- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way everybody.
- 0:27Good afternoon from the chicken coop.
- 0:30It is freezing cold and it is going to get colder and colder
- 0:34overnight. We are supposed to be down in
- 0:36the 20s, which is very abnormal for us.
- 0:40May see some snow. I can't even believe it.
- 0:43And it's really got me out here thinking I'm out here trying to
- 0:46make sure everybody's taken care of, closing the coop up nice and
- 0:50tight. And you know what happens when
- 0:53unusual things get thrown your way?
- 0:56Because today is an unusual thing that's getting thrown our
- 0:58way. And, you know, and even Gladys
- 1:01does not like this. You can hear her in the
- 1:03background, like yapping about it.
- 1:05It is crazy that this is going to happen.
- 1:08But at the same time, this is how life is.
- 1:11It throws us curveballs. It throws us things that are
- 1:14unexpected. It throws us things that we did
- 1:17not plan on, did not think about.
- 1:19I mean, when I started this week, I did not think that by
- 1:22the end of the week I would be dealing with this.
- 1:24Yet here we are dealing with it. So what do you do when life
- 1:29throws you the curveballs? Because you know you're going to
- 1:31get the curveballs. You know you're going to have
- 1:32the flu when you don't want it. You know you're going to have
- 1:35things that show up. You're going to have the car
- 1:38that has the flat tire or the just the inconvenient letter in
- 1:43the mail that says this is something that you have to take
- 1:45care of. Or in my case, you wake up in
- 1:48the morning and you've got to deal with a varmint that's done
- 1:51something bad outside and hopefully not hurt any of the
- 1:55animals. But you've always got something
- 1:58going on. And I think that the hardest
- 2:02part for us as human beings is recognizing we have a level in
- 2:07all of us that puts us in a position of being certainty
- 2:11driven. And so when our normal things,
- 2:15as I'm air quoting get bumped out of line, our certainty gets
- 2:19challenged. And right away we might have a
- 2:21problem with that. And because we might have a
- 2:23problem with that, we let it carry through the rest of the
- 2:27day. We let it affect us moving
- 2:29forward. We let it affect us for all the
- 2:31other things that we are going to do.
- 2:33And we don't notice the good things.
- 2:35We don't notice the good stuff. We don't see the stuff that we
- 2:38really, you know, are blessed with every single day.
- 2:42Like today, the sun was shining all day long.
- 2:45It was beautiful, Chilly but beautiful.
- 2:48And I had to stop and pause and remind myself, notice that the
- 2:52sun is out. Notice that you have all these
- 2:55healthy animals running around. Notice that you can get your
- 2:58garden ready for the spring early.
- 3:01Notice that you are blessed with this amazing, you know, buddy of
- 3:07a dog that goes everywhere with you, that you have this
- 3:10wonderful family and that you're blessed with, you know, kids
- 3:14that want to talk to you eating dinner with a, a person that you
- 3:19love. I mean it, it is all available
- 3:22to us anytime we choose to open our eyes and see it.
- 3:26But because we spend a fair amount of time in the past and
- 3:30we spend a fair amount of time in the future, we don't spend
- 3:34enough time in the present moment.
- 3:36And we when we get the curveballs, it just throws us
- 3:38even more. So today is a blanket reminder
- 3:43that we always have the option to worry.
- 3:45We always have the option to bitch and moan about the
- 3:49curveballs. We always have the options to
- 3:51look at things negatively, but we also have the option to look
- 3:55at them positively. We have the option to see things
- 3:58for the better. And the blessed part of this
- 4:01whole entire thing is that by stopping and pausing and
- 4:06remembering these little things that we know we need to do for
- 4:10ourselves, like, oh, OK, it's a curveball, Acknowledge it.
- 4:14Just say that's a curveball. OK, plot twist.
- 4:17I love to use that 10 plot twist.
- 4:19This isn't something I planned. Oh, here's an unplanned
- 4:22surprise. Here's an and trying to reframe
- 4:24it in a way that allows my brain to not get triggered into some
- 4:29freak show thing about certainty because I am super certainty
- 4:32driven. It just, it just causes us to be
- 4:37more intelligent in the moment when we do that.
- 4:40When we say I can reframe this and I like to remind myself of
- 4:45that. I can reframe this if I choose
- 4:48to. I can look at this differently
- 4:49if I choose to and, and when you do that, it's very powerful.
- 4:55It's extremely powerful because it means you're not stuck by
- 4:58just things happening around you.
- 5:00You're empowered by the vision of how you want to see it.
- 5:03You're empowered by how you choose to make this appear to
- 5:08yourself. So hopefully that gives you some
- 5:11insight. And if you've had a curveball
- 5:13today, you can reframe it. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:16you have a blessed day, and I hope wherever you are, it's
- 5:18warmer than where I am, and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:22Bye.
