Latest / Normally / Normally Podcast: Abbey Gate is Finally Mentioned in a Presidential Speech
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, Guy's friends, Normany's countrymen. We are back on Normally,
- 0:08Speaker 1: the show What Normal It Takes for when the news
- 0:10Speaker 1: gets weird. I am Mary Cavinham.
- 0:13Speaker 2: And I'm Carol Markowitz. Hi, Mary Catherine. We are recording
- 0:17Speaker 2: this the day after Trump's addressed to Congress, and I
- 0:21Speaker 2: have to say, the news got weird.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I mean we all expected entertaining, right, Yeah.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah, No, the speech I thought was fantastic. I just
- 0:31Speaker 2: thought the reaction and the response around it was beyond
- 0:38Speaker 2: I really did think it was a new level of insanity.
- 0:41Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yeah? I think I am going to sound like a
- 0:45Speaker 1: concern troll, like I'm telling the left what to do,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and maybe I'm trapping them, But I truly think the
- 0:52Speaker 1: best thing to do would just be to sit very normally,
- 0:56Speaker 1: clap when you like something, ignore it when you don't,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and then leave the chambers. You give him so much
- 1:02Speaker 1: less to work with when you do that. I think
- 1:06Speaker 1: the paddles are so weird that the Democrats have decided
- 1:09Speaker 1: to use and hold up when they're upset, because it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: so mimable. You just erase what's written on them and
- 1:15Speaker 1: you write new things on them. That's right, why why
- 1:18Speaker 1: would you do that?
- 1:19Speaker 2: It made no sense. You know, I get the concern
- 1:22Speaker 2: troll thing, but I have to tell you that alone
- 1:25Speaker 2: in my bedroom with no one around, I am screaming
- 1:28Speaker 2: at the screen. Just be normal, like it's not you know.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I wasn't trying to trick them into anything. You're just like,
- 1:35Speaker 2: can you just be quiet? Can you not shake a
- 1:38Speaker 2: cane at the president? What are you doing?
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's mildly concerned. At the beginning, they weren't going to
- 1:42Speaker 1: let him speak at all like that, there was going
- 1:44Speaker 1: to need to be a mass escorting out of much
- 1:49Speaker 1: of the Democratic caucus, which would have been bad. So
- 1:50Speaker 1: they chilled out after al Green, who was the cane shaker,
- 1:55Speaker 1: was escorted out of the room. But I think they're
- 1:59Speaker 1: in a true position because they do need to be
- 2:02Speaker 1: more normal. And one of the things I tell our
- 2:05Speaker 1: friends on the left is, you're so weird that people
- 2:10Speaker 1: turned to Donald Trump as the more normal option. Now,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Donald Trump is many things, many good things, many bad things,
- 2:17Speaker 1: entertaining all these not normal, right, He's like, he's definitely
- 2:21Speaker 1: an oddball, but he's normaler than y'all.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Way more way more normal.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't think it was effective, but their
- 2:33Speaker 1: base requires that they do things that are theatric and
- 2:38Speaker 1: big to stop this allegedly not normal duly elected president.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But I have to imagine that their base can't possibly
- 2:46Speaker 2: like them not applauding a thirteen year old cancer survivor.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I just again, I look at it from the right.
- 2:54Speaker 2: If it was Republicans not applauding a thirteen year old
- 2:57Speaker 2: cancer I would not like that and so and while
- 3:02Speaker 2: I would want the Republicans to stand up to say
- 3:05Speaker 2: Joe Biden or whoever the president is, I still would
- 3:10Speaker 2: not appreciate that kind of behavior. And I think it
- 3:12Speaker 2: would have been better if they hadn't shown up, and
- 3:15Speaker 2: that would have been more understandable to me than what
- 3:18Speaker 2: they ended up doing. And of course some of them
- 3:21Speaker 2: did walk out. I know that Congressman Frost from Florida,
- 3:26Speaker 2: one of the very very few Democrats we have here,
- 3:29Speaker 2: walked out and then took a selfie with a bunch
- 3:32Speaker 2: of other congress people that walked out, and his shirt
- 3:35Speaker 2: showed Trump an important message, no kings live here.
- 3:39Speaker 1: He said, what what well? And when your behavior is
- 3:44Speaker 1: that it gives him an opposition that is once again
- 3:49Speaker 1: dumber than any thing he could have ever hoped for
- 3:54Speaker 1: and unpopular. Right when you sit in that chamber, Look,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think we have passed the point of sort of
- 4:00Speaker 1: like pure motives, and things have gotten more circusy over
- 4:06Speaker 1: the years for these states of the Unions. However, when
- 4:08Speaker 1: people bring guests, the guests are real Americans who are
- 4:13Speaker 1: getting a chance to be in that chamber to do
- 4:16Speaker 1: something big. They're being honored for something real. There's a
- 4:20Speaker 1: veteran steel worker who has fostered forty children, I mean,
- 4:24Speaker 1: a saint walking the earth. And look when I was
- 4:28Speaker 1: watching Obama's and when Republicans were there for Obama's speeches. Yes,
- 4:32Speaker 1: sometimes these people are used to push certain policies that
- 4:36Speaker 1: you may not agree with.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Course, Yeah, but the person themselves, in their personal story,
- 4:41Speaker 3: you just got to suck it up and be like, yes,
- 4:43Speaker 3: because I'm there for that part, right, and we'll disagree
- 4:47Speaker 3: about the Medicaid whatever later, you know.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but they can't do that.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it should be our moment of unity, and it's
- 4:54Speaker 2: just such an easy one for them to accomplish, and
- 4:57Speaker 2: yet they still can't. Mike Solana on X tweeted in
- 5:01Speaker 2: two thousand and nine, Joe Wilson shouted you lie in
- 5:04Speaker 2: the middle of Obama's speech, and it was a major
- 5:07Speaker 2: national scandal. Both parties condemned the outburst, and Wilson formally
- 5:11Speaker 2: publicly apologized very different times. Now none of these regular apologizing.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And of course their argument is, well, look at Trump,
- 5:21Speaker 2: look at what Trump does. And again, like you said,
- 5:24Speaker 2: Trump comes off far more normal than they do. I think,
- 5:28Speaker 2: like the most abnormal part about Trump last night was
- 5:33Speaker 2: him referring to Pocahontas Elizabeth Warren from the stage, a
- 5:38Speaker 2: living that clearly I don't know compared to their behavior,
- 5:43Speaker 2: it sort of seems small potatoes.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And to illustrate how little they're able to embrace
- 5:50Speaker 1: a thirteen year old kid who's struggling with brain cancer
- 5:55Speaker 1: who wants to be a police officer when he grows up,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and then his deputye by the head of the United
- 6:01Speaker 1: States Secret Service as a Secret Service agent. It was
- 6:04Speaker 1: such a beautiful moment. Just it was the first one
- 6:06Speaker 1: that Chad that made me cry a little bit when
- 6:09Speaker 1: his face lit up because he clearly was surprised by this.
- 6:13Speaker 1: This is how we'll do two of them. This is
- 6:16Speaker 1: how Nicole Wallace responded to this.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Moment, and I think this was a lesson in finding
- 6:22Speaker 4: one thing that you let yourself feel, and I let
- 6:26Speaker 4: myself feel joy about DJ And I hope he's alive
- 6:31Speaker 4: for another you know, ninety five years, right, And I
- 6:35Speaker 4: hope he lives and the life he wants to live.
- 6:38Speaker 4: He wants to be a cop. He knows what he
- 6:39Speaker 4: wants to do, and maybe when you have childhood cancer
- 6:42Speaker 4: that crystallizes for you. And I hope he has a
- 6:45Speaker 4: long life as a law enforcement officer. But I hope
- 6:48Speaker 4: he never has to defend the United States capital against
- 6:51Speaker 4: Donald Trump supporters. And if he does, I hope he
- 6:54Speaker 4: isn't one of the six who loses his life to suicide.
- 6:57Speaker 4: And I hope he isn't one who has to testify
- 6:59Speaker 4: against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy
- 7:02Speaker 4: and then lived to see Donald Trump.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Pardon those people. Girl, am woman, get it together.
- 7:12Speaker 2: What are you doing, lady?
- 7:13Speaker 1: What was There's got to be a break in your
- 7:15Speaker 1: brain that says, Okay, look, I know I'm still I'm
- 7:18Speaker 1: mad about January sixth, Yeah, but it should not be
- 7:21Speaker 1: applied to the story of the thirteen year old cancer
- 7:25Speaker 1: brain cancer sufferer, like that's.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Just who's getting like a secret service appointment.
- 7:31Speaker 1: He gives the service director a hug.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, these are just it's beyond And again, I think
- 7:39Speaker 2: about what I would think if it was happening on
- 7:41Speaker 2: my side, and I would not appreciate.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It, right, I would want you to just do the thing, Yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 1: like clap for the kid. I saw a funny Twitter
- 7:50Speaker 1: back and forth between Tom Nichols of the Atlantic and
- 7:54Speaker 1: Kathy Young. I believe, oh my god, I'm discussing what
- 7:57Speaker 1: was the proper way to do that, and Kathy was arguing, like,
- 8:02Speaker 1: maybe maybe you could clap for him, and He's like, no, not,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you can't clap because you're just giving into the manipulation.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I hope those two get to the bottom of it.
- 8:15Speaker 1: You've lost the plot, my friends, you really have. I
- 8:19Speaker 1: believe you have another clip of.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yes, one more clip, let's do.
- 8:23Speaker 1: It for the record. And this is disgusting.
- 8:27Speaker 5: The President made a spectacle out of praising a young
- 8:33Speaker 5: man who serves thus much survived pediatric cancer, as if
- 8:37Speaker 5: the President had.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Something to do with that. This was in the.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Midst of him praising dog Doge. Cuts, among other things,
- 8:44Speaker 5: have cut off funding for ongoing research into pediatrics it's disgusting.
- 8:50Speaker 1: That was Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I don't feel like he claimed any credits any you know,
- 9:01Speaker 2: by this kid with cancer. I think that kid is
- 9:03Speaker 2: doing the surviving all on his own, with the help
- 9:06Speaker 2: of his family and his doctors. I do not believe
- 9:09Speaker 2: Donald Trump said that he was responsible for the life
- 9:13Speaker 2: this kid living.
- 9:14Speaker 1: He didn't just didn't really, He didn't even really do policy.
- 9:18Speaker 1: He segued slightly into sort of health policy and HHS,
- 9:22Speaker 1: but like not enough that it should keep you from
- 9:25Speaker 1: cheering for the kid with cancer.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a step too far.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Now. A lot of the guests were so lovely last night.
- 9:33Speaker 1: The widow of a slain officer, Stephanie Diller, was there.
- 9:37Speaker 1: She has one one child, one young child who she's
- 9:40Speaker 1: raising on her own. Now. Uh, there was Corey Confortoire's
- 9:43Speaker 1: family was there, A kid whose dream was to get
- 9:46Speaker 1: into the United States Military Academy, who was accepted on
- 9:51Speaker 1: the spot by the President of the United States, which
- 9:53Speaker 1: is not that nice, at which point he high fives
- 9:57Speaker 1: DJ was so good.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So a lot of really good moments. I want to
- 10:04Speaker 1: draw attention to one policy moment that I think should
- 10:07Speaker 1: be a bigger deal than it is. This is Trump
- 10:10Speaker 1: announcing something we did not know before the State of
- 10:13Speaker 1: the Union.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Here's ago ISIS terrorists killed thirteen American service members and
- 10:18Speaker 6: countless others in the Abbygate bombing during the disastrous and
- 10:23Speaker 6: incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan. Not that they were withdrawing, it
- 10:28Speaker 6: was the way they withdrew perhaps the most embarrassing moment
- 10:32Speaker 6: in the history of our country. Tonight, please to announce
- 10:36Speaker 6: that we have just apprehended the top terrorists responsible for
- 10:41Speaker 6: that atrocity, and he is right now on his way
- 10:44Speaker 6: here to face the swift sword of American justice.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I wanted to let the applause go on for a
- 10:59Speaker 1: bit because you'll see that even for catching a terrorist
- 11:03Speaker 1: of isis K who killed thirteen Americans and one hundred
- 11:07Speaker 1: and seventy Afghanistan citizens, the Democrats are in their seats.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And there was a close up shot too of several
- 11:15Speaker 1: just like scrolling on their phones while this was happening,
- 11:18Speaker 1: In classic Donald Trump's style, ash Pttel was out at Dulles.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think as the speech was happening, receiving this transfer
- 11:26Speaker 1: of custody of this ISIS kid terrorist. And I just
- 11:30Speaker 1: want to note for everyone, because you might not know,
- 11:33Speaker 1: that is the first time that the Abbygate thirteen service
- 11:36Speaker 1: members have ever been mentioned in a major presidential address.
- 11:40Speaker 2: That is so wild to me.
- 11:43Speaker 1: How is that possible? Biden had three State of the
- 11:46Speaker 1: Union addresses after their deaths to mention them. He never did.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Their families were not invited as guests to recognize them.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They famously behind the scenes tried to get phone calls
- 11:57Speaker 1: with him, tried to get face to face face meetings
- 12:00Speaker 1: with him. You'll remember when he did the dignified transfer
- 12:04Speaker 1: it dover that he was accused of catching his watch,
- 12:08Speaker 1: checking his watch, and was indeed caught on camera doing that.
- 12:12Speaker 1: There have been all sorts of issues with that administration
- 12:16Speaker 1: wanting to forget that this happened. And many presidents have
- 12:20Speaker 1: to deal with the fact that calls they make end
- 12:24Speaker 1: up causing the deaths or contributing to the deaths of
- 12:28Speaker 1: American service members. And you know what you do, You
- 12:31Speaker 1: do the hard thing, and you give those families recognition,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and you make sure you put them in the speech.
- 12:38Speaker 1: In twenty twenty four, his last chance to mention them,
- 12:41Speaker 1: he did not, although he mentioned Afghanistan in general, at
- 12:46Speaker 1: least once touting something else he was doing. There were
- 12:49Speaker 1: also five other service members who had lost their lives
- 12:51Speaker 1: in the two months before the State of the Union.
- 12:53Speaker 1: They were unmentioned as well, So the empathizer in chief
- 12:58Speaker 1: was not that for these families. And those families went
- 13:01Speaker 1: to Donald Trump, who Donald Trump notes, he knows well,
- 13:05Speaker 1: he's not faking that, right. They went to him, they
- 13:08Speaker 1: got the recognition. They brought him to Arlington. You'll remember
- 13:11Speaker 1: during at the anniversary last year, at which point the
- 13:15Speaker 1: press decided it was bad for Trump to to Arlington
- 13:20Speaker 1: after being invited by these families.
- 13:23Speaker 2: That's right.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It's so disgraceful, Carol. I'm writing about it for OutKick,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but it's so disgraceful that I forget how disgraceful it is.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And I just want to add one more data point.
- 13:34Speaker 1: One of the fathers, Steve Nacooey, of one of the
- 13:37Speaker 1: Marines who died at Abby Gate, was a guest of
- 13:40Speaker 1: representative masted at the twenty twenty four last year's State
- 13:44Speaker 1: of the Union and he interrupted to yell Abby Gate
- 13:49Speaker 1: and United States Marines. He was arrested and charged with
- 13:53Speaker 1: a crime, Carol, because they the charges. Yeah, thanks, guys.
- 13:58Speaker 1: But that's the difference in how these things are treated
- 14:03Speaker 1: and the credit that Biden got for being like Bo's
- 14:06Speaker 1: father and just like mister empathizer. Well, Donald Trump gets
- 14:11Speaker 1: no credit while he's actually doing the thing.
- 14:13Speaker 2: That's right. Ugh, yeah, this is I love that you
- 14:18Speaker 2: are writing about this. I love that you mentioned this.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I had not realized that abvigate was never mentioned in
- 14:23Speaker 2: an official address. That is mind boggling to me. It's,
- 14:26Speaker 2: you know, what the thing is. It's obviously a difficult
- 14:29Speaker 2: thing to take responsibility, yes, but it's also part of
- 14:33Speaker 2: the job, and it's not that difficult to suck it
- 14:37Speaker 2: up for a short period of time, say their names,
- 14:41Speaker 2: talk about what happened, say that we're going to find
- 14:44Speaker 2: the people that did this.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Another thing, well, that's the other thing. When they when
- 14:48Speaker 1: they retaliated for this, they retaliated against a family. Oops,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and got that wrong. So I hope we are now
- 14:54Speaker 1: getting it right. And you know, Biden, I think mentioned
- 14:57Speaker 1: it in releases. He may have mentioned it in passing
- 15:00Speaker 1: when he had chances to lift these families up, when
- 15:03Speaker 1: he had chances to meet with them every time they
- 15:06Speaker 1: took a pass. And it's it's been appalling to me
- 15:10Speaker 1: the whole time, and I think the arrest of the
- 15:12Speaker 1: gold Star Father really put the icing on the cake.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Absolutely unacceptable, amazing stuff. So I'm well, thank you Trump
- 15:21Speaker 1: for mentioning them.
- 15:22Speaker 2: We'll be right back on normally, switching gears a little
- 15:29Speaker 2: bit to what's happening at the Supreme Court. There was
- 15:33Speaker 2: a decision this morning that ruled that USAID must pay
- 15:39Speaker 2: out its foreign aid contracts and lifted the freeze that
- 15:43Speaker 2: the Trump administration had put on those contracts. Justice Alito
- 15:48Speaker 2: had a scathing opinion that included the words I am stunned,
- 15:53Speaker 2: because I think a lot of people are stunned. And
- 15:56Speaker 2: he also noted in his dissent today the Court make
- 16:00Speaker 2: a most unfortunate misstep that rewards an act of judicial
- 16:03Speaker 2: hubris and imposes a two billion dollar penalty on American taxpayers.
- 16:09Speaker 2: This is so bizarre to me. How can it not
- 16:11Speaker 2: be the president's I don't want to say roll, but
- 16:15Speaker 2: certainly is prerogative to fund whatever projects the country wants
- 16:20Speaker 2: to fund.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I don't get it. So this what Alito wanted, and
- 16:26Speaker 1: what would have been eminently possible, is for this to
- 16:29Speaker 1: continue going through a discussion of the merits at the
- 16:33Speaker 1: appropriate channels instead of doing this argument about a temporary
- 16:36Speaker 1: restraining order, because his argument is it's not a temporary
- 16:39Speaker 1: restraining order because once this money's gone, you ain't seeing
- 16:43Speaker 1: it ever again, right right. Yeah, So if your temporary
- 16:46Speaker 1: restraining order requires someone to throw two billion dollars out
- 16:51Speaker 1: the window, then that's a problem. Now, the folks who
- 16:55Speaker 1: were going to get paid by this two billion dollars,
- 16:57Speaker 1: some of the parties that sued, they say, well, this
- 16:59Speaker 1: is for work already done. I'm willing to listen to
- 17:02Speaker 1: that argument, but it should go through the proper steps. Now,
- 17:06Speaker 1: what the Supreme Court did is they send it back
- 17:08Speaker 1: to this district court, which Alito I think rightly is saying,
- 17:11Speaker 1: how can they be the final arbiter on this makes
- 17:15Speaker 1: no sense?
- 17:15Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:16Speaker 1: They send it back to the district court and said, like,
- 17:18Speaker 1: you need to clarify this. Do I think that that
- 17:21Speaker 1: district court is going to act in good faith to
- 17:23Speaker 1: clarify this within the limits of its powers. I am
- 17:28Speaker 1: not sure about that, and Alito was not either.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's confusing, you know. I spoke to my friend
- 17:35Speaker 2: Josh Hammer, who I considered one of the top conservative
- 17:38Speaker 2: legal minds he made the point that it sounds like
- 17:42Speaker 2: what the Supreme Court is saying is that Trump Doge
- 17:45Speaker 2: are a circumvention of Congress and that the president's job
- 17:48Speaker 2: is just to hit send on funds Congress appropriated, which
- 17:52Speaker 2: again makes not that much sense to me. I get
- 17:56Speaker 2: that he's not involved in what funds go where specifically,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but it's certainly I think, in his purview to say
- 18:04Speaker 2: this is money being wasted. I don't see how.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It's not well. And Alito makes the point that a
- 18:12Speaker 1: pause to go through the courts to figure out who
- 18:16Speaker 1: has power on the merits of these arguments would not
- 18:20Speaker 1: irreparably harm people, although it would be a hardship on
- 18:23Speaker 1: some of them. However, sending the money without having a
- 18:27Speaker 1: process for checking and seeing whose power it is does
- 18:30Speaker 1: potentially irreparably harm taxpayers. Who's two billion dollars it is.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really disappointing to see Amy Coni Barrett on
- 18:40Speaker 2: the wrong side of this. I think that people are
- 18:43Speaker 2: starting to get nervous that she may not have been
- 18:47Speaker 2: the great conservative hope that people had imagined she was.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I try not to get too nervous too fast, but
- 18:55Speaker 1: I got to say that ever since the Roberts Obamacare decision. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm sensitive. I'm sensitive. Yeah, I'm also open
- 19:04Speaker 1: to the idea that these guys can disagree in good
- 19:06Speaker 1: faith and that I don't actually understand all of this.
- 19:11Speaker 1: But this one does feel like maybe we should have
- 19:14Speaker 1: just gone through the appeals court and she chatted about
- 19:17Speaker 1: this some more.
- 19:18Speaker 2: We're going to take a short break and come right
- 19:20Speaker 2: back with Normally, all the Democrats voted against the Protection
- 19:28Speaker 2: of Women and Girls in Sports Act of twenty twenty five,
- 19:32Speaker 2: which is just insane to me. They needed sixty votes
- 19:37Speaker 2: to clear the Senate's legislative bilibuster. They only managed fifty one,
- 19:42Speaker 2: all from Republicans Senator Warren you know Pocahuntas for people
- 19:46Speaker 2: who remember held her thumb down as she voted because
- 19:52Speaker 2: she really wanted people to know if she opposes female athletes.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Yeah, again, this isn't eighty twenty issue. And I myself
- 20:03Speaker 7: as an ideologue and sometimes on the twenty percent shide
- 20:06Speaker 7: of issues.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And so I'm gonna I'm not gonna hate on you
- 20:10Speaker 1: if you need to stand up on principle. Occasionally, this
- 20:13Speaker 1: one just seems like a real easy win, Like eighty
- 20:17Speaker 1: percent of American people are like, yeah, we should just
- 20:20Speaker 1: have the women's sports and not the men potentially beating
- 20:25Speaker 1: them and hurting them in those sports. By the way,
- 20:28Speaker 1: one of the guests at the joint session was a
- 20:32Speaker 1: young woman I believe her name is Peyton McNabb, who
- 20:36Speaker 1: got a traumatic brain injury from having been injured by
- 20:40Speaker 1: a transathlete boy athlete under these rules. And again it's
- 20:46Speaker 1: another situation where Democrats can't bring themselves to acknowledge this
- 20:51Speaker 1: very simple and popular thing, right because it's a Trump thing.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And I saw some people there was some back and
- 20:59Speaker 1: forth on Twitter last night saying, well, he doesn't really
- 21:03Speaker 1: care about women's athletes.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I mean he's shown kind of that he does.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Actually, this is the thing, that's what they say that
- 21:10Speaker 1: about veterans too. He doesn't care about veterans, right, But
- 21:13Speaker 1: he's the one meeting with the families. But he's the
- 21:16Speaker 1: one pushing the executive order, right, so generally.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Action and not the emoting personally.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Like to me, it's unimportant whether he actually watches women's volleyball, right,
- 21:28Speaker 1: they probably like it. But if he does or not,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I don't care. But if he's clearing the way for
- 21:35Speaker 1: my daughters in the future to play safely.
- 21:38Speaker 2: That's a win for me exactly. And he has granddaughters
- 21:41Speaker 2: he certainly may care about this. There was an exchange
- 21:45Speaker 2: on x that I found very illuminating Brad Piquette, who
- 21:50Speaker 2: is a state rep for the thirty seventh district in Michigan.
- 21:53Speaker 2: He said, he posted, I don't know to call it anymore.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He tweeted both of my US Senators, Gary Peters and
- 21:59Speaker 2: Eli Slotkinner opposed to my daughter playing sports against other
- 22:02Speaker 2: girls only? What a sort to fall on with only
- 22:06Speaker 2: one of you at the end of your political career.
- 22:09Speaker 2: A response he got from Julie Brisey, who is another
- 22:12Speaker 2: Michigan representative in House District seventy three, said, but what
- 22:17Speaker 2: are you doing to stop tariffs so Michigan cars don't
- 22:19Speaker 2: get eight thousand dollars more expensive while tayotas don't. And
- 22:23Speaker 2: what about the price of eggs? Who cares about who
- 22:25Speaker 2: your kid plays in sports? What are you doing to
- 22:28Speaker 2: help hard working Michigan factory workers and farmers survive? Who
- 22:32Speaker 2: cares about your kid? He cares, he cares about his kid.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I think that's really what they don't understand is that
- 22:38Speaker 2: American parents care about their children. I know, it's surprising
- 22:42Speaker 2: and chanting and really not how Julie Bricksy thinks it
- 22:46Speaker 2: should work. We should care about Michigan factory workers more,
- 22:50Speaker 2: but no, we care about our kids, and so that
- 22:52Speaker 2: would be priority one, and Michigan factory workers are certainly
- 22:56Speaker 2: on the list as well. But the first priority is
- 22:59Speaker 2: our children and keeping them safe and out of harm's way.
- 23:04Speaker 2: And what's particularly interesting about this issue is that the
- 23:07Speaker 2: trans issue is touchy in some places and some some
- 23:13Speaker 2: you know, there are some definitely fifty to fifty issues
- 23:16Speaker 2: around trans questions, but sports, biological boys playing in girls
- 23:22Speaker 2: sports is simply just not one of them. And everybody
- 23:25Speaker 2: with eyes understands why biological boys can't play in girls
- 23:29Speaker 2: sports and this whole who cares about your kid? I mean,
- 23:33Speaker 2: continue to run on that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I saw in exchange that I thought was illustrative as well,
- 23:40Speaker 1: which is Megan McCain brought up Peyton McNabb and said,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you know, it's important to protect people like her. I'm
- 23:47Speaker 1: glad that the President is doing this. I'm worried for
- 23:49Speaker 1: my daughters and Andy Cohen, they're like buzz, yeah, says
- 23:55Speaker 1: surprised you're buying into the vilification of the trans community,
- 23:58Speaker 1: given the real problems happening in this country, your previous
- 24:01Speaker 1: allyship of the LGBTQ community, and the fact that this
- 24:05Speaker 1: non issue affects about four people in this country. He's
- 24:09Speaker 1: wrong on the facts. It's hundreds and hundreds and hundreds
- 24:12Speaker 1: of competitors who have taken podium slots and scholarships and
- 24:16Speaker 1: all sorts of things from women, But he's totally wrong
- 24:21Speaker 1: on the politics. And he decided to dig in on
- 24:25Speaker 1: the issue of a woman who got a traumatic brain
- 24:28Speaker 1: injury from this kind of danger. It tright to me
- 24:32Speaker 1: shows how committed they are to this losing issue.
- 24:36Speaker 2: They really are.
- 24:37Speaker 1: By the way, when they say like this isn't a
- 24:39Speaker 1: big deal, there's only a few of them who made
- 24:41Speaker 1: it a big deal. Who required that women athletes not
- 24:47Speaker 1: only lose to boys, but stand on the podium and
- 24:50Speaker 1: cheer and say how amazing it was to feel so
- 24:53Speaker 1: inclusive and lose, Like who was it that made this
- 24:56Speaker 1: a national store?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Wasn't us? And also talking about you know, first of
- 24:59Speaker 2: allmocrats always say that they're there to represent these tiny minorities,
- 25:03Speaker 2: and that's the whole thing. They are changing our language,
- 25:06Speaker 2: getting rid of terms like mother and using inseminated person.
- 25:10Speaker 2: How many people in the whole country are pregnant and
- 25:13Speaker 2: don't feel comfortable with the word mother, and I would
- 25:16Speaker 2: prefer inseminated person, Like I don't even believe there are four.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I would be surprised to find four people.
- 25:22Speaker 1: We can't find them.
- 25:23Speaker 2: No, they don't exist. I think that if you are
- 25:26Speaker 2: a biological woman, even if you have transitioned and you
- 25:30Speaker 2: are pregnant with a baby, you still want to be
- 25:33Speaker 2: a mother and not an inseminated person.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So yeah, and one last point on this, which is
- 25:37Speaker 1: that Alyssa Slutkin of Michigan was the responder what do
- 25:42Speaker 1: they call it, the rebuttal to this speech. It's a
- 25:47Speaker 1: very unenviable position. You have to give a speech to
- 25:50Speaker 1: a dark closet with no one after the president has
- 25:54Speaker 1: spoken to a joint session. So even if it's Biden,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you're having a tough time following. She did a good
- 26:00Speaker 1: job of seeming medium normally. Yeah, but this is the problem.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Look at the voting record from just this week, and
- 26:08Speaker 1: it turns out she's not in line with seventy nine
- 26:11Speaker 1: percent of Americans who believe this thing.
- 26:14Speaker 2: That's right, This very sane, normal, obvious thing that Democrats
- 26:20Speaker 2: have decided to fight to the death, and so okay,
- 26:23Speaker 2: let's do it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Let's fight to the dos.
