Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland the after party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party of the bridge to get you from one
- 0:36Speaker 1: full episode or disgrace led to the other the backyard
- 0:39Speaker 1: to dig into the dirt. On this episode, we are
- 0:41Speaker 1: talking about the five year anniversary of Disgraceland, the launch
- 0:46Speaker 1: of season eleven, fifty cent letter Kenny ac DC and more,
- 0:51Speaker 1: your calls, your texts, your dms, me reading the phone book,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and a whole lot of Rosie. All right, discs, let's
- 0:57Speaker 1: get into it. Yes, we are here, we are together,
- 1:16Speaker 1: we are one. We are celebrating lots to celebrate this week.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We just hit our five year anniversary, everybody, five year
- 1:22Speaker 1: anniversary of Disgraceland, and launched season eleven of Disgraceland, all
- 1:27Speaker 1: in the same week. First on the five year anniversary.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I cannot believe it's been five years. I mean, come on,
- 1:34Speaker 1: this is nuts. Time flies when you are having fun
- 1:38Speaker 1: for real, sincerely literally, time has flown by since we
- 1:43Speaker 1: launched back in twenty eighteen. Real quick Top five episodes
- 1:47Speaker 1: of Disgraceland in reverse order without me thinking about it
- 1:49Speaker 1: at all. Number five, Part two of the Miles Davis episode.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Don't know why, but I love this episode. It's a
- 1:54Speaker 1: great team effort. I think. I think that's why I'm
- 1:56Speaker 1: always thinking of this one. I feel like the storytelling
- 1:58Speaker 1: we're trying to do and the writing that I I'm
- 2:00Speaker 1: trying to do, it finally got close to that part
- 2:02Speaker 1: of the creative ether that I'm always trying to approach.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And I also I know that Matt Boden and Ryan
- 2:08Speaker 1: Spraker on our team who handled the audio design and
- 2:10Speaker 1: the original music, they nailed this one. Check out the
- 2:13Speaker 1: Miles Davis episode. Number four, the gg Allen episode, because
- 2:18Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just so damn rock and roll,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and I think it's fucking awesome to have a gg
- 2:22Speaker 1: Allen episode of a podcast. And I remember writing this
- 2:24Speaker 1: episode and making it with Sean Kahlein back in the
- 2:27Speaker 1: day and a bit of a fever dream that in
- 2:29Speaker 1: a way mirrors some of the madness that Gigi had
- 2:31Speaker 1: going on before we bought it with one hundred percent
- 2:34Speaker 1: less of the drugs. However, number three the jay Z episode,
- 2:39Speaker 1: because I feel like of all the episodes I've released
- 2:43Speaker 1: and written, the ratio on this one of me thinking
- 2:45Speaker 1: I hit it out of the park and not getting
- 2:47Speaker 1: the reaction I wanted is the widest. I loved this episode.
- 2:51Speaker 1: When I made it, I was so fucking pump man.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I remember listening to the mix and just being like,
- 2:56Speaker 1: oh shit, we're hitting this new level. And then I
- 2:59Speaker 1: released it and it was like fucking crickets. I remember calling,
- 3:02Speaker 1: well not crickets, but in my world crickets, And I
- 3:04Speaker 1: remember Colin Brady, my business partner at Double Elvis, and
- 3:07Speaker 1: being like, ah, I just bummed. I think people weren't
- 3:10Speaker 1: into this like I thought they were gonna be. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: of course he reminded me that we were within the
- 3:16Speaker 1: first week or two of an international pandemic and that
- 3:18Speaker 1: I should chill the fuck out and just consider that
- 3:22Speaker 1: maybe some other people had other shit going on in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the world besides my silly little podcast, which he was
- 3:27Speaker 1: of course one correct about. But anyways, the jay Z
- 3:30Speaker 1: episode lives on. I always think of that one when
- 3:32Speaker 1: I think of ones that I really like number two,
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Frank Sinatra episode. Frank kind of the similar, similar
- 3:39Speaker 1: character to jay Z in a lot of ways, and
- 3:41Speaker 1: that's definitely the nut of my jay Z episode. But
- 3:45Speaker 1: the Frank episode one of my favorite music cue drops
- 3:47Speaker 1: from the entire series, Uh, the United States Government Gangster
- 3:51Speaker 1: as Fuck. I love that drop so much that I
- 3:54Speaker 1: took the song we used in that drop and I
- 3:56Speaker 1: used it for the theme for this after party bonus episode.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That that's the theme song we play at the top.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Number one. Okay, I'm doing a cop out here at
- 4:03Speaker 1: number one. Three way tie Jerry Lee Lewis because og
- 4:06Speaker 1: props to the episode that started it all and gave
- 4:08Speaker 1: the show its name. Tied with next week's coming episode
- 4:12Speaker 1: of ac DC in The Night Stalker Richard Ramirez, because
- 4:16Speaker 1: that episode, man, it combines just the shit. I love
- 4:20Speaker 1: the music and the true crime. It's the combination. It's
- 4:23Speaker 1: the peanut butter and the chocolate in the way that
- 4:25Speaker 1: makes me creatively high in the best possible way. I
- 4:28Speaker 1: remember being a little kid and playing for my little
- 4:30Speaker 1: sister the song that the media kind of like hung
- 4:34Speaker 1: on ac DC their song night Prowler, and said, you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: they kind of try to make the case that you'll
- 4:39Speaker 1: hear in the episode they trying to make the case
- 4:41Speaker 1: that they inspired Richard Ramirez with that song and it
- 4:46Speaker 1: was nuts. But I remember not knowing any of that
- 4:49Speaker 1: and being a little kid and playing that song for
- 4:52Speaker 1: my little sister at the time, Steph, who I don't
- 4:55Speaker 1: know if she's ever going to listen to this, but
- 4:57Speaker 1: I remember scaring the shit out of her such a
- 5:01Speaker 1: bad big brother, just because the song is kind of
- 5:04Speaker 1: about this murderer and there's a whole story to it,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and I remember like making up this story that it
- 5:10Speaker 1: was real and telling her and freaking her out. And
- 5:12Speaker 1: I don't know, man, she was probably like ten years
- 5:14Speaker 1: old at the time. I apologize if I left Scars anyhow.
- 5:18Speaker 1: The ACDC Richard Ramirez episode that's come and that's one
- 5:21Speaker 1: that really embodies what this podcast is about. But also
- 5:26Speaker 1: the fifty cent episode that we just released the number one,
- 5:28Speaker 1: the first episode of the recently relaunched season eleven, because man,
- 5:32Speaker 1: oh man, did that dude make me work for it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Trying to distill fifty cents crimes and transgressions into one
- 5:39Speaker 1: episode was no small task. Even after researching it and
- 5:43Speaker 1: writing it. And reviewing multiple mixes. I still can't tell
- 5:45Speaker 1: you how many times the dude has been arrested. It
- 5:48Speaker 1: was that many times, too many times. And that was
- 5:50Speaker 1: all before he was shot, and not to mention the
- 5:52Speaker 1: murder of his mom. And there was so much to cover.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But for me, the highlight was this high speed motorcycle
- 5:59Speaker 1: chase that fifty cent details in his autobiography between him
- 6:02Speaker 1: and the cops when he was suspected of a double
- 6:05Speaker 1: murder as a kid. Crazy to just hear yourself say that,
- 6:10Speaker 1: we recreated that chase in direct homage to the chase
- 6:13Speaker 1: scene for the great film of French Connection. So check
- 6:16Speaker 1: that episode out. It's one of my all time phase
- 6:18Speaker 1: already and it was just released. It's available wherever you
- 6:21Speaker 1: get your podcast. Like I said, season eleven is officially
- 6:25Speaker 1: underway here. That means new full episodes of Disgraceland every Tuesday.
- 6:29Speaker 1: We're doing these bonus episodes every Thursday. That's two episodes
- 6:33Speaker 1: per week every week. This is the new way we're
- 6:35Speaker 1: doing it. We're rolling this way from here on out.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Got a whole bunch of stories, We've got the team
- 6:41Speaker 1: to execute it. Now's our time, So make sure you're
- 6:43Speaker 1: subscribed and listening week to week. Next week, like I said,
- 6:47Speaker 1: is ac DC, then Mac Miller, Leonard skinnerd Otis Redding,
- 6:50Speaker 1: two partner on Willie Nelson, Size Stone MC five Skip James,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and a two parter on lou Reed that I know
- 6:56Speaker 1: is going to piss a lot of people off, and
- 6:58Speaker 1: that I fully If you know lou Reed had ever
- 7:03Speaker 1: heard this episode that were these episodes were about to release,
- 7:06Speaker 1: he would not be happy. But he was never fucking happy.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So that probably means we were on the right track here,
- 7:11Speaker 1: at least I like to think that way. And then
- 7:14Speaker 1: after that we're heading straight into season twelve and the
- 7:17Speaker 1: music storytelling doesn't stop in the RSS feed anymore. Guys,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you know this. We've got a new YouTube channel with
- 7:23Speaker 1: stories that aren't part of the podcast. Last week we
- 7:26Speaker 1: dropped our look at the Who's Tragic concert at Riverfront
- 7:29Speaker 1: Coliseum in Cincinnati back in nineteen seventy nine. This week,
- 7:33Speaker 1: we're also doing another story on a legendary concert, on
- 7:37Speaker 1: James Brown's performance at the Boston Garden back on nineteen
- 7:41Speaker 1: sixty eight. This is the day after Martin Luther King
- 7:44Speaker 1: Junior was assassinated. It was a big deal there were
- 7:48Speaker 1: a lot of ramifications of the show. It went a
- 7:51Speaker 1: long way and keeping the peace in Boston in my city,
- 7:53Speaker 1: so this one meant a lot to me. I'm very
- 7:55Speaker 1: happy with the storytelling that the team did and I
- 7:59Speaker 1: hope you check that out. And like I said, that
- 8:01Speaker 1: is only available on YouTube, it's not going to be
- 8:04Speaker 1: released as a podcast. To get to, go over to
- 8:06Speaker 1: YouTube dot com slash at Disgraceland Pod and subscribe. There
- 8:11Speaker 1: we do these deep dives like this James Brown one
- 8:13Speaker 1: and the who one. We do these every week. We
- 8:16Speaker 1: release them on Sundays, but we do these daily videos
- 8:19Speaker 1: as well. Their shorts, their sixty second stories, misadventures, music misadventures.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I call them got a Ton, Stevie Wonder, Dean Martin,
- 8:26Speaker 1: the Beast Boys, way more. Like I said, head over
- 8:29Speaker 1: to YouTube dot com slash at Disgraceland pod and subscribe.
- 8:34Speaker 1: All right, if you are here, then you know it
- 8:36Speaker 1: is the five year anniversary of Disgraceland and you guys
- 8:39Speaker 1: are writing to me constantly asking about archived episodes that
- 8:42Speaker 1: were previously only available exclusively, and we are re releasing
- 8:46Speaker 1: these every couple of weeks so that you guys have
- 8:48Speaker 1: time to listen to binge to catch up. You're not overwhelmed.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And this past week we just released all of season
- 8:55Speaker 1: one in conjunction with the five year anniversary. So if
- 8:57Speaker 1: you're on that nostalgia tip, long for Jerry Lee, Lewis Savicius,
- 9:01Speaker 1: Sam Cook, the Norwegian Black Metal Dudes, Michael Alec and more.
- 9:04Speaker 1: The gang is all here and waiting for you in
- 9:07Speaker 1: the Disgrace Land feed wherever podcasts are available all of
- 9:11Speaker 1: season one. Go check that out. All right, as promised,
- 9:14Speaker 1: your calls, your texts, and your voicemails coming out right
- 9:18Speaker 1: after the break. All right, welcome back. You guys know
- 9:41Speaker 1: that this show, this bonus episode, this is all about
- 9:43Speaker 1: the back and forth, the conversation we're having together that
- 9:46Speaker 1: given the takeover the music storytelling that we do here
- 9:48Speaker 1: at Disgrace Sam, all the subjects we cover, the ones
- 9:51Speaker 1: we've yet to cover but that you want to hear,
- 9:53Speaker 1: all the awesome music films, television that inspires us to
- 9:57Speaker 1: create and keeps us all entertained. Lot ways to get
- 10:00Speaker 1: in touch at Disgrace lam pod on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and TikTok, or you can call me and leave me
- 10:06Speaker 1: a voicemail and I'll respond here in these episodes where
- 10:09Speaker 1: you can text, and I'll do the same. That's six
- 10:11Speaker 1: one seven nine zero six six six three eight. Call
- 10:15Speaker 1: me six one seven nine zero six six six three
- 10:18Speaker 1: eight like I said, Call me just like Nathan here
- 10:20Speaker 1: from the eight four to.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Three, Hey, Jake, Nathan calling from beautiful Hilton Head Island,
- 10:27Speaker 2: South Carolina. I cleaned swimming pools for a living, and
- 10:31Speaker 2: I got to make sure I got the right pair
- 10:32Speaker 2: of shorts on so that my phone isn't pulling my
- 10:37Speaker 2: shorts off while I listen to you. Jim, not good enough.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I've already doubled dose on some episodes because they were
- 10:46Speaker 2: so damn good. I've got two suggestions for you, the
- 10:50Speaker 2: first one being Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I don't
- 10:53Speaker 2: know if you've done one on them, but those guys
- 10:57Speaker 2: are blamed for getting a lot of people hooked on
- 11:01Speaker 2: drugs as a band.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Quite a story.
- 11:04Speaker 2: The other one I got for you, which I would
- 11:06Speaker 2: love for you to do, would be John Belushi. I
- 11:11Speaker 2: know he's more known as a comedian, but as you know,
- 11:14Speaker 2: he was a very gifted musician, and I see it
- 11:17Speaker 2: as the reverse of the Tupac story. Musician to actor
- 11:20Speaker 2: where it's you know, actor, comedian to them, musician, all
- 11:25Speaker 2: of the Blues brothers, the John Belushi story, as you know,
- 11:30Speaker 2: tied to so many other actors and musicians, and I
- 11:35Speaker 2: would say he's like a three part episode. So love
- 11:39Speaker 2: you brother. You're brilliant. I think that that your cadence,
- 11:44Speaker 2: your delivery. You're definitely the Mark Twain of podcasts. And
- 11:51Speaker 2: you paint pictures as good as Norman Rockwell. I completely
- 11:55Speaker 2: love you brother.
- 11:58Speaker 1: All right, Nathan, don't lose your shorts, dude. Hike those
- 12:02Speaker 1: puppies up. Man. I suggest a nineties fanny pack, perhaps
- 12:06Speaker 1: for your phone while listening, so you don't drop it
- 12:08Speaker 1: in the pool while you're listening to disgrace, and and
- 12:11Speaker 1: that your shorts don't fall and you end up in
- 12:13Speaker 1: some weird situation all of a sudden, you got a
- 12:15Speaker 1: court date you're gonna need a ride to because you've
- 12:17Speaker 1: lost your license, perhaps because I don't know your fucking
- 12:19Speaker 1: pants are down at work. Dude, you don't sound like
- 12:21Speaker 1: the guy who's gonna have a license and be able
- 12:23Speaker 1: to get to your court date. That's all I'm saying.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So you know, don't drop the phone in the pool.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And don't let your shorts fall either. Anyways, in all seriousness,
- 12:32Speaker 1: thank you for the call and to answer your question,
- 12:35Speaker 1: we did release the Tom Petty episode back in season
- 12:38Speaker 1: nine when we were exclusive, but that has yet to
- 12:41Speaker 1: be re released, but it will be soon. As for
- 12:44Speaker 1: John Belushi, we did. We also did an episode on
- 12:46Speaker 1: John Belushi for this other podcast that I host called
- 12:49Speaker 1: bad Lands. You can search bad Lands wherever podcasts are
- 12:52Speaker 1: available you'll find the John Belushi episode. Thank you for listening, Nathan,
- 12:56Speaker 1: and for being a good sport. And let me give
- 12:57Speaker 1: you some shit.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, this is is Matt from Los Angeles calling you.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Finally got around a listening to the Halloween episode on Sabbath,
- 13:07Speaker 3: and I thought it was interesting how you worked the
- 13:10Speaker 3: case of the murder on the Devil's Teeth into that
- 13:12Speaker 3: story that I grew up reading about that In New Jersey,
- 13:18Speaker 3: we had a publication called Weird New Jersey that covered
- 13:21Speaker 3: it based on citizens writing in their memories of it
- 13:27Speaker 3: when it happened, which it gained enough interest where there's
- 13:30Speaker 3: a podcast called The Devil's Teeth as well as a
- 13:33Speaker 3: book with the same name that kind of covers that
- 13:35Speaker 3: De Palma that unsolved a Paulma murder. Turns out it
- 13:39Speaker 3: was probably the son of a local police chief and
- 13:41Speaker 3: it was covered up. Nothing new there, sadly, But anyway,
- 13:46Speaker 3: I thought that was kind of a cool little surprise
- 13:48Speaker 3: to hear that on your show, which I enjoy. So
- 13:52Speaker 3: if you're you probably know about the Diapauma case. Maybe
- 13:54Speaker 3: you don't, but uh yeah, look into the Devil's Teeth
- 13:57Speaker 3: in Weird New Jersey or for anyone else who listened
- 14:00Speaker 3: and was curious.
- 14:01Speaker 1: To be all right, Matt from the Weird New Jersey
- 14:06Speaker 1: checking in, Matt is talking about the quote unquote Devil's
- 14:10Speaker 1: Teeth murder that happened in New Jersey back in the
- 14:12Speaker 1: nineteen seventies. Just an awesome true crime story, chilling. It
- 14:17Speaker 1: kind of reminded me a lot of I know it's
- 14:19Speaker 1: not true, but it reminded me a lot of true
- 14:21Speaker 1: detective the Devil's Teeth murder that Matt is referencing, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: that's a story that I used to frame our Black
- 14:28Speaker 1: Sabbath episode. You can check that episode out if you
- 14:31Speaker 1: have not already to hear what Matt is referencing. For
- 14:34Speaker 1: true crime nerds, the Devil's Teeth story in the context
- 14:38Speaker 1: of the nineteen seventies Black Sabbath. It's a good one
- 14:42Speaker 1: to sink your teeth and two get at that all right.
- 14:45Speaker 1: From the eight three to one, We Got to Check
- 14:47Speaker 1: In from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Oh Man, one of the best podcasts, probably in the
- 14:54Speaker 4: history of podcasts. I listened to you almost every day
- 14:58Speaker 4: at work. Run a jazz club I'm in in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
- 15:03Speaker 4: and I do other types of music tube and we're
- 15:05Speaker 4: primarily a jazz club. I've spent over thirty years in
- 15:10Speaker 4: the professional music industry in Northern California. I've worked for
- 15:14Speaker 4: Tom Waits for thirteen years, and I have three Grammy
- 15:18Speaker 4: Awards and a gold record in conjunction with working with
- 15:21Speaker 4: mister Tom Waits, who is an incredible artist and a
- 15:25Speaker 4: human being. And with that being said, I'm a music
- 15:29Speaker 4: junkie and I get off on so many insightful things.
- 15:34Speaker 4: All of your artists, finding out about artists I don't
- 15:36Speaker 4: know about, finding out about artists that I already know
- 15:39Speaker 4: about that I didn't know enough about anyway. Love what
- 15:42Speaker 4: you do, keep it coming. I'm addicted.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Piece out Yo, love love love. Tom Waits one of
- 15:53Speaker 1: my favorite artists of all time. What an incredible experience
- 15:58Speaker 1: it must have been to work for him as a
- 15:59Speaker 1: guy runs a jazz club out west. Dude, I'm curious
- 16:02Speaker 1: what you thought of our Chet Baker episode. Chet was,
- 16:05Speaker 1: of course, as you know, as most people know, a
- 16:08Speaker 1: great except Miles Davis. Most people would consider Chet Baker
- 16:11Speaker 1: a great jazz musician. Miles Davis did not. But that's
- 16:14Speaker 1: I digress. Anyways, I believe Chet was originally from Oklahoma.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I think I'm right on that. Anyway, write me, call
- 16:20Speaker 1: me back, let me know six one seven nine zero
- 16:22Speaker 1: six six six three eight, Let me know about Chet
- 16:24Speaker 1: and Oklahoma. What you thought of the Chet Baker episode there?
- 16:28Speaker 1: All right, let's do some text. Jody from the six
- 16:33Speaker 1: one six rights hello to Jake from the six one
- 16:36Speaker 1: six to the six one seven. I'm Jody R and
- 16:39Speaker 1: my kid who loves great music. See what she did
- 16:42Speaker 1: there got me into your pod, smiley face. I would
- 16:44Speaker 1: love to hear more about Crosby, Stills, Nash, and sometimes Young.
- 16:48Speaker 1: The stories about them are wild. For example, Ohio was
- 16:51Speaker 1: written and released days after the Kent State incident? True
- 16:54Speaker 1: or lore? She asked? And if true, how did they
- 16:56Speaker 1: pull it off? I don't know loving the YouTube content
- 16:59Speaker 1: as it's not just filming the pod piece in rock
- 17:02Speaker 1: a ROLLA. Yeah, you know, this is a great idea, Jody,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I never thought of. Of course, I knew about the
- 17:09Speaker 1: song Ohio from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and I
- 17:12Speaker 1: knew it was inspired by Kent State, but I never
- 17:15Speaker 1: I never thought about being able to use that song
- 17:19Speaker 1: is my way into the Kent State shooting. And I
- 17:23Speaker 1: love that idea. So I think I'm gonna suss that out.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna put that on the list, hi,
- 17:27Speaker 1: on the list of things we can we can research
- 17:31Speaker 1: and write about and create an episode with. And when
- 17:34Speaker 1: I get into that, Jody, I will share what I
- 17:37Speaker 1: learned with you, obviously, and you'll hear about it in
- 17:39Speaker 1: the podcast. All right the four to four zero rights, Hey, Jake,
- 17:43Speaker 1: looking forward to new season of Disgrace the I wanted
- 17:46Speaker 1: to ask you if you have thought about doing an
- 17:48Speaker 1: episode on the cow Sills, their father ruined the band
- 17:51Speaker 1: and most of the children's lives in the band, and
- 17:53Speaker 1: also on the four seasons, the Bad Boys of Jersey
- 17:56Speaker 1: who had the mob connections and one of them ended
- 17:58Speaker 1: up highly in debt and they were all arrested for
- 18:00Speaker 1: skipping out on a hotel built in Ohio. Yes, I
- 18:03Speaker 1: saw that Four Seasons movie that Clintistwa did. I fucking
- 18:06Speaker 1: loved that movie. I feel like that movie doesn't get
- 18:10Speaker 1: mentioned enough. I don't know. Maybe it does, actually, now
- 18:12Speaker 1: that I think about it, Sure it does. There was
- 18:13Speaker 1: like a Broadway musical made about it. But you know,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I never thought about doing the Four Seasons. But I
- 18:19Speaker 1: think I'm gonna only to explore the Joe peshy ness
- 18:22Speaker 1: of it all because I know he was affiliated with
- 18:25Speaker 1: those guys, and he was kind of a guy who
- 18:28Speaker 1: wasn't quite a connected guy, but he was in that
- 18:30Speaker 1: orbit and that's always interested me. And maybe the Four
- 18:32Speaker 1: Seasons is my way in to find out more about
- 18:35Speaker 1: that Joe PESHI nature there to that story of the Castiles.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You know, other people have mentioned the Castles to me.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I don't know much about this band. I know people
- 18:44Speaker 1: love them. I think I met one of them once,
- 18:48Speaker 1: Cindy Castile. Does that sound right? I don't know. Way back?
- 18:52Speaker 1: All right, I'll look into it. I'll see what's there.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Like I said, other people have mentioned the Castles before,
- 18:56Speaker 1: so I will check that out, all right, Caitlin from
- 19:01Speaker 1: the eight to six Oh rights, Hi, Jake, I've been
- 19:04Speaker 1: a Disgraceland fan since season three. Subscribed immediately when you
- 19:07Speaker 1: announce your YouTube channel. Can't wait for the new season.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I thank you, Caitlin. Anyways, I'm just curious if you
- 19:12Speaker 1: were thinking of doing a boy band episode. I get
- 19:16Speaker 1: that it's not your scene, but honestly, i'd love to
- 19:18Speaker 1: hear your take on Lou Proman. She actually said something
- 19:22Speaker 1: else and I'm not gonna read. Keep doing what you're doing,
- 19:26Speaker 1: rock a rolla, all right, Kate, Caitlin, you do mention
- 19:29Speaker 1: Lou Proman here, and this is something that I'm totally
- 19:33Speaker 1: interested in. It is on the list. I'm going to
- 19:35Speaker 1: get into this at some point. I'm fascinated by it.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I'm also fascinated by the whole K pop thing. I
- 19:41Speaker 1: don't know a lot about either of these scenes, but
- 19:44Speaker 1: I know that Lou Proman was up to some shady stuff.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think he's in prison actually. But yeah, to answer
- 19:50Speaker 1: your question, yes, yes, I'm going to get into Lou
- 19:53Speaker 1: Proman and the boy band stuff at some point, whether
- 19:55Speaker 1: in one or multiple episodes. All Right, you guys know
- 19:58Speaker 1: the drill. If you want to be featured on show,
- 20:00Speaker 1: or just need to get at me and get something
- 20:02Speaker 1: off your chest. Information on what episodes you dug, which
- 20:04Speaker 1: episodes you want to hear, interesting stories about the folks
- 20:07Speaker 1: we talk about in the episodes are hell, just one
- 20:09Speaker 1: dude just texts me gravestone photos of dead mafia dudes.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Whatever you guys want, you can hit me up with
- 20:14Speaker 1: it at six one seven nine zero six six six
- 20:17Speaker 1: three eight. All right, back in a flash with some recommendations. Alrighty,
- 20:36Speaker 1: then the recommendations part. This is the recommendations part. One
- 20:41Speaker 1: day we're gonna have a nifty little theme song for
- 20:44Speaker 1: this segment, but until then you're gonna have to go
- 20:46Speaker 1: with my dry ass speaking into a microphone and just
- 20:48Speaker 1: calling it the recommendations part. All right, I got lots
- 20:52Speaker 1: of Rex this week, and some thank yous and some
- 20:55Speaker 1: consensus texts on how Babylon sucked and how Tar was great.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But if you remember, I asked for this sort of light,
- 21:02Speaker 1: thirty minute, kind of funny, not too serious TV series
- 21:04Speaker 1: that I could watch at the end of the night
- 21:05Speaker 1: with my wife before we went to bed. Nothing too heavy,
- 21:08Speaker 1: nothing that was going to bum us out or be
- 21:10Speaker 1: too long or too intense or rile me up, get
- 21:12Speaker 1: me excited? On Facebook, Instagram text. I got numerous messages
- 21:18Speaker 1: from you guys with weird statements about how I needed
- 21:22Speaker 1: to give my nuts a tug, or that it was
- 21:23Speaker 1: time to pitter patter, or let's get at her, or
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know what's what's it is that I appreciates about
- 21:29Speaker 1: using these weird coded messages were sometimes just that, just
- 21:33Speaker 1: coded and weird, but oftentimes included a recommendation for the
- 21:37Speaker 1: TV show that they come from Letter Kenny. And I
- 21:40Speaker 1: told you guys a couple of after parties ago that
- 21:42Speaker 1: I would check Letter Kenny out in Holy crap? Am
- 21:45Speaker 1: I glad that I did? I love this fucking show
- 21:49Speaker 1: and I to find out. I thought it was new.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I thought it was one limited series with six episodes.
- 21:55Speaker 1: There's like eleven seasons or something. And there was a YouTube.
- 21:59Speaker 1: It came out of YouTube, So there's other There's all
- 22:01Speaker 1: kinds of this is a phenom, this thing, and I've
- 22:04Speaker 1: never heard of it. There's so much content now, man,
- 22:07Speaker 1: it's so hard to stay on top of shit. This
- 22:11Speaker 1: shows from Canada, and judging from the incoming messages that
- 22:14Speaker 1: I've received, it's a hit here in the States as well.
- 22:17Speaker 1: They're still making this show. Season eleven just dropped of
- 22:19Speaker 1: Letter Kenny in December twenty twenty two, on Christmas. I
- 22:23Speaker 1: feel weird talking about this show like I'm some authority.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I'm not, clearly, I'm a total newbie and the show's
- 22:30Speaker 1: been around since twenty fifteen. But whatever, it's new to me.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And like I said, they're still making and releasing episodes
- 22:36Speaker 1: and producing spinoffs Shoresy. You learn about Shoresy Jared Kiso,
- 22:41Speaker 1: I think that's how you pronounce the creator's name. He's brilliant,
- 22:44Speaker 1: He's in the show. His character Wayne is fucking hysterical.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I want to be friends with Wayne. I want a
- 22:51Speaker 1: Wayne in my life. I've had various Waynes in my life.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I feel like I need a new Wayne. But best
- 22:56Speaker 1: I can describe the show is to say it's Canada's
- 22:58Speaker 1: version of Always Sonny in philadelph But that's like saying
- 23:00Speaker 1: a band is Canada's version of the Beatles. No offense
- 23:03Speaker 1: to Canada, but you know it's tough to go apples
- 23:05Speaker 1: to apples with this Letter Kenny is entirely unique in
- 23:08Speaker 1: one hundred percent hysterical Letter Kenny. It's on Hulu. Check
- 23:12Speaker 1: it out, you know Peter Patter all Right, more from
- 23:15Speaker 1: the What I watched recommendations pile, because I watched a
- 23:18Speaker 1: lot of stuff this last week and weekend. I watched
- 23:21Speaker 1: Brian De Palma's first film. I think it's his first movie.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I could look it up and I'm not going to.
- 23:26Speaker 1: It's the erotic thriller Dressed to Kill with Michael Caine
- 23:30Speaker 1: from nineteen eighty. It's fun to watch. Good, not great,
- 23:35Speaker 1: not as good as Blowout, the Pama's film that came
- 23:38Speaker 1: after this one, which I always thought was to Pama's
- 23:41Speaker 1: first film, but it wasn't. Like I said, Dressed to Kill,
- 23:44Speaker 1: the erotic thriller came before. I'd say John Travolta won
- 23:49Speaker 1: this round with Michael Kaine. But if you're scrolling through
- 23:51Speaker 1: wherever you get your movies and this pops up, it's
- 23:54Speaker 1: worth watching. I also watched the horror film Barbarian with
- 23:58Speaker 1: friend of the Pod Justin and Georgina Campbell, and Wow,
- 24:02Speaker 1: this movie's amazing. It's from last year. It's a horror film.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Like I said, knock me out, scary as hell, twisted,
- 24:08Speaker 1: great story, great acting, have me checking the locks on
- 24:11Speaker 1: my door in the middle of the Night. I love
- 24:13Speaker 1: the actor Georgina Campbell as well, and I'm looking forward
- 24:15Speaker 1: to seeing her and more stuff that's barbarian. Highly recommend it.
- 24:20Speaker 1: If you like horror movies, you've probably already watched this, though,
- 24:23Speaker 1: But if you don't and you kind of just nibble
- 24:25Speaker 1: around the edges of horror, check this one out. It's
- 24:27Speaker 1: new and it's great. All right. What I'm listening to.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I am stoked about this one. I'm listening to this
- 24:34Speaker 1: epic playlist that I just made at the request of
- 24:37Speaker 1: the good old folks at Spotify, who asked me to
- 24:40Speaker 1: put together a playlist based on the Disgraceland series. So
- 24:42Speaker 1: I did just that, and I put my high fidelity
- 24:45Speaker 1: John cusack hat on and try to really go to
- 24:47Speaker 1: town on the sequencing so that it made sense and
- 24:50Speaker 1: flowed in a way that would appeal to all listeners
- 24:52Speaker 1: of Disgraceland, new ones, old ones, young folks, older folks,
- 24:58Speaker 1: people who are into classic rock and earn into hip hop,
- 25:01Speaker 1: and people who are into hip hop and earn into
- 25:02Speaker 1: classic rock and punk and country and soul and earn
- 25:07Speaker 1: b the whole thing. And I sequenced it in a
- 25:09Speaker 1: way that I think actually makes some sort of contextual
- 25:12Speaker 1: sense in my weird brain, and hopefully when you're listening
- 25:17Speaker 1: to it, you can flow through it and know where
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm coming from, and you'll get the reference points to
- 25:22Speaker 1: the actual podcast, to the series. I couldn't get every
- 25:26Speaker 1: artist that we've covered in there. Sadly, gig Allen did
- 25:29Speaker 1: not make the cut, but others didn't as well Led
- 25:32Speaker 1: Zeppelin for some reason. I just I would have fucked
- 25:35Speaker 1: up my whole thing by the time I got the Zeppelin.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Little Richard also omitted. But but but you will hear
- 25:43Speaker 1: the sequencing and it will make sense, and you will
- 25:48Speaker 1: not miss those artists. When we go Oasis to Bowie
- 25:51Speaker 1: to mac Miller to then get on into the sonic
- 25:55Speaker 1: highways of ac DC and ASAP, Rocky and the Beatles
- 25:58Speaker 1: and the Notorious Big and Black Sabbath and many, many,
- 26:02Speaker 1: many more, you're gonna understand why certain artists are here
- 26:06Speaker 1: and others aren't. This playlist is like five hours long.
- 26:09Speaker 1: It'll hopefully give you all the right disgraceland feels. As
- 26:14Speaker 1: of the recording of this episode, the playlist hasn't yet published,
- 26:16Speaker 1: so I'm not sure how you get it, but you
- 26:18Speaker 1: can hit me up on Instagram. Sure, by the time
- 26:20Speaker 1: you hear this, it'll be live and I'll let you know.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I will shout out about it by then. Or I
- 26:24Speaker 1: suppose you can just open Spotify and search Disgraceland playlists
- 26:27Speaker 1: and I'm sure it'll just pop right up. Just look
- 26:29Speaker 1: for my mug. All right, I'm reading another book on racing.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with this sport. I'm reading Driving with the
- 26:35Speaker 1: Devil's Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels, and the Birth of Nascar
- 26:38Speaker 1: by Neil Thompson. It's an awesome book, almost as much
- 26:42Speaker 1: transgression in the history of NASCAR racing as there is
- 26:44Speaker 1: in Rock and roll, and I'm loving learning about the
- 26:46Speaker 1: sport and stike to say that I am headed to
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Daytona five hundred this weekend. Hell yes, more on
- 26:53Speaker 1: that next week. I will report back and more after
- 26:56Speaker 1: this break. All right, let's recap disco's number one Season
