- Brandon: Well, welcome once again to the Daily Word podcast. My name is Brandon, and I am one of the pastors here at our church. And today, on behalf of our senior pastors, Pastor Gill and Debbie, on behalf of our entire team, on behalf of really our church family, if you're not a part of our church, welcome to the podcast. We are so thrilled to have you here today and think it's such a high privilege and high honor to be able to share with you from God's Word. ⁓ if you're just tuning in or you forgot, the rhythm of this podcast simply is to everyday share from the New Testament portion in the Life Journal Reading Plan. So the Life Journal Reading Plan, it's not the only Bible reading plan, but it's the one that we use for our church. And ⁓ that reading plan has an old testament and a new testament, and we simply share ⁓ our journaling. ⁓ in in our journaling kind of method, you it's not legalistic, but ⁓ scripture, observation, application, prayer, super helpful method for studying the Bible, ⁓ especially just daily reading, saying, God, every day give me a scripture, something that sticks out to me. ⁓ I'm gonna make an observation. What is it saying? What does it mean? And then from that observation, I'm gonna find an application to my life. How is this going to impact me today? And then from that application, gonna form a prayer or response saying, God, help me to live that out. And so we're just sharing our journaling in hopes to encourage you and remind you that God wants to speak to you. So, all right, today is July the 14th. And ⁓ the New Testament reading today, my goodness, Hebrews chapter 11. What a what what a passage. And ⁓ we just started a series this past week ⁓ called Faith, the Life We Now Live here at our church. If you're not a part of our church, go to our YouTube channel, our podcast, tune in, listen to the message. But just started the series, Faith, the Life We Now Live, talking about the subject of faith and how faith is not just something that's an intellectual ascent. Faith isn't just merely believing something, but faith is now the it's the life, it's the pattern, it's who we are. The Bible says we walk not by sight, but we walk by faith. And I'm gonna give you a little preview. Little preview of the sermon this upcoming Sunday. Now I don't know if the sermon will come out exactly like this, but I know this is kind of in the vein of what we're gonna preach, but but because I'm thinking about it, it was my journal entry insight today. And so I'm gonna share it with you. Hebrews chapter 11, verse 8. Here's what it says By faith, by faith, Abraham he obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out not knowing where he was going. I love that verse. And it's the verse that we're ⁓ most likely going to be preaching on this next Sunday, ⁓ talking about how faith it it really is a life. It's it's the life we we now live. Again, 2 Corinthians 5 7, we walk by faith, not by sight. What we're no longer living by what we can see, what makes sense to us, what we have figured out. No, we are living. By faith, confidence, and trust in what God has said. And here in this passage, what we see is that Abraham did know something. He knew something. Because God came to him and God said in Genesis chapter 12, Abraham, ⁓ I'm asking you to leave your father and mother and go to a land that I will show you, and I'm going to bless you. I'm gonna make your name great, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed. He knew that. He he knew that God was making him a promise. He knew that God said he was gonna be with him and he wouldn't leave him or forsake him. He he knew that there was a reward on the other side of his obedience. He knew God, God was with him, God was gonna bless him. He knew that. So, so so faith is knowing something. I I know what God's promised, I know what God said, I know what God spoke to me, but but he also didn't know because Genesis chapter 12, God comes to Abraham and says, Abraham. Go to a place that I will show you. In other words, you just start walking, you just start moving, you just start living. Go to a place, and as you are on the way, I will show you. And here's what Hebrews 11:8 says. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. That's good preaching, but that's hard living right there. I mean, I know we're on a podcast, but if if this was in person, I'd be like, can I get a witness in the back? Be because that's that's good preaching, but it's hard living, isn't it? He went out not knowing where he was going. The the observation I want to make here today is that oftentimes the life of faith is a life where we are in obedience, going with what we know, and that's what what what that's with what God said. And yet we can't yet see how it's gonna work out. We don't know God's timing, we don't know when God will do it. We don't know how God will. I know what God said, I know what God's promised, I just don't know when he's gonna do it, or how he's gonna do it, or what it's He went out without knowing. And my my application today really is a reminder to me and you, and that is that this is the life God's called us to live. God has called us to live a life again, we're not walking by sight, but walking by faith. He's called us to live a life that we are receiving from him instructions. We're receiving from him his word. We're receiving from him. What he's asking us to do and the promises of God. And then we are obeying, although we cannot see how it's gonna work out. God says, I want you to start tithing and giving. Well, God, I but I don't know like how how we're gonna pay our bills. He he goes, go without knowing. God God says, I want you to leave this job. I don't want you to pick your family up and move across the country. Yeah, God, but what are we gonna do? I don't know, but go without knowing. ⁓ God says, I I need you to break up with this person and just trust me. That it's okay to be single. Yeah, God, but how's it gonna go without knowing? That so much of the life of faith, it it is taking steps of obedience that we can't yet and we don't yet know how it's all, but we trust God and we believe God. And I just want to encourage you today. The application is do whatever God's telling you to do. So start with the Bible, obey the Bible, no compromise. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, you know the Bible says that sex outside of marriage is sin. So I'm not gonna do that. Well, yeah, but this person I'm with I'm dating right now, if we don't have sex, that the they're they're gonna they're gonna break up with me. Okay. Well then I guess that you're gonna be single. Go. Obey. Well, yeah, you know you know the Bible says that that that I ri really do need to be planted in the house of God, but but that means I'm gonna need to find a different job. Okay, cool. Well God's gonna help you find a job. I I I could think of probably a hundred examples. Those two just came to mind off the top of my head. But the point is the application is do what God's telling you to do. Obey God no matter what. And if you don't know what God's telling you to do, start there. Start seeking God and asking God and going to God and saying, God, speak to me. God talk to me. God lead me. God guide me because I want to live a life of faith and I want to go. And do whatever you're asking me to do, even though I don't know how it's gonna work out, because I am walking not by sight, but walking by faith. Faith is knowing something, but faith is not knowing everything. And faith, this life we're called to live, it is simply doing, going, obeying what God's asked us to do. And so, God, I pray for everyone listening, including myself, and I pray that you would help us to obey your word. Help us, God, to know what you're asking us to do. And I pray that God, even though we don't know how it might work out or when it might work out, that because we trust you, you'll give us the confidence and the courage to take a step of faith and walk in obedience. We thank you for it today in Jesus' name. Amen and amen. Well, hey, once again, thank you for joining us. And ⁓ we'll see you tomorrow. Hope you were encouraged. Hope God's speaking to you. And we'll see you tomorrow on another episode of the Daily Word Podcast.
