- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags AM.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I'm Kainani Stevens, Brian Sexton and John Ogier with me today.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The Jaguars got a big win over the Patriots last week,
- 0:23Speaker 2: but now time to turn the page and look forward
- 0:26Speaker 2: to their matchup against the Bengals and also around the NFL.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Let's start out with our big things today, brought to
- 0:30Speaker 2: you by GEHA, Government Employees Health Association. And big thing
- 0:34Speaker 2: number one is one year later. It's hard to believe,
- 0:37Speaker 2: but it was just over a year ago that this
- 0:39Speaker 2: team went up to Cincinnati, and we're still trying to
- 0:42Speaker 2: figure themselves out, Brian. We didn't know what that was
- 0:44Speaker 2: going to look like. Liam Cohn was a first-time head coach,
- 0:47Speaker 2: and he was kind of getting into it with Trevor
- 0:49Speaker 2: Lawrence at this point, but hard to believe where they've
- 0:51Speaker 2: gotten to just.
- 0:51Speaker 3: A year later.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, one of the storylines that I'm following
- 0:54Speaker 4: this week is you have the 2020 number one overall
- 0:56Speaker 4: draft pick, Joe Burrow, facing the 2021 number one overall
- 1:00Speaker 4: draft pick, Joe Burrow. And John, in recent years, when
- 1:03Speaker 4: those two have faced off, Burrow always had the upper hand.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Part of that was Jamar Chase and Tee.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Higgins, obviously. Those guys, they're so powerful.
- 1:11Speaker 4: But this week, it's legit because Trevor Lawrence in the
- 1:14Speaker 4: last year has gone from will he or won't he to, oh,
- 1:17Speaker 4: he has. And that's really what the Jaguars' defining characteristic is.
- 1:22Speaker 4: They're one of those teams with one of those guys.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:27Speaker 6: For the first time, it feels like a level footing
- 1:31Speaker 6: matchup where you don't know who the better quarterback is
- 1:34Speaker 6: in the game. I think last year's game was interesting
- 1:37Speaker 6: to me because even though they lost, they led the
- 1:40Speaker 6: whole game until what, like seven seconds left or very few.
- 1:45Speaker 6: And it was the first time that I walked away
- 1:47Speaker 6: from the game saying, okay, well, this team's good. You know,
- 1:50Speaker 6: you knew they'd beaten Carolina, but Cincinnati was good. They
- 1:54Speaker 6: had led on the road. So since then, they have
- 1:57Speaker 6: been a good team. And now, unlike last year, where
- 2:00Speaker 6: you felt like they were going up and weren't quite
- 2:02Speaker 6: sure if they should be favored, et cetera, I think
- 2:06Speaker 6: the Jaguars are the better team, and I expect them
- 2:07Speaker 6: to go in.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Let's do our second big thing today, which is on
- 2:10Speaker 2: the road again. We've talked a ton about the schedule.
- 2:12Speaker 2: You have to play the games ahead of you. But, John,
- 2:14Speaker 2: this is a tough little stretch. And they've gotten through
- 2:16Speaker 2: that first game against the Patriots. Now they head on
- 2:18Speaker 2: the road to Cincinnati and then.
- 2:20Speaker 3: The two London games.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So how crucial is this section of the schedule for
- 2:23Speaker 2: the rest of the season?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyone, anywhere, anytime, any, any, any. Any. You know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: it was a theme going into Denver.
- 2:32Speaker 6: But at some point, if you're going to be anywhere, anytime,
- 2:35Speaker 6: you got to start winning those anywhere, anytime. They have
- 2:38Speaker 6: to win on the road, and they have to beat
- 2:39Speaker 6: good teams on the road. So it's very important. The
- 2:44Speaker 6: first part of the important was beating New England because
- 2:46Speaker 6: now you're going into this stretch 2-1. You feel like
- 2:49Speaker 6: you can stay afloat. There's not quite as much pressure, but, Brian,
- 2:53Speaker 6: in the NFL, there's always pressure. So, yeah, you've got
- 2:55Speaker 6: to go win.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Listen, going to Cincinnati is not like going to Denver
- 2:58Speaker 4: or Kansas City or New England or Pittsburgh. It's not
- 3:01Speaker 4: that kind of a place. But if Joe Burrow gets
- 3:04Speaker 4: started with Chase and Higgins– all of a sudden it
- 3:07Speaker 4: can be a very difficult place to play. So the
- 3:10Speaker 4: Jaguars have got to go up and take care of business.
- 3:12Speaker 4: If they just do what they've done, John, I mean,
- 3:15Speaker 4: last week they played a New England team that came
- 3:18Speaker 4: in that had allowed the fewest points in the league
- 3:20Speaker 4: and they hung 35 on them. They were number one
- 3:22Speaker 4: in third down defense and the Jaguars converted 66%. I mean,
- 3:26Speaker 4: the numbers just keep, how about the Reds? They were
- 3:28Speaker 4: the number one red zone defense and the Jaguars were
- 3:29Speaker 4: five of five.
- 3:31Speaker 5: The Jaguars performed like an elite team. If they do
- 3:34Speaker 5: that on Sunday, they will beat The Bengals.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Our final big thing today is going to be overrun
- 3:40Speaker 2: because the Jaguars have been trying to get the running
- 3:42Speaker 2: game going and they finally got it together against the
- 3:44Speaker 2: Patriots and success throughout that running back group. But Brian,
- 3:48Speaker 2: this week they're going up against a defense that has
- 3:50Speaker 2: Dexter Lawrence right in the middle of that thing. So
- 3:52Speaker 2: it might look a little different. Yeah, they are.
- 3:54Speaker 4: And they're holding teams to under 100 yards rushing per game.
- 3:57Speaker 4: They're very talented up front because they have big Dexter
- 4:00Speaker 4: Jackson sitting.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Right there in the middle.
- 4:01Speaker 4: But you know, The Jaguars, at the end of last season, Kai,
- 4:05Speaker 4: they were only getting 3.3 yards per rushing attempt.
- 4:09Speaker 5: The rushing offense had fallen off.
- 4:10Speaker 4: So far through three games this year, the Jaguars running
- 4:13Speaker 4: backs are producing 4.4 yards per rushing attempt. And John,
- 4:18Speaker 4: last week, they converted all four of their third down runs,
- 4:21Speaker 4: and they were 8 of 12 overall in third down.
- 4:23Speaker 4: So the running game was so critical to the win
- 4:25Speaker 4: last week. because it sustained drives, kept possessions alive, and
- 4:29Speaker 4: helped the Jaguars get to the red zone, which obviously
- 4:32Speaker 4: was a major success point for them. So the running game,
- 4:34Speaker 4: although the coach, I suspect, would tell you it's not
- 4:36Speaker 4: where they want it to be, it is performing above expectations.
- 4:41Speaker 6: All teams want to be the better running team, the
- 4:45Speaker 6: better stop-the-run team in a game. This team really hangs
- 4:48Speaker 6: its hat on it. It was definitely, usually last year,
- 4:52Speaker 6: the better run defense. I think what the run offense
- 4:55Speaker 6: has done so far this year is really important. I
- 4:58Speaker 6: don't know if it's been spectacular yet. I don't know
- 5:01Speaker 6: if it's dominated games yet, but you believe in it,
- 5:04Speaker 6: and the opponent has to worry about it, and they
- 5:08Speaker 6: have to be concerned about it. So far, this has
- 5:12Speaker 6: been a successful run team. They want to get better,
- 5:16Speaker 6: but the start indicates that it will get better because
- 5:19Speaker 6: if you start like this, You're going to get better
- 5:21Speaker 6: as you get used to what you're doing.
- 5:22Speaker 4: And it's worth pointing out, Kai, that it was the
- 5:24Speaker 4: Basial Tootin' Show the first two weeks. Last week, they
- 5:27Speaker 4: introduced more Chris Rodriguez, and both of them produced at
- 5:30Speaker 4: a high level, including touchdowns. This running game has a
- 5:33Speaker 4: different dimension to it when both of those guys are going.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So this here on JAGZAM, we're going to do a
- 5:38Speaker 2: little this or that about the first three weeks of
- 5:40Speaker 2: the season when we come back. Welcome back into Jags
- 5:58Speaker 2: AM and it's victory week so we're going to do
- 6:00Speaker 2: a little this or that. Looking back victory week continues.
- 6:05Speaker 2: They won so let's talk about some fun stuff. I've
- 6:08Speaker 2: seen a bunch of replays of that Parker Washington touchdown
- 6:12Speaker 2: which is spectacular almost as much as I love the
- 6:15Speaker 2: Josh Cameron throw from week one. So which catch were
- 6:18Speaker 2: you most impressed by? I feel like It should be Parker,
- 6:21Speaker 2: but I almost expect it from him, so maybe it's
- 6:23Speaker 2: not as impressive.
- 6:25Speaker 4: The combination of the throw and the catch and the circumstance,
- 6:28Speaker 4: because it was, what, third down and 17. They had
- 6:30Speaker 4: been backed up by penalties and mistakes. I mean, it's hard.
- 6:35Speaker 4: The ball just slid underneath the defender, and somehow... He
- 6:39Speaker 4: got it, John, and kept it from going to the
- 6:41Speaker 4: ground as all of his body weight was going to
- 6:43Speaker 4: the ground. I mean, it's remarkable. I've said it time
- 6:46Speaker 4: and again, and I even said it to him last week.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I said, please don't be offended.
- 6:48Speaker 5: You remind me of a gymnast.
- 6:50Speaker 4: I mean, he's just so powerful, explosive, compact, just the
- 6:54Speaker 4: way that he moves, and that was certainly a gymnastic
- 6:57Speaker 4: move on his part.
- 6:58Speaker 6: Yeah, he's– I've covered some great receivers, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne,
- 7:04Speaker 6: Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell, and It seems so premature to
- 7:10Speaker 6: put Parker in that category because he's in a very
- 7:13Speaker 6: young stage of his career. But in watching that the
- 7:17Speaker 6: other day, when he caught it, I was like, that's
- 7:20Speaker 6: a great catch, and I wasn't surprised.
- 7:22Speaker 1: You kind of get to the point with these.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Great ones where you're like, okay, you did it, and
- 7:25Speaker 6: you move on, you write down what you need to
- 7:27Speaker 6: write down, and you're covering it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I got to go with Parker.
- 7:30Speaker 6: I mean, it's because, I guess, the consistency you expected
- 7:36Speaker 6: so much But what's interesting is Josh Cameron's starting to
- 7:40Speaker 6: look at times like that.
- 7:43Speaker 5: What a player to learn from.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 4: And by the way, one more circumstance that made it
- 7:47Speaker 4: even better was the fact that on the play before
- 7:50Speaker 4: he had caught that, he was third in what, 11?
- 7:52Speaker 2: He made another crazy catch that was a penalty.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And called back.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Absolutely. I mean, he just time and time and time again,
- 7:57Speaker 5: he does it.
- 7:58Speaker 4: You know, in a lot of the advanced metrics and
- 8:00Speaker 4: next-gen stats, he's top 10. Top 10, think about that,
- 8:04Speaker 4: in the National Football League. A guy who most people
- 8:06Speaker 4: thought was just a complimentary receiver, a slot guy?
- 8:09Speaker 2: No.
- 8:10Speaker 5: No, his production and his numbers say he's much more
- 8:12Speaker 5: than that.
- 8:12Speaker 6: And not only does he make these plays, he makes
- 8:17Speaker 6: them in really important moments. They don't beat Denver last
- 8:19Speaker 6: year without his big plays in important moments, etc.
- 8:23Speaker 1: The other day, you're 14-3 there.
- 8:26Speaker 6: If he doesn't make that unbelievable catch, which you just
- 8:29Speaker 6: sort of assume he's going to make now, It's 17-3.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You're probably not throwing.
- 8:33Speaker 6: As panicky as they did on the next series. It
- 8:35Speaker 6: turns into a blowout. He just makes big plays at
- 8:39Speaker 6: big moments.
- 8:40Speaker 2: This might be a Parker sweep, but who's your most
- 8:42Speaker 2: trusted target for him? Because I know they always try
- 8:45Speaker 2: to find Parker, but now the way that teams are
- 8:47Speaker 2: game planning for him can sometimes be taken away.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Oh, you still trust Parker? I mean, I don't mean
- 8:51Speaker 1: to interrupt you. Jacoby has moved up as well. The
- 8:53Speaker 1: other day, for example, they went to Parker. He got
- 8:56Speaker 1: a penalty.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Went right back to him. I doubt Trevor would say
- 9:01Speaker 6: it because he don't want to insult the other guys.
- 9:04Speaker 6: But when it's big, when it's third and eight and
- 9:06Speaker 6: you need it, maybe he's not always looking for them,
- 9:11Speaker 6: but I think he feels best when it's the right
- 9:14Speaker 6: read to Parker.
- 9:15Speaker 5: I can't argue with that.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Just for the other side, I mean, last week they
- 9:18Speaker 4: threw it at Jacoby six times, seven times, and he
- 9:22Speaker 4: made six catches. And there was the release on the
- 9:24Speaker 4: touchdown throw where if you look at the end zone copy,
- 9:28Speaker 4: He's nowhere to be seen. There is a trust factor
- 9:31Speaker 4: that Jacoby will be exactly where I'm putting the ball,
- 9:34Speaker 4: and that's rare, too. So he has a couple of
- 9:36Speaker 4: targets like that. Brenton Strange can be added to it,
- 9:38Speaker 4: guys that he really trusts. But, I mean, the guy
- 9:41Speaker 4: that he throws to with abandon, just puts the ball
- 9:45Speaker 4: out there, is Parker.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think Cameron's interesting here.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Obviously, he's worked with Parker for much longer than Cameron,
- 9:55Speaker 6: but Everything you hear is that Cameron catches everything in practice.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I've got to think that that's getting to where he
- 10:03Speaker 6: doesn't worry if that's the read. So it's an interesting
- 10:06Speaker 6: dynamic right now.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Sort of a side note, but in terms of Trevor's
- 10:11Speaker 2: maturation as well, he's now gotten to a point where
- 10:14Speaker 2: he has trust in a lot of people. And I
- 10:16Speaker 2: think before he used to kind of shade more towards
- 10:20Speaker 2: certain individuals on the roster, whether it was a Christian
- 10:22Speaker 2: Kirk or an Evan Ingram and maybe Parker early in
- 10:25Speaker 2: his career. I don't know if he had that trust
- 10:27Speaker 2: in Parker, but when we talk about the trust he
- 10:29Speaker 2: now has in Josh Cameron, he's so confident in himself,
- 10:32Speaker 2: it's almost like that's creating the trust because he's like, well,
- 10:34Speaker 2: I'm going to put.
- 10:35Speaker 5: It in the right spot.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Yeah, he's at his best.
- 10:38Speaker 6: 22 was his best run before this when he just
- 10:42Speaker 6: trusted Evan Ingram and Christian Kirk and even Zay Jones,
- 10:46Speaker 6: trusted those guys organically. Marvin Jones, same way. You never
- 10:50Speaker 6: got the idea that he was worried about who he
- 10:53Speaker 6: was throwing to. Feels like it's getting to that point,
- 10:55Speaker 6: maybe even beyond right now.
- 10:57Speaker 5: You said it right. He trusts himself.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I mean, the trust that he has right now that
- 11:01Speaker 4: he knows what he's doing and what the game plan
- 11:03Speaker 4: is and trusting the coaching staff to put him in
- 11:06Speaker 4: the right position, it starts with him.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Okay, still stuff to improve upon, so we do want
- 11:11Speaker 2: to touch on this. The pass rush problem. We've talked
- 11:14Speaker 2: about the team looked great against the Browns in Week 1,
- 11:19Speaker 2: weren't able to do much against the Broncos. Maybe better
- 11:22Speaker 2: once you look back at the tape against the Patriots
- 11:24Speaker 2: than you may have thought on first watch, but are
- 11:27Speaker 2: they going to be able to have success against these
- 11:29Speaker 2: better teams if they can't get home and.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Get those sack numbers up?
- 11:32Speaker 4: I don't know if they're going to have success this
- 11:34Speaker 4: week in getting home from the outside.
- 11:36Speaker 5: We're all looking at Josh and Trayvon.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Those are the two big guys that you pay, you
- 11:41Speaker 4: expect to get there. Orlando Brown is 6'8, 350, and
- 11:45Speaker 4: Amarius Mims is the same. And both of them are
- 11:47Speaker 4: playing at a high level and protect that quarterback. I
- 11:51Speaker 4: don't know if you get there this week, but they're
- 11:53Speaker 4: too talented. And at some point, something's going to emerge
- 11:56Speaker 4: in the middle. Something's going to work on a blitz.
- 11:58Speaker 4: They're going to have to take their attention.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Off of both of those. That's really the key, John.
- 12:02Speaker 4: There's so much attention directed towards 41 and 44 that
- 12:06Speaker 4: it's tough for them to get there, especially in a
- 12:07Speaker 4: quick setting where the quarterback's getting rid of it in
- 12:09Speaker 4: three or four steps.
- 12:11Speaker 6: When the game was in doubt the other day, there
- 12:12Speaker 6: were a few plays up front with Trayvon and Josh
- 12:15Speaker 6: where I thought they impacted things. By the second half,
- 12:18Speaker 6: I don't know that game wasn't really close enough to
- 12:24Speaker 6: have big moment pass rushes. So it was okay to
- 12:28Speaker 6: me against Cleveland, not great against Denver. Was Denver the altitude?
- 12:32Speaker 6: All those things. I guess my point is we're still
- 12:34Speaker 6: sort of pushing through and seeing what trends are. I
- 12:38Speaker 6: do know that everybody has to be better than they
- 12:42Speaker 6: were in the second half of the very meaningful football
- 12:45Speaker 6: against Denver where they didn't.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Get a pass rush. Key to it all, better on
- 12:50Speaker 1: the interior. And I agree with Brian.
- 12:52Speaker 6: That's always the hidden thing that nobody ever wants to
- 12:54Speaker 6: talk about with edge rushers.
- 12:56Speaker 1: You must get pressure from inside.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And last week, there were two fumbles by the Bengals
- 13:01Speaker 4: because there was pressure from the Steelers. They didn't get
- 13:05Speaker 4: to him a lot, but they forced him to do
- 13:08Speaker 4: some things that made him uncomfortable. He fumbled it at
- 13:10Speaker 4: the end of the game when they were driving to
- 13:11Speaker 4: try a go-ahead field goal. So just even creating doubt
- 13:15Speaker 4: in the mind of the quarterback about what's coming can help.
- 13:19Speaker 2: We'll see what it looks like this week. We'll dive
- 13:20Speaker 2: more into that matchup on Thursday's show, but stay with
- 13:24Speaker 2: us here on this show. After the break, we'll do
- 13:26Speaker 2: a little around the NFL and see what's going on
- 13:28Speaker 2: around the league. Around the NFL brought to you by
- 13:38Speaker 2: Paramount Plus, the streaming home of your live local NFL
- 13:42Speaker 2: on CBS games.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Welcome back in.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Time to talk a little bit about what's been going
- 13:47Speaker 2: on around the NFL. And we're going to start with
- 13:49Speaker 2: the AFC South because now another team besides the Jaguars
- 13:52Speaker 2: have gotten a win. The Colts played the Texans and
- 13:55Speaker 2: the Colts got their first win of the season. The
- 13:57Speaker 2: Texans 0-3 for the second year in a row.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Remarkable, John.
- 14:01Speaker 4: The Colts had lost nine consecutive games. Dating back to
- 14:04Speaker 4: last season, nothing was working for them. In fact, at
- 14:08Speaker 4: the end of last year, you start losing players like
- 14:10Speaker 4: Daniel Jones.
- 14:11Speaker 5: At the beginning of this season, Alec Pierce.
- 14:13Speaker 4: And yet they found a way against a very talented
- 14:16Speaker 4: defense on a day that their star running back couldn't
- 14:19Speaker 4: find any room. And Jones made enough key throws to
- 14:23Speaker 4: Josh Downs and a few other players to find a
- 14:26Speaker 4: way to get a win.
- 14:27Speaker 6: You never know how seasons are going to play out.
- 14:30Speaker 6: I think the Colts are going to matter in this race.
- 14:34Speaker 6: The Texans historically can overcome slow starts. It's why if
- 14:40Speaker 6: I'm a Jaguars observer, I was just as glad to
- 14:43Speaker 6: see the Colts get that because you sort of know
- 14:47Speaker 6: that out of those two teams, the Texans are the
- 14:50Speaker 6: team that feels like they have a superpower, that if
- 14:54Speaker 6: they get hot and they lean into that and they
- 14:56Speaker 6: get a little more going offensively, you feel like they
- 14:59Speaker 6: could start going.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So you kind of want to get them down.
- 15:03Speaker 6: You feel like I guess based on last year when
- 15:05Speaker 6: they beat the Colts twice, you feel like the Jaguars,
- 15:08Speaker 6: if they have to go take care of things, again,
- 15:10Speaker 6: I think the Colts are dangerous because of Jonathan Taylor
- 15:12Speaker 6: and some factors, but don't you just kind of feel
- 15:15Speaker 6: like you want the Texans pushed back?
- 15:17Speaker 4: The Colts' defense is not that good. They've got a
- 15:21Speaker 4: couple of players who, when they play well, have a
- 15:23Speaker 4: chance to win. But you know you can score against
- 15:26Speaker 4: the Colts.
- 15:27Speaker 5: You don't know if you can score against the Texans.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Right, the Texans on the right day can shut you down.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And we've seen from them last year the reason the
- 15:35Speaker 2: Jaguars run at the back end was because the Texans
- 15:37Speaker 2: were nipping at their heels the whole way as well
- 15:39Speaker 2: if they lost one game.
- 15:40Speaker 6: I think that's the point. Some franchises get down 0-3,
- 15:47Speaker 6: and they don't really know how to react. Not only
- 15:50Speaker 6: last year, there's been multiple seasons. That franchise can come
- 15:54Speaker 6: back from that sort of thing.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So they're still dangerous.
- 15:57Speaker 4: They've done it twice since 2020. They have started 0-3
- 16:01Speaker 4: and gotten it done.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Believing you can do that matters.
- 16:04Speaker 5: That's true. The question is, do they believe in the
- 16:05Speaker 5: quarterback in Houston?
- 16:07Speaker 4: And it doesn't sound like there's a resounding vote of
- 16:09Speaker 4: confidence there. And do they believe in their running game?
- 16:12Speaker 4: And right now, neither are performing at a level that
- 16:14Speaker 4: gives them a lot of confidence. But the defense does.
- 16:16Speaker 5: The defense does.
- 16:17Speaker 2: We're looking at some other future Jaguars opponents. Going to
- 16:20Speaker 2: be taking on the Eagles in London. They were on
- 16:22Speaker 2: Monday Night Football last night. And the Bears were on
- 16:25Speaker 2: third string, I guess you could say. Case Keenum coming
- 16:28Speaker 2: in out of nowhere, getting a win for the Bears
- 16:31Speaker 2: against the Eagles.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Eagles first loss of the season.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Yeah, there felt like a few adjustment games this week,
- 16:36Speaker 6: meaning 2-0 teams that maybe aren't dominant. I'm not saying
- 16:41Speaker 6: the Eagles aren't dominant, but the Seahawks kind of came
- 16:44Speaker 6: back to earth a little bit with a road game
- 16:46Speaker 6: is what I'm getting at. It's so hard to run
- 16:49Speaker 6: off a lot of wins in a row. It's what
- 16:51Speaker 6: made the Jaguars season last year so unusual. I'm not
- 16:55Speaker 6: really worried about the Eagles. It felt like a circumstance-type game,
- 16:59Speaker 6: meaning the Bears sort of rallied around their situation.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Monday night football got up. Eagles had a hard time
- 17:06Speaker 1: coming back.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Regardless of what happened Monday, it's going to be a
- 17:11Speaker 6: tough matchup in London in a few weeks.
- 17:12Speaker 4: You better be able to run the football if you're
- 17:14Speaker 4: going to beat the Eagles. I mean, I watched Jalen
- 17:16Speaker 4: Carter and Jordan Davis last night.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Just fill every gap. There were two guys. It just
- 17:20Speaker 5: seemed like they were everywhere.
- 17:21Speaker 4: So you've got to get your running game tuned up
- 17:23Speaker 4: a little bit more, and it's got to be productive
- 17:25Speaker 4: if you're going to be Philadelphia.
- 17:26Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting matchup. And then just
- 17:29Speaker 2: a sneak peek of what we'll get into more in
- 17:31Speaker 2: tomorrow's show. But the Bengals and Steelers, typical AFC North
- 17:35Speaker 2: clash where the Bengals are riding high 2-0, and they
- 17:38Speaker 2: come in and the Steelers just found a way.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a rivalry game. Again, there's so much about
- 17:45Speaker 6: the early season. you want to jump on trends and
- 17:49Speaker 6: you forget that it's such a week-to-week league.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Bengals were 2-0.
- 17:53Speaker 6: They had also beaten the Texans and the Bucks, who
- 17:56Speaker 6: don't have wins.
- 17:57Speaker 1: The Steelers were struggling, but in this first two or.
- 18:01Speaker 6: Three games, you just don't know what teams are yet. Again,
- 18:06Speaker 6: I kind of feel like the Jaguars should go up
- 18:08Speaker 6: Sunday and win because I feel like they're here and
- 18:12Speaker 6: the Bengals are maybe here right now, and you're supposed
- 18:15Speaker 6: to win those. So, Bengals are dangerous, but Aaron Rodgers
- 18:19Speaker 6: is still the guy.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and they ran for 130, 135 yards, right? I mean,
- 18:24Speaker 4: Jalen Warren went for 117 or 127, and that's what
- 18:29Speaker 4: really got it done is that they found a way
- 18:31Speaker 4: to push them around up front. Kai, a week after
- 18:33Speaker 4: they got pushed around by a very good Patriots.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Front that this team just pushed around.
- 18:38Speaker 4: So you're Your thesis, right, the transitive property of equality?
- 18:41Speaker 4: A plus B equals C, then B plus C equals A.
- 18:45Speaker 4: The Jaguars should be able to translate what they did
- 18:48Speaker 4: against the Patriots to the Bengals this week. The question is,
- 18:51Speaker 4: how will they practice, and then will they actually go
- 18:53Speaker 4: and get it done?
- 18:54Speaker 5: Because those are the two variables.
- 18:55Speaker 6: I think what's really intriguing, as you think about what
- 18:58Speaker 6: we're seeing, this is a time where you work things
- 19:01Speaker 6: out and figure out who's good. I think the Jaguars, look,
- 19:04Speaker 6: I know the Patriots aren't playing great, but they were
- 19:07Speaker 6: in the Super Bowl last year. and they're a proud team,
- 19:11Speaker 6: and you took them apart. The Jaguars have a chance
- 19:14Speaker 6: to show Eagles, Texans, Cincinnati. I think they're one of
- 19:20Speaker 6: the best teams. I think sometimes fans still look at
- 19:24Speaker 6: it as they remember how bad the Jaguars were for
- 19:26Speaker 6: so long and think.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Oh, the Eagles, they can't go beat the Eagles.
- 19:29Speaker 6: They've had a chance to show they belong, and they
- 19:32Speaker 6: sure did it last week. So I think this is
- 19:34Speaker 6: more of an opportunity the next month than it is
- 19:37Speaker 6: a gauntlet.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Jaguars played elite last week. To be an elite team,
- 19:41Speaker 4: you have to do it every week.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Keeping it going.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Continuity.
- 19:46Speaker 5: We love consistency.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Stay with us.
- 19:48Speaker 2: We'll tell you what's coming up the rest of the week.
- 19:50Speaker 3: That's all.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Bengals matchup presented by Bud Light. Bud Light, the official
- 20:06Speaker 2: beer of.
- 20:07Speaker 1: The Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Jags heading out on the road, going to take on
- 20:12Speaker 2: the Bengals this week. And this starts that long stretch away,
- 20:15Speaker 2: so we're not going to be back. We've seen the
- 20:17Speaker 2: constructions already going. As soon as fans walked out on Sunday,
- 20:20Speaker 2: they really got after it. But it's going to look
- 20:22Speaker 2: totally different by the time they're back, I think, 1st
- 20:24Speaker 2: of November.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I think I counted five concrete trucks all in a
- 20:28Speaker 5: line this morning.
- 20:28Speaker 4: They were ready.
- 20:29Speaker 1: They were lined up.
- 20:30Speaker 5: They are not missing the opportunity.
- 20:32Speaker 4: The question is, what will the Jaguars look like when
- 20:34Speaker 4: we get back here in five weeks?
- 20:36Speaker 5: Will they be in.
- 20:37Speaker 4: This position as a team that is a contender, or
- 20:41Speaker 4: will they be still fighting for their reputation and fighting
- 20:43Speaker 4: for where they want to go?
- 20:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they put themselves. It's why getting out of.
- 20:49Speaker 6: That New England-Denver stretch, one and one, was so important.
- 20:53Speaker 6: You're two and one going into this. If you've been
- 20:55Speaker 6: one and two and you drop two of three in
- 20:58Speaker 6: a tough stretch, then you're sort of up against it.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It gives them a little bit of breathing room going
- 21:05Speaker 1: into this in a tough stretch.
- 21:06Speaker 4: If you come home four and two, in particular with
- 21:09Speaker 4: a couple of AFC wins, man, contender is just stamped
- 21:12Speaker 4: right on your forehead.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Just going in the bi-week cruising.
- 21:15Speaker 1: That would be great.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Tomorrow on Jag's Am, we'll get more in-depth into that
- 21:19Speaker 2: matchup with the Bengals, and we'll hear from Coach and
- 21:21Speaker 2: some of the other players as well.
- 21:23Speaker 1: But we'll see you on Thursday morning.
