- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by
- 0:08Speaker 1: prize picks. My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening
- 0:11Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. NFL is back, man. By the way, for
- 0:27Speaker 1: those of you, you know. I guess all y'all just
- 0:29Speaker 1: in case you didn't know, we're going to be doing
- 0:31Speaker 1: some Sunday content every now and then when the weekend
- 0:33Speaker 1: is big like that. So you can check out what
- 0:35Speaker 1: we did on Sunday. You didn't know about it already.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I like you talk about how people should know. Like
- 0:40Speaker 2: we didn't decide this weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Like we didn't decide Sunday morning.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Sunday morning.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Specifically.
- 0:50Speaker 1: But I just want to put them up on game
- 0:51Speaker 1: because I don't know. Maybe they didn't see it in
- 0:53Speaker 1: the feed or whatever it is.
- 0:55Speaker 3: You know, give them a little something. Now, could you
- 0:57Speaker 3: have let that slide, Ryan?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yes. Yes.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Totally was on the board. You had the option.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I could have.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I guess you call that producing.
- 1:05Speaker 2: That's on me.
- 1:06Speaker 1: All right. So NFL is back. Good for all of us.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I mean, I just don't think now. Granted, Ryan, we
- 1:16Speaker 1: didn't do that. We did do work this summer. We
- 1:18Speaker 1: just didn't do work this summer the way we used
- 1:20Speaker 1: to do work during the summer. Like, it's our new
- 1:22Speaker 1: approach to the summer. So it hadn't been the scraping
- 1:25Speaker 1: the bowl for content that it had often been for
- 1:27Speaker 1: us in previous summers. That being said, The NFL gives.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It gives you guys something that you care about. It
- 1:33Speaker 1: gives us stuff to talk about. Like, it's a win
- 1:35Speaker 1: for everybody, but I'm going to tell you right now,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm in a really weird space as somebody who lives
- 1:40Speaker 1: in New York City. The Giants and the Jets both
- 1:43Speaker 1: won on Sunday, and that is the first time that
- 1:47Speaker 1: both of them have opened the season with a win.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Ryan, do you know since when?
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's got to be at least 10 years. 2009. A
- 1:59Speaker 2: long time ago.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Which is to say, that happened 17 years before Mark
- 2:07Speaker 1: Sanchez went apeshit.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And wound up getting stabbed and he didn't even notice it.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Because we can't forget that that happened, guys.
- 2:18Speaker 4: No.
- 2:18Speaker 2: No.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I'm like, put that trial. Did he plead out yet?
- 2:22Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But if it's a trial. I think there was an
- 2:24Speaker 2: update that he dropped some of the charges or something
- 2:26Speaker 2: while we were on vacation.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I put that shit on TV. I want to watch.
- 2:32Speaker 3: My God. Anyway, I've been here. This is my 10th
- 2:37Speaker 3: football season here. I think, Ryan, same for you.
- 2:39Speaker 2: We got here at the same time.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Our 10th football season, there's been one good team out
- 2:43Speaker 3: of the two. Now, I want to be clear. I
- 2:46Speaker 3: don't think the Jets are good. I think they played
- 2:49Speaker 3: the Titans.
- 2:51Speaker 1: All right, before I came in here, I was on ESPN,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and Gray Bird was talking about he a Jets fan,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and he said that's the first time he could remember
- 2:58Speaker 1: watching the Jets be decisively better than the other team,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and what an indictment of the Tennessee Titans.
- 3:03Speaker 3: All right, but anyway.
- 3:06Speaker 1: The Giants played the Cowboys on Sunday night football, which
- 3:10Speaker 1: I gotta be honest, man. I thought that was a
- 3:12Speaker 1: really cynical decision by NBC. You're just going to go
- 3:15Speaker 1: New York versus the Cowboys, huh? Just trying to just
- 3:18Speaker 1: get the number up, huh? That's all we gonna do?
- 3:21Speaker 3: Okay, cool. I wound up actually being somewhat glad that
- 3:26Speaker 3: they did.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And the reason was I am a Jackson Dart skeptic.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I am not a Jackson Dart fan. And again, some
- 3:38Speaker 1: of this energy around the Giants reminds me of when
- 3:42Speaker 1: Charlie Weiss first got that job with the Notre Dame.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And it was like Brady Quinn and Jeff Samarja. And
- 3:50Speaker 1: it would be both of them doing all the interviews
- 3:53Speaker 1: and the people loved it. Yeah, you feel me. The
- 4:02Speaker 1: poor decision makers. With Dart and Skedaddle, this is a, like,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't like how it feels. However, Jackson Dart looked
- 4:15Speaker 1: good on Sunday night. He looked like I thought people
- 4:21Speaker 1: got themselves a little bit too hype about him last year.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I just didn't I didn't think that he was actually
- 4:27Speaker 1: in function that good. On top of the fact that
- 4:30Speaker 1: like if he was a child, he would have to
- 4:33Speaker 1: wear a helmet at the mall.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Stop banging your head against the wall, man. You know.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Is he going to be the first QB? I guess
- 4:42Speaker 2: maybe Tua, but is he going to be the first
- 4:44Speaker 2: QB with a guardian cap?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he got to put on the big hat.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I mean, I just can't believe they let him out
- 4:50Speaker 1: there without.
- 4:50Speaker 3: The big hat.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, to protect himself.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I mean, look, what's that boy said? I don't know
- 4:56Speaker 1: why they keep sending me to the tent. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, hey, guys.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Something's not great here, but he looked really good. Like,
- 5:06Speaker 1: he looked poised. They still call plays that Like, it
- 5:09Speaker 1: was a lot of designed run for him. Where, like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: it goes one way and then it comes the other way.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And he ain't holding the ball, like, in the passing hole.
- 5:17Speaker 3: As he goes, right? He's got it, like, tucked in
- 5:19Speaker 3: like he's Emmitt Smith.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I'm like, guys, are you just operating under the
- 5:23Speaker 1: assumption that we're here for a good time, not.
- 5:24Speaker 3: A long time?
- 5:27Speaker 1: But he seemed to get out of bounds a little better. Like,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I mean, look, he's going to miss three, four games.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I feel like we can write that down.
- 5:34Speaker 2: But.
- 5:35Speaker 1: if it's anything like it was in that game, they're
- 5:37Speaker 1: going to be a pretty good 13 out of him.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The counterpoint to that obviously is the Cowboys defense looked
- 5:45Speaker 1: a lot like the Make-A-Wish Foundation at some point. It's
- 5:50Speaker 1: like they got some dudes that I wonder, does this
- 5:52Speaker 1: ever happen? I need to ask Dominique. Where guys are
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the huddle and the play has been called and
- 5:58Speaker 1: then they get out there and they're like, shit, what
- 6:00Speaker 1: did he say the play was?
- 6:03Speaker 3: What was it?
- 6:05Speaker 2: I hope it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Oh, damn. I was supposed to be there. That's on me.
- 6:11Speaker 3: My bad. I thought she said something else. Just moments.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Like, why is that guy running butt naked open right now?
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's not like the Giants are, you know, throwing out
- 6:23Speaker 2: a bunch of great weapons out there. There's a reason
- 6:24Speaker 2: Odell Beckham still made the team. Wow, that is.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I had forgotten that that happened. Let me tell you
- 6:30Speaker 1: two things that have been humbling, and I mention this
- 6:32Speaker 1: because these two guys are in that draft class. I
- 6:35Speaker 1: heard during the broadcast of Bill's Texans, and we'll talk
- 6:40Speaker 1: more about that game a little later, but I heard
- 6:41Speaker 1: the phrase, the old veteran, Jadeveon Clowney. And if you
- 6:47Speaker 1: have seen Odell Beckham, that does not look like the spry,
- 6:51Speaker 1: youthful chap that was making one-handed catches back in the day.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I'm like, damn, y'all are old.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Like... Old. Yes, yes.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Like, O-L-D-O. But the Cowboys.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Didn't have really much of any offense to speak of.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Right? Like, this is.
- 7:12Speaker 5: I.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Need the Cowboys.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The Cowboys being good are not just good for business.
- 7:19Speaker 1: They're good for our sanity because we're going to talk
- 7:21Speaker 1: about them.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Correct.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I'd at least like it to be an enjoyable experience.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Like, give me something to do on that.
- 7:28Speaker 1: The Cowboys are like it used to be with Duke basketball,
- 7:31Speaker 1: where you'd know more players on Duke even not rooting
- 7:34Speaker 1: for Duke because you just had to watch Duke all
- 7:35Speaker 1: the time. Cowboys, we know all these cats whose names
- 7:39Speaker 1: we're not supposed to know. But as of right now,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I got to admit to you, Ryan, I never heard
- 7:43Speaker 1: of you, Brevin Spanford, Luke Schoonmaker.
- 7:48Speaker 3: You ever heard of him?
- 7:51Speaker 2: I haven't. Not before last night at 19 p.m. Eastern,
- 7:56Speaker 2: I had not.
- 7:57Speaker 3: He had a catch for 12 yards.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I don't even know. Hunter, is this Lepke?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Lepke? I'm going with Lepke.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Lepke feels like.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels right.
- 8:07Speaker 3: It would be correct. Unfamiliar.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Anyway, our good buddy Danny Parkins had a very interesting
- 8:14Speaker 1: weekend with the games. We'll talk more about what made
- 8:16Speaker 1: his weekend interesting. But he made a serious high taker.
- 8:21Speaker 1: He's got the Giants winning the division. I aspire to
- 8:28Speaker 1: that level of confidence or that indifference to people calling
- 8:33Speaker 1: me stupid.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Danny Parkins, someone who values good process and strong decision-making,
- 8:39Speaker 2: going with Cam Scadaboo and Jackson Dart to win the NFC.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's right, because look, he makes a compelling case when
- 8:45Speaker 1: he does this, right? The only counter-argument is that it's
- 8:49Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Right, but otherwise, you know, we'd be with it. It's
- 8:53Speaker 3: coming in hot on that one.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Then, between him and our other friend of the program,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Jason Goff, Jason Goff, who sent me a text that said,
- 9:03Speaker 1: Let me make sure.
- 9:04Speaker 3: That I have this.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It was the screen grab of Dreams and Nightmares.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I used to pray for times like this to rhyme
- 9:11Speaker 1: like this. And this is when the Bears had 21.
- 9:16Speaker 1: This is well before they racked up 59 points.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Now, granted, they were playing the Panthers.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And also, they need to be careful because they let
- 9:29Speaker 1: the Panthers put up, what was it?
- 9:31Speaker 3: Was it their own 37?
- 9:33Speaker 2: That was like a Pac-12 game. It took four and
- 9:36Speaker 2: a half hours.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's going to be a lot of Pac-12. Are you
- 9:41Speaker 1: too young to remember the WAC? Like before it was Maction.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You remember when it was Maction?
- 9:45Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It was late Saturday nights in the WAC with BYU
- 9:49Speaker 1: and San Diego State and all of them.
- 9:51Speaker 3: And it was like Arena League.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I mean, it's early Mike Leach, right?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Oh, no, this is well before that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. Yeah. Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But that apparently is what the NFC North is going
- 10:01Speaker 1: to be because I really don't want to talk about.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Maybe we can talk about the Lions a little bit later.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm not that happy, but at least we didn't lose
- 10:10Speaker 1: those bums.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Who did they play, Ryan?
- 10:13Speaker 2: The Saints.
- 10:15Speaker 3: There we go.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Thanks, Lions.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Anyway, um, But the Bears are going to put up
- 10:21Speaker 1: some points and they're going to give up some points.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And the Lions are going to be out here giving
- 10:26Speaker 3: up some points. And apparently, one way or another, the
- 10:29Speaker 3: Packers are going to be giving up some points.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And as long as Brian Flores is going to sit
- 10:33Speaker 1: in the house all the time, there's always the chance
- 10:36Speaker 1: they're going to give up a lot of points. In fact,
- 10:38Speaker 1: I feel like this style of play, it's a good
- 10:40Speaker 1: thing they got two domes, but it almost feels like
- 10:43Speaker 1: this is wasted on playing in the tundra part of
- 10:45Speaker 1: the country.
- 10:47Speaker 3: We need to put these teams.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Somewhere with as many fast tracks as possible. But the Bears,
- 10:55Speaker 1: if you're a Bears fan, you've never seen anything like this.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Does the scoreboard at Soldier Field even got a five.
- 11:00Speaker 4: On the front?
- 11:03Speaker 1: They're going to be some lights on that scoreboard that
- 11:08Speaker 1: have never been used.
- 11:09Speaker 3: They're going to be all the way out.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, their passing touchdowns counter is like a baseball out,
- 11:16Speaker 2: so it only goes up so high.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It's going to be like when I moved into this
- 11:20Speaker 1: place that I live in right now, and the dude
- 11:23Speaker 1: who had it before me, nobody had lived here for
- 11:25Speaker 1: a while, and they had new air conditioners installed, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: they didn't plug them in, so they was just blowing
- 11:29Speaker 1: like fan.
- 11:30Speaker 3: But nobody knew. Nobody had been here. That's what that
- 11:34Speaker 3: five number is going to be.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It reminds me once, the ACC tournament, they once had
- 11:39Speaker 1: that in the arena in Tampa. But the arena in
- 11:42Speaker 1: Tampa is a hockey arena. It is not a basketball arena.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Which is to say, it has a two-digit scoreboard. Because
- 11:51Speaker 1: why would a hockey arena need a third digit?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Of course.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And this is Roy Williams Carolina basketball was down there.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And it's like, yo, so what are they going to
- 11:59Speaker 1: do if they get to 100? That's what's going to
- 12:02Speaker 1: be going on there. But Caleb Williams looked good. Like,
- 12:05Speaker 1: they in total looked good, but Caleb Williams looked like
- 12:08Speaker 1: a much improved quarterback.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Like.
- 12:11Speaker 1: There are reasons to still have questions even coming into
- 12:13Speaker 1: this year. I feel like it felt better last year
- 12:15Speaker 1: maybe than it actually was.
- 12:18Speaker 3: It was really good, I thought, yesterday.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Just like I thought Lamar Jackson was fucking excellent. They
- 12:27Speaker 1: could be scary. Granted, they was playing against the Colts,
- 12:30Speaker 1: but they looked offensively terrifying.
- 12:33Speaker 2: They now have an offensive coordinator that, as a new
- 12:36Speaker 2: statistic I want to call, don't look up their birthday anymore.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 1: They also have an officer coordinator who's under the heading
- 12:43Speaker 1: of don't look up his dad.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Don't look up his dad. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I think old Declan Doyle is something like 30 years old.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah, that's his dad. Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And for those of you who don't know, like, it's
- 13:10Speaker 1: not fair to hold it against young Declan, at least
- 13:13Speaker 1: not yet. But his dad was that strength coach at
- 13:17Speaker 1: Iowa that the black players in 2020 was like, yo,
- 13:19Speaker 1: we can't do this no more.
- 13:21Speaker 3: And then Urban Meyer tried to hire him in Jacksonville.
- 13:24Speaker 2: And even they were like, no.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, this is back when the spirit was still in people.
- 13:31Speaker 3: And they was like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. I
- 13:33Speaker 3: just Googled this man. We can't do this. But they
- 13:36Speaker 3: looked great. Indianapolis, I mean, Daniel Jones coming off an
- 13:42Speaker 3: Achilles tear. Yeah, good luck.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Right. Let me know how that goes for you guys.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I personally wouldn't sign up for that. And I'm just saying,
- 13:53Speaker 1: after a while, they're going to have to ask themselves
- 13:55Speaker 1: the question. Maybe if we just let Anthony Richardson get
- 14:02Speaker 1: a couple of snaps.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They might have to throw him out there because they
- 14:05Speaker 2: might be. Two and eight.
- 14:08Speaker 3: There may be no reason not to.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Correct. Might as well have fun.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Hey, man, get out there and run to bone, right? Like,
- 14:15Speaker 1: just work something out. Also, I thought Jalen Hurst looked
- 14:18Speaker 1: really good. Although I did not... I felt Washington looked
- 14:23Speaker 1: like a bad team to me. And the fact that
- 14:25Speaker 1: that game was as close as it was at the
- 14:27Speaker 1: end is not... I don't think that bodes well for
- 14:31Speaker 1: the Eagles. Which is interesting because the... We have long
- 14:34Speaker 1: felt the ceiling with Jalen Hurts, and I thought he
- 14:36Speaker 1: looked as confident in the pocket as I had ever
- 14:38Speaker 1: seen him look.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Like, I don't know. I thought he looked really good
- 14:42Speaker 3: in that game.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I thought Josh Allen looked excellent, especially when you consider
- 14:48Speaker 1: they were playing against a really good defense.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 14:51Speaker 1: And look, he had that Josh Allen play where he
- 14:53Speaker 1: gave him a chance to throw the game away. The
- 14:55Speaker 1: Texans didn't catch it, and so Josh Allen threw a touchdown.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's that's pretty much how it went.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Like we're here.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I get it so much. I appreciate Josh Allen for
- 15:07Speaker 1: getting good and staying good.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:09Speaker 3: It's all been adjudicated. There's nothing left to talk about.
- 15:12Speaker 3: All we got to do is enjoy it.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And until the playoffs.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Then all of a sudden the hypocrisy jumped back out again.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:20Speaker 1: You know, but I tell you something I was reminded
- 15:23Speaker 1: of in that game because it's something that we don't
- 15:25Speaker 1: think about anymore.
- 15:26Speaker 3: James Cook led the league in rushing last year.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I just like the, like the rushing champion is not
- 15:31Speaker 1: something that I just don't think we have.
- 15:33Speaker 3: At top of mind, like in the ways that we
- 15:35Speaker 3: used to.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So he had the Russian champion. He's Josh Allen and
- 15:42Speaker 1: they didn't have great receivers, but they were okay. Maybe
- 15:44Speaker 1: talking about it like Josh Allen out there by a
- 15:46Speaker 1: goddamn self.
- 15:48Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Like, no, man, they got dudes.
- 15:51Speaker 3: They've got dudes.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It'll be interesting for me to see your, I don't
- 15:56Speaker 1: like head coaches calling plays.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I feel like you should be too busy for that.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Fair.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:01Speaker 3: But let's see how it goes.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Also, usually means if you're calling plays, it doesn't mean
- 16:10Speaker 2: you're the best person at calling plays. It means you're
- 16:11Speaker 2: bad at delegating.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's that's that's an ego play.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Correct.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Control frame. Yeah, but you know what? Maybe he's that guy, right? Like,
- 16:19Speaker 3: you know, it's on the board. We'll see. Andy Reid's
- 16:21Speaker 3: been calling these plays forever.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That's also, I think, in part why Andy Reid could
- 16:25Speaker 1: often be a little bad at the clock.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:27Speaker 1: A few too many things going on at one time.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But no, I think a lot of people had calls
- 16:32Speaker 1: for optimism. I'll tell you the last team that had
- 16:35Speaker 1: calls for optimism in just a second because it ties
- 16:38Speaker 1: in with who should have pessimism.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Who?
- 16:48Speaker 1: All right, I talked about my man Danny Parkins. Great
- 16:50Speaker 1: weekend for him. His Bears put up 59 points.
- 16:55Speaker 3: His hot take of the Giants. They're 1-0.
- 16:59Speaker 1: They got the win in over the Cowboys. But he
- 17:03Speaker 1: has hitched his wagon to Justin Herbert. And they lost
- 17:08Speaker 1: to the Arizona Cardinals at the crib, mind you. And
- 17:15Speaker 1: they scored a grand total loss.
- 17:17Speaker 3: What was it, like 17 points?
- 17:20Speaker 2: I think it was 14 points.
- 17:21Speaker 3: 14, you are correct.
- 17:27Speaker 2: That's not good.
- 17:28Speaker 1: It is when they got an offensive coordinator we all
- 17:30Speaker 1: feel pretty good about. I don't know if it's fair
- 17:34Speaker 1: to blame this on Herbert, but I do think it's
- 17:36Speaker 1: a bad look for all parties involved over there that
- 17:39Speaker 1: they lost this game.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Lost this game to a team who was supposed to
- 17:45Speaker 2: be one of the worst teams in the NFL. Yes.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, I guess the other argument to be made
- 17:50Speaker 1: is on the other side. Jacoby Brissett, I mean, I
- 17:53Speaker 1: ain't going to pretend like I'll watch this.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Let's start there.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But Jacoby Brissett, at least numerically, looked like he was
- 18:01Speaker 1: doing pretty good against a defense that I think we
- 18:02Speaker 1: thought was better than that.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Certainly would look better than that against Jacoby Brissett.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the charges are starting to feel like
- 18:13Speaker 1: This is just what it's going to be no matter what.
- 18:14Speaker 1: They have a coach that we all think is pretty excellent.
- 18:16Speaker 1: They have a quarterback that we think is pretty talented.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I don't think it matters who you put in the
- 18:21Speaker 1: Charger suits. They're going to be the Chargers no matter what.
- 18:25Speaker 2: No matter where they are?
- 18:26Speaker 3: No matter where they are.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Like, yeah, they can win a playoff game if they
- 18:29Speaker 1: play against the Bengals.
- 18:31Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Like, you tried them out
- 18:32Speaker 3: there against Andy Dalton type of situation.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You know, they could make that work, but that just
- 18:38Speaker 1: seems to be what they are.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Like, that division, to me, is going to be weird because.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'm not bought in on the Bo Nix thing, but
- 18:45Speaker 1: this is a team that was very close to going
- 18:46Speaker 1: to a Super Bowl last year, talking about Denver. Mahomes
- 18:50Speaker 1: is coming back. The Raiders at all. I mean, the
- 18:53Speaker 1: Raiders at least demonstrated they're not the worst team in
- 18:55Speaker 1: the NFL because they beat who is the worst team
- 18:57Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 18:59Speaker 3: The Dolphins.
- 19:01Speaker 1: By the way, we will see Fernando Mendoza sooner than
- 19:04Speaker 1: the Raiders would like to play him because Kirk.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Cousins, D-U-N, done.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Of course.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Desi.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I just find it so amazing that they have Kirk
- 19:16Speaker 1: Cousins and Fernando Mendoza on the same team.
- 19:20Speaker 3: The only two of those in the whole league.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Can you imagine the conversations they have?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like, oh, it's Ned Flanders and Opie Taylor
- 19:28Speaker 1: on the same team.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Oakley doakley. And by the way, that team is the Raiders.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Do you have a brand or not?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Like, I thought you guys stood for something.
- 19:43Speaker 3: What are you talking about?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Ken Stabler is rolling over in his grave. Like, Ken
- 19:48Speaker 1: Stabler would show up to the facility and tell jokes
- 19:51Speaker 1: about those guys.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Stand in their faces. Try to force them to smoke cigarettes.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Al Davis would listen to one for Mendoza. Mendoza post-game
- 19:59Speaker 2: interview would be like, no.
- 20:00Speaker 3: He's off my board.
- 20:01Speaker 4: No, no.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Neither one of these guys is on Al Davis's Raiders.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, never.
- 20:06Speaker 3: No chance. Under no circumstance. Whatsoever. But yeah, we'll see
- 20:12Speaker 3: what happens over there. The Packers.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Look.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I watched a good bit of the second half of
- 20:19Speaker 1: that game, which is to say I turned it on
- 20:22Speaker 1: just in time for Brian Flores to turn the burners
- 20:27Speaker 1: up to 45. And we're just going to bring heat
- 20:31Speaker 1: and there's going to be nothing that you can do
- 20:33Speaker 1: about it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: And there was nothing. Another game. What was it, a
- 20:36Speaker 3: 12-point lead they had this time? This is the third
- 20:39Speaker 3: straight game. And again, under circumstances.
- 20:41Speaker 1: For LeFleur, where the whole world is watching, the national
- 20:44Speaker 1: television situation, we have all watched them lose three straight
- 20:48Speaker 1: games with double-digit leads. And it's one thing when it's
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Bears and they had Caleb Williams, right? It's another
- 20:55Speaker 1: thing when it's the Vikings who have Kyler.
- 20:57Speaker 3: No, I'm sorry. Not even him. Carson Wentz. That's who
- 21:07Speaker 3: they had.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I don't think the Packers have won a game since
- 21:09Speaker 2: Micah got hurt.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 21:14Speaker 2: It's something, it's an absurd losing streak. It's almost impossible. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 2: and again, like you said, three double-digit losses.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Hey, I mean, let's not forget that LeFleur almost got fired.
- 21:25Speaker 1: at the end of last year. Like there was real
- 21:27Speaker 1: talk about whether or not he was going to come back.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Now this just keeps happening. And I thought that love
- 21:32Speaker 1: was really, really good for the game until there was
- 21:35Speaker 1: just literally nothing that you could do about it. Like
- 21:38Speaker 1: they just brought, they said Flores blitzes like 78% of
- 21:42Speaker 1: the time. He is relentless, relentless about this. And I
- 21:49Speaker 1: got Kravitz makes a very interesting question. When, His point was,
- 21:55Speaker 1: Kyler Murray is not really a guy that's going to
- 21:57Speaker 1: force feed the number one receiver.
- 21:59Speaker 3: So maybe, just maybe, Jordan Jefferson. Excuse me.
- 22:04Speaker 2: We're back.
- 22:04Speaker 3: We're back.
- 22:07Speaker 1: After a whole show of calling Sam Darnold, Sam Bradford,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I am back with the Jordan Jefferson thing. And the
- 22:12Speaker 1: thing about the Jordan Jefferson thing is, we're at a
- 22:15Speaker 1: point now where there are people who don't understand why
- 22:18Speaker 1: I would make such a mistake.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:21Speaker 3: It's been so long.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It's been a long time. Right?
- 22:25Speaker 1: It's been that long. Justin Jefferson. Jordan's brother.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Justin. Justin Jefferson.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Carson Wentz is a man who's been around long enough
- 22:36Speaker 1: to know I'm just going to keep throwing it to him.
- 22:40Speaker 3: That's what I'm going to do.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So perhaps maybe Justin Jefferson might like it this way.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I'm a day-to-day contractor. So what I'm going to do...
- 22:49Speaker 2: I'm going to throw it to the good receiver.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Why would you do anything else? I didn't have no
- 22:53Speaker 1: time to practice. You treat this shit like Madden. Throw
- 22:58Speaker 1: it to Randy Moss.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Over and over and over again. While J.J. McCarthy, I
- 23:04Speaker 3: don't know you over there playing paddle ball, blowing bubbles
- 23:07Speaker 3: and shit. I don't know what he's doing. Is he
- 23:08Speaker 3: even watching the game? I don't know what it would
- 23:10Speaker 3: take for them to put him in the game.
- 23:13Speaker 2: They might put Jordan Jefferson at quarterback before they put J.J.
- 23:17Speaker 2: McCarthy at this point.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I think it's all the board, man. I think it's
- 23:20Speaker 3: all the board.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I promise you Kevin O'Connell likes Jordan Jefferson more than
- 23:24Speaker 2: he likes J.J.
- 23:25Speaker 3: McCarthy. What a weird situation they have there. Because look
- 23:29Speaker 3: at that whole depth chart. Kyler Murray, Carson Wentz, J.J. McCarthy.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Three guys where the knock on them was, you know,
- 23:38Speaker 1: they don't really get along that well with the other kids.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Yes.
- 23:42Speaker 3: They got a whole team of those guys. It's the
- 23:45Speaker 3: whole roster, right?
- 23:48Speaker 1: And Carson Wentz did not really play that great, but
- 23:50Speaker 1: you give even Carson Wentz some short fields, watch what happens, right?
- 23:56Speaker 3: Watch what happens.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And speaking of people looking terrible, I'm trying to remember
- 24:08Speaker 1: who I was texting with. Ryan, it might've been with you.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And we were texting about Deshaun Watson.
- 24:17Speaker 3: And it was right at the beginning of the games.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And I was making the point to you that I
- 24:22Speaker 1: was trying to figure out if we could get some
- 24:25Speaker 1: shorthand for how we talk about Deshaun Watson. And I
- 24:33Speaker 1: was like, yo, man, maybe we just need to start
- 24:35Speaker 1: calling him D-Nasty. Except that makes it sound like He nasty.
- 24:43Speaker 1: He really good at playing. When it's initial nasty, you
- 24:47Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying?
- 24:48Speaker 2: That's nasty as a term of endearment.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 24:52Speaker 1: However, if we just call him Nasty D, that's different.
- 25:01Speaker 1: It's amazing how just flipping the order of it, right?
- 25:08Speaker 1: Changes everything up. Bill Burr's got this routine about how
- 25:12Speaker 1: black people got to figure out how not to sound
- 25:14Speaker 1: racist and white people got to figure it out. Like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: black people call somebody, say, this Asian motherfucker.
- 25:24Speaker 3: But the white dude will be like, this fucking Asian?
- 25:29Speaker 1: Totally different. Everything's different. So anyway, we was talking about
- 25:33Speaker 1: Nasty D. And before I could even finish with the
- 25:36Speaker 1: conversation I was having with you about Nasty D, he'd
- 25:39Speaker 1: already thrown an interception. It had already been done. He
- 25:44Speaker 1: put up some really impressive statistics while they were getting
- 25:47Speaker 1: their ass kicked by the Jaguars. We have a really
- 25:51Speaker 1: impressive statistics. And buddy, from what I can see on
- 25:53Speaker 1: the Internet, that wasn't going anywhere with the Cleveland Browns faithful.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Their whole thing is you cannot try him out here
- 26:03Speaker 1: for the home opener.
- 26:04Speaker 2: No, they're almost going to like put him out there
- 26:07Speaker 2: for sacrifice against the Bucs on the road next week.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And then week three, who knows who's going to start?
- 26:12Speaker 3: They never seen anything like it. Never.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Your own starting quarterback comes in and he's like the
- 26:21Speaker 2: heel in his own stadium.
- 26:23Speaker 3: How about this?
- 26:24Speaker 1: Not even a black up can save him. We have
- 26:32Speaker 1: talked about this several times. If you want to demonstrate
- 26:36Speaker 1: that you are secure in your starting quarterback and you
- 26:39Speaker 1: want the people to understand that the starter is the starter,
- 26:42Speaker 1: You go get you a black up because the streets
- 26:45Speaker 1: never asked for the black up to be the starter.
- 26:49Speaker 1: They got a fifth round black up who wasn't good
- 26:53Speaker 1: the last time we saw him play. Cleveland treating him
- 26:57Speaker 1: like he LeBron James and Nate Thurman rolled into one.
- 27:03Speaker 3: They can't wait for them.
- 27:04Speaker 1: To put his black ass out there and sit Nasty
- 27:07Speaker 1: D down.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Here's the other part, too.
- 27:11Speaker 1: If they take Nasty D out the game, Nasty D
- 27:13Speaker 1: don't even need to work out.
- 27:19Speaker 3: He don't need to wear real socks.
- 27:21Speaker 2: He don't need to do nothing.
- 27:22Speaker 3: It's over.

- 29:06Speaker 2: Big news Sunday morning before the games get kicked off.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Miles Garrett is going to the IR after struggle with
- 29:13Speaker 2: a knee injury after struggling in the Australia game on Thursday.
- 29:17Speaker 2: What was your reaction to this news?
- 29:19Speaker 1: Hey, man, like we can limit it to Miles Garrett
- 29:22Speaker 1: or we could go bigger. I'm trying to figure out
- 29:25Speaker 1: which way I want to go. I'm going to start
- 29:26Speaker 1: with the bigger and then come back to Myles Garrett, okay?
- 29:31Speaker 1: What if, just throwing this out there, because I don't
- 29:34Speaker 1: think that this is a ridiculous question.
- 29:36Speaker 3: I don't even really think this is a super high take.
- 29:39Speaker 3: What if this stupid Australia.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Game winds up messing up the whole season for both
- 29:44Speaker 1: of these teams? Right?
- 29:47Speaker 3: Now, who knows?
- 29:48Speaker 1: Each one of them, a big part of what happened
- 29:50Speaker 1: with this game is each team had their own science saying.
- 29:53Speaker 3: What it is that they should do to prepare for
- 29:55Speaker 3: the game.
- 29:55Speaker 1: The 49ers wound up going and setting up for a
- 29:58Speaker 1: whole week The Rams showed up the night before because
- 30:01Speaker 1: they apparently had done some research to lead them to
- 30:03Speaker 1: believe something that feels counterintuitive to any of us who
- 30:07Speaker 1: have ever taken a long flight before, that they just
- 30:09Speaker 1: need to show up the day before and they'd be
- 30:11Speaker 1: ready for action the next day.
- 30:12Speaker 3: No, the 49ers blew their doors off, right?
- 30:16Speaker 1: But now the 49ers are going to be getting back,
- 30:18Speaker 1: trying to readjust and everything else. And the Rams doing
- 30:22Speaker 1: that quick back and forth thing that they did with Garrett,
- 30:24Speaker 1: apparently with a sore knee on the front end, gets there,
- 30:28Speaker 1: gets stonewalled by Trent Williams by and large. Then he's
- 30:32Speaker 1: saying after the game how bad his knee is.
- 30:35Speaker 3: So then they have the surgery.
- 30:36Speaker 1: But the fact that he was telling us about it,
- 30:38Speaker 1: hey this was a bad idea i don't but what
- 30:42Speaker 1: could they do right like how do you decide who's
- 30:44Speaker 1: important enough to play the game.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I don't i mean they didn't bring aaron donald i
- 30:48Speaker 2: mean if his knee is that bad you you know
- 30:50Speaker 2: what's not a good idea putting your your star free
- 30:53Speaker 2: agent acquisition or you know it's a free agent acquisition
- 30:58Speaker 2: on a plane for 30 hours with a bum knee.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Well here's the thing.
- 31:03Speaker 1: They didn't bring Aaron Donald because something tells me that
- 31:06Speaker 1: Aaron Donald told them, yeah, I'll come back, but I
- 31:10Speaker 1: ain't going. I just went there last month on vacation.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I don't really need to go back.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:17Speaker 1: But like, what if the turnaround and everything else?
- 31:20Speaker 3: Like, I feel like you got to bet against both
- 31:22Speaker 3: of those teams this week.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I just came back from a much shorter trip and
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm still, he's still trying to get back off of that. Um,
- 31:32Speaker 1: So that was my first thought is that, especially if
- 31:34Speaker 1: my miles Garrett.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Being hurt, this, this takes away from our belief.
- 31:38Speaker 1: That this was going to be this completely unstoppable, indomitable team.
- 31:43Speaker 1: You know, if we're like for an in season surgery,
- 31:45Speaker 1: all the things that we see these dudes push through
- 31:48Speaker 1: and them to be like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Let's chill on that. Let's get this under control right now.
- 31:53Speaker 3: I feel like that's a lot.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Right.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I mean, they treat, I mean, they came out here
- 31:58Speaker 2: and talked about the science and how this was the
- 32:00Speaker 2: smart plan. What if they just treated this like a
- 32:02Speaker 2: schedule loss?
- 32:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I mean, like that is– the Rams seemed uninterested to
- 32:10Speaker 2: be there from the jump and especially for something that's
- 32:13Speaker 2: supposedly opening your season. Like they didn't seem like they
- 32:16Speaker 2: had a lot of urgency. And now with Myles Garrett,
- 32:20Speaker 2: I mean this is almost more of an NBA approach
- 32:23Speaker 2: than an NFL approach, you know. putting him on a
- 32:26Speaker 2: minutes restriction almost yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 1: But can you like football doesn't really exactly like it
- 32:31Speaker 1: just doesn't give you that now an angle of the
- 32:35Speaker 1: miles garrett thing that i don't think anybody's talking about
- 32:38Speaker 1: and we should keep our eye on because.
- 32:42Speaker 3: We buy into narratives.
- 32:46Speaker 1: You understand The story can get overwhelming and we just
- 32:49Speaker 1: do it and we do it.
- 32:50Speaker 3: We believe in curses.
- 32:51Speaker 1: We believe in all these things. Y'all believe in momentum, right?
- 32:55Speaker 1: Like we believe in all this different stuff, right? Let's
- 32:59Speaker 1: consider something that never seemed possible. What if the Cleveland
- 33:04Speaker 1: Browns got out ahead of the Miles Garrett thing?
- 33:13Speaker 2: Definitely on the board. Right?
- 33:15Speaker 3: What if they got out.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Ahead of this and they were like, yo, it's never
- 33:17Speaker 1: going to be as good as it was. You just
- 33:19Speaker 1: had the greatest season of all time.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Regression on the way.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Also, though, Steve Ballmer seems to be waving the white flag.
- 33:27Speaker 2: He announced he will accept the punishment for salary cap
- 33:32Speaker 2: circumvention in a statement Sunday night. He said, quote, this
- 33:34Speaker 2: has been a very difficult time for everyone associated with
- 33:36Speaker 2: the Clippers. For that, I have sincere regrets. I want
- 33:39Speaker 2: to apologize to our fans and employees, my fellow NBA
- 33:42Speaker 2: team owners for the distraction to stress this matter. which
- 33:46Speaker 2: I accept full responsibility as principal owner. Bo, what was
- 33:50Speaker 2: your reaction to this?
- 33:51Speaker 1: Hey, man, this thing has hurled out of control rapidly.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I believe it was August 23rd or 22nd. I can't
- 33:59Speaker 1: remember which day when the ESPN report came out. They
- 34:02Speaker 1: made it seem like this is going to be water
- 34:04Speaker 1: under the bridge.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Then the NBA came down with a hammer.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And I mean, you could, You could argue, I saw
- 34:15Speaker 1: Max Kellerman, the first person I'd seen actually make this point,
- 34:17Speaker 1: where he's like, boy, doesn't that.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Punishment feel a little bit harsh? But it's the punishment, okay?
- 34:23Speaker 1: And I see why Ballmer was thinking about suing and
- 34:25Speaker 1: everything else and da-da-da.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Figuring out how to get back.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Now, the Department of Justice, the Eastern District of New York,
- 34:34Speaker 1: the DOJ, it's coming for him. They are now investigating
- 34:38Speaker 1: him and Kawhi Leonard.
- 34:40Speaker 5: What?
- 34:41Speaker 3: Over this? I just can't believe. Like, I always say it.
- 34:44Speaker 1: That when Michael Vick got locked up, because he didn't
- 34:46Speaker 1: get it, then that door swung shut. He was like, damn,
- 34:50Speaker 1: for some dogs? Like, he just didn't understand the stakes.
- 34:53Speaker 1: That's where Steve Ballmer is right now.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Like, for this? Are you kidding me? Now, this is also,
- 34:58Speaker 3: I believe, though, the.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Same district that tried to make the play on all
- 35:02Speaker 1: the college, the basketball coaches.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:04Speaker 1: And came back with their dicks in their hands because
- 35:07Speaker 1: they didn't really have anything. So one could argue they're
- 35:10Speaker 1: an aggressive bunch. But this has gone to places that
- 35:13Speaker 1: I don't think anybody could reasonably believe that it was
- 35:16Speaker 1: going to go to, given what the offense actually is.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:24Speaker 3: He's going to be so mad during that year that
- 35:27Speaker 3: he's got.
- 35:29Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to go over to his house during this.
- 35:31Speaker 2: He'd be watching the games.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I kind of wish that Ballmer was younger because I
- 35:35Speaker 1: feel like all he's going to be over there doing
- 35:36Speaker 1: is push-ups and stuff. He's got to do something with
- 35:39Speaker 1: all that anger and energy. He'd come back looking like
- 35:41Speaker 1: he just got out to joint.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Just hot.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Let's move on to the U.S. Open. Interesting day as
- 35:50Speaker 2: Alexander Zarev Pote fought his rival, Ben Shelton's girlfriend, after
- 35:55Speaker 2: winning the U.S. Open. He said after the match, quote, Trinity,
- 35:59Speaker 2: I thought you had a game today. Well done to
- 36:02Speaker 2: you as well. You're the Loki charm. So not today,
- 36:07Speaker 2: but usually. Bo, what was your reaction to this?
- 36:14Speaker 1: So, you know, I never really thought about this until now.
- 36:18Speaker 1: But you know how we'd be kind of assuming that
- 36:20Speaker 1: our Russian brothers, And.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Is he Russian? He's German. Oh, so Zverev is not Russian?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Correct.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Oh, sure sounds Russian.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 36:30Speaker 1: So when you're Russian, we assume that you might be
- 36:32Speaker 1: able to fight. When you're German, we just think you mean.
- 36:37Speaker 3: That was.
- 36:38Speaker 2: At minimum, aggressive.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that was.
- 36:41Speaker 1: If Vince Sheldon pulled up on him right there in
- 36:44Speaker 1: front of everybody, that would have been okay, right?
- 36:48Speaker 3: And I got to.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Tell you, there's a significant portion of the listening audience
- 36:51Speaker 1: that would love to have Ben Shelton's back right now.
- 36:54Speaker 3: But did you see what happened?
- 36:56Speaker 2: He is, I have to correct, born in Germany to
- 36:59Speaker 2: Russian parents.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Oh, wow. Let me tell you that.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Talk about hitting the nail on the head there.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Hey, copped it in Long Beach together. Now you know
- 37:08Speaker 3: you're in trouble. That's what that sounds like to me.
- 37:11Speaker 3: You know what that is?
- 37:14Speaker 2: That's not a conflict-averse household.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Let me tell you the opposite of Compton and Long
- 37:19Speaker 1: Beach together. Ben Shelton and Trinity Robin. Ben Shelton got
- 37:24Speaker 1: out there. They asked Ben Shelton after he beat the
- 37:26Speaker 1: homie Big Fo. And they were like, hey, you might
- 37:28Speaker 1: be the first black U.S. Open winner since Arthur Ash.
- 37:33Speaker 1: What you think about that?
- 37:34Speaker 3: And he tried to chase the subject. He was like, USA, USA.
- 37:41Speaker 1: And brother, you just, excuse me, young man, I don't
- 37:46Speaker 1: want to offend you.
- 37:49Speaker 3: He just won the Huber Davis Award for 2026. We
- 37:53Speaker 3: were all rooting for you. And you was like, keep
- 38:00Speaker 3: that shit. I don't even need it.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Remember that other thing I was trying to tell you
- 38:05Speaker 1: about riots?
- 38:06Speaker 2: Yes.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I'm still not going to try it, but this would
- 38:10Speaker 1: have been the time.
- 38:11Speaker 2: It would have been, but I think that's a.
- 38:14Speaker 3: It would have been a time. Here's my other question, though.
- 38:16Speaker 1: What Trinity Rodman got to say to him when they
- 38:19Speaker 1: roll out of there so you didn't say nothing to
- 38:20Speaker 1: him about that?
- 38:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Talk about putting him in a
- 38:25Speaker 2: bad spot.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I mean, did he wink at her? Did he blow
- 38:28Speaker 3: her a kiss? Like, yo, homie, this is.
- 38:32Speaker 3: What you saying about me right now?
- 38:36Speaker 2: Right. And finally, the CEO of Anthropic called for a
- 38:41Speaker 2: global slowdown of artificial intelligence development in an essay over
- 38:45Speaker 2: the weekend. Quote, over the last few months, I have
- 38:48Speaker 2: been convinced that fully addressing the risk requires even more prudence,
- 38:52Speaker 2: not just investing in risk prevention, but pacing the rate
- 38:55Speaker 2: of capabilities advancement so that risk prevention has time to
- 39:00Speaker 2: keep up. We must slow the pace at which we
- 39:03Speaker 2: improve the capabilities of AI models and progress will still
- 39:06Speaker 2: seem fast and we must make wise use of the
- 39:10Speaker 2: time we gain. Beau, your reaction to this quote from
- 39:14Speaker 2: the CEO?
- 39:18Speaker 3: What happened?
- 39:22Speaker 5: Right?
- 39:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Because we've been talking about this for a very long time.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Ryan, tell them the name of the book.
- 39:31Speaker 2: If they build it, everybody dies. Yes.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And the concept of the book, which was written by
- 39:38Speaker 1: two gentlemen, one of whom had been in a very
- 39:40Speaker 1: high capacity in one of these companies, was simply that
- 39:43Speaker 1: if anybody gets this level of superhuman intelligence... It will
- 39:48Speaker 1: turn on us. And all the simulations have told us
- 39:51Speaker 1: that it's going to turn on us. It's not like
- 39:53Speaker 1: this guy was the first guy to.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Come up with this.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 39:58Speaker 1: So what did you see that made you do this?
- 40:02Speaker 1: Is it the story about the biological weapons? What happened
- 40:06Speaker 1: that made you realize, finally, what the stakes was?
- 40:13Speaker 5: Right?
- 40:14Speaker 3: What was it?
- 40:14Speaker 1: Because, buddy, Clearly, we have a problem here. We know
- 40:20Speaker 1: we have a problem. It is obvious we have a problem.
- 40:24Speaker 1: But we've been saying this for so long. The problem
- 40:27Speaker 1: he's got is all of them have to stop. Part
- 40:31Speaker 1: of why this is hurdled out of control is that
- 40:35Speaker 1: all of them are basically trying to seek out a
- 40:37Speaker 1: level of monopoly product because the only way that these
- 40:39Speaker 1: companies are going to be able to operate at the
- 40:41Speaker 1: scale that they're trying to get to and the reason
- 40:42Speaker 1: that they're moving and the ways that they're moving, only
- 40:46Speaker 1: one of them can really win. In order for this
- 40:48Speaker 1: to go right, especially like with the thing with the
- 40:50Speaker 1: Chinese and their shit being open source, the profits are
- 40:53Speaker 1: going to get devoured in that way. Like you've got
- 40:55Speaker 1: to be able to basically become the only one to win.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So all of them are investing and investing and investing
- 40:59Speaker 1: and ramping this farther and farther and farther and hoping
- 41:01Speaker 1: they get to a place where they can dominate the market.
- 41:03Speaker 1: But nobody wants to be, nobody can afford to be
- 41:06Speaker 1: the one that's like, hey, we got to stop. When
- 41:09Speaker 1: the reality is they all need to stop. I believe
- 41:12Speaker 1: the term that people need to use here is the
- 41:14Speaker 1: prisoner's dilemma. Right?
- 41:18Speaker 3: It'd be better off for everybody to do this.
- 41:21Speaker 1: But the best response function says mutually assured destruction.
- 41:26Speaker 4: You know?
- 41:27Speaker 1: And to me, it's not a don't ever use AI
- 41:29Speaker 1: sort of situation. No, I don't think that's, I think
- 41:32Speaker 1: that like using it to make these stupid videos and
- 41:34Speaker 1: stuff like that, I think that's horribly irresponsible. I think
- 41:37Speaker 1: they're perfectly legitimate uses for the technology. But what it's
- 41:41Speaker 1: capable of and where it's going?
- 41:43Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no. It'll kill us all.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And Ryan, remember the thing that that book said, and
- 41:48Speaker 1: we've been talking about on here. The thing those authors
- 41:52Speaker 1: said is, we don't want you to think we are crazy.
- 41:57Speaker 1: So we're trying to sound cool about this.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:59Speaker 3: But it is far worse than we're making it sound.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yes. They are very intentionally not trying to sound alarmist,
- 42:07Speaker 2: but it is impossible to describe the severity of the
- 42:10Speaker 2: scenario without using alarmist language.
- 42:15Speaker 3: However, All I hear is, roo, roo, roo, roo, roo, roo, roo.
- 42:22Speaker 3: That's all I hear. That is, that is, that is,
- 42:24Speaker 3: that is, that's it.
- 42:26Speaker 1: That's all I, I, I feel like it's not simply
- 42:29Speaker 1: that someone's breaking into my car.
- 42:31Speaker 3: They're breaking into my car and I'm in it. That's
- 42:35Speaker 3: my fucking swung crowbar. And it hit me. It went
- 42:37Speaker 3: through the glass. We're right there. And you're like, nah, man,
- 42:41Speaker 3: I think I'm going to just stay here.
- 42:47Speaker 2: All right, Bo. A couple of voicemails. A lot of
- 42:50Speaker 2: good ones. Here's our first. Bomani.
- 42:53Speaker 5: Ryan.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Welcome back, Ryan. We thought you went missing. Thought we
- 42:57Speaker 4: would have to sit down at a search party. I
- 43:01Speaker 4: got two questions for you gentlemen.
- 43:04Speaker 2: This is Yo.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Calling out the 901.
- 43:09Speaker 2: One.
- 43:10Speaker 4: What's with your boy?
- 43:11Speaker 2: I should say Shannon's boy. Your.
- 43:17Speaker 4: On CBS, walking out.
- 43:21Speaker 6: There with a, Sierra's man, walking out there with.
- 43:24Speaker 4: A Jerry Curl mohawk, Russell Wilson. So what's up with that?
- 43:29Speaker 4: And two, is Lane Kiffin, the new Edwin Edwards, is
- 43:37Speaker 4: there going to be a scenario where he's going to
- 43:39Speaker 4: be like, you can fire me if I get caught
- 43:44Speaker 4: in a room What a dead recruit or a live boy.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Let me know what y'all think. Hope y'all all right.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Have a good one. Be safe. And as a Bears fan, Bo,
- 43:58Speaker 4: you can take that Honolulu blue off anytime you want.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Take care, fellas.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Bye.
- 44:06Speaker 2: All right.
- 44:07Speaker 1: So I want to start by speaking to the parasocial
- 44:09Speaker 1: weirdos out here. And we've come to understand there are
- 44:13Speaker 1: more of you than one would have thought. Ryan, I
- 44:16Speaker 1: once made the terrible mistake of looking at my own subreddit,
- 44:18Speaker 1: which I will never do again.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Never do it again.
- 44:21Speaker 1: All subreddits are where your fans get together to talk
- 44:25Speaker 1: about how much they hate you.
- 44:26Speaker 3: And it's not just me.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Correct.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It's every single subreddit.
- 44:30Speaker 1: And that's why every one of you needs to understand,
- 44:33Speaker 1: you fucking weirdo lame old dork. Now, with that in mind,
- 44:39Speaker 1: I told y'all that Ryan was going to be taking
- 44:41Speaker 1: some time off.
- 44:43Speaker 3: And then Ryan came back. I told you guys that
- 44:47Speaker 3: this was going to happen. Ryan A was out.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Here thinking you got fired, thinking all these terrible things happened.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yeah, guys, I had a baby. It's fine.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't my place to tell you. Yeah.
- 44:56Speaker 5: You know?
- 44:56Speaker 3: But Ryan will be back in a little while.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Boom.
- 45:00Speaker 3: We even came to a whole new place. Ryan came
- 45:02Speaker 3: with me.
- 45:03Speaker 1: That's how solid this shit was.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Hey, you know, both can't keep no friends.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Like, wow, man.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Fucking weirdos. Like, number one. We'll deal with that.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Number two, I thought it was very on brand for
- 45:16Speaker 1: him to say that he was calling from the 901
- 45:18Speaker 1: Memphis and all we heard in the background was sirens.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Oh, that was me.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 45:23Speaker 2: But still possible.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Could have gone either way, right?
- 45:26Speaker 1: New York City, Memphis, when it comes to sirens, very
- 45:28Speaker 1: similar situation. Number three, with Lane Kiffin, there's a big
- 45:32Speaker 1: difference between Edwin Edwards and Lane Kiffin. People love Edwin
- 45:37Speaker 1: Edwards unconditionally. People like Lane as much as he wins.
- 45:43Speaker 2: All right, well, here's our next one.
- 45:45Speaker 6: Hey, this is Curtis from Tampa by way of Detroit and, uh,
- 45:49Speaker 6: long time listener. Uh, got a question for you. Musically
- 45:54Speaker 6: is Bobby Womack, the king of songs. We thought were
- 46:00Speaker 6: love songs, but actually weren't like, we can all agree
- 46:04Speaker 6: that if you think you're lonely now, it wasn't a
- 46:07Speaker 6: love song.
- 46:07Speaker 3: It was a threat.
- 46:09Speaker 6: And, um, That song, I Wish You Didn't Trust Me
- 46:13Speaker 6: So Much, that's pretty much a Dirty Mac and Anthem, right?
- 46:15Speaker 6: I just want to hear your thoughts on that. How
- 46:22Speaker 6: would you do?
- 46:23Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Thanks, and keep it going.
- 46:27Speaker 3: No, no, no, let's be clear.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Those Bobby Womack songs are love songs. They're just love
- 46:31Speaker 1: songs about somebody else's woman. Like, if you think you're
- 46:36Speaker 1: lonely that way tonight, now you're right about that one.
- 46:37Speaker 3: That's not, you're right. That is a threat.
- 46:40Speaker 1: But the other ones, they're love songs.
- 46:42Speaker 3: They're just not about what one would term the right person.
- 46:48Speaker 3: That's all. Ryan, to put this in terms that may
- 46:51Speaker 3: be a little more relatable to you, a lot of Layla.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Got it.
- 46:55Speaker 3: A lot of... Well, Bobby Womack had the ultimate Layla situation.
- 46:59Speaker 2: That was a good translation there.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 47:02Speaker 1: So to fill people in on this, if you don't
- 47:04Speaker 1: know the situation with Layla, George Harrison used to be
- 47:06Speaker 1: married to a woman named Patty Boyd, who apparently.
- 47:10Speaker 1: She'd have five, because while she was married to George Harrison,
- 47:14Speaker 1: Eric Clapton was in love with her, and Eric Clapton
- 47:17Speaker 1: wrote Layla about her, and eventually she left George Harrison
- 47:21Speaker 1: for old punk-ass Eric Clapton, and George Harrison and Eric
- 47:24Speaker 1: Clapton stayed friends, which I don't know if that says
- 47:28Speaker 1: great things about those guys.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Or terrible things about those guys.
- 47:33Speaker 1: But anyway, Bobby Womack, and I don't blame Bobby Womack
- 47:36Speaker 1: for this, but Bobby Womack's mentor was Sam Cooke. And
- 47:40Speaker 1: when Sam Cooke died, Bobby Womack, who later married Sam
- 47:43Speaker 1: Cooke's wife, showed up at Sam Cooke's funeral with Sam
- 47:46Speaker 1: Cooke's wife wearing one of Sam Cooke's suits.
- 47:51Speaker 2: You learn something new every day.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But important to keep in mind, Bobby Womack was 21
- 47:56Speaker 1: at the time. And I'm pretty sure that Sam's wife
- 48:00Speaker 1: was a little closer to his age, which is around 33.
- 48:06Speaker 1: If the roles were reversed in that the word predator
- 48:11Speaker 1: would jump off the page.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Instead, y'all calling Bobby a dirty Mac.
- 48:17Speaker 2: All right. Here's our last one.
- 48:19Speaker 5: What's up, Bo? This is Anthony. So I've actually been
- 48:24Speaker 5: keeping a roster of these for a while. Mercedes, white
- 48:29Speaker 5: Mercedes was my first middle school crush. German car, white girl,
- 48:35Speaker 5: black name. White Jamal with three A's was on my
- 48:38Speaker 5: football team. And then we had Zeke and Kenan from
- 48:42Speaker 5: the Army, also white. Mrs. Linnaeus was a team mom.
- 48:46Speaker 4: You guessed it.
- 48:48Speaker 5: And lastly, we have the best one, Shatray. You wonder
- 48:53Speaker 5: and I answer. Her dad's name was Travis and mom's
- 48:57Speaker 5: name was Shannon. Shatray. On my paper roster at this point,
- 49:03Speaker 5: we got Mercedes, Jamal, Zeke.
- 49:06Speaker 2: But are these all white people or?
- 49:07Speaker 5: I think so. I feel like it should be. I
- 49:10Speaker 5: can't quite. tell.
- 49:20Speaker 3: But at the same time, in.
- 49:25Speaker 1: His voice, wow, he has completely complicated the situation.
- 49:29Speaker 3: He got a call back next week.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Let's get confirmation on this roster. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Check
- 49:37Speaker 2: on everyone's eligibility.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. And exactly what part of the Joker you
- 49:41Speaker 3: went on, brother, dare I say. What do we got?
- 49:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I do love, though, that we have opened the door
- 49:49Speaker 1: for people to understand. Because, you know, I understand it's
- 49:51Speaker 1: for white people. The only purpose of race is to
- 49:54Speaker 1: be racist. Black people have figured out how to turn
- 49:56Speaker 1: it into fun stuff. And so white people never know
- 49:58Speaker 1: when it's okay to bring up because they only bring
- 49:59Speaker 1: it up. when it's time to say something bad. That's
- 50:02Speaker 1: why they whisper to be like, you know, this guy,
- 50:03Speaker 1: he was Asian, right? Because you got to, you know,
- 50:06Speaker 1: because that's how we feel. But I'm glad we've liberated
- 50:08Speaker 1: for people to understand sometimes things are just funny. And
- 50:12Speaker 1: those names, we too have been confused. It's the same
- 50:16Speaker 1: for us. But hey, ladies and gentlemen, Thanks so much
- 50:20Speaker 1: for joining us here on The Right Time. We do
- 50:22Speaker 1: this four days a week. Ryan Brumley handing things behind
- 50:24Speaker 1: the scenes. Thank you, sir. Hit the voicemail line 323-596-7767. Remember,
- 50:30Speaker 1: follow The Right Time. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Give us five stars. You only give us four stars.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. Talk to
- 50:37Speaker 1: you guys in a couple of days.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Take it easy. This has been a Playmaker Production.
