- 1:25Speaker 3: There, and today we are thrilled to be joined by
- 1:30Speaker 3: co hosts Eric from the Hallmark Mysteries and More podcast.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us, Eric, glad to be here. Oh,
- 1:37Speaker 3: tell us a little bit about how you became a
- 1:40Speaker 3: Hallmark movie watcher.
- 1:42Speaker 5: How I became a Hallmark movie So the story all
- 1:45Speaker 5: goes back to way back when in my young childhood,
- 1:49Speaker 5: but back in I don't know. I'd late to around
- 1:53Speaker 5: twenty eighteen or something like that. About five years ago now,
- 1:57Speaker 5: I was just cruising the channels and stumbled upon Somervilla
- 2:03Speaker 5: And if anyone seen Somervilla, they know why. Instantly became hooked.
- 2:08Speaker 5: To this day, I think it is the best Hallmark movie.
- 2:11Speaker 5: But so I'm always been a round com fan, So
- 2:14Speaker 5: I started watching it. I didn't even a Hallmark really
- 2:16Speaker 5: channel existed, and I assumed if it did, it was
- 2:19Speaker 5: for like Grandmas and everything like that. I guess maybe
- 2:22Speaker 5: I associate more as a grammar or something. I don't know,
- 2:25Speaker 5: But so I watched Somervilla, really got into it, and
- 2:29Speaker 5: then I slowly found myself on weekends just start watching
- 2:34Speaker 5: more and more of them and just enjoy it. It's
- 2:38Speaker 5: the fun escapism. I think I do okay, knowing like
- 2:42Speaker 5: I don't take them too serious. And you guys have
- 2:45Speaker 5: your podcast, I'm sure you get the dms where people
- 2:47Speaker 5: will hit you up with like all these like minutia
- 2:51Speaker 5: things that that couldn't happen in the real world, and
- 2:54Speaker 5: I just happily go off to Hallmark Universe.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Wendy has often said that she Hallmark Movies and Mysteries
- 3:01Speaker 3: puts out better movies than the Hallmark Channel.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Agree or disagree, Well, they're just it depends on what
- 3:09Speaker 5: you mean by better. They have more depth. I think
- 3:13Speaker 5: like the mysteries. One of the things that's different about
- 3:15Speaker 5: the mystery is it usually has multiple episodes, so you
- 3:18Speaker 5: can develop characters and you don't have to resolve everything
- 3:22Speaker 5: in one hundred and twenty three minutes, whereas and then
- 3:27Speaker 5: the dramas also just tend to be a little more
- 3:30Speaker 5: like I say, movies with more depth. They don't have
- 3:32Speaker 5: to end with a conflict slash romance thirty seconds later.
- 3:37Speaker 5: But like, I don't know, I like Hallmark movies. I
- 3:41Speaker 5: like the romance, I like the cheese. I like all
- 3:43Speaker 5: of that stuff too, So it's just a little different better,
- 3:46Speaker 5: can't say worse.
- 3:48Speaker 6: So countdown to Christmas is coming.
- 3:50Speaker 3: If you had to pick one movie that you're super
- 3:52Speaker 3: excited about, so.
- 3:53Speaker 5: You're gonna make me like pie, I don't know it's well,
- 3:59Speaker 5: I will say it's the one with Catherine Bell and
- 4:03Speaker 5: James Denton, just because I'm excited for the good Witch reunion.
- 4:08Speaker 5: I love them together. Yes, but I'll say just overall,
- 4:12Speaker 5: there's only two that I have issue with talent, And
- 4:15Speaker 5: I know you guys have like there's something that you
- 4:19Speaker 5: said you want to see, some you don't want to see.
- 4:22Speaker 5: There's none that I looked at and just said, oh,
- 4:24Speaker 5: I don't want to see you. But I just really
- 4:29Speaker 5: like so many fresh faces. And I don't know if
- 4:31Speaker 5: it has to do with the strike and all these
- 4:34Speaker 5: like young Canadians are happening or whatever, but I.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Feel like they might also be acquisitions too, like movies
- 4:41Speaker 3: at Hallmark picked up just in case they needed to
- 4:43Speaker 3: round out their slate, so they weren't necessarily produced with
- 4:48Speaker 3: Hallmark in mind.
- 4:50Speaker 5: We'll see by the quality because the acquisitions we can
- 4:53Speaker 5: talk about. That other one we don't talk about, and
- 4:56Speaker 5: their acquisitions are terrible.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So yes, I agree, Well I did for that Catherine Bell,
- 5:01Speaker 3: Jean Stanton movie as well. That's a great cast all
- 5:03Speaker 3: the way around. In terms of countdown to Christmas. What
- 5:06Speaker 3: can people expect from the Homewark mysteries and more podcasts?
- 5:10Speaker 6: What are you guys planning to do?
- 5:11Speaker 5: We just dropped our preview because for us, Christmas starts today,
- 5:15Speaker 5: because there's four weeks in a row of mysteries. So
- 5:20Speaker 5: for us, this is the big highlight and then it
- 5:22Speaker 5: kind of goes off and we're in romcom world. But
- 5:25Speaker 5: there is Victor Webster who a very big fan of
- 5:29Speaker 5: Victor Webster too, and he's in the Mystery of Mistletoe Lane,
- 5:36Speaker 5: so we do. I'm curious if it's an actual mystery
- 5:39Speaker 5: or if it's like Santa's Steakout.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah. I like sa Mistakout.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I know you did.
- 5:44Speaker 6: And Paul Campbell can do no wrong. What we say.
- 5:49Speaker 6: It was good, but it wasn't a mystery.
- 5:51Speaker 3: It wasn't a mystery.
- 5:52Speaker 5: I agree, yeah, And I just never thought they had
- 5:55Speaker 5: romantic chemistry. I thought it was a fun movie.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I just never Yeah. I don't disagree with that.
- 6:01Speaker 4: I don't disagree with that either. I just thought it
- 6:03Speaker 4: was fun. Yeah, it's fun.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I'll give you I'll get that are you ready to
- 6:07Speaker 3: hear a synopsis of love?
- 6:09Speaker 6: Of course?
- 6:10Speaker 3: Who were doing our discussion?
- 6:12Speaker 4: Yeah? You want me to go right too. Amy is
- 6:14Speaker 4: helping her daughter sell into college and lands a job
- 6:17Speaker 4: to help with the annual Fall Harvest Festival. When Amy
- 6:21Speaker 4: meets Noah, a charismatic, well traveled professor, she learns more
- 6:26Speaker 4: about herself and discovers a new life of her own.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Let's hear first impressions, and we're gonna go ahead and
- 6:33Speaker 3: start with.
- 6:34Speaker 4: You, Eric.
- 6:35Speaker 5: My first impression is my wife works for hire ed,
- 6:38Speaker 5: and there's no way somebody could get hired within like
- 6:41Speaker 5: one conversation. To hire someone takes about seven and a
- 6:45Speaker 5: half years, and in talking to you, like seventeen layers
- 6:49Speaker 5: of people.
- 6:49Speaker 3: No.
- 6:51Speaker 5: The reality of it, though, is this movie is absolutely adorable.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I loved it when it first happened, and I was
- 7:00Speaker 5: when I saw your list. I wanted to do Pumpkin
- 7:04Speaker 5: Pie Wars because I like that one, and I should
- 7:06Speaker 5: have been on there so I could have fought with you.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Because it is good.
- 7:09Speaker 5: It's Team Windy, yes, and but this movie is just adorable,
- 7:15Speaker 5: and I'm so glad that I watched it again because
- 7:17Speaker 5: it just reminded me that it's really, really cute. And
- 7:21Speaker 5: one of the biggest crimes out there is that Kelly
- 7:23Speaker 5: Rutherford is only in one Hallmark movie because she killed
- 7:29Speaker 5: it killed it.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Well, that's my first impression. If I may go ahead,
- 7:33Speaker 3: bring Kelly Rutherford back to Hallmark because I was shocked
- 7:37Speaker 3: in scrolling her IMDb. She's perfect in this role on
- 7:42Speaker 3: this channel.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Why only one movie?
- 7:45Speaker 3: Why?
- 7:46Speaker 5: I don't know, Let's.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Start a campaign. Yeah, justice for Kelly. Yeah, Hey, what's
- 7:52Speaker 4: your first impression? My first impression is you had me
- 7:54Speaker 4: at Marco? Oh? How cute? Was a Marco polo scene
- 7:58Speaker 4: in both that was?
- 8:00Speaker 6: That was pretty cute.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I at the end when she's looking for him Marco Marco,
- 8:05Speaker 4: Oh my god, I loved it.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Wait, you don't do that with your husband ever, when
- 8:10Speaker 5: you're like out at the valet.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Oh my god, how he would be so embarrassed. Could
- 8:15Speaker 4: you imagine? Could you imagine my husband?
- 8:17Speaker 3: The hell? My husband thinks it's hilarious to just like
- 8:20Speaker 3: wander off, Like We'll be out someplace and he just
- 8:22Speaker 3: like wanders and I'll realize that his phone's in my purse.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I'll go to Colin and that's like classic. My husband anyway,
- 8:32Speaker 3: So yeah, he would not play Marco Polo with me
- 8:36Speaker 3: in a home depot. All right, well, let's talk what
- 8:40Speaker 3: we liked about this movie. Eric, We're gonna give you
- 8:42Speaker 3: the floor to begin.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Okay, So, as I said Kelly Rutherford, she well, first
- 8:49Speaker 5: of all, the writing and the directing, we're just fantastic.
- 8:53Speaker 5: And to get ready for this, I talked to both
- 8:56Speaker 5: Lee Friedlander, the director, and Tracy Andreene to get a
- 9:00Speaker 5: little bit of their thoughts.
- 9:02Speaker 4: And wait, casually drop right there?
- 9:07Speaker 3: Are you like dropping into their dms?
- 9:09Speaker 4: You contacted them?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah? Chat with you? Don't chat with people? Well, you
- 9:13Speaker 5: guys are snarkier than I am. I'm nice.
- 9:16Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, people like us.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Let's be cool other than other than Candice cam remember
- 9:20Speaker 5: people people like us. I'm nice to everybody.
- 9:22Speaker 3: People dropping dms. But I don't think we've ever just
- 9:26Speaker 3: like directly reached out.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Do you reach out like via DM? Are you emailing them?
- 9:31Speaker 4: Is this a phone call? Explain the process to me.
- 9:34Speaker 5: No, it's it's mostly like dms, but it should chat
- 9:38Speaker 5: and sort of. And then when the movie was coming up,
- 9:41Speaker 5: I'm like, Hey, I'm reviewing your movie. What do you
- 9:43Speaker 5: got from like Tracy, because I interviewed Tracy way back
- 9:46Speaker 5: when she's awesome, and then when I was talking to her,
- 9:50Speaker 5: she's like, Hey, talk to Lee, and so I talked
- 9:53Speaker 5: to Lee.
- 9:54Speaker 4: You're so well connected, Eric.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Well, that's one of the other great things about Homemark
- 9:59Speaker 5: is the people associated with Hallmark are so willing to
- 10:05Speaker 5: engage with fans, Whereas, like I think if I were to,
- 10:08Speaker 5: you know, say hey, Tom Cruise, you know, tell me
- 10:11Speaker 5: about Mission Impossible, and like you're like hanging there, I
- 10:14Speaker 5: have a feeling he wouldn't be like getting.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Back or he's going to leave you on Red probably.
- 10:20Speaker 5: In Ruining X. They're going to get blown up by
- 10:21Speaker 5: everyone listening to your podcasts starting trying to chat.
- 10:24Speaker 4: They're going to get blown up by us. What are
- 10:26Speaker 4: you talking about?
- 10:26Speaker 5: So one of the things that Tracy said too that
- 10:29Speaker 5: was really interesting was this was her only movie that
- 10:32Speaker 5: Hallmark didn't touch. They what they wrote and what Lee
- 10:38Speaker 5: produced just went boom. They didn't have to because the
- 10:42Speaker 5: other person, who we don't like to talk about the
- 10:43Speaker 5: previous regime had was of control freak and would do
- 10:49Speaker 5: a lot of things. But yeah, the movie was just
- 10:51Speaker 5: great and I have to agree, and I think, Kelly,
- 10:54Speaker 5: I'm not the hugest Cameron Mathison fan always, but this
- 10:58Speaker 5: favorite role of his, I thought the chemistry between the
- 11:01Speaker 5: two of them was just off the charts. I also,
- 11:07Speaker 5: for me personally, I realized watching this couldn't have been
- 11:10Speaker 5: better timing. So I'm a little bit older than you,
- 11:12Speaker 5: with my kids a little bit older than you. I've
- 11:14Speaker 5: went through both of them going off to school and
- 11:16Speaker 5: all of that. But what just happened. I just over
- 11:21Speaker 5: Labor Day, my daughter moved to Boston to go start
- 11:26Speaker 5: her career over there, and so I had to you know,
- 11:30Speaker 5: move her. Well I didn't. She drove across country and
- 11:33Speaker 5: then my wife and I flew out and met her
- 11:35Speaker 5: there because we're too old to be driving across the
- 11:38Speaker 5: country for things like that. But then we got there
- 11:41Speaker 5: and you know, took them to Akia and all the
- 11:44Speaker 5: places to buy all their furniture and everything. But I
- 11:47Speaker 5: totally was relating to Kelly because my wife was just
- 11:50Speaker 5: dying wanting to get her apartment all set up, and
- 11:56Speaker 5: my daughter's pace was a little bit different. She'd like
- 12:00Speaker 5: build one thing, like Okay, I need to take a break,
- 12:03Speaker 5: and so we left and things were still unpacked, but
- 12:07Speaker 5: I really like, I say, watching this again, I just
- 12:09Speaker 5: connected to it personally and emotionally, so that was awesome.
- 12:15Speaker 5: The other thing I really liked, and I'll go back
- 12:17Speaker 5: to Kelly, was she had a character that could so
- 12:20Speaker 5: quickly and easily be unlikable, but she would always like
- 12:25Speaker 5: take it right to that line and stopped, and she
- 12:30Speaker 5: gave like the best looks that just sort of be
- 12:36Speaker 5: like over to Cameron. When she would say something, it
- 12:38Speaker 5: would just be that like Okay, I'm kind of digging you,
- 12:41Speaker 5: or Okay, you're wrong and you really need to do this,
- 12:45Speaker 5: you know corn maize and thing. But just like she
- 12:48Speaker 5: was able to just do that non verbal acting. I
- 12:51Speaker 5: thought that was just fantastic in this movie.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I always love a second chance romance story, and I
- 12:58Speaker 3: loved that Kelly Cameron pairing was amazing. I agree Cameron
- 13:04Speaker 3: Mathieson isn't like my number one always, but I think
- 13:07Speaker 3: he was fantastic in this role. It kind of sometimes
- 13:11Speaker 3: gets relegated to like the dad roles as supposed to like.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Leading man role.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I loved when Kelly said, why would an agriculture professor
- 13:20Speaker 3: refuse to put roots down? I just loved that writing
- 13:24Speaker 3: moment and I love a fall movie that feels like fall,
- 13:27Speaker 3: like a fall festival with a corn maze. Yes, please
- 13:31Speaker 3: all of it. It was such a joyful experience to
- 13:36Speaker 3: watch it.
- 13:37Speaker 4: I agree with you. I thought this was such a
- 13:40Speaker 4: nice Fall movie. It was esthetically pleasing to look at.
- 13:43Speaker 4: And we had a little bit of like fall weather
- 13:47Speaker 4: here yesterday, so like like.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Seven Mile to Southern California fall Weather.
- 13:53Speaker 4: I was hyped. I was like, I'm all in, I'm
- 13:55Speaker 4: decorated with make it like it's it's happening. I thought
- 14:00Speaker 4: they Cameron and Kelly had fire chemistry. And I had
- 14:05Speaker 4: read some of the IMDb reviews, which we all know
- 14:09Speaker 4: that they're always not very good, but some of the
- 14:12Speaker 4: reviews said like these two have no chemistry, and I
- 14:15Speaker 4: was like, are you kidding me? Like the dance floor scene,
- 14:20Speaker 4: first of all, a guy who gets out on the
- 14:23Speaker 4: dance floor and does does country line dancing, Like, I'm
- 14:27Speaker 4: all sold, Yeah, totally, I got a story for you
- 14:30Speaker 4: tell us.
- 14:31Speaker 5: So that's one of the things that Lee told me
- 14:33Speaker 5: that they all went and they did line dancing lessons.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Fun.
- 14:38Speaker 5: But Cameron was already like very good at it. I
- 14:42Speaker 5: believe that, So I love that scene. Because it felt
- 14:44Speaker 5: so much like a real date.
- 14:46Speaker 4: It did absolutely And then as that song ends and
- 14:49Speaker 4: the slow song starts, like there was just passion between
- 14:54Speaker 4: these two. And then not only that scene were followed
- 14:57Speaker 4: by the porch scene right after where he wants to
- 15:02Speaker 4: go in and kiss her and she's got reservations because
- 15:04Speaker 4: you know she's dealing with a lot of baggage, but like,
- 15:07Speaker 4: oh so good.
- 15:09Speaker 6: I agree.
- 15:10Speaker 4: So it's a sign. I want to talk about Cameron
- 15:14Speaker 4: Mathieson for a second.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Now.
- 15:15Speaker 4: I know you said that he's not your favorite. I
- 15:16Speaker 4: know he's not your favorite as a Hallmark newcomer like myself.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I haven't seen him in a lot of stuff. I
- 15:23Speaker 4: thought he left for the other channel. I don't really
- 15:28Speaker 4: know the backstory there are you guys familiar.
- 15:31Speaker 5: He's the only one I know of who's had a
- 15:34Speaker 5: decent presence over there, who's come back.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Who's come back? He's not doing both?
- 15:39Speaker 3: Is he do?
- 15:39Speaker 5: We know? Yeah? But I think he's only doing Is
- 15:42Speaker 5: he doing anything other than Hannah Swinson?
- 15:44Speaker 3: I don't.
- 15:45Speaker 6: I haven't seen him.
- 15:46Speaker 3: He's not in anything counted on.
- 15:47Speaker 4: A Christmas right, He's not. I don't know. I have
- 15:50Speaker 4: to put those like personal feelings aside. I think he's
- 15:52Speaker 4: a really good actor, and I think all his years
- 15:55Speaker 4: on soaps have like really enabled him him to emote
- 16:01Speaker 4: with his face, have a natural reaction to like what
- 16:05Speaker 4: his co star is saying to him. It's he's just
- 16:08Speaker 4: not reading the lines.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there's something to be said. He has
- 16:11Speaker 3: over thirteen hundred episodes of soap operas between all my
- 16:15Speaker 3: children in General Hospital, and I think there's a lot
- 16:18Speaker 3: to be said for all of the screen time that
- 16:21Speaker 3: that has given him, and all of the opportunity to
- 16:23Speaker 3: play opposite other actors.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I think he's good. I'd like to see him in
- 16:29Speaker 4: more things on our channel.
- 16:31Speaker 5: And by the way, when I say he's not my favorite,
- 16:33Speaker 5: I don't dislike him by any means. Yeah, it's sort
- 16:36Speaker 5: of one of the I wouldn't go to my way
- 16:38Speaker 5: to see him, but I don't avoid him right either.
- 16:42Speaker 6: He's great. As you know.
- 16:43Speaker 3: In the Hannah Swinston slash Murder She Baked, I.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Thought that I've only seen the most recent one. I
- 16:49Speaker 4: thought that was a good movie. Yeah, I thought that
- 16:51Speaker 4: was a good movie. Like Eric, I found Amy's storyline
- 16:55Speaker 4: super relatable. We Meg and I both have kids who
- 16:58Speaker 4: are in high school and we're coming up on that
- 17:02Speaker 4: kind of midlife like ant nest, empty nest, What am
- 17:07Speaker 4: I going to do with my life? So it's nice
- 17:09Speaker 4: to see Hollmark kind of share those narratives. If it
- 17:13Speaker 4: felt like.
- 17:13Speaker 3: It was for me, Yes, I know well that you're
- 17:17Speaker 3: comment about wanting to set up her room when her
- 17:19Speaker 3: daughter's like.
- 17:19Speaker 6: No, no, I'll do it later.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I thought, but you're not going to do it as
- 17:22Speaker 3: well as I could help you with. It's not going
- 17:25Speaker 3: to be as good as if mom helps that.
- 17:28Speaker 6: I would have had a very hard.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Time walking away in that moment. I would have been
- 17:32Speaker 3: the mom who came back and did It'd have been like,
- 17:35Speaker 3: go ahead and go I'll stay here and do everything.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Two more things. I loved how the Fall Festival was
- 17:44Speaker 4: at the end of the movie like we were looking
- 17:46Speaker 4: forward to it, and I thought they did that really well.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You know sometimes we get like a festival it's like
- 17:51Speaker 4: mid movie and then we get like miscommunications or whatever
- 17:55Speaker 4: or afterwards. I found myself like very excited to see
- 17:58Speaker 4: what this festival was was going to look like. Maybe
- 18:03Speaker 4: that's just like the PTA mom and me, Like I
- 18:06Speaker 4: just felt very connected to what Amy was doing and
- 18:11Speaker 4: what her yeah job was and finally there was great
- 18:16Speaker 4: music throughout this entire movie. Did anybody notice I didn't
- 18:19Speaker 4: clock it at all.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Really, I'm not surprised you did clock it. It was
- 18:24Speaker 3: really good, really really good. All right, let's talk what
- 18:27Speaker 3: we wished for europ Eric.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Okay, so the initial I don't know if it's gonna
- 18:35Speaker 5: be cute or not, but when Cameron Noah is driving
- 18:39Speaker 5: or doing his wheelbarrow across the street and he gets
- 18:43Speaker 5: annoyed at her for almost running him down, I'm like,
- 18:46Speaker 5: the dude, just jaywalked with a wheelbarrow in front of her,
- 18:49Speaker 5: so she was totally in the right to run. So
- 18:52Speaker 5: it's funny. I remember flashing back to think like, oh,
- 18:55Speaker 5: this movie's is going to be horrible. So it sort
- 18:57Speaker 5: of initially set up this bad thing, which obviously everything
- 19:02Speaker 5: got got corrected. I didn't have a lot I didn't,
- 19:07Speaker 5: you know, really love about it. The one thing though,
- 19:10Speaker 5: that I found funny was the corn maze scene. Was
- 19:17Speaker 5: when they were he was mowing it and they see
- 19:20Speaker 5: all the corn flying and then they showed the overhead
- 19:22Speaker 5: and it's perfectly cleaned out and it's like complete and
- 19:27Speaker 5: it's massive and it's been manicured. So you know, once again,
- 19:33Speaker 5: as I said, I go to Hallmark Universe and it
- 19:34Speaker 5: doesn't really bug me per se, but I got a
- 19:37Speaker 5: chuckle out of how it was just perfectly clean and going.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Through that, yeah, like a crop circle.
- 19:45Speaker 5: And then the other is and I don't like I
- 19:48Speaker 5: thought the conflict was. They handled it well, but it
- 19:52Speaker 5: seems where Amy was being like, well, I promise my
- 19:55Speaker 5: daughter I would leave. It seems like that was one
- 19:57Speaker 5: of the ones which such an easy kind of to have,
- 20:01Speaker 5: whether or not you need to go or not, before
- 20:04Speaker 5: you're making these big decisions, you could just talk to
- 20:07Speaker 5: your daughter, right, So I thought that one was one
- 20:09Speaker 5: that could have been which she ended up doing and
- 20:12Speaker 5: having that conversation, But I just thought it was it
- 20:16Speaker 5: could have been for her, like him going to Australia
- 20:18Speaker 5: was really good, but she could have just resolved that
- 20:21Speaker 5: a little bit I think, quicker, easier.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought this story was pretty predictable, like we
- 20:28Speaker 4: knew what was going to happen, they were going to
- 20:29Speaker 4: be together at the end. But I appreciated that they
- 20:32Speaker 4: didn't throw in any huge miscommunications. You know, there was
- 20:38Speaker 4: a lot of like what's the word I'm looking for,
- 20:40Speaker 4: like side talk happening that could have led to a
- 20:44Speaker 4: misunderstanding between there are two leads, you know, because like
- 20:47Speaker 4: the daughter was involved and he had the friends and
- 20:50Speaker 4: the mutual friends and whatever.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Right, yeah, it's not manufactured conflict, like you can see
- 20:55Speaker 3: the conflict building the entire time. It makes sense, right,
- 20:59Speaker 3: But I agree with Eric, like those were simple conversations
- 21:03Speaker 3: that could have happened, and and and for a second,
- 21:07Speaker 3: I thought, why doesn't she just go to Australia with
- 21:09Speaker 3: this guy, like.
- 21:12Speaker 4: You know, she could go with him, like you know anyway.
- 21:16Speaker 4: So for me, that is the only wish that I had,
- 21:21Speaker 4: is that they could have maybe made it a little
- 21:24Speaker 4: bit more difficult, But I appreciated that they didn't.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Well, I feel like her not leaving for Australia is
- 21:29Speaker 3: a throwback to earlier that line that I love, like
- 21:31Speaker 3: why haven't you put down roots? And he says he
- 21:33Speaker 3: hasn't had any reason to, and now he has a
- 21:35Speaker 3: reason to, as opposed to him being like still not
- 21:37Speaker 3: putting down roots, you come with me, like grab your bags.
- 21:41Speaker 3: To Eric's point in the beginning of the movie, I
- 21:44Speaker 3: also uh had like a little moment where Amy and Noah.
- 21:48Speaker 3: It's like the second time they're crossing paths and she
- 21:51Speaker 3: drops a bag full of things and he's helping her
- 21:53Speaker 3: pick it up, and he's like, I've seen this a
- 21:54Speaker 3: lot of times, parents who can't let go, and look
- 21:58Speaker 3: every single parent dropping their kid off at college, just
- 22:00Speaker 3: having a moment of like push and pull and giving
- 22:02Speaker 3: them the freedom. But you're gonna miss them and I'm
- 22:04Speaker 3: losing control over their life. I just felt like, give
- 22:07Speaker 3: her a little bit of grace. Many I don't, but
- 22:10Speaker 3: they recover from that very quickly. He doesn't lean into that,
- 22:13Speaker 3: like you know, you're over the top. Mom roll am
- 22:19Speaker 3: I the only person who was very strongly team no
- 22:22Speaker 3: corn maze? They hear me out. I loved the corn maze.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I love the idea of a corn maze, even though
- 22:28Speaker 3: if someone I knew was lost in the corn Mazey'd
- 22:31Speaker 3: be lost there forever because I would never find my
- 22:34Speaker 3: way to them. However, he's pushing back. He's like, we
- 22:37Speaker 3: gotta harvest the corn early, and she's like, it's.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Fine, just do it.
- 22:41Speaker 3: When they mow that corn down, is that how you
- 22:43Speaker 3: harvest corn by completely mowing the stalk down? Because that
- 22:48Speaker 3: seems like a lot of crop they're losing for the
- 22:50Speaker 3: next year. I don't know how you harvest corn. I
- 22:52Speaker 3: don't either, Do you know how you harvest corn?
- 22:54Speaker 1: Eric?
- 22:55Speaker 5: Not that way? Yeah, you have the uh, the reaper
- 22:58Speaker 5: or whatever, and then that stock but.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Regrow the next year.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Yeah, but no, I think they replant. Okay, corn doesn't
- 23:05Speaker 5: grow again, but they yeah, it doesn't. Well, I don't know.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Maybe someone came through in the wheelbarrow and collected all
- 23:12Speaker 5: all that.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I just thought, but it's not such an easy thing
- 23:15Speaker 3: to just mow through all this, like they're losing a
- 23:18Speaker 3: lot of crop.
- 23:19Speaker 4: They they did an aerial shot of it. I was like,
- 23:23Speaker 4: that's that's huge. That's like acres and acres and acres,
- 23:27Speaker 4: Like why couldn't they just take it a little corner
- 23:29Speaker 4: of it and made like a cute little maize, Like
- 23:32Speaker 4: don't use your whole crop full of it, or.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Build one out of haybails.
- 23:35Speaker 4: That's what I thought too, when he had all that
- 23:36Speaker 4: hay just do that.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but she did address that because she was like
- 23:41Speaker 5: corn maize brings the people, and if we don't bring
- 23:44Speaker 5: the people, then we don't have a festival next year.
- 23:46Speaker 5: So sacrifice your corn.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Now, yeah, I thought she had a fair point too.
- 23:52Speaker 5: I do too, but he came around, you know, bring
- 23:54Speaker 5: her a little chicken soup and corn maze.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, we need to talk about the chicken soup.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Go ahead, let's hop to did you see that? Okay,
- 24:03Speaker 3: but I'll hold off. I'm gonna let our guests go first.
- 24:05Speaker 3: And did you see that moment?
- 24:07Speaker 5: Okay, Well, I'm gonna do the did you see that?
- 24:09Speaker 5: With by doing once again a little dropping name dropping
- 24:14Speaker 5: hopefully that the Marco polo was Tracy Andrene's favorite thing
- 24:20Speaker 5: that she's written that scene so, and I know we
- 24:24Speaker 5: said we all liked it as well. And the corn maze.
- 24:28Speaker 5: When I was asking Lee about what was funny, she
- 24:30Speaker 5: said filming that because they didn't fit on there and
- 24:34Speaker 5: they couldn't really drive the thing that they were it was,
- 24:38Speaker 5: she said, there was just like out of control laughing
- 24:40Speaker 5: and everyone was like the whole scene was just really
- 24:43Speaker 5: hodgepodge together, which I was knowing that going into it.
- 24:46Speaker 5: I was looking for it to see him like veering off.
- 24:49Speaker 5: He looked like he was handling it pretty well. But
- 24:53Speaker 5: she said that, yeah, that was absolutely hilarious, filming that scene,
- 24:58Speaker 5: so I like, I said, I, but I really liked that,
- 25:01Speaker 5: And then yeah, so are you going to I'll let
- 25:05Speaker 5: you talk about the chicken soup because I I'm not
- 25:06Speaker 5: sure how I feel about the chicken soup.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Well, that chicken soup was water like when he takes
- 25:11Speaker 3: the lid off, it's like water.
- 25:13Speaker 5: And there's's recipe.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Don't like His mom was like no, what No, I
- 25:19Speaker 3: didn't even like a Campbell soup would have looked better
- 25:22Speaker 3: than that. I don't know. I just was like, again,
- 25:25Speaker 3: it's the Hallmark Universe, gotta let it go. But I
- 25:27Speaker 3: just thought, like, don't take the lid off in that
- 25:29Speaker 3: moment if the soup's not going to bring it visually.
- 25:32Speaker 3: That was my thought.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I will tell you while we were While I was
- 25:36Speaker 4: watching that scene, I hopped on Pinterest to look for
- 25:38Speaker 4: a homemade chicken soup recipe.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Oh well, it is delicious. I also thought she leaned
- 25:43Speaker 3: a little too hard on like I have a cold,
- 25:45Speaker 3: I can't get off the couch. I'm like, lady, you
- 25:47Speaker 3: are a mom power through like I've not taken a
- 25:50Speaker 3: day off for a cold. She had sixteen years. Maybe
- 25:54Speaker 3: she was.
- 25:54Speaker 5: She also did not look very sick.
- 25:56Speaker 4: No, no, no, for me, the corn maze was the biggest.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Did you see that?
- 26:03Speaker 1: For me?
- 26:04Speaker 4: Like you said it was, those lanes were all cleaned up,
- 26:07Speaker 4: there was no debris. But there is one point where
- 26:11Speaker 4: he goes to start it and he's looking at a
- 26:14Speaker 4: map and then he just like goes in and I
- 26:17Speaker 4: was like, don't you guys have to like spray paint
- 26:19Speaker 4: this out or something like.
- 26:21Speaker 3: He's got photographic memory to know how to do it.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Willy nilly like in there and my corn maze never
- 26:26Speaker 3: would have connected. They would be like, we can't get
- 26:28Speaker 3: out because there's only one way in.
- 26:31Speaker 6: Can't You're lost forever.
- 26:32Speaker 3: It's the Harry Potter corn maan.
- 26:33Speaker 4: And then he puts the signs up where it's like
- 26:35Speaker 4: the questions of like who what family? What say has
- 26:39Speaker 4: the most family farms? I'm like, hell, I don't know.
- 26:41Speaker 4: I'm like, I would be lost in this thing forever.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I don't know the answer to these questions.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Marco, Yeah, what.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Else did you have? I know you had like a
- 26:48Speaker 4: big list.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Well, look, the apples are not that shiny off the tree.
- 26:52Speaker 3: They're they're not. They become shiny through whatever process they
- 26:55Speaker 3: go through. Sending them to the grocery store. They've got
- 26:57Speaker 3: that big pile of apples they picked.
- 26:58Speaker 4: They're not shiny, and the worst apples they have red delicious,
- 27:02Speaker 4: that the worst apples to eat, Apples are red that.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Aren't red delicious. Okay, fine, But anyway, she goes through
- 27:08Speaker 3: on their picking apples and she just like yanks one
- 27:10Speaker 3: off the tree and pulls an entire branch off, and
- 27:12Speaker 3: then the next moment she's like doing it correctly. But
- 27:15Speaker 3: they never discuss like how to do it. Twists you
- 27:19Speaker 3: gently twists and apples.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Eric, have you ever been apple picking when I was
- 27:22Speaker 4: a kid. I've never. I wouldn't from.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Michigan, so we have like all of that. You don't.
- 27:28Speaker 5: You know, it doesn't get cold enough out here to
- 27:30Speaker 5: have apple trees. You gotta be north, right, Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 3: We have apple farms. We go every year, almost every year,
- 27:35Speaker 3: but we pretend like it's fall. It's eighty five degrees.
- 27:38Speaker 4: So listen, Mike, I'm having a huge like deja vous
- 27:41Speaker 4: right now. My grandma lived in Michigan, grew up in Michigan,
- 27:45Speaker 4: and she always talked about Johnny appleseed. Is that some
- 27:47Speaker 4: sort of like folklore for Michigan.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Well, no, it's like Americana.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 27:54Speaker 5: I went across the whole country and planted his seeds
- 27:57Speaker 5: across the entire country, and that's why we have apples.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Was only in Michigan.
- 28:02Speaker 3: She rereck coon on Johnny apple Seed.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Yeah, totally.
- 28:04Speaker 6: My last did you see that?
- 28:05Speaker 3: Is they apparently make a sixteen hour drive in like
- 28:08Speaker 3: four hours because they leave from LA. They arrive in
- 28:11Speaker 3: the same clothes on the same day. They've only had
- 28:13Speaker 3: a muffin for a snack from LA to Oregon wherever
- 28:16Speaker 3: Oregon College is, even if it's southern Oregon, that's like
- 28:19Speaker 3: a sixteen hour drive from LA.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Yeah. I was wondering too. Her brother never sent her clothes.
- 28:25Speaker 4: She only had like enough clothes for like two days.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I'm like, what the heck where'd
- 28:31Speaker 5: she get all that extra clothing from?
- 28:33Speaker 4: And beautiful clothing cashmew sweaters, beautiful coats, and.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Her big, beautiful office that this temporary employee at the
- 28:40Speaker 3: university has been given with these wood panel walls and
- 28:44Speaker 3: big enough room to have a giant conference table.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Yeah. When they show that, I thought, why wouldn't she
- 28:49Speaker 4: be working out of her home?
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Exactly exactly.
- 28:53Speaker 5: That was weird.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yeah, this contract employee. Do you have anything else?
- 28:57Speaker 1: Eric?
- 28:58Speaker 6: And that did you see that? Category?
- 29:00Speaker 5: Well, okay, so I was gonna say with the soup.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I couldn't figure out was he like tucking her into
- 29:06Speaker 5: bed or was she just on the couch.
- 29:09Speaker 4: She was on the couch, but it was kind of
- 29:11Speaker 4: creepy how like he put the blanket like up to
- 29:14Speaker 4: her neck.
- 29:15Speaker 5: It just seemed it seemed a little like, I know
- 29:18Speaker 5: they were at this point like hey, I dig you,
- 29:21Speaker 5: you dig me kind of stuff, but it did seem
- 29:24Speaker 5: pretty intimate.
- 29:25Speaker 3: I think so too.
- 29:26Speaker 4: And their faces were so close. I'm like, a woman
- 29:28Speaker 4: who was that sick? He should not put his face.
- 29:30Speaker 3: That close to hers.
- 29:32Speaker 5: She's cute. I would risk a cold for Oh, Kelly
- 29:36Speaker 5: Ruthiford action.
- 29:37Speaker 4: She's cute.
- 29:39Speaker 3: There's a scene and You've Got Mail, which I reference
- 29:41Speaker 3: a lot on this podcast where Meg Ryan's characteristic and
- 29:44Speaker 3: Tom Hanks comes over and I heard you were sick,
- 29:47Speaker 3: and he brings her flowers and makes her tea with honey,
- 29:50Speaker 3: and it's a very sweet scene, very intimate too, and
- 29:52Speaker 3: they are still kind of like clashing at that point
- 29:55Speaker 3: in the movie. I don't know if you've got male fan, Eric,
- 29:57Speaker 3: but the scene was reminiscent of that for me.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Is that a night that's in nineties?
- 30:03Speaker 3: Right? Yeah?
- 30:04Speaker 5: Nineties? Yeah? Yeah?
- 30:05Speaker 3: I mean AOL is the star of that movie with
- 30:08Speaker 3: the dial up tone, so as it's.
- 30:10Speaker 5: Having that conversation at work the other day about back
- 30:13Speaker 5: when used to have that little noise and it would
- 30:15Speaker 5: just send those doorphins running through your body and you.
- 30:19Speaker 4: You've got mail, totally look at the phone, the house phone,
- 30:22Speaker 4: and connect my computer to it.
- 30:24Speaker 3: It was awesome the day we got that AOL CD
- 30:27Speaker 3: in the mail is the best, damn my life. All right,
- 30:31Speaker 3: let's rate this movie and then we're going to move
- 30:33Speaker 3: on to a special segment. Eric. Out of five stars,
- 30:36Speaker 3: what do you give love of course four and a half?
- 30:39Speaker 4: Ooh nice?
- 30:40Speaker 3: I gave it four stars, three point seventy five. It's
- 30:44Speaker 3: not a low rating.
- 30:45Speaker 4: It to me, it seems low.
- 30:47Speaker 3: I don't think it's low.
- 30:49Speaker 5: You knocked it down because I had water chicken soup.
- 30:51Speaker 5: That's right, really, although there's really nothing wrong with it.
- 30:55Speaker 6: There's nothing really wrong with this movie.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I agree it was a great and I'll be honest,
- 30:58Speaker 3: three point five is not about rating for me like
- 31:02Speaker 3: like it's.
- 31:02Speaker 4: It feels bad.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Okay, it does feel bad.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Well I don't mean it that way. We are going
- 31:08Speaker 3: to play a game called Gone Hallmark where we have
- 31:10Speaker 3: a series of rapid fire questions to throw at you.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Just answer the first thing that comes to mind.
- 31:16Speaker 6: Are you ready?
- 31:17Speaker 5: I don't know you can do it. You may need
- 31:19Speaker 5: filter button.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Hey, we have an explicit rating. So say they're not
- 31:24Speaker 3: first up bad boy or boy next door like me
- 31:29Speaker 3: in a Harmark movie.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Are you asking like like myself? Or what do I like?
- 31:39Speaker 3: As far as the actor to be, I mean, choose
- 31:41Speaker 3: your own adventure here, but the spirit with which it
- 31:46Speaker 3: was intended was in a Hallmark movie.
- 31:48Speaker 6: Is the ending of that sentence, Well.
- 31:51Speaker 5: I'd have to I'm definitely this a terrible bad boy.
- 31:55Speaker 6: So your team boy next door?
- 31:57Speaker 4: No, he's team bad boy.
- 31:59Speaker 5: I'm a bad boy.
- 32:00Speaker 6: Oh you are an.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Actual bad boy?
- 32:03Speaker 4: No, he likes bad boys both.
- 32:06Speaker 6: Okay, all right.
- 32:07Speaker 5: I feel bad or a little awkward saying I like
- 32:09Speaker 5: bad boys.
- 32:10Speaker 4: But I'm sorry, I'm.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Not judgement I'm not judgmental, and I love everybody.
- 32:14Speaker 3: So all right, if you have to pick one, do
- 32:17Speaker 3: you pick the way home.
- 32:18Speaker 5: Or ride considering I never saw ride, I'd have to
- 32:21Speaker 5: go with the way Home.
- 32:23Speaker 6: It's the right choice.
- 32:24Speaker 4: It is the right choice.
- 32:25Speaker 3: In a Hallmark movie, do you prefer a fake dating
- 32:27Speaker 3: trope or an enemy's to lover's trope?
- 32:30Speaker 5: Oh, I'd have to go with the fake only because
- 32:34Speaker 5: the frenemies sometimes they're just too harsh and I'm like
- 32:37Speaker 5: that person who never like that person after that introduction?
- 32:41Speaker 3: Agree, WHOA?
- 32:43Speaker 6: All right?
- 32:44Speaker 3: Another wedding Veil trilogy? Yay or nay?
- 32:48Speaker 5: I'm done. I liked it, but I just don't know
- 32:52Speaker 5: where it goes unless they go into the guys.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Oh hey, hey, do you want to see digital snow?
- 33:00Speaker 3: Or do you want to see foe leaves?
