- 2:44Wait, let's bring in our good friend Hannah Gardner from the Canaal Charleson Jumaine
- 2:46Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, Good
- 2:51morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, how are you? I'm
- 2:54fine? Are you a Will you be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday?
- 3:01Probably a little bit and then a little bit not a little bit. Are
- 3:05you one of those people that just wants to see the commercials with a halftime
- 3:07show or do you even care one way or the other. I'm just more
- 3:12so there for the family gathering. Okay, all right, the food aspect
- 3:15is what got handhand? Is that what you're saying? Yep? All right,
- 3:20all right? So what's the what's your favorite when it comes to the
- 3:23Super Bowl party? What is your what's your favorite to go to dish?
- 3:27That's what? Yeah, I think I think if you did a nationwide pol
- 3:30and it sounds like something that maybe the guys on hotline would do. Uh,
- 3:35what is your your favorite super Bowl thing? It probably would be buffalo
- 3:38chicken dip. That that's probably what everybody would say. Let's get to why
- 3:42you're here and we can always talk about buffalo chicken dip and I'm not I'm
- 3:45not opposed to that, but let's talk about our adopt me please pet of
- 3:49the week. His name is aunt Man. There's always story posted or the
- 3:53picture, I should say, post a little story as well. Posted to
- 3:55Dave Island Radio on Facebook and at Dave A seventy The Dave Alan Show on
- 4:00Twitter or the artists from the known Twitter now known as X tell us about
- 4:03aunt Man, Hannah. All Right, so aunt Man, he is a
- 4:09nail. He is a puppy. He is around I believe three Peter Talton
- 4:15on four ish months old, So he is a puppy puppy, and he
- 4:19is microchipped and he is vaccinated, so he is definitely looking for his forever
- 4:27home. He is a puppy, so we don't know too much about his
- 4:30background. However, we do know that he does prefer playful dogs. He
- 4:35loves playing with other dogs. He's a social butterfly. He definitely loves people
- 4:40as well. He's got a lot of energy. So someone who either someone
- 4:46or a couple or family who is ready to take on a puppy who wants
- 4:50to play has a lot of energy. Maybe they're looking for a puppy that
- 4:56they want to start taking outside a lot or something and maybe on or traveling
- 5:00or something. I feel like aunt Man would be a good one for that.
- 5:04But he is kid friendly from what we have seen and what we have
- 5:08witnessed. But of course with any dog, any puppy, we always about
- 5:13cautions. But he is looking for us forever home. And we are excited
- 5:16for him. He's I think he's somewhere like maybe ten fifteen pounds or something.
- 5:21But he is a good dog. He just needs a good home.
- 5:26Well, he's a beautiful dog. Any idea what kind of dog he is?
- 5:30No, gosh, he looks like he's got some specific kind of breeds,
- 5:33and I'm not I mean, with most of the puppies that we have
- 5:36currently, a lot of them look like they have like some form of carrier,
- 5:43whether it's like a Staffordshire Terrier or pitbull terrier or something like that,
- 5:47but they definitely look like they have some form of that. However, this
- 5:53little man looks like he's got a bunch of other things. So I couldn't
- 5:57tell you honestly how big a dog approximately do you think he'll be? I
- 6:00mean, I know it's kind of hard to tell. He's four months old
- 6:02right now, but is he going to be a media? Would you consider
- 6:05what he's going to be in the endgame, like like a medium size larger
- 6:09dog? What do you think? Yeah? I think that he isn't going
- 6:13to be like large. I would say more of a medium. Now,
- 6:16everybody's small, medium and large is different. I've learned that over the course
- 6:21of years. It depends on whether you live in an apartment or a twenty
- 6:27room house. As to how big the dog is, I guess right,
- 6:30right, right, But I think an man would be no more than sixty
- 6:34pounds. I wouldn't say, but even if he reaches that, it's hard
- 6:40to say with not knowing what he is. He's definitely a cute man.
- 6:45And he's got a little bit of like grussy like hair on his face.
- 6:48So he's got a beard. Is that what you're saying? He has a
- 6:54beard? Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's got like a beard, but
- 6:59it's like a liary hair. Oh okay, oddly enough, oddly enough,
- 7:02my grandmother had the same thing. But but but but but nonetheless, uh
- 7:06ant Man is the dog's name. And so where does an am an man
- 7:11come from? Any idea? Honestly, I have no idea. I know
- 7:15that they in our admissions department, they have lists that they take from like
- 7:20the employees are on the shelter, or like friends and family, or if
- 7:24you ever want to bring in a list of some name ideas or something,
- 7:28as long as their name is appropriate or anything. But they will definitely take
- 7:33the man. And we love having name ideas if you had definitely bring them
- 7:39by well. And I think that would maybe something that we could tie the
- 7:41kids in with as well, because eventually, I mean, not every dog
- 7:44can be you know, can be named Rex, you know, I mean
- 7:46you gotta, you gotta like kind of you know, shake it up a
- 7:49little different time. Maybe it's something when you have your kids groups up there,
- 7:53you could ask them to come up with names for And again with Pats,
- 7:56it's kind of like most people will take a look at him and say,
- 7:58okay, this is you know he or she looks like this or whatever.
- 8:01That's why, you know why. Uh we had my wife and I
- 8:03had a cat for years that was jet Black. So her name was was
- 8:07Midnight you know. Uh so but that maybe something week. What do we
- 8:11gotta do to get a pet up there named Coop? Who's who's producing the
- 8:16show today? What do we have to do for that? I will tell
- 8:18them, And then when they name the next dog that comes in the Scoop,
- 8:22I will send you a picture of it and I'll let you shoot all
- 8:24right, all right, it sounds good. I want to ask you a
- 8:26couple of quick questions before we let you go. Uh, and of course,
- 8:30you know, aunt man came in as a stray, and we know
- 8:33all the time if you follow your social media that you'll you'll, matter of
- 8:35fact, you normally do a little collage of like today's strays and so on
- 8:39and so forth, and people I've seen on the on your social media will
- 8:43comment on that and they, let's say, well, you know, I'd
- 8:46like to adopt a particular pet, which is a good thing, don't get
- 8:50me wrong, But what is the procedure for the strays? How long do
- 8:52you hold them and before they become available for adoption? And the second part
- 8:58of that quite S'm gonna make you work today. Second part of that question
- 9:01is how does one go about claiming an and an animal that may belong to
- 9:05them? You know, let's say I live in South Charleston and my dog
- 9:09or cat you know, gets out and I think that is mine that's being
- 9:13posted on there. How would I go about I mean, other than just
- 9:18a phone call, what do I need to do to say that, hey,
- 9:20that's mine? Or the first part of the question was is if I
- 9:24want to adopt one, what's the whole period on strays? Yeah, so
- 9:30tray's whenever they come in, they legally, under West Virginia Code laws,
- 9:35they have to go on a stray hold for five days. Now, that
- 9:39is five full, twenty four hour days. That's not just like workdays,
- 9:46so it's technically it doesn't include the first day that they come in because they
- 9:50could come in in the middle of the day or the beginning of the day,
- 9:52so it doesn't include the first day or that very last day. So
- 9:56technically, if you really think about it, it's about like a full week
- 10:01before they're available. So if you want to reclaim an animal, then all
- 10:07you'll need to do is you can tell us. You can look on our
- 10:09website. However, I always recommend if you have a missing dog and you're
- 10:16just gonna wait it out and chat to post about it or anything that is
- 10:20a okay, However, I recommend coming out to the shelter very first thing
- 10:24and maybe keeping an eye out for the whole time that you're looking for your
- 10:28dog, like check on our website, and then whenever you find it,
- 10:33if we do have it, you can bring up some evidence that it is
- 10:37yours, some proof whether it's vet records, very clear pictures that we can
- 10:41see, like any sponsor marks that is obvious that it's your dogs. Any
- 10:48any kind of like backstory, records of video, just anything that shows that
- 10:52is proof of yours. And then we need your well of course. Well
- 10:56and then you could also start by it, you know, as based you
- 11:00can't try to get your your pet microchipped as well. Yes, yes,
- 11:03and also every dog that comes in, even when it's astray, if it's
- 11:07not already microchips, we microchip it, okay for future use in the case
- 11:13that happens again, what happens to get loose again and comes back to the
- 11:16shelter, we know that it's already registered to you, and we can just
- 11:20call you and say, hey, we have your dog again. He's back
- 11:22in jail. Come get back in jail again. He's a repeat offender.
- 11:26Got a text here waiting for you. Hannah says, which dog or cat
- 11:31have been at the shelter the longest? Now you may not know that off
- 11:33the top of your head, but are there any that the kind of stick
- 11:37out that have been there the longest? I know that there is one dog
- 11:41that I can think of off the top of my head, and her name
- 11:45is in Nez. She should still be there. I don't think she's gotten
- 11:50adopted yet or anything. However, she is a very very very sweet girl.
- 11:54She's a black and white dog. If you're on our website, you
- 11:58can just look up a Nez. It's a inn e Z. I knows
- 12:01she is one of them. We had quite a few, quite a handful
- 12:05that are long term residents currently. So if you go on our website adopt
- 12:11Charleston dot com and you go to our Meet the Dog section, if you
- 12:16look at the filters, you can filter it from like who's been there the
- 12:20longest day, and who's been there the shortest day, and whoever comes up
- 12:24first. I think Lola, Zoe and z are going to be the top
- 12:26one. Okay, well, it's very good. I didn't know that you
- 12:28had that feature on her. That's that's very good. A couple of good
- 12:31things before we let you go. Valentine's Day is coming up. Happy Valentine's
- 12:33Day. By the way, tell me about this love is Blind thing that
- 12:37you folks have been doing for Valentine's Day. So we have love this blind
- 12:43kind of It's not necessarily like an event where you can come in and do
- 12:46anything. It is just more so where we are posting on our social media
- 12:52blacking out the dog and then telling you about the dog without saying like the
- 12:56dog's name or anything like that, So we kind of give you like a
- 13:01love is blind feature without being able to know who the dog is. We
- 13:05tell you all about the dog, so you don't have like that first look
- 13:07judgment, so then you kind of know all about the dog. And if
- 13:13you are interested in the dogs, then you can come up, or you
- 13:16can just call us and ask us you know which one it is that we're
- 13:20talking about, or we can meet, like if you want to come straight
- 13:24up to the shelter, we can do like a meet and greet with you
- 13:26and the dog, and you get to kind of just learn who the dog
- 13:28is, see who the dog is, and maybe you want to foster it
- 13:31and take it home for the weekends. It's kind of more so just to
- 13:35get a lot of the dogs that maybe aren't getting it as much of a
- 13:39tension as we would like them to a chance I found in a home as
- 13:43well, or even just a foster. Right, And speaking of Valentine's that
- 13:46you've been doing a thing, and this will be the last thing we'll cover
- 13:48before we let you go. You've been doing a thing where you can make
- 13:50a donation to the shelter and get a Valentine from a shelter pet. Yeah,
- 13:56so we actually have Valentine's Sake cards that we are sending out and we
- 14:01have like a certain dog's picture in it with a little Vale quote from them.
- 14:09So it's like you're getting the Valentine's Fay cards from one of our shelter
- 14:11pets. So definitely it's just a small little donation. So if you want
- 14:16that little cute card from a shelter pet, then definitely check out our social
- 14:20media and our website and do it. And it's going to be really,
- 14:24really cute. And we've already sent a good handful of them out, all
- 14:26right, And again more information about that on their social media and also on
- 14:30their website. Hannah, as always, I appreciate you joining us. We'll
- 14:33talk again soon. Thanks a lot, thank you. And a gardener again
- 14:37from the Canal Charles Humane Association. Again the pet we're trying to get adopted,
- 14:41ant Man. He is almost four months old, came in as astray.
- 14:46Hannah doesn't seem to think that he's going to be a really big dog,
- 14:50probably a medium sized dog. He's been at the shelter, as I
- 14:52said, taken in as a trace Ince October. Not fixed yet but will
- 14:56be. Would be a great pet for kids. He seems to love kids,
- 15:00and he also seems to do pretty well. There's always exceptions to that,
- 15:03but always seems to seems to be doing pretty well with other dogs,
- 15:05So would make it a great family pet. Loves other dogs, seems to
- 15:09love kids. Still learning on the least, Sannah told us, but that'll
- 15:13take some time. Again, he's only four months old. So if you're
- 15:16interested in ant Man, the ant Man's picture is posted on my social media

- 18:41with us as well as the coach, Wayne Casey. Stephanie, good morning,
- 18:45welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you for having us,
- 18:47and coach thank you for being here as well. All Right, so Stephanie,
- 18:51let's start with you. You you're kind of an old hand at this,
- 18:53You've done this several times on the show before. We're excited about season
- 18:57two. I'm really excited about season two. Season one came and gone.
- 19:03I thought we had a really, really good season. We actually made it
- 19:06to the first round of the playoffs, so that's always a goal and something
- 19:08we achieved for the first year. Had some great support from some local guys
- 19:12here and in great support from the TBL, the Basketball League, which is
- 19:18the league that we play in. So we've got some great recognition for our
- 19:22team last year, as well as some recognition for our venue in West Virginia
- 19:26State University, beautiful facility and our production team, so great season. It's
- 19:32an amazing facility, and I mean hats off to coach Poor and those folks
- 19:34over there, and that I mean again, I spent four days over there,
- 19:38and you just can't ask for a better facility to play basketball. I
- 19:41mean, the coliseum and convention Center is awesome, but this is also in
- 19:45a different kind of way. It really is kept. Let me talk to
- 19:48you a little bit. First time you've been on the show, Coach Wayne
- 19:49Casey, talk about your background and how you get involved in all this.
- 19:55I started in twenty thirteen with the IBL and the PBO, and then moving
- 20:00forward, I've been coaching for about ten fifteen years. So now I got
- 20:04the opportunity to work with the West Virginia Grind and I'm really excited about it.
- 20:11It's going to be a great season for what you told me, Stephanie
- 20:14actually said to me off the air. You said we're going to be really
- 20:18good this year. And every coach says that coming in, and every PR
- 20:22person whatever says that coming in, But you really mean it, Coach.
- 20:26I'll tell you this. I'll say this on paper right now. I think
- 20:29will be really good. But paper's just nothing. Paper. Why they play
- 20:34the games. I give us some of the important dates that people need to
- 20:38know about your opening day, training camp, things of that nature. Training
- 20:42camps actually next week, so we're kicking that off on Friday for a couple
- 20:45of days, and we'll have that roster submitted to the TBL by February twenty
- 20:51first, so that will be the grand boom. There's the West Virginia grind
- 20:55for the upcoming season. Are Our first home game is March the eight.
- 21:00We're going to have ten home games played at West Virginia State University. We've
- 21:03got twelve on the road this year, so we'll be traveling again a couple
- 21:07of different teams in the conference that we're playing this year. We'll be traveling
- 21:10to Cincinnati and Louisville, back up to Indiana where we played a few games.
- 21:15But Frederick, Maryland has a new team this year and we'll be playing
- 21:18them, and in Raleigh, North Carolina will be playing there and the TBL
- 21:23this year they separated off into another league to encompass more Canadian teams. We
- 21:30actually go to Canada for a two game series, so we'll be going up
- 21:33there for a week mid April. No part of Canada We're going to be
- 21:37going to Windsor and London, Canada for our teams, but they've got them
- 21:41all throughout the place Canada. I was going to ask about when you think
- 21:45Canada, people think you know hockey and they think baseball and a certain extending
- 21:48football of course. So basketball is pretty big in Canada, is really really
- 21:52big. I know there's a lot of Canadian players that have played at the
- 21:53NBA. Really big and if you know, the Canadian national team is really
- 21:57really good. Basketball getting really big in Canada. Yeah, indeed it is.
- 22:02Again we're talking with the kitchwayn Casey and also our good friend Stephanie Casey
- 22:06from the West Virginia Grind and training camp begins, as you said, next
- 22:10week and then tip off is when's the first game again? The first one
- 22:11game March March eight much explain and you did this a little bit, but
- 22:15explain the league again to us and what this league is? What level of
- 22:19basketball we're talking about? Folks go out to a grind game and I know
- 22:22you don't want to get into specific players. I don't mean that, but
- 22:26what are they primarily looking at? As far as the players go pro basketball,
- 22:29you're looking at a level of pro basketball as you would be looking at
- 22:33Tripway double a baseball. Okay, same aspect, and you've got some players
- 22:38that have what's the average age of a player in your league. I'll let
- 22:44the GM go with them anywhere from eighteen to mid thirties. This is the
- 22:48West Virginia Grind as a team in the TBL, the Basketball League, and
- 22:53it's a showcase league. The objective of this league is to get these guys
- 22:57their film, great film and great stats so that they are a stepping stone
- 23:02to either go overseas in the G League in the NBA. So the TBL
- 23:07has some players that actually just jumped and went to the NBA. Last year,
- 23:11four of our guys went overseas, so it is really an opportunity for
- 23:15them to build their resume again professional so you're paid for it, but you're
- 23:18also building that resume in the meantime. Half of the objective for this league
- 23:22is to do the community service. While you are here in Charleston playing for
- 23:26the West Virginia Grind in the state of West Virginia, you're invested in the
- 23:30community, doing things for kids, doing things for other people, and really
- 23:34putting some programs together to be impactful. And I want to talk about the
- 23:37buying from the community and with the kids too, because again, if anything
- 23:41like this is going to be successful, whether it's is, whether it's baseball,
- 23:45whatever in a smaller area, what Charleston is, you got to have
- 23:48a buy in from the community and you got to get these kids involved.
- 23:52And I know last year over at the part of our shootout, I was
- 23:56talking to you over there last year and when people saw some of the people
- 23:59with the gear and on, these little kids take a look at that,
- 24:02they're kind of in awee, like yeah, and they want to know all
- 24:04about it. So you got to get this kids involved for sure. For
- 24:07sure, we're able to partner with the after school care programs. Some of
- 24:10my players went last year and they're signing shoes and shirts. So apologize to
- 24:14the parents that came home with in shirt that had my players' names on it,
- 24:17but they were excited about that. Well that's that's part of it,
- 24:19you know. It's part of Again, we're talking with the VOCs for the
- 24:22West Virginia to grind. To Dave Allen Show on five eighty Live is brought
- 24:25to you parted by bright Way Insurance Amaze Agency of Tays Valley. Brightway offers

- 24:32ten minutes with the ninety five percent approval rate and no medical exam. See
- 24:34them for all detail. Start a quote today at Brightwaymays dot com. So
- 24:38where are we at this point on the roster? I know we can't talk
- 24:41about specific players or anything, but where are we in the in the calendar
- 24:45of things as far as the rosters get training camp starts next Friday, and
- 24:48it'll be a it looks like it'll be twenty five people that we'll pick from
- 24:53and we'll go down to somewhere within between ten and twelve. Now, can
- 24:57people still try out or do you just say that invitation only? How does
- 25:00that work? Yes? Yes, they still try out? Okay, Friday
- 25:03starts at four o'clock. Okay. The gym will be TBA for right now.
- 25:07Okay, we'll let that out soon next week. Okay. And you
- 25:11guys do a great job on your on your websites and social media and things
- 25:14of that nature. So if you don't follow them on social media, make
- 25:17sure that you do, because you get and I share as much as I
- 25:19can. I'm on my social media as well. I had a question here
- 25:22about the tickets. Somebody wanted to know how much are tickets. So tickets
- 25:26for the adults are going to be ten dollars again this year, and any
- 25:30student, no matter if you're in kindergarten or through college, they'll be half
- 25:33off. Okay. And I would imagine too that you probably have a lot
- 25:37of mom's, dads, grandparents and coaches that like to bring the kids out
- 25:41as a group, you know, like we used to call it when I
- 25:45was growing up, the bud League teams. I'm not really sure what they
- 25:47call it now, but but do you like to bring those teams out and
- 25:49get people involved at an early age. Absolutely, And we will be giving
- 25:52some tickets out in the community here in the upcoming days. Once we get
- 25:56our guys here in the area, they'll be running around doing that. And
- 26:00last year we had some sponsors that also paid money to give free tickets to
- 26:03kids, so we're looking forward to that more sponsors to do that as well.
- 26:07Yeah, that was gonna be My next thing was to talk about sponsorship,
- 26:10because again I talked about the buying from the community, but you got
- 26:11to have the dollars as well. If somebody's listening to us right now,
- 26:15a business owner or manager of any kind, and they want to get involved
- 26:19with the Grind, tell us about the sponsorship. So we have a couple
- 26:22of different packages. We ran some summer camps last year Coach did with a
- 26:26couple of players, so we were able to do that for some after school
- 26:29kids. And then we did some third base with the Department of Education and
- 26:33worked in the schools during the season last year as well. There's all different
- 26:37types of sponsorships where we can provide tickets to those who can't afford it,
- 26:41uniform sponsorships, halftime sponsorships, We're doing something a little bit different this year.
- 26:45So there's really a lot of opportunity on our socials, on our commercials.
- 26:48At West Virginia State, they have a beautiful scoreboard and on the board
- 26:52you can have a commercial there. We're actually streamed on TBL Live TV,
- 26:56which is broadcasted to over seventy four different country and then of course all throughout
- 27:00the United States and Canada. We could actually put those commercials on there as
- 27:04well, So there's there's really nice opportunity for that advertisement. All right,
- 27:07let's kind of recap here before we let you go give us the important dates.
- 27:11We get training camp, which starts next week. In opening day again
- 27:15is when for all large eighth March eighth is for the home game that is
- 27:18our opening day. We play. Who do we play in that opening game?
- 27:22Lebanon LEAs. I love some of the names. I love something.
- 27:26I mean, that's part of the appeal when it comes to even like with
- 27:29with with some of the baseball teams. That's some of the people. What
- 27:30are some of the nicknames some of the other teams. So Frederick, Maryland
- 27:33is a new team in the league this year and they're called the Flying Cows.
- 27:37The Flying Cows, Coop, did you get that? We got the
- 27:38Flying Cows? Okay, who else we got? We got the Pontiac Pharaohs
- 27:42this year. They'll be uh, they're there in Michigan, so we'll be
- 27:47playing them. We've got the Derby City Distillers. We've got Raleigh Firebirds for
- 27:52sure, and then we have a we play Cocomo. Bob Katz will be
- 27:56playing them again. There's a team in Cincinnati. And then we said the
- 28:00Living On the Warriors. Flying Cows I think wins Flying ca I think flying
- 28:06cout Site four. I want to see there. I want to see their
- 28:08gear. I want to see there. Do you sell gear? Can you
- 28:11buy West Virginia Grind merchandise? We do. We'll have some shirts and some
- 28:15jerseys available at our first game, for certain, and then we're going to
- 28:17start our online store here shortly, so you'll find that on our socials and
- 28:21on our websites. We'll make sure we get that up. All right,
- 28:23hellos at w V Grind. All right, then again, get that kind
- 28:26of talked over you there, give us that website again. Our socials are
- 28:30at w V Grind. Okay, find us on Instagram and on Facebook and
- 28:33you'll have all of our links there. All right. Well, it's going
- 28:36to be an exciting season. I want to have you on a couple of
- 28:37times. Maybe bring some players down to the studio. You know, my

- 31:44listening to talk about the West Virginia grind? You're ready to go play a
- 31:45little basketball? You know, my eye hand coordination isn't that great. I
- 31:48played defensive line when I played call, so yeah, I got you.
- 31:52Now I can I can run, or at least I used to. I
- 31:56can run and dribble. Just don't ask you to do at the same time.
- 31:57Shoot, bubble gum a walk. That's not I can't multitask very well.
- 32:01Let's talk about the session first. How's the session been so far?
- 32:05You know, it's interesting and I keep telling folks this. This is only
- 32:07the second instance in which Republican majorities have been in a lame duck session.
- 32:13Now, a lame duck session is when the governor's term limited and on the
- 32:15way out. So the first time that happened back in twenty sixteen, it
- 32:21was Earl Ray Tomlin leaving office and Republicans helped send him into retirement by overriding
- 32:25a bunch of vetos on really important policy like right to work and the repeal
- 32:29of prevailing wage. Excellent session. This session is a little bit different because
- 32:34you have obviously Jim Justice, who's term limited, leaving office and running for
- 32:38the United States Senate. And it's just a little bit different of an environment
- 32:43because instead of having you know, fifty four or so Republicans in the House,
- 32:45you've got eighty eight and likewise more Republicans in the Senate. So it's
- 32:51been interesting to see them try to navigate this session a little bit quieter of
- 32:55a session than perhaps we're used to, probably because we're in an election.
- 33:00Got a little loud yesterday though. Yeah, yeah, you'll have a certain
- 33:02amount of that on day thirty. But overall, overall, overall, it's
- 33:07been a quiet session. You guys have already announced that you are endorsing Attorney
- 33:12General Patrick Morrissey for governor. First of all, let me ask you,
- 33:15did you have to listen to the debate earlier this week that Hobby did from
- 33:19Blade Springs. Sure your takeaway from that, yes, certainly we were tuned
- 33:22in, and you know, I think listen. Patrick Morrissey's pitch is pretty
- 33:25simple. Do you want to be the most competitive state when it comes to
- 33:29the policies on the books, when it comes to freedom, opportunity, and
- 33:32prosperity, that's his pitch. If you want to be the best, if
- 33:36you want to compete in a meaningful way with the other states and strive for
- 33:39greatness in policy, that's his pitch to the West Virginians, and I think
- 33:44it's a strong pitch. He's also singled himself out as a guy who's got
- 33:47the guts and experience to go after those kind of policies and win, and
- 33:52so I think it's an extremely strong pitch to the people of West Virginia.
- 33:55I mean, I think you would more than likely agree, with all due
- 33:58respect to Steve Williams, the fine mayor of the city of huntingtend that one
- 34:01of those four people that was on the stage, Glade Springs is going to
- 34:06is going to be the next governor, to say to West Virginia. I
- 34:07mean, that's certainly where I am on that, regardless of what happens.
- 34:12But I've noticed that mister Morrissey says a lot. I'm not taking an issue
- 34:15with him, it's just a fact he says a lot. He kind of
- 34:16points to himself as being the only true conservative on stage, or the most
- 34:21conservative. I mean, the other three are pretty conservative as well, would
- 34:23you think, uh, I mean, well, in terms of folks trying
- 34:25to out conservative one another, you know, that's the gamesmanship of a Republican
- 34:30primary. It is, But to some extent, I think when you talk
- 34:32about the impact that some of these individuals have had I mean Patrick Morrissey again
- 34:39Waterseed, the United States rule where we were trying to be overregulated by the
- 34:44EPA, West Virginia v EPA at the United States Supreme Court. The things
- 34:49that he has accomplished as Attorney General have not had just a significant impact here,
- 34:52but all across the country. I mean, those are some rulings that,
- 34:55frankly are some of the biggest strikes against the administrative state in our lifetimes.
- 35:01So I think he's got pretty solid credentials in terms of the transformational change
- 35:07he's made. Jason hoppin from Americans for Prosperities here, the Dave Allen Show

- 35:30slash apprenticeships for more information. All right, Jason, you're here to announce
- 35:32a couple of more endorsements for the upcoming primary election. So I will let
- 35:37you take it from there, sir. Well, we've endorsed a couple of
- 35:39folks for a House of Delegates. And you know, Dave, sometimes you
- 35:44just get candidates who are newcomers to politics, and they're exciting because their resumes
- 35:50are so distinguished and they already have such an outsized role when it comes to
- 35:53serving the people of West Virginia. And so Tristan Levitt and House District fifty
- 35:59three. Tristan comes to this with really kind of unrivaled knowledge when it comes
- 36:04to the processes of protecting federal whistleblowers. He's got a decade of experience investigating
- 36:10waste, fraud, and abuse and corruption at the federal level. And now
- 36:15he's been tapped to serve as the president of Empower Oversight, which is a
- 36:17nonprofit that represents federal whistleblowers and documents and reports on government corruption. Just as
- 36:24stellar candidate, somebody that as an attorney has distinguished himself and I think that
- 36:30he'll make just a fantastic addition to the House of Delegates. The other gentleman,
- 36:35extremely well known in Kanall County. Mark Carter running for House District fifty
- 36:39seven. Mark is a partner at the Dinsborg Law Firm. Really, he's
- 36:45distinguished hisself as one of the most prominent labor lawyers in the United States.
- 36:50I mean he's advised and represented employers all throughout the country collective bargaining, arbitration,
- 36:54federal litigation involving labor unions, and really servingmployers and employment litigation. He's
- 37:02testified before the US House of Representatives the Senate because his expertise have wanted up
- 37:07there. And really he was appointed by both President Trump and President Bush to
- 37:14serve on the Federal Services in Passes Panel, which essentially handles this use between
- 37:20federal employees, the federal government and labor unions. So just a wealth of
- 37:24experience. The guy has commit a contributor to policy throughout his time in West
- 37:29Virginia, and I think that he will be a significant actor when it comes
- 37:32to being in the House of Delegates. Just a leader. Again, we're
- 37:37talking with Jason Hoffman for Americans for Prosperity announcing that they are endorsing Tristan Levitt
- 37:42into Republican primary District fifty three and Mark Carter in District fifty seven. Editors
- 37:45know Tristan Levitt has been on the show a few times in the past.
- 37:49Mark Carter is going to be on the show this coming Thursday, I think
- 37:52it is, so we'll look forward to actually hearing from him. Can we
- 37:54expect more endorsements from your group in the future. Yeah, we're certainly looking
- 37:58all the way across the electoral mass. We just understand that in order to
- 38:01continue to drive transformational policy in the state, we've got to stand up and
- 38:06stand behind policy champions that want to get into the arena and fight and win
- 38:10for policies that we know are proven to help people thrive. And so we're
- 38:15going to continue to add races. We're going to continue to look particularly matchups
- 38:20and primaries throughout the state and also some general races. So I would expect
- 38:23to see more from us. And how exactly does that process work when you
- 38:28choose to endorse. Obviously you have a pulse on who the players are,
- 38:32and even if they're not involved in politics as of yet. You know,
- 38:37you guys kind of have a wide net with a radar out there and you
- 38:40kind of keep it an eye on people that are maybe coming up in the
- 38:43game or whatever. What's the process like when you decide to endorse someone.
- 38:46So it's essentially two factors. Is there a policy champion in the race,
- 38:51and that means somebody that's not just a good vote on issues. That's somebody
- 38:54that's a leader that's out in front, leading on issues, behind the scenes,
- 38:59working with their colleagues to arrive at a principal policy position, really bring
- 39:02those things to fruition. The second piece is can we make an impact?
- 39:07And Dave, we've been growing organization. We've got over forty part time folks
- 39:12that are out there knocking doors every day alongside of our activists, six full
- 39:15time staff. Obviously, our deputy Cresse's been on the show hands a lot
- 39:19of our communications work, Tyler Henry, who's our director of grassroots Operations.
- 39:22Then we have Chase Long up in Morgantown working out of that region, Ambrose
- 39:28Rucker who is up in the Eastern Panhandle, Ethan Louhart who is down here
- 39:31in the Kanaw Valley working from here to cab and beyond. So we've grown
- 39:36organization. We think that we can have an impact in most places, and
- 39:38really when it comes to grassroots we've kind of got the market cornered. There's
- 39:42not a lot of folks that are going door to door to talk about these
- 39:45issues, and we think that is our bread and butter, because that is
- 39:46the best way to connect to constituents and really bring them into the fold on
- 39:51these issues. I know you primarily study the backgrounds of these individuals and what
- 39:57they stand for and things of that nature, But does your organiz ever get
- 40:00into other issues like social issues? How does that work? No, we
- 40:06tend to stick to the economic issues. And here's why there's already a lot
- 40:09of lead on target no pun intended. With some of the social issues out
- 40:14there. There's a lot of organizations that work on those, but when it
- 40:16comes to things like cutting taxes, making sure that every child has access to
- 40:22the education that's right for them through educational freedom, there's not as much work
- 40:27being done, and so we want to apply our comparative advantage to make sure
- 40:30those issues are covered. They're brought to the forefront. And I think,
- 40:34frankly not to toot our own horn, but over the last couple of years
- 40:37in this state, you've seen historic tax cuts, we had the best educational
- 40:42freedom bill in the country. Past back in twenty twenty one, So we're
- 40:45cooking with gas. We're really trying to transform the state in a meaningful way
- 40:50because we want people to move here, be a part of this, and
- 40:53generally speaking, just have West Virginians be able to live their version of the
- 40:57American dream. Our goal simple, freedom plus opportunity equals prosperity. Dave,
- 41:02all right, and again that I was going to ask you for your mission
- 41:05statement, but I think you just gave it right there you did. Where
- 41:07can people learn more about your organization, Americans for PROSPERITYA dot Org all right,
- 41:12real simple. We'll have you back on again soon because I know you're
- 41:15going to roll out some more endorsements between now and the May primary. Jason,

- 46:24well, I think on the show and try to mix it up a little
- 46:28bit. A bunch of mayors from all around the state of West Virginia are
- 46:31going to be in Charleston for a conference, and I've been in contact with
- 46:36my buddy Travis Bosser with the West Virginia Municipal League. On Monday show,
- 46:40we're going to have Mayor Monday on Steroids. We're going to have several mayors
- 46:45from all around the state of West Virginia, some in this area and some
- 46:50not from this area, are going to stop by the studio on Monday and

- 46:55we're going to talk about some of the things we can learn, you know,
- 46:59what's going on in Martinsburg that we could apply here in Charleston or South
- 47:04Charlestown or Saint Albans or whatever the case may be. It's going to be
- 47:07an interesting show, I think. Again, mayors from all around the sate
- 47:08of West Virginia are going to be in studio with me. Thank goodness.

- 47:23It looks like the public hearing on the fate of the postal distribution center at
- 47:28South Ridge is back on. It now's a couple of days ago. I
- 47:31just haven't had a chance to get to it. It is going to be
- 47:34held on Valentine's Day this Wednesday evening six thirty at the Coddoseuma Convention Center,
- 47:38and we'll have more information about the format and things of that nature coming out

- 47:50It will be Valentine's Day at six point thirty at the coddleseem Commissions Convention
- 47:54Center. And again we'll have some more details on that coming up hopefully next
- 47:59week. Texas so West FORRGIN'T needs a lot of infrastructure repair and building.
- 48:02This requires tax money and governmental spending. How do Republicans plan to pay for
- 48:07this as they cut taxes? Are they going to rely on federal government money
- 48:12as they cut taxes and spend to fix an upgrade infrastructure Texas. That being
- 48:20said, how about that awesome cognitive little presser last night by our fearless commander
- 48:24in chief. God help us, question Mark says a texture Texas. I
- 48:30thought Fridays were supposed to be politics free well, yeah, as you know,
- 48:36I'm always I've been doing the show. This may will be four years
- 48:37I've been doing the show, and I'm constantly changing and tweaking it, and
- 48:42i can't leave well enough alone. So I decided to just kind of put
- 48:45Friday Funhouse on a bit of a hiatus because it is the political season and
- 48:50I'm hearing from all of these candidates that want to come on the show,
- 48:52and I'm more than happy to have candidates on the show. Actually, I

- 49:30There are buy ins from the City of Charleston as well. Commission Vincelango
- 49:35said that they have secured the old Macy's building and they will start tearing it
- 49:39down, probably weather permitting, things of that nature. Probably sometime around the
- 49:45first of April. You're going to see that demolition project of the old Macy's
- 49:49building adjacent to the town Center, and that'll take they say, about four
- 49:52to six weeks. I actually talked with Commissioner Selango about it this morning,
- 49:55and we're working on his schedule to try to get him on the show to
- 50:00talk about it one day next week. Our long debate that got heated at
- 50:05times over a school bill in the House. David Beard of the Morgantown Dominion
- 50:09Post rights about it at wv metronews dot com. It's HB forty eight fifty
- 50:14one and it allows a public or private school to hire armed security who are
- 50:21either a former military or former law enforcement. And somehow, somehow that became
- 50:29racial. I don't have time to really get into it. The story's posted
- 50:34on the website wv metronews dot com. I'm not really quite sure how we
- 50:37morphed into a school security bill becoming a racist thing. And I'm not pointing
- 50:44fingers blaming either side. I'm just saying it is. It is what it
- 50:47is to use the most over the most over cliche over cliche statement in the
- 50:53world. Also, the Women's Rights Bill was debated heavily in the House yesterday
- 51:00and it's all posted. Brad done a great job, and other media outlets
- 51:02have as well. You can find that if you want to get into it.
