- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcasts Getting Up Everybody, It's NHL un Tripped, coming at
- 0:23Speaker 1: you twice a week during the playoffs. Got a great
- 0:25Speaker 1: show for it, to say Tyler Toffoley, who was a
- 0:28Speaker 1: thirty goal scorp the San Jose Sharks friend of Jason N. Burrs.
- 0:31Speaker 1: On the podcast today, Tyler tells us not only about
- 0:34Speaker 1: the season you having San Jose, also playing with MacLean
- 0:36Speaker 1: Celbrady and Will Smith, but also being the wife of
- 0:39Speaker 1: Kat Taffoley, who has your own very special podcast, plus
- 0:43Speaker 1: a yeah that's definitely true, and as made the fourth
- 0:48Speaker 1: be with you past tal chimes, and whether or not
- 0:50Speaker 1: Star Wars is aged poorly. We also talked about the
- 0:53Speaker 1: draft lottery and sending our best of Tory crew were
- 0:56Speaker 1: kicking off JD with the Toronto may Beliefs. I said
- 0:58Speaker 1: you at the start of the series, I said, this
- 1:00Speaker 1: is gonna be the best series. You go, really, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: think Florida's gonna take care of business. I go, well,
- 1:04Speaker 1: we'll see leaves straight zero. Ask tal Tell that I did
- 1:08Speaker 1: not say to me this is gonna be eight thousand.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Tell's not gonna be I said this ConA be a
- 1:11Speaker 1: great series, and you were skeptically like, I don't see it.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I go I'm calling Florida whim. I think the LEAs
- 1:15Speaker 1: are gonna get all they can handle. And they took
- 1:17Speaker 1: Game one five to four Monday night. The big story,
- 1:20Speaker 1: course is the same Bennett collision of Anthony Stollart's is
- 1:23Speaker 1: they're vomiting. He goes to the Stretcher local hospital. No
- 1:26Speaker 1: supplementary disciplined for Bennett. Still Arts did not play in
- 1:29Speaker 1: Game two. No wordy when he could be back. But
- 1:31Speaker 1: Joseph Woolves, we just saw it tonight recording this on
- 1:34Speaker 1: a Wednesday night. He gets the start, different goalies, same result.
- 1:37Speaker 1: The Leafs are up two to ohero on the Panthers
- 1:39Speaker 1: five for the final. And how about this stat They
- 1:42Speaker 1: now hold a two oh series lead in two different
- 1:45Speaker 1: playoff series in the same postseason, first time since nineteen
- 1:48Speaker 1: sixty three?
- 1:49Speaker 2: What say you? Max Patcherretti?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Max Patcherretti six points in three games, Ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Who would have thunk it? Who would have thunk it?
- 2:02Speaker 3: This guy was scratched, comes back, can't and he is
- 2:05Speaker 3: just electric factory.
- 2:07Speaker 4: No.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I watched this game Joseph Fall, you can't say enough
- 2:12Speaker 3: good things about him coming in, Anthony Stillers is injured,
- 2:15Speaker 3: comes in. I think everybody thought the same thing I did,
- 2:19Speaker 3: other than you ad Nan that you know there's they
- 2:22Speaker 3: could be in trouble. And Joseph Wall comes in and
- 2:24Speaker 3: just pitches a great game. I know Toronto only had
- 2:29Speaker 3: twenty shots. They kind of got out worked and dominated
- 2:33Speaker 3: a little bit by the Florida Panthers, but Joseph Old
- 2:36Speaker 3: stands tall and all of a sudden, they it's looking
- 2:40Speaker 3: like a Toronto Maple Leafs team that could go deep
- 2:43Speaker 3: into this playoffs.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And we I've had, I feel like, going ahead of ourselves,
- 2:46Speaker 1: come on out of.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Losing every round and then you're you're kind of bullish
- 2:49Speaker 3: on them tal as well. But I've I've been kind
- 2:52Speaker 3: of I'm like, this team doesn't have it, and then
- 2:55Speaker 3: I'm watching these games, I'm like, they got they got
- 2:57Speaker 3: the answer for everything right now, and it's just kind
- 2:59Speaker 3: of one of those years where could it be the
- 3:03Speaker 3: Toronto Apleafs do it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You were right to be skeptical because if you look
- 3:06Speaker 1: at the sessions has never come through. But my only
- 3:08Speaker 1: thought was if not this year, then went with Craig
- 3:10Speaker 1: brew Be a great coach and improved defensive corps. Obviously,
- 3:13Speaker 1: Walda Stollart's a question Mark expecially said they answered the
- 3:16Speaker 1: bell so far, and look at who score you mentioned Patriory.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You have to have some of the supporting cast, right,
- 3:20Speaker 1: can't just be Matthews and Nielander and Martka through but six,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Patrick Domei had a goal to assist Kneeland, and Riley
- 3:27Speaker 1: had a couple of assists. Martr scores a tie breaking goal.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I mean, listen, hey, slick Willy with five goals in
- 3:35Speaker 3: three games is pretty nasty. Ever since, and here's the thing,
- 3:40Speaker 3: Mike Rubb, fan of the show nice Shit, talk to
- 3:43Speaker 3: Willie Nielander before game six again in the Ottawa series,
- 3:47Speaker 3: and he said, he said, William Neelander and we can
- 3:50Speaker 3: go back, Hey, fans, go back and look at it.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He said, William Leelander kind of is not caring and
- 3:56Speaker 3: is not trying hard enough. Since then, since that call
- 3:59Speaker 3: up by Mike Rubb, five goals in three games called
- 4:03Speaker 3: out Slick Quillie, and Slick Willy said, you know what, yeah, Nay,
- 4:09Speaker 3: suck it, Microp.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know a series cannot be made till the series
- 4:13Speaker 1: shifts to Florida. I can't imagine how Florida doesn't win
- 4:15Speaker 1: Game three, but I want to have tal stots. Are
- 4:18Speaker 1: you surprised the Leafs now hold a two zero commanding lead, I.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Mean, am I surprised? Yes, but the series is far
- 4:26Speaker 5: from over. I think even most Leafs fans would say
- 4:29Speaker 5: that they've been through enough heartache to not get too
- 4:32Speaker 5: high on this thing just yet.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I means till the home team loses a game. Yeah, Florida.
- 4:37Speaker 5: There were two to one goal games. Florida was in
- 4:40Speaker 5: both games. They out shot Toronto tonight this, yeah, I
- 4:45Speaker 5: Florida's been there. They've been They've been in every playoff
- 4:48Speaker 5: situation you can imagine. I don't think they're even that phase.
- 4:51Speaker 5: I'm sure they're not happy about this, but they're going
- 4:54Speaker 5: to their home arena. I know some people who are
- 4:56Speaker 5: going to be at those games who are gonna be
- 4:58Speaker 5: ready to they'll be ready to lift the roof.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Off the mother So you know, ye, yeah, it happens
- 5:03Speaker 1: a Game three.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Let's see what happens in game three.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Hey, they take this is you could this is the
- 5:09Speaker 5: big Game three is the biggest game of the season
- 5:10Speaker 5: for the Leafs. They go up three nothing in this yeraries,
- 5:12Speaker 5: Oh my god, God riding some serious momentum.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Hey and let's let's all let's say something here. Barovsky
- 5:21Speaker 3: has not been great in this series. Has not been great.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Nine goals to two games so far.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Not been good.
- 5:28Speaker 3: They have figured out, Yeah, Yearling, they have figured him out.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Continue tell I love your suit.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Major statement within the Oilers. In the road game one
- 5:40Speaker 1: against the Golden Knights, the Oilers scored four straight goals,
- 5:43Speaker 1: got two huge ones laid from Zach Himan and Connor
- 5:46Speaker 1: Brown four to win for their fifth straight win. You
- 5:49Speaker 1: do text to be the tweet there, JD. Edmonton the
- 5:51Speaker 1: first team in history five straight come from behind wins
- 5:55Speaker 1: in a single postseason and depth scoring has been a
- 5:58Speaker 1: major strength. If ever, there was one that you and
- 6:00Speaker 1: I got wrong. We both called the Kings to win,
- 6:03Speaker 1: we both called Vegas to win. And as you said,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm with you. If the Oilers win this series, I'm
- 6:07Speaker 1: not betting against them again. They win this series. They're
- 6:09Speaker 1: winning the Stanley Cup. It's been a great story.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It's the Edmundton Oilers are just defying the odds. Calvin
- 6:16Speaker 3: Pickard is the greatest goalie of all time, give your number.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I've sure grand Fear not since grand Fear has a
- 6:23Speaker 3: goalie went five to zero in the playoffs. They are
- 6:25Speaker 3: doing it in every single way possible. And here's the thing,
- 6:30Speaker 3: it's not it was the same thing that happened last year.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It wasn't because everybody's saying Connor Leon, that's the guys,
- 6:37Speaker 3: that's the only way you can win. They're winning with
- 6:39Speaker 3: the depth scoring. That's the way they have an opportunity
- 6:42Speaker 3: to go deep in the playoffs. They're doing the same
- 6:44Speaker 3: thing they did last year. John Klingbird's looked very good.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Calvin Pickard has done his job and given them over
- 6:51Speaker 3: nine hundred goaltending. And when they are over nine hundred goaltending,
- 6:54Speaker 3: they are very very solid as a team. And it's
- 6:57Speaker 3: just one of those it's this weird it's the same
- 7:00Speaker 3: thing as Toronto right now, where you're like looking at
- 7:02Speaker 3: them and you're like, let's how the hell are they
- 7:06Speaker 3: doing this?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Right now?
- 7:07Speaker 3: They're just against all odds, they're putting together these wins
- 7:11Speaker 3: and they're just very resilient. And it goes back to
- 7:15Speaker 3: what we said when we had this viral clip on
- 7:18Speaker 3: Instagram when we said a Canadian team is going to
- 7:21Speaker 3: win the Stanley Cup this year, and Nan Verk, I
- 7:24Speaker 3: think we are gonna fucking do it.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You're gonna fucking do it the Canadian teams. We're gonna push.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Hey, it's a viral clip over one hundred and seventy
- 7:33Speaker 3: five thousand views on Instagram.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We are going to do it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I think the Canadian teams have heard our cries, they
- 7:40Speaker 3: have heard are pleas, and they are gonna get us
- 7:42Speaker 3: the w we need it.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Come on, you're generous to include me. But this was
- 7:47Speaker 1: all you. You said it. I stend all right, gid
- 7:49Speaker 1: you sure you like I'm calling it? Yeah?
- 7:50Speaker 2: I don't want it.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I wanted I wanted it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: You were boldr Men's warehouse suit.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Right now, we're like Harry Rosen. In the meantime, Jacob
- 8:02Speaker 1: Slavin gives the Hurricanes a serious lead and overtime against
- 8:05Speaker 1: the Capitals. I was watching from the third period on
- 8:07Speaker 1: and the stat that blew me away. So Carolina outshot
- 8:10Speaker 1: Washington thirty three to fourteen. But like chances, like just
- 8:14Speaker 1: attempts was ninety three, Like it was insane. It was
- 8:18Speaker 1: plus sixty in favorite Carolina. I only have ever saved
- 8:20Speaker 1: just chances shot attempts this year is gonna go at
- 8:24Speaker 1: least six, probably seven.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Well, it's it's kind of what And listen, we talked
- 8:30Speaker 3: about this before. What plagued Washington against Montreal was that
- 8:34Speaker 3: they're a little bit Laxaday's ago coming out of their
- 8:36Speaker 3: own end, and if they get four checked hard enough,
- 8:39Speaker 3: they will create turnovers. And Carolina did just that. Their
- 8:42Speaker 3: four check got there, They got there in a hurry.
- 8:45Speaker 3: They created turnovers, they created offensive's own time, they created
- 8:48Speaker 3: shot attempts, and that is what Carolina does. And I
- 8:50Speaker 3: feel like they just Washington doesn't match up well against
- 8:54Speaker 3: Carolina in that respect. The only difference and the only
- 8:58Speaker 3: advantage they have is goaltending with Logan Thompson versus Freddie Anderson.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And you could see that it resulted in a two
- 9:05Speaker 3: to one win for Carolina in overtime. It was a
- 9:07Speaker 3: very tight game. And that goal by Jacob Slavan is
- 9:10Speaker 3: a seeing eye shot from the point. It wasn't anything crazy,
- 9:12Speaker 3: It wasn't like a big scoring chance. But Carolina just
- 9:15Speaker 3: kind of beats you down. They beat you down. It's
- 9:17Speaker 3: just a bunch of shots from all over the place.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I don't I think this series still goes a long
- 9:23Speaker 3: time and goes more than six and possibly seven. But
- 9:28Speaker 3: Washington needs way more urgency coming out of their own end.
- 9:30Speaker 3: They had that kind of laxa day's goal attitude against
- 9:33Speaker 3: Montreal on it and listen, even though they beat Montreal handedly,
- 9:37Speaker 3: that series could have been way tighter than it was.
- 9:39Speaker 3: And Carolina is kind of exposing them the same way
- 9:41Speaker 3: that Montreal did on the Ford checks. So they need
- 9:43Speaker 3: to move the puck a little bit quicker and they're
- 9:45Speaker 3: gonna get some more opportunities. And I think they have
- 9:48Speaker 3: a better team overall than Carolina. So but I took
- 9:51Speaker 3: Carolina to win the series. So I gotta be happy
- 9:55Speaker 3: because Jordan Martinik will not be mad at us.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, this could be your upset special. Yeah yeah, no
- 9:59Speaker 1: matter how your record has been, if you call the
- 10:01Speaker 1: Hurricanes with the capitals not many perks, I will that
- 10:03Speaker 1: will be deem I'll give you.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I said, if they get by Montreal, not Montreal, New Jersey,
- 10:10Speaker 3: by New Jersey, they could be Washington. They matchup well
- 10:13Speaker 3: against Washington. But I Digress and Stars and Jets. I mean, listen,
- 10:18Speaker 3: everyone here is focused on the roster report. Jason Robertson
- 10:21Speaker 3: returning for Dallas, his first game since April sixteenth.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Miroe. Hayskin, not back yet for Dallas, is expected back
- 10:27Speaker 1: for the series. For Winnipeg, Mark Shipley's back, Josh Morrissey,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Logan Stanley's still out. But the point is this Ranson
- 10:34Speaker 1: and doing Ranson and this guy he is putting on.
- 10:37Speaker 2: His show for the ages right now.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean fourteen points in his last eleven periods.
- 10:42Speaker 3: At last check, we all sat here, all of us.
- 10:47Speaker 3: There's not one person in this industry that did not
- 10:51Speaker 3: ship talk Miko ran in and he is shoving it
- 10:55Speaker 3: up all of our you.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Know what, we're getting bent over here.
- 10:59Speaker 3: We're all getting bent over. It's not one, it's not two,
- 11:02Speaker 3: it's not three, it's not four. It's infinite bendovers by
- 11:06Speaker 3: Mico Randon. Because there is not one person. I don't
- 11:08Speaker 3: give a I don't give a flying hoot. Everybody should
- 11:12Speaker 3: talk Miko Randon. Since that trade, every single person at
- 11:16Speaker 3: one point or another said Miko Randon is not great.
- 11:19Speaker 2: He was an.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Overrated He's dogging it with them exactly.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Hey, for the most part, we were right until about
- 11:25Speaker 3: Game four of the first round, and he has just
- 11:29Speaker 3: shoved it and he has just said, hey, you know what,
- 11:32Speaker 3: watch me, watch me. Hey, who's the captain now? I'm
- 11:36Speaker 3: the captain now, Captain Phillip Hey, Captain Phillip, Tom Hanks,
- 11:40Speaker 3: Cinephile in sixty No, Captain Phillips, I'm the captain now.
- 11:45Speaker 3: And this is Mekorandon freaking hat trick. This guy is
- 11:49Speaker 3: so good. He's so strong. Again we talked about it
- 11:53Speaker 3: last episode. He's he's in elite company in all time
- 11:58Speaker 3: playoffs scoring with eighty games played minimum. He's an elite company.
- 12:02Speaker 3: It's him, Nathan mccannon, Connor McDavid, and then it is
- 12:07Speaker 3: Mary Lemiue and Wayne Gretzky. It's those five that is
- 12:10Speaker 3: something so special, and it is not appreciated enough by
- 12:15Speaker 3: the collective in this industry that he's done this much.
- 12:18Speaker 3: And I'm one of them that didn't appreciate it because
- 12:21Speaker 3: I thought, you know what, this guy wanted too much money.
- 12:25Speaker 2: He sucks. He does not suck.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He is unbelievable, and he's dominating in these playoffs right now.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah, points per game in the playoffs, been in eighty games.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He's been as good as anyone in the history of
- 12:36Speaker 1: the league, which is something to say one more thought here,
- 12:39Speaker 1: non playoff related. The King's announcing Tuesday general manager Rob
- 12:43Speaker 1: Blake lea demon decided to quote mutually part ways a
- 12:46Speaker 1: first one EXE against the Oiler's fourth straight season. Team
- 12:50Speaker 1: president Luke Robotiz said Tuesday he expects head coach Jim
- 12:52Speaker 1: Hiller to remain behind the King's bench. I'm sure Blake's
- 12:56Speaker 1: a great guy, obviously, I have great respect from him
- 12:57Speaker 1: May's Hounds on the ice. But something that had the
- 13:00Speaker 1: game here, Jad, you lose four straight teams to the
- 13:02Speaker 1: four straight times, excuse me, to the same team. Something's
- 13:04Speaker 1: gonna give.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you lose four straight times to the team that
- 13:09Speaker 3: has not won the Cup. So that goes to show
- 13:12Speaker 3: you if the team won the Cup, you could have
- 13:14Speaker 3: kind of said, we're not far off, but they have
- 13:16Speaker 3: not won a Cup yet.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So you are.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You are miles away, you are the Milky Way away,
- 13:23Speaker 3: you are Andromeda away, you are galaxies and light years away.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I think Mark Bergerman I heard, is kind of the
- 13:31Speaker 3: front runner for this. They need to change a lot.
- 13:35Speaker 3: I could see a cop Patar, I could see a
- 13:36Speaker 3: Dowdy moving.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I think Dowdy thirty six to your point, I think I.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Think they're going to rebuild mode. I think they need to.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I think you need to prioritize what you have. I
- 13:46Speaker 3: don't think you're gonna get passed Edmonton or whoever with
- 13:50Speaker 3: the roster you have right now. You could say that
- 13:53Speaker 3: maybe it was a luck of the draw and just
- 13:54Speaker 3: didn't line up, but you just did not have a
- 13:56Speaker 3: good enough roster to get through. So there needs to
- 13:59Speaker 3: be some changes. They need to make some moves. And
- 14:02Speaker 3: you know, it starts with Rob Blake and I love
- 14:04Speaker 3: He's my first captain, one of the best captains ever
- 14:07Speaker 3: had in my career and just an amazing human being.
- 14:10Speaker 3: But yeah, they need to make severe changes to this team,
- 14:14Speaker 3: and they need to really finally just say, you know what,
- 14:17Speaker 3: if we don't make the playoffs next year, it's fine,
- 14:19Speaker 3: but we are making a categorical change that is going to.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Affect the very bedrock.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Of this franchise so we can win a Cup or
- 14:28Speaker 3: get close to winning a Cup.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, in terms of changes to make you mentioned the
- 14:32Speaker 1: fact that Coopatar's getting long in the two, as is Dowdy,
- 14:35Speaker 1: But you've got guys like Kempy and Byfield you can
- 14:38Speaker 1: build on. I mean, Kemper is a Veza Trophy finalist.
- 14:40Speaker 1: So in terms of what you need to get over
- 14:42Speaker 1: the hump, would you say an infusion of talent upfront
- 14:45Speaker 1: or more of the guards to the back end?
- 14:47Speaker 3: Oh, your back end is a lot of the same
- 14:50Speaker 3: D men. You know, you got Bran Clark and Dowdy
- 14:53Speaker 3: that are I mean, Dowdy's a lot like Gavicoffee's a
- 14:56Speaker 3: lot like Edmondson, He's a lot like Mike Anderson. The
- 14:59Speaker 3: only offensive, pure offensive player you have is Bran Clark
- 15:03Speaker 3: and he's not the fleetest foot So they needed they
- 15:06Speaker 3: need some D men goaltending. I think Darcy Campers is great.
- 15:10Speaker 3: He's a good goalie to have. And then up front
- 15:12Speaker 3: you need you know, you got Adrian Kempy, you got Phildono,
- 15:15Speaker 3: you got Yeah. I just think it's you're getting a
- 15:18Speaker 3: little old. You gotta go young. You got to try
- 15:20Speaker 3: to find a way to just spark this team. And
- 15:25Speaker 3: you know you can't go against Sanminton Ollers with the
- 15:28Speaker 3: team that you have, You're not gonna win.
- 15:29Speaker 2: So I think they're it's so tough.
- 15:33Speaker 3: It's such a fine line in the NHL, and and
- 15:36Speaker 3: you think you look at these teams and You're like,
- 15:37Speaker 3: you're so close, you can beat the Edmonton Oys, but
- 15:39Speaker 3: they're so far because you can tweak things here and there,
- 15:44Speaker 3: but they.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Just four straight years.
- 15:46Speaker 3: It's it's it proves that they do not have enough
- 15:50Speaker 3: to win a Stanley Cup because they can't even beat
- 15:52Speaker 3: the Invant Oilers, who have not won a Stanley Cup.
- 15:54Speaker 3: They lost in the finals. Yes they were close, they
- 15:58Speaker 3: went to Game seven, but they have not. They have
- 16:01Speaker 3: lost to a team that has never won a Stanley Cup.
- 16:04Speaker 3: So that's how far they are there far?
- 16:07Speaker 1: And one last thought here, by the way, on the Stars,
- 16:09Speaker 1: Jets came rans to a natural hat trick tonight, the
- 16:11Speaker 1: first playoff Natty Hattie in the Star's history. If this
- 16:14Speaker 1: guy's unbelievable still to come. Here, an nhl and scriptor
- 16:16Speaker 1: is speaking of unbelievable Tyler to Foley, You're gonna love
- 16:19Speaker 1: him his thoughts and the Sharks that great young cores
- 16:21Speaker 1: plus a wife who might be more famous than him.
- 16:23Speaker 1: It's coming up next after this Here, an nhl and
- 16:25Speaker 1: scripted Our next guest, drafted forty seventh overall on the
- 16:41Speaker 1: twenty ten NHL is rapped by the Los Angeles Kings.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He won the Stanley Cup with the team in twenty fourteen.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Since then, he has played for the Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadians,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devil's, Winnipeg Jets, and San Jose Sharks.
- 16:54Speaker 1: He was the leading goalscorer last season on a Shark's
- 16:57Speaker 1: team that is one of the most exciting young up
- 16:59Speaker 1: and coming teams in the league. Ladies and gentlemen, Tyler Toffoley,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Tyler's great to see it, man, welcome to unscripted.
- 17:04Speaker 4: What's going on?
- 17:05Speaker 2: That was a long list of teams, suitcase, just a
- 17:11Speaker 2: distinguished career.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Let's start current them before we go back through all
- 17:15Speaker 1: those different teams and jog your memory. But now you
- 17:17Speaker 1: have time to look back. How would you look at
- 17:19Speaker 1: this Shark season? No bra And again, I know you're
- 17:21Speaker 1: a team player, but particularly for yourself being the leading
- 17:23Speaker 1: goals score How cool was that?
- 17:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:25Speaker 6: I mean, I you know, you got to you gotta
- 17:27Speaker 6: be happy. And for myself, I always come in every
- 17:30Speaker 6: season and expect myself to score thirty goals and definitely
- 17:35Speaker 6: some ups and downs this season, but I found a
- 17:37Speaker 6: way to get there. And definitely credit to UH to
- 17:40Speaker 6: the guys. You know it feels like kind of cliche
- 17:42Speaker 6: to say, but you know, guys like you know, Macklin
- 17:46Speaker 6: stepping up and playing big minutes once once they traded
- 17:49Speaker 6: Granny and played with Wenberg a lot too, and he's
- 17:52Speaker 6: a very easy guy to play with. So definitely some
- 17:55Speaker 6: fun times on a on a team that didn't win
- 17:58Speaker 6: very games, but definitely things to look forward to in
- 18:00Speaker 6: the future.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Talk a little bit about, you know, the leadership role
- 18:04Speaker 3: you took on, you know, obviously specifically with Macklin and Will,
- 18:08Speaker 3: but you know, you're a different kind of leader. You're
- 18:10Speaker 3: a little bit more like myself, more light around the room,
- 18:12Speaker 3: and you want guys have fun and be relaxed, and
- 18:15Speaker 3: when it's time to play, you going hard. But like,
- 18:17Speaker 3: how was it for you to step into that role
- 18:19Speaker 3: of leader and really kind of usher in this new
- 18:23Speaker 3: wave of young Sharks.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it definitely was different. I've normally been on a
- 18:27Speaker 6: team with older guys and guys that have seen it
- 18:31Speaker 6: and done it more than me, So for me to
- 18:34Speaker 6: come in, I knew it was going to be, you know,
- 18:35Speaker 6: a different experience, but definitely had a lot of meetings
- 18:38Speaker 6: with Warzo and he was trying to get me to
- 18:40Speaker 6: you know, be more vocal and be harder.
- 18:43Speaker 4: On guys in a different way.
- 18:44Speaker 6: I've always kind of been that guy to be like
- 18:46Speaker 6: all right, you know, like we'll get them next shift
- 18:48Speaker 6: sort of thing, whereas this year it was like more
- 18:51Speaker 6: kind of you know, you know, the f us and
- 18:54Speaker 6: it wasn't in.
- 18:55Speaker 4: A bad way.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Fuck It's great.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Yeah, like the kind of like a fuck you sort
- 18:58Speaker 6: of thing, especially you know with Macklin.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I was trying to.
- 19:03Speaker 6: With and with will you know, just like things in
- 19:05Speaker 6: the power play and not turning pucks over and just
- 19:07Speaker 6: like little things at that that makes you become a
- 19:10Speaker 6: winning hockey team. And I think they understood it and
- 19:13Speaker 6: and throughout the year definitely got a lot better with it.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Did you ever, I just wanted to did you ever
- 19:19Speaker 3: have a moment for you to be like hey, kid, like,
- 19:21Speaker 3: because you know, Maclin comes in and you know I
- 19:24Speaker 3: got to see doing radio stuff and kind of see
- 19:27Speaker 3: it behind the scenes, but like he's like want wanted
- 19:29Speaker 3: to control of the team and wants control of the
- 19:31Speaker 3: team like now like he's one of those guys he's
- 19:34Speaker 3: you can see it, and you know it, was there
- 19:38Speaker 3: ever a moment where you're like hey, kid, like walk
- 19:40Speaker 3: before you can run, and just like, you know, we'll
- 19:42Speaker 3: get you through this. Learn from us a little bit
- 19:44Speaker 3: and and uh, you know, because he's just so good
- 19:47Speaker 3: on the ice, but learning all the little nuances in
- 19:49Speaker 3: the NHL takes time, as you know.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely, And I think at the same time, he's
- 19:53Speaker 6: not used to losing, and yeah, I'm not used to
- 19:57Speaker 6: losing as much as we did this season, so it
- 19:58Speaker 6: was definitely frustrating. So I think at the end of
- 20:02Speaker 6: the end of the day, that's kind of what it
- 20:04Speaker 6: sort of came down to, was more not being a
- 20:10Speaker 6: bad leader or a good leader, but the frustration.
- 20:13Speaker 4: And losing hockey games.
- 20:14Speaker 6: And I think at the start of the year, and
- 20:16Speaker 6: you watch us kind of more than anyone we were
- 20:19Speaker 6: in so many games at the start of the year
- 20:21Speaker 6: that if, in my opinion, if we had won those games,
- 20:25Speaker 6: I don't think that guys would have been traded. I
- 20:27Speaker 6: think we would have kind of built off of that.
- 20:30Speaker 6: And I'm not saying we would have, you know, been
- 20:32Speaker 6: a wildcard team or anything, but I'm saying that we
- 20:34Speaker 6: would have won a lot more games and we would
- 20:37Speaker 6: have been able to have more experience in winning. Whereas
- 20:40Speaker 6: I think We started the season losing ten in a
- 20:42Speaker 6: row or whatever it ended up being, and we should
- 20:46Speaker 6: have won in my opinion, four of them, so you know,
- 20:48Speaker 6: you go four and six, that's a completely different story.
- 20:51Speaker 6: And we ended up winning and kind of going on
- 20:54Speaker 6: a little bit of a role and at one point
- 20:56Speaker 6: we were like, you know, eight points, six points out
- 20:58Speaker 6: of wildcard spot, and then the trade deadline kind of happened,
- 21:02Speaker 6: and that's when you you lose getys to, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 6: teams that are looking to contend.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You mentioned Warso your coach, Ryan warsofs he's only four
- 21:10Speaker 1: years older than you. It makes me think about Stu
- 21:12Speaker 1: Grimson back with the Hartford Whalers. Paul Maurice was thirty
- 21:15Speaker 1: years old and Stu was like, I'm almost as old
- 21:16Speaker 1: as this guy. Can't listen to him. What's your dynamic
- 21:19Speaker 1: like with Ryan?
- 21:20Speaker 6: Yeah, it definitely got a lot better throughout the season.
- 21:23Speaker 6: I think it was just it was funny. He was
- 21:25Speaker 6: definitely really really hard on me and a couple of
- 21:28Speaker 6: the older guys early on in the season, and he
- 21:31Speaker 6: had mentioned that he was going to do it but
- 21:33Speaker 6: just to kind of show to you know, everybody and
- 21:35Speaker 6: the younger guys that you know, anybody, everybody's up. You know,
- 21:39Speaker 6: you mess up, you're gonna get in trouble, like kind
- 21:42Speaker 6: of holding everybody accountable. And I think at one point
- 21:45Speaker 6: I kind of made a joke in the locker room
- 21:46Speaker 6: and I'm like, why.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Is this guy fucking yelling at me?
- 21:49Speaker 6: I'm almost as old as them, and the boys loved it,
- 21:52Speaker 6: and it was kind of like the running joke for
- 21:53Speaker 6: a little bit.
- 21:54Speaker 4: With the guys. And but you know, you know what, it.
- 21:58Speaker 6: Is true, like everybody has to be held accountable and
- 22:01Speaker 6: nobody is better than anyone. And I always go back
- 22:04Speaker 6: to playing for Darryl Sutter, and you know, every single
- 22:08Speaker 6: every guy was was held accountable. If you if you
- 22:10Speaker 6: turn it over or you you know, didn't get the pucking,
- 22:13Speaker 6: didn't matter if you were you know, me as a
- 22:15Speaker 6: as a rookie or.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Kopy.
- 22:18Speaker 6: You know, Kope was still going to be on the video.
- 22:20Speaker 6: So I think that kind of goes a long way.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Uh.
- 22:23Speaker 3: You know, we got to talk about the Demon Twins.
- 22:26Speaker 3: They're celebreeding and Smith. Uh, you know, you kind of
- 22:29Speaker 3: mentored them for much of the year and and probably
- 22:33Speaker 3: much to your you know, dismay at times, especially when
- 22:37Speaker 3: things are going tough, and you see these kids walking
- 22:39Speaker 3: in together just like you know, glued at the hip.
- 22:41Speaker 3: What what's their routine like? And like what's it like
- 22:44Speaker 3: to kind of sit back and watch these two kids
- 22:46Speaker 3: that that probably reminded you of yourself kind of coming
- 22:48Speaker 3: to the league.
- 22:49Speaker 6: I mean, their their game day routine is is is
- 22:52Speaker 6: great and honestly better than mine's ever been and uh
- 22:56Speaker 6: mine is now, to be honest, Like they kind of
- 22:58Speaker 6: they do their warm up, they play a little bit,
- 23:00Speaker 6: a little bit of soccer, and then they you know,
- 23:02Speaker 6: like Max sweating before you putting his gear on, and
- 23:05Speaker 6: I'm I'm looking at him like I kicked the ball
- 23:06Speaker 6: around for like five minutes and I'm and I'm going
- 23:10Speaker 6: out there and using the warm up on the ice
- 23:13Speaker 6: as my warm up, which you know when we played,
- 23:15Speaker 6: that's kind of how it was. And so yeah, no,
- 23:18Speaker 6: they're doing they're doing all that stuff and on the
- 23:20Speaker 6: ice for warm up, they're getting and getting all their
- 23:23Speaker 6: work in and even pregame skate they're always and I
- 23:25Speaker 6: don't think it's because they're young, but they they're always
- 23:29Speaker 6: you know, the first guys on and the last guys off.
- 23:31Speaker 6: And I think that's just like the way they are
- 23:33Speaker 6: and the and the way that they kind of compete
- 23:35Speaker 6: with each other, which in my opinion is awesome because
- 23:38Speaker 6: when I came in, it was me and Pearson, and
- 23:41Speaker 6: you know, it's like the the in house kind of
- 23:44Speaker 6: rival that you want to do better then, but you also,
- 23:48Speaker 6: you know, you're also best friends with them, So yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 6: it's it's a great healthy competition, and I think it's
- 23:53Speaker 6: great for them.
- 23:54Speaker 3: They didn't like each other, well, Mac din like, well
- 23:57Speaker 3: right when they played against each other in college.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I feel like.
- 23:59Speaker 6: Mac doesn't really get along with anybody he plays against,
- 24:02Speaker 6: you know, like he's just like so competitive. It's just
- 24:05Speaker 6: like but he relaxed a little bit, you know, like
- 24:07Speaker 6: and he's at the Worlds right now. I've texted him
- 24:10Speaker 6: a couple of times and he's like he's like, dude,
- 24:12Speaker 6: Like Sid came, I'm gonna be on the fourth line.
- 24:14Speaker 6: I'm like, just watch Sid and just like let it happen.
- 24:17Speaker 2: You know, it's like, come on, kid.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Like like it's like Sid and Factor and I can't
- 24:22Speaker 6: remember there's another guy.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Who's maybe Haate Nate McKinnon.
- 24:26Speaker 6: And Nate's going now, yeah, so who knows what the
- 24:29Speaker 6: lines are going? To be, but like just you soak
- 24:32Speaker 6: it in and and their team looks like their teams
- 24:34Speaker 6: stacked now, So like just just play and you know,
- 24:38Speaker 6: have fun because that tournament is so.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Much fun and enjoyed. Watch watch Sid, watch Nate, watch.
- 24:43Speaker 6: These guys and then you know, come back and do
- 24:48Speaker 6: it in the season.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's cool to mark Andre Fleury. By the way,
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's gonna have one more little Sarawell twit there as well.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's Flower over there. So as you said, it's a
- 24:54Speaker 1: cool turning. I want to ask you to for that
- 24:56Speaker 1: wild run of the Cup final, the Montreal Canadians playing
- 24:59Speaker 1: an empty arenas and most of the playoffs during COVID,
- 25:02Speaker 1: how surreal was that.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You know what it was?
- 25:05Speaker 6: It was so funny because especially just like going in
- 25:09Speaker 6: we we weren't like in the playoff spot I think
- 25:12Speaker 6: we had to win. I think we ended up clinching
- 25:14Speaker 6: with like two or three games left something like that,
- 25:16Speaker 6: and guys were kind of banged up, and then we
- 25:18Speaker 6: made it. We ended up being down to Toronto. Obviously,
- 25:22Speaker 6: no one thought that we were gonna be Toronto. We
- 25:25Speaker 6: were down three to one, ended up beating them in
- 25:27Speaker 6: seven whatever it was, and after that, it just things
- 25:30Speaker 6: just kind of started to roll and we had so
- 25:32Speaker 6: much fun.
- 25:33Speaker 4: We had We had, you know, a few older guys,
- 25:36Speaker 4: webs carry, we had warm you.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Know, buzzing like he's still buzzing right now, which is insane.
- 25:43Speaker 6: So we had a really good group of guys and
- 25:45Speaker 6: and the fact that we didn't have fans was was
- 25:47Speaker 6: really a bummer. But I lived in the in the
- 25:50Speaker 6: building connected to the Bell Center, and so like I'd
- 25:53Speaker 6: be trying to take a nap, especially when we were
- 25:55Speaker 6: in the final and the amount of people that were
- 25:58Speaker 6: just outside and around the it was so loud. I'd
- 26:01Speaker 6: open up the window and it was just like chanting
- 26:03Speaker 6: for like like six hours before the game.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And I'm like, like, I'm pretty sure.
- 26:09Speaker 6: We beat Vegas at home and I had to I
- 26:13Speaker 6: had to wait in the locker room for like three
- 26:15Speaker 6: hours because I couldn't I couldn't go, And I still
- 26:18Speaker 6: had to get escort at home because I was It
- 26:21Speaker 6: was me and Evans and we still had to get
- 26:23Speaker 6: escort at home.
- 26:24Speaker 4: We were fine. I mean, we were having you know,
- 26:25Speaker 4: beers in the locker room.
- 26:26Speaker 6: Yeah, we like wanted to be and that was our
- 26:29Speaker 6: excuse to our girls that we couldn't we couldn't leave.
- 26:32Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:34Speaker 1: How.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I mean, I know it was tough time for you
- 26:36Speaker 3: when you were in Montreal in terms of like where
- 26:38Speaker 3: everything was, But how do you enjoy that experience? And
- 26:42Speaker 3: like watching did you watch any of the first round
- 26:44Speaker 3: with them playing and seeing that Bell Center just absolutely
- 26:47Speaker 3: fucking rocking?
- 26:49Speaker 6: Yeah, no, it it definitely you know, brought back memories
- 26:52Speaker 6: and it kind of sucked to be honest, watching them
- 26:54Speaker 6: and be in the playoffs with the amount of fans in.
- 26:56Speaker 3: There and that run you guys had. If if you
- 26:59Speaker 3: had a full barn, oh my god.
- 27:01Speaker 6: The city would have burned. Yeah, like legit, it like
- 27:04Speaker 6: it would have been insane. Like I was walking around
- 27:07Speaker 6: monce Morell with like my mask on and everything and
- 27:10Speaker 6: like during the playoffs and people still recognize me. I mean,
- 27:13Speaker 6: I know it's like prototypical, like long hair like whatever,
- 27:17Speaker 6: but like when you have one of those big masks on,
- 27:20Speaker 6: you can't really tell who someone is and people are
- 27:23Speaker 6: yelling at me from across the street being like, oh,
- 27:25Speaker 6: let's go, and then like screaming at me in France.
- 27:27Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, like let's go, like come on.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And so like.
- 27:32Speaker 6: But but being able to see them this this year,
- 27:35Speaker 6: and the people that I met outside of hockey texting
- 27:38Speaker 6: me and they got their kids to follow jerseys and
- 27:41Speaker 6: they're like, it's sir, it's our lucky jersey, like all
- 27:44Speaker 6: this stuff.
- 27:44Speaker 4: I was. I was very excited for them for sure.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Nice.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Uh, going back to the Sharks quick. You know, I
- 27:50Speaker 3: have two things for you before I'm done asking you.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Shark's question is you know I heard you talk with
- 27:55Speaker 3: Brodie Brazil a little bit about you know, finishing your
- 27:58Speaker 3: career potentially in San Jose and how you you kind
- 28:00Speaker 3: of not that you didn't expect to like it this much,
- 28:03Speaker 3: but you've really kind of come to love of being
- 28:05Speaker 3: a part of that organization. Like how how has that
- 28:08Speaker 3: kind of been for you? Like to know that you're
- 28:10Speaker 3: going to be part of this rebuild and if you
- 28:12Speaker 3: do stay, probably into the later parts of your career,
- 28:15Speaker 3: because I still think you have a lot of good
- 28:16Speaker 3: years left in you, but that might kind of trend
- 28:19Speaker 3: into the lake. Do you want to see this thing
- 28:21Speaker 3: through fully or is it something that you're hoping if
- 28:24Speaker 3: it it goes quicker and if it doesn't and it
- 28:27Speaker 3: goes longer, you're willing to kind of stay with the
- 28:28Speaker 3: team and and hang on and kind of rebuild and
- 28:31Speaker 3: build with these guys.
- 28:32Speaker 4: I mean that's the plan.
- 28:33Speaker 6: And and like you kind of said, I I hope
- 28:37Speaker 6: that it goes quicker. And I mean I sign here
- 28:40Speaker 6: knowing that there was a plan. I don't know, you
- 28:43Speaker 6: know what the plan is, but I you know, Greersy
- 28:46Speaker 6: has been very vocal with me and a few of
- 28:48Speaker 6: the other guys saying that he's.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Going to try and and make the team better as
- 28:53Speaker 4: fast as possible.
- 28:54Speaker 6: And yeah, I obviously understand that that could mean, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 6: getting a guy off of an entry level deal, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 6: wanting more of a chance and like things like that
- 29:04Speaker 6: at which is definitely way above my pay grade. But
- 29:08Speaker 6: I I definitely want to see things through and coming
- 29:12Speaker 6: here and seeing the group and knowing what the fans
- 29:16Speaker 6: can can be like here it It definitely is a
- 29:20Speaker 6: thing that I want to see from you know, to
- 29:22Speaker 6: start to the end, because I know what's been tough
- 29:24Speaker 6: for the last you know, bunch of seasons, but having
- 29:27Speaker 6: having some of the guys that they have as prospects
- 29:29Speaker 6: coming in it, it definitely is exciting.
- 29:33Speaker 3: After seeing Patty, How's Smitty and then seeing Jumbo. How's Maclin?
- 29:38Speaker 3: Are you ever have you ever thought now that maybe
- 29:41Speaker 3: I will play a big brother brother for this second
- 29:43Speaker 3: overall pick that you guys are getting or you're like, no,
- 29:46Speaker 3: no chance.
- 29:48Speaker 6: I mean, I would have no problem doing it.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely haven't.
- 29:51Speaker 6: I haven't keep Yeah, I mean, and these like Mac
- 29:56Speaker 6: and Smithie, like, I don't know if i'd be able
- 29:58Speaker 6: to keep up with them, like their energy every single day.
- 30:01Speaker 6: So we got a little backouse that that we could
- 30:04Speaker 6: we could with someone. So we'll see if if someone
- 30:06Speaker 6: asked me. But I'm assuming. I mean, I don't know
- 30:09Speaker 6: what what those two idiots are going to be doing
- 30:11Speaker 6: next year. Hope hopefully they're Hopefully they're back with John
- 30:14Speaker 6: Bo and Patty because they I don't think they're ready
- 30:16Speaker 6: to be living on their own yet, you know, so,
- 30:19Speaker 6: But if not, hopefully, I know they had a lot
- 30:22Speaker 6: of fun living there, and I know that's a lot
- 30:23Speaker 6: of pressure on their families, but I feel like they
- 30:27Speaker 6: enjoyed it. And they're around the rink all the time
- 30:29Speaker 6: now too, so it definitely worked out well.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Still just young pups right now, they're at uh a
- 30:34Speaker 1: little coaching. Let's ask about podcaster Tyler never offside with
- 30:38Speaker 1: Julian and Kat. Of course, your wife is the co
- 30:40Speaker 1: host along with Julie Petre's married to Jeff. What's the
- 30:43Speaker 1: podcasting world been like? Are you ever concerned about what
- 30:46Speaker 1: she's divulging in the life of a hockey player?
- 30:49Speaker 6: I mean, honestly, she she's been doing such a good
- 30:52Speaker 6: job and I'm very proud of her and and Julie.
- 30:54Speaker 6: But she puts in a lot of work and there's
- 30:58Speaker 6: all there's never any stress all week. It's always like, Oh,
- 31:00Speaker 6: we're gonna have so and so on blah blah blah.
- 31:03Speaker 6: And then it's always they so I think they film
- 31:06Speaker 6: on Mondays and it's always Sunday night.
- 31:09Speaker 4: She's like, what what do you know? Like, what do
- 31:10Speaker 4: you know? Like I need to know.
- 31:11Speaker 6: Everything, give me all the details about so and so.
- 31:14Speaker 6: And I'm like, look like this is your podcast, like
- 31:17Speaker 6: like you do your research, and I mean.
- 31:20Speaker 3: She's but that's what does an hour before every show, and.
- 31:28Speaker 6: So it's it always ends up working out, and like
- 31:32Speaker 6: with Landiskog, She's like, give me all the details and
- 31:35Speaker 6: I'm like, I mean, I know them, but I really
- 31:37Speaker 6: don't know them well enough. As like when we had
- 31:41Speaker 6: when we had like Mac and Smitty on, Like I
- 31:43Speaker 6: could give like little details whatever, but like I don't
- 31:46Speaker 6: know Landiskog as well, Like I played junior against them
- 31:49Speaker 6: and I've played against him my whole career, but you know,
- 31:51Speaker 6: I don't know the details and and all this stuff.
- 31:53Speaker 6: So but she's excited and she's having a really good
- 31:57Speaker 6: time with it, and uh, it's definitely keeping her busy.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Yeah, she's doing They're doing a great job, and I
- 32:02Speaker 3: mean they're getting some pretty cool insight. It's something that
- 32:05Speaker 3: you wouldn't expect to see because you're you know, you're
- 32:08Speaker 3: gett there. You guys are getting a lot of you know, players,
- 32:10Speaker 3: but then you're getting the wives as well, which have
- 32:12Speaker 3: like the most in depth knowledge of the guy that
- 32:15Speaker 3: they're married to. So that's kind of what it's interesting.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Especially on the trade side of things. I always find
- 32:19Speaker 3: that cool because you know, we get traded and you're like, yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 3: it was you know, I got called this and that,
- 32:24Speaker 3: But there's so much more that goes on emotionally and
- 32:27Speaker 3: that the wives kind of, you know, give a little
- 32:29Speaker 3: lens that people can peek into.
- 32:30Speaker 6: So it's pretty cool, and they do a good job
- 32:32Speaker 6: of you know, obviously it's it's their plan and everything,
- 32:36Speaker 6: but of finding the right people at the right time.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Like you know, when Landiska came back from being hurt,
- 32:42Speaker 6: they had his wife on and then they just had
- 32:46Speaker 6: Valardi's girlfriend on this week, and just like everything's been
- 32:51Speaker 6: really good timing. And I know it's still early and
- 32:54Speaker 6: they're still working out some things, but I feel like
- 32:56Speaker 6: everything's been running pretty pretty smoothly for them.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Right now, give me some insight into this year's playoffs
- 33:03Speaker 3: right now, put on your hat or your fan had.
- 33:05Speaker 3: What the Fudgicals happened to the La Kinks?
- 33:10Speaker 4: Oh that was that was great? I mean that alma.
- 33:14Speaker 6: I when when I was on Calgary and we played Edmonton,
- 33:19Speaker 6: and Edmonton the way that they play, I mean, obviously
- 33:24Speaker 6: they have two of the best players in the world,
- 33:26Speaker 6: but it's almost like they they like try and rope
- 33:29Speaker 6: you into playing their style of game. And the Kings
- 33:32Speaker 6: are so good at playing their style and I mean
- 33:35Speaker 6: playing We played against them what five times this year,
- 33:38Speaker 6: and it's it's the same. It's a grind every single game.
- 33:40Speaker 6: And I didn't watch very many games, but I obviously
- 33:43Speaker 6: I saw kind of what happened, and I feel like
- 33:46Speaker 6: they just got, you know, roped into playing their type
- 33:49Speaker 6: of game and and then it ended up.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Happening pretty frustrating. Talco ahead, Thanks Avy, I hate Tyler.
- 33:58Speaker 5: I definitely wanted to just ask a couple of quick
- 34:00Speaker 5: ones about the Sharks, because that's the team I thought,
- 34:03Speaker 5: even when you guys were struggle at times this year,
- 34:05Speaker 5: that was a really fun team to watch. You know,
- 34:07Speaker 5: you had a lot of energy, a lot of youth obviously,
- 34:10Speaker 5: and of course you've been asked a ton about Celebrinian Smith,
- 34:14Speaker 5: but it's a pretty young team. I'm wondering if there's
- 34:16Speaker 5: any other younger guys on that team that caught your
- 34:19Speaker 5: eye that maybe we're not talking enough about.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Well, I mean, obviously Ecki had a great season. I
- 34:25Speaker 6: think he had what fifty eight sixty points career high,
- 34:29Speaker 6: and even Shakir played really good. He was playing twenty
- 34:33Speaker 6: five minutes a night, as I'm not sure exactly how
- 34:36Speaker 6: I think he's like twenty one maybe, but he was.
- 34:40Speaker 6: He started in the American League, it's kind of like
- 34:42Speaker 6: his so not even his first full season, and at
- 34:46Speaker 6: one point he was playing huge minutes for Shutting Shutting,
- 34:49Speaker 6: you know, top lines down and all that, and.
- 34:53Speaker 4: I think he's going to be a very good player.
- 34:54Speaker 6: I think obviously he ended up hurting his shoulder there
- 34:57Speaker 6: at the end of the year, but I think he
- 35:00Speaker 6: ended up kind of growing and understanding that he can
- 35:03Speaker 6: play in this league and be a really good player.
- 35:06Speaker 6: So I think he's definitely one of the guys. And obviously,
- 35:09Speaker 6: the brief period we saw Askarov, he was he was electrick,
- 35:14Speaker 6: he was breaking plucks out, he was toe dragging guys
- 35:17Speaker 6: behind the net. I was like, I'm sitting on the bench,
- 35:19Speaker 6: I'm like, what.
- 35:20Speaker 4: The hell is this guy doing right now?
- 35:22Speaker 2: How how late back is he?
- 35:25Speaker 6: He's he is just like he comes in, he's kind
- 35:27Speaker 6: of like he's like all the young guys now, he
- 35:29Speaker 6: comes in, he's laughing, there's no bad days. I'm like,
- 35:33Speaker 6: I wish I was like that when I was, you know,
- 35:34Speaker 6: twenty one years old, because I was coming and obviously
- 35:38Speaker 6: times have changed, but I was like, I was stressed
- 35:41Speaker 6: to go into the video room and just knowing that I,
- 35:43Speaker 6: you know, made a mistake, and I'm like.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Like, what are the guys going to think of me?
- 35:47Speaker 4: Like the guys are gonna be mad at me? But
- 35:49Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 35:49Speaker 6: They never are like, they're your teammates. You know they
- 35:52Speaker 6: have your back no matter what. But that's I mean,
- 35:54Speaker 6: that's just the way the game has kind of changed too.
- 35:58Speaker 5: Yeah, and the last one for me, I was curious
- 36:00Speaker 5: you mentioned before coming into the league with Tanner Pearson,
- 36:03Speaker 5: with the kid, and now you blink and all of
- 36:07Speaker 5: a sudden, you're the VET on a team just loaded
- 36:09Speaker 5: with really young players and probably some more coming next year.
- 36:13Speaker 5: You know, you have the number two pick. They could
- 36:14Speaker 5: make the team out of training camp. There's other kids
- 36:16Speaker 5: who could make the team out of training camp. How
- 36:19Speaker 5: surreal is it for you now as the VET to
- 36:21Speaker 5: look at the young guys kind of just being young guys,
- 36:24Speaker 5: kind of being knuckleheads, and thinking, I can't believe I'm
- 36:27Speaker 5: now the babysitter with this group.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 6: I mean, honestly, I think it's a good thing because,
- 36:31Speaker 6: I mean, knock on wood, I've been relatively healthy in
- 36:34Speaker 6: my whole career and the body is feeling really good.
- 36:37Speaker 6: So being able to see them come in and have
- 36:40Speaker 6: their energy, I kind of just I try and to,
- 36:43Speaker 6: you know, feed off of it and build off of it.
- 36:44Speaker 6: And obviously every day and the seasons of grind, but
- 36:49Speaker 6: it's fun to be around them, and their energy on
- 36:52Speaker 6: the ice in practice definitely goes a long way. And
- 36:55Speaker 6: I truly think that from the start of the year
- 36:57Speaker 6: this past season to the end, our team and players
- 37:01Speaker 6: and guys just got so much better and so much
- 37:03Speaker 6: closer as a group. And which is hard to say,
- 37:07Speaker 6: and it's not I don't think it's necessarily a good
- 37:09Speaker 6: thing to say, but our locker room was awesome. So
- 37:13Speaker 6: I feel like that just means so much going forward
- 37:16Speaker 6: because JD obviously you know, when you when you're on
- 37:19Speaker 6: a good team, the locker room is like the best part.
- 37:23Speaker 4: And like when I was on the.
- 37:24Speaker 6: Kings, there were there were days where we knew that
- 37:27Speaker 6: they were gonna be work days, but we were gonna,
- 37:29Speaker 6: you know, leave the rink and we were gonna go
- 37:31Speaker 6: grab lunch and have beers and.
- 37:33Speaker 2: And then lunch the next day.
- 37:35Speaker 6: Yeah, and then show up the next day and then
- 37:38Speaker 6: you know, have a game and fucking and beat and
- 37:40Speaker 6: and win five to.
- 37:41Speaker 4: One or whatever it is.
- 37:42Speaker 6: And those are the those are the times where you
- 37:44Speaker 6: start building and then you know you move forward.
- 37:47Speaker 3: You can't win without a good locker adamant about that,
- 37:51Speaker 3: I mean, you know that you know it's you can't
- 37:52Speaker 3: win without being just tight.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Tylas was awesome, man. Last thought, how's your dog?
- 37:59Speaker 6: The dog is driving me nuts. Taking her to the
- 38:04Speaker 6: vet today. Make sure everything's all good. I think she
- 38:06Speaker 6: needs one more vaccination and then she's gonna be going
- 38:09Speaker 6: going on some.
- 38:09Speaker 4: Walks and getting some fresh air and hopefully going to
- 38:12Speaker 4: tire her out because she woke me up at five am.
- 38:15Speaker 4: This one.
- 38:16Speaker 2: It so no.
- 38:19Speaker 1: No no, Rest of the Wicked. Congrats on obviously a
- 38:22Speaker 1: terrific season. Apparently tal saying dog stopped going crazy at
- 38:25Speaker 1: one year olds. You got a little bit of time here.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Hopefully uh that dog will slow down a little bit.
- 38:29Speaker 3: But tals Caesar Chavez or whatever they got over there,
- 38:35Speaker 3: Hey May, Congrats of a terrific career obviously keeping things
- 38:37Speaker 3: rolling there with the Sharks, and best of luck to
- 38:39Speaker 3: the Wife's podcast as well.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Thanks buddy, Thanks, thank you guys. All right, thanks so
- 38:50Speaker 1: much to talk to Folly.
- 38:51Speaker 2: He was great.
- 38:51Speaker 1: You share the director's cut. He gave us a lot
- 38:53Speaker 1: more other good stuff as well. They're the extended cut,
- 38:55Speaker 1: but otherwise it was really good from Tyler again. Wish
- 38:57Speaker 1: him must success. Set a file and sixty no more
- 39:00Speaker 1: Broadway talk. Tomurs is tardy. Here's enough of it in
- 39:02Speaker 1: his own home, so no more Broadway talk. But we
- 39:04Speaker 1: did just have made the fourth Be with You, and
- 39:06Speaker 1: Tal was discussing Star Wars, which is introducing to his
- 39:09Speaker 1: young son. And I've long said that jar Jar Banks
- 39:12Speaker 1: is a very problematic character. At the time, George Lucas
- 39:15Speaker 1: was ripped for being potentially racist with this. You know,
- 39:17Speaker 1: patois accent of this. One of the most irritating characters
- 39:20Speaker 1: ever in this universe or any other universe. Jar Jar
- 39:24Speaker 1: Banks a character that not aged well, like Yoda and
- 39:26Speaker 1: others perhaps or Ewoks. Tal, you have some more observations
- 39:29Speaker 1: for those who haven't seen the Star Wars in a while,
- 39:31Speaker 1: perhaps movies that have not aged as well.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I'm not a huge Star Wars guy,
- 39:36Speaker 5: but I've been getting more and more familiar with it
- 39:38Speaker 5: because my sons loves it right now, mostly the lego.
- 39:42Speaker 1: He's six seven five, he's five kids.
- 39:45Speaker 5: He said, and he loved the Star Wars stuff at Disney,
- 39:47Speaker 5: which they have now. But you know, we did watch
- 39:50Speaker 5: some of the I guess, like that middle trilogy, the
- 39:52Speaker 5: Phantom mess trilogy, Phantom Menace, trilogy.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Phantom No, he's right, it's a phantom mess trilogy.
- 39:59Speaker 2: That's a mess.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yes, we can call it that.
- 40:01Speaker 5: There's plenty of like strange, problematic stuff in these films
- 40:05Speaker 5: you mentioned Jar Jar. There's these like leaders of the
- 40:08Speaker 5: Trade Federation in Phantom Menace that wear these robes and
- 40:12Speaker 5: speak with these very thick Asian accents that I'm not
- 40:16Speaker 5: going to do right now on the podcast. I mean,
- 40:19Speaker 5: they're basically hinting right off the hot Hop that like
- 40:22Speaker 5: China is coming to take over the world, and then
- 40:25Speaker 5: like the attack of the Clones, Like the whole premise
- 40:30Speaker 5: at one point is that like there's this army of
- 40:32Speaker 5: brown people coming.
- 40:33Speaker 1: It's very it's very strange.
- 40:34Speaker 5: I'm sure there's plenty of sort of Star Wars conspiracy
- 40:38Speaker 5: theorists that have gotten into this. I was just started
- 40:41Speaker 5: doing a deep dive and I found a comedian talking
- 40:44Speaker 5: about I wish I remember his name, the standup comedian
- 40:47Speaker 5: talking about how the Jahuas are like a metaphor for
- 40:50Speaker 5: Mexican people.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Are we.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You gotta find this comedian?
- 40:56Speaker 2: What do we? What are we doing? It's just all
- 40:58Speaker 2: the racist tropes of Star Wars.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Basically, well, it's weird, like you know a clue about
- 41:03Speaker 5: any of this, but this, the Asian accents on these
- 41:06Speaker 5: characters and Phantom Menace are so strange and so problematic,
- 41:10Speaker 5: and that's just you know, it's I still am enjoying
- 41:12Speaker 5: it because my son's enjoying it. But you, as an adult,
- 41:14Speaker 5: you can't help but watch this stuff and think that
- 41:17Speaker 5: I'm not sure this has not aged well.
- 41:20Speaker 3: The jar Jar Binks is the absolute worst and best
- 41:24Speaker 3: at the same time, even at the.
- 41:26Speaker 5: Time, but if this character is awful, yeah, they just
- 41:29Speaker 5: gotta like just stuff now that like this new I've
- 41:32Speaker 5: never watched this show and Or, but like a new
- 41:34Speaker 5: season of and Or just came.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Out like too much.
- 41:37Speaker 5: I think it is too much, But I think part
- 41:39Speaker 5: of the motivation is like, let's make so much Star
- 41:41Speaker 5: Wars stuff that we forget about those three movies and
- 41:46Speaker 5: they get erased from our collective memory.
- 41:48Speaker 3: I don't know if it's that as much as it's
- 41:50Speaker 3: just you know, they you know how it is in
- 41:52Speaker 3: the movie industry. You they love pumping out a sequel,
- 41:55Speaker 3: a prequel, a pre prequel, a CC sequel, an next quill.
- 42:00Speaker 3: They just want to get as much money because the
- 42:02Speaker 3: Star Wars fandom is so huge and they're gonna if
- 42:06Speaker 3: you just put Star Wars, people are going to watch
- 42:08Speaker 3: it and you're gonna make money. So it's the same
- 42:10Speaker 3: thing with all the Marvel movies. You know, like I'm
- 42:13Speaker 3: a big Marvel fan. I was a huge Star Wars fan.
- 42:15Speaker 3: And that makes me laugh so much. The Trade Federation,
- 42:20Speaker 3: they just lean into the stereotypes and try.
- 42:23Speaker 2: To hope we all don't notice.
- 42:24Speaker 5: But it's the first fantom menace is these tread.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I know exactly what you're talking about, and you said
- 42:30Speaker 3: it's good, you said it, and I like did is
- 42:32Speaker 3: the same thing with Jarjo where I was like, that's
- 42:34Speaker 3: just me, you know, over my head, where I'm like,
- 42:36Speaker 3: oh my god, this is a bad accident.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh, they're just leaning in.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It's amazing because Lucas, you know what it was here
- 42:43Speaker 1: at Filmmakers is a Cura cours out the great Japanese
- 42:45Speaker 1: filmmaker and that's Hidden Yeah. No, The Hidden Fortress is
- 42:49Speaker 1: a great Japanese film which in many ways ar two
- 42:51Speaker 1: D two and you know ce three Peel. Those characters
- 42:55Speaker 1: are like emblematic characters in that movie. So I don't
- 42:57Speaker 1: know if it's an ode, but I'm.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Sure maybe to the to the Asian culture.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Doubtful, but we'll give them a after the doubt. Everybody
- 43:05Speaker 1: out there enjoyed Star Wars, May the Fourth be with you,
- 43:08Speaker 1: Enjoy what's going on in the world of Star Wars
- 43:10Speaker 1: and and or currently available on Disney Plus. Big night
- 43:13Speaker 1: for Islanders fans is a team when the NHL Draft
- 43:15Speaker 1: lottery top pick in the upcoming draft unbelievable. Here jd
- 43:18Speaker 1: tenth best chance of winning at three point five percent,
- 43:22Speaker 1: but props to Ken Morrow, Yes, longtime director of Pro Scouting,
- 43:25Speaker 1: represented the Islanders the draft lottery the last time they won,
- 43:28Speaker 1: back in two thousand and nine. Was there again this
- 43:30Speaker 1: week as the ping pong balls went their way, the
- 43:33Speaker 1: entire ceremony taking place in Secaucus, New Jersey, where we
- 43:37Speaker 1: were employed. I was busy on baseball, but I did
- 43:39Speaker 1: see in the hockey department, the hockey pit so to speak.
- 43:42Speaker 1: I saw James Glenn and others just just you know,
- 43:46Speaker 1: mesmerized by what was going on. Is well, you're watching
- 43:48Speaker 1: balls being dropped, but pair of the numbers were great.
- 43:50Speaker 1: People were excited and great news only for the Islanders,
- 43:52Speaker 1: but also Utah. They go from fourteenth to fourth and
- 43:55Speaker 1: is I'm happy for Thomas Sicky, He's coming on the
- 43:57Speaker 1: podcast next week. It's great for Islanders fans, but it
- 44:00Speaker 1: does seem to me absurd that a team with a
- 44:02Speaker 1: three point five percent chance of winning it was tenth
- 44:05Speaker 1: ended up putting the draft.
- 44:06Speaker 6: You.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta really be careful on this one because
- 44:11Speaker 3: I could land myself in hot water. I the I yeah,
- 44:16Speaker 3: there's a few things I didn't love about it. I
- 44:18Speaker 3: guess listen, we got to we had some shock and awe,
- 44:21Speaker 3: but you know, I just I can't stand seeing anything
- 44:25Speaker 3: where it's like five, you know, five to ten people
- 44:28Speaker 3: sitting on zoom and they're just showing like all the teams,
- 44:31Speaker 3: and then it's just everybody's sitting there on zoom like
- 44:34Speaker 3: like kind of having like a smile. Like I mean,
- 44:36Speaker 3: like I were ready for the draft. It's like, get right.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I like getting right to it. You know, the exciting
- 44:42Speaker 3: part is not the build up to it. It is
- 44:44Speaker 3: the actual ball drop. It's it's the lottery picks, you know.
- 44:47Speaker 3: So I just, you know, I like, let's just get
- 44:50Speaker 3: the balls going and let's get moving. I I'm a
- 44:53Speaker 3: little at a loss for words that the lottery pick
- 44:57Speaker 3: winner was the New York Islanders that were you know, what,
- 45:00Speaker 3: do they have eighty eight points, they barely missed the
- 45:02Speaker 3: playoffs and they win the first pick overall.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I don't love that. I know that.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Everybody, you know, you look at the odds and it's
- 45:11Speaker 3: you know, the odds are in your favor, and you
- 45:13Speaker 3: you land that three percent chance of winning the first
- 45:16Speaker 3: overall pick. Good for you, that's great. But I do
- 45:19Speaker 3: feel like the five worst team should get the opportunity.
- 45:23Speaker 3: I know they're really This kind of goes to show
- 45:25Speaker 3: you why tanking isn't a good thing, because all these
- 45:29Speaker 3: teams that tanked and had awful years this year, the
- 45:32Speaker 3: Islanders go and just swoop up the first overall pick
- 45:35Speaker 3: and we'll probably get a very you know, they'll get
- 45:38Speaker 3: a franchise player that'll come in. So, you know, for
- 45:40Speaker 3: all the teams that are looking at losing as many
- 45:44Speaker 3: games as possible and mortgaging their future to get the
- 45:47Speaker 3: first overall pick, you can potentially lose it, so you know,
- 45:51Speaker 3: try to win and try to win now. So and
- 45:53Speaker 3: that's just kind of the way the way I see it.
- 45:55Speaker 2: It's it's it's so the.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Leagu should be happy. This is an anti tanking rules.
- 45:59Speaker 1: It's a good thing, and you mentioned it is. As
- 46:01Speaker 1: far as big players, there's no Connor Badar because there's
- 46:04Speaker 1: no U mac Let's cell, Brady James Hagan's probably the
- 46:06Speaker 1: number one overall pick and has you don't think Matt Schaffer, Okay, Canada,
- 46:11Speaker 1: let's go. I mean, how do you get.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I know, I understand Hagen's because the Islanders, right, because
- 46:17Speaker 3: he's from there.
- 46:18Speaker 1: But how do you think it changed what the Islanders
- 46:20Speaker 1: could do? Lou moves on. I don't think they're gonna
- 46:23Speaker 1: you know, they're not rebuilding, but it could be.
- 46:26Speaker 2: You know how you know how it is.
- 46:27Speaker 3: It's like you know, you know how it is in
- 46:30Speaker 3: baseball or any sport like the new GM that comes
- 46:32Speaker 3: in like this is the perfect opportunity to put your
- 46:35Speaker 3: stamp on the team. You get to put your fingerprints
- 46:37Speaker 3: all over that when you pick the first over And
- 46:39Speaker 3: it could quite possibly be Hagen's because when I bring
- 46:42Speaker 3: a hometown kid home, because you know he is projected
- 46:47Speaker 3: at number three, but you know he is still very
- 46:51Speaker 3: a very dominant player. So yeah, that is a possibility.
- 46:53Speaker 3: And but I think it's great for that franchise that
- 46:56Speaker 3: everybody was kind of like, oh my god, it's a
- 46:58Speaker 3: mess that's going down the tank and they go get
- 47:00Speaker 3: the first overall pick. So congratulations to the New York
- 47:03Speaker 3: honors lou With a little sprinkles, a little fairy dust
- 47:06Speaker 3: turns in the first overall pick.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Lou La Morello on his way out the door. Meantime,
- 47:12Speaker 1: Marc Andre Fleur, the retirement tour isn't over just yet.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Legendary goalie Green to join former Penguins team at Sidney
- 47:18Speaker 1: crossby compete for Canada at the DOUBLEAHF World Championship. This
- 47:21Speaker 1: is always fun to watch. If your team doesn't make
- 47:24Speaker 1: the playoffs, you say, well, at least they're gonna go
- 47:26Speaker 1: represent Canada. Representing your country in any level is exciting
- 47:29Speaker 1: and for Flower, I just think this is a great story.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll go out a champion and get one more Tunnle,
- 47:34Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 47:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I got to play World Championships. It's
- 47:38Speaker 3: that very unique tournament where guys have to volunteer. You
- 47:42Speaker 3: have to like kind of you get asked, but a
- 47:45Speaker 3: lot of guys, some guys say no because they've played
- 47:47Speaker 3: a lot during the season, and some guys have played
- 47:50Speaker 3: so many years for Team Canada at the Olympics and
- 47:52Speaker 3: at other places that they just say no, I'm good.
- 47:54Speaker 3: So it's one of those rare tournaments for on the
- 47:58Speaker 3: international stage where guys kind of like elect to go.
- 48:01Speaker 3: And you could see a lot of guys with with
- 48:03Speaker 3: Flurry's Nate, they're kind of going on one last tour,
- 48:06Speaker 3: have a little fun together. It's a great tournament. I
- 48:09Speaker 3: just think the first two weeks is just a blast.
- 48:11Speaker 3: You get to know all the team, the guys on
- 48:13Speaker 3: the team. You go out, you play these kind of
- 48:16Speaker 3: pre tournament games that aren't really worth or don't mean anything,
- 48:20Speaker 3: so you kind of get the feeling back. You've already
- 48:22Speaker 3: played all season, so you kind of already in shape
- 48:25Speaker 3: and ready to go, and you just kind of enjoy
- 48:27Speaker 3: being playing for Team Canada trying to win a championship
- 48:30Speaker 3: and also just enjoying your teammates and kind of enjoying
- 48:32Speaker 3: the start of the summer so to speak.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Where was the hell when you played it?
- 48:37Speaker 3: We went to we start in Geneva. As we went
- 48:40Speaker 3: to Geneva, it was in Paris.
- 48:42Speaker 2: It was awesome. We were in Paris.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Family came got to see the city and then the
- 48:46Speaker 3: finals were in Cologne, Germany. Nice, so we kind of
- 48:49Speaker 3: got to go to Geneva for the pre tournament.
- 48:52Speaker 2: It was amazing.
- 48:53Speaker 3: And then from Geneva we went to Paris. Two weeks
- 48:56Speaker 3: in Paris, then we went to Cologne, Germany.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Pretty sick in the season, definitely.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and then from there I went to Budapest. Nice.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I've heard great things about Hungary. Oh, architecture.
- 49:09Speaker 3: I tell the food, the architecture, the history is very
- 49:15Speaker 3: underrated and very incredible.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Little Chicken, Paprikash Little Paprika and one final five who
- 49:21Speaker 1: were sitting our bestatory Krug, following revelation this week from
- 49:24Speaker 1: Saint Louis Blues general manager Dark Armstrong, the thirty four
- 49:27Speaker 1: year old defenseman and not expect to play again in
- 49:29Speaker 1: the NHL. Krug missed this past season after undergoing ankle surgery.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Signed a seven year contract of the Blues in twenty twenty. Obviously,
- 49:37Speaker 1: it's tough news for Kruk. He came to the league
- 49:38Speaker 1: with the Boston Bruins in twenty twelve undrafted free agent
- 49:41Speaker 1: at a Michigan State university. When you see a player,
- 49:44Speaker 1: unfortunately his career cut short.
- 49:45Speaker 6: J D.
- 49:46Speaker 1: I'm sure you can appreciate how tough it must be
- 49:48Speaker 1: seeing this season not really a career, I should say,
- 49:50Speaker 1: and nothing we wanted to.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you always want to go out on your own,
- 49:56Speaker 3: you know, on your own shield. You always want to
- 49:58Speaker 3: go out your own way. You want to write your
- 49:59Speaker 3: own story and you want the ending to be yours,
- 50:02Speaker 3: and you don't want it to be forced on you.
- 50:04Speaker 3: And you know, I had my back surgery two three
- 50:08Speaker 3: years ago and I thought I would never play again,
- 50:10Speaker 3: and I was able to kind of come back and
- 50:11Speaker 3: play one game in the NHL and that was kind
- 50:13Speaker 3: of my me writing the final chapter on my career.
- 50:16Speaker 3: And you know, I'm so grateful looking back now that
- 50:19Speaker 3: I got to be able to do that, as hard
- 50:20Speaker 3: as it was so for Tori to kind of not
- 50:22Speaker 3: have that closure. And you know, what a great season
- 50:25Speaker 3: career he's had. And you know it was similar. You know,
- 50:29Speaker 3: I'm not we weren't a similar player, but we both
- 50:32Speaker 3: played played physical for not being the biggest guys and
- 50:36Speaker 3: did incur a lot of injuries and you know, unfortunate
- 50:40Speaker 3: stuff that could sometimes be avoided. So it's always sucks
- 50:43Speaker 3: to see guys get their careers cut short. Because of injury,
- 50:46Speaker 3: because it's it's just the way it works, and you
- 50:49Speaker 3: it really is luck of the draw, a little bit
- 50:51Speaker 3: of avoiding some injuries. There's guys that know that played
- 50:53Speaker 3: never got a scratch and you know, a fifteen year career,
- 50:56Speaker 3: and other guys that couldn't get ten games without getting injured.
- 51:00Speaker 3: So just the way it is. You know, I wish
- 51:02Speaker 3: him the best in retirement. Hopefully get him on the
- 51:04Speaker 3: show and talk to him a little bit. But everything
- 51:07Speaker 3: I've heard about him, he's a fantastic guy and just
- 51:10Speaker 3: a warrior on the ice.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Awesome open invite to Tory crew to come on NHL
