Latest / The Treehouse Show Podcast / Episode 69: Goodbye Joel, Hello Katt Williams
Transcript
- 0:24Welcome inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Maley along with Trey Trenholm and Raj Sharma.
- 0:33This is normally the portion of the show at the beginning where we intro
- 0:36things and say it's time to leave your worries outside and join us here in
- 0:41the treehouse. And you can still do that, but sometimes things happen in
- 0:46our lives that we'll kind of bleed into the treehouse some and that's okay,
- 0:52that's part of life. And what I'm talking about is we were supposed to
- 0:57record this episode yesterday, but life took a bit of a turn because we
- 1:06had to put down our boy Joel yesterday. And actually I need to amend
- 1:12that we got to h yeah, because I know people, and I've had
- 1:19this experience in my life before where you didn't have the opportunity to be there,
- 1:25you know, at the end. So while we're sad, we're also
- 1:30really grateful. And I also need you guys to help distract me at this
- 1:40point. Thank Kat Williams for going off the crazy train talking about that,
- 1:46because man, you talk about a great distraction, something to get you thinking
- 1:49about something else. It ever hurts go, It never hurts to go with
- 1:55not only stupid, but crazy crazy. You can really fill your brain very
- 2:00very quickly, right, Trey, Oh yeah, yeah, it lives rent
- 2:05free in mine. So we'll get to the Kat Williams going Scorched Earth on
- 2:20Shannon Sharp's show in just a little bit. But fourteen years we had Joel.
- 2:32Terry got to meet him first. I met him a little while after
- 2:37that. She met him at a at a now defunct Rescued Group adoption event.
- 2:45So we got Joel. They suspected that he was like one and a
- 2:49half maybe two years old when Tara first met him, and we had him
- 2:53for fourteen years, So that means that dude kicked it for sixteen years on
- 3:00this planet. Yeah. And what was truly amazing to me and Tara was
- 3:09the last two weeks we weren't home, all of our animals were. We're
- 3:15here at our house on Saint John while we were doing a Christmas you know,
- 3:20vacation, right. We went to Seattle. We went to Levenworth,
- 3:23Washington, which is the crazy Christmas town and the middle of the Cascades,
- 3:29and then back to Seattle and then flying forever to get back here. And
- 3:38we flew back. We got here on the morning of the third, or
- 3:43actually, sorry, afternoon of the third, So we hadn't even been home
- 3:47for two full days when we recognized that something was wrong with Joel, because
- 3:53before we left we had taken him to the vet get him checked out because
- 3:59he had a new lump, which is not new for him because he's had
- 4:01lots of lumps. It's kind of like Trey. Do you remember what doctor
- 4:05Fettner said the uh so weird to say that the show used to have a
- 4:09show proctologist, but we did. Doctor Fettner used to say that he lived
- 4:15long enough. What's that trait? Technically he was a urologist. Oh he
- 4:20was. I forgot he did the front stuff because I only saw him doing
- 4:23the back end. Yeah. I mean he didn't mind sticking your finger,
- 4:27his finger up there. But when you guys saw this, oh no,
- 4:31some of us experienced it first finger lying on a m Luckily I was always
- 4:38young enough to where uh he didn't get access to me. And then he
- 4:42retired. So I think he retired thinking like I never got in on Dan.
- 4:46But he had said years ago that as a man, if you live
- 4:51long enough, you will eventually get prostate cancer. I don't know if that's
- 4:56true or not. But he was a doctor, and I was just kind
- 4:58of deferring to him. So absolutely true and so mm hmm, and I
- 5:03think that's and that might it might be the case if you you know,
- 5:06if you live long enough, something, something's obviously going to get you in
- 5:10the end. And as a human, it might be cancer, it might
- 5:12be he just died just because you're old. Whatever. But Joel, because
- 5:15of his age, he had all these lumps on him and whatever. He'd
- 5:18get ano and Tara would find it and we'd take him to the vet and
- 5:20then uh, inevitably they'd come back and say, it's fine, it's just
- 5:25one of those what is it called the leppoma. Yeah, it's it's just
- 5:29it's just a fatty nodule. And uh, luckily his weren't terrible. I've
- 5:33seen them where they were like on dogs, are like dragging around on the
- 5:36floor. Nothing like that on him. But we'd always get him checked out.
- 5:40We had him checked out before we left because Tara found one doctor's like,
- 5:43he's good, he's in great shape. Everything sounds wonderful. And that
- 5:46was like a week or so before we went out of town. But as
- 5:50soon as we got back, we noticed that something was different about him.
- 5:55He was moving much slower than he already was. I mean, like I
- 5:58said, he was sixteen years old, so it's not like he was running
- 6:00around like the flash and he hadn't in years. But he was still mobile.
- 6:05He's still moving around, just a little bit slow. Oh we got
- 6:10back, he was ultra slow. Okay, yeah, And the pet sitters
- 6:16that we had helping us, we're giving us updates on the pets the whole
- 6:21time, which is great. And then they had told us at one point
- 6:26that he was having some potty issues, like okay, that's a bit of
- 6:28a red flag. And that continued when we got back, so we made
- 6:33an appointment at the vet. Tara also noticed that out of nowhere, he
- 6:39had a second chin, so a new lump had sprung up in just the
- 6:44two weeks. We were gone, oh wow, So we take Jold of
- 6:47the vet. And we also noticed that when a dog lies down, Trey,
- 6:53I mean you both have dogs, you know, like they'll put those
- 6:55front legs down and then he just kind of just go down right onto the
- 6:58floor. When he was doing it, it was taking him about about ten
- 7:02to twelve seconds to actually go from the starting position and actually making it all
- 7:06the way down part of that ultra slow thing. So the vet said,
- 7:12yeah, he's super uncomfortable. The stomach issue is an issue, but the
- 7:18bigger issue is that she was pretty sure that she found lymphoma, and the
- 7:26thinking is that it was probably pretty aggressive considering how this new lump felt like
- 7:31lymphoma. Plus his limp nodes were swollen and positions where they're not supposed to
- 7:35be to where you know, he wouldn't have had much longer. So I
- 7:42say all that to say we you know, of course we're tears and were
- 7:48sad, but we're also grateful because, like I was saying before, some
- 7:53people don't ever get that opportunity like we had that with one of our previous
- 8:01dogs, Daphne. She went in for trade knows this. She was tiny,
- 8:05not as tiny as Trey's Daisy, but pretty tiny. She was like
- 8:09four and a half pounds and she went in for dental surgery and she never
- 8:13woke up, so we didn't We didn't get the chance to say goodbye.
- 8:18You know, other people have traumatic things to happen on their pets and they
- 8:20don't have a chance to say goodbye. It's just something that happens. So,
- 8:22uh, while we were sad and still are, we're also happy that
- 8:28we got to have that for him and with him. Yeah, because man,
- 8:35he went out on a full belly. They brought him. Oh man,
- 8:39the only thing missing was like a cheese burger. But they, when
- 8:46we had talked to the doctor, made the decision and Okay, this is
- 8:48what we all think needs to happen. So they brought a blanket in and
- 8:52lay on it, and then they brought in all the treats and then uh,
- 8:56doctor Murria which a quick thank you to canine cats and critters on Saint
- 9:01John. So doctor Maria is like, no, no, no, we
- 9:03got better treats than that. So she goes and gets it eat better treats.
- 9:07I just feel bad for the dogs that they have and they're in boarding.
- 9:09We're back, you know, in the cages waiting for surgery. Like
- 9:13where you going with the good stuff? Like I'm assuming she's trolling it off
- 9:16the top shelf or they're going what do I have to do? You don't
- 9:22want to know, just walking by a bunch of dogs that can't eat before
- 9:28surgery, right, Yeah, it's yeah, you know, Sparky, you
- 9:33don't want to know what has to happen to get those treats. So and
- 9:39then she also game like this like super awesome canned food, and and he
- 9:45went to sleep and are you and that's it? Yeah, it was.
- 9:50It was a great dog. I was. I was fortunate enough. I
- 9:54got to meet him right after y'all had gotten him. That was when you
- 9:56were in that apartment over in Addison. We would watch the Bachelorrette our Bachelor.
- 10:03Yeah, yeah, so we Tara first met him and we were looking
- 10:09at photos yesterday while drinking for obvious reasons. And she first met him in
- 10:16September of two thousand and nine at the adoption event for this rescue group that's
- 10:20now gone away, and we brought him home in February of twenty ten.
- 10:28So I mean he lived. He lived a hell of a life. He,
- 10:33like I told Tara's like, he was an adventurer, maybe a reluctant
- 10:37one at times because it was sometimes us dragged in places, but you know,
- 10:41he got to live a life that I think only most dogs could dream
- 10:45of because he came to us and the situation he was in with that rescue
- 10:50group was not very good, but then he got to blossom in our home
- 10:54and kind of became you know, Tara's helper slash protector as anytime another dog
- 11:01would walk by, he had to yell at it and say you stay over
- 11:03there. Yeah, people, he was fine. He also hated squirrels,
- 11:07but I think that's universal. Yeah, but uh yeah, he lived in
- 11:13uh Lakewood, lower Greenville area. He got to live in Uptown when it
- 11:18was good, he got to live in Addison. He had to live in
- 11:24Irving, Las Colitas. You know, So the nice part, not the
- 11:30MacArthur side. I was gonna say, you know, life has ups and
- 11:33downs. It does, it does. And the good thing is his life
- 11:37was mostly on an upward trajectory. And then eventually, you know, he
- 11:45was he was so resilient that he made the move with us to Saint Thomas.
- 11:50Yeah, and what he had to endure for that because we throw ourselves,
- 11:56our stuff and our and our animals all in all in my jeep and
- 12:01we drove from Dallas to Miami, and then Joel took a separate flight from
- 12:07Miami to Saint Thomas via Puerto Rico because a hurricane decided to get in the
- 12:13way, and then eventually made the move here to Saint John near the end
- 12:20of last year. So it's it really is a cool thing to think that.
- 12:24You know, at one point in his life he was a city dog.
- 12:26Then he at one point he was living with us in our trailer next
- 12:31to Lake Louisville and Frisco, and then eventually he got to go to the
- 12:35beach and poop on it. Yeah, that's why I moved to California.
- 12:43I don't think that's special though. Isn't that sort of a normal thing at
- 12:46Venice Beach? I mean they they frown on it when they want to do
- 12:50it. Well, I'm sure they frowned as they want to do it.
- 12:54But there no one's stopping you. No, I mean, there's too many
- 12:56crazy there's a there's always the great the lady who has the wedding dress that's
- 13:01made out of trash. She kind of distracts them. Oh well you can
- 13:05while you poop. Hell. Now, there is a budding industry in San
- 13:11Francisco where there are people that are charging money to take you on tours through
- 13:16the homeless and and you know, watch the homeless and in their natural habitat
- 13:20and defecating on the streets and doing all these things. Twenty bucks by not
- 13:24bad? Why are you paying a guide for that? I've been to San
- 13:28Franciso. You just walk around, you'll find it. Yeah, just go
- 13:31to the Tenderlone. You're good. I'm guessing that they offer they feel like
- 13:35like some security with it. So it's like it's an urban safari, like
- 13:41photo safari, looking at all the different people and go oh okay. But
- 13:45I'm wondering if you're paying twenty bucks for this urban homeless safari, does that
- 13:48also include the bucket of feed hilarious? I get to say whatever I want

- 16:06And speaking of funny things happening, cat Williams, Oh boy, what
- 16:11the hell? I mean? What the hell? Why? Uh? This
- 16:18was was was? What was? What was the catalyst? For him to
- 16:22go off in the way that he did in this interview, And a separate
- 16:29question would be why Shannon Sharp and also why do Shannon Sharp call his showed
- 16:32the Shay Sheha Club Shaw. Okay, that's a horrible thank you, thank
- 16:37you, Daniel O'Malley. Uh, that was my before I even watched the
- 16:45interview, I was like Club Shasha, Like, okay, first of all,
- 16:48you or you're already named Shannon. Let's just let's just let's just cut
- 16:52our losses. Look, did you immediately know that Sha Sha was a nickname
- 16:56for him or something, because it took me a little while to realize.
- 16:57I thought he was like guest for some lady who was known as But then
- 17:04I realized, oh, I guess that's a nickname because Shannon Sha Sharp,
- 17:10so she is like okay, oh, I just thought it was a nickname
- 17:14for Shannon, just but the Shannon Sharp. Okay, I guess it's the
- 17:18sh s h Okay, all right, we're not even sure to answer your
- 17:23other question, why he was I I did not had never heard of Club
- 17:29Shay Sheha. But obviously it's a thing because one of the reasons that brought
- 17:34him there was he evidently is interviewed, Ricky Smiley, Cedric entertained or I
- 17:41forgot, but some of these guys he's he's been talking to. And so
- 17:45part of this is Kat Williams coming in saying, you know, I'm set
- 17:52the record straight on some of this stuff, gotcha. Yeah, Yeah,
- 17:56Because look, I mean I've I've followed comedy, you know, from my
- 18:00teenage year, like, like from when I was like eleven or twelve.
- 18:04I've followed comedy when I first started watching you know, George Carlin and Pryor
- 18:08and Eddie Murphy and honest at Sindbad If it was one of my favorites.
- 18:14Hey, one of my favorite specials. One time I watched him Allen and
- 18:18was on a Showtime special when I was like twelve or thirteen. I laughed
- 18:21so hard that it made me sick. So I love stand up comedy,
- 18:25and I'm familiar with Kat Williams, and I'm familiar with Ricky Smiley and Cedric
- 18:27the entertainer Kevin Hart obviously everyone's familiar with. Yeah, But I like most
- 18:33things, you don't realize all the drama that's happening behind the scenes because most
- 18:37most of what we see is just the jokes, we don't know all the
- 18:40drama going on behind the scenes, and well now we now we know there's
- 18:45a lot of stuff going on we didn't know about. Yeah, so he
- 18:51Okay, so he's been beefing with Kevin Hart forever, but that's been a
- 18:55so that wasn't a new thing. And then the Ricky Smiley thing was kind
- 18:59of an old then going back to I think Soul Plane, I think is
- 19:02what it was, but him going after aris drama on the set of Soul
- 19:07Plane. Yeah, you know, you can't have that many egos in one
- 19:11room and something not happen, which is why I would agree with that.
- 19:18And then so the new one with me like I didn't know about the cedric
- 19:22the entertainer thing, and I was like, I knew the joke, but
- 19:25I hadn't seen This is when back in nineteen ninety eight when Kat was Kat
- 19:29Williams was known as Cat in the Hat before he got a cease and desist
- 19:32from Disney. But he he and then I saw the preview joke and I
- 19:38was like, oh yeah, and then you put two and two together and
- 19:41like, oh yeah, that's he blatantly ripped that off. So I understand
- 19:44that thing, but everybody else like he went after everybody like. There was
- 19:51an article in Vulture and the headline nails it, Kat Williams scorches the earth
- 19:56and every comedian on it. Yeah, except for apparently he knows every comic
- 20:03in the works, and all the young comics he's a fan of, So
- 20:07to Kat, thank you. But all the older black comedians they've all stolen
- 20:17from him, gotcha. So yeah, So in this article it kind of
- 20:25encapsulates this pretty well. They say. Remember The Last Dance, the must
- 20:27watch documentary event of early twenty twenty, which Michael Jordan, reflecting on his
- 20:32final NBA Championship campaign and legacy, captivated the world by finally cutting loose on
- 20:37his former teammates, rivals, and the headlines that dogging throughout his career.
- 20:40Well, imagine if The Last Dance consisted solely of one long interview, switched
- 20:42focus from basketball to stand up comedy, and swapped out Jordan for comedy legend
- 20:47Kat Williams. On January third, the Internet was stopped in its tracks by
- 20:52precisely this, as Williams sat down for a nearly three hour interview with ESPN
- 20:56First Take correspondent Shannon Sharp on his podcas cast Club Sha Shape. And I
- 21:06even saw a joke someone had posted that said it's one of those. It's
- 21:08like Shannon Sharp basically says Kat Williams, welcome to Club Sha Shape, and
- 21:11then it just him ranting for the next three hours, just going off,
- 21:15just off the and just basically Shanon. I think there was a genuine I
- 21:19think there was a genuine moment where they discussed Shannon Sharp's kognak for about That's
- 21:26not a genuine moment, that's a plug. Yeah, He's like this is
- 21:30this is nice? Is this doesn't burn? Like Okay, thanks Cat,
- 21:33and then he just proceeds to just keep drinking it like and then you know
- 21:38he's then he then he starts and like I don't even think Shannon gets to
- 21:41ask a question for most of it. I think you didn't have to.
- 21:48It's the easiest three hour interview, and I'm like, I couldn't. I
- 21:52wish I had the time to watch all of it. I just I had
- 21:56to kind of pick and choose. But honestly, he I give him credit
- 22:02because he's it sounds funny, but he's a better interviewer than I thought.
- 22:07Because you have to be a good interview, to know, shut the f
- 22:10up and you have got gold just shut up. And and really what all
- 22:15he does is occasionally he just spurs him on a little bit, talks about
- 22:18it. Man, you're gonna get it. You're gonna get it, Like
- 22:21like three times he goes, you can get his canceled every else, and
- 22:22that just fuels him more. It is he is brilliant in this interview and
- 22:26not saying anything. Yeah, I think that right there, That right there,
- 22:30to me is one of the hallmarks of a great broadcaster. And I
- 22:34don't necessarily want to put that on him at this point because of the first
- 22:38take nonsense, which I absolutely loathe, but he did nail that tray.
- 22:44You're right, because one of the hallmarks of a great broadcaster is when to
- 22:47shut up and then just let the action happen. I don't I think you
- 22:52guys are giving Shin Sharp a little too much credit. I think what he
- 22:56was like, so let me ask you this question, Kat, and like
- 23:00he just starts and he's like, just he asked the first question, and
- 23:03that was it. If you look at Shannon Sharp's face, his face is
- 23:06like, what the f is happening? And you think do you think it
- 23:11was more accidental than intentional? Yeah, because that's his face for the next
- 23:15forty minutes. I was like, this man won't shut up. And then
- 23:21he tries to ask a question again and he's like you know what, And
- 23:23that's when you can see like I give up. Like that's when Sharp's like,
- 23:29I'm gonna keep them mouth shut because he's not gonna answer any He came
- 23:32in with a three hour plan. Look, Cat Williams came in and was
- 23:36like, this is gonna take two hours and forty six minutes, and I'm
- 23:41with, like, I'm not ready to say Shannon Sharp is Sharp is a
- 23:42great broadcaster, but it would be most people's tendency, especially when you see
- 23:48it going off the rails to try and especially most journalists, they're gonna try
- 23:52to get you back on track. Most people, most don't love the chaos
- 23:56that was gonna ensue. But he just let it happen. And yeah,
- 24:00and I'm gonna guess he had a producer in his ear going shut up just
- 24:06when he's you know, Kat gets his dates mixed up at one point for
- 24:10you know, calling such with the entertainer out saying you know, I did
- 24:12this joke then, and then he still and did it on The Kings of
- 24:15Comedy. The producer is behind, like his mike behind him, and it's
- 24:18like, you know, you said these dates, but this is when the
- 24:22joke aired, and this is when the King's of Comedy tour happened, So
- 24:25how did that? And then he had to go back and it was another
- 24:27like five minute explanation for why he got his timeline off, and I'm like,
- 24:33okay, but he is right. But here's the weird thing, and
- 24:36it's in the comedy circle. Other comics will do another comics joke when they're
- 24:40not working on the same show together because they write together, they have the
- 24:44same joke they or they both helped write that joke. If you'll hear like
- 24:48Kat Williams mentions Mark Curry multiple times in that interview where he's like, you
- 24:52know, Mark helped me punch up this joke. Mark helped me punch up
- 24:55this joke. So I wouldn't be surprised if Mark is also doing that joke
- 24:57when he's on tour. So when you hear somebody like, oh, he's
- 25:02stole my joke, I'm like wow, I mean that's got to be a
- 25:03blatant call out and then you know, again, like I said, I
- 25:07saw it, I'm like, okay, well, and my understanding was,
- 25:11well maybe back then they were friends, and it's like, okay, you
- 25:12do that joke, but it's the spaceship. That's the only thing that's different
- 25:17in the joke is he's talking about black people. Like if white people go
- 25:19to the moon and like to colonize the moon, black people are coming with
- 25:22them, And this is how they would go to the moon, is they
- 25:25would they would they would fly the space shuttle like it was the seventy two
- 25:27cutlass. That's the joke, And if you look at Cat's joke, it's
- 25:32the kind of the same thing. It's like just having a convertible Cadillac that
- 25:36cuts out on you and you still keep pimping while you're while you're popping the
- 25:40clutch. So it's not exact, but it's similar enough where yeah, it's
- 25:44it's yeah. So all the text of thing is, oh, so I
- 25:47was gonna say that. There's also a thing in comedy called parallel thought where
- 25:51you can oh yeah. That is a very common thing and entertainment in general,
- 25:55because it happens with radio stuff and podcasting all the time as well.
- 25:57Yeah, so you can you can play if you have the if you have
- 26:02the bit, or just play any of the interview. But yeah, so
- 26:03there is probably thought so no, no, no, I don't know if
- 26:07you had that thing like, but there is parallel thought, so you can
- 26:10see like how you go, Okay, well maybe they thought of it,
- 26:12but it's almost too cool when you watched the two and I did not pull
- 26:15the clips because a neither one of them are great audio because they're old.
- 26:19But and especially yes, he tweaks the joke a little bit where it's different
- 26:26and you know, Rush said it's a spaceship, not an old car or
- 26:29whatever. But the delivery, the manner isn't how he does it. It
- 26:33is a he stole it from Kat Williams. You're talking about Cedric Entertainer.
- 26:37So let's let's play a couple of these clips from the interview on Club Kat
- 26:42Williams going off on on Cedric Entertainer stealing his joke and told you when you
- 26:51asked him, did you steal Cat Williams joke? He said, and don't
- 26:55line up? How it don't line up? He thought that I was just
- 26:57a no name comedian and that he could take this joke and nobody would know.
- 27:03The issue was that I had already done this particular joke on BT's Comic
- 27:10View twice. It had done so well on BT's Comic View that they had
- 27:15made it part of the commercial. So part of the commercial of make sure
- 27:18you tune in the BET was you seeing me doing this joke. So this
- 27:22is not just a random joke. This is my very best joke, and
- 27:26it's my last joke, and it's my closing joke. Okay, yeah,
- 27:33Look, I'm not a professional thief by any measure, but if I were,
- 27:37I would make sure not to steal the most obvious thing. Well,
- 27:41I mean, he is right, So there's again another rule in comedy is
- 27:47first the TV wins, So theoretically Kat won even if the said had written
- 27:53it at the same time. Cat had it on BET. Seid got it
- 27:57on Kings of Comedy, So it's who gets the most the most. So
- 28:03if you ask people that that's a that's a centric the entertainer joke, and
- 28:07a lot of people back then were accusing Cat of stealing it. And then
- 28:11when he's like the timeline that said thing was like the timeline doesn't add up.
- 28:14Well, then you look, if you want the timeline, it's nineteen
- 28:15ninety eight versus two thousand and one or two thousand and two. So he
- 28:21won. But it is very common for like Carlo Smincia is known for this.
- 28:25He would be like, let's go to let's go to a club and
- 28:27let's find something that a younger comic that doesn't get TV is doing, and
- 28:32then he would do the joke on TV and take credit for it. Wouldn't
- 28:34that I mean, wouldn't that why everyone hated Dane Cook. I think everybody
- 28:40hated Dane Cook because like the wasn't he accused of that a lot? Yes,
- 28:45he was accused of stealing. I think Luisy K's bit yeah, like
- 28:51I think it was a first album that he stole almost verbhetim to where when
- 28:56Dane's album went platinum, Luisy K sent out to thank you, So the
- 29:02message was thank you. I want to thank Dame Cook for making my album
- 29:04number one because it was all of his material. So yeah, you know,
- 29:11and people go, you have to understand, go back to Robin Williams.
- 29:12Robin Williams, everybody's this beloved character from TV, This beloved actor was
- 29:18also a notorious joke thief, to the point where he would be in his
- 29:22car outside the comedy store until it was two minutes to go on stage because
- 29:25comics inside wanted to beat him up because he would do all of their stuff,
- 29:29like everybody's trying to get ready to do the tonight show, and he
- 29:30would. Johnny loved him, so he would go on and do all this
- 29:33stuff. His manager would stand in the hallway with a checkbook and go,
- 29:37okay, well, how many jokes did you do of yours? Well he
- 29:40did five mins seventy five hundred, good, and just cut a check.
- 29:44So, I mean you have to understand. It goes back a long way.
- 29:47That's why for me, I'm on such a smaller scale. I don't
- 29:51watch anybody that goes on before me and Dan. I think you even know
- 29:53this, Like I'll sit in the green room and talk with it, like
- 29:56before somebody's up, and if the server comes in, I'm like, how
- 29:57much time to so and so have. I don't want to watch anything that
- 30:00anybody else does because I don't want to get accused of like if that's my
- 30:03bit, man, No, it can't be, because I never saw it.
- 30:06Yeah, here's here's some more of Kat Williams on Cedric the Entertainer,
- 30:11Him and Steven already apologized for me, So I gave him a pass for
- 30:15that decade, and the Stevie's talking about it is Steve Barby. Why would
- 30:22you sit here and be like I talked to I saw Cat thirty times and
- 30:26Cat didn't do as I stand before you, Shannon. I would to bust
- 30:34Cedric's stomach. There was nothing that would have kept me from one of these
- 30:41in that patch right there, Like, are you kidding me? Why would
- 30:45you downplay me like that? Why did I give you a pass if you
- 30:49were just gonna lie? Cedric sitting here telling you why he ain't a movie
- 30:53star. He already looked like a wal risk. You didn't say nothing.
- 30:56He can't even get his arms off his stomach sitting over. Wow, I'm
- 31:00not. It's a situation. We never wrote anything. Remember when Sed of
- 31:06the Entertainer starts, he's supposed to be singing, dancing and telling jokes.
- 31:10That's why he's called the entertainer. We found out he can't sing, can't
- 31:14dance, and doesn't he did four comedy specials. They're so bad, Shannon,
- 31:19they're not available on Netflix or to B. Can I say that again
- 31:23for the audience, they're so bad that they're not available on Netflix or to
- 31:29B. For the record, I don't know what is available on to B.
- 31:36I think pretty much between two BE, Between two B and Pluto,
- 31:38you can find just about anything. It is where it is where if you
- 31:42want to know where the vast of all the entertainment made that you you've never
- 31:48heard of, never seen, Yeah, it's on one of those two.
- 31:52So when you say Pluto, is that is that like a TV app?
- 31:56Or is it it's there? There's two like kind of free TV that I
- 32:00know of, but at the television because either way, no one's going to
- 32:07see it. Right, lost in space that's what the generals would be called.
- 32:14But yeah, so and Steve Harry is another one that he goes after
- 32:19some of that come on the truth. Don't need motivation. I'm just saying,
- 32:27I can't let these dudes lie. This is like Steve Harvey telling people
- 32:30he used to be homeless. That's my story, that's not his story.
- 32:35Steve Harvey wasn't never homeless. When he Mark Curry was touring with him twenty
- 32:38five years ago, he was making three thousand dollars a show in cash and
- 32:44doing five shows a week. They just tell the stories. This my thanks
- 32:49to my wife. I'm where I am. You said that about the first
- 32:52wife. You forget that, you told us it was heard. Then you
- 32:55went and married somebody else that think like a man, Like are you talking
- 33:00about they just yeah? I mean you got to give him credit, like
- 33:06he the detail that he has in his crazy mind, Like it's still,
- 33:10uh, there are people that can vouch for the fact that Steve Harvey.
- 33:14I don't know if he was homeless necessarily, but he was broke. There
- 33:17was a furniture store, a family that own family owned a furniture store,
- 33:22and they helped him out, Like they got him his first like he started
- 33:24his own cleaning business and they gave him his first opportunity to clean up apart.
- 33:29So was the blind side to rip off of Steve Harvey's story? I
- 33:34mean, well, yeah, I mean it's there's a lot of stories like
- 33:37this, like Tiffany Hattish lived in her car and things like this, Like
- 33:39there's a lot of and I don't know how much to that, you know
- 33:43there is. I was in LA for eleven years. I never saw anybody
- 33:45living in a car, I can just say that. I mean, and
- 33:47if they did, they didn't tell you, and they were sure, sure
- 33:51as hell, weren't going to go on a radio show like this and go
- 33:53I live in a car right now, Like nobody's nobody's doing that. But
- 33:59that might be the comedian that I want to see more so than the one
- 34:01that lives in a mansion. Yeah, I mean, you know, I
- 34:05mean sure, yeah, I agree the struggle. I mean, and there
- 34:08are a lot of great comics in LA that don't get the notoriety that they
- 34:13should because they aren't a household name. But he does go after Steven,
- 34:16But Steve had a very I don't know if it's a similar story, but
- 34:20I think Kat was homeless at thirteen, Like he left his house at twelve
- 34:22or thirteen and was living in Miami at one point, And so I think
- 34:29that's what the story that I don't think that's the story that Steve told.
- 34:31I think Steve was older when he became homeless. But you know who knows,
- 34:37I mean, cant. I had the opportunity a few times to meet
- 34:39him, and he's a very interesting individual. Like when in that interview that
- 34:44necklace that he's wearing that looks like a little with the steering ball on the
- 34:49on a boat, like on a ship, like a pirate ship. That's
- 34:53what he was wearing when I met One of the first times I met him,
- 34:57and I saw him at the comedy store and he was in he had
- 35:00a sailor's hat on. Every bit of jewelry that he owned was on his
- 35:04fingers and his necklace and without and all of it. And he was just
- 35:07staring at the House of Blues. And I walked on to the path and
- 35:12he's just on the patio by himself and just with a glass of cognac.
- 35:14And I walked past him and go, are you doing cat? And he
- 35:16goes, hey, man, and he's just staring. He doesn't make eye
- 35:20contact with me. Go you're good, yeah, And I was like,
- 35:23and I did what everybody else did. We went all right, and then
- 35:25just went in like nobody asks like why are you were just staring straight across
- 35:30the street. And then he had two bodyguards with him that had They weren't
- 35:34bodyguards. There were just big fat dudes that had the black shirt with a
- 35:37white security And then when he took off, he's fast not as fast as
- 35:42he said he was on the show, but he's fast. He went off
- 35:45walking and they couldn't keep up with him. We're like, what is happening
- 35:47right now? I would have imagine that him standing on that balcony at the
- 35:52House of Blues looking off into the distance. He wasn't not thinking about anything.
- 35:58I think he was plotting what he was going to say in this interview
- 36:02all those years ago. That was that was the That was the Bursieoning era
- 36:07of him going to Sports Earth on Steve Harvey, Cedric, the entertainer,
- 36:12Kevin Hart, Ricky Smiley after Ludacrous, Like, who does that? Ludicrous
- 36:17is one of the he said about Ludicrous. He said that he joined the
- 36:22Illuminati. Yeah, that's how they got They offered him a you know,
- 36:28Kat turned it down, but they basically said, you know, you'll get
- 36:30a twenty movie two hundred million dollars deal. So in this interview, Kat
- 36:37Williams alludes to or straight up says that the Illuminati is responsible for the Fast
- 36:43and Furious franchise. No, no, no, see now you're being ridiculous.
- 36:45He's saying the Illuminati is responsible for Ludacrous being a movie or making him
- 36:52famous, but they didn't. They didn't create the Fast and Furious Vehicle pardon
- 36:58the pun. Yeah, as an Illuminati project. I mean, now you're
- 37:01talking crazy. I mean he says like I'm just saying like that's how insane
- 37:12what he was saying, like if you say anything outside of that, like
- 37:14you will sound crazy. Like he's just but specifically after the only dude know
- 37:20that he could go after, was like, I guess it's because they're the
- 37:22same height. I don't know what it is, they're legitimately like five five.
- 37:25Well, I mean he's not going to say that about Paul Walker,
- 37:28saying that Paul Walker took his role. No, it's only blind people like
- 37:31to get because he became that star and he had to have sold his soul
- 37:36to the Illuminatia. Ludacris isn't talented. And then Ludacris released a disc track
- 37:42which is really good. Yeah, I was really impressed with it. It
- 37:45was fantastic. And then he calls his wife ugly like he calls Ludacris's wife,
- 37:52No, Ludacris's wife. I don't know if you've seen Ludacris's wife smoke
- 37:59show, Uh, like utter smoke show. She's gorgeous. One of the
- 38:04things that he implies in the Illuminati deal, hm, is that basically,
- 38:12if they they give you a light skinned woman to be your wife who is
- 38:17not going to go to the media and not going to talk and not do
- 38:20anything. Yeah, that just sounds like scientology. Yeah, but they give
- 38:28you. But here's the difference with the scientology gives you multiple lives. So,
- 38:31uh, the Illuminati still traditional values. That's what it is. According
- 38:44to him, the Illuminati sings both ways. Yes, you're listening to the
- 38:51Treehouse. Visit us online that Treehouse on air dot com. Let's get Daniel
- 39:00Cook from Cook DFW Roofing and Restoration into the Treehouse now. The phone number
- 39:04for your free roof inspection eight three three cook DFW. Whether you're needing an
- 39:08entire roof replaced or you're just needing some repair or wondering, hey, how's
- 39:13that roof doing, give Daniel Cook a call. Daniel was curious about this
- 39:16before. We talked about downtime. And I know you and your wife travel
- 39:20and my wife and I do as well. And we went out of town
- 39:22for the holidays and came back and we had one of those overnight flights,
- 39:27and we're trying to sleep with as much as you and your wife travel,
- 39:30Are you guys able to actually sleep on a plane or is that next to
- 39:34them? Possible sleep does occur, but usually is after sitting at the bar
- 39:39for several hours before the flight. That does help as a good prescription.
- 39:47There's a fine level there, though, So it's like, you know,
- 39:50want, I don't want to be too intoxicated that I can't walk on the
- 39:52plane and look sensible, because now they're getting where they'll throw you off the
- 39:57plane if you look a little bit too much intoxicated. Mh. You have
- 40:00to you have to know exactly where you're at at all times with your level
- 40:04of intoxication. But yeah, if you get that perfect mix of wharrior just
- 40:08on the edge of the cliff and you're not falling off, and as soon
- 40:12as you get in the plane and the engines start humming, it's like a
- 40:15perfect mix to put you to put you down for a little bit. I
- 40:19like, yeah, yeah, exactly that, to put you down for just
- 40:21a little bit. Because you're right, it is a very fine line between
- 40:24being able to fall asleep on the plane for a little bit and ending up
- 40:27on the news because you punched a flight attendant. So you just want to
- 40:30make sure, like Daniel said, you make sure you toe that line properly.
- 40:34That doesn't have a whole lot to do with roofing, but keep in
- 40:36mind it does tell you that Daniel's responsible and he knows where his line is.
- 40:39He's going to make sure everything is good with your roof and that,
- 40:44and therefore you'll be able to sleep comfortably. So give them a call for
- 40:46that free roof inspection eight three three cook d FW or the website cook DFW
- 40:51dot com. Let's get Jacqueline from Brooks Plumbing into the tree house now.
- 40:53She sent a very interesting story that we're going to discuss here, and for
- 40:58any and all of your plumbing ones needs, you need to give her a
- 41:00call to one fourth three six eight thirty eight thirty eight. So the story
- 41:04you sent me, Jaqueline right before New Year's was the Princeton Fire Department called
- 41:07out to Clark Middle School because firefighters were having to rescue construction workers who got
- 41:14pulled into a trench or a sinkhole or something when the soil gave way.
- 41:19What happened there, so they were tunneling they had created an interior slab penetration,
- 41:24so they broke through the concrete and they were excavating dirt out from underneath
- 41:29that slab penetration so that they could make plumbing repairs underneath the foundation. It
- 41:35could have they could have been making repair, they could have been doing a
- 41:37replacement. But there's actually a photo that we shared on our Facebook that I
- 41:40tagged the treehouse in where you can see this huge open hole and you can
- 41:45see all the dirt on top of the concrete. You know that's still in
- 41:49place. But ultimately what happens is is when you dig tunnels and trenches,
- 41:52specifically tunnels, if they're not dug correctly with shoring by the right people who
- 41:58have the experience, there's all always the chance that they may collapse with the
- 42:02individuals inside. And so it's and it doesn't even matter even if you shore
- 42:07it. Shoring should be one hundred percent. That there's always that outlying factor
- 42:12where something may happen. But that is one of the things that drives up
- 42:17the cost of plumbing. Be it us, my competitor's commercial residential. We
- 42:22have to take out these massive insurance policies because there is a risk of death
- 42:27when you're doing these kind of jobs, and these kind of collapses do happen
- 42:30bare minimum in the DFW at least once or twice a year. Sometimes it's
- 42:35commercial, sometimes it's residential. And these guys that get in the tunnels get
- 42:38in there every day knowing that if it's not doug correctly, there's always a
- 42:42chance something bad might happen. And I know I've said this before. This
- 42:45is why I will not put my guys in other people's tunnels. This is
- 42:49why we do it in house, because we sit at work waiting every day
- 42:53to hear when people come out of the tunnel, because it's there's always a
- 43:00chance, and that's very scary for us, especially because my excavators have worked
- 43:04with my dad, because we're a family company since I was thirteen. So
- 43:06that's uncle one, uncle Tooey. You know, these are my guys.
- 43:08It's not random excavators, it's not random subcontractors. And so there's always that
- 43:14risk, and that's part of the reason why plumbing can be so expensive,
- 43:16because you've got this massive overhead and there's a danger. It's kind of like
- 43:21underwater welders. They have a short lifetime expectancy and they're doing a dangerous job,
- 43:24and that's why they're so expensive. That's one of the things that makes
- 43:28contractors expensive is that there's always some sort of a risk involved. But shout
- 43:31out for sure to the Princeton Fire Department. I think a few others joined
- 43:36them in getting over their them. Yeah, and the prior departments are getting
- 43:39faster and faster at responding to those because the last two that I've heard of
- 43:44was the first two in a row where they got the people out alive,
- 43:47because typically they're not pulling out live people there because it's all of the weight
- 43:52of everything that collapses on you. It's not that you suffocates that your body
- 43:55cannot expand the lungs to breathe, and that's terrifying and that's not how I
- 44:00want to go. No, definitely not. And that's one of those things
- 44:02you don't necessarily think about when it comes to plumbing, because it's pretty rare
- 44:07that in your house you'll need to have someone tunneling at all. And usually
- 44:12for residential stuff, you know problems we have in our homes. It's a
- 44:15supply line issue, it's it's some sort of a hot water heater issue,
- 44:20as opposed to having to call out an excavation team. But those are things
- 44:23that do sometimes happen, and you need the best plumbers possible, and not
- 44:29only that, but the plumbers that also work with the best to make sure
- 44:31your home is safe and the actual workers are safe, which is obviously of
- 44:37the utmost important. This is why we love Jacqueline and Brooks Plumbing here in
- 44:40the Treehouse. This is also why I say, for any and all of
- 44:44your plumbing wants and needs. It's also no job too big, too small,
- 44:47whether it's a supply line or basically turning into a tunnel rat from Vietnam.
- 44:52They're going to make sure your home is protected and you're taking care of
- 44:57So give them a call two one four, three six eight thirty eight thirty
- 44:59eight or Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com. You're listening to the Treehouse, Visit

- 45:14to you by Brooks Plumbing. For any and all of your plumbing wants and

- 45:22six eight thirty eight thirty eight. Two one four, three six eight thirty
- 45:25eight thirty eight or the website Brooks Plumbing Texas dot com. I would like
- 45:32to uh thank Katwilliams for the mugs needed distraction today and uh also you guys
- 45:43want to thank you as well for the distraction. There's one thing I've I've
- 45:49learned throughout my years is that crazy can can at least alleviate sadness for it
- 45:55for a period of time. So it works exactly like I said, it's
- 46:00it's a good distraction. Now there's always something, always been something special about
- 46:05something bad was going on. We got in the treehouse and it's like,
- 46:07you know, you just kind of escape your problems for a little bit.
- 46:12What do you What do you do? What do you do when when they're
- 46:15when they're crazy and sad? Oh I think Trey calls her mom. Well
- 46:29played, Sure, well played. So that right there is actually Trey's also
- 46:37red flag. Like he loves he loves a good crazy girl. But if
- 46:40it's sad and crazy at the same time, that's too much like mama,
- 46:44and he's got to go the other direction. Yeah. Wow, Uh,
- 46:52kudos to you for being able to recognize, uh, those those those red
- 46:55flags. It's taking some time, but I find on they figured it out.
- 47:01I'd also like to point out that really, you know, only friends
- 47:05like Trey and I are for you know, over twenty years, can can
- 47:07really get away with making it a joke like that, because I'm pretty sure
- 47:12if, like, if we had just met, we were sitting at a
- 47:14bar, he'd be punching me sencils right now now. I think even if
- 47:19I just met you had been like, all right, you don't really know
- 47:21me, but that was well played, which Daniel, you know, it's
- 47:30a I feel like I'd be remiss though in all of this, because one
- 47:36of the reasons you, as we talked about like at your roast after the
- 47:40Christmas Show and everything else, is your robotic nature. And the biggest thing
- 47:47that got you kind of the I don't know, reputation for being robotic is
- 47:54your ability to get through the dog poem without crying. Oh yes, look,
- 48:00and and that is that is a good example. And while when you
- 48:04say that, I feel a twinge, I'm like, I'm not the robotic.
- 48:07I've got emotions like like like like other people do. But when it
- 48:12comes to doing you know, the dog pond that you couldn't get through or
- 48:15Russ couldn't get through or whoever you know, Dan Lush or j D whoever
- 48:17was on the show, they couldn't get through it because they just get they
- 48:20started crying. I was like, I can give it to me. I'll
- 48:22do it, gotcha. And I think in psycha psychological or psych psychiatric circles
- 48:30they call it disassociation, and I think they frown upon it, but it's
- 48:34it's worked in my favor sometimes, and it gave you a you know,
- 48:37kind of a little bit of a feeling of superiority that you know, you
- 48:44you were stronger than the rest of us, and you know you kind of
- 48:45look down a little bit at our weakness for not being able to get through
- 48:50it. I mean that's just because I mean whatever software they put into the
- 48:52cyborg that is Dania Malley uh didn't allow for. But they're updating it,
- 48:58like if you you'll see, like he'll plug into the wall every now and
- 49:00again an update and bold laugh and smile. But it's actually still loading because
- 49:06my internet here is not so good. I'm only at like forty eight percent,
- 49:14so when I plug in, it's supposed to pick up where it's left
- 49:16off. So I'm still I'm still debugging and damn if you get in complete
- 49:22updates. I think that's just what I am, just a walking incomplete update.
- 49:37Why you got to bring up the dog poem? Man? That things
- 49:39sad? Yes it is. It's UH scarred many of us over the years.
- 49:47M h Is that the email that you sent me? You sent me
- 49:52an email says, uh, it had no subject line and I haven't opened
- 49:55it yet. Is that what it is? Did you send me the dog
- 49:58poem? I did? Are you trying to see if you can make me
- 50:01cry? I got a hundred bucks says you can't get through the dog bomb
- 50:07without getting emotional? Really? Mm hmm? Okay, that's such an odd
- 50:15bet coming from the person who basically coined me as a cyborg of uh and
- 50:20having a lack of emotion. Yeah, you think you think I can't get
- 50:23through it? And a hundred bucks says, so I think this time it's
- 50:29I don't think you can get through it this time. I've got to give
- 50:31you credit, Tray. I did not see that coming. I I appreciate
- 50:35the I don't know left turn there. I don't even know which way to
- 50:38bet. I don't know and I don't either, And honestly, this is
- 50:44we're only like like twenty seven hours from from when Tara and I said goodbye
- 50:50to Joel. So I mean that's that's it's still pretty fresh. Yeah,
- 50:54that's okay. I gotta I got it the same day one time. And
- 51:00and Dan, I know you're at you're thinking it. Yes, you have
- 51:01to use the music too. Oh no, all right, that makes I
- 51:07feel like you're hedging your bet. Now I need to see if I even
- 51:12have it. Hang on, h that's a bumper. That's news. That's
- 51:23not appropriate. That's my favorite mm A tub situation. Hang on, are
- 51:37you ready to have the scared out of you? It's actually kind of fitting
- 51:40after the tub noise. Damn it. Oh, it's amazing because even just
- 51:50just hearing the music can start to get your primed for tears. Yeah wow,
- 51:58okay, all right, So one hundred bucks, one hundred bucks.
- 52:01If I can do this, I'm going to tell you my secret. If
- 52:04I can do this on this occasion, here's what's going to pull me through
- 52:07it. Because I'm thinking about because it's such a weird thing, and I
- 52:10understand it's a business and the VET needs to get paid for its services.
- 52:14I've always thought it was such a weird thing and an awkward thing. You
- 52:17feel like a doggy hit man. You know, they euthanize your your loved
- 52:22one, and then you go and pay them for it afterwards. So if
- 52:27I'm able to get through this, it's going to be because I'm thinking about
- 52:29your hundred dollars trade going towards the bill and not it costing you one hundred
- 52:36bucks. Yes, oh, I didn't think about that. I just I
- 52:42just thought of my thought. This would be a win for damn, that's
- 52:45what I thought. I didn't realize I was having to give you a hundred
- 52:46bucks. Also, this really adds to it. It's a bet. I
- 52:52don't like that bet, just like I just like the possibility of winning with
- 52:57no losing. Okay, all right, I'll click on this. It's such
- 53:07a weird title for this too, Like we always referred to it as the
- 53:09dog poem, but the title of it doesn't seem to fit. It's dogs
- 53:13don't have souls, do they? And the poem nowhere in it in the
- 53:16actual context of it, does it ever refer to anything about souls or anything
- 53:20like that. It just seems like it's a title for a different poem,
- 53:24and some of this stuff isn't even applicable to Joel. And I'm saying because
- 53:30in this story, in this poem, it's basically someone starts out with a
- 53:32puppy and a chewing on things when we never really that wasn't how we had
- 53:37Joel. We had Joel when he was like one or two years old.
- 53:40So the reason I'm saying that is because I think that'll make it easier for
- 53:44me. Yeah, because I mean I understand, you know, you're not
- 53:49going to think about the fourteen, you know, years you had with Joel.
- 53:52But the last paragraph, though, is always very applicable. All Right,
- 54:00I'm intentionally not reading down. I just saw the first two lines and
- 54:04so I'm not cheating, Okay, I mean I remember, I remember it
- 54:08pretty well, even though it's been a while since i've read it. A
- 54:12right, all right, here we go the dog poem for Joel. Do
- 54:27I have a time limit? No? Okay, I mean you just you
- 54:32just want to yeah, you, I mean, we can't finish this segment
- 54:36tomorrow, nor are we gonna pause for you to go get go, get
- 54:43housed. That wouldn't take a long pause. I got a bottle with then
- 54:52ten feet I mean, I can you can make this thing happen? All
- 54:57right? I remember bringing you home. You were small and cuddly, with
- 55:07your tiny paws and soft fur. You bounced around the room with eyes flashing
- 55:14and ears flopping. Once in a while you'd let out a little yelp just
- 55:17to let me know this was your territory. Making a mess of the house
- 55:22and chewing on everything inside became a passion, and when I scolded you,
- 55:25you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes,
- 55:29as if to say, I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as
- 55:31soon as you're not watching. As you got older, you protected me by
- 55:37looking out the window and barking at everyone who walked by. When I had
- 55:40a tough day at work, and there were lots of them, you would
- 55:45be waiting for me with your tail wagging, just to say welcome home.
- 55:47I missed you. You never had a bad day, and I could always
- 55:52count on you to be there for me. When I sat down to read
- 55:59the paper watch TV, you would hop on my lap looking for attention.
- 56:04You never asked for anything more than for me to pat your head so you
- 56:07could go to sleep with your head over my leg as you got older.
- 56:12God damn it, that's the part you're talking about, right, Yep,
- 56:19hang on, I died to engage my robot suctioning. As you got older,
- 56:27you moved around more slowly. I hate you, drow And then one
- 56:39day old age finally took its toll. You win, Dick, you win.
- 56:54You're happy. No, I'm not happy. But a hundred bucks is
- 57:00a hundred bucks. If that wasn't so funny, I'd be really pissed.
- 57:16God damn you. Uh, I guess better send me back to the manufacture.
- 57:27I see this part of league
