- 0:43what's going on everybody welcome to thursday night crossfit talk my name is scott switch i'm the clydesdale she is 2023 legends champion jimmy latimer what's going on how much getting back into the swing of things come on you gotta get
- 1:09Is there really much to be excited about?
- 1:12That's to be determined.
- 1:15I think there's a lot to be excited about and we'll get into that in a minute.
- 1:19But what are your, I got back from Tempe and it's like, it's Christmas.
- 1:29Snowing on the ground.
- 1:30No, like I literally have my family Christmas party this Saturday.
- 1:35Okay.
- 1:36So I do too.
- 1:38So mom's coming in tomorrow.
- 1:39Um, kids coming in tomorrow night, Christmas stuff on Saturday.
- 1:48Then Monday is my wife, Julie's birthday.
- 1:51And then we like smoke all the way into Christmas.
- 1:56And then a week later, it's my birthday.
- 1:58So like, this is pure celebration, two week thing for us.
- 2:03Crazy.
- 2:07So your family's this Saturday as well?
- 2:09So my mom's side of the family, I think I said this before, my mom's one of eight kids and like the whole family lives around here.
- 2:16We go to the Eagles, kind of like a VFW type hall, one of those.
- 2:21So we basically have to rent out the hall because the family's too big with the kids and the grandkids.
- 2:27So that family Christmas is Saturday.
- 2:29Yeah.
- 2:32yeah that's cool i'm gonna let this person in while we're still chatting about christmas but um with all the soccer scarves behind them anyway um yeah so it all ramps up we so this is just my side of the family julie's side will be actually like christmas weekend yeah yeah so we'll do all that um
- 2:55But, yeah, so just everything ramped up when we got here.
- 2:58And what I have to figure out is, you know, last year I did the Hot Ones Challenge on my birthday and made it a live show.
- 3:06What am I going to do this year to top it?
- 3:09We're supposed to be doing Linda.
- 3:11Oh, my gosh.
- 3:15You forgot about that?
- 3:17Totally.
- 3:19Okay, well, we'll discuss it.
- 3:21We'll think about it.
- 3:25All right.
- 3:26Well, one of the reasons we're here, and I want to get this news off the top because I missed it somehow.
- 3:31Did you see when Andrea Nistler is pregnant?
- 3:35No.
- 3:37Yeah.
- 3:37I'm going to share my screen.
- 3:41So it totally slipped by me.
- 3:45Actually, Kat sent me the reel today, but it's about the two nerdiest parents in Minnesota.
- 3:58And they're actually dancing to You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon.
- 4:02Oh, boy.
- 4:02I know it's old news.
- 4:03Ken, I said I missed it.
- 4:06I didn't know, so it's brand new news to me.
- 4:08Are they married?
- 4:10Yeah.
- 4:12Oh, I didn't know that.
- 4:16I swear she was just on Savan Lake not even a year ago, and she just had a boyfriend.
- 4:22What does this look like?
- 4:26When did they get married?
- 4:29I don't know.
- 4:30I thought they'd been married a while, but so yeah.
- 4:36So Andrew Nistler is pregnant.
- 4:38Super cool.
- 4:40I just wanted to get that out off the top before we get mixed up in all the other stuff.
- 4:44But we're really here to kind of like wrap up legends.
- 4:48That's our main thing tonight.
- 4:49Jamie has to go right at nine o'clock.
- 4:52So we won't be able to like just kind of hang out all night like normal, but
- 4:56But we want to get all this in.
- 4:58We mentioned off the top, Jamie, 2023 Legends Champion, 40 to 44 division.
- 5:05Your first time competing in that division.
- 5:08So I brought on Andrew.
- 5:11Andrew reached out to me, wanted to help out because he has a completely different perspective.
- 5:18And just to let the audience know, I'm going to keep talking for a second, is I was at Athlete Briefing.
- 5:25And Joe and Bob came out and they were introducing everybody, parts of their teams.
- 5:29And they said, we have this original six skeleton crew.
- 5:34And they introduced those six.
- 5:37And then they said, we're bringing on a seventh.
- 5:41And that seventh is Andrew Sten.
- 5:46So I jumped through the roof when I heard that because nobody works harder than this man.
- 5:53Nobody volunteers his time more.
- 5:55He is one of the best dudes in the CrossFit space.
- 5:58And I am so that they brought him on as part of their crew.
- 6:03And he's only I mean, it was an amazing crew to begin with.
- 6:07And he's only going to elevate that.
- 6:08So congratulations, Andrew.
- 6:11thank you yeah and I had no idea it was it was complete surprise to me I I really didn't even know about the skeleton crew really until recently but I knew that that group had been they've been running it since no since I first started going four years ago and so yeah I was just like I was blown away yeah such a cool such a cool thing for you
- 6:35So you're here to give a perspective from, I guess, part of the skeleton crew and volunteer experience at Legends.
- 6:46So I saw what was going on for the volunteers, and I thought it was an A-plus way that a comp takes care of their people.
- 6:57I want to hear from you what you thought.
- 7:00They do an awesome job.
- 7:02Bob, Joe, Sarah, Joe's wife, Amy, and Aaron Halda.
- 7:10Aaron was the head of the Reset Gear team.
- 7:15And then I'm sure Jamie's met DJ.
- 7:20in the briefings, and everyone loves DJ.
- 7:23So, I mean, it's – but, yeah, I mean, they really do their best to take care of everyone because they know how much they're asking of the volunteers.
- 7:35And it's tough.
- 7:36I mean, Scott, I mean, you've been to big comps.
- 7:39I mean, Jamie, you've been to really big comps.
- 7:41I mean, the really big comps, the games, Wadapalooza, Rogue, they get people easily.
- 7:47Everyone wants to go there.
- 7:49And Legends has been kind of like in between a local comp and a Wadapalooza type.
- 7:58And they're getting to that level.
- 7:59They're really getting there.
- 8:01But they struggle to get volunteers sometimes.
- 8:05So they're, they're really reaching out to people, you know, locally and everywhere.
- 8:10And so, and then sometimes they can only get people, they get people that I can do one day or I can do half a day.
- 8:16And so I, if you watch the judges, like you'll see sometimes faces that like are there and then aren't there.
- 8:23And so, I mean, and that's what they deal with them, but they, they make it work and they are so appreciative of everyone that, that,
- 8:31takes their time out of their weekend to support what they're doing.
- 8:38So I got to be in the volunteer lounge to eat because for the first time ever, media were fed by the event organizers, which blew my mind.
- 8:51When I first saw you in there, I was like, what's he doing in here?
- 8:55But that's really cool.
- 8:57That's great that they took care of you like that.
- 8:59Media, vendors, and volunteers.
- 9:03And how smart is that?
- 9:05Vendors pay for the competition for you.
- 9:08Media publicize the competition for you.
- 9:11Those two people happy has to be a great thing for the competition.
- 9:16Yeah, I mean, it just helps to spread the word of what they do for people.
- 9:20I mean, like you said, to keep the media people happy, they're going to bend over backwards to get the content out and to make really awesome content.
- 9:29And if you've seen any of the content that some of the photographers and stuff have been doing, they've been doing a lot.
- 9:40yeah, be relentless.
- 9:41And I have really hooked up.
- 9:42We've talked all week.
- 9:45I think he's going to help us out quite a bit going forward.
- 9:48That dude's reels are sick.
- 9:51I cannot wait to work together with him.
- 9:53Oh, I thought Jamie lost power again.
- 10:00So then what about, what about like, I saw shoes for the judges and,
- 10:09All of that stuff.
- 10:11Yeah.
- 10:11First form.
- 10:12Like they did, they did the shirts, but they did the apparel for everyone for volunteers and athletes.
- 10:19Tier came in and they, they, if you volunteered, I think, I think the minimum of three days, I think if you did at least three days, you got a pair of shoes from tier, which is really cool.
- 10:30No, every volunteer got a backpack, a virus backpack.
- 10:34like a nice backpack.
- 10:36And what's really cool, one thing that they did, something that the games does, and then Scott, you probably know this, you get a coin.
- 10:44You get a challenge coin.
- 10:46They usually give it to us on Thursday at the volunteer dinner.
- 10:49But it's really cool.
- 10:50It's a cool memento for people that go to the games to get it.
- 10:54It's different every year.
- 10:57All the volunteers get one.
- 10:58The judges get a special judge one, which is really neat for judges.
- 11:02But it's just cool because you can collect them.
- 11:05But then they did patches for this event.
- 11:10And then apparently Sarah was looking at that.
- 11:12She saw, oh, they do coins too.
- 11:14She's like, oh, wouldn't it be cool to do coins?
- 11:16And right about the same time, I'd been on the phone with Joe and mentioned to Joe that it'd be cool to do coins for that.
- 11:24And he's like, hey, that's what we're doing.
- 11:26And so it's really neat that all the volunteers, I think athletes got them too.
- 11:31I think just the podium.
- 11:33Oh, just the podium.
- 11:34Okay.
- 11:34Yeah.
- 11:35Okay.
- 11:35Yeah.
- 11:35So they got a challenge coin to commemorate.
- 11:38In other words, Amy got one.
- 11:40Yeah.
- 11:43So it's really, really neat that they're doing what they can to really elevate the experience from the volunteer staff side to make it something that it's something that people want to go to.
- 11:58And it's really cool.
- 12:00I mean, obviously, they're going to, you know, probably do it at the know in August when they're through the games.
- 12:06But then, you know, they've got that space that with Arizona State, they've already locked in the dates for next year.
- 12:12So I think that's really going to be a great venue for that event.
- 12:19You know, there's so much that they can do there.
- 12:22They can make use of the pool every year if they want to, or one year they'll use the pool.
- 12:26They've got soccer fields.
- 12:28If they get used to the soccer fields.
- 12:31However the deal works with them, with the school, but I really think that there's a lot of potential there.
- 12:38And who doesn't want to go to Arizona in December?
- 12:43And the weather was amazing.
- 12:46Just take lots of water bottles.
- 12:50But that leads me to another point.
- 12:55To pull off a cool event with multiple floors requires a lot of volunteers.
- 13:05So if someone is interested in volunteering for Legends next year, how would they go about doing that?
- 13:16I, they'll probably put it out.
- 13:17I think this year they announced it somewhere around June or July.
- 13:21I know it was before the games that they announced that they were looking for volunteers.
- 13:26But yeah, they just, they just throw it out there.
- 13:28I'm part of the skeleton crew now.
- 13:30Just reach out to me.
- 13:31I'll take care of it.
- 13:34I'll put your name on the list.
- 13:37I'll send it up the chain.
- 13:41Somewhere in the summertime, they'll start looking for volunteers.
- 13:48Try to get as many as possible.
- 13:51It's long days, but it's fun.
- 13:53It's really, really fun.
- 13:55It's fun.
- 13:56I was watching Jason Grubb's video today.
- 13:59He did a recap of a bunch of different
- 14:04things, you know, custom from each day.
- 14:06And at one point he said, no, he's talking about, no, no, it's competing.
- 14:11It's hard.
- 14:11He's like, and he's like, no, it's fun.
- 14:13But then he's like, well, it's not really fun.
- 14:16The competition is not fun.
- 14:18Cause it's real, really hard.
- 14:20And it's really, really draining.
- 14:23But, and I posted a comment on it.
- 14:25It's like, it's, we get, no, at least for me, I get a lot of joy and fulfillment out of doing it.
- 14:32I mean, it's long days.
- 14:33It's hard work.
- 14:35But I enjoy helping put on the event for the athletes.
- 14:38It's something that I get a lot of positive energy from.
- 14:44That's how you and I met.
- 14:45Yeah.
- 14:46We've all appeared at the same event.
- 14:49We got to know each other.
- 14:50We've been hanging out ever since at different CrossFit events.
- 14:53And it's like every time you go to an event, it's like hanging out with your friends.
- 14:57You're all busting your ass.
- 14:59You're all doing everything you need to do, but you get to hang out with your friends while you're doing it.
- 15:03Yeah.
- 15:04We call it a family reunion.
- 15:07I'm sure Jamie's seen some of the same judges at all the events.
- 15:12I mean, we're this tight-knit group.
- 15:15And there's... She knows your names.
- 15:18She's got a list.
- 15:21I try.
- 15:23No, but I mean, I think there's like, I'd say, what, 40 of us?
- 15:27Like that...
- 15:28I mean, that go to the games, I go to rogue, you know, that some of us go to MFC, you know, the semifinal events, you know, Wadapalooza, you know, it's like we meet each other and we just know we get connected and we stay connected.
- 15:43And when we see each other at the, at the events, we just have a good time.
- 15:46We enjoy spending the time together.
- 15:50So at legends, I've said this early in the week, uh,
- 15:54It was special.
- 15:55It was different than other events I've been to.
- 15:58And I truly believe because the event organizers care so much that they're out and they're present at all times.
- 16:06And we'll take a question, we'll take a comment from anybody, from a volunteer, from an athlete.
- 16:13There's nobody that they're above and they'll receive that and they'll act on it if needed.
- 16:21Interesting.
- 16:23and i think that's what makes it special yeah yeah they're always trying to make it better i mean there's there's a time like we're at one point you know for uh probably about the time that jamie's group is going on on the on floor two for the the squat clean handstand walk uh event um
- 16:47Got a corner.
- 16:47It's like we need judges.
- 16:49We need judges.
- 16:50And like some of us, we floor one had just gotten done.
- 16:53And so those people were tired.
- 16:54They'd done the same event all day long.
- 16:57So I'm like, OK, they need a little bit of a break.
- 17:00Bob jumped up and like, I'll go.
- 17:03Bob Jennings hopped on the floor and he judged a heat.
- 17:07I mean, they're not afraid to get out there and do stuff like that.
- 17:11They'll clean up.
- 17:12I mean, I don't know if you saw the recap video.
- 17:14I mean, after H&I, they're cleaning up the place.
- 17:17I think there's a picture of Joe with the floor cleaner getting the floor clean.
- 17:23So, I mean, they do what needs to get done.
- 17:30So I want to give you a couple of minutes just to like give your last overall impressions of the event.
- 17:36And then we'll let you go to get on with your night.
- 17:39And I'm going to talk to Jamie about the events themselves and how those went.
- 17:45I, it was, it was really, really a great event.
- 17:48I mean, I started saying the last time I was in Arizona was in 2020 for the legends event.
- 17:54The first year I'd done it.
- 17:55That was no COVID.
- 17:57They rented the,
- 18:00parking lot a good year the parking lot of the reds since i read cleveland indians spring training facility and so there's outdoor event first day rain cold rain the people in arizona said we haven't we haven't had rain here in nine months and it rained all day long wiped out the entire first day and so it's just wiped out an entire day of competition
- 18:23But then the next day, we just got going.
- 18:26I mean, it was cold.
- 18:27It was outside.
- 18:28I mean, it was a crazy event.
- 18:30I mean, the people there, like, OK, they had to draw circles on the ground and say, OK, people have to stand in these circles to keep the distance.
- 18:39But just the way the event has grown.
- 18:42I mean, the next year was in San Diego.
- 18:44And then last year was at Mayhem.
- 18:47You know, it's just every year it's gone up and up and up.
- 18:52The fact that it was at Mayhem last year that they saw the potential.
- 18:55They're like, oh, we'll help you out with that.
- 18:57know and it was that was a very unique experience i'm sure jamie thought that too to do a competition at mayhem you know it's it's you know but then it's i think that you know with the this with the stream that they they were able to do that year i think that just bumped it up another notch saying okay people took notice
- 19:16And that's really helped them with getting the CrossFit Games.
- 19:22And so I think it's just every year they're just doing better and better and try to take it to the next level.
- 19:29And that's their main focus.
- 19:31That's their passion.
- 19:34Well, I want to thank you so much for being on here.
- 19:37Can I go get you a Columbus Crew Championship scarf to go up there?
- 19:44Dude, don't even be like that.
- 19:46That's not even cool.
- 19:49They're the champions, right?
- 19:51Yeah.
- 19:53Where is it?
- 19:54Oh, here we go.
- 19:56Yeah, for all the people.
- 20:00If you can't see it, it's bad.
- 20:02Yeah.
- 20:04FC Cincinnati.
- 20:04Sorry.
- 20:06Yeah.
- 20:10But, but they didn't win the league.
- 20:12So supporter shields, supporter shield team.
- 20:16That's what matters.
- 20:18Okay.
- 20:20I'm going to let Andrew go.
- 20:23Don't get me started on that.
- 20:25And we'll have to get you back on as we move into some of the other events, man.
- 20:30Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:31Happy to be here.
- 20:32All right.
- 20:33Thanks a lot, man.
- 20:33Good to see you.
- 20:34All right.
- 20:35Have fun.
- 20:39All right.
- 20:39Well, thanks to Andrew for that.
- 20:41And so pumped for him that he's going to be part of that crew developing probably the CrossFit Games and Legends next year and be a big part of that.
- 20:52So he's been a loyal listener of ours since we first started.
- 20:55I was friends with him in the judging community way back in the day.
- 20:59So it's been fun to kind of see him develop.
- 21:03Let's move on to you.
- 21:05Legends.
- 21:06This is your third Legends appearance?
- 21:09Correct.
- 21:11So you did San Diego Mayhem this year.
- 21:18They start the day off with the swim and the one rep max.
- 21:24We talked about it briefly on the wrap-up show that we were able to do from Tempe.
- 21:30Swim went well.
- 21:32One rep max, you PR'd.
- 21:34And you really kind of did really good damage control there.
- 21:40Yeah, it turned out okay.
- 21:41I mean, we knew it wasn't going to be spectacular.
- 21:45I'm happy with the swim.
- 21:49But yeah, 16th or whatever I got in the lift is not worse than 50%, so I'm happy.
- 21:57And for me, the swim, you were...
- 22:01You had one of the best races of the weekend when you were behind the person in the lane beside you the entire race until you both touched the last wall with one lap to go at the exact same time and raced to the finish.
- 22:18And you reeled her in and took over one more spot.
- 22:23And that was...
- 22:25Ronic and I were jumping around and Jim and everybody was freaking awesome.
- 22:30Um, so that was, that was great.
- 22:34Then we went into day two, which was Jamie's day.
- 22:40I think they've renamed that Jamie's day.
- 22:42Yeah.
- 22:44Those were better workouts for me.
- 22:47And, uh, the night before I called that you would win event four, you said, no way, no way.
- 22:55Then event three comes and you decide to win that one.
- 23:00So that one was the bar muscle-up.
- 23:04No.
- 23:04Lunge.
- 23:06Lunge.
- 23:07The lunge.
- 23:08Oh, my gosh.
- 23:09Squat clean.
- 23:10Devil's press.
- 23:13Okay.
- 23:13Yeah.
- 23:14And if you dropped, you had to do the penalty of devil's press.
- 23:20Yeah, and that was on the back floor.
- 23:24Correct.
- 23:24It was chaotic.
- 23:27And then you got into the lead and then it became pretty obvious.
- 23:32Thoughts about that event?
- 23:36I liked it.
- 23:40I mean, for me, usually any type of muscle endurance test is going to be good for me.
- 23:47And I like
- 23:48I like those challenges of like, there's going to be a penalty if you don't do this.
- 23:53I mean, it is, I probably would try to hold onto it anyway, but there becomes like a gaming system.
- 23:59If like, do you break it?
- 24:01You know, like make forcing that and forcing that uncomfortableness and the grip is, this is just a cool little twist.
- 24:10You came off the floor.
- 24:11Your first words to me were it's all in my forearms.
- 24:15It's all in my forearms.
- 24:18And I was like, that win may have just cost me the next win.
- 24:22Yeah.
- 24:23That was my first thought.
- 24:25That was not the fastest time, Ronica.
- 24:27I think there was one that was like 30 seconds faster in the next, in the 35, 39.
- 24:30Yeah.
- 24:34So Jamie's answering this question from Ronica.
- 24:36Did we find out if your time was the fastest time of all age groups?
- 24:39So.
- 24:44You win that event.
- 24:46You got to be feeling pretty good.
- 24:48You were not looking at leaderboards ever during the weekend.
- 24:54Now other people were looking at them.
- 24:56Correct.
- 24:58But you were not.
- 25:01So then you go into event four, the event that I said you were going to win because you were one of the best rope climbers I've ever seen on the female side of the sport, regardless of age.
- 25:16You crushed that workout for 95% of it.
- 25:21Yeah, it wasn't, it was not a perfect run.
- 25:26I mean, I'm not ecstatic with that workout by any means.
- 25:31I had a couple, everybody did, but I had a couple feet misplacements.
- 25:36The rope was really light.
- 25:37Um, but luckily the rope climbs are my strong suit.
- 25:42So even like a quick little fumble, um,
- 25:44and reset my feet is, is fine for me.
- 25:47Um, but I think that kind of stuff, like extra taxes, people's grip, and they just kind of panic.
- 25:55They're up there like, shit, I cannot lock my feet.
- 25:57And they either come down and go back up or they just hang there extra long.
- 26:01And again, they like panic.
- 26:03Um, so for me, I just, I really like rope climb.
- 26:07So what's one extra second to re hook my feet.
- 26:13Nicole said, the video you took of the rope climb, it was such a cool angle.
- 26:17That was my gold medal for the weekend.
- 26:20Figuring that out, getting that shot was awesome.
- 26:26That's the best thing I did all weekend.
- 26:29But anyway, what was cool about it is you were one and a half pools every single time.
- 26:35Every single time, consistently.
- 26:38Your descents were unreal.
- 26:42They were so fast.
- 26:44You made up so much ground on your descent every single rope climb.
- 26:50So then you get the panic part for you came in the heavy double unders to start.
- 26:56Yeah.
- 26:57Which should have been fine.
- 26:59I just, I don't know if I was already thinking about the crossovers.
- 27:03I have no idea.
- 27:04It just was so awkward.
- 27:05I just started jumping and flailing and it just wasn't, I don't know.
- 27:10Luckily it was only 20.
- 27:12got through them and went back and it was okay from there on.
- 27:16Um, and the, the single under or the double under rope at the end was the rope, not a rope I've ever used in my life.
- 27:24Um, and like normally I would be able to do 60 unbroken pretty much no problem.
- 27:30I had two trips right at the end.
- 27:32I just, I don't know.
- 27:34It is what it is.
- 27:36So when you did your first rope jump rope, um,
- 27:40Ronic and I are looking at each other going, what in the hell is she doing?
- 27:46Like legit.
- 27:46That was, that was what was happening.
- 27:49And I said to her, I got to shut my camera off.
- 27:51Cause I just can't, I can't keep recording this.
- 27:55Yeah.
- 27:55We don't need footage of that.
- 27:58And so then the crossovers didn't give you a single hiccup.
- 28:04And then you got to that final double under rope and you were fine.
- 28:07And you had to do 60 and you were fine until 55.
- 28:11Yeah, basically.
- 28:13I don't know.
- 28:14It might've been 50.
- 28:14And then I tripped again at like 58 and had to do the last two.
- 28:17Um, but I think I was just rushing at that point.
- 28:19So.
- 28:22Yeah.
- 28:22And then, um, Ronica said, uh, you've been watching Jim too much.
- 28:31Our guy Jim to second place.
- 28:3365 plus.
- 28:36He was in first in that by a long shot too.
- 28:39We do lots of rope climbs and we do lots of jumping rope.
- 28:44He grabbed a long rope so you could get small, medium, large, long from RX Smart Gear because we had to use their ropes.
- 28:54Again, neither Jim and I have these ropes.
- 28:57We have our
- 28:58free roll rope, the beaded crossover, which we both did those unbroken.
- 29:02And you can tell we practice that, but we don't have the other ropes and Jim grabbed along and it was way too long.
- 29:10I like, he must've tripped every two.
- 29:14It was, he was by a long shot in first by probably 30, 40 seconds and ended up getting second in that workout.
- 29:21Cause he could just not get through his double unders.
- 29:22It was frustrating.
- 29:24Uh, Corey says a 58, two is a bold strategy.
- 29:27Cotton.
- 29:32But as predicted, as predicted, you did win that event.
- 29:40My grip was actually okay after that event, Nicole.
- 29:44I thought it was immediately going to blow up just because it was only, I don't know, maybe two hours after the double dumbbell workout.
- 29:52And I was fine.
- 29:53Yeah, my grip was fine.
- 29:57You recover so fast.
- 29:58It is unreal.
- 30:04So then we, we go eat that night.
- 30:08We do the stuff.
- 30:11You come back the next day and you have, is that, that's a bar muscle up one, right?
- 30:16And the cleans and the snatches.
- 30:18Yeah.
- 30:20And so you went and did that.
- 30:24And this is where I saw a maturity in you from when I first met you.
- 30:32And that is that you saw the girl in front of you and at one point you were like, it's not worth... The juice isn't worth the squeeze.
- 30:41Yeah.
- 30:43And you let her have the victory.
- 30:45Yeah.
- 30:47So that you would be ready for the rest of the weekend.
- 30:51Yeah, I just knew that the...
- 30:54Like I needed to have some, like a decent amount of reserves.
- 30:57That was even a shorter break.
- 30:59I think it was only an hour and a half till the squat clean handstand walk.
- 31:04And it was 155 pound squat cleans, 40 of them.
- 31:07That's very heavy for me.
- 31:09That's like, I don't know, almost 88% or something of my one rep squat clean.
- 31:15Like I don't have a high squat clean.
- 31:17I have a decent power clean, terrible squat clean.
- 31:21So it's,
- 31:24I, in my head, I was like, if you wreck your, if you give everything here and can only recover to like 80%, you're going to be in trouble on those squat claims.
- 31:36So, cause I felt super comfortable for through like round two and three, three, like started to catch up with you, but it was like, do I try to hold on?
- 31:44I'm broken.
- 31:44Do I try to pick up the pace here or do I just stay this comfortable pace and hold second where I'm at?
- 31:51And that was kind of in my head where I was like, yeah, it's,
- 31:54I just need to just stay steady.
- 31:56When the reality is it's five points.
- 31:59Like, and if you, if you're wreck going into that next event, you could have lost 20, 30 points.
- 32:04Yeah.
- 32:05Yeah.
- 32:07That was another damage control event.
- 32:10So that's where I like the Jamie I first met would have been like balls to the wall, pedal to the metal.
- 32:21Let's go.
- 32:23And I loved that you made the smart decision to help you the rest of the weekend.
- 32:31Corey Leonard says, FYI for y'all who don't know, Jamie eats like an NFL lineman.
- 32:37I seen tit.
- 32:41She does.
- 32:42Yeah.
- 32:43She does.
- 32:44I like my food.
- 32:46one of the points I was going to make is I watched the Jason grub video and he is very much about like, I got to get this many carbs.
- 32:54I got to get this much protein.
- 32:56And he's very analytical about everything he does through travel, through everything.
- 33:01When you're with Jamie, it's just, I need to eat.
- 33:05It's not, I need a carb or I need protein.
- 33:07I just need food.
- 33:09Yeah.
- 33:11Yeah.
- 33:11I get like, if I get a headache,
- 33:14If I get hangry, it's not good for anybody.
- 33:16So like Aaron tries to avoid that from happening.
- 33:21And I like kind of got a little hangry at night, the one night, cause like dinner was really late.
- 33:27So yeah, for me, it's just food.
- 33:30And I'm like, I'm not going to try to just grab like a candy bar.
- 33:33I'm going to try to grab protein usually of some sort.
- 33:38But yeah, I don't care.
- 33:39I usually just get me some food.
- 33:41Yeah.
- 33:43So then you go into that way.
- 33:44I appreciate that about you.
- 33:48Cause I'm the exact opposite of the competition.
- 33:51Like I don't eat.
- 33:53Yeah.
- 33:53Like everybody's got to tell me to eat.
- 33:56Like Corey, the entire weekend is texting me.
- 33:58Uh, it's time to eat.
- 34:01Yeah.
- 34:01And I'd have to send a picture.
- 34:03I like props to those with the discipline.
- 34:07It's just like,
- 34:09it's just hard on me.
- 34:11And like, I, I don't have that.
- 34:13Like, I think I put everything into the gym and work and stuff that like, I don't have that mental capacity to put into portioning out food.
- 34:24And I just truly don't care.
- 34:25Like I eat until I'm full and it's never really been an issue.
- 34:30Like,
- 34:31Physique wise, like I think I burn enough that I haven't had to like, I mean, I'm so fortunate with my genes that I haven't had to.
- 34:39So like, again, props to everyone who does nutrition correct.
- 34:44I've just been very lucky and I just eat when I'm hungry.
- 34:50So you go into your, your heavy squat cleans.
- 34:53You, you hate squatting.
- 34:56You hate heavy.
- 34:58I don't hate squatting.
- 34:59Like I love wall balls.
- 35:03I just don't like heavy squats.
- 35:10Let me put it this way.
- 35:11You know that your squatting takes longer than some.
- 35:17And so you know that that puts you at a disadvantage, even with a light squat.
- 35:22But then you add heavy to it, and then it amplifies that.
- 35:28Yes.
- 35:30So your strength was handstand walk, and it became evident during this workout that this was not a handstand walk workout.
- 35:42Yeah, not really.
- 35:43I mean, the top two or three were very, very good handstand walkers, like running on their hands, essentially.
- 35:53I mean, no one's as good as Danielle Brandon, but...
- 35:57catrin type handstand walking like very good handstand walking i'm not that good and as i get tired i take longer breaks um and i'm just a little more methodical with my steps i do not just like run on my hands but i do i mean i think i have pretty good endurance and handstand walking and it's it's pretty good um it's just definitely not world class by any means so like the the people that beat me i would say they'd like
- 36:26I don't know, probably one or two of them definitely were stronger and squatted faster, but I think one of them wasn't necessarily faster in the squat cleans, just was that much faster in the handstand walk than me.
- 36:39So where did you end up in that event?
- 36:42Was I sixth in the handstand walk 100?
- 36:52Fifth or sixth, we're not sure.
- 36:55I just noticed there's a crutch behind you.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:59Aaron's getting surgery.
- 37:02Yep.
- 37:02Where is that?
- 37:03Right there.
- 37:05Yeah.
- 37:06I know.
- 37:07January 5th.
- 37:11Okay.
- 37:12Yeah.
- 37:12We can talk about that later.
- 37:17Um, so then, so, so that's pretty good damage control with a heavy squat clean to be top five, top six.
- 37:25So your run from Saturday morning or from Friday morning to Saturday night was first, first, second, fifth, sixth.
- 37:33Yeah.
- 37:35Then you get to the final day.
- 37:38What are your thoughts going in?
- 37:40Is it... You have a pretty... You had like a 38-point lead.
- 37:44I don't know if you knew that.
- 37:46We didn't really talk about where you stood.
- 37:49You had a 38-point lead going into the final two events.
- 37:54I think that never changed the entire day.
- 37:58I think I lost... I think I lost two points.
- 38:01Yeah, like it would... But you won by 36 anyway, and...
- 38:08So I did not know where it was.
- 38:10What I had asked, I had messaged Tristan and asked if I just finished right behind Carrie in both workouts.
- 38:22Like if I just watch her and finish right behind her, am I safe?
- 38:26And he said, yes.
- 38:28So I assumed if she took first and I took second, and that was, that was literally my plan.
- 38:34Like.
- 38:35Kind of, she was the one I took was sat right behind in the, uh, bar muscle up one.
- 38:40And I was like, okay, I can just sit on her heels and hopefully, like, hopefully we don't get middle too much.
- 38:45That tends to be the case at a lot of these comps.
- 38:48It was a little different at this one.
- 38:50Um, but usually it's like me and another person, and there isn't like a broad range of skills in between, and we just keep going back and forth for points.
- 38:58And I was kind of hoping for the final, it'd be sort of like that.
- 39:01Like I was like, okay, just sit on her heels and finish right behind her and you'll be safe.
- 39:06Well, I started the last workout and I kind of tried to stay right with her.
- 39:11And then she had an issue with her belt or something.
- 39:13I like looked forward and she was stopping.
- 39:16She was setting the dumbbell down.
- 39:19So I was like, okay, well, I guess when this one, and then you have some leeway in the second one, which it turns out I needed.
- 39:26Um, so.
- 39:28I backed off.
- 39:29No, this was two back-to-back workouts with a short rest.
- 39:35I never left the floor.
- 39:37You did work out one, six minutes, six minutes of help me out.
- 39:43It was dumbbell snatch went up by twos.
- 39:46So two, and then you did 10 goblet squats with that dumbbell.
- 39:50It was a 50 pound dumbbell.
- 39:52So you did two, 10, four, 10, and you just kept going for six minutes.
- 39:57And we, I finished the 16 snatches and did like three squats.
- 40:02I could have done more.
- 40:03I, but again, I was ahead of her and I actually thought I was in first on the floor, which I think I was first on the floor until I went slow at those squats.
- 40:14And then Julia did one more squat than me.
- 40:17So I got second on the floor.
- 40:19I did not realize that two people from the first heat had gotten even further, but that's okay.
- 40:24I was more about
- 40:26placing behind carry for me.
- 40:28Um, so yeah, I backed off to try to like, again, not, not just crash and burn.
- 40:35You only got a minute rest and then you had to do 50 thrusters, 25 bar facing burpees.
- 40:43And thrusters again, or that squat, like we did a lot of squatting.
- 40:47I say we, well, I squatted to take pictures.
- 40:50That was about it.
- 40:51And then, but you did a lot of squatting this weekend.
- 40:57Yeah.
- 40:59Uh, so, so you finished with the thrusters and that one didn't go, you said you needed the, the big win over Julia.
- 41:07So I think she finished 10th after in the first part of that event.
- 41:12So you actually had like six places on her and then carry almost carry.
- 41:17And then it flipped, um, on the next event where she got six places on you.
- 41:23Yeah, basically.
- 41:24Yeah.
- 41:25So it ended up wash what you wanted anyway.
- 41:35Yes.
- 41:37Just not the plan and how to do it.
- 41:41Yes.
- 41:42Um, I have a lot of issues with that workout in general.
- 41:49Um, yeah.
- 41:55Yeah.
- 41:57Yeah.
- 41:58So in my opinion, whenever you use a lot, this is my opinion, my opinion only whenever you use dumbbells that frequently in workouts, it leaves judgment calls very, very open to the judging aspect of it.
- 42:18Um,
- 42:19And I think that there were some inconsistent calls in the placement of the dumbbells in the thruster.
- 42:30My opinion, just from an observing point of view and a former judge.
- 42:37I never want to see out of competition the placement at the end.
- 42:47be dictated by judging on the floor and i saw that happen in a couple of age brackets and that is extremely frustrating to watch somebody get stopped or just continually no repped while the person that's behind or ahead of them basically behind them because then they pass them is doing exactly what they're being told not to do and just moving like right along like it's another day in the gym
- 43:19I will say this, I think happens in all sports.
- 43:24They were making a point of emphasis about the bar, the dumbbell placement, and they overcorrected just like they do in the NFL, just like they do in major league baseball.
- 43:38And yeah, I think you should not make it a point of emphasis in the middle of an event.
- 43:50Because then things get haywire.
- 43:53But back to like the good part of the story.
- 43:58Corey says, having the ability to play defense in a situation like that is elite level.
- 44:05And I agree.
- 44:07Yeah.
- 44:08I mean, that's really like the only way I like to operate.
- 44:13I've said this.
- 44:14I can't stand chasing people.
- 44:17uh or i can't see him being chased i would much much rather chase somebody so if i know i'm in control and can like dictate where i want to be way better for me if i like if i have to go on sprint and try to hold on and pray that i win a workout i usually redline and tank and it doesn't work out well for me so yeah i like to be able to dictate pace
- 44:42So what I'll say is, overall, I thought the programming played out better than it did in my head.
- 44:50Overall, for the weekend.
- 44:52The last day was not my favorite, but I am not a programming expert.
- 44:57But the rest of the weekend played out way better in my head, or way better live than it did in my head.
- 45:05So I have to give them kudos on that.
- 45:07My only beef, which I've said earlier this week, and I will continue to say for all events that don't do this, is a finish line should be away from the chaos.
- 45:18Wherever the chaos is on the floor, the finish line should be opposite that.
- 45:25So you clearly know who has won or not.
- 45:30And you can count one, two, three, four, five.
- 45:38On that back floor, it was shorter.
- 45:42It was like a waterpalooza-type floor because it was shorter.
- 45:46And when you finish in the chaos, there was no way to tell who finished, who was chalking up, who was waving to their mom, who was doing what because it was just a mess back there.
- 46:04So, Corey, I will say, Corey's saying at the finish line should be clearly defined.
- 46:08They had clearly defined finish lines on both ends of that floor.
- 46:13However, they finished on the end where everybody was finishing up their squat cleans.
- 46:20So, at that point, you couldn't tell who just took the step to the finish line or who was over getting in the chalk bucket or who was, like, you just could not tell.
- 46:30Yeah, it was weird.
- 46:33It was weird.
- 46:35So, um, to their, to their credit, it's kind of sucks for you guys as spectators there, but to their credit, if, if truly the athletes know what they're supposed to do and the judges know what they're supposed to do and the times on the floor are correct, it doesn't matter because they weren't streaming this event.
- 46:53So it didn't need to play out great for spectators.
- 46:57It sucks for you guys that are there for sure.
- 47:00But obviously.
- 47:03a storyline on the floor was not their first priority because they weren't streaming.
- 47:09But they had people there.
- 47:10They had quite a few people there watching.
- 47:14And you still need to tell the story for them.
- 47:19I mean, it was not like Dubai.
- 47:24No, we had way more fans.
- 47:25Wow.
- 47:25Yeah.
- 47:26Yeah.
- 47:32Like Dubai, you could do whatever you want because there's nobody there watching anyway.
- 47:40But at Legends, there were lots of people there watching.
- 47:46And you do need to tell the story for them.
- 47:51So, I mean, I did my pros and cons earlier in the week.
- 47:55Um,
- 47:57And I can run through them if I can sort them fast.
- 48:01They're all on post-it notes.
- 48:06Yes, Corey, that was really Dubai.
- 48:08That actually looked like the fullest.
- 48:11What you just brought up is one of the fullest I've seen.
- 48:15Yeah.
- 48:17It was never better than that.
- 48:20No.
- 48:25Yes, we did, Corey.
- 48:26Have more spectators at MFC.
- 48:29So my pros, and you can jump in here if I missed any, state-of-the-art facility, so many amenities, great lighting, and everything was right there.
- 48:46On time the entire weekend.
- 48:48In fact, the back floor even got ahead at times, which is awesome.
- 48:52Sure.
- 48:54Sure.
- 49:00Open feel around the event.
- 49:04You could get to and from things pretty quickly.
- 49:06The vendors were awesome.
- 49:08I said programming to some degree.
- 49:11I had it as a con as well, but I thought that it did play out better than I thought it would.
- 49:17The directors were always available, and they tried to fix things quickly.
- 49:24Uh, they took care of the volunteers, the vendors and the media, uh, with food, shoes, lots of shifts.
- 49:31And then they had a secluded volunteer area where they could go just kind of take a breath.
- 49:37Uh, the pool was amazing.
- 49:39And there's so much potential with those backfields, uh, behind the, behind the area.
- 49:46And then my cons, I must've thrown them because they're all the way back here.
- 49:51Uh,
- 49:56Cons were how many... And this is inherent that they can't even fix.
- 50:02Number of divisions.
- 50:04So many divisions throughout the day.
- 50:07The programming, because there's so many divisions and they only had so many volunteers, they could only use a couple of the floors and everything was a sprint.
- 50:19Yes.
- 50:22Long days...
- 50:25uh and very repetitive the media space um i mentioned this to them personally you need a place where you can go set up a laptop and like cut video edit video stuff like that they didn't really have that i had to like commandeer my own room to do that during the weekend uh
- 50:46not exclusive use of the facility, which kind of gave it a cool thing with the college kids.
- 50:51Like what the heck's going on here?
- 50:52I want to check this out, but it limited the warmup space and the warmup area for the athletes themselves.
- 51:04And, um, I can never read this.
- 51:12It's my chaos piece.
- 51:13That's it.
- 51:14Um, finish away from the chaos, please.
- 51:18Events, please, please, please, please.
- 51:22Uh, wifi was actually pretty good and we, we just use the guest wifi.
- 51:26It was crazy.
- 51:29Like the school's guest wifi.
- 51:31Correct.
- 51:32Wow.
- 51:33Now you had to register like an account.
- 51:35So it wasn't like just open free.
- 51:38Um, but it,
- 51:40I never had a problem the entire weekend with upload or download speed.
- 51:46So, Corey, I will answer this.
- 51:51Corey asked, I meant to text you and ask how the warm-up area was.
- 51:54Yep, meant to ask how the warm-up area was.
- 51:57So I'll give you some of my pros and cons.
- 52:01I do like the facility.
- 52:05However, I feel like in an –
- 52:09I feel like they need to figure out something for the parking, whether it's kind of like MFC, like we bought a parking pass and that pass got us.
- 52:21And like you could come and go from that spot.
- 52:24This was a pay for ramp.
- 52:26And I realize I'm probably.
- 52:30one of the rare ones but we had scott with us and i go with jim and jim is in the morning and i'm in the afternoon and we have one car and what would have been really great is for us to be able to go leave and then go back but we didn't have that luxury unless we wanted to spend 32 every day and that just gets extremely expensive when this trip already cost us more than we can afford um so parking i think
- 53:00Sort of, I wish there was something they could do for that.
- 53:04Warm up area was God awful, Corey.
- 53:08I heard so many complaints about it.
- 53:09That will be one of the issues that they need to address if they want people to come back to that camp.
- 53:17For one, hashtag no machines, because there was no machines at this event.
- 53:21So there was no machines to warm up on.
- 53:23You couldn't bike, you couldn't, unless you went and took one of the college kids.
- 53:29uh runners i don't actually don't think there was any bikes or rowers there were there were some stuff that had like been like tarped off and i did and i don't know if people a couple people from a local gym brought their own roar if they found these but there were like two or three rowers sitting out so somebody did get a rower out um i personally went up and jogged around the like indoor carpeted track that they had that's how i warmed up for everything and then used some bands
- 53:58And then you were like three people on a barbell in this tiny little like hallway strip is kind of all you had.
- 54:07So not great warmup.
- 54:10Not great for a one rep max snatch and clean and jerk event, in my opinion.
- 54:20Yeah, I think that's going to be the one thing.
- 54:22And then my only other issue is
- 54:27I still have no idea if we won anything.
- 54:31As of right now, the volunteers got more than we did.
- 54:37You got a coin.
- 54:39I got a... So did the volunteers.
- 54:41You got a medal.
- 54:43Okay.
- 54:44They got a patch.
- 54:45I didn't.
- 54:49I'm just giving you a hard time.
- 54:53It's just...
- 54:54Honestly, like we got less than we got at MFC.
- 54:56And I've already said, like, I won't be going back to MFC if that's how MFC is.
- 55:00And I actually got a few things from MFC.
- 55:04I actually got a pair of shoes.
- 55:07As of right now, I got a medal.
- 55:10And there's no communication.
- 55:12Like, I have no idea.
- 55:15Yeah, Veronica got the coin.
- 55:16So I didn't even get the coin, Scott.
- 55:21Well, you can get it back, I'm sure.
- 55:25I gave it to her.
- 55:26It's fine.
- 55:28Well, that really stinks.
- 55:29I would hope that they would communicate that somehow.
- 55:34I would too.
- 55:38I will say, again, this is the first time in this facility.
- 55:43I can't speak to the last point you made, but with the warm-up area, there is a lot of outdoor space.
- 55:50They could use...
- 55:53they could use some outdoor space for a warmup area if they wanted to, or if they could get it from the school.
- 56:01Yeah, I do think there's potential for some warmup.
- 56:09It wasn't, it honestly wasn't that warm.
- 56:12Like in December, if this runs again, like it is going to run, they already have this set for the community event.
- 56:18And I don't know if maybe that's the whole thing.
- 56:20Like,
- 56:21the games is going to be in august and the community event is going to be in december and maybe the community event isn't going to pay and this was the precedence for that but man i think that should have been communicated because they paid the last two years that i've been um and i fully assumed we were getting paid at this event um i mean i plan like i plan my competitions over around
- 56:53So I have no sponsors to speak of.
- 56:55So like I need to win prize money or I cannot do this at all.
- 57:01So I, Travis, I have no idea right now if there was prize money or not.
- 57:05I saw someone ask on one of the Instagram posts and I liked that comment and hoping that there would be a response and I haven't seen a response.
- 57:16Pride is great.
- 57:17It doesn't pay for the airline fare or
- 57:22Or the Airbnb.
- 57:24And quite honestly, if me winning was enough to get somebody to be like, you know what, Jamie, I want to sponsor you, like for real, I would be okay with it.
- 57:33But even that hasn't been enough for me to get anybody to back me.
- 57:43I get it.
- 57:43I get it.
- 57:46So I hope that you're going to get paid.
- 57:52They didn't live stream.
- 57:54That was a huge cost savings this year.
- 57:57They had huge sponsors there with tier, um, with first form with what outlet RX mark here, tons of big time sponsors at the event.
- 58:10And they cut costs by not live streaming the event.
- 58:14I would hope that you would get paid prize money for this year.
- 58:25I know you will, Travis.
- 58:28Carolyn says, do you think people will travel from all around the world next year if their prize money is less than what it got at the games prior?
- 58:36I don't.
- 58:37And that's been my worry, Carolyn.
- 58:39It's kind of been my one big thing that when this announcement got made, they were taking away our games and it was moving to Legends, was that it will not...
- 58:51For one, it probably won't have the same price.
- 58:54I don't know.
- 58:54I'm praying that it will, but I'm guessing it probably won't, which for part one makes it less prestigious to go.
- 59:05You're probably not going to get the same kit, all the gear.
- 59:09Then you don't get as much money as you did in the past.
- 59:13Because of that, less...
- 59:16top names go so then you don't really feel like you won per se because you don't even know if you competed against the best because not everyone showed up because it wasn't worth it uh barbell spin says hard to get sponsored when biggest comp of the year isn't live streamed that's a great point i know it was very frustrating and like we live streamed all my events um but i know that like doesn't go out to everybody and i
- 59:43I don't know.
- 59:44I need to get it all up on my YouTube, and it probably should have been live streamed from my YouTube.
- 59:51But that's one heat, although I don't know if everyone wants to watch 28 heats.
- 59:59Yeah.
- 1:00:00Well, I know you have to go.
- 1:00:02You have a family coming in tonight, so I hate to cut this short because we didn't even get to half the agenda items.
- 1:00:09I don't know.
- 1:00:10Maybe we'll do a bonus show sometime.
- 1:00:12But I know things are getting busy during the holiday.
- 1:00:14Go ahead.
- 1:00:15Go ahead for a few more minutes.
- 1:00:16My mom's not here, so I'll let you know.
- 1:00:19If you want to go into Grubb's recap, let's go through that or whatever was next on here.
- 1:00:23The thing about Grubb is I wanted to say that you and him are so different.
- 1:00:29I watched his thing today, and he's so analytical, and you are so not.
- 1:00:38And it just really caught me as funny.
- 1:00:42But I think, and this is more like an off-the-air thing, I think we need to do more stuff like that with you.
- 1:00:49You're very open at an event, and why not have a camera on you during the event?
- 1:00:56warming up different things, talking to people and we can air it on the channel and, um, and your channel and get some stuff out there.
- 1:01:04Cause I do think that that it gave me just a great idea because you have a different, you're so different than grub.
- 1:01:10It'd be a cool, like different perspective.
- 1:01:17Um, we were going to talk about Dubai.
- 1:01:18I showed you the stands.
- 1:01:20I think that says enough.
- 1:01:22Uh, I'll tell you who won, uh,
- 1:01:25Karen Frey on the women's side and Andreas Oberg came in second.
- 1:01:30Claudia Gluck, third.
- 1:01:31Manon Anganese, fourth.
- 1:01:33And Elisa Fuliano, fifth.
- 1:01:35Watched it today.
- 1:01:36Man, my big question with Dubai now, I better hit the men before I get into this rant.
- 1:01:43The men, Roman Krennikoff, first.
- 1:01:44Ricky Gerrard, second.
- 1:01:45Lazar Jukic, third.
- 1:01:47Fabian Benito, Celis, fourth.
- 1:01:50And Anoyo Akai, fifth.
- 1:01:54can we even consider Dubai a major event anymore?
- 1:01:59Do I need, do I need to show the picture again?
- 1:02:02Cause like there was nobody in the stands.
- 1:02:07Nobody.
- 1:02:09And coverage isn't good.
- 1:02:10Like you've, you wrote this, you're probably gonna say it, but no coverage on day one.
- 1:02:15That's typical of them.
- 1:02:16But that's hard to garner interest there when you don't,
- 1:02:20Again, just like legends, if you aren't broadcasting, it makes it hard to get followers for it.
- 1:02:25But the coverage that they did have was pretty rough.
- 1:02:29I mean, it's that old school, like following one person, show the one person at the finish line for 30 seconds.
- 1:02:33You aren't even following the story on the floor.
- 1:02:37Right.
- 1:02:37And beyond that, there's no connection between the direction of the videographers and the announcers.
- 1:02:45They're separate.
- 1:02:46They're just, the announcers are calling from the feed.
- 1:02:50They can't tell the person to go to this lane.
- 1:02:52It's just, it's so, it was, I am a CrossFit geek.
- 1:02:58It was unwatchable.
- 1:03:01Yeah.
- 1:03:03Carolyn, I think that's tough because of that UK Fit Fest and so many bigger names there.
- 1:03:09I think it definitely also took from Dubai.
- 1:03:14If those are going to happen in the same week and one is going to pull bigger names than what was at Dubai, then I feel like Dubai is no longer going to be a headline competition.
- 1:03:26I'll say this.
- 1:03:27Barbell Spin aired some of Hit Fest.
- 1:03:30I would have rather watched that than Dubai.
- 1:03:36The one event they got to show...
- 1:03:39I was fascinated with just the way the athletes were attacking each other.
- 1:03:45They not only had the three teams, but they split them down even more into duos.
- 1:03:49And it was just so fun to watch.
- 1:03:52And I was more excited in that one event that Spin showed than I was at watching Dubai.
- 1:03:59I couldn't get a feel for what was going on.
- 1:04:02Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:04Who is, Brian, who is Andy Murray?
- 1:04:08This is the second time I've heard this guy.
- 1:04:11Who is he?
- 1:04:12Andy Murray was a tennis player.
- 1:04:15Like the best in a tennis player?
- 1:04:18Okay.
- 1:04:18Like the best in the UK?
- 1:04:21Okay.
- 1:04:23And he was at the UK Fit Fest, not Dubai?
- 1:04:25I think he was at Fit Fest.
- 1:04:31No, no.
- 1:04:32He was in Dubai.
- 1:04:33He was in Dubai because I saw a picture with Emily.
- 1:04:37Okay.
- 1:04:40Something, I guess.
- 1:04:44Yeah.
- 1:04:45Carolyn said they need to figure out scoring.
- 1:04:46Every year they have so many time caps and ties for scores.
- 1:04:50All of that.
- 1:04:53I couldn't understand that.
- 1:04:57who tested their workouts or what.
- 1:04:59Um, I was like, either this is way over programmed or yeah, they didn't test it.
- 1:05:03Cause not necessarily that it was over programmed, although questionable was the amount of squats, but yeah, to not finish any workout is ridiculous.
- 1:05:14Awesome.
- 1:05:14For what you were, you had one guy with one camera walking around the floor and it was still better than Dubai coverage.
- 1:05:25so um so yeah there was dubai and i just i and the prize purse keeps getting lowered carolyn too in dubai agreed yes so so yeah at one point in time they were they were giving out a lot of money um and now it's it's just fading and i think the whole overall competition is as well it's not even a crossfit event a sanctioned event anymore they pulled out of the app
- 1:05:55So Carolyn said it was higher than last year.
- 1:05:59Maybe because they saved money on not licensing it.
- 1:06:01That was probably their plan.
- 1:06:07Yeah.
- 1:06:09That's good.
- 1:06:13Good.
- 1:06:13Good.
- 1:06:15Wow.
- 1:06:18I think we can end it there.
- 1:06:21uh we'll talk more about the semi-finals at some point we have these on here it kind of keeps sliding by i want to talk about it because i think we need to talk about that the event organizers are back to the independent groups and not crossfit and what that means to semi-finals overall um
- 1:06:44So with that, I do want to talk about it, but we'll catch it.
- 1:06:48Semifinals aren't for six months.
- 1:06:50We got plenty of time.
- 1:06:54Hopefully we get more announcements and we can discuss more of the season once we get more announcements.
- 1:07:00Yeah.
- 1:07:01Yeah.
- 1:07:01We have assurances.
- 1:07:02We have the right people to talk about that once we have the final stuff in place.
- 1:07:07So with that, we will see everyone next week on Thursday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 1:07:14Goodbye, guys.
