- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hello welcome to the M&KB NFL podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Connor Warren.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's how we're doing.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: We're both here It's San Francisco the home right of sourdough bread and Tim Linsekum and I guess the NFL Super Bowl So in a football stadium in our way
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: We are no longer, I'm not in my little shadowy basement and you're no longer in your beautiful home studio.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: We're like here in the same place.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: This is weird.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a guy dressed as like a wolf over there.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: There's Australian people making coffee.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Trying to entice us to go to Australia, which I always find funny because like,
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: How hard is it to ask me like I'll just go.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, let's go.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_03]: I do feel like there are less weirdos here though Then yeah normal and it felt that way at media night now.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: I just walked in here.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: So I haven't it's way amped up from yesterday
- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: But you don't have, maybe, I wonder if the story is starting to move on.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: There's the Olympics, both the World Cup, you know, maybe they could be on something else.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: It could be, but it also could be that, like, maybe they found figured out that, like, people aren't reacting the same way anymore to their antics on this particular stage.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: Collectively, 11,000 young men decided to not dress up as a hot dog.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: Get on a plane to California and mess up my day, trying to actually ask for something.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: So thank you, hot dog man.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: And thank your parents for whatever interventions they made on your behalf.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to talk about the Super Bowl as promised.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be our Super Bowl preview issue.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: We've had a couple of days now to talk to the teams, to get to know them a little bit better, even though I mean,
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is week 900 for us at this point.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like we've talked about this every which way.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to start with the most obvious thing.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: Have you come away backing off the idea?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we talked about this being a possible re-match of, or a repeat of the Broncos Seahawks Super Bowl.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: Has the competition gap narrowed in your mind?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think this is going to be a closer Super Bowl than people?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I painted it to be a 3.0 game.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, just think.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, one, I and the pitch was to be here in the first place, I'd like to guess some divisional rounds.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think to get some in every round.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_03]: I only picked against some in the divisional round, even though a few of us in the Boston radio people would make it sound like versus some of the palm palm waves up there.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_03]: I picked against some in every round, right, blown out.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I mean, I, I, I, I, I, I,
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think like the Patriots have a capability of money in the game, I think this really where it is, it look like I just, you get around the sea ox, I don't know if you felt this today, but I mean they feel so calm and confident and it just, it feels like all this is going to
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: It feels like the Seahawks did.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_03]: I hate to keep making this comparison with 12 years ago.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, they know how good they are.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: And they're going in the game with a plan they believe in.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_03]: And it was interesting talking to some of the offensive coaches, too.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: You know, one of them said to me that they're actually starting to scale back.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: And they put in 90, 95% of their game playing last week, and now they're actually starting to pull some things out, right?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_03]: To make it simpler on the players, that to me is sort of an illustration of how they feel about their team.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: And where they're at right now, where they're at coming out of the...
- 3:31[SPEAKER_03]: The other team of being should game where they think it can go on Sunday.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the thing, like even spending time around their coaches this week, I think the thing that was really hammered home was how beautiful the simplicity is and we get to this point and we ask these guys how they got here and it seems like this impossible puzzle to solve but it's really like, you know, for example, spending the day with the Seahawks defensive staff.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: they have a defensive line that plays together.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's no mercenaries there.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: There's no sack artists there.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: So they can retool that line.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's very Denver ask.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: You never know who's rushing.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: You never know who's going to drop back.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: You never know who's stricken playing the run.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: And in today's NFL, that sometimes good enough to ruin everybody else's game plan, you know?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: And it is simplicity that ends up bringing you to this point.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's also the fact that they've done such a good job drafting and developing over the last couple of years, taking advantage of the capital that came back in the Russell Wilson trade.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, I made this comment over the summer and I think it's sort of come to fruition.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: I don't get everything right.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I got this one right.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, if you looked at the Packers in Seattle with them, both this way as before the Mike and Parsons trade, I felt like both those teams had a lot of very good young players.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: and both those teams had a chance of some of those players all needed to become great.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that's sort of what you've seen across the board with the C.O.T.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: Jackson Smith and Jidba was a very good player in 2024.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_03]: He is now unequivocally a great player.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_03]: Charles Croix.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: He went to like a small state school, didn't he?
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I forget what that was.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: That's the first name I brought up.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: But byron Murphy, Devin with her spoon, it's like you have all these young guys elevated and then the key veteran acquisitions, I mean they've hit on every one of those, right?
- 5:16[SPEAKER_03]: Sam Donald, to Marcus Lawrence, I know Wonder Williams has been there for a few years, but he was a veteran acquisition of John Schneiders, Julian Love, you know,
- 5:28[SPEAKER_03]: you look at the different guys they brought in and the picks that they've hit on and the guys they've developed and some of the rookies who have come on quickly like Dickie Munwarian defense and Grey's Abel on offense and it's a team without very many flaws right and it's a team that's like really sort of growing up together and you know I think you can make a lot of those parallels to you know where we were 12 years ago sitting in New York.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: I've terrible, except this has been more sudden.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: That one was a little bit more gradual.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_03]: The rise has just been a little more sudden.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: I've terrible news for Patriots fans, and so I am, I am literally the worst mush of all time, and I was super younger in my career, but the, the, the, the, the Carolina Panthers went 15 in one, and they went to the Super Bowl.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: I picked against them every single week of the regular season for NFL.com and through the playoffs, and then during the, and it became a bit.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Um, got a lot of nice emails.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks guys.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: And when, um, when it came time to the Super Bowl, I picked them to win by 25 points over the Broncos.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember, Kilbrant, God rest his soul was so disgusted by that.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: Our old colleague in legendary Cowboys executive.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: He was a corner you can't be doing stuff like this.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I made my official Super Bowl pick and it was the New England Patriots after picking against the Patriots and every round of the players.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: Who picked them to win?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: I picked them to win.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the reason why I'm bored.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sick and tired of like, I think we both know to some degree like everything that you said is true.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: Everything that we look at for make common sense perspective says the new England, the Seattle sea ox are gonna win this game.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're the only and I wanna get to in a second.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: The one way that I think that New England can muddy this up and like you said and can make their way to victory.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I went complete chaos on my Super Bowl pick.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: I said Robert Spelaine was going to be the MVP for returning a fumble 91 yards for a touchdown.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: I talked to him today just to make sure he was playing.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to play.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: So at least we got that going for us.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm trying to just like, trying to add a little bit of fire here.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: There's no logic.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I picked the I picked Chad Ocho Cinco to be a Patriot Super Bowl MVP once and do you remember didn't take a single snap That's right.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's right.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_03]: So and that was the one they lost the Giants, right in 11 Absolutely traded for Chad Ocho Cinco and Albert Hainesworth.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the same week It's not worried about it.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's still one for the Super Bowl Yeah, I like look like I here's the one thing about Patriots and I
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is where Mike Vrable is a totally different coach than Bill Bellachick was.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_03]: Their systems, their scheme, on defense is totally different than what Bellachick's was.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_03]: Unoffensive obviously you've got the tie with Josh McDaniels.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: But there is a similarity there that I think like a lot of people aren't looking yet.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_03]: And that old one team was, I mean when they won, was seen as one of the worst Super Bowl champions from a talent perspective.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_03]: And then you go back and you look at who was on that team, right?
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: And you see Tom Brady, Troy Brown.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: Matt Light was the rookie left tackle who wound up becoming a 10-year starter for them.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_03]: Richard Seymour was a rookie on that team.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, Willie McGinnis, Teddy Brouski, Ty Law, Vrable himself, lawyer Mowoy.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_03]: And you start to kind of piece this together and look back on it's like,
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't that much worse than the rams that they were at all, right?
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: And I do think there's an element of that with this year's Patriots.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_03]: He now does that mean they're better than the CX?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: I still think the CX had the better roster.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_03]: But I sailed over the last couple of months.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_03]: You start to look at all the things they hit on in free ages, which is what happened in 01, right?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_03]: And you start to look at where the talent is now.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: And they, they don't want to be known as anyone's Cinderella because they think they are this good.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, maybe part of that is just a mentality.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, look, note Williams is playing great.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_03]: Christian Barmore is playing great.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_03]: Christian Gonzalez is one of the best corners in football.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_03]: Marcus Jones is a really good nickel rail.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_03]: It really good return man.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_03]: They've got two rookies, so I think it'll be really good players in the left side of their line.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: See how somebody exploits that this week?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_03]: But those two guys are going to be really good players.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_03]: uh... you know step-on digs has given them a thousand yard season trade on henderson really good as a rocket so you start to go down the list then you add the quarterback to it and i mean yes it's a unbelievable like unbelievable
- 10:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like inexplicable story that they've gone from 4 and 13 to get here, but I do think there's like that parallel to 01 in that That 01 team was a lot better at the time than people thought in the moment.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think that that there might be a little bit of a case of that here too with the 25 pictures
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what's interesting, too, about the O1 parallel to this year's New England Patriots.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: When you're a coach and you're a rising offensive coordinator and you leave to become a head coach elsewhere, what are you not allowed to take with you?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: All the digitized archives, practice film, of all that stuff that exists there.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Josh McDaniel's leaves goes around the world, goes on the security journey, and comes back, and what does he come back into?
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: thousands of hours of digitized Tom Brady practice film.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so I was talking to their offensive staff today and they're like, we're not showing him 2017 Tom Brady.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's a different human being.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: That is like a robot, cyborg, football.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: That kind of is doing things that a quarter that can't do until he's more than a decade into the world.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that is a sentient AI search engine of a football player, right?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: And, but he's like, but I can't show him, and we do.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's grainy, it looks like we're trying to face time your mom, right?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it's grainy practice footage of Tom Brady in O-1, O-2, O-3.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: And he's saying to Drake, maybe this is, this is where you are, you know?
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: And they're drawing the parallels in that way.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's just a small part, Albert of Like.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: I've been thinking a lot about this.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: We've covered so many Patriots Superballs over the years.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: And every year, their hallmark is this overpreparation, and it's a lack of nerves because you're overprepared.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: This year, I feel like the team is just as prepared, but there is a lack of nerves because there is just a purposeful creation of a vibe that leads to a lack of nerves.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: And so, this team is just as fearless as any of those Patriots teams, but they just got there in a very different way.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it's, like you said, I think, I mean, the relationships that variables have been able to build with everyone in that building and the ability to unify that building and, you know, just talking to those guys is funny.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: I talked to some of Mike's 10 of C guys who,
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: said, like, well, the one thing I'd like to know is how it happened faster, because what he built, what he's built in New England, does look in a lot of ways like what he built in Tennessee.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but it's just happened faster.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, asking around, like, the answer I'm getting is A is the quarterback.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: But it's just Drake, but it's also the guys that bought in right away.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I thought what was really interesting about that.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: This is like
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: They had they had a they were a winning they made the divisional round yeah the year before they they beat they beat Kansas City Without Smith's last game as a chief.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's a Mike Malarkey.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: It was Mike Malarkey If you remember Marcus Mariod and he got fired you got fired after the divisional round
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: But what that did, right?
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so you had guys on that roster, like Gerald Casey and Brian or Acpo and Kevin Byrd and Taylor LeWan and all of these guys that had been there, and had won, well, like, it's a little harder to sell a guy who's winning on it, but it's hard to go in and say, well, now the way you were doing it, that was all wrong.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna do it this way now.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_03]: you have to do a little bit more of a sales job than if you're coming into a place where half the team is coming in from the outside.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: And now it's like, well, like you guys want four games last year.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: Let's do it this way.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: Football's biggest game is right around the corner and you can get in on all the action with underdog, not underdog yet.

- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: This week on Underdog, it is the big game.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking for Sam Darnl to throw more than two touchdowns against this Patriot's defense, even though I've picked against the Patriots every single week, and they remain in the biggest game of the football season.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: What are you waiting for?

- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: As your mind changed, we talked about this like two or three weeks ago and you had talked about how you came under fire locally and Massachusetts was this no surprise.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: You are like, everybody around here is like, you know, when they look at Albert Breard, it's like, this is the bad boy of Massachusetts, like getting into fights, just saying the most controversial stuff.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a young, rushed limb bar.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know much.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Just creating around the streets, but you had talked about the house money theory and you
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Have you revisited that at all because I still think that that is their greatest weapon?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't think it's it's it's not factually correct to say that these teams are close from a talent perspective I just don't think it is it's it's not but I think that the difference here is that like like with any game There's always those high variance Luck adjusted moments Fumbles Tipped passes all that kind of stuff and if something just swings in the Patriots direction even lightly
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that this team is out of it.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I really don't think that they're out of it.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and they have a belief in they hang in there.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, I mean, you even see it like Houston really got on top of them.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that Denver game looked like it was trending tours, getting away from the Patriots a little bit.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_03]: And they're just really steady, right?
- 16:19[SPEAKER_03]: No, like, and they're just able to kind of weather the storm.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, look, like, I think that's where having
- 16:28[SPEAKER_03]: Being in an account deficit in some situations might help them a little bit and that you know They they have to fight in claw and the play style is so important, so it doesn't waver.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah It'll
- 16:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think the house money thing is real.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_03]: I do too.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think the house money thing is real and that you're playing loose.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_03]: And there's not this pressure there was.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I look, I was around a lot of those Patriot teams.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_03]: They're one championship.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: And there was tremendous pressure out of those.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_03]: Undeniably so.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like hanging over those teams because for them it was like,
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: if you didn't want a championship in a given year it's almost like you were letting Tom Brady down you know in billet the mad dad vibe yeah and I feel like that's just like yeah scares me this is a totally different deal yeah totally different in a minute we're gonna get Albert Breer's dream bad bunny setlist before before that let's just talk a little bit about can you give me the name one song is a question we're going to do a couple years ago
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember why, but I remember talking to some random acquaintance, not even associated with football.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a life, like a friend I met somewhere along the way, who was like, hey, do you want Rihanna's set list for the Super Bowl that's going to take place in like eight hours and I was like, sure, and then, but I don't know what I'm going to do with it.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: You can't bet on it.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: I checked, not that I was going to.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you can't bet on it anywhere.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: You can't do anything with it.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then I realize when I look down the set list that I don't know any of these songs and it really
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: not since Tom Brady or Tom Pettie played the half-time show in like Jacksonville have I known every song from top to bottom like and this one I'm I'm excited about bad bunny um but I just don't I don't know anything about bad I don't I'm ready to learn oh I I it'll it'll be a learning experience for me yeah I I'll go full disclosure on this one like I I didn't know bad bunny was when the half-time show is announced I think I said that on the show yes I I
- 18:34[SPEAKER_03]: Bad bunny, you have a clean slate with me.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever impression you make is the impression you make.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_03]: I know you don't, I know you don't have a clean slate with everybody, but you have a clean slate with me.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_03]: And we'll see how that goes.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: Albert coming out of here.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_03]: Can you ever remember, can you ever...
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: Can you remember having any sort of emotional reaction to who's doing half-time show so it's funny You said this like I look back at the half-time shows and like 2001 was just like the cast of whoever was alive Still from the blues brothers movie.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was like Dan Akroyd It was John blues.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_03]: She's brother John Goodman and like oh, so you're saying 2000 season because I think oh one
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, one was YouTube.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, one was YouTube.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: Because that was like that was the 2009 11 tribute, which is like the, that's right.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, they had all the names up there.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: That was beautiful.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: But the year before that, it was just like it was like a high school drama department that just gets to dance around it.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm like, why are we taking it?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: And you had the Justin Timberlake thing, which was, I believe that was at the Houston Super Bowl, the Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Albert, for those of us who don't know, describe and vivid detail, but no, I'm just kidding.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, wardrobe malfunction was our term back then.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: I was just at a college.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: You were probably like fifth grade.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't been born yet, but anyway.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but but there were other ones that were a big deal.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_03]: Like I I remember the Super Bowl 27 half time show how epic that was the Rose Bowl as Michael Jackson.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, you want to talk about things that may not have aged
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: that well and maybe let's add a little bit differently right now, it's the iconic vision of Michael Jackson on that stage.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't lived in the now, but that was one that I'll always remember there was like, but it was inconsistent back then.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_03]: It was like one year you'd have that the next year of being like he said booze brothers.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right, you'd have like Bob Dylan at the new port folks festival one year and then just like this.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_03]: What was the one with the space man?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_03]: Do you remember that?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that was before I was born.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_03]: But there's one, like, there's what?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: There's a video you always see.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: I've like the space.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: So guy like Spitties.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: I got Jeff Pack.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_03]: He's landing on the field.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_03]: And then there was like up with people.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: Andrew's looking it up, I think.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I'm talking about, right?
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: All right, our producer and Andrew is looking at it up right now, but this is back when Albert used to have to read just the antenna and his television set to be able to get I have done that I have done that bang on the top of it Albert 85 so I was Oh, you were alive.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: You were like 20 years old by the live.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, oh, man.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, it was his Stanford Stadium.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_03]: The Niners versus the Dolphins, Marino.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, wow, I didn't realize that.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: So I always thought that wasn't like the 70s, but there you go.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: Apparently not.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: All right, a little bit of a game preview here because, yeah, I'm curious what kind of game for both teams.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we can both agree that there are more paths to victory for Seattle than there are New England.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's start with the Patriots.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of game?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: can they play to beat the seahawks?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think if they...
- 21:42[SPEAKER_03]: So I think if they win the game, there's a good chance that Milton Williams is the MVP.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I totally agree with that.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think if there's an issue that the seahawks have anywhere in the roster, they're interior, they're the interior, they're offensive line.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: Minus, crazy, able, crazy, able, especially the right side.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, we're a Bradford sundell.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_03]: you know, we'll see what that looks like against a really good defensive tackle group with Milton Williams, Christian Varmor, Kyrus, Tonga.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: So like I think if the patriors are going to win the game, it's going to be by stopping the run.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: getting to see oxen long yardage, which prevents them from marrying that was running the game in the past.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, which is kind of unlocks Sam Darn on the physical ability.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_03]: So getting them in long yard is by winning the line of scrimmage.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, offensively, I think it's for them.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be by running the ball effectively.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_03]: And that sounds old school and everything I'll stop.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're running running the ball.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_03]: The Rams ran for 120, 130 yards.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_03]: And one thing that's come up consistently this week and talking to people who broke down the Rams Seahawks game is that Matthew Stafford was otherworldly in that game.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: And so really like I think to expect Drake May as a second year player to do what Matthew Stafford did to the Seahawks might be a lot to ask based on the structure the Seahawks defense.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: But what will help you get you there is if Ramanjre Stevenson and Tradeon Henderson have a big game.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I think finding a way to create some shots by being effective in the run game on offense.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: And then, mucking things up in the middle on the C-Ox offense, I think we'll be there path to winning.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_02]: What's fun about this game, I think, is that literally it is going to matter from the first second and I'll conjure my buddy,
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: Purchadition asked Mike Vrable whether this was a must win game this week.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, I love the rea Brable actually Yeah, so this is the reaction to which is great very quick aside.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: I interviewed Nick Seriani one day at the Super Bowl the year that the Eagles lost and Him and I were just like behind the team hotel walking around and he goes yeah Meadie night someone asked me if it was a must win game like he kidding me and he told them
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, yes, that was a joke, but these guys are so locked it on winning, but my point there being that this game is going to matter from the first second that New England has the ball, and it's going to matter so much when they have the ball on first down, because we talk about drive by drive success rate, and that's like a buzzword where it's like success percentage.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: Success percentage is just on first down, you've cutting that distance and
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: if they can do that on a majority of their first downs, which is a huge hit against the best defense in the NFL, but if Drake may is not in third and long, a majority of the time, I think that the Patriots can win this game, because so I'll jump over to the Seahawks quickly and then we'll jump back and talking to the Seahawks defensive coaches, it was the clearest picture that I got all week of the fact that what McVay has been doing to defenses for the last
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: whatever, eight years.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: The seahawks and Mike McDonald have started doing to other offensive lines, right?
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I'm looking at the splits that you're in.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at your tendencies as offensive linemen.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at the stances that you're in.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm crafting a bespoke rush plan against exactly what you're doing.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not gonna matter.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: And if you change, I have a plan for that.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you change, I have a plan for that.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so New England can't allow themselves to be victims
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: probably the best design pass version of the NFL right now.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they are, and that's the one thing that gives me a lot of pause.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think what you saw the Broncos do, and what you saw the Texans do is attack the left side of the offensive line.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: And test the rookies over there, well Campbell and Jerry Wilson, and again, those guys are going to be very good players.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think Jerry Wilson's probably their center of the future, and well Campbell has had a very good year as a rookie left after.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: He's cats, by the way, that he admitted this week.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think I did see, I think I've heard that before.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: He punched a cat, so.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Luckily, Peter, nowhere near this one in San Francisco.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's rough.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not yet.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't checked it all the, yeah.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_03]: Um, my cat Sonny is, um, like he's rekindled by love for cats.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_03]: We got it for our kids and, uh, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a dog person, first and foremost.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_03]: We've been doing this show for three years together and I know I did.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: You had a cat, not that you would.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: When we get, when we get back, this is incentive for everybody to keep watching when we get back.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: Sunny the cat will make a appearance on the MMPB podcast tune in on YouTube Albert's going to have his cat slide show from his cell phone to that it's really cool So this my wife has a t-shirt with him on it
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: You need to wear that on the show just once for me.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm kidding, but she said she hated cats, but she got it because she wanted it for the kids.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_03]: And so I still haven't done it yet.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I should order it now, but I promised her that I was going to.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_03]: Because she, like, I started calling her a cat lady, which she didn't like.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_03]: So then I promised her that I was going to get her a T-shirt with a cat on it, but that's coming.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: That's coming, but maybe we'll just get the cat on first.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the left side of the Patriots offensive line is going to be key.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the CX ability to test not just the physical ability but the mental ability of those guys.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_03]: I think Mike McDonald is going to do what he can to try to create free runs, a Drake may.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: And like you said, like they...
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's actually a, this is an interesting story for another day.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: I wrote about it when John Harbaugh got fired.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_03]: This goes back to 2018 when Martin Dale became the Raven's defense of coordinator.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_03]: And,
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: John Harbuss said I want to play defense more like you play offense yeah and his whole thing was like you said is well an offense can run four birds out of a three by one out of a two by two out of a two tight-ends set they can run that up why can't we do that right why can't we be that adjustable why can't we change the play right until it's snap why can't we swap on the go yep and so
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: The two young coaches that were in the room that were helping and three young coaches that were in the room were helping them were Zach or Jesse Mentor my cousin Zach and Mike McDonald.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and so You know like that's been what Mike McDonnell there's been and I think having the ability to test them and be kind of I beat forceful with like we are going to see where you're at here I think you're gonna see that early.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder too and listen, they're never gonna let me into this
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: If you're the Seahawks, do you test the shoulder of, yeah, you know, I mean, I think it's a thing you get shot.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_03]: How do you not?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like, do you get, like, are you emphasizing your guys?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: We want to just take them to the ground a couple times.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's publicly available in your information.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: You have to take advantage of it.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: So like, and there's that element of it that we,
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: There's just part of Pro Football, that again, like you never gonna say one player shine hurt and other player, but that's part of the deal with all the stuff, and so that piece of it's gonna be interesting, again, like I think, you know,
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: That's, to Marcus Lawrence could wind up having the monster game.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, Byron Murphy, Leonard Williams, like those to me are the guys, like when you look at it, and again, we're naming deep as a lime and just like we did.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: This does feel to me like another line of scrimmage game.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: Like that was the lesson you take from last year, right?
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: We were all,
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's laser focused on the quarterbacks and the the offensive and defensive lines of the Eagles won that one that Super Bowl Speaking of being laser focused, I was locked in a Patriots media availability today Even though I had to get up at 530 to get there and base.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, and do you want to know my favorite nugget like I live?
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: four nuggets like this Super Bowl.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: He made the six o'clock shuttle out of fear that there wouldn't be a six 15.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: I was on the six 15.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_03]: I got three other people who was super comfortable.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: I had a six 30 ride, Lindsey Joe.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: Oh that's right.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's from the ringer game.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was great.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry about that.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I woke up at six 21.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I come down stairs like a just like a hot mess.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: Are you wearing sweats?
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: I was wearing this?
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: I could do this in eight minutes.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I could go in a shower and he's what you're saying.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we don't have to get that far into a K.E.T.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: But my favorite anecdote of the week.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: Favorite anecdote of the week is it pertains to the Patriots.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Watch.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're watching this game.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: Watch when Drake may puts his hands under center for the snap.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what's interesting about this.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: Because...
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: The Patriots are watching how the Seahawks are keying the changes of their defense against the rhythms of the offense.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: And sometimes, for example, the Seahawks' defense will start to show themselves once the quarterback puts his hands on her center for the snap.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to experiment with how early in the play clock.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: In the play clock, can I get my hands under center?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: Because then I can snap the ball literally any time.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't that cool?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's the kind of... That's cool.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: Can I say shit?
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's the kind of shit that people are thinking about like all week.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: Or it's like, you know, or yeah, that's awesome.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like that.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: We see shit all the time.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's the best thing I've ever been ever in person.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: I feel bad saying it.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: That's a great detail.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, is that?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know what's cool about, too, is like...
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think part of that is...
- 31:30[SPEAKER_03]: How much is Josh and Drake's here?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, if you're snapping them all 15 seconds, you can talk to the quarterback right up until the snap.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: So if you go no huddle or shitter huddle and you're getting it the line quickly and you can get out there and you can
- 31:46[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're lined up with 30 seconds on the play clock and then you force them to show themselves and then you snap it with 15 seconds, there are offensive coordinators been able to help synthesize all of that information.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's actually, I think, watch the play clock on Sunday is what we're saying.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, at what point the play clock or the picture is snapping it?
- 32:07[SPEAKER_03]: Because if they're snapping it at 16 seconds consistently, you have an idea of what's going on.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: You said next level this is before we get to the sea hockey.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're really diving into it.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_02]: The Patriots coaches watched the last Patriots Seahawks Super Bowl to get a sense of the volume of the crowd noise provided by Seahawks fans.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: How crazy is that?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that is how insane.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: that this gets, that is how far back that they're going, that is how serious that they're taking this, how loud our Seahawks fans generally at the Super Bowl, how well they travel at the Super Bowl.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't know what the proprietary information was there, but like when you think about like the biggest game of your life and like over-prepared under-prepared like, the Patriots, the Bellachek never left them.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: It still exists, it's just in a different form.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean,
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: Mike played for him so right I mean like that's part of you know that like that's part of it But let's bounce over to Seattle and what's interesting to me Albert is that What is the one thing that Denver did to New England early in that game when we thought it was over before Everything got mudied up in the bomb cyclone happened They went after and a lot of people thought it was christian Gonzalez But it wasn't christian Gonzalez.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: It was the back end of that Patriot ZFETs.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: It was the safeties They were able to manipulate the safeties.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was Portland Sutton right that caught that big pass down the middle from Bonix
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: They were not afraid to go deep on Miss Defense early and see if the secondary is in line if they've got there You know what together.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: I bet the Seattle does the same thing.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's like let me see what my explosive games like early And let me see if I can just start stretching that ball down the field early.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: See you soon.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: I go to school.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: And then that's always been Clint's big thing, like even when he was in New Orleans with Shaheed, right, early in the game.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get that play action where you don't know yet where everybody's still getting their C legs under them.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: And we have guaranteed speed from this guy that we know is going to win on a down-to-down basis.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like, let's just try it out.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and a little Shaheed is... She's just an interesting name to file away with all of this.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: Because I do think like he...
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't feel like they totally unlocked what he can be for them within the offense, you know.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so the idea that you could get the ball down, feel to it on a defense that's over committing to dealing with J.S.N., there could be something there and maybe that gets, and maybe that opens things up.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know underneath for for Jackson's with Injibba.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I've been really getting into lately guys?
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've been loving watching classic episodes of the Office on Netflix, but the only issue is it's not technically available in the United States.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_02]: However, I found a sneaky workaround today's sponsor, Surfshark VPN.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: A VPN is a virtual private network, which allows me to mask my real IP address and even replace it with another IP address anywhere else in the world, essentially meaning that I can pretend to be in Canada.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: Imagine that with just a few clicks of my mouse and just like that, I'm able to stream the office to my heart's desire.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: Go to surfshark.com slash mmqb or use code mmqb at checkout to get four months of surfshark VPN.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: Surfshark has a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee and you can secure privacy with GoToSurfshark.com slash MMQB for four extra months.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: All of these links will be available in the show notes of this episode.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: Surfshark.com slash MMQB or use the code, MMQB and we're back at Radio Row.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: Not only is there the Australian coffee stand, there's a proud booth over there of the Syracuse University School of Journalism over there.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Quite possibly the brightest four young students that we have here.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: If you guys want to know the future of the business we could just walk over there and see if it's not have a booth here.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just pointing that out.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: And there's only one Jay School here with like a whole set up.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_03]: And that is impressive though.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very professional looking right they all yeah They're all dressed up like what's the line from the departed?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: They're all dressed up like they're gonna invade Poland to look at them.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're like uh, and then you have like then you have like the champion The champion's looking trophy is over there
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: What?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, my my my my son Drew is very excited.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: I was face timing with him yesterday I didn't know what it was and I walked over to it.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like buddy look at the trophy He's like don't know what that is Champions League trophy one of the most famous trophies in the world.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we were talking about how the seawks can win and here's the other point that I think Albert
- 36:44[SPEAKER_02]: really resonated with me when I was talking to Seahawksko yesterday and it's like the stuff that like I think what's cool about talking to the assistants and you know they don't really get a lot of opportunity to talk during the years like to explain and to refine the messaging and what's so cool about what the Seahawks do and this is another thing that everyone should watch out for in Sunday is because of the way that they rush.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: What the C-hawks are always trying to do is you're trying to cause you to keep more and more people in the backfield, right?
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: Because when the past rush is working, your offensive line tightens up their splits.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: If they're offensive line tightens up their splits, you need to keep in extra players to chip because if you have outside rushes.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: If you keep in extra players to chip your outside rushers, you have no one to do what.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: Go catch the ball, right?
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: And once C-hawks coach today said, I would guess that we face the
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: just total routes run in the NFL.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: If you were to if you were to apply an analytic directly.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, that becomes a math problem then for the offense.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of pressure on someone like Stefan Dix.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and it's it's and look like it might be Stefan Dix off the field.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know because if he's playing exclusively to the slot like which is where he's played more often and you're playing in more two-tied and says That's going to mean he's off the field and if you're Sending three guys into the route or four guys into the route and they're only rushing for now you got seven covering seven seven covering three or four
- 38:12[SPEAKER_03]: And you might be able to devote one of those resources now to spying Drake May, you know, or you're playing your flooding the zone, like there's just There's a lot Seattle can do because over the stress they put on you and they don't need to send extra guys, you know what I mean?
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: They can do enough in Australia to force you to keep more guys in, even though they're not sitting the same sort of resources after you.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_03]: So it does become a math problem for offenses.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: I made everybody wait for this because I talked a little bit about my prediction at the beginning of the show real quick.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: Another story to just highlight my abysmal.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: past with predictions.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking about I mush the Panthers.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mush the Patriots.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: I predicted Chateau just single to win when he didn't even play one year.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: I got kind of mad at Julian Edelman at the podium because he like dismissed a question.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: So my bold prediction for the Super Bowl was that he was going to muff a punt that ruined like the Super Bowl for the Patriots and then he caught the game on the touchdown pass.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: So okay so that would have been the wanting to see hox.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_03]: So okay I was thinking about the one where he caught the one off his
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: But so literally every Super Bowl prediction that I've ever made has been laughably wrong.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_02]: Mine is 1716 Patriots, Robert Spelain MVP, returning a 91-yard fumble for a touchdown.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: What's say you?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on there, record?
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: Mine was 23-20.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: Our editor, Mitch, makes us to bowl predictions, which I hate.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_03]: I'm...
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: because it was bold and what's not, but my bold prediction was Jackson Smith and Jigbuff is going to tie the NFL record for receptions by a wide out in a Super Bowl, which I believe is 13 by Demerius Thomas.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_03]: James White had 14, but he's a running back.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: So that's right.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_03]: Was that the Falcons, the 23 game?
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: the James Whitehead 14?
- 40:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that's right.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: He came back and they threw him out of the back field and I stopped because they were having trouble blocking him and I wound up getting the foul against the back off a little bit.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like I see the C-Hawks winning a close game, I think Sam Darnold is a different player And I think people have been waiting forever for the other shooter drop like it did at the end of last year But to me like maybe the most instructive Game and where he's changed and how he's grown Was the first Rams game right and that's the one that the C-Hawks lost He turned the ball over.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_03]: I believe four times in that game
- 40:42[SPEAKER_03]: and still gave him a chance to win in the end.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_03]: And not that that was any sort of model performance, but I think what it showed you was, he's in a spot now where even when things go wrong, he's not crumbling, right?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and I think in the past where you used to see that where one thing would lead to another thing would lead to another thing and the whole thing would come undone.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: And it's getting to the point now, Connor, where it feels to me at least like,
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: This is who he is.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's two years in a row, 14 wins each year, yes you had the performance against the lines at the end of last year, yes you had the performance against the Rams, people strip that of its context, which is the Vikings offensive line was seriously deficient, their left tackle was hurt.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_03]: And so I do, I think Sam Darnell is going to win the MVP and throw for 350 yards no.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_03]: But I think he's going to play well enough, and I think
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: He just needs to play well.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, for the Seahawks to win.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think Drake may need to play great.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: He needs to have an exceptional game.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_03]: For the Patreus to win.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: And to me, that's the difference.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, I think if you're asking less of your quarterback, typically on this sort of stage, you wind up getting more out of them.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think as we close this out, my, and I'm curious if you agree with this.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: My closing thought on this, and it's weird because it's not a marquee quarterback super bowl, but at the same time,
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: I've thought this about marquee quarterback Superbowls, and I don't think it about this one.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think this is a game where either of the two of them for lack of a better word like Poops of Pants, right?
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and we've seen games like that where, and it wasn't exactly what happened to Jared Goff, but do you remember the 13 to three Superbowls?
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: And you remember talking to people who were down on the field and they were like, he looks like,
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's about to get hit with an anvil, you know, and who could blame it, right?
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is, you're seeing a Bill Bellachect defense live.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: He just crafted something to beat everything that you do.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: It sucks, like, it's a worst case scenario.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_02]: But even before the game, I think that there's some very real nerves there.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying any of these guys are, it's good bad and different, like, we all process things in a different way, but just who we've seen Drake to be to this point?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_02]: Who we've seen Sam Darnall become?
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that either of them are going to feel the way to the world in their shoulders and I don't think either of them are going to play like that either.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think they, I think they're both coached and deployed in a certain way.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_03]: That's exactly it.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: That's exactly it.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_03]: They're just, it's...
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: The teams are well-rounded, the teams have multiple ways to win.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_03]: There was a time earlier in the season where it looked like Drake was carrying the team.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_03]: There was probably some truth in that, but what we saw more recently from the Patriots in the playoffs is a team that can win the way that I think a lot of us expected they would have to win at the beginning of the year, which was...
- 43:32[SPEAKER_03]: Reigning on the run game playing great defense and then you know getting plays from Drake when they needed them And so their ability to win that way is important and again like with the c-hawks is sort of the same thing I mean, that offense is Designed and has always been designed to get the play quarterback playing fast and free and It becomes harder when you're in long yardage, which is one of the reasons I that's why I think that's such a big deal is like how often are they and
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: call it 3rd and 7 plus, but the weight of winning the game isn't going to be on the same way, the same way you might, but the weight of winning last year is Super Bowl.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_03]: for the chiefs was on Patrick Mahomes.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I don't think that that way for either quarterback this year, which is a credit to have both those teams in Penville.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: You're before that the weight of that Super Bowl, where the two years ago when the Eagles lost to the chiefs, the weight of that Super Bowl is on jail and hurts, right?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: You needed to throw 30 times and needed to not make mistakes.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: And he's played really well.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well played well, but you made mistakes right and I think both of these teams know that they can play to something else Like the quarterback has a backstop, which I think is kind of nice right it puts more on us on the coaches The schematics of it and that's kind of super well that I like to watch.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean I I big it's it's a fascinating match It's gonna be fun everyone.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think this game is gonna suck you suck.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I was
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, it's, it's the dried by viewer who is watching for Taylor Swift the last few years.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: Right, we don't need you.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: They're probably going to be lost.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_03]: But they have a new way of measuring television ratings now, which had to be because they made the ratings bigger and crossed the board for everything.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, great.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: So they just do that with our views on this podcast.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting that that time.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_03]: This is another thing like where everything comes up NFL.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like where, like, the year that they have probably the least curb appeal on a Super Bowl matchup, you get to change in the way the ratings are measured, so they'll probably still pray for it.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: To the count like unborn babies if moms are pregnant and they're like that babies technically watch.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_02]: Second new way of incorporating streaming into it where the number is going to, it's just, it's different.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: As the celebrities walk by, but I just saw Mac Jones, former NBA, former NBA, Baron Davis.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is a, this is a walk of fame here in Conoror and Conoror.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's here.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to a couple things.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: As we get out of here, I'm getting my stopwatch ready.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_02]: I love to stopwatch the National Anthem.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: It is my favorite thing to do.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: Do you bet on that?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, not like no, not a fish.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: Not that anybody here knows about.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and uh, I like doing that on Saturday.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go down to the hate Ashbury.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to see the origins of the grateful dead walk around.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, maybe just takes some psychedelics to get on a bus and never come back.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know Albert.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: I like San Francisco.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_03]: I've always been here.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_03]: There's a great city.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's so much.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_03]: It's character here, there's so much history here.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: Vardy had like three of the best meals in my life, and I've been here for 48 hours.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_03]: But only issue is, for the stadium is, which is where the teams are.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's going back close to here.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to take us about that.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to leave now, Albert and I, so it's Wednesday.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to leave now, and if we get in a traffic and we get in line, we should get to Santa Clara.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: I can tell you how it's going now.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: Last time, the two boys here, I was viciously hung over.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_03]: My last year didn't have felt that work, and I was on a bus where the air conditioning broke and then the bus broke down.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know if you heard the story about the bus that broke down before that Super Bowl.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: That was your milestone in the same, but that was my bus.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_03]: And if I remember right, we were close enough to see the stadium, but not close enough to walk to the stadium, which was about as frustrating as again.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: And that is why Albert no longer touches Southern comfort.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: I have seen 99 berries, but I've got a good so-called story too, but I won't show that here.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, that's Albert Brear.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Conoror, thank you, thank you, thank you everybody for being patient.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: I know we move this pot around this week, that's because we're taking all this time to write and report stories that are on Si.com, give it a look, give it a read, check us out on YouTube, the fast channel, come find us, come comment, and we'll see you guys to wrap up the Super Bowl on Tuesday.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go, it's a Super Bowl, come on, let's go.
