- 0:42Speaker 1: what's up? Everybody? Thank you? Everybody who's chatting? Right now?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Who's involved chatting? I got the new haircut. Check it out? Man?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Look at that?

- 0:52Speaker 2: What the summer cut?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Bro? I look like an Armenian lady. Huh. Let me
- 0:56Speaker 1: see he bro, Bro like the Third Guy and Superman two.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Broke in that.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Glass the fucking the phantom zone.
- 1:05Speaker 1: The phantom zone. Bro. Damn bro, where's looking like a
- 1:10Speaker 1: dusty and old?
- 1:11Speaker 2: Do you look at it? I know I needed your haircut.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Bro.
- 1:15Speaker 2: What's up guys?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Your orange hat?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a it's a bass pro shop. I went.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I went. I went fishing for the first time.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I went there one time, bro, and I saw these
- 1:26Speaker 1: brothers and sister making out and I left.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Wait, brothers were making out the fishing place.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, brot the type of people.
- 1:34Speaker 2: That go there, that's a that's a category.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Bro.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Where do I put mine? I thought I had DIBs
- 1:43Speaker 1: on the cousin.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Damn, bro, not pretty much you're.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Out with a cousin and later go, oh man, wish
- 1:50Speaker 1: you the third cousin.
- 1:51Speaker 2: No, but you know what, sometimes I would.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Have you made out of a don't be lying.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But sometimes I'll go on my ancestry and I'll see
- 2:00Speaker 2: he was related to me, and then I'll see a
- 2:02Speaker 2: girl that's like fifth cousin, Like, you know what, that's
- 2:04Speaker 2: not that close. You know, like she looks kind of hot.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Oh, I should have said that fifth cousin's not that close, right,
- 2:12Speaker 2: You can't take that out and post it's fifth cousin.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It's not close, right, I could be like through.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Marriage, I think it's third is the cutoff?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Okay, so fifth cousin I'm good.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Then, so first cousin.
- 2:26Speaker 2: That's like your mom's like daughter.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Your brother, yeah, your mom brother's.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Son, yeah, or your mom's sister's son.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Second cousin is my cousin. So second cousin is my
- 2:39Speaker 1: dad's first cousin to me.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Second cousin is second cousin is if your cousin? No, No,
- 2:51Speaker 2: what the is second cousin? I'm confused now.
- 2:54Speaker 1: For okay, say my brother's daughter, she's my niece, right,
- 3:01Speaker 1: And then so my son. That's her cousin. That'll always
- 3:04Speaker 1: be her first cousin. So now the kids that they
- 3:06Speaker 1: have their second together, it will be second cousin.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So your cousin's kids will be your kids second cousins. Yeah, okay, okay,
- 3:15Speaker 2: so like one parent away because it's like two parents.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But sometimes there's people who become cousin because of marriage,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Like those don't even call man, we can have sex.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Bro's like like we are one one domestic violence fight
- 3:34Speaker 1: before we could start we could start dating.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we got no chromosomes together, Bro, we really don't
- 3:40Speaker 2: have no chromosomes.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, it doesn't even matter. But one time,
- 3:45Speaker 1: because it happened to me, man, I was like talking
- 3:46Speaker 1: to this girl and then my cousins, my first cousin
- 3:49Speaker 1: was that's our cousin. I said, you're my cousin. Man,
- 3:53Speaker 1: she not my cousin. Yeah, but then she keep saying
- 3:55Speaker 1: we're cousins.
- 3:57Speaker 2: So it's kind of like when you meet your cousin's cousins,
- 3:59Speaker 2: you know from the no right.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If you meet your cousins cousins from your their the
- 4:06Speaker 1: dad's side, right, but the dad side is not related
- 4:10Speaker 1: to your father or your mom not related to your
- 4:13Speaker 1: father or mom. It doesn't I don't think they're related
- 4:17Speaker 1: to you.
- 4:17Speaker 2: So you can get a handjob with no worries.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Blood depends matter if the person not like, do they
- 4:22Speaker 1: have a breathing machine?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Sorry? There says a second cousin is Haley.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Read it on Prince Corey.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Okay, how second cousins work? Shared ancestors? You do not
- 4:37Speaker 3: share parents. Common ancestors are your great grandparents. I guess
- 4:44Speaker 3: I should have started at the top. A second cousin
- 4:47Speaker 3: is a family member who shares the same great grandparents
- 4:50Speaker 3: as you, but not the same parents or grandparents. Oh,
- 4:55Speaker 3: so you have to go up to the tip top.
- 4:56Speaker 3: You and your second cousin are in the same generation,
- 5:00Speaker 3: and your parents are first cousins to each other.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Wow. So sometimes you know, when your your nephew, they
- 5:08Speaker 1: call you uncle, they're not really You're not really their uncle,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you're their cousins.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that makes sense, but everybody's fam yeah man,
- 5:16Speaker 2: but you're my plate cousin, bro, so it doesn't matter.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Or there's like those also those cousins where just because
- 5:22Speaker 2: your parents are friends, you know, like with like somebody else,
- 5:25Speaker 2: say that's your cousin right.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, like Freddy had Compamando and Coma and.
- 5:33Speaker 1: What's Up Food podcast? If you're the wondering right now,
- 5:36Speaker 1: who is Prince Corey. She's a stand up comedian from
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Comedy Store. And also she's the wife of Freddie Soldo,
- 5:45Speaker 1: the late Freddie Soldo. Regardless, you on many chickens, they
- 5:49Speaker 1: are in chickens, I don't know, regardless left left her Ah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: but if your cousin, but if your a brother, no, no,
- 6:01Speaker 1: regardless right there, bro, classic yeah man, wow, regardless.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Is that a picture down there with you?
- 6:10Speaker 3: And yeah, but that's Joe Rogan with hair, yeah, and
- 6:19Speaker 3: and Polly and Holtzman.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Bro, he looks the same Chicano right there?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Bro, who does Holtzman? Human looks like somebody that wanted
- 6:31Speaker 1: and boil hides for killing people. Bro, he liked it
- 6:35Speaker 1: and metal metal wadow from fucking Easter La Dukes or
- 6:38Speaker 1: something that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that looks like he works like a team obile
- 6:41Speaker 2: right there from.
- 6:42Speaker 3: That gang campone right the little flower.
- 6:47Speaker 1: You know, like he could be he could be like
- 6:48Speaker 1: a short color for next gang Clips over there by
- 6:52Speaker 1: Pizza low Cap and on that street like Carsona and ship.
- 6:56Speaker 2: All right there, right Lord, Street right there you are. Dang,
- 7:00Speaker 2: it does look Chicano right there, Roy, he does look
- 7:02Speaker 2: like fucking Wait.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Were you at the Latino Laugh Festival show that he
- 7:08Speaker 3: performed in that they rioted?
- 7:11Speaker 1: WHOA, Yeah, I was there? What? Yeah? Bro? I was
- 7:19Speaker 1: a Latino Laugh Festival in nineteen ninety six, produced by
- 7:23Speaker 1: Jeff Baldez And and the owner of San Antonio Rivers
- 7:30Speaker 1: and Comedy Club, Colleen and her husband Shrupa or Shrip
- 7:36Speaker 1: whatever last name is. And when I was, I flew there, right,
- 7:42Speaker 1: I flew there. I never flown before. And I saw
- 7:44Speaker 1: Brian Holtzmann at the airport, right, and that's the only
- 7:50Speaker 1: person I recognized. That's only friend I had from that
- 7:53Speaker 1: recognized the airport. So when we get there, I see
- 8:00Speaker 1: everyone's there, bro, like everybody everybody that's big Latino at
- 8:03Speaker 1: that time, like Daisy Fuentees from MTV, Erica Strada, Jeorge
- 8:10Speaker 1: Lopez wasn't there because Erica Strada was there, Mario Lopez,
- 8:14Speaker 1: Mario Lopez was not was there? Yeah, Bro, Marlo Lopez
- 8:17Speaker 1: was there, his niece wasn't, damn and fucking a lot
- 8:27Speaker 1: of celebrity right, Just om were you there?
- 8:29Speaker 4: No?
- 8:29Speaker 3: Well, no, because I don't think I went there the
- 8:31Speaker 3: next year, but I heard about it because I just
- 8:34Speaker 3: found a letter or a newspaper article about it. Yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 3: were Mitzi said that she thought he was going to
- 8:42Speaker 3: get arrested.
- 8:43Speaker 1: So bro check this out right, and and anybody that's
- 8:46Speaker 1: watching this, this is not like me starting a rumor
- 8:48Speaker 1: that I'm making. No, this is like facts You're I'm
- 8:51Speaker 1: pretty sure I was there, and there's people that spoke
- 8:54Speaker 1: about it before me. Another podcast, I'll tell you what happened.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So dude, call him and Sea shows up to the
- 9:01Speaker 1: Latino Lave Festival at the our taping the Diamonds in
- 9:05Speaker 1: the Rough that's par hosting. So they had invited Column
- 9:13Speaker 1: in Thea to be on our show, but he had
- 9:15Speaker 1: a contract with HBO and our show is going to
- 9:17Speaker 1: be showtime, so he couldn't do our show. All right,
- 9:22Speaker 1: All the way, a lot of drama already broke between
- 9:24Speaker 1: Culture Clash and some other comedians that they didn't think
- 9:27Speaker 1: Culture Clash would be there, even though they were the
- 9:29Speaker 1: hottest comedy act at the time. Culture Clash shut out.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So so they're taping the show, right, and I already
- 9:39Speaker 1: went up for I already went upright and I murdered nineteen.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Ninety six, So you're like, so fifteen.
- 9:46Speaker 1: So I think Freddy and sold Freddy Soto and Brian
- 9:50Speaker 1: Holtzman are ready, are getting ready to go up. But
- 9:55Speaker 1: then Colum and he has to do a guest pop
- 9:56Speaker 1: bro a at a TV taping and I'm like, I
- 10:00Speaker 1: never heard of comedian asking for a for a TV
- 10:04Speaker 1: taping guest spot. So I said, what, So the Bargui
- 10:09Speaker 1: just puts him up and he goes up during those
- 10:12Speaker 1: ten twenty twenty five thirty five Bro thirty he does
- 10:20Speaker 1: a lot of time, Bro, enough time to get the
- 10:22Speaker 1: crowd like, what the hell's going on? Right? So then
- 10:26Speaker 1: Freddy Soda does his set. It wasn't not as great
- 10:30Speaker 1: as I thought. He thought it was gonna be, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Freddy to be killed, but you know he wasn't happy
- 10:35Speaker 1: with it. So but time Brian Holster goes up there, Bro,
- 10:39Speaker 1: he doesn't give a fuck. No more, Bro, he don't
- 10:42Speaker 1: give a fuck, right, and then they want him to
- 10:45Speaker 1: be on the show. Then they want him to be
- 10:47Speaker 1: on the show the main producers at the big shots.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Yeah not because for Darren Carter it's not even Latino heither, Bro.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I forgot they had there, but they didn't get Lewis
- 10:56Speaker 1: c k and so they go for the other redhead,
- 10:59Speaker 1: Darren Carter, so from Presno. Bro. The other thing that
- 11:04Speaker 1: that that Derek card he Latino, was that he was
- 11:07Speaker 1: from Fresno. That's the only thing. So Brian Holtzman goes
- 11:14Speaker 1: up and they didn't want him to go up, Bro,
- 11:17Speaker 1: they don't want him to be on the on the cast,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but Jeff Valdez and Pat Buckles fought for him. So
- 11:23Speaker 1: you got on the show, Brian. But by this time, Bro,
- 11:26Speaker 1: the crowd is dead. Bro. They don't want to laugh
- 11:28Speaker 1: no more. They're done, same audience. Brian Holseman goes up there, bro,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and goes, this is not a comedy show. This is
- 11:37Speaker 1: this is the bust I work for. I n s
- 11:42Speaker 1: the door. We're gonna deport all your web bags, all
- 11:44Speaker 1: your fucking Mexicans out of here right now, man Sport
- 11:50Speaker 1: and Bro, all the comics are like in the back,
- 11:54Speaker 1: like somebody punched them in the gut. Bro. They're dying. Bro,
- 11:59Speaker 1: They're dying, Bros like ah ah. And then he he
- 12:04Speaker 1: doesn't relent, he keeps going, Bro. I know how to
- 12:07Speaker 1: figure out the homeless problem man in America. We're gonna
- 12:11Speaker 1: hire we need a lot of trucks. We're gonna go
- 12:15Speaker 1: to home Depot and get like a hundreds of trucks
- 12:18Speaker 1: and go to Home Deepot and hire them all and
- 12:21Speaker 1: then we'll go to fucking the border and drop them
- 12:24Speaker 1: all off. We don't work here, you don't work anywhere. God,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and then whatever, bro boo. But the crowd was already
- 12:33Speaker 1: mad Bro after Mencia, because Johnnie Start just went up
- 12:39Speaker 1: Bro after all that, after you there like forty five
- 12:42Speaker 1: minutes and he said, man, my name is Johnny Sanchez,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and there's some fucking foo got up like.
- 12:50Speaker 3: That.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I didn't know that came from them.
- 13:00Speaker 1: So then they were the whole audy wanted to beat
- 13:04Speaker 1: up Brian Holseman Bro that he needed to escort out.
- 13:07Speaker 1: That's what I meant.
- 13:08Speaker 2: THEA what I Johnny did they want to beat him
- 13:13Speaker 2: up to you? No, that's crazy, man, Yeah, you have
- 13:17Speaker 2: so many good stories.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, no, because I mean I knew that it
- 13:22Speaker 3: was a big deal, because you know, I'm going through
- 13:25Speaker 3: all of these boxes of Freddy's that I had not seen,
- 13:28Speaker 3: and I mean some of them I had never seen ever, Right,
- 13:32Speaker 3: Because it was stuff that were his before we got married.
- 13:36Speaker 3: You know, we were together for ten years almost, but
- 13:40Speaker 3: you know, but I just packed it all up and
- 13:41Speaker 3: now I'm going through it and it's like, I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 3: it's good wrenching, right, I mean, like I found a
- 13:48Speaker 3: notebook where he decided he was going to be a comic,
- 13:53Speaker 3: right yeah, I mean like I have all his joke notebooks.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I have, Like, I mean, it's it's you know, my
- 14:00Speaker 3: daughter and I are learning who he is. And you know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: my daughter looks like walks like him, talks like him,
- 14:07Speaker 3: acts like him, and she just graduated from college and
- 14:10Speaker 3: she's like, you know, I feel shit. Yeah, real loud saxophone,
- 14:17Speaker 3: real real loud sucks.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Like that, you know that because a lot of people
- 14:21Speaker 2: are always confused with me.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You know, it's sad, like like super sad. Right, that's that's.
- 14:26Speaker 1: The We're like, she's the nineties baby.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But but oh yeah, before you continue, regardless.
- 14:38Speaker 3: These these are old school, So these are.
- 14:46Speaker 2: This was his merch.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, bro, I'm a fucking leave those here
- 14:53Speaker 1: before you leave.
- 14:54Speaker 2: This is a collectible right here, that's not collectable, but
- 15:01Speaker 2: you know, oh this is so cool, and not.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Just because you know, on the Paumer and like I
- 15:08Speaker 3: promise you, y'all aren't really must mustache ring gentlemen, but
- 15:13Speaker 3: in the lights at a certain time of the night,
- 15:16Speaker 3: you're gonna be happy you have that.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Give it this one, Yes, all right, gonna take mustache
- 15:23Speaker 1: rides to the next level.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Wow, this is cool, regardless, regardless, regardless, regardless. Oh my god,
- 15:36Speaker 3: So when when did you meet Freddy?
- 15:39Speaker 1: Oh? I met him when I was living in Atwater.

- 20:07Speaker 2: People don't know a lot of comics. The thing about
- 20:09Speaker 2: comedy is you can go for like making no no money,
- 20:13Speaker 2: making like okay money, to making a lot of money.
- 20:16Speaker 2: And those those those days you talk about are the
- 20:18Speaker 2: ones that people remember the.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Most, you know, starving artists days.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I mean popcorn from the back of a.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Trumpat was it, bro, When you were starving like you
- 20:26Speaker 1: and Johnny and Flacco and the early.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Time to back then I remember there there be the
- 20:31Speaker 2: Knights would be like, all right, either we put in
- 20:33Speaker 2: money for food or gas to go do open mics.
- 20:35Speaker 2: We put in we put in our money together to
- 20:37Speaker 2: go do as many open mics, and we knew the
- 20:39Speaker 2: open mics that had free food. So the Big Fish
- 20:41Speaker 2: right around Glendo on San Frano the Road now it's
- 20:44Speaker 2: called something else Big Fish. Every Tuesday they have open
- 20:47Speaker 2: mics and the owner would make a girl cheese sandwiches
- 20:50Speaker 2: for the comedians with tomato soup, and it was two
- 20:53Speaker 2: dollars beer nights. And then there's another place in Glendell
- 20:56Speaker 2: called Dave's. They had hot dogs for the comedians for
- 20:59Speaker 2: the open We knew where to go to eat for free.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Man, Oh, that's beautiful comedy. That was yeah, because I
- 21:07Speaker 3: knew Mitzi did that. I knew she k knowew like,
- 21:08Speaker 3: she made it a point to take care of the comics,
- 21:11Speaker 3: but I didn't realize that other clubs did that.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, because.
- 21:15Speaker 3: That was the first time I ever did stand up
- 21:18Speaker 3: was at the store.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Bro. Yeah, damn, Bro, look at you.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I look like I look like my dad from syphilis.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Bro.
- 21:41Speaker 1: You don't like that, dude, Bro, like fucking dryer. What
- 21:45Speaker 1: is the name John John.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Cryer, John Cryer, Yeah, totally.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Fucking Johnny name ducky Bro. So yeah, I love you're
- 21:55Speaker 1: playing piano I'm a this hey.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Bro, fucking started learning?
- 22:00Speaker 1: Bro, how great did you that teach you how to
- 22:04Speaker 1: play pianos? And you were like four or like they
- 22:06Speaker 1: say in that Wikipedia.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I'm playing the cassio. Bro again started.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Off with the cassio. Your next concert Chicago, amadeisking.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I'm doing the next Latino Lave Festival.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Bro.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so the Latino Lave Festival was It wasn't only comedy.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It was just like it was like a big event,
- 22:26Speaker 2: like an actual festival.
- 22:28Speaker 1: About that year. That year I went to the Latino
- 22:31Speaker 1: lat Festival. Bro. When I got off stage, I signed
- 22:34Speaker 1: autographed for the first time, shut up, and I took
- 22:37Speaker 1: pictures of people and they were I felt like and
- 22:41Speaker 1: I had I had a bald head. You're trail you
- 22:44Speaker 1: the trollo? Bro?
- 22:45Speaker 2: What so what city was this? In?
- 22:47Speaker 1: San Antonio? Yeah?
- 22:48Speaker 3: On the Riverwalk.
- 22:50Speaker 1: It was one hundred degrees and I'm happy glad that.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Unfortunately I was there to do stand up comedy because
- 22:57Speaker 1: all the other comedy acts that was like a puppet
- 23:00Speaker 1: tire or or improv they were it was done outside. Dude.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Those guys they hey, we're here with such and such
- 23:08Speaker 1: and that like two puppets, but one hundred degrees doing
- 23:11Speaker 1: the show outside for kids and then looks loss Cadillacs
- 23:18Speaker 1: performed too.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Oh they're they're there. Yeah, Wow, that's a.
- 23:24Speaker 1: They were like a sky Bad but there were new
- 23:26Speaker 1: back then. Bro, nobody need to know who they were.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I thought they were Mexican. They're actually from Argentina.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Bro. Yeah, Bro. They all got growth hormones too, man,
- 23:32Speaker 1: because they couldn't reach their arms could reach the end
- 23:35Speaker 1: of the guitar. What's Up Food podcast? We got Chicago
- 23:41Speaker 1: on my days here man, he the guy that drives
- 23:44Speaker 1: on my day of the running the bush so I
- 23:48Speaker 1: can't see. Yeah. The first time I to I took
- 23:52Speaker 1: kick It with Freddy. I went with him two weeks
- 23:56Speaker 1: before he passed Wait what yeah? Where? Two weeks before
- 24:00Speaker 1: he passed away? We did a show for another another
- 24:04Speaker 1: show for jeff Valdez shout Out. We went to do
- 24:07Speaker 1: a show in Las Vegas because Jeffer were promoting his
- 24:12Speaker 1: new channel and they were gonna he had bought a
- 24:15Speaker 1: channel or a couple of Channel TV. Yeah TV, the
- 24:20Speaker 1: TV was gonna be was gonna play in Vegas and
- 24:22Speaker 1: the local affiliates, So we were gonna do a Jeffer
- 24:26Speaker 1: decided to do a party for them, the people who
- 24:30Speaker 1: took the deal, and and a comedy show. So the
- 24:33Speaker 1: comedy show was Johnny Sanchez, Freddie Solo, and this black
- 24:37Speaker 1: comedian who the writer for the Daily Show. She's a
- 24:40Speaker 1: very funny black lady. I wis shure her name one
- 24:44Speaker 1: of the two thousands. Bro, She's funny. She's very funny. Anyways, So, bro,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I remember the vividly bro because Johnny was fucking hosting
- 24:57Speaker 1: rock and he gave me the microphone and he tried
- 25:01Speaker 1: to be funny right, like trying to roast me like
- 25:05Speaker 1: when I got off. But I was like one of
- 25:07Speaker 1: those comic bro, Like, if you roast me when I
- 25:09Speaker 1: when I'm going on or getting off, I would take
- 25:12Speaker 1: it personal. Bro, So just snatched the microphone away from
- 25:14Speaker 1: him real hard, and then I just started roasting him.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Right, You're a trollo dude, Johnny.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So in a limousine, fucking Freddy Soto was he said,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I don't know what he said, but in front of everybody,
- 25:31Speaker 1: he said, man, that ship you stay on stage when
- 25:33Speaker 1: you guys were when you guys were struggling for the microphone,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I was dying in a back. Brother. I don't know
- 25:45Speaker 1: what he said, man, but it was like stupid, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 1: comic to comic. I love the guy. He's been in
- 25:51Speaker 1: the show many times. What's up food? So that was
- 25:54Speaker 1: the last time I saw him. Oh my gosh. Another time, Bro,
- 25:59Speaker 1: we saw him and we were fucked up. He was,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I was, he was, he was sober. They were because
- 26:07Speaker 1: Freddy Soo.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that's yeah, I was.
- 26:09Speaker 1: He was a man. I should have been cought documentary.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I got all these stories. White comics don't know ship
- 26:16Speaker 1: please please anyway. So I'll tell you right now, features
- 26:19Speaker 1: right here, Bro, I knew Freddy Sodo. I knew Freddy
- 26:22Speaker 1: Soo stages. Bro. One time Freddy Sodo stopped eating cheese
- 26:26Speaker 1: and milk and dairy. He lost from you know, people
- 26:29Speaker 1: talking about I'm taking the zampic, I'm fucking taking them
- 26:33Speaker 1: row logan, Freddy Sodo, bro Rogie. Freddy Sodo did it
- 26:39Speaker 1: with not eating cheese broes from Mexican, not to cheese cheesus.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So he lost a lot of way. So he came
- 26:48Speaker 1: in one time and you were wearing a big white
- 26:51Speaker 1: hat and he fucking you want to do your thing?
- 26:54Speaker 1: He wanted to go talk to us because Fredd, so
- 26:57Speaker 1: like you're like some comeds come in and going, man,
- 27:00Speaker 1: they had their only like they're only like the little
- 27:02Speaker 1: bullshit has clicked they hang around with and they only
- 27:05Speaker 1: say hid to those people, right, and then we talk
- 27:07Speaker 1: to everybody. I guess it must be a Latin thing
- 27:13Speaker 1: or must be like growing up, you know, like with
- 27:15Speaker 1: a big family. You know, I guess everybody because Joe,
- 27:18Speaker 1: even Joe Joe Diaz will go in and buzz balls
- 27:21Speaker 1: with everybody all the way in. Dude, they've taken thirty
- 27:24Speaker 1: minutes to come in for solo an hour. Talked to
- 27:29Speaker 1: the fucking doorman first, Chewy bat Chewy Jewey, don't watch
- 27:36Speaker 1: me playing man, going to be playing Tuesday at the
- 27:41Speaker 1: House of Blues. So he will say hi to everybody, right, So.
- 27:45Speaker 2: It didn't matter about the status the person, He'll.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Say hi to everybody. So bro. So we were in
- 27:51Speaker 1: the back and he had lost a lot of weight,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and I was there with with d Torres bro Bro
- 28:02Speaker 1: Chorus and afraid of wearing a he was he was damn.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I was kiddy, And I said, Freddie, I don't know
- 28:09Speaker 1: if you noticed, but this guy man, when you were
- 28:10Speaker 1: fat he has to call you a rock and roll
- 28:13Speaker 1: peg behind your back, that's what he said. I told
- 28:20Speaker 1: him that, but I told him that, hey, you're going
- 28:22Speaker 1: to call you rock and roll pig. Could you have
- 28:25Speaker 1: to be chubby little at the lamptops and you had
- 28:29Speaker 1: the fucking little jacket and you're looking like a like
- 28:31Speaker 1: a fat Alvis Bro. But it's funny, man. I was
- 28:34Speaker 1: telling him that. He said rock and roll peg, but
- 28:36Speaker 1: then started adding all kinds of stuff and then he laughed. Bro,
- 28:39Speaker 1: he said that funny brother, that fucking funny brother. So
- 28:45Speaker 1: at the fucking at his fucking wake at the comedy store,
- 28:48Speaker 1: when fucking Hell Magic Golf, fucking Irish Fear, fucking old Shack,
- 28:54Speaker 1: all these fools right, who didn't who knew him sober
- 28:57Speaker 1: only so fucking they were like, oh, he used to
- 29:03Speaker 1: roast us, and Al Magic said he call me. He
- 29:07Speaker 1: call me Monaco because I'm smart, I guess, and I goes,
- 29:12Speaker 1: what the fuck are these? All these nicknames are duds? Right?
- 29:17Speaker 1: And then he called Reashia Fear some Jewish name, bro
- 29:20Speaker 1: and h had a nickname for old Shaq. Bro. I
- 29:23Speaker 1: was in the back drunk, fuck that he's rock and
- 29:26Speaker 1: roll pig. Oh my god, he's a fucking rocking roll pig. Bro.
- 29:34Speaker 2: So yeah, man, So so you met Freddy when you
- 29:38Speaker 2: first moved to LA because he started doing comedy in Apasto.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Or he moved out here to do comedy.
- 29:43Speaker 3: He moved out here to do comedy. But he moved
- 29:45Speaker 3: here in ninety ninety bro.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and I started in ninety four ninety five.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Oh wow, So he started came here to he moved there.
- 29:53Speaker 2: He moved out here to do comedy.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Like yeah, oh what you have a funny ass story.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Here's a story of Freddy. Soto told me. It is
- 30:00Speaker 1: for Freddy's SODA's words. He said that he was driving
- 30:04Speaker 1: Richard Pryor around right for many for like before we passed.
- 30:08Speaker 1: He was Richard Prior driver. When Richard Price was standing
- 30:11Speaker 1: up again, Freddie saw you to drive that motherfucker right,
- 30:15Speaker 1: and Freddy Soldo told that fool no. Richard Pryce said,
- 30:19Speaker 1: what do you do for liv What do you do, Freddie?
- 30:22Speaker 1: We're not driving around? Oh I'm a stand no comedian
- 30:25Speaker 1: And Richard Prior said Richard, he said, man trying to
- 30:30Speaker 1: get his whole family in the game. Huh ha ha.
- 30:35Speaker 1: And he said that he would help. He will help
- 30:37Speaker 1: Richard Pryor get into the car. And one time I
- 30:41Speaker 1: guess Freddy Soda was not paying attention and Richard Pryor
- 30:45Speaker 1: signed his balls. Bro, he may be seeing my nuts, motherfucker.
- 30:51Speaker 1: He made me saying my nuts, motherfucker. So check this out, Broke,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you told me that.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Sorry for about the part. Rodriguez has got his own family.
- 31:00Speaker 1: So, Bro, this is the true story. Freddy Solo was
- 31:03Speaker 1: we were this is we're in the back of the commas.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I was fucking loaded, bro, But he was telling me.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Tell me about your prior, Bro, tell me, tell me
- 31:13Speaker 1: about that party you took him to. Oh yeah, man,
- 31:16Speaker 1: Freddie goes, yeah, brother, I took I took up Richard
- 31:20Speaker 1: Pryor to Whoop your Goldbers party, right, and then I'm
- 31:26Speaker 1: just there standing around staying hi. The people following him
- 31:29Speaker 1: around chaperone, Bro. Pretty much Richard Prior and Freddy Solo
- 31:34Speaker 1: said that he saw fucking Paul Mooney, bro straight up
- 31:41Speaker 1: stealing pies on that party, blueberry pies. Like he was
- 31:45Speaker 1: grabbing pies and going in and out of his car, bro,
- 31:49Speaker 1: like like Marie Counder is like pies. But he was
- 31:52Speaker 1: taking the pies. Ship little pie at that party was
- 31:56Speaker 1: taking hold.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna eat those pies that.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Way, That's what he said. Isn't even there, but that's
- 32:04Speaker 1: what he said. Nobody's goes because so I so because
- 32:10Speaker 1: Freddy's Sodo was he had a rapport with these guys, right,
- 32:13Speaker 1: he could walk up to them and ask them. He goes, man,
- 32:16Speaker 1: what are you doing? Man? You're just taking all the pies. Ah,
- 32:19Speaker 1: fuck this bitch. She could buy more pie the other
- 32:24Speaker 1: motherfucking pie looking rich pryor motherfucker the backtable. He didn't
- 32:28Speaker 1: need no pie. He said that the regular pies, yeah, bro,
- 32:34Speaker 1: big ass pies. He said that Palmoney will walk up
- 32:36Speaker 1: to Freddy's Sodo and with with there and go, oh,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I hate you driving the devil around. Whoa, I hate
- 32:47Speaker 1: you driving the devil around.
- 32:49Speaker 2: No, So like people had like.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Some palmoney, palmoney and prior their old.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Friends, like they're bossing each other because he's from Louisiana
- 32:59Speaker 2: to you, right, I don't know that's that I mean
- 33:02Speaker 2: because I'm from New Orleans.
- 33:03Speaker 3: So I like he would always be like, Okay, they
- 33:08Speaker 3: met in Berkeley Bay.
- 33:12Speaker 1: They met in Berkeley.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Oh, they met in Berkeley.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yeah, when Richard Prior was trying to like go from
- 33:17Speaker 1: acting like Bill Cosby on stage and trying to find
- 33:20Speaker 1: his voice. Took him to Berkeley to hear the black
- 33:25Speaker 1: Panther speeches and all the other stuff. You could be
- 33:29Speaker 1: like he could hear that voice.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Oh I didn't know that story.
- 33:33Speaker 1: So when you hear Richard Prior do that black panther
- 33:35Speaker 1: voice and one of the catches he heard it at
- 33:38Speaker 1: the Comedian research, bro't just sit there and make shut up?
- 33:47Speaker 3: Absolutely not. Oh my well, And then I remember running
- 33:51Speaker 3: into you after Freddy died at the Day of the Dead.
- 34:00Speaker 1: She was just like she was dress like your own
- 34:03Speaker 1: night ship where you're like you really.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I'm always in cost I'm always in cost This is
- 34:11Speaker 3: a bathing suit dress from the nineteen.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Sixtiess Princess Corey. Right now, she's keeping it live, bro,
- 34:18Speaker 1: I'm keeping it light. She's very light right now, bro,
- 34:21Speaker 1: keeping it light, bro, Like if she was hosting the show,
- 34:25Speaker 1: to be like five different outfits just to hold the show. Absolutely,
- 34:30Speaker 1: she grew up there with a fucking fucking a yellow
- 34:35Speaker 1: boy and ship like a big boy, like you know
- 34:39Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like people talk about like, oh,
- 34:41Speaker 1: Natasha La Garol with her dresses. They are Prince Corey
- 34:45Speaker 1: is to perform with dresses because they all get it
- 34:47Speaker 1: from Fellers.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Dealer, right, right, because you got to learn, you got
- 34:54Speaker 3: to learn from your elders, right, Yeah?
- 34:57Speaker 1: Is that what inspire you to be it?
- 35:00Speaker 3: Because well, no, Well what inspired me is my grandmother
- 35:04Speaker 3: was a costume designer, and so she my fat ass,
- 35:08Speaker 3: and she taught me how to sew. And then and
- 35:12Speaker 3: so when I like in New Orleans, you know women,
- 35:17Speaker 3: Southern women, a little bit of vicious Southern women, a
- 35:23Speaker 3: tad bless your heart, somebody's.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Going to break up a barbecue and start up prayer bro.
- 35:31Speaker 3: So if you know, the worst thing that a woman
- 35:33Speaker 3: could do in the South is show up to a
- 35:35Speaker 3: party wearing something that some other woman is wearing. Shut
- 35:40Speaker 3: up right, like Walmart, you gotta go, well, well it's
- 35:43Speaker 3: it's kind of it's you know, you have to be
- 35:47Speaker 3: in whatever the latest fashion is, right, and so there
- 35:51Speaker 3: is a chance of that if everybody's going to the
- 35:53Speaker 3: same shops, then you might wear something that somebody else wore. Okay,
- 35:57Speaker 3: So and that was a no no. But but for me,
- 36:02Speaker 3: I was very well endowed as a as a youngster.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So I've since had two breast reductions. But I was
- 36:10Speaker 3: very well endowed as a youth, and so two breast
- 36:15Speaker 3: reductions because I was naturally yeah, I was naturally mor
- 36:19Speaker 3: gaunt morgana. That's y'all wouldn't know.
- 36:22Speaker 1: That before before you got into common after.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Before like this was in high school, Like, well I
- 36:27Speaker 3: did it, Like I shrunk three inches. I shrunk three inches.
- 36:32Speaker 3: It was terrible. It's terrible, hunchback. It was awful. But
- 36:37Speaker 3: but anyway, but that's what got me into making costumes
- 36:42Speaker 3: because nothing would fit me. Like they didn't make clothes,
- 36:47Speaker 3: you know, like if you wanted to fit the bottom
- 36:49Speaker 3: of you, it wouldn't fit the top of you. Right,
- 36:51Speaker 3: So my grandmother showed me how to go and then
- 36:54Speaker 3: she taught me about fabric. And so I was like, well,
- 36:57Speaker 3: I would just go to thrift stores and she you
- 37:00Speaker 3: would always show me. She said, you know, the vintage clothes.
- 37:03Speaker 3: It was better fabric. It was made better. It had darts,
- 37:06Speaker 3: it had gathers, it was for curves, right, like you know,
- 37:11Speaker 3: like these clothes today that the girls shop at. Right,
- 37:15Speaker 3: it's like a T shirt is just a square, you know,
- 37:18Speaker 3: because that's cheap. You can make it. You can make
- 37:20Speaker 3: a million of them, right, But if you want to
- 37:22Speaker 3: put like take that nap, take that blanket and try
- 37:26Speaker 3: to fold it over the pillow, you can't do it
- 37:29Speaker 3: unless you make little ducks and gathers and plats, right,
- 37:33Speaker 3: because it's round. So I just started shopping at thrift
- 37:38Speaker 3: stores and then I would cut up really well made
- 37:42Speaker 3: vintage clothes and I would make my own outfit because
- 37:45Speaker 3: then I could show up to the party and no
- 37:48Speaker 3: one would be wearing what I was wearing, right because
- 37:52Speaker 3: it was one of a kind. Now did people make
- 37:55Speaker 3: fun of me, of course, But you know, show me
- 37:57Speaker 3: a comedian that people didn't make fun of when you
- 37:59Speaker 3: were growing up. Like, you know, you take those slings
- 38:02Speaker 3: and arrows and you throw them right back. But I'll
- 38:04Speaker 3: be honest, I was. I am not. Mitchy always used
- 38:06Speaker 3: to tell me. She's like, you're not a comic, okay,
- 38:10Speaker 3: Like I'm not a comedian. You know why, because to
- 38:12Speaker 3: be a good comedian you have to get the Heckler's right.
- 38:19Speaker 3: It's it's energy. You you're up on stage and you
- 38:23Speaker 3: are exchanging energy with the crowd. And if there's this
- 38:27Speaker 3: little pocket over here, that gets a little bit out
- 38:31Speaker 3: of control. You know, that's why a lot of teachers
- 38:33Speaker 3: are good comics, because you know, you got to take
- 38:36Speaker 3: that class, clown, and you got to be like, this
- 38:38Speaker 3: is not your time to shine. Right, But I'm a
- 38:41Speaker 3: Southern batan. No, but I'm a well I did go
- 38:44Speaker 3: back to school to become a teacher. But I like
- 38:45Speaker 3: to be a hostess, right, Like I want to throw
- 38:48Speaker 3: a dinner party, and I want to be in a
- 38:49Speaker 3: fabulous dress, and I want to be charming. I don't
- 38:51Speaker 3: want people to throw food at me. I don't want
- 38:53Speaker 3: to have to like discipline people at my dinner party.
- 38:58Speaker 3: I'd like, I want to have a good time. And
- 39:00Speaker 3: you and you can't just have a good time when
- 39:04Speaker 3: you're on stage. You have to master the energy of
- 39:07Speaker 3: the room. Yeah, you have to. And and so that
- 39:11Speaker 3: was something that I just I just didn't care to
- 39:14Speaker 3: do that.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I didn't care. That's funny you say that, man, because
- 39:17Speaker 1: I heard the thought that that that the comedy store
- 39:19Speaker 1: that I died.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Wait what happened?
- 39:21Speaker 1: There was a comedian out there. I think it's this
- 39:24Speaker 1: because a teacher, but also the teacher. He's a teacher.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I'm not showing you his name, but he said, you know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: this is like the comedy store, right ballet or on
- 39:37Speaker 1: a Sunday bro like after the after the open mic,
- 39:40Speaker 1: So it's like any other rails right right right, He
- 39:43Speaker 1: continues continuous, but there was like nobody there, like thirty
- 39:47Speaker 1: people there bro and comedians in the back. And he said,
- 39:51Speaker 1: I was talking to a comedian in the back and
- 39:55Speaker 1: he was telling me, trying to give me advice on
- 39:57Speaker 1: stand up comedy. He said, what you gotta do, man,
- 40:00Speaker 1: is you gotta go up. We'll watch the show. And
- 40:03Speaker 1: she was the last communist talked about it. See what
- 40:06Speaker 1: the cross of the vibbing and play off that and
- 40:11Speaker 1: see what they're doing, and you're the word. And I
- 40:16Speaker 1: looked at him and said, how do you do that?
- 40:18Speaker 1: He looked at me and said, I don't know. I
- 40:20Speaker 1: saw Hyundai's and then he was saying that man name
- 40:25Speaker 1: is Will Sparici wal Spercy.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 40:31Speaker 1: When you started, it was like when you came to
- 40:34Speaker 1: the comedy store, was a ninety.
- 40:37Speaker 3: He had like ninety six. Yeah you came for acting,
- 40:40Speaker 3: or yeah I came. I came from acting. Yeah, I
- 40:42Speaker 3: was an actress in New Orleans and I had two eight.
- 40:46Speaker 3: There were only two agents in New Orleans, and one
- 40:48Speaker 3: agent put out a hit on the other agent. WHOA
- 40:52Speaker 3: that's how cut throughout the business.
- 40:54Speaker 2: God damn, it sounds like comedy producers are here.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 3: No, And it's also like a right to work state.
- 41:00Speaker 3: So I did a national commercial during the super Bowl
- 41:03Speaker 3: and I got one hundred dollars so and for people,
- 41:07Speaker 3: for people that have super Bowl commercials, you know that
- 41:09Speaker 3: could get you a house.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my god, it was right to pay, right,
- 41:15Speaker 2: But did you know did you know you were supposed
- 41:18Speaker 2: to get more?
- 41:18Speaker 1: Or no?
- 41:19Speaker 3: No, no, we didn't know. We were just you know.
- 41:21Speaker 2: And when did you find out?
- 41:23Speaker 3: Oh not until I came out here, And then I
- 41:24Speaker 3: learned how the business really were. But but I had
- 41:28Speaker 3: I had an audition in New Orleans and I got
- 41:31Speaker 3: a show out here. And you remember that show with
- 41:34Speaker 3: aj Benza.
- 41:35Speaker 1: It was true.
- 41:38Speaker 3: And then he had like he had a single light
- 41:40Speaker 3: bulb and then he turned it out that was my show.
- 41:44Speaker 3: I came out here, pitched it to all these people
- 41:48Speaker 3: with this producer that didn't know you were not supposed
- 41:52Speaker 3: to tell people ideas without signing anything. And so we
- 41:56Speaker 3: went and gave that ideal way and then next thing
- 41:58Speaker 3: you know, there's aj Benza, Aul Rum get get those
- 42:03Speaker 3: get those sounds.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Saxophone.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Saxophones are real.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Loud right now. It was Hollywood Babylon the show Hollywood Babylon.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Hallw Hollywood Stories.
- 42:18Speaker 1: No, it was Hollywood Babelah was Tony Curtis.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean down to down to the light bulb
- 42:27Speaker 3: and everything.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Damn.
- 42:29Speaker 3: But you know what, but it's all right because then
- 42:31Speaker 3: I called my grandmother and I said, oh my god,
- 42:33Speaker 3: what am I going to do? And she said, well,
- 42:35Speaker 3: she goes you are a reincarnated forties film star. So
- 42:39Speaker 3: she said go find Zero's Supper Club. And then that
- 42:42Speaker 3: was the Comedy Store, so I and then and then
- 42:45Speaker 3: I went on stage, and then I met Freddy and
- 42:47Speaker 3: he said I was hilarious, and then I married him.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Mister the candles, Yes, that's what it was. Yes, do it.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yes, Babylon is very scandalous.
- 42:57Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 42:58Speaker 3: It was filed in the same part your brain.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I got it. I get it. So you did a
- 43:05Speaker 1: a movie on recall regardless, Yes, A documentary.
- 43:10Speaker 3: A documentary, yeah, And we won Best Documentary in twenty
- 43:12Speaker 3: twenty at the Golden State Film Festival.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was. And so Freddy's writing partner, he
- 43:19Speaker 3: had two writing partners, and it was Marco Soriano and
- 43:24Speaker 3: Rick Pelasio. And they called themselves Therace Barcos, right because
- 43:29Speaker 3: one was from Mexico and one was from the Dominican
- 43:31Speaker 3: Republic and one was from Colombia and so and they,
- 43:36Speaker 3: I mean, we like, I was the talent coordinator at
- 43:39Speaker 3: the store, so we filmed it at the Comedy Store,
- 43:41Speaker 3: at the Laugh Factory, at John Lovitz's club, at the
- 43:46Speaker 3: Ice House. And then my daughter was three at the time. No,
- 43:52Speaker 3: she wasn't three. This was around two thousand and and eight,
- 43:55Speaker 3: so she was six and their daughter was five, So
- 44:00Speaker 3: I was not in the room. I set up the interviews,
- 44:03Speaker 3: and then I was outside playing with the kids. So
- 44:06Speaker 3: I didn't even know that I was in it, that
- 44:09Speaker 3: they asked the comedians questions about me until I saw
- 44:13Speaker 3: it at the screening. So it was interesting because you know,
- 44:18Speaker 3: and then he gave me like the tapes, you know,
- 44:20Speaker 3: like the longer tapes, and I got to hear what
- 44:22Speaker 3: everybody had to say about Freddie and what everybody had
- 44:25Speaker 3: to say about me. So, I mean I listened to
- 44:27Speaker 3: it so many times over the years because I feel
- 44:30Speaker 3: like my life stopped because it was Freddie died and
- 44:34Speaker 3: then I'm from New Orleans and I took Cruz home,
- 44:37Speaker 3: you know, three weeks after the funeral, and Hurricane Katrina
- 44:39Speaker 3: hit and everybody and their family, everybody in my family
- 44:42Speaker 3: lost their homes, so I had nowhere to go. And
- 44:50Speaker 3: then and then came back to LA and was like,
- 44:55Speaker 3: all right, this is it. It's the end of the world,
- 44:58Speaker 3: right Freddie. Freddie's just gonna Freddy just went ahead and
- 45:00Speaker 3: he's gonna send a hurricane to come get me. That's it.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Just came over.
- 45:04Speaker 2: So all your family members they lost their homes.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so so and my grandmother just moved to
- 45:10Speaker 3: Houston and everybody just kind of like relocated. But in
- 45:15Speaker 3: my head, you know how it is. I was just
- 45:18Speaker 3: talking to Lisa about it, Like I watched Freddy every
- 45:21Speaker 3: single night, and I would watch it and then I
- 45:24Speaker 3: would take notes, and then after the show, we'd go
- 45:26Speaker 3: and we'd stay up all night and we'd dissect the
- 45:28Speaker 3: jokes and then we'd talk, well, maybe you could do
- 45:30Speaker 3: this here, maybe you could do this here, And then
- 45:32Speaker 3: I would film them and then i'd go on tour
- 45:34Speaker 3: with them, and it was like, you know, my life
- 45:37Speaker 3: was his life, Like I he was the funniest person
- 45:40Speaker 3: I'd ever met in my life. And I like, I'll
- 45:43Speaker 3: tell you the first time I met him, he walked
- 45:45Speaker 3: into the green I mean, he walked into the kitchen
- 45:48Speaker 3: at the comedy store, and it was like this halo
- 45:52Speaker 3: was around him, and I just like everything else went black.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 45:58Speaker 3: I was just like, that's that him. This is this
- 46:01Speaker 3: is who I'm supposed But he had he had dreams
- 46:09Speaker 3: and we had the same similar dreams that we knew
- 46:13Speaker 3: each other in past lives, like throughout the year, I
- 46:17Speaker 3: mean like throughout the ages. But apparently in everyone he
- 46:21Speaker 3: dies unfortunately. Like there was one where he was a
- 46:24Speaker 3: bullfighter and I and I had the man tia and
- 46:27Speaker 3: I was throwing him roses. The multiverse, yeah exactly, but
- 46:32Speaker 3: he dies in everyone, he said, which which is not
- 46:35Speaker 3: great for me.
- 46:36Speaker 2: So you guys met in the nineties, like early on
- 46:39Speaker 2: in the sorry dating.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and then do you have parties together? No?
- 46:43Speaker 3: Because he was sober like he was, so I met
- 46:47Speaker 3: and married a sober man and then and then all
- 46:50Speaker 3: of a sudden, it was when you get married two
- 46:53Speaker 3: thousand and one. Wow, and we got married right after
- 46:57Speaker 3: nine to eleven. All these tragedies, you know, still magnolia
- 47:02Speaker 3: shug right, like, you know, we can survive tragedies. We
- 47:05Speaker 3: just keep going.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Damn, we just keep going. Oh what's it called Katrina
- 47:09Speaker 2: nine to eleven? That's crazy?
- 47:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but uh but yeah, we had five hundred people
- 47:16Speaker 3: were gonna come to the wedding, and then nobody wanted
- 47:18Speaker 3: to fly. Wow because it was we got we got
- 47:21Speaker 3: married Halloween weekend, New Orleans. Yeah.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Did you ever go to a Paso?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Oh?
- 47:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, we went to El Paso all the time. Yeah.
- 47:30Speaker 3: There's a funny scene in the movie where he uh,
- 47:34Speaker 3: you know the first time I met his parents, you know,
- 47:36Speaker 3: because he would look at me and he'd like tell
- 47:38Speaker 3: me how much cleavage I could show, you know, like everything,
- 47:41Speaker 3: you know, up and up it's like ninety degrees and
- 47:43Speaker 3: I'm wearing a turtleneck an El Paso and but he goes, mom, dad,
- 47:48Speaker 3: I got my name painted on the wall at the
- 47:50Speaker 3: comedy store. And so he's you know, We're all sitting
- 47:53Speaker 3: there and all nice and watching the video, and then
- 47:56Speaker 3: all of a sudden, there's this edit and then I'm
- 47:59Speaker 3: naked in the thing, like getting ready, putting my makeup on,
- 48:03Speaker 3: like he was trying to get this little picture.
- 48:05Speaker 2: He's like, oh my god.
- 48:09Speaker 1: So I'm laughing at some comic because you say you
- 48:11Speaker 1: married a sober guy. That somebody said that Lisa married
- 48:14Speaker 1: an attic. Bro.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Wait, what so, but you got sober a little bit
- 48:18Speaker 3: after please, I'm married an attic.
- 48:20Speaker 1: No.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Wait, so are you sober now?
- 48:22Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, okay?
- 48:23Speaker 3: And how long have you been sober?
- 48:26Speaker 1: Eleven nine?
- 48:29Speaker 3: Because it's not easy.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Well, you're the.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Ready path away two thousand and five.
- 48:35Speaker 1: What months? What day?
- 48:36Speaker 3: July July tenth, Bro, I.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Met you already sober, sixteen years, already.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Well before phrase I passed away, I was sober four months,
- 48:51Speaker 1: trying hard, right, trying hard, damn so when he passed away,
- 48:55Speaker 1: when I heard probably, oh I'm going to quit. But
- 49:00Speaker 1: I remember when I found out, I was gonna go
- 49:03Speaker 1: to to buy a gatorade or something. Then I said
- 49:07Speaker 1: fuck this, no, I ended. I ended up going to
- 49:15Speaker 1: mark fucking what's the name of house? Bro. I was
- 49:19Speaker 1: smoking weed with him, favor man. Then we found out
- 49:24Speaker 1: about the news. Then I said yeah, oh hey, oh
- 49:26Speaker 1: hate it. Bro. That was over four months. Oh yeah,
- 49:31Speaker 1: but then but that went. I went down spiral after
- 49:34Speaker 1: that because I remember I was fucking done Bro and
- 49:40Speaker 1: No Sleep to Brooklyn and at the Montreal Comedy Festival,
- 49:44Speaker 1: because I ended up going to Montreal Comedy Festival that year.
- 49:47Speaker 2: When you got lost.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Freddie was supposed to go to BRO, Like, are you serious?
- 49:52Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure he would have went, because I I
- 49:53Speaker 1: ended up going. I had to audition to go to
- 49:56Speaker 1: be on Young Faces, and I'm pretty sure Freda because
- 49:59Speaker 1: Freddie had just done that with Adam Sandler.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Well, he did the table read. I think I think
- 50:05Speaker 3: I sent it to y'all. He did the table read
- 50:06Speaker 3: for Click like three weeks before he died.
- 50:09Speaker 2: He was gonna be in Clanish Spanglish.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I'm telling you. And then
- 50:16Speaker 3: I found another script that he did with Al Madrigal
- 50:19Speaker 3: and Willie Barceena or something. There was some kind of
- 50:22Speaker 3: like Latin sketch show. I just found that script. I mean, like,
- 50:26Speaker 3: like you know what I'm doing. I'm doing like a
- 50:29Speaker 3: uh forensic files right like I'm going through this and
- 50:32Speaker 3: I'm putting things together and I'm like, wait, what I mean?
- 50:36Speaker 3: He had so much going on, and it it just
- 50:41Speaker 3: there's something wrong either he should not have died. Do
- 50:45Speaker 3: you know that it's it's he shouldn't have and.
- 50:47Speaker 1: He what happened with him that night?
- 50:49Speaker 3: No, no, I wasn't with him, so he was I
- 50:52Speaker 3: was at home with the baby. So he did a
- 50:54Speaker 3: standing ovation show at the laugh Factory. And like that night.
- 50:58Speaker 3: There were three nights he didn't come home home and
- 51:01Speaker 3: and his mom always told me, don't let him drink.
- 51:05Speaker 3: She warned me, right, and so about.
- 51:08Speaker 1: His he didn't come home like this disappeared.
- 51:11Speaker 3: No no, yeah, well, like he was going out doing
- 51:13Speaker 3: shows and then and then he didn't come home. So
- 51:16Speaker 3: but the friday he died on Saturday, but on Friday
- 51:20Speaker 3: he came and well, so that he died July tenth.
- 51:25Speaker 1: So I think it was about he didn't know why
- 51:28Speaker 1: it was that you were calling people you were.
- 51:30Speaker 3: No no, no, no, I knew, I knew, I knew,
- 51:32Speaker 3: I knew that I knew he was out, you know,
- 51:35Speaker 3: like I didn't know he didn't come home until partying.
- 51:37Speaker 3: But you knew without right right, well, because I knew
- 51:41Speaker 3: there was something wrong because he had been like that
- 51:43Speaker 3: whole week had been thrown up and you know he
- 51:46Speaker 3: was always grabbing his chest like I just talked to
- 51:49Speaker 3: somebody that said, because you know, he opened up for
- 51:52Speaker 3: Mark Anthony on his world tour.
- 51:53Speaker 1: What, yes, yeah he did, bro. He was they will
- 52:00Speaker 1: introduced him like the ladies and gentlemen. Mark Anthony is
- 52:03Speaker 1: fairy comedian.
- 52:04Speaker 3: For I'm telling you, I'm telling you no, okay. So
- 52:07Speaker 3: he had his own show for whole year, bro, who year?
- 52:10Speaker 1: Three years?
- 52:10Speaker 3: Yeah? I was backstage when Mark Anthony came to the
- 52:14Speaker 3: Comedy Store.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Before.
- 52:17Speaker 3: No, no, no, this is when he was married to
- 52:18Speaker 3: Miss Universe.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Wow yeah. And so he he and he comes to
- 52:22Speaker 3: the main room to see Freddy. I'm back. I'm backstage
- 52:25Speaker 3: behind the main room. All of a sudden, I hear
- 52:27Speaker 3: all this hubbub and in walks Mark Anthony. He gets
- 52:31Speaker 3: down on one knee like he's gonna propose to Freddy
- 52:35Speaker 3: and says, you are the funniest man I have ever met.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Will you do me the honor of opening up for
- 52:41Speaker 3: me on my world tour?
- 52:45Speaker 2: No comedian like that's crazy, No commedy has ever done
- 52:47Speaker 2: that since then to open up for like a musician
- 52:49Speaker 2: like that, right.
- 52:50Speaker 1: But John Drake from Houston, he was to open up
- 52:53Speaker 1: for share.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Oh that's whetty man.
- 52:56Speaker 3: But I heard though that he was having heart at
- 53:00Speaker 3: Hacks on the road. I did not know that, but
- 53:03Speaker 3: I just, yeah, I don't know, like like where he
- 53:06Speaker 3: had to go to the hospital, but he yeah, but
- 53:09Speaker 3: he didn't tell me that. He came home with a
- 53:10Speaker 3: big diamond ring. Is what he came home with. So
- 53:13Speaker 3: I was like dazzled, and you know, all of a sudden,
- 53:17Speaker 3: I'm planning a wedding. But I did not, like he
- 53:21Speaker 3: had just lost his show. And when I say lost
- 53:24Speaker 3: his show, they spent millions of dollars on a pilot,
- 53:27Speaker 3: like they filmed Wow, you know what, I don't know
- 53:33Speaker 3: the show runner, it was it, but it was. It
- 53:38Speaker 3: was on UPN. No, no, no, no, it wasn't Worthy Patterson.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Oh no, no it was.
- 53:51Speaker 3: But Viacom bought UPN and the guy in the suit
- 53:56Speaker 3: walked in and said, everything on the fall line up
- 53:59Speaker 3: going in the trash.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Let me tell you, bro, that's a fact. So whatever
- 54:03Speaker 1: she said right now, it's a fact. When a new
- 54:05Speaker 1: person comes in, they won nothing from the old regime
- 54:09Speaker 1: who exists. They want new baby.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he said, I'm not going to get credit for it.
- 54:13Speaker 3: And I'm telling you, my granddad was in the TV
- 54:16Speaker 3: was in the Hollywood Reporter. I mean, I need.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Unlimited.
- 54:21Speaker 3: She said it was the show tested through the roof.
- 54:24Speaker 3: It was going to be a huge hit. I mean,
- 54:26Speaker 3: you know the pilot is, but it was going to
- 54:30Speaker 3: be a huge hit, Like they would have found their groove,
- 54:33Speaker 3: and it would It was two years before George had
- 54:37Speaker 3: his show, so it would have been like, you know,
- 54:41Speaker 3: the Big Latino show. And and Freddy was devastated, and
- 54:48Speaker 3: so here you have a depressed, sober Mexican on a
- 54:51Speaker 3: tour bus with Mark Anthony and and I think he
- 54:57Speaker 3: came back a different person. And and that's when I
- 55:01Speaker 3: called his mom and I was like, look, you told
- 55:02Speaker 3: me not to let him drink. But I'm like, like,
- 55:06Speaker 3: I never knew I mean, Felipe, I never knew him,
- 55:09Speaker 3: not sober. So I didn't know this edgy guy, right,
- 55:14Speaker 3: I knew. I knew like a really affable, soft guy.
- 55:19Speaker 3: And I was talking to Eleanor Kerrigan about it, and
- 55:22Speaker 3: she said she had seen him. She said that was
- 55:24Speaker 3: the third time he fell off and that she goes
- 55:27Speaker 3: there were times before that he had fallen off the wagon,
- 55:31Speaker 3: and she was like, hmm, I think I might just
- 55:33Speaker 3: step back from this particular gentleman for a second. But
- 55:37Speaker 3: you know, it takes over your life.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 55:40Speaker 1: You know.
- 55:41Speaker 3: I found some writings he did while he was in
- 55:43Speaker 3: rehab about addicts that were really Oh look at the baby. Yeah,
- 55:48Speaker 3: but that last year we only saw him at the
- 55:52Speaker 3: airport because we picked him up from tour'd and then
- 55:55Speaker 3: we'd put him back. Is that you that's me? Yeah.
- 55:58Speaker 2: You guys looked like babies.
- 56:00Speaker 3: I know, we were babies. That's when I was dying
- 56:02Speaker 3: my hair red because I was being Lucy. We were
- 56:04Speaker 3: Lucy and Ricky. That's when he was all spelt right.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Because I was the talent coordinator. I was the host
- 56:15Speaker 3: of his Olay show. I got on the Tonight Show.
- 56:18Speaker 3: I called Lee David Lee at the Tonight Show and
- 56:20Speaker 3: I said, listen, you got to come see this guy.
- 56:22Speaker 3: He's hilarious and can we curse on here? Yeah? He goes,
- 56:26Speaker 3: He goes, what are you fucking him? And I said,
- 56:29Speaker 3: I'm the talent coordinator.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Oh that's Tonight show for yeah.
- 56:33Speaker 3: And I said, I go, I could sleep with anybody
- 56:35Speaker 3: I wanted to, really, I said, so don't you think
- 56:38Speaker 3: I'd sleep at the funniest And he goes, you have
- 56:40Speaker 3: a point, I'll be there on Thursday.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Bro, that used to be Jay Leno's taking the shore
- 56:45Speaker 1: at their brother fucking pizzahead right there.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, yeah, But I mean and he did Craig
- 56:54Speaker 3: Kilbourne show, he did Vibe remember that show.
- 57:00Speaker 2: And all the late night shows.
- 57:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was and that this was this
- 57:07Speaker 3: was the month before he died. So this was Riviera,
- 57:10Speaker 3: So this was about three weeks or so before he passed.
- 57:15Speaker 3: And his mom in the in the in the documentary,
- 57:18Speaker 3: she said she came to visit and he had gotten
- 57:22Speaker 3: in a fight in Vegas. That's his writing partner. That's
- 57:26Speaker 3: Ricky and so Ricky Palacio and that's Cruise, our daughter.
- 57:33Speaker 1: He talk man.
- 57:37Speaker 2: And the thing about back then is like if you
- 57:38Speaker 2: like had a pilot that like you spent so much
- 57:41Speaker 2: money and then like if you like they didn't get
- 57:42Speaker 2: picked up, you really couldn't do anything with it. Like
- 57:45Speaker 2: nowadays you can kind of like ges.
- 57:46Speaker 3: Right, they could have done something with difference. Wow, we
- 57:52Speaker 3: went to the Raiders game, and I mean people were
- 57:55Speaker 3: going crazy because you know he he would if we
- 57:58Speaker 3: went to a show, he would take every single person's hand.
- 58:02Speaker 3: He he would talk to It didn't even matter if
- 58:05Speaker 3: it was a huge theater, he would talk to everyone.
- 58:09Speaker 3: And the same thing at the comedy store, like you
- 58:10Speaker 3: remember the dark years and the nineties when there was like,
- 58:13Speaker 3: you know, three people in the audience, he would give
- 58:15Speaker 3: one hundred percent at the show even if there were
- 58:18Speaker 3: only two people there. And and he just he was
- 58:22Speaker 3: so dedicated to his craft. And then yeah, that was
- 58:30Speaker 3: so when he was doing.
- 58:32Speaker 1: The first in the middle, Yeah, that's that's.
- 58:35Speaker 3: His dad in the middle the window. And we had
- 58:40Speaker 3: so he was on tour with Mark Anthony and then
- 58:42Speaker 3: he had one weekend off where he did the Abraham
- 58:44Speaker 3: Chavez Theater in El Paso with George and so that
- 58:49Speaker 3: night was the night he asked me to marry him,
- 58:51Speaker 3: and then George threw us an engagement party after the show.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Regardless, medios bro that said that Jeorde never does anything
- 59:02Speaker 1: for anybody. He just toldn't brag about it or trying
- 59:08Speaker 1: to get.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Like dude, like for the people that like like I
- 59:13Speaker 2: don't know anything about this about Mark Anthony, so like
- 59:16Speaker 2: they just put this puts Mark Anthony like in a
- 59:18Speaker 2: cool fucking level of him just being like like if
- 59:20Speaker 2: I could taking a comedian on the role like this,
- 59:22Speaker 2: and you know who.
- 59:23Speaker 3: We got to be really close with. And I was
- 59:25Speaker 3: going to interview him for the documentary but it never happened,
- 59:28Speaker 3: and he just passed the Clito and the Clytones.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Bro from Jimmy Kimmel.
- 59:37Speaker 3: See I'm saying around Clito.
- 59:40Speaker 1: In English.
- 59:41Speaker 3: Yeah yeah. And because he called me after Freddy died
- 59:45Speaker 3: and was like telling me how close they got on
- 59:48Speaker 3: the tour.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's right, because he's the trumpet player for
- 59:53Speaker 1: the his band play for Mark Anthony. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 1: no wonder Okay. I sat and I said on the
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: play next to Glito's father, Oh Senior, Yeah, we're oh wow. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: That that broke me up, seeing how.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Where can people watch a documentary or the movie.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: So it's streaming right now. You can watch it on Amazon,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: you can watch it on Google Play, you can watch
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: it on YouTube, and uh, we're very, very very excited
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: about it. And we got look at the reviews. We
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: got lots of good reviews, all five stars. Oh yeah,
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: so apparently please review and put stars because that's what
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: feeds the algorithm gods like every everything is digital.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: She's what regardless? How is your daughter?
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: No, she is twenty four? God damn she just graduated college. Yeah,
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: oh yeah, you have the trailer.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: My dad got like his favorite English word he says
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: for everything.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Killed.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: That's one of the first specials I've seen middle school.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Really, I'm gonna let.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Your kids know where they came from. My dad told
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: me where I came from. Someone else.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: You know, I'll never forget where you're getting from.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: My ball. Let's right, makes you sure?
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: The owner of the comedy store took a lik was reading.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: It was a good seven years of Panthus, mop and
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Puke and I was Richard Pryor's little driving when you
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: saw pieware Dad, I've.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Got athletes, but you don't have to feel on your feet.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Started talking about his dad, and he started talking about
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: the Mexican and something quitch for him every night, feeling
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: the energy that he would put out.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: This is what he was meant to do, karate Fred.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: So it was just this Roman.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: It was phone calls.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: That's me.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: There was a basket all.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: He had to go out on the road to make money.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: But while he was out there, he took a toll On.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: As he's driving from this casino, Chatty tells him that
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: the show doesn't go and he falls off the.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Wagon, buffled out the wagon. Lucy Walkyote's dog, the fucking idiot, regardless,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: regardless of regardless.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Damn, Marcos did the whole thing himself. Like you know
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: that movie Dolomite, right where they just three people did it.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: It was me and Marcus and Marcos' wife Robin, and
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: we just we just made this movie. And I mean,
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: I feel like I'm a ghost that has unfinished business, right,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: Like I know that Freddy needed his legacy to be established,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: and it's taken me way too long.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Well, I feel like you have so much content of
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Freddy because I feel like there's so much that you
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: can watch online. But I feel like you have so
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: maybe like so much like footage of a standouy. I
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: don't home video all.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Of this, all of the stuff that's on there, None
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: of that is mine. Like people have been monetizing him
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: since because he died before the internet, ye right, Like
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: he died in two thousand and five, So I didn't
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: even pay attention to what that was. What are people saying?
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Are people I'm because somebody say, you're a ghost. Hout
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: my pants, fucking high wisdom, horny man over there, we
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: got horny people canseled his gun for five minutes, put
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: him on the closet for five minutes.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: She's a widow girl ghost.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: How would you hold him if you was in the path.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: The roast, the roast where they were making fun of
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: her dead husband.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, oh sure, hard thing.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but I talk about I mean, I talk about
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: my episode to the.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Final cut of the documentary since and didn't get it
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: to be on it.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: No, I have so many people that wanted to be
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: on it that we just didn't get to. Joe Coy
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: wanted to be on it.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I had never met him, man. No, No, he no,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: he did never met him. Brock showed up stealing before
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: pretty so the path away, Bro, how did Joe claim
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: to the comedy store?
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: No, No, he met him at the laugh Actor, he said,
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: because I didn't know Joe Koy then I didn't know him.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: But he called me and said, can I please be
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: on the dot? I heard you're doing a documentary, looking
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: to be on anything?
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Bro, You guys gotta make a sequel. Philippe No, no,
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I want to know.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: I want to know seriously, because I want to more.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Story. You get nothing. So people, what.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Would you have to tell Cruise about.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Like, who's Cruise my daughter?
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: His daughter?
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Regardless me, live your life, be happy. Man, don't live
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: without regret.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Just don't hurt people, right, but but but but then again,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: if you live live without regret, you gotta hurt people
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: on the way.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: I mean it's hard. You know, I didn't teach you
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: how to drive. That's like I felt like that was
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: man's work.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Your daughter name is Cruise Soto No.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Middle name Ileana.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: She speaks Spanish. Twenty four. I know I dropped a
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: lot the Dog Walker.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, well yeah, she just graduated in psychology, and
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: so I think she's gonna go to grad school. But
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: she's she's been helping me with the movie.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Well what college? She graduated from?
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: University of Portland.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Oh, said.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Portland. That's a sickast city to go.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: She liked it. She liked it a lot.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Like if I went to college, it'd be either like uh,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: like you know, Hawaii University. That looks right.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: And actually there were a lot of people from Hawaii
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: that go to University of Portland.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure they want to change the weather for sure,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: you know, like too much tropic, like kind of just
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: gets tired.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Hell yeah, is playing right now? Are they really?
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Are they playing? That's Chievos right was right now? Oh shit, dude,
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: I forgot my fucking jersey at home. I want to
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: go to another game.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Hilarious. Oh fuck, it's tied up halftime. Okay, man, what's
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: up podcast? So what's you been up to?
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: Man?
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Besides doing of course? Anyways, Bro, I went to the
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Day of the Dead at Olvera Street because me and
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: me and Lisa were dating. I said, let's go to
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Day the Bett Olvera Street. Then I see her over there,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: brow bro. She made a humongous Freddy solo alter at
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Alvero Street. Right, but there were so many. If you
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: ever you ever get a chance to go to the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Overo Street Day of the Day event, it's an odd
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: day thing, man. It starts off at the church and
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: you bring something on your loved one. Then you go
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: make the thing and then they pass out. My favorite part, bro,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: chumpo out right. Yeah, but you were there, right? Was
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: your daughter? Your daughter?
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: Get what is that the on the burning thing, right, yeah,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: the Palo Santo, but it's the something else that they
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: that they do around.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: It was hard on you right when he passed away,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: because I remember I saw you there it goes man.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I thought you were losing your mind, but it was
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: just the whole thing, right.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, I remember you walked up to Oh
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: I lost my mind.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: I remember you telling me, man that you still have
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: his original phone number on your phone three one.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, I no idea. I combined our three one.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: No, he had three one oh, and he had the
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: mess hey brother.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, and no, because that's right he left.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: He left me a message the night that he died.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Yes, and I listened to it.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: I listened over. Did I let you listen to it?
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Yeah? And you told me that you because my wife
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: and last way, and I thought we told it. They
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: did in two thousand and six. Oh it's only been
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: a year.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we were.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: We were at the verl Street a probably two thousand
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: and seven. It's only been like two years. So you
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: were still mourning.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: Oh no, I'm still morning. It's twenty one years. I'm
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: still mourning still.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: So what up? How did you know, to do that
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: that special honor for for Freddy Solo at the Verl Street.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: Well, because New Orleans, I feel like rhyme culture. Yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: like we well that's why we got married. We purposely
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: got married during well we don't call it Day of
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: the Dead in New Orleans. We call it All Saints
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: and all souls, right, because we had this thing where
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: since we had been together through multiple lives, death was
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: not going to be the end for us, right, so
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: it was gonna just be the end in this world.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: And so that's why we got married that weekend. I
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: just didn't think it was gonna be the quick. I mean,
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I kind of thought he was going to be around
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: at least for the baby.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: But financially did it change immediately that you have to
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: move off from anywhere.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: We got evicted. We got evicted right after. And like
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: Joe Rogan and Bob Saggatt and Love It's and all
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: these comics did a benefit because I had I tried
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: to move home to New Orleans and then there was
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: no New Orleans to move to, so came back because
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: he died six months into a year lease. And then
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: they paid all the bills for that whole last six months.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: They uh, they repossessed my car because the car was
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: in his name. They got me a car. They sent
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: me back to school to become a teacher because I
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: put Cruise in school on a Monday and he died
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: on Saturday. So this is me with a baby on
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: my hip right, going to school three nights a week
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: and then all day on Saturday for two years while
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: I'm working for free to get my four hundred teaching hours.
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: But I think I have somewhere to stay. And then
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: even though I paid, she went, oh, you know what,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: you started widows and orphans disability and you got on
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: the Section eight waiting list, and so she illegally evicted us.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Does Cruise have a venmo? She does? What is it?
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: She does?
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: What is Cruise's venmo?
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Bro? Everybody mess stand out Freddy Soto's daughter some gas?
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Oh my god, she would love.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: And right regardless, regardless YouTube, Bro, there are twenty bucks
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: right now on me. Guys. He's kidding on you.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Put guys, send her money on Venomo. Once it goes up,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: it's at Cruz Soto at cru bro is this is this.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, man, today, don't stand the YouTube. Don't stand those
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: money if you want to send something standing to her,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: just say regardless, tell her to go buy a pie
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: on Mooney, go buy a pie. Did you retell you
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: those stories about driving now, Richard.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: Pryor, Oh yeah, yeah, And I actually have there's a
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: little stuffed animal that he his wife gave him that
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: from one of the nights. That was really special for
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: that And is that right? I mean I'm saying, and
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: it's at Cruisoto, that's what it said. I can't believe
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: she's the only cruiser.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I can't believe.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Oh look, I just broke my glasses. I'm doing great.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: So you live now?
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: So I live in that same uh where we got
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: evicted into. We live in the same little one bedroom cottage.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: But you know, I wasn't going to talk about it.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: But they're trying to evict us at it again. Okay,
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: but you know what, I'm not talking about bad stuff.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: You know what, I'm talking about good stuff right now.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: I'm talking about good stuff because you know why, it's
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: been a long time, and I you know, I went
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: back to school to be a teacher so I could
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: why take care of my baby?
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: So you're a teacher?
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, Then I started a costume
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: design business. So I'm I'm a costume designer and uh.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: And then I taught a class where I went into
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: schools and I brought I would wear the costumes and oh,
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: did I send you? I have a I'll send you.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: I have really good pictures of that. I think that
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: might be on my Instagram that I sent off. But
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: it was a fashion class for kids, and I think
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: it's in one of the little circles on the top.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: It s a uh oh, is this is this a
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: comedy store, Princess Corey. It's probably on the other one.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: It's on the cocoa pature costumes. And and then I
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: worked for film and television doing costumes for that and
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: uh but I had a podcast at the comedy store
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: right before COVID. And then that's what I want to do,
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: is get back and combine the comedy and the costumes.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: And there's a lot of money and costumes. Huh. Well,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: it used to be not yetore because I remember the nineties.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: There was a comedian named Pammy Sue. She was a
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Puerto Rican comedian and she was made costumes her all
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: her all her clients were the drag scene.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: Oh my god, see well that I love me some
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: gay boys.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I love. That's like, if you're a costumer now like
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: back then, you can make so much money in the
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: drag scene, huh, because nobody made close that size, you
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: know for men.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: Oh right, No, totally.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Was a lot of money.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've done like light up coats for burning
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: Man and you know, and yeah, I'm I'm like, you know,
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: one of a kind, out of control, crazy stuff, you know,
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: But I love But I love vintage like that's I
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: love old costing.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: What do you think of this guy right here? Man?
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: He was kicked out about King.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Signira who who was kicked out of King Signet? What
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: you got kicked out?
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: No, I was hosting an event and this guy hired
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: me because he was a fan of my comedy. But
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: it was not what they wanted at this expo. It
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: was against at Expo in San Diego, which it's a
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: huge business. There's a booths for every kind of I'm sure. Yeah,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: so I want think how I'm an edgy comic and
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: edgie comic, but like I was even edgy. I was
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: just I was just doing I was just and it
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: wasn't what they were looking for.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: That's gonna be a cruise partner at the Kia looks
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: so clean cuts.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: He looks presh would I would not, I would not
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: have a problem with that. Well, you know, it's funny
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: because I grew up China.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Ton for impersonating Japanese.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: Kids, Japanese and China, Oh my god.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: Well you know Freddy's grandmother, they called her China because
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: she had she had eyes like that. And right before
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: he died, he was working on some material where he
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: was wondering if he was going to get any.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Sort of h Latino cap Popp called what was your favorite? Praise?
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Total joke no matter what, because he will say stuff
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: over no ron and left every time.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Every time. I love I love the red neck, I
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: love the teacher, I love the you know, he's like,
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: open up a good open up the good book. I
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: guarantee you how opinion won't fall out.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: My favorite was this one because they hit home when
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: he would tell his father. His father would say, go
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: find go find this for me, right and he wouldn't
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: tell him where it is. Oh yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: and then he'll take forever. But then this line right
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: here always got to me broke, because that's something your
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: dad would say to piss you off.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: Ah, But if Charlie will what was? But if Charlie
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: toys you gonna look for it, you would have been
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: looking for it all over. Charlie ware, I found I
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: found it?
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Oh my god, that joke. That's when your father told
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: your mother told you go look for something. You can't
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: find it. But if your best friend told you to go,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: but if told you to go look for it, you
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: want to find you right away?
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: And have you met his dad? Did you meet his dad?
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I met his dad and he would go he went
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: to my he went to our show and gave said
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: oh yeah. And also he walked out to me one time, bro,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: and he said not to throw cigarettes out the window
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: vehicle in the car he was. They found out that
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: I that I got a break around with arrested.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Wait you got what?
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Oh? Wait?
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: So he came and busted your your your privates.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I want to at Freddy's wake. I think I don't
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: know one of the places, fucking Freddy's. So the father
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: was there and love story show brough. I threw a
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: cigarette out the window of a moving vehicle and then
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: the car that was the person that was driving the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: car They pulled him over because I threw a cigarette
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: out and they checked him. But the U Y test
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: and Thatfoo was driving drunk, Bro because of me. They
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: threw a cigarette out.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: So you saved the life by throwing that cigarette out.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: Good way, That's a good way to look at it.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Bro. Yeah, he was taking me home.
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: Bro.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Oh no, you know what, Bro? When he arrested him,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: what did you do? I went back to the party, Bro,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: as you, I want to be depressed. He going about it.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: I got my homie arrested as he went back to
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: the party. Bro stood away for another three days, and
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I left him my message every other hour. Bro, I'm sorry.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: Bro.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: We're gonna have a car wash for you. We're gonna
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: have We're gonna do that. We're gonna do that.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Let's put up your homies fucking memo right now.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: Bro.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Freddie's so father came out to me, Hey, fucking phelip
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: let me throwing ship out the window. Somebody I got back.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I got back to Freddy's soldo father, Bro, Damn Bro.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: After Freddy's soldo father passed away, Freddy's soldo father had
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: a way of finding out what other Latino comedian we're doing.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I guess because he made friends with Wayley Bars and uh,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: he made friends with gay Bro and they would invite
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: him to the shows. Yeah yeah, way right.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Yeah, like five years after Freddy and his mom his mom,
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: his mom's great. I just talked to her the other alive.
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: She's a lot. She got remarried regardless, did you get married. Yes,
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: she got remarried and went to the wedding. Cruise was
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: in the wedding. And because I I, I'm very close
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: with my dad's mom. So I wanted her to be
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: close with her dad's mom. And I wanted her to
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: know where she came from. I wanted her to know
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: her heritage, you know, even though I didn't teach a sponge.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Chico tacos, chices tacos exactly exactly exactly. So yeah, no,
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: but she we would go there every year, and so
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: I think them. Yeah, so no, we stayed close with
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: the family. We stayed close with the family.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: People talk you about Chico stocks like Chico stockles Man, Yeah, no, ches,
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: tacos are great.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: She looked maybe maybe made me want to take a
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: long pee bro my butt. Oh no, what how was
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: your relationship with Mitzi Shore? Your personal god like.
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: She was my she was my Hollywood mentor. And you
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: know what, that's why I left comedy to take care
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: of Cruise because I was her right hand. I would
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: drive her jag down to La Joya every weekend. And
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: you know, like, do you remember when La Joya switched.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: It was like on Pearl Street and then it moved
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: to Prospect Street for a year or vice versa, and
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: Mitzy and Freddie and I were down there and Mitzy
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: and I were both sick, and Freddie single handedly took
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: every single eight x ten out of the one club
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: and then put it up in the other club, and
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: then he would bring us soup and take care of
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: us the whole week, I mean Freddy. And that's when
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: Mitzy looked at me, because you know, she did not
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: like comics and her employees dating or frat nas or whatever.
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: And so when unless it was hers and she said,
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: she goes, oh, he's got the part of a woman. Okay,
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: he's a keeper. She goes, I give you permission, And
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: I was like wow. And so then I moved moved
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: in to her house because Freddy lived in her house,
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: and so we lived above the comedy store.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: I see that was the last time I saw Mitchie.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Sure man, I walked up to somebody told me that
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: somebody told me that she wants to stay hi to me,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: and I and I and I walked at your funeral.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I went inside her car and I said, oh, really,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: she said, so the fellow comics were there, right, all
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: the comics that I started with. He goes, go say
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: hi to Mitzy. So I walked up to her car
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: and he goes, hello, Mitty, thanks for making me a
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: regular back, and she said, Filippe, how are you. I'm
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: good live that She said.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Thanks because you met her. You met her early on
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: in your.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Probably I became a regular ninety nine, two thousand.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: Yeah, because that's when I was there.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when I was.
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: Oh my god, And I owe you such an apology.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: I have to tell all of your fans. I am
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: so sorry that I always spelled your name in the
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: French spelling.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Be from New Orleans.
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: So I'm I did I and nobody corrected me, Like
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: I feel so bad, But I was always like Philippe
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: with the pH.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: That's funny, man, we have here from New Orleans because
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: the history for fools. This week, we talked about the
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: War of eighteen twelve.
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: Oh really, what you do history and fools?
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: Your history for fools? Right? And what happened was, Bro,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: that the British surrendered and when they went to go fight.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: This is how bad as New Orleans was. There was
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: a guy over there in New Orleans in charge of everything,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: and he saw how many truths were coming, right, and
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: they were all manned. So that fool said, well, how
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: long does it table to get here? Three months? So
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: those fools went over there for and cut down trees
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: and started building ships before they got there, bro. Right,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: it was three weeks. And he didn't just he grabbed everyone, Bro,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: you know, like they say, who you should have grabbed?
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Sergeant every one? Three slaves, natives that were around all
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: of New Orleans, Bro, the Italians, everybody, and when they
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: were capturing them, it's o crazy there were, Bro, when
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: they were capturing the brither of the war. How many
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: men are with you guys? Sixty thousand line, Bro, they
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: only had two thousand. So they're fucking surrendered because all
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: the motherfuckers said they're lying about about how many people
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: were there? Wow, lied about So they've been lying about
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: crowds forever, Bro, so that happened New Orleans, bro.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: My grandmother.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Eighteen twelve.
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: Like the they call it the boat that won World
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: War Two. It was the boat where the front drops
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: out so that they can just come right out of
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: the water on the land. And that's where my grandmother
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: worked at. Uh for mister Higgins.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Wow, and man, what did you follow do for a living? Uh?
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: He worked at Avondale Shipyards. But both sides of the
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: family did union dog worker. Huh yeah, well he was
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: in repair. And then my mom's dad was the vice president.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Is they like Freddy?
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah. Everybody loved Freddy. I mean, what's
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: not to love? And actually he wrote a script about
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: our wedding and he went around and pitched it. And
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: then I think Carlos did it.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: Well, I'm yeah, you don't know them. Remember when when
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: that show, before that show the Monuments, he has started
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: fred solo one of the first writers and that will
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: quit Freddy quit.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, he wasn't a writer on it. No, no,
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: he's no Carlos Carlos when he did the promo for it,
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: he did the promo because I was sitting with Freddy.
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: This was this was a like maybe a week.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: In the Vegas show before he passed.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and we watched. We watched it, and Carlos did
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: five jokes and like the first four were Freddy's top bits.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: I watched all the Blood Drain's opening, the opening, like
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: the promo for it, and Freddy was like, that's when
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: he gave up that he.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Brought because of Carlos. Three weeks before he passed. Anyways,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Freddy sold a nice man, bro because three weeks before
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: he passed, he was telling that story without putting no
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: blame on anybody.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Bro.
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: He really he did.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: He told me, I'm going to tell you. He told
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: me that he saw the show. He saw the show, Bro,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I recognized some jokes, bro Man, and and he never
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: said that those were his jokes they recognized. He just
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: said he recognized jokes. Yeah, so he never put the
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: blame on anybody.
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: We'll see and I'm gonna cry. But the night before
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: he died, he came home. He did come home that night,
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: and he woke me up and and he.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Was excui Pi.
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: He was so happy and he said, Babe, babe, babe,
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: he goes, you should have seen what I did to
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: these people tonight. He killed at the laugh Factory, and
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: he said, and Carlos couldn't follow me. Barney, Yeah, because
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: you can take my movie away from me, he goes.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: Or no, no, not movie. I did the movie. He goes.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: You can take my jokes away from me, right, you
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: can take my television show away from me, but you
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: can't take away what I do to people.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Bro She and I linebro The said that he did
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: at the laugh Factory that night was the Murderer.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: Oh you were there that night.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: But they talk about it still, like Johnny said, I
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: know he had a killer, said Joe Dia said.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: Too, Yeah, he said, I mean like he like, I
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: honestly think it was the set of a lifetime. And
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: then he died like and and I we I didn't
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: say this in the in the documentary, but I wasn't there,
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: but I heard that his friend lived in Venice, which
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: is why he was in Venice. And so he went
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: to Venice. And they told me he took off all
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: his clothes and jumped in the ocean and came out
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: and said, I'm cleansed of my sins, like he baptized himself,
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: and then he died.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: That's I have.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: Wait, what do you say oh point, break.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Thoughts, waymans, he just feel good. Wow, Man, I know.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: But but I feel like all he ever wanted to do,
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: all he ever wanted to do is make people. Heal
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: the world with his comedy. He was brilliant at it
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: and like you can go his His two albums are
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: out Borderland and Regardless Regardless from Pablo Francisco Francisco And
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: but the director of that, I just talked to him
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago. I called him up and
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: and he and Freddie got really close. It was the
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: same It was uh the same director who did the
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: uh Osborne's. Yeah meet the Osborne's. It was the same director.
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: And so they filmed it over three nights in Austin,
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: and the director came up to me and he said, man,
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: he goes. Your husband is amazing. He goes because he
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: had a choreography, so he knew ahead of time where
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: he was going to land, when he was going to
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: say the joke. And so if when you watch it,
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: his his is like it's a spectacular. It's a spectacular.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: So many behind the stories right here. It's almost kind
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: of we you're watching a DVD and like you there's
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: a commentation.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: No, I mean my whole life was Freddy. My whole
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: life is still Freddy, you know. I mean because I
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: have I have a mini Freddy that I've raised that
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: lives walks on top.
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: You have so much behind the scenes stuff like like
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: just like so much.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: Oh no, and I don't. I mean, this is one
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: of like twenty five that I've been putting together from
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: all these boxes, like this is I'm going through. Wow,
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: this is his Spanglish call sheet. This is his Spanglish
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: call sheet. This is uh like these are and for.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: People are super fans and they just.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Want to know.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: I wanted I wanted to have all this uploaded already
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: to the website.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: But you know, I'm dealing with some because he passed
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: away before, like you know, like now like people like know,
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: like you have a podcast, so people know, like yeah,
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: like personal stories about you and stuff like that, and
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: this is like your way.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: Of sharing No exactly, And if I would have been
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: on the internet, I probably would have already had it up.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: But like we ran into Jimmy Fallon after Spanglish and
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: he came up and he goes, hey, Freddy, he goes,
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: I saw you up there, and I went, Hey, that's
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: Freddy Sodo man. And I didn't even know he knew.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: Jimmy Fallon and Adam Sandler and James Brooks told him
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: you got the quickest laugh and the history of show business.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: I mean it was, it was.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: It was a whirlwind, it really and and I think that's.
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: Yeah, this is only one of them. This is only
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: one of them. Look, that's a that's a letter from
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: Ari that he wrote, thanking Freddy. When he got made
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: from Mitzi made like it. But when he got passed,
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: he wrote, he wrote Freddy a thank you.
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: Letter, like twousand and five was a crazy year, because
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: crazy year because two legends passed away. It was Mitch
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: Hedberg a couple of months before Freddy. That's crazy.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: Wow, Dear Freddy, I got past the comedy Store this
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: past weekend, and I want to I wanted to send
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: you a note to let you know I couldn't have
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: done it without you. Your stories and advice helped me
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: so much through my toughest times. Not to mention that
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: watching you on stage gave me so much inspiration to
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: get better myself. I could not have done this without you.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Love, Ari Shafear bro.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: Wow, I'm telling you and you know what, And I
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: found these. There's tons of these. Freddie would write goals
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: for himself, would write goals, and he would check them
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: off and on all of them. He understood that he
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: had a responsibility.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: To the younger girl to him. Man, he says, drink
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: more ovaltine.
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: Drink more ovaltine. A crummy commercial.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: There it is bro Three Amigos tour broke California. Yeah,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: they didn't pay taxes on this shoulder.
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: He also said he was going to donate all the
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: money from Three Amigos to.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: Reddy was very polite. I'm not so much.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let it go, rule shake up. Laughs.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: I'm getting I'm getting mad hearing these stories about Carlsman
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: see doing Homeboy thirty.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: William Morris.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Yeah, William Williams. He was with the head of television
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: packaging at William Morris. He's in the movie.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: Are are a lot of these things scanned up to the.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Manager?
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been scanning every single one. Yeah.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Yeah, cool.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: Yeah, because I want I want, yeah, because I feel
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: like super fans would like to go through all this
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: kind of stuff, because were you do you remember was it. Uh,
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: what was his name? Was it Jim wud Be? There
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: was something called yeah, yeah, but it was something called
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: latinostand up dot com. Okay, because when Freddie died, people
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: were writing in their stories and their memories of him,
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: and then that I don't know where that is. I
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: lost all of that stuff. So that's why, you know,
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: I wanted to have a place where my daughter could
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: see you know, somebody said, oh I saw him in
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: nineteen eighty eight at such and such or you know,
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: just because Freddy talked to everyone, and I know there's
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: people who have memories and you know, imagine looking like
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: somebody and walking like them and talking like them, and
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: like she's half him and she needs to know where
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: she came from to know where she's going.
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you you don't know the past before.
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: Bro promoters, Mark Babbitt, Leanna machalv Best left concerts.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: Those are contacts to.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Entertainment.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that was publicity. Yeah, because I remember when I
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: left the Comedy Store, I worked at APA in the
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: comedy department, and then I worked at Hype with Stacy Pecluda.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: I just I just called her the other day. I mean, like,
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: I'm finding I have all his wallets. I have all
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: of his business cards. I have all like we didn't
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: have phones, we had like yellow notebook pads, right, so
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: I have every note that we've ever written. He saved
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: every audition he ever went on. I mean I have.
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: I would have gone through all this.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: For the movie, which you know, actually that is like
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: the thing about like, uh, I could.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: Do a second one. I totally get ye, the thatcond
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: one and the.
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: Cool thing about that time, that time period is like
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: before I think, I uh, you know diggitals. Yeah, maybe
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: all this stuff would have been just flowers on his.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: Phone, like and they and you get a new phone
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: and they're gone.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: Yeah it's one with a crack or something like that. Right,
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: you didn't know didn't know his password. Those things would
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: have been lost. But you have all this stuff right here.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: I have twenty five totes world film.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: Which nowadays it would have been all lost in somebody's phone.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: But I understood the legacy. I understood that first I
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: had to take care of my baby, but then I
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: was going to take care of my baby's sick and wait,
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: and did you see how when I made the ole
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: A Flyers, this was like Xerox machine. Oh it's too big.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: I gotta go down seventy and then run it on
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: the Xerox machine and then we'd put it on the
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: thing for Mitzi. But mit Mitzi was really, really very
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: supportive of Latino Comics. Yeah she, I mean, she really did.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: I mean even though, uh you know, she had the
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: Night of a thousand Guidos and it's fun to.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: Jo and uh Joey who who the guiedle guys Joey
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: and something a whole bunch of Jimmies or because somebody
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: kept quitting, Yeah, like they can't replacing us the Jimmy's
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: or the guests.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Lift for his showcase, Yeah, for William Morris.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: Oh no, that showcase was hot and they wanted to
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: have it in the original room, And because I had
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: been promoting his Latino show, I said, no, no, no, no,
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: we're not doing it in the r I said, I
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: don't want you know, half the room is going to
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: be suits. I go, I want the suits to be
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: in the back, and I want the real fans to
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: be in the front laughing. And they didn't want me
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: to do that. They're like, no, it's gonna be empty.
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: I said, Listen, I said, if it doesn't work, you
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: can blame me. I go, But if it works, then
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: I get the credit.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: He the lible. Oh yeah, these all my stuff that's
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: under the bed.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: And then this one I was putting together. These are
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: all like, these are all shows that.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: I didn't collect. I need to collect the Linos man.
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's the girls show in the front.
