- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and stores, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations
- 1:12Speaker 1: chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Then, Jesus replied, I assure you the son is not
- 1:44Speaker 2: able to do anything on his own, but only what
- 1:48Speaker 2: he sees the father doing. For whatever the father does,
- 1:53Speaker 2: the son does also these things in the same way.
- 1:59Speaker 2: John chapter five and verse nineteen. This message is entitled
- 2:06Speaker 2: Christian Freedom are we free to do what we want? You?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Back in the carefree nineteen sixties, a rebellious generation was
- 2:17Speaker 2: taught to do whatever we wanted, go anywhere we wanted,
- 2:22Speaker 2: and with anyone we wanted. A popular song of that
- 2:26Speaker 2: era was just that go where you want to go.
- 2:31Speaker 2: This was also the time of the Vietnam War and
- 2:34Speaker 2: still required the draft for military service. Many of that
- 2:39Speaker 2: generation chose to leave the United States of America and
- 2:43Speaker 2: cross the borders into Canada in order to avoid serving
- 2:49Speaker 2: in the military forces. Later, after the war ended, these
- 2:54Speaker 2: same draft dodgers were given amnesty to come back to
- 2:58Speaker 2: this country. We even have some noted politicians who participated.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Those that were identified with that generation were called flower children,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and they displayed a symbol promoting peace. Whether we agree
- 3:14Speaker 2: with their songs or not. The impact of this free
- 3:18Speaker 2: to do whatever generation was not freedom for many, but bondage.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Praying in public schools, especially in Jesus' name, became first
- 3:30Speaker 2: ridiculed and then prohibited with subtlety. This new freedom became
- 3:35Speaker 2: demonstrated in all forms of drug and alcohol abuse. The
- 3:40Speaker 2: fabric of our culture was being torn apart. With the
- 3:44Speaker 2: advent of the birth control pilled and planned parenthood, leading
- 3:49Speaker 2: to abortion and the death of millions of unborn children.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Marriage as an institution of one man and one woman,
- 3:59Speaker 2: joined together, ordained and blessed by God, came under attack
- 4:04Speaker 2: and gave way to divorce for irreconcilable differences. Statistics show
- 4:10Speaker 2: that the number of broken homes due to divorce now
- 4:14Speaker 2: represented fifty percent of the marriages, and these figures, sadly
- 4:19Speaker 2: are the same in Christian homes as well. Yet no
- 4:24Speaker 2: one seems to care. Because we are free to choose
- 4:31Speaker 2: as Christians, our attitudes should be the same as the
- 4:34Speaker 2: attitude of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If we
- 4:39Speaker 2: are transparent, is it possible that we live in much
- 4:43Speaker 2: the same way as illustrated by the sixties generation, even
- 4:49Speaker 2: though we have Jesus living inside of us. We affirm
- 4:54Speaker 2: our faith, but we tend to place our wants ahead
- 4:58Speaker 2: of others. Richard will be.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Right back in a moment to wrap up. But if
- 5:03Speaker 1: you've just joined us you've been listening to Reflections on
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Word with Richard k. You can hear this message
- 5:08Speaker 1: in its entirety again online as well as Richard's entire
- 5:12Speaker 1: archive at Talknetwork Radio dot com. We would like to
- 5:16Speaker 1: acknowledge our theme song, how Great Is Thy Faithfulness from
- 5:20Speaker 1: the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns Album, unless otherwise. Express
- 5:24Speaker 1: scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, which
- 5:28Speaker 1: is published by Homann Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee. Additional
- 5:33Speaker 1: resources used for reflections on the Word with Richard K
- 5:36Speaker 1: include Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread and
- 5:40Speaker 1: printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard to
- 5:44Speaker 1: wrap up today's message.
- 5:48Speaker 2: This should not be the example of our Christian lifestyle.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Jesus agreed that he would not go wherever he wanted,
- 5:58Speaker 2: whenever he wanted. Instead, he agreed to do and say
- 6:03Speaker 2: only what the Father told him to do, and say,
- 6:10Speaker 2: our freedom in Christ is to obediently do the same
- 6:16Speaker 2: as Jesus. Then, Jesus replied, I assure you, the son
- 6:23Speaker 2: is not able to do anything on his own, but
- 6:28Speaker 2: only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the
- 6:32Speaker 2: Father does, the son also does these things in the
- 6:37Speaker 2: same way. John five nineteen taken from the Homes Christian
- 6:46Speaker 2: Standard Bible. And that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard, join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 6:57Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the World Richard
- 7:00Speaker 1: k or Richard the entire team. This is Chuck Christie
- 7:04Speaker 1: saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections on
- 7:07Speaker 1: the Word
