- 0:09Wow, today is the the 7th, the 7th of January 2025 and already
- 0:162025 is off to a just a rock and start.
- 0:20There's been so much turmoil I think in the world.
- 0:24I haven't even gone over all the things that have happened just
- 0:26in the States so far, but probably this story here, one of
- 0:30the biggest. Well, it's going to be one of
- 0:33the biggest stories for at least a week.
- 0:35OK, You can never tell what's going to be the biggest story
- 0:38for the whole year because it just seems like one, one minute,
- 0:42something massive happens. It only takes a couple of days
- 0:45and it's something else even bigger happens.
- 0:47And you certainly go, wow, this, this is a massive story.
- 0:50But surely this will be a big, big story for for a few days at
- 0:54least. Justin, Justin Trudeau, he's
- 0:57out. Looks like he's he's gone from
- 1:00being the Canadian Prime Minister.
- 1:02This fellow always reminded me of the premier that we had here
- 1:05in Australia, Dan Andrews. They both took to being, you
- 1:10know, want to be despots, dictators very easily, like a
- 1:15doctor, like a doctor water. I'm going to read to you what
- 1:20Alex Berenson has said about Justin Trudeau.
- 1:22I think he he's opinion piece is very succinct at times.
- 1:27He says Justin Trudeau, Dustin cannot talk, Justin Trudeau is
- 1:33out. Even Canada has had enough.
- 1:35That's true way. It seemed like Canadians could
- 1:38just put up with so much anyway. So Trudeau, the Canadian Prime
- 1:44Minister, pays the price as the pendulum swings against COVID
- 1:49authoritarians globally. That's what he says at the
- 1:52moment. But you know, as I said the
- 1:54other day, there's a new, there's a new one coming.
- 1:56So we'll see how it goes. The Wicked Witch of the North
- 2:00has melted away. Everyone who hated COVID
- 2:04vaccines and lockdown mandates should cheer.
- 2:08Justin Trudeau, who imposed strict rules in Canada, then
- 2:13declared a national emergency when citizens protested, is
- 2:17losing his job as Prime Minister.
- 2:19Trudeau said Monday he will step down as soon as his Liberal
- 2:23Party names a replacement. Perhaps the biggest surprise is
- 2:27that Trudeau lasted so long. His approval ratings are now
- 2:32even worse than Smokey Joe Biden's. 74% of Canadians say
- 2:38they dislike him. Wow.
- 2:41Canadian politics are generally centrist, in keeping with the
- 2:46country's tendency towards what Canadians call civility, and
- 2:51sceptics view more as a passive aggressive enforced conformity
- 2:55that puts Japan's to shame. Either way, Trudeau's initial
- 3:00COVID lockdowns reflected his country's mood.
- 3:03His approval rating actually rose in spring of 2020.
- 3:08Like Australia especially. Especially like Victoria, but
- 3:13the whole Australia really. So like Australia, Ireland and
- 3:16New Zealand. Canada embraced restrictive
- 3:19COVID lockdowns and mandates at first.
- 3:23The country effectively closed its borders, except it's
- 3:27essential trade. In 2020.
- 3:29It's biggest province, Ontario, imposed strict lockdowns that
- 3:34closed most stores and limited non essential gatherings.
- 3:38Even in 2021, the country ordered more than ten shots for
- 3:44each person, over 400 million jabs in all, more per person
- 3:50than any other country. And Canadians largely followed
- 3:54orders and rolled up their sleeves.
- 3:56A July 2021 survey showed that 66% of Canadians believe
- 4:01vaccinated people should have greater freedoms than the
- 4:06unjabbed, compared to 41% of Americans.
- 4:10In August of 2021, Trudeau said anyone flying commercially would
- 4:14need a a vaccine passport, effectively denying unvaccinated
- 4:19people any realistic way to travel around Canada, which
- 4:24stretches over 3000 miles from Britain, British Columbia to
- 4:29Newfoundland. But by winter 2022, even many
- 4:34Canadians had lost patience with lockdowns and vaccines.
- 4:38With discontent rising, Trudeau showed the his true
- 4:42authoritarian streak. After thousands of truck drivers
- 4:47and other protesters peacefully occupied the Canadian capital of
- 4:51Ottawa, Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, a law that had
- 4:55never been used before being used, and gave him extraordinary
- 5:00powers on February 14, 2022 to dismantle the protests.
- 5:05Right wing groups from the United States were funding the
- 5:08protests, which were thus a threat to Canada's security.
- 5:12That's what they said. Canadian authorities then
- 5:15blocked funding and seized bank accounts associated with the
- 5:20protests and cleared out the encampments.
- 5:23It's pretty scary when governments start seizing bank
- 5:26accounts, isn't it? So months later, CBC News
- 5:29reported that the Canadian government had known even before
- 5:34it invoked the Emergencies Act, that it's rationale was
- 5:38nonsense. And in January 2024, Canadian
- 5:42court ruled the government should never have invoked the
- 5:46ACT. Trudeau said he never had any
- 5:51regrets. No regrets, he said.
- 5:54Trudeau defended his vax mandates, the Emergency act
- 5:58decisions in the interview. In an interview and in a with
- 6:04with CB CS radios the House, Trudeau spoke about tough and
- 6:09divisive choices. Trudeau's approval rating, which
- 6:14lurked around 40% for most of 2022, sank further since as
- 6:18media driven COVID panic proceeded and anger at the
- 6:21rampage over civil liberties grew.
- 6:24Now Trudeau has joined Jacinda Arden of New Zealand and of
- 6:30course our own Joseph Robinette Biden junior on a long list of
- 6:35tin pot COVID dictators who have faced their own reckonings.
- 6:41And it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.
- 6:44Goodbye Justin. Listen, I agree 100% it couldn't
- 6:48have happened to a nicer bunch. It's just a shame that it took
- 6:52the Canadian people so long to wake up to themselves or maybe
- 6:57just be able to force him out. But you know, I still don't
- 7:02understand how Victorians kept kept voting for Dan Andrews.
- 7:07It's like that. You could see playing as day
- 7:09from up here in Queensland that he was bad for the state and yet
- 7:13they voted him in again. And now they're reaping the
- 7:17they're reaping what they've shown where their state is just
- 7:20phenomenal debt. It's just going to drag the
- 7:24whole state down. But, you know, we choose we we
- 7:30get what we deserve sometimes. Anyway, let me know what you
- 7:35think. I think this is good.
- 7:36I think it's good for the world. It's definitely good for Canada.
- 7:40But it's going to be interesting to see what happens if this new
- 7:44virus scare from coming from China again starts to ramp up
- 7:50without what who the World Health Organisation spoke about
- 7:54the other day with trying to, you know, trying to ramp up
- 7:57vaccine and medical and medicine for this new for this new
- 8:04illness, for this new virus. And they want to clamp down on
- 8:09on anyone who's speaking out against it or they say they want
- 8:12to clamp down on misinformation. So let's see how it goes for
- 8:16this year. But it's definitely at the
- 8:17moment, it's good news to see Trudeau unceremoniously booted
- 8:23from from power in Canada. But I'm pretty sure the World
- 8:28Economic Foreign Forum will have someone else lined up ready to
- 8:32go. That's just my opinion.
- 8:34I'm Jay Fallon, thanks for listening to The Slippery Slope.
- 8:38Please like and share when you get a chance.
- 8:41They just feel.
