- 1:08tom for us to listen to today's episode of Yours Truly Johnny Doller. As
- 1:15we began with the Open Town Matter Parts one and two from Hollywood, It's
- 1:22time now for Johnny Dillar Ralph Kurentz, Johnny Great Plains guardy Oh hi,
- 1:30Ralph, Johnny, you're fifty two years old. I am. Eight months
- 1:34ago you married a lovely twenty seven year old girl. Now I'm with you.
- 1:37I must, lady. It took out a fifty thousand dollars life insurance
- 1:40policy unachief of police's salary. I did, huh and who did I name
- 1:44his beneficiary? Your beautiful wife? Who else? So so three days ago
- 1:48you were shot to death. I had a feeling it wasn't gonna last.
- 1:51And twenty four hours lady, your wife files a claim on the policy.
- 1:53My friends tried to warn me she was fast. Well there's the setup.
- 1:57What do you think the same thing? You probably do that in case you
- 2:00got just fifty six minutes to catch the plane. The town is Greensport,
- 2:02Missouri. And watch yourself. What do you mean from what I hear,
- 2:06Johnny? It's a wide open town tonight and every weekday night. Bob Bailey,
- 2:19in the Transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Pact expenscout America's fabulous
- 2:23freelance insurance Investigators, Truly Johnny Dollar, from Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to the
- 2:42home office Great Plans Guarantee Company, Hartford, Connecticut. The following is an
- 2:46accounting of expenditures during my investigation of the open town matter. Item one eighty
- 2:53four dollars and sixty cents transportation in Incinental's Hartford to green Sport and taxi to
- 2:58the townhouse hotel. I was hoping for a chance to shower and change,
- 3:01look around long enough to get my bearings and then edge into the case gradually.
- 3:06But it didn't work out that way. The case was already there and
- 3:08waiting for me, right in the lobby of the hotel, all dressed up
- 3:12in a shiny black suit, squeaky black shoes, and a neat of the
- 3:15neat little black bull tie. Oh am, I glad to see you,
- 3:19mister Dollar. Are you Oh indeed, yes I am. I just be
- 3:21the great big sigh relief. You know when I heard you tell the clerk
- 3:23your name, that's how I know you're you? You know you mean?
- 3:27There's been some doubts, but of course you'll want to know I'm mean.
- 3:29So I'll swear I had a card in one of these pockets. Well maybe
- 3:32you could just tell me who you are, mister Potzer, April p.
- 3:37Potza. I ought to have a card though, to make it more official.
- 3:38Well, never mind, I believe you. I must have given them
- 3:40all away. Don't worry, though, I'll get some more printed and see
- 3:43that you have one before you leave. Wow. Thanks a lot, mister
- 3:46Potsa. And now I wait, mister Dollar, you want to talk to
- 3:47me? Of course? Well, yes, I'm the agent here for the
- 3:51Great Plains Guarantee Company. I'm the one that sold that policy to the full
- 3:54of it's dead. Oh so that's it. Of course he wasn't dead,
- 3:58then you understand I'm glad to hear it. Feeling pretty lively as a matter
- 4:01of fact. But with a new young wife and all that, I imagine,
- 4:03so and not just a dollar. You got to do something about that
- 4:08woman. Oh oh, she's driving me crazy. She wants her money,
- 4:11she says, fifty thousand dollars, and she seems to think I'm carrying it
- 4:14around in my pocket. She's kind of anxious. I'll tell you how anxious.
- 4:17Chief Blake was shot about two in the morning, and at three that
- 4:20afternoon, Marty, that's missus Blake was down at my office after a claim
- 4:25form. Yeah, I understand it was sentta airmail special delivery, but she
- 4:28insisted on it, made me take it straight to the post office, assume
- 4:30as she'd signed it. Pretty cold blooded about it. Well, I've heard
- 4:34Marty Blake called a lot of different things in this town at different times,
- 4:38but never cold blooded. You follow me, I think I'm ahead of you.
- 4:43You know what I mean? Alright, when you meet her, I
- 4:46can Harley Wait, man, oh, man, wow, And I'm two
- 4:56A dollar and fifteen cents taxi to the suburban home of Edgar Blake, former
- 5:00chief of Police of Greensport, now deceased. On the strength of Patzi's description
- 5:04of the widow, I added a shave to the shower and change, and
- 5:08I hoped I looked a little fresher than I felt. The house was a
- 5:14rambling two story job set back from the street, well kept shrubbery, nice,
- 5:17long, quiet neighborhood, and plenty expensive. I wondered how Blake had
- 5:21been able to afford it. I was halfway up the walk when a man
- 5:25came out the front door. He wavered down the steps, then stopped and
- 5:29waited for me, rocking slightly on his heels. A copper, I can
- 5:35tell him a block away. You're a copper, right, wrong, private
- 5:39eye, maybe no insurance, investigating insurance. That's what I just asked her
- 5:44about. And you know what she did. I threw you up probably right,
- 5:46said I was drunk. Oh, ridiculous. It's exactly what I said.
- 5:50Ridiculous, I told her ridiculous. But do you know something she was
- 5:54right? I am no. I can hardly believe it. What's the fact
- 5:57though, at least a little bit? Maam's Craley Joe Craley, I'm a
- 6:01reporter Green Sport Daily harrowd Johnny dawarck Y Joe insurance. Huh and he did
- 6:08have some Well, you wouldn't have had any reason to be here. She
- 6:12was lying, no coming, who's a beneficiary? It's still no coming.
- 6:15It's here, of course, a little smarty Marty is ever love a little
- 6:18wife? How much is she going to make on the deal? Sorry,
- 6:21Joe, no comments? I love it? Oh, wait a minute to
- 6:27tell me something, Joe. Suppose I wanted a little action, wanted to
- 6:30get into a poker game while I'm here, find a crap table? Maybe
- 6:34any idea where I could go? Sure? Any one? A half a
- 6:38dozen different How long you been in town, Johnny? About an hour?
- 6:44You're wised up pretty fast, didn't you. I didn't know what's a secret.
- 6:47The town is wide open, isn't it? It is? But I
- 6:51wouldn't go around poking and things. If I were you. A guy could
- 6:55get hurt. You see what I mean? Maybe a guy did get hurt.
- 6:59Blake, Kimmy, what makes you think so well? If somebody wanted
- 7:01to keep the rackets going. The police chief would be a natural target,
- 7:04wouldn't he not necessarily need no comment? What was Blake? Sorry, Joe
- 7:12six thousand a year on six thousand, he was living in a house like
- 7:15this lady is seem mighty. She's even more expensive. So that's why Greensport
- 7:20is wide open. The police chief was in no comment. Well he's out
- 7:28now, that's for sure. Uh, Joe, I'll probably be talking to
- 7:31you later. Yeah, yeah, I do that. Just ask anybody,
- 7:34Joe Crailey, the alcoholic that works for the Arald I'm always around somewhere.
- 7:50Well, how do you do? Yes? What can I do? Johnny
- 7:55Dollar? I'm representing the insurance company. Oh, come in, mister Dollar,
- 8:00come this way. I'm a little surprised, really, I highly expected
- 8:03them to pay off so promptly. And in that case, you won't be
- 8:07too disappointed. Disappointed? What do you mean? I mean? I didn't
- 8:11come here to pay you anything? Then, why did you come? I'm
- 8:15a special investigator, missus Blake? What does that mean? The company would
- 8:18like a little more information about your husband's death. I told them all about
- 8:22it in the claim I sent to you. I know, but sometimes it's
- 8:24near that's the pitch. They're trying to squirm out of it. Why do
- 8:28you say that? Because they sent you here, that's why, Because they
- 8:31always do. I know how those companies operate. You've had experience with them
- 8:37before? No, I haven't. But I'm a real smart girl, mister
- 8:39dollar, and I know a fast shuffle when I see it coming. And
- 8:43a smart girl ought to know better than to yell before she's hurt. Why
- 8:46else would they send out a special investigator? I told you why. They
- 8:50want some more information? What information? What is it? They want to
- 8:52know the details, that's all exactly how your husband was killed. I told
- 8:56them all that in the claim. He was shocked to death with his own
- 9:00gone right here in his own house. Do you mind showing me how it
- 9:05happened? Oh? For the love, Look, there won't be any payment
- 9:09U until I file my report, missus blake, all right? You win?
- 9:16When you go after something, you really go after it, don't you.
- 9:18That's what I get paid for. Oh and what about something you personally
- 9:24wanted? Well, that would depend on how bad I wanted it. I
- 9:31see. Would you like a drink? No? No, no thanks?
- 9:35You won't mind if I have one? Right ahead? Looking at you right
- 9:45now, if you wouldn't mind me, Yeah, I stick to business all
- 9:50right. Come on. Happened over here by the stairway, right here.
- 9:58This is where he fell. This is where he died. His gun was
- 10:01lying on the floor beside him. The middle of the night. Wasn't about
- 10:03two in the morning. We'd been asleep. Why did he come downstairs?
- 10:05I heard a noise of some kind. It woke me up. I shook
- 10:09ed and told him about it, and he came down to see what it
- 10:11was. It was armed. No, his gun was there on the hall
- 10:13table by the front door. Is that where he usually lift it? Yes,
- 10:18whenever he came home he always took it off and put it there on
- 10:20the table. Then anyone who knew him would probably know they could find it
- 10:24there. Yes, I suppose. So, So what happened? Like I
- 10:31said, It went on downstairs and I walked out of the bedroom into the
- 10:33hall. Were there any lights on? Not down here? I turned on
- 10:37the hall light upstairs. Did you hear your husband say anything? No?
- 10:39All I heard was the shots, four or five of them. Then I
- 10:43heard someone run out the front door, and what did you do? I
- 10:45caught out to it, but he didn't answer, and I ran downstairs and
- 10:48found him lying here dead. Did you get a look at the prowler or
- 10:52whoever it was, No, it was too dark, and he ran out
- 10:54as soon as he fired the shots. How did he get into the house,
- 10:58the detective said, yea, he forced the lock on the front door.
- 11:01I guess that was the sound that woke me up, and then he
- 11:05used a gun that was inside the house that he may or may not have
- 11:09known was inside the house. That's what the police figure, all right.
- 11:13What do you figure, missus Blake, the same thing? I guess.
- 11:18I don't know any more about it than they do. I thought you might
- 11:20have some theory of your own, a string along with them, Just an
- 11:26accidental prowler who got panicky and snatched up a gun that happened to be lying
- 11:31around handy. I guess that's about him, any idead all who the problem
- 11:37might have been, of course not? Do you suppose it could have been
- 11:39somebody besides a prowler, somebody who came here for the express purpose of murdering
- 11:43your husband and had a lot of enemies, of course, because of his
- 11:48job. What about his friends, Missus Blake, What do you mean,
- 11:52do you suppose one of his friends could have done it? I don't know
- 11:56what you're talking about. I've been admiring your watch, real nice setting diamonds,
- 12:03emerald band must be worth around two thousand dollars. Very nice. Well,
- 12:09thank you, ms House the furniture. That car out there in the
- 12:13driveway on a police chief salary, Missus Blake, I wouldn't know anything about
- 12:20Ed's financial affairs. Who runs the rackets here in Greensport? What rackets?
- 12:24Mister Dollar? Was your husband and on them? Sure you would have that
- 12:28drink? All right, Missus Blake, play at your way. I thought
- 12:33the insurance company was probably convinced that I was the one who killed him.
- 12:37They're not convinced of anything yet, but they think I did it, don't
- 12:39they? No, but they think twenty four hours is pretty fast for a
- 12:43grief stricken widow to shoot a claim into the office. I am not grief
- 12:46stricken, mister Dollar, So I noticed. Do I have to be?
- 12:50Is there some clause in the policy? No, you don't have to be.
- 12:56You think I did it, don't you. I think there's a strong
- 12:58chance, then I think you need a little straightening out. Listen, Why
- 13:03should I make it easy for you. Go see Dave Sherman. Talk to
- 13:07him, Dave Sherman, the city attorney. See what he says before you
- 13:11get all lathered up. See if he thinks I'm guilty. All right,
- 13:15I will, and then we'll talk, and if you're nice enough to me,
- 13:20maybe I'll even cooperate. You never know, do you, Johnny Dollar?
- 13:45This is Dave Sherman, mister Dollar, city attorney. Oh, yes,
- 13:48I'm trying to reach you. Mister Sherman tells me it's the Ed Blake
- 13:52case. I suppose that's right. Well, I've already told my secretary to
- 13:54make all the records of it. It's not the records I'm mainly interested in,
- 13:58mister Sherman. I want to talk to you person. Why because I've
- 14:01been informed that you were able to furnish an alibi for my number one suspect,
- 14:05Mardy Blake. That's right, who informed you, mister Dollar? Mighty
- 14:09Blake a lovely widow. Right, Well, I guess we'd better have a
- 14:15talk. That's exactly what I was thinking. Yes, if you're dead set
- 14:18on lighting a fuse in this town, I may as well give you some
- 14:20matches. Come on over to the courthouse from Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, location,
- 14:35Greensport, Missouri to the home office Great Plains Guarantee Company, Hartford,
- 14:37Connecticut. Assignment the open town matter expense account continued Items five and six seventy
- 14:48cents. A copy of the Greensport Daily Herald and the taxi fair to city
- 14:52Hall. I opened the paper and glanced over the headlines murder of police chiefs
- 14:58still unsolved. City Attorney's office claims new evidence. Mayor Llans demands action.
- 15:05I could feel for the Mayor. My clients stood to lose fifty thousand dollars
- 15:09life insurance payable to the dead police chief's widow, Marty Blake. So I
- 15:13wanted action too, and I was hoping to get it from City Attorney Dave
- 15:16Sherman. I'm mister dollars. I want to say, thanks. Why did
- 15:28you get in town oh earlier this afternoon and you've already met Marty Blake.
- 15:33That figures, yes, it does. Under the circumstances. Her husband has
- 15:37been killed. He carried fifty thousand dollars worth of insurance with my company,
- 15:41and missus Blake filed her claim less than twenty four hours after his death.
- 15:46So that's why you hot footed it out here from Hartford. Well, the
- 15:48company figured twenty four hours. It was pretty fast action for a grief stricken
- 15:52widow. I don't imagine Marty is grieving too much. Oh she's not.
- 15:58She told me that herself. Marty's about twenty six or seven. Ed Blake
- 16:03was in his fifties. Money maybe, well not until he met her.
- 16:07Then he started to make it fast. He had to. That's how Marty
- 16:11likes things fast. And then he married her. Well, then she married
- 16:14him, and now eight months later she's a widow with an insurance claim for
- 16:19fifty thousand dollars. Well, she said she liked things fast. Why,
- 16:25I know what you're thinking, mister dollar, but you may as well back
- 16:26up and start all over. You're off on the wrong foot. How do
- 16:30you mean this killing? Oh sure worked out perfect for and made to order.
- 16:37A man could build a pretty good case against her, especially with that
- 16:40twenty four hour insurance claim. Yes, I would really sent it with a
- 16:44jury. I pointed that out to her. I figured, as much,
- 16:48would you mind telling me what happened? Well, her first move was to
- 16:51start turning on the chair. That's one of the easiest things she does if
- 16:56she thinks it might pay off. And after all, with fifty thousand dollars
- 17:00in the office, did she give you any of the details that you know
- 17:04the night had happened? It bored her to death to even talk about him,
- 17:10and you thought she was putting on an act? Who maybe throw you
- 17:14off? What would you think? Oh, she wasn't, mister Dollar anymore
- 17:17than she was sorry that Ed Blake was murdered. Then she's pretty cold blooded.
- 17:22Well that's some old question. Figuratively, yes, I suppose she is.
- 17:26See, she used to be an answer, never good enough to make
- 17:29the big time, so she had to Well, I lived by her wits
- 17:33and her charm. But you pointed out things that could look pretty black for
- 17:37if the case ever got to court. That's right, what happened? She
- 17:41said me to you? Why so I could tell you she didn't kill him?
- 17:47Well it adds up, mister s I know it's late at night,
- 17:48the two of them alone in the house, her husband shot to death with
- 17:52his own life, I know, mister Dollar, but not by her.
- 17:55Why not That story about the mysterious prower has when used before over and over.
- 18:00In fact, I broke one of them, not six months ago.
- 18:03But in this case it's true. How do you know? Because you were
- 18:04wrong on one point. They weren't alone in the house. What do you
- 18:10mean? Who else was there? I was? Oh, I see,
- 18:18she's as pure as the driven snow, well, at least so far as
- 18:22Blake's murderer is concerned. Yeah. Kind of a neat setup, isn't it.
- 18:25Huh instead of prosecuting attorney or the star witness for the defense. Yes,
- 18:30I support if it came to that, I'd have to be. I
- 18:33was there when it, so, that's why she sent me to you,
- 18:36so I could hear it straight from the horse's mouth. That's about it.
- 18:40Well, she couldn't have a much better alibi than the city attorney himself,
- 18:44thank you. Or she's in the clear, mister Dollon. How did you
- 18:48happen to be there at two o'clock in the morning. I was spending the
- 18:51night, Ed and I were planning to leave early on a fishing trip.
- 18:53Oh, I see, like to tell me all about it. Certainly we'd
- 19:00all gone to better on midnight. This is a few minutes before too.
- 19:03I woke up. I heard Marty and it out in the hall just outside
- 19:06my room. I opened my door, and just then Marty snapped on the
- 19:10hall lights. A second later the shots blasted downstairs, five quick ones.
- 19:14Where was she standing at the time, by the door of her room,
- 19:17not ten feet away from me. So you see, mister Dollar, she
- 19:19couldn't have done it. So that's that she can thank her lucky stars.
- 19:26You were there. Oh, Marty's always been lucky. Have you known her
- 19:29a long time? Three or four years? Ever since she came here to
- 19:33Green Sport? You and Blake were pretty good friends, I suppose no.
- 19:37No, As a matter of fact, we didn't have too much use reaching.
- 19:40Oh. I know it doesn't make sense going fishing together and spending a
- 19:45night in his home. But well, I know what you're thinking, mister
- 19:48Dollar, do you. Yes, you're thinking maybe I need an alibi as
- 19:52much as Marty does. Well, it is that kind of an alibi.
- 19:55It works equally well for either of you too. Yeah, only I don't
- 19:57need an alibi. Blake and I had our little differences, that's true,
- 20:02but they weren't serious enough to be a motive for killing him. Maybe Mighty
- 20:07yourself could be a motive in what way? How old are you, mister
- 20:11Sherman? Thirty three. Why and Marty Blake is twenty seven and a beautiful
- 20:15girl. Her husband was around fifty two. Wrong, Guess again, mister
- 20:19dollar. I've known her too long, and what's more important, I know
- 20:22it too well. Meaning. Sure, she's a knockout. I was nuts
- 20:26about her once. She's a my summer night wild honeysuckle and a handful of
- 20:33stars. But there's one great, big catch to it, and that is
- 20:34she's got a building jukebox hidden way inside of her, and when you put
- 20:38in money, it plays real pretty music when you don't nothing ed Blake found
- 20:45out and still went on putting in money. You liked the music, and
- 20:48that's why he got mixed up in the rackets. Please, she's sorry.
- 20:52What well, well, mister dollar, you do get around, don't you?
- 20:56Was Blake running them or just taking on? Now? What makes you
- 20:59think there are any rackets here? Maybe it was just a guess who told
- 21:02you about them? It's funny. I can't seem to remember at the moment.
- 21:06I just bet you can't. Suppose you answered my question, mister Sherman,
- 21:10who's behind the rackets here in green Sport? Just a minute? I
- 21:11didn't get is from or was he the one who gave me Wait a minute,
- 21:15mister Dollar, just take it ease. Gave I wonder if you'd mind
- 21:18going over that report. Oh sorry, I didn't know you had. No,
- 21:22that's all right. Well, come on in. This is Johnny Dollar.
- 21:26Dollar's mayor llons a Dollar, mister Dollars, an insurance investigator. Will
- 21:32he's here to look into Ed Blake's death. Terrible tragedy, mister Dollar.
- 21:34We'd appreciate all the help you can give us. Well, so far,
- 21:37Mayor, I'm afraid that doesn't mount to very much. The only theory I
- 21:41had just blew up in my face. Oh what was this theory? Mister
- 21:44Dollars suspected Martin Blake of the killing. Well, Dave, didn't you tell
- 21:48him that you? Yes, yes, he told me, Mayor. That's
- 21:51when I blow up in my face. Well, at various times in the
- 21:53past, missus Blake might have been there's one might say, a bit indiscreet,
- 21:59but consider her capable of cold blooded murder is utterly unthinkable, sir,
- 22:03particularly when she was standing just ten feet away from the city attorney at the
- 22:07time. Well, yes, that's true, of course. Just what is
- 22:10the official theory on the shooting, gentlemen, Well, at the moment,
- 22:12I'm afraid we haven't anything. I'll tell you, mister Doller. When we
- 22:17find Shorty Wells, we'll have the killer. Shorty Wells a local hoodlum.
- 22:22Blake got him sent up the river a couple of years ago, and Shorty
- 22:23swore that he'd get Blake for it if it was the last thing that he
- 22:26ever did. Oh well, that's a fairly common threat to offer a criminal
- 22:30to make, and usually it's nothing but talk. But Shorty was po just
- 22:33last week, mister Daller. He was seen around town the morning before the
- 22:37killing, and we haven't been able to locate him since. I see,
- 22:40Wells did it all right, there's not the least doubt in the world.
- 22:44Yeah, it seems to add up, doesn't he Yes, And we've got
- 22:45every available man on the lookout for him, but so far, no luck.
- 22:48There's not even a trace of him. Tell me something, mayor would
- 22:52mighty Blake know anything about the rackets? Her husband was tied in with rackets?
- 22:56Why that's the most pretty well, well, it's no use. Mister
- 23:00Dollar has been talking to somebody and he's found out that our little city isn't
- 23:03as lily white as we'd like to pretend. Indeed, it's true, isn't
- 23:06it? My air? As I hear at Greensport is a wide open town
- 23:11as well admitted? Will he knows it already? There's no point in trying
- 23:15to lie about it. All right, it's true, mister Dollar. But
- 23:18it's not wide open as you put it. But there are rackets, as
- 23:22unpleasant as it may be to admit it. Do you have any idea who
- 23:25was back of them? I wish to have an idea. What about you,
- 23:27mister Sherman. I'll find an idea strong enough to talk about. I'd
- 23:30be talking about it in court. What about this Shorty Wells? Was he
- 23:33in on them before Blake sent him to prison? Yes, supposedly, but
- 23:37he wouldn't spill a word about the setup at his trial. Afraid you may
- 23:38be huh. Probably Wells is the key to this whole thing, mister Dollar,
- 23:42the rackets as well as the killing. Find Shorty Wells and we can
- 23:45wrap this thing up in ten minutes. Then I guess we better find him.
- 23:55Standard theory number two. A next convict with a grudge. Number one
- 24:00young pretty wife, middle aged husband, big insurance policy hadn't panned out too
- 24:03well, and I wasn't too sold on the second one. It was just
- 24:07two pats somehow, and the fact that Shorty Wells was missing didn't mean much.
- 24:11If I were an ex khan just out of prison and had threatened a
- 24:15man who was later murdered, I'd be missing too, And yet the penancy
- 24:18was sometimes the right one. The case was still, like the town itself,
- 24:22wide open. I walked out a city hall, started down the sidewalk
- 24:26toward the taxi stand. I didn't know what move to try next. Technically,
- 24:30of course, I was out of it. Since the beneficiary had an
- 24:33ironclad alibi, she'd get paid regardless of who actually did kill Blake. I
- 24:38didn't pay any attention to the horn the first time, but when it sounded
- 24:41again, I turned to look. She was part of the curb a few
- 24:45yards away. Whydy Blake. I've been waiting for you, Johnny, have
- 24:49you yes? I wanted to talk to you. You didn't earlier. I
- 24:55guess you just rubbed me the wrong way. You weren't very nice to me,
- 24:59you know. Sorry, you've talked to Dave Sherman. I suppose,
- 25:02yeah, yeah, he gives you an airtine alibi. Why didn't you tell
- 25:07me he was there that night? When I talked with you this afternoon,
- 25:11I might have if you'd been nicer to me. I see you'd have checked
- 25:15it with him anyway. Yeah, I suppose I would have done well.
- 25:18Now that you know I'm not a murderess, maybe we can get to be
- 25:22friends. Johnny, you think so, you're still not being very nice.
- 25:26I am always politely respectful toward new widows, Missus Blake, at least until
- 25:33after the first week. I told you I didn't care about Ed. Who
- 25:37do you care about besides yourself? Shorty Wells? By any chance? Shorty
- 25:41Wells? Who told you that? And you know him? Of course?
- 25:45I know him? Is I used to know him? Where is he now?
- 25:48How should I know? What are you trying to pull? If you
- 25:51think for one minute that you're get on quick? Are you all right,
- 25:56Missus Wake? Yes? I guess shots, Johnny, somebody was trying to
- 26:03kill you. I didn't know it was me that were shooting at it.
- 26:04Maybe they were out to kill you, Missus Blake. Now here's our star
- 26:22to tell you about tomorrow's episode of this week's story Before I do that,
- 26:27please let me say thanks to all of you who are so kind about writing
- 26:32and telling us how much you like Johnny Dollar. It's very gratifying encouragement to
- 26:37all of us who are involved in production of the program, and we appreciate
- 26:41your letters more than you know. As always, I'll try to answer you
- 26:45promptly, but sometimes the male does pile up in any event, Thanks,
- 26:48thanks very much for writing. Tomorrow an old flame and a new one,
- 26:52and two men get burned. One becomes an alcoholic, the other a human
- 26:57torch. Join us, won't you? Yours Truly? Johnny Downard. Yours

- 27:12join us tomorrow night at the same time in station for the next exciting episode
- 27:15of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Roy Rowan speaking welcome back. I love the
- 28:18part in the prosecuting attorney's office between Johnny Dollar and the prosecuting attorney. You
- 28:26could kind of feel the tension start to build there, and I think there's
- 28:30definitely going to be some reaction in that direction. Definitely an interesting case,
- 28:38and I like the reference to previous to previous episode of course, referring back
- 28:45to the quay bono matter of course, in that case, Johnny needed a
- 28:52glow in the dark Nettie in order to close the del All right, well,
- 28:56now to listener comments and feedback and receive from Brian. Hi, Adam,
- 29:00I thought i'd drop you a line and tell you about our unique listening
- 29:04situation. My wife and I are listening to the Modest Touch Matter while driving
- 29:10through real life Kingman, Arizona. This, along with the fact that we've
- 29:14made the trip several times between Vegas and Kingman, Len's an extra layer of
- 29:19realism and fond of this particular story. It's interesting slash depressing to know that
- 29:26the side roads haven't gotten any better in the years since this story originally aired.
- 29:33Well. Thanks so much for the email, Brian, and definitely a
- 29:37fun listening situation. I've often wanted to go and record one of these programs
- 29:47in the city where it was, where it was actually set. It was
- 29:52something that I had the idea to do early on, but just because of
- 29:59not getting actual sponsors for the show, didn't actually pan out. But maybe
- 30:03one of these days. Thanks so much, Brian, and that does remind
- 30:08us. The listener support campaign is coming up and we'll have some exciting additional
- 30:15features this year, with some more physical posit or thank you gifts available.
- 30:23One thing we're also going to do is play some previews. You know,
- 30:26we've got so many shows to get to and so we will play one episode
- 30:34a show of your choice, three weeks in a row in the month of
- 30:37February. And basically what I need from listeners is to email me at Box
- 30:44thirteen at Great Detectives dot net with the name of a program we've not played
- 30:49on the series before and it's not one we're about to play. So we
- 30:53won't do the Saint or Dragnet or Pursuit since we're going to be playing those
- 31:00shows anyway fairly quickly, or Philip Marlowe. But if you want Richard Diamond
- 31:07or Broadways my Beat, or you'd like to hear Mysteries, my Hobby,
- 31:11anything we haven't played and we've got on the Big List, just email me
- 31:17at big List dot great or actually that's big List dot Great Detectors dot net.
- 31:22It's the address the web address, and send your comments to Box thirteen
- 31:26at Great detectors dot net, and I don't really also look at the kind
- 31:30of quality and not necessarily just the quantity. But if you've got a good
- 31:36argument or you've got a good case for why you like this series that we
- 31:40intend to eventually play but don't quite have it on our list yet, just
- 31:45send it to me Box thirteen at Great Detectors dot net. All right,
- 31:48well, that will do it for today. Join us back here tomorrow for
- 31:51the Casebook of Gregory Hood and we continue on with the Open Town matter on
- 31:56Wednesday. In the meantime, sendor comments to Box thirteen ratedetectives dot net,
