Islanders Draft Gustafsson for Top-4 Defense
The Islanders’ 13th overall pick, Malte Gustafsson, is a physical, defensively sound defenseman with elite potential — his gold-medal performance for Sweden’s U18 team lit up the draft. Projected as a top-four NHLer with Seth Jones-like traits, he’s a steady, puck-moving defenseman who may not dazzle offensively but delivers big minutes and grit. This draft, a pivotal moment for franchises and prospects alike, sets the stage for the next generation of NHL stars — where hidden gems and future leaders are forged.
