- 2:53sir, how are you? I am wonderful, good morning day. Thank
- 2:57you for being here with us today. Lots going on and to talk.
- 3:00Let's talk about here on this rainy Monday. Some exciting times in the City
- 3:06of Red Dragons, with Yakfests coming up this weekend. We'll get into some
- 3:10other things in Saint Aubuns, but I do want to start with the yak
- 3:13Fest happening this weekend. This is pretty much like the premiere event in the
- 3:15area there right it is. You know, this is our fifth year.
- 3:20The last two years we've approximated between eleven and twelve thousand people in Old Maine
- 3:25between Friday and Saturday. We have music playing all day, starting at four
- 3:30o'clock on Friday, starting at two o'clock on Saturday. Streets full of vendors.
- 3:37We've got food vendors, art vendors, craft vendors, drink vendors.
- 3:43There'll be kraft beers, there'll be domestic beers all kinds of food. There'll
- 3:50be outdoor vendors and you know, we started this to celebrate the Torticol and
- 3:55it's in its twentieth year and they'll probably be eighteen hundred two thousand kayakers going
- 4:00down Cold River Saturday morning. So we're excited, man, we're looking forward
- 4:05to it. Talk about the planning that goes into this. It's one of
- 4:08those events that, Okay, it wraps up, you know on what Sunday,
- 4:12Saturday, Saturday wraps up Saturday. Then on Sunday you start planning for
- 4:15next year. That's uses the way it works. But talk about the amount
- 4:16of planning that goes into this. Yeah, well, we will take a
- 4:19couple of weeks off, we get back together, we evaluate the good,
- 4:26the bad, what we can do better, and then we start meeting about
- 4:30once a month, and then as we get closer, it's twice a month,
- 4:33right, And we've got a committee. They do a fantastic job.
- 4:40And like I said, it's grown from about eight thousand people the first year
- 4:43to eleven and eleven to twelve thousand, and people come from all over.
- 4:46We have people from other states all around the state of West Virginia, and
- 4:53they just have a good time. It's it's it's a great time to listen
- 4:56to music. It's a great time to see old friends and just sit back
- 5:00and relax and enjoy yourself. And let's talk about the timeline of events.
- 5:04When do things kick off? Four o'clock Friday. We've got our lineup Friday
- 5:11night. At four o'clock we got Wee Kim Warriors on stage. Then at
- 5:15five we got Buddy Allen and the Cheap River Band. From six to eight
- 5:20we got Craig Gerty's and then eight to ten. And I had never really
- 5:26heard of her, but I've been on YouTube and I've washed your hand at
- 5:29Dasher. She's out of Nashville, does a fantastic job, a lot of
- 5:32fun, a bundle of energy. And then on Saturday we get started at
- 5:39two o'clock. Opening band is Thieves and Beggars. Three o'clock Low Jam,
- 5:45four to five Dave McCormick and his Dangerous Band. I've heard it. I've
- 5:48actually heard Dave played number of times. He's really good. They are good.
- 5:51And five to six we got Bent Whiskey. Six to eight we have
- 5:56an up and coming star, Bucky Covington. I think he was eighth on
- 6:00America's got talent on one of those shows, and he's got a couple of
- 6:04hits that I'm sure he'll be playing. And then from eight to tim we're
- 6:09closing the event out with the Davison Brothers. You can't get better than the
- 6:12Davison Brothers. Man, they're fantastic. Again. We're talking with Mayor Scott
- 6:15jamesonsont Albans on Mayor Monday, talk about the economic impact Mayor to the city.
- 6:19Well, we consider the economic impact to be mid to high six figure
- 6:29impact for us, possibly up into the seven figures. It's harder to determine
- 6:34exactly, but I know our businesses in Saint Albans have record weekends every every
- 6:40year we have yake Fest and early on some of the businesses on Old Main
- 6:46they didn't like the fact that we were closing the street down for two days,
- 6:49but they learned to keep their doors open and great things have happened for
- 6:53him. Yeah, exactly right. Five any Live It is brought to part
- 6:56of a Generations Physical Therapy seven convenient locations along Ice sixty four and they are
- 7:00hiring for both LIGHTSNSE and technically trained staff from Information to visit Generations pt dot
- 7:04com. That's a big, big impact there to have that. I mean
- 7:09that many people in town. And one of the things about Saint Albans,
- 7:12and I've talked about this in the past, Mayor with you, is I
- 7:15really like the fact that you do have these little shops in Saint Albans.
- 7:17It's a cool little place with everything that's going on there. Well, thank
- 7:20you, Dave. You know, when we took office, there are seven
- 7:25or eight empty buildings on Old Maine and we've got one now and I think
- 7:28it's going to be filled soon. But it's become a destination spot. You
- 7:31know. We've got some established business owners that have been there for a long
- 7:35time, Chandler's Colonial on Tears, a little bit of Heaven, on and
- 7:42on, and then we've got some young entrepreneurs that have taken a chance.
- 7:45The owners of the Tapu we got, of course, the cafe, we
- 7:49got, Shuckers, drummers, and these are these are places that people come
- 7:57from not just Saint Albans or can Valley, but other counties to partake in
- 8:03our businesses. And you know, I've said in the past, I know
- 8:07Becky, she's a paralegal and one of the lawyers that she does some work
- 8:11for him and his family have come to Saint Albans for the day on a
- 8:16Saturday, do some shopping, stop and get lunch and then go by a
- 8:22little bit of Heaven cupcakes, get some dessert and uh, it's it's it's
- 8:26a great event. It really, truthfully, isn't. I tell you what.
- 8:28Timing is a big aspect, Dave. I think people are tired of
- 8:33going out and fighting the South Ridges and what we have is what I call
- 8:37unique or family owned businesses, and it's not the same thing you get when
- 8:41you go to all these chains. And that's why people are coming, not
- 8:46only the Saint Albans, but other communities around West Virginia that have done the
- 8:50same thing. And it's almost like an old school type thing. And you
- 8:54know where people go to town on a Saturday, you know, and go
- 8:58and as you said, and they go. They visit these shops that you
- 9:01can't necessarily that you don't see out of the out of the strip malls or
- 9:05whatever. Mayor, I want to switch gears and we'll go back to the
- 9:07access here in a couple of moment. I want to talk about some demolition
- 9:11projects. Of course, the school there is probably the biggest one. That's
- 9:13one it gets all the attention to talk about where that is. Okay,
- 9:16they began abatement a couple of weeks ago. They finished in one area.
- 9:20So Rodney Loftus is coming in starting either late morning or early afternoon tomorrow.
- 9:26He'll let us know today exactly what time, and he's going to start tearing
- 9:31that part of the building down. Now we're super excited about this. You
- 9:35know, that's been an isore for over thirty years in Saint Alban's. We're
- 9:39getting torn down within six years of our administration. And when I say our
- 9:45administration, i'm talking about myself, but also city council who's played a major
- 9:50role in funding this. And so it's just going to be exciting. It's
- 9:56going to start bringing property values up. It brings the safety value up to
- 10:01where kids and vagrants can't get in that building once it's torn down, and
- 10:07then it'll be up to city Council what we do with the property afterwards,
- 10:11because we do own the property. Any thoughts, anything you can put out
- 10:16there yet ors just too early. Well it's a little early. There's been
- 10:18a couple of things I personally wouldn't mind selling, dividing it up, selling
- 10:22two or three lots and build single dwelling homes or condos that you buy.
- 10:28I'm not looking for rental property by any means, and start bringing property values
- 10:33back up again in the area. A park has been mentioned, so we'll
- 10:41have that discussion at city council soon, so we'll see what happens. You
- 10:46know, I'm looking for grants for pickleball courts for sure. We've got to
- 10:52get some of those that might be an area we could possibly put pickleball courts.
- 10:56So pickleballs huge. Oh it is used. Yeah, But we've several
- 11:00pieces of property that were donated to us through this demolition program. You know,
- 11:05We've got forty two structures torn down during my tenure, all right,
- 11:09and the fiscal years getting ready to start July first, so we've got a
- 11:13few more stragglers there where we'll get torn down. So it just helps the
- 11:18overall appeal of our city when people are coming to town. Any new businesses
- 11:24or any new developments going on in town to talk about. We had a
- 11:26ribbon cutting last Saturday. It's just outside of Saint Albans, but still part
- 11:31of our community. It's uh sight sounds and speed. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:37Actually what he was from my sister station ninety eight point seven to beat to
- 11:39the live broadcast on there on the Friday before that, and I stopped in
- 11:43to see what he what a man. That's a fantastic shop there it is,
- 11:46and the gentleman that owns it is a wonderful guy. So excited to
- 11:52be where he is. Yea, I talked to him. And then we
- 11:54have a ribbon cutting on a up on Old Maine Wednesday at noon, small
- 12:03gift shop type deal, and so you know, it just continues to grow,
- 12:11and that's what we had to do. We had to because we don't
- 12:16have direct interstate access and all the logistics that these chain stores want. We
- 12:22had to make Saint Alban's a place people wanted to be part of. And
- 12:26cleaning the town up was a big aspect of that. Reducing crime was a
- 12:31big aspect of that. So we continue to move forward. We got more
- 12:35work to do. I have announced that I am going to run again next
- 12:39year for a third term, and to be honest with you, if I'm
- 12:43blessed and God willing and happened to win, I'll be sixty nine when that
- 12:48turns up, so it might be time to write off into the sunset.
- 12:50Now then you can run for city council. Yeah, and be on that
- 12:54end of it for a while. Well, me and my wife might do
- 12:56some traveling. Okay, all right, all right, Mayor Scott James is
- 13:01so wrap it up by talking about yak Fest again this weekend. Where can
- 13:03people learn more about all that? Because you throw around a lot of information,
- 13:05I mean social media website where you gain yeah, Yakfest wv dot com.
- 13:11Okay, it covers all the entertainment, the schedule, uh, the
- 13:16vendors, sponsorship if anybody wants to become a sponsor. Uh, so you
- 13:22know, and that's something we couldn't do yak Fest without. Was our sponsor
- 13:28yea, and Canall County Commission is a big sponsor in COVID uh and and
- 13:33many others. But uh, I can't remember them all, list of them
- 13:35all. But but they'll be signage. I'm sure they're signage. And uh
- 13:41they're on social media posts that we have and everything else. So and so
- 13:46things start Friday afternoon, right after work. So don't even go home,
- 13:48man, just go straight there. Everything you can posit, your dinners,
- 13:50taking care of your drinks, taking care of your music, and of course
- 13:54you got several thousand people on the river too, so yes can. The
- 13:56good thing about this is, you know you got to pay the vendors,
- 14:01but you don't pay for the music, and it's free. It's free,
- 14:03free entertainment. Mayor Scott James and Saint Albus will talk soon. Man,
- 14:07thanks a lot, Thank you, Dave. Five ety live is brought too,

- 17:18Ryan Nicholson Desire Producer Today, I want to welcome to the show Jason Huppon
- 17:21from Americans for prosperity. Good morning man, how are you, hey,
- 17:22Dave, Thanks for having me on. Happy summer, but it's not I
- 17:26don't think it's officially summer yet, but it's too cold outside to see summer
- 17:29today. It was kind of nasty. I had to drive in on the
- 17:30interstate this morning, real nat But they say not to play you know,
- 17:34Tony Cavalier here, But they say that later in the in the day,
- 17:37we're supposed to test them sunshine, So that's good news. Jason. I
- 17:41was reading an op ed that you folks just put out and had to do
- 17:44with some energy policies, specifically as it pertains to Senator Joe Manson. Full
- 17:48disclosure, we still don't know what Senator Manson's gonna do next year. Is
- 17:52he gonna run for reelection to a Senate seat more than likely in that case,
- 17:57facing off against Governor Jim Justice. Is he gonna run for president or
- 18:02is he just gonna go to the House. Senator Mansion says he's not going
- 18:04to make an announcement until possibly the end of the year. Tell the folks
- 18:07what the whole basis of the editorial that you put out. Well, So,
- 18:11Dave, you remember in school when the teacher would break you up into
- 18:15different different groups in the class, and there was always that one kid without
- 18:18fail that wouldn't do the work but still expected all the credit for it.
- 18:22Well, that's pretty much what Senator Mansion. It was also me. But
- 18:26go ahead, So you say that Senator Mansion, Yeah, yeah, essentially,
- 18:29I mean, our folks on the hill tell us that he had very
- 18:32little to do with the Mountain Valley pipeline being included in the debt ceiling compromise
- 18:36between Speaker McCarthy and President Biden. But Mansion is still out here taking a
- 18:40victory lap on it. So we're just speaking truth to power a little bit.
- 18:44The fact of the matter is, for two years, Senator Mansion was
- 18:45essentially arguably one of the most powerful men in the free world because he wanted
- 18:51real permitting reform done to get these infrastructure products projects going. He would have
- 18:56done that, but he did not. So what would you have preferred to
- 19:02hit him to do differently other than I guess be more active. What would
- 19:06you like to have seen him done in the sense of Jason Well, going
- 19:07back to that particular deal that he cut with the President and they sponsored a
- 19:12bill together the Inflation Reduction Act. You know, that would have been the
- 19:15time to really step up for We're folks in West Virginia that want reliable,
- 19:19affordable energy again. And what was this landmark, you know, achievement during
- 19:26that time, The Inflation Reduction Act, which spent trillions of dollars, meant
- 19:30tens of thousands of new IRS agents, created a new tax on natural gas
- 19:36that's going to make energy more expensive. We generally think that was a pretty
- 19:38big boondoggle. That was a failure on the part of Senator Mansion. So
- 19:41what we're doing with our commentary now and our efforts on the ground, with
- 19:45our activists and staff across the state prosperity as possible. We know that Washington
- 19:51DC is broken, but it doesn't have to be. And if folks like
- 19:55Senator Mansion will stop playing politics and stop Kyle telling to the Biden minister and
- 20:00really stand up for taxpayers and stand up for citizens in West Virginia, we
- 20:04think that we can have prosperity again. Right now, we're in economic Doldrum's
- 20:08not seeing the sense of the harder administration. Inflation is still too high,
- 20:12energy prices are up. We really want to see some action out of Washington,
- 20:15DC, and so we're asking uh, senators in seven different states to
- 20:19simply do better. A Senator Mansion would would probably I'm sure he would take
- 20:23issue with that because he would say, well, I'm not the one playing
- 20:26politics here. He said, I'm the one that's I'm a dealmaker. That's
- 20:30what he would say. Well, I mean, you know, Pop Call
- 20:33and Kennell Black to some extent, Senator Mansion not playing politics is a bit
- 20:37of an irony to me, but in any extent, I think, you
- 20:41know, at the end of the day, listen, is it good that
- 20:45the Mountain Valley pipeline is going to be completed? Yes it is, and
- 20:48you know, uh, thanks to the lawmakers that did step up to the
- 20:52plate, and we're really hard to get that done, you know, Congress
- 20:55Blome, Carol Miller, Senator Sholling Moore, Capito, and obviously Speaker m
- 21:00Arthy. But again, we just want to call the balls and strikes like
- 21:03we see him, Dave, and I think that's important. You know,
- 21:06right now, Joe mentioned his poll numbers are the worst that they've been in
- 21:11his entire political career, and so naturally it would make sense that he's trying
- 21:15to score a win here and there, and we just want to hold him
- 21:17accountable and say, hey, there's a bill in Congress HR one, the
- 21:22Lower Energy Costs Act, that we think and we know based on proven policy
- 21:26principles, would lower the cost of energy, would make more affordable, reliable
- 21:32energy for folks. They had that bill in the US Senates past the House.
- 21:36Why not try to cobble together a couple of votes of moderate Democrats in
- 21:41the Senate and try to get that bill done. And I want to talk
- 21:44about the pipeline and for just small we're talking to Jason Hoppman from Americas for
- 21:47Prosperity about the pipeline at about the deal that was struck. Jason, the
- 21:51Democrats, many of them weren't happy. Not the moderates that you mentioned,
- 21:55but the you know, a little bit more far left. They weren't happy
- 21:59that the pipeline is gonna live to see another day. More right leaning Republicans
- 22:04saw it as the party caving. So overall, and you've touched on a
- 22:10little bit your thoughts on the bill and the deal that will truck. Overall,
- 22:12I mean, it's imperfect, but I think you know, had Republicans
- 22:18in Congress walked away from the deal that that Speaker McCarthy had had got for
- 22:22them, which largely, for all intents and purposes, they won on that
- 22:26deal. Had they walked away from that deal, you'd seen Chuck Schumer go
- 22:30over to President Biden's office and they would have had a clean debt ceiling increase.
- 22:34And so I think in the posture of Congress right now, as much
- 22:40of a winn as they were going to get. Remember, they got um
- 22:42some spending reductions. Obviously, we need to do more in terms of transformational
- 22:49reforms to how we fundamentally budget in this country. You know that the trillions
- 22:53and trillions of dollars of debt that we're in are unacceptable and frankly, they're
- 22:59they're taken away from our dren, children's children's future. So we've got to
- 23:03do serious work there. But with what they did on the debt ceiling compromise,
- 23:07I think Republicans called that a win. It's nine thirty five any line
- 23:11presented in part by Travis Willard. You're Edward Jones, financial advisor, just
- 23:14off the Day's Valley accent or. Now Travis Willard and the team can help
- 23:17you reach your financial goals. Is at Edward Jones dot com or called Travis
- 23:21today three oh four three nine seven fifty five fifty three three or four three
- 23:25nine seven fifty five fifty three for your Edward Jones financial Advisor, Travis Willard
- 23:29Edward Jones mover SIPC. We're talking to Jason Huffman for Americans for Prosperity Fruit
- 23:33Pharmacy. Text line says Jason Huffman for Governor. Hey, maybe one of
- 23:37these days, Dave, I don't know, somebody talk me into it.
- 23:40Uh, not exactly h in the in the cards right now, Hey,
- 23:44retirement project, get I get it. Yes, you are young. Well
- 23:48let's go back to Mansion for a moment um. What would you prefer to
- 23:52see Senator Mansion due in twenty twenty twenty four. I mean I mentioned could
- 23:56run, you know, I mean as a stand and you know it's a
- 24:00lifetime away as it stands right now. Jim Justice, you know is probably
- 24:04is probably going to be the Republican senatorial candidate, with all due respect to
- 24:07Alex Mooney. He's miles ahead of Alex Mooney in the in the polling.
- 24:11That could change, as we've seen it change in the past. So Justice
- 24:15runs against Mansion. Justice trounces Mansion in my opinion, with all due respect
- 24:21to Joe Mansion, I mean Justice wins that. And I think Joe Mansion
- 24:23probably knows this, and he knows he doesn't have a serious chance to be
- 24:26elected for president, but he's just throwing that out there. What would you
- 24:30like to see Mansion do in twenty twenty four? Well, okay, I'm
- 24:33gonna put myself in the headspace of let's say I'm a Mansion consultant right now,
- 24:37right what am I thinking when I look at this landscape? You know,
- 24:40he's got some of the lowest pole numbers that he's had in his entire
- 24:42political career. You know, there's been talk about him doing some you know,
- 24:48third party run for president, and he's continued to kind of flip flop
- 24:52on this Inflation Reduction Act, where he has essentially you know, when the
- 24:56bill passed, he said, I think President Biden for signing the bill so
- 25:00quickly. Then he said, well, you know, they're not implementing this
- 25:03the way they said they would. And then last week he resumed defending the
- 25:07bill after he had said that he would vote to repeal his own bill.
- 25:11So I'm not even sure that he knows where he's at on that issue right
- 25:14now. But what it telegraphs to us, I think is that his political
- 25:18future is uncertain. Does he pull a Jay Rockefeller and say, Okay,
- 25:22I'm going to ride off into the sunset and not end my political career on
- 25:26a loss. Maybe I think a third party run for president seems more and
- 25:30more likely, just based on the strength that Governor Justice has right now,
- 25:37with the head winds that he's got behind him. So we'll see. I
- 25:41don't know. I don't have a preference. We deal with the punchers as
- 25:45they land, basically, and so we'll keep working toward good policy regardless of
- 25:48who's in that seat. A little off topic here, and I have to
- 25:52ask you, and again I'm not asking for an endorsement or anything like that,
- 25:55because I know that you're somebody that follows politics closely in addition to your
- 25:57job. You'd follow politics closely if you you know, if you worked at
- 26:00Kroger. I mean, I just think it's who you are. What do
- 26:04you make of all these Republicans run for governor? I mean, you know,
- 26:07again, I'm not asking for you to endorse anyone anything like that,
- 26:10but I mean you got Attorney General Patrick Morrisy, Secretary of State Mac warn
- 26:14Or, auto dealer Chris Miller, auditor JB. Mccusky, delicate more capital.
- 26:18What exactly do you make of all these people that have thrown their hand
- 26:21in the ring to run for governor. Well, I think it's a it's
- 26:23a good commentary on where West Virginia is politically. I mean, it used
- 26:26to be the case that you couldn't get a Republican to run for office and
- 26:30a fear of losing um, you know, back in the early for the
- 26:33early teens. So I think Republicans in the state have come a long way
- 26:37in terms of just how competitive their primaries are. I mean, it's it's
- 26:41healthy to have a competitive primary system. It keeps folks accountable. It gives
- 26:47voters, you know, a lot of transparency and options and the ability to
- 26:51hold folks accountable. Uh. And I think, you know, when it
- 26:55comes to the gubernatorial race, obviously, Patrick Morrissey is the front runner there.
- 27:00He's somebody that has done a very good job as a trained general.
- 27:04He has done a great job in terms of getting out there and talking to
- 27:07voters and talking to citizens about the work that he's done as attorney general.
- 27:12You know, several of the folks that are that are in that field.
- 27:15Though, it's going to be competitive. I think it's gonna be one to
- 27:18watch, and hopefully, as we continue to see competitive primaries in the state,
- 27:25you see a benefit to that because what we're going to see, hopefully
- 27:27is better policy outcomes. It's amazing to me, and I brought this up
- 27:32time and time again Jason on the show, how far the Republicans have gone
- 27:36in West Virginia. I mean, let's turn back to the clock, and
- 27:37we don't I mean, we don't have to go back to the nineteen sixties.
- 27:40Let's go back to you know, ten, fifteen, twenty years or
- 27:42so. Go how far. I mean, we wouldn't even we wouldn't have
- 27:45even thought in our wildest dreams of having this conversation about that many people running
- 27:51for governor, you know, fifteen years ago. Yeah, And you know,
- 27:53I think it's striking. We're the state of voted for du Caucus,
- 27:57remember, and we've been in a demographic winter for quite some time. So
- 28:02these are the same voters by and large that are making these decisions. And
- 28:06I think obviously it speaks to that the Democratic Party has just thrown so far
- 28:11away from from their roots and I think where people are at in the state.
- 28:15So that's that's why you've seen voter registration roles changed so much in West
- 28:19Virginia. Independents are on the rise, Republicans on the rise, Democrats at
- 28:23the lowest registration rate that they've been going down. Yeah. Yeah, So
- 28:29I think it's very telling though, especially as you continue to see lawmakers in
- 28:33state House in here in Charleston just really transformational reforms left and right. You
- 28:40see the largest tax cut in the state history that the lawmakers just got done.
- 28:45We've become a leader when it comes to educational freedom now that we've passed
- 28:48the first universal education savings account program in the country, and now you know
- 28:52eight or ten other states have essentially copied our homework and done the same thing.
- 28:56It's nice to be a leader on some of these freedom issues. Tech
- 29:00says, you know who did nothing for the Mountain Valley pipeline. Alex Mooney,
- 29:04Well, that's uh, that's potentially possible. I don't actually know the
- 29:10answer. I don't actually know talk about the group, and you know,
- 29:14you've been a regular on the show in the past, But for those who
- 29:17may have not heard you before talk about the whole movement in Americans for prosperity.
- 29:21What's it all about. Well, so we believe that, you know,
- 29:25freedom and opportunity equal prosperity. What we want to do is create the
- 29:29conditions for that through policy reforms, through good ideas that are common sense,
- 29:34partnering with lawmakers to accomplish those, but largely we're a platform for people to
- 29:40come together and make sure their voices are heard. We want to re energize
- 29:45people to put their their voices into the policy making process. You know,
- 29:48we just published our scorecard that you can find a WV scorecard dot com.
- 29:55And basically what that does is print out the role calls of the most important
- 29:57bills from each session, so folks know where the lawmakers stood on the issues.
- 30:02And it wasn't that long ago that we didn't actually have access to how
- 30:06lawmakers voted. And so we want to be a platform for accountability, transparency
- 30:10and government and just getting things done common sense ideas and making sure people's voices
- 30:15are heard. Said that lawmakers know, Hey, the people were with us
- 30:18on this issue. Let's let's get it done for them. What does this
- 30:22year look like for Americans for prosperity, because I mean, you know,
- 30:25in the year of the perpetual campaign or the era I should say, you
- 30:30know, we saw all these people announcing runs as I said, for governors,
- 30:33Senate, you know whatever, you know, law, secretary of state,
- 30:36these other offices law much earlier than what they used to. Well,
- 30:40what does a year like this look for for you folks? So what takes
- 30:44up your time right now at preparing for twenty twenty four? Well, right
- 30:48now, we're doing what we always do, which is getting out there and
- 30:49going door to door and talking to citizens about the issues to matter most of
- 30:52them, just having those important conversations with people to keep them in the loop
- 30:57on on the policy discussion. And um, you know, I think we've
- 31:00we've knocked you know, ten or twelve or fifteen thousand doors, So I
- 31:06haven't looked today though. You know, we've got staff all over across the
- 31:07state and activists all across the state, and so, um, we are
- 31:11really just doubling down on having those meaningful conversations with folks. And again,
- 31:17uh, people don't understand how much power they have when it comes to the
- 31:21policy making process. You know, if you make five phone calls to your
- 31:25congressional office, if you're you're a member in Congress, they'll begin casework on
- 31:29that UM. So you extrapolate that down to the state house level, it's
- 31:33exponentially fewer calls. And you know, people are paying attention to lawmakers want
- 31:37to hear from their constituents, and so we're we're endeavoring to make sure that
- 31:42they that they do here for from them, particularly right now thanking them for
- 31:47again the largest tax cut in state history, which is a monumental achievement that
- 31:49I think people in West Virginia are are very excited about. Jason opening for

- 37:37hospital, and it was announced last week that a special prosecutor has been named
- 37:43moving forward. It's Logan County Prosecutor David Wandley. But again, there is
- 37:46nothing at all to report at this particular time. I do know that several
- 37:52media outlets, including this one, have filed what we call foyas or freedom
- 37:55of information, trying to get footage, reports, documents, so on,
- 38:04and so far anything related to the case, and so far nothing. We
- 38:07will keep you posted on that as information becomes available, if and when it
- 38:14becomes available. So the Trump indictment forty nine pages in all, how does
- 38:22the indictment affect the Trump campaign? Well, the answer is not much in
- 38:29fact, as I said on Friday, unless Trump is in jail. Come
- 38:32late twenty twenty four, he'll be facing Joe Biden for president, despite the
- 38:37fact that the majority of Americans don't want either one of them running for president.
- 38:40That's where we are. It will be unless he's in jail at that
- 38:44time. It will be Biden Trump Part two come fall twenty twenty four.
- 38:51And I got the TV on here in the studio. Just saw a headline
- 38:53a minute ago that came across one of the news channels here that said that
- 38:57Trump is vowing that he is going to keeping the race no matter what.
- 39:04Polling released over the weekend from ABC News has Trump leading Florida Governor Rod de
- 39:10Santis by thirty percentage points. And it's just going up with all this,
- 39:19it's going up. And think about that what this has done. It's basically
- 39:27just energized the base of Donald Trump, and it's going to continue to do
- 39:30that. Indict throw out whatever you want to throw out. It's only helping
- 39:37Donald Trump because the majority of his hardcore base. He said it himself,
- 39:44and I forget the exact quote he said, but in the twenty sixteen campaign
- 39:47he said something to the effect of and I'm very much paraphrase and I could
- 39:51kill somebody in downtown New York City and they wouldn't care. And he's absolutely
- 39:55right because they don't care. It is interesting enough to me, though,
- 40:00that President Biden has had no comment whatsoever about the Trump indictment, which,
- 40:06when you think about it, though, is understandable. I mean, he
- 40:08really can't because it would be seen as trying whether he was really trying to
- 40:16or not, it would be seen as possibly impacting the case. So imagine
- 40:22this. And I'm not a legal expert by any stretch of the imagination,
- 40:25but imagine this twenty twenty four. As I said, Trump is going to
- 40:30be the nominee. There was a time when I didn't think he was going
- 40:34to be the nominee. But you know, the more that comes out,
- 40:37and we haven't even got to Georgia yet, all this stuff with Trump now
- 40:42is just based on the documents in Florida. You know, the New York
- 40:45thing was not a big deal. I mean it was a big deal to
- 40:49the people involved, but in the big picture of things, not a big
- 40:51deal. Even people that were anti Donald Trump said, this is not the
- 40:53hill we want to die on. George is going to be the big deal.
- 40:57And now Florida. But so we've not even got into Georgia yet.
- 41:01But it doesn't matter because it's just again just continuing to energize the base.
- 41:10Now, Trump is due in the Miami courtroom tomorrow and that he plans to
- 41:15speak about the indictment again tomorrow night. This appearance will be pretty much like
- 41:22the last one in New York. He'll show up tomorrow in court. They're
- 41:25saying I was doing some reading on this morning. They were saying that he
- 41:29could be fingerprinted and things of that nature. But they're not going to keep
- 41:31him there obviously. And so when he's done, he makes his appearance in
- 41:35the Miami courtroom, he hops on a plane and he goes back home,
- 41:39back North. And it's looking like that a former Trump attorney is going to
- 41:45be the star of witness against him, that being Evan Corkoran. Trump's former
- 41:52attorney Bill Barr, made several media appearances over the weekend and said, quote,
- 41:57Trump is toast. Now we're not talking about the cool Rod Blackstone kind
- 42:02of toast. I mean that he's done and that again quoting Bill Barr,
- 42:07He's not a victim here. He was totally wrong, even if half of
- 42:12it is true, he's toast. That's according it's quotes from from Bill Barr
- 42:15several media outlets over the weekend. Bars said that any idea that this is
- 42:20a political witch hunt is ridiculous. Trump of courts, accused of story classified
- 42:27documents at cardboard boxes. We've all seen the pictures over the weekend on television,
- 42:30social media, whatnot in a ballroom and a bathroom and a shower off
- 42:35of space, storage room, so on and so forth. And on the
- 42:38morning talk shows yesterday morning and throughout the weekend, not just morning shows,
- 42:44everyone from Jim Jordan to Lindsey Graham playing what aboutism, not really addressing the
- 42:52Trump situation much at all. Did you see that it's changed between Lindsey Graham
- 42:54and George Stephanopoulos on this week yesterday, Man, they went at it.
- 43:00I mean they really, they really went at him. But in Jordan and
- 43:05these others instead of talking about the Trump situation, instead talked about Hillary Clinton
- 43:09and of course President Biden, and hunters, laptop and so on and so
- 43:14forth. A great number of Republicans here in West Virginia, and I mentioned
- 43:20this on Friday, release statements late Thursday into Friday about the Trump indictment,
- 43:23including Attorney general in gubernatorial candidate Patrick Morris So Governor Justice, Congressman Alex Mooney,
- 43:29Congressman or Carol Miller just name a few. Quick note here Congressman and
- 43:36US send to Canada. Alex Mooney will be addressing the Trump indictment with Hoppy
- 43:40today, as will State Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin. Pushkin, by the
- 43:45way, it's going to be on this show tomorrow. Always a lively time
- 43:50when we have mister Pushkin in the House. So be on Hoppy today,
- 43:52then he'll be on this show tomorrow. I mean, I've got a couple
- 43:55of texture before you go to break Texas. The indictment doesn't help the general
- 43:59election. The disgrace Trump is a major loser, lost the House, Senate,
- 44:02White House, and precluded the Red Wave in twenty twenty two. Face
- 44:07it, your guy sucks. According to a text, okay, yeah,
- 44:14and I said something wrong here, and I appreciate a texture. I referred
- 44:16to Bill bars Trump's attorney. He was Attorney general, not Trump's attorney.
- 44:20That's my fault. I don't know why I said that. I knew that,
- 44:22but I appreciate the texture pointing that out to me. He was not
- 44:25Trump's attorney. He was the ag eight minutes away from ten. Five eighty

- 47:31Texture, says Dave. This is not they're what a baodism? So
- 47:37it could people's view in that term news slash. Asking legitimate questions about the
- 47:39different responses to an issue of a Republican in sea of a democrat is not
- 47:44what a baodism. It is about not showing consistency and condemnation outrages and consequences.
- 47:50I cannot stand hypocrites according to a texture. I understand texture what you're
- 47:54saying there, but it is regardless of how you feel. It is what
- 47:59aboudism when and I'm not a big fan of that term either, even though
- 48:02I've used it a lot. It is what about is when you say,
- 48:07Okay, this is a but what about b? It is what about it
- 48:10is and regardless of the parties involved in parties, I mean no pun intended
- 48:15on that. In a Puttenham County courtroom today, the trial against restaurant owner
- 48:22Osha Sesi begins today. Now he's the owner of Fairways in Tay's Valley.
- 48:27Just before the show this morning, I talked to someone who was actually in
- 48:30the courtroom and they said it was packed. He's charged with sexual assault,
- 48:36abduction and unlawful restraints. Those charges came out in March. He is maintaining
- 48:42his innocence and has pled not guilty. The allegations go back to March twenty
- 48:45twenty two. Is bond will sat at one hundred thousand dollars which he posted
- 48:49and was ordered to turn in his passport. It's really a bizarre story from
- 48:53the owner of one of the most popular restaurants in the Canall Valley. Of
- 49:00course, are following the trial and we will have the latest. Who was
- 49:02available on air in a WV Metronews dot com at WCHS networked in the dot
- 49:07com as well. Mike Nolting has an interesting story posted now at WV metronews
- 49:13dot com and it has to do with Morgantown but you can substitute Charleston in
- 49:19the storyline and some other cities as well. A lot of similarities. A
- 49:22property owner in Morgantown, a general named Lucian Lewen, addressed Morgantown City Council
- 49:28about safety issues within his city, and he talked about large crowds gathering and
- 49:34loitering about town. Sound familiar. Lewin said, the downtown issues again we're
- 49:39talking about Morgantown, are preventing him for bringing new business to the area.
- 49:45And he talked about losing a potential coffee house that wanted to open up in
- 49:49Morgantown but they were scared off by the people sleeping in doorways, loitering,
- 49:54public drinking, etc. Again, it's unfamiliar. A lot of similarities between
- 50:00Morgantown and what we see in downtown Charleston every day. And I've said it
- 50:05on the show since I started doing the show three years ago, and again
- 50:07I'm talking Charleston now. I have no idea what the answer is. I
- 50:15mean, the city officials know about it, they see it daily, and
- 50:16I'm sure they don't like it either. I've had them on the show and
- 50:19they've talked about it. I had a little extra time early Friday afternoon before
- 50:23I was set to head out of town for an appointment. So I just
- 50:27kind of drove around Charleston a little bit, you know, twelve one o'clock
- 50:30or so on Friday afternoon, and what I saw wasn't good. There were
- 50:37a lot of kids going into Clay Center, and about seventy five yards away
- 50:40there were a bunch of let's say, less than Chamber of commerce looking folks,
- 50:46open containers, grown men, ridey little girls, bikes, etc.
- 50:51And I hate to be negative, but it's not a good look at all
- 50:53for the city, a city that has so much going for it. So
- 50:59what is the answer? Sadly, you know, I don't know, because
- 51:00there are so many legal ramifications of trying to clean it up. I mean,
- 51:04you can't tell people who don't have a home that they can't be on
- 51:07the streets. I know some cities are good, be Morgantown to look at
- 51:12panhandling ordinances, but a lot of times you get in the First Amendment issues
- 51:15there. And I'm not making the head up. By the way, panhandling
- 51:19ordinances have been struck down on the basis of free speech across America. The
- 51:23jails are overcrowded, and I'm not sure you can arrest your way out of
- 51:28this problem anyway. There are laws on the books against vagrancy, but it's
- 51:31very hard to enforce them, and I hate to bring up problems I don't
- 51:35have solutions for. That certainly is the case here. I'll say this and
- 51:40i'll close this. Some of these people, though, some of these folks
- 51:44downtown Charleston, morgantowns of these cities are going to happen upon the wrong person
- 51:46and it's not going to be pretty. And I'm not advocating vigilantism and who's
- 51:51French in the imagination, but it is what it is, all Right,
- 51:53we gotta go. Thank you too. Mayor Scott James is saying all the
- 51:57Jackfests, of course going on this weekend, and I think we're talking about
