- 0:56Speaker 1: But I got to bet at about three am. But
- 0:58Speaker 1: I'm here. Whoa late night, gee, in my in my seat,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I am here and ready to go because today we
- 1:05Speaker 1: have a great guest, Max, Max Oberg Oberg. Yes, I
- 1:09Speaker 1: want to make sure I say it right because people
- 1:11Speaker 1: have slaughtered my name for years. They call me everything
- 1:14Speaker 1: but Stothard. But Max is with the Rickets for Senate
- 1:18Speaker 1: campaign and he is the deputy campaign manager.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Good morning, Good morning to you as well. It's great
- 1:24Speaker 2: to be here.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you for being here this morning. And we're
- 1:27Speaker 1: going to talk a bit about the Rickets, a lot
- 1:29Speaker 1: about the Rickets race. But you know, first of all,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I just want to say, you know, here here we
- 1:35Speaker 1: have Dan Osborne, the Independent that is running for well
- 1:42Speaker 1: for Senate. We do know that the elected in the
- 1:47Speaker 1: primary has dropped out yep, which is Cindy Burbank. Big
- 1:52Speaker 1: surprise on that one too, Yes, quite shocking. But just recently.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We're going to talk a lot about what Dan Osborne
- 1:59Speaker 1: has been saying. But you have a new commercial on
- 2:04Speaker 1: and add on a jingle on that I think is great.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And for somebody that has been myself in nine different elections, uh,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you know, I watch everybody's media and and what things
- 2:18Speaker 1: are catchy and one thing what things are not and
- 2:22Speaker 1: this one is great and let's let's play it, Peyton,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you got it ready, Let's play it and then let's
- 2:28Speaker 1: talk about it because I love this one. If you've
- 2:31Speaker 1: been listening to KFAB, I think you've probably heard it.
- 2:34Speaker 1: But let's play it again, and then Max and I
- 2:37Speaker 1: are going to talk about it.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I'm pe Ricketts Canada for sent and I approve this message.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Fate.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Dan Osborne is a Democrat voted for Hillary. That's a
- 2:48Speaker 3: fact line the voters trying to have the liberal things
- 2:52Speaker 3: he feels inside.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He is a faith Democrat Houseborn.
- 2:57Speaker 3: He is a fake Democrat house and he is a
- 3:00Speaker 3: fake Democrats. A Democrat, open borders, take our guns, higher taxes.
- 3:10Speaker 3: That's no fun both for Osborne and you'll see the
- 3:13Speaker 3: Democrats will run DC.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Just tell the truth.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Democrat, A'll stop being a fake Democrat Afe Born, he
- 3:22Speaker 3: is so fake Democrat. Off dans a Democrats a Democrat,
- 3:30Speaker 3: Dan the Democrat.
- 3:32Speaker 2: To hear more, visit Dan dot Democrat. That's Dan dot Democrat.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Paid for it by Pete Rickets for Senat and I
- 3:40Speaker 1: want to hear what. I love that and I want
- 3:42Speaker 1: to hear what you all have to think about that too,
- 3:44Speaker 1: So call in and email us and let us know
- 3:47Speaker 1: what you think about it, and they first want to
- 3:48Speaker 1: start out Max to say that that we have reached
- 3:51Speaker 1: out to the Dan Osborne campaign. He could certainly come
- 3:55Speaker 1: on this show anytime he wants, and he could come
- 3:58Speaker 1: on and give himself a rebubb on this. So, Dan,
- 4:01Speaker 1: if you are listening, which I highly doubt, but you
- 4:04Speaker 1: are welcome to come on this show and talk about
- 4:06Speaker 1: your campaign too. Be Max give us a lowdown on
- 4:11Speaker 1: that ad.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Well, I'll start with it has been stuck in my
- 4:14Speaker 2: head for ever since I first heard it. So I'll
- 4:17Speaker 2: find myself driving or just in the office and you
- 4:19Speaker 2: just hear Dan's a Democrat repeating on an endless cycle,
- 4:23Speaker 2: which I think is something that's very important to get
- 4:25Speaker 2: that message out to voters.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I heard my grandson say democrat oz bor the other day,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and I thought, this is really resonating with people. It's
- 4:33Speaker 1: those catchy little phrases that get you that you keep
- 4:36Speaker 1: on thinking over and over and over.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yep.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yeah, So who thought up this commercial?
- 4:42Speaker 2: You know? It was kind of a team effort. I
- 4:44Speaker 2: kind of joke that we have like a comm's council
- 4:47Speaker 2: rather than just a one person shop, so we kind
- 4:49Speaker 2: of just brainstorm ideas and it kind of came up
- 4:52Speaker 2: from there and we were like, what if we did
- 4:54Speaker 2: a jingle? And then it was born and it's been
- 4:58Speaker 2: stuck in my head ever since.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Well, let's talk. Let's talk about what you're saying in
- 5:03Speaker 1: that and you're saying he's a Democrat and he's a fake.
- 5:08Speaker 1: What we know about Dan Osborne, what I know is
- 5:11Speaker 1: not very much. I mean, he's an industrial mechanic, he's
- 5:15Speaker 1: a former Omaha union leader with Kellogg, you know, and
- 5:19Speaker 1: then he he what he has said, thinks that he
- 5:22Speaker 1: has said. It seems like he talks out of both
- 5:24Speaker 1: sides of his mouth. To me, do you find that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yep, he'll Uh, it depends on the room he's in.
- 5:29Speaker 2: If he's in a room with say, more rural voters,
- 5:32Speaker 2: he'll be Trump's best friend. If he is in California
- 5:36Speaker 2: fundraising with Hollywood actors, then he is like ready to
- 5:40Speaker 2: to go full full democratic socialist.
- 5:43Speaker 1: He is in California with with celebrities.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You know, I'm not sure where he is at the moment,
- 5:48Speaker 2: but if I to guess, I would guess he's probably
- 5:51Speaker 2: fundraising on one of the coasts. That's where the majority
- 5:54Speaker 2: of his money comes from.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Okay, well, I think you know, everybody knows that that
- 5:58Speaker 1: with the state Democrat Party endorsing him, with the Cindy
- 6:02Speaker 1: Burbank out of the race, now we absolutely know that
- 6:06Speaker 1: he leans to the left and he's going to I mean,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I don't think there's any doubt in anybody's mind he's
- 6:12Speaker 1: going to vote Democrat. But let's just talk about some
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the things he said. Just recently, he was out
- 6:17Speaker 1: in western Nebraska at a farm and he was speaking,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and he said, in twenty twenty four, he learned while
- 6:23Speaker 1: traveling the state, many that live in rule Nebraska assume
- 6:27Speaker 1: Omaha and Lincoln politicians don't want to deal with issues
- 6:31Speaker 1: in rural areas. Some truth to that, I think there
- 6:35Speaker 1: are some, because I find people all over the state
- 6:38Speaker 1: of Nebraska think that people in Omaha and Lincoln only
- 6:41Speaker 1: care about Omaha Lincoln. And then he brought up the
- 6:44Speaker 1: examples of Rhodes and broadband. So talk about that a
- 6:48Speaker 1: little bit.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Well, you know, Dan will say whatever he has to
- 6:51Speaker 2: say to get elected, but when you actually ask him
- 6:53Speaker 2: about the policies he stands for, he can't give you
- 6:56Speaker 2: the slightest bit of detail.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Like what is he going to do different in Rule Nebraska.
- 7:01Speaker 2: That's exactly don't really know what Dan's actual policies are.
- 7:06Speaker 2: He'll say a good uh kind of I like to
- 7:08Speaker 2: joke that it's a slopulous talking point. It sounds good,
- 7:11Speaker 2: but there's no depth to it, and that's kind of
- 7:13Speaker 2: his mo o. So especially with like kind of the
- 7:17Speaker 2: rural issues he's He's said, uh before that he doesn't
- 7:21Speaker 2: know the first thing about farming or ranching, and now
- 7:23Speaker 2: he's he's out saying that he's the candidate for farmers
- 7:26Speaker 2: and ranchers.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Well, what he says, what I just said that he quoted,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I mean it was it's a little bit confusing in
- 7:33Speaker 1: itself because he said many that live in Rule Nebraska
- 7:36Speaker 1: assume Omahon Lincoln politicians don't want to deal with issues. Well,
- 7:39Speaker 1: he's trying to talk about Pete Ricketts, but he's also
- 7:42Speaker 1: from this area.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yep.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so it does. I mean, you know, it doesn't
- 7:47Speaker 1: make any sense to me what he is saying there.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Max Oberg is with us and he was with the
- 7:52Speaker 1: Ricketts campaign for Senate. He's a deputy campaign manager. Another
- 7:56Speaker 1: thing that he criticizes when he talks, as he said,
- 8:00Speaker 1: is Congress Rubber stamps economic chaos. Ooh, that sounds dramatic
- 8:05Speaker 1: of the Trump administration. And then he criticizes the war
- 8:09Speaker 1: in Iran, saying it's driving cost stuff. But he also
- 8:13Speaker 1: when he's out in western Nebraska, say that tariffs hurt Egg,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Like he is against the tariffs. But in another interview
- 8:21Speaker 1: that I read with him, he said he supports tariffs
- 8:24Speaker 1: to help the automakers and the steel workers and others.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So and then he comes back and he says, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: Trump's policy hurts soybean farmers. So where does he stand
- 8:34Speaker 1: with tariffs?
- 8:35Speaker 2: That's the thing with Dan, You never quite know where
- 8:37Speaker 2: he stands because it changes by the minute. He'll say
- 8:41Speaker 2: tariffs are great, and then he'll lay out why tariffs
- 8:43Speaker 2: are great for certain people, but then he doesn't want
- 8:46Speaker 2: tariffs for others. He's again all over the map. You
- 8:49Speaker 2: can't really pin him down on any issues because he'll
- 8:52Speaker 2: just say anything or do anything to get elected.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Well, tell me how Ricketts feels about these tariffs and
- 8:58Speaker 1: the tariffs for say, the steel workers and the automakers
- 9:02Speaker 1: and tariffs on you know, the things that will hurt Egg.
- 9:06Speaker 1: How does Senator Ricketts vieel in there?
- 9:08Speaker 2: You know, Senator Ricketts sees it from the perspective, I mean,
- 9:11Speaker 2: he was a businessman. He sees that a lot of
- 9:14Speaker 2: these countries over the past twenty thirty years have put
- 9:17Speaker 2: tariffs on American products, but then we haven't been charging
- 9:22Speaker 2: them back, so they've been able to kind of rip
- 9:23Speaker 2: off a lot of our workers, our manufacturers, our farmers,
- 9:27Speaker 2: our ranchers by like Canada like not allowing a lot
- 9:29Speaker 2: of our dairy products into Canada. And so we need
- 9:33Speaker 2: to level the playing field to kind of set the
- 9:36Speaker 2: like stand up for American workers and American farmers and
- 9:39Speaker 2: American ranchers.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And another thing that Osborne said is he wants to
- 9:44Speaker 1: limit foreign ownership of egg land in business in the
- 9:47Speaker 1: state of Nebraska. What has Senator Ricketts done that was
- 9:52Speaker 1: different than that?
- 9:53Speaker 2: You know, senator like Dan likes to talk, but the
- 9:57Speaker 2: only thing Dan Osborne has done is cost five hundred
- 9:59Speaker 2: union jobs at Kellogg's. Where Senator Rickets right now is
- 10:02Speaker 2: in the Senate, he is one of the leading voices
- 10:04Speaker 2: on standing up to communist China. He's got two bills
- 10:07Speaker 2: at the moment, the Plot Act and the Affida Act,
- 10:10Speaker 2: which are both meant to stop Chinese ownership of American
- 10:15Speaker 2: farmland from both an economic perspective and a national security perspective.
- 10:19Speaker 2: We just saw at the Air Force base here in Omaha,
- 10:22Speaker 2: a Chinese national was caught taking photos of our national security.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So it's not only just an economic detriment, but it's
- 10:30Speaker 2: also a national security concern.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So Ricketts already has a record on how he stands
- 10:35Speaker 1: on this.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Okay, yep.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Another thing that he accused Senator Ricketts of is he
- 10:40Speaker 1: says his policies are making ranchers compete with their processors,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and then he brings up Smithfield and other foreign owned
- 10:48Speaker 1: meat packing companies to own livestock in the US. You know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: this is an area that I don't have a lot
- 10:55Speaker 1: of expertise, but can you speak to that.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, So when when Senator Ricketts was governor in Nebraska,
- 11:02Speaker 2: he actually, I'm not sure if you've ever heard of
- 11:05Speaker 2: sustainable beef in North Platte. So that idea came from
- 11:09Speaker 2: a trip, a foreign trip to kind of promote Nebraska's
- 11:13Speaker 2: ask agricultural and ranching goods, and it kind of got
- 11:19Speaker 2: brought up that there's a lack of competition for a
- 11:21Speaker 2: lot of these farmers or these ranchers to be able
- 11:23Speaker 2: to sell their beef. And so Senator Ricketts was working
- 11:26Speaker 2: with some of the guys from North Platte and they
- 11:28Speaker 2: kind of thought up and helped back and make sustainable
- 11:32Speaker 2: beef a beef a reality. And now it's one of
- 11:35Speaker 2: the largest processing plants out in western Nebraska and it's
- 11:39Speaker 2: independently owned or it's a co op of ranchers. So
- 11:43Speaker 2: it's kind of forced some competition against the big four
- 11:46Speaker 2: meat packers. And so again Dan likes to talk, but
- 11:50Speaker 2: Senator Ricketts is actually delivered.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Okay good and the big four meat packing companies. He
- 11:59Speaker 1: keeps on bringing up the Tyson plant closure in Lexington,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and he thinks it could have been prevented if the
- 12:06Speaker 1: if the Feds better enforced an act that was passed
- 12:10Speaker 1: in nineteen twenty one. I think it's called the Stockyard Act.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's kind of ironic. The actual act that
- 12:17Speaker 2: Dan Osborne is mentioning should be enforced actually has no teeth.
- 12:21Speaker 2: You cannot really enforce it. The actual act that would
- 12:24Speaker 2: have the capabilities to force the sale or force the
- 12:28Speaker 2: like keeping a plant open is the Sherman Act. Again,
- 12:32Speaker 2: this is just kind of Dan like seeing something that
- 12:35Speaker 2: sounds like punchy and being like, oh, I'm going to
- 12:38Speaker 2: make that my identity and kind of The one thing
- 12:40Speaker 2: I find ironic is Dans went all in on the
- 12:43Speaker 2: Tyson plant, but he hasn't. He never mentions how he
- 12:47Speaker 2: shut down the Kellogg's plant. Exactly When he got asked
- 12:50Speaker 2: about Kellogg's closing this month and losing five hundred union
- 12:53Speaker 2: jobs here in Omaha, his response was, well, cereal sales
- 12:57Speaker 2: are down.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Right, but protein drinks and all those other things are up.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I hate to see this with the Kellogg's plant. Max
- 13:07Speaker 1: Oberg is here with the Ricketts campaign. Another thing I
- 13:11Speaker 1: want you to talk about is Osborne has attacked the
- 13:15Speaker 1: Data Center, the Data Centers for increasing working people's electricity costs.
- 13:22Speaker 1: But then he comes out on another speech and says
- 13:26Speaker 1: he doesn't want to lose AI to China, And so
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, where does he really stand on this and
- 13:33Speaker 1: where does Senator Ricketts stand. Excuse me, I can't talk
- 13:37Speaker 1: to it. It's because I didn't sleep night. I know
- 13:41Speaker 1: with the data centers, because a lot of people right
- 13:43Speaker 1: now are scratching their heads about what's going on with
- 13:46Speaker 1: the Data Center and the amount of water they use.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And then where does the water go?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yep. Again, this is just Dan Osborne speaking out of
- 13:54Speaker 2: both sides of his mouth and things that sound good
- 13:57Speaker 2: from either sides and actually not having a plan. How
- 14:00Speaker 2: Senator Rickets sees it is it's a balancing act. We
- 14:03Speaker 2: have to stand up to communists China because their goal
- 14:06Speaker 2: is world domination, and AI is a big portion of
- 14:10Speaker 2: that goal. But then on the other hand, we need
- 14:12Speaker 2: to be able to ensure that these data centers are
- 14:16Speaker 2: meeting local zoning laws, that they're benefiting the community that
- 14:18Speaker 2: they're going to. They're not just like going in and
- 14:21Speaker 2: like kind of taking over. Like it needs to be
- 14:23Speaker 2: a collaboration between the local community and these data centers
- 14:27Speaker 2: that can benefit both sides.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And the electricity the aus and the water they use
- 14:32Speaker 1: they pay for Yep. I mean there's no doubt about that.
- 14:35Speaker 1: A lot of people ask me about that in the past,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and that has worked out, say the electricity with OPPD,
- 14:43Speaker 1: they work out what the cost will be and they
- 14:45Speaker 1: pay for that. Let's jump to one other subject here,
- 14:48Speaker 1: the big beautiful Bill, and he brings up that quite often,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and then he blames Senator Ricketts for voting for the
- 14:58Speaker 1: Big beautiful bill that include structural cuts that are damaging
- 15:02Speaker 1: to rural hospitals and the funding to rural hospitals. And
- 15:07Speaker 1: he says, they just put a little bit of money
- 15:09Speaker 1: into a patch of wound, but it's not going to last.
- 15:12Speaker 1: So talk about Senator Rickett's position on that and what
- 15:15Speaker 1: Dan Osborne saying.
- 15:16Speaker 2: You know, that's one of the ironies of Dan Osborne.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He claims he's for the workers and the people, but
- 15:22Speaker 2: he proudly promotes that he would have voted against cutting
- 15:26Speaker 2: taxes on waitresses and bartenders tips, or cutting taxes on
- 15:30Speaker 2: the overtime of factory workers. Said dan would want to
- 15:33Speaker 2: give those like he would vote would have voted to
- 15:35Speaker 2: raise taxes and then give those benefits to the illegal
- 15:38Speaker 2: immigrants that he wants to give a Social Security card.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But on the topic of rural hospitals, Senator Ricketts ensured
- 15:45Speaker 2: in the Working Family's Tax Cut Act that there was
- 15:49Speaker 2: money for rural hospital funding, and so I believe, don't
- 15:54Speaker 2: off the top of my head, around two hundred and
- 15:57Speaker 2: fifty million dollars was allocated specifically to the state of Nebraska,
- 16:01Speaker 2: and then the state chooses how to disperse that funding
- 16:03Speaker 2: to rural hospitals, So a lot of that was sent
- 16:08Speaker 2: back to the state. But part of the Democrats like
- 16:12Speaker 2: to claim that these rural hospital cuts, But what it
- 16:15Speaker 2: actually was is the Working Families Tax Cut Act made
- 16:18Speaker 2: it so if you were working aged adult, you had
- 16:22Speaker 2: to This is how low the limit was for receiving benefits.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Work twenty hours a week, volunteer twenty hours a week,
- 16:31Speaker 2: or go to school for twenty hours a week. You
- 16:33Speaker 2: and I think you and I can agree twenty hours
- 16:35Speaker 2: a week is not a tough lift for able bodied adult.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And so it's just kind of Democrats trying to make
- 16:42Speaker 2: a mountain out of a mole hole.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Well, they try to spin things and they try to
- 16:46Speaker 1: confuse you. That's that's the worst thing I think about
- 16:50Speaker 1: what campaigns have deteriorated to because they all of these
- 16:54Speaker 1: negative ads. Why did they do them? Because they work,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and but what did they do? They try to confuse you,
- 17:00Speaker 1: the voters. They try to just spew out all of
- 17:03Speaker 1: these things that they don't have any backing for, or
- 17:05Speaker 1: they can't. They can't come and say here's what I
- 17:08Speaker 1: would do better, here's how I if you like me,
- 17:11Speaker 1: here's how I would make your life better. They just
- 17:14Speaker 1: go after the opponent and they really don't have an answer,
- 17:17Speaker 1: a solution.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Well that's what If you look at Dan Osborne's Twitter,
- 17:20Speaker 2: it's kind of just like a rant session. Yes, it's
- 17:23Speaker 2: like just complaining about something every day. Right, we're offering
- 17:26Speaker 2: solutions right now.
- 17:28Speaker 1: This is Max Oberg, whether it's with the deputy campaign
- 17:30Speaker 1: manager for the Ricketts campaign. Now, I'm going to get
- 17:33Speaker 1: to another subject because and I'm going to play another
- 17:35Speaker 1: ad and have you respond to it. But you know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: here's what we hear a lot. Well, Ricketts can just
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know, he's he's a little rich boy. He's got
- 17:44Speaker 1: a rich daddy. He just writes himself five million dollar checks.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Nobody knows the wrath of Pete Ricketts, says Dan Osborne.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm going to play in another ad in all fairness,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and then I want you to comment on this perfect.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Ricketts is used to getting things paid for. Born into
- 18:03Speaker 4: a billionaire family, Ricketts spent millions of his dad's money
- 18:06Speaker 4: bank rolling his campaigns. That's why Ricketts doesn't mind voting
- 18:10Speaker 4: to increase our costs, tear of taxes, gas prices through
- 18:14Speaker 4: the roof, cuts to medicaid, and closing rural hospitals in
- 18:18Speaker 4: Pete Ricketts's world, and things cost more. Dad just picks
- 18:22Speaker 4: up the town. Tell Senator Ricketts, Nebraskans pay our own way,
- 18:26Speaker 4: bring down our costs now paid for by Nebraska Groundswell.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Wow. You know when Speaker Mike Johnson was here a
- 18:34Speaker 1: week or so ago for Brinker Herding, and the one
- 18:37Speaker 1: thing I asked him about is I said, how do
- 18:39Speaker 1: we increase voter turnout? And he said people vote for
- 18:42Speaker 1: mainly two reasons, out of fear and out of anger.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Notice the music ad I'm in at scary music that's
- 18:51Speaker 1: supposed to make you all very very afraid. Comment about
- 18:55Speaker 1: what was said in that ad.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Well, you know, at itself. I think when you look
- 18:59Speaker 2: at what is being the Democraocratic Party is being taken
- 19:03Speaker 2: over by a radical democratic socialist wing. And one of
- 19:06Speaker 2: the platforms of the democratic socialist wing is to abolish capitalism.
- 19:12Speaker 2: They see successful business as the enemy. And if you
- 19:18Speaker 2: dig deep into that, at what they're attacking is they're
- 19:20Speaker 2: attacking a Omaha company that employed twenty three hundred people.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Senator Ricketts was born in Nebraska City. His family didn't
- 19:29Speaker 2: really like make their money until later in his life,
- 19:32Speaker 2: and he worked at TD Ameritrade and they employed twenty
- 19:37Speaker 2: three hundred Nebraskans.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And you can't you can't control who your father and
- 19:42Speaker 1: mother are. Yeah, I mean seriously, I mean, this is
- 19:45Speaker 1: what's so crazy about it. Joe Ricketts was a self
- 19:49Speaker 1: made millionaire. There is no doubt. I mean he he's
- 19:53Speaker 1: maybe beyond that billionaire, but he did it himself.
- 19:57Speaker 2: He did it himself, and he did it employing American
- 19:59Speaker 2: worker with well paying jobs and kept it. I mean,
- 20:03Speaker 2: all these other large companies they outsource so they moved
- 20:06Speaker 2: to New York, they kept it here in Omaha and
- 20:09Speaker 2: buying Nebraskans and like kind of like Senator Ricketts could
- 20:13Speaker 2: have used his money to do all of these these
- 20:17Speaker 2: these fancy things. Instead, he used it to help pass
- 20:21Speaker 2: the debt, like to bring back the death penalty in
- 20:23Speaker 2: Nebraska to keep Nebraska safer. He used it to help
- 20:27Speaker 2: install common sense voter I D laws. Uh, he's used
- 20:30Speaker 2: it to benefit the state with common sense policies.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Uh.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Where if you look at what Dan Osborne does with
- 20:36Speaker 2: his money, he set up multiple LLCs and Wyoming to
- 20:39Speaker 2: skirt disclosure laws. And also, I mean, I don't think
- 20:42Speaker 2: there's any irony in the fact that Wyoming doesn't have
- 20:45Speaker 2: an income tax and he's been funneling over half a
- 20:49Speaker 2: million dollars of campaign money and pack money into his
- 20:52Speaker 2: family's bank accounts.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And this is what people really need to know. I
- 20:56Speaker 1: mean again, the Rickets family is known as being a
- 20:59Speaker 1: wealthy family. But Joe Ricketts, the dad started TDM or trade,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's a self made successful person. He employs
- 21:09Speaker 1: lots and lots of people. They could have chosen any
- 21:12Speaker 1: city in the entire world really for their headquarter, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: they kept it here, you know. And and Pete Ricketts
- 21:20Speaker 1: work for his dad. I mean, it wasn't that his
- 21:23Speaker 1: dad said, here, son, here's a lot of money, go
- 21:26Speaker 1: out and do whatever you want. Yeah, they work. The
- 21:28Speaker 1: Ricket kids work, and Pete Rickett's kids are the same way.
- 21:32Speaker 1: They work too. And if people knew Pete Ricketts personally,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he is a very unassuming person. I mean, if you
- 21:40Speaker 1: see him, if you see him walking down the street,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and as he always said, he doesn't like to wear
- 21:45Speaker 1: a hat because without his bald head, people don't recognize him.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I saw him at a Husker game in the cold weather,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and I said, you'd need to wear a hat and
- 21:52Speaker 1: he goes. People wouldn't recognize me without my bald head.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But he is such a down to earth per I mean,
- 22:01Speaker 1: and he really wants That's why he was governor, That's
- 22:03Speaker 1: why he wanted to be in the Senate. He wants
- 22:05Speaker 1: to do I find he wants to do with what
- 22:08Speaker 1: is right for Nebraska. And he's honest. I mean, I've
- 22:12Speaker 1: never found Pete Ricketts to even stretch the truth. I mean,
- 22:17Speaker 1: sometimes the truth can hurt, and yet he will tell
- 22:20Speaker 1: you the truth, and he will tell you the way
- 22:22Speaker 1: he stands on things.
- 22:23Speaker 2: That's the thing like this election, and like everyone knows
- 22:26Speaker 2: where Senator Ricketts stands on the issues. No one knows
- 22:29Speaker 2: where Dan Osborne is on any issues.
- 22:32Speaker 1: He talks a lot, but where he is and what
- 22:35Speaker 1: he is going to this is what y'all got to remember.
- 22:37Speaker 1: What he is going to do to make your life better,
- 22:40Speaker 1: What he is going to do to help you. That's
- 22:42Speaker 1: what I hope. There's a lot of debates and forums
- 22:45Speaker 1: where people say, well, if you're criticizing Senator Ricketts for
- 22:49Speaker 1: this or that, what is your position and what are
- 22:53Speaker 1: you going to do? I want an answer, yep, And
- 22:55Speaker 1: I want an easy quick answer, and you brought it
- 22:58Speaker 1: up earlier. You know, there are so many there are
- 23:00Speaker 1: socialists on this ballot this fall, and it's getting more
- 23:05Speaker 1: and more frightening. If you look at what just happened
- 23:07Speaker 1: in that primary in New York City. There are communists
- 23:11Speaker 1: that have got through the primary. There are communists that
- 23:14Speaker 1: have defeated longtime elected Democrats that were doing a relatively
- 23:18Speaker 1: good job. Yeah in leadership they were, And now this
- 23:21Speaker 1: is what is happening. I still go back to I
- 23:24Speaker 1: can't remem remember her first name, but Chevalier. She's the
- 23:27Speaker 1: one with the white glasses that said her hands were
- 23:30Speaker 1: dirty in a restaurant and she just wiped them on
- 23:32Speaker 1: an American flag. They want to rewrite the Constitution. I mean,
- 23:36Speaker 1: it is just baffling that some of these people are
- 23:39Speaker 1: getting through. But here's the reality, folks. Now, well, first
- 23:43Speaker 1: of all, well I want to bring this up. You know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: the reality is the Senate. The US Senate is organized
- 23:53Speaker 1: into majority and minority parties. That's all there is to it.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And Osborne is saying and he will not he has
- 24:02Speaker 1: said he doesn't know, he will cauc us with He
- 24:04Speaker 1: claims to be independent. But do we believe that.
- 24:08Speaker 6: Well.
- 24:09Speaker 2: So actually there's at a behind the scenes town hall,
- 24:12Speaker 2: Dan Osborne was asked which party he would cauc us
- 24:15Speaker 2: with and his response was not Pete Rickett's party.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Mm hmmm.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So there that tells you everything you need to know
- 24:23Speaker 2: about Dan's actual intentions if he were.
- 24:25Speaker 1: To see the right power, because there are two parties,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and my point is there are two parties in the Senate,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and you know, the Senate operates on a seniority system too,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and an independent just doesn't fit in to that process.
- 24:40Speaker 1: And you know, the Democrats passed on a Senate candidate
- 24:44Speaker 1: thinking an independent label what hide what his intentions are?
- 24:48Speaker 1: But I think every your commercial brings this out so well.
- 24:52Speaker 1: But I think the facts are working within a party
- 24:55Speaker 1: is how progress is made in the Senate.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and resources are allocated the state.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yes, And you know that we we understand that the
- 25:03Speaker 1: supreme law of the land is a US Constitution and
- 25:07Speaker 1: that there are candidates out there now that advocate changing
- 25:12Speaker 1: the US Constitution. The Declaration of Independence is a founding
- 25:16Speaker 1: document for the United States. That all men are created equal,
- 25:20Speaker 1: endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights. And there
- 25:24Speaker 1: are a lot of candidates that want to change that too.
- 25:28Speaker 1: They don't believe in it anymore. And this is what
- 25:31Speaker 1: we're dealing with. And I think, you know, Democrats definitely
- 25:34Speaker 1: have a deference of opinion on both of those things.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And the pledge of allegiance also, I'll go to that.
- 25:40Speaker 1: It's a formal, verbal promise of loyalty to our country
- 25:44Speaker 1: and to our flag. And the Democrats are totally dancing
- 25:47Speaker 1: around that too.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 25:49Speaker 1: So how how can they take an oath of office? Max?
- 25:52Speaker 2: You know, that's the thing, because we don't know who
- 25:55Speaker 2: their allegiance even is, right.
- 25:56Speaker 1: And they are swearing to the allegiance of what you
- 25:59Speaker 1: take an oath of office to the United States of
- 26:02Speaker 1: America and to support the US Constitution. I don't know
- 26:05Speaker 1: how they can be sworn in.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well they see the American flag as a napkin.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely. Max Oberg is here with the Ricketts campaign.
- 26:13Speaker 1: One other thing, I know we're running out of time,
- 26:16Speaker 1: but one other thing I really want to ask you. Teachers.
- 26:19Speaker 1: This is a big one that bothers me. A lot
- 26:22Speaker 1: teachers union, the NSCA, the Nebraska State Education Association, is
- 26:27Speaker 1: endorsing I think they should stay neutral. I don't know
- 26:31Speaker 1: why they do that, but they do it. They say
- 26:35Speaker 1: it's not a union, but it's every bit of a union.
- 26:37Speaker 1: And I guess because Dan Osborne was the union guy,
- 26:41Speaker 1: they feel like they have to back him, that he
- 26:44Speaker 1: will help him more. I think the teachers should not
- 26:48Speaker 1: get involved with political endorsements at all. What's your feeling
- 26:51Speaker 1: on that?
- 26:52Speaker 2: So you know, I was raised by my grandma was
- 26:54Speaker 2: an art teacher. She was part of a teachers union,
- 26:56Speaker 2: and it just drove her crazy the fact that a
- 26:59Speaker 2: lot of her we're going to fund political candidates that
- 27:02Speaker 2: she didn't necessarily agree. In Nebraska, she was this was
- 27:05Speaker 2: in Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, okay, but yeah, they it's become
- 27:09Speaker 2: almost like an arm of the Democratic Party, and much
- 27:13Speaker 2: too like a lot of the teachers don't agree with
- 27:15Speaker 2: a lot of the stuff they're they're pushing out her
- 27:17Speaker 2: candidates they're endorsing absolutely.
- 27:19Speaker 1: All right, Max Oberg is here with the Ricketts campaign again.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I will invite Dan Osborne or his campaign to be
- 27:26Speaker 1: on this show when he wants to. We will be
- 27:28Speaker 1: fair and respectful if he comes in the studio. I'd
- 27:32Speaker 1: like to have him. Any last words from you about
- 27:36Speaker 1: the Ricketts campaign.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You know this, when conservatives get out and vote and
- 27:40Speaker 2: pay attention, we win. I do think that there's a
- 27:43Speaker 2: lot of people are apathetic about this election, and there
- 27:46Speaker 2: they think that because Nebraska has been this historically red state, yes,
- 27:50Speaker 2: that it's going to stay that way. But the Democrats
- 27:52Speaker 2: are going full force on this election cycle. I mean,
- 27:55Speaker 2: George Soros has already spent fourteen million dollars on Dan
- 27:59Speaker 2: Osborne campaign through his connected groups. So there's a lot
- 28:03Speaker 2: of outside money pouring in and Republicans just need to
- 28:07Speaker 2: stick together and agree.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And you know, I bring that up a lot to say,
- 28:11Speaker 1: we don't need that outside money coming in Nebraska to
- 28:14Speaker 1: tell us Nebraska's how to vote exactly what we need.
- 28:16Speaker 1: We can figure it out on our own with good,
- 28:19Speaker 1: honest candidates. And I think that's that's the thing that
- 28:23Speaker 1: we have to keep in mind. And also we have
- 28:26Speaker 1: to use the word apathetic. I use it a lot
- 28:29Speaker 1: too with the Republicans just assuming that oh Omaha is
- 28:33Speaker 1: the blue dot. Now, look what happened to me. I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 1: I was a Republican mayor of the Blue dot for
- 28:39Speaker 1: twelve years. But the Democrats were so activated, so energized,
- 28:44Speaker 1: they were rabid and they wanted this seat and they
- 28:47Speaker 1: got it. And you know they want the congressional seat
- 28:51Speaker 1: too district too, they want the US Senate seat and
- 28:55Speaker 1: they are going to be activated. And US Republicans at
- 28:59Speaker 1: our Republicans are even independents or even the Democrats that
- 29:03Speaker 1: don't agree with what's going on. We all need to
- 29:06Speaker 1: get out and vote. The voter turnout in the primary
- 29:09Speaker 1: was twenty seven percent, yeah, which is shameful. So for
- 29:15Speaker 1: any of you that are complaining, you better a voter.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That's all I can say. But we have got to
- 29:20Speaker 1: get out. Our voice is not being heard if twenty
- 29:23Speaker 1: seven percent of the registered voters are voting. And this
- 29:27Speaker 1: is a very very important campaign. There is a lot
- 29:30Speaker 1: at stake right now. So thank you Max Oberg for
- 29:33Speaker 1: the Rickets campaign, for being on today. We could talk
- 29:36Speaker 1: and talk and talk, but I know we've got to
- 29:38Speaker 1: take a break. Peyton is looking at me with a
- 29:40Speaker 1: really stink eye over there. This is what he does
- 29:42Speaker 1: and he shakes his head. But we got to take
- 29:45Speaker 1: a break. Thank you for being.
- 29:46Speaker 2: With us, say thank you for having me.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely really interesting to talk and try to analyze
- 29:51Speaker 1: these races, but this one now it's Dan Osborne and
- 29:55Speaker 1: against Pete Ricketts. Interesting. We talked a little bit in
- 29:58Speaker 1: the break, but we didn't get to really discussing its.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Apparently there is a townhall dot com that is very
- 30:08Speaker 1: interesting and they are going to different political events in
- 30:11Speaker 1: different town halls, and there's the result is they usually
- 30:16Speaker 1: have some sort of a hidden camera or behind the
- 30:18Speaker 1: scene camera and they're catching candidates saying things that could
- 30:24Speaker 1: really get them into trouble or really tell the truth.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Yes, Gene, and I'll just read a little bit of
- 30:30Speaker 5: this article as it was written town hall dot Com.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Townhall Media previously reported that Osborne was responsible for recruiting
- 30:42Speaker 5: Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, and then we found out
- 30:46Speaker 5: yesterday it was released just before the Chris Baker Show.
- 30:50Speaker 5: A video obtained by Townhall Media shows nonpartisan legislative candidate
- 30:55Speaker 5: Caitlin Knutson, matter of fact lead divulging the seat to
- 31:00Speaker 5: a complete stranger. In the video, Canuteson tells an unidentified
- 31:05Speaker 5: individual that the original plan was for Democrats not to
- 31:08Speaker 5: field a candidate, allowing Osborne a clear path to take
- 31:12Speaker 5: on Ricketts, basically saying that Cindy Burbank would have an
- 31:18Speaker 5: easier path to winning the primary than dan Osborne. So
- 31:23Speaker 5: that's what the that's what that article from townhall dot
- 31:27Speaker 5: com from well, you know, on.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Election night she said the election night, the primary, election
- 31:31Speaker 1: night is when she said that she was she was
- 31:34Speaker 1: planning on dropping out. So I mean, I don't think
- 31:37Speaker 1: there's any doubt in anybody's mind that this was the plan,
- 31:41Speaker 1: that she would win the nomination, drop out and leave
- 31:45Speaker 1: a clear path for dan Osborne. But the Democrats are
- 31:47Speaker 1: already behind him. So it's it's one of those scratch
- 31:51Speaker 1: your head moments when you look at what's going on here,
- 31:54Speaker 1: but when you look at pay I guess our message
- 31:58Speaker 1: has to be we really have to pay attention to
- 32:01Speaker 1: what they are saying because you get a lot of
- 32:03Speaker 1: promises that are a lot of lies during campaigns. I
- 32:08Speaker 1: experienced it myself of opponents saying I'm going to do this,
- 32:12Speaker 1: and I'm going to do that, and I'm going to
- 32:15Speaker 1: make this better and I'm going to make that better,
- 32:18Speaker 1: and nobody really stops and puts them on the line
- 32:20Speaker 1: there and says, how how are you going to do this?
- 32:23Speaker 1: What are you going to do? And they don't have
- 32:27Speaker 1: an explanation for it and then once they are elected,
- 32:30Speaker 1: if they are elected, none of these promises happen.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Yeah, Gen, And even the simple things. I'll use this
- 32:37Speaker 5: as an example. There's a political sign that I pass
- 32:42Speaker 5: every day on my way into work and it is
- 32:45Speaker 5: a dan Osborne Independent sign and it's a picture dan Osborne.
- 32:49Speaker 5: The whole sign that's staked in the ground is read,
- 32:53Speaker 5: but then it says Independent dan Osborne. And that is
- 32:57Speaker 5: just some subliminal messaging. You see the red, you see
- 33:01Speaker 5: the Independent, even if you might hear some murmurs that
- 33:04Speaker 5: he might be a little bit of a left leaning guy.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Well it's you know, it's red. There's a little messaging there,
- 33:10Speaker 1: you know, there absolutely is. And that's why you know
- 33:13Speaker 1: the Again, these commercials, these ads, we're all going to
- 33:16Speaker 1: get sick of them before November, but they they have
- 33:20Speaker 1: been taking such a turn in the last probably four
- 33:24Speaker 1: years that they are just seems like the whole focus
- 33:28Speaker 1: is to confuse you and to to get fear and
- 33:33Speaker 1: get anger built up. That that's why I like this
- 33:35Speaker 1: little jingle that Rickett's campaign put out, because I mean
- 33:39Speaker 1: it's lighthearted, but it hits the truth and it's not
- 33:43Speaker 1: saying we're going to promise this, that and the other.
- 33:45Speaker 1: It's just saying the truth. And if my grandson is
- 33:49Speaker 1: saying democrat osborn, then I think it's catching on.
- 33:53Speaker 5: I played this on the show yesterday, the Cafe Bee
- 33:55Speaker 5: comment line yesterday when Chip Maxwell was filling in for you, Gene.
- 33:59Speaker 5: And just a little bit ironic here, But back in
- 34:03Speaker 5: the two thousand and six election for Senate between Ben
- 34:08Speaker 5: Nelson and Pete Ricketts, ben Nelson had a came out
- 34:13Speaker 5: with the song. He came out with the jingle and
- 34:15Speaker 5: it was all about Ben Nelson being from Skylarer, Nebraska,
- 34:20Speaker 5: small western town guy, and it had nothing to do
- 34:22Speaker 5: with Pete Ricketts. It was all a Ben Nelson thing.
- 34:25Speaker 5: But I just thought that was kind of funny, you know,
- 34:26Speaker 5: a little bit of a full circle there, you know.
- 34:28Speaker 5: You see you see that Ben ben Nelson music video
- 34:33Speaker 5: from six twenty years ago, and it was a catchy
- 34:36Speaker 5: little song from Ben.
- 34:38Speaker 1: And they're very clever. And back back to what we
- 34:41Speaker 1: were talking about with Max Oberg too, you know it,
- 34:44Speaker 1: the Independent, it doesn't that system. The Senate system operates
- 34:50Speaker 1: again on a seniority system, and the Independent really doesn't
- 34:54Speaker 1: fit in to that process and to effectively move legislation
- 35:00Speaker 1: in the Senate, you have to be in the majority,
- 35:02Speaker 1: as Senator Ricketts is and will likely be in twenty
- 35:07Speaker 1: twenty seven. So when Osborne is telling people he doesn't
- 35:12Speaker 1: know who he will cauc us with me to claim
- 35:16Speaker 1: his independence, it just doesn't sit right with many many people,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and they're saying, well, who are you and who will
- 35:24Speaker 1: you represent? And I think this is what we really
- 35:27Speaker 1: need to pay attention to until November because when all
- 35:31Speaker 1: of these like I said, he's endorsed by the farmer's
- 35:35Speaker 1: Nebraska Farmers Union. Okay, that's fine that you know, Ricketts
- 35:40Speaker 1: is also endorsed by the Osborne is endorsed by the
- 35:46Speaker 1: Nebraska Farmers Union, but Ricketts is endorsed by the Nebraska
- 35:49Speaker 1: Farm Bureau, which is actually bigger. But of course these
- 35:53Speaker 1: unions organized unions are going to side with him. The
- 35:56Speaker 1: thing that really catches me is when he will criticize,
- 36:00Speaker 1: for example, tariffs to one group saying they hurt egg
- 36:04Speaker 1: and then to another group the out workers are the
- 36:06Speaker 1: steel workers. He supports it because it helps them. And
- 36:10Speaker 1: so you know, you go back and forth depending on
- 36:12Speaker 1: who your audience is. That should raise a red flag
- 36:15Speaker 1: to all of you. But if we have any calls
- 36:18Speaker 1: or any comments coming in, and we will hopefully answer those.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I think Peyton's got one.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Coming right, Yeah, Geane, Let's let's take a quick break here.
- 36:28Speaker 5: We'll be back in just a moment. I got some
- 36:29Speaker 5: people on the phone lines. I'd love to get to them.
- 36:31Speaker 5: We'll hit the origins of the Cafe b comment line.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Let's hit a quick phone call here from Bob as
- 36:36Speaker 5: we're getting close to wrapping up the show. Gene, I
- 36:37Speaker 5: also want to hear about your trip, but let's hit
- 36:40Speaker 5: let's hit Bob first. Bob, thank you so much for
- 36:42Speaker 5: the call. Welcome in, you are alive with Jean's author.
- 36:46Speaker 6: It's actually Rob.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Rob excuse me.
- 36:48Speaker 6: You know, you know, Gene, you talked about, you know,
- 36:51Speaker 6: being a mayor in a blue city, and yes, Omaha
- 36:54Speaker 6: does have a Democrat advantage, but you know, people think, oh,
- 36:57Speaker 6: we're safely read. You know, a generation ago, we had
- 37:01Speaker 6: both US Senators, Jim Xon and Bob Carey were Democrats.
- 37:06Speaker 6: One out of three Congressmen Peter Hogland were Democrats. We're
- 37:09Speaker 6: out of six constitutional officers, governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer, and
- 37:13Speaker 6: auditor were all Democrats. So you know, they had a
- 37:17Speaker 6: pretty strong hold. We could lose that just as easily.
- 37:20Speaker 1: You are so right, And this is the point that
- 37:23Speaker 1: I think we all need to keep in mind right now.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It doesn't mean that Nebraska is automatically going to vote
- 37:30Speaker 1: read every time. If they are if they are fed up,
- 37:35Speaker 1: if they are apathetic and they don't vote, anything can happen,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you know, And I will go back. It happened to me.
- 37:44Speaker 1: And you know Don Bacon, he ran for Congress five
- 37:48Speaker 1: times ten years, and every time he won in that
- 37:52Speaker 1: second congressional district it was by one or two percentage
- 37:56Speaker 1: points are less. I mean, that does not mean that
- 38:00Speaker 1: we will hold on to these red cities or the
- 38:04Speaker 1: red state. It doesn't mean it at all. And if
- 38:06Speaker 1: the Democrats are as activated as they are now and
- 38:11Speaker 1: is excited about what they are doing as they are now,
- 38:15Speaker 1: and all of this money is flowing in for these
- 38:18Speaker 1: candidates and the Republicans are not getting out and voting
- 38:22Speaker 1: like they used to, anything can happen. You're absolutely right,
- 38:27Speaker 1: and we have to keep that in mind. And we
- 38:29Speaker 1: have to really keep in mind what you're hearing on
- 38:31Speaker 1: the radio, on the TV, reading in the newspaper, what
- 38:35Speaker 1: is the truth and what is not. I really love
- 38:37Speaker 1: town halls and I love forums, even though they have
- 38:40Speaker 1: been wild lately with some of the candidates. I think
- 38:44Speaker 1: it's I wish people would just come and ask questions
- 38:47Speaker 1: and get answers instead of sitting there screaming at each other.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Because that's why people come there is to try to
- 38:52Speaker 1: ask questions. But I think those are a good forum
- 38:55Speaker 1: to have those candidates there and ask them the questions
- 38:58Speaker 1: you want to ask them.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Okay, there we go, and we'll get into this maybe
- 39:03Speaker 5: a little bit more tomorrow among some other topics.
- 39:05Speaker 1: But we have so much to talk about. I wanted
- 39:07Speaker 1: to get back and talk about the city budget, and
- 39:08Speaker 1: I want to talk about taxes. But one thing I
- 39:11Speaker 1: want to tell you is I have been. I went.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I was going Thursday, Friday and Monday. I went to
- 39:15Speaker 1: Cincinnati to see my son Andrew, his wife Elena, and
- 39:19Speaker 1: I have two little grandsons there. Calvin is eight and
- 39:21Speaker 1: Theo is five, and we had a great time. By
- 39:25Speaker 1: the way, well, I got to tell you one place
- 39:26Speaker 1: we went in Cincinnati, they dug down about four or
- 39:31Speaker 1: five stories down many many many years ago to create
- 39:34Speaker 1: a subway system, which they never opened. So there's all
- 39:37Speaker 1: of these tunnels all over Cincinnati and there's about twenty
- 39:41Speaker 1: five different speakeasies underground.
- 39:45Speaker 6: Wow.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just like you have. It's almost like you
- 39:47Speaker 1: got to give the password. So we went to one
- 39:50Speaker 1: in downtown Cincinnati called ghost Baby, and you go in.
- 39:53Speaker 1: There's a bouncer out front. It was big tea with
- 39:56Speaker 1: al then I know, and I just told of my
- 39:59Speaker 1: new Peyton and they let me in.
- 40:00Speaker 2: That's what I thought.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And then you go down four stories underground and there's
- 40:06Speaker 1: this really neat bar and restaurant and a big jazz
- 40:09Speaker 1: a room with the playing live jazz and stuff. It's
- 40:11Speaker 1: really cool. But anyway, we go to the airport last night.
- 40:14Speaker 1: My plane is supposed to leave Cincinnati at eight thirty.
- 40:16Speaker 1: There was a big thunderstorm in Cincinnati. Of course, it
- 40:19Speaker 1: was bright and sunny all day, but there was a thunderstorm.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Planes are delayed. We're going to come home to Omaha
- 40:24Speaker 1: through midway. Chicago had three big storms come in one
- 40:29Speaker 1: after another. The Chicago airport was shut down, and we're
- 40:32Speaker 1: sitting there thinking we will never get home. So I'm
- 40:34Speaker 1: texting Peyton and Scott saying I may not make it home.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Long story short, we didn't get We didn't land until
- 40:42Speaker 1: after midnight. I think I went to bed at about
- 40:44Speaker 1: three o'clock in the morning. But I'm here, so anyway,
- 40:47Speaker 1: it was. It was a great trip. And thank goodness
- 40:50Speaker 1: for Southwest Airlines. One way or another, they will get
- 40:53Speaker 1: you here. They actually held the plane. There was fifty
- 40:56Speaker 1: people on our Cincinnati flight connecting in at midway in
- 41:01Speaker 1: Chicago to come to Omaha, and they held the plane
- 41:04Speaker 1: for us all to get on. But that is it
- 41:06Speaker 1: for us today, and thank you all for spending this
- 41:09Speaker 1: hour with us. Thanks for listening. We'd love for you
- 41:12Speaker 1: to join us again tomorrow. We have a lot to
- 41:15Speaker 1: talk about. I'm Jeene Stothard and this is eleven ten
