- 0:45Speaker 2: and Rosemary. Welcome girls, Hi Hi, Hi, uh you guys
- 0:50Speaker 2: mind hitting everybody? You know what you guys are still
- 0:52Speaker 2: the age where people always asking? Do people always ask
- 0:54Speaker 2: you how old you guys are? Ana?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Sometimes it's pretty common.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I met a kid you last night. I asked him
- 0:59Speaker 2: what Grady was in. Then he kind of laughed about it,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and I said, yeah, don't actually care it grade. You know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was just trying to make small talk. What Gradeian?
- 1:07Speaker 4: Eighth Gradeay? Mabel, fifth grade? Okay, Pattie seventh grade?
- 1:12Speaker 2: All right, Rosie sixth grade.
- 1:15Speaker 5: You should know that I.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Know what like, I know that you're in the middle school,
- 1:23Speaker 2: which when I was growing up was junior high. But
- 1:26Speaker 2: here about this middle school. You guys have all been hunting.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Mabel's your first year hunting in the state, in your
- 1:32Speaker 2: state that you live in. You need to be how
- 1:34Speaker 2: old to start hunting?
- 1:37Speaker 6: Ten?
- 1:38Speaker 3: How old are you ten?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Okay? And then you can hunt how many years in
- 1:42Speaker 2: Montana with your parents, with your dad before you need
- 1:46Speaker 2: to go do hunter's safety. It's a quiz show, Mabel.
- 1:51Speaker 6: I have no idea like thirteen.
- 1:55Speaker 2: No, you can't hunt thirteen years with your dad too.
- 2:00Speaker 7: You can hunt two years as a mentor.
- 2:02Speaker 6: As a mentee, so this is my last year or
- 2:05Speaker 6: next year, first year? Okay, but I hunt squirrels with you.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah, this is where it gets cold.
- 2:12Speaker 7: Okay, very good point, Very good point. Yeah, you don't
- 2:18Speaker 7: need it in Montana. You don't need a hunting license
- 2:20Speaker 7: or be any sort of age to hunt squirrels, rabbits,
- 2:24Speaker 7: what else, kyo.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Any non game animal? Yeah? Yeah, so you can hunt
- 2:29Speaker 2: in our state and every state's different. In our state,
- 2:35Speaker 2: you can begin hunting at ten for game animals like
- 2:38Speaker 2: let's say dear. You can begin hunting deer at ten.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You can also hunt for two years with a mentor
- 2:49Speaker 2: before you have to take hunter safety. You just happen
- 2:52Speaker 2: to start your mentor hunting at the age of ten.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But let's say you never hunted until the year twelve.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You could still do two years with the mentor for
- 3:00Speaker 2: you had to do hunter safety. But since your kids
- 3:01Speaker 2: all started at the bottom end of the age bracket,
- 3:05Speaker 2: you can hunt two years with your dad and then
- 3:08Speaker 2: you got to do hunter safety.
- 3:09Speaker 6: So we'd have to do it one more.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Twelve you'll have yep, and I know you've done hunter safety.
- 3:17Speaker 2: How'd that go?
- 3:18Speaker 4: It was pretty good. It took a while, but I
- 3:20Speaker 4: got through it.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You cheated the system a little bit. Can you explain
- 3:23Speaker 2: that to people?
- 3:26Speaker 7: She doesn't look at it that way.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Explain how you. I look at it like, you cheated
- 3:29Speaker 2: the system, But she's gonna ros he's going to cheat
- 3:33Speaker 2: the system.
- 3:34Speaker 7: Really, he just wants to know how you did it
- 3:38Speaker 7: without doing a field day. I think there's.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Virtual field days where you go around and they like
- 3:44Speaker 6: show you a video of how it would work, and
- 3:47Speaker 6: then you say like, oh, this is wrong, and there's
- 3:49Speaker 6: no really you're.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Right around a virtual field day.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Yeah, So you don't really get quized in that part.
- 3:53Speaker 6: It's just kind of like a you pick an answer.
- 3:55Speaker 6: You don't have to in those video says if you're
- 3:57Speaker 6: right or wrong. But some people probably don't care about
- 3:59Speaker 6: that and just skipped it the entire thing because there's
- 4:01Speaker 6: like three seconds on all the videos that are like
- 4:03Speaker 6: five minutes long.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I don't know if you do.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Do you think you'd be able to skip it all
- 4:07Speaker 2: and still pass?
- 4:10Speaker 7: We heard the first hand story.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Do you hear my story?
- 4:13Speaker 7: My buddy another buddy, Steven, whose daughter was just watching
- 4:17Speaker 7: funny Cat videos as that because you know how they
- 4:20Speaker 7: put the little timer on there right so you can't
- 4:21Speaker 7: just click all the way through. And then she went
- 4:23Speaker 7: to take the test and she failed. She had to
- 4:26Speaker 7: do the whole thing again.
- 4:28Speaker 5: My boy, funny Cat videos.
- 4:30Speaker 7: You guys gotta love those.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You you guys know, you guys know, of course, you know.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And Hunt with James when James had to do Hunters
- 4:37Speaker 2: when he had to do his archery certificate, okay, uh,
- 4:42Speaker 2: he did a hunter safety where you go do the
- 4:43Speaker 2: actual not virtual field day with the actual field day.
- 4:46Speaker 2: He needs to go get his archery certificate and he
- 4:50Speaker 2: comes in and it's all online and he comes in
- 4:52Speaker 2: and tells me that he failed the archery certification thing
- 4:57Speaker 2: by like a point and I'm living. So I sit
- 5:01Speaker 2: down with them and do it and me and him fail,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and I don't know, man, maybe we really have to
- 5:06Speaker 2: go look at the stuff because what they it's so
- 5:08Speaker 2: poorly written that it's like it's has stuff like what
- 5:12Speaker 2: is a piece of archery equipment you can do without
- 5:15Speaker 2: stabilizer fingertabs? It was, you know, and you're like, well
- 5:20Speaker 2: that's so subjective. It was like what's the best cookie?
- 5:26Speaker 2: You know, They're like nope, wrong, and uh a question
- 5:31Speaker 2: about how long should you wait before you start blood trailing? Right?
- 5:36Speaker 2: But you got it, you know, it's not what work.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It's sort of you just got to go with what
- 5:40Speaker 2: was in the thing. It's a bad experience.
- 5:43Speaker 7: Yeah, they're not getting a lot of context around those questions.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so maybe you got it done, hattie. Have you
- 5:50Speaker 2: had to do hunter safety yet?
- 5:52Speaker 8: I already did it yet?
- 5:53Speaker 2: Did you do the virtual or real field day?
- 5:56Speaker 8: The real field day?
- 5:57Speaker 2: You did? What happened down there?
- 6:00Speaker 8: Uh, you kind of got like showed around and then
- 6:02Speaker 8: you practiced different shooting positions on like clay birdies, and
- 6:06Speaker 8: then you practiced using a shotgun, and then you went
- 6:10Speaker 8: through a bunch of like other things like passing through
- 6:12Speaker 8: a barbed wire fence and like practice like.
- 6:15Speaker 2: When you throw your gun over then climb through.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Was it boring though?
- 6:22Speaker 8: It was kind of boring and it dragged on, but
- 6:25Speaker 8: it was fun.
- 6:27Speaker 2: When you when your dad, Uh, Hattie's my neighbor. I'm
- 6:30Speaker 2: buddies with her dad. When your dad learned that you
- 6:33Speaker 2: were coming down here, what did he ask you not
- 6:35Speaker 2: to talk about? Remember? Her dad wanted her not to
- 6:41Speaker 2: talk about Her dad wanted her not to talk about
- 6:44Speaker 2: how he had to curse at or during hunting season
- 6:46Speaker 2: this year.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Dad.
- 6:51Speaker 2: It was the heat of the moment, though, wasn't it. Sorry, Yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 2: your dad got emotional during the heat of the moment.
- 6:57Speaker 8: I was.
- 6:58Speaker 2: He was there to get some deer.
- 6:59Speaker 8: Killed, and I was sitting right fifty yards from a
- 7:03Speaker 8: buck and I was like, just out in the open.
- 7:06Speaker 8: Anything could see me, and a deer was fifty yards
- 7:08Speaker 8: behind me.
- 7:09Speaker 2: And he had some strong words for you.
- 7:10Speaker 8: Well, he just said get down and yelled at me.
- 7:14Speaker 8: But that was about it.
- 7:15Speaker 2: He wanted you to keep quiet about that.
- 7:18Speaker 8: Yeah, he brought it up.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I've been training you guys up. Tell Rosie, tell everybody
- 7:25Speaker 2: where you hunt where the.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Deer are no more?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and then I'm not I'm a guy and I'm
- 7:32Speaker 2: prying you on it, like more specifically, what what what
- 7:35Speaker 2: river do you hunt on? Now?
- 7:36Speaker 5: We're nine? Wait where none ya river flows into Business Creek.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That's right, Well it's none of your creek falls into
- 7:43Speaker 2: Business River.
- 7:44Speaker 3: But same thing, haddie, uh.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Hattie, you had your school counselor was trying to pry
- 7:51Speaker 2: some info audio.
- 7:55Speaker 8: Yeah, but he was just asking like sounds.
- 7:58Speaker 2: He's asking a bit more, which.
- 8:00Speaker 8: I felt, Well, he just like there he asked, Well,
- 8:05Speaker 8: he just like asked a lot of questions, like over
- 8:08Speaker 8: and over again. He asked if we drove up there
- 8:10Speaker 8: and I said yes, And then he asked if we
- 8:13Speaker 8: well on a boat down the river and.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I said no, because we were hunting the park.
- 8:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I drove up. We drove up to Yellowstone and
- 8:21Speaker 8: then I was like, tell me, right in the park
- 8:24Speaker 8: we hunt.
- 8:24Speaker 5: We hunt right in the park where the rangers don't.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, did you get mate? Was your dad schooled you
- 8:31Speaker 2: on this kind of thing?
- 8:33Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, you definitely sat us down and we Yeah, we.
- 8:39Speaker 7: Around the campfire. You had a big meeting about this.
- 8:42Speaker 7: Have you guys been pride yet for any location information?
- 8:45Speaker 3: No.
- 8:46Speaker 6: I mean like my teacher he was like, he was like,
- 8:49Speaker 6: so where you go hunting? And I was like, oh,
- 8:51Speaker 6: I honestly have no idea because it was my first
- 8:53Speaker 6: year and I actually didn't know where we went. So
- 8:55Speaker 6: that was pretty fair. But then if somebody asked me now,
- 8:58Speaker 6: I'd just be like like, either I don't know, or
- 9:02Speaker 6: we like go somewhere different every year, or I just
- 9:05Speaker 6: do the joke Rosie did I know?
- 9:07Speaker 5: But I like the one better where you say like
- 9:09Speaker 5: where the deer are, and like where at the deer are?
- 9:12Speaker 5: Where are the deer? Where the deer are?
- 9:14Speaker 4: You know?
- 9:14Speaker 6: Deer camps? Yeah, deer you go to deer camp?
- 9:19Speaker 2: We went.
- 9:19Speaker 7: We just drive the highway until we see one of
- 9:21Speaker 7: those signs that shows the deer crossing the road, and
- 9:24Speaker 7: then they were wait.
- 9:25Speaker 6: There and then when one comes and crosses the road,
- 9:27Speaker 6: we just get that one.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Do you guys feel that? Iron and Mabel? Do you
- 9:31Speaker 2: guys feel that if your dad if your dad quit
- 9:34Speaker 2: hunting right now, would you guys you feel like you'd
- 9:36Speaker 2: keep it going or you feel like you'd quit too.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I'd probably keep going. Really, Yeah, there's a lot of
- 9:41Speaker 4: really fun benefits.
- 9:42Speaker 7: They actually have an opportunity. This weekend. Jennifer and I
- 9:45Speaker 7: went for a walk looking for Pronghorn yesterday, only day
- 9:47Speaker 7: we have for her her tag, and didn't happen. We
- 9:51Speaker 7: didn't see a single one. And uh, but this weekend
- 9:55Speaker 7: seasons still open. I'm gone, but these girls might go
- 9:58Speaker 7: and uh sort of kind of eyed and try to
- 10:00Speaker 7: help their mom get on a prong horn.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Really, Dad Seth's wife Kelsey went out by herself and
- 10:09Speaker 2: got one, and then she had like a Dolly cart,
- 10:11Speaker 2: like the kind of dolly used to carry boxes around
- 10:14Speaker 2: in the store. She was carrying on one of those
- 10:17Speaker 2: tied to a Dolly cart.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Brilliant.
- 10:22Speaker 2: No, she's having a picture, bros. Tied to a Dolly
- 10:24Speaker 2: cart like a stack cardboard box.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Those dollary cards aren't light.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I mean I got to pull it up and take
- 10:32Speaker 2: a look. I'll show you.
- 10:33Speaker 8: Am I allowed?
- 10:34Speaker 2: Tone, Well, I think you gotta be twel Yeah, you
- 10:37Speaker 2: gotta twelve. Yeah, in this state, you gotta be twelve.
- 10:39Speaker 6: It's prong horn.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So Corey, how old are your youngsters? I have one
- 10:43Speaker 2: six year old boy and you're taking all this in
- 10:46Speaker 2: I am yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 9: It's loving hearing you guys and hearing how excited your
- 10:51Speaker 9: kids are to be out there, because I'm pumped. I
- 10:53Speaker 9: got four more years.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I've had. So the way it works is because
- 10:57Speaker 2: we can do youth season. Our youth season just this
- 11:00Speaker 2: year was well, every year, our youth season in Montana
- 11:03Speaker 2: is two days long, depending on the calendar. We had
- 11:07Speaker 2: a couple of years where they kind of lined it
- 11:10Speaker 2: up with some days like when.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Teachers are off beautiful good so they.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Don't have to miss as much school. They still got
- 11:16Speaker 2: to play a little hooky, but not as much hookey
- 11:18Speaker 2: as they would have to otherwise. And then for the
- 11:20Speaker 2: last couple of years though, the youth season lined up
- 11:23Speaker 2: with General so we could just yeah, we could just
- 11:26Speaker 2: roll right into General. And we've had good luck killing
- 11:29Speaker 2: bucks like in the general season because you can work
- 11:33Speaker 2: the kinks out for the two day youth season.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Because youth day youth season is Thursday Friday, and then
- 11:39Speaker 7: General would open on Saturday.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But this year they separated again. Now they're separate by
- 11:43Speaker 2: a week, and so we had our youth season this
- 11:48Speaker 2: year was two days long.
- 11:49Speaker 9: Yeah, you guys were youth hunting during archery season.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Yeah, they was so off that it was yeah, we
- 11:54Speaker 2: even saw. Yeah, there was people bow hunting while we
- 11:57Speaker 2: were youth hunting. But we got our crew. We had
- 12:00Speaker 2: six hunters, and how many bucks did we get?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Guys six six six, But one o'clock on day two.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Everybody like, well not know, most people got a buck
- 12:13Speaker 5: at like around that time.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It was I got all four of you girls killed
- 12:20Speaker 2: box within like ten minutes.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I know about those were the biggest ones.
- 12:25Speaker 8: I got the award for the smallest one.
- 12:27Speaker 2: You get the smallest bucke, smallest buck. Hey, I got
- 12:30Speaker 2: a question for you, Haddie. You uh went out. So
- 12:34Speaker 2: you got your first buck last year? Okay, you got
- 12:37Speaker 2: your first You got a meal to your buck last year? No, no,
- 12:39Speaker 2: what'd you get last year? Get a white tail buck?
- 12:41Speaker 8: Right? I got a meal deer?
- 12:42Speaker 2: You got a meal your buck. L Sorry, you got
- 12:43Speaker 2: a meal your buck last year. This year, I want
- 12:46Speaker 2: to get into your head a little bit on this.
- 12:48Speaker 2: This year you went on the first day of the season.
- 12:50Speaker 2: My understanding is you passed up a four.
- 12:52Speaker 8: Ky mm hmmm because there was a big buck at
- 12:55Speaker 8: the top of the hill and I wanted that one
- 12:57Speaker 8: over at four ki.
- 12:58Speaker 2: That's what was going on? Okay, the second day you
- 13:02Speaker 2: came in with a porky. Okay, walk me through what
- 13:06Speaker 2: happened there, Like, walk me through your mind, your thought.
- 13:09Speaker 8: Process the first day that I passed it up, both
- 13:14Speaker 8: the evolution of your thoughts. Oh well, my dad and
- 13:17Speaker 8: I were glassing and we looked and there was like
- 13:20Speaker 8: a huge buck at the top of this spot and
- 13:26Speaker 8: I don't know what's called, but and then I was like,
- 13:28Speaker 8: let's go up there. And he probably like just bedded
- 13:31Speaker 8: down in like that shady ravened kind of spot, you
- 13:36Speaker 8: can say that kind of stuff. And uh so we
- 13:40Speaker 8: were hiking up the hill and my dad tells me
- 13:43Speaker 8: to sit down because he thought he saw it. He
- 13:45Speaker 8: saw a bunch of doughs that we I think we flushed.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I didn't curse at you, no, Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 8: And then and he like came down to me and
- 13:57Speaker 8: was like, there's a there's a buck right there. And
- 14:00Speaker 8: I was like, is it a forky? And he said yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 8: And then it came broadside for like a minute. So
- 14:05Speaker 8: I had like the like I didn't have like five
- 14:08Speaker 8: minutes to think about shooting it or not. I'd like,
- 14:10Speaker 8: right then and there shoot it. And I passed it
- 14:14Speaker 8: up because I felt like really rushed and I didn't
- 14:16Speaker 8: have enough time and I wasn't in that good position,
- 14:20Speaker 8: and I really wanted to get the huge buck we
- 14:22Speaker 8: saw on the top of.
- 14:23Speaker 7: The totally understood what makes you want to kill a big,
- 14:27Speaker 7: huge buck for the fun of it.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I don't know, show that counselor they look at that
- 14:34Speaker 2: bad boy. Uh So then the next day you go
- 14:39Speaker 2: out and your thought changed. M last by this point,
- 14:43Speaker 2: last second season.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Yeah, And I was like, I wasn't gonna be picky
- 14:47Speaker 8: because then I saw other people shot four kies, so
- 14:50Speaker 8: I would I would have been like fine if I
- 14:52Speaker 8: shot one because other kids got one. So then I like,
- 14:57Speaker 8: I also said, like, first thing in the morning, I'm
- 14:59Speaker 8: not going to be so if I see a buck,
- 15:01Speaker 8: I'll shoot it.
- 15:02Speaker 2: There you go.
- 15:03Speaker 7: I think it would be okay. Even if everybody else
- 15:05Speaker 7: killed three pointers and you kill the four ki, it'd
- 15:07Speaker 7: still be.
- 15:08Speaker 8: Okay as long as you got a deer.
- 15:11Speaker 7: That's right. Yeah, they all taste the name.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Maybe you got your first buck, yeah, okay, tell us
- 15:17Speaker 2: tell us about that buck. How big was that buck?
- 15:19Speaker 8: He was a four back four.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Corky perked right up there now, Cory's card is one
- 15:28Speaker 2: where you're a hunt. Yeah, okay, tell what happened there?
- 15:34Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know, my dad, we like army
- 15:37Speaker 6: crawled on our like, you know, like on our hands
- 15:41Speaker 6: and knees.
- 15:41Speaker 2: For something must have happened before that. You wouldn't just
- 15:43Speaker 2: be crawling out of camp.
- 15:45Speaker 6: We like, so we you know, took off from camp
- 15:50Speaker 6: and we were just hiking for I don't know, like ever, yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 6: a lot of time. And then I feel like my
- 15:57Speaker 6: dad he just sees he sees some doughs like on
- 16:02Speaker 6: the top of the ridge kind of up there.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 16:04Speaker 6: They were like on a ridge a finger that was
- 16:06Speaker 6: coming down into like this valley hilly sort of place.
- 16:11Speaker 6: And so we just like, you know, we're just sitting
- 16:14Speaker 6: down and glassing for a minute. And then we decided, well,
- 16:17Speaker 6: let's like get a little bit closer to the dough
- 16:19Speaker 6: so that if a buck pops up over there, then
- 16:22Speaker 6: we can be ready and be able to be like
- 16:24Speaker 6: set up on on the doe so that if a
- 16:27Speaker 6: buck is with them, then we can get that.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta bring your sister into this little
- 16:32Speaker 2: bit because you guys are together. Yeah, okay, So so
- 16:36Speaker 2: you two are hunt with your dad. You guys are
- 16:38Speaker 2: hunting as a three pack?
- 16:39Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 16:41Speaker 2: Have you two at this point because you see these doughs,
- 16:45Speaker 2: but you guys are both packing guns, right?
- 16:47Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 16:48Speaker 2: Have you guys at this point? How have you guys determined?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Like who's up? Who's first?
- 16:54Speaker 6: I got the first shot for the first day, and
- 16:56Speaker 6: so we decided that it'd be better if she got
- 16:58Speaker 6: the shot for the second day, because why would you.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Get the first shot for the first day because you've
- 17:02Speaker 2: already hunted and killed it. Huh, this is your idea.
- 17:07Speaker 7: No, you guys should explain this because people are gonna wonder.
- 17:10Speaker 6: We also kind of agreed that I have got into
- 17:14Speaker 6: turkeys and more squirrels than her, so she should get
- 17:17Speaker 6: the buck shot. I don't know how that works, but
- 17:21Speaker 6: we decided that. And then like the first day, we
- 17:25Speaker 6: were just kind of all hunting together and you know,
- 17:27Speaker 6: because that's we're all together, and you know, she would
- 17:30Speaker 6: she had she had her shot and.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Stuff, and then she had an opportunity.
- 17:35Speaker 6: She had an opportunity, and then she was just dry firing.
- 17:39Speaker 7: A little bit and the buck slipped away.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Yeah, the buck, it wasn't spooked by us, but it
- 17:44Speaker 6: just slipped away.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I know when you were dry firing, I mean you
- 17:46Speaker 2: were like you were getting ready for the shot. Yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 2: that's a good trick.
- 17:49Speaker 4: It's uncomfortable.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a really good trick when you can afford
- 17:52Speaker 2: just get so shaky. Yeah, I got you.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 6: But then second day we decided it would be mine because.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Because you stabbed up abbles and yeah, I guess.
- 18:05Speaker 6: But yeah we had I had the shot second day, and.
- 18:10Speaker 7: Well, so we're on our way to try to get
- 18:13Speaker 7: in there near those dos. Oh no, we actually got
- 18:16Speaker 7: on those doughs.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Yes, we were on the dose and I was, I
- 18:19Speaker 6: was set up and my sister was like behind a
- 18:21Speaker 6: sage brush bush and and then uh we saw on
- 18:27Speaker 6: the ridge line two bucks, a four by four and
- 18:33Speaker 6: a two by three on the ridge line, and they
- 18:35Speaker 6: were coming down. Well first they were just like looking
- 18:38Speaker 6: around in the valley searching for like danger, So we
- 18:40Speaker 6: just stayed really really still, and then they were just
- 18:44Speaker 6: like they decided, I mean, I guess they decided they
- 18:47Speaker 6: were gonna come down into the valley. So we decided
- 18:51Speaker 6: we should like go around the hill like behind it
- 18:54Speaker 6: so that no, no deer sauce and nothing would be
- 18:57Speaker 6: like spooked. So we were just army crawling, like up
- 19:00Speaker 6: to the next hill or maybe next.
- 19:03Speaker 7: Were you army crawling?
- 19:04Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know.
- 19:05Speaker 6: I was kind of crawling on my knees because.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Well, as long as you kept lower than him.
- 19:12Speaker 6: I mean I am lower than him because I mean
- 19:13Speaker 6: I'm just like smaller human. But I did try to
- 19:17Speaker 6: do on my on my feet and it was just
- 19:19Speaker 6: like like I don't know, I don't know what to
- 19:22Speaker 6: call that crouching.
- 19:23Speaker 7: Yeah, it's like it's like walking in a squat position,
- 19:26Speaker 7: which is the classic thing that everybody likes to do
- 19:29Speaker 7: when you tell him we're crawling, now stay low. I
- 19:33Speaker 7: don't know.
- 19:34Speaker 4: It's harder to because then you just won't stand up,
- 19:36Speaker 4: and it's easier to just stand up.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 19:38Speaker 8: I mean I I was still lower.
- 19:39Speaker 9: Than my dad's So did you have to watch out
- 19:41Speaker 9: for cactus?
- 19:42Speaker 8: Oh?
- 19:43Speaker 6: Yes, Oh it's lot.
- 19:47Speaker 5: It's bad. There's a lot of cactuses.
- 19:52Speaker 2: That part of the park full cactus. Okay, so go on.
- 19:57Speaker 6: So we were army crawling for a and then we
- 20:01Speaker 6: like kind of came up around like a hill and
- 20:05Speaker 6: there was like sagebrush around us. My dad tried to
- 20:08Speaker 6: help me get some grass out of the way of
- 20:10Speaker 6: my like, you know.
- 20:11Speaker 7: My shooting your shooting lane, yeah, my.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Shooting lane, and we were both set up. I was
- 20:19Speaker 6: like up a little bit higher on the hill, my
- 20:21Speaker 6: sister was, my dad was between us, and then my
- 20:23Speaker 6: sister was a little bit lower on the hill, and
- 20:25Speaker 6: there was like a road going by us, like on
- 20:29Speaker 6: the other side of the hill. And then you know,
- 20:31Speaker 6: we're just washing the bucks. I could not find the
- 20:35Speaker 6: bucks anywhere because my dad said, oh, they're at the
- 20:38Speaker 6: tip of the sage brush, and I was like, well,
- 20:41Speaker 6: there's a lot of sagebrush here. I didn't say this,
- 20:43Speaker 6: but I was like, there's a lot of sage brush here.
- 20:45Speaker 6: I have no idea what sage brush you're talking about.
- 20:48Speaker 6: And then finally he had to just look into my
- 20:50Speaker 6: gun for me find them, and then hold the gun
- 20:52Speaker 6: for me so I could get behind him. Yeah, and
- 20:57Speaker 6: my sister had actually called the bigger buck, which was
- 21:00Speaker 6: the four by four, But because I guess the bigger
- 21:03Speaker 6: buck had been doing a lot more broadside, like standing broadside,
- 21:07Speaker 6: a lot more than the two by three, my sister,
- 21:10Speaker 6: because she's so nice, decided to give me the bigger one,
- 21:13Speaker 6: because I was like, let's just get they run away,
- 21:16Speaker 6: I'll feel even worse. And then my so I just
- 21:20Speaker 6: I was, you know, set up on the bigger one
- 21:23Speaker 6: and on the road beside us, like I don't know,
- 21:27Speaker 6: I guess a group of cows had been like walking
- 21:30Speaker 6: and yeah, and they were like going over the hill.
- 21:34Speaker 6: But then they were all staring at us the entire
- 21:39Speaker 6: and I was so scared that the bucks were gonna
- 21:41Speaker 6: look at the cows and then try and look at us.
- 21:44Speaker 6: And oh that was like the cows were just staring
- 21:46Speaker 6: at us the entire time. But then it was, I
- 21:48Speaker 6: guess easy to forget about them because then just like
- 21:51Speaker 6: looking at the bucks.
- 21:53Speaker 8: Uh.
- 21:54Speaker 6: But then I, you know, like took my shot, and
- 21:57Speaker 6: I think I shot my dad. I moved away from
- 22:01Speaker 6: the scope like after I shot, so I had no
- 22:05Speaker 6: idea where my buck was because I still didn't know
- 22:07Speaker 6: where on the hillside my buck actually was. I just
- 22:11Speaker 6: had no I knew that in the scope that was
- 22:13Speaker 6: my buck. So I had shot him and I shot
- 22:17Speaker 6: him dead, and then he just he rolled down the
- 22:19Speaker 6: hill somewhere. We actually did have a little bit of
- 22:23Speaker 6: a hard time finding him later, but like maybe five
- 22:27Speaker 6: seconds after my shot in a shot. Her shot was
- 22:32Speaker 6: a little bit low because my dad's range finder had
- 22:35Speaker 6: lost all of its battery.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Sour.
- 22:43Speaker 6: But yeah, like we shot like two seconds after each other. Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 6: and then maybe like maybe two minutes later, I think
- 22:53Speaker 6: I shot again to shot to shoot hers, and I
- 22:56Speaker 6: got the glory of watching hers fall down the hill.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Very kids are laughing too, right, Yeah. Do you guys,
- 23:04Speaker 2: when you're telling stories, when the gun goes off, you
- 23:06Speaker 2: go bouch likes, No, you know about that?
- 23:09Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, we knew that.
- 23:12Speaker 2: If you're a Latvian and a Laban hunting story, a
- 23:14Speaker 2: gun doesn't go bang or it goes bouch.
- 23:18Speaker 6: I mean my dad. My dad has that written on
- 23:22Speaker 6: his orange.
- 23:24Speaker 2: A lot of laughs about that, bouch.
- 23:26Speaker 6: Yeah, but I guess I have never said that in
- 23:28Speaker 6: a story.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Can you start? Please?
- 23:31Speaker 8: Wait?
- 23:31Speaker 6: What? Oh?
- 23:32Speaker 8: Okay?
- 23:34Speaker 6: But yeah, I shot and then we just you know,
- 23:38Speaker 6: stood there for a minute. My dad like slapped us
- 23:40Speaker 6: on the back a lot, because kind of what he
- 23:43Speaker 6: does with animals.
- 23:46Speaker 8: And then.
- 23:48Speaker 6: I don't know, we got up and got all our stuff.
- 23:51Speaker 6: We had actually left our backpacks kind of back there
- 23:53Speaker 6: like where we had been set up on the dose.
- 23:56Speaker 6: So we had to go back and get those because
- 23:57Speaker 6: you know, army crawling is kind of hard with also
- 23:59Speaker 6: like a big backpipe on, and my backpack is blue,
- 24:02Speaker 6: which I'm pretty sure is a color that the deer
- 24:05Speaker 6: can see, and it's like a bright blue, so you know,
- 24:08Speaker 6: I left that behind. Yeah, but then we went and
- 24:10Speaker 6: grabbed those, and then we're just walking up the hill
- 24:12Speaker 6: to find our bucks. As was found pretty easily because
- 24:15Speaker 6: you know, like me and my dad both saw that
- 24:17Speaker 6: one fall down, but ours mine was a little bit
- 24:21Speaker 6: higher up, so I had to look for that one
- 24:22Speaker 6: a little bit. But yeah, we we found him in
- 24:27Speaker 6: the end, and then we like butchered him and we're.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Gonna come back. We're gonna come back to the butchm Park,
- 24:33Speaker 2: trust me. Okay, Rosie, can we move in? You know
- 24:38Speaker 2: we've been teasing rosiebout set up, set up, Boddy, so
- 24:40Speaker 2: you buy your mic. Okay, we've been teasing Rosie. We
- 24:43Speaker 2: periodically remember this and then teaser about it for a
- 24:46Speaker 2: few days. When she was real little.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Oh no no, no, no no no no no no no.
- 24:51Speaker 2: When she was real little, we were out squirrel hunting
- 24:53Speaker 2: and uh and uh, and all of a sudden, I
- 24:56Speaker 2: look and she is little oh three, yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Yeah, better include that part in the store.
- 25:03Speaker 2: And she's back there.
- 25:04Speaker 7: You weren't. You weren't carrying it.
- 25:05Speaker 2: She was just combing the cruising along behind us, you know.
- 25:08Speaker 2: And we now and then look see what happened during
- 25:11Speaker 2: she's back to going spitting spitting something now. And she
- 25:15Speaker 2: had thought she had found some deer ship and thought
- 25:20Speaker 2: it was like a little chocolate No.
- 25:25Speaker 7: I thought that was only a jump that happened in
- 25:27Speaker 7: real life. Yeah, that's an old guy. She thought.
- 25:30Speaker 2: She thought it was like a little chocolate nugget or
- 25:32Speaker 2: something on the ground. They were like, what happened Rosie?
- 25:35Speaker 2: What is that she was she had found that deer
- 25:37Speaker 2: poot was like someone dropped her candy dropped there raising it.
- 25:44Speaker 2: So never remember that we teased Rosie about it. So Rose,
- 25:47Speaker 2: this is your second buck, right yep? Okay? And then
- 25:50Speaker 2: you got your first buck last year, but not during
- 25:52Speaker 2: youth season. What happened during youth season.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Happened?
- 25:58Speaker 5: Oh okay. So jimmy my older brother, had shot a
- 26:04Speaker 5: doe and my dad Pinky promised me that the next
- 26:08Speaker 5: deer that we got in this mystery place that we
- 26:10Speaker 5: were hunting would be mine the next year that we
- 26:13Speaker 5: saw like the next year that we could get it's mine.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And there's that was the Rannella family's last meal deer dough.
- 26:22Speaker 2: We were now or on a more there's a moratorium
- 26:25Speaker 2: on meal der doe killing in the Renella household.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So after Jimmy shot his dough, we went and started
- 26:37Speaker 5: looking and we got down in this little area to
- 26:39Speaker 5: glass and there was quite a bit of fossils in
- 26:42Speaker 5: this area, and I was I was a little more
- 26:44Speaker 5: interested in the fossils than the deer.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And I was very pissed.
- 26:48Speaker 5: He was not happy with me.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Hespective on this a little bit.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yes, the fossils were in the worst skylit part of
- 26:58Speaker 2: the day, so I'm trying to train them to when
- 27:03Speaker 2: you get to a crest, we slip over very quickly
- 27:06Speaker 2: over the top nestle into some brush and glass. So
- 27:11Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, okay, I'm gonna go over night
- 27:14Speaker 2: over the top nestle into some brush. And these two
- 27:18Speaker 2: get right up on the skyline and then low the
- 27:21Speaker 2: behold fossils. So we found I get down, I'm like
- 27:26Speaker 2: a weird I did the whole thing, yell and whisper.
- 27:30Speaker 2: We heard hot we.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Right, yeah, and I said he he was like, okay, well,
- 27:38Speaker 5: if there's a do that comes by to your fall,
- 27:40Speaker 5: I'm not going to feel sorry for you like you can.
- 27:42Speaker 5: He's like, fine, you know, go look at the fossils.
- 27:45Speaker 6: Because I had seen this one in particular, fossil that
- 27:48Speaker 6: I didn't I stupidly didn't.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Pick up, and then I wanted to find it again.
- 27:51Speaker 5: But right as me and my brother are on the skyline.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Looking for fossils, a humongous for or by for pops
- 28:02Speaker 6: right up in this little like goalie staring.
- 28:04Speaker 5: At your like like how many yards away?
- 28:07Speaker 2: Like a hundred yards.
- 28:09Speaker 3: It is staring at.
- 28:10Speaker 5: You so big, and well, you know, the whole thing
- 28:14Speaker 5: happens when my dad like get over here. So we
- 28:16Speaker 5: get set up on it, and he's already gone by
- 28:18Speaker 5: that point. He was not having any of it.
- 28:22Speaker 6: And then my dad's all mad and I'm like, well,
- 28:23Speaker 6: we can go find it again, and he's like, we're
- 28:25Speaker 6: not going to find that thing again.
- 28:27Speaker 3: So we start hiking up the little we started tracking it.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Yes, we started tracking it, and in front of us
- 28:34Speaker 5: probably like how many yards then like three three hundred
- 28:39Speaker 5: yards maybe, No, it's just like, oh, three I.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Mean he just got up at our feet.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we followed him.
- 28:46Speaker 5: I thought it was pretty far away and when he
- 28:48Speaker 5: jumped up.
- 28:48Speaker 6: And.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought he was far away.
- 28:52Speaker 2: No, he was like under us.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Well he like.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Popped out of nowhere, and my brother just takes out
- 28:59Speaker 5: his rifle and shoots him, and broadside or anything. He
- 29:05Speaker 5: just like shot him in the neck and got him.
- 29:08Speaker 5: And I was not happy. I I was not happy
- 29:12Speaker 5: with my dad. I was giving everybody the silent treatment
- 29:15Speaker 5: because that big buck was supposed to be mine. So
- 29:18Speaker 5: I was waiting in this little on this little side
- 29:21Speaker 5: of a little mountain, and while they tried to find
- 29:24Speaker 5: this deer. Thirty minutes later, they're like, we cannot find it.
- 29:27Speaker 5: We need your help. We're gonna go look. So we
- 29:29Speaker 5: blood trail it and we find it and it's it's
- 29:33Speaker 5: dead and it's really big. And I am still not
- 29:36Speaker 5: very happy.
- 29:38Speaker 2: But yeah, so I always say it's not you your
- 29:40Speaker 2: season until someone cries, hey, that is not.
- 29:47Speaker 5: And so yeah, he got that, and then I learned
- 29:50Speaker 5: to be happy for him because he was really happy
- 29:53Speaker 5: it was he got a really nice buck. Then I
- 29:55Speaker 5: ended up getting one. I don't even know where I
- 29:57Speaker 5: ended up getting one. But that place was called Our.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Friends Our Friends Friends Ranch.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I got a nice three by three there.
- 30:07Speaker 2: But then this year came around.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Am I supposed to tell the story of this year.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I'll see it up a little bit. We went up,
- 30:15Speaker 2: we got to our looking nob. No, I'm just setting
- 30:18Speaker 2: setting scene, you can tell. We got to our looking knob.
- 30:22Speaker 5: And and we see these two Wait, where are we
- 30:29Speaker 5: starting from in this story?
- 30:31Speaker 3: Like after I spotted the party meadow?
- 30:35Speaker 5: Oh okay, okay. So we had been chasing these two
- 30:39Speaker 5: deer and we got up on a skyline and they
- 30:41Speaker 5: were there, but they were like far away. I wasn't
- 30:43Speaker 5: zoomed in. I was not ready to shoot it at all.
- 30:47Speaker 5: So they ended up running away. And then all of
- 30:49Speaker 5: a sudden, deer started coming out of nowhere.
- 30:51Speaker 7: You know what we now know?
- 30:53Speaker 2: You know what spooked them? What was? Oh?
- 30:57Speaker 3: Tell us girls shooting shooting scared.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And they didn't even know where shots came from. We
- 31:02Speaker 2: were like, we're watching them, and all a sudden, you
- 31:06Speaker 2: and they just got up, like the does got up
- 31:09Speaker 2: and were looking over and they just started milling around
- 31:12Speaker 2: and milled off. Its just it was enough to Yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 2: they were I mean I mean she got up and
- 31:17Speaker 2: she just like it was it was a ricochet sound,
- 31:20Speaker 2: and she just got uneasy and want to leave you.
- 31:25Speaker 5: But yeah, so I was I had one of the
- 31:28Speaker 5: bucks in my scope, but like I wasn't zoomed in.
- 31:30Speaker 5: I just wasn't ready. Then they got spooked and deer
- 31:32Speaker 5: were coming out of nowhere. But they were everywhere like
- 31:34Speaker 5: there was bucks just like almost seemed like they were
- 31:37Speaker 5: running out of the hills. Yeah, there's so many of them,
- 31:40Speaker 5: and they all ran into this one little meadow that
- 31:43Speaker 5: we called the party meadow because all the big bucks
- 31:45Speaker 5: were having a party there. So we end up starting
- 31:49Speaker 5: to follow this little We go on the side of
- 31:51Speaker 5: this little mountain. No, no, no, no, no.
- 31:54Speaker 2: What we watched four bucks okay, name was the ones name?
- 32:00Speaker 5: Okay one one of the ones name was Houdini, And
- 32:05Speaker 5: there was.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Three bucks that we didn't name, and we watched them
- 32:10Speaker 2: until they bed down.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Okay, so there's a bunch of us.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Did what when they batted down? And what did we do?
- 32:17Speaker 2: We walked, well, no, not before we what we identified
- 32:23Speaker 2: where what our shooting perch was going.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, so we we found we from this ridgeline.
- 32:31Speaker 5: We found a good place to get set up on
- 32:33Speaker 5: that we.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Knew where we had three bucks bedded, and we knew
- 32:35Speaker 2: what our our shooting perch was, right, and we even
- 32:40Speaker 2: like dropped little pins on the map. We think they're there.
- 32:43Speaker 2: We're trying to get here. Yeah, So and then we
- 32:47Speaker 2: started walking.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Now we start walking on this little side of the
- 32:50Speaker 5: mountain where they can't where the deer can't see us,
- 32:52Speaker 5: and I end up finding in deer shed and we
- 32:57Speaker 5: see this really really old dough just like betted down
- 33:01Speaker 5: in this nice little shady area.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Don't tell everybody what we called her. Oh yeah, you
- 33:07Speaker 2: didn't tell anybody, I know, but.
- 33:08Speaker 5: I almost did. Well I didn't almost, I didn't almost,
- 33:13Speaker 5: but like yeah, so we see this really old dough
- 33:20Speaker 5: and we're like worried because we need to get We
- 33:22Speaker 5: need to like kind of go near her to get
- 33:24Speaker 5: to where we're trying to go. But we're worried that
- 33:26Speaker 5: she's going to scare the deer in the party meadow,
- 33:29Speaker 5: so we like take our chances. We're like, well, it's
- 33:31Speaker 5: gonna get hot, so we should probably get going over
- 33:34Speaker 5: to these deer, So we take our chances. She does
- 33:36Speaker 5: end up spooking and then she ends up spooking another
- 33:39Speaker 5: buck that we didn't even know about. But he was
- 33:43Speaker 5: gone so fast, like.
- 33:44Speaker 2: They didn't blow through. They didn't they go.
- 33:46Speaker 5: Through where we were trying to get.
- 33:49Speaker 2: They didn't spook our bucks.
- 33:50Speaker 5: So we find our little perch and army crawl over
- 33:54Speaker 5: to well it wasn't even army crawl because we were
- 33:56Speaker 5: so close to them.
- 33:57Speaker 2: We had to snakes.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Yes, we had to be very very very careful. We
- 34:02Speaker 5: had to be very very careful because they I think
- 34:06Speaker 5: it's really easy for them to spook. And so we're
- 34:10Speaker 5: in this little part where I don't know. Somehow my
- 34:14Speaker 5: dad sees a bunch of antlers poking up, but I
- 34:16Speaker 5: do not see those, so I take it. Takes a
- 34:19Speaker 5: little time to find them, but they're all bedded down,
- 34:23Speaker 5: and I'm lined up on the biggest one because you know,
- 34:27Speaker 5: why just take this moment when you can up the
- 34:29Speaker 5: big one and the other one that I'm not another
- 34:34Speaker 5: nice one stands up and I'm not even on him.
- 34:36Speaker 5: So I get on him and I cannot see his
- 34:38Speaker 5: shoulder blade because of the glare in the sun.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I want to clarify this point too. Okay, we're talking.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I'm saying now, remember where you're gonna shoot it. I said,
- 34:48Speaker 2: you got to see that, you know, you see the
- 34:50Speaker 2: back of the shoulder, that little crease, so right in
- 34:53Speaker 2: that crease, halfway up and down, And when the deer
- 34:55Speaker 2: stands up, there's nothing in front of it. But she's saying,
- 34:58Speaker 2: I can't see it shoulder, So I can't figure out
- 35:02Speaker 2: what she must be looking at, like she sees some
- 35:04Speaker 2: other deer. But I realized, tell what you meant when
- 35:07Speaker 2: you said you can't see its.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Shoulder, Like there was a glare in the sun where
- 35:11Speaker 5: the whole deer looked like this dark gray color. So
- 35:14Speaker 5: I couldn't like see it.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You couldn't see the actual please, So.
- 35:18Speaker 8: I was like.
- 35:19Speaker 5: My dad was like, just like try your best. Just
- 35:21Speaker 5: think about, like, think about where you're gonna need to
- 35:24Speaker 5: shoot it. So I took my best guess, and I
- 35:26Speaker 5: ended up shooting it in the right place.
- 35:29Speaker 2: We'll tell him what happened to it, what was missing
- 35:31Speaker 2: out of it? It's heart, Yeah, I believe the bottom
- 35:34Speaker 2: right off the heart nice.
- 35:37Speaker 5: So yeah, And we waited a little bit ate, some
- 35:40Speaker 5: lunch got over there, and we couldn't find him for
- 35:43Speaker 5: about like five minutes, and my dad was making me
- 35:46Speaker 5: feel very doubtful about finding him. I was like, are
- 35:49Speaker 5: we gonna find He.
- 35:49Speaker 8: Was like, I don't know.
- 35:52Speaker 2: It was just too many, it's too many questions.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Hey, no, but you did say that. You can't deny
- 35:55Speaker 5: that I did.
- 35:56Speaker 2: But I knew it was in there somewhere, but I
- 35:58Speaker 2: couldn't figure out where it was. So I just like,
- 36:00Speaker 2: just give me a second. And it was laying right there,
- 36:02Speaker 2: tall sage brush.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Our friend showed us where like he found the deer,
- 36:09Speaker 5: Jeremy Romero. Yeah, and we all went over there and
- 36:14Speaker 5: he was actually like bigger than we thought he was.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I was telling Rosie. Normally they get small when
- 36:19Speaker 2: you find him. You never find a bucket. He's bigger.
- 36:22Speaker 9: He thought he was ground shrinkage.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we had ground growage.
- 36:27Speaker 5: He did not look that big from when I was
- 36:29Speaker 5: lined up on him, but he was. He's actually like
- 36:31Speaker 5: a really nice three by three.
- 36:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Great. Now, Butchering, what you guys take on butcher And
- 36:44Speaker 2: you want to start out just your general impressions of Butchering.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I personally really love Butchering. I find it very satisfied.
- 36:50Speaker 7: You got to get on the mic.
- 36:52Speaker 6: Sorry, very like order a lot orderly and satisfying to
- 36:57Speaker 6: just get it all chopped up and stuff like.
- 37:00Speaker 2: You appreciate you appreciate the orderly in this up. Help
- 37:03Speaker 2: me understand what you mean with orderly.
- 37:05Speaker 6: I don't know, it's just very like I personally find
- 37:08Speaker 6: skinning animals very very satisfying, which is probably pretty weird.
- 37:14Speaker 2: But do you do you appreciate that there's like step one,
- 37:17Speaker 2: step two, step three. Is that that's orderly?
- 37:19Speaker 6: Yeah, there's like the things you do and then it
- 37:22Speaker 6: like just all kind of falls into place for the
- 37:25Speaker 6: end result.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Do you enjoy cooking it?
- 37:29Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 37:31Speaker 4: Cooking really fun.
- 37:32Speaker 2: So you like that too?
- 37:33Speaker 7: Yeah? Have you cooked any any meat?
- 37:35Speaker 4: Yes?
- 37:36Speaker 7: Yeah? Yeah when I'm gone.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you guys help out in the kitchen, but.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Not when he's here. He's our personal chef. When he's home,
- 37:44Speaker 4: he can do it all.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Mabel, what did you think about that? Was this your
- 37:48Speaker 2: first butchering job?
- 37:49Speaker 6: Yes, I mean other than kind of like Scuross, But
- 37:53Speaker 6: I do not like butchering even a little bit.
- 37:56Speaker 3: You don't like you know, I don't like this.
- 38:00Speaker 6: Mells.
- 38:02Speaker 4: We're getting dirty.
- 38:04Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 38:04Speaker 6: It's like if you like, once you get blood on
- 38:07Speaker 6: your hands, everything sticks to your hands and then like
- 38:11Speaker 6: a smell of the stomach and then yeah.
- 38:15Speaker 9: Did you notice that your farts smell like the guts? Afterwards?
- 38:18Speaker 3: I mean I feel like I had like called maybe.
- 38:23Speaker 6: I don't know, like I don't I don't normally try
- 38:26Speaker 6: to smell my farts, but I guess it.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Happens on accident.
- 38:32Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, but I don't like butchering, especially like
- 38:37Speaker 6: the stomach, and that it smells really really bad.
- 38:42Speaker 2: When she gets done. Before she leaves, she needs to
- 38:46Speaker 2: cut the stomach open. Yes, which is the boringest stomach
- 38:49Speaker 2: in the world. She thinks there's gonna be something in there,
- 38:51Speaker 2: like a like a mouse or something. It's just chewed
- 38:54Speaker 2: up grass.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Well, I don't think that there's gonna be something in there.
- 38:56Speaker 5: I just like I want to think that there's also
- 38:59Speaker 5: how do you have some stuff to finish off a
- 39:00Speaker 5: dear story too?
- 39:01Speaker 2: Oh we'll get Yeah, we're getting there where we leave
- 39:05Speaker 2: it with your dear story?
- 39:07Speaker 8: After my dad told me to get down from the
- 39:09Speaker 8: top of the hill.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Oh, we didn't finish the getting it deer. No, ok,
- 39:14Speaker 2: maybe finished telling us about how you don't like it. Well,
- 39:17Speaker 2: I realized we missed the end of the deer story
- 39:20Speaker 2: the job. Thanks for reminding me you don't want nothing
- 39:23Speaker 2: to do.
- 39:24Speaker 6: I mean, I like, it's like cool because I know that,
- 39:27Speaker 6: like I'm gonna eat it, and it like tastes really
- 39:29Speaker 6: good when I ate it, of course, but like it
- 39:32Speaker 6: it's never been like the thing. And then when you're
- 39:37Speaker 6: carrying it back, like there's just like the juice everywhere,
- 39:41Speaker 6: and like there's just like such juices everywhere you look,
- 39:45Speaker 6: except for the fact that the one thing that I
- 39:47Speaker 6: really liked about butchering is I brought up the idea
- 39:51Speaker 6: of hot buttered buck nuts and bringing those back to camp,
- 39:54Speaker 6: which was still that was the whole thing.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Yeah, that's a lot.
- 39:57Speaker 2: What I recommend that as you as to get older,
- 40:00Speaker 2: you and your sister continue to hunt together because you're
- 40:02Speaker 2: gonna have a hell of a time with the butchering.
- 40:06Speaker 2: But if she likes but yeah, it's like Jack Spratt
- 40:10Speaker 2: would eat no fat, his wife would eat no lean.
- 40:12Speaker 2: So someday make a poem like that about you, and I.
- 40:14Speaker 7: Know, yeah, probably you're a good leg holder.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Like I don't really care, but like I don't like
- 40:20Speaker 6: want to like stick my hands in its guts. I
- 40:23Speaker 6: don't like that I get your pretty close dirty Hey, okay,
- 40:26Speaker 6: you put you actually put blood on my vants.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Well, yeah, that's all right.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Maybe you'll grow into it, maybe you won't. I don't know.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:36Speaker 2: That's good though. Okay, so hattie, I'm sorry. We didn't
- 40:39Speaker 2: get to the we didn't get to I don't know
- 40:40Speaker 2: what that was bad hosting. We didn't we didn't get
- 40:42Speaker 2: to the buck. Okay, so there we are. Your dad's
- 40:45Speaker 2: screaming and yelling at you.
- 40:47Speaker 8: It was like, okay, but by the way, sorry for
- 40:52Speaker 8: sorry dad for bringing for Steve bringing that up. But
- 40:58Speaker 8: after he did that, he told me to get down
- 41:00Speaker 8: and then he started like glassing and trying to find it.
- 41:04Speaker 8: And then he said get over here, and then he
- 41:07Speaker 8: found it. So he was like, take your backpack off
- 41:11Speaker 8: and put it in this spot and carry the tripod.
- 41:16Speaker 8: So and he was like, we're gonna get to the
- 41:17Speaker 8: top of that hill and you're gonna army crawl all
- 41:20Speaker 8: the way up there. So we did, and then he
- 41:22Speaker 8: told me to set up the tripod. So I set
- 41:25Speaker 8: up the tripod and then he was like glassing it
- 41:29Speaker 8: trying to find it from there, and he was like,
- 41:32Speaker 8: we're busted. It sees us and I was like, where
- 41:34Speaker 8: is it?
- 41:35Speaker 3: I don't see it.
- 41:36Speaker 8: And then that went on for probably like six minutes
- 41:40Speaker 8: of me not being able to find my buck. When
- 41:42Speaker 8: I was staring right at us like one hundred yards
- 41:47Speaker 8: not bad, okay.
- 41:50Speaker 5: And.
- 41:52Speaker 8: Then I like find it. And then I was watching
- 41:56Speaker 8: it for a while and I didn't see it move,
- 42:01Speaker 8: but my dad didn't, and it moved broadside because it
- 42:04Speaker 8: like saw us move, so it was like, oh, I'm
- 42:06Speaker 8: out of here.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Got it?
- 42:07Speaker 8: So then he went up onto this like hill kind
- 42:10Speaker 8: of spot and went broadside, and my dad told me
- 42:13Speaker 8: he stood up, and I was like where, I don't
- 42:15Speaker 8: see it, And then I found his like white nose
- 42:19Speaker 8: and then went off of that and just moved and
- 42:21Speaker 8: right where I lined up his foot, I found his
- 42:24Speaker 8: foot and went up, and right as I got on
- 42:26Speaker 8: the top of his shoulder, I shot him. And I
- 42:29Speaker 8: thought he like ran forward, because that's what my last
- 42:31Speaker 8: buck did. He ran forward, but he actually felt ran
- 42:34Speaker 8: backwards and fell into this like ravine. So it took
- 42:38Speaker 8: us ten minutes to find him because he all was
- 42:40Speaker 8: like clumped up in like a doughnut.
- 42:43Speaker 2: He was he was hidden away in there.
- 42:46Speaker 8: Yeah, So my dad thought he was a rock for
- 42:48Speaker 8: a while until he like took a second look when
- 42:51Speaker 8: he went back around and then pulled him out, and
- 42:54Speaker 8: I was like, he's a lot smaller than.
- 42:56Speaker 2: What he looked like in the scope ground shrinkage.
- 42:59Speaker 8: Yeah, and then he pulled and then my dad pulled
- 43:03Speaker 8: him to this like shade spot cut him up my
- 43:07Speaker 8: dad's knife.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Did you help cut him up?
- 43:09Speaker 8: I helped the leg my dad.
- 43:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:12Speaker 8: But my dad didn't want me to cut myself with
- 43:14Speaker 8: his knife because they're really sharp, so he let me
- 43:18Speaker 8: cut open like the bladder and like the liver and
- 43:21Speaker 8: stuff and look at the heart and all that.
- 43:24Speaker 2: So do you like the butcher and process? Uh?
- 43:27Speaker 8: Yeah, next year he said I could help him with it.
- 43:29Speaker 8: So then I just learned how to do it myself.
- 43:33Speaker 2: So when you go hot with your friends, you could
- 43:34Speaker 2: be the person the butchers. Mm hmm, got it. And
- 43:39Speaker 2: then what about did you carry some in your pack?
- 43:43Speaker 8: Yeah? This time I was actually able to carry a
- 43:46Speaker 8: lot because I got an actual backpack. And last year
- 43:48Speaker 8: I was using like a school backpack and it was
- 43:53Speaker 8: an actual backpack, and like this was an actual hunting
- 43:56Speaker 8: backpack and I was able to carr a lot more,
- 44:00Speaker 8: which for my dad, he said it felt a lot
- 44:03Speaker 8: better on his back, but it.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Was did you take some of the weight?
- 44:06Speaker 8: Yeah? Sure, And then like you put it on my
- 44:10Speaker 8: back and I almost fell backwards because I wasn't ready
- 44:12Speaker 8: for how heavy it was going to be, and then
- 44:14Speaker 8: he had to catch me. But then I was fine.
- 44:17Speaker 8: And when I took it off, I felt like a fleather,
- 44:20Speaker 8: like a feather. Oh when you got When I got
- 44:23Speaker 8: back to camp, I felt like a feather.
- 44:25Speaker 5: When I was packing my dear it, my neck and
- 44:29Speaker 5: shoulders hurt so bad like it, and we were.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Like a mile so we didn't We didn't do your
- 44:37Speaker 2: waist belt quite right either. Yeah, so all that weight
- 44:40Speaker 2: was on your on your shoulders.
- 44:41Speaker 7: How many legs did you pack out? Rosie?
- 44:44Speaker 5: I packed out everybody's.
- 44:46Speaker 2: She carried all the gear in the head and we
- 44:48Speaker 2: carried everything else.
- 44:49Speaker 5: The head was surprisingly heavier than I thought it was, well,
- 44:53Speaker 5: especially you know, we packed him out with part of
- 44:56Speaker 5: the neck tach that we could take them.
- 44:58Speaker 7: In and get them tested. And those heads get real
- 45:01Speaker 7: heavy when you're packing them out like that.
- 45:05Speaker 2: You guys, has everybody here done the have you guys
- 45:08Speaker 2: all had did you ever come to do the trivia show.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Now you never did. Okay, so these guys of Aina,

- 45:46Speaker 2: We're gonna make more of the Kids Podcast. Season two
- 45:48Speaker 2: of the Kids Show. Season two of the Kids Podcast
- 45:51Speaker 2: We're not done with you guys yet. You got more questions?
- 45:54Speaker 2: Season two of the Kids Podcast launches Monday, November TWI
- 46:00Speaker 2: here's deal. It's on its own podcast feed. Before when
- 46:03Speaker 2: we did the Kids Podcast, the Kids Podcast was always
- 46:06Speaker 2: put into the Meat Eater podcast feed. It's gonna live
- 46:08Speaker 2: on its own feed going forward, we'll probably do one
- 46:10Speaker 2: or I don't know, maybe one on the regular feed.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I don't know. So November eighteen, so.
- 46:19Speaker 7: To find it, you just searched kids trivia.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Well, I'll get to that in a minute. What is
- 46:23Speaker 2: the feed called. That's a good question, you honest me
- 46:26Speaker 2: Eater Kids Podcast, good question if you'd like to listen
- 46:30Speaker 2: to this, if you're listening right now, on the day
- 46:32Speaker 2: this episode dropped, November eighteen, we just launched the season
- 46:36Speaker 2: two trailer and we posted season one so so uh,
- 46:42Speaker 2: we got a season two trailer. And also we're moving
- 46:45Speaker 2: episodes one to five over to the kids podcast feed.
- 46:49Speaker 2: So now that we're getting serious about the kids podcast,
- 46:51Speaker 2: it's gonna have its own feed. We're gonna move episodes
- 46:54Speaker 2: one to five on that feed and start adding to them.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Every week. We'll have a new drop of a new
- 46:58Speaker 2: kid's episode going forward for five weeks. It'll run through
- 47:03Speaker 2: December twenty, third day before Christmas. So we're kind of
- 47:06Speaker 2: lining it up so when your kids are home for
- 47:09Speaker 2: the holidays, whatever, you got the podcast feed, and then
- 47:11Speaker 2: the next time we drop more will drop it off,
- 47:13Speaker 2: maybe the beginning of summer break or however.
- 47:15Speaker 5: We do it.
- 47:16Speaker 2: We also got a new Kids Podcast t shirt available
- 47:19Speaker 2: in the Meat Eater store right now. Now, I got
- 47:23Speaker 2: a new line of question for each of you we're
- 47:25Speaker 2: gonna go back to Aina and then we'll see what
- 47:30Speaker 2: kind of questions. Corey might have some questions because as
- 47:32Speaker 2: a person who's got kids coming up, he might have
- 47:34Speaker 2: some questions. But here's my question for Aina, what is
- 47:37Speaker 2: the one piece of advice you would give to moms
- 47:42Speaker 2: or dads whoever taking kids out for their first hunts.
- 47:48Speaker 6: I would probably just say make it fun, like, don't
- 47:51Speaker 6: try to push too much. It's good when you have it,
- 47:56Speaker 6: like when you have the capability to be pushed, but
- 47:58Speaker 6: if you're taking like a nine year old out and
- 48:01Speaker 6: they're just hunting with you or something, and they're like, oh,
- 48:03Speaker 6: I'm so tired. And if they're like younger than kids,
- 48:06Speaker 6: you're like us, who we can be pushed. We're old
- 48:09Speaker 6: enough to be pushed, but it gets like un fun
- 48:11Speaker 6: where then you're like, oh, I don't want to go
- 48:13Speaker 6: hunting because I know it's gonna get so so hard
- 48:15Speaker 6: that it's not going to be fun anymore.
- 48:17Speaker 2: M that's fine. I asked you. I don't agree. I
- 48:21Speaker 2: don't agree. So that's your opinion. I asked you for
- 48:23Speaker 2: your opinion that you have it. I bet you got pushed.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, but it makes it makes you a better
- 48:29Speaker 4: person and a better hunter.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Uh huh huh. But your piece of advice is don't
- 48:34Speaker 2: you really get pushed a lot? Yes, she just gave
- 48:37Speaker 2: him a look.
- 48:41Speaker 6: Uh.
- 48:41Speaker 2: One day we had it where Aina was gonna hunt
- 48:43Speaker 2: with a different Aina and Mabel, we're gonna split up.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Aiah was gonna hunt with someone different. She wanted to
- 48:47Speaker 2: know if they walked faster than her dad, and she's
- 48:51Speaker 2: glad to hear that they did not walk faster.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Long enough lugs where I can keep up with him.
- 48:55Speaker 6: But if you go faster than him, I'm him. I'm
- 48:58Speaker 6: gonna be left in the dust.
- 48:59Speaker 2: But he's one of the faster walkers I hang out with.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so you're you're training at top level. Yes, Mabel.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Piece of advice for mom's dads taking kids hunting, I.
- 49:10Speaker 8: Mean, like.
- 49:13Speaker 6: Like honestly, like make sure that like not that I
- 49:17Speaker 6: don't want to go hunting. I love hunting, but like
- 49:19Speaker 6: make sure your kid like really really wants to go,
- 49:22Speaker 6: because if they don't want to go, and then you
- 49:25Speaker 6: think that they do, and then you push them to
- 49:27Speaker 6: go like every single time, then they're gonna not want
- 49:30Speaker 6: to hunt at all. You think that, Yeah, I mean
- 49:33Speaker 6: that happened with like my like my cousin, like his dad.
- 49:37Speaker 6: People at him duck hunt like all the time, and
- 49:40Speaker 6: he didn't like it because of I think the cold.
- 49:42Speaker 6: But then like now he doesn't like doing it at
- 49:45Speaker 6: all because he was like pushed.
- 49:46Speaker 4: To do it too much. I mean, I love hunting.
- 49:49Speaker 6: I love that my dad pushes me because otherwise I
- 49:51Speaker 6: probably wouldn't do it. I'd like in the morning when
- 49:54Speaker 6: he wakes me up, I'd be like, I don't want
- 49:56Speaker 6: to go, but that because he pushes me, like he
- 49:59Speaker 6: like makes me like want to go. And then I realized,
- 50:01Speaker 6: like how fun it is when I'm out there. But like,
- 50:04Speaker 6: like make sure they do have interest in it, because
- 50:07Speaker 6: otherwise they'll just like be pushed onto it all the
- 50:09Speaker 6: time and then they don't want they don't want to
- 50:11Speaker 6: do it at all.
- 50:12Speaker 9: That's something I'm really paranoid about, is overdoing it, over
- 50:15Speaker 9: pushing them.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I disagree with WHOA, I disagree that's your opinion. I'm
- 50:23Speaker 2: glad you have it. I just don't think it's true.
- 50:26Speaker 7: Well you've had good luck. Well it's still early, but
- 50:31Speaker 7: with your three kids, they've accepted pushing very well. But
- 50:37Speaker 7: in my universe. I just know too many that pushed
- 50:42Speaker 7: and it wound up not working out. Really, yeah, and
- 50:45Speaker 7: it's sad.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Because I feel just plug your ears, Rosie. I'm not
- 50:52Speaker 2: like at a certain age, I'm not interested. I'm not
- 50:57Speaker 2: terribly interested in what they want to do. No, I
- 51:02Speaker 2: mean it's true. Well, like we'll say we're gonna go
- 51:05Speaker 2: camping this weekend. Inevitably, inevitably, this is gonna be some
- 51:10Speaker 2: Oh I can't. I didn't want to. I was supposed to.
- 51:13Speaker 2: I was gonna all right, or like it's just we
- 51:17Speaker 2: don't need of us cares. Speaking me and my wife,
- 51:19Speaker 2: you know, like need of us cares. We're going camp
- 51:21Speaker 2: this weekend, go camping, come home. Every had a great time.
- 51:25Speaker 2: They don't want to leave so much fun. They're they're
- 51:27Speaker 2: exhausted from physical activity. Right. And if we had said, like,
- 51:31Speaker 2: you know, to little kids, do you want to go camping? Like,
- 51:34Speaker 2: oh no, because I was gonna go to Billy's house
- 51:38Speaker 2: and be like, Okay, I guess we'll cancel that plan,
- 51:40Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 51:41Speaker 9: Oh yeah, if I were to ask my kid, what
- 51:42Speaker 9: do you want to do this weekend? You'll say, I
- 51:44Speaker 9: don't eat fun dip and stare at my tablet.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, so we're doing that. Yeah, we just haven't.
- 51:50Speaker 2: I know it changes later, but early on we just
- 51:53Speaker 2: we kind of like we made a plan and that
- 51:55Speaker 2: was the plan.
- 51:55Speaker 9: And you're able to mold them still.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, there's a point at which I agree. I'm
- 52:00Speaker 2: sure it's true, and I there's a point at which agree,
- 52:03Speaker 2: But I think that I see people too often. I
- 52:11Speaker 2: don't know, like like cave, it's hard to get every
- 52:13Speaker 2: out the door. I agree with that, it's hard to
- 52:15Speaker 2: get every out the door. It's a lot of clothes,
- 52:17Speaker 2: it's a lot of gear, it's a lot of complaining.
- 52:19Speaker 2: You gotta have just like you gotta be like the
- 52:21Speaker 2: force of a tornado and just be like, dude, we're going.
- 52:25Speaker 2: We're getting stuff. Maybe it's not perfect, but we're gonna
- 52:28Speaker 2: get enough stuff packed and we're going at a point.
- 52:33Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I think there it's a balance, right, because
- 52:37Speaker 7: that depending on what scale you're using, what you're describing
- 52:42Speaker 7: might only be a three in someone's version of how
- 52:44Speaker 7: much you pushed or didn't push, right, but maybe you
- 52:48Speaker 7: escalate that to a seven, and then all of a
- 52:51Speaker 7: sudden they're just like, you know what really I'm done camping, bro.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we're not like dragging them out. We're not
- 52:58Speaker 2: like dragging them out in and loading them in the cot.
- 53:01Speaker 7: And you're like, hey, kids, you ever heard of winter camping?
- 53:04Speaker 7: It's negative ten. It's still almost as fun but cold.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I got you, hattie advice, and I might disagree
- 53:13Speaker 2: with you. Well, what advice you have for moms and
- 53:18Speaker 2: dads who want to take the kids out hunting? From
- 53:20Speaker 2: a kid's perspective? Seasoned the kid?
- 53:22Speaker 8: Okay, if your kid wants to take a break, just
- 53:28Speaker 8: take like a five minute break and let them, I
- 53:30Speaker 8: don't know, catch themselves instead of just saying no, we're
- 53:33Speaker 8: gonna hike one mile and then you can take your
- 53:38Speaker 8: disagree with you and also bring more food than you
- 53:42Speaker 8: think you will.
- 53:43Speaker 6: That I agree with everything you just said.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I agree with that.
- 53:47Speaker 2: I don't think and I'm speaking of kids general. I
- 53:50Speaker 2: don't think kids have a great sense of when it's
- 53:52Speaker 2: time to take a break.
- 53:54Speaker 5: Well, also miss their whole entire Okay, I guess Yeah,
- 53:59Speaker 5: I've been hiking for my whole life. But you're like
- 54:01Speaker 5: fifty years old, you I should be.
- 54:04Speaker 2: I'm on the downward slide.
- 54:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but think about this. You've been doing this your
- 54:09Speaker 5: whole entire livingness of fifty years. So it's different when
- 54:14Speaker 5: you're like a little kid.
- 54:15Speaker 2: No, you guys want to take breaks in the dumbest places.
- 54:19Speaker 2: We'll be down in some little ditch bottom where you
- 54:21Speaker 2: can't see a single thing. Let's have a break. Like,
- 54:23Speaker 2: let's have a break while we're up looking at fresh ground.
- 54:26Speaker 7: That's true.
- 54:28Speaker 5: Not true.
- 54:30Speaker 4: Also, don't push too much.
- 54:31Speaker 2: I'll be like, we canna have a break. See that
- 54:33Speaker 2: spot up there. We get to that spot, we're gonna
- 54:35Speaker 2: nestle in and we'll have a break.
- 54:36Speaker 4: That's that.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Then that thought likes to take breaks in the right.
- 54:42Speaker 6: That you're talking out there, and then we can take
- 54:44Speaker 6: a break. That certain spot that you see is like
- 54:47Speaker 6: five miles away, and you're like, you're like, oh, roum
- 54:51Speaker 6: is there.
- 54:51Speaker 7: No, we're not.
- 54:52Speaker 5: We're not almost there.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you got your kids and everything that's happened with
- 54:56Speaker 2: you kids, you'll appreciate this someday. They've trained you like,
- 55:03Speaker 2: this whole thing with you guys in the water is
- 55:05Speaker 2: out of control.
- 55:06Speaker 5: Well, how don't we saved that? For what I'm what
- 55:08Speaker 5: my advice is, Yah, I would like to talk, No.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Kidd, I mean, just think about it. It sounds like
- 55:17Speaker 2: a Roidney dangerfield thing. But like when I was a kid,
- 55:20Speaker 2: no kid had a water bottle.
- 55:22Speaker 5: No gotta save this from when I'm talking about like
- 55:25Speaker 5: what like advice.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Okay, all right, but uh, I'll get to your advice
- 55:29Speaker 2: one second. I want to go back to this. The
- 55:31Speaker 2: food thing I think is is I I agree hundred percent.
- 55:36Speaker 2: I agree with breaks, but I think you guys don't
- 55:38Speaker 2: have a well timed sense of when to take them.
- 55:40Speaker 2: The food thing, You're exactly right, put way more food
- 55:45Speaker 2: in your pack than you would ever think anyone could
- 55:48Speaker 2: possibly eat, end of a greater variety, right you guys
- 55:52Speaker 2: hearing me, Yes, huge variety, huge quantity.
- 55:56Speaker 7: But don't worry about the water.
- 55:59Speaker 5: I think.
- 56:00Speaker 6: I think about like the kid thing where the kids
- 56:03Speaker 6: have like a bad sense of when to take a break.
- 56:05Speaker 6: It's like, but if we get up to a good
- 56:08Speaker 6: spot where we could take a break and it'd be
- 56:10Speaker 6: like a good spot, then my dad is like, oh,
- 56:13Speaker 6: let's take a break, instead of me saying I want
- 56:15Speaker 6: to take a break here, It's like we only like
- 56:19Speaker 6: take breaks if we wounded the bad parts because we
- 56:22Speaker 6: like are tired down there for like some odd really bad.
- 56:26Speaker 2: He wants taking a break.
- 56:29Speaker 8: Yeah, like yeah, but like I'm.
- 56:34Speaker 6: Yeah, like when we're in a good spot to take
- 56:36Speaker 6: a break, like I would say take a break, but
- 56:39Speaker 6: my dad's like he like knows when we're like about
- 56:42Speaker 6: to say let's take a break. And then he's like,
- 56:44Speaker 6: all right, well, like you see that perfect spot up there,
- 56:47Speaker 6: we'll take a break up there before us saying it.
- 56:49Speaker 6: So it's like, yeah, so we're not.
- 56:53Speaker 8: Yeah, I agree with your They don't choose the right
- 56:56Speaker 8: time to take a break, Like you'll be in the
- 56:59Speaker 8: middle of a and they'll want to take a break.
- 57:02Speaker 8: But I feel like it's also depending on your age,
- 57:05Speaker 8: Like you could be yeah, like fifteen years old and
- 57:08Speaker 8: no one to take a break because you've been hunting
- 57:11Speaker 8: for like five years. Yeah, so you'd understand like a
- 57:14Speaker 8: sense of when to But like when you're when it's
- 57:17Speaker 8: like six thirty in the morning and you're hiking up
- 57:20Speaker 8: this gigantic hill when it's pitch dark out, you don't
- 57:24Speaker 8: don't really know where you are and it's six thirty
- 57:26Speaker 8: in the morning, so you don't want to take a break.
- 57:29Speaker 2: But everybody else knows you got to get somewhere yeah,
- 57:31Speaker 2: but I'm not opposed breaks because the best part of
- 57:34Speaker 2: my youth hunt this season. I was with Rosie and
- 57:37Speaker 2: her little brother Matthew, and we got to be noon
- 57:42Speaker 2: and we were just staying out. We weren't going back.
- 57:44Speaker 2: We're just you know, everybody stayed had the plan to
- 57:46Speaker 2: stay out and hunt all day until dark. So it
- 57:49Speaker 2: was noon and Rosie laid on my left shoulder and
- 57:53Speaker 2: Maddie was laid on my right shoulder and they fell
- 57:55Speaker 2: asleep and they didn't wake up till two. And I'm
- 57:59Speaker 2: used to taken like I'll take a power nap with
- 58:02Speaker 2: the best of them, but I'm not used to the
- 58:03Speaker 2: two hour power nap. But that was very relaxing for me.
- 58:08Speaker 5: No, it was. It was almost three hours because we
- 58:10Speaker 5: munch about at like eleven thirty and then woke up
- 58:13Speaker 5: at like two.
- 58:14Speaker 2: So yep. And you know, we had a magic We
- 58:17Speaker 2: had a magic secret bullet in our packs. We brought
- 58:20Speaker 2: a couple of mini cans a pop soda so after
- 58:25Speaker 2: so after naptime, you could bust out one of them
- 58:28Speaker 2: cans a pop and that just gets you gets you
- 58:29Speaker 2: ready to rock. All right, Rose, what's your Rosemary? Hit
- 58:34Speaker 2: me with your advice to moms and dads taking their
- 58:36Speaker 2: kids hunt. And then then we're gonna see what Corey's
- 58:39Speaker 2: gonna have some questions for you guys. I'm guessing because.
- 58:41Speaker 5: He's got a kid coming up, all right, So just
- 58:45Speaker 5: like like what I just said, like make it fun,
- 58:48Speaker 5: Like I know this ruined my chance to get a
- 58:51Speaker 5: big deer, but maybe maybe do a little like like
- 58:57Speaker 5: not taking like a break, like sitting down, and like
- 59:01Speaker 5: maybe going in just like looking for like bugs or
- 59:04Speaker 5: something like anything like fun to get their minds off
- 59:07Speaker 5: of like hiking for a little bit. And then also
- 59:11Speaker 5: my dad definitely disagrees with this, But drink water. I
- 59:17Speaker 5: mean I don't even see him drinking water anymore, and
- 59:21Speaker 5: yet he's almost against it.
- 59:24Speaker 7: Well, you've been to where he grew up, right, you've
- 59:27Speaker 7: been there, right all water, Yeah, it's all water, and
- 59:30Speaker 7: it's flat, and so it's not anywhere near the same
- 59:34Speaker 7: thing as to where you're growing up. And why you
- 59:36Speaker 7: had required, you know, to be packing around water and
- 59:38Speaker 7: drinking water because he could he literally just like he
- 59:42Speaker 7: just diverted and then he would just scoop his hand
- 59:44Speaker 7: up into the lake and drink.
- 59:46Speaker 5: I know, but like if I go to school and
- 59:48Speaker 5: I'm like, I'm gonna get a water bottle. He's like, Hey,
- 59:50Speaker 5: you don't need water bottle. You're fine. Back in my
- 59:54Speaker 5: day in the fifties, we didn't have water bottles.
- 59:57Speaker 9: My kid's got like ten water bottles. Oh, it's insane.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: No whoever had the idea that it improves cognitive function
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: to be hydrated.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: It's very very Yes.
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: Being hydrated actually helps you live, So it helps if
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: you're taking your kids out, make sure you.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: Bring lots of water, lots of food, and just like
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: take like not breaks, like sitting down breaks, but like
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: breaks to just do get your mind off of, like hiking,
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: and then get back to it. And I almost think
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: that your kids will do a lot better if they've
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: had like a little mind refresh.
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: One time, I have packed a school bag full of
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: I don't know what kind of books and puzzles and
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: games and coloring pencils, and we went down into a
- 1:00:42Speaker 7: radene under a shade tree where you couldn't see more
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: than ten yards in any direction, and we spent an
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: hour there just coloring, and then we climbed out of
- 1:00:52Speaker 7: there and lo and behold, there was some pronghorn up
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: on the flat that we were about to hunt. So
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: the timing was perfect.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: Can I add something to mind, please, because I feel
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: like the pushing it's really good, because like, you don't
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: love hiking when you're six ' five, like nine years old.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: It's not the best thing in the world. Yeah, but
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: it makes you, I like, a better hunter. I mean
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: obviously it makes you like it pushes you for like
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: everything in life. But then also it makes sometimes it's
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: not fun, so taking the correct breaks, like not too many,
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: because then it's like obviously you're caving in is like
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: a not like just letting your child do whatever they want,
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: but then not pushing so hard. Warre It's like, I
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: never want to come out here and do this ever
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: ever again.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: What do you guys think about this? Idea?
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: Wait? Wait, I got one thing do so somebody very
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: wise told me this. She is a very athletic woman.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: She is our family friend, and I was running the
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: rut with her and she we were like, me and
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: my friend were like, this is not fun. We're like
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: so tired, and she's like, it's secondary fun. So when
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: you are out hiking, it may not be fun in
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: the moment, but later you're like that was really fun.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: I did really cool stuff.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I got you.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: And you'll like the fact that you just pushed yourself
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: really hard and you just did a bunch of it,
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: like you went all that way and you know, you're
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: not thinking about it because you're like, oh my gosh,
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: my leg hurt. My leg's hurt. But then when you
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: get back to camp, you're like, oh, yeah, I walked
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: like four miles or something.
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: And you're like maybe, but like you got pushed, you
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: pushed yourself, and you're like, it's like secondary fun even
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: though you hated.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: It in the moment.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Let me hit you guys with an idea. What if
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: a parent was thinking to themselves, well, I'm gonna go
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: for broke. I'm gonna I'm gonna either have a super
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: a kid that's obsessed with hunting and fishing, or I'm
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: gonna burn them out and they never want to go again.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: And you're like, I don't care about the middle ground,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: So I'm gonna push as hard as I can push.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I might get a die hard hunter and angler, or
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I might get someone who never wants to go again.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: I know I won't land in the middle. Is that
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: a good approach? Or a bad approach and just push
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: it hard.
- 1:03:04Speaker 8: Bad bad, bad, that's bad.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: I'm listening to them. I want to know, like the
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: what's the favorite part about hunting in general? You guys
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: can look it back at our recent trip and say, oh,
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: this was a real highlight and this is why I
- 1:03:21Speaker 7: like doing this trip and going again, or just generally
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: why you guys like to go out hunting.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: Well, I feel like when I'm hunting, it's I mean,
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: I've always like been I guess, like push to go
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: do things, but like not in a bad way. Like
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: my dad gives me the option, like if I say
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: I don't want to go, he's not gonna meet Sometimes
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: he's not going to force me to go. But I
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: feel like what I really like about hunting is that
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: even if it's like a little sad that like killing things,
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: but like in the end, you're like feeding your family
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: and it's just like really rewarding.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: Yes, I agree with that a lot.
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like it's rewarding to like your like I guess,
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: emotional state, like your ego that like I went out
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: and I killed the animal, and I'm like feeding the people,
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: like I guess my family and and then I like
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: hiked all this way, and I like carried meat, and
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: I like did all the steps and now I'm happy
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: that I did it all. And it's like just nice
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: to think about.
- 1:04:30Speaker 8: I guess what I think about is uh, that you're
- 1:04:37Speaker 8: spending time with like your parent that way with you
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: Like I went with my dad and I liked spending
- 1:04:46Speaker 8: time with him and killing an animal with him, and
- 1:04:49Speaker 8: like being able to feed my family also while spending
- 1:04:54Speaker 8: time and having like and creating memories.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: It's great.
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: Also just like being in the outdoors with like when
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: you go back to camp, there's you're not gonna go
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: on your phone and you're not going to do this,
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: like you're just going to be in the moment more
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: of and thinking about what you're doing then and not
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: like what's gonna happen or what you did, and you
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: just kind of get to be in the moment of I'm.
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: In the outdoors right now.
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: I get to spend time with my family, I get
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: to put food on the table. I get to push
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: myself to be like a better person and like a
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: stronger hunter and a better hunter, and just there's so
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: many like positives. I feel like the hunting, especially after
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: you've done the hunt itself.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Oh great, thank you, Corey.
- 1:05:31Speaker 9: You got more questions, man, well, I had maybe some
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: more technical gear questions.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Oh it's great.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: That's a great subject.
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: Obviously, you can't kill a deer with mind bullets, so
- 1:05:42Speaker 9: I'm curious what caliber you guys are all.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: Using, uh, six five cream more same okay.
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: And maybe those sig crosses that have like the nice
- 1:05:52Speaker 9: foldable stock. Yeah, easier to carry around.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: You're shooting a six five creed More, aren't you.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: I think so.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a tree more something.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: Oh wait, I have one more piece of advice too.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: Tell your kids not to be afraid to shoot a
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: gun because of the recoil. Because most of the time
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: when you're hunting as a little kid, you're not gonna
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: get a big, heavy duty gun. It's gonna blow your
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: shoulder off.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Like, well, kids also shoot suppressed rifles.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I was really scared, like for my turkeys, not
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: necessarily for my deer this year. I was last year. Like,
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: it's always the kick that I just get scared about.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: I'm just scared that's gonna like hurt my shoulder. But
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: I think you should just tell your kids that, Like
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: would you rather be scared to pull a trigger because
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: you're word your shoulder is gonna get a little bruise
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: on it, or like shoot an animal, you know, like
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: just tell them to that it's like okay and that
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: doesn't actually hurt. And then maybe like maybe like yeah,
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: maybe like do it and show them that it doesn't
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: actually hurt, like like pull it once on you and
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: say that like it doesn't hurt, like I'm okay, or don't.
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Bring us The first thing is in like oh here's
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: a gun, go shoot it, but make sure but like
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: watch out, he's got a bunch of recoil, Like, oh,
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: here's a gun.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: Like I hope you have fun.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: That's something in your head.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: That's something my older brother would always do to me.
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: He'd be like, oh, Rosie, do gun's got a lot
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: of kick.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: And I was well, because he was jealous, I know.
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: But I was always I was always scared of the
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: kick anyway. And he'd be like, he'd be like that
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: gun's got a lot of kick.
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: I'd be like, well, I think that could be an
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: example of pushing too hard. Right, there is some minimum
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: amount of caliber gauge that you have to use to
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: kill these animals. And some kids at the age of
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: ten maybe because of their personality or body structure size,
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: like they just are not gonna be able to handle
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: even though a four to ten or a you know
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: really light yeah, you know, six millimeters or whatever. So
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: you're just gonna have to wait and be And.
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: The mental like pulling a trigger and shooting something like
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: a big mental like I'm gonna take this animal's life
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: with like I'm going to do it myself. And the
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: mental like don't push it too hard. Is in like
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: a you have to like do this right now because
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: if they like need a way, if they need to
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: think about that, that's the thing that you have to
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: kind of overcome in your mind.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Corey On to give you a couple of you want
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: a technical gear advice, Let me give you some technical
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: gear advice. Ear plugs, headset, if possible, suppressed.
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: Something I was not providing.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: I'm not talking about hout field cheating. Cram their ear
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: full of ear plugs, cram it. Put head ear muffs
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: over the ear plugs. Put a couple of layers on,
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: not a T shirt, m pad, heavy rifle, heavy bipod.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: If you can afford it and get it and do
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: all that to get a suppressor, put a suppressor on
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: it and just deaden, deaden everything down, because I feel
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: that they conflate the noise and the recoil into a
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: sort of package of badness. And and doing that double
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: ear protection and just sort of deadening the noise. I
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: think that you could have the same exact recoil and
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: remove a bunch of the noise, and in their mind
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: it's just a much more pleasurable experience because I think
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: that they're registering the the loudness and the kick into
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: just a generally unpleasant experience. So by shooting like heavy
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: bipod heavy gun, laying down jackets on, we had very
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: good luck, to the point where I would tell people
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: that every we'd go through this two years in a row.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: When she finally shot a rifle, she would be worked
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: up about it. She'd shoot a rifle and her and
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: she would laugh because she had You would giggle because
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: you had in your head that it was gonna be
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: so miserable, and then you shoot. You're like, oh, that
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: was fun, you know, because we did all those steps right.
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: Ye.
- 1:09:59Speaker 9: Well, my kid just gradu raided from his red Rider
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: BB gun to a twenty two. So we've done some
- 1:10:05Speaker 9: squirrel hunting this year. What should I do next? Like
- 1:10:08Speaker 9: six or five scenes a bit much, but well.
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: Let's not jump away from the squirrel hunting me. That's
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: a I was someone else was talking to me about
- 1:10:16Speaker 7: squirrel hunting recently, and I was saying, Yeah, I think
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: that's the reason my girls are the hunters that they
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: are today and the marksmen that they are today is
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: because of the time that we spent in the squirrel woods,
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: you know, familiarizing themselves with the twenty two shooting a
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: twenty two hunting hard to kill animal. And whoever I
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: was talking to was like, Oh, I thought you guys
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: just did it because it was fun and you like
- 1:10:42Speaker 7: to eat them. I'm like, well it is, but like,
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: I don't know, would you girls agree, Like, you guys
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: got a lot of fair amount of practice on those squirrels,
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: So when it came to switching to a deer, did
- 1:10:54Speaker 7: it seem like it was easier?
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: Oh?
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: Yeah, you've already been there.
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: Yes, the squirrels are hard t find. And I was
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: like very happy when I could get squirrels on my own.
- 1:11:07Speaker 6: That was like a really big achievement for me just
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: to be able to like like go out and like
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: you trusting me to do that on my own and
- 1:11:16Speaker 6: like go out and like set up on a squirrel
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: and shoot it and then have it like fall down
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: from the tree. You hear it hit the ground.
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: Oh I just sound.
- 1:11:29Speaker 8: I just thought of like another tip for like the
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: people going hunting with their kids soon, like who are
- 1:11:36Speaker 8: coming of age to it. Like with the kick. If
- 1:11:41Speaker 8: you think if you're like practicing in like a field
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: and you don't know if they're flinching or not from
- 1:11:49Speaker 8: like the kick it gives act like you're putting it around,
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: but don't so then they dry fire and just watch
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: them because then you'll know if they're actually flinching or not.
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: Not good to close your eyes before you shoot the
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: mab also that too, but remind them that. So every
- 1:12:10Speaker 8: time I've shot my deer the adrenaline rush, I never
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: remember having a kick on my gun. Oh yeah, shoot
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: a deer, So like remind them that they're most likely
- 1:12:19Speaker 8: not going to feel the kick when they're actually shooting it.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: You don't even think about that.
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: I know I've said like a lot about this certain thing,
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: but I have one more tip.
- 1:12:30Speaker 8: Water.
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I would like to talk about water light later
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: and you're you not liking water. But anyway, what I
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: was about to say was that another tip for well,
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: in my case, my mom, if you if this is
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: just in my case, like if you're a dad and
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: you take your kid out hunting, make sure they're wearing
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: ear protection, because in my case, my mom got very
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: very upset that I was not wearing ear protection and
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: had a pretty much like a whole speech about people
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: losing their hearing and how my dad's ears are so
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: bad to this day because he doesn't use hearing protection
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: and when I got my dear, my ears really really
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: started to ring.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: It's not true because it was it was a suppressed rifle.
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: I could I could not hear us. Truthfully, from the
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: bottom of my heart, my ears actually hurt like they hurt.
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: So make sure you bring ear protection and always have
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: it ready.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: Well, in all fairness, you know the suppressor she was
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: using as uh, one of those suppressors meant for ars.
- 1:13:43Speaker 8: It doesn't.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: It doesn't get too much blowback. It's like a suppressor light.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: Yeah, so it like amplifies, not even more.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: No, it's just kind of doesn't. It's not like a
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: full like suppressed. It's like that's what it like, itsy bits.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: He suppressed. Yeah, I didn't really appreciate that you ran
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: home and told you mill about that. To be honest
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: with you, I get in all kind of trouble all
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: the time. I don't need you adding to.
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: It, buddy, Well it was part of my story. How
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: afterward my ears really hurt.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Anything else, Corey. They can help you with this panel
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: of experts.
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: Well, food is extremely important, So favorite snack.
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: Important. Water is very important.
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: Something sweet.
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: Putting, getting like bars that are sweet but also have
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: good like nutrition nutritions, but you can put it together,
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: like snickers are good because they've got like the nuts.
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: And my dad like actually want to eat because like
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: there's some of the like bars that he brings and
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: like I will not eat ever eat that in my
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: entire life.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: I got some junk bars.
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: Yeah, my dad uses the best bars for hunting there.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: It's a nature Valley wafer.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: It's good and they have in them because they've got
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: like peanut butter. They taste so good. That's a kid
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: friendly I usually need those for like lunch and breakfast
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: when I'm right.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: That's a kid friendly bar. High protein wafer bar maple
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: hot tip for on food.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: Well, like if normally a lot of like most of
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: the hunting chips, I like the day hunting chips I
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: go on. It's like the sandwiches and stuff. Make sure
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: that you like before just making them a sandwich, Like,
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: make sure you know that they like the sandwich, and
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: you could like send it to school with them, because
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: like I've made a sandwich for myself and I did
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: I put like a Broadworst in it or something, and
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: I did not like that. It was like the juice
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: of the broadwaysh got all over the bun and it
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: did not work.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: So like, so just be clear you're saying, don't just
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: make them a sandwich, work with them to find a
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: sandwich they like, and then task that they actually like
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: that sandwich. Yeah yeah, then pack that workshopped approved sandwich.
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: Sandwich you don't.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Well understood. Don't be packing some nasty sandwich no one
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: wants to eat.
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: Not to bring like juicy meat in the sandwich because
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: then it gets all soggy and that's griss.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Totally understood. Man, that's that's great. You're getting that, Corey.
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: I'm writing it all down.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Okay, favorite snack.
- 1:16:32Speaker 8: So this happens a lot because I hear it at
- 1:16:35Speaker 8: Like when I was in elementary school, I heard like
- 1:16:40Speaker 8: little kids complaining about their throats turning after running or
- 1:16:43Speaker 8: stuff like that because like they didn't drink water in
- 1:16:48Speaker 8: their math and their mouth was dry. Bring jolly ranchers
- 1:16:52Speaker 8: because your kids can catch colds, and a lot of
- 1:16:57Speaker 8: kids like me, I don't like certain cough drops for
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: some reason. They're like too strong, and jolly ranchers will
- 1:17:03Speaker 8: help so much. You like suck on it and all
- 1:17:12Speaker 8: like the saliva in your mouth, you like help it.
- 1:17:15Speaker 8: It does like the same thing as jolly rancher, just
- 1:17:16Speaker 8: doesn't have like all the men.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Like green apple, jolly.
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: Blue, raspberry, cherry and watermelon.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. Tip roads best best snack the dried salmon.
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: That is very okay, Yes, probably that for one of them,
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: because dried salmon jerky. I was very very tired and
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: my head hurt. I did not feel good, and I
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: was just munching on that salmon jerky and it practically
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: made me like walk It felt like I was like
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: in a dream, like I was just like walking along
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: because I was just munching on my salmon jerky.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: The effects.
- 1:18:00Speaker 7: Headache had anything.
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: To do with I probably did have something to do with.
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: But I had my own pack this year that my
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: dad got me and.
- 1:18:09Speaker 8: And I could put yeah, exactly exactly ever wanted.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: So I fed you the line about the same and jerky.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: But what if you had to pack your own snacks.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: What's your favorite PROA?
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: Well, I really do like protein bars, but every time
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: I open one of my dad's, like make sure you
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: eat all that, because he thinks that, like I'm gonna
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: he thinks that I'm going to open it and then
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: it's gonna be like really disgusting. But protein bars, I
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: feel like the good protein bars, like the wafer Nature
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: Valley wafer. Yeah, those those really good. And rees Yes,
- 1:18:45Speaker 5: make sure you.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: Bring reeses coffee, sugar, and calories.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: Along with like the jerky thing. Like I like being
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: able to like have like a big piece of jerky
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: and just like chewing on it while I walk because
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: I can just like walk and kind of think that
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: I'm like restoring energy because I'm eating, but then it's
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: like like chewy, so I'm like doing something and not
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: thinking about just like my legs hurt and wow, this
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: is really annoying and people yeah.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, let me tell you you guys, You guys
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: uh brought me a lot of happiness this year. Made
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: me super proud to hang out with you guys. It
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: was fun to camp with you guys. It was fun
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: to watch how hard everybody worked. You guys got up
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: way before it got light out, you were coming back
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: way after it got dark. Hiked good, everybody shot good.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: You guys are fun to have in camp. You help out,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: you got a long.
- 1:19:42Speaker 7: Good a lot of dish cleaning. Everybody helped you guys
- 1:19:46Speaker 7: go down.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: And washed and clean dishes.
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: Except for the boys.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't include him in this compliment. I'm talking
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: to the people in.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: The room, but they would you need to write when
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: we were like in the river.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: Listen, man, I'm just talking to the ladies right now. Okay,
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: I'm none of the boys, lady, None of the boys
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: are here. Okay, I'm talking to the ladies from my
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: hunting partner. Ladies, you guys did a fantastic job. Made
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: me very proud. What happened.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: Nothing got bye buck nuts.
- 1:20:20Speaker 8: Yes we need.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: Can we please talk about the hot butter you mentioned?
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: But I want to keep comment you for one more second.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: I'm serious. You guys made me very very happy to
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: be to go hunt with you guys. It was all
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: It's an honor. And when I'm an old man dying
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: and someone asked me listen and someone says, like, what
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: was all of all the hunting you did, what was
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: the best funnest time? I will I already know what
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: I'll say. There's no way, there's no way it's going
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: to get any better. Is hunting youth, dear season. And
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: what makes it so special is you guys coming along.
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: Kay, thank you.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: I appreciate you.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: So you can talk about the hot buttered buck nuts. Now.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: Never gonna wrap it up. You guys gotta go back
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: to school.
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: Well before buttons, I had something to add to I had,
- 1:21:02Speaker 7: But you had that moment when you were taking a nap,
- 1:21:04Speaker 7: your kids nap twice as long on your chest there.
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: But I think it was the last night we were
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: in camp. You'd already been in your tent for an hour.
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: It seemed like Steve was in bed at eight thirty
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: and the rest of the adults at like nine nine
- 1:21:19Speaker 7: thirty were like, all right, we've had enough. You know,
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: we're going to bed. All the kids are up and
- 1:21:25Speaker 7: I can from my tent. I can hear them. There's
- 1:21:28Speaker 7: no lights on. They're in this cottonwood grove and there's
- 1:21:33Speaker 7: no lights on, and all the adults are in their
- 1:21:36Speaker 7: tents like laying there, and I can just hear. I
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: can't tell what they're talking about, but it's just chatter.
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: And I'm just thinking, man, how great our kids are
- 1:21:44Speaker 7: just hanging out in the dark, you know, in the
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: middle of Montana, somewhere they're safe, there's no screens, there's
- 1:21:52Speaker 7: no phones. They're enjoying themselves. They're comfortable where they are
- 1:21:56Speaker 7: and their surroundings. What could be better?
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: Yeah, let's just say during that whole experience, me and
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: Mabel went and got ready for bed, but Jimmy and
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: Hayden took the biggest sticks they could. You want there,
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: But no, I don't heard it.
- 1:22:10Speaker 8: He got a huge log, the taller than him and
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: packed it behind.
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: His back and they started sword fighting.
- 1:22:17Speaker 8: They started sword fighting and then almost slapped Jimmy in
- 1:22:20Speaker 8: the head.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: That's why those guys are invited. Those guys aren't here.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: And if we didn't let those knuckleheads come down.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: Here and we when we were what you heard was
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: probably well me and Mabel. Like I said, we eventually left,
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: but we were all playing a game that Jimmy made
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: called Scream that got a little boring. It's like where
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: Jimmy and Hayden, which is them every time. It's supposed
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: to be like different people, but it's not. Jimmy made
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: it up. They go into the woods and the rest
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: of the people try to go find them, and if
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: you scream, you have to join the people who are
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: trying to scare you. It's very fun. It can get
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: boring at points when you're not in the right surroundings
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: to do it.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: Got let's touch on the hot butt buck nuts, Mabel
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: and go ahead, because your one's that brought them back
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: to camp. Yeah.
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: So like when we were cutting open the deer, you know,
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: like butchering, we like obviously we we had him upside down,
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: and the bucknuts were like right there because you know,
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: you like cut them off and stuff. So like the
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: buck nuts had been like thrown in the same direction,
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: and I like walked by and I was like, hey, Papa,
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: well like they they had been I think one of
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: like Aina's had been thrown like the bushes. And then
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: we were cutting open mine like we were starting, you
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: know where you started butchering, and I was like, I
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: was like, oh, like, can we like eat buck nuts?
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: I started it with something like that, or like can
- 1:23:56Speaker 6: buck nuts be like like taken and eating and stuff?
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: And my dad he started he was like he was like,
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: oh yeah, and then we started like talking about bucknuts obviously,
- 1:24:09Speaker 6: and yeah, we just like started it. And then I
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: had never heard of from like Hattie like the sign
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: of sex thing, but I mean, I guess we brought
- 1:24:16Speaker 6: them back and yeah, but like we just like I
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: had just said like like, oh, can we like eat those?
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: And then my dad was like, oh yeah, So then
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: we were like talking about them. So I just like
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: put them in a bag and then I put them
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: in a backpack and then we like brought them back
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: and we cut them up and we had him.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: So yeah, and then we made a little jingle to it,
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: which is also on Instagram that you can check out.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: But uh, then after that we had already eaten ours.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: Me and Hottie both spit ours out because we weren't
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: enjoying them very much. And how he was like, you know,
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: I'll make a funny little video on my phone. Rosie
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: grabbed another bucknut we're eating more so.
- 1:24:59Speaker 8: That happened.
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: We ate them. They were interesting.
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: I had a couple of comments saying that if we
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: peel them even farther, they'll be even They'll be even
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: better somehow, and you won't get that sort of tightness
- 1:25:12Speaker 7: that you're worried about. It sort of generates the exit.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Oh taking the next layer of skin off. Yeah, I'm
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: not familiar. I'll check that out.
- 1:25:18Speaker 7: Either, but I think next time I do them, I
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: am going to pre slice and do like a breading. Yeah,
- 1:25:25Speaker 7: pan fry or better.
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: Yeah, you should bring your buck nuts bag. Now.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: The oldest thing every year called the Testicle Festival, and
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: it'd be like, wow, I want to go to that.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: They just fry up all these calf all these steer
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: nuts and then be a big old deal. All right, gal,
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: thanks for coming down to the show. Everybody, No one's
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: aging out right. You got another year?
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, two more years?
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: I thought it. You're sixteen fifteen last year, okay, fifteen,
- 1:25:52Speaker 7: two more years.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: We're not losing anyone. We're not losing any hunters. Everybody's
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: still in.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: Even if I'm not hunting.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: We had I don't know if you guys remember we
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: had to retire one of our guys, Hattie's brother Harrison
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: aged out.
- 1:26:06Speaker 8: If we have another four day, he'll he could come
- 1:26:08Speaker 8: during general.
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: Had his brother Harrison aged out. But we got a
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: lot of We got a lot coming up. I got
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: one kid not even old enough, and I said, one day,
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: if I was saying one day, if you could do,
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: if there was a youth elk season, I'd still be
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: having kids. But someday when my nine year old hits
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: to be fifteen, I'm gonna be looking for I'm gonna adopt.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Just so you'm gonna adopt a nine year old.
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: You could just take out friends kids too. Might be easy.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: That might be less expensive too. All right, girl, thanks
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: so much for coming down. You guys. You going back
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: to school?
