- 0:23Speaker 1: The World's a Biget Podcasts Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:33Speaker 3: I would just say that I feel like I'm staring
- 0:36Speaker 3: at the same pig that is wearing nicer clothes.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And last year they were actually scoring outside the red zone.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I mean Bill even said it, you.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Know, scoring from anywhere else.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You know, They've got some work to do on offense
- 0:48Speaker 1: for sure, But I will say that point.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I'd love to.
- 0:51Speaker 5: See him play more. I mean, I think that's that's him.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Just get him on the field more, get him more experience.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We'll get more experienced.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we're trying to bring it back positive.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they'll get more. Zekiel Elliott coming out
- 1:00Speaker 4: of the two minute warning, just wanting.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I know it's not church because he messed it up.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I just like Now, if Matthew Slater said that and
- 1:11Speaker 4: said they were saying things to me that you know
- 1:14Speaker 4: you wouldn't say in church, Sure, no, I would say
- 1:16Speaker 4: the same thing. But it doesn't make sense. Matthew doesn't
- 1:18Speaker 4: make sense.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Members of the show spend the majority of last week
- 1:22Speaker 1: being defensive of their takes on the Patriots rather than
- 1:25Speaker 1: talking about the Dolphins. Let's complaining about people calling you
- 1:28Speaker 1: negative on Twitter. More football play thoughts on Hill of
- 1:31Speaker 1: all people calling Patriots fan terrible people? Ironic, don't you think?
- 1:35Speaker 3: Oh so, now we care about what other people saying.
- 1:37Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:41Speaker 6: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 1:45Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:49Speaker 1: at Jillette Stadium, turn the page game, getting ready for
- 1:52Speaker 1: the new Jersey Jets and their formidable defense. I think
- 1:57Speaker 1: it's the real thing. Yea, it's it's Mac Jones says,
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's uh, what the best he's seen on film?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, he's seen two other defenses.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean over.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Wow, maybe maybe maybe maybe some maybe some crossover film.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I'll give him, I'll give him benefit of the data
- 2:15Speaker 3: on that. So maybe he's seen like six defense.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Yes, he likes film and stuff, and.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Maybe they didn't watch the Dallas Maybe.
- 2:20Speaker 1: He's talking about also is all three years?
- 2:22Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously we're having some fun.
- 2:26Speaker 7: The Jets have a Sorry everybody, we're too negative there
- 2:28Speaker 7: for a second, I feel like they're.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Too negative on the Jets defense.
- 2:31Speaker 1: But so what do we think? How are we feeling?
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's the page day, you know, what's the current line?
- 2:40Speaker 4: I think Patriots by two and a half.
- 2:42Speaker 7: Patriots by two and a Hay, I still stick to
- 2:45Speaker 7: the line I started off when we did and filtered
- 2:46Speaker 7: on TV Monday morning. Save our season, Zach Wilson, please
- 2:49Speaker 7: give us, give us some interceptions.
- 2:51Speaker 5: I mean, I think it's uh. I think it's gonna
- 2:52Speaker 5: be a tough game.
- 2:53Speaker 7: I think, you know, I watched a little watching a
- 2:55Speaker 7: little of the Dallas game from them. Couldn't really get
- 2:58Speaker 7: much going in the running game. But I still I'm
- 3:00Speaker 7: worry about that running game. And I think, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 7: if I were the Jets, I would just say, you're
- 3:03Speaker 7: both gonna get twenty carries and we're gonna just do
- 3:06Speaker 7: our best to stay out a third and long.
- 3:08Speaker 5: We're gonna manage the game, you.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Know, try to force the Patriots if if they if
- 3:11Speaker 7: they are able to put some points up, great for them.
- 3:13Speaker 5: But let's just grind this one out.
- 3:16Speaker 7: And try to take all the pressure off of Zach Wilson,
- 3:18Speaker 7: because I you know, I just I feel like if
- 3:20Speaker 7: they can't run the ball and they get into third
- 3:21Speaker 7: and long and they're chasing things, that's when the mistakes
- 3:23Speaker 7: are gonna happen for the Jets, and that's how the
- 3:25Speaker 7: Patriots capitalized. So, you know, I just wanted for the Patriots.
- 3:27Speaker 7: Can they afford to sit around and wait for mistakes
- 3:29Speaker 7: or can they just go out there and and and
- 3:31Speaker 7: win the game themselves without having a said, you.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Know, this is a game where you probably can put
- 3:37Speaker 1: more people in the box and without fear, like you know.
- 3:41Speaker 7: I guess, but I mean you just have Christian consalies.
- 3:43Speaker 7: I don't know what it's gonna look like when Evan
- 3:44Speaker 7: goes out there, but you have to You're gonna get.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you have to, I hope.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So you have to account for Garrett. I mean, you
- 3:51Speaker 1: have to make sure you know where he is.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Miles. Yeah what what.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Wiz Wilson, Yeah, have to account for him on every play.
- 4:02Speaker 1: But but if you're if you're getting pressure on him,
- 4:05Speaker 1: then he's not gonna find the second guy, you know.
- 4:08Speaker 7: Oh no, no, you're exactly sorryless Uh no, I mean
- 4:14Speaker 7: I think that's you know, a big key, and I
- 4:16Speaker 7: mean DeMarcus Covington yesterday, you know, talking about it. They
- 4:19Speaker 7: they they've got to find a way to get to him,
- 4:21Speaker 7: and you know, it's just it's not as much of
- 4:23Speaker 7: a daunting challenges as as it was thinking about the
- 4:25Speaker 7: Eagles and the Dolphins, just as we lead into the
- 4:27Speaker 7: games the theory of their offense and all the challenges
- 4:30Speaker 7: that they present. They have challenges, but it's not the
- 4:33Speaker 7: overwhelming offense that you're like, all right, But even in
- 4:35Speaker 7: that best case scenario, the big.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Head Andy Hart was here, would he be guaranteeing a
- 4:40Speaker 1: Patriot win. I think he would do it.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Was he big on that he would he would guarantee
- 4:46Speaker 4: if if Brady was the court, if you know, back
- 4:49Speaker 4: in the day. Yeah, but not not right now. I
- 4:52Speaker 4: don't think that Andy Hart, for we I would be
- 4:55Speaker 4: on the radio saying I guarantee the Patriots win.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I can't.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I can't see it. I can't see a guarantee I
- 5:01Speaker 4: don't know how you can feel confident.
- 5:04Speaker 1: No, what about the spot. It's not a great one
- 5:08Speaker 1: for the Patriots.
- 5:09Speaker 4: A lot of desperation on both sides.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Well yeah, but there's desperation on both sides and the
- 5:13Speaker 1: other teams at home. But the Patriots can do something
- 5:17Speaker 1: about because they still have a quarterback.
- 5:18Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Okay, well you don't.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You don't think Mac's better than I.
- 5:24Speaker 4: That's not Those two things aren't the same. Yes, I
- 5:26Speaker 4: think Mac is substantially better than Zach.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You think the Patriots offense is better than the Jets
- 5:31Speaker 1: offense at this.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Point, not that I've seen. Oh wow, that's not that
- 5:37Speaker 4: I've seen.
- 5:37Speaker 3: The Jets definitely have better skilled players than the Patriots,
- 5:41Speaker 3: but the Jets offensive line isn't just as much disarray
- 5:44Speaker 3: as the Patriots. And the difference I al would say
- 5:46Speaker 3: with the Jets, this is their group on the offensive line,
- 5:50Speaker 3: and I know that the Patriots had most of their guys.
- 5:52Speaker 3: That is their group, but that was you know, the
- 5:54Speaker 3: two guards. That was their first game without much training camp.
- 5:58Speaker 3: You know, Trent Brown, the starting offensive line of the
- 6:01Speaker 3: Jets rolled out there last week. That's their offensive line
- 6:04Speaker 3: and they got absolutely demolished by the Dallas Cowboys, who
- 6:08Speaker 3: have a great front. Don't get me, but Zach Wilson
- 6:11Speaker 3: was under pressure on over fifty of it. That's crazy.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Their offensive line statistically by those metrics, is has been
- 6:19Speaker 4: the worst in the first two weeks. And I agree
- 6:21Speaker 4: with Evan too, it's it shouldn't be that bad. I
- 6:23Speaker 4: know Dwayne Brown has you know, passed his prime and everything,
- 6:26Speaker 4: but you know, Vera Tuka is a pretty that's two
- 6:30Speaker 4: days in a row. Rah Tuka really really good guard
- 6:35Speaker 4: who hasn't played great. I think Beckton has been a
- 6:38Speaker 4: decent story for them coming back, you know, having lost
- 6:41Speaker 4: some weight, he's sort of been up and down. Still,
- 6:43Speaker 4: they shouldn't be as bad.
- 6:45Speaker 3: First round picks there.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And the one guy that I think what could be
- 6:50Speaker 3: in this week that wasn't in last week was Tipman,
- 6:52Speaker 3: their their mid round pick. He plays center and guard.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Thinking camp they had him a lot at guard at
- 6:57Speaker 3: left guard to try to replace Lake and Tomlinson there.
- 7:02Speaker 3: But I would assume that after how bad it looked
- 7:04Speaker 3: against Dallas, that that they go to uh they.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Make it. Yeah, change, you know with with the Jets,
- 7:13Speaker 4: and you know, when Fred had started just in cases
- 7:15Speaker 4: everybody's wondering Fred is occupied at the moment. But yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 4: I think, you know, there's no there's no comparison between
- 7:23Speaker 4: mac Jones and and Zach Wilson. I mean, like mac
- 7:26Speaker 4: Jones has been far more consistent and productive than Wilson has.
- 7:31Speaker 4: But at the same time, I don't necessarily think that
- 7:34Speaker 4: the offenses have been all that much different. I think
- 7:37Speaker 4: when the Jets want, you know, they obviously do it differently.
- 7:40Speaker 4: If they're going to have any success at all, it's
- 7:42Speaker 4: going to be because they get Breise Hall going and they
- 7:44Speaker 4: play off of that. If I wasn't, if I was Salah,
- 7:47Speaker 4: I would go back and I don't know how many
- 7:49Speaker 4: people remember this, but the first game at the Metal
- 7:52Speaker 4: Lands last year, I would go back to the first
- 7:54Speaker 4: half and I look at what they did in the
- 7:56Speaker 4: first half until that last pass that that Wilson threw
- 7:59Speaker 4: in the two men drill, and I would try to
- 8:01Speaker 4: do a lot of the same things. I thought they
- 8:03Speaker 4: had some some runs, they had some heavy play action,
- 8:06Speaker 4: took shots, you know, plays that if they would get
- 8:09Speaker 4: picked off, they're like, you know, they have forty yards downfield.
- 8:11Speaker 4: So it's not in that I think Wilson had six
- 8:15Speaker 4: for one fifteen or something like that in that game.
- 8:17Speaker 3: He had over three hundred yards passing in that game,
- 8:19Speaker 3: I think in total.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yeah, he just threw. It was the interceptions that killed you.
- 8:23Speaker 4: So I would go back and look at some of
- 8:25Speaker 4: the elements. They had a couple of productive drives early
- 8:28Speaker 4: in that game for a field goal, for a touchdown.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Then I think they threw a long pass that got
- 8:33Speaker 4: them down there another time. I would try to find
- 8:36Speaker 4: some of the things that that Wilson had success with
- 8:38Speaker 4: against the Patriots and stick with that. I think just
- 8:41Speaker 4: one of the unsteady die of briefs Hall.
- 8:43Speaker 7: Yeah, just one of the hard things I thought watching
- 8:44Speaker 7: Dallas was just how dominant Michael Parsons.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Is, Like that's it's kind of like it's like, you take,
- 8:48Speaker 5: how good are they?
- 8:49Speaker 7: Like, I don't know, but they Dallas as an awesome
- 8:52Speaker 7: defensive end who was in the backfield like a second
- 8:54Speaker 7: into the snap. You know, It's it kind of colors
- 8:56Speaker 7: how you look at it all to the Patriots have
- 8:58Speaker 7: that ability. They don't have quite a Parsons, but I
- 9:01Speaker 7: think you know, the point stands, you got to attack
- 9:02Speaker 7: those guys on the offensive line.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Zack Wilson over the last two years has been
- 9:07Speaker 3: the worst rated passer under pressure by a country mile.
- 9:11Speaker 3: He has an eighteen passer rating with pressure you get
- 9:15Speaker 3: thirty nine point six just by spiking the ball into
- 9:17Speaker 3: the ground. So the fact that it's eighteen means that
- 9:19Speaker 3: he's worse than just throwing the ball away on every week.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Know that, I'm assuming the Jets know that. Yeah, if
- 9:24Speaker 1: you're the Jets knowing that the Patriots are going to
- 9:27Speaker 1: try to what do you do? Do you go to,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you know, quick throw mode like the Patriots did last
- 9:32Speaker 1: week with Mac Like, how do you combat that?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely think you have to try to run
- 9:38Speaker 3: the ball, But I would move the pocket, like I
- 9:40Speaker 3: would try to get him on the perimeter with some
- 9:42Speaker 3: bootlegs and stuff like that to get him out of
- 9:44Speaker 3: the pocket and try to help the offensive line, because
- 9:47Speaker 3: that's that's really it's exacerbating an issue for Zach Wilson
- 9:51Speaker 3: that their offensive line can't block anybody either, So it's
- 9:54Speaker 3: it's making it even more a big.
- 9:58Speaker 8: Well.
- 9:58Speaker 3: In the past, the Patriots I've used the spy on
- 10:01Speaker 3: Zach Wilson, not because he's Lamar Jackson or something like
- 10:05Speaker 3: dangerous runner. But they do want to force him to
- 10:08Speaker 3: make a throw right, like you don't want to allow
- 10:10Speaker 3: him to just scramble or to you know, throw while
- 10:14Speaker 3: there's nobody in his face when he's on the move,
- 10:16Speaker 3: because then he can make some plays in that second reaction,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, playground style. I think the throw you referenced
- 10:22Speaker 3: Paul to Garrett Wilson in the first game was a
- 10:24Speaker 3: broken type of play where he rolled out to his
- 10:27Speaker 3: right and hit Wilson on a deep ball down the field.
- 10:30Speaker 3: So they had they want to pit him to the
- 10:32Speaker 3: sideline and force him to make a decision with the ball,
- 10:35Speaker 3: which is when he gets back.
- 10:38Speaker 7: That's when you know you see him like going to
- 10:39Speaker 7: the sideline skin in the field. It was like here
- 10:41Speaker 7: it comes, and I can still see Devin McCarty's like,
- 10:45Speaker 7: I got it.
- 10:46Speaker 3: The third one in the game. This first game last
- 10:49Speaker 3: year was as much of a punt to Devin mccorty
- 10:52Speaker 3: as I think I've ever seen in my life.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It was like, what's he doing?
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, the second game, he threw so many picks in
- 10:59Speaker 3: the first game. The second game, the second that he
- 11:02Speaker 3: sends pressure he threw the ball away.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Yeah, he didn't throw any picks in that I don't think. No,
- 11:05Speaker 4: he didn't throw any picks I made. No, he completed
- 11:07Speaker 4: no passes. Yeah, yeah, because.
- 11:09Speaker 3: They I mean I think he had like eight or
- 11:11Speaker 3: nine throwaways in that game. Just anytime he he felt pressure,
- 11:15Speaker 3: he just ditched it.
- 11:15Speaker 4: So you can look at it two ways. For the Jets.
- 11:18Speaker 4: The first game, as as Evan said, you know they're
- 11:21Speaker 4: in the game, they lose twenty I think twenty two
- 11:23Speaker 4: to seventeen something like that, and he throws for three
- 11:26Speaker 4: hundred yards, but he handed you the game with the interceptions.
- 11:29Speaker 4: The second game, they drilled it into him, can't make
- 11:33Speaker 4: any mistakes, just throw it away, take the sack, will punt,
- 11:38Speaker 4: And they did that and they scored three points. It's
- 11:40Speaker 4: three to three with ten seconds left. Right, So if
- 11:43Speaker 4: you're the Jets, You're like, do I how do I
- 11:47Speaker 4: find the balance of drilling it into him that when
- 11:49Speaker 4: the play is over, you need to be smart and
- 11:51Speaker 4: just throw it away, as opposed to do not try
- 11:53Speaker 4: to make any plays because both of those approaches neither
- 11:56Speaker 4: one of them, you know, work, And I.
- 11:58Speaker 7: Would just be looking for ways to get the ball,
- 12:00Speaker 7: and Garrett Wilson's safe ways to get the ball in
- 12:02Speaker 7: Garrett Wilson's hands, you know, because he's so dynamic after
- 12:04Speaker 7: the run. It's you know, you don't have to take
- 12:06Speaker 7: the shots to him. You can just you know, like
- 12:08Speaker 7: Evan said, maybe move the pocket. Just get him on
- 12:10Speaker 7: an easy pitch and toss coming across the field on
- 12:12Speaker 7: a crosser and you know, let him go to work.
- 12:14Speaker 7: Try to try to just limit how.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Easy throws to like Ty Conklin for them too, you know,
- 12:18Speaker 4: who's not a great tight end by any means, but
- 12:22Speaker 4: you know, just security blanket kind of throws to just
- 12:25Speaker 4: quick things, one read stuff.
- 12:27Speaker 5: If it's not there, eat it.
- 12:28Speaker 3: That's what I would do. I'd bootleg. I'd send the
- 12:31Speaker 3: tight end into the flat little waggle.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I was hauling the passing game.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Not really like a route runner, but obviously an explosive
- 12:40Speaker 3: play guy if you can get him on a screen
- 12:42Speaker 3: or something.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Carter. Carter is one of the third down back.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, It's so interesting how when you look at the
- 12:50Speaker 1: series with the Patriots and the Jets within a season,
- 12:52Speaker 1: how each game is so different. You know, like one
- 12:56Speaker 1: game it happens a lot. One game's low scoring, the
- 12:59Speaker 1: other game's high scoring, or it just they take on
- 13:02Speaker 1: lives of their own within the same season.
- 13:05Speaker 7: I mean just even you know, going back to like
- 13:07Speaker 7: nine and ten and you know those games that were
- 13:09Speaker 7: like really tight at the metal Lands and they have
- 13:11Speaker 7: forty five to three, but then the Jets come back
- 13:12Speaker 7: and win.
- 13:13Speaker 5: I mean they it's divisional football.
- 13:14Speaker 7: I think that's I think that's what I don't want
- 13:16Speaker 7: to say scares me, but I think if you're thinking
- 13:19Speaker 7: legitimately about this having to be a must win game,
- 13:21Speaker 7: that you know, I would say, it's hard to really
- 13:24Speaker 7: like say, oh, these games are always close, because everybody
- 13:27Speaker 7: knows these games aren't always close. But I think with
- 13:30Speaker 7: these two closely matched teams that I don't know how
- 13:32Speaker 7: you're not looking at a close game unless the Patriots
- 13:34Speaker 7: suddenly just yeah, booms and will.
- 13:36Speaker 1: The Rogers out. I think now they're more closely matched.
- 13:39Speaker 7: You know, And I just wonder what the Jets, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 7: mindset is. You know, that's a big question, like for
- 13:44Speaker 7: our friends in the media, what's the mindset We'll get we'll.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Get to Evan later, what's the mind the moon, the mood.
- 13:51Speaker 5: It's a good point because are they ready to go?
- 13:53Speaker 5: Are they ready to fight? The Patriots and break this,
- 13:55Speaker 5: you know, like, is it is? Are they that or
- 13:56Speaker 5: are they like, man, we just went to Dallas. We
- 13:58Speaker 5: got our butts kicked. It's gonna be a long season
- 14:01Speaker 5: that one.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Well, no, so they He hit Garrett Wilson on a
- 14:04Speaker 3: sixty eight yard touchdown against Dallas, and it looked they
- 14:08Speaker 3: it was a drift concept like post with the dig
- 14:11Speaker 3: route that's a Shanahan staple and he hits Garrett Wilson
- 14:14Speaker 3: in stride and Garrett Wilson just pulls away from the
- 14:16Speaker 3: entire defense for a seventy yard touchdown and the whole
- 14:19Speaker 3: sideline is up and everybody's you know, into the game.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And at that point, I think it was like, yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 3: on the next play, Sauce jumped an out round. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 14:32Speaker 4: They changed the game.
- 14:33Speaker 3: They were in it. And I'm you know, watching this
- 14:35Speaker 3: on you know, unfold on the tape and I'm like
- 14:38Speaker 3: the air just like sucked out from the immediately after
- 14:43Speaker 3: Sauce dropped that pick six, and I was just like,
- 14:46Speaker 3: at that point, I think they had to look at
- 14:49Speaker 3: themselves and say, well, Zach made his one play that
- 14:53Speaker 3: we can count on him to make. Our best defensive
- 14:55Speaker 3: player drops a pick six. We're not going to score
- 14:58Speaker 3: again in this game, and we're screwed like that.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I hear a lot you said it too. I hear
- 15:03Speaker 1: a lot of people say, you know, they got blown out.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't think they really got I know, I know
- 15:08Speaker 1: it's a twenty it's a twenty point score, but I
- 15:10Speaker 1: don't think they got blown out on the field.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I don't think I do. The Cowboys went right down
- 15:14Speaker 4: the field the first two times they had the ball. Okay,
- 15:17Speaker 4: that's that was the surprising part. And I was joking
- 15:19Speaker 4: around about this, and it's tongue in cheek. I don't
- 15:22Speaker 4: really necessarily mean this to be like taken fully seriously,
- 15:26Speaker 4: but again, it speaks to the mindset. You were like,
- 15:28Speaker 4: what are the Jets going to be like? You know,
- 15:30Speaker 4: how do they go into the game And you're like,
- 15:33Speaker 4: Sala spent the whole week like vehemently defending it. Zach Wilton,
- 15:38Speaker 4: you know, just don't read into this. Anybody that we
- 15:41Speaker 4: sign or bring in from here on in is to
- 15:43Speaker 4: back up Zack Wilson. Zach Wilson's our guy. We're behind
- 15:46Speaker 4: Zach Wilson. And I'm thinking to myself, if I'm a
- 15:49Speaker 4: defensive player. I'm like, I get why we had to
- 15:53Speaker 4: keep them as the backup, because you know, the money
- 15:56Speaker 4: you invested and all that, But now that he has
- 15:59Speaker 4: to play and we can't do this for seventeen more games,
- 16:03Speaker 4: and they just kind of like went out late an
- 16:05Speaker 4: egg because I don't want that. Like, from the Jets perspective,
- 16:09Speaker 4: it's probably better that they lost the way they lost
- 16:12Speaker 4: than it would have been if they had lost thirteen
- 16:14Speaker 4: to ten, you know, just because he.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Can't that's partmplifying the fact that we can't.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Because we can't score, and because they didn't lose cause
- 16:21Speaker 4: of the offense. The other day, they lost because the
- 16:22Speaker 4: defense had a rare think bomb. And I'm telling you,
- 16:25Speaker 4: the first drive was as easy as it could be
- 16:27Speaker 4: for Dallas. They went right down the field like nothing
- 16:31Speaker 4: and made it seven nothing. And I said, this game
- 16:32Speaker 4: is it was a two thousand and four Patriots game.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Fred I gave the nod yeah, because it was so
- 16:38Speaker 4: striking to see the Jets defense give up a first,
- 16:41Speaker 4: you know, first possession touchdown like that. The game was
- 16:44Speaker 4: really aside from the drop pick, which I think could
- 16:46Speaker 4: have changed the complexion, it was really never competitive.
- 16:49Speaker 7: It's why I think a fast start is I mean,
- 16:50Speaker 7: of course that's a buzzword this week, but I think
- 16:53Speaker 7: you can break their will. You know, like, if things
- 16:55Speaker 7: don't go well for the Jets early in the game,
- 16:56Speaker 7: how much can you expect them to really stick around
- 16:58Speaker 7: and battle for sixty minutes? It's and you know, if
- 17:01Speaker 7: what happens the first couple of weeks happens, and they
- 17:03Speaker 7: get a good start and they're up on a lead
- 17:04Speaker 7: and they're feeling good about themselves, then you could see
- 17:07Speaker 7: it kind of snowballing.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Either directly, they get the start that they got last
- 17:10Speaker 4: year in the game at the Metal Lands, I think
- 17:11Speaker 4: it's they're going to be in good shape the Jets. Yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 4: that's why I don't know how you can guarantee you
- 17:16Speaker 4: winning this game.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, well, you know, we've got Trent Brown back, hopefully.
- 17:20Speaker 7: I don't know he's I mean not custing off to
- 17:23Speaker 7: sign it on the Dodge line.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I guess I'll let you know in an hour. Yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 3: if he's If he's.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Back, i'll bet you hopefully him hopefully.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I bet he is too. I bet Jonathan Jones is back.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Probably someone tell me that Jonathan Jones was pretty close
- 17:35Speaker 4: last week and we had it on the side of caution.
- 17:37Speaker 5: So that's good, that's good news.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's it's again another intriguing battle because we're
- 17:44Speaker 1: not sure about who we have and we're not sure
- 17:47Speaker 1: about what where they're at at this point. So I mean,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you name the scenario it could happen. Other than I
- 17:53Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be a high scoring game,
- 17:57Speaker 1: thirty six.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I can't believe it's that high.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, I don't.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I'm not a betting man, but if I was, i'd be.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Well, defensive scores that factor into that.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I this game, if it goes over thirty six, I'd
- 18:08Speaker 3: be shocked.
- 18:09Speaker 1: How many shocked? How many points both teams total will
- 18:13Speaker 1: be scored via defense or special team, not offensive points,
- 18:18Speaker 1: not offense points.
- 18:20Speaker 4: I don't maybe directly I'll say zero. But if you're saying,
- 18:25Speaker 4: like there's a pick and it sets up a four,
- 18:28Speaker 4: a pick three, no, I'll count those. Okay, count those,
- 18:31Speaker 4: So I'll say I'll say six three each side.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna say twelve.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Wow. The Jets do play a lot of zone and
- 18:37Speaker 3: the zone like if you if you get a tip
- 18:39Speaker 3: pass or like what we saw you know, the pick
- 18:42Speaker 3: six in the Eagles game, Like that's that's how it.
- 18:46Speaker 9: Is.
- 18:46Speaker 4: They don't really create a lot of turnovers and points,
- 18:50Speaker 4: you know, the opener, notwithstanding when Josh Allen just kept
- 18:53Speaker 4: throwing it to a white Head.
- 18:54Speaker 5: He's not on your team.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Well, that's what he is, you know, That's what he is.
- 18:57Speaker 4: That's what he is.
- 18:58Speaker 3: This is a last week, he showed you what he had,
- 19:00Speaker 3: tough defense to go up against. For an offense that's
- 19:04Speaker 3: that's searching for, like consistency and explosive plays and like
- 19:07Speaker 3: all the things that the Patriots are struggling with offensively
- 19:11Speaker 3: right now. This is this is not like the get right.
- 19:13Speaker 4: And I think to some of those games last year
- 19:16Speaker 4: where it started with that one and then it was
- 19:19Speaker 4: shortly thereafter the Colts game, and it was the same
- 19:22Speaker 4: kind of like physical, tough defensive tackles. Yeah, you know
- 19:26Speaker 4: DeForest Buckner, Quinn Williams, those kinds, and they really like
- 19:30Speaker 4: they just controlled we get we got some breaking now. No,
- 19:33Speaker 4: I was just.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Gonna I mean, I don't want to interrupt your train
- 19:35Speaker 5: of thought.
- 19:35Speaker 4: I just I think we I generally don't have one.
- 19:37Speaker 5: I think we might have referenced this yesterday.
- 19:39Speaker 7: But I just thought this kind of in the Billy
- 19:40Speaker 7: O quote from it today about the running game, which
- 19:43Speaker 7: I just I thought this was interesting. We have to
- 19:45Speaker 7: improve the running game, there's no doubt about that. I
- 19:47Speaker 7: think that starts with us as a coaching staff. We
- 19:50Speaker 7: have to do a better job what we believe we're
- 19:52Speaker 7: going to see and then what we actually see on
- 19:54Speaker 7: game day.
- 19:55Speaker 4: That's because they'd heard Evan yesterday during the show.
- 19:57Speaker 5: I thought that was really interesting.
- 20:00Speaker 3: So I thought Fangio's system, like I don't want to
- 20:04Speaker 3: get too much into the minutia, but like Fangio's system
- 20:06Speaker 3: usually plays gap in a half technique, which means that
- 20:08Speaker 3: you're gonna control your gap, but then when the running
- 20:11Speaker 3: back commits to the whichever gap that he's gonna run into,
- 20:14Speaker 3: everybody then flows back into the ball, right, And that's
- 20:18Speaker 3: like THEIRS usual strategy. In this game against the Patriots,
- 20:22Speaker 3: they did a lot of slanting up front, and they
- 20:24Speaker 3: were just kind of knifing into gaps and getting up
- 20:26Speaker 3: the field and more one gaping than they usually do,
- 20:30Speaker 3: I would say, and I do think that that took
- 20:33Speaker 3: the Patriots by surprise, but they did a decent job.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I thought in the second half they started, they came out,
- 20:38Speaker 3: they ran a couple tosses. You know, if you're gonna
- 20:40Speaker 3: slant inside, then we're just gonna run it outside, right
- 20:43Speaker 3: like that goes without saying. So I did think that
- 20:46Speaker 3: that took the Patriots a little bit by surprise, because
- 20:48Speaker 3: that's not Fangio's typical front mechanics to be aggressive like
- 20:52Speaker 3: that and slanted.
- 20:53Speaker 7: Why would you why do you think the shift why
- 20:54Speaker 7: would they shift to more slanting like that?
- 20:57Speaker 3: My guess is they are anticipating a lot of duo
- 20:59Speaker 3: and inside zone from the Patriots, and they knew they
- 21:01Speaker 3: were going to try to run it between the guards.
- 21:03Speaker 1: That said, when they did go wide early, I think
- 21:05Speaker 1: the Patriots did a pretty good job stretching that out.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Oh no, he's talking about the Patriots running Oh yeah, okay, sorry,
- 21:13Speaker 4: because I would agree with you. I think the Patriots
- 21:15Speaker 4: defense early in the game did a good job stretching wide,
- 21:18Speaker 4: running plays out.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I agree with you. Yeah, I'm sorry, Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 4: But I think to Evan's point, you know, and like
- 21:25Speaker 4: I don't. You said I don't want to get in
- 21:27Speaker 4: the weeds too much, and certainly I don't, but I
- 21:30Speaker 4: would say just anecdotally. You watch the start of these
- 21:33Speaker 4: two games, and the other team seemed to have a
- 21:37Speaker 4: better idea of what the other was going to do
- 21:40Speaker 4: than you did. And that's like to me that that
- 21:43Speaker 4: throws me off. I always expect even when the Patriots
- 21:46Speaker 4: don't have the better team, and I'm not saying I
- 21:49Speaker 4: expect a great start, but I expect to see some
- 21:52Speaker 4: some things.
- 21:53Speaker 1: It's not because we're being out coached.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Right, I expect to see something some things defensively, like
- 21:58Speaker 4: I'll twist this, this was meant to that or the
- 22:00Speaker 4: other way around, you know. And I do think that
- 22:03Speaker 4: there have been some elements offensively in those first drives
- 22:05Speaker 4: of both games. Well, it was like the second drive
- 22:08Speaker 4: of the Miami game, I thought was the one that
- 22:09Speaker 4: was the one that ended the to Mario Douglas fumble,
- 22:11Speaker 4: right second drive. I mean, I thought there was some
- 22:13Speaker 4: good mixing and matching in that drive. Same thing with
- 22:16Speaker 4: the first one against Philadelphia. But I think for the
- 22:19Speaker 4: most part, the other team seemed to have an understanding
- 22:22Speaker 4: of what to expect. And I thought McDaniel's quote about
- 22:25Speaker 4: that with the running game, you know, we saw how
- 22:27Speaker 4: they were playing us. That was a little bit different
- 22:29Speaker 4: than most teams do. And we sort of said, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 4: we have to handle that. I mean, we can't let
- 22:34Speaker 4: you can't let them get away with playing up front
- 22:36Speaker 4: like that. I think was the way he put it
- 22:39Speaker 4: to his team. And they didn't.
- 22:40Speaker 7: Yeah, no, they adjusted, and you know, the Patriots didn't
- 22:42Speaker 7: really adjust with their running game.
- 22:44Speaker 5: They're running game never really got going.
- 22:46Speaker 3: You know, I thought that the Dolphins really just took
- 22:51Speaker 3: it to the Patriots game plan, like on both sides
- 22:53Speaker 3: of the football, And I thought that was sort of
- 22:56Speaker 3: an unsung, untold story of that game because of you know,
- 23:00Speaker 3: we talk so much about the personnel and the players
- 23:02Speaker 3: and you know where the shortcomings are there. But defensively,
- 23:05Speaker 3: the Patriots came out in that three day safety look
- 23:08Speaker 3: basically to play like prevent against Tyreek Kill and Jaylen
- 23:11Speaker 3: Waddle and McDaniel just said, fine, like we'll just check
- 23:14Speaker 3: the ball down underneath, we'll run the ball to the edges.
- 23:17Speaker 3: You guys don't have numbers out there, and we're gonna
- 23:19Speaker 3: just go right down the field on the opening drive
- 23:21Speaker 3: and the Patriots had to pivot. And then offensively, I
- 23:24Speaker 3: mean O'Brien came out and said it that quote that
- 23:26Speaker 3: Mike just read and said they did stuff defensively that
- 23:28Speaker 3: we weren't expecting and we were kind of caught off
- 23:31Speaker 3: guard by it. And I really thought that the opening
- 23:34Speaker 3: drive against Miami, they come out in that thirteen personnel,
- 23:37Speaker 3: three tight ends, yea, and then they run and they
- 23:39Speaker 3: run empty out of it. And like in theory, I
- 23:41Speaker 3: guess you're trying to get run personnel on the field
- 23:44Speaker 3: for the Dolphins and then spread them out and throw it.
- 23:46Speaker 3: So I understand the theory. But when your one receiver
- 23:49Speaker 3: is Devonte Parker and then you have Henry Kasiki and
- 23:52Speaker 3: Pharaoh Brown, like, that's not winning too many relay races, right,
- 23:56Speaker 3: Like that's not a very like dynamic or fast group.
- 23:59Speaker 3: So I as much as I get sort of the
- 24:01Speaker 3: chest match of what they were going for, I just
- 24:04Speaker 3: it's not a very dynamic personnel group.
- 24:06Speaker 5: And at all I think I said it during the game.
- 24:07Speaker 7: I'm like, I think they played six or seven snaps
- 24:10Speaker 7: in that, and I'm just saying, what's the point, Like,
- 24:12Speaker 7: what's the point of coming out in three tight ends
- 24:14Speaker 7: and spreading it out and then you kind of are
- 24:17Speaker 7: done with that? Like I just don't get why not
- 24:19Speaker 7: just go into what you're good at and do what
- 24:21Speaker 7: you're good at instead of being like, all right, we're
- 24:23Speaker 7: gonna run five snaps in thirteen personnel for whatever.
- 24:27Speaker 4: It's one thing if you feel like you have match
- 24:30Speaker 4: something setting it up, like the way you guys just
- 24:34Speaker 4: put it. I agree. It's one thing if you have
- 24:36Speaker 4: Gronk and Hernandez and you and you, you know, put
- 24:38Speaker 4: a third tight out. You know what they missing with
- 24:40Speaker 4: Scott Chandler. You know, if you could just put like,
- 24:43Speaker 4: oh mano nui, you know, matchup winners, Like right, I'm
- 24:46Speaker 4: gonna do this because the other team can't match up
- 24:49Speaker 4: with me. And like even if that caught someone, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 4: by surprise to what end an eight yard completion.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Right, you're not gonna it's not like no, no, they
- 24:58Speaker 5: used to do it. They're gonna gash us with Pharaoh Brown.
- 25:00Speaker 3: They used to do twenty two personnel. So they put
- 25:03Speaker 3: the full back James Devlin out there with the two
- 25:05Speaker 3: tight ends and a running back, and every team would
- 25:07Speaker 3: match them in base and then they would spread them
- 25:09Speaker 3: out and all of a sudden you'd have Gronk on
- 25:12Speaker 3: a linebacker up the seam. And that's just a huge mismatch,
- 25:15Speaker 3: but unfortunately, like the mismatches don't exist on that level anymore.
- 25:20Speaker 3: And so like you put you know, Henry up the
- 25:22Speaker 3: scene against Jerome Baker, that's a little bit more equal
- 25:26Speaker 3: as it was with Gronk, and so those types of
- 25:29Speaker 3: little things that they used to do like that there
- 25:31Speaker 3: they put Devlin out wide and they'd get the coverage
- 25:34Speaker 3: indicator of are are they in man? Are they in zone?
- 25:36Speaker 3: And then they would put the good receivers in the
- 25:38Speaker 3: inside part of the formation, and then they'd get those
- 25:41Speaker 3: guys on linebackers in safeties like that was that used
- 25:44Speaker 3: to be how they would would run those matchups and
- 25:47Speaker 3: exploit those matchups. But I don't know if they have
- 25:49Speaker 3: the personnel to do that anymore. And that's sort of
- 25:51Speaker 3: my whole thing with my game plan I'm running, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 3: for the game preview is just like Mike said, you
- 25:57Speaker 3: got to get back to like what's our identity, like
- 25:59Speaker 3: what are good at offensively and not get so caught
- 26:02Speaker 3: up in like trying to pull a fast one on
- 26:04Speaker 3: Vic Fangio, Like I just didn't.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Like surprise Pharaoh Brown.
- 26:10Speaker 4: And I know and I know how game take it
- 26:12Speaker 4: that far. I know how game plan oriented. They they've
- 26:15Speaker 4: been you know, throw aut Belichick and I one thousand
- 26:18Speaker 4: percent I'm on board with that. I think the teams
- 26:20Speaker 4: that quote unquote do what they do, you need to
- 26:24Speaker 4: be exceptionally good at that to be able to do
- 26:26Speaker 4: that against everybody. So I like the fact that they're
- 26:29Speaker 4: game plan oriented. But I do think that's another element
- 26:32Speaker 4: here of maybe him Bill still sort of thinking he
- 26:36Speaker 4: has a different set of personnel. It's one thing to
- 26:39Speaker 4: say we're going to do things differently all the time,
- 26:42Speaker 4: but then you have to recognize, Okay, this might work.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Let's use this this personnel group that you're talking about
- 26:48Speaker 4: with the three tight ends. This might be a thing
- 26:51Speaker 4: that really would work against what we're going to see
- 26:52Speaker 4: from Vic Fangio. But at the same time, you have
- 26:55Speaker 4: to recognize, I don't have the horses to really make
- 26:57Speaker 4: it hurt them, So to what are you doing it?
- 27:00Speaker 4: Like if you're not going to get off you know,
- 27:03Speaker 4: you know a chunk player or two that's going to
- 27:04Speaker 4: catch everybody by surprise, right, and why bought?
- 27:07Speaker 5: And if you really believe it, are you only gonna
- 27:08Speaker 5: run it for seven plays? Or did they?
- 27:10Speaker 4: Did they just so quickly to it.
- 27:11Speaker 3: They got out of it because they were nothing was
- 27:13Speaker 3: happy right like they like to Paul's point there.
- 27:16Speaker 4: They got to run, yea, they gotta run stuff in
- 27:18Speaker 4: a sack or something like that.
- 27:19Speaker 3: So the very first play of the game was like
- 27:21Speaker 3: a four yard completion to Mikey Sicky on a little
- 27:24Speaker 3: you know, sit route over the middle. And it's like, okay,
- 27:26Speaker 3: like cool, like you know, like if you're Vic Fangio
- 27:28Speaker 3: or you're just like do you want to do that
- 27:30Speaker 3: all game? Then then be my guest. You know, I
- 27:32Speaker 3: just look at like what are what are they good at?
- 27:34Speaker 3: What is their personnel made for? And I think I
- 27:37Speaker 3: mentioned this yesterday, but like under center, I just feel
- 27:41Speaker 3: like this team is starving to get the quarterback under center,
- 27:44Speaker 3: Like get the quarterback under center, get Remandre ahead of
- 27:48Speaker 3: steam when he comes up to the line of scrimmage,
- 27:50Speaker 3: and then incorporate the play action stuff off of that
- 27:53Speaker 3: from under center. Like that used to just be what
- 27:56Speaker 3: they could hang their hat on in twenty one with McDaniels,
- 27:59Speaker 3: Like when all else fail and they couldn't get the
- 28:01Speaker 3: passing game going, they couldn't get anything going, they would
- 28:04Speaker 3: just put Mac back under center with the full back
- 28:06Speaker 3: and Remondree behind them, where Damien harr is behind them,
- 28:09Speaker 3: and they would just run the ball down your throat,
- 28:11Speaker 3: and they just they don't want to do that for
- 28:14Speaker 3: some reason.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Well, you said the team's starving, Evan Lazar is starving
- 28:18Speaker 1: for them to get under center.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I don't know that the team, well, but that's what
- 28:21Speaker 3: they used to do in twenty one, and that's what
- 28:23Speaker 3: they used to do for twenty years, like and then
- 28:24Speaker 3: they've just you know, I love all of the spread
- 28:27Speaker 3: elements that Billy Oh brings to the table. I think
- 28:29Speaker 3: they're all sound and like good scheme, but in general,
- 28:33Speaker 3: it's it's not working. You know, it's not consistently working.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I should say, yeah, it's just again I hate to
- 28:40Speaker 1: beat a dead horse, but it's the line. Nothing's gonna
- 28:43Speaker 1: work if the line stinks.
- 28:45Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, in the personnel too. I mean, I
- 28:47Speaker 7: just think overall, it's uh, you know, I think the
- 28:49Speaker 7: question that we were all kind of lurking around was
- 28:51Speaker 7: how much difference can an offensive coordinator change make? And
- 28:55Speaker 7: certainly going from somebody who'd never done it before to
- 28:58Speaker 7: a seasoned guy who's been in college and you know,
- 29:00Speaker 7: is installing all kinds of RPOs and modern offensive features,
- 29:03Speaker 7: but ultimately the end of the day, through two games,
- 29:06Speaker 7: it hasn't really made that much of a difference because
- 29:08Speaker 7: the players I'm holding out hope for that, I am no,
- 29:11Speaker 7: and I think a lot of it's to the line.
- 29:13Speaker 7: That's where you gotta start. Let's get Trent Brack and
- 29:15Speaker 7: start there. You know, like you just can't say what
- 29:17Speaker 7: we suck it's over.
- 29:18Speaker 3: But it's like, you know, the personnel is the personnel,
- 29:20Speaker 3: right like you know, and I get they're going to
- 29:22Speaker 3: get some pieces back in. The line is going to
- 29:23Speaker 3: get more continuity and all that kind of stuff. But
- 29:26Speaker 3: you know, we can all sit here and be, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 3: scream and yell about how they didn't do enough in
- 29:32Speaker 3: the off season to make the offense better, but it's
- 29:34Speaker 3: not fixing it. That's not changing. Like this is who
- 29:37Speaker 3: they got. So now you got to find out what
- 29:39Speaker 3: you're good at and just spam that as much as
- 29:42Speaker 3: you can.
- 29:42Speaker 1: When when there is no thread of the run, I mean,
- 29:46Speaker 1: that alone puts you on your heels as an offense.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And then you combine that with the line not being
- 29:51Speaker 1: settled right now, it's a it's a bad combination for
- 29:55Speaker 1: offensive production. Yeah, you know, it really is.
- 29:58Speaker 3: It's not a stable way to live to have Mac
- 30:00Speaker 3: Jones lead the league in pass attempts, right, that's you
- 30:03Speaker 3: know last year we talked about he led the league
- 30:05Speaker 3: in the first month of the season in deep pass attempts,
- 30:07Speaker 3: and we were all like, that's not really his game. Like,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I don't want Mac chucking the ball forty yards down
- 30:11Speaker 3: the field ten times a week this week the year
- 30:14Speaker 3: he leads the league in pass attempts ninety six of
- 30:17Speaker 3: them through through two weeks. That's not how this team
- 30:20Speaker 3: is going to win football games, is with Mac Jones
- 30:23Speaker 3: dropping back fifty times a game?
- 30:24Speaker 1: Right? All right? Eight five to five Pass five hundred
- 30:27Speaker 1: is the ACE ticket hout line web radio at Patriots
- 30:29Speaker 1: dot com is the email address we mentioned Troy uh
- 30:33Speaker 1: Trent Brown getting a two million dollar bonus incentive base bonus.
- 30:38Speaker 5: It might possibly achieve it.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I haven't seen the incentives. Have you guys seen those? No?
- 30:43Speaker 4: My guess is they're going to be tied to playing time.
- 30:46Speaker 1: And then Matt Corral.
- 30:47Speaker 3: What's his back on the practice He's not back.
- 30:49Speaker 4: He's not back on the practice squad, right, No, No,
- 30:52Speaker 4: he's he's out.
- 30:53Speaker 5: I thought they just he signed him to the practice squader.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Before the show. What do you think is going on?
- 30:58Speaker 1: Everybody?
- 30:58Speaker 10: Just matter?
- 30:59Speaker 5: We reported that last night.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I saw that I already that he was he had
- 31:02Speaker 4: agreed to return to the practice squad. This morning they
- 31:04Speaker 4: all said he's not coming back to the press. Oh okay,
- 31:07Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 31:07Speaker 7: I don't know why. I don't know what happens when
- 31:09Speaker 7: you don't look at Twitter for a couple hours. I
- 31:10Speaker 7: guess I don't have I don't have the deats.
- 31:12Speaker 3: I just I hope that his mental health is is okay.
- 31:15Speaker 3: I know he's he's struggled with some of that stuff.
- 31:18Speaker 7: Yeah, well, it sounds like they still wanted to bring
- 31:20Speaker 7: him back, right, So I don't know.
- 31:22Speaker 5: I guess that's maybe in his court.
- 31:24Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the phones, shall we? On
- 31:28Speaker 1: this Wednesday? Matthew is in New Mexico. What's up, Matthew?
- 31:34Speaker 9: The other guys they Fred, Mike, and Paul. So I
- 31:42Speaker 9: love the point you guys made yesterday yesterday about Ernie
- 31:46Speaker 9: and I've been feeling this about a while, and like
- 31:49Speaker 9: we've seen like the challenges, like there's a meme of
- 31:52Speaker 9: Belichick throwing the phone, and my question for you guys
- 31:56Speaker 9: is about like month or like two months ago, nott
- 32:02Speaker 9: Light was on all Tom Currn's show, and.
- 32:06Speaker 11: He was pretty much saying, not in these words, but
- 32:09Speaker 11: like not being able to process as much, and like
- 32:13Speaker 11: the new nfl PA roles is like kind of put
- 32:17Speaker 11: us as at a didn't put us at a disadvantage.
- 32:21Speaker 11: And I just wanted to see what you guys point
- 32:22Speaker 11: on that is because we would always see like we
- 32:25Speaker 11: would see those videos of the hills, you know, it's
- 32:28Speaker 11: Bill and then and we and now we're seeing like
- 32:30Speaker 11: all these boneheaded and mistakes and just like that. And
- 32:35Speaker 11: another point that Evan made too was that we're still
- 32:38Speaker 11: playing like or we're still adding players like uh, like
- 32:42Speaker 11: we still have Tom, and it seems like even though
- 32:46Speaker 11: we can't tactice as much and we can't get like
- 32:49Speaker 11: the camp community like we have, Bill still hasn't turned
- 32:54Speaker 11: like the added explosive players they have like more talent,
- 32:57Speaker 11: if that makes sense. So I just want to get
- 33:00Speaker 11: your guy who's point on that. And I appreciate you
- 33:02Speaker 11: listening to you guys.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Okay, thanks Matthew.
- 33:05Speaker 3: I mean everybody practices the same amount. Yeah, so like
- 33:09Speaker 3: you can't to me, you can't sit there and say like, oh,
- 33:13Speaker 3: they're making all these mistakes that they were making before
- 33:15Speaker 3: because they're practicing less when other teams don't make those
- 33:18Speaker 3: mistakes and they practice the same amount.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Paul's guy made it, had a rant
- 33:22Speaker 1: yesterday falk about how they don't do anything. I don't
- 33:25Speaker 1: do anything in the summer.
- 33:27Speaker 4: They don't.
- 33:27Speaker 1: They do the same thing as every team. That's the way.
- 33:30Speaker 4: But his, yeah, his point on that, and I don't
- 33:32Speaker 4: necessarily agree with him. I'm more with you guys on
- 33:35Speaker 4: this because I just think it's the new it's the
- 33:38Speaker 4: new way in the league. But I think that they
- 33:43Speaker 4: don't do as much hitting as they once did when
- 33:46Speaker 4: they're allowed to hit. Like, I'm not talking about the
- 33:49Speaker 4: fewer practices or the less time on the field and
- 33:52Speaker 4: OTAs and all that. I'm talking about. I don't see
- 33:56Speaker 4: as many one on ones as we once did in
- 33:59Speaker 4: PC this now. I don't have the numbers. I'm not
- 34:02Speaker 4: a practice stats guy, so I don't have the numbers
- 34:05Speaker 4: in front of me, But anecdotally, I can tell you
- 34:08Speaker 4: ten years ago they used to do more one on
- 34:10Speaker 4: one work corners against wide receivers, running backs, linebackers, against
- 34:14Speaker 4: you know, against one another in the passing game, obviously
- 34:17Speaker 4: offensive and defensive linemen in pass rush drills. They still
- 34:20Speaker 4: do them, but I don't see them as much as
- 34:22Speaker 4: I used to. And you that's got nothing to do
- 34:25Speaker 4: with rules. Now. Maybe some teams, some other teams don't
- 34:28Speaker 4: do that as much anymore either. Maybe it's a sports
- 34:30Speaker 4: science thing, a nutrition thing, all part of you know,
- 34:34Speaker 4: the new wave with all the analytics they have now
- 34:37Speaker 4: that it's more beneficial to avoid that. I don't know,
- 34:40Speaker 4: doesn't seem like injuries are on the on the decline.
- 34:43Speaker 1: When you say one on one, you don't mean like,
- 34:45Speaker 1: you know, pass receiver receiver going off, you know, one
- 34:49Speaker 1: on one against the corner back.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I do in shorts. No, No, I don't mean shorts.
- 34:53Speaker 4: I mean in past, yeah, because they do a lot
- 34:56Speaker 4: of that, yeah, but I mean in paths, I mean hitting.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 7: And yet you get like these little pockets of tackling,
- 35:01Speaker 7: like live tackling drills that you might not have seen.
- 35:03Speaker 3: I separate the title what what like whatever it's whatever
- 35:08Speaker 3: it's been.
- 35:08Speaker 7: I mean, it hasn't really been effective for a good
- 35:10Speaker 7: start the last three four years.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Well, and that's that's like to Fred's point my show
- 35:15Speaker 4: with Michael, Like that's his point is we're going like
- 35:19Speaker 4: two and four one in three, we're going two.
- 35:22Speaker 10: Now.
- 35:22Speaker 4: It's like this is not a new trend. This is
- 35:26Speaker 4: a bad start since every year since nineteen eight nineteen
- 35:30Speaker 4: and they haven't had a good start to the season since.
- 35:32Speaker 3: I just I think that that's more talent relate, right,
- 35:35Speaker 3: I do too, Like the bottom line is is that
- 35:38Speaker 3: the head coach has not done enough to make the
- 35:39Speaker 3: offense better, like I. And you can say however you
- 35:43Speaker 3: want to say it, like in terms of money or
- 35:45Speaker 3: in terms of draft capital, or missing on guys in
- 35:49Speaker 3: the draft in twenty two that are now coming up
- 35:51Speaker 3: to bite you, like Taekwon and you know Pierre Strong,
- 35:55Speaker 3: like your Mike was talking about the third down running back.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Guess that was supposed to be Pierre Strong. That was
- 36:00Speaker 3: the the message coming out after they drafted Pierre Strong
- 36:04Speaker 3: was that they're going to put this guy on the
- 36:06Speaker 3: James White developmental track and he's getting year two, he
- 36:10Speaker 3: will be the third down back for this team. And
- 36:12Speaker 3: it didn't manifest itself. And those are those are the
- 36:15Speaker 3: things that have really come back to bite them. And
- 36:17Speaker 3: unlike with other teams. Like other teams they miss on
- 36:21Speaker 3: a second round receiver like Taekwon Thornton, and they draft
- 36:24Speaker 3: another one the next year, Like they don't let that
- 36:26Speaker 3: just like prohibit them from from, you know, addressing the position.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Like the Eagles they drafted Jalen Rager and he was
- 36:33Speaker 3: a total bust. The next year they came back and
- 36:35Speaker 3: they traded for a J. Brown, Like they didn't just
- 36:38Speaker 3: say settle, Like they drafted DeVante Smith and they traded
- 36:41Speaker 3: for they.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Also drafted another first time receiver. Okay, we didn't get
- 36:44Speaker 4: it right, we'll do it, do it again.
- 36:45Speaker 1: And so the pages used to do with the tight
- 36:47Speaker 1: end position.
- 36:48Speaker 7: Right, and now it's in the tackle position and the
- 36:50Speaker 7: third down. I mean, it's just it's been whack a
- 36:52Speaker 7: mole with problems.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Too.
- 36:57Speaker 4: And I know him probably being a little reactionary with Zeke.
- 37:00Speaker 4: I told you, I haven't really seen much and people
- 37:03Speaker 4: sort of anything, People sort of pushed back a little bit,
- 37:06Speaker 4: and I just don't see any explosiveness there. I even
- 37:10Speaker 4: saw a lapse in pass blocking, which is supposed to
- 37:12Speaker 4: be his forte. I didn't think he picked up the
- 37:14Speaker 4: blitz very well against Miami, like going out and investing
- 37:20Speaker 4: in that veteran back to me, like, I watched Cleveland
- 37:24Speaker 4: Monday Night and they're all everything. Back goes down and
- 37:27Speaker 4: something named Jerome Ford comes in and runs for one
- 37:29Speaker 4: hundred yards. He's like a fifth round draft pick. He's
- 37:32Speaker 4: Pierre Strong. He's a fifth round draft pick who hasn't
- 37:35Speaker 4: really played very much. And when they called on him,
- 37:39Speaker 4: it was fine. Why because they have a good offensive line.
- 37:42Speaker 4: They have arguably the best run coordinator in Bill Callahan,
- 37:46Speaker 4: who understands how to put a running game together, and
- 37:48Speaker 4: he was productive. They went out and they signed Kareem Hunt,
- 37:52Speaker 4: and by all accounts, it's going to be to support him,
- 37:54Speaker 4: not to replace him. New Orleans not a great offense.
- 37:59Speaker 4: They lose Jamal Williams Monday Night SAT the Monday Night doubleheader, which,
- 38:03Speaker 4: by the way, I like, I don't think we've touched
- 38:04Speaker 4: on that. You like that both early games like not
- 38:08Speaker 4: like a seven and ten, It was a seven and eight.
- 38:11Speaker 4: I liked to They were going back and forth. But
- 38:14Speaker 4: Jamal Williams goes down with a hamstring pull and they
- 38:16Speaker 4: put in a guy who the former Notre Dame kid.
- 38:20Speaker 4: I forget his name now, I forget his name I'm sorry,
- 38:24Speaker 4: like I, but he you know, he wasn't great. He
- 38:28Speaker 4: filled in a little bit, but showed some toughness on
- 38:29Speaker 4: the goal line a couple of touchdowns. It didn't fall
- 38:32Speaker 4: apart like I would rather have seen Bill say, I'm
- 38:36Speaker 4: going to keep Pierre Strong in, Kevin Harris or one
- 38:39Speaker 4: of at least one of them before I go out
- 38:41Speaker 4: and get Ezekiel Elliott. Now if you all of a
- 38:43Speaker 4: sudden get in the situation they're in right now, like
- 38:45Speaker 4: we can't run it anywhere. Hey, maybybe we need more
- 38:47Speaker 4: talent back there. Maybe it's the running backs, you know,
- 38:49Speaker 4: and we're going to support it. I just thought that was, like,
- 38:52Speaker 4: this is why I always push back on the cheap thing.
- 38:54Speaker 4: I don't think it's cheap. I think it's misuse. You know,
- 38:59Speaker 4: at times, would rather have paid, you know, three times
- 39:02Speaker 4: what they paid Ezekiel Elliott to get Hopkins or a
- 39:04Speaker 4: receiver you know of some sort to come in.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I just was, Zeke, I think that, you know, I'm
- 39:10Speaker 3: not going to sit here and say like that. I
- 39:12Speaker 3: because I agreed with the move at the time.
- 39:14Speaker 10: I was.
- 39:14Speaker 4: I didn't hate it. Yeah, fairness, I can't be a fraud.
- 39:17Speaker 4: I didn't hate the movie either.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I agree with the move at the time in a
- 39:20Speaker 3: vacuum to sign Zeke. The Pierre Strong trade still bugs
- 39:23Speaker 3: me because you knew that you were going to be
- 39:27Speaker 3: spread heavy, Like you knew that you were going to
- 39:28Speaker 3: spread the field Mac and the gun and run this
- 39:31Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien offense, and you traded your one fast running back.
- 39:35Speaker 3: And it's like, even if he doesn't know where he's
- 39:37Speaker 3: going on between the tackles carries, if you get him
- 39:41Speaker 3: out into some space with the ball in his hands
- 39:43Speaker 3: on a swing pass or a screen or an outside
- 39:46Speaker 3: toss or something like that, we've saw in a little
- 39:50Speaker 3: bit of that sample in his rookie season that he
- 39:52Speaker 3: can run with the football. And if you're going to
- 39:55Speaker 3: be this shotgun, spread formation offense, like what good is
- 39:59Speaker 3: it having a two hundred and twenty five pound running
- 40:01Speaker 3: back next to Mac Jones, Like it's just not a
- 40:04Speaker 3: fit for the two backs that they have. So I
- 40:07Speaker 3: thought that they were going to be an early down,
- 40:09Speaker 3: under centered team with Remandre and Zeke trading off, and
- 40:12Speaker 3: then when they went to the spread stuff, that they
- 40:14Speaker 3: would let Pierre Strong play and get him into some
- 40:16Speaker 3: space and get him You know, maybe have him create
- 40:19Speaker 3: an explosive play, which they can't do without any speed
- 40:23Speaker 3: on the field. And they traded him for a tackle
- 40:26Speaker 3: that they have all sorts of tackle issues and Tyrone
- 40:29Speaker 3: Wheatley can't even get on the field, So you know,
- 40:32Speaker 3: what was the point of that trade?
- 40:34Speaker 4: Like that one was odd to me, Like if they
- 40:36Speaker 4: traded Pierre Strong for the other kid, at least I
- 40:39Speaker 4: would say, well, at least he has somewhat of a track.
- 40:41Speaker 4: I mean, Wheatley is a total projection. Yeah, he's never
- 40:44Speaker 4: played yeah tight end, you know, so he's a total projection. Now,
- 40:48Speaker 4: maybe they have some maybe he'll be the next Steven Neil.
- 40:51Speaker 4: I don't know, but I just didn't see like the
- 40:54Speaker 4: need to give some something up for that.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Tommy's in New Jersey. What's up, Tommy?
- 40:59Speaker 12: Hey, guys going today?
- 41:00Speaker 3: Okay?
- 41:01Speaker 9: Good?
- 41:02Speaker 1: Hey?
- 41:02Speaker 12: I got a couple points I want to make, So
- 41:04Speaker 12: cut me off if I get too long winded. Number One.
- 41:08Speaker 12: My biggest annoyance like watching the Patriots and Dolphins game
- 41:11Speaker 12: the other night, was seeing the roster disparity. And I
- 41:14Speaker 12: know this is something you'll always touch on. I'm watching
- 41:18Speaker 12: I'm watching Isaiah Win play left tackle for the Dolphins
- 41:21Speaker 12: looking like a damn all Pro and I'm watching Gesteki
- 41:25Speaker 12: and Parker play for the Patriots at important positions in
- 41:28Speaker 12: today's day and age, and I mean, they weren't even
- 41:31Speaker 12: good enough to be in Miami once they got Hill
- 41:33Speaker 12: and Waddle, Like, why isn't Bill understanding that elite weapons
- 41:37Speaker 12: are more important today than first round guards? And the
- 41:41Speaker 12: second I want to make is I don't love this
- 41:44Speaker 12: team's mentality. And what I mean by that is like
- 41:47Speaker 12: back in the day, when they would play the Steelers,
- 41:50Speaker 12: who were more physical, the Patriots were a more finesse team.
- 41:53Speaker 12: They were the faster team. Then when they played the Colts,
- 41:56Speaker 12: who were more finesse, they were the more physical teams.
- 41:59Speaker 12: I don't know what this team's m is, and it's
- 42:01Speaker 12: not versatility because they just kind of are what they are,
- 42:04Speaker 12: which is slow and unexplosive. And I just want to
- 42:08Speaker 12: know why that mentality has changed over the years and
- 42:11Speaker 12: what they can maybe do to change it and go
- 42:13Speaker 12: back to those old school philosophies they once held.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Tommy, I think it's simple. It's better players.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I mean, they were able to be versatile because they
- 42:21Speaker 1: had versatile players who were good right, you know.
- 42:24Speaker 4: And just just for a quick correction, just so people
- 42:27Speaker 4: don't yell at us. You know, wins now playing guard,
- 42:29Speaker 4: and you know, I want to give the guy to
- 42:31Speaker 4: my left a little credit. All pro guard. Creed always said.
- 42:35Speaker 1: That was his that's his floor.
- 42:37Speaker 4: His floor was an All Pro guard. Now, I think
- 42:39Speaker 4: he's far from being an All Pro, but he played
- 42:41Speaker 4: earned it. He played guard. The other point I think
- 42:44Speaker 4: is valid, you guys, I think Parker and Kasiki were
- 42:47Speaker 4: guys that Miami deemed unnecessary.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, I I out of all the things that
- 42:53Speaker 3: I think people get on on Belichick for with you know,
- 42:56Speaker 3: a lot of people get on them for like the
- 42:58Speaker 3: in game decisions, like Pop Douglas right now is like
- 43:00Speaker 3: the number one thing to me in terms of like
- 43:03Speaker 3: if you're talking about his future here with the Patriots,
- 43:07Speaker 3: it's about the philosophy, Like it's about his offensive philosophy
- 43:10Speaker 3: and his philosophy for winning football games of you know,
- 43:14Speaker 3: like Paul always says we're gonna play good defense, special teams,
- 43:18Speaker 3: and we're gonna win the game that way. Like that,
- 43:20Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 43:21Speaker 4: That's that way. And I'm quoting, like Slater said, you know,
- 43:24Speaker 4: coach always says we want to be a physical team,
- 43:26Speaker 4: and in order to be a physical team, you have
- 43:27Speaker 4: to run the ball, stop the run, and play good
- 43:29Speaker 4: special teams. Yeah, and I just think that that is
- 43:32Speaker 4: not the way a vast majority of NFL games are
- 43:35Speaker 4: won anymore. The more talented offensive team generally wins.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Now you have to stress the defense you have and
- 43:42Speaker 1: you can't just do it running.
- 43:43Speaker 3: You just you know, you look at the game against Miami,
- 43:46Speaker 3: and that's a team that's on the cutting edge, like
- 43:49Speaker 3: how they scheme it, how they approach the team building
- 43:52Speaker 3: aspects of it. And I'm not saying that they're like
- 43:55Speaker 3: this great, you know, super Bowl winning team like the
- 43:58Speaker 3: Patriots have been in the past, but Derek Ship is
- 44:01Speaker 3: going in the right direction in ours is not.
- 44:03Speaker 4: And that's just the bottom line. I don't know what
- 44:05Speaker 4: they're ultimately going to end up getting out of it.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Maybe they will never quite be good enough, you know,
- 44:10Speaker 4: to get over the hump. But two things on that.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Number One, you know, defensively, if they could get Jalen
- 44:16Speaker 4: Ramsey back playing at anywhere near the level that he
- 44:19Speaker 4: has played the majority of his career, that could be
- 44:22Speaker 4: a pretty good defense. If you take like sort of
- 44:24Speaker 4: a journeyman like Eli Apple who struggled at times the
- 44:26Speaker 4: other night, and make him your third or fourth corneries.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Now you have some of that depth to rely on.
- 44:32Speaker 4: And the other thing is, and I don't know about
- 44:34Speaker 4: this from but I read something before the season. It
- 44:39Speaker 4: was I forget I wanted to credit someone. But one
- 44:42Speaker 4: of these statistical based websites ranked the rosters like just
- 44:47Speaker 4: pure talent, and a lot of people think Miami has
- 44:51Speaker 4: the second most talented roster top to bottom in the league,
- 44:54Speaker 4: behind the Niners.
- 44:57Speaker 3: That's like their top five.
- 44:58Speaker 4: That's what people think of them outside of New England.
- 45:01Speaker 4: They stink here, like but you know, Tua can't play.
- 45:04Speaker 4: I get it, But that's how people outside of New
- 45:08Speaker 4: England think about Miami.
- 45:10Speaker 1: How would Mac be on Miami.
- 45:11Speaker 4: I think he'd be fine. Yeah, they'd be good.
- 45:14Speaker 7: I mean, I you know, I don't I don't want
- 45:15Speaker 7: to bash Mac. I just I think is really good.
- 45:18Speaker 7: I just think he needs to get You need to
- 45:19Speaker 7: give that guy credit for how he manages the offense.
- 45:22Speaker 7: And you know his his.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Already being mentioned very early as m v P.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It's like, I give him some credit Canada, And I'm
- 45:30Speaker 3: not trying to come at it to a spot where
- 45:33Speaker 3: I think, to his stinks. But McDaniel and those weapons
- 45:38Speaker 3: are terrific. Like McDaniel, he does all of this.
- 45:42Speaker 1: He's an odd guy, but he's smart and hit.
- 45:45Speaker 3: I think what really put it over the edge for
- 45:48Speaker 3: me because I love guy offensive coaches McDaniel, Shanahan, like
- 45:51Speaker 3: I love those guys Piavey.
- 45:52Speaker 4: That's why I'm not willing to say that was the
- 45:55Speaker 4: coaching one.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but what put me over at the top in
- 45:57Speaker 3: this game with McDaniel is that the three safety look
- 46:00Speaker 3: was different, Like that was something that was a little
- 46:02Speaker 3: bit unique and a little bit different that they hadn't
- 46:04Speaker 3: seen before. He didn't give a crap. Oh, he just
- 46:07Speaker 3: like he adjusted instantly to it and they went right
- 46:10Speaker 3: down the field with it. Didn't matter that the Belichick
- 46:14Speaker 3: did this three safety thing now was you know, on
- 46:16Speaker 3: innovative or whatever you want to call it. And McDaniel
- 46:19Speaker 3: just had the script like he was just like whatever,
- 46:21Speaker 3: like we're just gonna, you know, threaten the flats. We're
- 46:24Speaker 3: gonna you know, conflict linebackers and attack their slower linebackers,
- 46:28Speaker 3: and we're gonna move the ball down the field by
- 46:30Speaker 3: not throwing it down the field, you know what they.
- 46:32Speaker 5: Had trouble with too a couple of times.
- 46:34Speaker 7: I don't know if it's really a wheel route, but
- 46:36Speaker 7: it's almost like a guy is kind of like in
- 46:38Speaker 7: an h back position just offset and then he just
- 46:40Speaker 7: kind of like basically a wheel route, but just right
- 46:42Speaker 7: out into the flat. And I mean they probably hit
- 46:44Speaker 7: that three four times for good gains, and it was
- 46:47Speaker 7: just a to me. It was like, man, they are
- 46:49Speaker 7: just schemed up right now. They know exactly what they're
- 46:51Speaker 7: looking for and they know where to attack.
- 46:52Speaker 4: You know what I was really impressed was the two
- 46:54Speaker 4: minute drive at the end of the first half that
- 46:58Speaker 4: he started with two of the simplest swing passes to
- 47:00Speaker 4: Akmed and the only reason why they only got nine yards.
- 47:04Speaker 4: They would have gotten more if it wasn't a two
- 47:06Speaker 4: minute drill like Achmed was first and foremost concentrating on
- 47:10Speaker 4: getting out of bounds, you know, you know, not trying
- 47:14Speaker 4: to lower his shoulder and break a tackle or anything
- 47:16Speaker 4: like that, but just easy drive starters, right. You know,
- 47:20Speaker 4: how many times have you seen teams come into Foxborough
- 47:23Speaker 4: and they play a decent first half and it gets
- 47:25Speaker 4: to the end of the half and maybe they have
- 47:27Speaker 4: the lead or maybe it's tied, and they just say,
- 47:30Speaker 4: I just get to the locker room here. You know, well,
- 47:33Speaker 4: we're in the game. We're all right. Miami says, screw that.
- 47:37Speaker 4: I'm gonna call time out when the other team has
- 47:38Speaker 4: the ball. So I'm gonna have more time left, and
- 47:42Speaker 4: I'm gonna come out and I'm gonna throw because i
- 47:43Speaker 4: don't care if it's incomplete, because I'm just gonna complete
- 47:46Speaker 4: the next one and I'm gonna go down the field
- 47:48Speaker 4: and score in that drive, swing pass, swing pass, slant
- 47:52Speaker 4: to Craycraft, slant to Craycraft. Then we're gonna get burrios
- 47:57Speaker 4: on the little flag row whatever you want to call it.
- 48:00Speaker 4: Real I knew, I knew we would have the real
- 48:03Speaker 4: name for it.
- 48:05Speaker 5: Go back across, he went up and corner.
- 48:08Speaker 3: It's a little fake for you.
- 48:10Speaker 4: Wh and and uh. I just thought it was as
- 48:14Speaker 4: effortless a drive as you'll see. And I think you
- 48:18Speaker 4: could you could write a book on the on the
- 48:19Speaker 4: touchdown play, just how like schemed schemed up it was.
- 48:23Speaker 4: They put them in a bind that the Patriots had
- 48:26Speaker 4: no no answer for.
- 48:27Speaker 3: He out fox Belichick the whole the whole night like
- 48:30Speaker 3: the whole night pretty much until the second half when
- 48:33Speaker 3: they started making their own mistakes, honest.
- 48:35Speaker 4: And I really do think that that's what it was. Yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 4: is I know, I Fred gets mad at me a
- 48:40Speaker 4: lot of times because he's like, oh, anything about Patriots
- 48:42Speaker 4: dot com. But I don't say that about the Eagles.
- 48:45Speaker 4: The Eagles made plenty of mistakes, but I think the
- 48:47Speaker 4: Patriots forced a lot of them. I don't think the
- 48:49Speaker 4: Patriots forced many of the mistakes that Miami made.
- 48:51Speaker 1: All right, Uh, Paul's going to force down a sub
- 48:54Speaker 1: right now. His friends will be right much smaller than Paul's.
- 48:58Speaker 1: We'll be that that that that's true. We'll be right
- 49:01Speaker 1: back after this. Oh, show within a show today. What
- 49:04Speaker 1: are you doing? Okay, all right, We'll be right back

- 49:57Speaker 4: What's up, everybody?
- 49:58Speaker 6: Check out this clip from Rodney how Everson on the
- 50:00Speaker 6: latest episode of Pats from the Past.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Yea, we were joking around just before we started. My
- 50:05Speaker 4: guess is that Tony's memories aren't quite as warm a
- 50:08Speaker 4: fuzzy as yours. You know, for a September, you know, Beauty,
- 50:10Speaker 4: it couldn't be a more perfect night. He was probably
- 50:12Speaker 4: wondering why it's not snowing as he was driving it.
- 50:16Speaker 2: But I'll tell you this man, just talking to Coach.
- 50:18Speaker 14: He has a lot of respect for the Patriots organization,
- 50:20Speaker 14: Coach Bill and everything that we've accomplished. And I mean
- 50:24Speaker 14: those battles were epic. You know, you're talking about going
- 50:26Speaker 14: against Dungee and how well prepared he had his team,
- 50:30Speaker 14: Peyton Manning, all the great players that they had. I mean,
- 50:33Speaker 14: I can't believe I'm fifty years old when I want here, brother,
- 50:37Speaker 14: I was, you know, twenty nine years old, and now
- 50:40Speaker 14: I'm fifty. And just like you talked about a different
- 50:42Speaker 14: part with kids, I got a son that plays for
- 50:44Speaker 14: the University of Tennessee who got their butts kicked yesterday.
- 50:48Speaker 14: But it's just really nice to be back, and it's
- 50:51Speaker 14: nice to see you guys still, you know, talking football.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Appreciate that.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Appreciate that.
- 50:54Speaker 15: So I'm gonna put you on the spot a little
- 50:56Speaker 15: bit here as you're waxing nostalgia and it's amazing what life.
- 51:01Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing what life is.
- 51:02Speaker 15: But who would have ever thought fifteen years ago that
- 51:05Speaker 15: you and Tony Dungee would be together on a broadcast
- 51:08Speaker 15: and doing that. That's a small world. But your lives
- 51:11Speaker 15: interestect like that. Do you have a favorite memory here
- 51:16Speaker 15: at this stadium? Obviously you want a super Bowl in Houston,
- 51:19Speaker 15: you want a super Bowl in Jacksonville, and those are
- 51:21Speaker 15: things that I got a believer at the pinnacle of
- 51:24Speaker 15: your professional football career here at you let Rodney, is
- 51:27Speaker 15: there something special that you remember that that takes a
- 51:30Speaker 15: cake of the ultimate memory that you might have.
- 51:32Speaker 2: I think I don't know.
- 51:33Speaker 14: I don't remember the exact game, but just when Coach Belichick,
- 51:36Speaker 14: I think it was when it was an AFC championship game,
- 51:39Speaker 14: when he gave me a big hug and said, I'm
- 51:42Speaker 14: glad we got you here. That was a very special
- 51:45Speaker 14: moment because all I ever wanted to do was make
- 51:48Speaker 14: him proud of me and let him know that the
- 51:52Speaker 14: decision that he you know that he made bringing me here,
- 51:55Speaker 14: that that wasn't a bad decision, and he gave me
- 51:58Speaker 14: an opportunity when so many around the league kind of
- 52:00Speaker 14: frowned upon Rodney Harrison.
- 52:02Speaker 2: He believed in me.
- 52:03Speaker 14: He gave me a bunch of freedom where I can
- 52:05Speaker 14: go out there and just play and express myself. And
- 52:07Speaker 14: I just couldn't love love a coach more than I
- 52:11Speaker 14: got love for Coach Belichick.
- 52:12Speaker 4: You talk about that freedom that he gave you, and
- 52:14Speaker 4: I wanted to ask you about and was one of
- 52:16Speaker 4: the two playoff games. I'm not sure if it was
- 52:19Speaker 4: three or oh four, but when you and Ty sort
- 52:21Speaker 4: of it must have been on three because I don't
- 52:22Speaker 4: think he had three picks. Yeah, and you guys kind
- 52:24Speaker 4: of swapped like you were kind of up in like
- 52:26Speaker 4: the corner spot, like popping guys, and allowed Tie to
- 52:30Speaker 4: you know, just that kind of freedom. Was that something
- 52:31Speaker 4: that you guys had spoken about before that?
- 52:34Speaker 2: And he never really questioned.
- 52:35Speaker 14: He said, Hey, you guys kind of do what you
- 52:37Speaker 14: want to do as long as you're in a proper
- 52:39Speaker 14: spot and you guys communicate, and and that's the type
- 52:42Speaker 14: of freedom that he allows veteran players, guys that he trusts.
- 52:45Speaker 14: We put so much hard work and effort in and preparations,
- 52:49Speaker 14: so when we did something like that, I know he's
- 52:51Speaker 14: on the sideline panicking, But you know, Ty Law and
- 52:53Speaker 14: I I.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Mean, to be able to play with a guy like
- 52:55Speaker 2: Ty a Hall.
- 52:56Speaker 14: Of famer, you know, and Richard Seymour and Vince wilf
- 52:59Speaker 14: Fork and know those guys, I mean I had some
- 53:02Speaker 14: special players out in San Diego, But to be able
- 53:04Speaker 14: to play with some Hall of famers and some guys
- 53:06Speaker 14: like Willie McGinn as, Kevin Faulk, Troy Brown, I mean.
- 53:10Speaker 2: These guys are legends.
- 53:11Speaker 14: These guys are not only are they brilliant football players,
- 53:14Speaker 14: they're very smart people and to be able to have
- 53:17Speaker 14: that opportunity was just truly a blessing.
- 53:19Speaker 4: And don't tell yourself short. You had probably the biggest
- 53:22Speaker 4: pick of that game when they went right down the
- 53:23Speaker 4: field the first drive you had the interception in the
- 53:25Speaker 4: end zone, Right, Is that how that all started? Well,
- 53:28Speaker 4: stepped in front of Pollard.
- 53:29Speaker 14: We all try to we all try to set the
- 53:31Speaker 14: tone and it's not about one player. It's about the team.
- 53:34Speaker 14: And you know, I can't you. I gotta mention my
- 53:39Speaker 14: boy Tom Brady. You know, just seeing Tom get the
- 53:43Speaker 14: love that he got last week coming back to the stadium,
- 53:47Speaker 14: and just seeing how old of a man he was.
- 53:49Speaker 2: You see how tired that dude was. He was tired,
- 53:51Speaker 2: breathing hard. I thought TV twelve.
- 53:54Speaker 15: Now look at Ruddie. I mean, you're you've got a
- 53:57Speaker 15: job that takes you to Where were you last Sunday?
- 53:59Speaker 15: You're in New York for the Giants Dallas game?
- 54:01Speaker 2: Kansas City before that.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Yeah, And I don't know.
- 54:03Speaker 4: If you saw this.
- 54:03Speaker 15: Did you see the guys on the sideline that were there.
- 54:06Speaker 15: You mentioned Kevin Falk earlier, Kevin Fox in the front
- 54:10Speaker 15: where all the former players were and he's chanting.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Brady Brady Great.
- 54:16Speaker 15: There's Dan Graham, you know, Kevin Fok, Darrell Reeves came
- 54:22Speaker 15: back for the game to see that kind of close
- 54:26Speaker 15: knit people, Rush Hokestein, you know, Dan Copen, aee of
- 54:29Speaker 15: those guys coming back to just want to appreciate Tom.
- 54:33Speaker 15: That made somebody who's been here for a long time.
- 54:35Speaker 15: Made me feel good because that means it's important to
- 54:37Speaker 15: these people to be there.
- 54:38Speaker 14: And it also shows you how much of an impact
- 54:40Speaker 14: Tom has had, not only just on the guys that
- 54:43Speaker 14: he works with, you know, as far as the offense,
- 54:46Speaker 14: but everybody. I mean, Tom has made such an impact.
- 54:49Speaker 14: When I came here, we used to have lunch together.
- 54:51Speaker 14: We used to sit down and have conversations and just
- 54:54Speaker 14: talk about life, talk about perspective. And I just see,
- 54:57Speaker 14: you know, Tom, twenty years later, he's you can see
- 55:01Speaker 14: his personality. You see him smiling, laughing and being the
- 55:04Speaker 14: genuine funny guy that we saw everybody else.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Man, is this guy a robot? Does he ever smile?
- 55:10Speaker 2: Does he have any emotion? But now since he's retired,
- 55:12Speaker 2: he could take a deep breath.
- 55:13Speaker 14: He's gone through a lot and now you know, he's
- 55:16Speaker 14: just living his best life.
- 55:18Speaker 4: What has it been like working with with Devin? You know,
- 55:21Speaker 4: you have mentioned that you have all the former Patriots
- 55:23Speaker 4: coming back. What's it like been a teammate with him now?
- 55:26Speaker 14: Just a very humble young man, a guy that has
- 55:29Speaker 14: such a beautiful future. I mean, he was a heck
- 55:31Speaker 14: of a football player, great free safety. I think he
- 55:34Speaker 14: was the best free safety that played under Belichick in
- 55:37Speaker 14: the Patriots uniform. A guy that it matters to him
- 55:41Speaker 14: and you can tell with his preparation the conversations that
- 55:43Speaker 14: we've had. I try to offer him a little bit
- 55:45Speaker 14: of advice, but just a family man, great husband.
- 55:49Speaker 2: I'm just extremely proud. You know.
- 55:51Speaker 14: I never thought that NBC would give another Patriots safety
- 55:55Speaker 14: and opportunity. So I felt really proud of that because
- 55:58Speaker 14: I take pride in my job I take and trying
- 56:00Speaker 14: to do the right thing, being consistent. It's been fifteen
- 56:03Speaker 14: years and people look, oh, what happened to you, You're
- 56:06Speaker 14: not in the studio. Well, God had something different from me.
- 56:09Speaker 14: I went from the studio to being on the field
- 56:11Speaker 14: where I can interact with players, coaches, general managers and
- 56:15Speaker 14: just being so close to the game. And Devon's doing
- 56:18Speaker 14: such a wonderful job in the studio. Come on, man,
- 56:20Speaker 14: two Patriots doing Sunday night football.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Maybe maybe NBC knew what a tandem that would have been.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Oh my good with the free safety like Dev and
- 56:29Speaker 4: then old school right.
- 56:33Speaker 2: I definitely wanted his contract, but.
- 56:35Speaker 15: Oh yeah, yeah, it's not a big sample size Rodney
- 56:38Speaker 15: and your student. You're so you're watching everything. How have
- 56:41Speaker 15: they done? And you don't replace Devin mccordy. You don't
- 56:43Speaker 15: replace Rodney Hassen. So how what have you seen that
- 56:46Speaker 15: they're trying to do? Because he was such an integral
- 56:49Speaker 15: part of the communication, making sure that everybody's in the
- 56:52Speaker 15: right spot and everything like that. What have you seen
- 56:54Speaker 15: as they're trying to replace.
- 56:55Speaker 14: Well, I think the players that they get. Obviously, you
- 56:57Speaker 14: can't just learn one position. You have to be able
- 56:59Speaker 14: to learn multiple positions. And if you can't communicate, you
- 57:02Speaker 14: can't play with the Patriots. I don't care if you're
- 57:04Speaker 14: a corner, because at times, even if you're a corner.
- 57:06Speaker 14: Marcus Jones, he's playing safety sometimes. You know, Kyle Duggart,
- 57:10Speaker 14: he's playing deep middle part of the field, but he's
- 57:11Speaker 14: also playing linebacker, but he's also playing strong safety in
- 57:14Speaker 14: the box. So you have to be able to know
- 57:17Speaker 14: and be able to communicate multiple positions. And when I
- 57:19Speaker 14: come off the field, I have to be able to say, Okay, guys,
- 57:22Speaker 14: this is what happened at the linebacker position, but also
- 57:24Speaker 14: be able to switch my mindset to this is what
- 57:26Speaker 14: happened at the nickel spot.
- 57:28Speaker 2: So these guys are smart.
- 57:30Speaker 14: They all communicate, and they know that they have to
- 57:32Speaker 14: be efficient at every position that they play.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Could you have played you know the way that they
- 57:37Speaker 4: do it? Absolutely? Could you have figured it out?
- 57:39Speaker 14: See the difference would have been and the reason why
- 57:41Speaker 14: I used to hit guys up high because guys would
- 57:44Speaker 14: actually come and tell me, hey, Rod, come on, man,
- 57:46Speaker 14: avoiding my knees because I'm trying to make a living.
- 57:49Speaker 14: I got three kids and a wife, and I'm like, cool,
- 57:51Speaker 14: don't mind. I don't want to hit you in the knees.
- 57:53Speaker 14: But if you're asking me, I can go full speed
- 57:56Speaker 14: and hit a guy in his knees now as opposed
- 57:58Speaker 14: to hitting them up high trying to protect him, then
- 58:01Speaker 14: I would have made the necessary adjustments.
- 58:03Speaker 2: Definitely something.
- 58:07Speaker 7: All right, we're back from lunch, or at least some
- 58:11Speaker 7: of us are. Evan went out to practice. It's Deuce
- 58:14Speaker 7: holding down the ford here for a minute, Fred dealing
- 58:16Speaker 7: with stuff, Paul finishing off that sandwich, all right, got
- 58:20Speaker 7: it down and getting ready.
- 58:22Speaker 4: For hour too.
- 58:22Speaker 5: Here on the show. There we go.
- 58:24Speaker 4: We got Fred back.
- 58:25Speaker 5: Now, don't worry, it's not gonna be me, all of them.
- 58:28Speaker 5: Our version of that sounds delicious.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Come on, Mike, keep you going, gonna keep going.
- 58:38Speaker 5: I forgot, I forgot. Your balls are so tender walls, Pete,
- 58:43Speaker 5: that's right, yeah, Pete switty. So yeah, here we are.
- 58:47Speaker 5: Oh you're just I'm back, all right, Yeah, take over Fred?
- 58:50Speaker 1: All right?
- 58:50Speaker 4: Fine?
- 58:51Speaker 1: Eight five five PATS five hundred is the A Sticket hotline.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 58:57Speaker 1: We're talking, of course, all things Patriots getting ready for
- 59:00Speaker 1: the Jets. Evan has left for practice, so he was
- 59:04Speaker 1: out there, so he will be back from practice soon.
- 59:09Speaker 1: Can't wait see who's out there. Late. News came out
- 59:14Speaker 1: late last night that Trent Brown was given a little
- 59:17Speaker 1: bit of a bump this year incentive base, but two
- 59:20Speaker 1: million dollars. So we'll see if he's out celebrating.
- 59:26Speaker 7: You know that he has a chance to maybe earn
- 59:28Speaker 7: two million extra dollars probably in the works for a while,
- 59:31Speaker 7: I would guess. I mean, we all went back last
- 59:33Speaker 7: year when all of a sudden he's playing left tackle,
- 59:34Speaker 7: that they probably wanted this.
- 59:35Speaker 5: To happen last year.
- 59:36Speaker 4: I go back to training camp.
- 59:37Speaker 7: You know, I mean, I can go back to you know,
- 59:39Speaker 7: when they first put him in left tackle and been like, hey,
- 59:41Speaker 7: what we didn't realize.
- 59:42Speaker 4: No, but like he started, you know, he didn't really
- 59:44Speaker 4: do a whole lot in training camp. He was out there,
- 59:46Speaker 4: but he wasn't really participating, so he wasn't really dealing
- 59:48Speaker 4: with anything. And he laughed at us when we asked
- 59:50Speaker 4: about it. And now here you go, you get a
- 59:52Speaker 4: couple of million in senses, much like Matthew Judon. I
- 59:57Speaker 4: think there might have been some some of that with
- 59:59Speaker 4: DeVante Park as well. It's like guys that was sort
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: of angry for different reasons, and it kind of got
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: a little extra a.
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: Little bit interesting to me that they would redo the
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: contract and not really consider resigning them. I mean, they
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: don't have any tackles really coming back next year except
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: that I guess the new guys are probably under contract,
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: but you know, as far as starters right now, certainly
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: Trent's not coming back, or at least not I mean, sorry,
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: I misspoke. He not under contract right now. Let's hope
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: you know that. But let's hope they've learned that lesson.
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: But if you're talking to them about a little sweetener,
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: you know, no consideration and maybe pay Let's tack another
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: year on and maybe at least provide a body here.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: When we come back next year at Tackle to work with.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Well Focused On twenty twenty three, Mike right Bradley writes
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: in thanks for moving these podcasts to YouTube. For every show,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: YouTube lets us rewind from the beginning for those of
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: us who can't catch the first hour but don't want
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: to wait till it's complete and sent out to Spotify
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: or other platforms to listen. I thoroughly enjoy listening to
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: you guys on my lunch break, and now I'm able

- 1:01:07Speaker 1: see your smiling faces as we go six and eleven
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: fingers crossed. We turn it around for more excitement and
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: uplifting patriots.
- 1:01:14Speaker 7: Unfiltered shows all right, try try my best here for uplifting.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: But look at winning. It helps everything.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: I'll tell you that it does.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Melvin's on the ace stiket houtline. What's up, Melvin?
- 1:01:26Speaker 10: Go on?
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: Hey hey.
- 1:01:28Speaker 16: Two things. The first thing is in regards to the
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: just the division itself. The last, you know, big picture
- 1:01:37Speaker 16: of the two big dogs, I guess Miami and the Bells.
- 1:01:41Speaker 16: But most part whenever they come to play us at home,
- 1:01:44Speaker 16: they can come in play about an average game, and
- 1:01:47Speaker 16: but most I beat you. There's a big gap between
- 1:01:50Speaker 16: the hours. In this previous game, I felt like if
- 1:01:54Speaker 16: Miami wanted to score more, probably could. It wasn't too
- 1:01:57Speaker 16: much that we could do really to stop them at
- 1:02:00Speaker 16: particular moments. But I feel like they put their you know,
- 1:02:03Speaker 16: took their foot out the gas a little bit. But
- 1:02:04Speaker 16: it didn't seem like from an overall standpoint, the score
- 1:02:07Speaker 16: itself seemed the close, but I mean the game was
- 1:02:10Speaker 16: over pretty much pretty early. Yeah, just a general feeling.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: What you're saying, yeah, ye.
- 1:02:18Speaker 16: And then the second thing is like with our players,
- 1:02:21Speaker 16: you know, just adjusting to different players. I know, uh,
- 1:02:25Speaker 16: Douglas fumble or whatever it is like that, But in
- 1:02:27Speaker 16: that particular moment. I know Bill talks about previous times.
- 1:02:30Speaker 16: You know, it's it's I mean, players are different, people
- 1:02:33Speaker 16: respond differently, you know, generations are different these days. So further,
- 1:02:40Speaker 16: I never got fumbled, clearly, I never got fumbled. But
- 1:02:43Speaker 16: further embarrassing him or further like doing particular things to him,
- 1:02:46Speaker 16: I don't know how that there's two things you're supposed
- 1:02:48Speaker 16: to do this. I think it further discourages your player,
- 1:02:51Speaker 16: and it doesn't increase your chance to win this game.
- 1:02:53Speaker 16: That's there. Who knows that could have went in there
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: and caught a nine yard bomb like there wasn't. Who
- 1:02:57Speaker 16: knows I can put them back there?
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I agree, Like, it's not it's not like you have
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: all these other guys, like you know, that are producing,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: and like, why are we going to put a guy
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: out there that's gonna fumble when we have all these
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: other guys that are producing. And I think Bill tried
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: to make that point after the game, but it fell
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: on deaf ears because you know, he was like, you know,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: we had other guys having productive games, you know, and
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: he didn't finish it by thing.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: Right, that's the thing that bothers, right.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: That's the thing. It's like I can understand that mentality
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: if you've got a bunch of playmakers, right, Like, why
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: are we going to put a guy out that's going
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: to give the ball to the other team when we
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: have other playmakers? And that's not the point. The point
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: for this year on this team is that you don't
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: that this guy is one of your more dynamic guys
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: and you need him for in the best interest of
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: the team. You need him. It's not like other years
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: where Okay, you know, we've got James White and we've
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: got a bunch of other guys and we you know.
- 1:03:57Speaker 16: Yeah, and he's young, he could shed down. There's like
- 1:04:00Speaker 16: a lot of different emotional things that he could do,
- 1:04:02Speaker 16: or he could just go out for a sixty.
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: You don't know.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm less worried about his mental state than
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I am about winning the football game.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Well, to me, it's both. I think Melvin's right, I
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: think that can have adverse effycts and he's right to say,
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: you know, these soft well because this I'm not going
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: to get into a big thing, but you can't tell
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: me there aren't differences between a lot of these guys
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: now than they would have been twenty years ago.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Give me the tough guys.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: But anyway, right, and you don't know if you have one.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I'm not worried about I'm worried about winning the game
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: and having guys out there that can well, that's first
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: and foremost.
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: But I'm gonna tell you, I don't think a lot
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: of people have talked about this. So it was fumbling,
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: and what did he do with the rest of the game.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: Mike returned punts.
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: Does that make sense to anybody? Yeah, right, I'm worried
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: about him fumbling. He's got to go and feel shame
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: because he fumbled, and now I'm gonna have him handle
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: punts right, and one of them by the way, he
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: started running backward. I uh, I mean, I don't want to.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: I don't sorry.
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: I'll let Melvin for finish.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: Before you know, you good.
- 1:04:58Speaker 16: I was trying to see what they're gonna fight.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: But yeah, all right, we got good. You're always good
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: at start.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: We're all in agreement. That to Mario Douglas. I think
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: I'm with Melvin and Mike and Fred. I think they
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: he should have been continued to be a part of
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: that offense. And they had about four positive plays in
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: that game, and he made two of them.
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: Yeah, and they and they, you know, Bill O'Brian continue
- 1:05:17Speaker 7: to kind of dance around it and kind of say,
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: you know, similar to what Bill did of you know,
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: And I'm not going to say that that they're that
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: they're being, you know, fully upfront. And you know, there's
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: just no one came out and said we benched him,
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: you know, like every the whole thing, it's just been like,
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: this is how he'll learn from it, Yeah, which is
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: like and I and I still think he did, and
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: I still think that we should be outraged about it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: But it just doesn't make sense to me with Paul
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: saying you're gonna bench him, but you're gonna let him
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: return punts, you know, Like I don't know, they're just
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: it doesn't it may it might not be as cut
- 1:05:45Speaker 7: and dry as he fumbled and these that's it, he's done.
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: Put them over there. I I wonder if it's you know,
- 1:05:50Speaker 7: not quite as that cut and dry. I just think
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: it's crazy that we're in week two and we're all
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: kind of up in arms that they pulled the Mario
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: Douglas the sixth round rookie to put in Juju Smith Schuster.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: I mean, it's It illustrates what has happened and how
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: much things have changed them kind of our preseason prediction.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Definitely, there's no doubt. I mean, there's no excuse for it.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: You've got to be aware of what's going on over
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: all around you.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: I just think it was a tough one.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: A lot of guys made mistakes on Sunday. You know,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: you can't take them all out of the game.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: I think. I think fumbles can be different too. I do,
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: and I know, I know it sounds silly like to me,
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: the Ezekiel Elliot fumble is far more egregious than that
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: one was.
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: You know, Oh yeah, I would say, so.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: Didn't put the ball away. I mean, Douglas had the
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: ball and.
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: He didn't have no idea that was and a veteran
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: kind of in a traffic filled screen pass area where
- 1:06:37Speaker 7: you know there's gonna be arms. I mean I even
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: said it out loud on Douglas's first pass when he
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: was running on, like, hold onto the ball. You know,
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: it's just, you know, those things with a rookie are
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: just so important. And I mean, didn't everybody see that
- 1:06:48Speaker 7: coming though? As soon as as he.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Was We don't.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: We're not privy to practice.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: I say, I'm gonna take Bill's side on that. Yeah, right, Fred, like,
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: because he came from college with a yea. I talked
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: a little bit about this with him. I mean with coaches.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: He had a little bit of a ball security issue.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and maybe it's it's reared its head in practice,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: and Bill said, listen, you can't do that, and you
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: know he had to make a point, but yeah, I
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: just I'm just looking at the state of the game
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: and the team at that point.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right for it, Like the first and foremost,
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: you got to try to do everything you can to
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: win a game.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Now, if he does it again, okay, I mean we're
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: now we're handing the other team the game.
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: But I just think it's setting up something really interesting
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: as far as him not Maybe direct conflict is the
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: wrong word because their teammates and they're both vying for
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: a position. But I mean, I think everybody right now
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: is saying, you know, and I think Greg even reported
- 1:07:39Speaker 7: Bard said, you know, someone on the Dolphins said he's
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: like their only real explosive player. I read that today,
- 1:07:44Speaker 7: you know, I thought that was interesting, Like, you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: so we're all gonna want him on the field. So
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: is that going to be directly in conflict with Juju?
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: Who is you know, we all know what's going on
- 1:07:52Speaker 7: with Juju right now. He was you know piece they
- 1:07:54Speaker 7: signed to a significant off off you know, off season deal.
- 1:07:59Speaker 7: So it's just it's it's going to continue to come
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: to a head. Get Juju off the field, get Pop
- 1:08:03Speaker 7: Douglas on there. You know, is that going to be
- 1:08:05Speaker 7: kind of the rallying cry of how to get this
- 1:08:07Speaker 7: offense to be more explosive and is it going to
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: come at the expense of, you know, one of your
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: crown jewels of free agency.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And yesterday we made a comment about you know what,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: Bill said, you know what was the biggest problem? You know,
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: you stressed the fast turnovers and I think I know
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: at the time, I said, you know, I'm also starting
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: to get a little annoyed at some of the comments,
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: and that was one of them. We never really got
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: back to that. Yesterday the first game against Philadelphia, turnovers
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: were huge. I mean, a direct pick six that takes
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: you know, it takes a three to nothing game with
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: you on the move and takes it it makes it
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: a ten to nothing game. That was a huge swing
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: in the game, and then you follow it up on
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: your next snap by turning it over again to give
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: them a short field to then make it sixteen nothing.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: No one would argue that what was the difference in
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: that game? Turnovers? Early turnovers put us in a hole
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: this game. I'm sorry. The difference in the game was
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: not a turnover. The difference in the start of the game.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: You didn't fall behind seventeen to three because you fumbled
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: on the second series and then let Miami go. You
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: have the game book right in front of you, Mike.
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: What was the drive that made it ten to nothing?
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: The next one that would be eleven plays seventy three yards?
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Okay, you didn't. You didn't lose that game because of
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: a turnover when you let the team go seventy three
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: yards after said turnover and then that was it.
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I mean, and you know, just to illustrate
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: it all right, on their first drive the first half,
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: they they didn't blow start, they didn't turn the ball
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: over in the first half, but on second and twelve
- 1:09:31Speaker 7: and first they do run for negative two yards and
- 1:09:33Speaker 7: negative play. Then Matt gets sacked for negative nine yards.
- 1:09:36Speaker 7: You're now in third and twenty one right, Stevenson for nothing. Now,
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: just to compare that to the drive that you just
- 1:09:41Speaker 7: asked me about. Already up seven to nothing. You know,
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: Isaiah Win has an illegal block above the waist, so
- 1:09:47Speaker 7: back them up ten yards. They're first in nineteen. But
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: what happens they get a twenty eight yard you know,
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: the twenty eight yard pass.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: To Wattle screen.
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: It just shows you what happens why the Patriots they
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: get in a hole hard to come out, but when
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: you have weapons, those guys you can get out of
- 1:10:01Speaker 7: those holes.
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: And the play that Douglas fumbled on was what third
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: and nine, I want to.
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Say, yep, third and eight, So third and long.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: He's converting the same way Miami converted the along yardage
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: with a quick screen to a quick, fast receiver who
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: made a play, and unfortunately he fumbled and then we
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: don't see him again the rest of the night.
- 1:10:24Speaker 7: And he would have had the first down and he
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: would have would they would have been going, you know,
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: they would have been they would have been marching.
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: So maybe that's something to build up.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Christopher the ti An says, all the knowledge in that
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: studio and no one's been able to pin what the
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: issue is with this team, isn't it obvious? It's the
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: lighthouse bell, bad news bell, no more bell until the
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: team wins. It's the equivalent of singing Sweet Caroline at
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Fenway when the socks are getting blown out. I don't
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: know that that happened at the beginning of the game.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: We don't ring the bell in the middle of the
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: fourth quarter, right, But I know he's just haunving fun.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Oh boy, everybody's a comedian. Although we did have Kevin
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: It's came my Friend and Duncan Donuts Love the halftime
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: show with Rodney Harrison.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Oh thank you, yeah, hot Rod Yeah, yeah, he's uh,
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: he's great, He's he's just he's It was always one
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: of my.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Few bond Big hug, Yeah, big hug.
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: Any uh any I said to brad I said to
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: Bradley afterwards, I said, you know, I used to have
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: relationships with what he started.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Laughing, Uh video in California. What's up?
- 1:11:28Speaker 8: Hey, guys, can you hear me?
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:11:31Speaker 10: Cool?
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: Hey, uh California A longtime pats. Then I remember putting
- 1:11:36Speaker 8: a bucket under my leaking roof in the twenty eighteen
- 1:11:38Speaker 8: NFTY Championship because I just couldn't be bothered. So I know,
- 1:11:43Speaker 8: I don't want to take up too much time because
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: I'm the lost folks, So I don't want to get
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: to the point here, what is it going to take
- 1:11:48Speaker 8: to fix this O line? Because my theory is, you know, Max,
- 1:11:51Speaker 8: like you got what two seconds two point four seconds
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: to throw the ball? You give him a bit more
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: time to throw that ball. Receivers know that Mac has
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: a little bit of time, They can get a bit
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: more open, players can get a bit more explosive. Things
- 1:12:03Speaker 8: just haven't been looking good since Cornekia left. No, I
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: hear you you coaching or talent or players like in
- 1:12:10Speaker 8: your opinion, I mean, we may not have the right answer, right,
- 1:12:12Speaker 8: but what do you think we need to do to
- 1:12:14Speaker 8: an Now we're in the off he's going to fix
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: this online. I mean let's start there.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I mean talented, talented tackle. But I'm going
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: to make a prediction. This is a good test this
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: week because this is a formidable front seven, good defense.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: I think you're going to see improvement. It's not going
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: to be you know, Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: It can't be worse.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's you're going to see improvement.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Strange now has a game under his belt. And when
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: you has a game under his belt, Trent Brown, I
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: think is going to be back. You know, David Andrews
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: is still there. Of course, I think and Low.
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: Play right tackle or do you think that?
- 1:12:49Speaker 7: I mean, I think anything will be on the table. Yeah,
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: anything will be on this Like.
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: I don't think it'll be as bad because I don't
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: think you can play that bad two weeks in a Yeah, anybody.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: You're going to see it be better. It's not going
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: to be great, but it's going to be better than
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: last week.
- 1:13:03Speaker 8: Yeah, let's hope. So because I saw I saw a
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: stranger and I think it was strange. And when you
- 1:13:08Speaker 8: not one guy, I know, Doc Mackwell, they were both
- 1:13:11Speaker 8: holding the one dude and they couldn't even hold him.
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: I was like, come on, I know we can.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Do better you Yeah, yeah, cool, all right, Hey, love
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: you guys. All right, thank you for calling. Let's go
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: to Rooney in Tennessee.
- 1:13:29Speaker 17: This is not Roony, Ernie.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Ernie, oh Man, Matt, it's not even close.
- 1:13:38Speaker 17: Yeah. I thank you guys for the great content that
- 1:13:43Speaker 17: you guys put out than you really appreciate.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Ernie. Can you come back to the Booths and you know,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: call Bill during the game. I'm only two.
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: You know they had Rodney Harrison and halftime. Did that
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: bring back memories?
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:13:55Speaker 17: Yeah, you guys do a great job and just appreciate
- 1:13:58Speaker 17: you guys. Mike Beef is with Bill not starting the
- 1:14:03Speaker 17: younger guys or putting him in the doghouse like he
- 1:14:07Speaker 17: did with Douglas. Then he got Booty. You know, they
- 1:14:11Speaker 17: don't even give the guy a chance. He makes a
- 1:14:12Speaker 17: couple of mistakes and he's out of it.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Boy was hurt, just you know, just to clarify, Booty
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: had a hamstring pull that limited him during the course
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: of the week and that's why he was inactive. Okay,
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: But the Douglas thing we've talked about. We agree with you, Ernie.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: We thought it was a strange choice to sort of
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: take him out of the offense from that point on.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: And I do think he has let some of the
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: younger players play a little bit, not a not a
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: ton defense, not a ton other than Gonzalez. Gonzalez plays
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: every snap, but White, White and Map who have been
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: sort of part time players, and they're fighting their way.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: I mean, I think I think it's at least a
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: positive sign that Bill's letting some of these young guys play.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:14:56Speaker 17: I think I think we'll see a better product to
- 1:14:59Speaker 17: the middle of you think it better, they'll get better.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: I think so too.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: When the schedule lightens up. Now, we'll have the same
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: thing that we've had. We'll play better against the Saints
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: than they did against the Dolphins teams not Sundays, the
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: tougher teams. Yeah, yeah, I didn't see it. It's not I
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: think in the first game, absolutely, Philly is a good team.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: Philly is a good offense, and they made that offense
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: look average.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the defense played really well against Philly.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: I still think that, Like, I don't change my opinion
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: because of what I saw the following week. I think
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: they played well in the first game.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Eric's in New Jersey. What's up? Eric?
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Hey?
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: Fred?
- 1:15:38Speaker 10: Paul?
- 1:15:39Speaker 16: Uh, Yeah, Paul.
- 1:15:40Speaker 12: I think the you know, the Eagles playing not playing
- 1:15:42Speaker 12: another preseason there might have had something to do with it.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: But maybe maybe Yeah, I want.
- 1:15:48Speaker 18: To kind of give us two points here and kind
- 1:15:50Speaker 18: of see your guys take on it. I see the
- 1:15:53Speaker 18: only two viable options to make this offense uh any
- 1:15:57Speaker 18: dynamic would be to Mario Douglas and then you know
- 1:16:00Speaker 18: Tae Kwon Thornton. I mean he's the only guy that
- 1:16:02Speaker 18: can you know, they have their two skills sets that
- 1:16:04Speaker 18: aren't replicated on this roster and possibly do you see
- 1:16:08Speaker 18: them you know, maybe trying to get creative that's using
- 1:16:10Speaker 18: those motions that McDaniel's uses with hill Waddle to kind
- 1:16:14Speaker 18: of you know, free up that space with you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 18: Tae kwan, so he's not getting jammed off the line
- 1:16:18Speaker 18: and you know, maybe get through downfield throws and I'll
- 1:16:20Speaker 18: pick it off the line. Thank god.
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been thinking about that. I mean, it's it's
- 1:16:24Speaker 7: some of that. It's it's appealing in theory. In practice,
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: I wish I've seen it to like have some excitement
- 1:16:30Speaker 7: about Thornton and say, you know, I think his speed
- 1:16:32Speaker 7: can really you know, help complement this offense and you
- 1:16:34Speaker 7: know maybe I mean that's the thought that's going through
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: my brain constantly, like, well, if maybe Douglas and Thornton,
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: like maybe those two get them out there, you know,
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: with Parker and a little smattering of Born and then
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: maybe you've got some speed. But unfortunately, I just I
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: can't tell you that I've seen a lot out of
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: Taekwon Thornton enough to at least make me think.
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: That it's it's possible.
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: I mean, in theory, it is that you know the
- 1:16:53Speaker 7: player we thought we were getting when he came out,
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: but I just haven't seen it yet.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: How about Eldred in North Carolina?
- 1:16:59Speaker 10: What's up, drid Hey tell us how y'all doing today?
- 1:17:02Speaker 10: All right, I'm doing pretty good.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Paul.
- 1:17:06Speaker 10: I'm gonna pick at you because for ten to twelve
- 1:17:09Speaker 10: years you've been picking at me, and I kept saying
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: you need a better gym because he can't draft Bill
- 1:17:15Speaker 10: was a good draft that was still now Buddy.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: Two shake to Shae, Buddy. I don't let a lot
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: of people. I don't let a lot of people talk
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: to me like that. But you get away with that Aldridge.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:17:28Speaker 10: Yeah, but there's one day to keep telling me about
- 1:17:30Speaker 10: this offense. And even with mc daniels and Bill or
- 1:17:35Speaker 10: Bill O'Brien, why did you want to go deep with
- 1:17:38Speaker 10: the slowest receivers on the team. I can't never I
- 1:17:40Speaker 10: can't never understand that. I know you got Rager and
- 1:17:43Speaker 10: he only been there a couple of days, but you
- 1:17:45Speaker 10: can't tell him to a slug o or or a flag,
- 1:17:48Speaker 10: you know, to the to the goal line with that
- 1:17:50Speaker 10: speed and then try to do it to him. I
- 1:17:52Speaker 10: can never understand that with that office.
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: I go back to the previous caller and sort of
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: the idea of you know, getting thought and out there,
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: maybe sending him over the top and having Douglas you
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: know underneath, you know too speedier guys, maybe you can
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: carve out some space. Reager is is what he is.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: I mean, he's a He's a wash out journeyman. At
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: this point. I'm not expecting I'm not expecting anything from him. Now.
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: Maybe you know, who knows, Maybe they resurrect his career,
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: you know, wouldn't be completely unprecedented, But I don't know.
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: I mean, they just promoted him to not even let
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: him enter the game.
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: So I mean that that that that to me, insurance
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: that to me told me that they didn't know if
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: Parker would be able to play every snap. He played
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: every snap, and they didn't need Rager.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Thanks Eldred, appreciate the call. I'll do a quick em. No, oh,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: there's evan. Guess what.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: Has turned has returned?
- 1:18:51Speaker 18: Has turned.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: The Hello Hello? So miraculously by some miracle. Trent Brown
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: back didn't see that Hatriots practice today.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I think the incentive was, what can you show up
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: to practice today, and they said, okay, we'll give you
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: two million.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: Dollars some more good news. Jonathan Jones and City so
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: both back as well. There we go, the only player
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: pencil without what we believe to be an excused absence
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: for Dvon Godshaw. Congratulations to him and his fyance with
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: the baby. Marcus Jones. No, no, Marcus Jones. Marcus Jones
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: shoulder is what it was reported as during the game
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: by the team, So.
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: Be curious to see if there's a concussion involved as well. Well,
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: he because he got they made a big deal of
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: it first time. Yeah, like he like he hit his
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: head on that play too, and I think he definitely
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: has a shoulder injury, you know the way they were
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: coming off the field with his arms sort of tucked up.
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: But I think there was some head contact there too.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: And who knows, the weather is nice here seventy two degrees,
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: So did that affect the mood at all?
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: Evan, No, No, there's still a lot of grousing, still
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: some grousing. No, No, there wasn't a ton of grousing,
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: but uh, you know a couple of practices in the
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: row where we haven't really had a whole lot of
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: time out there. Ll not a lot of time last
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: week there and not a lot of time today. So
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: basically you have the bare minimum amount of time to
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: take attendance and the get the heck out of here.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny. This isn't a side. But I was
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: reading because we're going to Germany, so I was reading
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: the rules of practice access in Germany, and the league
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: mandates that, you know, for the practices in Germany, media
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: has to have up to thirty minutes at least, you know,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: thirty minutes of practice time or when the team goes
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: into their team drills. So it's like, does anyone from
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: the league understand how this works? Like, like, so they
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: start the team drills five minutes in and then it's over. Yeah,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: you know, like there's no sense in putting in the
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: thirty minutes.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: I thought we were going to get to watch a
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: whole practice in Germany for a second.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: So it's words, it's going to be no different than
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: the practice we get here.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Ye, not a not a big deal, but yeah, that
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: was very short out there. Today. So I have no
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: idea how anybody looked or anything that went on.
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: Really got the mood Marcus John's camp, is that really up?
- 1:21:14Speaker 10: Pad?
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Pads?
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: Yes, pads today, pads. So they've been doing Wednesday, they've
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: been doing pads most Wednesdays. I would say since the
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: first Yeah, most Wednesdays they've been doing pads. You know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: Bill Brian said yesterday that run game, obviously, with how
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: bad it's been, is going to be a huge emphasis.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: So I'm not surprised, you know, put the guys in
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: pads and let's let's try to get this thing rolling
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: for Remandre.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Okay, there have been several media people who have had
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: very hot takes lately. Were they out there? Any of
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the hot takers?
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Uh, I'm not sure you're referencing Greg Better?
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Was he out there?
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: He was? What was his hunting?
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: Better doesn't go?
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Did you hear him yesterday?
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: No?
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Oh he was just like I read him today, he
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: had a rant. Oh yeah, it was good, good it
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: actually like he did make a lot of sense.
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: I have to say, you know, I read the stuff
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: that that he and Giarti have been talking about with
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: the defensive game plan, and I'm not sure I'm on board.
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: I think I'm more on on Belichick's side. I know
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: that probably stunned you Fred the whole you know, passive
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: approach on defense. I yeah, I'm not telling you it
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: worked because I don't think it worked. I don't think
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: they played very well. But I think the reason why
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: it didn't work for the most part was because I
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: don't think they tackled the way they normally do and
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: swum to the ball and whatnot. But like, I don't
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: think it was a dumb sort of idea to say
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: we're gonna just put everybody back and make sure that
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: they go the long way. I don't think that was
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: a I mean, like I said, it didn't work, So
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: I'm not trying to give him credit for something that
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: I don't really think was executed properly. But if you
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: just played them straight up, do you think it would
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: have been any better worse.
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: Trying to go get them right? You know, we'll see.
- 1:23:06Speaker 7: I mean, it's not that far before they played them again.
- 1:23:08Speaker 7: I think it's just.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: What was his hot take? What did I miss?
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Well?
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: I just think to that I agree with you that,
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: like that's the kind of the only way you can
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: play offenses like that. I think Jabriel Peppers said it
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: best after the game when he said, you have to
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: make them snap the ball as much as possible, Like
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: if they're just if they're just going right down the
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: field in five six plays all night long, then it's
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: the we're screwed. But at the same time, this team
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: needs the defense to dictate the game, right, like the.
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: Defense point, and they have a lot of money on
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: the defense.
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: The defense can't just like bend, don't break, and they
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: can't just hold on against good offenses. The defense needs
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: to win the game, and they were very, very far
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: from winning the game. But his rant about Pop Douglas
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: was spot on. I mean the point that he made
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: about so Zeke fumbles on his first ever touch as
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: a Patriot in Week one and is immediately put right
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: back into the game. But then a rookie fumbles on
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: a rookie miss moment, really it was all it was
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: and never sees the field again. So like, where's the
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: consistency like with it, either you're in the doghouse for
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: returning the ball.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: It's a rookie rule. I mean, we've seen it before here,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: you know, and I haven't liked it. Then no, we
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: never liked it, but that's what he does. I would
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: conditions on the ground have changed since those times, you know. Yeah,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: that's my thing, you know, like we're desperate right now,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: we're desperate for We're desperate for somebody who's dynamic.
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: I mean, it's not exactly the same in any way,
- 1:24:36Speaker 7: but I just I was just thinking of Welker getting
- 1:24:38Speaker 7: bench before that, and that's.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: Not a rookie thing. I do think it's an inconsistency thing.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: Guys you like, guys you don't like.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it's That's what I'm thinking.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: But I also think that that's you know, Bill, you know,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: you know, just paying respect to another coach, you know, Yeah,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: that and I get it. I get that, you know,
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I'm I'm okay with that.
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: I wondered if if Ezekiel Elliott did that, if he
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: would have gotten benched. I guess is no.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Micah from South Dakota, You guys open the show by
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: talking about how the Jets offensive line hasn't been good
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: in the first two games. I feel like our pass
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: rush hasn't been playing anything spectacular to start either. I
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: want to see Matthew Judan make his presence known this week.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on Jude on possibly having a
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: big game. Also, I saw that Christian Gonzalez is third
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: highest rated corner in the league on through the first
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: two weeks. What have you seen from Christian Gonzalez early
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: this year that makes him so highly rated? A billy,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: the swivel hips, the ability to cut with the player.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I mean, that's a rare talent. You know, I go
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: back to revs like that. I just love watching revis
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: do that just mirror his you know, the receiver. Obviously,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: dian Bran Sanders was amazing.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Prime, you know he but coach coach.
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: Did you hear what Coach Prime did at practice? Did
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: you hear this?
- 1:26:07Speaker 13: I did?
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: Good for him putting pumping music in noise into his practice.
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: I didn't know that.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: I never I don't. I don't know if I've ever
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: seen that.
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: But he's any level of revolutionaire I've never seen trying
- 1:26:19Speaker 7: to mimic the sound of the game correct, Oh my god,
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: like they actually had the Oregon fight song playing Chestnut Checkers. Guys, Wow,
- 1:26:28Speaker 7: I thought you were talking about him referencing the player
- 1:26:31Speaker 7: who hit a hunter out of back, you know, on
- 1:26:33Speaker 7: the sidelines, and you know, he kind of stood up
- 1:26:35Speaker 7: for the player and said, you know, they all kind
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: of came out.
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: I well, I loved the player who got hit. It's like, no,
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: that's football.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: More death threats, please?
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: Can I defend that? The pass rush thing in that
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: email for Matthew John has been great. He's been their
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: only impactful front.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: He was the only front seven guy that showed up
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: the other night.
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would say that in this game against Miami,
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: if you want to get on them for the run defense,
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: totally valid. It's not their fault that they too was
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: getting the ball out in one point nine to eight seconds,
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: Like you can't get home and the quarterback is getting
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: the ball out that quickly, and he's getting it out
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: that quickly because they're eight yards off all the receivers
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: the entire game.
- 1:27:11Speaker 7: It's so two very specific offenses. I think that just
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: limit how much you can really go and.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: Attack the quarterback. I think it's situation.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: I thought week one they really got after hurts.
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: I thought they did a good job in Week one two.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, christ and Kolfax California. I personally may be on
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: an island here, but I would be perfectly okay with
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: the Patriots winning two games this year, both Jets games.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Yeah you are as.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Long as Gonzo continues to show he's a building block
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: of the defense, wife Whitely map who keep getting playing
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: time and getting better, and one of the young receivers
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: shows he can be a good player. All of this
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: take Caleb Caleb Williams with the first pick and hand
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: the reins to Billy. Oh and build this team for
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: a quick turnaround.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: Oh so we talking about but you gotta get them weapons,
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: you know, Like I don't know, Like I don't know
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: how all those things happen, and then they only win
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: two games. But I mean the way he explained it,
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: you could sort of say, I mean, okay, like every
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: young guy we have is a building block for the future,
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: but somehow it's not translating to any success. I know
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: he's a swee.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: David writes in I love Bill and have defended him
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: for years, but it's crazy he hasn't gotten an elite
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: number one receiver. I feel Mac would take a massive
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: leap if he had one. I think about all the
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: top quarterbacks and how they play without their elite pass catcher.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I love Bill, and I wish there was a way
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: to keep him as a coach, but not as GM
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: also proud member of the Booty Clap Bandits shout out
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: to Mason on catch twenty two last week.
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: What is this?
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Is this something that you guys? What's a clap band?
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: I don't know?
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: Oh, come on, you know?
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: I honestly Alex's lap Now, these are the stupid. These
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: are like the Patriots Twitter things that like Barth knows
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: that it makes us a good duo because my head's
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: in the sand when it comes to these things. I
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: don't know. But Booty clap Band, Booty was inactive a
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: healthy scratch.
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: I don't think he was a healthy scratch.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: I don't know. He played pretty poorly.
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: You're doing a good job if you make the Booty clap.
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: Oh thanks making Booty go Matt again, enough about your weekend?
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I do. I would.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: I would disagree with you on that. I think he
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: I don't think that they elevate a guy off the
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: practice squad to not play if Booty was healthy, I
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: don't think that much.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: I agree with you there, I suppose, but I don't
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: think Booty's seen in the field regardless.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Well that could be yeah, speing Fresno. I'll be schlepping
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: across this great nation for work and scored a ticket
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: for this Sunday's Patriots Jets game. Well where my James
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: White jersey. Madame Moran's judgment be damned Fred. While at
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: the game, what can I do to help the team?
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Originally I figured storming the field and maybe streaking could
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: boost Max spirits, But now I'm figuring I should focus
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: my efforts on relaying the pregame show keys to the
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: game to the Patriot's sideline. Any messages you'd like me
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: to give the a hole Jets fans. Zach Wilson looks
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: like a garbage, pale kid. You can You can hold
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: up pictures of your mother to Zach Wilson. Maybe that'll
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: distract him all.
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: I think that would get him in a good movie. Yeah,
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: I'll speaks.
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: Mom would feel about that though. Yeah, But be careful now,
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: be careful about their kids with Parker.
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: You know the whole thing about him playing every snap, everying.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: So I wouldn't be surprised if Booty's healthy scraped this week,
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: because I think they had an extra guy last week
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: just in case Parker wasn't healthy. Now they probably feel
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: like he made it out, so maybe they don't need
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: booty at all.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: It's either one of two things. Either Parker just wasn't
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: good the other night, which is possible he wasn't healthy,
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: or he wasn't healthy but he did not The film
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: was not friendly to Devonte Parker.
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think the film is overully friendly to
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: any of their receivers not named Tomorrow Douglas.
- 1:30:50Speaker 7: I kind of know what you're gonna say, Paul'm gonna say, anyway,
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: those can you just give riger a couple snaps to
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: see what he looks like? I mean, I know that
- 1:30:55Speaker 7: there's probably not much there, but like you dressed him,
- 1:30:57Speaker 7: you'll elevate him. You only get a couple of elevations
- 1:30:59Speaker 7: a year on these kind of guys. Like is it
- 1:31:01Speaker 7: worth just give him a couple of snaps?
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: You know what I think of him? I know, I
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: know that's it.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: The Parker thing, though, like the interception was was a
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: bad throw by Mac. I'm not trying to absolve Mac
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: of any wrongdoing.
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: But it was a really bad play by Parker.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: If you're DeVante Parker, you cannot get like bullied out
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: of bounds like that by.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: That, Like That was my question after the in the
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: post game show, was like, why is he out of bounce?
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: And he got if we were if we were knocked
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: into the cheerleaders, No, if we were.
- 1:31:33Speaker 7: Du Dolphins and Fielder, I feel like I would be
- 1:31:35Speaker 7: saying this is like textbook from Xavi and Howard, like
- 1:31:38Speaker 7: you know, I mean, I know it can't happen to Parker,
- 1:31:40Speaker 7: but like he did everything perfect, including making the interception.
- 1:31:43Speaker 7: But I mean, talk about pinning a guy to the
- 1:31:45Speaker 7: sideline so he has nowhere to go and then being
- 1:31:48Speaker 7: able to turn around and make the ball.
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: It was just got at least can tend to test
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: the catch point if your Parker, like even if he
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: just even if you don't come up with it, like,
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: at least make it a harder interception for Xavi and
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: how I mean, he just didn't have any fight whatsoever
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: on that pass. And Howard just completely and.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Also looked on the play like Howard picked up the
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: ball faster than Parker, Like Parker.
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: Turned because Parker was mixed up with the chili.
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: Right, you know, like Howard had a beat on the
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: ball before Parker. Did you know it was just a
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: it was a bad I thought it was a.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Bad play, yeah, you know, situationally, a bad read, bad throw,
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: bad route, bad you know that, bad reaction to the threat.
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of blame to go around
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: on that.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: Kevin and Dublin. I won't add to the various concerns
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: voiced about the state of the patron's talent. However, I
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: think there was a real leadership void in this team.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I don't like how this team reacts to tough situations,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: and that extends to Bill. This team has a soft underbelly,
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: and that could be the thing that kills their season
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: in September. Now I'm wondering what his examples of that are,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: because they fought both games, Like after digging a hole,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: they fought back, you know.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: So I don't know like where he's coming up with that.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: I just think like all this stuff like leadership and
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: all this intangible stuff, like it's easy to be a
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: great leader when you're winning, Like, I just I don't know.
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: I don't think that that's the problem. Like, I don't
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: think the problem isn't that they don't have any raw
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: rock guys in the locker room or anything like that.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: I think the problem is is that they don't have
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: a whole lot of talented players on offense, so they're
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: they're losing games. And I don't think that that's gonna
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: magically change because like somebody gives a great halftime speech
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: and they and they all come out and let's win
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: one for the Gipper. Like, I don't think that that's
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: gonna I.
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: Mean, I'd love to get a after Matthew Slater retires
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: to get a real answer. What was it like the
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: last few years when you guys went from constantly AFC championships,
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: super Bowls to being, you know, a team that they
- 1:33:47Speaker 7: are a team that has to fight every week, and
- 1:33:49Speaker 7: every week everyone goes to Matthew Slater for the answers,
- 1:33:52Speaker 7: and you know, I mean, he's he's obviously a wonderful
- 1:33:55Speaker 7: human being and you know, says things that are you know, inspirational,
- 1:33:58Speaker 7: but it's just got to be such a challenge for him.
- 1:34:00Speaker 7: Like you said, it's easy to be a leader when
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: you're winning. But I imagine that he's probably getting, you know,
- 1:34:05Speaker 7: as sick of as we are of kind of these
- 1:34:08Speaker 7: recurring postgame narratives of what it could have should have
- 1:34:11Speaker 7: you shot yourself in the foot? What do you have
- 1:34:12Speaker 7: to do this week to get back on track. Those
- 1:34:14Speaker 7: things like I've heard that one hundred different times from Slater.
- 1:34:17Speaker 7: Now I imagine he's done with it too.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Dave and bangor Maine. I really hope you guys read
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: this because I want answers.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: First of all, I wish I had one.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: First of all, I think mac he says Max. I
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: think Max Jones is really good, and I think he
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: can get better. His deep balls need work, but his
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: ability to read the field and put the ball where
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: he wants it is really good. The receivers just can't catch.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I think Boorne was four for ten, Juju might as
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: well not be there, and Pop Douglas and Booty were
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: bench for making rookie mistakes. That's another thing. Does Bill
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: really think it's a good teaching technique to bench a
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: player after a mistake. We don't have the offensive talent
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: to be doing that. I think our best bet to
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: salvage the season would be to trade Born and a
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: high draft pick for someone like Judy your Wattle. Okay,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: uh I.
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: Born in a high draft pick for Wattle? Yeah yeah,
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: I think Miami being yeah right.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: I love Born, but he can't run the roots and
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: he can't catch. We need a star, can't be competitive
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: with the talent we currently But I'm a broken record.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: It's funny how the dumb fans knew last year was
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: going to be a disaster, and the same dumb fans
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: were skeptical about not having any offensive talent. It looks
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: like the dumb fans were smarter than the smartest coach
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: in the game. Maybe we can draft Shador standards next year.
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: He's the next Mahomes mark my words.
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: I do like Shuter Standers.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: How about if they do that?
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: Should should that?
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: How you says Travis Henry coming with him?
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: But what if they did that? You know, you're get
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: in a situation where you could draft him.
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: I you know what I kind of come through with
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: Mac is like I just I'm fine with him, and
- 1:35:53Speaker 7: I don't I don't really I'm not really interested. I'm
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: not really interested in like swapping him out for a
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: veteran journeyman and like like Mac is like fine, And
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: unless we can clearly upgrade him in the draft because
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: he needs to be then great. But otherwise I would
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: just say, let's stick with Mac, Let's continue to throw
- 1:36:12Speaker 7: it at the wall in the draft and take you know,
- 1:36:14Speaker 7: mid day, mid mid round picks, but I'm not interested anymore,
- 1:36:17Speaker 7: and like, hey, let's get rid of Mac and go
- 1:36:19Speaker 7: for Andy Dalton for a year or Jamis Winston for
- 1:36:22Speaker 7: a year.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Of suggesting that, no veteran that I can think of now,
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: I don't know, there's none that I would be interested
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: in that would represent a big enough upgrade over Mac
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: yep to make it worth it for me. Like Kirk
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: Cousins is going to be a free agent at the
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: I think he's better than Mac, but I don't think
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: enough better to make you a championship contender.
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: The only guy that they I would really be interested
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: to know, like if Baltimore was actually fielding trade calls
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: for Lamar Jackson or if that was all just postering.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: That's different than negotiation, because that that was the one
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: thing that I could have seen that.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: Nacan Rodgers, you know, like those kinds of things.
- 1:37:01Speaker 7: Unless that's where I'm dunk obviously, that's where the interested
- 1:37:05Speaker 7: in Jim.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: Are better, but not enough that it's gonna lift Those
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: are guys that aren't lifting their offensive players around them either.
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: I'm also just not I'm not sure that if they're
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: in a position to go back in the draft at quarterback,
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: that this is the regime that I want drafting and
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: developing said quarterback after what happened with this one. Well,
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: like I just it's if they're going to be in
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: a position where it's Caleb Williams and Drake May and
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: like we start talking about the real quarterbacks in this class,
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: like the top of the class. Then is this I mean,
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: I mean you're you're probably talking about it for a
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: new head coach.
- 1:37:38Speaker 7: How many regimes get that chance to have, you know,
- 1:37:42Speaker 7: multiple high first round quarterback picks. Oh that for a
- 1:37:45Speaker 7: high round, first round quarterback didn't work out, Let's go
- 1:37:47Speaker 7: get another. Like I I can't do the math in
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: my head, but I can't imagine that there are any
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: any regimes that get that chance to take multiple first
- 1:37:55Speaker 7: round quarterbacks and oh that one didn't.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: Let's do it every three years.
- 1:37:59Speaker 7: But it's always, but there are always turning it over
- 1:38:00Speaker 7: to new people, you know, new coaches, and you know
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: aparentess that's going to happen soon.
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: I mean at some point, whether you whether you pull
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: the plug on Belichick or not, I mean, at some
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: point he's seventy one, it's not gonna be here forever.
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: Well, that's kind of why I just don't have like
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: if they go to a different quarterback who isn't Mac.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: That that I'm not saying Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, but
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: like making a trade for Aaron Rodgers even though that
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: ship is sailed, Like, that's the type of move that
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: you would have to make for a seventeen two year old.
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: That's a bill that's a that's a bill move.
- 1:38:27Speaker 7: And I think you know, Aaron Rodgers is no question, Like,
- 1:38:30Speaker 7: no question, Aaron Rodgers raises the level enough. But I
- 1:38:33Speaker 7: just outside of a high first round pick right now,
- 1:38:36Speaker 7: I think you just kind of stick with Mac and
- 1:38:38Speaker 7: you try to build the rest of the team around him,
- 1:38:40Speaker 7: and then you know, by the time he gets to
- 1:38:42Speaker 7: the end fifth year, I think, you know, if it's
- 1:38:44Speaker 7: not working, then you know, maybe then you you you
- 1:38:46Speaker 7: cross that bridge. But I'm I don't want to say
- 1:38:48Speaker 7: I'm good with Mac, but I think he's.
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Well, let's say the pay five. Let's say the Patriots
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: finished six and eleven, Okay, so that puts him, you know,
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: bottom half of the draft. You know, are I mean
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: the top half of it? Yeah? Are you in the
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: quarterback business.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: I mean I think you have to be You're always
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: in the quarterback business.
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: But but at that level, that's the whole I need
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: to I mean, like I think Williams and May are
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: going to be top three, right, I mean, it's way
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: too early to be looking at the projections. And I
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: don't but those guys.
- 1:39:16Speaker 7: But if it's a striking this so and you get
- 1:39:19Speaker 7: and you can get Harrison and put would you rather
- 1:39:21Speaker 7: have Harrison with mac or would you rather have Caleb
- 1:39:23Speaker 7: Williams and nobody?
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: You know, Williams and nobody.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: So there's you know, it's a choice.
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: I'm not saying that's that's the choice.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: Because I'm not I'm not big on this is all
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: about all the weapons for this offense. I think that's
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: a part of it. But I don't think it's all
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: about that.
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: No, that's fair.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Christian has A from North Carolina has an interesting point,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: and there's something to it.
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: There's a scenario that Douglas, you know, getting benched, Uh,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: after getting bench doesn't use his best trait now, which
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: is being electric after the catch, because he's scared to
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: fumble and be benched. So remember Stephen Ridley, I really
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: think that because he got benched for a while for
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: fumbling and he had a couple you know. But I
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: think he changed his style so much after that because
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: he didn't want to like and I think it affected
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: his running ability well, you know.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: I mean I really do.
- 1:40:15Speaker 13: No.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: I just think that style wise, I heard you, I
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: heard I got you to laugh though, That's that's what
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: I heard you.
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: That's what I'm here for.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: But but I think it it altered his running a
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: bit of style enough where it might well it might effect.
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: Go to Damian Harris just a few years ago when
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: he's walking around the halls like holding a football like
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: it's the program and then and then he folmost the
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: next game again, like you know, I just it's a
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: fine line with some players and getting in their own
- 1:40:42Speaker 7: head and and you know, I just that's one of
- 1:40:44Speaker 7: the things about coaching that always, you know, intrigues me
- 1:40:46Speaker 7: is knowing what buttons to push. But some guys you
- 1:40:49Speaker 7: can't push the wrong button with them, because then they
- 1:40:51Speaker 7: get way too much in their own head and then
- 1:40:52Speaker 7: it's snowballs on.
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: I mean, you walked into that locker room after the
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: game on Sunday night, and Mac, I don't.
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: Know if Oh Martinez had a run journal of what
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: Mac was doing. Yeah, I missed those tweets, so I
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: don't know. It wasn't a tweet, it was an article.
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: Oh sorry, Mac.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: I think Mac and Pop Douglas's lockers are right next
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: to each other, and then Booty's locker is is right
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: there too, all in the receivers and uh, Mac and
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: Pop Douglas or sitting in their lockers with their heads
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: down with towels over their heads, in full uniform. Still
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: by the time the media got in got in the
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: locker room, which is you know, twenty minutes or so after,
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: I mean, everybody else is like showering, like you know,
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: pads are off all that, and the quarterback and Pop
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: is sitting in his in his locker, and I'm thinking
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: to myself, like quarterback, I get because they lost a
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: game on a fourth down like twenty minutes ago. He
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: fumbled in like the first quarter, like you know, like
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: you would think that you would wait to get out
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: of his equipment, and I I that was that. It
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: was like, I don't need a running diary of the
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: whole thing, but you know, it was some.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Yeah, some people might say, oh, so what when guys
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: do that and they know that the media is in there,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: there's something to it, and it may be, but they
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: know they're okay with being seen.
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: That way, is my point, right, you know, the one
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: who cares the tomo this guy, like I just I'm
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: not here for that kind of stuff, like the fact
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: that the fact that there was a running journal on
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: it to me, But.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: You're right, but you're right, like like it's not good.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: I get what you're saying, Like you know, like no
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: one else cares, like you have to make a show
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: that you care.
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: But I'm gonna be fair about it. To Mario Douglas
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: and I read all the quotes right away, stood answered
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: all the questions that to me is a strong positive
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: for a young player. And I think back, and I
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: think my buddy Mike Gi already wrote about this to
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: Cyrus Jones, who was a young player who fumbled up punt,
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: I want to say, in a Monday night game, and
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: he couldn't have gotten out of here fast enough, didn't
- 1:43:04Speaker 4: even come close, didn't even contemplate standing tall and taking
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: the heat. And I do think rather than like sort
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: of the dog and pony show of I'm gonna sit
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: in my locker. You know, I'll go back to you
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: a guy, So I'm gonna take this off the Patriots,
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: so you might take it a little bit more seriously.
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: Your guy that you hate as much as anybody in
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: the league right now, Steph Diggs, you're the one who
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: was so affected when you lost the AFC Championship game.
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: You're gonna stay out on the field just long enough
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: for all the NFL cameras to get you. Wow, that's
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: Steph Diggs, man, It really really cares like that to me,
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: is as worthless as worthless can be. And I think
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: he's a terrific player. I don't hate him the way
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: you do, But I don't. I'm not here for that
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: kind of history. Onis.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: But here's the think Paul, now, knowing what we know
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: now about Steph Diggs, it meant something good or bad,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: Like this stuff is not good, you know, like he
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: does when things go bad. With what we've learned from
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Steph Diggs is he doesn't handle it well, you know,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: when he doesn't get the ball, when when he doesn't
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: think the offense.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: You know, like when they lose or when they look
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: upset when they lose.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: But but that but it affects the team the way
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: he the way he by, I would hope affects the team.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: I would hope it's it's not good. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: I would also I understand where Paul is coming from
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: with the journal and that's ridiculous. But and in the
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: sitting in the lot, but I was the general mood,
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: you know that that was everybody.
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: Like a playoffs, especially especially I lost the playoff.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: Game, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: The defense.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: I think the defense has more confidence in general, and
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: they walk around with a little bit more swagger in general.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: And I really thought post game too, just get on
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: the on the topic. Like Matthew Judon's little opening statement
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: that he made was I.
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: Didn't like that either.
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: Why didn't you like that?
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: We're not a bad team. I'm not taking any question.
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: Don't tell me what questions Okay, the bad team thing.
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: I can tell me what questions I can ask and
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: I can't, but I'm not taking I didn't questions on that.
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: I didn't really that's not really what he said. But
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: I don't really go.
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: About I don't want to hear any questions about us
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: being a bad team, is what he said.
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but he meant like I don't want like, don't
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: be asking me questions where you're just trashing all over us,
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: like you know you want to ask your questions, but
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: don't like you know, we're not going to tell you.
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: Nobody does that, right, certainly not here in New York
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: they do anything.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: I thought that the bad team thing and the questions and.
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: Something different.
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought what he what he said about, uh,
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: the lack of energy that they come out with early
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: in games and how you know, he said that we people,
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: the opponents are too good, the schemes are too good,
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: the players are too good. That if you get yourself
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: into these holes, like you're not going to win very
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: many football games in this league playing this way.
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: And you know I I I thought that that, Yeah,
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: I have no problem with that.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: I thought that he showed, you know, he's not for
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: whatever reason, they don't vote him a team captain, but
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: it's very very clear that he is other than mac
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: Matthew Judon is the face of this team right now.
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah, And I thought that, you know, him standing
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: up there and at least addressing the elephant in the
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: room right off the bat, without even being prompted by
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: questions and things like that was what leaders do. Like
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: people talk about no leadership and I thought he showed
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: great leaders.
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: This isn't making me feel great.
- 1:46:27Speaker 7: I didn't really hear all this stuff about the locker
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: room being like that and then Mac being kind of
- 1:46:31Speaker 7: dower today.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: This isn't given me a great vibe right now.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Well, if they come out and kick ass, then I'll
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: be okay. Yeah, Kyle and Pembroke. I have two predictions
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: and how the Jets game will go. My fan optimistic
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: prediction is that we win forty two to three, shutting
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: them down on defense and dominating them at offense. My
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: realistic prediction is that we win thirteen to six in
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: a defensive snorefest like the second game last year, with
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: the Jets only scoring two field goals. How do you
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: guys think it'll go.
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: The second one?
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: Me too?
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: I got three more likely the second one just yet,
- 1:47:05Speaker 7: My fan one's like, you know, forty three great? My
- 1:47:08Speaker 7: prediction apparently on Patriots Unfiltered on TV, which I did
- 1:47:11Speaker 7: on Monday when I was sleep deprived, and Paul correctly
- 1:47:13Speaker 7: instantly called me out for like predicting a.
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: Twenty seven to twenty four game and it almost fells out.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: What and the I'm like, like a lot of defensive
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: scores in that one. I see this more like seventeen thirteen.
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: But then, but then my real PLT is probably more
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Mike in Connecticut, I really hope the fans he
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: puts that in quotes, stop crying over all the negativity
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: when there is really little to be positive about. This
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: team hasn't looked great for multiple years now. It's not
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: like complaints aren't warranted. We all want to see them succeed,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: and we are all critical because we love this team
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: and are sick of seeing lackluster performances and losses. I
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: don't know, however, anyone could be a fan and simply
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: ignore the issues we keep seeing. It's a trend at
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: this point.
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, I think we make it fun, though, don't
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: make it fun. We have some fun with it.
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: I think we try to, and I think that from
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: the fans perspective, And this is why, like this is
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: probably a deeper thing, doesn't need to be deep doped.
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: But like, I think there are two different kinds of fans,
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: and I think some fans just want to hear that
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: everything is great all the time. I'm not mocking anybody
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: here for a rare time that I'm not being snarky ball.
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: Some fans just want to hear about all the good
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: things and all the potential and all the hope and
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: all the positive right, and other fans want to hear
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: it straight. They want to hear exactly what you think
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: and they go from there. Now, neither one is right
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: or wrong. But from my perspective as a fan, okay,
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: not as covering the Patriots, because this is it's different
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: for us. It's a job and it's different. But when
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: I was a fan, I never wanted to hear that
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: everything was great because you know why, because when I
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: was hearing about you know, and I think back to
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: being a kid, like I think it was nineteen eighty
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: was one of those years that like everything was great
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: all and I was a kid, and you know, this
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: is awesome. They're gonna be stacked and they're gonna be loaded.
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: Then the season starts and you're like losing these games
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: and you're like devastated, like you crushed, Like I thought
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: they were gonna be awesome and they go two and fourteen,
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: Like how did I read all of this stuff all
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: during training camp, about all of these things that were great,
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: you know, and you come to find out it was
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: just nonsense. Like that to me is devastating as a
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: fan when I think I'm gonna be great and I'm not.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: Whereas if I you know, if I'm reading about like
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: last year, I thought the media as a whole did
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: a really good job of telling you there's some problems
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: on offense. This doesn't look right. So when the season
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: starts and it doesn't look right, you're not like hip
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: with a truck. It didn't look right. And I've been
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: reading for six weeks it doesn't look right. I feel
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: much better then. I'm not happy about it, but I
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: feel better that I would have if I was told
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: that everything was gonna be great.
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: You guys all have like real journalism backgrounds.
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: Do you think that that way?
- 1:49:57Speaker 7: I mean, but well, yeah you do. But I mean,
- 1:49:59Speaker 7: you know, you work for a newspaper. I mean, do
- 1:50:01Speaker 7: you think that that feeds into how you cover it?
- 1:50:03Speaker 7: Because I never did. And I always feel like when
- 1:50:05Speaker 7: I started blogging about the team, that I approached covering
- 1:50:08Speaker 7: the sports as I did being.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: On a team. And you know, you don't really sit
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: around on a team and be like, aren't we awesome
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: right now? Like being on a team is about what
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: do we have to get better at? What are we
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: working on? What are our weaknesses?
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Who's hurt?
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: How do we like?
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: Those are the things that I always love discussing.
- 1:50:23Speaker 7: And I mean, I guess in some ways you could
- 1:50:24Speaker 7: say it's negative because even when the team's playing bad good.
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: You're like, all right, how do we get better?
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: What do we you know?
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: And so that I don't know, it's just I think
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: we all kind of come at it from a different way.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Really, you know, you really don't take time to sit
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: back and congratulate yourself now when you're on it, moving on, right,
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Like you're always talking about what are the issues and
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: how do we you know?
- 1:50:41Speaker 14: Know?
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: Those are the top two things in Colorado. And I
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: think it's a little bit more prevalent now because of
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: the social media. I think there is so much of
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: that instant it's changed. You get that instant connection to
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: your readers and your listeners and whatnot, and they don't
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: want to hear it. A lot of them don't want
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: to hear the bad stuff. So I do think that
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: impact what you stress. Now we work for pages dot Com,
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: So it's kind of inherent that we're looking for things
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: that are a little bit better, right, you know, to
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: talk about We're not whyan, you know, but like it's
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: what you infante. Yeah, I'm going to emphasize like that
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: was like the greatest creative special teams player I've seen,
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: and I'm going to talk about that, not because like
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: I don't believe it, because I do believe it, but
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: you know, rather than saying, oh, geez, you know, they
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: really can't do this that and this one, you know,
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: maybe you find something that's a little bit more positive. Yeah,
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: but the rest of the media does that too, and
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: I don't understand why, but that's.
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: Usually how you are on a team too, And there
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: it is.
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: But that's like how many times did you have a
- 1:51:36Speaker 7: coach stand up and go, we got no weapons, we
- 1:51:39Speaker 7: can't we you know, we drafted bad.
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: You know, like you don't do that j Mora does, right,
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: we can't do Diddley Pooh on offense.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Lee and fall River. I'm so glad to hear Evan
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: talking about fullbacks. Who needs the element of surprise where
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: you just win the matchup. They can know what play
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: you're running, but it's still hard to stop a bulldozer
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: with a head start.
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: We talked about that.
- 1:52:03Speaker 7: Didn't really help help the Raiders last week against Buffalo,
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: But remember Ron.
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: And Conway, New Hampshire. Here we are with the Jets.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: No Rogers, but an awesome d line and Sauces a
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: great cornerback. Withstanding what has been observed so far this season,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: mistakes and the lack of running support is a huge problem.
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: I know the old line has had issues staying healthy,
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: which magnifies the turnovers a bad play calling. I read
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: Max quotes yesterday where he said I think we're twenty
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: yards away from being two to zero. I'm not sure
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: why he might feel that way. Judging from what I've seen,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: they aren't good enough offensively yet to cut consistently or
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: constantly start out games playing with a double digit deficit.
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of yelling in the other room. Now
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: the Jets now, the Jets of nowhere near the talent
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: level of either Philly in Dallas. I'm not sure about that.
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: I strongly disagree with Yeah.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: But my question for the panel today is a do
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: you think Pop Douglas will start? If so, how long
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: will he be in at wide receiver or will he
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: be stuck at returning kicks as punishment? And B do
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: you guys think this will be a game that could
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: jump start us with a win or will it crush
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: us with a loss if we win. I don't think
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: winning would make enough of a difference for our confidence
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: without Rogers at quarterback for the Jets.
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: Right, I disagree on that last point. It's all it
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: always helps to win.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: It depends on how it happens.
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: I well, maybe that's true.
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: But if Zach escape, if you escape, someone said, like
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: my fans side says like forty two to three. I
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: think they get a tremendous amount of confidence out of
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: something like if they if they march it up and
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: down the field against that defense.
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: Well take like take last year's game for example, Like
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: how much that's.
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: Not going to get the Marcus Like, Marcus, great job.
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: Either one of the two wins against the Jets. If
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: they have a repeat of it, that's the way they win.
- 1:53:47Speaker 7: I think you got to play well, and yeah, you
- 1:53:50Speaker 7: have to execute and do things you haven't done and
- 1:53:52Speaker 7: answer some of those questions that even asked for two
- 1:53:54Speaker 7: weeks about like hey, you got out there. You scored
- 1:53:56Speaker 7: a touchdown in your opening drive, like you know, great finish,
- 1:53:59Speaker 7: finished it off, you kneeled on you got the ball
- 1:54:01Speaker 7: back with a three point lead.
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: And you kneeled on it.
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: You know, those kind of things. And I do think
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: Tomorrio Douglas will be back. I don't think I don't
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: start or whatever, but I think.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: I guess Sarah Brant there again tomorrow. Douglas has, like
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: you know, week one, I think he played like forty
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: percent of the snaps and that seems about fair.
- 1:54:17Speaker 4: Back to normal.
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I just I do like I'm more as
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: you I'll know, I'm more of an ex's and o's
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: guy at the end of the day than than a
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: like blaming individual players for things. And I just I'll
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: continue to say, like, I don't think that the run
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: game issues are strictly on the offensive line. I really don't.
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: I And I think O'Brien said, you get I think
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: O'Brien said it to us yesterday that that Fangio did
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: some stuff up front in the game on Sunday night
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: that they weren't expecting and they didn't prepare well for it.
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: And on top of that, Yeah, I think that some
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: of the stylistic changes that they've made to the running
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: game have not worked for two years. Like I say
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: what you want about Matt Patricia, I know that everybody
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: just chalks that up to him being a bozo. But
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: at the end of the day, they tried to do
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: this last year with the run game and it didn't
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: work either. Like they got rid of the full back,
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: they tried to be more zone heavy, they tried to
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: run a lot of more one back stuff, and it's
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: also didn't work.
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: And people talk a lot about I mean, because Stevenson
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: ran for a thousand yards in average five yards to carry.
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: I mean on paper, that looks really good. They weren't
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: a great rushing team last year. You know, in league
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: wide average per carry as a team was was bottom
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: teen was great and Stevenson maximum. I think he led
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: the league in yards after contact last year, and that
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: number is has got smaller this year. Like, I think,
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: there's a lot of factors involved. One of them, to
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: Evan's point, it's not just you know everybody else.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: I think they'll scheme it up differently in the run game.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: I trust he came out and said that he knows
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: that there's issues with how they've been coaching the run game,
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: and I think they'll do something.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: Corey dllon what do you think was the best season
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: they had running the ball?
- 1:55:57Speaker 7: I mean people might say blonde, Yeah, a bunch of
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: touchdown you know runs, and then went off on the
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: Colts a couple of times. But I mean they kind
- 1:56:06Speaker 7: of just made it work with with somebody in James White,
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: you know, and when they got when they had to
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: pass the ball, they had James White, and twenty sixteen
- 1:56:13Speaker 7: he became, you know, really effective for four seasons.
- 1:56:16Speaker 3: Down the stretch. They were really good in eighteen, really
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: good Tony yeah, Rex, James dev One Yeah.
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: I mean they certainly were very productive of those last
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: two games against the Bills and the Jets right in
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: the playoffs and then the playoffs.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but like the identity of this team has hasn't
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: been running for a long time, even when they were good. No,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: you know, even Corey Dillon, I mean he was, unbelieve
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: had like sixteen hundred yards that year. Most of them
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: came in like the fourth quarter, they get lead, they put.
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: Him was great that year. He was that was blunt.
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: Blunt put up a lot of plastic yards. Corey Dillon
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: was the offense.
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: Yeah, you're right though, but it like makes me one
- 1:56:54Speaker 7: of them. Why do you draft Sony Michelle in the
- 1:56:55Speaker 7: first round?
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: You know, like the draft because Dion Lewis left, and
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: I think they they Lewis got arrested, they felt like
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: they needed like a you know, Dean Lewis led the
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: team in attempts the year before and touches.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: I think the years I never felt like they used
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: him maximized him. I mean we saw some glimpses in
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: like twenty fifteen, blown out of a cl.
- 1:57:15Speaker 7: He was never the same again in twenty fifteen against
- 1:57:19Speaker 7: the Cowboys that one running had where he liked seven
- 1:57:21Speaker 7: tackles to get in.
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: I was on that early, you know, like from short
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: stuff like stuff on OTAs. I was like, they get
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: something with this. Me and Andy were all in on
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: Deon Lewis. Lewis he was like a futures contract guy.
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: No one really knew much.
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: About him, and I was like injuries issues, like this
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: guy is going to be something.
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: Unfortunately, he blew out his A c O.
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he had that big play against the Cowboys,
- 1:57:44Speaker 5: he had a kick return. I think it's the Texas
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: in a stretch.
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: There where it was like what do we got here?
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: I mean this is amazing.
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it was beginning of a flat team right where
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: it was like he was catching passes, running the ball
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: like he was doing every kid. Guy, it's like Marshall fulku.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was unbelievable.
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: Then what are you get arrested for?
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: He was in He was in a and he wouldn't leave.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: He was getting belligerent, so they arrested him.
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: Yeah he's fine, he's just having a good time.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, friend, all right, that's gonna be it for
