- 0:00The Nets lose their star play. They lose their star closer.
- 0:04The Nets are in a bad spot right now.
- 0:12I've never seen a Ranger team quick before the Olympics.
- 0:14We're going to be looking at Aaron Judge and saying that he
- 0:17can't win the big game, Michael Jordan said.
- 0:19I played 82 games. You don't see LeBron doing that,
- 0:23but Jack Hughes did after getting his teeth knocked out to
- 0:26play every single shift he got back in the game.
- 1:29Into the New York sports. This is the money shot.
- 1:33Come on, man. This is this is the future of

- 2:33for all our shows is go to our website at
- 2:36www.worldwidesportsradio.com. I'm, I'm fixing this whole
- 2:43appearance on this screen. So for all the fans out there,
- 2:46we're working with some new cameras, working with some new
- 2:49different technologies. So it's definitely better for
- 2:52the show. I, I will give you that.
- 2:54But nevertheless, it, it's a back and forth monitor thing.
- 2:57So for all the fans out there was, was probably wondering what
- 3:00was going on last week or actually not even last week.
- 3:03Monday we had, we, we were using so many different things.
- 3:06So I, I want to apologize to the fans, but to get into stuff
- 3:10that's happened over the last 24 hours, we've had a lot of
- 3:14meetings. Well, I've had a lot of
- 3:15meetings, but we had a nice meeting last night.
- 3:18We we hired a manager and there's a lot of things going on
- 3:21on the back end of the show and, and we want to have fun.
- 3:24We want to be different. Is this not one of those show
- 3:27shows that we're going to be speaking in mics with producers
- 3:31or any executive people in the background telling us what to
- 3:34say? We don't do that on the show.
- 3:36We know what we're going to get into.
- 3:37We know how we're going to attack it.
- 3:39And it's it's springtime here in New York.
- 3:41It's like, I think it was like 60 to 63° today.
- 3:45It is a beautiful day. If it doesn't go any hotter, I
- 3:49worry every single day when it comes to the weather because I
- 3:54don't know if it's going to snow in the springtime.
- 3:56So the springtime is so horrendous and I hate it.
- 3:59So for all the fans out there, I'm a spring baby.
- 4:02Baby I I was born April 29th, 1982.
- 4:06I never liked the spring because I don't know if it's going to be
- 4:08hot. I don't know if it's going to
- 4:10rain and I've seen it around my birthday time.
- 4:13It would snow. The only thing good about my
- 4:15birthday is April 29th is around.
- 4:18It's right around the corner or it's even before the it's after
- 4:21the draft. No, it's before the draft.
- 4:23No, it's after the draft, so April, I think what is the draft
- 4:27is April 26th this year, Am I not?
- 4:29Am I not mistaken? I don't know, but that's
- 4:32something that I'm always excited for.
- 4:34Usually the draft comes in usually the 27th or 28th.
- 4:39One time, I think it was during the. 23rd to the 25th.
- 4:43This year, All right, So it's earlier this year because
- 4:46usually, and I'll say this usually it's never that early
- 4:51and it's been pushed around between 29 and 27, sometimes 26.
- 4:56It never goes to April 23rd. But the NFL, you know, they're
- 5:00they're they're drawing fans from Pittsburgh and all the
- 5:03different states they're going to be doing in a did in Kansas
- 5:05City. So they're jumping from state to
- 5:07state. It usually gets held in New York
- 5:10and I remember quitting when you were drafted.
- 5:13It was in New York. Am I not mistaken?
- 5:15No, you're not mistaken. You were absolutely correct.
- 5:18So it was they moving around, they doing some branded things
- 5:22like we are. Now let me ask your question.
- 5:24It was at Radio City when you. Were Radio City when I was
- 5:27there? Yeah, yeah.
- 5:28So Quentin was drafted in what was it 2013, 2014, 2012.
- 5:34So, and, and it's interesting because I love the festivities
- 5:38for all these events. It's always great.
- 5:41The young players, they, they do interviews, the red carpet.
- 5:45It's beautiful. But the only thing it's not
- 5:47beautiful is I got to look at Rodger Goodell's face for a
- 5:50significant amount of time. There's no beauty in that,
- 5:52ladies and gentlemen, looking at that man's face.
- 5:54But he's a ginger. So all you gingers out there, if
- 5:58you want to make 50, $5,000,000 and robbed the league, maybe
- 6:01you'll get lucky and be Roger Goodell one day.
- 6:04Who knows? Roger Goodell is never stepping
- 6:06down. Why?
- 6:06Because the all the owners are giving him all the I think it's
- 6:11if I'm not mistaken, he has a lifetime insurance.
- 6:13Him and his family, he's got his own jet, he's got everything.
- 6:18Who's better than Roger Goodell? He's a lucky.
- 6:22You know what? I'm not going to say it because
- 6:23I don't want to curse anybody out, but he's absolutely like
- 6:27that, ladies and gentlemen. Anyways, so let's get into it.
- 6:30Opening Day was yesterday and the Yankees had the opportunity
- 6:35to show off on Netflix. The Yankees defeated the Giants
- 6:387 to nothing in the first game of the MLB season.
- 6:40The Yankees got five runs in just two innings of All Star on
- 6:45All Star pitcher Logan Webb with six straight Yankees reaching
- 6:49base in that inning. Max free pitch 6.1 scoreless
- 6:54innings allowing only one walk, two hits and struck out four.
- 6:59Which a lot of people weren't happy when it came to DraftKings
- 7:01and FanDuel. Just so everybody knows cuz the
- 7:04estimation was he had to break 5 5 strikeouts to win some money.
- 7:08So a lot of people didn't win some money.
- 7:10The bigger issue was a lot of complaining complaints coming
- 7:14from the ML BS first at Netflix broadcast which included a bad
- 7:18interview with Rob Manfred, a weird Yankees lineup
- 7:21introduction with women dancing through right next to taxi cabs
- 7:25and fat Joes lean back and the score bug as we all said,
- 7:30randomly disappearing throughout the game.
- 7:33The Mets beat the Pirates in their Opening Day game 11 to 7,
- 7:37including five runs in the first inning that knocked out Paul
- 7:41Schemes out of the game. Freddy Peralta struggled in his
- 7:45Mets debut, pitching just five innings and allowing four runs,
- 7:49while new Mets hitters like Louise Robert and Marcus Simeon
- 7:55had two hits and an RBI in their Mets debuts.
- 7:58I watched the Yankee game. I watched pretty much the whole
- 8:02game and Max Free pitched a great game.
- 8:04I know Yankee fans want him to pitch 67 strikeouts and and
- 8:08pitch 7 innings and maybe even pitch a a complete game.
- 8:12But Max Freed last year was fighting injury all season long.
- 8:15He missed a significant amount of time.
- 8:17I think if I'm not mistaken he missed up over a month because
- 8:20of injury. Three weeks or a month, but he
- 8:23was he was up and down in the second-half of the season.
- 8:26He started off really, really strong.
- 8:28He was going to be he was up for the Cy Young and it kind of fell
- 8:31out of that, that conversation at the tail end of the season.
- 8:34He still won a lot of games for the Yankees.
- 8:36He is their ace. When Garrett Cole comes back,
- 8:39he's probably going to be Garrett Cole's going to be the
- 8:41number two. He will not be the number one.
- 8:43Max Freed, they're going to ride and die with because Max Freed
- 8:47is a lefty. He's got all the talent in the
- 8:49world. We've seen what he's done in his
- 8:51career with the Braves. He had a great season with the
- 8:53Yankees. It just he wasn't as good in the
- 8:56second-half as he was in the first half because of the finger
- 8:59injury that he had, the blister injury, which he's had that
- 9:02problem for the last couple of years with the Braves and with
- 9:04the Yankees. Hopefully he doesn't have any
- 9:06blisters this year. Maybe he'll be up for a Saiyan,
- 9:08but he pitched fantastically against a Giants lineup that is
- 9:12really good. Chapman is a good hitter, Gevers
- 9:16is a good hitter. They've got guys that can hit in
- 9:19that lineup for the fact that the Yankees shut them down and
- 9:21shut them out with their bullpen.
- 9:23And the Yankees bullpen is always good in the first half of
- 9:26the season. And then when the second-half
- 9:28comes around, they're not as good.
- 9:30They go from one of the top five to falling probably in the
- 9:34teens, 1314 by the end of the season.
- 9:37Now everybody wants to blame Aaron Boone for that and maybe
- 9:40you can point your fingers at him because that's the only
- 9:42thing a real manager controls is the bullpen and the pitching.
- 9:47But watching the game and I, I'll say this, I respect
- 9:50Netflix. I respect it.
- 9:52I love everything that they do. I really do.
- 9:54I like the movies, I like the documentaries, They're
- 9:57sensational, they're fantastic, multibillion dollar industry.
- 10:03But when you look at Jake Paul and all that other stuff that
- 10:06we've seen over the last couple of years and Jake Paul's going
- 10:10black, it black outs. You can't watch all the fights,
- 10:13goes in and goes out. The stream's not strong, it's
- 10:15back. The same thing happened with
- 10:19this Yankee game. There was the Yankees went up 3
- 10:23nothing. And nobody knew because it was
- 10:25it was still 00 on Netflix. And I, I know the introduction,
- 10:30I, me and fish were going back and forth.
- 10:32We were talking about the, the Fat Joe song lean back and the
- 10:36taxis with the Yankee emblem all over them.
- 10:39And there's, I don't know what you call them, dancers dancing
- 10:42in front of the taxis. Is it embarrassing?
- 10:45I wouldn't say it was embarrassing, but you're
- 10:47knocking what New York is all about.
- 10:51New York is not about taxis. There's a lot of them, but
- 10:55that's not how we want to be portrayed.
- 10:58Oh, where there's a million taxi drivers, they're going to run
- 11:01you over. That's not what you want to
- 11:04portray when it comes to New York City and New York.
- 11:09And it is a New York State of mind.
- 11:11It always is and it always has been.
- 11:15But the fact here is when you think about what happened in
- 11:18this game, Aaron Judge was over 4.
- 11:20He had four strikeouts. Everybody says Aaron Judge
- 11:22hasn't looked good throughout the WBC.
- 11:24He hasn't looked good in game #1 Aaron Judge is still one of the
- 11:29elite hitters in baseball. He will figure it out.
- 11:32He in the last couple of years, he's battered over 300.
- 11:35This guy is the best, one of the best, if not the best hitter in
- 11:38all the baseball. Almost won the Triple Crown last
- 11:40year. He was up for the Triple Crown
- 11:42all the way into probably the last two months of the season.
- 11:49And the fact here is as a Yankee fan, you should be excited.
- 11:52Why? Because the Yankees went in to
- 11:55San Francisco and shut down a very good San Francisco Giant
- 12:00offense. They did.
- 12:03And and Logan Webb was not as good as he has been over the
- 12:07years. But Logan Webb, usually if you
- 12:09get, if you want to get to Logan Webb, the only way you're going
- 12:12to get to Logan Webb, guys, is he get to him early because once
- 12:16he settles in, he's one of the more unhittable pitchers in all
- 12:20of baseball. And the Yankees to me with their
- 12:24lineup. And you can go up and down that
- 12:26lineup. Trent, Trent Grissom, who batted
- 12:29at #1 center fielder, 5 at bats, one hit, two RB is Aaron Judge
- 12:35was oh, for four, actually, oh for five.
- 12:38Cody Bellinger got a run and a hit.
- 12:42Ben Rice, a run, a hit and an RBI.
- 12:46So you go up and down. The guy that really a lot of
- 12:48people were questioning this year if he's going to stay
- 12:51healthy with his elbow problems is Giancarlo Stanton.
- 12:55And honest to God, watching Giancarlo Stanton in this game,
- 12:59he looks healthy. He has a pretty good timing
- 13:02swing. He looked really, really good in
- 13:04the game. And if the Yankees can keep him
- 13:06healthy all season long, all season long, how about they
- 13:09don't even have to keep him healthy all season long.
- 13:12Make sure that he's going to be in that line up at least 130
- 13:14games this year. And then you decide to sit him
- 13:19out at the tail end of the season to get him ready for the
- 13:21playoffs because he's one of the more natural hitters in the
- 13:24playoffs for the New York Yankees.
- 13:26He's been the best hitter for the New York Yankees over the
- 13:29last couple of years in the playoffs.
- 13:32He's got two years left. The Yankees can buy him out if
- 13:34he has an offseason this year, they can buy him out next year.
- 13:37He, he's only making $19 million next year.
- 13:42I mean, that's a lot of money. But I'm, I'm just saying for a
- 13:43baseball player, a superstar and John Colorstan, I wouldn't call
- 13:47him a superstar, but he is a star.
- 13:50He's one of the strongest hitters in baseball still.
- 13:54The hit, the hit set he had yesterday, he didn't even have
- 13:57to put full contact on the ball and it was all the way out to
- 14:01the center field, to the right field.
- 14:03This guy's got tremendous power and if this line up works the
- 14:09way it looked and worked with the against the Giants in game
- 14:12number one, this line up is not going to have any problem
- 14:14scoring runs. Now, they're not going to score
- 14:17seven runs a game because a lot of these guys go into slumps.
- 14:22Besides Aaron Judge, everybody hit in the game, every one of
- 14:26them from top to bottom, Austin Wells.
- 14:29Austin Wells looks really good. He looked good in the WBC.
- 14:32As a matter of fact, Austin Wells was one of the best
- 14:35players in the WBC and he looks good right now.
- 14:39Maybe it's the beard and the mustache, maybe growing the
- 14:42facial hair, because he didn't have much of that last year.
- 14:44And now you can have that being that the Yankees have changed
- 14:47their rules, their guidelines, But this team is is good.
- 14:54And I believe this team's going to win more than 90 games this
- 14:56year as long as they stay healthy.
- 14:58The pitching, there's a lot of questions.
- 15:00They sent Luis Gil down to the minors.
- 15:03They have a lot of pitchers. Schmidt is back.
- 15:07They they have a talented team, Schlittler Rodan and eventually
- 15:14Garrett Cole. A lot of people were complaining
- 15:16to the Yankees. Why?
- 15:17Why would you send Luis Gil down when he's one of the more
- 15:23talented pitches the Yankees have on this roster?
- 15:26And one of the main reasons why Luisio was sent down is his
- 15:30location of the ball in in pre season.
- 15:33I watched him, I watched him pitch twice in pre season.
- 15:37He was not as good in the pre season over the past.
- 15:42Now it's pre season. That's why they're going to give
- 15:44him some opportunity reps so he can get his pitches back in, you
- 15:48know, and get his location back and his speed pick up and, and
- 15:52he'll get called up probably in the next couple of weeks.
- 15:57But we have to expect that Ben Rice is going to be an everyday
- 16:01first baseman. I know they brought Paul
- 16:03Goldschmidt back. They're not going to play Ben
- 16:05Rice back-to-back days. Ben Rice the way the Yankees
- 16:09want to set this up. He's the future 1st baseman for
- 16:12this team. He can hit is on base percentage
- 16:15last year for a guy that's young or it wasn't a rookie.
- 16:19He's two years into the major leagues last year, but he got
- 16:23his chance to play a lot more than he has.
- 16:26Ben Rice was good. And here's the thing, you you
- 16:31step back and you wonder and at speed, I'll fix your camera.
- 16:34You can still go in. It's OK, I will fix it.
- 16:37You can't do it. You go in and out is not going
- 16:39to help it. Austin Wells has to play well
- 16:45this year. Cody Bellinger has to give them
- 16:49that offense that he did in the second-half of the season.
- 16:51Cody Bellinger was one of the best left-handed hitters in
- 16:54baseball last year. He hit very well against
- 16:59lefties, one of the top three in all the baseball.
- 17:04But in the playoffs he disappeared.
- 17:06Half of these guys disappeared. Jazz, Chisholm.
- 17:09Yesterday they were interviewing on the baseball field and that's
- 17:13another thing that's embarrassing that has never
- 17:15happened in a professional baseball game where you can talk
- 17:18to the players, the analyst can talk to you while you're playing
- 17:21on the field. You're trying to concentrate.
- 17:24If I'm, I'm a professional baseball player and I'm trying
- 17:27or I'm expecting to get an 8 year, $35 million contract every
- 17:31single year from the New York Yankees, I want to make sure
- 17:34that my head is in the game. And Jazz, we all know about him.
- 17:39If his head's not in the game, he's not the same player.
- 17:43This is a team that is is going to win a lot of games.
- 17:47Yankee fans were not happy with Brian Cashman because they
- 17:50didn't do anything. That's the way they looked at
- 17:52it. But they did.
- 17:55They extended Cody Bellinger. They gave him a contract.
- 18:00I think Cody Bellinger took $25 million less to go to to go stay
- 18:06with the Yankees. He wanted a longer deal.
- 18:09He wanted more than five years. The Yankees gave him no more
- 18:12than five years. The Yankees are sitting in a
- 18:17position where they've got some good young players in their farm
- 18:20system. We're going to see Spencer Jones
- 18:22this year. We will.
- 18:24I don't care what Brian Cashman says.
- 18:26He's not moving the kid Dominguez.
- 18:28We'll see if he figures things out.
- 18:30He has not been the quote on quote Martian.
- 18:36This is a good team. I wonder that when they match up
- 18:40against the teams in their division, the Red Sox, the Blue
- 18:43Jays, the Rays and the Orioles, how good are they going to be
- 18:47able to play against those teams?
- 18:48Because you play more games against your division, the
- 18:51division that you're playing in that any team in all the
- 18:54baseball. And as a as a fan of watching
- 18:59the New York Yankees yesterday, everybody wants to point their
- 19:02finger what's going on with Aaron Judge?
- 19:03What's going on with them? It's game number one, guys.
- 19:07He struck out four times. Do you want to see your best
- 19:10player strike out four times on a Netflix channel where millions
- 19:14and millions and millions of people are watching?
- 19:17But guess what? The Yankees won seven to nothing
- 19:22in San Francisco. It wasn't like they needed Aaron
- 19:25Judge to get a home run or two home runs or five.
- 19:28RB is as the season progressively moves forward,
- 19:34you're going to see Aaron Judge get 5.
- 19:35RB is in a game, two home runs in a game.
- 19:38I had Jeff call me up and text me all day today.
- 19:41Aaron Judge broke a record last night.
- 19:43He's he's all about breaking records.
- 19:45He's the first player in Major League history to win an MVP and
- 19:49strike out four times in game #1 opening day for his with his
- 19:54team. He's the only player that's ever
- 19:56done that. Who cares?
- 19:58Those statistics mean nothing. Because guess what?
- 20:02Who is 1 and all the New York Yankees.
- 20:05And the Yankees really did all their damage early in the game
- 20:10in the first two innings. The Yankees did their damage.
- 20:12They had five runs in 2 1/2 innings.
- 20:17And if you can get those kind of runs early in the game against
- 20:19pitchers like Logan Webb, who I don't know if anybody
- 20:23understands how good this kid is.
- 20:26This guy was one of the top five National League pitchers in
- 20:29baseball last year, one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball last
- 20:33year. And he only gets better as the
- 20:36innings go by. But the Yankees ran them out.
- 20:40And this, again, going back to San Francisco, this is a young
- 20:44team. They've got veterans on it, but
- 20:46they're a young team. And I'm telling you right now,
- 20:51San Francisco could be a borderline playoff team this
- 20:53year if everything falls right for them.
- 20:55They can, but with, with the Yankees and looking at some of
- 20:59the positional players that they have, they didn't use Volpe.
- 21:03I, I know they didn't send Volpe down, but he did not start.
- 21:08And where do the Yankees go with Volpe when he gets a chance to
- 21:11play? Because he had an up and down
- 21:14spring training, an up and down spring training.
- 21:19And you can't depend on a, you know, on a shortstop that is, is
- 21:25really a journeyman in the league.
- 21:29So the Yankees are going to have to decide early and, and moving
- 21:32forward this season. They need to get offense from
- 21:35that position. They got an RBI and they got a
- 21:37hit and a run last night. But he's not going to do it
- 21:40every single game. They're going to have to depend
- 21:43on Volpe if they think Volpe is going to be the future shortstop
- 21:48of this organization. You got to test and test the
- 21:50water with this kid, see what he has, see what he can do and if
- 21:54he can get it back. His swing where he can hit for
- 21:56average, he doesn't have to hit 27280.
- 21:59If he hits 260 and gives you 20 something home runs and eighty
- 22:03RB Rs or 75 RB Rs. That's and I guess you could say
- 22:07a borderline Gold Glove shortstop because he was 1A Gold
- 22:12Glove before. If he can come where, if he come
- 22:15back this season and do anywhere close to what he did his first
- 22:18two years. The Yankees still have a a
- 22:21competent shortstop. Whenever they decide to bring up
- 22:24Lombard back back up from from the what do they call it, the
- 22:29AAA or whatever their farm system.
- 22:34The Yankees have some players, the Yankees and everybody says,
- 22:37where's Spencer Jones? Where's he ranked in baseball
- 22:40right now? Well, ladies and gentlemen, when
- 22:42me and fish were going back and forth a couple of weeks ago
- 22:44about Spencer Jones, he said he wasn't a top 100 guy.
- 22:48Now he is. Spencer Jones is a top 100
- 22:51player. There's no question after the
- 22:54spring training he had and what he had last year as a player in
- 23:00AAA, you can match his numbers to Aaron Judge's final year in
- 23:05AAA when he got called up at the age of 24.
- 23:10They're not going to hold him up anymore and this team is going
- 23:13to need that offense because none of these guys are going to
- 23:16be able to stay healthy. Trent Grissom, you're going to
- 23:18bet that he's going to stay healthy out in the outfield.
- 23:21Probably not. Cody Bellinger I I would trust
- 23:25in Cody more than any of these guys to stay healthy.
- 23:28Chisholm I I could see him doing something stupid and hurting
- 23:31himself. Ryan McMahon, all these guys,
- 23:34they're a lot of these guys are going to go down for a
- 23:36significant amount of time. They need that depth and I think
- 23:42they have it. They got Dominguez, they got
- 23:44Spencer Jones, they got Lombard, they've got guys that you could
- 23:47call up at any given time. And I think Brian Cashman is
- 23:51really keeping that in his pocket.
- 23:54He's not going to show you his hand, but he's going to give you
- 23:58an opportunity to know that that's where he's going to go if
- 24:00need be. They need offense and they need
- 24:02somebody in that line up that's going to spark this line up up.
- 24:05Look what Matthew Shaffer has done for the New York Islanders.
- 24:09Young guy, 18 years old, the guy comes up, comes in first round
- 24:16draft pick, gets in, gets in and automatically makes a change for
- 24:21the New York Islanders. The Islanders become a
- 24:23laughingstock of the league. Old team to one of the more
- 24:26exciting teams to watch. Now that's what Spencer Jones is
- 24:31going to deliver to the New York Yankees.
- 24:32When the Yankees call them up. I don't know everybody's going
- 24:35to point their fingers on. Why aren't you speaking about
- 24:37what baseball was doing and, and, and on Netflix.
- 24:40The one thing I would say it the 7th inning stretch, take me off
- 24:44to the ball game. Did anybody see that, that the
- 24:46video that they had posted of all these people on social
- 24:49media, you put your name in and maybe they'll ZAP your your,
- 24:52your video on on your your computer.
- 24:55How many weirdos look, they all look like escaped convicts on
- 25:01those videos. I I'm not kidding.
- 25:03There was a couple of cool videos, you know, a couple of
- 25:05cool people on their video or pictures and and all that other
- 25:08stuff. But most of the guys look like
- 25:11they were sitting in front of the computer doing something.
- 25:13But it's definitely not watching the baseball game.
- 25:17So I think that if you're a Yankee fan should be happy,
- 25:22you're not happy about Aaron Judge.
- 25:24Hopefully he figures out what this slump is doing to him.
- 25:27I think he will. I think he will definitely
- 25:29figure it out. This guy is a guy that when he
- 25:31gets hot, he is hot and he you can't you can throw water on him
- 25:37and it still stay hot. But when he's in a slump, he
- 25:40could go for he could go O for 16, O for 17.
- 25:43We've seen this before. And I I'll go back to fish my
- 25:48argument with him with Spencer Jones.
- 25:50Oh, he strikes out too much. So did Aaron Judge.
- 25:54So did Aaron Judge and he changed his swing when he came
- 25:58up and that's the same thing that Spencer Jones did.
- 26:04And I do believe that this offense put up a good amount of
- 26:08runs in game #1 if they're not going to do that, and the
- 26:12Yankees throughout the season, in certain parts of the season,
- 26:15we're not putting up a lot of runs.
- 26:17They were depending on their pitching.
- 26:19And their pitching has been good every single year.
- 26:22You want to go back and look at the Yankees and you can say, oh,
- 26:25this is offensive team. The Yankees pitching has been in
- 26:29the top 10 for the last seven years, Seven years.
- 26:35They're always a good pitching staff.
- 26:37Always. And now they are an elite
- 26:41pitching staff when Garrett Cole comes back, because then you
- 26:45don't need to put Garrett Cole at 1.
- 26:47You can put him at two or three because you got Cam Schlittler,
- 26:52who could be a number 2 for you this year.
- 26:54Rodon, who was pretty good last year, except in the playoffs, of
- 26:58course. This is a good team.
- 27:02Yankee fans don't believe. There are friends of mine that
- 27:05are die hard Yankee fans that does not believe the Yankees are
- 27:09going to win more than 90 games. And I say, I say to them, and
- 27:13you're probably listening right now, Matt and Mike, all you guys
- 27:17listen to the show right now. Here's the twist.
- 27:21You cannot predict what's going to happen this year because
- 27:24there's injuries. Some of these guys could become
- 27:27superstars. Ben Rice could be a superstar
- 27:29first baseman this year and hit over 300 and make the All Star
- 27:33team. He had glimpses of that last
- 27:36year. Wells, this guy is a good
- 27:42catcher. He's transition.
- 27:44Everybody said in over the last couple of years of spring
- 27:48training that this guy is never going to last behind the plate.
- 27:53And now he's figured things out in the WBC, was one of the
- 27:57hottest hitters in in all of the WBC.
- 28:02And these guys are going to have to be those, those type of guys
- 28:06to lean on. If guys like Aaron Judge isn't
- 28:09hitting, Bellinger isn't hitting, Chisholm is not hitting
- 28:13because they're going to go into slumps.
- 28:16And by the way, I love Hunter Pence as a player.
- 28:21I love them. I really do.
- 28:23San Francisco, I remember when he played for the Phillies and
- 28:26then he went to San Francisco and he won a championship.
- 28:29Think he won two championships over there in San Francisco.
- 28:32He was a good playoff hitter too.
- 28:34Hunter Pence, He is horrible, horrible as a broadcaster.
- 28:40CC this is his first time doing it.
- 28:42I I don't expect CC to do this a lot, but he's a nice guy.
- 28:46He has a nice smile. Yankee fans love him, everybody
- 28:50loves him. So to CCC CC Sabathia on, on
- 28:56opening day as an analyst, that's cool.
- 28:58I, I, I don't want to see that. And here's another thing that
- 29:01really turned me off. If it's a Yankee game, I want to
- 29:05see the Yankee broadcasters. I don't want to see any of this
- 29:08garbage. I don't want to see somebody
- 29:10else that calls games in San Diego or San Francisco or, you
- 29:16know, for the Nationals or any of these teams, if, if the
- 29:19Yankees are playing or if the San Francisco Giants are playing
- 29:24and they're playing at home, I want to at least hear the San
- 29:27Francisco Giants guys. I don't want to hear what
- 29:31Netflix is putting together. And he thinks that, hey, let's
- 29:34make this stick. Maybe we can get CC Sabathi.
- 29:36We'll turn them into Tom Brady. You know, that's what I think is
- 29:41what what Netflix is trying to do.
- 29:43They're trying to put names and, and what is Netflix paying these
- 29:46guys for? I mean, I don't know what CC
- 29:49made on, made for, for last night's broadcast.
- 29:52I'm sure he's making a pretty penny.
- 29:53So is Hunter Pence. And who's this actor?
- 29:57Who's this guy? This guy does the announcements
- 30:01before the game. He's a comedian.
- 30:04Bert, whatever. What's his name?
- 30:06Bert Kreischner. Bert Kreischner.
- 30:08See, I don't even know who that guy is, so why do I give a crap
- 30:12if he's standing out there screaming at a mic and trying to
- 30:15get everybody hyped up? That was horrible.
- 30:18If that's the way you're going to hype your team because you're
- 30:21a San Francisco Giants fan, then I don't want to hear you.
- 30:26I would have rather heard like a roast of jokes on the mic, make
- 30:30fun of the Yankees. That would have been funny.
- 30:33I would have loved to hear that. A little roast, 5 minute roast.
- 30:36I mean, like, I'm not going to call it the, the what do they
- 30:40call it? The Oscars or the Globe?
- 30:42What do they call it? The Golden Globe.
- 30:43Golden Globe? Yeah, whatever.
- 30:46I, I, those guys, they get these comedians to come out there and
- 30:48make, you know, crack a couple of jokes.
- 30:50So you bring a comedian out and he wasn't funny.
- 30:53There was nothing, nothing enjoyable about that game as far
- 30:58as I'm concerned of the broadcast and the
- 31:01extracurricular activities, which was absolutely horrible.
- 31:06And then you countdown on the on, on the trot over there. 1098
- 31:11what? Counting down to what, the
- 31:12season opener? Who cares?
- 31:17There's 161 games left. Nobody cares.
- 31:22Nobody. As a Yankee fan, I laughed at
- 31:26it. I think it's funny.
- 31:27Fish told me go, you got to check out the beginning of the
- 31:30game, because I don't watch the And by the way, I love Barry
- 31:34Bonds. I love him.
- 31:37I really do. I love him.
- 31:38I I've, I've always thought that Barry Bonds is one of the
- 31:41greatest athletes I've ever seen play in professional sports.
- 31:45I don't care if he did steroids, that doesn't make you see the
- 31:47ball. It's a tough statement.
- 31:49Greatest athlete. One of the greatest athletes
- 31:51I've ever seen. Yes, yes, absolutely.
- 31:55Barry Bonds, you can argue, is 1 if not the greatest hitter, the
- 31:58second greatest hitter. In baseball, for sure, no
- 32:01question. So I love seeing him, and I love
- 32:04that Netflix hired him to just sit there and make jokes and
- 32:08smile. But here's the problem.
- 32:10Everything that I've heard about Barry Bonds is he's not a nice
- 32:14guy. He's not.
- 32:16So when you're watching, you see him smiling and getting along
- 32:19with everybody and his peers. This guy couldn't get along with
- 32:22anybody. Him and Jeff Kent couldn't stand
- 32:24each other. They couldn't stand each other.
- 32:29Jeff Kent just got just got inducted into the Baseball Hall
- 32:32of Fame. Barry Bonds will never be
- 32:34inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame because you have Rob
- 32:36Manfred or Manfred running that organization.
- 32:40Pete Rose is finally going to get his opportunity to go into
- 32:43the Hall of Fame because he's dead.
- 32:46It's pathetic. And coming out to fat shows.
- 32:50Leap out of all the New York songs to pick.
- 32:53Lean back. I'm leaning back every time I
- 32:57watch it. What saw you would have chose
- 33:01that represents New York, NY? That's a good question.
- 33:03New York New. Oh, Jay-Z, Alicia.
- 33:05No New York, NY New. York.
- 33:07Frank Sinatra, that's what they when they win, that's what they
- 33:11play. Why not Frank Sinatra?
- 33:13That's the that's the theme song of the New York Yankees.
- 33:17That's what I want to hear. I don't want to hear like lean
- 33:19back, lean back. I I'm surprised that Fat Joe
- 33:23wasn't there dancing right through that that those taxis
- 33:26and all those dancers. By the way, no offense to
- 33:29Netflix. Some of the ugliest dancers.
- 33:32Honestly, if you're going to pick dancers, pick at least sexy
- 33:36ones. I mean, at least it's something
- 33:38to look at. I.
- 33:38Don't know, it seems like they were nothing approved based on
- 33:40his reaction backstage. They weren't pretty.
- 33:43There was nothing about them that really stuck out to me
- 33:45except they were wearing sweatshirts in 80° weather.
- 33:49Why are they doing that? Makes no sense.
- 33:51I, I guess they're trying to mock New York.
- 33:54I I don't know. And why is our emblem taxi
- 33:58drivers? That's, that's what you picked.
- 34:01We're going to walk through taxis.
- 34:03That's what we're going to do. Great.
- 34:05Congratulations, all you New New York fans listening to the show
- 34:08right now, You know what they portray us as?
- 34:11Taxi drivers, taxi drivers, fat people that Dr. taxis.
- 34:18That's what they think we're We're overweight.
- 34:20We don't take care of ourselves. We're ugly.
- 34:24We're mean, disrespectful. You know what was disrespectful
- 34:28for that? Watching Aaron Judge walk
- 34:30through two taxis. That's disrespectful.
- 34:35Honestly, if you're a baseball fan, you can't tell me that's
- 34:39something you want to see Aaron Judge, your superstar player,
- 34:42the MVP of the American League last year, yes, last year, walk
- 34:47through a bunch of taxis and, and you saw Aaron Judge, he
- 34:50wasn't paying attention. Bellinger made a you could see
- 34:52that Bellinger didn't like it. Aaron Boone don't care, but it's
- 34:57embarrassing. That's my argument here.
- 35:00And here's another thing I I'd like to hear you guys take.
- 35:04What really bothered me about the game is that it wasn't about
- 35:08baseball. It was about entertainment.
- 35:14And to me, that's what sports has turned into.
- 35:18It's entertainment. Nobody cares if you win a
- 35:21championship except the Dodgers because they cheat.
- 35:24They found a they found something in that the rules and
- 35:28the rule book kind of Bill Belichick.
- 35:30But Bill Belichick knew that there was no rules telling him
- 35:33that he couldn't do it. Oh.
- 35:36Boy. But that's the embarrassing
- 35:38thing here because instead of bringing out the past time of
- 35:44America and building it up, and remember, the Giants were the
- 35:50New York Giants at one point. They were here in New York
- 35:54before they went to San Francisco, just like the
- 35:57Dodgers, that was the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 36:01And the Yankees are New York. Besides the Mets, they're New
- 36:05York. And to see the New York Yankees
- 36:08get disrespected like that is despicable.
- 36:12And I'm sorry, I I'm doing something else.
- 36:14I'm finding this guy. They're coming through.
- 36:16What? What is that?
- 36:17A truffle? A truffle.
- 36:18Whatever the hell it is, those buses in San Francisco,
- 36:20whatever, it was a trolley. That's what it is.
- 36:23It was a trolley. But it's it's embarrassing
- 36:28they're going. Through a nice trolley and the
- 36:30Yankees are walking through taxi drivers.
- 36:32Wonderful, wonderful. Great.
- 36:34Thank you. Thank you to Netflix for making
- 36:36us look even worse than we really are.
- 36:38Yeah, it's a Car Wars type thing.
- 36:40Seems like more structure for a racing event, not really a
- 36:43baseball game. It's kind of weird.
- 36:44Racing event, Yeah, you see. Taxis at racing events.
- 36:48I guess you were to go culturally, but.
- 36:50Still, it's kind of weird nevertheless.
- 36:51Yeah, I was. I was disappointed. 100 pence,
- 36:54too. I actually thought he might be
- 36:55good at broadcasting. Yeah, he was definitely all over
- 36:57the place. He was horrible.
- 36:58Yeah, I didn't like him. At all he was.
- 36:59Absolutely horrible CC. Was OK because he was speaking
- 37:03in a pitch state of mind, right? But I wouldn't even tell you.
- 37:07I wouldn't even throw CC under the bus.
- 37:09But CC wasn't really that good either.
- 37:11I To me, he's a Yankee and Hunter Pence is a is a giant.
- 37:15Is he a giant? Because he really wasn't a
- 37:17giant. He was a Philadelphia Astros and
- 37:19Phillies. Yeah, he's known.
- 37:20Mostly he had. Most of his career was with the
- 37:23Phillies, I think, if I'm not mistaken, I think it was like a
- 37:25kind of a mixed bag. I.
- 37:26Think he started with the Astros pretty young.
- 37:28If it was it was maybe by a few years but like he'd be bouncing
- 37:31around all over the place. He won his championships with
- 37:33the. The Giants, and I know him and
- 37:35Buster Posey Posey are very close friends.
- 37:38They're very cool because what happened was the 20. 12 Phillies
- 37:40really fell off, so they treated him at that deadline to the
- 37:43Giants, and then he's won 2012 from the 2014 championships with
- 37:46them. Yeah, I remember.
- 37:47Yeah. And he was a big.
- 37:48Part of that offense, he was a huge part of that offense
- 37:50because. He was one of the few guys that
- 37:52actually had power in that line if it was much more of a contact
- 37:54hitting lineup and him Posey and a few others were the only ones
- 37:57that had a little and Pablo Sandoval were probably the only
- 37:59ones that had a little raw power on that team.
- 38:00But you want to hear something funny all.
- 38:02I've been hearing on social media is not what Max Free did.
- 38:05It's what Aaron Judge didn't do in the game.
- 38:08That's all I keep hearing on social media.
- 38:10Yeah, that's the part I wanted to get to because.
- 38:12Aaron Judge, it seems like throughout his career, his
- 38:14biggest slumps I think are right after the All Star break.
- 38:17I think in general there, a lot of his other times are right at
- 38:19the beginning of the season. And especially when you look at
- 38:22when you look at the World Baseball Classic going on as
- 38:24well. And apparently that affected
- 38:25Logan Webb of apparently that affected Paul Skeens, who the
- 38:28Mets lit up in the first inning as well.
- 38:29We'll talk about that. Yeah.
- 38:30And the. Same kind of thing with the.
- 38:32Yankees, they lit him. They survived the first inning,
- 38:34but the Yankees lit him up in the second inning.
- 38:35Five runs. And it wasn't even like a lot of
- 38:37home runs either that the Yankees had.
- 38:39It was a lot of these jazzism got hit by a pitch and it was a
- 38:42lot. I believe it was the WBC.
- 38:44That caused this problem. I think it's too early to tell,
- 38:46but it's only. It wasn't right now, it wasn't
- 38:48they they pitched as. Much as they would have pitched
- 38:50in spring training, Yeah, that's why I'm saying it's too early to
- 38:53tell. Like maybe it's higher leverage
- 38:55pitching, maybe it's just not a warm up type thing.
- 38:57Wouldn't you think that would they would be better?
- 38:59Being that they had to play against better talent, maybe.
- 39:01Again, it's tough to tell because it's.
- 39:03Only been it's been three years, it's been a lot of these guys
- 39:05first time, especially skiings who's came into the league in
- 39:072024. So again, it's too early to tell
- 39:10with that sample. But going back to the Yankees
- 39:12itself, like Yankees strung together hits very well against,
- 39:14like you said, a top 15 French top ten pitcher in Logan Webb.
- 39:17That's so a lot to say. Amit's Aaron Judge struggling at
- 39:20the play. You had Stanton hitting singles
- 39:22and scoring from second on a on a single and all these guys
- 39:25stringing together hits. It's definitely good to see if
- 39:27you're the Yankees standpoint. And you're right, the giants do
- 39:28have a a tough offense, not power wise, but depth wise in
- 39:32that lineup. You mentioned jungle Leo before
- 39:33the show. Korean kid Helio Ramos is a good
- 39:36outfielder too. They've had some decent options.
- 39:38Adamus and Chapman are obviously the big free agent signings they
- 39:41got. But this is a team that
- 39:42definitely is going to be, if they can get enough power, a
- 39:45team that will compete for that wild card spot.
- 39:47So the Yankees and Max Free definitely should be impressed
- 39:50with that was very impressive. What the Yankees?
- 39:52Did I Don't know what anybody was watching, but Max Free shut
- 39:56them down. He shut their offense down in
- 40:00that game. They could not touch him.
- 40:02And I know he didn't have 6 or 7 strikeouts.
- 40:04This guy's a strikeout pitcher. This guy's one of the best
- 40:07strikeout pitchers in baseball and one of the best lefties in
- 40:10baseball. You can argue.
- 40:12You can argue he is the best lefty in baseball.
- 40:14You can argue that. But again I.
- 40:18Just it wasn't about baseball. This game was not about
- 40:22baseball. It was about entertainment.
- 40:24It was about, hey, you know what we're going to, we bought into
- 40:28this. We're paying baseball $150
- 40:30million for the next three years.
- 40:31They have a couple of games. They have all these different,
- 40:34they have, they're doing the Home Run Derby this year on
- 40:36Netflix, which I if you don't have Netflix, good luck.
- 40:40If you like the Home Run Derby, I'd love to hear.
- 40:42How's your pants do that? But here's the thing, I want to
- 40:44say something I. Want to give a shout out to
- 40:46Leaf? He runs Miller's Ale House.
- 40:48He's one of the managers there. He's a friend of mine that grew
- 40:50up with him. He called me a couple of days
- 40:53ago and he told me, did you hear?
- 40:55And I said what he says. Well, their Netflix reached out
- 41:00to us and they asked us if we wanted to buy into the Yankee
- 41:04game that was coming opening day.
- 41:07And he told me, he said there's no way we're going to be paying
- 41:09for what they want. And you have to pay for $10 on
- 41:12each TV. Think about it.
- 41:14So think about that. And you have to subscribe to
- 41:16that. So there was no way that was
- 41:18going to happen. So he told all the people the
- 41:21day before that was coming in and getting really excited about
- 41:24the baseball season that the Yankee game will not be played
- 41:28in Miller's Ale House. And then find out the next day,
- 41:33five hours before the game, that DIRECTV and Netflix drew up a
- 41:39deal. And DIRECTV, don't you know,
- 41:42people that have DIRECTV, including the bars, can buy into
- 41:46it for the game. So they had to subscribe and buy
- 41:48in to DIRECTV for the game. I don't know how much it was,
- 41:52but then they eventually got the game in Miller's Alehouse.
- 41:55But guess what? Nobody was there.
- 41:57Nobody went. You know why?
- 41:59Because they were told by Netflix, if you don't buy into
- 42:03Netflix, you're not going to get the Yankee game and opening day.
- 42:07So that's pathetic, and I'm sorry, as a Yankee fan.
- 42:12And the Yes Network, the Yes Network is one of the biggest
- 42:16networks in the world. It was the first.
- 42:19Network. Ever.
- 42:20Drawn up for professional sports.
- 42:22It was George Steinbrenner that created that and opened the
- 42:25floodgates. Then there was the Cowboy
- 42:26Channel over there. Then it was Jerry Jones that did
- 42:29it. Copycat.
- 42:30Why? Because him and George were
- 42:31very, very close. And then you you.
- 42:35Got a chance to watch the Yankee games, 162 games, no matter
- 42:38where it is, you can watch the Yankee game.
- 42:40Yankee games. Not anymore.
- 42:42Not anymore because they're streaming.
- 42:45You have to. And then it's not just Netflix
- 42:48that are streaming baseball games now.
- 42:50Hulu's going to do. It Disney.
- 42:52'S going to do it. They're all going to freaking do
- 42:54it. Why?
- 42:56Because it's all about money. It's always about money.
- 43:01It's not about the, the love of the game and, and, and, and if I
- 43:05was a player right now, OK, you're, you're, you're
- 43:07negotiating the deal I'm going to take on.
- 43:09They're going to they're making $150 million.
- 43:11What are the players getting out of it?
- 43:14Nothing. Nothing.
- 43:16Not that I've heard. They didn't never get anything
- 43:18out of it. A handshake or something?
- 43:21Why would you want to shake Rob Manford's hand?
- 43:23Though, well, they loved him when he was.
- 43:25Giving out their silver, their silver medals at the WBC.
- 43:29They were hugging him and saying we love you.
- 43:31I I read some of their lips. Thank you.
- 43:34Thank you, Mr. Commissioner. Yeah.
- 43:36Thank you. Thank you for ruining the game.
- 43:38Thank you for making the game a mockery.
- 43:40Thank you for making these deals with stream companies and
- 43:44ruining what baseball is all about.
- 43:47The baseball to me is our pastime.
- 43:50And baseball was the only sport I'm, I'm, I'm telling you this,
- 43:54that hasn't made a mockery of it.
- 43:57Now I'm going to. Say Gary Bettman.
- 43:59Again, is driving in the driver's seat.
- 44:01He's the best commissioner. You know why?
- 44:03Because he's not doing this. He's not doing this.
- 44:07But baseball, I never would have thought that baseball was going
- 44:09to sell out like this, sell out like this.
- 44:12And that's if it was even Bud Selig.
- 44:15If Bud Selig was running baseball, this would never
- 44:17happen, ever happened. And this guy was a used car
- 44:20salesman. It's pathetic.
- 44:24Baseball should be ashamed of themselves.
- 44:26Netflix should be ashamed of themselves.
- 44:29But that's what. Every sport.
- 44:30Every sport. Is going into the streaming
- 44:32work. So it's like adopting AI and all
- 44:35this new advanced technology that we have done.
- 44:37So traditional TV is our degree. It's over with, but I think
- 44:41there's a difference. Quentin, though.
- 44:42With the way that the NHL did it when they expanded from NHL to
- 44:46TNT on an ESPN, they didn't really make it about themselves.
- 44:50They didn't make it about the game as much.
- 44:51Yes, there's some personality, guys like PK Subban and stuff
- 44:54like that, but there's there's not just deterring from the game
- 44:57the way you've seen the MLB and the NBA do it now.
- 45:00NBA went to prime this year and they've obviously gone to some
- 45:03other spots before that. And MLB has gone to Peacock in
- 45:06the past and they're trying to make it away from the game
- 45:08because according to these these deals, oh, the MLB, the younger
- 45:12fans don't want to watch this traditional baseball.
- 45:14So we have to try to make it more fabricated to be more fun
- 45:17and the track of these fans. And that's what they're doing.
- 45:19And this went way too far to do it to doing all these to these
- 45:23cat intros and these these random things that Hunter Pence
- 45:26was doing and all that crap. Like it was too much.
- 45:28Yeah, maybe some organization with it.
- 45:30Especially with the athletes, like athletes should do pre and
- 45:33post show and then let the broadcasters do broadcasting.
- 45:36I didn't let them do the in the game material and give the.
- 45:43There are plenty of plenty of those.
- 45:44Claiming to be throughout that that ceremony, which I'm sure
- 45:47Nathan loved. With all the the.
- 45:48Hot ladies on the cab. Joba was not an athlete.
- 45:51And Joba was not there, luckily. Well, the athlete.
- 45:55As as Nathan would say, that's what you're going to watch the
- 45:58games, That's why you're going to watch the games is because of
- 46:01the athlete, not the extravaganza of Netflix.
- 46:05Having a bunch of so-called dancers dance in front of taxi
- 46:09drivers or taxi cabs. Was there any taxi cab driver in
- 46:13there? I'd be very surprised if there
- 46:15wasn't. There wasn't.
- 46:16And how did they drive that off the field?
- 46:18It was a taxi cab facade. And it was just stupid.
- 46:22It was so dumb. I couldn't believe how dumb it
- 46:25was. I was sitting there with my
- 46:26wife. She they're like, she's like,
- 46:27they're ruining baseball. How are they ruining baseball?
- 46:31And by the way, if you're trying to be hip with the kids, the
- 46:33song leaned back when I was in college and we danced to it in
- 46:37the club. That's 20 years ago.
- 46:39I'm pretty sure it was 2006. The other song they were playing
- 46:44Brain Stew by Green Day, which I love that song as a rock song,
- 46:48but I don't think I've ever seen a person dance to that song in
- 46:50my entire life. And they were like dancing like
- 46:53it was some hip hop song as they were walking out the trolley,
- 46:56which I don't know which one was worse to be honest with you.
- 46:59They the trolley goes up and down San Francisco.
- 47:02I guess it's a more well. I mean, there might be some of
- 47:05that going. On over there too, in that part
- 47:06of the town. Listen, I will say this also.
- 47:09And for all the Yankee fans that watch the game and experienced
- 47:12their first Netflix extravaganza for baseball, do you want to
- 47:16ever see the Yankees on Netflix again?
- 47:19And the answer would be no. And there's a lot of reasons why
- 47:22because it first of all, there was so much backtracking in the
- 47:25game. The game.
- 47:27The game was 3 nothing. And on on your phone, it was
- 47:31still 00 You, you had to. Wait to see.
- 47:35How they got those runs? I had people at work.
- 47:39Telling me earlier today saying, guess what, I couldn't see the
- 47:44game and on my phone they were telling me it was a head and we
- 47:47were it was 00 and it was an embarrassment.
- 47:50And then you have to remember, like there's a whole bunch of
- 47:52people that aren't tech savvy out there that are sports fans.
- 47:56I would say, you know, 50 and up generation.
- 47:58It like a lot of them can't really like get with this.
- 48:01It's just so different. They didn't grow up with it and
- 48:03they weren't adults with either. Now it's like the second-half of
- 48:06their adulthood and all this stuff is changing on them.
- 48:09That's really difficult, but I want to get away from that
- 48:12because we could talk about that all day.
- 48:14Let's just get into baseball and then talk about that.
- 48:15Mets Errol. But see, I want to just
- 48:18compliment CCI, think CC is good.
- 48:20I didn't think anyone else was good.
- 48:22I love CCI, love that podcast he used to do with Ryan Ruko that
- 48:26they did for a couple of years, like R2C2 or something like
- 48:29that. As good as he as he is, you're
- 48:32right. Hunter Pence, who was great when
- 48:34we interviewed him at the Super Bowl a couple years ago with his
- 48:37horses and everything. That was Hunter Pence, by the
- 48:40way. Oh, Jason Werth and he.
- 48:42Was talking. About Hunter Pence in the
- 48:44interview, that's what it was because they were working it
- 48:46together. I got you All right, so.
- 48:48So let's get into. The Mets let's.
- 48:51I know a lot of Met fans were excited.
- 48:53They won 11 to 7. They completely knocked out one
- 48:56of the best pitchers in baseball.
- 48:57And you can't pull schemes is as good as any pitcher in baseball.
- 49:01This guy won the Cy Young last year in the National League.
- 49:04He's special, absolutely special, but.
- 49:08What? Really.
- 49:09Stuck out to me is their kid, and their kid actually got a
- 49:13chance and he got his head. Carson Bench got a chance to
- 49:18start Opening Day with the New York Mets at right field.
- 49:21And some people thought he was going to go to the minors.
- 49:24They're going to wait a couple of weeks because they want to.
- 49:26They want to make sure that they have him for his arbitration,
- 49:29that they can hold on to him for the next 6 years instead of five
- 49:32years. They had to bring this kid up.
- 49:35They had to bring the kid up. This guy was hitting in spring
- 49:39training. He's an all world defensive
- 49:41player. He's got a great arm in the
- 49:43outfield. And what did he do today?
- 49:44He hit a home run. And if you're a Mets fan, you
- 49:48should be excited about that. They're bringing up some young
- 49:50guys. They look like they're going to
- 49:52be studs. Nolan McClain is a stud pitcher,
- 49:55made Team USA for the WBC. Beau Burchett was horrible.
- 50:00He was really bad. I don't expect a lot from Beau
- 50:03Burchett. I, I'm, I'm sorry, No, he, he'll
- 50:06be a good hitter. He'll hit close to 300, but is
- 50:09he going to stay healthy? That's the question.
- 50:11Beau Bichette never stays healthy.
- 50:13So they just signed him to a three-year deal, right?
- 50:16It was three years that he can opt out after his second year.
- 50:19Yeah, it's essentially 3 one year deals.
- 50:21So and if Freddie? Peralta who They made a trade
- 50:25and they traded Sproat and and one of their better hitters in
- 50:28their farm system, Freddie. Peralta did not pitch a good
- 50:32game. Now it's early, it's the first
- 50:34game of the season. You're playing for the Mets, a
- 50:36new franchise. And, and I told this to Josh and
- 50:39I'll say this to all the Mets fans, playing in New York is
- 50:44completely different than playing in Milwaukee.
- 50:48I don't. Care who you are.
- 50:50When you play for The Jets, you pay for the Giants.
- 50:53You play for the Yankees, the Knicks, the Islanders, the
- 50:57Rangers. The media is on you like white
- 51:01on rice. They're always on you.
- 51:06And to me, I remember. When Francisco Lindor.
- 51:10Came He was traded to the New York Mets and his first full
- 51:14season, his first year as a full time Met was horrible.
- 51:19He could not hit a lick. I remember speed.
- 51:21I was going back and forth to Speedy and Speedy told me I
- 51:24don't know if he was worth the money the Mets gave him.
- 51:27It took. Him a little while to figure
- 51:29things out. Juan Soto Juan Soto is just an
- 51:33all world hitter. We know what Juan Soto could do
- 51:35because as a Yankee fan, we saw it.
- 51:38He helped lead the. Yankees all the way to the
- 51:40world. Series and then they he choked
- 51:42well, they choked not him, but they choked so and what I I
- 51:48don't understand, I still don't understand Jorge Polanco is the.
- 51:53First baseman. He started the.
- 51:55Game as the first baseman and Beatty's the designated hitter.
- 51:58But everybody has said that Beatty is a better first
- 52:02baseman. Why wasn't Jorge Polanco as the
- 52:04DH and Beatty playing at first? Because if anybody watch the
- 52:09game, Jorge Polanco did not look good defensively.
- 52:12He did not Pete Alonzo looked better than him, but the Mets
- 52:16didn't decide to extend him and he goes to the Orioles.
- 52:19So, I mean, if you're a Mets fan, if you're standing for what
- 52:23you saw today and saying that they won, that's all that
- 52:26matters. They were blowing out Paul
- 52:28Skeens and this team early in the game.
- 52:32There was no way that the Pittsburgh Steelers was going to
- 52:35put up the Pittsburgh sailors. The Pittsburgh Pirates were
- 52:37going to put up the kind of numbers that the that the Mets
- 52:41were going to put up throughout the day.
- 52:43Because if you cannot pull Skeens out, their bullpen is up
- 52:46and down every single year. Tobias Myers is is a decent
- 52:49pitcher. He's not a great pitcher.
- 52:51But the one guy that I you you you want to hope and you want to
- 52:55believe is going to have a good season is Francisco Alvarez.
- 53:00The Mets need this kid to break out, be the the leader of this
- 53:04team, catch every single pitcher.
- 53:07This year he caught Peralta. Peralta at the end of the game
- 53:11liked the way he was calling the game.
- 53:14So and and, and I know if you're a Freddy Peralta fan, well, he
- 53:16got A7 strikeouts, but he gave up four runs and this guy is
- 53:20going to ask for a significant amount of money in the
- 53:23offseason. Even if the even if the game
- 53:26goes on, strike Freddy Peralta. Is going to be asking for.
- 53:30Over $200 million. This guy is one of the elite
- 53:33pitchers. I like Juan Soto.
- 53:35I know a lot of people think I hate him because he left the
- 53:37Yankees and went to the Mets. Juan Soto is a great player,
- 53:41Alonso to even as good as he was last year and he put his team,
- 53:44put the team on his back. They choked at the end of the
- 53:47season. Lindor wasn't hitting
- 53:50consistently, that's why they brought Beau Bichette, Jorge
- 53:52Blanco and they added some defense, Marcus Simeon.
- 53:55But guess what? They lost Brandon.
- 53:58IMO they. Lost Pete Alonso.
- 54:01It didn't show in game number one.
- 54:02They played the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 54:05They're one of. The worst organizations in.
- 54:07Baseball. That's why Paul Skins wants out.
- 54:10That's why he wants to go to the Yankees.
- 54:13That's the truth. Apparently he's already starting
- 54:15his tank job. That's the truth.
- 54:17I don't think he tried to tank him.
- 54:19I'm kidding. I don't think he.
- 54:20Tried to I. Think that he just had a bad
- 54:23game, couldn't find his location, couldn't find his
- 54:26pitches. That happens to every pitcher,
- 54:29even the. IT also helps.
- 54:31When the center fielder is dog like complete dog shit in center
- 54:34field. O'Neil Cruz, what an athlete.
- 54:36O'Neill Cruz's nobody's not saying great athlete, but he is
- 54:40proof that you cannot just put a great athlete in center field
- 54:44and tell him to go get the ball. He misread 2 balls in the and
- 54:48just screwed over schemes in the first inning.
- 54:50It was really bad. It was the worst, really bad.
- 54:53It was the worst experiment I I saw at center.
- 54:55Field probably since your boy Jazz Chism when he was in Miami,
- 54:58they tried the same thing and it was equally as bad.
- 55:00Why do you guys think that he's my boy again?
- 55:02It was a joke. Thank you Quentin for getting
- 55:05the sarcasm. But.
- 55:06He's not my boy and. I, anybody that calls him my
- 55:09boy, even if it's a joke, I'm going to attack it.
- 55:11He is not my boy. I never liked him.
- 55:14And that's why I call him jazz jism, OK?
- 55:16That's what he is. And I, I, I just make fun of all
- 55:21the different people that we've seen over the years come to
- 55:23these New York teams and absolutely are debacles here.
- 55:27Debacles. And you definitely hope it
- 55:28doesn't get to that. There's one.
- 55:29That's playing as a pitcher for the.
- 55:30Boston Red Sox. Now there's there's another one,
- 55:33I think when? You look at the Mets history,
- 55:35history of the bringing these free agent pitchers in recently,
- 55:37it just doesn't help their system of what they're doing.
- 55:40And hopefully it doesn't get that way with Peralta because it
- 55:42definitely wasn't an ideal thing.
- 55:43Allowing early base runner, allowing home runs, two home
- 55:46runs to Brandon Lau and that kind of thing with 7 strikeouts,
- 55:50yes, but you can't have that kind of consistency all year and
- 55:53be able to face these better teams to make it work.
- 55:55Now as far as the Mets offense goes, they had nine runs without
- 55:58a home run in the game, which was an impressive thing in
- 56:01itself. Like Fish they were even saying
- 56:02it was like the first time in five years that kind of thing
- 56:04happened where you especially in a home run driven era.
- 56:07So you wonder if the approach so far with this Mets lineup is a
- 56:10little different against small sample size are not going to
- 56:12overreact right away. But it's definitely a good thing
- 56:16when all these all these secondary hitters, it wasn't
- 56:18Juan Soda that was lighting it up.
- 56:19It wasn't those guys that were lighting it up.
- 56:21And Bench getting his first Major League home run to get to
- 56:23that 11th spot. That was the icing on the cake.
- 56:26And I will say this, Louise. Robert Junior, everybody says,
- 56:29wow, he had a great game. This is not the same Louise.
- 56:32Robert Junior, you think he is All right, He had one good game.
- 56:36Game number one, This guy couldn't hit a lick last year.
- 56:39A lick now maybe going to another franchise, being
- 56:42protected in the lineup and, and being behind guys like Polanco
- 56:46and Beatty or and being, you know, behind Bichette and and
- 56:50Soto and Lindor, maybe that gives him a better chance of
- 56:53getting getting more pitches. But this guy is not a good
- 56:56hitter. He's one of the worst center
- 56:58fielders as far as offensively sound in all the baseball.
- 57:01The fact that he had two hits, one RBI, the two RBI's and and
- 57:05one run, that's great. You're not going to see
- 57:08consistency. I would have kept Brandon IMO.
- 57:11I I still think you would have gotten Marcus Simeon for
- 57:14something else. You could have gotten Marcus
- 57:15Simeon for a relief pitcher, a good relief pitcher in your farm
- 57:19system, or one of those farmhand guys in your AA that might be
- 57:23good in the future. You did not have to trade
- 57:25Brandon Nimmo. And the reason why they traded
- 57:27Brandon Nimmo was one reason, money, there was actually 2
- 57:30money and he didn't get along with Lindor.
- 57:33And that was that was the story. He did not get along with
- 57:36Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto, while he is a quote UN quote
- 57:40somebody supporter in in the politic world.
- 57:44They didn't like that. So they never got along.
- 57:47A lot of people said that Pete Alonso was not too fond of the
- 57:51way they treated Brandon MO either.
- 57:52So, and a lot of those guys, a lot of people thought that Pete
- 57:56Alonzo wasn't really respected in that, in that locker room as
- 57:59well. So I, I, I don't know, I don't
- 58:02know. There's a lot of things that we
- 58:03don't know. And I'm sure they'll be a bit a
- 58:05book written 20 years from now from Pete Alonzo and Brandon.
- 58:09Maybe they'll, they'll write a book together.
- 58:11They'll they'll reprive the. The The book of the 92 Mets, The
- 58:14worst team money could buy. They'll make a 2025 like locker
- 58:17room drama version of that Lonzi Nim.
- 58:19That's what we'll call it. The documentary Lonzi Nim Alonzi
- 58:24Limp they yeah, they limped to the yen and then.
- 58:27Completely broke. Somebody's got a limp, right?
- 58:30All the way. They all, they all did last.
- 58:31Season, believe me, what we're. I'd like to see Quinton run now,
- 58:35you know, I don't know if he can run as fast as he did when he
- 58:38was on a football field. Very much so, really.
- 58:41What do you think you can run? In a 40 right now, right now,
- 58:44right now, what do? You think no training?
- 58:46Yeah. No training.
- 58:48Probably about like 4. 65 really, you could still run.
- 58:52In a 465, I'd like to see that. I'd like to see that, yeah.
- 58:56I mean, just come down to. Georgia, I'll show you.
- 58:59Oh, so I got to come down to Georgia.
- 59:00You don't. Want to come up here to New
- 59:01York? I got to go down.
