- 0:03yesterday we asked for some trash talking
- 0:05today we got a handful let's talk about
- 0:08it next
- 0:20I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:22and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:23I always take what I want,
- 0:25and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:26Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:28Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:29I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:31Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:32Now wake up!
- 0:34It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:36Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:38friend to me.
- 0:39It's not working out,
- 0:40maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:42It's time to break up so I can
- 0:43make a better me.
- 0:44The Avenue!
- 0:50It's lunchtime.
- 0:52What is going on, everybody?
- 0:55Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:57It is a chilly Tuesday afternoon here in
- 0:59Ohio.
- 1:00Good to be with you all.
- 1:02It is currently thirteen degrees.
- 1:04Man, it is just freaking cold.
- 1:08And the older I get,
- 1:09the worse it is for me to tolerate
- 1:12it.
- 1:12I used to love the cold.
- 1:13I used to love going outside,
- 1:15getting that fresh winter air.
- 1:18And now, man, hell with that.
- 1:23It is so dang cold.
- 1:26Forty nine in Austin, Texas.
- 1:29We got Frida.
- 1:30We got Vicky.
- 1:31We've got Amanda.
- 1:33We've got Meredith.
- 1:34Joseph trained all of in the house.
- 1:39Man, twenties in D.C.
- 1:45Our feel like temp was a balmy one
- 1:47degree at our house this morning.
- 1:48Yeah,
- 1:49we're probably somewhere around that.
- 1:52Yeah.
- 1:53Wild, wild day.
- 1:55But so glad to be inside,
- 1:57even though my basement is freezing.
- 2:00Thirty in Nashville.
- 2:01Man.
- 2:03Think down in Tennessee,
- 2:04it wouldn't be as bad,
- 2:05but that's below freezing, too.
- 2:09So, okay.
- 2:11So what is going on, everybody?
- 2:13Don't forget to like and subscribe to the
- 2:14channel.
- 2:15Hit that like button.
- 2:16It really helps the algorithm.
- 2:18If you could do that,
- 2:19it would be awesome.
- 2:20I would truly, truly appreciate it.
- 2:24Yeah.
- 2:25Holy cow.
- 2:26Down in Florida, it's thirty nine degrees.
- 2:29That would shut down the town when I
- 2:31live there.
- 2:32I lived in Tallahassee.
- 2:33If it got below,
- 2:35if it got down in the thirties, man,
- 2:36nobody came to work.
- 2:42Vicki wants to know if everyone is
- 2:43registered for the open.
- 2:46I've got a,
- 2:47I had a situation this weekend with my
- 2:49daughter where I had to get her some
- 2:51money over some like identity theft stuff.
- 2:55So I didn't sign up yet,
- 2:58but I will,
- 2:59I will definitely do it within the next
- 3:01week for sure.
- 3:05Frozen iguanas in Florida, I guess.
- 3:11Joseph Ramirez wants to know,
- 3:12did the refs screw up the NFL playoffs?
- 3:15We talked about this after the show last
- 3:17night, the Sunday night show on a Monday.
- 3:21You know,
- 3:22everybody complains about the judging at
- 3:23CrossFit.
- 3:25This weekend, man,
- 3:27I didn't have a dog in the fight
- 3:29until the Bears game.
- 3:30So I was watching the games,
- 3:32and I felt like the refs were not
- 3:34consistent in the way they called the
- 3:37games.
- 3:39Yeah.
- 3:42So my answer,
- 3:44Joseph is I do think they screwed it
- 3:45up this weekend.
- 3:46Um,
- 3:47the other thing I can say is like
- 3:49the bills, I think the one,
- 3:51a couple of the place could have been
- 3:52called differently,
- 3:53but they played bad too.
- 3:55So it's like, yeah,
- 3:57you could blame the refs, but in addition,
- 3:59you got to blame yourself too.
- 4:01Just like the bears,
- 4:02like they just played bad at the end
- 4:04of the game.
- 4:04They made some bad decisions.
- 4:08You know, that stuff happens.
- 4:09You want to blame somebody else,
- 4:11but really you just have to look in
- 4:13the mirror.
- 4:13So, yeah.
- 4:18I trade all of it snowed in North
- 4:19Florida this week.
- 4:21I moved to Tallahassee,
- 4:22Florida in nineteen ninety six.
- 4:25The first week I moved there, it snowed.
- 4:29I was moving from Pennsylvania.
- 4:31I moved to Florida.
- 4:32I thought, oh my gosh,
- 4:33now I get all this winter heat.
- 4:35It's going to be awesome.
- 4:37And it snowed literally the first week I
- 4:39lived there.
- 4:42And then, of course,
- 4:43then it became just hellish heat from that
- 4:46point forward.
- 4:47But for a week,
- 4:48it wasn't like I really moved much.
- 4:52Frozen iguana sounds like a good name for
- 4:54a cocktail.
- 4:55Yeah.
- 4:57Hey, bartender, I'll take a frozen iguana.
- 5:03I used to bartend in college.
- 5:05And I used to have a guy that
- 5:07would come in and give me like a
- 5:08nickname or a name.
- 5:09And I would try to come up with
- 5:11a drink that kind of represented what he
- 5:14would call it, right?
- 5:16Without anything.
- 5:18And the one I remember the most is
- 5:20he wanted a kryptonite.
- 5:22and so i took like like melon liqueur
- 5:26and some blue and i never have been
- 5:29able to pronounce it blue karaka um and
- 5:32mix them together to give this like
- 5:34clearish blue green
- 5:38um to the drink with some ice and
- 5:40uh uh some some like seven up um
- 5:44and it it it looked awesome and it
- 5:46actually tasted pretty good too um but i
- 5:49would try to make up so maybe i
- 5:52don't drink anymore uh so i don't have
- 5:54the stuff to do it but i would
- 5:55i'd love to come up with a frozen
- 5:57iguana or frozen did we say iguana yeah
- 6:00frozen iguana uh curacao is how it's
- 6:05pronounced okay
- 6:12Midori and Blue Curacao.
- 6:14Yeah.
- 6:15I think though I used the cheap melon
- 6:17liqueur and not the Midori.
- 6:29Rum and melon liqueur and something to
- 6:31make it green.
- 6:33Yeah,
- 6:33the melon liqueur was green and the blue
- 6:37curacao was blue.
- 6:38And together it made like a prismic
- 6:42looking blue green.
- 6:45And then, yeah,
- 6:47you could have added vodka, rum,
- 6:49anything to it.
- 6:50It would have been fine.
- 6:53But you needed the fizz from like a
- 6:55seven up or like to make it kind
- 6:59of bubble to give it that iridescent look.
- 7:04So anyway,
- 7:07the opening of the show was talking about
- 7:10trash talking.
- 7:11We talked about that yesterday and how we
- 7:14need to have more trash talking to have
- 7:16more storylines.
- 7:18And man,
- 7:18who knew in the next twenty four hours
- 7:20I was going to get a whole handful
- 7:22of it.
- 7:23So I'm going to start with this this
- 7:26Instagram post by one Mr. Austin Hatfield.
- 7:30I don't know if you guys have seen
- 7:31this.
- 7:33Yeah.
- 7:36On his Instagram post,
- 7:37I'm going to blow up the words here
- 7:39so you can see it.
- 7:41Bro, that is the weakest shit ever,
- 7:43being coached by the guy who programs your
- 7:46comp.
- 7:48And so Austin posted those comments that
- 7:50someone sent to him doing bar muscle-ups
- 7:54rapidly.
- 7:56And then the text with it is,
- 7:59Chihuahuas always bark at the big dogs.
- 8:02See you at the Mayhem Classic.
- 8:07So that's part one to this story.
- 8:11Then we have part two.
- 8:17And this is the first example of this.
- 8:25So this was a go between
- 8:32Let me get out of here.
- 8:34Where is that at?
- 8:35So I can see it up close.
- 8:41So anyway,
- 8:42it is between Dallin Pepper and Austin
- 8:45Hatfield.
- 8:47And at the top,
- 8:49I don't know if you can see that,
- 8:51it is Austin Hatfield putting James
- 8:54Spriggs' Instagram handle and Dallin
- 8:55Pepper's and then the word soft under it.
- 8:59On the other side,
- 9:00it says Ricky Garrard and Jay Crouch don't
- 9:03want that BTA,
- 9:06which I believe means beat that ass.
- 9:10But that's what I know it from from
- 9:13football.
- 9:14So Austin posted that tagging those in it.
- 9:17Dallin reposts it and says,
- 9:20imagine not being able to back it up
- 9:22at the games with a yawn face.
- 9:30Mark Phillips,
- 9:31this is the trash talking we were asking
- 9:33for.
- 9:33Exactly.
- 9:34Exactly.
- 9:35This is it right down the fairway.
- 9:39So, Dallin responds,
- 9:40imagine not being able to back that up
- 9:42at the games.
- 9:44Then we go to exhibit B of this
- 9:47exchange.
- 9:49Let me stop this share.
- 9:51Holy cow.
- 9:52I am all out of whack.
- 9:55Okay.
- 10:03We have this one where Austin comes back
- 10:13posting the other two comments.
- 10:15Imagine not being able to run or win
- 10:17a comp.
- 10:20Yawny face snail.
- 10:24Then Dallin responds to that by saying,
- 10:26I can't run and you still can't beat
- 10:28me.
- 10:31This stuff is awesome, man.
- 10:34This stuff is awesome.
- 10:35This is what I'm talking about.
- 10:38Now,
- 10:39aren't you more interested in watching
- 10:41Dallin and Austin go head-to-head at the
- 10:43next event?
- 10:45Don't you want to see who wins this?
- 10:49Because I sure as heck do.
- 10:56I am all bought in.
- 10:58I'm all bought in on these two going
- 11:00head-to-head at the next competition.
- 11:02I don't know when it is because Dallin's
- 11:04not doing Mayhem.
- 11:07And I don't know what they're doing at
- 11:09Wadapalooza,
- 11:10but I'm betting they're not doing
- 11:12individual at Wadapalooza.
- 11:14So probably the next time we will see
- 11:16this is either at a WFP event or
- 11:19the CrossFit Games.
- 11:24Mark Phillips says, if you lose,
- 11:26don't eat crow either.
- 11:27You got to double down.
- 11:29I agree.
- 11:31I agree.
- 11:32You just keep it coming, man.
- 11:35Until there's a point where you're toasted
- 11:39on the smack talk, right?
- 11:43Here's a great example that I've lived.
- 11:45The Bears and the Packers.
- 11:47For years, for years, we were the nail.
- 11:50They were the hammer.
- 11:51we were getting hacked or hammered to
- 11:54death and never winning a game and so
- 11:56for the bears to talk trash talk during
- 11:58that time just became irrelevant nobody
- 12:01gave two shits what they said about uh
- 12:04the green bay packers now this year they
- 12:06play three games all determined on the
- 12:09last play or overtime of the game and
- 12:14the trash talking is at new heights
- 12:16because it matters now.
- 12:18So as long as these two athletes are
- 12:21relevant through the season,
- 12:22this trash talking is freaking awesome.
- 12:27I just rumors old school shit talking.
- 12:30Yes.
- 12:31Yes.
- 12:32This is what we need to pique our
- 12:33interest.
- 12:35So now we've got Austin Hatfield involved.
- 12:37We've got Colton Mertens involved.
- 12:38We've got the boys interrupted involved.
- 12:42I just would like to see it spread
- 12:44to the women's side a little bit.
- 12:47Uh,
- 12:47some people talking some trash over there.
- 12:50And I'd also like to see a little
- 12:51more outside this group of, of people, um,
- 12:58If you didn't watch Boys Interrupted last
- 13:00night, Jason Hopper basically said,
- 13:02he's coming to mayhem,
- 13:03and there are only two athletes that even
- 13:06scare him a little.
- 13:08And one of them is Jeff Adler,
- 13:09and he didn't name the other,
- 13:11but he said it was between Roman, Colton,
- 13:13and Austin.
- 13:17So once you figure out the other one,
- 13:19the other two, he is totally,
- 13:22totally dissing.
- 13:23And you know Colton is taking it as
- 13:27an insult to him already,
- 13:28putting that chip on his shoulder,
- 13:30and he's ready to do business.
- 13:36He is ready to defend himself at Mayhem
- 13:39against Hopper.
- 13:41You know Colton is just writhing,
- 13:45ready to go.
- 13:46Because Colton is one of those athletes
- 13:47that need the chip on his shoulder to
- 13:50motivate him to go forward.
- 13:52That's what he uses as his fuel,
- 13:54and it's awesome.
- 13:58Frida says,
- 13:59the sad thing is that it usually becomes
- 14:01personal when women do this.
- 14:03I guess,
- 14:04I think the sad thing for me is
- 14:06the person that it would be best at
- 14:11this isn't competing in our season.
- 14:17I think Laura has trash talked in the
- 14:19past.
- 14:20And yes, she's probably,
- 14:22and we've talked about this yesterday,
- 14:24right?
- 14:26Daniel Brandon trash talks,
- 14:27I just don't think she's really good at
- 14:29it.
- 14:30And when someone comes back at her,
- 14:32she doesn't take it super well.
- 14:38Where Laura doesn't care what you think.
- 14:40So she's willing to say those things and
- 14:43she's okay with being the bad guy.
- 14:46But the bad part is she's established this
- 14:49really cool heel character that we don't
- 14:51even get to see in the game season.
- 14:54I mean, I hope I'm wrong.
- 14:55I hope she signs up for the open
- 14:57and she does the open.
- 14:58I think that would be amazing for the
- 15:00women's side of the bracket.
- 15:02But I don't think she is.
- 15:05And I'm sad that she doesn't.
- 15:14Vicky, yeah, DB trash talks,
- 15:15but it's coming from taking it personally.
- 15:18Laura doesn't give a crap.
- 15:19Exactly.
- 15:20Exactly.
- 15:20Exactly.
- 15:23Joseph Ramirez,
- 15:25don't dish it out if you can't take
- 15:26the smoke.
- 15:28It's working for Danielle because nobody
- 15:30else is even doing it.
- 15:32And so it's made her wildly popular with
- 15:35the people in that I don't give a
- 15:37shit world.
- 15:39Right?
- 15:40But
- 15:41But she doesn't have a tough enough skin
- 15:45to, like, hold up to it yet.
- 15:47And maybe she will someday.
- 15:48Maybe she won't.
- 15:49Maybe that's just her personality.
- 15:50I don't know.
- 15:52But Laura has the tough skin.
- 15:54She really does not give a shit what
- 15:55you think at all.
- 16:00And I'm sad that that's not going to
- 16:02be a part of the season if,
- 16:05in fact,
- 16:05she doesn't sign up for the Open.
- 16:08There's one other thing I wanted to show
- 16:09from Instagram before we kind of move on
- 16:12to other things.
- 16:13It's a new,
- 16:16it's a new post by CrossFit featuring Tia
- 16:21Toomey.
- 16:24And I'm going to try to pause it
- 16:25to the right thing and then open it
- 16:27for you.
- 16:27But I think it's,
- 16:29it's got kind of that message.
- 16:31So we,
- 16:34we all know that that tia is pregnant
- 16:36and most likely is not competing this
- 16:39season so crossfit put together this reel
- 16:42and i'll try to blow it up as
- 16:45much as possible here's the ladies and
- 16:48gentlemen
- 17:06So what's awesome about that is they know
- 17:08she's not going to be there.
- 17:10The championship is open for anybody to
- 17:13take and they put in the line who's
- 17:16got next.
- 17:17It's out there for everyone to take.
- 17:21And who's going to grab it?
- 17:23Who's going to grab it?
- 17:25Because Tia isn't going to defend it this
- 17:27year.
- 17:28Who is coming after it?
- 17:30And in the verbiage on this one,
- 17:34the most dominant games athlete of all
- 17:35time started each title run with the open.
- 17:38Will we see Tia on the games competition
- 17:42floor again?
- 17:43If not, who's got next?
- 17:46Next.
- 17:50It's right there.
- 17:51It's right there for everyone to take.
- 17:54Who's going to grab it?
- 17:57I thought that was a great marketing piece
- 17:59by the games team.
- 18:03Because that's a storyline.
- 18:05That is truly a storyline that they're
- 18:07embracing.
- 18:08And I think that it's awesome that they're
- 18:10doing so.
- 18:13Awesome that they're doing so.
- 18:14I think that really sends a great message.
- 18:19It all starts in the open.
- 18:21Everybody gets to play,
- 18:22and the championship is wide open for
- 18:24anyone to go after.
- 18:26Who's got it?
- 18:31Don't forget,
- 18:32our presenting sponsor is Thirdsy.
- 18:34Thirdsy is the sleep aid and recovery tool
- 18:36that I use every single night to get
- 18:38the best night's sleep I've had in years.

- 18:54get fifteen percent off your order that

- 18:58them.
- 18:58They are the people that support us and
- 19:00we appreciate them so much.
- 19:03So the next thing I have,
- 19:05I wanted to talk to you guys about
- 19:06is I'm going to share another screen.
- 19:09And that is, well, not that.
- 19:18Okay.
- 19:19Um,
- 19:20I saw this on Instagram on Instagram today
- 19:22and it was on, uh, Jenny dense updates,
- 19:26a story.
- 19:27So I screenshotted it and this was here
- 19:32and I,
- 19:32and I have some thoughts about this.
- 19:35So it's actually posted by,
- 19:38and I'm trying to read this Coppola,
- 19:41a kilo Coppola kilo Coppola kilo.
- 19:45Um,
- 19:47Anyone remember the Central East Regionals
- 19:49back in the day?
- 19:51Two-level competition, nowhere to hide.
- 19:55Top-level competition, nowhere to hide.
- 19:57Choices were made for you.
- 19:59Life wasn't fair.
- 20:00Elite guys were going to miss out.
- 20:03Gone are the days of fighting.
- 20:04Now it's mostly self-negotiation.
- 20:07And what's better for me,
- 20:09it's different now.
- 20:10It's just different now.
- 20:13So I know we all love regionals,
- 20:16and I love regionals too.
- 20:18I thought it was great for the community.
- 20:19I thought it brought a lot of fans
- 20:21to the ballpark.
- 20:22I thought that you had great competitions.
- 20:27But let's not fool ourselves.
- 20:29There was self-negotiation in the regional
- 20:33days.
- 20:35To make this statement,
- 20:36you're forgetting some very significant
- 20:38facts.
- 20:41Dan Bailey left the Central East and went
- 20:43to California and lived on a boat for
- 20:45a better shot at making the games.
- 20:48Margo Alvarez competed in like three or
- 20:50four different regionals,
- 20:52bouncing from regional to regional to have
- 20:54better shots at the games.
- 20:56And they are just two of several people
- 20:59who bounced from hard regions to easy
- 21:03regions to have better shots at the games.
- 21:06It happened all the time.
- 21:08Things weren't chosen for you as long as
- 21:11you had a residence inside that region
- 21:14before,
- 21:14I think it was January first of the
- 21:18game's calendar season.
- 21:20You were then put in that competitive
- 21:22region for that year.
- 21:26So to say that it's different now,
- 21:29just different now, it isn't.
- 21:33Yes,
- 21:33Central East had a murderous row of
- 21:35athletes in it at times.
- 21:38But a lot of people made the choice
- 21:39to get up and get out and move
- 21:42to a different location so that they had
- 21:45an easier path to the games.
- 21:49And I hate the fact that people are
- 21:51attacking,
- 21:52especially the boys interrupted,
- 21:54about turning down Mayhem.
- 21:56Mayhem is only one of three,
- 21:59four competitions in North America.
- 22:02People can choose other competitions for
- 22:05reasons other than competition.
- 22:11I said it yesterday.
- 22:12I said it last night.
- 22:13They all live on the West Coast.
- 22:15They all live on the West Coast.
- 22:17Why in the hell would you fly to
- 22:19Tennessee, have to land in Nashville,
- 22:22get a rental car,
- 22:23drive an hour to Cookville to compete
- 22:27there?
- 22:28When you have Del Mar as an option,
- 22:30you have NorCal as an option.
- 22:33Both in California on the West Coast,
- 22:35which are much easier travel destinations
- 22:38for everybody that's for Dallin, Justin,
- 22:40and James.
- 22:41They're all on the West Coast.
- 22:43Those are so much easier to get to
- 22:45than Mayhem.
- 22:48Plus, it's their choice.
- 22:50It's the way the rules are built this
- 22:52year.
- 22:52Why are we attacking people for making a
- 22:54choice to go to another semifinal?
- 22:58I love Syndicate Crown.
- 22:59I love Wilson Pack.
- 23:01I think he's awesome.
- 23:03Why would I spurn him just to go
- 23:06to mayhem?
- 23:09I find it just mind-blowing that people
- 23:13can't get their heads wrapped around this.
- 23:15And they forget the details of the
- 23:17regionals where people did this stuff all
- 23:19the time.
- 23:20All the time.
- 23:23John George Echoes, my all the time.
- 23:27All the time.
- 23:32Kenneth,
- 23:32are athletes picking based on programming
- 23:34they think will favor them the most?
- 23:37I think there are so many factors.
- 23:39To pin it down to one factor is
- 23:40unfair.
- 23:42I think travel is an issue.
- 23:45I think that schedule is an issue.
- 23:47I think programming is a fact.
- 23:49I think looking at the competition is a
- 23:52fact.
- 23:53If you're the boys interrupted,
- 23:54there's four of you.
- 23:56If there's only two or three slots at
- 23:58an event, half of you aren't making it.
- 24:02You just can't.
- 24:04So why would you put all your eggs
- 24:06in one basket that, you know,
- 24:07half of you and your crew aren't going
- 24:09to make it to the games?
- 24:21Jay Burson could go back to the old
- 24:22system,
- 24:23making them go only where they live.
- 24:25But that got people changed addresses.
- 24:29People said their address was different.
- 24:32Like, my God, there was a year where,
- 24:36oh, gosh,
- 24:38Tyler Christoffel and is it Bailey?
- 24:43No.
- 24:46They lived in the same damn house and
- 24:48they got put in two different regions
- 24:50because they reported a different address.
- 24:57There's so many,
- 24:58so many different reasons why.
- 25:01Jonathan says,
- 25:02Dallin picked Del Mar because he thinks
- 25:03Del Mar is cool and wants to compete
- 25:04there.
- 25:05That's a reason.
- 25:06There's so many reasons other than fear.
- 25:09Like saying that these guys are afraid to
- 25:11come is a little over the top.
- 25:21Ortega hated that system.
- 25:24Every system has been gamed.
- 25:27To say that regionals was a different time
- 25:29and done differently is just not knowing
- 25:32your history of the sport.
- 25:40If anything,
- 25:40they should limit the amount of comps.
- 25:42I agree.
- 25:48Okay.
- 25:52Vicky said that he was on the WOD
- 25:54prep show last night with J.Y.,
- 25:56and he was asked that,
- 25:58and he did say that he thinks that
- 26:01Delmar is cool and he wants to go
- 26:02there,
- 26:02and it's also convenient because it's
- 26:04closer to him now.
- 26:09I agree, Ortega.
- 26:10Mayhem is just trolling to keep the
- 26:11conversations going.
- 26:13I think that that's what mayhem was doing,
- 26:15but then what it's caused now is all
- 26:17these people on the internet going after
- 26:19the boys interrupted.
- 26:20I watched their show last night and people
- 26:22in the chat are all going,
- 26:24why aren't you going to mayhem?
- 26:25Why aren't you going to mayhem?
- 26:27Why aren't you going to mayhem?
- 26:28I mean, just think for yourselves,
- 26:30people like if you have four options, you,
- 26:34there's a variety of reasons why you would
- 26:35pick one other than that.
- 26:46The biggest concern is not getting big
- 26:47names to your event.
- 26:48The good lead to lower gate sales.
- 26:55I think I know what you're saying.
- 26:57You're trying to get the best athletes
- 26:58there to get the most amount of sales.
- 27:03Mayhem can only sell so many tickets,
- 27:05and they're going to sell out.
- 27:07They are going to clear their gate because
- 27:11the fire code on their building is only
- 27:13so much.
- 27:14It can only get that many people in
- 27:16the building.
- 27:17And they fill it every time they hold
- 27:18a competition.
- 27:20They get to that number.
- 27:23So I understand my mistake is expecting
- 27:31people online to actually think you're
- 27:33right.
- 27:33You're right.
- 27:37Vicky,
- 27:38but it's got people talking about it and
- 27:40then more so if it wasn't happening.
- 27:45I guess,
- 27:47I think I'd want to talk more towards
- 27:49the event time when you want people to
- 27:51watch the stream.
- 27:53Because again, they're going to sell.
- 27:54Mayhem is going to sell out.
- 27:56They're going to sell out every year they
- 27:57hold a competition.
- 27:59Last year,
- 28:00I think they actually said they went over
- 28:02the fire code by accident.
- 28:05So they fill that as much as they're
- 28:08legally allowed to fill that building.
- 28:11And that's the charm of it.
- 28:12People want to go there because everything
- 28:14is so confined and so close.
- 28:16And you're rubbing elbows with CrossFit
- 28:19royalty if you go to that place.
- 28:22and that is going to sell out every
- 28:24single year.
- 28:25I think it's actually a way to look
- 28:28at doing competitions in the future before
- 28:31you get to the biggest,
- 28:33like the games or something like that,
- 28:35because when you watch Mayhem,
- 28:37you see the crowd.
- 28:38You see all the people there.
- 28:39It looks awesome when it's streamed.
- 28:42It projects a good image for this,
- 28:45the sport.
- 28:48Judy, who was there last year,
- 28:49says it's packed.
- 28:50Hard to spectate.
- 28:51It's more for the experience of being at
- 28:54Mayhem.
- 28:55See, they have so many people there,
- 28:56you can't even get near the floor.
- 29:02Interesting.
- 29:03I think Mayhem lost money last year.
- 29:05There's a recent video from them where
- 29:07Rich mentions not doing a live stream if
- 29:09they don't get a good broadcast deal.
- 29:11I know that they bemoaned the fact how
- 29:14much they...
- 29:15They paid for the games crew to come
- 29:17in and broadcast that event last year.
- 29:20And they paid a lot of money to
- 29:21get them.
- 29:23And every event organizer I've ever talked
- 29:26to, the biggest expense is the stream.
- 29:30The biggest expense is the stream.
- 29:32You have to get...
- 29:34We have to find lower...
- 29:37cost ways to stream these events or
- 29:40they're just not going to be streamed
- 29:43they're just not or take us as ma'am
- 29:51sells out and it's packed and i can't
- 29:53move around and shoot photos but it's good
- 29:56yeah uh vicky says i feel you judy
- 30:01i'm short so it just was a struggle
- 30:03i'd find a spot on the rail and
- 30:05not move yep
- 30:08everybody agrees when you go to those
- 30:10events it's a great experience it's a
- 30:13great experience yeah there are issues
- 30:17with it there are issues trying to find
- 30:19spots but
- 30:22Back to the original discussion point.
- 30:24We have had this issue forever that people
- 30:27are hopping regions,
- 30:29going to different competitions to benefit
- 30:31themselves and give them a better chance.
- 30:33It's been going on since I started
- 30:35watching CrossFit back in two thousand
- 30:38twelve.
- 30:39People were jumping regions.
- 30:42So to say that it's different now is
- 30:44just just not knowing your facts about the
- 30:48history.
- 30:50Because just go look at the old CrossFit
- 30:54leaderboards.
- 30:54Pick an athlete like Margo Alvarez.
- 30:57See how many regionals she participated in
- 31:01when it shows the regional data on the
- 31:02side.
- 31:03You will see, like, she won the Midwest.
- 31:08She won the South.
- 31:09She won.
- 31:10It changes so often.
- 31:11And I love Margo.
- 31:13Margo and I are tight.
- 31:15But the fact of the matter is she
- 31:17just bounced from place to place.
- 31:27um uh judy wants to meet up with
- 31:31vicky this year that'd be cool i love
- 31:33when people get to meet each other uh
- 31:38corey london i heard tell of a crew
- 31:40who can shoot a comp yeah be friendly
- 31:42fitness does that i think uh
- 31:52I think what Souza and Sivan have done
- 31:55is awesome.
- 31:56But now here we are in the next
- 31:58year,
- 31:59and now they are wanted by two
- 32:03competitions.
- 32:04They're wanted by Syndicate Crown,
- 32:06and they're wanted by NorCal,
- 32:07and they're both on the same weekend.
- 32:09And because they're one team,
- 32:11it's really hard to replicate what they
- 32:12do.
- 32:14I wish we could find a way to
- 32:17have a B team for them so they
- 32:20could do more than one.
- 32:23I just,
- 32:25it just sucks the way it's kind of
- 32:27scheduled now where two of the major North
- 32:29American competitions are on the same
- 32:32exact weekend.
- 32:34And that we cannot find a way to
- 32:37get a lower cost streaming service to both
- 32:41competitions and let them be able to
- 32:44broadcast.
- 32:51Sten says, if you're able,
- 32:53you go where you have the best chance
- 32:55to win.
- 32:56I don't, plus there's prize money, man.
- 32:58If you want to win prizes and win
- 32:59money for these things,
- 33:01that's a factor too.
- 33:03Like NorCal always pays more than other
- 33:06competitions.
- 33:07So people will sign up for NorCal just
- 33:09for the money.
- 33:17I mean, we talked about last night, like,
- 33:19if you're a bubble athlete and you didn't
- 33:21make any money at the games last year,
- 33:23why wouldn't you try for Mexico City and
- 33:25WFP,
- 33:26take the bag and let that help fund
- 33:29the rest of your season?
- 33:34That's the only thing I think that is
- 33:37where WFP can be of significance in the
- 33:41season.
- 33:50Just use them to fund your CrossFit game
- 33:55season or your competitive season.
- 34:04Go get the bag.
- 34:12Jonathan says,
- 34:13that's what I've been saying.
- 34:14You just say it more eloquently.
- 34:20Yeah.
- 34:21I think that you're going to see the
- 34:23WFP become the sport for the bubble
- 34:25athlete.
- 34:27The athletes that don't have the big
- 34:28dollar sponsorships,
- 34:30the athletes that don't get the automatic
- 34:33invites to different competitions.
- 34:37I think that's where you're going to see
- 34:38them kind of flourish.
- 34:42So the last thing I want to talk
- 34:43about before I head back to work is,
- 34:45I don't know if you guys watched Dave's
- 34:47Week in Review yesterday,
- 34:50but at the end of it,
- 34:51I saw a Dave Castro I've never seen
- 34:53before.
- 34:53And this really has nothing to do with
- 34:55CrossFit.
- 34:55I just,
- 34:56it's just something that made me say, hmm.
- 34:59And at the very end of his Week
- 35:01in Review,
- 35:01he talks about the movie Zero Dark Thirty.
- 35:05Someone wrote in in the comments that
- 35:10Do these memoirs and books and stuff that
- 35:13are coming out from different military
- 35:16people, are they designed or are they,
- 35:21I think he called it like,
- 35:22are they an op for the government to
- 35:24use as a recruiting tool?
- 35:29And he said, absolutely.
- 35:33And then Kenneth says he was talking about
- 35:36the wrong movie.
- 35:37So Kenneth, if you can correct me,
- 35:39I'm just talking about his reaction to it
- 35:41all.
- 35:43Recruitment psyop,
- 35:44that's what he was asked about.
- 35:47And he said Zero Dark Thirty.
- 35:49Kenneth is saying that's the wrong movie.
- 35:50But there was a movie that was funded
- 35:52by the government and the Navy and used
- 35:58real Navy SEALs to act in the movie.
- 36:03And he said it really created a divide
- 36:07in the service because, um,
- 36:11Because what they were always preached not
- 36:14to do,
- 36:15the Navy did themselves and funded this
- 36:19thing as a recruitment tool.
- 36:21And it really created a divide with those
- 36:24people.
- 36:25And they started to write their memoirs,
- 36:27started to write their books because their
- 36:29attitude was,
- 36:30they tell us not to do these things
- 36:33to keep all this stuff to themselves.
- 36:34But then they went ahead and did it.
- 36:37And now they said, well,
- 36:38I'm going to do it too.
- 36:39If they're going to do it,
- 36:41If the people telling us not to do
- 36:43it are going to do it,
- 36:43then I'm going to do it too.
- 36:45And for the first time I'd ever seen
- 36:48a reaction from Dave that he was truly
- 36:51offended.
- 36:53Like I've seen Dave upset.
- 36:55I've seen Dave mad.
- 36:59But he just seemed completely,
- 37:00completely offended by what had transpired
- 37:04during this time.
- 37:07Kenneth is saying Act of Valor was the
- 37:09one with the real Navy SEALs.
- 37:13But both are recruiting tools for sure.
- 37:17Corey says, do as I say,
- 37:18not as I do.
- 37:20And Kenneth says, classic military.
- 37:23and I don't really want to have a
- 37:25big lengthy discussion about this, but I,
- 37:27I just wanted to comment on like,
- 37:30I'd never seen Dave Castro offended.
- 37:33I've seen him upset.
- 37:35Like when I volunteered at the games in,
- 37:37in,
- 37:38And he did not like the way things
- 37:40were set up.
- 37:41He was angry.
- 37:42He was yelling.
- 37:43He was mad.
- 37:44Like you see when someone like pushes a
- 37:46button on a comment on the weekend review,
- 37:50this was a different look.
- 37:51This was a different reaction.
- 37:54And I'd never seen Dave have,
- 37:56it's like this one really hurt.
- 38:01Um, and Jonathan said, yeah,
- 38:03it's a slap in the face.
- 38:07That's exactly what it looked like.
- 38:08It looked like someone had truly just
- 38:10backhanded him across the cheek and it was
- 38:13a slap in the face.
- 38:17Kenneth said he did seem pretty
- 38:19uncharacteristically emotional at the end.
- 38:21It caught me off guard because I'm just
- 38:23not used to seeing Dave that way.
- 38:26And I just found it fascinating and wanted
- 38:31to bring it up.
- 38:35John George says he referenced Zero Dark
- 38:37Thirty.
- 38:38Yeah,
- 38:39but Kenneth says he thinks it's actually
- 38:42Act of Valor is the movie he's talking
- 38:44about because that's the one with real
- 38:46Navy SEALs in it.
- 38:51But he said Zero Dark Thirty was super
- 38:52popular.
- 38:53I don't know Act of Valor as much
- 38:55as I know Zero Dark Thirty.
- 38:58And he did reference the popularity of the
- 39:00movie.
- 39:00So I don't know.
- 39:04Um, Jonathan says, yes,
- 39:05it's really shitty because people have
- 39:06gotten fired from positions for less and
- 39:09have gotten reprimanded for some dumb
- 39:11shit.
- 39:11And that's exactly like what he was
- 39:15saying.
- 39:16Like here you are telling us we can't
- 39:18do this and you go ahead and do
- 39:20it to use it as a mark as
- 39:22a marketing and recruitment tool.
- 39:24And, um, and so, yeah.
- 39:35Kenna says Chris Pratt isn't a SEAL,
- 39:37but he did stay at a Holiday Inn
- 39:39Express last night.
- 39:42Yeah.
- 39:43So I just found that very,
- 39:45very interesting.
- 39:47as just a topic.
- 39:48And then the funny thing was,
- 39:50then he went to, well, I was,
- 39:52I mean,
- 39:52what made me want to be a SEAL
- 39:54was watching The Rock and the challenge
- 39:58of,
- 39:58would I be able to do that kind
- 40:00of stuff?
- 40:00And that's what sent him down the avenue.
- 40:04So it kind of ended on like a
- 40:05little bit of a positive note that there
- 40:07was a movie that inspired him to be
- 40:10a Navy SEAL or special ops.
- 40:12And that's what pushed him into that.
- 40:17Pushed him into that avenue.
- 40:19A great Nicolas Cage movie.
- 40:21Yeah.
- 40:22I think Sean Connery was freaking awesome
- 40:24in that movie.
- 40:30Yep.
- 40:30John says he also said that was what
- 40:32got him interested in becoming a CEO.
- 40:33Yep.
- 40:38watching the rock that was kind of funny
- 40:39to hear yeah i not with the movie
- 40:41i expected to be the inspiration for
- 40:43someone to be a seal fun movie great
- 40:46movie not sure how realistic i thought it
- 40:48was um but sure uh kenneth says dave
- 40:55went too introspective on i don't know if
- 40:57it's too introspective it's okay to be
- 40:59introspective right
- 41:01It's okay.
- 41:02He's not in the military anymore.
- 41:03He's not on an operation.
- 41:06I think people can be introspective.
- 41:08I think it's just a side of Dave
- 41:10we haven't seen.
- 41:11And it just was odd.
- 41:15I'm not upset about it.
- 41:16I don't think he did anything wrong.
- 41:19I just was caught off guard by the
- 41:21way he reacted to it all.
- 41:26Too much for him.
- 41:27He probably isn't used to it.
- 41:28I don't disagree with that statement.
- 41:33Um, Kenneth says he actually loved it.
- 41:37Yeah.
- 41:38I, I loved it.
- 41:39The introspection.
- 41:39I love getting to know a little bit
- 41:42more about Dave.
- 41:43We don't really know the guy.
- 41:44He is so close to the vest about
- 41:47everything in his life that we don't
- 41:49really get to see that side of him.
- 41:52So I thought it was good.
- 41:54That all happens in like the last five
- 41:55minutes of the week in review.
- 41:56If you want to just check out that
- 41:58section,
- 41:58make sure to go check that out on
- 42:00Dave's YouTube channel.
- 42:02And then Savon did a week in review.
- 42:04I haven't caught his version of it,
- 42:07but I'm sure they talked about it there
- 42:08too.
