48. 20 Random Disney Facts (Plus, Disney Court!) · Sisters, Sisters: A Mouselets Podcast

• M2: Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of Sisters Sisters. M1: Welcome back. Okay, I feel like today we are gonna talk about something to start that we don't reference as much on the podcast sometimes. You obviously all know that we're Disney fans, but I am also a Marvel fan, and Mouselit too is a Star Wars fan. M2: A huge Star Wars fan, diehard Star Wars fan. M1: So we're kind of like split. It's interesting. I am not a Star Wars fan at all. I have seen some Star Wars and I actively really don't like it. Mouse Lit 2 has seen, what, two Marvel movies? M2: I saw Hulk, I saw Iron Man, and I saw Gar part of Guardians. M1: And you saw Guardians. Yes. So she seemed like two and a half. But as a Marvel fan, M2: I saw part of that Loki thing too. M1: Mm, I don't even remember what that one was. The show? No. No. I don't know. But Mouse 2 is just gonna like tune out for a sec because this is all gonna be meaningless to her. However, for you Marvel fans out there, the new Doomsday trailer dropped. And if you're anything like me, so I decided to watch Marvel actually because all of my coworkers leading up to Avengers Endgame like wouldn't stop talking about it. And I felt really out of the loop. And so I M2: No, it's a movie. M1: Decided to go on a quest and watch all of the Marvel movies in order. It actually ended up being very convenient because Mouseless C, who was one of those coworkers, I wasn't dating him at the time though. Now that I started dating him, he loves Marvel. So it worked out very well. But before that happened, I decided to watch all the Marvel movies in order. It was like 28 or something at the time. And there it it was so many. And they're for me a mixed bag. There are some Marvel movies that I love, Spider-Man movies, some of my favorites. M2: Does it work out well? M1: There are some that I think are terrible. I had to rent Thor Ragnarok three different times to get through it. I just like hated it. but Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame to me are like incredible. I love those movies. No spoilers, but I always prefer the movies where multiple Avengers come together rather than like the individual movies for the most part. So this next phase of Marvel, if you're a Marvel fan. M2: No spoilers. M1: has not been my favorite. I don't know. They're introducing too many characters, they're all over the place, and the characters have not come together in so, so, so long. So, seeing the doomsday trailer, I am like so excited to finally have characters coming together again. I'm obviously so excited for the thing, the surprise that they revealed at the end, which we already kind of knew, but whatever. Still I'm excited for it. So, for people with doomsday thoughts, well, I'll be there probably opening weekend, and I also I'm seeing Spider-Man opening weekend in like two weeks because the new Spider Man's coming out. I'm also excited for that. And I'm hoping that this breathes life into the MCU. Anyways, those are my doomsday thoughts, but I wanted to talk about how I yeah, because Masil T Lake doesn't understand any of that. But I wanted to talk about how how interesting it is that both of both of us originally were only Disney fans. Anything Star Wars and Marvel, we were like, ugh, like get this out of Disney. M2: Woof, that was barely could say away. my God. Everyone listening who doesn't get it, I feel ya. No, I started to like Star Wars in right when Galaxy's Edge opened, I kinda started to like get into a bit of a Star Wars era. M1: Okay, I did not. But then yeah, I went down the Marvel path, you went down the Star Wars path, and we really haven't crisscrossed like at all. M2: You know, at one point, and I don't remember when it was, I think actually now I'm realizing maybe it was before New York Comic Con last year, that I was like, maybe I'll try to watch all the Marvel movies. And for and then I was like, you what? If I'm gonna watch anything, I'm gonna finish all the Star Wars stuff. So I was like, no. And there's actually plenty of Disney movies I haven't seen. Like I never finished Luca, I never finished Ray and the Last Dragon, because I thought those both were boring. I haven't seen Toy Story Five. I haven't seen Inside Out Two. M1: You did. You like had a a surge for a moment. Yes, like I've said, Malsa Two is not Malsa Two's not a Disney movie person. M2: That one is like I haven't seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off and I like sort of proud of it that I refuse to watch it. I will say that Inside Out Two is sort of kind of becoming that. I'm like, I haven't seen that. I'm crazy. M1: She's quirky and crazy. I think something interesting about you and Mouselin A's journey into Star Wars is that you guys are like prequel stands, which based on what I hear, the mutterings in the Star Wars universe, I don't really think is that common. M2: it it's interesting, it kind of hits at a certain time. People who grew up with the prequels, which was not me, but like hypothetically kind of could have been me, I guess, but it wasn't. really like the prequels. We love the prequels. I think for people who just started getting into it, that's really not as much the case. I mean, the OGs are are really good. Like the original trilogy I really like, but if I have to choose any storyline, I love around like episode two to episode three with like Anakin. I love Obi Wan's backstory. Like I love Watto. I love all of kind of those characters. Speaking of Watto, M1: Not Wato. So I So I had seen episode four, the beginning of it, maybe two, two times or something, and I'd always fallen asleep because I really didn't like it. And Mouse Lid I said, no. If you have to just start with episode one and you're gonna love it, trust me. Like you just have to. And so whatever. I went I watched episode one. I did not love it. And she said, No, no, no. Episode one is not that good. You have to just watch episode two and then You will love it. M2: I actually I kind of agree with that. M1: And I watched episode two and I watched episode three. And I didn't love it. M2: You not liking episode three is crazy energy though. Seriously, insane. M1: Okay, but the writing isn't very good. M2: I actually disagree with that. People say that. I'm not on I'm not in agreement with that. okay. I I I need to get into one last thing. M1: She's desperate to talk about Watto. She's desperate to talk about Watto. M2: Well, everyone knows that I recently ordered a Watto funk no, adorable, a unreleased Watto Adorable. Paid $25 for it. M1: Adorable. Wait. Okay. I'm worried that you got scammed. M2: I didn't get scammed. It's coming out in a new peak pack soon. M1: Where did this person get it, do you think? M2: I don't know, and I don't care. I love it. Anyway, so me and Mouse Lit A this weekend just went to well, we were like we were passing the semi-abandoned mall that's like southern Massachusetts. And I was like, how fun would it be to go into this like mall that's basically abandoned? And so we turn in. The parking lot is completely full. We couldn't find a parking spot. And I said, Who said that this mall is abandoned? We go in the biggest the biggest trading c sports trading card event in New England, New England lore for Sitting on the ground talking episode, is going on. So the mall was packed, okay? Which was insane because usually it's empty. Although, like on the third floor, there because there was a Victoria's Secret and a pink, and I think that might have been the and a massage place, and those are the only things open on the entire third floor of the mall. Anyway, and so we went and we were kind of wandering around the mall exploring it, and we found this like toy ish. It wasn't a toy store, it was like a Kamikani type store. I don't really know how to describe it. It had various. M1: Like collectibles, trading cards. M2: Funkos and these Star Wars kind of things. And so I bought a Watto a little Watto figurine that I'm gonna turn into a keychain, which I'm very excited about. What? M1: Okay, here's here's the thing though. The Watto figurine is like the size of like a hand. And Nelson 2 kept saying, I'm gonna turn it into a keychain. And I can thinking to myself, wow, that is gonna be a gigantic, gigantic keychain. No, a bag charm. But you said keychain, and I'm picturing you I'm picturing you too going to work with a giant Watto keychain like this big. M2: Like a bag keychain. A bag charm is very like twenty twenty six of you. Bag Charm. I would. I would. M1: Dangling off your keys. M2: I would do that for sure. But I'm not going to because it's for back charm. Mouse Let A got a a battle droid figurine. We bought these cool two Haunted Mansion tiki mugs. And then we were so close to buying a Naboo Starfighter, which is like this ship from Naboo, and putting it in our living room. We didn't, and I think I'm gonna have to go back for it. So anyway, all right, well I had a couple of other things to discuss, but maybe we'll push it to next week because we should probably get into some news. We kind of mentioned that because D twenty three is coming up, the news is gonna be a less and less every single week. That being said, there actually is some news, so M1: The opening There's like one decent piece of news and some random news. Melissa too throw it through threw a real wacky one in here, so get excited. the official opening day for the Magic of Disney Animation has been announced. It is September 14th. That is the building in Animation Courtyard. And they released a very cute graphic, like a really fun graphic that shows the layout of of the building. So it's going to have four attractions. There's Drawn to Wonderland, which is going to be like an indoor Alice in Wonderland. playground like playscape thing. There is off me too. It's so cute. There is off the page, which is gonna be the meet and greet area, which has like kind of a random assortment of characters, to be honest. But Mulan Rapunzel like some of the Fab Five, I believe. Then there's Olaf Draws, which is the new animation academy experience that is led by an animatronic Olaf. I know people have strong feelings about this being an animatronic. I'm me too, I wish that it was a real animator. M2: I love that. So fun. M1: However, I'm excited to see what they do with the animatronic. I hope that it's good because I always loved the animation experiences that they had. And then there's the Once Upon a Studio Theater, which I don't even know that we officially knew was coming before this. And they haven't really announced what we'll be playing here. so I'm curious for for exactly what that will be, but I M2: Attend a special screening of Once Upon a Studio featuring Mickey Mouse and beloved characters from the history of Disney animation. M1: okay. Yes. So Once Upon a Studio was the short that they put together for Disney One Hundred, which is like a ton of characters like coming to life in the animation studio. It's very cute. That's I like that. And I think that this will be such a nice, large, air-conditioned space for families to go like take a break in, let kids kind of like go explore. I'm extremely excited to see how they did it. M2: I'm really excited for this. A couple of interesting things. This isn't gonna be in the same building that's always been there. They're gonna just re-theme it, but I'm very curious. There's stair there were staircases in there if they're keeping the same layout. And specifically, we were just in there, I don't know what we were do filming something, or maybe it was for that scavenger hunt we were on. But we when you go through the like under the hat, basically there's there's stroller parking. They didn't really redone that all. In fact, it looked exactly identical to what looked M1: Yes. M2: when it was originally the Backlot tour entrance a bazillion years ago. But then also when it was the ma the animation thing, when it was the guy like it looked exactly the same. And I'm like, I guess we're not redoing that. Like I guess we're not touching that. That could use a little zhing. The other thing I'm curious about is if off the page we'll have characters in a traditional meet and greet s like area, like you cue for them, or if it's gonna be more of the interactive thing that's outside of animation courtyard, because that's amazing and I'm sad to lose that. So M1: Yeah, they didn't no, they didn't seem like they were touching the Yeah. I know, me too. M2: We'll find out soon. Other pieces of Disney news. yes, I did throw a wild card, but I'm not gonna get into that one yet. D twenty three, it's coming up. The show floor details were revealed. Disney announced that this year's D23 Expo will feature its largest show floor ever, along with the Disney Princess concert at Disneyland to kick off the event. and there's a lot of other panels and things that were announced. We are in the process of ranking our preferred panels more on D twenty three soon. M1: Next, this was so random. There was randomly chalk art at the TTC. So it was a chalk art that was like an extremely realistic portrait of Walt that someone like a you know a hired person, not like a random guest, was making at the TTC. I mean cute, I love that little touch of magic. Feels extremely random to me. I don't know that why they did that or if they will do it again, but yeah. Love it, really random. This is Malsa Touch wild card. M2: Love it. Odd, but love it. Here's my here's my wild card. The bell hops at Pop Century got new costumes. wait, that was the worst piece of news that you ever shared like a month ago. This is the news. This is interesting to me. Disney assigned a major partnership with Kraft Heinz. Disney and Kraft Heinz announced a multi year strategic partnership where Kraft Heinz will become the exclusive supplier for several food categories. One would assume ketchup, probably, but M1: Nope, nope. M2: Across Disney's North American parks, resorts, and cruise ships, while Disney characters will begin appearing on craft products. Expect themed food experiences in the parks. I have a lot of thoughts on this. There's M1: I did see a little something about this and I think that Kraft Mac and Cheese is gonna be used and I do love Kraft Mac and Cheese. M2: I was to say Craft Mac and Cheese already has a Moana set and all the Disney characters on it. I buy the Mickey Craft Mac and Cheese sometimes. Except well, now I'm a Cabot Craft a Cabot Mac and Cheese Loyals 'cause it's lactose free. So thanks to the big E. but yeah, I'm very, very curious about that partnership and I'm sort of surprised that they're not gonna be sponsoring like a ride or an experience. But I can anticipate that we'll be getting some crafty type things coming soon. M1: Ha ha. Agreed. I was trying to look it up but could not. last little one. M2: I I I looked it up. There's a giant article about it and it's like it's so like f fancical. The multi year collaboration brings consumers at scale. I just was like, I can't get through this. So M1: Yeah, this was too dense. I I felt the same. the descendants costumes were added to one man's dream in the in the costume viewing area. Mousla two and I are very much in our descendants era ever since we had the opportunity to go. I watched part of it. Yeah, I haven't finished it yet because I have a baby. But I'm loving it. It's so fun seeing the the like people that we got to meet in the movie. It's like extremely cool and weird. Like M2: Wait, have you watched Wicked Wonderland? Same, I'm halfway through. M1: Weird in a cool way. and the music is all absolute bops. So we're in our descendants' era, and yeah, the costumes are one man's dream. M2: Alright, now it is time to get into the main segment and I'm incredibly excited for this. We are doing 10 random Disney facts each. I don't know what Mouse that one has. She doesn't know what I have. So we're gonna kind of do a discussion, talk about them, and it's just things that we randomly thought of. We know so many Disney facts, like so many of them. We might have shared some of these in our kind of fact of the day at the end, but we'll be getting into more details. Do you wanna start or do you want me to start? M1: I can start. We did two for each park, and then two were kind of like wild cards. So per usual, we're starting in Magic Kingdom. And my first one is I feel like there's random things that like when I was younger and was learning facts, I just like really glommed onto. I was like, my gosh, so cool that I know these facts. One of those was Liberty Square Facts. Do you remember that? It was like just yeah, my blog article about Liberty Square Facts. Like it was just like one of those things that I was like very into. M2: Yeah. Your blog article? I remember for M1: So I thought I would like talk about a couple of the Liberty Square facts because really what inspired this was Malisa too and I recently had a big discussion about the poop trail in Liberty Square, which I'm sure everybody knows about. If you don't, it is the fact that the like brown rock path that goes through Liberty Square is meant to represent waste that was thrown into the streets back in the day and would like create these rivers through the streets. So that is why that's there. I feel like that's M2: You're making them seem like liter the people of the past, like literal, like savages. Okay. They were like basically like thro thrown out in bucket like it was maybe a little more graceful than that, although I do think some of them were throwing chamber pots out the second story, but M1: No guys, there was no indoor plumbing. Like So there's no under plumbing. That is what that is meant to represent. I feel like that's like one of the most known Disney facts because it's like kind of easy to use as clickbait, honestly, like on social media. But sort of semi-related fact is that there aren't yeah, is that there are no bathrooms in Liberty Square. Again, I feel like this is like M2: Guilty. M1: the most common fact ever that everybody knows. But because they wanted it to feel authentic, there was no indoor plumbing, so there are no bathrooms. Technically the bathrooms that are inside Columbia Harbor House and Liberty Tree Tavern are actually like set so far back that they don't actually sit within Liberty Square. That's what they say. M2: Okay, wait. Do we think that this do you think they might have taken it too far with that one? I kind of as a lover of like a big immersive theme, I'm like sometimes I'm by the haunted mansion. I know Tangles right near there. I'm like, I'm in a bathroom desert and like yeah. M1: Honestly, I do wait, no. Yeah, sometimes you're right there and it's like, ooh, I just like would love to sort of use a restroom and there isn't one here. And like I don't and I don't know if that was fully necessary. also kind of maybe because of this, maybe just because they're old. But the bathrooms in Columbia Harbor House and Liberty Trav Tree Tavern are so tiny. They're terrible. M2: Literally. I don't mind the Liberty Tree Tavern one, although in hindsight actually it is sort of terrible and there's always a huge line. But the one in Columbia Harbor House, I'm like, jeepers, creepers, you're better off just walking to the when we were in Disney last, the tangled bathroom was closed and or maybe it was in May, but whatever it was. And I was in the Columbia Harbor House bathroom and I waited so long that finally I just said, Screw this, and I didn't even go. That's when you know. M1: It's way too small It's way too small. yeah, so those are some bathroom facts, but there's other fun facts about Liberty Square as well. There's actually so many like details here. So one that I love is all of the shutters in Liberty Square are sort of cock-eyed, you know, they're not fully straight on, which I guess you might look at and just be like, olden times, like I don't know, they couldn't get them straight, but no, it's because in order to hold the shutters up, they would use leather, and over time the leather would stretch. And so the shutters would kind of fall a little bit as the leather stretched out. And that's why all the shutters are like that. It's supposed to be, you know, look like how it would have been in the actual times. M2: And I think that they were using leather, although I'm a weird in my mind I think our friend Greg debunked this, but we at least learned this on a tour. We learned this on the Keys to the Kingdom or Marceline to Magic tour, I don't remember which, that they were using leather because it was during the war and they needed all the metal to be used for ammunition. So they used leather. But M1: Yes. But so yeah, that's why that's why the windows are all cockeyed. Another one is that the Liberty Bell that is in Liberty Square, when it was the United States' bicentennial in 1976, it was actually just the semi, semi-bicent semi-quincennial. Anyways, the 200th anniversary was in 1976. It was just the 250th. For the 200th anniversary, the United States decided to cast the Liberty Spell and And give one to each state. But they made 50. But Pennsylvania doesn't need a replica of the Liberty Bell because Pennsylvania already has the real r liberty bell. And so that Liberty Bell instead went to Walt Disney World. And so that is why Walt Disney World has a replica of the Liberty Bell. And it is the same as the 50 that were cast for all the states in that time, which I think is so cool. and then M2: Yeah, I think that's a really cool fact. M1: My last favorite is that the big tree that's in Liberty Square, that was a tree that was on Walt Disney World property back when like they were originally surveying the property. And Walt saw it and he said, my god, like that is the tree that I want in Liberty Square. It was like 135 years old or something like that. And so Walt or obviously Walt passed away, but since he had asked for it, a horticulture team like dug up that tree and moved it to Liberty Square and kept it alive and you know did all this stuff. And on it now hang 13 lanterns to represent the 13 colonies. M2: That's a good one. There's so many others. This is like we could literally get into like a Liberty Square deep dive. What I love about Liberty Square is that no one really loves Liberty Square, which makes it more fun to love it and to find all the hidden facts. okay, I'll do my first Magic Kingdom one, which is about Mickey's birthday land, which is the fact that Mickey's birthday land was the first new land that came to Magic Kingdom. And it might not be familiar to you if you haven't if you didn't ever go to it, but you actually probably did. So M1: There's a zillion. I agree. M2: The year is nineteen eighty-eight and Mickey Mouse is celebrating his 60th birthday, I believe. I think he's born in 1928. Seems right. and they decided to throw a surprise party for Mickey Mouse. And so what they did was they built this little custom kind of tiny land. It ended up becoming Toontown, spoiler alert in case you're like, what the heck is this? So you'd board the Mickey's Birthdayland Express train. you could get on right from the, you know, main street and you would enter Mickey's birthday land. They had the city of Duckburg. That was kind of one of the biggest highlights. So they had facades of different buildings from Duckburg, Duck County School, where Huey, Dewey, and Louie went to school, Goofy's clip joint barbershop, a little bit of a mouthful there. The SS Donald, the home of the famed Duckbird inventor Jiro Gearloose, a candy store, Duck Duckburg News, and more. I just need to do the caveat. I don't know anything about Duckburg. I think it's from whatever the duck tail says. M1: It's just something that we missed and I'm honestly really sad about it because there's like lately been a lot of duck Lorkana has a lot of DuckTales references. It's just like the it's about it's around and we just don't know it. M2: Yeah, like Lor The one with the hat, like yeah. We missed it. they had the Mickey's birthday party tent, and so inside of there there was a show, Minnie's surprise birthday party, where she did a show where everyone got excited to surprise Mickey Mouse with like a cake and candles. And then there was also Mickey meet and greet in another tent. and then the last kind of iconic attraction with this was Grandma Duck's pill. petting zoo and this was a like a petting zoo where they had a cow named Minnie Moo who had a literal like black spot that looked like a hidden Mickey and Minnie Moo lived lived there. She might have lived at the campground. I'm not sure but I think she lived at the petting zoo and you could visit her. This is so like niche Disney, so different. No one seems to really remember this is where Toon Tun got its roots. So M1: We were just talking about Minnie Moo because there's that reference to her at Woody's Roundup, Rodeo Barbecue. They have a little drawing of Minnie Moo, which is so fun. I we never saw this. We were too young. But it just in general, it makes me miss Toontown. I'm sorry, Storybook Circus is two thumbs down for me, Toontown was two hundred times better. M2: yeah. Well, the first Mickey's birthday land was literally supposed to be the most temporary land ever, and it was because two years later in nineteen ninety, when his birthday was over, they renamed it to Mickey's Starland. And it was basically exactly Mickey's Birthdayland, but it didn't have the birthday show. Instead, it had Mickey's magical TV world and then it became Mickey's Starland show. But like otherwise, it was the same. Then they renamed it again in nineteen ninety-five to Mickey's Toyland, which I don't think they were doing for Christmas, but I feel like they kind of regretted. And then finally Toontown opened up and they really kind of zhuzzed it up. They had a brand new roller coaster, the Barnstormer. They built Mickey's Country House, which iconic's so good. They had Minnie's house. Donald had a boat. They had the Hall of Fame area. Like Toontown was amazing. And I understand that Disneyland's Toontown, although our Toontown was fur w we were the first to do it, to be clear. I understand that Disneyland's Toontown is better, but Storybook Circus is not. And I like Storybook Circus, but it's just like. M1: don't even like it. Sorry, sorry. Sorry. We're doing hot takes later in the episode and that should have been my one of my hot takes, honestly. I would I wouldn't be. M2: I mean I would be sad if it was gone. I would be sad if it was gone, but I'm just like I get what they were doing. It feels like the exact example of like a mouse at one like rolling her eyes. Anyway, all right, that's the story of Mickey's birthday land. M1: Ha ha ha Okay, I'll just stay in Magic Kingdom. My other fact here is that the country bear jamboree, the concept for that actually came from like a very, very unique place. So back in the day, Walt Disney ended up being involved in the Winter Olympic Games. And this like really inspired him, around things like winter sports. We eventually got the Matterhorn, but like in general, he was very inspired by winter sports. And sort of at the same time The National Forest Service was trying to build more like recreation areas. And so they decided to put a site called Mineral King up for bidding to see if any private companies wanted to come build basically like a ski resort in this area called Mineral King. It was supposed to be this like completely undeveloped, beautiful, I guess, ski slope area. I don't know. And whalt Disney M2: You do know, you've done an entire deep dive on it. M1: yeah, was like in the Sequoia National Forest. It was like very remote. It was supposed to be very beautiful. Amazing skiing. Walt Disney decided that he was going to submit a a pitch for Walt Disney to build a ski resort there. But he didn't want it to be just another ski resort. He wanted this to be like a model community, similar to what he envisioned for Epcot. Like he wanted it to be a self-sustaining community where they would have, you know, all these different things that you needed to. To function on its own. It wouldn't just be skiing. It was gonna be year-round. And that's pretty much why he won the pitch, is because he had like such a broader vision than just a ski resort. And it was for that project that he developed the idea of a dinner show with singing bears, because like you were in the forest. The ski resort ultimately didn't go through. It hinged upon them building a highway to this like extremely remote area and it M2: And like massive environmental impacts, yeah. M1: Yeah, it had like massive impacts and it would have been extremely expensive and it just like never happened, and therefore that area has actually never been built on and now is like a designated, you know, wildlife area. But it was that concept that inspired the idea for a singing bear dinner show, which is what ultimately gave us the country bear jamboree, which is crazy to me because the country bear jamboree is just like so, so, so iconic. Also, as a side note to the country bear jamboree. If you're ever in Disneyland, their Winnie the Pooh attraction took over Country Bear Jamboree. And as you enter, I believe the Huffle Lumps and Woozles room, you can turn around and see the three, like the three heads, you know, like the bison, the moose, and whatever hanging on the wall. And honestly, I actually find it extremely upsetting and creepy because they're not moving. I don't know. They creep me out. They creep me. They actually look up a picture of it. They creep me out. M2: Yeah. No, they're they love to be in there. They're happy. That area, what's it called now? Bayou Country something? Is it called critter country? M1: Yeah, it used to be critter country. Now I think it's Bayou No, now I think it's Bayou Country. It used to be critter country, yes. Okay. M2: No. No. I don't know if it is by you country. Okay, you can look it up while I'm talking. that area leaves something to be desired at Disneyland. So okay, I'll do that is is that true? That's the worst name I've ever heard in my life. M1: It's called Bayou Country. It is true. I just looked it up and confirmed it. M2: my god. What's why is Pooh in the bayou? M1: I don't know. Because it used to be critter country, and the only critter was Pooh. They should have just named it Critter Country. They should have just kept that name. M2: Okay, could they just put Right. It should have just left are you I think you might be wrong. That's the I I'm in shock that they would come up with the name Bayou Country. M1: I'm not. Guys, this was renamed to Bayou Country like three years ago. Maybe four. M2: Unbel and I may I think I knew that, but this is unbelievable. What a horrible name. Wow. My last fact for Magic Kingdom is something that I M1: Next. Excuse me. We said two free two each. right, I started. M2: I did one. Said, James, my last fact is inspired by something that I wrote on my cell phone in a note this morning. Sometimes I have random ideas that I say. I'm gonna make a video on this. And here's what I wrote The lore of Magic Kingdom quick service restaurants, and that's what I'm gonna chat about. The Magic Kingdom quick service restaurants, something that most people wouldn't care about, have so much lore. And I'm going to run through it very briefly, specifically focused on one. M1: Ha ha M2: In our abandoned episode that we did a while back, we talked all about the Tomorrowland Terrace, which was the original quick service sit-down in Tomorrowland. It was over where Cosmic Rays is today. They've done a whole renaming, but that was that was the OG. Okay, the Tomorrowland Terrace. And there's a lot of lore there, but I'm not really gonna get into it because we've discussed it before. Always happy to discuss it again. now over at Fantasyland, they had one of my favorite places, one of my favorite quick service places, Pinocchio's Village House. It was a M1: Where's hang on one second? M2: Bop then don't stop. Stop. We've been getting hundreds of complaints about the boo button. Pinocchio's Village House. That was the OG quick service in fantasy land. Just to be clear, they intended to have a a quick service location in every single land. So Pinocchio's Village House is still there today. It was, you know, really fitting kind of the Bavarian storybook kind of vibe that they were gonna have. In Liberty Square, they had the Nantucket Harbor House, which was later renamed to the Columbia Harbor House. That opened slightly after park opening, but it was really like the OG place in Liberty Square. Again, that they wanted to have a quick service place there. Over in Frontierland, they had Paco's Bill, Tall Tail Inn and Cafe. there were also various smaller locations. They opened up the Plaza Pavilion as well, which was the main street USA quick service that they had, which was built into Morrowland. But The one I wanted to focus on is the fact that Adventureland used to have a huge quick service restaurant, just like Paco's Bill, just like Pinocchio's Village House, just like what is now Cosmic Rays, and it was opened from 1971 until 1994. It is one of my many passions in life, and it's called the Adventureland Veranda. You probably have never heard of it if you didn't go to Disney before that time, because it sat abandoned for many, many, many years. But the Adventureland Veranda opened in October 1st of 1971. And here's D twenty three's official description of it. It served fast food with a tropical flavor, such as terioke sa teriaki sauce and a pineapple ring on a hamburger. It was sponsored by Kiko Man beginning on October 5th of 1977. It closed in nineteen ninety four. It was later, quote, utilized for special events and character meet greet. And in twenty fifteen, it reopened as the Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen. This was located right where the Skipper Canteen is today. It was larger though at the time. It was Taking up more of the area over where the bathrooms are because they did a bathroom expansion. It also took the area over by where club thirty-three is. And if you want some true mouse lit's lore. We met Miko over by the Adventureland veranda when it was abandoned. M1: This is like not even lore. It's the most random thing. And Mouselit 2 is like because I don't have any recollection of what you're talking about. M2: And you deny it. You deny it. Right, but you didn't but you deny it. Did we or did we not meet Miko? M1: I cannot say. M2: So huge giant quick service restaurant, a really, really cool theme in there. It had all of these outdoor seating areas. It had such like an ambiance, nineteen seventy one to nineteen ninety four. And then it literally sat abandoned for twenty years. And they would like occasionally open it for special events. Clearly the demand was not there, but I think that's insane that no one talks about this abandoned restaurant that was there. M1: I was it that just made me realize I remember chatter about Skipper Canteen opening when Skipper Canteen was like being created. I remember it being like, whatever. I could not tell you, despite the fact that we went to Disney, Skipper Canteen opened in 2015. I just looked. Despite the fact that we went to Disney for 20 years leading up to that, couldn't tell you what used to be where Skipper Canteen was. I have no I well, yeah, now that you're saying that. M2: The Adventure Land Miranda. M1: But like vi can I picture it in my head, despite the fact that we walked past it for twenty years? No. M2: I can kind of picture part of it, specifically from my like clear memory of meeting Miko over there, but so much more to come 'cause I'm probably gonna do a full deep dive on this because it's kind of just become a an obsession of mine. So next up, shall we get should we do Epcot? Should go by park order? M1: As always. I feel like we also spoke so long about each of those facts. And if we keep doing that, that's gonna be like a two hour episode. this next one. So when Disney was creating Future World, what is now World Discovery, which is the side with Guardians Test Track, Mission Space, and then World Nature, which is the side with like the seas, the land figment. It was kind of created after the idea of like left brain, right brain. So think. M2: Okay, fine, we'll speed it up. M1: Left brain is supposed to be very analytical. let me think of other words to describe the left brain. Yeah, sure. Yeah, scientific calculation analytical. One right brain is your creative, imaginative, sort of free-flowing side. Yeah, so they they showed this in the pavilions that are there. Again, right side has like nature and imagination pavilions. The left side has, you know, test track, like energy. M2: Scientific calculations. Yep. Whimsical, yeah. M1: space, those type things. but they also wanted to show this in the design of the lands. So on the left side in World Discovery, every pathway and stuff is very angular. It's all straight lines with angles. There's lots of like lines in the ground and everything is very sharp. On the right side in world nature, everything is curvy. All the paths are curvy. There's ponds, there's walkways that sort of loop around. There's this one walkway I can picture it. Coming from World Showcase to the land, that's like the stupidest dead end. It just sort of like loops around a pond. We always are tempted to go down it, but it like doesn't actually cut to where you think it does. Anyways, yes, yes. But it's meant to be like very natural. And so I love that they took that. M2: Yeah. Over but yeah, but the l between the seas and the land. Yeah. Yep. M1: sort of and applied it to the ground itself. Like not something you'd really ever think about. But if next time you're there, if you pay attention, you'll see they're designed completely differently, the two halves, in order to reflect the type of pavilions. M2: That's a good one. And that's one of my favorites that I think we learned on the Undiscover Future World tour potentially. Or we got which or like it solidified it. I think we knew it, but that tour was so good. We should do a deep dive on tour soon. Next up, I'm gonna do one that's also in Future World. This is one that I think almost no one knows about, which is why it's one of my favorite things to talk about. Epcot was supposed to have a people mover. M1: Which was an amazing tour and it's so sad that doesn't exist. This is one of Masletu's Roman empires. M2: This is one of my Roman Empires, one of my many Roman Empires. So allow me to step on my soapbox and discuss. After the idea for Epcot the City, the true experimental prototype community of tomorrow kind of ended up, which is right behind me if you're watching on video. After the idea for Epcot faded away after Walt passed away and the Disney company was trying to decide what to do with Epcot, it went through a series of changes and eventually they decided to build a a theme park. And from there, They were looking at how they could implement some of Walt's ideas into this theme park, specifically into this future world area. And one of the things that was the most important to the city of Epcot for Walt was having a monorail and having people movers. So they did the monorail, even though they considered not doing it. And there's a ton of lore about that. But they also had plans to build a people mover on the second story of where the communic buildings are, as well as sort of petering around future world. And There's some concept art, but not a lot. But there's a couple of pieces of concept art that actually show this people mover and what it would have looked like. And Disney pretty quickly cut it, probably because of cost. Honestly, Epcot was getting really expensive, but they've never said why. But if you know where to look, you can find that. And people always said that the interventions and the communicor and the creations and the connections, all those buildings have a second floor. They're very, very tall. People always say it's because the people mover was supposed to go up by the windows inside of those buildings. It is one of my favorite facts in the world. And I'm so, so, so, so, so, so, so wish they had done it. And I know they never will. And it's deficit if I ever become the CEO of Disney, I'm doing that. M1: Okay, well I'll stay tuned for that. Unfortunately that's probably not gonna happen, so we're probably never gonna get it. But it would have been crazy. I mean, people love the people mover, I will say. M2: You're nasty. Me? I love it. People mover is the future of transportation. M1: Maybe they do have the people mover in an airport, in a singular airport. M2: I told you that fact. M1: And M2: Next. M1: My other one is that when they were starting to conceptualize and create Epcot, this was really the first time that Disney was creating a non-castle park. And so they wanted to make sure that it was going to feel different from their castle parks. And they were trying to figure out exactly how to do that, how to differentiate it. And one of the things they decided is that Epcot was for learning about the world. And that meant no Disney characters. Disney characters were not a part of their vision for Epcot. So they had a very strict directive that there was to be pretty much no intellectual property of any kind in Epcot, including like Mickey. And so Epcot was built that way. But when the Imagineers were, you know, getting their hands on things, I think the idea of not having Mickey anywhere felt like weird. And so they decided that they would hide some little tributes to him throughout the parks. one of or throughout Epcot. One of my favorites is in China. There are these two like Posts with lanterns on them, honestly, you've probably never noticed them if you're not looking for them. But posts with lanterns on them when you're walking in, and on the posts are these little Mickeys made out of swirls. They're very loosely defined hidden Mickeys. Like they're not perfect at all because these were the first hidden Mickeys. This is why hidden Mickeys started to become a thing, and they really weren't a thing at all at the time. It was just Imagineer's way of giving a little nod to Mickey. And then it ended up being like. you know, through the grapevine within the Disney company, someone who was working for Disney like internal communications ended up like writing an article in a Disney internal like blog thing about it. That ended up getting spread around. And there was like a much larger article that came out in an actual, you know, public facing publication at some point. And that's kind of how Mickey hidden Mickeys came to be. And at one point, Epcot Guest Relations had like an official list of good hidden Mickeys that they would give out. in the very early days. That has never happened since. Disney has no official list of hidden Mickeys. Any books that you see are like not written by Disney. They're just people who love to find them. M2: Which is pretty fun. My favorite, there's a bowling ball one in Italy, and there's also a little like statue up in Germany by the Toy Store that I really like. So those are probably my favorites over in that area. Okay, my last Epcot one is one that both interestingly enough, me Mouse and One have both kind of talked about on various platforms the past week or two. Sometimes this pops into our mind and we discuss it, I guess. But it's the fact that M1: Yes. M2: I'm about to do a deep dive on this also. So this is gonna be coming soon. This is the video that I was working very hard to finish. If you listen to the sitting on the ground talking segment, is that when Epcot was announced, they went through a very vast, kind of ever-changing list of which countries would come to the world showcase. Mexico, Germany, Italy, the USA, obviously, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, Canada, those were always on the list. Morocco was always on the list. China didn't come up on the list until 1980. but Disney was planning very quickly after they opened up the original pavilions to do a phase two of the world showcase. And they actually announced many of those, many more than even are I'm on the list, I'm gonna say they announced Costa Rica, they announced Venezuela. Those were kind of scrapped early on. But they put out signs in Epcot for Equatorial Africa, Israel, and Spain. Those three, they literally put like billboards out saying these countries are coming. Equatorial Africa was supposed to be three different like African countries who had kind of come together to create one pavilion. They had a similar idea with the Scandinavian pavilion, which eventually just became Norway. Spain was gonna be a fully immersive Spain pavilion. I kind of think Spain feels like it's missing. I'm like, it's kind of weird we don't have a Spain. Well, they were supposed to. And then the Israel pavilion also was gonna be very detailed and sponsored by Israel. Obviously, those ended up getting cut. little teaser, you'll see it on my my next YouTube video all about this. But I think it's crazy that they actually announce these in person. M1: Well, if you're curious about things they announced, I guess I just did a YouTube video about a bunch of announcements that Disney has made and not done, some of which are very long in the past, like that. But I counted up eight D23 announcements. There have only been eight D23s. They started in 2009. And since then, Disney has announced eight like giant projects, such as a theater coming to Main Street USA and Magic Kingdom, that they then just never discussed again and never came to be. so if you want to look at look learn about that, it's on YouTube. We are moving on to Hollywood Studios. And I will start, I'll tie it into Epcot. The whole concept for Hollywood Studios actually came because it was supposed to be a pavilion at Epcot. So when they were brainstorming concepts, the idea of like movies, movie making entertainment was a concept that they were exploring for Epcot. And as Michael Eisner was coming in, this was so much bigger. They decided this was so much bigger than what a pavilion should be, that it sort of morphed into the idea of Hollywood Studios. M2: I can't even imagine a movie making pavilion at Epcot. It's crazy to think about. M1: Me neither. It actually doesn't feel like it fits to me at all. It's not like I d I don't know. I can't picture it. M2: Just I just added a hot take for our next segment. Thanks for reminding me. okay, my my next Hollywood one that I'll do is that all many of the buildings on Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard are inspired by real places in kind of the LA area. A few ones of note. my god, Pluto's I almost said Tuto's Poy Palace. Pluto's Toy Palace, which Toy Palace too. Pluto's Toy Palace. Say that five times fast. Go. M1: Tudos. Pluto's Toy Palace, Pluto's Toy Palace. I'm not having any struggles with this. M2: Pluto's Toy Palace, Pluto's Toy Palace, Pluto's Toy Palace. Pluto's Anyway, Pluto's Toy Palace, Tuto's Poi Palace, is inspired by a real dog and cat hospital in like the Hollywood area. The crossroads of the world, when you actually enter Hollywood studios, it's like a round sort of building that has various tchotchkis in there and a Mickey on top and a globe. That's inspired by the f what's considered the first outdoor shopping mall on the Real Sunset Boulevard. there's so many others though. Keystone clothiers? Is that how you pronounce that word? M1: Two does M2: Clothiers? M1: Yeah, I think so. That's how I pronounce it. M2: Okay. I heard someone say clothiers recently when that's and I but I thought they were maybe making a mistake. M1: I'm sorry, it sounds like you just said the exact same thing that you said before. M2: Clothiers, clothiers. Clothiers, Clothiers is inspired by Real Building, but so many of them are. It's so cool that Disney drew like that real inspiration. and similar things for California Adventure, but not quite as much as Hollywood Studios. M1: My next one, another thing that I was obsessed with as a child was Tower of Terror. So here's some Tower of Terror facts, which is that first of all, when you're standing outside, you hear the screams of everybody falling. Those are all piped in. So those are speakers playing the screams to make you kind of enticed. Some of them are real, but like most of them are piped in. And that's why, you know, it's enticing you to go in. one that I think was added like semi more recently is when you're going up to where the M2: I mean some of them are real, but M1: Two walkways are to the s go into the side, the stretching room. There's like a board in the middle that has, you know, information about the hotel. the wow, it's what is that called? The pre show room. The library. there's a board with information about the hotel. And if you look down, some of the letters have fallen and it says take the stairs. I think it says something something. M2: The stretching room. Library. Or it's it says yeah, a bunch of evil towel, you're doomed. They had it for a long time, then they took it away and then they brought it. M1: Yeah. Then in the lobby, I think this one is kind of weird, I'm not gonna lie. But there's something in the real world that's like a hotel rating system that's a diamond rating system. I believe that yes, because the most diamonds that you can get is four in the real world. Maybe five, but I'm like 99% sure it's four. In the Tower of Terror, they have a plaque with 13 because the haunted number, but like, okay. M2: I knew you were gonna talk about this one. This one always perturbs you. It's like a M1: The most that you can actually get is four. If the most you could actually get was 12 and they had 13, it would be like wink. Four to thirteen, I think, is really weird. it it has. I I I d I really don't. I think it's really strange. when you exit the Tower of Terror on the right side, you can see a menu for a restaurant that existed at the Hollywood Tower Hotel. It's called the Sunset Room. We learned this. M2: This one's that's always bothered you. You've never you've never liked that fact. M1: specifically during our scavenger hunt that we just did. it was one of the clues. Guys Mouse Let you figured it M2: How did you learn that? How did you learn it? I'm curious. In the scavenger hunt. Wait, but where how did you know? How did you figure out that it was in there? I have to M1: Anyways, it is called the Sunset Room, and you can see a menu outside the door, and the menu is dated October thirty first, nineteen eighty nine, which was like the last day that the the hotel was in operation. Then M2: Nin nineteen eighty nine, nineteen forty nine. Nineteen forty two. Like M1: Nineteen thirty nine. Nineteen thirty nine. Fun fact, I get my eights and my threes confused and I get my sixes and my nines confused because they look the same. M2: I get my R's and my Fours confused. Always. I anytime I try to type a four I type an R. I something about it. They're next to each other on the keyboard, but like they're so similar. M1: Why? I get eights and threes confused. Anyways, my last one is Rod Sterling is the host of The Twilight Zone. By the time that this attraction was being made, he had already passed away. So they were able to like use archival footage of him and stuff to like have him be in the pre-show, but they need a different narration. And his wife was still alive. And so she helped listen to like hundreds of voice actors to pick the one. who she felt was the most representative of her husband. I think it turned out really well. I would yeah, same. M2: That's cool. Yeah. I wouldn't know the difference, to be honest. Okay, my last one, which I I we've definitely discussed, and I discussed this in the episode with Taryn and Mouselette A about Star Wars, but the origin of the Star Wars land after they built Star Tours was that Disney started planning to build a full Star Wars land. And this was before the true age of the big immersive land. So before the Pandoras and the Cars Land that like we're kind of around the era of Carsland, I guess. They were planning to build a Tatooine and an Endor. it was gonna be located over by the Backlot Express restaurant, kind of by Indiana Jones, adjacent to Echo Lake, kind of where Star Tours is, because they obviously wanted to connect to Star Tours. It was gonna be more, for lack of a better word, like more like kitschy, less immersive than what Galaxy's Edge is. It was gonna just kind of be like a regular land that had like rides that were themed, but not like you're not stepping foot into the true world. For example, when you go into fantasy land, In ox actuality, does it make sense that you're visiting the hundred acre wood and then you're also going to Neverlands? Like maybe, maybe not. You know, obviously they've themed all these things together, but the true immersive land, that's not what this is gonna be. They were gonna have a speeder bike ride. They considered having this choose your own adventure type roller coaster thing. It would fit perfectly with the Jedi Training Academy. But then when the new movies were being developed, Disney executives saw a sneak preview of the new move of episode seven and said, This is so good. We have to make a land themed around this. And so then they decided to do Batu, Galaxy's Edge, which is a really cool concept. and I like it in a lot of ways. I love the book. So if you haven't read that book, highly recommend. but yeah, it it doesn't I would have rather seen something from the movies, although I like that they were being creative. So they were trying to do Tatooine, but they didn't. All right, Animal Kingdom and then our random slash resorts ones. M1: Mine is something I feel like I talk about all the time, but it is about Beastly Kingdom. So quick history. When they were creating Animal Kingdom, they really wanted to make sure it didn't feel like a zoo. So they said, how can we distinguish this from zoos? Obviously, we'll have real animals, but we also want to showcase animals that no longer exist, so prehistoric animals, dinosaurs, and animals that never existed, so mythical creatures. And they had this whole concept. For a land called Beastly Kingdom, which is gonna feature like dragons and unicorns. It was not built because of the initial budget, Animal Kingdom's budget ballooned like crazy because of all the animal stuff that they had to do. But they always intended to build it. And so they wanted to get people who were visiting the park when it first opened, like excited about the fact that Beastly Kingdom was coming. So they had these little things around the park that were kind of nodding to Beastly Kingdom, and a few are still there. It's the reason that there's a unicorn parking zone. It's the reason that one of the ticket booths, so the ticket booths have a bunch of animals, but then there's like one centerpiece animal. One of the centerpiece animals is a dragon. And then as you're crossing the bridge from like the main oasis area going over to Pandora, if you look down to the right, there's a dragon thing made out of rocks. And that was supposed to sort of signify part of Beastly Kingdom because there used to be an attraction called Discovery River boats that would go through the canals of Animal Kingdom. And so they had had little tributes to Beastly Kingdom specifically along that like water taxi route. And that was one of the things. There was also this like random cave that they had. Cave thing. Cave. Yeah, where there was supposed supposed to be a dragon living inside that would like breathe fire. And they had that on the boats for a while. And you can still see like where the cave was, all the the fire breathing and M2: Maybe yeah. M1: Other figures are gone, but it's still there. M2: I wish that they had built Beast of the Kingdom if I'm being honest. Okay, my first Animal Kingdom one. So Cali River Rapids, when they were developing the idea for the park, they were actually looking at some of Walt's original concepts too, because Walt loved animals and always wanted to do some sort of safari himself. And that was his idea for Jungle Cruise. He wanted to have real animals beside the jungle cruise. Quickly they realized that would be so infeasible at Disneyland. So they didn't, they did animatronics. But Kilimanjaro Safari realized that idea by actually having animals. Well, Calib River Rapids 2, they wanted to have animals. They wanted to have tigers alongside of it. But again, having animals so close adjacent to a ride system like that, obviously the safari does it, but they just decided it was not going to be something super feasible. And so they ended up kind of converting the concept. But it originally was going to be named something with like tiger in it. M1: Can you imagine? M2: I don't know if it would have had the same effect. I mean, honestly, I've ridden Cali River Rapids so many times frequently. I've been like every trip I'm like for some I'm doing it, I guess 'cause it's hot. And to me, Cali River Rapids needs like a little jeunesse quoi. M1: I agree. It honestly is really short. Like the action it's like you go up and then you're kind of like voop and then you go down. Like it's yeah, I could use a little bit more. M2: Yeah, it is short. It's like it's good, it's fun, but I I don't think Tigers would have done it though if I'm being honest. M1: I agree. So my next one is about a ride, another ride that was supposed to come to Animal Kingdom. And this was going to be called The Excavator. So when they were creating the concept for Dino Land USA, they had this whole backstory. There ended up being an extremely, extremely detailed backstory to Dino Land USA. It's one of the coolest backstories Disney's ever done, and it's honestly very sad that it is now gone. But part of that was going to be this ride called The Excavator. And it was meant to be this like wooden roller coaster where guests would be going through as though they were on like a dinosaur archaeological digging trip, basically. And they'd be part of it. Yes, and they would have been part of it like going on the equipment, excavating. and sadly it also wasn't built because of budgets. And then like over time, as they had to just get something there, it just M2: Which would have been s so cool. M1: it never came to be and they they built Chester and Hester's and stuff instead. M2: The excavator would have been really cool, but I understand that they needed more kid friendly things and also like costs. But I mean we have Everest, so the excavator just didn't M1: It would have Yeah, it's not needed. But it would have been like it's like an iconic lost thing. M2: Yeah, it's so is. Speaking of iconic lost things, this is my we talked about Roman Empire. This is my Roman Empire. Animal Kingdom, Joe Roadie, and his like wanting this park to be so different from other places. This is the most immersive park, and I'll stand by that. Although now things are sort of changing. Like the zootopia thing replacing its stuff to be a bug. Don't get me started. But this is such an immersive park. And he wanted guests to actually feel like they were exploring. The animal kingdom. And so we've kind of talked about in the past how they didn't put a lot of signs up, wayfinding signage on purpose. They want a guest to explore. But even beyond that, they created a path over in Asia. It's not there anymore. And if you think you know what it is, which is like a trail where people used to be able to smoke at, that's not even what it is anymore. Like that's not what it is. People get confused. This is a path literally through the woods behind there's like a picnic table that you can kind of see the old like entrance if you know where to look. But It was a path through the woods through this little bamboo forest. You cross this tiny little stream with these stepping stones, which is one of the only ways you can tell it was ever there. And it is so, so cool because it honestly was not open open for that long. People sort of forgot about it very quickly. Joe Brody has confirmed its existence. He confirmed its existence on Twitter that this did exist. It is now, I mean, it's a hundred percent overgrown and unmarked. It's it was never even marked on a map. And now it is like beyond off limits to guess. Like if you were caught walking back there, you'd have like a big problem. If you were like there used to be a trail here, they'd be like there no. Most people would have no idea what you're talking about. But it is such a cool piece of Animal Kingdom lore. M1: If you were back here you'd get in trouble. Yeah. Okay, we now have two that are like resort random stuff focused. One of these, I feel like, is one of my Roman Empires. Cause again, this was like kind of an early fact I learned, which is that if you've ever thought about the fact that Pop Century is called Pop Century, it only has 50, 50 years. And they called them the legendary years. You can see references to the legendary years at Pop Century, which also like kind of feels random. But it's because. The lake that's next to Pop Century is called Hourglass Lake. And on the other side of Hourglass Lake were going to be the classic years, the 1900s to the 1940s, the first half of the century. and they built some of the buildings for it. They were working on them when 9-11 happened and tourism like completely dropped off. Disney had to stop a lot of stuff. And so those buildings just sat for a really long time, and for ages, everyone was just kind of unsure, waiting for them to build the classic years. Ultimately, they decided when they eventually did come back to it that they weren't going to build the classic years anymore. And they had an idea for a new resort called Art of Animation. And so they built three sections for Art of Animation. Finding Nemo Lying Cars, brand new. They all have indoor facing rooms. But they still had those few buildings they'd started on for the classic years, but the outdoor facing rooms. So they thined that section to Little Mermaid. And that is why. Art of Animation is considered a value resort because those rooms are value style rooms and those rooms are always the cheapest because again, they are like very different than the other rooms at Art of Animation. M2: They also kept the main the hall so they have it's set up exactly like Pop Century, which is another reason it's a true value. The pools are very value level, the food court is very value level. Mouse of One refers to this resort so frequently as a moderate resort. It is drives me cr no, no it's not. No, it's not. It's a value resort with more expensive rooms that are family suite and type things. M1: Yes. 'cause of this. If you walk around the grounds of that resort, it is so much nicer and more plused up than a moderate. You know what? I mean that a value. We are doing a special segment that is hot takes and that should be one of mine. M2: As a food court, it has pools, it has Great, you can add that to your list and everyone can be so surprised. Okay, mine are kind of linked. So I'll do my first one, which is that the Polynesian resort, when Disney was building Walt Disney World, they created the branding of Walt Disney World as Vacation Kingdom because they just had Magic Kingdom and they wanted guests to stay on site for longer. And so they basically built all of these activities like archery and horseback riding and tennis and golf and swimming. And a lot of that was centered around the Seventies Lagoon, which is by Magic Kingdom, and Bay Lake, which is By basically by the campground. They're two connected bodies of water. But one of the things they tried to do on the Seventies Lagoon was create a surfing area for the Polynesian. So you'd be able to surf from kind of in the water, but adjacent to this like island in Seventies Lagoon with these big waves. They had a wave machine that they installed onto the Polynesian beach. And yes, they installed the wave machine. They spent good money on it. Dick Nunes, who's like an iconic Disney executive, he spearheaded this actually. And it barely ever worked. It didn't really work, actually. Had major issues with erosion and issues with the boats passing by. Eventually they just abandoned it in place. now they finally removed the part sticking above the water, but they did remove or they did leave part of the underground area and the old retaining wall. And the best tribute to it is if you go to Disneyland and you find Dick Nunes' window, it mentions the wave machine on his window, which is kind of like a little funny quip because he was so passionate about it. M1: I'm sad for him that it like didn't work. M2: No, I think it was like good for him. He even went and spoke to the d the cast members Eyes and Ears magazine and was like, We know it's not working, but like, no, I I'm proud of him. I'm proud of him for giving it a shot. M1: Okay. My last one is I feel like it's really obvious, but honestly, I like never realized this, which is that when they had decided to create the boardwalk area behind Epcot, which has the boardwalk, the beach club, and the yacht club resorts, I never realized that that was meant to represent like holistically like East Coast beaches. When I think about it individually, I did know that. But like It's supposed to be Atlantic City. That's what the boardwalk is. Then the yacht club is Nantucket. And the beach club like Martha's Vineyard. Something like that. Cape Cod Don't. she's referring to the Martha's Vineyard Vineyard Lounge, if you know you know. Vignette. The Martha's Vineyard Lounge, if you know you know. But yeah, like each of those are holistically meant to represent the sort of different M2: How dare you mention Martha's Vineyard? Vineyard, vineyard, vineyard. M1: vibes of the beaches of the east coast, which I just like had never really realized. M2: Interesting. Yeah, the ar the architect I only knew that from the deep dive where the architect who did them kind of spoke about like the inspiration that came from them. But that is a cool one. M1: Yeah. Even though like I do know the themes of the them individually, so it but I just never a holistic thing, yeah. M2: Yeah, I don't know people think of them as like a a set in general. Yeah. Okay, my last one is about the Grand Floridian Beach Resort, because the Grand Floridian opened in nineteen eighty-eight and it had a huge giant beach area. And they plopped a D V C building on it now, which is crazy to think of as just a kind of empty space before. But the whole point was that you were supposed to be on the shores of a Floridian beach, enjoying the water, enjoying the beach, and then like very shortly after they stop banned swimming at certain times of year because of bacteria in the water. And then eventually like swimming kind of ceased to even be allowed at all. Although you could kind of wade in a little bit for a while through the nineties. And so they ended up renaming it to the from the Grand Floridian Beach Resort to the Gran Floridian Resort and Spa. Is that what it's called now? Yeah. So they renamed it because the beach was no more. Those were actually a lot of those 20 random Disney facts for you. M1: Yes, yes. M2: And if you guys like this type of segment, we could talk for hours on this. But I'm very excited about our special segment. It was a fun little idea we had, so Our special segment today is Disney Court, where we will each be sharing five hot takes and seeing if the jury finds us guilty or cleared of all charges. Meaning that if we think the hot take is garbage, then you're guilty. And if we think it's good, then you're cleared of all charges. And I'm so curious to hear what everyone listening thinks also, so please be sure to share. Do you want to kick it off? M1: Sure, my first is that Chef Mickey's is amazing in every way. M2: Cleared of all charges. I already can say that, but please advocate it for our audience. M1: So many people are Chef Mickey haters. Chef Mickey is, dare I say, the most iconic restaurant on Disney property other than maybe Cinderella's Royal Table. It is quintessential Disney in every way. The vibes in there are amazing being in the like atrium of the contemporary. It's the classic characters in such fun outfits. And for all the people who ate the food, I love the food. If you like classic American food, it's good. M2: Haters. M1: They have roast, they have amazing mashed potatoes. They actually recently redid their menu and they had like a lot more sort of variety. M2: They did take away the cheese cube. So if you're a cheese cube lover like me, then that's a big loss for us. But M1: Yeah, if you like sort of plain cubes of cheese, then those are no more. But I think the food there is really good. I have absolutely no complaints. I love the desserts. Chef Mickey's, for me, ten out of ten, when I feel like most people rate it as like a low ranking. They're crazy for that. M2: People rate it very low, and it's so quintessential Disney. It is the Disney experience to us. cleared of all charges, no question. Okay, let's see what the court thinks about this one. I think that the court listening right now, you is gonna clear me of all charges. And I think everyone else listening is gonna say I'm guilty. I think that Pop Century should be re-themed. And it's such a good segue to what you were talking about because it is only 50 years. M1: Yes. M2: First off, they didn't even build the first half of it, the first fifty decades. So already it feels clunky and awkward. They've mixed in some Disney characters, but it doesn't fully work for me, honestly. I don't think that the d the eighties and the nineties section doesn't really do it for me. I like the seventies, I guess, but I'm like, is this fun? Sure. Would it be even better if it was just themed around Disney movies? Like the art of animation? Yes, it would. M1: It doesn't work at all. Cleared of all charges, 100%. There is a faction of people out there, and listen, I support you guys, who are pop like voyalist stands. They absolutely love pop century. Perhaps they're slightly older than me and can relate more to those themes, which I understand. You know, I was born in the 90s, so I don't really relate to most of the themes there. But I think, like, for me, of pop century. M2: I knew you I knew you would think that. I knew you would think that. M1: All Star music, All Star movies, All Star Sports. I'm obviously not including art of animation 'cause it's not a real value. of those four, the best one by far is All Star Movies because it's just themed to Disney movies. Like one million percent. All Star Sports, like kind of has its own thing. M2: No question. I actually I was gonna say I kinda like the all star sports themes. M1: It's kinda has its own theme thing going on because Dizzy does a lot of stuff with sports teams, so like it makes sense to me. However, all star music. Like calypso. I'm just kind of like, Okay. I don't feel passionate about being in a calypso section. Like meh. I I feel similarly about Pop Sentry. Okay, I'm in the sixties. Mm. M2: But I'm like, here's the thing. I actually I love, I love the fifties. You love the fifties. We love the glorified version of the fifties. Let's talk about that. I love the sixties, I love the seventies, I like the eighties are okay. I mean nineties, whatever, but I like those eras. Other than the big flowers, it doesn't shine through to me. Like I I'm not in prime time. So M1: Yes. No. Yeah, like pr if it was an entire restaurant themed like primetime or an entire resort, amazing. But in po in the forum that Pop Century is, would I rather see a giant bowling pin or a giant like Buzz Lightyear? Buzz Lightyear. Like I just would rather see a Disney thing. M2: Would you rather have here's a true question for you. Would you rather keep pop century exactly the same or let's say the seventies section? Or would you rather re-theme it to a bug's life and have a giant flick? M1: Bugs Life. And that shows you how much I dislike how much I dislike it. M2: And that shows your passion. All right. Well, I think that everyone else is gonna find me guilty on that, but I'm glad at least you agree. M1: thank you. I'll I'll do this as my next one. Art of animation is a value resort. And here's why. M2: Guilty No it's wait, it is a value resort. M1: Sorry. Art of Animation is a moderate resort and allow me to defend myself. M2: That's right. I brought out the boo button. M1: Yes, Art of Animation does have the lobby that matches pop and it has a food court. Okay. Art of Animation's grounds. Go to the cars section of Art of Animation. It feels like you're in a small version of Radiator Springs. There are cars around. There's very immersive theming to make you feel like you're like in a desert. There's the cozy cone area. There's a special cozy cone pool. If you go to the Lion King area, if you go to the Finding Nemo area, the theming there is much deeper than just the random giant props at pop. The buildings have inward facing rooms. That is like they don't even have that at most moderate resorts on Disney property. Yeah. M2: Or even some deluxe. Here's the question for you about this entire discussion since we've beaten this horse dead. Do you think that it feels, and this is gonna decide you're if you're guilty or not? Do you think it feels like a moderate resort, but you recognize the fact that it does fall in the value category? Or are you naive and foolish enough to think that it truly is not a value resort, despite the fact that it is ranked and actually literally is a value resort? No, answer the question. M1: Here's the thing. Nope, I have to say this. I think Disney is tricking people because it is. Because the only rooms there that have a value cost are the Little Mermaid rooms, which are not as nice. And that area is not as nice as the rest of the resort. It's completely fine, but it is value level. 100%. The Little Mermaid area is value level. That's 25% of the resort. 75% of the resort is not at all value level. And the price is okay, but the rooms. M2: The food court. M1: The prices are not value prices. I feel so strongly about this. It's a scam. Disney is tricking you. If you look at art of animation and you wanna say, I my gosh, art of animation is so inexpensive. I want to see it in the cars section. I'm sorry, you can't would you like a little mermaid room? M2: Wow, this might be the thing that you speak most passionately about in the history of this podcast. you're guilty. It is a value resort. Whether or not Disney is tricking you or whatever, it is a value resort. I agree that it has moderate inclinations, but it is a value. Okay, next up. I'm trying to think of one that you won't agree with. But there I just think we're on the same page about so many things. I don't know. I'll see what you think about this. Dining reservations should M1: Mm-hmm. M2: reservation should be given priority to guests staying at the resort. Meaning if you're staying at the Polynesian, you should get priority booking for Ohana and Kona and all those before every other guest like us rolls on in and tries to get them. M1: I I'll say that you're cleared of all charges. I do agree. However, I think it's a challenge because I think that people who aren't really in the know with Disney and stay at resorts expect to be able to be like, hmm, I'd like to have dinner at Ohana tonight and walk up. And unfortunately, I just don't really think that's realistic because you can't do that anywhere at Disney. Like, really. I it's it's unfortunate. But M2: Yeah. M1: I think like I understand them getting a special booking window or something, but like you gotta make reservations when you go to Disney. It's kind of a bummer, but like that's how it is. M2: I guess but I I mean I do think you need to make reservations, but I do think that also if you're staying at a resort and it's so hard for you to get your own reservation there, it just maybe doesn't make sense. M1: No, you should be able to get s your reservation for sure. But like you shouldn't be able to decide the day of like I want to go to Ohana and just like prance up there. Unfortunately, just 'cause the way Disney works. Yeah. M2: No, I don't know. I don't think you should necessarily get to do that, but okay. M1: Okay, my next one is Seven Dwarfs Minds Train is a disappointment. M2: I need to hear more. M1: I think when Disney was actually initially kind of presenting Seven Doors Mind Train, they kind of were framing it as like maybe another mountain. That was back when we had Space Big Thunder and Splash. It was sort of hyped up, like this was gonna be, this was gonna be big. It's the flagship attraction in New Fantasyland, which was a massive deal expansion for Disney. They actually, I just did a video about this, they actually ended up Nixing a lot of other potential projects in order to do this instead. And it was like the thing. I do think the redeeming quality of it is that the part where you like go through basically the little dark ride part, I think is really unique and fun. But as a roller coaster, and I know it's supposed to be a family-friendly roller coaster, but as a roller coaster, I just think it is. M2: like it. I mean I think it is what it it I think it is what it really should be, I guess, which is that it is a family friendly roller coaster in fantasyland. I think that it should have a thirty five minute wait maximum. M1: Yes, that's the other piece of it. It's like a seventy minute wait. You wait seventy minutes for that ride and I think it's a disappointment. You wait twenty five minutes for that ride and you say, That was so fun. M2: Yes. The demand for it still is so insane. When I visited Disney with a girl I knew in college in twenty fifteen, we waited like seventy minutes for that ride. I remember being like, Jeepers creepers. That was a long wait. That was eleven years ago. And still it's that popular. It's smooth. It is really fun. I think it's great. But I I think it's overhyped. And because of that, I think it can be disappointing. Although I think it's fun every time I ride it. But if I waited seventy minutes, my God, I wouldn't. M1: Still. M2: So I think I'm on the fence and I need to hear what the rest of my jury thinks. So everyone help me out. My next one is that I don't think that Starbucks should be the exclusive bakery provider at Disney. M1: Cleared. For sure cleared. M2: Thank you. And I no one else is gonna agree with this either. I like that Joffreys is in the park too. And I I think that's great. But Starbucks, sure. Can Starbucks have a place, I guess. But the fact that they took away all of the amazing bakeries, the Main Street Bakery was one of our favorite places, and they replaced it with Starbucks. M1: Bakeries. Starring roles? Bring it back. M2: How dare they? The only good bakery left is the one at the boardwalk. And that's a statement, like a Disney bakery. M1: One of my like hot takes in life is that Starbucks, for being such a hugely popular chain, their food is so mediocre. I do not understand why they have not invested more into having like better food. Whatever, all the Starbucks food lovers are gonna come for me with their pitch with their pitchforks. I think it's so meh. And so the fact that that like meh meh meh is the exclusive. I'm like, are you joking? M2: The impossible breakfast sandwich, but like Well, they're I think their muffins and their croissants like stink. I don't think they're good at all. Like I like some of their breakfast off like their breakfast sandwich and things. Although I do think that everything I ate there feels like it has one million preservatives in it because I think it does. But I'm like, God, I want to go get an amazing Main Street muffin croissant. And instead I'm eating some yeah, I'm like, I get it. It has a place, but I am not the fact that it replaced all the bakeries. M1: Yes I know. Flaky, fresh chocolate croissant. Sue me. M2: I'm like, Starbucks, do what you do fine, which is coffee, and stay in your lane and let us keep our bakery goods. And we get this weird mishmash. Like the fact that they randomly still sell the carrot cake cookie, which FYI, it's no longer a cookie. It's like a whoopee pie. Used to be an actual cookie. I'm like, Starbucks doesn't make that. It's confusing. And I guess what? When was we probably go in that I don't think we've been in that main street USA Starbucks since like 2023. We never go in there. M1: Yes. I agree. When we would get when we'd occasionally get refreshers from in there. But yeah. Cleared of all charges. I'm curious what you think about this next one. It is that most, not all, but most Disney sit-down restaurants are way too loud. I g M2: Yeah, that's it. Thank you. cleared of all charges. I mean, you know my hearing issue. M1: I go into a Disney restaurant because I need a little break. Disney is amazing, but it is sort of like an a stimulating, perhaps overstimulating sometimes place. And some days I say, I need to kick back and I need to relax in a restaurant and just have a calm meal. And restaurants at Disney are so chaotic and crazy and loud. And I don't really know why, because like, you know, the world has large restaurants. Like I understand Disney's a busy place, but like A full restaurant at Disney versus a full restaurant in New England, for those of you that know. M2: I think every single restaurant in the world is too loud. It's not just Disney. M1: But like sometimes, for example, there's a room at the Brown Derby and a room at Viennapol that when you get placed into those rooms, they're carpeted and they're small and they're quiet. And like it is actually so peaceful and it is the most amazing feeling of all time to be in one of those rooms. And some restaurants, like California grill is not too loud. California grill is fine. I've never felt like it was too loud in there. M2: Good. I mean, could you have provided a more like bougie example? Are you kidding me? M1: Yeah. I can't think of another one. Honestly, I don't really know that I found like Renfleur and Cafe to be too loud. M2: I don't think prime time is too loud. M1: Depends on where you're seated, I think. M2: Yeah. I agree with this take. I have an issue that when there's a lot of noise going on, I can't hear a literal thing. M1: Guys, a server will say something to Mouse Latoo. Mouse too looks at me. I can tell she has no idea what the server just said. Or she'll go, yeah, mm-hmm. M2: I've done it to Mouse Leday too. They'll ask something and I'm just like I Mouse Leday was washing dishes, the sound of the water today. And she said something. And I was like, It sounds like you're the Charlie Brown parents. I know you spoke words. I was like, here's what I heard. Lapsamana And I was like, I can't begin to even think about what you possibly said. I can't hear it. It is too loud. And that's why the bamboo room is so amazing. That's why the back of Via is so amazing. Like, it is too loud. M1: It's rare though, they're just too loud and they need to add more like things that absorb sound or something. Like there are ways to make spaces quiet, ev like, you know, less ambient, even when there's a lot of crowds, and they don't focus on that in their restaurants. And like I really think that it would be a more enjoyable experience when you're in an overstimulating park to get to then go sit down in a more quiet establishment. M2: I felt like this at B R Guest where we've only been once many, many years ago, literally twenty eighteen lore. And we haven't been back since because the menu is so expensive and every time we consider booking it. I'm like, I don't want to sit in what's basically a f well themed quick service restaurant and have a k chaotic experience for seventy five dollars a person. So I feel like B R Guest is like hurt by that. Okay. We have two more each. M1: Yeah, it's too much. You have another one and then we each have one more. M2: Okay, have two more. Great. I have three, so I'm trying to decide. All right, I know you're gonna say I'm wrong on this, but Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind does not fit the theme of Epcot. It's a great roller coaster, but it doesn't fit the theme of Epcot, and they should have put it in Hollywood Studios. M1: So U I don't know, are you guilty? I don't know. It might be a hung jury it might be a hung jury. M2: It doesn't it's an amazing it's an amazing ride, but it does thematically, it's a made up thing. The cosmic generator doesn't exist. I'm learning nothing about energy. It's a made up whimsical thing. Has no place in Epcot. M1: Here's the thing. I think I think they tried to make it fit. M2: They tried their best. They did try their darned hardest. They didn't make it fit, but they did the best that they could with something that has no business being there. M1: Yeah, I think that they tried. However, at its base value, I guess you're cleared of all charges. I love Guardian, so and I I think I mean I'll always miss Ellen's, but like I love having this. However, yeah, I think that they struggled with some, you know, bits. M2: I think it's a great ri the only reason it gets a break is it because it's such a great ride. But at the end of the day, I'm like, What am I doing on this ride? It makes no sense. If they put say a WALLI thing where Mission Space is, at least I'm in space and that thing, I'm like, This has nothing to do with energy. I'm not learning anything about energy. M1: This is one of Maslatooth's big takes. Okay. M2: Silly. This is my yeah, strong opinion. M1: My last one. Disney needs more bathrooms. Disney has so many bathrooms. Yet, let me name some areas of the park where I'm standing and I say, why can I not access a bathroom right now? The right side of Main Street USA when you enter near the lockers. We exit the park to go to the bathroom out there because there's no bathroom right there. You have to go to the Tony's bathroom, which is like two stalls, or you have to go to the other side. That bathroom desert. When you're walking around the world showcase, the fact that M2: I was about to say I was about to say like the The Tony's bathroom is a M1: Every other country has a bathroom. It's not fully that anymore because they've added bathrooms like in the back of France and stuff. But the sort of general rule is it's every other country. Unfortunately, in Epcot, people are drinking, you're hot, you're wandering around. Like there needs to be an ex a bathroom in every country. M2: I'll agree that in Epcot during food and wine, I've been caught in a Germany and a Ch that God forbid you try to use that tiny China bathroom, but the Germany bathroom, the Morocco bathroom, they get Germany specifically. It's brutal. Yeah. M1: The g my god, yes. The line gets Germany's awful. The line gets so long. The bathrooms are crazy. Like there just aren't even though Disney has so many bathrooms, there aren't quite enough for me. M2: I don't know if they need for okay. I I think that I would say for me, I don't think they need necessarily more, but I think every undersized bathroom that they have needs to be expanded. Go M1: Blow like blow it out and make it ten times bigger. When I'm in a little dinky bath bathroom, it's like, M2: you where another kind of When you have to like snake around to the back of Figment to go to that weird bathroom, I'm like M1: yeah, that's no. It's too hidden. I mean I people M2: They need bigger, nicer the Tony's bathroom doesn't work. The Liberty Square ones don't like anything small isn't gonna work. M1: No, even the bathroom, the bathroom that's like in the breezeway between Adventureland and Frontierland. and they have another one like this in Harambay. It's where there's like one side or you can go further and go down the other side. They're so ill contrived. They get so backed up. No, that's one of my least favorite. That's one my least favorites. Because there's not another there needs to be a bathroom a little bit further back, but there isn't, so we always have to come out to that one. It's so ill contrived. M2: Yeah. They're so ill contrived. I don't like that Haramba bathroom. That bathroom's terrible. We use that bathroom a lot. That is maybe my least favorite bathroom on property as I'm thinking about it. You know what bathroom I hate? Over by the Meet Olaf thing in Hollywood Studios. To enter it, I always want to like walk through an area and I have the dead end to reverse. We used to use that bathroom a lot. Yeah, I'll agree in a in a sense, I think some of the bathrooms are just undersized. okay. My last one is I have two, but I'll pick one. Is that the Epcot Future World Transformation doesn't feel complete to me. And well thought thoughts before I. M1: there's yeah. No, I'd say i I'd say I just did a video about this. Keep referencing this video that I just did. No, I'd say you're cleared of all charges. It's it's very sad that we didn't get what we were supposed to get. M2: Spent. Because well, we both are obsessed with that festival center and like I wish they built that. But even aside from that. M1: If you don't know what we're talking about, there's sh there was supposed to be a three story festival center, like in the center of what is now a world celebration. It would have been amazing. M2: And it was gonna be amazing. And I I look at the pieces of what they did and I'm like, here's an example. The DVC rooms are refurbished on a seven year cycle. Ever so seven years they do a soft kind of overlay. They swap out some thematic things, but they don't do a full replacement. And then the seven years after that, they do a full replacement basically. So it's a 14 year cycle. In my mind, this one felt like a little refreshed. I like the Moana thing. I'm like, that's good. And I like that they added the original fountain back to the front and took away the legacy things, which were a little bit brutal. I'm like, okay. I like the world celebration main area with a Walt statue. I'm like, this is good. But it just feels like stuff that took them so freaking long, so long. And I look at them like this isn't that different. And the fact that they're saying it's done, and even your fact about the left brain, right brain thing, I'm like, I like, I like that fact and I like what they did, but Epcot still feels dated to me. M1: Yeah. M2: Wonders of life is abandoned. All of the future world area, I'll still call it future world because that entire area discovering nature celebration. I'm like this felt like you did it in a year for five million dollars and you did it in like six years for like a hundred million dollars. And I can't understand how that's possible. M1: No, I'd you're cleared of all charges. It wasn't really a transformation. And unfortunately, COVID had a huge impact on this. And like they just sort of it was horrible timing. But like the seas is dingy. The land is dated. Figman is like beyond dated. Mission space is dated. Test Yeah, Spaceship Earth is dated. Like all those are dated. The beauty the center area is beautiful, but honestly, I liked the old center area of Apcot. I had like no qualms with it. M2: Mission space is dated. Test rock finally got a refurb. Spaceship Earth is dated. M1: Yes, they needed to deal with like interventions and stuff, but those are really good. M2: I'll say connections and creations, those are really good. That side, Communiqueur Hall, meh I I think they've done better with it these days, but them taking away a segment of it and putting in that stage, I'm like M1: Communicor hall is a complete man that the little state Yeah, the stage where they do the like in Kanto show is so random. Like it's fine, but M2: I'm like, okay, but nothing's pulling it together and like M1: No, if you look at the original vision, which again I just did a video on so you can watch that. It was supposed to be so much more and like really put life back into the park. And they just weren't really able to do that. And it's very sad. You're cleared of all charges. M2: Very fresh in your mind. Thank you. And that was Disney Court, everybody. if you like this topic, let us know because I have many others that I were kind of eyeballing. So all right, let's wrap up with a pit and a peach of the week. M1: Start with pits. My pit is that the Micklet. we are trying to sleep train him in a way that he can lay down in his crib when he's sleepy and then fall asleep on his own rather than us having to like fully rock him every night. And it's just like not going well at all. And every night bedtime takes literally forever. He can't really nap on his own. He has to be in our arms. And I'm just kind of like. Would love for him to be able to go to sleep a little bit more so that some of those things can be like relief. M2: And he also got stung by a bee in his eye. M1: my god, that was my real pit. He got stung by a Bianca's eyelid. It was awful. Mouse let's see wasn't home. M2: Luckily though luckily though, he's not alert I mean, he sw was swollen, but he's not allergic to bees. So at least you found that out. M1: Yeah, we found out he's not allergic, but yes, that was very stressful. That was my real pit. M2: okay, I have two pits. One of my pits is that we had this big water issue at our house and they had to dig up like a huge part of our driveway and rip up a bunch of grass today and do this whole replacement thing. Luckily, Mouse Leday dealt with all of it. Sort of a peach that I wasn't really involved in the whole process. So a bit of a pit and a peach. but that's my pit. My other pit, this makes me so angry. This is like and I've talked about this before. I was I took a late train home today. Today is Tuesday when we're recording this. I took a late train home. And so I was standing in the train station and I was like, I'm kind of hungry. And there was like a dunk in there, whatever. And there's a woman there who's homeless. And she's kind of calling out. She's please, please, can someone buy me some food? Please, I'm so hungry. Please, someone buy me some food. And there's a whole line of people, they're all ignoring her. And it nothing makes me more. I'm like, I understand that people don't always carry cash if someone's asking for money. But I'm like, this woman is sitting in front of a Dunkin' Donuts. You're all in line, begging for food. And there was a man with her too. And so I got in line and I got her food and I got her. She wanted two wake up wraps and a coffee. And I got myself two mini bagels as well. Figured I was in line. and the it was nice. The Duncan guy was like, is this all for you? And I No. I said, No, the bagels are for me. I thought he was gonna like separate, I don't know, to see if I want it in the same bag. I said the bagels are for me, everything else is for her. And I guess he knows her and when he can, he'll give her like a coffee. so she wants M1: You're obsessed with bagels. Well that's nice. M2: She wanted a coffee with like a lot of sugar. And I was like, I want to make sure he understood. He goes, no, I know her. And then he gave me a discount. He took, he did a little like worker discount on the things for her, which I thought, not on my bagels, but which is fine. but it makes me so yeah, it was yes. But I'm like, and I was talking to her and she was like, She's been homeless for 16 years. She was like, It's just been really hard times. And I'm like, the fact that she can be sitting there asking for food and all of these sicklos in line. M1: That was nice. M2: most of which people are commuting to their job in like business clothes and I know that they could buy her something makes me so angry. That was my pet. M1: That is a pit. my peach is that the Mikelet has started trying solids. So yesterday he had carrots and today he had sweet potatoes, and it's so cute and like so fun to get to do that. M2: That's fun. I want to see that. my peach is that Mouse Lidd dealt with this entire situation with the water line and the plumber and the shit. My neighbor, there's a whole story to that. the she has to get an electrician, and I've just been hanging out in Boston out shopping. She's been dealing with it. thank God. That's my that's my peach. okay. Let's wrap up with a fact of the day. We shared M1: She did. The waters the water your neighbors yes. My pit is then I have to think of another fact. M2: I was gonna say we shared so many facts. Let's do a Disneyland fact. That'll be good 'cause we're about to go to Disneyland for D twenty three. M1: and I actually just thought of a Disney World fact. M2: Okay, I'll do a Disneyland fact and then you do one as well after. Disneyland used to have these iconic, beautiful. This is a pit for me that they took these away. Mary Blair mosaic like art mural type things on the second story of Tomorrowland, basically. And when they refurbished Tomorrowland, don't get me started, but when they refurbished Tomorrowland, they covered them up and they are sort of behind there, but they demolished a lot of one. It's been confirmed that one of them is unsalvageable and the other one is like missing a lot of chunks in his horrible condition as well. Sick of them. How could they not at least try to preserve them? So insane to me. it's awful. Clear clearly. So that's my fact of the day. M1: Yeah, I don't know why. Clearly like the archives and stuff wasn't what it is now because Okay, wait, I'll do one related to that, which is that the Disney Archives, which if you don't know, Disney has a whole branch called the Disney Archives, and it's their job to document and maintain all the pieces of Disney history. So things with the parks and things with movies and everything goes through the archives and they have like very, very rigorous systems and where you can go back and see, you know, original animation and and everything is tracked and documented. But it actually started just because of like a guy at the Disney company. Who was something, I don't remember what, but something was getting thrown out. And he was like, wait, like, I feel like this shouldn't be thrown out. This is like a piece of history. And he started kind of like on the side of whatever his actual job was, collecting this stuff and doing it. And he ended up starting the archives. But if it wasn't for the archives being started like that, Disney wouldn't have really had this like, yeah, which is w insane to me that they ever were not documenting it. But when you think about most companies, like, I don't know, like my company certainly doesn't document everything they've ever done. It's like M2: Crazy. My company has something called the Iron Mountain where we send all of our old papers and they store them for a certain amount of time and then they it's a r it's a big company that we but we don't really use that much paper anymore. We used to use even when I started it we did everything on paper. Now we do everything like digitally or online on a computer. M1: Yeah, my company like doesn't have anything like that. Disney was just a company, but yeah, this guy started the archives and thank God he did, or else we would have seen many more things, see the fate of those Mary Blair mur murals. M2: Love you, King.
