it.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_04]: Still to this day under my bed at my mom's house.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_04]: That's in that as a memory.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like the guy that took me to the table.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_04]: Can you explain?
- 51:14[SPEAKER_04]: But it probably tastes like some syrup, but so you know, they had to get a little...
- 51:19[SPEAKER_04]: I still have it.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the whole game.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're still getting dumped out.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: They get it.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_04]: No, and you don't put it out.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't put it out.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_04]: And you didn't put it out.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to figure out where COVID started.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: That's under so bad.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: That's crazy.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_04]: I still have it to this day.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_04]: And he always was like, say, you drank something that you like not in drink.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_04]: No, but that's a memory that just lives forever in my head.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't wonder you think you're the biggest Harry Potter show.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to drink a little too much crazy news.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: That thing's going to happen.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to go to the crib and I'm going to see.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_04]: It's still good because every time I go there and I say No, not that.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_04]: It was the Gatorade Yellow, the original Gatorade.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, get it right now.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay, yeah, like actual, yeah.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's not sealed, but he drank.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because you're, oh my god.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's so good.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_04]: And he purchased it.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_04]: And we're touching, it was William Grease.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_04]: And it's still under my bed at my mom's house.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_04]: So that's hilarious.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_04]: It's still yellow.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_04]: That's probably, I mean, I'm 33 now, so.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's not good though.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: things need to age.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's what they say.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: Stay away.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_03]: The thing that I think might have like an alcohol content for some money and I and I can I'll put it in the back.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_04]: So you guys don't know.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's bring it in.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_04]: Got to bring it in.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: How old did you say it is?
- 52:31[SPEAKER_04]: It has to be.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's got to be over 25 years old.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe 20.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_04]: When was William Green here?
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you meant like you know how the green and gatorade battles that all the water goes in.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: I thought maybe they did a special edition like yellow one.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: He got drafted in 2002 and was here through 2005.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_04]: So this had to be, I mean, it's 20 years, 20 years old, minimum.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's so close.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's like a long.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: The same line.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: Just like collecting a person in here.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're still hanging on to it.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_04]: I still have a song.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_04]: If you remind me, I'll bring it in.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we'll bring it in for next week.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: We got to take a break.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out Phil as he drinks his nice water.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back with our big play Cleveland right after this.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the Big Play Cleveland show.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: We are continuing talking about the Cleveland Brown shot to Phil Taylor as always just such a good guy and cool to pick his brain whenever he's in studio.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're still evaluating this quarterback battle.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: We talk a little bit with Phil on it and I want to get your guys' thoughts on specifically Watson and maybe some of his lackluster moments.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: I know that you were kind of comparing highlights even.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that that's just the product of
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: As, as Phil was saying, knack off the cobwebs type deal.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, or are we gonna read into this little bit deeper about his entire skill set?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we always read into everything deeper.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_04]: And when it involves Deshawn Watson, there is a big of a microscope as you can put on his game because I think a lot of fans are just ready to put that chapter behind.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's getting to a point now where I'm seeing even the Shador fans and just Browns fans in general say that they're ready for Dillon Gabriel to be just number two, all that it should be with Shador one.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_04]: Bill in two, and they're just wasting their time with this, the Sean thing.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_04]: But I think, you know, we talked about it a couple of shows ago where I'm like, how much stock do we buy into training camps, and then he's clips and stuff like that.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_04]: I think you've got to buy into some of the stuff that you see.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, this is Phil said, the practices are the hardest things.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_04]: You practice how you play.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: If one quarterback is throwing more interceptions and practices than the other one, chances are if you go into a game, that quarterback's going to continue to throw interceptions.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_04]: So,
- 54:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's still early in camp.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_04]: It was the first day of pad yesterday, but overall, I'm not going to go in Lake Erie like you, Jackson, and baptize myself yet and say, Chador is the leading guy.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_04]: We're pump our brakes because, you know, my wrist is still surviving somehow some way, but I buy a little bit of stock into it, but it's not the end of the world.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think Deshawn Watson is a lot like a 25-year-old Gatorade under your bad at your mom's house, because I think that there was probably a day in a time where the Gatorade tasted really, really good, and it was awesome.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're still drinking the juice.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that...
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: it's gone, and it's been way too long.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's very clear.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's very round.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's physically still around.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_03]: And everyone's very clear to everyone looking at it that you probably should not have it anymore.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: And you should throw it out the window before it blows up and makes a stink on everything like your younger severs.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_03]: So I would probably yeah.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: And again, like like like you said though, why not why not put Dylan Gabriel as the second quarter back if you know you know what the shan is you know There's no future at the shan you know you's not going back and extra you should do everything you can to try and prove to yourself That you either do or do not need a quarterback in the first round through two picks next year like there is there's nothing to show like I I still have a good reason why you play to shan I really don't
- 56:07[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, I don't care about this probal from three Presidency's ago.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_04]: Dylan was Dylan the first day of camp when I went I'm watching them like what is why is Dylan out here lowkey cooking like not not even like cooking cooking but like enough to be like
- 56:22[SPEAKER_04]: we didn't see this last year like maybe the reporters what they saw was but what I saw I saw a quarterback just like I said with the Sean Watson who feels a lot more free like the quarterback room as a whole just looks in fields a lot more free I genuinely wish we could have a quarterback battle between these three quarterbacks fairly without having to have oh I'm a fan of this guy and I don't want anything like
- 56:47[SPEAKER_04]: I keep saying it.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a being on record.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_04]: I've said it a thousand times.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_04]: This time would ride so hard for Dylan, especially if you've seen some of this stuff.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think his stock is rising.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_04]: We are literally a preseason game away from Kevin's defense.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_04]: He's picking up that phone and looking over at two was, um, X-rays, you know, yeah, we can't, we can't do it.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_04]: We got to go ahead and bring Dylan in.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think I've been relatively anti-dilling Gabriel from start, I think a lot of that probably is because I truthfully wanted to see Shador Sanders play, right?
- 57:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like I was I wanted Shador out there last year, like I think it was apparent that Dillon yeah, that Dillon Gabriel wasn't really going to add a whole ton, but you got to give that kid a chance before you play to Sean.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think that you do have to look at when Dillon was in the game last year.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was a buttonly clear that Kevin was keeping the cork on top of the model.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like I think.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_03]: Dylan Gabriel might have attempted like maybe kind of one hand how many passes he attempted more than 20 yards down field, right?
- 57:42[SPEAKER_03]: And like again, I'm not saying that the guy is going to go out there and be patched my homes and sling him 60 yards, but I think maybe if he's opened up and he's not like being put in this mindset of you're a caretaker, you do not turn the football over like having this telling him like I just do not throw in receptions.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_03]: That is your hole-insider job.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe things do open up, but there is a reason that, and again, he played a thousand college football games I know this, but you don't like accidentally become the
- 58:04[SPEAKER_03]: touch the most touch-downs in college football history, like you got to have some skill in there.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: So are you saying do you think that he can, it's early enough for him to, we, we lose way in and make this a three-man quarterback competition?
- 58:15[SPEAKER_03]: I, I don't think from the start he could at all.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think there's a chance to start week one, but I do think in the grand scheme of things, like I think that a lot of people in Cleveland will probably tell you it's just as worthwhile to get him a look as it is to Sean.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I think you can ask a handful, maybe a few handfuls of other people that would rather see green over Gabriel.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, and that's true.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you probably again over to Sean though.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_03]: I think that there for a lot of people, he's probably the fourth quarterback right down in terms of who you'd want to see go out there and he's probably the guy who's going to go out there.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_03]: Where are you at?
- 58:46[SPEAKER_03]: Where are you at that on the day?
- 58:47[SPEAKER_03]: Because like, I feel like we've all kind of thought the whole entire off season, like, no matter, because we've seen it with the Sean a thousand times, not like no matter how
- 58:56[SPEAKER_03]: Pink the pig is they're going to put lipstick on it and tell you it's a girl not a pig right like done it with a shon 15 off seasons in a row now
- 59:04[SPEAKER_03]: can it even get bad enough like we've seen these like the clips like will it even get bad enough where they'll admit it and just be like yeah we're playing shit or I don't think it will I think he could look this bad.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think you could see justice money clips put on Twitter every single day I think you could see justice when your reports from credible beat writers and stuff saying hey this guy doesn't have it at all and I think you could still I think almost nothing will stop to Sean from starting week one do you get that I think I do agree with that partially but I also
- 59:35[SPEAKER_04]: everyone always says Todd Monk and talks are really good game.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_04]: I want to know pause before I even go there.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_04]: How big is Todd's balls, right?
- 59:43[SPEAKER_04]: And what I mean by that is pause.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_04]: What I'm saying is when the Steelers had the Justin Fields conundrum, who was the backup quarterback then, would Justin Fields?
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: Was it just him and Russ, was it him and Russ, right, right, right, right, right, because it would be like one week, Russ was just so balls 80 feet in the air.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: Then the next week, Justin feels just run for a hundred.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_04]: So Mike Tomman had the stones, right?
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_04]: To even though the Pittsburgh Steelers were winning games with Justin Fields to be like, you know what?
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_04]: We got to bench you.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_04]: We got to move on to us.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'm wondering does it get to a point like let's just say we're playing that game and Deshawn Watson's in he doesn't look overly great, but you're still winning games, but you're looking at this quarterback position and you're like damn.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_04]: We got to go Shador, like does Todd have the stones to make that call and be like, you know what?
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't care that we're winning it.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's not how we're, it's not.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_04]: I don't like the way that we're winning games.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_04]: I know our offense could do more.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_04]: We have to move on.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_04]: That's my big question because Todd Munkin at the end of the day has full say in who's starting, who's playing and who he is.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_03]: I don't agree with that at all.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Todd Munkin does have a full say.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like, let me have no faith in here.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, no.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_04]: Let me ask you.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: Let me ask you this, if I'm putting true serum in you, you're telling me, you think there is that Jimmy Haslin has zero say on this quarterback battle with the guy he's paying $80 million this year.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_04]: I think that Jimmy Haslin,
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_04]: Again, has grown and they've been very transparent about what they have been doing and what they are doing and I think if you would or ask me this question three years ago.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'd be 100% with you.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_04]: I think now I think we're watching an owner operate how you want an owner to operate.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to sign the checks.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to stay back and he's
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_03]: We have a deal with you think I think Russell looking in a scenario where if we're being out like I think yes if you're looking at last season and what transpired last season, but I think we also got last season because of the Sean and his Achilles and him not being around.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think if like if you're in a world where to Sean finishes out that season or he wasn't or he doesn't retire the Achilles rather right and say he's scheduled to come back as a start of last year, I think you would have gotten to Sean week one last year and you
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_04]: We started the shan was out last year.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I'm saying I think if the shan was here last year It looks way different.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're getting all the shan like I don't think Kenny gets traded for no I don't like it comes in.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know I think you're getting no I don't agree with that because the year before you started one in six with the shan
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_04]: There was gonna come a point in time where it's like, okay, the whole entire 2024 season you fired your offensive coordinator, you brought in Ken Dorsey.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_04]: You literally didn't sign Joe Flacco after he took you to the playoffs because you didn't want to hurt the Sean Watson's fillings.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_04]: And then he comes out and the offense can't score more than 15 points.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_04]: And you're one in six before he tears his Achilles.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_04]: Oh hell no.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_04]: If you would have maybe seen the Sean week one, but that least would have be as short as you could possibly make it.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_04]: So not getting a whole year off.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_04]: No, because you have the twenty twenty seven draft ahead of you.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_04]: That's why I think it's going to be interesting for Todd Munkin to see how big his stones are because if you are winning games and to shine doesn't look great Is he going to have enough to pull the trigger and say we could still get more we got to make the quarterback change like Mike Tomman did with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: We shall see, Zay, if you are, if you're the head coach right now, what would be your strategy?
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: Just right now.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_04]: We'll do my strategy, survive camp, literally survive camp.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_04]: Honestly, I'm glad I'm not having to make the decision because for the reasons that you are like, I do want to, you know, give your Jimmy, because Jimmy has them as operated a certain way for so long.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_04]: I get why we throw the money into the conversation.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_04]: You have to be, you have to give the charm and not off-strictly the zeros that are on the paycheck.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like that's stupid if you don't at least look at it like from a business standpoint.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_04]: But at the other end of it, it's like,
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_04]: got a little bit of that money back.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_04]: You're pretty much recoup.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to say you recouped everything from Deshawn, but no one.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_04]: You'll never sell that argument to Browns fans.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_04]: But like we've rebounded pretty good these past couple years, right?
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_04]: Like so it's not,
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's one of those things where there will be a time, whether it's week one, whether it's week four or week eight, two will be on the field again at some point.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_04]: You have to see Shidorr before you go into this 2027 draft class and decide how much ammunition you're gonna fire to move up to get the quarterback that you want.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_04]: Because you may not need to exhaust any resources next year if one of these quarterbacks hit, that's on your roster.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_04]: And that's really the best case scenario.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we got to take a quick break.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back with more big play Cleveland right after this.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the big play Cleveland show.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's time to talk a little baseball and how the guards did at the Trade Deadline.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're bringing on Chris Jimenez.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, thanks so much for joining us.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for joining.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, thank you guys.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys for having me.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: We appreciate your time.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, if someone who knows the organization well and knows the team very well, we're kind of your reactions to all these moves that that were made at the Deadline.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_02]: My first reaction was, thank God, first of all, because we finally got some help and we needed it really badly, but most importantly, I think they absolutely crushed it, honestly, I think they did a fantastic job for as much crap as Chris Antonetti has been given from the fan base about not doing anything for this team.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_02]: They finally went out and they made some extremely smart moves, they got some controllability out of it.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_02]: All star pitcher, which I don't think anybody saw that coming, they added Joe Adele who we know is, you know, just a few homers away from a 40 plus homer season last year, maybe a little bit of a down here this year, which will be taken to a new fresh situation where he's reinvigorated being in a playoff race.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then I think Nate Lowell was a sneaky really good move.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's a great platoon partner to have with Reece Hoskins, they're at first base who in general has a tendency to crush lefties.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's been a little bit lean this year, but I thought they absolutely smashed it.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_02]: And oh yeah, by the way, they just added a leverage reliever too for bow-knockers.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_02]: So this was a major win and I really feel like they did everything they needed to do plus a little bit extra.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_03]: Chris you touched on it there for a quick second and I got to say I am just so thrilled that we have a right handed hitting power that playing baseball in Cleveland and uniform in the home dugout because it might be the first time that I can ever remember in my whole entire life what is Joe Adele added this ball club because obviously it's been a bit of a down year for a for him or more of a I guess non last year year for him against right handed pitching OPS a little bit bro
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_03]: 600, do you think he'll get any right handed bets at all?
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think we'll see him mostly as working against the last season?
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's trying to match there.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what do you think we ultimately get?
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like, people have been asking me like, what Joe Adele means this team?
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I've been kind of saying like a marble conversion of big Christmas.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_03]: Is that accurate?
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a good call right there, honestly, great place to eat too, by the way, I love very place.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, great place to eat, but yeah, I think that's a really good assessment of it, honestly.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_02]: He smashed his lefties.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_02]: He always has the right handed numbers this year.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned the OPS just below 600, excuse me.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that matters as much right now, just because you know what, that you get a guy out of a bad situation, he's going to automatically, like just the energy that's going to come up and I think he's going to be, I think the organization will be really smart, the types of pictures that he faces from the right side.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_02]: But I think you're going to see him in the line of almost every day.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're going to see him play some version of right field.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's probably going to get some D.H. at bats as well.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_02]: To keep CDL off of this feed a little bit more who's done an unbelievable job in right field and as a batter.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think he is the guy that this team kind of has been missing.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's under control for next year as well.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_02]: So this was a shrewd move in that regard.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, I know they had to give up co-sart to get him, but I feel like that's a worthwhile
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_02]: you know, expenditure at this point in time just because like we needed that guy we need a heart of the line up right ahead of that that can throw some thumb out there if you throw him into this line up today he's leading the team in RBIs and homers just like that so this guy's a guy that you know has been thrown around at the name at least has been thrown around as maybe this would be a good fit here from everything that I understand.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's an incredible human being too.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_02]: And if I know the front office as well as I do, that's the first thing that they look for.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to fit right into this clubhouse.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, taking man's art out, taking David Fryout from a clubhouse perspective is going to be a big knock, but you fill him with great guys like Joe Adel and Nate Low.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is the right kind of direction for this team to go.
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_04]: Chris, what does he need to, oh, sorry about that.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_04]: What does he need to do to kind of get back to that last year?
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_04]: The 40 almost 40 home runs caps like does just simply being in this line up around these hitters get him back to kind of that groove or what does he need to do to get back to that groove?
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's a fantastic question, and I think the easy answer is, yeah, getting him out of an eye.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_02]: Again, and this is not a knock on the angels by any way, shape, or form.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're kind of where they are, you know, for certain reasons, right?
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_02]: But getting him in a playoff type atmosphere, playing competitive baseball, playing in front of this fan base, I think is going to go a long way to really rejuvenating him as a player.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_02]: Now I do think him getting back to driving the ball to right center is going to be a big thing and that's something that I'm sure that they're going to address as soon as he's in the clubhouse here in a few hopefully in an hour or so, but I really really feel like getting him to drive that ball again or think driving the ball to right center field is really going to get him back on because when he's going well.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_02]: He takes the fastball out to right center and then anything spinning in the zone is smashed to let feel it again that's something that this team desperately needs but just getting him in this atmosphere with this group of guys in the 12 hours I think is going to go the long way for that as well.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, you don't need lenses as thick as mine to see how Nate Lowe is going to help about this ball club like you're adding in a 800 OPS against righties in the first base in Kyle Menzaro's been kind of struggling.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_03]: So obviously please feel feel free to speak to whatever you want to about Nate Lowe.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_03]: But I really want to ask you about Menzowe because I mean, it's just so tough like the kid comes up with it.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_03]: Under the year two years ago hits a home where in the playoffs against the Yankees last year breaks out has 20 homers like this year It's just like it hasn't been there like I'm sure he knows who Ralphie Polaskas is.
- 1:10:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure he's heard that name before it knows where that guy's at the organization Like do you think that this is the end of Kyle Manzardo's time in Cleveland or do you think we'll see like a Rejuvenated manzo next year maybe a September call up this year like what happens to Kyle Manzardo's time and Cleveland from here on out because it's to me I'm I'm scratching my head
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of every, you know, I think the coaching staff is to a certain extent, I think the front office is to a certain extent.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it started off with, you know, man's it was the unluckiest player immediately baseball for the first five weeks of the season.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I get it, that's hard to kind of quantify, you know, from a fan base perspective.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_02]: He was hitting the ball hard.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_02]: It just, where there was nothing to show for it.
- 1:11:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there wasn't a lot of home runs mixed into that until a little bit later as the season got along.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_02]: But I think, you know, you get unlucky for so long and I feel like I spent 10 years in the big leagues being unlucky and I'm still waiting for that hot streak.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_02]: But you start to like think that's who you are again, you know, it just it's natural if human instinct to try to change things and he's come out the last couple of weeks and talked about how he's been in between pigeons and that's a difficult thing.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_02]: to mentally handle, right?
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_02]: When you are used to hitting the ball a certain way and you were hitting the ball a certain way at the beginning of the season and weren't having any luck or nothing positive to show for it, it's natural reaction to try to change stuff a little bit.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_02]: So now you start to become in between on pitches and I just don't think he was ever really able to kind of get himself out of that spot.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now, going down pressure free environment and Columbus, again, nobody wants to be there.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_02]: If you've been in the big leagues for the last two and a half, three years.
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_02]: But I think if he can take this in stride, like Brian Rokio did last year, you know, Roke turned himself into a top 50 player in Major League Baseball this year.
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Because he went down, he didn't soak, he went down and took care of his business.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_02]: He worked on the things that they asked him to do and then he came up and he's been one of the most elite short stops.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_02]: in major league baseball since and I get to be played second base for a little bit too with another guy we have on the team played shortstop for a little bit.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like this is an opportunity for him to go down there and kind of take the pressure off of himself and have a little bit of fun again.
- 1:12:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know he's got a few teammates down there that he knows and again, not the best scenario for those guys, but if they go down there and take this thing and strive, I absolutely see both, you know, Nanzo and potentially David Fry being called back up because
- 1:12:55[SPEAKER_02]: Pride was at a tough spot too, like, let's be honest, man, I've been in that position.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's not easy when you don't get consistent at bats.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, really difficult to hit when you do get consistent at bats, but when you get very inconsistent at bats, it's even 10 times worse trying to hit.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_02]: So him getting consistency down there, I think it's going to go a long way for him.
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_02]: But those are two guys that I don't think are done in this organization.
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_02]: I would be absolutely shocked if Kyle Manzardo, if that's the last we've seen of him at the big league
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, let's kind of go down the list here, then foster Griffin.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_01]: We had the lefty out of Washington.
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think we're getting in him?
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And how do you think the organization is going to use him?
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I would be shocked if he's not a starter, first and foremost, and I don't know if they're planning on doing kind of what we saw last year that six man rotation, which was so successful the second half of the year, but we're getting a guy that throws tons of strikes that's limited hard contact this year, he kind of fits the Cleveland pitching profile.
- 1:13:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's got five pitches that he can throw for strikes.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_02]: You get a guy like this with, you know,
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Goldberg with Carl Willis, with everybody in this pitching department, who could maybe make a little tweak here and there, or just maybe a pitch distribution, you know, tweak.
- 1:14:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think this guy's got a chance to be a really, really high quality starter.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_02]: He was arguably their best starter in Washington.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_02]: He's a all-star this year.
- 1:14:13[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I think this is a trade that really nobody saw coming.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we heard, or at least I heard, you know, chances have been being extended in Washington and taking him off the table to now the sudden we acquire him
- 1:14:25[SPEAKER_02]: And again, this is a guy that has a chance to pitch in leverage type situations, whether that's a starter, which I'm assuming he's going to be a starter at some point this year, if it's not right out of the gate, but if you ask me if they just stick to that five-man rotation, Slade's probably the one that maybe slides into the bullpen.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_02]: I would imagine he's got incredible stuff he just hasn't really gotten on that roll that we saw and get on last year and I think the stuff probably takes up a little bit you know within kind of being a monster at the back end of this bullpen which certainly helps them out as well because they've been utilized pretty heavily so I would imagine he's a starter.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, for the rest of the season, and if you look at it, you've got Gavin, you've got Griffin, you've got Parker Messick, you got Tanner, and then Joey can't till that is a disgusting starting five and they were already really good and let's not forget there's only been one other guy to take a start for this team this year and that was Logan Allen in the back end of a double header and the only reason he did it is because they ramed kind of screwed the schedule up so.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think they made a great move in this one, and again, something that you added to a position of depth already, which is only going to help you further on down the season.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_04]: So now that you talked about the starter, they add a reliever as well, Chris Yohol coming from Milwaukee, what makes him interesting and how does he fit into this cleavable pin?
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think, you know, just look at the way Milwaukee hit used him, you know, in the previous part of this season.
- 1:15:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's thrown 20 or, I think he's thrown right around 40 innings for the brewers.
- 1:15:50[SPEAKER_02]: And he's been elite.
- 1:15:51[SPEAKER_02]: His change up is no joke.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_02]: And that's something that
- 1:15:55[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen other organizations try to take into consideration.
- 1:15:59[SPEAKER_02]: The only reason I say this is the Yankees.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_02]: The Yankees love guys that throw change-ups and splits because it can kind of neutralize both right and left side of hitters, right?
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_02]: So you don't have to be so platoon-sided in regards to the lefties and the righties.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I would have loved to have seen them go out and add maybe another left-handed, you know, relief pitcher, but they sign right and break you who can be that guy.
- 1:16:19[SPEAKER_02]: Tim here and still we haven't got the best out of him yet.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_02]: which I don't know if you may be rushed himself back from the I.L.
- 1:16:28[SPEAKER_02]: He just hasn't looked the same, you know, since he's come back.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_02]: And again, this now gives them a little bit more opportunity to kind of slow play him a little bit.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_02]: And let's not forget, they used him very heavily at the beginning of the year.
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's a two time time Tommy John survivors.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_02]: So we got to be paying attention to that part of things as well.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_02]: But I think this kid could be a monster.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think he could be a seventh or an eighth ending guy.
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_02]: Colin Holderman's been a God send for this team.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_02]: Taking a lot of pressure off 100 gattys who again had a little bit of a slow start.
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_02]: K is K. He's the best reliever in baseball.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_02]: But to me, another shrewd move, you get six years of control with this guy too.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_02]: So this is another leverage reliever that we could see in the back end of this pen for the next five or six years.
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, when we're celebrating the 2,026 World Series, knocking back a couple of beers, celebrate the decade anniversary in 2036.
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_03]: Are we going to remember it as the trade-out line that we traded for Joe Adel or the trade-out line that we traded for Nathaniel Low?
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's a really good question.
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's actually a really good question.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_03]: I thought of it, thank you.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll credit to you, buddy.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, I would love to take your pick really, but I would love for it to be the trade deadline we remembered that we traded for Joe Adele, because I think this dude has had the most upside of a lot of prospects the last few years, in particular.
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_02]: He was a complete untouchable.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_02]: He was the next Mike trout in regards to how the people and Anaheim thought about him, right?
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was untouchable up until the recent time where they've had a little switch over in their front office, John Mosaic, now in kind of an advisory slash like interim GM role.
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_02]: And he was tasked for the first time ever.
- 1:18:08[SPEAKER_02]: with anybody's on the table except for I guess my truck right because he's got the no trade clause and he's obviously said to his credit he wants to be there and I appreciate that of him but Joe Adele was untouchable up until this year and to me this is the dude that if you can get the best version of him that's a 40-in-home run bat in the heart of your lineup that plays a premium position in right field he's also a solid outfielder I'm not going to say
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_02]: So that type of thump in the heart of this lineup where you got guys that are capable of getting on base, but they just really had to rely on that one big hit that they haven't had a lot of this year, that's me's the guy that, you know, it's going to be that bruiser in the middle of the lineup then again you add nothing below the dudes in on base monster like he's a premium veteran hitter.
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Again, left-handed, which we have plenty of those guys, but this dude can handle left and right-handed pitching and, oh, yeah, by the way, he's a World Series champion, so he knows what it takes to get there in the win the thing.
- 1:19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Again, another great addition to the clubhouse side of things.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_02]: He loves to keep things light.
- 1:19:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's hilarious.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_02]: I've had a chance to talk with him a few times in Tampa Bay in Texas, and he's just a really, really good human being, and I think that's going to play well here, too.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_02]: But if you had that, you were holding the gun to my head, I'd say Joe would know.
- 1:19:23[SPEAKER_04]: They often say history repeats itself, and 10 years ago, the Indians made a huge move at the deadline that propelled us to, you know, the world series.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_04]: Is this another, is, are these moves enough to get us to that feeling that we had in 2016?
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_04]: We were like, oh my gosh, we look back at this deadline, and here we are the world series.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_02]: That isn't also a really good question.
- 1:19:49[SPEAKER_02]: And thank you, I thought of it.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to start thinking more, I guess, man, I'm not very smart on my feet here.
- 1:19:56[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like, man, that year in 2016 was we added the best reliever at the deadline.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_02]: Then they went out and added a premium catcher who ended up deciding to do a different thing.
- 1:20:11[SPEAKER_02]: They went for it wholeheartedly there.
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if the moves that they made this year again, this is not taking anything away from any of these guys that they just acquired.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if the moves on paper are as big.
- 1:20:23[SPEAKER_02]: from a name standpoint, but I think they potentially could play as big because there's a little bit more there, right?
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_02]: We added Andrew Miller, we added Brandon Gire, Cocoa Chris, a little bit later.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, those were Cocoa and B.G.
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_02]: were a huge role player guys, like role type guys that played a massive role in that team, making it to the world series in game seven and particular.
- 1:20:46[SPEAKER_02]: And let's not forget, if it wasn't for Brandon Gire getting a double in that any Rajay Davis never comes up with a chance to tie the game anyway.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think both of these two guys that they acquired could potentially be those roll-type players and you really hope that Foster Griffin is that guy that really helps anchor and lockdown this rotation.
- 1:21:05[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know if they were like as big of names as Andrew Miller is because Miller time was I mean we got a guy from the Yankees and we went for it.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_02]: We traded like five of our four of our top 10 prospects which
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't necessarily do that this year and I think that's a credit to Chris Anthony and Mike Turnoff that they were able to kind of trade from some depth that they have in the minor leaks right now without really giving away your top end prospects.
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_02]: Put it end up being that and should it end up being that yes, it should and this should be something that really gets this fan base excited because they went out and addressed absolutely every concern plus some and I again got to give them credit.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_03]: Chris last question for you, and thank you again for your time.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_03]: I know you're running.
- 1:21:47[SPEAKER_03]: You're running.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_03]: I've been jumping around.
- 1:21:49[SPEAKER_03]: We we juxtapose the schedule.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_03]: We were lucky enough to be able to run into you and get you Chris part of the deadline is obviously what you do and what you go out and get and who you're giving up.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_03]: Another part of the deadline that's probably equally as important, though, in my opinion, is what everyone else in your division is doing.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_03]: And it was an up and down division, we can, for our division, especially our good friends up the road into Troy.
- 1:22:12[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, what do you make of the rest of the division and how it relates to the Guardians chances to win the division in 2026?
- 1:22:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, again, I think credit needs to be given the twins.
- 1:22:22[SPEAKER_02]: They went for it.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what a difference of your makes, right?
- 1:22:24[SPEAKER_02]: And last year, we saw the twins in Cleveland, Entry, Deadline Day get rid of 10 players up their major league roster this year.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_02]: They added six.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_02]: So they were, again, one of the most
- 1:22:35[SPEAKER_02]: You know, aggressive, I guess, is the best way to put it teams at the trade deadline in acquiring players.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_02]: They got better.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's no doubt about it.
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_02]: And they also, they didn't get rid of Ryan Jeffers.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't get rid of Trevor Lorna, who were both having really good seasons this year.
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_02]: They added a couple of lever charms at the back end of their bullpen, which has been a major issue for them.
- 1:22:55[SPEAKER_02]: And they added a start in Dean Cramer who, I don't think we've seen the best of this year.
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_02]: I like the guy
- 1:23:04[SPEAKER_02]: The white socks kind of played around the peripheral.
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now what I mean by this is, I thought they did a really, really good job of not dipping into their prospect.
- 1:23:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now I'm gonna preface this with this.
- 1:23:17[SPEAKER_02]: The last time they went through a rebuild part of the issue was
- 1:23:20[SPEAKER_02]: they traded everybody in anybody and had no depth left to acquire that one piece or two pieces that they may have needed to get them over the top.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_02]: That isn't the case this year.
- 1:23:30[SPEAKER_02]: They went out, they got Britain going, it could very well be the best defensive center builder in baseball, not named Byron, but since then now those two guys are in the same division, which is awesome for everybody else.
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_02]: But they got a guy that can go up there and play elite defense.
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Is he the greatest offensive player?
- 1:23:45[SPEAKER_02]: No, but they didn't need that out of that position.
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_02]: They also went out and got their backup teacher of the future in Joey Parkman.
- 1:23:52[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle Till comes back.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's a right-hand and left-hand component.
- 1:23:54[SPEAKER_02]: Parkman run into one plus he can handle this young pitching staff.
- 1:23:58[SPEAKER_02]: What they didn't necessarily address it, I guess maybe as well as I would have liked to have seen them just from an outsider's perspective is the back end of this book and they got rid of seranthony dominas they brought in a couple other slower you're not slower, but maybe they throw a little bit slower, but they're lower, you know, main type guys at the back end of that pen.
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_02]: Again, you just wonder if that's the issue or that's the thing that may keep this team from really taking that next step this year.
- 1:24:25[SPEAKER_02]: All signs point to them going full steam ahead.
- 1:24:27[SPEAKER_02]: This sentence is no joke.
- 1:24:30[SPEAKER_02]: The whites aren't so good.
- 1:24:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like we've got to admit that.
- 1:24:32[SPEAKER_02]: But to me, that young group is they're not battle tested.
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that they can't be, I just think
- 1:24:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's a team that when the pressure really starts to ramp up here in the next month or so, you're really interested in on watching it, you know, from an outsider's perspective, how in the world is that group going to take that pressure and run with it?
- 1:24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Can they take it, you know, not let it affect them and just continue out there and play carefree baseball?
- 1:24:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's a question that I think needs to be answered here in the next month plus, but the white sauce cup better, I don't think they went all in getting better because they were pretty good as they were anyway.
- 1:25:07[SPEAKER_02]: But to me, Cleva now is the best team in the division, and I think they're obviously the most battle test as well.
- 1:25:13[SPEAKER_02]: They've been in the situation before the two-time defending, you know, champions of the American League Central, and now they're kind of staring down a third one as well.
