- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning!
- 0:07Speaker 3: Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrewed Coors Light, cold
- 0:10Speaker 3: as the Rockies. Happy Tuesday, happy eve of the NFL season.
- 0:15Speaker 3: The Seahawks are kicking it off tomorrow night at Lumen
- 0:17Speaker 3: Field against the Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch. The
- 0:20Speaker 3: first game of the NFL season starts at 520. Practice
- 0:24Speaker 3: yesterday for the Seahawks, same situations with Nicky Manwari and
- 0:27Speaker 3: Ty Okada. Eamon Worre is still limited. Coach Mike McDonald
- 0:31Speaker 3: said the last couple days are the most work he's
- 0:32Speaker 3: done since the safety had arthroscopic knee surgery in July.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Okada did not practice again yesterday. New hamstring injury. Eamon
- 0:39Speaker 3: Worre and Okada seem unlikely to play tomorrow in the
- 0:41Speaker 3: NFL kickoff game against New England. Anthony Bell, Rodney Thomas
- 0:46Speaker 3: likely to get caught up in the practice squad. One
- 0:47Speaker 3: of them could start next to Julian Love in the
- 0:50Speaker 3: back end at safety. Starting right guard Anthony Bradford fully
- 0:53Speaker 3: practiced after being limited by a knee issue over the weekend.
- 0:56Speaker 3: The official game status injury report is due this afternoon.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Late last night, the Patriots reached agreement with Christian Gonzalez,
- 1:01Speaker 3: making him the highest-paid NFL cornerback. Four years, $ 135 million,
- 1:06Speaker 3: with $ 102 guaranteed, surpassing Debra Witherspoon's four-year $ 132, and $ 101
- 1:11Speaker 3: million guaranteed that the Seahawks signed Witherspoon to last month.
- 1:15Speaker 3: College football last night, SMU 27, Florida State 24, in
- 1:18Speaker 3: a game delayed by nearly two hours by a power
- 1:21Speaker 3: outage in the stadium in Tallahassee. College Football Week coming
- 1:24Speaker 3: up this weekend. The big game is No. 1 Ohio
- 1:26Speaker 3: State at No. 5 Texas Saturday night. The Southeastern Conference
- 1:30Speaker 3: this morning filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU,
- 1:33Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin, and the school president and athletic director. They're
- 1:36Speaker 3: seeking authority for the SEC to expel LSU from the league.
- 1:41Speaker 3: ESPN is reporting that the SEC is not expected to
- 1:45Speaker 3: take the action. It's more like a warning shot, and
- 1:47Speaker 3: that's the whole point, right? What's the SEC finally going
- 1:50Speaker 3: to do? They can threaten, they can threaten, but what
- 1:52Speaker 3: are they actually going to do is the whole point.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Well, I've been saying that about NCAA for quite a
- 1:57Speaker 4: while as well.
- 1:58Speaker 3: The Mariners come off day yesterday to begin a three-game
- 2:02Speaker 3: series at the yard in Soto tonight against Texas. Bryce
- 2:05Speaker 3: Miller apparently starting for the Mariners, though they've been somewhat...
- 2:08Speaker 3: coy about that. Now on to the Tuesday show. Football
- 2:11Speaker 3: season is upon us. Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre with you
- 2:15Speaker 3: on 93.3 KJRFM. Good morning, ma'am.
- 2:17Speaker 5: In many ways, it's upon us.
- 2:19Speaker 4: We already have a week of college football put under
- 2:21Speaker 4: our belts, and then tomorrow is the NFL.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I'm good because football is my jam.
- 2:27Speaker 3: It is. It's one of your jobs, in fact.
- 2:29Speaker 5: It is.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It is.
- 2:30Speaker 5: And as much as People might be unhappy with the
- 2:35Speaker 5: Apple Cup results.
- 2:36Speaker 4: I was happy with the way we played, facing probably
- 2:39Speaker 4: the most difficult opponent we will see this year.
- 2:42Speaker 3: It's also one of my jobs, the Seahawks beat writer
- 2:45Speaker 3: for the News Tribune. I'll be at the stadium a
- 2:47Speaker 3: long time tomorrow because at 10 a.m., the new owners
- 2:50Speaker 3: of the Seahawks are going to be formally introduced, officially introduced,
- 2:54Speaker 3: day one of their official day. They actually became officially
- 2:56Speaker 3: the owners over the weekend, about Friday or so. when
- 2:59Speaker 3: the bank cleared the $ 9. 61 billion sale from the estate
- 3:05Speaker 3: of Paul G. Allen to Vinod, Nehru, and Neil Kozla.
- 3:09Speaker 3: And they are going to be in the stadium tomorrow.
- 3:11Speaker 3: They're going to be at a press conference in the morning.
- 3:14Speaker 3: We're intending to carry that live. We're going to be
- 3:16Speaker 3: at Jimmy's on First tomorrow, right across the street from
- 3:18Speaker 3: the stadium. And then inside the stadium at 10 o'clock,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you should be hearing from the new owners of the
- 3:23Speaker 3: Seahawks in a press conference and answering some questions about
- 3:27Speaker 3: And then at 5 o'clock, well, it's more like 5.20
- 3:30Speaker 3: by the time they get going, well, a little before 5.20,
- 3:32Speaker 3: they'll unveil a banner that has been covered up all
- 3:36Speaker 3: preseason of a Super Bowl championship banner, the second one
- 3:39Speaker 3: in Seahawks history being unveiled tomorrow. There's going to be
- 3:43Speaker 3: a pregame concert out front.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Luke Bryan, I'm going to it. You are.
- 3:47Speaker 3: From USAA, sponsoring a concert out front in the North Lot.
- 3:50Speaker 5: You know who I take my instances.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Whenever USAA is involved, I am going.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Luke Bryan is going to be in the North Lot
- 3:57Speaker 3: of the stadium. Soundgarden is going to be playing at halftime.
- 4:00Speaker 3: The players at Seahawks headquarters this week have talked about
- 4:02Speaker 3: how now that they're in a game week, all that
- 4:05Speaker 3: other stuff that we're going to see is foreign to
- 4:08Speaker 3: them because they're just focusing on another week and they're
- 4:11Speaker 3: excited that they get back to their routine of preparing
- 4:14Speaker 3: for games. And that's just what they do. It's what
- 4:15Speaker 3: they're paid to do. So all the other hoo-ha is
- 4:18Speaker 3: mostly for us. I asked Mike McDonald yesterday if the
- 4:21Speaker 3: new owners are going to speak to the team or
- 4:23Speaker 3: there's been a put in the schedule opportunity for them
- 4:26Speaker 3: to address the players and coaches. And McDonald wisely said
- 4:30Speaker 3: they can do whatever they want. They're the bosses. But
- 4:33Speaker 3: it sounds like there's no scheduled time for that, at
- 4:36Speaker 3: least for now.
- 4:37Speaker 5: I like that.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I want them to, you know, the best bosses I've
- 4:40Speaker 4: ever had when they became new bosses in an area
- 4:44Speaker 4: I was working, sat back and got the lay of
- 4:47Speaker 4: the land before they inserted themselves in any way.
- 4:50Speaker 5: I mean, a hi, this is who we are.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Fine.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But I think that that's the best thing to do is,
- 4:56Speaker 4: you know, introduce yourself to the team.
- 4:58Speaker 6: Sure.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Maybe just pop in, pop out. Now you know us
- 5:02Speaker 4: and we're going to let you do your job.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Vinod Khosla has already said he's going to do just that.
- 5:06Speaker 3: He said they're going to listen and learn when they
- 5:08Speaker 3: first get here and that they would be foolish to
- 5:11Speaker 3: change the football operations of a team that just won
- 5:13Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. Vinod Khosla saying, how lucky are we
- 5:18Speaker 3: that we get to have a Super Bowl champion team
- 5:21Speaker 3: to take over rather than one that is dysfunctioned or
- 5:24Speaker 3: not performing or under everything. They're not a last place team.
- 5:28Speaker 3: He feels very, very fortunate to be taking an operation
- 5:31Speaker 3: that's pretty much turnkey. from a football standpoint. And so
- 5:35Speaker 3: far the indications are, he's going to take that look back, watch,
- 5:39Speaker 3: just wait and learn initially.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So that's all going on tomorrow.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Then the game itself, we're going to talk about the
- 5:47Speaker 3: situations the Seahawks have in the defensive secondary at safety
- 5:50Speaker 3: and a cornerback. To me though, the key of the
- 5:53Speaker 3: Superbowl rematch for Seattle that would make their second secondary
- 5:56Speaker 3: issue moot. We'll talk about what that key is. And
- 5:59Speaker 3: I think Mike McDonald's going to dial it up and,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I think they're going to be a similar result to
- 6:03Speaker 3: the Super Bowl myself.
- 6:05Speaker 5: I am 100% on your page on that one.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I didn't see significant improvements from the Patriots this offseason,
- 6:11Speaker 4: and the Seahawks have had so much retention and addition.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Through the draft.
- 6:15Speaker 3: They've changed their offensive line. They've been in center. They've
- 6:18Speaker 3: switched around positions, guard and tackles. Their left tackle, who
- 6:21Speaker 3: was injured in the Super Bowl, is healthy. They have A.J. Brown,
- 6:25Speaker 3: of course, in the trade from Philadelphia. I was on
- 6:27Speaker 3: a Boston podcast this morning. They were asking me, well,
- 6:30Speaker 3: how do you think Patriots can use A.J. Brown against
- 6:33Speaker 3: Mike McDonald's defense. And I told him, I don't think
- 6:36Speaker 3: it's going to matter because Drake May is not going
- 6:38Speaker 3: to have time to wait on A.J. Brown to get
- 6:39Speaker 3: down the field to hurt the Seahawks defense because the
- 6:42Speaker 3: Seahawks pass rush is going to do what it did
- 6:44Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl to Drake May in the offensive
- 6:47Speaker 3: line for the Patriots. That's how I think tomorrow is
- 6:48Speaker 3: going to go. That's the key to the game plan
- 6:50Speaker 3: for Mike McDonald's defense is pressuring Drake May. I just
- 6:53Speaker 3: don't see May and the Patriots driving down the field
- 6:56Speaker 3: multiple times for multiple touchdowns again like I didn't see it.
- 7:00Speaker 3: in February at the Super Bowl. We'll talk about all that.
- 7:03Speaker 3: We'll talk about tomorrow night being the debut for the Seahawks'
- 7:05Speaker 3: new offensive play caller, new offensive coordinator, Brian Fleury. Not
- 7:10Speaker 3: only has he never been an OC at any level,
- 7:13Speaker 3: the 47-year-old coach only became an offensive coach in 2020.
- 7:16Speaker 3: That was the year that Kyle Shanahan moved him from
- 7:19Speaker 3: defensive quality control with the 49ers to offensive quality control.
- 7:23Speaker 3: So only seven years as an offensive coach, and the
- 7:26Speaker 3: rest of his career has been on defense. Yet the Seahawks'
- 7:29Speaker 3: offensive players love him. You're going to hear from Cooper
- 7:31Speaker 3: Cupp at 1025 to explain to us why he in
- 7:34Speaker 3: particular really already loves Brian Fleury. He said he's doing a, quote,
- 7:38Speaker 3: unbelievable job as the offensive coordinator. Of course, the proof
- 7:42Speaker 3: of that will be starting for real tomorrow night in
- 7:44Speaker 3: the results of that offense. That's the fourth offensive coordinator
- 7:47Speaker 3: the Seahawks have had in four years, going back to
- 7:50Speaker 3: even before they had Shane Waldron and Ryan Grubb and
- 7:53Speaker 3: Clint Kubiak. And here we are with Brian Fleury. 11 o'clock,
- 7:57Speaker 3: we're going to hear from Coach Mike McDonald's final comments
- 7:59Speaker 3: before kickoff, including positive ones on Zach Charbonnet's recovery from
- 8:04Speaker 3: reconstructive knee surgery. He said that Charbonnet is on his
- 8:08Speaker 3: own timeline that we'll keep to ourselves. We know that
- 8:10Speaker 3: the minimum of that timeline is at least until mid-October
- 8:13Speaker 3: because he's on the physically unable to perform list. That's
- 8:15Speaker 3: the missing the first four weeks of the season. And Jess,
- 8:20Speaker 3: when he comes back, it's not like he's going to
- 8:22Speaker 3: just plug and play, get ready to roll. He's reconstructive
- 8:25Speaker 3: knee surgery hasn't been on a field since January when
- 8:27Speaker 3: he injured it in the playoff game against the 49ers.
- 8:29Speaker 3: So he's going to need some weeks to ramp up.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And I don't expect to see him until November.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, they're not going to rush him. Then, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 4: hopefully they don't have to when you have Price on
- 8:39Speaker 4: the field.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Well, yeah. And that's a whole nother issue is that Price,
- 8:42Speaker 3: of course, hasn't played since November 29th, the last game
- 8:45Speaker 3: that Notre Dame played last season against Stanford. They need
- 8:48Speaker 3: more than just three running backs. No team can get
- 8:51Speaker 3: through an NFL season with just three. I covered a
- 8:54Speaker 3: Seahawks team that had 18 different ball carriers one year,
- 8:57Speaker 3: and they brought Marshawn Lynch out of retirement on Christmas Eve.
- 8:59Speaker 3: That's how desperate they were for running backs. So, no,
- 9:03Speaker 3: they need more than, and they may not be able
- 9:04Speaker 3: to wait until Charbonnet comes back before. I still think
- 9:07Speaker 3: they are shopping for a veteran running back that they
- 9:10Speaker 3: may pick up through the season, and especially if there's
- 9:13Speaker 3: another one that happens to go down. They have Velas
- 9:15Speaker 3: Jones Jr. on the practice squad, of course. They have
- 9:18Speaker 3: Jakartier Wright, the preseason star, but they only have Well,
- 9:24Speaker 3: if you count George Helani as a proven back, which
- 9:27Speaker 3: he's only played a limited role on offense, he's been
- 9:30Speaker 3: more of a special teams player for them, that's it.
- 9:33Speaker 3: George Helani, Emmanuel Wilson had a 500-yard season last year
- 9:36Speaker 3: for Green Bay. They signed him in the offseason to
- 9:39Speaker 3: a very low-risk one-year contract. He's probably going to be
- 9:41Speaker 3: the short yardage back tomorrow. I'm expecting Jadarian Price to
- 9:44Speaker 3: be the lead back. Because Price is still learning the
- 9:48Speaker 3: pass game at the NFL level, pass blocking and catching,
- 9:51Speaker 3: I think George Helani may get more of the third
- 9:53Speaker 3: down snaps than Price tomorrow. And then short yardage when
- 9:57Speaker 3: they need a yard or two, I expect Emmanuel Wilson.
- 9:59Speaker 3: the new number 23, to come in. That'll be the
- 10:01Speaker 3: first time he debuts. He missed most of August with
- 10:04Speaker 3: a hamstring injury. So tons of questions on offense about
- 10:09Speaker 3: the position the guy that's going to run the ball
- 10:12Speaker 3: on a team predicated on the run. 50% of the
- 10:15Speaker 3: time they ran the ball last year in a pass-happy league.
- 10:18Speaker 3: That's the biggest question on the Seahawks offense heading into tomorrow.
- 10:21Speaker 3: 49451 on the Tacoma Dodge text line, my first question
- 10:24Speaker 3: of the day. How concerned are you the fact that
- 10:27Speaker 3: not only Jadarian Price, but nobody on the offense or
- 10:31Speaker 3: defense played during the preseason, and the fact that the
- 10:34Speaker 3: starters tomorrow will not have tackled anybody since Super Bowl
- 10:38Speaker 3: 60 on February the 8th? That is unusual. It's become
- 10:42Speaker 3: a trend in sports. Other teams that a lot of
- 10:45Speaker 3: starters don't play, but for entire units on both sides
- 10:47Speaker 3: of the ball not to play is somewhat unique, and
- 10:51Speaker 3: especially the lead running back situation. How do you feel
- 10:53Speaker 3: about Jedarian Price? What are you anxious or curious to see?
- 10:56Speaker 3: I use the word curious with the play caller, Brian Fleury,
- 10:59Speaker 3: and he corrected me and said, no, I don't say curious.
- 11:01Speaker 3: I say excited and anticipating the debut of Jedarian Price,
- 11:06Speaker 3: number eight tomorrow. He either got bigger pads or he
- 11:09Speaker 3: got bigger in the last couple weeks.
- 11:12Speaker 4: They do a good job of that. They feed him
- 11:14Speaker 4: pretty good. You know, that weight room's phenomenal. And yeah,
- 11:19Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 11:20Speaker 5: We'll see.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think he got bigger pads, to
- 11:22Speaker 4: be honest.
- 11:23Speaker 3: He looks bigger than he was even in the preseason
- 11:26Speaker 3: and in training camp practices. After you hear from Mike McDonald,
- 11:30Speaker 3: 11 o'clock, 1130, we'll read back your text and input
- 11:32Speaker 3: on the Tacoma Dodge Texan and your talkbacks on the
- 11:35Speaker 3: iHeartRadio app. You download that for free or go to 933KJR. com,
- 11:39Speaker 3: The Greg Bell Show, and you can Leave a 30-second
- 11:42Speaker 3: or shorter voicemail message. Jessamyn loves to play those back,
- 11:44Speaker 3: and we'll do that at 1130.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I love your voices.
- 11:47Speaker 3: You'll hear Jessamyn's voice at 1135 because it's her pick
- 11:50Speaker 3: today in Factor Fiction.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Oh, boy.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Here we go.
- 11:52Speaker 3: She's going NFL. We already know that.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Yes.
- 11:56Speaker 5: I'm very intentional. I do not touch college football.
- 11:59Speaker 3: So we'll go NFL at 1135 with our Factor Fiction

- 12:44Speaker 3: with Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM's Ashley Ryan. She's at

- 12:55Speaker 3: and Seahawks gear. Join Ashley and 93.3 KJR for the
- 13:00Speaker 3: season opener watch party Seahawks Patriots free at the Tulalip Amphitheater. Again,
- 13:03Speaker 3: kickoff is at 5 tomorrow. What are you most excited
- 13:09Speaker 3: or anticipating about this first game, Jessamyn?
- 13:13Speaker 4: I want to see if Sam Darnold is a little
- 13:15Speaker 4: more unleashed in his second meeting with the Patriots. I
- 13:19Speaker 4: want to see if he is not just told to
- 13:22Speaker 4: protect the ball. See what Brian Fleury has to bring
- 13:25Speaker 4: on the offensive side of things. That is my biggest thing,
- 13:29Speaker 4: is Brian Fleury's scheme, and I don't think he's going
- 13:32Speaker 4: to mess too much with success, but I want to
- 13:34Speaker 4: see some flashes of him having his own fingerprints on
- 13:37Speaker 4: this offense.
- 13:38Speaker 3: If it goes as training camp practices went for the starters,
- 13:42Speaker 3: including the joint practice in Nashville, I expect to see A.J. Barner,
- 13:46Speaker 3: the tight end, down the field quite a bit in
- 13:48Speaker 3: pass game. I expect to see Elijah Arroyo's special packages
- 13:51Speaker 3: of plays. In fact, Brian Fleury mentioned on Sunday they
- 13:55Speaker 3: have special packages of plays for Arroyo's skill set. He's
- 13:59Speaker 3: more of a stand-up, slot-type tight end that I think
- 14:02Speaker 3: you're going to see go down the field more his
- 14:03Speaker 3: second season. Of course, he only had 15 catches in
- 14:05Speaker 3: 12 games last year and some injuries. But between Arroyo
- 14:09Speaker 3: and Barner, they have tight end threats that can push
- 14:12Speaker 3: the defense down the middle. I think you're going to
- 14:14Speaker 3: see a lot of that. They're going to throw to Price.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I don't know how much in the first game, but
- 14:19Speaker 3: they threw to him a ton in training camp and
- 14:22Speaker 3: that joint practice. He had a couple touchdowns in short
- 14:24Speaker 3: yardage against the Titans in that It's the last only
- 14:27Speaker 3: time he's been against ones in his NFL career. So
- 14:29Speaker 3: you're going to see that, too. And you may see
- 14:31Speaker 3: even Price split out at times. We saw that during
- 14:34Speaker 3: training camp. Of course, Clint Kubiak and even Shane Waldron
- 14:37Speaker 3: before him did the same thing with Kenneth Walker. That
- 14:40Speaker 3: Boston show I was on this morning asked me the
- 14:42Speaker 3: difference between Kenneth Walker and Jadarian Price. And the best
- 14:46Speaker 3: thing I can say is that Price is a much
- 14:48Speaker 3: more decisive cutter. He doesn't wait for the blocks like
- 14:53Speaker 3: Le'Veon Bell style like Kenneth Walker did. And in the
- 14:56Speaker 3: outside zone, the Seahawks think they have a back in
- 14:59Speaker 3: Price that is exactly what an outside zone offense and
- 15:01Speaker 3: scheme needs to mesh the timing of the cut with
- 15:05Speaker 3: the blocks, not have to have the offensive line hold
- 15:08Speaker 3: their blocks so much as just zone blocking, get in
- 15:11Speaker 3: the way of a guy and let Price cut through.
- 15:13Speaker 3: When you talk to all the coaches about what they're
- 15:15Speaker 3: impressed most about Price, they said his decisiveness, how quickly
- 15:19Speaker 3: he cuts and he goes up the field. And that's
- 15:23Speaker 3: what they drafted him for. Again, the learning curve for
- 15:26Speaker 3: him is in the pass game because he wasn't even
- 15:28Speaker 3: the starting running back at Notre Dame again. It was
- 15:31Speaker 3: Jeremiah Love who was the third overall pick in the
- 15:33Speaker 3: draft by Arizona, was the starting back. So on third downs,
- 15:36Speaker 3: when Notre Dame needed first downs, it was often Love
- 15:38Speaker 3: in the game. Price was not. And if Price was
- 15:41Speaker 3: in the game, he wasn't pass-blocking. So that is a
- 15:45Speaker 3: huge part of his game he needs to improve. He's
- 15:47Speaker 3: admitted that. He's talked about it. And they have worked
- 15:49Speaker 3: a ton with him in pass-blocking and pass-catching. My hunch
- 15:54Speaker 3: in watching him in practices and training camp is they
- 15:57Speaker 3: aren't going to give him a full diet of third
- 15:59Speaker 3: down pass blocking and pass catching, and it's going to
- 16:02Speaker 3: be George Helani's responsibility, as I mentioned a minute ago.
- 16:05Speaker 3: That doesn't mean they won't throw on first and second
- 16:07Speaker 3: down to him. About Sam Darnold, he looks far more
- 16:12Speaker 3: comfortable than he did this time last year, especially with
- 16:15Speaker 3: Rashid Shahid. We've talked about how Shahid came from the
- 16:19Speaker 3: Saints last November and just merged into traffic with Darnold
- 16:22Speaker 3: and the rest of the offense. Didn't really know the
- 16:24Speaker 3: playbook to the extent he does now, of course. And
- 16:27Speaker 3: Darnold didn't know his speed. We saw it in the
- 16:29Speaker 3: NFC Championship game. We saw it in other times. Darnold
- 16:32Speaker 3: just underthrowing because Shahid outran his throws. And then they
- 16:37Speaker 3: went to Southern California in July and late June in
- 16:40Speaker 3: that break between minicamp and the start of training camp.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And down at Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo, California,
- 16:46Speaker 3: near where Sam Darnold grew up in San Clemente, near
- 16:49Speaker 3: where Rashid Shahid grew up in San Diego, they practiced
- 16:52Speaker 3: on a field. And you say, well, they're just throwing
- 16:54Speaker 3: against error. But Darnold got used to his speed. And
- 16:58Speaker 3: I saw in training camp, Darnold was throwing it as
- 17:02Speaker 3: far as he could throw it. And Rashid Shahid was
- 17:04Speaker 3: running to it and beating starting corners. Devin Witherspoon, Josh Jobe,
- 17:09Speaker 3: beating those guys on deep balls because Darnold had now
- 17:12Speaker 3: gauged his speed, Shahid's speed. So that's a component that
- 17:15Speaker 3: the Patriots didn't have to deal with in Super Bowl 60.
- 17:18Speaker 3: That was a much better governed, limited in the past game,
- 17:22Speaker 3: Rashid Shaheed in that Super Bowl compared to what he's
- 17:24Speaker 3: going to be this season and perhaps tomorrow night. I'm
- 17:28Speaker 3: not a fantasy football player. I know you are, Jessamyn.
- 17:30Speaker 3: You had your draft last night here for the show.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Yes, I had the first overall pick, and I was
- 17:35Speaker 4: very excited because all I wanted was Gibbs, and I
- 17:38Speaker 4: could have auto-drafted the rest of my draft, which I
- 17:40Speaker 4: accidentally did for two picks later on.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So it's Jameer Gibbs.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:44Speaker 3: And I'm told you took four quarterbacks.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Yeah, but those were later rounds. I was a little
- 17:51Speaker 5: bit weird in mine.
- 17:52Speaker 4: My auto-draft, because I accidentally fell asleep while I was
- 17:56Speaker 4: waiting for the draft to start.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I was just sitting there on my couch, and I
- 17:59Speaker 5: was like, okay, 7 o'clock.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I did back-to-back tight ends, round two to three,
- 18:04Speaker 4: because snake draft, you know, the first and the last
- 18:08Speaker 4: get those back-to-back drafts.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I did get an A, though, from ESPN, because we
- 18:13Speaker 5: were using the ESPN portal to draft. Oh, okay. So
- 18:16Speaker 5: you get a grade afterwards.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to make some moves.
- 18:22Speaker 5: I'll just say that. I did get the Seahawks defense.
- 18:25Speaker 5: I was happy about that.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of, as soon as I got Gibbs,
- 18:31Speaker 4: I threw everything else out the window.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Really?
- 18:35Speaker 4: Well, I just didn't care as much. I had them
- 18:38Speaker 4: all queued up for my first overall pick and everything.
- 18:40Speaker 4: And I had people texting me, hey, are you drafting?
- 18:42Speaker 3: Are you drafting?
- 18:43Speaker 5: I was napping.
- 18:44Speaker 4: That's what happened. I woke up and I go, oh, no.
- 18:48Speaker 4: As long as I got Gibbs. So, yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I'm going to have to make some roster moves to
- 18:55Speaker 5: make everything good. But the A grade I will take.
- 18:58Speaker 3: That's a whole realm I know nothing about. I've never
- 19:01Speaker 3: done it. I just... I don't have time to put
- 19:04Speaker 3: a roster, and I would always just default and miss
- 19:07Speaker 3: the time, the deadlines to submit a lineup or whatever
- 19:10Speaker 3: they do. I don't even know how it works.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Well, it's kind of like a fun thing.
- 19:13Speaker 4: If you're a scroller on your phone or something, you
- 19:15Speaker 4: just go, oh, let me check in on my lineup.
- 19:18Speaker 4: So what I like to do is see the predictions
- 19:22Speaker 4: beforehand and see the strength of schedule, who they're playing
- 19:26Speaker 4: and everything, and then I just toy with my roster
- 19:29Speaker 4: from there, which most people do.
- 19:31Speaker 5: I did not have a very robust strategy. I did
- 19:35Speaker 5: have it. I just slept through half of it.
- 19:41Speaker 3: It's totally foreign to me. And we've asked on the
- 19:43Speaker 3: show if you wanted to have fantasy football as a
- 19:45Speaker 3: part of the show. I've just, I've never done it.
- 19:47Speaker 3: It's not something I'm into. So that's why. I don't
- 19:50Speaker 3: talk about it much.
- 19:51Speaker 4: You know what it really is? It's a friend activity.
- 19:54Speaker 4: It's a colleague activity. We did it here at work.
- 19:56Speaker 5: It's fun. My family has one.
- 19:59Speaker 4: You know, and you're just talking throughout the entire season.
- 20:02Speaker 4: At times, maybe you wouldn't all be talking together and
- 20:06Speaker 4: chiding each other and ribbing each other and Oh, I'm
- 20:09Speaker 4: going up against sales guy A, you know.
- 20:12Speaker 5: And then, you know, we don't always talk all the time.
- 20:15Speaker 5: And I like that.
- 20:16Speaker 3: And the NFL loves it, of course, because then people
- 20:19Speaker 3: watch games they otherwise wouldn't watch.
- 20:22Speaker 5: It does bring in more of a crowd.
- 20:24Speaker 3: It does. They are all in on that. And that
- 20:26Speaker 3: helps for viewership and advertising rights and all of it.
- 20:29Speaker 3: So it all kicks off tomorrow, which is part of
- 20:31Speaker 3: the reason it's such a big deal. And then after
- 20:34Speaker 3: the Patriots-Seahawks tomorrow night, of course, Thursday, Friday, Australia time,
- 20:38Speaker 3: the 49ers, and the Rams. How about the Rams not
- 20:41Speaker 3: showing up in Australia until like now for a game
- 20:45Speaker 3: that's 36 hours from now or whatever it is?
- 20:47Speaker 5: That's a 16-hour flight.
- 20:50Speaker 3: I think it might be 20, I think. My son
- 20:53Speaker 3: did in New Zealand. It took him 20. And there's
- 20:57Speaker 3: a science to say you go in really late and
- 21:00Speaker 3: it doesn't affect your body as much and you get
- 21:02Speaker 3: out before the time, the jet lag. But I don't
- 21:05Speaker 3: know that that works for a 16, 18, 20-hour flight.
- 21:08Speaker 3: From Seattle or from Los Angeles to Melbourne. I mean,
- 21:13Speaker 3: the 49ers have been there for days already.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Have you heard what they did to Brandon Willis? No.
- 21:18Speaker 4: They caught him in Australia. So they made him do
- 21:22Speaker 4: that whole entire flight. 16 hours, according to this. Because
- 21:26Speaker 4: if you're flying from California, it's a little more of
- 21:28Speaker 4: a direct shot. So 16 hours. And then he got
- 21:32Speaker 4: cut and had to fly 16 hours back.
- 21:35Speaker 3: He got paid. He'd hope. He didn't play. No, he
- 21:43Speaker 3: didn't get, no.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 5: He was, I mean, it's just, he's a tight end.
- 21:49Speaker 5: They made room for a long snapper and he got
- 21:51Speaker 5: cut when he landed. That sucks. I'm sorry.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I just, I wanted to bring that to people's attention
- 21:59Speaker 4: because that, that, that just seems like a piss poor
- 22:03Speaker 4: move to do as a team.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Couldn't happen to a better team, I guess. A lot
- 22:06Speaker 3: of people in Seattle would say.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Ah, that's why I'm talking about it.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Up next, speaking of the 49ers, their old tight ends
- 22:12Speaker 3: coach is now the Seahawks' new offensive coordinator. What the
- 22:16Speaker 3: players are expecting tomorrow night in game one from Brian Fleury,
- 22:19Speaker 3: who's going to call the plays from the sideline. You're
- 22:22Speaker 3: going to hear from Cooper Cupp about why he is
- 22:26Speaker 3: wowed by Brian Fleury. Next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 22:48Speaker 3: The NFL season begins tomorrow night here in Seattle. It's
- 22:51Speaker 3: not going to be on Fox despite the music. It's
- 22:53Speaker 3: going to be on NBC. First Thursday night game.
- 22:55Speaker 5: I don't have their music.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I know.
- 22:56Speaker 5: But this one pops me up for some reason.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Is there some rights issue to their music or how
- 23:01Speaker 3: does that work?
- 23:02Speaker 5: No, I just like this one.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Okay. Okay.
- 23:04Speaker 2: That was a me choice.
- 23:05Speaker 3: The majority of Seahawks games, of course, are on Fox's
- 23:08Speaker 3: NFC network. But not tomorrow night. It'll be on NBC.
- 23:11Speaker 3: King 5 here locally. 5-20 kickoff. The Seahawks and the Patriots.
- 23:15Speaker 3: It's the first game for Brian Fleury. If you don't
- 23:19Speaker 3: count the preseason games when he wasn't playing any of
- 23:21Speaker 3: his starters. First game for Brian Fleury as the offensive
- 23:24Speaker 3: coordinator for the Seahawks. Seahawks' fourth offensive play caller in
- 23:27Speaker 3: four years. He's 47 years old. The last four seasons,
- 23:32Speaker 3: he was the tight ends coach for Kyle Shanahan and
- 23:34Speaker 3: the San Francisco 49ers. What people don't realize about him
- 23:37Speaker 3: is not only has he never been an offensive coordinator
- 23:39Speaker 3: before at any level, he was only an offensive coach
- 23:42Speaker 3: for the first time in 2020. He was a defensive
- 23:46Speaker 3: quality control assistant for a couple teams, the third one
- 23:49Speaker 3: being the 49ers. And then after 2019, they moved him
- 23:52Speaker 3: to the offensive quality control position. Then he went to
- 23:55Speaker 3: tight ends coach where he served the last four years.
- 23:57Speaker 3: He was also the run game coordinator for San Francisco
- 24:00Speaker 3: last year. Why is he here? Because he's seen as
- 24:03Speaker 3: a continuation of the Kyle Shanahan, Mike Shanahan outside zone
- 24:07Speaker 3: system that Clint Kubiak and John Benton, the offensive line coach,
- 24:10Speaker 3: installed last year, which worked so well, the Seahawks wanted
- 24:14Speaker 3: to run it back with the same system, even though
- 24:17Speaker 3: Kubiak left to be the Las Vegas Raiders head coach. Also,
- 24:21Speaker 3: there were some thoughts that Jake Peets and some others
- 24:23Speaker 3: on the staff might get promoted on the offensive staff
- 24:25Speaker 3: to coordinator, but Brian Fleury came in and blew away
- 24:29Speaker 3: Mike McDonald and John Schneider, with his preparedness on knowing
- 24:32Speaker 3: the Seahawks personnel and how he was going to use them.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And they were just shocked that a guy that was
- 24:37Speaker 3: not even in their building and was, in fact, in
- 24:39Speaker 3: a division rivals building for the last four or seven years,
- 24:42Speaker 3: knew so much about how he wanted to deal with
- 24:45Speaker 3: Seattle and how he wanted to employ and array the
- 24:48Speaker 3: weapons of Jackson Smith and Jigman, Cooper Cup, and A.J.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Barner and the running backs and how Sam Darnold, he
- 24:54Speaker 3: worked with him in San Francisco. All those are the
- 24:56Speaker 3: reasons that Brian Fleury is here today. I asked Brian
- 24:59Speaker 3: Fleury on Sunday, the offensive coordinator, because this is his
- 25:03Speaker 3: first gig, who has he sought for advice, if anyone,
- 25:07Speaker 3: on his first job here in the NFL, and this
- 25:09Speaker 3: is what he said. If anyone, Brian, have you sought
- 25:12Speaker 3: for advice on this whole experience? Unfortunately, the people I
- 25:16Speaker 3: would seek advice from aren't really interested in seeing us
- 25:18Speaker 3: do well, so not necessarily. Not many.
- 25:21Speaker 5: I love that answer. It's so NFL. It's so football.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Of course, knowing that he's coming from the 49ers and
- 25:30Speaker 3: Kyle Shanahan and those guys don't want to see Brian
- 25:32Speaker 3: Fleury succeed anymore because he's in Seattle. The Seahawks players
- 25:37Speaker 3: say that Fleury, communication is his biggest asset. He's clear
- 25:41Speaker 3: and he's direct. A great communicator for his offensive vision
- 25:45Speaker 3: of what he wants this offense to be. Cooper Cobb
- 25:49Speaker 3: says the new OC has done, quote, an unbelievable job.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Here's why the 33-year-old wide receiver, two-time Super Bowl champion,
- 25:56Speaker 3: says that about Brian Fleury.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I know you've asked me about Brian before, but just
- 26:00Speaker 1: from day one to now, how have you seen his
- 26:02Speaker 1: personality evolve with you guys and kind of that working relationship?
- 26:05Speaker 7: Yeah, no, it's been great. And it's super cool. He's
- 26:10Speaker 7: done an unbelievable job. And I think, you know, it's
- 26:13Speaker 7: cool to see, even just as the coaches, you know,
- 26:15Speaker 7: it's not, It's not an easy thing. It's not missed.
- 26:18Speaker 7: I think, you know, you have an OC come over.
- 26:19Speaker 7: He didn't bring anyone with him, right? He had to
- 26:22Speaker 7: install his vision to the coaches so they could go
- 26:25Speaker 7: out and install it to the players. And that's a
- 26:27Speaker 7: tough thing to do. But it's been really cool to
- 26:29Speaker 7: have that collaboration piece where you see the coaches, you
- 26:32Speaker 7: see the players, you see Brian all working together to
- 26:34Speaker 7: make sure we get the best, you know, plays out there, best,
- 26:37Speaker 7: you know, best putting guys in the best situations possible.
- 26:40Speaker 3: And he's done a great job.
- 26:42Speaker 8: Mike's talked about it. Every play caller has their first opportunity.
- 26:45Speaker 8: This is going to be his first chance at a
- 26:47Speaker 8: regular season game. But what have you seen even early
- 26:51Speaker 8: on that showed you this guy is ready for this.
- 26:53Speaker 3: As a player?
- 26:54Speaker 7: He definitely has an understanding of what's happening out on
- 26:58Speaker 7: the field.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Being able to see it, feel it.
- 27:00Speaker 7: I think a huge part of being a good play caller,
- 27:05Speaker 7: I've never been one, but just from my standpoint, is
- 27:08Speaker 7: guys that can visualize what they want to get done.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Your head's not down on the call sheet. Your head's
- 27:13Speaker 7: up seeing what's happening. And you're calling it based off of,
- 27:16Speaker 7: I know I want to get our offense into this
- 27:19Speaker 7: because of what I'm seeing. And I think, you know,
- 27:20Speaker 7: he's someone that can, he does that on a regular basis,
- 27:23Speaker 7: his understanding of the offense, how to set things up,
- 27:25Speaker 7: how to get guys in places where they can execute and,
- 27:29Speaker 7: you know, be able to attack, you know, the vulnerabilities
- 27:34Speaker 7: that he's seeing defensively. So I think that's early on,
- 27:37Speaker 7: seeing how he can do that as visualization on that
- 27:39Speaker 7: side of things. I mean, he'll call it off the
- 27:41Speaker 7: top of his head. That's difficult to do and, you know,
- 27:43Speaker 7: kind of shows you his understanding of what he's trying
- 27:46Speaker 7: to get done.
- 27:49Speaker 3: That's Cooper Cupp from a couple days ago talking about
- 27:51Speaker 3: his new offensive coordinator, Brian Fleury, and how clear he
- 27:54Speaker 3: is in his vision and how he just doesn't have
- 27:56Speaker 3: his head down looking at a play card and reading
- 27:58Speaker 3: off of script. That goes into the practices as well.
- 28:02Speaker 3: They have what they call call-it periods during Seahawks practices.
- 28:05Speaker 3: What's that? Well, instead of a script of standard practices,
- 28:09Speaker 3: we're going to run these 10 plays in this period.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Not in this call-it period, which the Seahawks do quite
- 28:14Speaker 3: a bit with their starters and did it all in
- 28:16Speaker 3: training camp. Call-it period is McDonald, first and 10, brings
- 28:21Speaker 3: his defense and puts whatever defense he wants. And then
- 28:24Speaker 3: he matches wits with Fleury like it's a game. And Fleury,
- 28:27Speaker 3: instead of scripting a play, goes down in distance and
- 28:31Speaker 3: looks that he's expecting from McDonald and calls a play
- 28:33Speaker 3: off of that. And then they go second and seven
- 28:35Speaker 3: or whatever the result of the first play was. And
- 28:38Speaker 3: McDonald plays off of that, and Fleury looks and says, okay,
- 28:40Speaker 3: we're second and seven at the minus 38. We're going
- 28:42Speaker 3: to do this.
- 28:44Speaker 2: It's not scripted.
- 28:45Speaker 3: The players don't know it. It gives Sam Donald autonomy
- 28:47Speaker 3: to change plays at the line like he would at
- 28:49Speaker 3: a game. And they say, the players say, that that
- 28:53Speaker 3: way of practicing is what prepared them better than risk
- 28:56Speaker 3: of injury in a preseason game did. And they did
- 28:59Speaker 3: the same thing in the joint practice against Tennessee, not
- 29:01Speaker 3: quite scripted, but just playing the game situations. And Cup's
- 29:05Speaker 3: point about Fleury is... A lot of times, you know,
- 29:08Speaker 3: when you watch a college or NFL game, they show
- 29:11Speaker 3: the play caller either in the booth or on the sidelines,
- 29:13Speaker 3: and all you see is the crown of his head
- 29:15Speaker 3: because he's looking down at his play card.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Right, right, right.
- 29:18Speaker 3: And a lot of times, coaches look at their play
- 29:20Speaker 3: card before the previous play is even over, and he's
- 29:23Speaker 3: moving on to the next play on his sheet. And
- 29:26Speaker 3: Cupp says that Fleury's vision is such that he doesn't
- 29:29Speaker 3: do that. He has the next play already envisioned in
- 29:32Speaker 3: his mind, and he doesn't have to go scroll down
- 29:33Speaker 3: a list, a spreadsheet of plays. And he has clarity
- 29:38Speaker 3: of say, okay, we're doing this. really waver in that,
- 29:41Speaker 3: and he goes with it. Now, of course, Darnold has
- 29:43Speaker 3: the autonomy at the line to change it if the
- 29:45Speaker 3: look is not what they expected. But it's that clarity
- 29:49Speaker 3: that Cup really says is the difference in a play caller.
- 29:54Speaker 3: especially one with no experience like Fleury. So this all
- 29:58Speaker 3: sounds great in August because there's nobody playing and they
- 30:01Speaker 3: haven't lost and nobody's trying to take the quarterback's head
- 30:04Speaker 3: off and starters haven't played and all that. So, of course,
- 30:07Speaker 3: the proof will be starting tomorrow night on how they perform.
- 30:11Speaker 3: But this is a dice roll. You've got an offensive
- 30:14Speaker 3: coordinator who's never done this before. It's the fourth OC
- 30:17Speaker 3: in four years here in Seattle. An offense based on
- 30:20Speaker 3: the run that wants to lead the league in rush
- 30:22Speaker 3: rate has a lead running back who hasn't played ever
- 30:25Speaker 3: in the NFL and hasn't played a game of any
- 30:27Speaker 3: kind since November at Notre Dame. Not to mention that
- 30:32Speaker 3: the sport's most attrited position, the most injured position, is
- 30:35Speaker 3: at running back. And they have only one semi-proven one
- 30:39Speaker 3: in George Helani. That's the risk they took in allowing
- 30:43Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker to go get his from Kansas City and
- 30:45Speaker 3: grab the bag with the Chiefs.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Is that a.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Concern to you? 49451, you're driving around, you're listening, wherever
- 30:52Speaker 3: you might be, and you think about the fact that
- 30:55Speaker 3: they have a first-time OC who's never done this before
- 30:58Speaker 3: and a first-time running back who hasn't played in 10 months.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Now you could say, well, just throw the ball over
- 31:03Speaker 3: the yard. That's not what Mike McDonald wants to do.
- 31:07Speaker 3: He could do that, and he might win games doing that,
- 31:09Speaker 3: throwing Sam Darnold to Smith and Jigba and Kupp and
- 31:12Speaker 3: Shahid and Barner But he wants to impose his will
- 31:15Speaker 3: on an opponent offensively as much as defensively. And that
- 31:18Speaker 3: means running the ball and physically pounding on teams to
- 31:22Speaker 3: wear them down in the second half. So you're not
- 31:24Speaker 3: going to see, unless the Seahawks turn the ball over
- 31:26Speaker 3: and fall behind multiple scores early in the game, you're
- 31:29Speaker 3: not going to see 40-plus passes from this team this year.
- 31:32Speaker 3: They don't want to play that way. And if they are,
- 31:34Speaker 3: they're chasing games they don't want to chase.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 31:38Speaker 3: How do you feel about 4-9-4-5-1? It's Comadog's text line.
- 31:40Speaker 2: The offense.
- 31:41Speaker 3: We've talked so much here in Seattle and the Pacific
- 31:43Speaker 3: Northwest about the defense, the top-ranked defense. Yeah, the offense
- 31:47Speaker 3: has the offensive player of the year in Smith and Jigwe.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they have weapons. Yeah, they have speed. They got questions.
- 31:55Speaker 3: They got all their starting offensive linemen back, but we
- 31:59Speaker 3: saw in the preseason what happens if those starting five
- 32:01Speaker 3: aren't playing up front. It's Civ City for the reserves
- 32:05Speaker 3: against reserves from the Cowboys, the Titans, and the Chiefs.
- 32:09Speaker 3: That's a big concern. How many NFL seasons have we
- 32:13Speaker 3: seen five starting offensive linemen play all 17 games? Almost none.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Josh Jones is a big factor as a swing tackle.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Who's the swing guard? Can Christian Haynes, who's played both
- 32:24Speaker 3: sides of guard but failed to win the job three
- 32:26Speaker 3: different times, Can he be that swing type of guard back?
- 32:29Speaker 3: Is Bo Stevens ready to step up if need be?
- 32:32Speaker 3: Is Oluwatimi, who had a chance to start and last
- 32:36Speaker 3: year got beaten out by Jalen Sundell for the starting
- 32:38Speaker 3: center spot, could he play if Sundell got hurt? If
- 32:44Speaker 3: one of the guards go down, I could see Sundell
- 32:46Speaker 3: moving a guard and they bring Oluwatimi in at center.
- 32:49Speaker 5: They do love that versatility on that offensive line.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Sundell has done that in the past, too. But they
- 32:54Speaker 3: have big question marks if one of those top five
- 32:57Speaker 3: offensive linemen get hurt. Anthony Bradford had a knee injury
- 33:00Speaker 3: this past week. He was back to full participation in
- 33:03Speaker 3: practice yesterday. I expect him to be listed as at
- 33:06Speaker 3: a minimum question, maybe not even on the injury report.
- 33:09Speaker 3: That comes out this afternoon. It's a different schedule. Usually
- 33:13Speaker 3: the injury game status report comes out two days before
- 33:16Speaker 3: the game. Because of a Wednesday game, the NFL allowed
- 33:19Speaker 3: the teams to move everything back a day. And that's
- 33:21Speaker 3: why McDonald's been so mum on injuries all week because
- 33:24Speaker 3: he hasn't had to say anything. And we're not going
- 33:26Speaker 3: to talk to him today, the day before the game.
- 33:28Speaker 3: So the injury report will come out without comment this afternoon.
- 33:32Speaker 3: I'm expecting it to say doubtful and maybe even out
- 33:36Speaker 3: for Nick Emanwuri. I'm expecting it to say doubtful for
- 33:39Speaker 3: Tai Okada.
- 33:41Speaker 2: There might be.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Some gamesmanship and they list Emanwuri as questionable. But I
- 33:45Speaker 3: don't expect him to play. Those are the two big
- 33:48Speaker 3: issues we're going to talk about coming up. about how
- 33:51Speaker 3: they backfill from that. The practice squad is the 70-man roster.
- 33:56Speaker 3: They talk about it all the time, right? Well, in
- 33:57Speaker 3: game one, the 70-man roster is going to get tested
- 34:00Speaker 3: because they probably are going to bring two guys up
- 34:01Speaker 3: from the practice squad. We'll introduce them to you, tell
- 34:05Speaker 3: you who DeAnthony Bell and Rodney Thomas are, what they
- 34:08Speaker 3: bring to the defense, because one of them might be
- 34:09Speaker 3: starting tomorrow night against New England. That's next on 93.3
- 34:12Speaker 3: KJR FM. That's Kurt Gowdy, 1970s NBC. I went old school, man. Man,
- 34:36Speaker 3: I grew up listening to that. That was like Steelers,
- 34:39Speaker 3: Browns at Three River Stadium, Raiders. Man, Ken Stabler. Kurt Gowdy,
- 34:48Speaker 3: John Brody. Don Meredith.
- 34:50Speaker 5: I'm bringing you down memory lane right now.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Oh, man. This is 1970s NBC. NBC tomorrow night has
- 34:58Speaker 3: the game. 520 Seahawks and Patriots, the NFL opener. Their music.
- 35:03Speaker 3: They should bring that music back, actually. 1135. Remember, we
- 35:06Speaker 3: knew Factor Fiction, the second installment of that series. Jessamyn
- 35:10Speaker 3: has the pick today. She's going to pick NFL. Perhaps
- 35:12Speaker 3: she'll pick a team that has one of her four
- 35:14Speaker 3: quarterbacks on it.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Okay.
- 35:16Speaker 3: On her fantasy team. Listen, listen.
- 35:18Speaker 5: I still got an A.
- 35:20Speaker 2: You're sticking with that.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Okay. Okay. Ashley made a point of telling me that
- 35:24Speaker 3: this morning that you drafted four quarterbacks.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:26Speaker 4: She was the one that told me that I drafted
- 35:28Speaker 4: back-to-back tight ends too.
- 35:30Speaker 5: And yes, I was so desperate for a quarterback. I
- 35:35Speaker 5: just went, go, go.
- 35:36Speaker 2: So who are the four?
- 35:36Speaker 5: Hold on. I have to look at it.
- 35:38Speaker 3: No, not at the top of my head. So we
- 35:43Speaker 3: told you Nicky Manwari is still limited in practice, hasn't
- 35:46Speaker 3: had a full practice since arthroscopic surgery on his ankle
- 35:48Speaker 3: in July. Ty Okada, starting safety, didn't practice again yesterday
- 35:53Speaker 3: with a hamstring issue. Hamstrings aren't like you just take
- 35:56Speaker 3: an ibuprofen and go play. That pretends that he's probably
- 36:00Speaker 3: not going to play tomorrow night. So it appears both
- 36:03Speaker 3: DeAnthony Bell and Rodney Thomas will be coming up elevated
- 36:05Speaker 3: from the practice squad for the game. with one of
- 36:08Speaker 3: them likely starting next to Julian Love in the back
- 36:10Speaker 3: of the Seahawks' defense. Here we go. This is the
- 36:12Speaker 3: 70-man roster the Seahawks always talk about, and in Week 1,
- 36:17Speaker 3: they're tapping into that, and they're going beyond the 53.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Bell's a former Browns starting safety. He played in 14
- 36:22Speaker 3: games for the Seahawks last year, mostly on special teams.
- 36:25Speaker 3: They tried to sneak him through waivers in late December,
- 36:28Speaker 3: and the Carolina Panthers claimed him for the final games
- 36:31Speaker 3: of last season. He actually watched the Super Bowl in
- 36:33Speaker 3: his home back here in Seattle last Well, his buddies
- 36:35Speaker 3: were down in Santa Clara winning it, and the Seahawks
- 36:38Speaker 3: players voted him to get a Super Bowl ring. And
- 36:41Speaker 3: so he has won, and he signed back to the
- 36:43Speaker 3: team in the offseason. Then the Seahawks cut him at
- 36:46Speaker 3: the end of training camp. I talked to his agent
- 36:48Speaker 3: last week. He was shopping for a place on the
- 36:50Speaker 3: 53 of another team, and none materialized. He talked to
- 36:53Speaker 3: the Giants. Anthony Bell did. He talked to the 49ers.
- 36:57Speaker 3: He talked to the Arizona Cardinals players. In fact, Anthony
- 36:59Speaker 3: Bell had a try workout with the Cardinals scheduled. On
- 37:03Speaker 3: the same day, he decided to come back and sign
- 37:05Speaker 3: with the Seahawks on the practice squad.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Why would he do that?
- 37:08Speaker 3: Because by the time he signed last weekend, the Seahawks
- 37:10Speaker 3: told him, you may play in week one because of
- 37:13Speaker 3: our safety injury situation. So yeah, we'll sign you to
- 37:16Speaker 3: the practice squad because we don't have any vacancies on
- 37:18Speaker 3: the 53-man roster. But there's a strong shot you're going
- 37:21Speaker 3: to play right away because we know you. We've had
- 37:23Speaker 3: you for two years, including in this training camp. So
- 37:26Speaker 3: that's why he signed. And he left his two-month-old baby
- 37:29Speaker 3: behind and had been home for a week and came
- 37:32Speaker 3: back to the practice squad. And here he is with
- 37:34Speaker 3: a chance to play tomorrow night, maybe even starting. McDonald,
- 37:37Speaker 3: when asked about Bell, what they like about him, he
- 37:39Speaker 3: said his physicality, his tackling. And more of a strong
- 37:42Speaker 3: safety type of a safety. And the free safety type
- 37:46Speaker 3: is Rodney Thomas, the second. He's a former starter with
- 37:49Speaker 3: the Indianapolis Colts. He started 26 games for the Colts
- 37:52Speaker 3: over three seasons from 2010. He's from Pittsburgh, a native
- 37:56Speaker 3: of Pittsburgh, graduated from Yale with a political science degree,
- 38:00Speaker 3: played mostly special teams for the Colts this past season,
- 38:03Speaker 3: and they let him go to be a free agent.
- 38:05Speaker 3: The Seahawks signed him this spring. He broke his hand
- 38:08Speaker 3: in training camp, Rodney Thomas did, missed a week plus.
- 38:12Speaker 3: He showed us his hand yesterday. He said surgeons put
- 38:14Speaker 3: a small screw in his hand, in his right hand,
- 38:17Speaker 3: but that he's fine now. Now he's on the practice squad.
- 38:21Speaker 3: The coaches said the reason they wanted him back is
- 38:22Speaker 3: that they like his athleticism and playing the ball in
- 38:25Speaker 3: pass coverage, so a different type of safety. McDonald may
- 38:29Speaker 3: bring them both up from the practice squad tomorrow and
- 38:31Speaker 3: play them both, depending on how the Patriots attack them.
- 38:35Speaker 3: I'm assuming that with Nicky Manwari unlikely to play, the
- 38:38Speaker 3: Patriots think they may be able to get some more
- 38:40Speaker 3: in the pass game across the middle than they did
- 38:42Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl, and they may not have as
- 38:44Speaker 3: much to worry about in blitzing from Manwari especially. The
- 38:49Speaker 3: trick for Mike McDonald tomorrow schematically is he really wants
- 38:53Speaker 3: to play Devin Witherspoon inside at nickel, but he's got
- 38:56Speaker 3: to have extra defensive backs on the field outside to
- 38:58Speaker 3: be able to do that. And so far, he hasn't
- 39:01Speaker 3: been able to find a third cornerback that he trusts.
- 39:03Speaker 3: That's why they went down the Tara and Arnold rabbit hole.
- 39:05Speaker 3: It's why they signed Trevon Diggs, who hasn't had a
- 39:07Speaker 3: full season since 2022. Nehemiah Pritchett is still on the roster,
- 39:11Speaker 3: but if he had won the job outright in training
- 39:13Speaker 3: camp when they tried to put him in that job
- 39:15Speaker 3: to start camp, They would have never done any of this.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Or Trevon Diggs situation. So he's an option tomorrow. Nehemiah Pritchett.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Diggs is an option. He's on the practice squad. He
- 39:27Speaker 3: could be called up.
- 39:29Speaker 1: But.
- 39:32Speaker 3: He only signed the last week of the preseason and
- 39:34Speaker 3: had not been in pads since January.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:37Speaker 3: I don't know if he's ready to go already, schematically
- 39:40Speaker 3: or physically.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I was going to ask you that question, too,
- 39:43Speaker 4: when it comes to, one, learning the playbook, two, being
- 39:46Speaker 4: in pads. How much do you think that this new
- 39:49Speaker 4: look team will rush people or allow them to work
- 39:55Speaker 4: their way in?
- 39:55Speaker 3: It's probably how desperate McDonald wants to put. Witherspoon inside
- 40:00Speaker 3: tomorrow against the Patriots. You saw what he did in
- 40:01Speaker 3: the Super Bowl from inside. He just wrecked their offensive line.
- 40:05Speaker 3: He was my Super Bowl MVP. I told you that story.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I voted for him.
- 40:08Speaker 5: Rightfully so.
- 40:09Speaker 3: He caused the decisive fumble that Nwosu scooped up for
- 40:13Speaker 3: the touchdown in the fourth quarter. If he's that desperate
- 40:17Speaker 3: to play Witherspoon inside like he wants to over the
- 40:19Speaker 3: course of this season, then yes, he'll call Diggs up
- 40:21Speaker 3: and be the third corner, I think. Or he'll roll
- 40:24Speaker 3: with Pritchett and see how long he can get there.
- 40:27Speaker 3: There's one more move he can make tomorrow schematically that
- 40:29Speaker 3: the Patriots have not seen, the NFL hasn't seen, and
- 40:34Speaker 3: that's three off-ball linebackers. That would be Tyrese Knight, a
- 40:38Speaker 3: star of training camp, who really got back into the
- 40:40Speaker 3: graces of McDonald and the coaches with how he performed
- 40:42Speaker 3: this training camp effort, losing his starting job after injury
- 40:45Speaker 3: and not performing as well as Drake Thomas. Well, Tyrese
- 40:49Speaker 3: Knight has earned himself some more opportunities with the starting defense,
- 40:52Speaker 3: and he may get him tomorrow night with Thomas, both
- 40:55Speaker 3: flanking Ernest Jones. And then you still have Derek Hall
- 40:58Speaker 3: and Demarcus Lawrence off the edge as your rush linebackers.
- 41:02Speaker 3: But McDonald has not done this. He's been the most
- 41:05Speaker 3: five and six defensive back defensive guy in the league
- 41:07Speaker 3: last year. And they only had two linebackers on the
- 41:10Speaker 3: field most times, Thomas and Jonas Jones. Talking about off-ball linebackers,
- 41:15Speaker 3: not pass rushing edge guys like Moffay or Hall or Lawrence.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Tomorrow night, I could see if the Patriots think they
- 41:23Speaker 3: can run without even worry that he– McDonald counters with
- 41:27Speaker 3: three linebackers and then that will eliminate his concern on
- 41:30Speaker 3: who the extra defensive back should be. But then that
- 41:33Speaker 3: would keep Witherspoon outside, wouldn't it? Because then he wouldn't
- 41:36Speaker 3: have an extra defensive back in the field. He'd have
- 41:38Speaker 3: more standard, probably likely four defensive backs on the field
- 41:41Speaker 3: with Witherspoon outside with Jobe. And that's not exactly where
- 41:44Speaker 3: he wants to feature Witherspoon the entire season. So is
- 41:48Speaker 3: McDonald going to play defensively like he intends to play
- 41:51Speaker 3: Witherspoon without his full caught momentum guys, without Eamon Worrey,
- 41:55Speaker 3: who doesn't look like he's going to play, and if
- 41:57Speaker 3: Okada can't play either, will McDonald still try to play
- 42:00Speaker 3: schematically the way he wants to? Or will he wait
- 42:03Speaker 3: for Imanwuri and or Okada to get back in before
- 42:07Speaker 3: he employs the defense as he exactly wants to? I
- 42:11Speaker 3: don't think any of this is going to end up
- 42:13Speaker 3: mattering on third down or when the game's on the
- 42:15Speaker 3: line because I think Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, Demarcus Lawrence,
- 42:20Speaker 3: Derek Hall are going to get after Drake May, much
- 42:22Speaker 3: like they did in the Super Bowl. And I just
- 42:24Speaker 3: don't see Drake May and the Patriots offensive line marching
- 42:28Speaker 3: down Lumen Field multiple times for touchdowns on long drives.
- 42:32Speaker 3: If the Seahawks don't turn the ball over, this is
- 42:35Speaker 3: always the big F, of course, but Sam Donnell led
- 42:37Speaker 3: the league in turnovers last year. If he does not
- 42:39Speaker 3: turn the ball over, like he did not at all
- 42:41Speaker 3: in the postseason— I don't see the Patriots driving down
- 42:44Speaker 3: the field and scoring multiple times, and I see the
- 42:46Speaker 3: Seahawks winning like a 20-10 type of game because of
- 42:50Speaker 3: their defense.
- 42:51Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 42:52Speaker 3: It'll be interesting to see the chess match because Game
- 42:54Speaker 3: 1s always have things that you haven't seen from those
- 42:56Speaker 3: teams before, right? Because you have the whole offseason to
- 42:58Speaker 3: change what your looks were from last year. One of
- 43:01Speaker 3: the looks I think the Seahawks are going to have
- 43:03Speaker 3: in their backpack at Mike McDonald is three off-ball linebackers.
- 43:06Speaker 5: 4-9-4-5-1.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I see some of you on the Tacoma Dodge text
- 43:09Speaker 3: line already saying, I'm glad you're not the coach because
- 43:12Speaker 3: you're overlooking an NFL opponent. And I'm just telling you
- 43:15Speaker 3: how I see the Seahawks defense against the Patriots.
- 43:17Speaker 5: You called it before the Super Bowl.
- 43:18Speaker 3: You said this.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Yes, you did.
- 43:20Speaker 3: You called it. You were like, they're going to boat
- 43:22Speaker 3: race them. I don't think the two teams have changed
- 43:25Speaker 3: that much that the results should change. Now, turnovers will
- 43:27Speaker 3: be a factor. Nicky Manwari not being on the field
- 43:30Speaker 3: will be a factor. But I just think this is
- 43:33Speaker 3: the result that's going to be similar, a defensive-dominated game. 49451,
- 43:36Speaker 3: how do you think this game is going to go?
- 43:37Speaker 3: We're going to read back your text at 1130. 1135,
- 43:40Speaker 3: Jessamyn will have our pick for Fact or Fiction, the
- 43:43Speaker 3: second edition of it. But up next, you'll hear from
- 43:45Speaker 3: Coach Mike McDonald, his final words before kickoff tomorrow, including
- 43:49Speaker 3: encouraging ones on Zach Charbonnet and his recovery from reconstructive
- 43:53Speaker 3: knee surgery. That's next on 93.3 KJRFM. Now, from the
- 44:07Speaker 3: Star Reynolds.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR FM Sports Headlines.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Thanks for being with us on a Tuesday. Headlines are
- 44:14Speaker 3: brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light. As cold as
- 44:17Speaker 3: the Rockies. Seahawks Patriots 520 tomorrow. Kickoff of the NFL season.
- 44:22Speaker 3: The Super Bowl champions in a rematch of Super Bowl
- 44:25Speaker 3: 60 with New England. Signs are Nick Emanuori and Ty
- 44:28Speaker 3: Okada are not going to play tomorrow night. Emanuori is
- 44:30Speaker 3: still limited, has not practiced fully since his surgery on
- 44:34Speaker 3: his arthroscopic surgery on his ankle in July. Mike McDonald
- 44:37Speaker 3: did say the last couple days are the most work
- 44:39Speaker 3: that the human war has done since that surgery. Okada
- 44:42Speaker 3: didn't practice again yesterday because of a new hamstring injury.
- 44:45Speaker 3: It's like DeAnthony Bell and Rodney Thomas are in line
- 44:48Speaker 3: to perhaps come up off the practice court. One of
- 44:49Speaker 3: them might start next to Julian Love at safety tomorrow night.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Starting right guard Anthony Bradford fully practiced yesterday after being
- 44:56Speaker 3: limited by a knee issue. The official game status injury
- 44:59Speaker 3: report is due out this afternoon. Late last night, the
- 45:02Speaker 3: Patriots reached agreement with Christian Gonzalez, making him the highest
- 45:05Speaker 3: paid NFL quarterback cornerback. Four years, $ 135 million, $ 102 million guaranteed,
- 45:12Speaker 3: surpassing Devin Witherspoon. Four years, $ 132 million, and $ 101 million guaranteed.
- 45:18Speaker 3: The Seahawks signed Witherspoon to last month. College football last night.
- 45:23Speaker 3: SMU 27 and Florida State 24. That game was delayed
- 45:26Speaker 3: nearly two hours by a power outage in Tallahassee. The
- 45:29Speaker 3: college football week coming up with the big one this
- 45:31Speaker 3: week is number one Ohio State at number five Texas
- 45:34Speaker 3: on Saturday night. This morning, the Southeastern Conference filed an
- 45:37Speaker 3: amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU. Lane Kiffin, its
- 45:41Speaker 3: athletic director and the school president, seeking the authority for
- 45:44Speaker 3: the SEC to expel LSU from the league. But ESPN
- 45:49Speaker 3: is reporting the SEC is not expected to take that action.
- 45:55Speaker 5: It's just.
- 45:55Speaker 3: What are they actually going to do is the point.
- 45:57Speaker 5: It's a bleep show, dude.
- 45:58Speaker 3: It's all, of course, because Lane Kiffin wants to play
- 46:01Speaker 3: NFL players, guys who were in NFL training camps a
- 46:04Speaker 3: couple weeks ago. He didn't put them on the roster
- 46:06Speaker 3: for the Clemson game, the LSU opener that they just
- 46:08Speaker 3: boat raced Clemson 51 to whatever that was, 51 to
- 46:11Speaker 3: 10 or something like that. Mariners are coming off an
- 46:15Speaker 3: off day. They got a three-game series at the yard
- 46:17Speaker 3: in Soto against Texas. Bryce Miller apparently starting for the Mariners,
- 46:21Speaker 3: though they've been coy about that. Mariners six out of
- 46:23Speaker 3: the AL West lead, five and a half out of
- 46:26Speaker 3: a wild card spot. There are 18 games left. Time
- 46:29Speaker 3: is running out. Time's just beginning for the Seahawks and
- 46:33Speaker 3: Mike McDonald. They've got the first of 17 games tomorrow night,
- 46:38Speaker 3: the first time they've played, the first time the starters
- 46:40Speaker 3: have played since we saw them win Super Bowl 60.
- 46:43Speaker 3: February the 8th, seven months ago almost to the day.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Seven months ago today, as a matter of fact, was
- 46:50Speaker 3: when they won the Super Bowl.
- 46:52Speaker 9: Wow.
- 46:53Speaker 5: Was that seven months ago?
- 46:54Speaker 3: Seven months ago. Wow.
- 46:55Speaker 5: It feels both recent and very distant at the same time.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yes, it does. And there's a new game tomorrow, a
- 47:01Speaker 3: new season beginning tomorrow night with the first game of
- 47:02Speaker 3: the season, of course, against New England. Mike McDonald spoke
- 47:05Speaker 3: yesterday to us out in Renton following practice. It's his
- 47:08Speaker 3: last comments before kickoff. And included in these, he's going
- 47:12Speaker 3: to be really coy here about Nicky Maury because he
- 47:14Speaker 3: can't be.
- 47:14Speaker 5: He has been, yes.
- 47:16Speaker 3: And he loves this. And you'll hear at the top,
- 47:17Speaker 3: he really likes this news reporting thing the NFL has
- 47:21Speaker 3: this week. But he also has some encouraging words about
- 47:23Speaker 3: Zach Charbonnet. This is Mike McDonald from yesterday.
- 47:26Speaker 10: Got a game pretty soon or what? Good to see everybody.
- 47:33Speaker 10: Some fun rules at the beginning of the season.
- 47:35Speaker 3: This is great.
- 47:35Speaker 10: This is a fun week. I get to not answer anything. So...
- 47:42Speaker 10: You can try if you want.
- 47:43Speaker 11: Mike, how's Nicky Man working?
- 47:49Speaker 9: Nick had his probably most work in the last couple days.
- 47:54Speaker 10: Looks great. He practiced limited today.
- 47:58Speaker 11: Ty O'Connor, is there anything you can.
- 48:01Speaker 10: Say on Ty? Yeah, Ty didn't practice today.
- 48:08Speaker 11: What kind of an off-season did Rodney Thomas have? What
- 48:10Speaker 11: do you feel like his readiness is to step in
- 48:12Speaker 11: if that's the direction you're going?
- 48:14Speaker 9: Rodney had a great off-season. We're really excited to be
- 48:17Speaker 9: able to acquire him in the off-season. He has a
- 48:20Speaker 9: lot of range, ball skills, physicality. I thought he played
- 48:23Speaker 9: really well in the games when he was out there,
- 48:26Speaker 9: and he's practiced great. Really, everybody that's practiced with us
- 48:34Speaker 9: and been here throughout camp has would be excited to
- 48:38Speaker 9: see them, you know, just excited where they're at. And
- 48:40Speaker 9: we feel like they could contribute to us playing great
- 48:43Speaker 9: football for us.
- 48:44Speaker 3: What's the Anthony Bell's greatest trait? Physicality.
- 48:48Speaker 10: Yeah, for sure. Physicality.
- 48:52Speaker 9: Dee Bell's also another one of those guys that's done
- 48:53Speaker 9: a great job since he's been here. I know his
- 48:55Speaker 9: journey's a little different and a little different than Rodney's. But, again, this,
- 49:01Speaker 9: you know, it's a 70-man roster and he's part of
- 49:04Speaker 9: the 70s.
- 49:05Speaker 10: So we're excited about that.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Yeah, Ty didn't practice today.
- 49:19Speaker 7: Mike, what have you seen from the guys that practiced
- 49:22Speaker 7: during the first game of the season?
- 49:24Speaker 9: Yeah, I thought we've had really, really great practices. Did
- 49:30Speaker 9: some really good things today. I thought our intent was right.
- 49:32Speaker 9: I think understanding how we want to practice on a Friday.
- 49:34Speaker 9: It's Friday today. How we want to practice on a
- 49:37Speaker 9: Friday day. with a lot of the guys that haven't
- 49:40Speaker 9: been here, just being aligned in terms of the speed.
- 49:43Speaker 9: It's a combination of, like, it's not as crazy of
- 49:45Speaker 9: a practice that we're looking for, but we're looking for
- 49:47Speaker 9: high-powered execution at the same time. So we're still kind
- 49:50Speaker 9: of connecting those dots to a certain extent, which is okay.
- 49:53Speaker 9: But I think the guys understand, like, the week's not over.
- 49:56Speaker 9: We still have opportunity to really nail some of these
- 50:01Speaker 9: details that we want to get to going into the game.
- 50:06Speaker 9: But very pleased with our intent. our attention to detail. Um,
- 50:09Speaker 9: but we're still not, uh, we're still not there yet.
- 50:11Speaker 9: We've got some things that some eyes to dot and
- 50:15Speaker 9: teased across, I think before, uh, before the game. Yeah,
- 50:29Speaker 9: I think, uh, I think we saw the same things
- 50:31Speaker 9: you did, Bob, but just, uh, he's, he's, um, Things
- 50:35Speaker 9: have opened up. Things have come out of his shell
- 50:37Speaker 9: a bit since he got here. I understand how we operate.
- 50:45Speaker 9: Since he started practicing again, he's put himself in a
- 50:47Speaker 9: great position. He's doing a great job.
- 50:50Speaker 6: Obviously, you've been working for a while.
- 50:58Speaker 10: How is Zach doing? Zach's doing awesome.
- 51:03Speaker 9: I think He has a certain timetable in his mind that,
- 51:07Speaker 9: which we won't divulge right now, but he has a
- 51:10Speaker 9: certain timetable that he's targeting and he's on target for
- 51:14Speaker 9: that timetable.
- 51:15Speaker 10: Which is great.
- 51:15Speaker 9: It's an aggressive timetable from if you just kind of
- 51:19Speaker 9: put the whole thing into perspective. I think that shows
- 51:22Speaker 9: what type of guy he is, just being able to
- 51:24Speaker 9: come back and work through that process and get over those.
- 51:27Speaker 10: Hurdles that it takes to put himself in this position. But,
- 51:30Speaker 10: I mean, it looks awesome. It looks awesome going through it.
- 51:33Speaker 9: Whenever I see him doing anything, he looks pretty dang good. Yeah,
- 51:47Speaker 9: it's business as usual. Really, that's really our directive to
- 51:52Speaker 9: our team is the way we want to train, the
- 51:54Speaker 9: way we want to play games. There's a lot of
- 51:57Speaker 9: circumstance that comes around with this game, as did our
- 51:59Speaker 9: last game, but our focus has to stay on who
- 52:03Speaker 9: we are and how we play ball. If we start
- 52:06Speaker 9: getting affected by all the things around it, we're.
- 52:10Speaker 10: Not going to be the best football team we can be.
- 52:13Speaker 9: He's right there in terms of having the right type
- 52:16Speaker 9: of attitude on the approach. I feel like he's in
- 52:19Speaker 9: a really good place. Again, I'm just excited to see
- 52:22Speaker 9: him play.
- 52:23Speaker 12: Talked not about the injured guys that much, but for
- 52:27Speaker 12: the guys that you do have, having Tyrese Knight step forward,
- 52:30Speaker 12: being able to go to five-man lines and the edges.
- 52:32Speaker 3: That you've got, what are you looking forward to seeing
- 52:35Speaker 3: from some of those guys that can step in and
- 52:36Speaker 3: take some of those reps?
- 52:39Speaker 9: Well, I would say that we have a lot of
- 52:42Speaker 9: guys that have earned opportunities to play, and we spent
- 52:47Speaker 9: a lot of the offseason getting them ready to play.
- 52:49Speaker 9: So whoever's ready to play is going to. We have
- 52:52Speaker 9: a lot of faith in playing good football for us.
- 52:54Speaker 9: However we deploy them, again, we're two different football teams
- 52:59Speaker 9: right now. For us to dust off the last game
- 53:03Speaker 9: plan and to say that's what we're going to run
- 53:05Speaker 9: is overly irresponsible, nor is it the best thing for
- 53:10Speaker 9: this team. We have a game plan that we're going
- 53:14Speaker 9: to try to execute it to the best of our ability.
- 53:17Speaker 9: As coaches, we have to do a great job of
- 53:20Speaker 9: understanding how the game is being played and being able
- 53:21Speaker 9: to adjust More so probably than any other game in
- 53:24Speaker 9: the season because of just being week one and both
- 53:29Speaker 9: teams are kind of, they haven't had to show their
- 53:32Speaker 9: cards yet.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Christian Haynes is in his third year looking out. What
- 53:35Speaker 3: do you kind of think of his camp and how
- 53:37Speaker 3: he's progressed after getting a couple games under.
- 53:41Speaker 10: His belt last year?
- 53:41Speaker 9: We've had really good competition at the guard position. And
- 53:45Speaker 9: there's several guys on our team that have done a
- 53:48Speaker 9: great job, and Christian's one of them. I think he's
- 53:50Speaker 9: really taken his game to another level, so. He should
- 53:52Speaker 9: be proud of himself. He's done a really nice job.
- 53:55Speaker 12: Coach, are you prepared to work with Adam Dirty for
- 53:58Speaker 12: the third season?
- 54:00Speaker 2: Could you discuss the qualities of your British defensive coordinator?
- 54:03Speaker 10: Can I discuss the what?
- 54:04Speaker 3: The qualities.
- 54:05Speaker 10: I had to miss at least one question, at least
- 54:08Speaker 10: one word. I'd love to, yeah.
- 54:12Speaker 9: AD, he's a cornerstone piece of our club. He's been
- 54:18Speaker 9: there every step of the way since day one. And, uh,
- 54:23Speaker 9: he's a heck of a football coach. He really is
- 54:26Speaker 9: how he sees the game. I think compliments how I
- 54:29Speaker 9: see it in terms of how we've, how we've built
- 54:30Speaker 9: our team and built our scheme. And, uh, it's probably
- 54:35Speaker 9: his best quality is just being a connector and a
- 54:38Speaker 9: leader and communicator. There's three, not just one, but, uh,
- 54:42Speaker 9: we love him. He's a, he's done a tremendous job and, uh,
- 54:45Speaker 9: we trust him. You know, he's, he's, he's running the
- 54:47Speaker 9: operation 99% of the time. And, uh, One of the
- 54:52Speaker 9: cool things about AD is I think if he came
- 54:54Speaker 9: into our defensive team room, I don't know if he'd
- 54:57Speaker 9: be able to figure out who the coordinator is or
- 55:00Speaker 9: who the DV coach is or who the head coach is.
- 55:02Speaker 9: It's just kind of everybody pulling in the same direction.
- 55:04Speaker 9: He definitely sets the tone for that feeling, and that's
- 55:07Speaker 9: what we're trying to create.
- 55:08Speaker 10: So I can't say enough good things about him.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Mike, since the Dallas preseason game, where have you guys
- 55:14Speaker 3: grown operationally, the things you want to do?
- 55:17Speaker 9: Yeah, the guys have been on it. They've done a
- 55:18Speaker 9: really nice job, coaches, players included. Sam's really driving the
- 55:22Speaker 9: bus on that front. Offensive line's bought in.
- 55:26Speaker 10: They see it. I'm excited to see them do their thing.
- 55:30Speaker 3: How's Brian Fleury growing in that regard?
- 55:33Speaker 9: Well, he has a clear vision on what he expects
- 55:37Speaker 9: and he communicates in his way, which is effective. Anytime
- 55:44Speaker 9: we see something that we want to improve on and
- 55:46Speaker 9: we put our intention behind it, you want to see
- 55:51Speaker 9: you want to see growth, you know, from really everybody
- 55:53Speaker 9: involved and, and Brian really helped push that offensively.
- 55:56Speaker 10: And so I appreciate the way he went about it.
- 55:58Speaker 12: You guys have a lot of continuity with the coaching
- 56:00Speaker 12: staff and with the players.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Where do you feel that helps the most in terms
- 56:05Speaker 3: of the menu?
- 56:05Speaker 12: You can call the time that it gets, it takes
- 56:08Speaker 12: to get a game plan in.
- 56:09Speaker 11: Where do you see the difference?
- 56:11Speaker 10: I don't know how much quicker it's got on defense.
- 56:13Speaker 9: Uh, I do, I do think, I do think we understand, um,
- 56:21Speaker 9: the things that we want to get to sooner. Um,
- 56:26Speaker 9: so just, it's just a shared understanding about how we
- 56:29Speaker 9: do all the things like what schematics we want to
- 56:31Speaker 9: get to, what answers do we feel like we want to,
- 56:34Speaker 9: maybe we find something that we need to be able
- 56:36Speaker 9: to fix, how we can get that coached. There was just,
- 56:38Speaker 9: there was a cool moment the other day where we
- 56:40Speaker 9: were in special teams and I told our staff this,
- 56:43Speaker 9: but I just felt like it's probably, this is probably
- 56:45Speaker 9: a good time to share it. But it's like during
- 56:47Speaker 9: special teams period, the guys, you know, we have, we
- 56:49Speaker 9: have a, operating procedure on who needs to be out
- 56:51Speaker 9: there and when, and all that type of stuff at
- 56:53Speaker 9: the beginning of practice. But like our entire defensive staff,
- 56:56Speaker 9: I think might've been working with another part of like
- 56:59Speaker 9: another position, like a different position group than.
- 57:01Speaker 10: They normally work with.
- 57:02Speaker 9: And so it's just this really cool, uh, synergistic 12
- 57:05Speaker 9: was one type of idea of, Hey, we coach everybody
- 57:08Speaker 9: all the time. Um, there's no, again, there's no such
- 57:12Speaker 9: thing as like, Oh, we only farm each other's land.
- 57:14Speaker 9: You know, it's, it's a team effort. And, uh, It's
- 57:16Speaker 9: just a great attitude, and the players are getting developed,
- 57:20Speaker 9: and they're learning stuff. It was a really cool moment
- 57:23Speaker 9: that I was just like, man, this is awesome.
- 57:25Speaker 3: How important is it to you to have coaches with
- 57:27Speaker 3: cross-distance stuff? You could have a tight ends coach be
- 57:30Speaker 3: a tight ends coach for 30 years as opposed to somebody.
- 57:32Speaker 10: No, not that important.
- 57:33Speaker 9: It's really just a spirit of how you go. You
- 57:35Speaker 9: just got to be one of us, man. You can't
- 57:38Speaker 9: just operate in a silo. Don't just close your door
- 57:40Speaker 9: and worry about your guys.
- 57:41Speaker 10: That doesn't go over here pretty well.
- 57:44Speaker 12: You mentioned that there's sort of an unknown element in
- 57:47Speaker 12: the opener where teams haven't shown their cards and there's
- 57:49Speaker 12: uniqueness to that. So how do you prepare yourself to
- 57:52Speaker 12: be able to overcome the unknown element where the opener
- 57:55Speaker 12: is a little bit different maybe than the two.
- 57:57Speaker 6: Or three or four?
- 57:58Speaker 9: Well, I think you have to stick to your core
- 58:00Speaker 9: competencies at the beginning of the game. And then, you know,
- 58:04Speaker 9: you're going to build out some possible answers as it goes,
- 58:07Speaker 9: but it's just really having an understanding of what you
- 58:12Speaker 9: can do, who you guys are, how you feel like
- 58:15Speaker 9: what they're trying to do and then, then get to it.
- 58:18Speaker 9: You're doing that every game anyways, but I think the
- 58:20Speaker 9: first game it's, it's just, it is different just probably
- 58:24Speaker 9: because it's just, you know, they could do anything.
- 58:26Speaker 10: You just got to be ready for it.
- 58:28Speaker 3: What are you looking forward to most?
- 58:33Speaker 9: I don't really thought of, I mean, it's Friday right now.
- 58:36Speaker 9: Right now I'm thinking about the things I'm doing right
- 58:38Speaker 9: after this and then working on a little red zone and,
- 58:43Speaker 9: and then getting home.
- 58:44Speaker 3: Should he build into the schedule that the new owners get.
- 58:47Speaker 9: In front of the team at any point?
- 58:49Speaker 10: It's up to them. It's up to them.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Mike McDonald in his final public comments before kickoff of
- 58:57Speaker 3: the NFL season tomorrow night at Lumen Field Seahawks and Patriots.
- 59:00Speaker 3: You heard him say about Zach Charbonnet that he looks
- 59:03Speaker 3: awesome in everything he does. His own timeline, he said
- 59:07Speaker 3: he won't divulge. Well, there is some. NFL-required guardrails on
- 59:12Speaker 3: that timeline. It can't be any earlier than four weeks
- 59:15Speaker 3: into the season. The first four weeks, Charbonnet must miss
- 59:18Speaker 3: because he's on the physically unable to perform list. He
- 59:20Speaker 3: could be out longer than that, but at least four weeks.
- 59:24Speaker 3: And then when he comes back, as we mentioned earlier
- 59:26Speaker 3: in the show, he's not just going to go step
- 59:27Speaker 3: right onto the field and start. He's going to have
- 59:29Speaker 3: to take a ramp-up period in a while to come
- 59:31Speaker 3: back from reconstructive knee surgery. He hasn't been on the
- 59:34Speaker 3: field since January, so if it's until mid-October, that would
- 59:39Speaker 3: only be eight months following his surgery, which is on
- 59:41Speaker 3: the quicker end of ACL tears and reconstructive surgery returns.
- 59:47Speaker 3: But McDonald's saying that everything he's doing so far, Charbonnet
- 59:49Speaker 3: looks pretty dang good, in his words.
- 59:53Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 59:54Speaker 3: That sounds like a mid-season acquisition to me. No one's
- 59:59Speaker 3: talking about it or thinking about it except probably Zach Charbonnet.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: This is the final year of his contract. His rookie
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: deal ends after this year as a second round pick.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: They don't have the option to keep him as a
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: fifth year option because he's not a first round pick.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: So they have a decision to make at the end
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: of this season. How far is Jadarian Price going to
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: show them by the end of the season on whether
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: they can roll with him as their lead back? Would
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: they make an offer to Zach Charbonnet to return? Well,
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: he's going to have to make some hay in the
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: latter half of this season if he does come back,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: and we don't even know, and he doesn't even know,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: if he'll be the same back he was before the surgery.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: So a lot of questions personally and team-wise with Zach Charbonnet,
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: but you heard the coach say all well so far
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: in the progress front. Again, if you missed me talking
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: about it earlier, the injury report, the game status on
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Nick Emanwuri and Tai Okada due out this afternoon. That's
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: usually around 1 o'clock or so. The NFL requires it.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: That doesn't mean the Seahawks always release it at that time.
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: It's usually right at the deadline. They are very wait
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: until the last minute.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Or well after it at times, yes. They've been playing
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: cat and mouse with the Patriots on their practice report,
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: participation reports. It was like 4.30 or 5 o'clock on
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Labor Day or whatever day. I can't lose track of
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: my days on Sunday and Monday. And the Patriots were
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: waiting for the Seahawks to put theirs out. And so
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: it was coming out at 8 p.m. Eastern. It's this
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: silly little game that these teams play of not releasing
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: their practice reports right after the practices. But suffice to
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: say that his signs are toward Nicky Manwari and Ty
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Okada not playing. And that means DeAnthony Bell and perhaps
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: Rodney Thomas, the former starter for the Colts, coming up.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: 49451 is the Comodage text line. When we come back,
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: we'll go to the text line and read back your text.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Some of you saying you're concerned about this opener. A
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: couple of them saying the Patriots might actually win the game.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: A couple predicting a Patriots win tomorrow on the Seattle
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: radio station text line.
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: I don't see it.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: 1135, fact or fiction, it's Jessamyn's chance to have a
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: pick and your chance to agree or disagree with her
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: on an NFL game. She's going NFL. All that's coming
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: up next. Ian Furness is in the house. He's going
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: to join us at 1145 to tell us what's on
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: his show, 12 until 3 on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: Hey jess hey greg hey jess i would like your
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: opinion on ian's take yesterday that now that you are
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: no longer on the show that they will succeed at
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: factor fiction that was his thing he said that you
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: got you were holding him back the show back i
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: don't think so i think it's him but what is your.
- 1:02:49Speaker 11: Opinion on this well.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: That is exactly gentle ribbing between the shows he is
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: saying it because he misses me that is why and
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: you know it's that tough love I miss you thing
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: so I'm gonna throw some shade at you thing it's
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: like he feels like you know a defeated.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Ex how did his show do last year I think they.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: Did pretty well I only had one pick a week
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: so there's no way I.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Could hold them back hell Well, that won't be the
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: case this time.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: Nope, I have two.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Two a week, Tuesday and Thursday. Jessamyn will have it
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: at 11.35. Right now, until then, you've got welcome talkbacks
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: at any time, and you know Jessamyn will throw those in.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: Tacoma Dodge text line is 49451. 425 says, It sucks
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: the Hawks can't win by more than three points tomorrow
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: because Ian Furness is always wrong and picked him to cover.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: The spread is three. The Hawks favored by three or three.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: And a half.
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: I actually... I wanted to pick that, but Ian already
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: did yesterday.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: So, Ian, we have the same exact mind frame. So
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: I'm not the one holding you back.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: 206 says, kudos to Western Michigan. I'm surprised Michigan didn't
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: say there was a clause in their contract giving them
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: the option to add one second after the clock runs out.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: That was highway robbery. The AP Top 25 came out
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: this morning. Michigan fell out of it for that win
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: that wasn't a win against Western Michigan. And Virginia enters
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: at 25. The Washington Huskies drop two spots from 17
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: to 19 after their difficult Apple Cup win on Sunday
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: at Husky Stadium. 206 says Hawks will dominate defensively again.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: The Pats are trash.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Hawks' offense might take a minute to get rolling, seems
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: to every year, but they'll do more than enough for
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: a comfortable win. 801 says it's going to be a
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: close game, being primetime, and as much as some of
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: the Patriots players say it's not a revenge game, it's
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: going to be tight.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: I don't think that's a revenge game in any way, shape,
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: or form. The Seahawks controlled the entire game.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but the Patriots are probably smarting from that if
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: there's the players that are returning.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: I don't know. It's not the same as the Arizona
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: Super Bowl. I'll just say that. It's not that kind
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: of game.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: No, that's true.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: And this past Super Bowl wasn't either.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: It's a whole new team. Whole new coaching staff.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not sure tangibly that the game, the Super Bowl,
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: is going to matter tomorrow night. Not even in skiing,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: not in emotions. I mean, especially in another season, but
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: seven months ago. 30360 says, Flurry and Price are sponges
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: at learning what McDonald wants to put on the field.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Offense is going to surprise a lot of people and
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: quiet the doubters. 715, and John and Mike we trust,
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: meaning the safety situation, I believe. 2-5-3, I think Price
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: is going to be a sleeper pick. I'm assuming that's
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: fantasy football talk. I think he's going to tear it
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: up this season. He's fresh, he's rested, and he has
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: something to prove. 2-5-3, where is McIntosh? He is an
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: unsigned free agent. The Seahawks waived him in the summer.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: He was coming back from reconstructive knee surgery the previous July,
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: July 2025, and the Seahawks waived him. They didn't think
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: he was going to be back, and they let him go.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: So he's, to my knowledge, still unsigned. 425 says, what
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: do people expect players to say about a new OC
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: in reference to Cooper Cupp's comments about Brian Fleury? They
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: said the same thing about Grubb. Well, no, they didn't.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: They didn't say that Grubb had vision and had a
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: clarity of communication. In fact, Brian Grubb, for as innovative
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: as he is and still is for Alabama, he was everywhere.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: He was trying to do everything. And, I mean, inside zone,
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: outside zone, gap scheme, trap, pulling, just on the offensive
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: lines blocking schemes, it was everywhere. Ryan Grubb and Scott
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: Huff and the UW system that came to the Seahawks
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: that season, they were trying to do everything. And the
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: offensive linemen said they were masters of none. And last year,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: the offensive linemen told me the biggest difference between John
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: Benton and the Scott Huff-Ryan Grubb offense was that John
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Benton said, we're outside zone. Just get good at outside zone.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: And they focused on one thing, they got good at it,
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: and voila. Their offensive line problems of 10 years largely
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: dissipated last year. Now, there's still depth issues at offensive line.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: If they have injuries up front, among starters, look out.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: That would be a big issue for this team, for sure.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: 206 is.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Trying to encourage me to play fantasy football. It's fun, Greg,
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: especially with just friends and no money. My wife won
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: last year. It was her second time ever playing. Easy peasy.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: I'm sure it's easy. I just don't have the time
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: or want to spend the time to devote to it,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: I guess.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, I have, you know, I've done multiple
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: leagues a couple different times. And then one always ends
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: up being like a forgotten child. And, you know, I
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: forgot to start a defense one time. And I'm like, well,
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: I'm focusing on these ones. That one, I'll just, you know,
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: At the very advent of, not very advent, but pretty
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: early in the fantasy stuff. I did a fantasy league
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: when I was in grad school. In the late 90s,
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: I'm dating myself down in Berkeley for baseball. And I
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: failed miserably at it because I always forgot to put
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: in a roster for the week. Monday morning was the
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: roster due or whatever it was. And I would always
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: get lapped by the field because I would not have
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: hurt guys in there and dudes on the disabled list and. Yeah,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: I just said, well, I just don't devote enough time
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: to it. So that's the reason. That's one of the reasons.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: And plus, I'm covering football. I don't want to go
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: away from football and do more football. I'm going to
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: go to Hawaii when the game's over on Wednesday night.
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you are. And you're going to have a very
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: good time.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: I think it's Mike Ben in here on Friday. I
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: will be in here on Thursday. And then we're flying
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: to Honolulu to see our daughter, who we haven't seen
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: in the Coast Guard since she got stationed there in June.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Because the Seahawks are pretty much dark from Thursday. There's
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: a press conference. after press conference for Mike McDonald. And
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: then Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, the players are off.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: There may be a press conference Monday. There may not be.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: But I saw this as a five-day window to get
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: the heck out of Dodge because I didn't see it
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: coming until the bye week. And even though there's another
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: hurricane rolling through, Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands. It's a
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: tropical storm in Oahu, but yeah, we're heading there on Thursday.
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: Hope your flights go well.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: I'm extra excited for the opener so that it'll be
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: over so we can go see my daughter in Hawaii.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Yes, I know.
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: You're counting down the run out the clock, run the ball,
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: run the ball, run the ball.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Now it's time for Jess and Factor Fiction.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: $ 10, 000 grand prize.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: It's Factor Fiction.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: day feels lucky.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Factor Fiction is on.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Sports Radio 93.3, KJR FM.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: All right, resetting the stage here.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: Sports Radio 90.3 KJR brings you Factor Fiction presented by
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: Lucky Eagle Casino Resort. How it works is for 15 weeks,
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: 14 weeks throughout the football season. Weekdays at 7.35 a.m.,
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: 11.35 a.m., 2.35 p.m., and 3.35 p.m. We're going to
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: make a pick based on the upcoming college or pro
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: game for the coming week and weekend. That's either against
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: the spread or the total over-under total number of points.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: Listeners will have 12 minutes after Jessamyn speaks her pick
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: here in a second. They will have 12 minutes to
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: text FACT if they agree with Jessamyn's pick or FICTION
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: if they disagree and think it's not going to happen.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: You can only pick one option per text window, but
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: you can enter as many times as you want throughout
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: the day and week, up to possibly 20 times a week.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: Whoever has the most correct entries at the end of
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: the season will win $ 10, 000. If you win just once, though,
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: you get entered into a drawing, into a hat that
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: Anderson Hurst will pick out on Monday for a chance
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: to win a weekly prize of $ 1, 000. So you see
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: how that works? You only have to win once to
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: be eligible for the $ 1, 000 weekly prize. But the more
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: chances to play, the more times you win over the
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: course of weeks in the season. You can win the
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: whole damn thing. $ 10, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino Resort.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Okay, she's tinting. Well, she's already told us.
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: She's going NFL.
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: I am going NFL.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: And this is going against my nature, but it's also
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: a hedge just considering my growing up devotion to the
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: New York Jets.
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: They are visiting Tennessee.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: And Tennessee is only favored by one and a half.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: Uh-huh. And I do not believe in what they have
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: to offer.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: So I am taking the Titans minus one and a
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: half versus the Jets.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: You're taking the Titans to beat the Jets by more
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: than two? Yes. So you're not having faith in Geno Smith?
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: No.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: Why would I, Greg?
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: I like, yeah. Why would I?
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: You've lived in Seattle, I guess.
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: And I lived in New York.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: And you've lived in New York.
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: I've seen both careers.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: You've seen both.
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: Yes, I have.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: This is no shade at Geno. I just don't think
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: they're going to get it done on the road week one.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: The Titans are projected to win a game and a
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: half more than them if you averaged it out this year.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: And I don't think they're going to lose at home
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: on their weekend opener.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: I really like your brief friend, Cam Ward. I think
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: he's going to be good for them. I do too.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: If they can build an offense around, I don't know
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: what their running game looks like. When we went back
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: there for the joint practices, the running game is a
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: question mark. But I like Cam Ward.
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: Me too.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: We'll see if Cam Ward can beat, and Jessamyn correct,
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: Cam Ward will beat Geno Smith in Nashville on Sunday. Again,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: if you missed it, Jessamyn's picking Tennessee. The Titans minus
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: one and a half to win by two or more
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: points over the Jets at home on Sunday. If you
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: agree with her, text FACT to 49451. If you think
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: she's full of beans and she should be a Geno
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Smith believer in his reincarnation with the Jets and you
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: think the Jets will win or lose by fewer than
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: one and a half point, meaning by one point or
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: win the game outright, text fiction. If you disagree with her, 49451.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: You have 12 minutes from right now. And then Ian
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Furness will do it again at 235. I thought for
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: a minute as you were setting it up that you're
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: going to go for the Jets.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: No.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: No, I said this goes against my nature. That's why
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: it's a hedge.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: It is a hedge.
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: Because if I'm wrong, then I'm happy.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Are you still a Jets fan?
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: I root for them. My whole family is. But I
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: don't have.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: That guttural Jet fan thing that I used to have
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: as a kid and stuff.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Live or die with them like I used to, but
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: I still root for them. They're my AFC team. This
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: is my NFC team out here with the Seahawks.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: It's the same in baseball. I have the Mets in
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: the NL, and I have the Mariners in the AL.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Is that a Long Island thing? That's why you're the Mets?
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Mets, Jets, Islanders, and then it goes Giants, Yankees, and Rangers.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: Because for the longest time, the Jets trained at Hempstead, right?
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: Where my dad coached.
- 1:13:59Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: They don't anymore, though, right? In Florham Park, New Jersey?
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: No, they're out there.
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: But they did, yeah, at Hofstra.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: And so my dad was a coach there, and so
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: I would get to go to all their practices and
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: things like that.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: So they shared the facility.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Coach McIntyre from Hofstra, yes, in Long Island, where the
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Jets used to train at Hofstra. Now they moved to
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: New Jersey, but that's part of it. And they played
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: in Shea Stadium, which technically is Long Island, right?
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: Queens, yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's on the island, but
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: it's in a borough that is not considered Long Island.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you there.
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: You didn't.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: I'm just saying it's very confusing because it's like Nassau
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: County and Suffolk County are considered Long Island, even though
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: all the boroughs are on the island.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: Manhattan's its own, but yes.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: Was defense right or wrong?
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: The defense is wrong.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: I got you. Yeah, you did.
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: It took me one second. I was like, hmm.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: 206 says, still worried about the Seahawks kicker. Yep, Jason
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: Myers in a close game. That could be an issue,
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: missing five of eight kicks in the preseason. But then again,
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: it was August. We'll see if that matters. Keith says,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I'm worried about this game against the Pats. We've lost
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: a lot of key positions, and they got better. A.J. Brown,
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: offensive line changes, new center. They let Bradbury go. Their
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: defense is relatively the same. Sam Donald says he is
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: still kicking himself for missing passes in the Super Bowl,
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: and he's motivated tomorrow night to right that wrong.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: That was the biggest thing that I wanted to see is, one,
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: is he going to sling it a little bit more?
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: And two, what does this offense look like?
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Anne Furness will be downtown with me tomorrow at Jimmy's,
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: both to hear the new Seahawks owners at 10 o'clock and,
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: I presume, to watch the game at 10. 5.20 at
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: Lumen Field. He joins us next on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: I think he's outside.
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: He's physically here.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Yes, he is. We'll see what he's got on his show,
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: 12 to 3, coming up on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Hi, welcome back.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: Greg Bell and Justin McIntyre joined by Ian Furness, the
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: mayor of Maple Valley. You heard the commercial or the
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: ad run there, the update of the coaches poll in
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: college football. The AP media poll is out, and Washington
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: has dropped from 17 to 19 after their difficult Apple
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Cup win. Michigan has fallen out of the top 25,
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: as deservedly so, a win they didn't win. And Virginia
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: has entered at 25th.
- 1:16:44Speaker 11: So that was the only team that dropped out and
- 1:16:45Speaker 11: came in?
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16:46Speaker 11: Michigan for Virginia?
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16:47Speaker 11: I mean, because every other... The only team that lost
- 1:16:50Speaker 11: in the top 25 was Louisville, right?
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: Correct.
- 1:16:52Speaker 11: And they lost to a meringue team, so... Yeah, they
- 1:16:55Speaker 11: lost to a top 10 team. I thought you were
- 1:16:56Speaker 11: going to say the thing I just heard for the
- 1:16:59Speaker 11: advertisement for Calci, which has been banned in our state now, too.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Yes, it has.
- 1:17:02Speaker 11: I like those. I like the ads that are running
- 1:17:04Speaker 11: in our state that are banned.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: DraftKings.
- 1:17:06Speaker 11: DraftKings is running a spot on TV that says they're
- 1:17:08Speaker 11: available in every state.
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: I don't think they.
- 1:17:12Speaker 11: Unless you want to say that because you're– maybe I
- 1:17:14Speaker 11: think one of the casinos may use them.
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 1:17:17Speaker 11: I don't know who does. I know the Muckleshoot doesn't.
- 1:17:19Speaker 11: I don't– Snoqualmie has her own book. So I don't know.
- 1:17:21Speaker 11: But I thought you meant the Cal State. Brought to
- 1:17:23Speaker 11: you by Cal State. Well, Bob Ferguson says no. Robert
- 1:17:29Speaker 11: says no. My old classmate at St. Ann's says, no,
- 1:17:31Speaker 11: you can't do that. Can't do that.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: So we're going to be downtown tomorrow. Jimmy's on first.
- 1:17:35Speaker 11: That's what I've been told.
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: That's what I've been told.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: Are you excited for this?
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: This is not like a normal season opener. We've only
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: had one of these in Seattle's history. A Super Bowl champion.
- 1:17:45Speaker 11: Very different for me because last time we were down
- 1:17:48Speaker 11: there doing three hours of live shots on the day
- 1:17:51Speaker 11: of the game and on the field and Getting ready to,
- 1:17:54Speaker 11: I mean, I was so much more involved with the day-to-day.
- 1:17:57Speaker 11: So for me personally, if you're asking that, I'm excited
- 1:18:00Speaker 11: as hell to be a fan tomorrow.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:01Speaker 11: I mean, let's just go. I'm going to haul ass home,
- 1:18:04Speaker 11: watch it with my son and some of his buddies
- 1:18:07Speaker 11: and can't wait. I mean, Wednesday football's dumb. It's dumb
- 1:18:10Speaker 11: that they're making the Super Bowl champion open on a
- 1:18:12Speaker 11: Wednesday and not the other two teams in San Francisco
- 1:18:16Speaker 11: and the Rams.
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: Well, they're in Australia.
- 1:18:18Speaker 11: I know, but why do they get the Thursday game?
- 1:18:22Speaker 11: I guess would be my question. Now, the good news
- 1:18:23Speaker 11: for Seattle is you've had two weeks off since preseason,
- 1:18:26Speaker 11: and you get an extra day off after this game.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: So it's odd.
- 1:18:30Speaker 11: We have an Apple Cup in 75-degree temperatures in September,
- 1:18:32Speaker 11: the first game. We have the first game of the
- 1:18:34Speaker 11: Seahawks season. It's on a Wednesday. But I'm excited, man.
- 1:18:38Speaker 11: I want to see this team. I think the Patriots
- 1:18:40Speaker 11: are going to give them a hell of a lot
- 1:18:41Speaker 11: better of a fight than they did in the Super Bowl,
- 1:18:44Speaker 11: assuming they can protect Drake May. Yeah, that's a big if.
- 1:18:47Speaker 11: But then there's the other part is the Seahawks injuries
- 1:18:49Speaker 11: in the second. So, yeah, let's go.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: As a fan, what do you want to hear? It's
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: largely perfunctory tomorrow. There's your little word of the day.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: It's largely perfunctory tomorrow. Here we go. It's the first
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: time we can use that.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 1:19:04Speaker 12: No doubt.
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: The owner's press conference, largely perfunctory tomorrow. But what do
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: you want to hear from them on their first day officially?
- 1:19:11Speaker 11: Well, I think my question, and this is just selfish
- 1:19:13Speaker 11: because I'm friends with some of those folks. I want
- 1:19:15Speaker 11: to know what changes they're going to make in the
- 1:19:17Speaker 11: business side.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: Is Chuck still good?
- 1:19:20Speaker 11: I love Chuck.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: Chuck Arnold, the president.
- 1:19:22Speaker 9: Love him.
- 1:19:22Speaker 11: And I hope he and Amy and the rest of
- 1:19:26Speaker 11: the crew on that side of the building, I hope
- 1:19:28Speaker 11: they're all really good because they do a great job.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:31Speaker 11: You know, like we joke about, you know, Pearson, anything else?
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: Anything else?
- 1:19:34Speaker 11: We joke about that all the time. The PR staff's great.
- 1:19:37Speaker 11: Like in my mind, they're great. I know everybody has
- 1:19:39Speaker 11: their own way. They judge PR staffs, but I think
- 1:19:41Speaker 11: in this city, they're the best ones, and it's not close.
- 1:19:45Speaker 11: I've worked with ones. Tell you what, I've worked with
- 1:19:48Speaker 11: a couple other ones in NBA cities over the years
- 1:19:50Speaker 11: that have been, ooh, ee, ah. So I just, I mean,
- 1:19:54Speaker 11: you know, I've always found it fascinating that– In that organization,
- 1:20:00Speaker 11: you can look around, and even if you don't know
- 1:20:02Speaker 11: the name of somebody, like at training camp when they're
- 1:20:04Speaker 11: walking around with clients and stuff, you go, I've seen
- 1:20:06Speaker 11: that person's face for 20 years. That says a lot
- 1:20:10Speaker 11: about the culture of the building, not on the football side,
- 1:20:14Speaker 11: but on the business side. And they had a very
- 1:20:17Speaker 11: subpar president at one point, McLaughlin. But before that, with
- 1:20:21Speaker 11: Todd and certainly with Chuck, They've had some really good
- 1:20:25Speaker 11: people in that front office, and by and large, the
- 1:20:27Speaker 11: business side, marketing side, sales side, ticketing side, PR, communications,
- 1:20:33Speaker 11: digital media, all those.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: They stay.
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: And if they wanted to ask me, they won't, but
- 1:20:40Speaker 11: they'd say, well, all you need to know is that
- 1:20:43Speaker 11: the culture, both football and business, is really good. There's
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: really nothing to fix. You may want to tweak it.
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: Don't make the mistake that a lot of people do.
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: We've got to bring our own people in. Well, maybe
- 1:20:54Speaker 11: your own people aren't better. Maybe the people here are
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: better right now. But that's just me. I think that football-wise,
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: they can't be dumb enough to bring in Tom Flores
- 1:21:03Speaker 11: and Mike Blatt and stuff like that. They can't be
- 1:21:05Speaker 11: doing that. like Ken Baring did. So I think we'll
- 1:21:08Speaker 11: be fine in that regard.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: They've already indicated they're going to sit back and listen
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: and watch and learn. They are fortunate, lucky in Vinod
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: Khosla's word, to be inheriting a Super Bowl champion team.
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: There's a great unknown though, Greg, right? Because they haven't
- 1:21:20Speaker 11: owned a team. When Tom Dundon bought the Blazers, there were...
- 1:21:26Speaker 11: There was a framework. There was an outline of who
- 1:21:28Speaker 11: and what he was as an owner. And to his credit,
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: he's followed that to a T. Everything that everyone in
- 1:21:35Speaker 11: the hockey world said about Tom Dundon is 100% true.
- 1:21:39Speaker 11: He's a cheap ass. He's just a bad owner on
- 1:21:43Speaker 11: every level outside of the fact that his team has
- 1:21:46Speaker 11: lucked into a Stanley Cup this year. And I say
- 1:21:48Speaker 11: lucked into it because our hockey ops staff is great.
- 1:21:50Speaker 11: I'm not sure how much credit I give because they've
- 1:21:51Speaker 11: been there for a long time. But We knew what
- 1:21:55Speaker 11: that was going to be. Portland, we told you what
- 1:21:57Speaker 11: it was going to be, and it came to fruition.
- 1:21:59Speaker 11: This group, who knows?
- 1:22:01Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:22:02Speaker 11: Great unknown.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: Never done it before.
- 1:22:04Speaker 11: I mean, he may say, yeah, we're going to sit
- 1:22:06Speaker 11: back and wait. That may not be the case.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Who knows? I think Neil Kozla may end up moving here.
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: I'm not sure they all will, but the youngest son.
- 1:22:15Speaker 11: I was curious why she, the mom is the governor
- 1:22:19Speaker 11: and the controlling owner. But the son feels like he's
- 1:22:23Speaker 11: a lot more the guy going to be in charge.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: That might be a tax thing. There might be some
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: tax benefits to having the wife be there. That's probably it.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: I think that might be it. That's probably it.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: What do you got today?
- 1:22:33Speaker 11: We will check in with MK and Alex. Our Cougs
- 1:22:36Speaker 11: will come up at 1230 today. Recap the Apple Cup.
- 1:22:40Speaker 11: Look ahead to the future of the Apple Cup if
- 1:22:41Speaker 11: there is one. We'll talk about that a little bit
- 1:22:43Speaker 11: with them coming up at 1230. And then we'll have
- 1:22:46Speaker 11: Joe Sheehan at 1 o'clock. He was on fire last week.
- 1:22:49Speaker 11: I don't know how he'll be this week.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: He had one.
- 1:22:51Speaker 11: He said a plant would be better off in the
- 1:22:53Speaker 11: dugout than Dan Wilson.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: A plant. A potted plant. What kind of plant? A ficus.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:22:59Speaker 11: Yeah, that's what he said actually last week.
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: They get pretty tall, just like Dan Wilson.
- 1:23:02Speaker 11: He said a ficus would be better than Dan Wilson
- 1:23:04Speaker 11: last week. We'll see what he has in this week.
- 1:23:06Speaker 11: And then John Lund. It's game week for the Niners.
- 1:23:09Speaker 11: Game week for the Seahawks. We'll spice things up at
- 1:23:11Speaker 11: 2 o'clock with Lund as well. I got a little
- 1:23:14Speaker 11: surprise for him. I'm going to throw at him, too,
- 1:23:16Speaker 11: so you can get his reaction. So that's coming up
- 1:23:17Speaker 11: at 2 o'clock.
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: And fact or fiction, ladies and gentlemen?
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: Hey, was I really holding you back? I had one
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: pick a week, man.
- 1:23:24Speaker 11: She was listening yesterday.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: A little birdie, actually. A listener conspired.
- 1:23:30Speaker 11: She was listening yesterday.
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: I heard it.
- 1:23:33Speaker 11: Listen, you left me. I'm going to throw you under
- 1:23:35Speaker 11: the bus.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: See, I said he sounds like a spurned ex.
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: You wait. You wait.
- 1:23:39Speaker 11: If Anders ever leaves me, he'll get thrown under the bus, too.
- 1:23:45Speaker 11: I go with one philosophy. You're with me or you're
- 1:23:47Speaker 11: against me.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: Simple as that.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: I just take it as you miss me already.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: That must be it.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Look where she went to. A little bit of an upgrade.
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: Ian's next from 12 until 3. I'll do it again tomorrow.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: But from Jimmy's, we'll be down there right across the
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: street from the stadium. I almost said something, but I'm not.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: I'm just going to keep talking. I'm just going to
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: keep talking. I'm just going to keep talking. Ian's up next,
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: 12 to 3. I'll see you tomorrow from the stadium district. Tomorrow,
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: 10 to noon on 93.3 KJRFM.
