- 0:00Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:01Speaker 2: Still gots.
- 0:01Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:02Speaker 3: I got to be honest with you, Bruce, there's a
- 0:03Speaker 3: good chance I'd be high anyway.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:05Speaker 2: And I'm wondering how the football weekend was. Were you
- 0:07Speaker 2: able to watch it? Wow, what happened? Oh, I'm tired
- 0:12Speaker 2: of him. I'm serious. How about that?
- 0:14Speaker 4: In company. We are mother shuckers, baby.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:17Speaker 5: Bruce, does Faison Brandon's name sound like it's on backwards?
- 0:20Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 0:21Speaker 5: It's time to get your.
- 0:23Speaker 5: It's time to get your financials. To get the all boat.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You got nothing right there. This is not going well.
- 0:31Speaker 2: This is Stugatz and Company. Stu, back to you. Taylor,
- 0:36Speaker 2: put it on the poll, please. At Stugatz 790 on X.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Holy shit. The Sixers are good.
- 0:45Speaker 5: I don't understand this narrative coming out of that game.
- 0:48Speaker 5: It makes me question if you watch the Knicks-Sixers game
- 0:52Speaker 5: because that game was so ugly. Both teams shot the
- 0:55Speaker 5: ball so poorly. The 76ers defense got enough stops late.
- 0:59Speaker 5: So if you want to give the 76ers credit for anything,
- 1:02Speaker 5: it's their defensive effort.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:04Speaker 5: It was game one for a team throwing a lot
- 1:06Speaker 5: of moving parts together and one that still has to
- 1:08Speaker 5: build chemistry. But I don't understand the narrative today that
- 1:11Speaker 5: all of a sudden this Sixers team is now the
- 1:14Speaker 5: team to beat in the Eastern conference.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I'm just saying if they were playing that well together
- 1:18Speaker 3: in game one, imagine what that's going to look like,
- 1:20Speaker 3: like game 82 and LeBron's their fourth best player.
- 1:24Speaker 5: But Mikey, tell me if you agree with this point,
- 1:26Speaker 5: if there's one game, you absolutely don't want to play Philadelphia.
- 1:30Speaker 5: It's game one of the regular season where LeBron James,
- 1:33Speaker 5: he's as fresh as he's.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Going to be all year.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Joel Embiid is as healthy as he's going to be
- 1:38Speaker 5: all year. Of course, even if you're putting all these
- 1:42Speaker 5: pieces together, of course Philadelphia is dangerous in October. But
- 1:45Speaker 5: all of a sudden, I'm supposed to be scared of
- 1:47Speaker 5: Philadelphia because they beat the Knicks on opening night when
- 1:49Speaker 5: we had the banner distraction?
- 1:51Speaker 3: Me saying Philly is good is not an indictment on
- 1:53Speaker 3: the reigning champion New York Knicks. We hung a banner
- 1:56Speaker 3: last night at the Mecca. I didn't say the Knicks
- 1:58Speaker 3: were bad. I just said, holy shit, the Sixers are good.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Let's just see.
- 2:02Speaker 5: The Sixers get to April healthy before we start handing
- 2:05Speaker 5: them the Eastern Conference.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying. I'm not handing them anything.
- 2:08Speaker 5: You are handing them.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I'm just pointing out that they're good.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Listen, it's absolutely crazy, Stu, that you make it seem
- 2:16Speaker 6: like the 76ers are the team to beat in the East.
- 2:19Speaker 4: That's just ridiculous. It's the Celtics. We know that.
- 2:23Speaker 5: They choked that lead away.
- 2:24Speaker 2: They did, yes.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And Izzy let us know about it because he doesn't
- 2:28Speaker 3: think the Celtics are going to be very good. Taylor,
- 2:31Speaker 3: I wasn't saying I'm concerned about the Knicks. I would
- 2:34Speaker 3: have liked to have seen them in better shape. Mikael
- 2:36Speaker 3: Bridges spent the entire offseason drinking. I'm just saying the
- 2:40Speaker 3: Knicks are going to be fine. The Sixers are really,
- 2:43Speaker 3: really good.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's all. That's all.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Listen, we played them in the Eastern Conference Finals a
- 2:47Speaker 3: year ago, right? They upset Boston. We played them in
- 2:50Speaker 3: the Eastern Conference Finals. That was without Jalen Brown and
- 2:53Speaker 3: LeBron James.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So.
- 2:55Speaker 5: So the Knicks have something that I agree with you.
- 2:57Speaker 5: The Knicks are going to be fine because I think it's.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:00Speaker 4: That's what you heard.
- 3:01Speaker 2: That's what he heard.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yes. He heard.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:05Speaker 4: He heard.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Knicks are going to be fine.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Because you have Jalen Brunson, OGN and OB, Mikkel Bridges
- 3:15Speaker 5: combining for 11 of 39 from the field like. That
- 3:19Speaker 5: trio is not going to shoot that poorly on a
- 3:22Speaker 5: night-to-night basis. And if you're comparing New York and Philadelphia,
- 3:25Speaker 5: New York at least has the proof of concept where
- 3:28Speaker 5: they're bringing back virtually the entire team that just won
- 3:31Speaker 5: an NBA championship minus one. Mitchell Robinson. We've replaced Mitchell
- 3:34Speaker 5: Robinson with Andre Drummond. I started to try to get
- 3:37Speaker 5: my MVP tickets in for Andre Drummond. That start he had.
- 3:41Speaker 5: And then you saw him.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And then you realize he's not in shape.
- 3:44Speaker 5: You saw him go up for one lob. And he
- 3:46Speaker 5: came down so slow that I thought his knees were
- 3:49Speaker 5: going to disintegrate.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And LeBron could still go and get up and get
- 3:54Speaker 3: a lob and throw it down. At the age of
- 3:57Speaker 3: 41 and Reggie Miller sitting courtside calling that game saying,
- 4:00Speaker 3: when I was 41, I needed a ladder.
- 4:02Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, but with this Knicks team, we've at
- 4:05Speaker 5: least seen this group win when it matters. We've seen
- 4:07Speaker 5: them flip the switch in the playoffs where right now
- 4:12Speaker 5: the Knicks spent 53 years trying to win a championship.
- 4:15Speaker 5: I'm not going to let the first 24 hours after
- 4:17Speaker 5: watching them raise the banner to start complaining about a
- 4:21Speaker 5: basketball game in October. And I think if you're a
- 4:24Speaker 5: New York fan, It's impossible to ask Knicks fans to
- 4:27Speaker 5: separate banner night from what happened on the court with
- 4:31Speaker 5: that weight, with the emotions in Madison Square Garden. It's
- 4:34Speaker 5: generations of fans that lived. not knowing if they would
- 4:38Speaker 5: ever see their team raise that banner. And also, how
- 4:41Speaker 5: good did that NBA cup banner look, too? I knew
- 4:43Speaker 5: they were going to raise that cup.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Banner, by the way. Yes, I mean, we have two
- 4:45Speaker 2: banners now.
- 4:46Speaker 5: The second they won the Larry O'Brien, there was no
- 4:49Speaker 5: debate whether or not that cup banner.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Was going up, too.
- 4:53Speaker 2: All he's hearing is me criticizing the Knicks. You are
- 4:56Speaker 2: criticizing the Knicks. I haven't criticized them once outside of
- 4:59Speaker 2: McHale Bridges.
- 5:01Speaker 5: I am more mad at your Sixers praise right now.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Right. You're taking it as Knicks criticism?
- 5:07Speaker 5: Yeah, you're falling for the Sixers slop. They're just throwing
- 5:10Speaker 5: sloppy Joes at you right now, trying to distract you. Like, okay, LeBron.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Sloppy LeBrons.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's ridiculous. I can't say a single
- 5:21Speaker 3: bad thing about the Knicks. It was one of the
- 5:23Speaker 3: great nights of my life. What are you talking about?
- 5:25Speaker 3: I was emotional in my living room as they were
- 5:28Speaker 3: raising the banner.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Were you?
- 5:30Speaker 5: No, so this is what I was just going to
- 5:31Speaker 5: ask Mikey. Mikey, do you think it's strange that I
- 5:33Speaker 5: wasn't really emotional when I was watching the banner? Like,
- 5:36Speaker 5: I don't want to judge people for, for like, if
- 5:38Speaker 5: they were crying there, don't want to do that. But
- 5:41Speaker 5: when I'm watching Tracy Morgan, basically like weeping on the sideline,
- 5:45Speaker 5: I'm like, it feels like we had this moment in
- 5:47Speaker 5: June already. And now we're just kind of rehashing that emotion.
- 5:54Speaker 6: I look at you a little differently if you don't
- 5:56Speaker 6: get a little– I mean, openly weeping is a little.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Much for me.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Chills.
- 5:59Speaker 6: What if I got chills? But if you got chills,
- 6:02Speaker 6: if you're like, wow. Like if you were stunned silence,
- 6:06Speaker 6: I'd be okay with it. But for you to say
- 6:09Speaker 6: after you declared Jalen Brunson changed your life in the
- 6:12Speaker 6: opening playoff series and then– To just have the experience
- 6:18Speaker 6: you did following that Knicks team throughout the playoffs and
- 6:22Speaker 6: through the championship. For you to watch the banner get
- 6:25Speaker 6: raised at the Mecca and at least not get a
- 6:28Speaker 6: little bit emotional. Yeah, I'm wondering if you really loved
- 6:34Speaker 6: it or if you just liked the ride.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Good.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Now he's criticizing the Knicks. Good.
- 6:40Speaker 3: The one person I know who was emotional and was
- 6:43Speaker 3: in that building last night was Ariel Hawani.
- 6:45Speaker 2: He was on with us.
- 6:46Speaker 3: After every Knicks win during the playoffs, and he will
- 6:49Speaker 3: join us here in about five to ten minutes because
- 6:52Speaker 3: he took his kids to the game last night.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, this championship has cost him six figures.
- 6:57Speaker 4: I was going to say, where did.
- 6:58Speaker 6: He get $ 1, 800 a.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Ticket to go to that game?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Go watch them get run out the building by Philadelphia.
- 7:05Speaker 4: A far superior team.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I'm telling you right now, Mikey.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah, he's doing well.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Ariel is doing well for himself.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Very well. Well, Wani.
- 7:18Speaker 3: He's doing well. He took his kids. I mean, what
- 7:20Speaker 3: a great night. It made me emotional. I texted him
- 7:23Speaker 3: after the game.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Oh, and one.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Oh, well, no, I guess this mindset I can't get
- 7:30Speaker 5: behind for now.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I mean, listen, can we play five games first before
- 7:35Speaker 3: you start getting upset?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Can we play five games? The mindset, I understand.
- 7:39Speaker 3: You don't want me to be like that, I guess,
- 7:42Speaker 3: lackadaisical in terms of my Knicks fandom the entire season.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I will listen. If they start the season 2-8, I
- 7:48Speaker 3: promise you, I will be emotional. I'll start getting fired up.
- 7:51Speaker 2: All right?
- 7:51Speaker 5: So there's almost no situation where I'm going to get
- 7:54Speaker 5: angry with the Knicks this season where... The only thing
- 7:57Speaker 5: that I could think of that would bring me to
- 7:59Speaker 5: an anger level is.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Is Brian Cashman?
- 8:02Speaker 5: No, Knicks related.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Okay, sorry.
- 8:04Speaker 5: The only thing that could bring me to an anger
- 8:06Speaker 5: level is if the Knicks just decide, like, we're not
- 8:09Speaker 5: going to give Cat an extension. We're not going to
- 8:11Speaker 5: give Josh Hart an extension. We're not even going to
- 8:13Speaker 5: get to the playoffs. We're just going to blow it up,
- 8:15Speaker 5: which is like, why would the Knicks even do that
- 8:17Speaker 5: when you see what the... this team could do.
- 8:19Speaker 2: In the postseason. Kat was playing like a man who
- 8:21Speaker 2: wanted an extension last night.
- 8:23Speaker 5: He was playing like a guy who should get an extension, yes.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Because I'm looking at Kat and I'm like, where else
- 8:27Speaker 5: is that money going to go? So while I won't
- 8:29Speaker 5: get frustrated with the Knicks this season, or angry, I guess,
- 8:33Speaker 5: I do think it's okay to feel disappointed that the
- 8:37Speaker 5: Knicks lose game one, where once you separate the... the
- 8:41Speaker 5: banner night from the game.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:44Speaker 5: I do think the Knicks needed to be, be humbled
- 8:46Speaker 5: a bit. And like the Knicks have to come into
- 8:48Speaker 5: this season, knowing that when you win the championship, there's
- 8:51Speaker 5: going to be a target on their back the, the
- 8:53Speaker 5: entire season. And I think yesterday, good loss. Now that
- 8:59Speaker 5: I'm talking it.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Through, get it out of the way. Right. If there's
- 9:02Speaker 2: a time to lose, that would be the time to lose.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Right.
- 9:04Speaker 5: If there's ever a time to, to like, You're in
- 9:07Speaker 5: the NBA. There's going to be distractions everywhere. Every chance
- 9:10Speaker 5: you get, there's going to be distractions. If there's ever
- 9:13Speaker 5: a good reason to be distracted, it's for... hoisting a
- 9:16Speaker 5: banner up to the rafters of Madison Square Garden.
- 9:19Speaker 3: That helicopter ride for LeBron to his apartment in New
- 9:21Speaker 3: York City, though, had to be fun, right?
- 9:23Speaker 2: After the game? Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 3: The rest of the team goes on a bus back
- 9:27Speaker 3: to Philadelphia. All right, I'll see you guys game two.
- 9:31Speaker 3: To the Upper East Side.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Ridiculous.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Also, Tyrese Maxey.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's good.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Tyrese Maxey, he is reaching Nick Killer status.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Like, I hate watching Tyrese Maxey just because I know
- 9:47Speaker 5: he's going to go for, like, 30 points every night.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Can you be a Nick killer if you got just
- 9:52Speaker 4: run out the building in the Eastern Conference Finals? It
- 9:56Speaker 4: wasn't his fault.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I do think there's an obligation if you're sitting courtside.
- 10:00Speaker 3: you're one of those celebrities, you know, prides themselves on
- 10:02Speaker 3: being a Nick fan. And Spike Lee looked patently absurd
- 10:05Speaker 3: last night. He had a backpack. It was like a purse.
- 10:08Speaker 2: It was Nick leather.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I think there is an obligation to force tears to
- 10:12Speaker 3: come out of your eyes. Even if you don't want
- 10:14Speaker 3: to cry, you have to make it look like you're crying.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I feel like at home you can get away with it.
- 10:20Speaker 3: But if you're sitting courtside, you have to force some
- 10:22Speaker 3: tears to come out of those eyes.
- 10:25Speaker 6: How many rows back do you have to be before
- 10:27Speaker 6: you can not fake the tears?
- 10:28Speaker 2: Like third row, fourth row, something like that.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:31Speaker 5: So quick correction to both of you guys. We keep
- 10:33Speaker 5: saying the Sixers were in the semifinals. The Knicks beat
- 10:37Speaker 5: the Cavs in the conference finals. The Sixers very famously
- 10:42Speaker 5: don't make it to the conference finals.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You're right. I'm sorry I said that. Yes. I'm sorry,
- 10:45Speaker 2: but this team will.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yes. No.
- 10:48Speaker 5: You almost got me there.
- 10:52Speaker 6: He went fishing, almost landed a big one.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I was so close.
- 10:54Speaker 5: If I could complain about one thing when we're talking
- 10:57Speaker 5: about the fans at Madison Square Garden, I'm getting very
- 11:01Speaker 5: tired of Ben Stiller holding up his phone and recording everything.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Where's this documentary that.
- 11:05Speaker 4: We were promised?
- 11:06Speaker 2: I mean, seriously, just enjoy the moments.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Just live in the moment.
- 11:08Speaker 2: The memories, yes.
- 11:11Speaker 5: He's like a mom at his kid's soccer game. He's
- 11:13Speaker 5: like this the entire time.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Not everything needs to be documented. I mean, enough. Seriously.
- 11:18Speaker 6: I imagine that it's all the camera's facing the wrong
- 11:22Speaker 6: way and it's all just him watching the Knicks going, what?
- 11:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh, that was a good dunk.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Is he doing a doc? Is that what he's doing?
- 11:32Speaker 5: He's doing a doc, but like at some point, Like
- 11:35Speaker 5: this footage better be incredible because all he does is
- 11:38Speaker 5: have his phone out.
- 11:38Speaker 3: How's he going to approach it? He was at the
- 11:40Speaker 3: Met Gala instead of the Mecca. I mean, somebody probably
- 11:43Speaker 3: filled in standing.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Someone better.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Listen, how do you have, how do you have a
- 11:48Speaker 6: documentary without the banner raising?
- 11:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:51Speaker 6: You gotta, you gotta have, you gotta have that moment,
- 11:53Speaker 6: by the way, I'm getting sick of Spike Lee. I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 6: I've been sick of Spike Lee. And then we had
- 11:57Speaker 6: that whole off season, the whole summer where I didn't
- 12:00Speaker 6: have to look at him, you know, inserting himself into
- 12:03Speaker 6: Nick's games. and now he's back, and I immediately was
- 12:06Speaker 6: just like.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Just sit down.
- 12:09Speaker 6: There are other celebrities there, and they're enjoying the game.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Whenever you talk, bad things happen for the Knicks. Just
- 12:16Speaker 6: sit down.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Taylor, how'd you feel about Mike Brown? He was feisty
- 12:20Speaker 3: after the game. He was not happy with the team's performance.
- 12:22Speaker 3: He said even if they won, he would have felt bad.
- 12:24Speaker 3: That's how bad they were playing. I like the expectations.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I do. I like that.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Mike Brown has a process, and I hate using that word,
- 12:35Speaker 5: especially after a game against the 76ers. 76ers are taking
- 12:39Speaker 5: credit for LeBron James being part of the trust the process.
- 12:42Speaker 5: They got lucked into LeBron James. The fact that the
- 12:46Speaker 5: Celtics didn't want to part with Hugo Gonzalez. Was that
- 12:49Speaker 5: part of the process too with Sam Inkey?
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but I just love where we've arrived as an
- 12:53Speaker 3: organization where the head coach of the reigning champion New
- 12:56Speaker 3: York Knicks is saying, would not have felt good about
- 12:59Speaker 3: a win versus the Sixers given how we played. A
- 13:02Speaker 3: win's a win, and he's saying he didn't want one.
- 13:05Speaker 5: We ought a standard to uphold when you take the
- 13:07Speaker 5: court in Madison Square Garden, the world's most famous arena.
- 13:10Speaker 2: A championship standard.
- 13:12Speaker 5: We're thinking back-to-back, and luckily— Mike Brown has this attitude
- 13:17Speaker 5: because if Mike Brown showed up with your attitude, Nick's
- 13:19Speaker 5: would have lost that game by 85.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Nick's winning the game out of halftime. What attitude of
- 13:24Speaker 2: mine are you talking about?
- 13:25Speaker 5: Your laissez-faire attitude.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I guarantee you, Mike Brown, that was the word I
- 13:28Speaker 2: was searching for. I was searching for that earlier. I
- 13:31Speaker 2: said lackadaisical. Laissez-faire.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I guarantee you Mike Brown thought to himself or whispered
- 13:40Speaker 3: to somebody.
- 13:41Speaker 2: At some point last night, man, the Sixers are good.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I guarantee, no, no, I got too far.
- 13:48Speaker 5: Yeah, but when Mike Brown says that he wishes that
- 13:51Speaker 5: some of those Jalen Brunson shots ultimately didn't fall because
- 13:55Speaker 5: he thinks that they needed this loss, again, kind of
- 13:58Speaker 5: points back to Might be a good loss.
- 14:00Speaker 2: He's your coach. I love Mike Brown.
- 14:04Speaker 5: We'll recheck this at the All-Star break, but for right now,
- 14:07Speaker 5: I do love Mike Brown.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Are you reserving the right to fire him at the
- 14:10Speaker 2: All-Star break?
- 14:11Speaker 5: My guard's always up.
- 14:15Speaker 3: It was a great night. The Heat raised a banner
- 14:19Speaker 3: at Madison Square Garden. Spike Lee looked patently absurd. The Sixers.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I'm going to answer my own poll question. They're fucking good.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Ariel Hawani, next.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Stugatz here. Welcome to your most rewarding season ever, only
- 14:33Speaker 3: on FanDuel. How rewarding are we talking? More rewarding than
- 14:37Speaker 3: a touchdown with time expiring? More rewarding than an 18-point comeback?
- 14:42Speaker 3: Maybe even more rewarding than an O-lineman catching a touchdown.

- 16:04Speaker 3: So last year during the Knicks championship run, after every.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Single win, we would have Ariel Helwani on.
- 16:10Speaker 3: The show to discuss the win, not after losses, only
- 16:14Speaker 3: after wins. We haven't spoken to him since the Knicks,
- 16:18Speaker 3: maybe the day after the Knicks won. the NBA championship,
- 16:22Speaker 3: and he swore to us if they go 0-82, he
- 16:25Speaker 3: would be fine with it moving forward. I said the
- 16:28Speaker 3: same thing. I am good for life, yet I found
- 16:30Speaker 3: myself getting upset as the Knicks lost to the Sixers.
- 16:34Speaker 3: First game of the year last night, and Ariel's with
- 16:36Speaker 3: us right now, and he joins us. He sent me
- 16:39Speaker 3: a lovely picture of him and his kids at the
- 16:42Speaker 3: game as the Knicks raised the banner last night, Taylor.
- 16:46Speaker 3: at the Mecca at Madison Square Garden. What a great evening.
- 16:50Speaker 3: What a great night. That is amazing that you were able,
- 16:53Speaker 3: thank you for doing this, buddy, that you were able
- 16:55Speaker 3: to enjoy that night with your children.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That is fantastic.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Thank you, guys. Thank you for having me again. I'm
- 17:03Speaker 1: getting nostalgic talking to you on my way to work
- 17:06Speaker 1: because it feels like June all over again. And so
- 17:10Speaker 1: this is a lovely way to button it all up
- 17:12Speaker 1: as we begin to turn the page. But yeah, I
- 17:15Speaker 1: had to be there. I dreamed of that. I felt
- 17:20Speaker 1: like I was watching a movie reenactment of what it
- 17:23Speaker 1: would feel like if the Knicks won in a movie,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but we would never actually experience it. And so I
- 17:29Speaker 1: kept having to shake my head. I would just say
- 17:31Speaker 1: to my kids, I can't believe that's there. I can't
- 17:34Speaker 1: believe that's a real thing. The tickets weren't cheap, but
- 17:38Speaker 1: I needed to be there. I needed to experience it.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I also kept telling them we may never see this again,
- 17:44Speaker 1: certainly not in my life. And so it was amazing.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It was emotional. And yeah, obviously, like once the game starts,
- 17:51Speaker 1: I always wondered, I always would ask my friends who are,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know, Warriors fans or Eagles fans or whatever, Yankees fans. Okay,
- 18:00Speaker 1: so like you don't really care as much. the next
- 18:02Speaker 1: time around, the next season. And they all have their
- 18:05Speaker 1: different theories. And there I was getting a little bit
- 18:07Speaker 1: annoyed throughout the game. But by the end, and as
- 18:10Speaker 1: we were walking home, I was like, yeah, this doesn't matter.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I am still staying true to that 0-82. I hope
- 18:17Speaker 1: that doesn't happen. But the experience, the visuals, the emotion,
- 18:23Speaker 1: everything like that was the best word that I could
- 18:26Speaker 1: come up with is surreal. And I don't even think
- 18:28Speaker 1: that word is good enough because it was just beyond
- 18:31Speaker 1: my wildest dreams.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Ariel, when the Knicks fans are chanting in the garden
- 18:35Speaker 5: to LeBron James at the free throw line, we don't
- 18:38Speaker 5: want you, are you participating in those chants?
- 18:42Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Because I don't feel like LeBron is... LeBron is not
- 18:48Speaker 1: my villain, if you will. I know we've had our
- 18:51Speaker 1: moments with him, but to be honest, his best years
- 18:54Speaker 1: were sort of during our down years. We don't have
- 18:56Speaker 1: any classic playoff struggles from the 90s. I do feel
- 19:01Speaker 1: like all of this stuff, like, oh, had they not won,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I would have signed here. Him living here is a
- 19:06Speaker 1: little bit lame, but I don't feel that. Honestly, when
- 19:10Speaker 1: it comes to basketball right now, and I'm sure my
- 19:12Speaker 1: feelings will change once Tyrese comes to town or someone
- 19:15Speaker 1: like that, I don't have that much hate in my heart.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm good. It's all good. I have some sister fans
- 19:22Speaker 1: being like, oh, my God, Andre Drummond, what a drop-off
- 19:25Speaker 1: for you guys. Like, I just sent them a picture
- 19:26Speaker 1: of the ring. Nothing you can say. Even people being like,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Mickey Mouse Championship, easiest run.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Cool.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Don't care.
- 19:34Speaker 2: We got the ring.
- 19:35Speaker 1: We got the banner. Sixers fans, 1983 was a long,
- 19:38Speaker 1: long time ago, so enjoy sweating it out.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Taylor, I texted him after the game just to put
- 19:44Speaker 3: some chum in the water to see where he was psychologically.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I said, oh, and one. Oh, well.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Were your kids participating in that cheer, though, about LeBron?
- 19:57Speaker 1: No, I think I had to tell them what it meant,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and then they thought it was funny. But, again, like–
- 20:04Speaker 1: I don't have like, honestly, like I feel more animosity
- 20:08Speaker 1: towards Embiid and Jalen Brown than him. I feel like
- 20:10Speaker 1: they've been like nemeses of ours, if that's the correct word. But,
- 20:17Speaker 1: you know, I really in the back of my mind,
- 20:19Speaker 1: had we spoke yesterday morning, I was sort of anticipating this.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's just so much emotion. There's the pregame stuff and
- 20:27Speaker 1: you're getting cold. Like they came out, they came out
- 20:29Speaker 1: to warm up without any introduction before the ceremony. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: thought the announcer would be like, please welcome your 2025-2026.
- 20:36Speaker 1: They just came out because I think they wanted to
- 20:39Speaker 1: get it in before they had to stand there and
- 20:41Speaker 1: do all that stuff. And then there's all the emotion.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And then there's the intros of the whole team. It
- 20:46Speaker 1: was just a lot. It was a long night. So
- 20:49Speaker 1: I sort of expected a bit of a drop-off. But
- 20:52Speaker 1: we're good, man. We're so deep. Galen's not going to
- 20:55Speaker 1: play like that all the time. Kat was very frustrating,
- 20:58Speaker 1: but great in the fourth quarter. Andre was tremendous until
- 21:00Speaker 1: he gassed out. I feel very, very good about this team. Obviously,
- 21:04Speaker 1: the East is stacked, but I love our team, and
- 21:08Speaker 1: I love the fact that we're defending champions. I keep
- 21:11Speaker 1: asking the guys that I work with, like, how long
- 21:14Speaker 1: am I allowed to celebrate for? They say until a
- 21:16Speaker 1: new champion is crowned. I'm going to go with that
- 21:18Speaker 1: for now. But, hell, I mean, it's still so unbelievable
- 21:24Speaker 1: that all this transpired.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Ariel, I'm like you where I don't have the same
- 21:28Speaker 5: animosity towards LeBron James that some Knicks fans have. But
- 21:32Speaker 5: for me, if I had to put my animosity anywhere yesterday,
- 21:36Speaker 5: I'm glad that Reggie Miller was in the building as
- 21:38Speaker 5: that banner was going up.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I noted that to my kids as well, and that
- 21:45Speaker 1: made me feel good. I didn't get to watch it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And so, like, was he being nice? Was he being annoying?
- 21:51Speaker 1: How was he? I didn't get to watch the broadcast.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I mean, Taylor, I don't know how Taylor felt about it.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I thought he was being nice and respectful of the
- 21:57Speaker 3: Knicks winning that title and what a crazy run it was.
- 22:00Speaker 3: He kept talking about how many double-digit leads they came
- 22:04Speaker 3: back from during that run and how impressive they were.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Okay, well, I'm glad to hear that. That means he's
- 22:10Speaker 1: a professional. I do feel sometimes... Like, they sort of
- 22:13Speaker 1: belabor the whole, you know, rivalry. Like, it was a long,
- 22:16Speaker 1: long time ago, and we need to kind of move on. And,
- 22:18Speaker 1: you know, we could talk about his actual record against
- 22:20Speaker 1: the Knicks as a player in the playoffs, all that stuff. But, yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: that was the right move. There was something very poetic
- 22:28Speaker 1: about that, 1,000%. I wish just for one night we
- 22:32Speaker 1: could have brought back all the villains just to watch
- 22:35Speaker 1: us celebrate. But he's sort of king villain. I also
- 22:39Speaker 1: wish Patrick was there. It's unfortunate that he wasn't. I
- 22:42Speaker 1: know he's now working for the Wizards. But what a
- 22:44Speaker 1: nice touch to have Clyde hand out the rings and the—
- 22:50Speaker 1: Either the family members of the 70-73 teams or the
- 22:54Speaker 1: actual stars of those teams being in attendance was just
- 22:56Speaker 1: so amazing, man. I really still can't believe that we
- 23:01Speaker 1: all witnessed that. And I thought the garden, I thought
- 23:05Speaker 1: having Mike Green emcee it was perfect. And those rings
- 23:08Speaker 1: are out of this world. They really knocked it out
- 23:11Speaker 1: of the park. It was so special.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So as they're raising this banner, because you and I
- 23:16Speaker 3: have been waiting for this as sports fans for our
- 23:18Speaker 3: entire lives.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'm not there.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I'm in my living room. I found myself getting emotional
- 23:23Speaker 3: as they raised the banner.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Were there tears?
- 23:25Speaker 3: What kind of emotions were going through you at that time?
- 23:30Speaker 1: One million percent. One million percent. My eyes, I wasn't bawling,
- 23:35Speaker 1: but I felt it. I felt it when it comes
- 23:37Speaker 1: to your eyes and your nose. I felt it. Just,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you know, all that stuff, the emotion of this past
- 23:45Speaker 1: spring slash summer, them finally getting over the hump. And honestly,
- 23:49Speaker 1: like in a weird way, I have to say, I
- 23:52Speaker 1: just felt, and I know this is going to sound
- 23:54Speaker 1: dramatic and it sounds crazy when I talk to someone
- 23:56Speaker 1: who's not a sports fan. I just felt all the
- 23:58Speaker 1: pain wash away. I felt everything wash away. But even
- 24:02Speaker 1: now when I see everything, like I don't feel any,
- 24:05Speaker 1: it's like, oh, we know how the story ended. It's
- 24:07Speaker 1: all good. Charles Smith, Tyrese, the finger roll, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Like I just, I just, I literally felt it all
- 24:15Speaker 1: wash away. The story, we know how it ends. It
- 24:18Speaker 1: ends right. We got our moment and no one can
- 24:21Speaker 1: ever take that away from us. And that was, that
- 24:24Speaker 1: was very, very overwhelming. And to be able to like,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, like when you're watching it on TV, you're
- 24:28Speaker 1: watching what they, what they are serving up to you.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But I was trying to look at everything, including my
- 24:34Speaker 1: kids because I wanted to remember them at this age
- 24:37Speaker 1: with me, Obviously, I couldn't dictate all of this, but, man,
- 24:41Speaker 1: if you asked me today, like, you know, 44-year-old version
- 24:46Speaker 1: of me as a dad as opposed to, you know,
- 24:49Speaker 1: 14-year-old version of me, this is so much better, and
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm sure you can attest to that.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Just to be able to pass this down to them
- 24:56Speaker 1: and telling them, like, their kids are hopefully going to
- 24:59Speaker 1: ask them what was it like watching the 2026 Knicks
- 25:02Speaker 1: the way I would ask people about the 73 and
- 25:04Speaker 1: 70 Knicks. and the way you'd see people's faces light
- 25:07Speaker 1: up talking about those guys, it was so special. It
- 25:10Speaker 1: was so special. I have to say, between tickets to
- 25:14Speaker 1: Game 3, tickets to last night, and all the damn
- 25:17Speaker 1: merch that I bought, this championship has cost me a
- 25:20Speaker 1: pretty damn penny.
- 25:21Speaker 2: And so I.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Need to chill out a little bit because it's been absurd.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yes, but the memories will last a lifetime. No comps here.
- 25:29Speaker 2: But the memories will last a lifetime. That's it, man.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Ariel, I don't want to pocket watch you, but I
- 25:36Speaker 5: was going to make a point when you have all
- 25:38Speaker 5: these experiences. The Ariel Helwani show must be going great.
- 25:43Speaker 5: The Knicks announced that they're selling 200 replica championship rings
- 25:48Speaker 5: for basically $ 20, 000.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Is that in your shopping cart?
- 25:52Speaker 2: That might be the one.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Piece of merch that i'm uh declining i i i
- 26:01Speaker 1: will say that only because believe it or not did
- 26:06Speaker 1: the thought cross my mind for a second maybe but
- 26:09Speaker 1: at the end of the day i'm i'm actually not
- 26:11Speaker 1: a big jewelry guy uh like i don't i don't
- 26:13Speaker 1: have anything i don't have a a watch i don't
- 26:16Speaker 1: have a bracelet and i just never like i tried
- 26:18Speaker 1: to wear a wedding ring for a week and it
- 26:20Speaker 1: was bothering the hell out of me. And so I
- 26:22Speaker 1: had to excuse myself. So I don't know like how
- 26:25Speaker 1: you wear that thing around town. I mean, I doubt
- 26:27Speaker 1: they will. So that one might be one that I'll just,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you know, I'll just look at the pictures. We did
- 26:33Speaker 1: get a replica banner, which is going up in my
- 26:35Speaker 1: studio today. I'll be doing a small ceremony for that
- 26:38Speaker 1: as well.
- 26:39Speaker 2: So I'm really looking forward to that.
- 26:41Speaker 3: You're going to have a banner-raising ceremony in the studio today?
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely.
- 26:48Speaker 2: That is so good.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Check him out, the Ariel Hawani Show on YouTube, wherever
- 26:54Speaker 3: you get your podcasts. As well, I don't want to
- 26:57Speaker 3: ask him how much he has spent between the things.
- 27:01Speaker 2: What do you think, Taylor?
- 27:02Speaker 3: Like north of $ 10, 000 probably?
- 27:04Speaker 4: Don't want a pocket watch.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I want one of those rings.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I don't know if it's tacky, but like it's well north.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I mean, just the two tickets alone.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Just the two games that I went to, three seats each.
- 27:18Speaker 1: was well over that. I mean, I was struggling with
- 27:21Speaker 1: what to do with the game yesterday. Like, you know,
- 27:24Speaker 1: there's a bit of a game plan when you try
- 27:27Speaker 1: to buy tickets on the second market and all that. Like,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you wait till the very end. You get them right away.
- 27:32Speaker 1: You know, you kind of have to, like, watch it
- 27:33Speaker 1: like it's the stock market. And then by Friday of
- 27:36Speaker 1: last week, I was getting too anxious. I'm like, all right,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I just have to buy it. And I'll say that
- 27:41Speaker 1: the tickets that I bought on Friday, I checked yesterday morning.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I was like, okay, let me see if I got
- 27:46Speaker 1: screwed here. they were triple the price and they were
- 27:51Speaker 1: not cheap to begin with. And I was like, Holy smokes.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I would be devastated if this, if I would have went,
- 27:56Speaker 1: because some of the guys I work with say like,
- 27:58Speaker 1: wait till the last hour. I'm like, no way I
- 28:00Speaker 1: can't do that. That's way too, that's way too stressful
- 28:03Speaker 1: for me. So yeah, those tickets were nuts. I hope
- 28:06Speaker 1: they go back down to earth now because everyone obviously
- 28:09Speaker 1: deserves to be there. And, and it's, yeah, it's a,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it's a lot, it's a lot, but no regrets whatsoever.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I would have, been devastated had I not been in
- 28:18Speaker 1: the building yesterday.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Two quick questions. We'll get you out of here.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Is that the most impressed your sons have ever been
- 28:23Speaker 3: with you last night?
- 28:26Speaker 1: With me?
- 28:27Speaker 3: I mean, you took them to Banner Night, both of them.
- 28:30Speaker 2: I mean, that's amazing. I know.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Is it possible that they just kind of expected
- 28:36Speaker 1: it at this point?
- 28:38Speaker 2: Well, they're going to expect a ring.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I mean... I was like, guys, anyone else from your
- 28:45Speaker 1: grades going? Anyone from school? I'm like, no, I think
- 28:47Speaker 1: we're the only ones. They're like, oh, my God, this
- 28:49Speaker 1: is crazy. I was like, well, they're not about that life, right?
- 28:54Speaker 1: But I really think that they appreciated it, and we
- 28:59Speaker 1: took it all in. We were waiting in line at
- 29:02Speaker 1: 530 when they opened the doors. I wanted to be
- 29:04Speaker 1: in my seat. I didn't want to miss a thing. And, yeah, like,
- 29:08Speaker 1: you know, it was surreal about it. It was like
- 29:10Speaker 1: I've never been to a sporting event where the game
- 29:12Speaker 1: felt like an afterthought. Like, to me, the main event,
- 29:15Speaker 1: the attraction, was the pregame ceremony. One time I flew in.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I was in college.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I was at Syracuse.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And I flew in by myself to watch Ewing's number
- 29:27Speaker 1: being retired in 03. And that was at halftime. And
- 29:30Speaker 1: that felt like the main attraction. But this, to me,
- 29:33Speaker 1: was like, oh, this is over. And, like, wow, now
- 29:35Speaker 1: we get to watch– LeBron and Jalen Brown and the
- 29:38Speaker 1: Sixers and all that, It all felt like an afterthought.
- 29:41Speaker 1: It was very unique in that regard. And the last
- 29:43Speaker 1: time I was in that building was for game three.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It felt in a way like the anticipation and buzz
- 29:48Speaker 1: of a final, but without any of the stress and
- 29:50Speaker 1: anxiety because you knew that we were just there to celebrate,
- 29:54Speaker 1: which is pretty darn unique.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Right. Win or lose, we won.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Was there a single Knick fan yelling anything derogatory at
- 30:00Speaker 3: any of the Knick players last night?
- 30:01Speaker 2: There's no way, right? No one was getting on bridges, correct?
- 30:04Speaker 1: No. You know, it's funny. There were a couple of
- 30:08Speaker 1: times where it was like, Drummond, finish it. What are
- 30:11Speaker 1: you doing, you know? By the way, Drummond was great
- 30:14Speaker 1: until he wasn't, until he sort of ran out of gas,
- 30:18Speaker 1: cat with the fouls and all that stuff.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yes. He was playing like a guy, Ariel, who didn't
- 30:25Speaker 2: win a title last year, you know?
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, he'll figure it out. I think he'll be okay.
- 30:31Speaker 1: He started last year a little rough as well. It
- 30:34Speaker 1: honestly felt like the building had a little bit of
- 30:37Speaker 1: a letdown as well, just from an emotional standpoint. There
- 30:39Speaker 1: was just a lot at the beginning, and that's the
- 30:43Speaker 1: way it should be. No regrets. The game is an afterthought. Congratulations.
- 30:46Speaker 1: to the Sixers on their championship, beating us opening night.
- 30:50Speaker 1: They're all very happy. They're all very salty. The vast
- 30:53Speaker 1: majority of these fans have never seen a Sixers championship. 1983,
- 30:57Speaker 1: like I said, a long time ago, the longest drought
- 30:59Speaker 1: right now in the NBA. And so, you know, I'm
- 31:04Speaker 1: hoping for them all the best. Hopefully they get over
- 31:06Speaker 1: the hump like we did. I don't think they will. But,
- 31:10Speaker 1: you know, I was talking about this last night. I'm
- 31:14Speaker 1: setting the line at 25 games this season as to
- 31:18Speaker 1: how many times that starting five plays together. Are you
- 31:21Speaker 1: taking the over or the under?
- 31:22Speaker 2: I would go under.
- 31:24Speaker 5: Ariel, there was one point during the broadcast where Jamal
- 31:26Speaker 5: Crawford was saying he thinks Joel Embiid's going to play
- 31:29Speaker 5: 70 games this season. I was like, in what world
- 31:31Speaker 5: is Joel Embiid playing 70 games?
- 31:33Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 31:34Speaker 1: No chance.
- 31:35Speaker 2: If anything, they're just.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I mean, again, we've seen this before. They're going to
- 31:39Speaker 1: save him for the playoffs. They know that. Try to get, like,
- 31:41Speaker 1: a top-four seed in that. But I just don't see it.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I don't see it. I don't see them playing Twitter yet.
- 31:46Speaker 1: And by the way, without Joel, they're still incredible. Like,
- 31:49Speaker 1: just the three-headed monster of Maxie and Brown and Edgecombe
- 31:54Speaker 1: is tremendous in its own right. And using LeBron as
- 31:56Speaker 1: a facilitator is brilliant. They're doing all the right things.
- 31:59Speaker 1: But I just feel like more often than not, it
- 32:01Speaker 1: doesn't work in the first season.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 32:03Speaker 3: We have an entire season here to call ourselves the
- 32:05Speaker 3: defending NBA champions.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So let's just keep a smile on our face.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Let's not get too low, even though we will if
- 32:12Speaker 3: they get off to a shaky start here. He's going
- 32:14Speaker 3: to raise a banner today on his show, the Ariel
- 32:17Speaker 3: Helwani Show.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Check him out on.
- 32:19Speaker 3: YouTube, wherever you get your podcasts. He has a banner-raising
- 32:22Speaker 3: ceremony during the show. I'm going to watch it. I
- 32:24Speaker 3: can't wait.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Thank you. And by the way, one last thing. It
- 32:29Speaker 1: wasn't quite Pat Riley saying we're going back-to-back. I believe
- 32:33Speaker 1: that was maybe in like 87 or 88, something like that.
- 32:36Speaker 1: My memory is foggy, but I love what Jalen had
- 32:38Speaker 1: to say about we want to feel this all over again.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I love that little touch there. So I'm very, very, very, very,
- 32:46Speaker 1: very excited about this. And without any of the anxiety
- 32:49Speaker 1: of the what if, and oh my God, we'll never
- 32:51Speaker 1: see it, this is going to be a lot of fun.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Thanks for having me, guys. Always great to check in.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Appreciate you very much.
- 32:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 32:56Speaker 3: We love you, buddy. We want to feel that way
- 32:58Speaker 3: as well. But if we don't, we don't. I mean,
- 32:59Speaker 3: that's the attitude we need to have.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Moving forward here, you know?
- 33:03Speaker 4: Amen.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Amen.
- 33:04Speaker 2: All right, man.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Check him out, the Ariel Hawani Show, wherever you get
- 33:08Speaker 3: your podcast and on YouTube. We appreciate it always, buddy.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Thank you so much for doing this. I'm glad you
- 33:13Speaker 3: had a great time. Memories that will last a lifetime
- 33:16Speaker 3: with you and your children. That's fantastic, man.
- 33:18Speaker 2: I'm happy for you.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Thanks so much.
