  [SPEAKER_00]: end of year press conference and the vibe in the media room was very much like last day of school.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So they'll be done for a little while in terms of meeting with the media and having any sort of interaction like that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But in my opinion, it was less about closing the book and more about looking ahead in that regard.

  [SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone and Liam Cohen are kind of at a point in understandably so where

  [SPEAKER_00]: Plans are not necessarily fully put together yet.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're putting everything together in terms of the communication between the front office, the coaching staff, the plans moving forward.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Browns had coaching job, so the Jack Wars they're gonna have to be prepared for a lot of different potential things here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: We haven't gotten a lot of opportunities to talk a lot about Travis Hunter since his injury.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It felt like at that moment when he got injured, it was like, oh gosh, here we go.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It was in the rammed game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You were coming off of two straight, pretty bad losses overall, even if the Seahawk's game was fairly close in the end, it was like doom and gloom around these parts.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The team picked themselves up off the mat and they played really good football down the stretch 113 games, but Travis Hunter was not a part of that unfortunately, but he will be a part of the plans moving forward in a very big part of the plan.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So his rehab to start that, it's going very well, according to James Ladsdon, according to James Ladsdon, he will continue to play both sides of the football, which was my expectation.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't expect them to just give up on that this quickly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: With that said, James Gladstone did offer up, probably more of an emphasis at quarterback, based on roster construction, based on impending free agents, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: You have Buster Brown and Greg News, some both of whom are set to be free agents, that was your two starting outside corners this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: All right, you still have Jordan Lewis and Jarring Jones, who are both guys you love.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jarring can play outside.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jordan can play a little bit outside if you need him too, but both of those guys really thrive in the nickel role, thrive inside a little bit more.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I appreciate a James Lathdon putting that out there, even though he wasn't necessarily asked which side of the ball he would play more, I don't believe, hearing corner,

  [SPEAKER_00]: is not surprising based on the roster construction because again you look at receiver you have a number of guys you feel good about and uh... obviously jacobie parker briontom is junior britain strange as a tight end receiving tight end so there's a lot you can look at for sure but he'll continue to play both sides and

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that kind of, because I feel like there was less of an emphasis on corner as the season went on this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I really loved what he did at corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was fantastic for the Jaguars at corner back.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was certainly better at corner back this year than he was at receiver, just in terms of feel and knowing where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there, there was some, I think, route timing issues at wide receiver a little bit just operationally.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see him on both sides of the ball, but if he can be a spot receiver, a situational receiver and closer to a full-time corner, I think that could be a very, very good deal for the Jaguar as in 2026 and beyond, because I quite frankly think he's just a superstar corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And if you can have that, that's a big deal, especially with, you know, just how good this defense was down the stretch and then you add a potential elite corner, to me, recognize some probably going.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And this is just my personal opinion.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you have Buster Brown and Travis Hunter,

  [SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter playing more of the Greg Newsom role with Buster Brown sticking in the same role.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that could be really good for the Jacksonville Jaguar's defense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of the Jaguar's defense, was asked about Devin Lloyd James Gladstone was also Travis, Travis ET in on the offensive side.

  [SPEAKER_00]: how cool those stories were to watch this year, how cool it was to watch those players operate and grow and become really top to your versions of themselves.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But he did not really have a comment either way as to whether or not they would be a part of the Jaguar's future.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars are up against it with the salary cap there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They are not flush with a lot of salary cap space.

  [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, right now, according to over the cap there in the red, I think that that will change a little bit as you get the official numbers on how much the salary cap will grow.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And some different roster mechanisms with the Jaguars,

  [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't seem to commit a lie there way on both of those guys.

  [SPEAKER_00]: My takeaway on that is less about, so Ryan O'Hallerin, who does a great job covering the Jaguars, he wrote a story about it this morning in the Times Union.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He basically thinks that E.T.

  [SPEAKER_00]: and in Devin Lloyd are gone.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That was his takeaway.

  [SPEAKER_00]: My takeaway is that I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are gone.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, Devin Lloyd coming back and Travis E.T.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But James Gladstone playing it very close to the vest in my opinion.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he wants to give away a strategic advantage when it comes to negotiations, anything like that with those two because they are going to be really big pieces to the Jack Wars offseason, whether they stay or go, they're huge, huge pieces to the Jack

  [SPEAKER_00]: um... did get asked about contracts for tray of um... walker parker washington britain strange will start with the latter to pin state alums or i don't know if they've graduated but to pin state uh... you know classmates teammates uh... at pin state that got drafted in the same class with the jackwars and

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're both to be up for contract extensions this year if you want to like you have them under contract through the 2026 season after the 2026 season is when they would become free agents, but was asked about those contracts and for one Those two guys you have to wait till the start of the league year, which will be in March.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But they cannot negotiate technically, or be signed until the newly year for the NFL, which is going to be, let's see.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So there's a couple of months until those guys can officially be signed anyways, but he did say both of them fit the DNA, fit the culture, fit exactly the type of players you want to align with, players and people that you want to align with moving forward.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I would think that they're both in the Jaguar's long term plans.

  [SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone was so complimentary of both of them, and I think he's so proud of both of them and the opportunities that the Jaguars gave them, this year and the way they took advantage of those.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So really cool story between two Nittany lions drafted by the same team, the same year, coming in and having breakout seasons together in 2025 as for Trayvon Walker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's heading into what will be his fifth year option season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of misconceptions about the way contracts work, and I'm by no means like a straight-up contract expert.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do know some things about contracts though in the NFL.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So, Tray Balm Walker, he's heading into his fifth-year option, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: And his cap hit right now for 2026 is scheduled to be 15.2 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Ish, just a shade under 15.2 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If the Jack Wars get a deal done with Tray Balm Walker,

  [SPEAKER_00]: A, I mean, who knows how much that's going to cost?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it will be more expensive than Josh Allen's deal.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's going to be in the stratosphere of like Miles Garrett or anything like that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Micah Parsons, but I do think it will be more expensive than Josh Allen's deal just by virtue of the cap going up.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You're like, oh, the Jaguars are up against it with the cap.

  [SPEAKER_00]: How are they going to sign and trade about Walker?

  [SPEAKER_00]: The extension would be after 2026, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: We saw this when Trevor Lawrence signed his extension.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguars, let's say they're gonna deal with Trablem Walker this often, which is another,

  [SPEAKER_00]: James Latson didn't really comment either way on it, but he did say he's the type of player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: His love for his team and his teammates and for football, like oozes out of his soul.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's the type of player again that you want to align yourself with very complimentary of Trayvon Walker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: if their plan is to sign drive on walker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it, you could just say ballpark 30 million, something like that, 30 million per year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The extension, that new money would not come until after the 2026 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But because you are signing this extension and because you have a owner who is so generous with his checkbook and you can write big signing bonuses, you can effectively reduce

  [SPEAKER_00]: and half if you want to, really, you can do whatever you want in that regard, to give yourself some more room to bring back a Devon Lloyd or do whatever else you need to do, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I think signing Trayvon Walker this year would probably be...

  [SPEAKER_00]: probably be advantageous for the jaguars, for a few reasons, one of which is you can actually create more cap space for yourself in 2025, or excuse me, 2026, if you get that deal done this off season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you get it done before for agency starts, you can give yourself some room to work with, right there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then you also have the fact that,

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he had a really impactful year when he was healthy, like actually healthy.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but I think he played really well when he was feeling good.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he was so impactful against the run and just making splash plays.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And so to me, I think he played well, but it's very possible that if he is in a contract

  [SPEAKER_00]: He plays on a whole other level than we have ever seen from him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that is well within the range of possibilities for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that could be a good thing for the 2020-2016.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It could be a bad thing for the Seller who can't move him forward because you're like, how the heck are we going to sign this guy?

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I really, I mean, you could see like a all world performance from Trayvon Walker on a contract year in 2026.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But you would also like to lock him in early.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If I'm Trayvon Walker, depending on how like where the contract negotiations are this off season,

  [SPEAKER_00]: Between him and the Jack Wars, if I'm getting offered 30 million, and I'm like, if I go out there and do what I can do next year, I could be like in the stratosphere of the guys we were talking about before.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Micah Parsons got 46 and a half million per year, eight and a hundred and then got 45.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Josh Hines Allen's at 28.25.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, I think that Trevon will be higher than that just based on again, the time period in which the deal's being done, but,

  [SPEAKER_00]: If he has a breakout breakout year, which, let's be fair, he has had double digit sacks multiple times already in his career, he is in a lead run defender and a lead athlete crazy player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He can still develop his past rush consistency in my opinion, I think he is, but

  [SPEAKER_00]: If he has the best season he can, he could be a $40 plus million player, maybe, I mean, maybe $45 million plus after the 2026 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I might say we're going to go play crazy, hair on fire, and get this bread.

  [SPEAKER_00]: over what, you know, a four year deal, and 30 million per year, over a four year deal is substantial.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So that's going to be a fascinating one to follow.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen and company, we talked about it a little bit with Campany Lane and

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be huge for this team to just be able to have some continuity.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do believe one thing that's interesting, based on James Gladstone's comments is that based on

  [SPEAKER_00]: If those guys are both retained, more so, Campanilae because the offense is going to be the offense with Liam Cohen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that that's going to change anything because he's the headhunter on offense and the play collar.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I believe Anthony Campanilae, if he leaves and I don't think they're just going to try to find somebody who is exactly liking Anthony Campanilae just to force it or somebody who runs at Anthony Campanilae, the exact defense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think if somebody brings in a little bit of a different philosophy schematically than Anthony Campanila, I think Anthony Campanila gets a had coaching job.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I believe that could impact the way they attack returning free agents, outside free agents, the draft, all that stuff.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Devon Lloyd was perfect for Anthony Campanila's defense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you lose camp and you bring in somebody with a little bit of a different philosophy,

  [SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot of reason for optimism as he showed in my opinion.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter was playing damn good football and I think that he's gonna continue to do that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So no worries there in my opinion.

  [SPEAKER_00]: uh... ran saw down for the year nothing you can do about that i really like the trajectory he was on before he got injured uh... why at my limit had a injury early on but when he got on the field he played well yet he absolutely did so i think you feel good about why i'm moving forward um... you look at your your fourth round picks jack kaiser he got caught up on to the field a little bit a few times and he did okay uh... basaltut and you feel great about moving forward

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jayla McLeod basically lost for the year as well, but Rayon Lane with a huge impact.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Special teams, Angin, on the field of the safety.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jona Monheim, great impact when he got out there at center.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Liquid Allen, unbelievable glue player for your special teams and your offense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Danny Strickau has an undrafted free agent, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: BJ Green has an undrafted free.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I, yeah, I think they should be very, very excited about their rookie class.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Talked about with the Colvin Land Insigning, the entire offensive line is returning, and he talked about that group, that position, more than any other group in football.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's the one you need continuity.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he talked about, you know, he was asked if McCary's injury would, uh, what was, you know, concerning long term, the back injury, and they don't believe so based on their, uh, medical staff's examination and evaluation of that, they're not worried about the long term of McCary.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So they're bringing their offensive line back, and that doesn't mean that they can't upgrade.

  [SPEAKER_00]: that they can't work to get better on the offensive line, but they're very happy that they can bring that continuity into the 2026 campaign on the offensive line.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Did love to hear him talk about pressures over sacs when it comes to evaluating past rush.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I agree completely.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Pressures, burst pipes, pressures force turnovers, sacs are great as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you want more sacs in the Jaguars had this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not trying to say that at all.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I think that their password was underrated.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I also think that their defense allows quarterbacks to get the ball out quickly in certain moments when they're playing off coverage.

  [SPEAKER_00]: don't get sacks when the quarterbacks get in the ball out in two seconds or under you just don't so it was interesting to hear him talk about pressures over sacks.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Both Liam Cohen and James Gladstone seemed very confident in that role that Brian Thomas Jr. kind of established for himself as a perimeter vertical role and that he's going to be a part of this team's future.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's probably smart.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of go back and forth like

  [SPEAKER_00]: because they traded a lot of folks out there think they could trade him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But with the way they talked about him today, I think that at this moment, he is absolutely in their plans for 2026 and beyond.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I like the idea of him really focusing on that role that he kind of grew into again, outside the numbers perimeter vertical role.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I really like focusing on that role for him long term and one thing I just want to say this is not a group that's going to stamp that they set as much.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that James Gladstone is going to continue to be aggressive to be bold where he can be to try to improve this football team and they talk about they'll talk the talk they'll tell you but they have to walk the walk.
