Latest / Foul Territory / FT Postgame Reax w/Buck Showalter: Game 7 is happening! Dodgers put a lid on tense Game 6, What’s next?
Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Of course there is a game seven during a world
- 0:08Speaker 1: series like this, it's been epic.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Scotty Brown aircrats.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Buck show Walter with us for a little buck to
- 0:14Speaker 1: overtalk Buck, let's first recap what we saw here in
- 0:18Speaker 1: game six? Your thoughts to the ending of this one
- 0:21Speaker 1: as a long time former skipper, Well.
- 0:25Speaker 3: My first thought is can Glass now pitch tomorrow? What
- 0:27Speaker 3: do you throw three pitches for?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Thank you guess that's.
- 0:32Speaker 3: My first thought. I think everybody's on Beck. You know,
- 0:35Speaker 3: I understand the base from you know, you're trying to
- 0:37Speaker 3: score on this things even though there's one out and
- 0:39Speaker 3: you just get a bad read. But my first thought
- 0:42Speaker 3: is how the three or four plays that Rojas made tonight?
- 0:46Speaker 3: You know how hard that pick is that he made
- 0:48Speaker 3: to end the game and he caught. You know, Eric
- 0:50Speaker 3: and I were talking about before he went on the air,
- 0:52Speaker 3: the two rockets he had hit at him that looked
- 0:55Speaker 3: like routine plays that are so hard with people on base.
- 0:59Speaker 3: And he may not have got in three or four
- 1:00Speaker 3: hits and made a big contribution, but boy, what a
- 1:03Speaker 3: contribution he made defensively. What'd you guys.
- 1:05Speaker 4: See same same You're sitting there going is this gonna
- 1:12Speaker 4: work out offensively. Well, what did it show you? Nope,
- 1:15Speaker 4: it didn't. But to me, I think it's it has
- 1:20Speaker 4: the potential to work out offensively, and you're not getting
- 1:24Speaker 4: downgraded at all. Maybe. I mean, I can't say Miguel
- 1:28Speaker 4: Rojas is better than Tommy Edmond at second because Tommy
- 1:30Speaker 4: Edmond does have a gold glove at second base, but
- 1:34Speaker 4: the potential to like make a good swing put the
- 1:38Speaker 4: ball in play. I love this move. I loved it.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I loved everything. Dave Roberts hit was perfect.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You know, Eric, What's funny but is, unless you've been
- 1:47Speaker 3: in a locker room and you understand the status that
- 1:50Speaker 3: a guy like him carries and you need a little
- 1:52Speaker 3: bit of a calming influence in a game like this
- 1:55Speaker 3: of win or go home, and to have his presence
- 1:58Speaker 3: on the field, that's something you can't look at analytically.
- 2:01Speaker 3: It's a feel thing that you know what he's gonna
- 2:04Speaker 3: mean from a calming influence to some of those players,
- 2:07Speaker 3: they'rether thing I saw too. They made a big deal
- 2:09Speaker 3: about Moogie Bets dropping from third to fourth. Wait a minute,
- 2:13Speaker 3: the guy's hitting clean up in the World Series. It's
- 2:16Speaker 3: not I like their batting order better because it presents
- 2:19Speaker 3: more problems for the bullpen because of the left right
- 2:23Speaker 3: that they lined up with as opposed to the back
- 2:25Speaker 3: to back guys that are certain that one pitcher can
- 2:28Speaker 3: face in a key situation. By splitting those guys up,
- 2:32Speaker 3: it actually made it tougher for Toronto's bullpen.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Wait, Buck, I'm looking up on my analytics status sheet here. No, no, no, no,
- 2:42Speaker 4: there's there's no place for a guy like Miguel Row
- 2:44Speaker 4: Like his numbers don't say he should be in there,
- 2:48Speaker 4: So there's I don't I don't know what you're talking about. Buck. Sorry, Sorry,
- 2:52Speaker 4: it doesn't work out, does it.
- 2:54Speaker 3: You know, the biggest biggest challenge in the game nowadays
- 2:56Speaker 3: is evaluating the impact of defense proper You know, all
- 3:01Speaker 3: you got to do is look at some of the
- 3:02Speaker 3: Gold Glove finalists and you go him really so, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 3: however they're equiting it. I've always said, if you want
- 3:09Speaker 3: a job for life in baseball, learn how to properly
- 3:12Speaker 3: equate the good defenders. I think the Fielding Bible had
- 3:16Speaker 3: it right for a while. They were the closest to
- 3:19Speaker 3: being correct as I've seen in a while. That's another
- 3:22Speaker 3: subject for another The other thing that hit me is
- 3:24Speaker 3: how good a player Will Smith is. We didn't play
- 3:26Speaker 3: them a whole lot, but every time we played them,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I went, this guy can really play. First round pick
- 3:31Speaker 3: out of Louisville. He gets a lot of key at
- 3:34Speaker 3: bats for them. When you've got a catcher that can
- 3:36Speaker 3: hit fourth, you're so much ahead of the other team's offense.
- 3:41Speaker 1: But first off, I was I was laughing. I was
- 3:44Speaker 1: laughing about what you said. Yeah, you look at some
- 3:46Speaker 1: Gold Glove finalist situations, and lucky for us, we do
- 3:50Speaker 1: two hours every day so we get to have fun
- 3:52Speaker 1: with that.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But I am so with you.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I want to get right to how a wedgie ball
- 3:57Speaker 1: might have decided the fate of this ski.
- 4:01Speaker 3: That's what I told before we came home. As soon
- 4:04Speaker 3: as it was yeah, I said, the Dodgers might win
- 4:06Speaker 3: the whole world. Service was the ball got stuck in
- 4:08Speaker 3: the wedge. We got a multi billion dollar industry. Why
- 4:12Speaker 3: can't we get feels where stuff goes all the way
- 4:15Speaker 3: to the bottom and that can't happen. We probably got
- 4:18Speaker 3: a top ball game if that ball doesn't get wedged
- 4:21Speaker 3: in there eventually. In that any that's the line right there.
- 4:25Speaker 1: We need to make sure the world here's that line,
- 4:29Speaker 1: because the Dodgers go on the road to Toronto Crats
- 4:34Speaker 1: where somehow we can't just fill the very bottom and
- 4:38Speaker 1: there is a chance that balls can get stuck there.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's the bottom layer, guys. I don't know if you're
- 4:44Speaker 1: aware of this. They didn't estimate it's a billion dollars now,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm kidding. I mean, it probably costs like ten grand
- 4:49Speaker 1: to fill the bottom.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I don't know why they do that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You know, you always hear oh craps the nukes and
- 4:54Speaker 1: crannies of the ballpark for that though.
- 4:57Speaker 4: No, that's not a nooks and cranny's thing. That's just
- 5:00Speaker 4: a we didn't finish it thing. And hey, the new
- 5:04Speaker 4: renovations they look nice, Buck. Didn't you see how many
- 5:07Speaker 4: suites they put in in the stadium. There's so many
- 5:10Speaker 4: more sweets. It's so much better fan experience. Wouldn't it
- 5:14Speaker 4: have been a great fan experience if that ball hits
- 5:17Speaker 4: hard and Barger's on third in a three to two
- 5:20Speaker 4: game with nobody out.
- 5:21Speaker 3: You know what's funny is that a lot of these
- 5:23Speaker 3: places they play other sports and other events there, so
- 5:27Speaker 3: that's stuff. That stuff comes down and they have to
- 5:29Speaker 3: put it back up at some point, you know, to
- 5:32Speaker 3: get back into baseball mode. I'm not sure. I know
- 5:35Speaker 3: it used to be that way when the Argonauts played there.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I don't know if there's another team playing there now,
- 5:40Speaker 3: or if they have a concert or something in that venue,
- 5:43Speaker 3: they have to take that stuff down a lot of
- 5:45Speaker 3: times and put it back up. So, you know, we
- 5:47Speaker 3: used to be such sticklers about spring training making it safe.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And I love the fact that it's padded, but you know,
- 5:54Speaker 3: that's that's one that I just go, wow, we we
- 5:57Speaker 3: shouldn't have that as part of the elements. It's like,
- 6:00Speaker 3: you know, Eric, you go into certain ballparks, why aren't
- 6:02Speaker 3: all the hitting backgrounds uniform? Why do you go to
- 6:05Speaker 3: Fenway Park in a left hand and with a left
- 6:07Speaker 3: handed pitcher in a day game and you can't see?
- 6:10Speaker 3: I mean, why aren't all our hitting backgrounds uniform? Okay,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I'm done, I'm done.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Wait wait, there's a fresh tweet from a center fielder
- 6:19Speaker 1: who I know, you.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Know and love.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It came out actual seconds ago, Adam Jones tweet Uck
- 6:28Speaker 1: Shoal Walter had us read the entire rule book when
- 6:32Speaker 1: he got the job in Baltimore.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Reason was quote. I need you to know your field
- 6:36Speaker 2: of work and always be prepared. Nothing should surprise you.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Are you an expert of your work or just do
- 6:45Speaker 1: I mean, we're talking about this play and our buddy
- 6:48Speaker 1: Adam literally tweets that, and he's probably who.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Knows where around the world.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So James Dean's got to get a lot of credit here, right,
- 6:55Speaker 1: wouldn't you be going up to him first?
- 6:57Speaker 2: If you're Doc Roberts, like, there you go.
- 7:01Speaker 3: You know, we used to I used to catch a
- 7:02Speaker 3: lot of green. But we would go over one or
- 7:04Speaker 3: two rules every spring in the morning, like two guys
- 7:07Speaker 3: standing on third base, who's out? Who's not out? Hey?
- 7:10Speaker 3: To fine? What an infield flyery? What is it? Really?
- 7:13Speaker 3: You know? Okay? What is running in a lane? Constitute
- 7:16Speaker 3: if you're on the line or you're in the lane
- 7:17Speaker 3: or you're not in the lane. But the more we
- 7:19Speaker 3: went into them, the more I realize that a lot
- 7:22Speaker 3: of people, including some coaches, didn't really know the rules.
- 7:25Speaker 3: And hey, I learned something every spring too, because one
- 7:28Speaker 3: they changed a lot. But it's amazing to me that
- 7:31Speaker 3: you know, this isn't really a rule, but it's just
- 7:34Speaker 3: a you know, one thing you should have your home ballpark,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and really all the ballparks should be uniform. There should
- 7:42Speaker 3: be certain quality control. Your batting cages should all be
- 7:46Speaker 3: the same. Your mounds, if you think the mounds, Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 3: they go them around and measure them. But I've always
- 7:52Speaker 3: been paranoid about them tweaking them. Say you're throwing half
- 7:55Speaker 3: a foot shorter in the visiting bullpen. Always, we always
- 8:00Speaker 3: measured them. First time we go into a visiting ballpark,
- 8:02Speaker 3: we would measure the bullpens to make sure they were
- 8:04Speaker 3: the same distance.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Well, Buck, what do you say to your outfielders for
- 8:10Speaker 1: executing that perfectly? Because hey, I'm sure you know without
- 8:16Speaker 1: naming names, some players that you've managed or some that
- 8:19Speaker 1: you watch in today's.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Game, who would have not done the right thing in.
- 8:23Speaker 1: A crazy pressure situation in Toronto where it's loud as
- 8:27Speaker 1: hell and you don't know that ballpark as well as
- 8:30Speaker 1: your home park.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Well, if you if you go in there and dig
- 8:33Speaker 3: that ball out Eric from the get go, you know,
- 8:35Speaker 3: and not give them a chance to do that, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 3: putting the hands up and then go in and get it.
- 8:39Speaker 3: But if they can replay, I think they would have
- 8:42Speaker 3: come back and gotten it right in today's game, they
- 8:44Speaker 3: would have said, Okay, that's a wedge ball. But you know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: sometimes I think you should just play it if you can,
- 8:50Speaker 3: if you can grab it, you should play it. You know,
- 8:53Speaker 3: it's part of the part of the game. But I
- 8:56Speaker 3: think that that that's got a chance to go down
- 8:59Speaker 3: as the wedgie ball that calls that hurt him in
- 9:02Speaker 3: the World Series.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I hope not Buck tell me if I'm wrong, But
- 9:05Speaker 4: the way I understand the rule, he goes in there
- 9:08Speaker 4: without putting his hands up. There's no replay. That is
- 9:11Speaker 4: a that is a played live ball. Am I correct?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I think I think they would have called it come
- 9:16Speaker 3: back because they've got the outfield umpire that saw it.
- 9:19Speaker 3: They were calling it fairly quickly. But I think that
- 9:22Speaker 3: the trailer, I think it might have been the other
- 9:25Speaker 3: outfielder and the outfielder both had their hands up and
- 9:28Speaker 3: then they went and got it because they're a paranoid
- 9:30Speaker 3: that they won't call it. But I think in the
- 9:32Speaker 3: day's world replay would have come back and got that
- 9:34Speaker 3: right in place. For runners, you know, you don't have
- 9:36Speaker 3: to you don't have to not score the runner at third.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Let's say he was running on that pitch. When was
- 9:42Speaker 3: rounding second, when it you know, got over the infield,
- 9:46Speaker 3: you know he's going to score easily. They can give
- 9:48Speaker 3: him home.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Play because it didn't go out of play. It's it's
- 9:52Speaker 4: umpire's discretion on that one.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, hey, quick call out.
- 9:57Speaker 1: And then I want to get to pitching decision from
- 10:00Speaker 1: game six eventually. Of course we're going to spin it
- 10:03Speaker 1: to game seven for the end of our conversation, but
- 10:06Speaker 1: please subscribe to file Territory if you're watching right now,
- 10:09Speaker 1: that would be great, or if you're watching this on
- 10:12Speaker 1: demand a little bit later on Baseball the way it
- 10:14Speaker 1: should be covered, a nice little postgame show for you
- 10:16Speaker 1: after a crazy Game seven finish or Game six finish.
- 10:21Speaker 1: In Game seven, we're gonna talk about in a moment,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but let's get to pitching decisions.
- 10:24Speaker 2: First off.
- 10:25Speaker 1: In Game six, Buck, do you like the way that
- 10:28Speaker 1: Doc Roberts navigated his pitching situation. He does not have
- 10:32Speaker 1: the easiest bullpen setup, it's no secret. And Yamamoto is
- 10:37Speaker 1: a CG guy. We were getting used to see him
- 10:40Speaker 1: in the night. When I didn't see him come out
- 10:42Speaker 1: after six, I was like, wait, what seventh inning, he's
- 10:45Speaker 1: already out? Were you okay with that, and then the
- 10:48Speaker 1: rest of the way they won the game. I get that,
- 10:51Speaker 1: but would you have let him eat another inning and
- 10:54Speaker 1: get to one hundred and fifteen pitches?
- 10:56Speaker 3: You know, I'm so careful about you know, I'm not
- 10:58Speaker 3: going to tell the pilot how to lie on a plane.
- 11:00Speaker 3: There's so many things going on behind the scenes that
- 11:03Speaker 3: we may not know about what he may have told
- 11:05Speaker 3: them or his interpreter whatever. So you don't know everything
- 11:09Speaker 3: was going on there. And you know they've seen him
- 11:11Speaker 3: a lot, and I don't know what was said between innings.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I think Eric was that you and I were talking
- 11:16Speaker 3: earlier day that I think his last an outing not
- 11:19Speaker 3: too long ago in Japan, he threw one hundred and
- 11:21Speaker 3: thirty eight pitches. I mean, normally this guy's just getting
- 11:24Speaker 3: loose at ninety five.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he's obviously they didn't run him like
- 11:31Speaker 4: that during during the season, but I mean Dave Roberts
- 11:34Speaker 4: even said early in the posting, He's like, this is
- 11:36Speaker 4: what like we we were, Okay, we built him up
- 11:39Speaker 4: to be at this spot right now. I think he's
- 11:42Speaker 4: talking about thing he was talking about Blake Snell when
- 11:45Speaker 4: he was talking about that and Yamamoto's come up big.
- 11:48Speaker 4: I could not have been more surprised when he came
- 11:51Speaker 4: out with ninety six pitches. I mean they had to
- 11:53Speaker 4: have either seen something or they went and you know
- 11:58Speaker 4: they were like, Okay, we pushed you last time, we
- 12:00Speaker 4: don't want to push you again.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, something could have been said between any you know,
- 12:05Speaker 3: it's you know, I've had the interpreter walk over to
- 12:08Speaker 3: me and say, Singer, I had, you know, different guys.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I've had Coagi Yohara and just said, hey, he's not
- 12:15Speaker 3: He's done, and you have to wear that as a manager.
- 12:19Speaker 3: But it worked out well. You know that you made
- 12:21Speaker 3: a good point, Eric, that they are without two of
- 12:24Speaker 3: their better left handed two relievers in this in this series,
- 12:28Speaker 3: and I think that kind of goes unnoticed. I tell
- 12:31Speaker 3: you what Bassett through tonight, that that paints tomorrow with
- 12:34Speaker 3: Max in a little different different light. But if I know, Chris, Chris,
- 12:38Speaker 3: one of my favorite pictures I've had you talking about
- 12:41Speaker 3: a baseball player who happens to be a pitcher instead
- 12:44Speaker 3: of a pitcher who happens to be a baseball player.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I did you see that?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Sorry? Sorry Scott, did you see ah Man? Who was it?
- 12:54Speaker 4: Lefty was up for the Dodgers anyway, and Bassett was like,
- 13:00Speaker 4: Bassett looked over Ernie. He's like Ernie. Ernie Clement was
- 13:03Speaker 4: in for the bunt, and he was like, Ernie, get back.
- 13:06Speaker 4: The first pitch was a rocket to the left, foul
- 13:09Speaker 4: ball the left field. Like, that's the kind of stuff
- 13:11Speaker 4: to me that shows he knows what he needs to do.
- 13:16Speaker 3: He's a baseball player. And Chris is such a good
- 13:18Speaker 3: fielding pitcher. He's basically saying, I got that. If they
- 13:21Speaker 3: want to bunt this pitch, you know, the too sooner
- 13:24Speaker 3: he's got that runs across the plate so hard to
- 13:27Speaker 3: bunt anyway. And Chris is basically saying, if they want
- 13:30Speaker 3: to bunt in this situation, I got it. You played
- 13:32Speaker 3: back there and defend the bat. And that's why I said,
- 13:34Speaker 3: he's a baseball player who happens to be a pitcher.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Thirteen pitches for Bassett. Tomorrow, again, we're going to get
- 13:41Speaker 1: to Game seven. We're just going to do a few
- 13:43Speaker 1: more minutes on Game six and then we will load
- 13:45Speaker 1: up on what we think is going to go down
- 13:48Speaker 1: in Game seven.
- 13:49Speaker 2: What did you think of the.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Dodgers finally putting up a crooked number buck. I mean,
- 13:53Speaker 1: their offense had been a big storyline, and they put
- 13:56Speaker 1: up three in the third and that was all they need.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And Mookie Betts was kind of the face of the
- 14:01Speaker 1: struggles and very vocal about it. Rips it, two strike,
- 14:05Speaker 1: two run, single through the left side, makes it three
- 14:07Speaker 1: to nothing, three consecutive fastballs up, gets on top of one.
- 14:11Speaker 1: He had been in a three for twenty four slump
- 14:14Speaker 1: in the World Series, and he comes through with the
- 14:15Speaker 1: biggest hit of the game.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah. I like how they said, and they dropped him
- 14:20Speaker 3: to the cleanup spot, like they really dropped him way down,
- 14:23Speaker 3: you know, boot Mookie is one of my favorite best
- 14:26Speaker 3: right fielder I've ever seen. The way he played Fenway
- 14:29Speaker 3: Park right field. That is such a hard right field
- 14:31Speaker 3: to play, but he's you know, he's such an athletic guy.
- 14:36Speaker 3: And the ability to go from right field to second
- 14:38Speaker 3: base to shortstop and play at such a good level.
- 14:41Speaker 3: You know, we talk about all the stuff that O'tani
- 14:43Speaker 3: can do, you know, to be able to play right
- 14:45Speaker 3: field at that level and play shortstop for a championship team,
- 14:50Speaker 3: that's just amazing. I remember the first time I saw
- 14:52Speaker 3: Mookie Betts that we were in I don't know the
- 14:55Speaker 3: Fall League, and I remember this kid sat down and
- 14:57Speaker 3: ate with me and I called Brian Butterfield. The Red
- 14:59Speaker 3: Sox said, you know some guy named Mookie Bets. He goes, yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 3: I've heard these pretty good players. I said, you might
- 15:05Speaker 3: want to get to know him because sitting down and
- 15:07Speaker 3: having lunch with him, he's pretty special. And that was
- 15:14Speaker 3: just getting to know him as a person. But you know,
- 15:17Speaker 3: anybody that doubts the heart of a guy like Mookie,
- 15:19Speaker 3: he's never going to give in. And I think people
- 15:22Speaker 3: miss how good the pitching is. This time of year,
- 15:25Speaker 3: you're facing so good hitters are going to have peerods
- 15:28Speaker 3: where they don't look real accomplished so to speak.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Chrass, did you feel like he clicked it back in?
- 15:34Speaker 1: We talked a lot about his swing today on afternoon FT.
- 15:40Speaker 4: On that swing? Yeah, I mean, how did he get
- 15:42Speaker 4: to that spot? Because they blew two fast balls by him.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I get it, he's in a slump. I get it
- 15:48Speaker 4: they've been getting him out. I think they went to
- 15:50Speaker 4: the well won too many times and MOOKI made the
- 15:52Speaker 4: adjustment on that pitch. I think it will show what happens.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I mean later in the game. They threw him hanging
- 16:00Speaker 4: slider that kind of backed up, and I know he
- 16:03Speaker 4: took it, and I know he kind of like flinched
- 16:05Speaker 4: at it, but it was he was late on it.
- 16:08Speaker 4: He was late, and as he did it, it was
- 16:11Speaker 4: like a man like. I still got to see Mookie
- 16:14Speaker 4: get the ball out in front consistently. I want to
- 16:16Speaker 4: see foul balls out in front, just like he pulled
- 16:20Speaker 4: that heater up and in.
- 16:22Speaker 3: You know, you know, the great hitters can turn the
- 16:24Speaker 3: clock up. They can. They know after taking a pitch
- 16:28Speaker 3: or falling off a pitch. Hey, I've got to turn
- 16:30Speaker 3: that dial up a little bit on that now. And
- 16:32Speaker 3: like Eric said, it makes you more susceptible to an
- 16:35Speaker 3: all speed pitch. But they pretty much showed him how
- 16:37Speaker 3: they're trying to get him out and have been getting
- 16:39Speaker 3: him out. But they know they have to turn the
- 16:42Speaker 3: clock up a little bit. They just have an innate
- 16:45Speaker 3: feel for it.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Hey, about last thing on game six, then we'll talk
- 16:49Speaker 1: strategy for game seven. We're actually showing some Kevin Gosman
- 16:53Speaker 1: in here. You managed him. I covered him a good
- 16:55Speaker 1: amount when he was with Baltimore in his early days.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You know, top pick for strander out of LSU, the
- 17:01Speaker 1: whole deal. He is such a different human being in
- 17:04Speaker 1: every level, in every way. You know this way better
- 17:07Speaker 1: than I do. But that should tell it all I
- 17:10Speaker 1: can tell from covering him from the outside. What can
- 17:12Speaker 1: you tell us about what you've seen from him? I
- 17:14Speaker 1: know they lost the game, but he kept him in it.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I'm so proud of Kevin. He's you know, it's funny.
- 17:20Speaker 3: We were watching the game after trick or treating with
- 17:22Speaker 3: our grand sons and my wife said to me, she says, boy,
- 17:26Speaker 3: Kevin's come a long way. He is so different now,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and not different necessarily stuff wise, but he's got just
- 17:33Speaker 3: such a better face and such a better presentation of
- 17:38Speaker 3: confidence on the mail and you know, it's it's fire,
- 17:42Speaker 3: but it's control fire.
- 17:43Speaker 4: You know.
- 17:43Speaker 3: You can tell he's competitive and he knows he can
- 17:46Speaker 3: do this, but he knows there's a fine line there.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I'm so proud of the way he's developed as a
- 17:52Speaker 3: pitcher and as a competitor. Not that he wasn't competitive,
- 17:55Speaker 3: It just I remember telling him, Kevin, you know how
- 17:57Speaker 3: good you are and how good you can be. You know,
- 18:00Speaker 3: don't let you know. These are the best players in
- 18:02Speaker 3: the world. Don't let any thing out there that happens
- 18:05Speaker 3: take away your confidence level that you can do this.
- 18:10Speaker 3: You can you can really do this. And he's really
- 18:13Speaker 3: evolved into a frontline guy, you know, having guys like
- 18:16Speaker 3: Bassett Insures are around him, you know, he's really graduated
- 18:20Speaker 3: to a solid major league guy you can count on.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he's part of the splitter revolution that
- 18:27Speaker 1: is really in full force right now in the postseason.
- 18:30Speaker 2: It's been fun to watch and I'm with you.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I mean, just from covering him, you see the confidence
- 18:34Speaker 1: factor through the roof these days, every time he walks
- 18:37Speaker 1: on the mound chucking the gum. It's just it's a
- 18:40Speaker 1: fun watch and you know he feels like, not just
- 18:43Speaker 1: I belong here, but I'm going to dominate. And in
- 18:46Speaker 1: the beginning of the game that was as good as
- 18:47Speaker 1: it gets. I think we had never seen h strikeouts
- 18:49Speaker 1: through three innings from a starting pitcher to start a
- 18:52Speaker 1: World Series game.
- 18:53Speaker 2: So credit to the Dodgers.
- 18:55Speaker 1: They got to him, they got just enough, and they
- 18:57Speaker 1: out pitched Toronto. But it was definitely cool. So now
- 19:00Speaker 1: here we go. All right, let's set the stage. You
- 19:02Speaker 1: got one word before, Yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Just want I'm going to go back to Adam Jones
- 19:07Speaker 3: tweet or whatever y'all call it, is that what it
- 19:09Speaker 3: is a tweet? I don't yeh okay, But Adam has
- 19:13Speaker 3: such a curiosity. Here's a guy that was a major league,
- 19:15Speaker 3: established veteran, but he had a curiosity about the rules,
- 19:18Speaker 3: about ways to other ways to do things. And the
- 19:21Speaker 3: great players have a curiosity. You know. He wasn't afraid.
- 19:25Speaker 3: He was that guy that would raise his hand and
- 19:27Speaker 3: ask a question, regardless of how he was asking the
- 19:30Speaker 3: question that everybody else wanted to ask, but we're afraid
- 19:33Speaker 3: to ask. Adam was never afraid, and that's why he
- 19:35Speaker 3: was such a great player. Is he always had a
- 19:37Speaker 3: curiosity for ways to get better. And that's why I
- 19:40Speaker 3: had so much respect for him. So tonight's tweet doesn't
- 19:45Speaker 3: surprise me because Adam is a student of the game.
- 19:49Speaker 1: He's fired up looking at that. I love it, and
- 19:51Speaker 1: he wears it on his Twitter feed in a good way.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I mean, he'll let you know how he's feeling good
- 19:56Speaker 1: or bad every day. So that's good stuff. Adam's are, buddy,
- 19:59Speaker 1: He's been on here many times. Okay, So Game seven winner,
- 20:03Speaker 1: take all best two words in sports. Game seven live
- 20:07Speaker 1: on the ft YouTube channel. Afterward, we will have a
- 20:10Speaker 1: postgame show. Kratz will beyond, Trevor May will be on.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It's going to be nuts. So now let's spin it forward. Okay, Buck,
- 20:18Speaker 1: tell me everything we need to know heading into game seven,
- 20:21Speaker 1: starting with strategy.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Like you said, you think glass Naw's going out.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they kept his pitches to a minimum
- 20:28Speaker 1: that he can be a big factor. I think we
- 20:30Speaker 1: should start with shoe Otani though. I mean, this is
- 20:32Speaker 1: the most unique player we've seen in our generation, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: how are you going to use him in game seven?
- 20:40Speaker 1: They said he wasn't available for game six, but he's
- 20:42Speaker 1: available for game seven.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Well we think he is. You know, you never you know,
- 20:48Speaker 3: dealing with the players from different cultures and different backgrounds.
- 20:52Speaker 3: You know, and Dave and them know these guys, You've
- 20:54Speaker 3: been with them too long, so you know what their
- 20:56Speaker 3: buttons are. And there's not a whole lot of surprises
- 20:59Speaker 3: this time year. But he I suspect he'll be ready.
- 21:04Speaker 3: It'll be interesting to see if they you know, they're
- 21:05Speaker 3: gonna sit down tonight after the smoke clears, and they're
- 21:08Speaker 3: going to talk about what they can and what's because
- 21:11Speaker 3: talking to players right now after the game with that
- 21:14Speaker 3: much juice flying around is probably not a good idea.
- 21:17Speaker 3: It's more about presenting scenarios and then approaching the players
- 21:21Speaker 3: because you do need to let them know how you're
- 21:24Speaker 3: going to use them. But immediately after the game is
- 21:26Speaker 3: not a good time to talk about because they're all
- 21:28Speaker 3: going to have this bravado going on and then they
- 21:31Speaker 3: wake up tomorrow. I'll tell you. The first thing that
- 21:33Speaker 3: hits me, Eric is playoff shares. Going seven games a
- 21:39Speaker 3: little bit better? Playoff shares for everybody.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean we actually talked about that the
- 21:45Speaker 4: top the first four games. The first four games go
- 21:47Speaker 4: to the players, the last three go to the teams.
- 21:50Speaker 4: The teams are like, so maybe whoever wins gets a
- 21:53Speaker 4: nicer ring. But my question to you, Buck Show, Hey,
- 21:58Speaker 4: do you just go like this. Do you just give
- 22:00Speaker 4: him the ball and he says, I got your skip
- 22:04Speaker 4: and you let him run?
- 22:06Speaker 3: What if what if you go start to hand it
- 22:08Speaker 3: to him he goes, no, I don't think so. Maybe
- 22:10Speaker 3: later in the game you gotta be careful about put
- 22:12Speaker 3: pushing him into something he doesn't want to do. I'd
- 22:15Speaker 3: be surprised if that's not the case, I'd be surprised
- 22:18Speaker 3: that it may be glass Now with him picking him up.
- 22:22Speaker 3: You know, who knows. You know, glass Now basically had
- 22:24Speaker 3: a work day today, because I know he didn't have
- 22:26Speaker 3: a workday at any point today. So that outing the
- 22:30Speaker 3: problem is they don't have a day off, but a
- 22:33Speaker 3: lot of guys two days before they pitch have a workday.
- 22:36Speaker 3: So you know, I think their choices are glass Now
- 22:39Speaker 3: or Tani, but both of them are going to pitch
- 22:41Speaker 3: in that game tomorrow.
- 22:43Speaker 4: The rule, the rule that Major League Baseball has out there,
- 22:45Speaker 4: there's no way, in my opinion, there's no way they
- 22:47Speaker 4: don't start show Hey, because if they go glass Now,
- 22:51Speaker 4: clearly they're fine with glass Now coming in out of
- 22:53Speaker 4: the pen, his long three pitch outing that he had tonight.
- 22:56Speaker 4: But to me, like you start show Hay and then
- 23:00Speaker 4: you go everybody else. You might you might say, I
- 23:03Speaker 4: get three from show Hey, I get you know, three
- 23:06Speaker 4: outs from show Hey, whatever it is. But I just
- 23:09Speaker 4: I don't see them trying to manipulate moving in the
- 23:13Speaker 4: right field after he comes in to relieve. But this
- 23:17Speaker 4: is this is the drama that we want show Hay
- 23:21Speaker 4: pitching in Game seven. We're gonna get it. I'm I'm
- 23:25Speaker 4: no doubt we're gonna get it.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You know, I've got one other question to ask you.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Would you be a little concern if you were Dave
- 23:32Speaker 3: Roberts about your so called closer tonight. I know that
- 23:36Speaker 3: you push the envelope on him with the second inning.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Do you feel any differently about him struggling somewhat tonight
- 23:44Speaker 3: about pitching at the end of the game.
- 23:46Speaker 4: The more my issue, and I know the team doesn't
- 23:49Speaker 4: strike out much. My issue with it is he had
- 23:53Speaker 4: a full inning pitch. There was an inning plus so
- 23:56Speaker 4: inning plus two hitters, so he faced five, six, seven,
- 24:01Speaker 4: seven hitters and zero.
- 24:05Speaker 3: What do you though about thirty pitches somewhere around there.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I'm not as concerned about the pitches. I'm concerned about
- 24:10Speaker 4: the fact that that splitter thing was not full of
- 24:14Speaker 4: them because it's not a splitter. It's a fork ball.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Let's just let's just be honest. It doesn't spin enough.
- 24:19Speaker 4: It's almost a knuckleball. It spins still little. But I'm
- 24:24Speaker 4: you have to go to them. Dave Roberts doesn't have
- 24:27Speaker 4: anything else. Dave Roberts can't get through tomorrow's game with
- 24:31Speaker 4: show Hey glass now Kershaw for one out, Like, where's
- 24:37Speaker 4: he gonna get his outs? Is my question, because that's
- 24:42Speaker 4: you know, that's on the manager. I'm just the player.
- 24:44Speaker 4: You're the manager, Buck.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And I don't know their players, but I agree.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I agree with you. I think you're gonna see, let's
- 24:51Speaker 3: see what we can get out of Otani. Let's see
- 24:53Speaker 3: how far we can take it, unless there's something in
- 24:56Speaker 3: the conversation in there that that sets it up differently.
- 24:59Speaker 3: They know their player and they know, you know, what's
- 25:02Speaker 3: being said. I try to give them that respect, but
- 25:05Speaker 3: it looks like that on paper. I agree with you.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I think Toronto's the one that you know. You got
- 25:11Speaker 3: Beaber there, you got Bassett will come back, and you
- 25:14Speaker 3: got Shureser. Don't ever underestimate, you know. I had a
- 25:17Speaker 3: number of people tell me before one of the games,
- 25:20Speaker 3: and I said, do not sell shures or short you know,
- 25:24Speaker 3: I'd like to know what his sleep. You know those
- 25:27Speaker 3: things you wear on your hand that tells you how
- 25:28Speaker 3: much sleep you got the night before. I wonder what
- 25:31Speaker 3: Shres is gonna look like tonight.
- 25:34Speaker 4: It's gonna look like this.
- 25:39Speaker 1: The thing's gonna break. What are you talking about? That
- 25:41Speaker 1: thing broke? If you try and put anything on him,
- 25:43Speaker 1: it will break. He probably will chuck it against the ball.
- 25:46Speaker 1: He's so excited.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Without giving up too much information, I know Max too well.
- 25:50Speaker 3: He's got a complete ritual the night before he pitches
- 25:55Speaker 3: that he does getting his sleep. He I tell you what,
- 25:59Speaker 3: you want to catch the wrath somehow get to his
- 26:03Speaker 3: room and disrupt his routine of sleeping the night before
- 26:06Speaker 3: a game. He's got it down to the science.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure. And he's been doing it for a while.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Okay, So in a perfect world, if the Dodgers win,
- 26:16Speaker 1: Dave Roberts is like, cool, I get three or four
- 26:18Speaker 1: out of show.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Hey, I get four or five out of glass.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Now that's it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Maybe I needed Rokie for one at the buzzer and
- 26:27Speaker 1: on the Toronto side.
- 26:28Speaker 2: What's the perfect world?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Is it?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Max?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Then handing the ball to Bieber, then handing the ball
- 26:35Speaker 1: to Bassett and maybe Hoffman if you need.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yep, I agree with you. That's about the way I
- 26:41Speaker 3: see it. How do you see it?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Eric, I actually might flip it. I might flip it.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I don't know that. Max. Obviously a conversation. These are
- 26:50Speaker 4: buck conversations that are happening throughout the playoffs and the season.
- 26:55Speaker 4: I might go Bieber. I might go Bieber fever started
- 26:59Speaker 4: out and then Max.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Well, that means Bieber is going to start on short
- 27:04Speaker 3: rest and Max is coming off normal rest, right, yep.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Because I'm thinking I'm getting more out of Max, and
- 27:12Speaker 4: I'm okay, getting more out of my second guy in
- 27:16Speaker 4: than my first guy because my first guy runs into
- 27:20Speaker 4: runs into anything. Now I have a short guy behind him,
- 27:23Speaker 4: and I have more length in Max, and Max has
- 27:26Speaker 4: an opportunity to get in the flow of the game.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I think you got to ask yourself who would handle
- 27:34Speaker 3: relieving better, because it's a whole different cat for guys
- 27:38Speaker 3: like Max and Bieber and Bassett who have always been
- 27:42Speaker 3: starters for the most part. Bassett's had some experience with
- 27:45Speaker 3: it now, but Max, and you know, Max, pitching's pitching
- 27:49Speaker 3: to Max. Whether you tell you tell me what in
- 27:51Speaker 3: and I'm pitching. Let's go. But there's a tough conversation
- 27:55Speaker 3: if you want to go tell Max that somebody else
- 27:57Speaker 3: is starting. Good luck good.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And John Schneider doesn't want that smoke. He's already talked
- 28:04Speaker 1: about it. That's why I said what I said. I said,
- 28:07Speaker 1: Ohtani to Glass. Now, I said, sureser to Bieber, and
- 28:11Speaker 1: then we talk about Bassett and of course my favorite.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I was going to save this for the end, but
- 28:17Speaker 1: every day Louis Ireland will figure out a way to
- 28:19Speaker 1: get in the game and set the record for usage
- 28:22Speaker 1: in a postseason. I think he just tied it at fourteen,
- 28:25Speaker 1: and fifteen would set the record. What about lineup changes, though, Buck,
- 28:29Speaker 1: what do you think of the way that the Dodgers
- 28:32Speaker 1: have tried to mix and match? So does Mookie stain
- 28:35Speaker 1: the four slot? Does Miguel Rojas get another start? And
- 28:38Speaker 1: then after that, let me know what you saw from
- 28:40Speaker 1: George Springer, who I'm assuming is good to go.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I mean, he had some big knocks for them.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Well, he had one he hit well. The other one
- 28:47Speaker 3: I thought was a beautiful thing. That tells you all
- 28:50Speaker 3: you need to know about Springer. Just put the ball
- 28:52Speaker 3: in play, get the barrel to it, and go, wow, look
- 28:54Speaker 3: what happened. I hit it down to first baseline. I
- 28:57Speaker 3: love that. That's one of my favorite bats of the
- 28:59Speaker 3: whole night. You know, I don't think you're going to
- 29:02Speaker 3: see much change with the Dodgers with I just want
- 29:06Speaker 3: to say again that starting Rojas tonight. I know that
- 29:10Speaker 3: wasn't in the analytical sheet that you get, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 3: and I just I think that the really interesting thing
- 29:18Speaker 3: tomorrow is to see whether he starts again tomorrow. I
- 29:21Speaker 3: think you will. What do you think, Eric?
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yes, I don't think they change a thing, but you can't.
- 29:27Speaker 4: You can't have this team bouncing in the clubhouse there.
- 29:31Speaker 4: They're gonna get to the field tomorrow at like eleven o'clock.
- 29:34Speaker 4: If they show up in the lineup says great job
- 29:39Speaker 4: last night. Guys, We're gonna go back to what we
- 29:41Speaker 4: had because Tommy Edmonds ankle feels better at second base. Sorry, Tommy,
- 29:47Speaker 4: we're gonna need to get you your ankle. The same
- 29:49Speaker 4: thing that Freddie Freeman had last year for the playoffs,
- 29:53Speaker 4: like we need to we need you back out there,
- 29:56Speaker 4: and Miggy Rowe, I appreciate you well. I'm gonna ho
- 30:00Speaker 4: another trophy.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I'd say an interesting thing to watch for tomorrow is Springer,
- 30:05Speaker 3: because I won't I would be surprised if he's not
- 30:07Speaker 3: real sore tomorrow when you've had some time off and
- 30:10Speaker 3: he's been taking some dry swings and some DP and
- 30:13Speaker 3: a little bit of hitting there. But there's nothing like
- 30:15Speaker 3: the level you game speed. I'd be surprised if he's
- 30:19Speaker 3: not sore tomorrow. Do I expect him to play, Yes?
- 30:22Speaker 3: But do I expect him to be uncomfortable? Yeah? I do.
- 30:29Speaker 1: A couple of notes from Dave Roberts here at the
- 30:31Speaker 1: finish line, he said rolling with the same lineup, not
- 30:35Speaker 1: announcing the starter yet because he wants to see where
- 30:39Speaker 1: Showhy is more comfortable.
- 30:40Speaker 2: My only question on that one is how can he
- 30:45Speaker 2: pitch in the middle of the game here.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Rast, I just don't want to give it up. They
- 30:48Speaker 4: just don't want to give it. They don't want any
- 30:50Speaker 4: I'm not letting the other team know the night before
- 30:53Speaker 4: they go to bed because me, I'm taking my computer
- 30:57Speaker 4: and I'm watching. I know, I know this guy, but
- 30:59Speaker 4: I'm watching every video. I'm watching every tendency because I'm
- 31:02Speaker 4: not gonna be a fall asleep. So if I I mean,
- 31:05Speaker 4: if you're the if you're the Blue Jays, to me,
- 31:07Speaker 4: I'm selling all out to the fact that show Hey's starting.
- 31:10Speaker 4: I don't see how they circumvent the rule. The only
- 31:13Speaker 4: question I would have, and this would be a ninety
- 31:15Speaker 4: nine point nine percent sure of what I just said.
- 31:18Speaker 4: The only question I have is I questioned that ball
- 31:22Speaker 4: by Will Smith when Show Hay was on First Show
- 31:25Speaker 4: Hay's speed is elite. I'm wondering if his legs are
- 31:29Speaker 4: not completely back because he did not score on that
- 31:32Speaker 4: ball down the left field line, and I thought that
- 31:35Speaker 4: was a sure to nothing game at that point because
- 31:40Speaker 4: that and they never showed him they because Show Hey
- 31:45Speaker 4: walks on water for the telecast, But to me, that
- 31:50Speaker 4: ball rattled around in left field, not for me to
- 31:54Speaker 4: score from First Show Hey's walking in there and he
- 31:57Speaker 4: did not. And I'm wondering if his leg aren't recuperating
- 32:01Speaker 4: because think about what he did. He took a cross
- 32:04Speaker 4: country flight, he pitched, he was on base in the
- 32:09Speaker 4: eighteen inning game nine times, and then they took another
- 32:13Speaker 4: cross country flight. The only reason you don't recover is
- 32:16Speaker 4: because inflammation is stuck somewhere where you don't want it.
- 32:21Speaker 4: I'm not saying it's his arm. I'm saying when you
- 32:24Speaker 4: don't run at your top speed like Show Hey, can
- 32:28Speaker 4: I just I wonder, I really wonder.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why. Just that's another reason why they're not
- 32:34Speaker 3: completely committing. Let me tell you, guys, another MVP this
- 32:38Speaker 3: time of the year. That's behind the scenes. I want
- 32:41Speaker 3: you to think through the Dodgers came to the ballpark tonight,
- 32:44Speaker 3: you know, not thinking about it, but realizing their season
- 32:47Speaker 3: could be over. Okay, let's talk the traveling secretary. First
- 32:51Speaker 3: of all, the hotel. You've got to figure out a
- 32:54Speaker 3: way that hey, you know, you basically say we're staying
- 32:58Speaker 3: here tonight, win loser draw. That was last night, so
- 33:02Speaker 3: they're going back to the hotel and if they had lost,
- 33:04Speaker 3: they would leave the next day. Now you got to
- 33:06Speaker 3: make sure that hotel is kept for tonight. And if
- 33:09Speaker 3: I was them, I would spend the night there, probably
- 33:11Speaker 3: tomorrow night, because by the time you get done with
- 33:14Speaker 3: that game, when loser draw and you got families with you,
- 33:18Speaker 3: the ability to be able to think on your feet
- 33:21Speaker 3: and maneuver quickly. For I mean, you've got probably one
- 33:25Speaker 3: hundred people traveling with them right now, maybe on two
- 33:27Speaker 3: different planes. And the ability to keep that and maneuver
- 33:31Speaker 3: around is when traveling secretaries really earn their money. And
- 33:34Speaker 3: that's what I'm thinking about this time of night, is
- 33:37Speaker 3: you're sitting there and there Dave Roberts not only is
- 33:39Speaker 3: making a decisions about pictures, but they're all making decisions
- 33:42Speaker 3: about the movement of the team. But that don't worry
- 33:45Speaker 3: about that.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It takes a village. The players have no idea what
- 33:49Speaker 4: they have to worry about. And Buck, this is not
- 33:53Speaker 4: Garrett Cole putting Raphael Devers on first. This is how
- 33:56Speaker 4: many planes the Dodgers have for the World Series. They have?
- 34:01Speaker 4: Really four?
- 34:01Speaker 3: Buck, come more for real, And we're worried about ten
- 34:06Speaker 3: thousand dollars for a padded.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Fence that doesn't let balls get wedged underneath it. No,
- 34:12Speaker 4: that's not that's This is how the Dodgers roll. And
- 34:14Speaker 4: they're not traveling secretaries anymore, Buck, they're directors of travel.
- 34:19Speaker 4: But I gotta ask you, Buck, since you asked me
- 34:21Speaker 4: all the questions, I have to ask you this question.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Elimination game quick hook compared to lane where you have
- 34:32Speaker 4: a pitcher pitching, compared to what your eyes are seeing
- 34:39Speaker 4: all the above.
- 34:40Speaker 3: You know, the quick cook is fine, but you're hooking
- 34:44Speaker 3: him for who I'm gonna tell you. You know, there's a
- 34:47Speaker 3: lot of managers would have stayed with the closer there.
- 34:50Speaker 3: But Dave Roberts said, Okay, you know I've got to
- 34:53Speaker 3: sometimes you got to change a little. You know what
- 34:55Speaker 3: in the gideo, you just got to throw something different
- 34:57Speaker 3: out there. And when they got to pop up there
- 35:02Speaker 3: to get the first out, you know, we were all
- 35:05Speaker 3: you and I were we were all talking here getting
- 35:07Speaker 3: ready for the post game, and went, oh, that's when
- 35:10Speaker 3: the first thought about the pad out there came up.
- 35:13Speaker 3: But you know, one pitch you can change the karma
- 35:17Speaker 3: of a game. So the quick hook is fine. Oh well,
- 35:21Speaker 3: you know we're not going to wait along around very long.
- 35:24Speaker 3: You know, it's pretty easy to tell if a guy's
- 35:26Speaker 3: got it sometimes there, if there's a fight at the
- 35:28Speaker 3: backrack to get in that bad end, you know he's not.
- 35:30Speaker 3: You don't really have to have some lane there. I
- 35:33Speaker 3: think the lane stuff you present your options and saying, okay,
- 35:38Speaker 3: we can quick hook this guy, but do we have
- 35:40Speaker 3: the people to cover the innings. But you know, you've
- 35:43Speaker 3: got so many guys pitching tomorrow that have had great outings,
- 35:48Speaker 3: and you just you've got to try to figure out
- 35:50Speaker 3: is this that night where they're not having that outing?
- 35:53Speaker 3: And that's where a feel comes into it, and that's
- 35:56Speaker 3: where the human heartbeat comes into play, and that's why
- 35:59Speaker 3: both these man as are managing in game seven.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Yeah, this is gonna be nuts. I'm so pumped Toronto.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You deserve this. Blue Jays fans had not seen World
- 36:10Speaker 1: Series baseball since nineteen ninety three.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Now you get it all.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You got a Game seven in Toronto for a chance
- 36:16Speaker 1: to win a title. The entertainment factors through the roof
- 36:20Speaker 1: and on the Dodgers side, fans are trying to see
- 36:23Speaker 1: back to back champs for the first time in about
- 36:25Speaker 1: a quarter century. The biggest weakness for the Dodgers. I mean,
- 36:29Speaker 1: you could make the case between the offense lately. Okay,
- 36:31Speaker 1: well you can win a three to one game again,
- 36:33Speaker 1: and the relievers. It doesn't matter that much. You got
- 36:37Speaker 1: good starters. Game seven, it gets nuts. It's called chaos.
- 36:41Speaker 2: For a reason. So this was good stuff. Guys.
- 36:44Speaker 3: I got a final question. Yeah, you get a ten
- 36:47Speaker 3: to thirty ring of your doorbell for a trick or treaters?
- 36:50Speaker 3: Do you answer or not? In Dallas, Texas?
- 36:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, do you have full sized candy bars?
- 36:56Speaker 3: Buck? Oh, we're down to the apple slices now.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Then you don't answer it, because that man that that
- 37:03Speaker 4: young man or woman is going to they're gonna put
- 37:06Speaker 4: toilet paper in your at ten thirty. The kids who
- 37:10Speaker 4: are gonna eat the apple slices. No, no, they're not
- 37:12Speaker 4: out anymore. We need full sized candy bars or the
- 37:14Speaker 4: lights have to be out bucked.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we got something else worked in a
- 37:19Speaker 3: little munch, says Tom of Night, Exactly.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I think there are other factors in play when trigger
- 37:26Speaker 1: treaters are going past the deadline, and I think the
- 37:29Speaker 1: deadline is.
- 37:30Speaker 2: I mean, you guys, tell me.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm not a suburbia guy, but probably what eight nine o'clock,
- 37:37Speaker 1: I got.
- 37:38Speaker 3: A question for you. I'll give me one unsund hero
- 37:40Speaker 3: to more somebody that steps out and it's a Game
- 37:42Speaker 3: seven hero that just blindsides you. Who's your plate?
- 37:46Speaker 1: That depends who you think is gonna win, right, because
- 37:48Speaker 1: that's the unsung hero is not going to be the
- 37:50Speaker 1: guy on the losing team.
- 37:52Speaker 3: That's true. That's true.
- 37:53Speaker 2: So maybe with that, but then you need to have
- 37:55Speaker 2: an answer. SI you can swing it around or okay.
- 38:00Speaker 4: And I'll give you and I'll give you my one
- 38:02Speaker 4: from each.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Team, Okay, Matthew first, Oh me first?
- 38:08Speaker 4: Yeah, Miguel Rojas, they've already set, They've already set, They've
- 38:14Speaker 4: already set the stage for me. The Dodgers have a
- 38:16Speaker 4: guy in there, who can bunt, who can stay inside
- 38:20Speaker 4: one hundred mile an hour fastball from Louis Varland and
- 38:24Speaker 4: move the runner. He's not gonna win MVP. He's not like,
- 38:28Speaker 4: it's not gonna happen to me. The guy that could
- 38:30Speaker 4: win an MVP Alejandro Kirk. And I'm not saying he's
- 38:34Speaker 4: coming out nowhere, but if you look at what he's
- 38:36Speaker 4: done recently, he is. He is. He looks a little
- 38:40Speaker 4: bit tired here at the end of this series, and
- 38:42Speaker 4: he hasn't gotten the big hits. To me, if the
- 38:44Speaker 4: Blue Jays win, Kirk puts the ball out of the ballpark.
- 38:50Speaker 3: So you got my guy with Rojas. You can bunt
- 38:52Speaker 3: with him, you can squeeze with him, you can hit
- 38:54Speaker 3: and run. He's gonna play stellar defense. Uh So I'm
- 38:57Speaker 3: going along with you with Rojas. But Toronto is a
- 39:00Speaker 3: tough call, you know. I just uh, I'm anxious to
- 39:06Speaker 3: see how Kirk's wrist is after the hit by pitch.
- 39:11Speaker 4: Nothing nothing hurts Buck, not even that.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Nothing hurt it's broken. If it's broken is But he
- 39:20Speaker 3: I love Kirk. I just love watching him play. I
- 39:22Speaker 3: talked to the guy that signed him. They had gone
- 39:24Speaker 3: in there to look at somebody else, and they kept
- 39:27Speaker 3: seeing this guy and his back to ball skills and everything.
- 39:31Speaker 3: And you know that when I first saw the guy,
- 39:33Speaker 3: the big lingus, I remember talking in advanced meeting. I said, guys,
- 39:37Speaker 3: I don't know about him catching whatever, but I guarantee
- 39:40Speaker 3: you this guy can hit. I guarantee you anybody that
- 39:43Speaker 3: looks like he looks can hit. And he could. You know,
- 39:48Speaker 3: it's just when you see him. I love watching him play,
- 39:50Speaker 3: and he can, he can throw, and the pitchers believe
- 39:53Speaker 3: in him. But you took my two, guys, so we're
- 39:56Speaker 3: in agreement.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Okay, I'll give you two on the way out. I mean,
- 40:01Speaker 1: Clement has been a pleasure to watch. I know he
- 40:04Speaker 1: didn't get it done. Was he was part of the
- 40:06Speaker 1: PopOut right, We had one of the popouts there at
- 40:08Speaker 1: the end. But come on, I mean, the dude's hitting
- 40:10Speaker 1: four hundred plus in the postseason. He's been incredible. This
- 40:13Speaker 1: has been a coming out party for him. He's been good.
- 40:16Speaker 1: He hasn't been talked about a lot the last couple
- 40:18Speaker 1: of years, and he has taken his game to another level.
- 40:21Speaker 1: He's one of those guys where you're looking towards the
- 40:23Speaker 1: bottom of the line of I mean, fuck, you look
- 40:25Speaker 1: at that at the eight hole and you're like, damn,
- 40:28Speaker 1: this makes sense. While we're playing this team right now,
- 40:30Speaker 1: this makes sense. This guy is a pest. This guy
- 40:33Speaker 1: hits towards the top of most lineups, and we're playing
- 40:35Speaker 1: the Blue Jays and we have to game plan against
- 40:37Speaker 1: Clement and what he's done to me that stands out,
- 40:41Speaker 1: And that's a guy that just consistently has been a pest.
- 40:44Speaker 1: On the other side, I'll give you you here, I'll
- 40:46Speaker 1: get you a comment in there, and then I'll give
- 40:48Speaker 1: you a guy on the.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Other side that's a good call, yeah, okay.
- 40:52Speaker 1: And then on the other side, I'll take one who's
- 40:54Speaker 1: either going to go like, oh for four or two
- 40:56Speaker 1: for four with a huge stinger. Keik Hernandez. He's just
- 40:59Speaker 1: been there and he's a different player in the playoffs
- 41:00Speaker 1: for years. So if the Dodgers end up winning three
- 41:04Speaker 1: to two and there was a two run homer, I
- 41:06Speaker 1: would not be surprised if it was Key k a Hernandez.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I would say Max Munsey in that kind of case too,
- 41:12Speaker 1: but Max is a little bit more, you know, of
- 41:14Speaker 1: a bigger name regular season Why Key Hernandez is the
- 41:17Speaker 1: definition of postseason performer.
- 41:19Speaker 2: He's the guy who gets up in those big moments.
- 41:22Speaker 1: It's just a different, different game for him when you
- 41:24Speaker 1: get to October, and he's got so much experience at
- 41:27Speaker 1: those times.
- 41:28Speaker 2: So I'll say those two stand out.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Do you remember you remember the play where Monthly lost
- 41:33Speaker 3: the ball on the lights tonight the bouncer supposedly, you know,
- 41:37Speaker 3: that's another thing official scores for years, always scored that
- 41:41Speaker 3: in era. At least they know now. But there's another thing.
- 41:44Speaker 3: We talk about fences and openings at the bottom, and
- 41:47Speaker 3: there's some way we could figure out a way where
- 41:49Speaker 3: balls don't go in the lights, somehow figure out a
- 41:52Speaker 3: way that it doesn't play into the game. Okay, I'm done.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I kind of like it. I mean from a fan perspective,
- 41:59Speaker 2: like you got to the light we have.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I can get the sun, the sun at it's always
- 42:04Speaker 3: gonna be there. But the lights, that's something we can
- 42:07Speaker 3: control where the ball doesn't get in the lights. I
- 42:09Speaker 3: used to think that we should always Okay, I'm gonna
- 42:12Speaker 3: give one up on myself. I was thinking in the
- 42:13Speaker 3: playoffs one year, if we had gave out shirts to
- 42:16Speaker 3: everybody behind home plate and the UH and they had
- 42:20Speaker 3: the they turned them over to black shirts when we
- 42:22Speaker 3: were in the field, and they turn them over to
- 42:24Speaker 3: white shirts when they were in the field. You think
- 42:26Speaker 3: that would be legal?
- 42:28Speaker 4: I think I think Majingue Baseball would not do anything
- 42:31Speaker 4: about it because they used to give out Bob They
- 42:33Speaker 4: used to give out white towels. People would come in
- 42:36Speaker 4: there and they'd be, you know, they they'd be waving
- 42:39Speaker 4: the white towels, and the hitters are like, I mean,
- 42:41Speaker 4: the feelers are like, I remember Shane Victorino, He's.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Like, oh my god, I can't see.
- 42:46Speaker 4: He's like what He's like, put all of them down.
- 42:48Speaker 4: He's like, every two strikes, he's like, you have to
- 42:50Speaker 4: strike him out because I'm seeing like one thousand, fifteen
- 42:54Speaker 4: thousand white things behind home plate. Now they now they
- 42:58Speaker 4: made the rule in the last CBA. They made it
- 43:00Speaker 4: sure it had to be your team colors. It couldn't
- 43:03Speaker 4: be white or any light colors.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Hey, there's a reason why they quit giving bats away,
- 43:10Speaker 3: you know, because I'm going to get killed up there.
- 43:12Speaker 3: You remember they used to have bat Day. Finally they
- 43:15Speaker 3: figured out, you know, this, this ain't a real smart idea.
- 43:18Speaker 2: No, it's not a good idea.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Hey, wait till you see the renderings for the new
- 43:22Speaker 1: Vegas ballpark where it's full of white. That's going to
- 43:24Speaker 1: be fun. When someone calls them and says, hey, that's
- 43:26Speaker 1: that's not going to work. We'll save it for another day.
- 43:28Speaker 1: We'll save it for another day.
- 43:30Speaker 3: It's like the silver seats in the stands. Who makes
- 43:33Speaker 3: these decisions to have this these silver seats in spring
- 43:36Speaker 3: training where nobody can see. We would there are places
- 43:39Speaker 3: where we wouldn't take guys to the ballpark, to visiting
- 43:42Speaker 3: ballparks because we knew somebody get killed. What's this mean?
- 43:46Speaker 4: Challenge?
- 43:47Speaker 1: We just we just have to challenge it. Challenge is
- 43:51Speaker 1: not watching enough baseball. Hey, how about how good are they?
- 43:54Speaker 1: How good are the home plate on parts? But how
- 43:56Speaker 1: many pitches tonight? Would you have asked them, uh Scott
- 44:01Speaker 1: to check tonight?
- 44:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say probably about five.
- 44:05Speaker 1: What Kratz said that there were a few pitches down
- 44:08Speaker 1: that I felt were down, and then there were a
- 44:10Speaker 1: few pitches that were not down that so I think
- 44:12Speaker 1: the bottom part portion of the zone had a little
- 44:14Speaker 1: bit of a rollercoaster ride to it. But most of
- 44:18Speaker 1: the time it's playing both ways, and I'm the biggest
- 44:21Speaker 1: proponent of the ABS challenge system. I cannot wait. One
- 44:23Speaker 1: quick note too, just so people don't think we got
- 44:25Speaker 1: it wrong on that month's he play. Initially it was
- 44:29Speaker 1: called a knock and then they switched it.
- 44:32Speaker 3: They switched it to an error.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Really, yeah, they switched it.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Official score should go up to him and say, okay,
- 44:40Speaker 3: tell me yes or no? Is it in the lights
- 44:42Speaker 3: or did you just miss it? That's what I would do.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Because what do you think I was going to say, Buck?
- 44:46Speaker 1: These are gamers. What do you think Max is going
- 44:48Speaker 1: to say?
- 44:49Speaker 3: Max is going to tell you the truth? He will?
- 44:52Speaker 3: He will because it doesn't really.
- 44:53Speaker 1: It will, but many won't, I guess, but but I'm
- 44:56Speaker 1: with you. It's fun. Hey, this was great. Thank you
- 44:59Speaker 1: for joining us. Hope you enjoyed it. That was a
