Transcript
- 0:00Yo welcome back to Banner with the Boys, Fast Lapse, Monaco Recap, Kanada Preview, uh, let's
- 0:24just get right into it.
- 0:25Joe right next to me, co-host.
- 0:26Joe what's going on?
- 0:27How's it going?
- 0:28How's it going?
- 0:29Happy to be here.
- 0:30Happy to talk about Kanada.
- 0:32You don't sound super happy to be here, good lord.
- 0:35I know it was a boring race, but look, look.
- 0:37Cole, how's your week been buddy?
- 0:39Good.
- 0:40I mean the Tuesday curse is back.
- 0:42The Tuesday curse is back.
- 0:43True.
- 0:44Rain.
- 0:45Right, rain to give.
- 0:46We get one freebie?
- 0:47Yeah, that's all we get every Tuesday.
- 0:49I just decided now I'm wearing rain jackets.
- 0:51Oh there you go.
- 0:52Gotta be prepared.
- 0:53And of course next to Cole obviously we got Tyler.
- 0:55Tyler what's poppin'?
- 0:57Not much man, not much.
- 0:58Just excited for an actual race here upcoming.
- 1:02Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 1:04He says actual race because we had an event this past weekend.
- 1:08The Monaco Grand Prix race, not much to talk about actually to be honest with you.
- 1:15I don't think we'll spend a ton of time on the recap this week, but obviously plenty
- 1:20that we do have to mention.
- 1:22The number one thing obviously being Leclerc.
- 1:25Getting his home win.
- 1:26I mean how cool is that?
- 1:28Like I'm not a fan of a team or anything specific, but I mean still.
- 1:35I don't hate Ferrari, but that was pretty neat.
- 1:37Yeah that was sweet.
- 1:39It was sweet just watching him finally actually convert a pole at Monaco.
- 1:42His heart didn't let him down.
- 1:44The weather didn't let him down.
- 1:46He had that race won before it started.
- 1:48The Monaco time trials that is, because that's all it was.
- 1:51It was just time trials.
- 1:52It was the most boring race I've ever actually watched.
- 1:55At least last year we had what Joe, 22 overtakes I think it was.
- 1:58Was it 22 overtakes?
- 2:00I just know it was a lot of rain.
- 2:03Just a lot of weird stuff happening.
- 2:05Because of the weather.
- 2:06It was such a boring race.
- 2:08I mean all the drivers even came out and said it's such a boring race.
- 2:12They were just complaining left and right.
- 2:13Well that's just it right?
- 2:15It's so boring.
- 2:16Does it stay on the schedule?
- 2:19I mean it's Monaco.
- 2:21It's one of the inaugural races.
- 2:22It's the only one left from the inaugural six.
- 2:25And we'll get into it in news because I don't want to just ask you guys what can they change.
- 2:29So we'll get into that to make it more interesting whatever it may be.
- 2:33But yeah, obviously Charles with the podium, or with the win actually, obviously.
- 2:38Ferrari with the podium sweep I guess you could say.
- 2:42Carlos coming in in third.
- 2:44And I think we talked about too, I think we all kind of predicted Charles taking the pole
- 2:48this race.
- 2:49Oh yeah.
- 2:50Yeah.
- 2:51It did happen.
- 2:52It did happen in the race and I don't know if this was like super far after or right
- 2:55after, but Charles riding home.
- 2:56He was hometown on a bicycle.
- 2:59Was he really?
- 3:00I did not see that.
- 3:01It was a video of somebody recording him.
- 3:02I'd imagine you'd be like surrounded, like people following him and stuff, but it's his
- 3:09home.
- 3:10It's a small city.
- 3:11Yeah, it's a city.
- 3:12It's a small country.
- 3:13But you could tell the pride they took in that.
- 3:16You know the citizens, the pride they took in it.
- 3:18And what is it?
- 3:19The president?
- 3:20The Prince Albert.
- 3:21The Prince of...
- 3:22Yeah dude, that dude was amped.
- 3:24Seeing him part of the champagne and stuff.
- 3:27Yeah, the podium ceremony, the best part of the race in my opinion.
- 3:30We were talking about it, just seeing the emotion from Charles, seeing everyone so excited.
- 3:34Yeah, it was really nice to break that curse and get him his win in his hometown.
- 3:40Even the marshals.
- 3:41The marshals were getting emotional after the win after he won because the marshals
- 3:44are all local guys so they just get hired for the weekend or whatever it is.
- 3:48They were getting emotional, hugging each other.
- 3:50They were in tears.
- 3:51It was just cool to see.
- 3:52They were taking pictures.
- 3:53It was just a good time.
- 3:54And I mean even with what, two laps to go I think Charles said at the end.
- 3:58He was like, he said quote, with two laps to go I was like F Charles, calm down.
- 4:06Like, you know, you can handle this pretty much.
- 4:08He knew how big it meant to him.
- 4:10And then obviously the interview after the race about his dad and just how he gave up
- 4:14everything for him to have this opportunity.
- 4:16I mean I just can't even imagine how he honestly feels about even today, you know.
- 4:23Just winning the race where we see Bugatti Verons on yachts.
- 4:27Did anybody else catch that?
- 4:29Oh yeah.
- 4:30Oh good.
- 4:31What a flex.
- 4:32Whoa!
- 4:33But typical Monaco.
- 4:34I mean this is something to be said about Carlos finishing third too.
- 4:38I mean that's a great showing from Carlos as well.
- 4:41Just trying to figure out where he's going next year.
- 4:44Just keep showing up.
- 4:45That's all you can do really.
- 4:47Let's talk about Carlos really quick.
- 4:49That puncture on lap one.
- 4:51There's a lot of fans out there that are a little irritated with where he was able to
- 4:56get back to on the grid.
- 4:59Now was it because they didn't actually complete a lap?
- 5:02No, so what the ruling is, so I looked into it a little bit.
- 5:05What the ruling is, is every car that is capable has to actually pass you.
- 5:09For you to.
- 5:11Yeah, so well it's from when like the red flag is established.
- 5:15Right?
- 5:16So every car has to pass you where you're at for you not to get your place back.
- 5:21And there's a lot of speculation on if every car did pass him.
- 5:24There's like camera angles that'll come out, picture, photo shots of it.
- 5:27Not including the cars involved in the red flag.
- 5:29Correct.
- 5:30Any car that can continue.
- 5:31Right?
- 5:32So the three cars that were involved obviously they're excluded from that.
- 5:34But it's, I don't know, it was like even, it was Jensen Button after the race, like
- 5:39when he was interviewing him, was just like you're lucky that you got to start back in
- 5:43P3.
- 5:44That is a wild thing to say too, by the way.
- 5:46But it's accurate.
- 5:47But it's not wrong.
- 5:48It's like there's a good amount of speculation on that of like is he, was it right for him
- 5:53to start back P3 when every car had lapped him?
- 5:56Not lapped him, passed him.
- 5:58Yeah, it's really interesting.
- 5:59I feel like we've seen this happen before where a red flag has come out in the first
- 6:02lap and the restart goes back to what the starting grid was.
- 6:07But the other times I've seen it happen, it's because we haven't passed that first sector
- 6:11yet.
- 6:12So there's like no like timing to any of the cars really for them to be in another position.
- 6:19So it's interesting.
- 6:20I like hearing, I'm happy that you looked it up.
- 6:22It's interesting hearing that.
- 6:23Yeah, I don't, I feel like every car had to have passed him.
- 6:27I mean, he was in the runoff area.
- 6:29So I don't know when the red flag came out.
- 6:30The red flag came out late I feel like.
- 6:32And that's why I guess there's some.
- 6:33And now it wasn't quite through all that garbage yet.
- 6:35The red flag came out when Leclerc was getting to that like big chicane part, right?
- 6:42Yeah, so I think that's where like the I guess there was some confusion on my part is like
- 6:47is it when the red flag like waves when they declared a red flag is like when the yellow
- 6:51goes because I mean there wasn't really a yellow it was like all right this is obviously
- 6:55going to be a red.
- 6:56So I don't really know there's some there's so much gray area with it because at the end
- 7:00of the day it's it's an eye that has to catch it.
- 7:03Right.
- 7:04It's like yeah they can use computers and all that jazz but it's a judgment call by
- 7:07the FIA at the end of the day.
- 7:09Yeah, for sure.
- 7:11I mean yeah I mean that's I mean that's all you can really say about it right.
- 7:16I mean they can't go back and change the results right at this point.
- 7:19That's too late right.
- 7:20No.
- 7:21Yeah.
- 7:22How often would that have happened?
- 7:23And we'll jump into it later around where the points line up but that means a huge point
- 7:27swing for Ferrari for him to get third.
- 7:28100%.
- 7:29It would have been a huge point swing for you know McLaren.
- 7:34I guess you could say Mercedes that doesn't really matter but Verstappen too.
- 7:37I mean six versus fifth.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:40I mean.
- 7:41Yeah.
- 7:42Not because he got third now.
- 7:43And then Ferrari as a team as a whole you know.
- 7:46It's what third is 15 points?
- 7:4818.
- 7:49Isn't second eight.
- 7:51No third is 15.
- 7:52Yeah yeah yeah.
- 7:53Yeah so I mean that's 15 points for Ferrari as a team for Carlos in his standings like
- 7:57that's huge because I mean if he goes to the back of the pack he's obviously not getting
- 8:00top 10.
- 8:01You're just not passing anybody.
- 8:02No most likely not.
- 8:03Not even sniffing.
- 8:04Yeah.
- 8:05So no big big deal on the points again like Cole said we'll touch on that in a minute.
- 8:10Let's just move right into McLaren if anybody unless anybody has any parting thoughts on
- 8:15Ferrari but I mean I think we pretty much covered it.
- 8:17I think the biggest thing is like we can't take it away from Charles right.
- 8:20It was a boring race.
- 8:21Yeah but at the end of the day he won that race by qualifying.
- 8:25He did what he had to do to win the race.
- 8:26So it's like all props to Charles man.
- 8:28It was really cool to see.
- 8:29And by decent margin two tenths I think he got it.
- 8:31So in qualifying.
- 8:32In qualifying yeah.
- 8:33He deserved it.
- 8:34His Q3 qualifying lap was just silly.
- 8:35It was great.
- 8:36Yeah.
- 8:37No winning Monaco is still a big deal.
- 8:38It's still a race you'd want to win especially being your home track.
- 8:42They say everyone wants to win Monaco.
- 8:44So yeah no the fact that we're saying it's a boring race absolutely should not take away
- 8:47from what was done.
- 8:50And I mean we talked about if Verstappen took we thought that he was pole.
- 8:54We thought Verstappen second.
- 8:56Maybe that's the only way that passed.
- 8:57But I mean still he did everything he earned.
- 8:59He did everything he did you know.
- 9:00He put in.
- 9:01100% he earned it.
- 9:02He raced a clean lap or a clean race.
- 9:03100% he earned it.
- 9:04And we're iffy on if Carlos earned third or not but another guy that we know earned his
- 9:09spot is Oscar dude at second.
- 9:11What a weekend.
- 9:12What a race.
- 9:13What a weekend for Oscar dude.
- 9:15That dude is becoming more and more consistent week by week finishing in front of Landau
- 9:19this week obviously qualifying for him too.
- 9:21But I mean what a drive from Oscar dude.
- 9:25And it's starting to like I said it's starting to happen every week.
- 9:28I think we got good things coming from him this next weekend too.
- 9:31It's kind of crazy too is with LeClaire the gap he had to pay Astri and how close and
- 9:34X3 were.
- 9:35Yeah for sure.
- 9:36No LeClaire ran away with it at the end but.
- 9:42Any other track Astri doesn't sit there though.
- 9:44Obviously it's Monaco you know.
- 9:46I don't know what the way that McLaren is right now.
- 9:49How close the race was though.
- 9:51I get you.
- 9:52With Sians.
- 9:53But you also but like the Monaco is not designed like that's not McLaren's track.
- 9:57I get that.
- 9:58I get that.
- 9:59I don't know I just.
- 10:00I feel like last it's hard to tell because last year only half the year they were really
- 10:05good and it was Oscar's rookie year so he was still you know in that rookie stage granted
- 10:10amazing rookie year.
- 10:12But I think this year we're really seeing like him comfortable in a car going the pace
- 10:18he has.
- 10:19Obviously he was better at this track than Landau was.
- 10:22I don't think there's any argument against that.
- 10:25I'm really excited to see him just in other tracks to see like where else he excels.
- 10:29I just think in general he's really good at Monaco and it just it just happens to be a
- 10:33good track for him.
- 10:34In practice he was getting he was one of the people that was getting so close to that wall
- 10:38and in swimming pool I think they call it.
- 10:40He's super comfortable.
- 10:42I am when when I saw Landau I ever since Landau got into McLaren I've like and I've seen him
- 10:50like his first season I've always said that's a future like champion like that's Landau.
- 10:55I'm seeing the same kind of things out of Oscar right now.
- 10:57Like his his rookie season was amazing.
- 11:00His second season is going super well.
- 11:02Like I just I see it out of him.
- 11:04I think he's going to have more really good races and nothing to take away.
- 11:07Obviously with second there he earned that as well.
- 11:09Oh yeah.
- 11:10Just like everybody else in the positions they all earned those positions right.
- 11:13But I don't know.
- 11:15Yeah I think I think he is stepping up.
- 11:17He is obviously proving himself.
- 11:21He's just not there yet.
- 11:22He's not a consistent he's not a consistent top three yet but he's getting there.
- 11:26He's getting there ever more so by the end of the year he could be.
- 11:29Who is really consistent top three this year.
- 11:31Well I think we're going to see one of the Ferrari's Max obviously.
- 11:36He's had not yet.
- 11:37He's got what seven races.
- 11:39He's finished outside the top three and two of them.
- 11:42I would still be pretty confident with him finishing in the top three.
- 11:46But Oscar's been consistently top six top five.
- 11:49I would say Norris is more obviously not you can't say they're consistently at top three
- 11:53every week but like that's more somebody if you're going to put your money on you put
- 11:55on Norris.
- 11:56I'd say that then one of the Ferrari's like that's what you're looking at.
- 11:59So he's not up there where he's consistently every week being able to compete for the top
- 12:03three.
- 12:04He's not there yet.
- 12:05But he is obviously you just said this rookie season last year this season he's showing
- 12:09a ton of improvement.
- 12:10I think he could get there by the end of the year where he's fighting with Norris more.
- 12:13He's fighting more for that top dog seat you know more competition there.
- 12:17It's gonna be fun to see how that unfolds next couple years.
- 12:19I think he's closer you think because even the race that Lando won Oscar started P2.
- 12:24He did.
- 12:25I think he finished he's like in terms of head to head quality this year with Lando
- 12:28they're like neck and neck.
- 12:30That's it right there.
- 12:31I think so head to head quality and start of the race Oscars there.
- 12:36I don't think he's proven himself later in the race and with tire management we saw it
- 12:39in Miami he was starting to fall behind like and Lando was keeping his pace up.
- 12:43I think so like the maturity I think he still needs to get.
- 12:46But I think like he's super close to Lando right now.
- 12:49I just don't think in the latter parts of the of the race he's there.
- 12:52Like I said end of the season I think we see them competing a lot more.
- 12:56Right now he's not there but he's throwing a ton of improvement.
- 12:58Yeah a hundred percent.
- 12:59Yeah ever since he's had a car underneath him he's been so good.
- 13:02Top five top six driver on the track.
- 13:04He's the Russell from McLaren.
- 13:05A hundred percent.
- 13:07And still finishing second I mean you still got to drive well enough in quality to even
- 13:12get that opportunity and not to go back on what you said but when you said like if it
- 13:16was another track you don't know if you would have been you know in second per se or whatever
- 13:19been there.
- 13:21But I mean at the same time everybody's managing tires and crap like that at Monaco.
- 13:26I just think Monaco is it's an own its own anomaly.
- 13:29You know what I mean.
- 13:31You can't compare I get it.
- 13:32Yeah yeah.
- 13:33So I think you know looking forward I agree with you.
- 13:36I think he's gonna battle Lando but I think he's gonna battle the Ferraris too.
- 13:39I think he's gonna be right there in the conversation for podiums.
- 13:43A hundred percent.
- 13:46I think he's consistent at top five right now.
- 13:48Oh yeah.
- 13:49That I agree with.
- 13:50I don't think he's battling every week for podiums.
- 13:52But I think you know I think both both McLarens have an opportunity to continue to beat out
- 13:57Checo.
- 13:58I don't know what's going on obviously this weekend was a little different.
- 14:01Not necessarily his fault.
- 14:02Is it?
- 14:03No qualifying it was his fault.
- 14:04Qualifying was his fault.
- 14:05Qualifying was his fault.
- 14:06The race situation was not his fault but being starting where he was was completely his own.
- 14:10Right nothing happened.
- 14:11He didn't nothing happened to him in qualifying.
- 14:13He just didn't qualify well right.
- 14:14He had not got a Q1.
- 14:16Yeah.
- 14:17He had a really bad quality.
- 14:19Let's go right into Red Bull.
- 14:20Obviously Max finishing what he finished P6 I think it was.
- 14:24But let's talk about Checo.
- 14:27Why is he struggling so much dude?
- 14:29I mean this is a track where like Tyler alluded to earlier it's literally a time trial man.
- 14:34And if you know he's still a skilled driver.
- 14:37But he just couldn't get it done.
- 14:39I don't think that Red Bull is where it was.
- 14:42Well a hundred percent.
- 14:43I mean we saw that.
- 14:44To be honest with you I think.
- 14:45If Max is finishing second then we know the car is not quite there.
- 14:47I think the biggest thing is Mr. Newey not giving him all their time anymore.
- 14:51Ever since he departed that car has gone down the road.
- 14:54I wouldn't have expected such a quick decline.
- 14:56Do you think it's just a morality thing?
- 14:58He was still in the red bull gear.
- 15:00So it's just a morality thing maybe.
- 15:01I don't know but if he's not both feet in.
- 15:06I think Newey is the driving force behind Red Bull's success and I think that's playing
- 15:10out in front of our eyes right now with him not full dedication to Red Bull.
- 15:14So two follow ups to that.
- 15:16Do you think this affects Verstappen maybe leaving to another team?
- 15:20And two do you not see Red Bull taking the constructors this year?
- 15:24And I guess we can get into that in the standings.
- 15:26I'll say the second one we'll get into later.
- 15:28I don't think Max has a choice but to be in a Red Bull this year because there's no better
- 15:31spot.
- 15:32Like where's he going to go?
- 15:33Mercedes?
- 15:34At least for next season.
- 15:35Yeah.
- 15:36You know for next year I think if he's going to make a change it's 2026 with the new regs.
- 15:41Newey was staring down that McLaren card hard.
- 15:43And he was talking to Zach.
- 15:45The red flag.
- 15:46They showed him or whatever and he's just mean mugging the McLaren.
- 15:50Dude he's just studying that card so hard right now.
- 15:53Before the race there was conversations with him and Zach.
- 15:58Really?
- 15:59They were walking around the course together, chatting.
- 16:00There's a ton of photos of that.
- 16:03You McLaren fanboys would be jumping off the house.
- 16:06You know what's crazy?
- 16:07This is going to sound crazy and you guys can call me crazy for saying it.
- 16:10I almost feel like I'm going to like McLaren less if Newey goes there.
- 16:13Just because I always have a thing for underdogs.
- 16:16If McLaren's jump to the top and they get to the pace Max is at, I don't know man.
- 16:21It'll make me want to root for other people.
- 16:23This is also like the point of an underdog story.
- 16:26The point of an underdog story is to get somebody to build a team.
- 16:29It's like if you watch any sports movie.
- 16:32But McLaren's already kind of there.
- 16:34They're building their team.
- 16:35But every team, no matter what facet it is, no matter what sport it is, it's about okay
- 16:39a coach steps in.
- 16:40Somebody steps in to change the tide from a team that's growing to a team that's great.
- 16:45You're adding, do you watch NFL at all?
- 16:47No.
- 16:48Do you know who Tom Brady is?
- 16:49Yeah.
- 16:50You're adding Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and leading them to a Super Bowl home slice?
- 16:53Sure.
- 16:54That's a very good analogy.
- 16:55I just want it to come from Lando and us.
- 17:00Obviously it's not all the drivers, it's the team behind it.
- 17:06I don't think I'm going to be that upset.
- 17:07Let's just get that straight.
- 17:08If they wanted constructors you would be happy.
- 17:11I'm just going to have in the back of my mind, it's like they wouldn't be here without Nui.
- 17:14And that sucks.
- 17:15Yeah, but you got to think of it this way though too Joe.
- 17:18But would you rather see this, him go to Ferrari and Ferrari wins the next six World Championships
- 17:22and McLaren doesn't have a chance?
- 17:23No, I would hate that too.
- 17:24You know what I'm saying?
- 17:25So whatever he goes he's going to give him the extra edge.
- 17:28So if you had to pick, you'd rather him go to Nui than McLaren.
- 17:30I'd rather go to McLaren.
- 17:31Yeah, I think at the end of the day I want him to go to McLaren.
- 17:33I just know I have that in the back of my head.
- 17:36I just hope I don't start resenting McLaren.
- 17:37It would be super dope to see Lando or even Oscar get one or two more wins this year.
- 17:42Just so they can kind of show like, hey we don't necessarily, I don't think McLaren
- 17:46has a chance of winning the constructors or one of them winning the WDC.
- 17:49I just think Ferrari and Red Bull are just still right there.
- 17:52It's going to be too much of a battle.
- 17:54And so it would be interesting to see if Nui went there man.
- 17:57It would be crazy.
- 17:59The orange Red Bull.
- 18:00The orange Red Bull.
- 18:02Let's talk about Red Bull real quick.
- 18:04Not a ton to say.
- 18:05I feel like we don't talk about Red Bull that much because either they're winning or they're
- 18:09underperforming for what they are.
- 18:11But has anybody, I know it's only Tuesday and the race was literally two days ago, but
- 18:16has anybody heard about any upgrades coming for Red Bull at all?
- 18:21Not this next race, not this next weekend, but the weekend after I think they have some
- 18:24upgrades coming.
- 18:25Spain, they got upgrades coming.
- 18:26So yeah, we'll talk about this when we get into Canada, but I think we might have another
- 18:30interesting Canada race.
- 18:31I'm hoping.
- 18:32Oh?
- 18:33I'm hoping.
- 18:34I'm hoping then.
- 18:35Yeah, no.
- 18:36And I'll mention that other two Canada.
- 18:37No, I feel you.
- 18:38All right.
- 18:39Anyway, Haas.
- 18:40We'll just mention them really quick because they're kind of in the same boat as Red Bull
- 18:44at least for this race.
- 18:45This is K-Meg.
- 18:47Did he really need to do that?
- 18:49Push it?
- 18:50At the same time.
- 18:51Now let me really do this.
- 18:53When I first watched, I was like, what an idiot, dude.
- 18:55For sure.
- 18:56100%.
- 18:57But at the same time, there's no passing opportunities at Monaco.
- 19:01So you had what you think is an opportunity anyway to pass a Red Bull at Monaco and he
- 19:06decided to take it.
- 19:07Obviously it didn't work out.
- 19:08But you know, if you see the onboard camera of Sergio, he definitely looks in his mirror
- 19:13right before K-Meg tries to shoot the gap that's not existing because the cars are too
- 19:18wide for Monaco and blah, blah, blah.
- 19:20But was that worth it?
- 19:22Like if he gets past him, is it worth it then?
- 19:25Never in 100 years are you going to complete that pass.
- 19:28You're just not.
- 19:29You're not going to complete that pass at Monaco because then they're going into like
- 19:33you, you, you, there's not enough room to complete the overtake on the outside before
- 19:36you have to take that inside corner and you're not, you're just not going to get around him.
- 19:40You're not, you can't run too wide at Monaco.
- 19:42And no penalties for that?
- 19:43I think a driver that's already borderline facing suspension and you're not going to
- 19:48get him, give him, I mean that, that seems like an easy decision for me.
- 19:51I think the problem is that there was a gap.
- 19:55He's trying to go jet skiing with Checo.
- 19:57Yeah, he is and you got to go for the gaps, right?
- 20:00It closed incredibly quickly and it ruined three cars races.
- 20:04I think because it ruined Nico's race that maybe it's, maybe something should have probably
- 20:10happened.
- 20:11But like it, I, Checo also could have given him more space.
- 20:14He could have.
- 20:15I see, I saw after the race, people starting to actually side with K-Mag.
- 20:19I'm not, I just saw it.
- 20:20Jeremy Clarkson did.
- 20:21Yes.
- 20:22I'm, yeah, I wasn't going to name names.
- 20:23Yes, exactly.
- 20:24He, he started siding.
- 20:26I saw a few other F1 reporters were siding as well.
- 20:30I'm happy with it being a racing incident.
- 20:31I think it sucks that Hulkenberg got involved as well.
- 20:35As he said, quote, damn it.
- 20:36If a penalty was to be given out, are we in a grant that's probably K-Mag that would get
- 20:41it?
- 20:42Yeah.
- 20:43If you have to give a penalty, I think it has to be K-Mag, but I like how, I like no
- 20:45penalty.
- 20:46Yeah.
- 20:47Let him race.
- 20:48Ruben's racing.
- 20:49I think Sergio did give him kind of a light block there, but like at the same time, I
- 20:51just don't think that gap was there.
- 20:52Ruben's racing.
- 20:53Let him race.
- 20:54That's something to light it up a little bit, huh?
- 20:56You should be watching NASCAR on Sundays of Ruben's racing, buddy.
- 20:58Not millions of dollars worth of damage.
- 21:01Red Bull can afford it.
- 21:02Yeah.
- 21:03They can afford sites.
- 21:04They were saying-
- 21:05They can afford to have Sergio wreck his whip.
- 21:08They were saying that crash hurt them.
- 21:12That's going to delay a few upgrades, I think, for him.
- 21:15I bet.
- 21:16Most teams budget about one to $2 million worth of damage for the year.
- 21:20That's what they budget for the-
- 21:21For the entire season?
- 21:23For the team, for their entire- that's both cars for the entire season.
- 21:26It's estimated that that was going to cost Red Bull $2.3 million alone.
- 21:28I was hostile in business.
- 21:31It's not what Williams had to do.
- 21:34Not only is it the financial implication, but now like Joe said, now you have to rebuild
- 21:38all those parts, so the parts you're going to- the time you're spending on upgrading
- 21:41what you currently have, now you're spending on rebuilding so you can get a car on the
- 21:45track.
- 21:46They have spare parts, obviously, but that's a whole- that's a spare car at this point
- 21:50with the condition that car was in.
- 21:52Rough.
- 21:53Rough, to say the least.
- 21:54I was curious what they'd do with all those parts.
- 21:56They were piling them up.
- 21:57I was like-
- 21:58They sent them to Africa for the kids that get the shirts that, you know?
- 22:02The Super Bowl shirts of the losers?
- 22:04Yeah, no, as Hulkenberg said, quote, damn it, that was unnecessary.
- 22:09I'll just go ahead and agree with him there.
- 22:12I don't think he needed to do it.
- 22:14Watching that live was crazy.
- 22:15Or, not watching the replay back, because K-Meg literally was driving him into the wall.
- 22:21That did not look like an F1 car after it was gone.
- 22:24No, dude.
- 22:25That was a hard hit, though.
- 22:26That was a hard hit.
- 22:27It was good to see Sergio get out of it.
- 22:29But before the race, I think you added this in there, Joe.
- 22:33Both Haas were de-cued from qualifying?
- 22:36Yeah, it was a really, really bad weekend for Haas.
- 22:40So at the end of qualifying, both cars were disqualified for a rear wing setup infringement.
- 22:47Wasn't DRS specifically had something to do with the DRS?
- 22:49Yeah, so it's how I think, don't quote me on this, but it's in the realm of this, there
- 22:55are a couple of adjustments you can make for how open the DRS wing can get.
- 23:02They had a new part for that on the wing that the mechanics were not trained on, and it
- 23:08was dialed too high up.
- 23:10So technicians came over, saw that, and were like, hey, you're like 0.2 centimeters off.
- 23:17So you're out of the session.
- 23:19I think they just eyeballed that sucker.
- 23:20Yeah, that's about 0.2 off.
- 23:22That ankle fly.
- 23:23Can you have any more of a Haas move?
- 23:26You get a new part where mechanics aren't trained on?
- 23:29That was an official statement.
- 23:31It was like an error in mechanic training.
- 23:33I was like, of course it was.
- 23:35And I said this last week too.
- 23:37I was like, Haas has been looking good.
- 23:39They haven't had any off track issues.
- 23:42Their pits have been great.
- 23:43I willed this into existence.
- 23:44That's on you, homie.
- 23:45It's on me.
- 23:46I'm sorry.
- 23:47I apologize.
- 23:48Oh, Lee.
- 23:49Yeah, that's enough about Haas.
- 23:51Hopefully they get a little bounce back.
- 23:54Alpine.
- 23:55Oh boy.
- 23:56Oh, oh boy.
- 23:58Same lap as the complete carnage that we saw around the couple corners before, but Okon.
- 24:05Why, man?
- 24:06Why?
- 24:07What are you doing?
- 24:09It may have just cost him his job.
- 24:11Nah, it's not costing him his job.
- 24:14Allegedly.
- 24:15You think even a race?
- 24:16Hmm?
- 24:17You think it's costing him a race?
- 24:18No.
- 24:19Oh, it's gonna, you don't think even one.
- 24:20I think it'll absolutely cost him a race, dude.
- 24:23Because it's time and time again.
- 24:24Now I'm not saying Gastly's a saint by any means.
- 24:26They battle each other hard.
- 24:28Which I can appreciate.
- 24:29There's two worse parents you can have.
- 24:30They've been rivals their entire, like, not F1 career since they grew up carting against
- 24:34each other.
- 24:35Why would you pair these cats up and expect them to be friendly?
- 24:37Yeah, no, I think that's a great point.
- 24:39I think that's a great point.
- 24:41Are they both from the same country too?
- 24:43Is Espan from there?
- 24:45Yeah, they're both French.
- 24:46Is Espan French too?
- 24:47Like, I think there's just a lot of pride there in each of them, personally.
- 24:52So of course they're gonna race each other hard.
- 24:54But I think that was just unnecessary, man.
- 24:56Ocon's always been an aggressive racer too.
- 24:58He is, that is his style.
- 25:00Gastly hasn't always been that aggressive.
- 25:02And that's why I think they're gonna sit him for a race.
- 25:04Like just, chill the heck out, man.
- 25:06No coffee for you.
- 25:07I think they sit him for one race.
- 25:09I agree.
- 25:10Why do you think they don't?
- 25:12Because he's scored points the week before.
- 25:14The race before.
- 25:15He has one of their two points on the year.
- 25:17You're gonna put some guy who's never raced an F1 in there and expect him to try to go
- 25:20get a point.
- 25:21Like they need all the points they can get.
- 25:23True, and Gastly's not like Gastly's blowing everybody out of the water right now either.
- 25:28Who's their reserve?
- 25:29Jack Doohan.
- 25:30And that's who's allegedly gonna take his seat, potentially for the one race.
- 25:34Maybe they wanna see if there's something in them?
- 25:36They should.
- 25:37Just like you said, there are two points.
- 25:40What does it hurt for one race to put in that guy?
- 25:42For one race?
- 25:43Why not?
- 25:44For one race though, if he doesn't get points and maybe Esteban gets it 9th or 10th, those
- 25:49few points could cost you 9th or 8th at the end of the year.
- 25:51How many races has Esteban got points in this year?
- 25:53One.
- 25:54So I just, that's a risk I'm willing to take at this point.
- 25:57Yeah, I agree.
- 25:58He can't stand on the fact that.
- 25:59I'll push for Gastly to get into points.
- 26:01If you think Esteban can get into points at Canada, I would think Gastly can as well.
- 26:05So I'd do everything you can to push him.
- 26:08I would agree.
- 26:09I would agree.
- 26:10But I would push Gastly to get in, you know, into points and just see what Doohan.
- 26:13Doohan.
- 26:14Doohan.
- 26:15Doohan.
- 26:16See what he's got.
- 26:17That's what that for one race.
- 26:18For one race.
- 26:19True.
- 26:20And there was a lot of talk.
- 26:23I think the best, one of the funniest parts of the race was hearing the Alpine boss, hearing
- 26:29the commentators say that he was already on French news saying like how disappointed he
- 26:34was in O'Connor for taking that.
- 26:35He's got to make a tough decision.
- 26:36Quote.
- 26:37Yeah.
- 26:38So I.
- 26:39And his contract's up.
- 26:40I think I'm with you in that I think that they're all talk.
- 26:42I don't think they're actually going to bench him because I mean, why would you bench your
- 26:46driver if he's like the best, if he's the best policy possibility for points and you're
- 26:51in the position that Alpine's in, you're going to want to use them.
- 26:54And you're putting them quite handsomely.
- 26:56You're going to, you're going to remember that.
- 26:58Like you're going to remember that he tried fighting on an awful corner in Monaco.
- 27:02He was in 11th place.
- 27:03If someone above 10th got like disqualified, that's two points.
- 27:08That that's three points for Alpine.
- 27:10They're going to remember that.
- 27:11And at that point in the race, that's what they're thinking.
- 27:13They're like, you just lost us a possibility for more points.
- 27:16We're going to remember that.
- 27:17Like you're, you're aggressive.
- 27:19You this is, this is like a repeat.
- 27:21He's consistently aggressive.
- 27:22I think there's also arguments that Ghastly has done similar things before and absolutely.
- 27:27But I think O'Conn is consistently like this and that's a problem.
- 27:31I think O'Conn's driving himself out of a seat in F1 next year.
- 27:34Well, and that's just it, right?
- 27:36The contracts up.
- 27:38I think you just see what, see what you have in Jack.
- 27:41Just, just see what you even have in an F1 car, in a race, at race pace, in a race scenario.
- 27:47Just, just see what you even have because you know, you said you think the best, you
- 27:52know, Alpine's best bet at getting points is leaving O'Conn in the car.
- 27:55I would agree with that.
- 27:57Now is it in Alpine's best interest to have O'Conn in the car next season?
- 28:01I have no idea.
- 28:02Yeah.
- 28:03I think that's what they're looking at even right now, this early in the season.
- 28:06It's who happens.
- 28:09You do not look like you agree and that's cool.
- 28:11I know.
- 28:12I mean, I don't think you can take a seat out of it.
- 28:13You can't take a guy out of a seat.
- 28:15We'll see in a week.
- 28:16I mean, it'd be one thing if like he was consistently finishing.
- 28:18I would imagine they'd make that decision soon.
- 28:20Like if this would happen to Zao, Zao Valtteri or Logan right now, I could wholeheartedly
- 28:26understand that because they have consistently finished P17 or worse.
- 28:29Sure.
- 28:30O'Conn has been consistently in 10th through 15th.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:34I just, I don't see how you could take them out of the seat right now because of, yeah,
- 28:39it's been.
- 28:40Sorry.
- 28:41Yeah, but so I get it.
- 28:42Yeah.
- 28:43You can't battle your teammate.
- 28:44I fully understand that.
- 28:46And especially in like those circumstances, because you're fighting for 10th place with
- 28:49your teammate.
- 28:50You can't sacrifice the point for the team, especially in Monaco.
- 28:53Right, right, right.
- 28:54But I just don't see how you can just take them out.
- 28:57And I get what you're saying, the consistency between 10 and 15, but I don't view that as
- 29:00a good thing either.
- 29:02Like you're consistently finishing 10th through 15th, at least you're not 15th to 20th, right?
- 29:06Since they got the card underway to actual specifications, he's been consistently finishing
- 29:1110th through 12th.
- 29:14We'll see.
- 29:16We'll see what Alpine does in.
- 29:17Time will tell.
- 29:18Time will tell.
- 29:19Man, I want to say Mercury for some reason.
- 29:24Mercedes, George with a pretty good drive, a pretty good weekend I would say as a whole.
- 29:29With that fastest lap, you might find himself on the periodic table as a new element, dude.
- 29:33Mercury.
- 29:34Hamilton got it.
- 29:35As I said.
- 29:36Oh, well I was talking about George.
- 29:38I got what you're saying.
- 29:39That was good.
- 29:40That was good.
- 29:41But it ruined it.
- 29:42Science.
- 29:43Science.
- 29:44What about it?
- 29:45Well, science.
- 29:46Mercury, Mercedes, George, Hamilton, great race.
- 29:50Fastest lap out of Hamilton.
- 29:51Love to see it.
- 29:52I'm super confused right now.
- 29:53I think I just had a stroke.
- 29:56Yeah, I mean there's not really anything much to say about Mercedes I don't think.
- 30:03Car sucks.
- 30:04Fifth and seventh.
- 30:05Hamilton with the fastest lap.
- 30:07What tires did he have on?
- 30:08Was it mediums?
- 30:09I don't think anyone.
- 30:10Did he go for another box and just put softs on to get fastest?
- 30:14Or no?
- 30:15No, I don't think he got softs on.
- 30:16I don't think he had that much of a gap.
- 30:17Yeah, okay.
- 30:18I don't think anyone in the top 10 put softs on at all during that race.
- 30:24Fair enough.
- 30:25V-Carbs.
- 30:26Yuki, as I have donned him, quote, the consistent Sonoda in points again.
- 30:33Again, just making that argument for a bigger seat.
- 30:38A bigger seat, dude.
- 30:39Do you think Red Bull would actually look at him over Chekhov?
- 30:42No.
- 30:43No, at this point I don't.
- 30:44I agree with Tyler on this beginning of the season maybe, but right now I agree with Tyler.
- 30:48A big thing too though with Yuki.
- 30:50I heard rumors of him with Haas.
- 30:54Why would you do that?
- 30:55And a couple other teams.
- 30:56I don't think I would do that.
- 30:57That would be silly.
- 30:58I don't think I would do that.
- 30:59Now, 2026, if there's something crazy coming, which I do not believe for Haas, but why would
- 31:05you want to just change a scenery?
- 31:07Assuming that you're not going to get the Red Bull seat now?
- 31:10Does Haas lead you to something else?
- 31:12I don't think he does it.
- 31:13Just rumors.
- 31:15It's not from my reliable news source.
- 31:16I could have thrown out rumors.
- 31:17I could only see him doing that if he for some reason can't keep his V-Carb seat, right?
- 31:24Which I think he has locked in right now.
- 31:25I would hope he has locked in.
- 31:27I don't know why they would put anybody else in that seat, especially versus what Danny
- 31:31Rick's doing right now.
- 31:32Yeah.
- 31:33You gotta go with Yuki.
- 31:34And honestly at this point I think they could even keep Danny Rick.
- 31:37I don't think they should, but I think they could at this point.
- 31:40He's getting better as well.
- 31:41He could find himself a spot.
- 31:43Somewhere else.
- 31:44Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:45But I think he's making enough of an argument for V-Carb to keep him one more season too
- 31:49as well.
- 31:50I don't know.
- 31:51I know they want to go younger though.
- 31:53That's the thing.
- 31:54That's kind of their model, right?
- 31:55Right, 100%.
- 31:56What I fully think is happening with Red Bull is they're gonna keep Yuki on another one
- 32:01year deal with V-Carb, see what happens after next year with Max.
- 32:05Because there might be two Red Bull speeds open at the end of next year.
- 32:08You gotta put Yuki in one of them at that point.
- 32:11If you lose Max you have to keep Yuki.
- 32:13I would agree with that.
- 32:14And then Chetko is fighting back for a two year deal.
- 32:17That's what he wants?
- 32:19Yeah.
- 32:20He counteracted a one year deal and said I want two years.
- 32:22Which is smart.
- 32:23Which is also kind of crazy and we all thought he was gonna retire maybe.
- 32:27That's what I mean.
- 32:28I don't think Red Bull would sign that.
- 32:29I don't think Sergio has ever come out and said he has no intention of wanting to race.
- 32:33I think that's all just media saying hey Red Bull, I think Chetko's time's up.
- 32:38It might be though.
- 32:41V-Carb's performing.
- 32:42I'm just super disappointed.
- 32:44I want Danny in a good car and I want him racing on the grid.
- 32:48Liam Lawson is the reserve driver still for Red Bull and for V-Carb.
- 32:55Gotta get him in a seat man.
- 32:56Especially with what he did last year.
- 32:57You gotta get him in a seat.
- 32:58And I'm like.
- 32:59And so I'm fighting.
- 33:00Yeah exactly.
- 33:01I'm fighting between Danny and Liam and I don't want to fight against Danny.
- 33:04But Liam needs to prove himself.
- 33:07Give him a year.
- 33:08Right?
- 33:09Throw Danny in the reserve spot maybe.
- 33:10I don't know.
- 33:11He's not performing.
- 33:13What if Liam can?
- 33:14I don't know.
- 33:15It's a tough situation.
- 33:16With how consistent Yuki's been, it's not the car.
- 33:19No it's really not.
- 33:21Yuki's been showing he's got the skill.
- 33:24But you also, like with Ricardo, how bad does he really want to race next year if it's not
- 33:29in a big seat?
- 33:30I think that's where it comes down to.
- 33:31I think this seat this year and the end of last year was because he was like I'm gonna
- 33:36be in a Red Bull.
- 33:37Yeah.
- 33:38That was his whole mindset.
- 33:39So how bad, if he came back and this year just built up that energy in him that he had
- 33:44back when he was on the Red Bulls or back on the Reynolds or whatever it may be or the
- 33:48McLaren, if that got rejuvenated, I think we see him in a car next year.
- 33:52I just don't know if it is.
- 33:53Does Red Bull go Danny, you can have that second seat and Checo's gone completely and Liam's
- 33:58in that second seat at VCarb.
- 34:00I think if Danny comes back next season it's in a bottom tier car.
- 34:05If he comes back next season it's in Sauber, Alpine, or Haas.
- 34:07Is that worth it for him to stay on the grid?
- 34:09Well that's what I'm saying.
- 34:11He has to have that drive come back.
- 34:12He has to be rejuvenated and really want to go out there and make something happen again
- 34:17in F1.
- 34:18Makes me want to go back and watch the early.
- 34:19I don't see it but that's the only way he's doing it.
- 34:21That's the only way he's doing it is if he rebuilt that energy and momentum to want to
- 34:24really do it.
- 34:25Makes me want to watch season one of Drive to Survive again just to see him in a Red
- 34:28Bull car.
- 34:29Isn't season one when he won Monica's?
- 34:32Jumped in and.
- 34:33Belly flop dive.
- 34:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:35Williams, Alpine.
- 34:36Alpine!
- 34:37Alpine hits points.
- 34:38Whoa, first points.
- 34:39Another skill.
- 34:40Long time coming.
- 34:43Being handicapped by a car I think.
- 34:46Oh definitely.
- 34:47I think he's still a dark horse, not for the Red Bull seat to be honest, but do they look
- 34:51at him for the V-Carb?
- 34:52I would love to see Alpine in that other Merc seat.
- 34:55Yeah, yeah.
- 34:56Alpine's stuck in Williams for two years.
- 34:57For at least two years.
- 34:58So he's there for a while.
- 35:00Well what if Merc came calling?
- 35:01He's out of that Williams deal instantly.
- 35:02I was just going to say if he's signed with Williams can Mercedes come in and pay off
- 35:10Williams?
- 35:11That contract doesn't mean anything.
- 35:12Yeah.
- 35:13Alright, I was just curious.
- 35:14So yeah, nothing really else to say about that.
- 35:18Good for Albon.
- 35:19Sargent is away.
- 35:22Anyway, Aston's outside of points.
- 35:26That's kind of weird.
- 35:28Fernando not hitting points.
- 35:30Terrible weekend for Fernando.
- 35:31Just terrible weekend.
- 35:32Aston as a whole.
- 35:33I mean, Stroll I think even had a better weekend than Fernando.
- 35:36Oh yeah, he did.
- 35:38Nah, Fernando finished 11th, Stroll finished 14th.
- 35:42I think we'll at least see Alonso back in points next week.
- 35:45Or I'm sorry, in a week and a half.
- 35:47Because we're doing this early.
- 35:50But just a bad weekend for Aston.
- 35:53I don't think there's really anything else to be said about them unless anybody else
- 35:56has anything.
- 35:57You know what would be terrible?
- 35:58So since we brought it up on last podcast after doing the sprints every weekend to try
- 36:02to gain it.
- 36:03What a terrible sprint race that would be in Monica.
- 36:06No doubt.
- 36:07How just terrible would that be?
- 36:09I don't think they'd ever do it.
- 36:10Well, they were proposing bringing a sprint race to every single race next year.
- 36:15They were in talks to gain viewership and gain whatever.
- 36:17To bring a sprint race to every race.
- 36:19Not super excited about that.
- 36:22I brought it up last episode.
- 36:23Did you?
- 36:24We haven't talked about it a lot, but one of the biggest reasons why Monica was so,
- 36:31obviously there's no point, no places to pass very well.
- 36:35But another reason is that they were all four seconds off the pace because they were all
- 36:40managing their tires so they didn't have to pit again.
- 36:43If we brought a sprint here, they wouldn't have to do that.
- 36:46They would just be pushing all out.
- 36:47So we'd see them at least trying to do something.
- 36:50I would hope.
- 36:51That just sounds dangerous money wise.
- 36:55You run into a Checo situation and now that car is going to cost you a lot of money for
- 36:59a sprint dude.
- 37:00Just wreck that.
- 37:01So I don't know how hard they would push.
- 37:03You would think they would more.
- 37:04You would hope so.
- 37:05That would be really crappy to have a sprint there.
- 37:08That's kind of the, I think that's the goal in general of the sprint and not making it
- 37:14so where you ended up on the sprint is where you started on the race.
- 37:16The goal of that entirely was for there to be more fighting in the sprint.
- 37:20And we're not really seeing that this year even on easier tracks.
- 37:23It's not as, there's been a couple I guess with like the Lewis finishing second and all
- 37:28that.
- 37:29And those three fighting between the two Ferraris and Checo.
- 37:32What race was that?
- 37:34Japan?
- 37:35I can't remember.
- 37:3610 minutes.
- 37:37But it was like, yeah.
- 37:38But I think that was the goal and we're seeing it somewhat but overall I don't think it's
- 37:43going to be that big of a jump because the reality is if you have a wreck like Checo
- 37:47did you're not racing the next day.
- 37:49Yeah.
- 37:50Right.
- 37:51True.
- 37:52100%.
- 37:53That's right.
- 37:54And I think that's going to be the thing that would hurt the racing.
- 37:55It's like you're going to try to take care of the car because you need to make the money
- 37:59on Sunday.
- 38:00For sure.
- 38:01It's almost a dumb move for them to switch that for the sprint and make it too qualifying.
- 38:08Like you know how it used to be with the sprint where you ended up putting something to the
- 38:11race.
- 38:12Oh it actually had like a.
- 38:13Yeah.
- 38:14It had an implication on that.
- 38:15Yeah.
- 38:16Which typically, I mean, at least at that rate a couple guys would gain a spot or two
- 38:18or a couple guys would climb up whatever it may be.
- 38:21Right now like you're saying it's just kind of okay let's maintain the car.
- 38:24Let's make sure the car is okay.
- 38:25There's still not that aggressive fighting that everybody's hoping for.
- 38:28The bottom few probably are fighting more than most.
- 38:32And they've gotten some points in the sprint.
- 38:34So again, like it's been good for them.
- 38:36But I just don't think it's worth having, especially at Monaco.
- 38:39Yeah.
- 38:40I didn't even think about like, the FIA would probably need to raise the cost caps a little
- 38:46bit and maybe get them more partner allocations if they're racing.
- 38:51I mean, if they're in a race, what is it?
- 38:5452 times a year?
- 38:57Like that's...You know what they'd almost have to do?
- 38:59Bring a spare car back.
- 39:00Well, they already have, yeah.
- 39:04Spare car entirely, not just like a spare chassis and the parts.
- 39:08The kicker with that too is like the reason that when I saw that article about a sprint
- 39:13in every race, the reason was to make it so there wasn't such a big gap and more teams
- 39:17are fighting for the higher end up at the top.
- 39:20But the kicker is if you increase the cost gap and people are going to be more aggressive,
- 39:25or it may be because they have the extra money to do it, it still just hurts the bottom teams,
- 39:29not the other teams.
- 39:30That's true.
- 39:31For sure.
- 39:32That's true.
- 39:33To wrap, Monaco, we did see...I know you said, Tyler, that Gastly may have overtook somebody
- 39:39maybe when he got hit by Ocon.
- 39:41It was right before.
- 39:42Yeah, it was right before.
- 39:44I watched the onboard and he had passed him and then Ocon came and just, wah!
- 39:48The only clean overtake I saw was Boatoss.
- 39:51So good for you, Valtteri.
- 39:53But yeah, lap one, that's not even overtaking.
- 39:56Does that count?
- 39:57Yeah, I don't know.
- 39:58You don't have to start.
- 39:59It's not really like...especially in Monaco.
- 40:00So is that your new sound effect?
- 40:02What's going on there?
- 40:03Let's head to the news, Kev.
- 40:04Let's head to the news.
- 40:05Kev, let's head to the news.
- 45:05And back right into the news, of course.
- 45:22Let's just start off right away with Monaco.
- 45:25What would you change?
- 45:26Like, if you individually could change something about Monaco, whatever it may be, if they
- 45:31got to tear down half a block, don't do it, but if they do whatever, what would you change
- 45:36to the race to make it more interesting and less boring as half the grid has alluded to?
- 45:42I got two things.
- 45:44The first one I'm not a huge fan of, mandatory three to four pit stops.
- 45:49Make mandatory pit stops.
- 45:50You have to pit this many times during the race.
- 45:53And then my other thing is get rid of that chicane at the end of the tunnel.
- 45:56Just make that straight.
- 45:57Bring in another DRS zone going into that corner and then boom, you have two hours of
- 46:01opportunity for overtaking.
- 46:03And that chicane, you lose so much time to the driver in front of you in that chicane
- 46:07alone because you can't be aggressive with the guy in front of you.
- 46:10100%.
- 46:11No, I like the chicane thing for sure.
- 46:12I actually like both ideas, but that was the only thing I was thinking to the chicane.
- 46:16Are we all in the same freaking page?
- 46:19Your first point was going to be my first point.
- 46:21More mandatory pit stops.
- 46:24My honor where my honorary point was going to be getting rid of the chicane.
- 46:28My second point that I was going to bring up was, and I don't feel strongly about this,
- 46:34but we only get Monaco every five years.
- 46:39Keep it historic.
- 46:40Keep it the same.
- 46:41Interesting.
- 46:42Do you still get points for the race or is it a non-points race at that point?
- 46:45Oh, of course.
- 46:46Of course.
- 46:47I think, all right.
- 46:48So the schedule is just one day's long every five?
- 46:50I don't think that's ever going to happen because Monaco rakes in so much money and
- 46:53it's so historic for it.
- 46:55They're the only, I was looking this up last night.
- 46:58They're the only track that actually profits from having, or the only track that gets paid
- 47:03to have it there.
- 47:04Oh, wow.
- 47:05Oh, sure.
- 47:06Every other track pays to have it there.
- 47:07They're the only track that gets paid to have it because of how historic it is.
- 47:11I didn't know that.
- 47:12Yeah.
- 47:13Country's crazy.
- 47:14So I don't think it's ever going to happen.
- 47:15I got a solution for the other four years.
- 47:16We go back to Russia.
- 47:17Ooh.
- 47:18Yeah.
- 47:19What other super historic track can we replace?
- 47:22Nürburgring.
- 47:23Nürburgring?
- 47:24Yep.
- 47:25That track is not for F1 cars.
- 47:26No, I know.
- 47:27That track is going to kill everyone.
- 47:28I was going to say that.
- 47:30That one might kill somebody actually.
- 47:31Yeah, it probably will.
- 47:33Yeah.
- 47:34So that's one of the things that I'm thinking of.
- 47:36Keep it historic.
- 47:37I don't think it's ever going to happen.
- 47:39I just find it, it's going to be so hard to like mandate rules for a single track and
- 47:44not mandate them for other races, right?
- 47:47I'm sure they could do it.
- 47:48I mean, they can do whatever the hell they want to, but like, hey, you're coming into
- 47:53this, you're coming into this race, you have to change your tires to a different compound,
- 47:57at least once.
- 47:58That's every single race.
- 47:59Oh, except this one race, you have to do it three or four times, right?
- 48:02So it's, and I mean, it'll create some really fun strategies.
- 48:06It'll definitely create racing because they want to use the tire to its fullest.
- 48:10It'll just, I don't know, it's just kind of weird in terms of like how rules go that like
- 48:14we're making Monaco even more special than it is.
- 48:16And it might just stay, it might just stay boring, unfortunately.
- 48:19But like also, I mean, to the tire thing, the biggest thing that they've tried to do
- 48:23with the tires is make it so you're wasting less.
- 48:25Cause that was like the biggest thing with the people that were like, I don't know if
- 48:29you want to say protesting, but like the biggest concern a lot of people had was the amount
- 48:32of tires they waste in F1.
- 48:33Hey, I'll take one to make a table out of.
- 48:36I'll recycle one.
- 48:37They got one.
- 48:38That's an interesting point.
- 48:39Those people are so dumb.
- 48:40Well, yeah, but it's like, but it's something that I'm not saying I'm saying right now in
- 48:49this day and age, that is the voices that are going to make the changes like that.
- 48:53If you're like, Hey, we're going to add four pit stops.
- 48:55Well then it's all fricking soft tires.
- 48:57We're going to go to all electric cars too.
- 49:03We're going to bring formula E for that.
- 49:05We're going to bring formula E to F1.
- 49:06Just get rid of all emissions.
- 49:08I feel like two mandatory pit stops is more than enough and just make sure you use a different
- 49:12compound at least once.
- 49:13I think you're golden to be honest.
- 49:15Good at medium and get too soft.
- 49:16I mean, I wouldn't even be opposed to like, you have to use all three compounds.
- 49:20At least once.
- 49:21That'd be interesting.
- 49:22That's so interesting.
- 49:23Strategy would come into play.
- 49:24Hards are like, Hards can obviously we've seen it.
- 49:26They can last the entire race.
- 49:28But if you're required to use all three.
- 49:30Yeah.
- 49:31Screw it.
- 49:32Throw the wets on.
- 49:33What strategies do you have to start with Hards?
- 49:34What if you throw more points at fastest lap?
- 49:39Just for Monaco though, or just in general?
- 49:41You do in general.
- 49:42I wouldn't mind it for in general.
- 49:43I think fastest laps is like a 5-1 point.
- 49:45You only get one, right?
- 49:47A five pointer.
- 49:48I think you should get more than that.
- 49:49It would give incentive to more people to go and chase it during the race too.
- 49:51And you'd see people just racing and battling.
- 49:54That would encourage the people out of the points to get it and then deny other top 10
- 49:59to get it, right?
- 50:00So we might have to encourage the rest of the field though.
- 50:05They can do it right now, but it's a single point.
- 50:09Right now one point is horrible for fastest lap because right now there's no incentive.
- 50:13No, there's no incentive.
- 50:14Whoever's making the tires.
- 50:15Like last season it was Max was up by a minute and he's like, all right, I'm going to pit
- 50:19real quick, put on softs and pull out the fastest lap and then it's it.
- 50:23It's more of like a bragging rights at this point.
- 50:25If we put more pressure on it, when the races are closer, you're going to have those guys
- 50:30seven to or five to 10 fighting for that extra five points.
- 50:33And it's going to create more of that battle.
- 50:35I like that idea.
- 50:36Giving more points to fastest lap.
- 50:38Just five.
- 50:39Let's not get crazy here.
- 50:40I really like that idea actually.
- 50:42I think I'd only be annoyed if like a team like Williams was trying to take it every
- 50:46single race and they're just being, you know.
- 50:47The thing about that, Joe, is like even if that was the case, somebody in the top 10
- 50:51is going to take that chance to go and grab it.
- 50:53Yes.
- 50:54Oh, it all it creates more incentive for someone.
- 50:57Because if you're finishing, if you're thinking one step ahead, you guys are thinking three.
- 51:00That makes sense.
- 51:01If you're finishing seventh, why not pull off, try to get the fastest lap real quick,
- 51:06maybe finish ninth or tenth.
- 51:09The rest of those people are going to do it.
- 51:11Yeah, that's why that's what makes it interesting.
- 51:14What's the strategy behind it?
- 51:15Because they can still pull out and not get the fastest lap.
- 51:17Well, it could be seventh and sixth pulling off.
- 51:19Then you have two guys racing for the fastest lap.
- 51:21One might not even finish in the top 10.
- 51:23Yeah.
- 51:24I really like that idea.
- 51:25I'd say like three or five points.
- 51:26Yeah.
- 51:27It would just make it a little bit more interesting.
- 51:30All right, Max.
- 51:31Let's real quick last bit of news before we kind of give you a constructors and driver
- 51:37standings update.
- 51:39Carlos, his window has closed to sign the Audi deal.
- 51:44Is that just speculation?
- 51:45I think it has to be because there's no talks of it since that April or May 26th, whatever
- 51:52the deadline was.
- 51:53Go to your F1 dark web.
- 51:55I'll try.
- 51:56I mean, the reality is he's not not going to be in a top five team.
- 52:01And that might position him.
- 52:04What team is out there?
- 52:05What top five team has a spot open?
- 52:07Merck.
- 52:08That's it.
- 52:09I don't think he's going to chase a one year deal.
- 52:11Red Bull's out.
- 52:12I don't think Red Bull's even in the equation.
- 52:14But if he is past that Audi deadline, because I don't think Red Bull is going to give him
- 52:17a more than one year deal.
- 52:20Why would you not?
- 52:21I think he takes that over going to Haas right now.
- 52:22Like if you're Red Bull, if you can't go to Audi, why wouldn't he not take a one year
- 52:26at Red Bull over going to like a team like that?
- 52:28Now that you say that, that's true.
- 52:30Like, why wouldn't a Red Bull offer a more than a one year deal?
- 52:33That's what I don't wonder, because if they're like if they're worried of Max leaving in
- 52:36twenty twenty six, you want to secure a top driver.
- 52:39That's a very good point.
- 52:40So it would be.
- 52:41I can't.
- 52:42What?
- 52:43That's weird.
- 52:44I wonder where he'll be.
- 52:45But you would take a Red Bull over a Haas for sure.
- 52:49I just want to know the driver line up next year.
- 52:50I just really want to know.
- 52:51I know we talk about it literally every time.
- 52:54So we might as well just continue that trend.
- 52:56Constructors, let's just talk about it.
- 52:58Red Bull at two hundred and seventy six points in first place at the moment.
- 53:01Ferrari sitting at two fifty two, only twenty four points behind Red Bull.
- 53:06How big was that?
- 53:08We've already kind of touched on just a little bit.
- 53:10But again, Carlos being able to keep his position on the grid and Sergio not finishing the race.
- 53:15I mean, that's 40 points.
- 53:18That's a big job.
- 53:19Forty points in one race.
- 53:21What's six?
- 53:22How many points is sixth?
- 53:24Sixth place in a race?
- 53:25Yeah.
- 53:26It's like eight?
- 53:27Seven?
- 53:28I think it's eight.
- 53:29Yeah.
- 53:30To do some quick math.
- 53:31It's either eight or ten.
- 53:32So you have.
- 53:33But so that's you're at least gaining 30 points on Red Bull in one freaking race.
- 53:38Is it?
- 53:39Yeah.
- 53:40You're gaining 32 points in one race.
- 53:41Heading into Canada where Verstappen is not confident, saying that he thinks they're going
- 53:46to be much better in Spain because Canada is super bumpy.
- 53:49And that's where he's saying the car is super not ideal, is if you have to try to ride a
- 53:54curb in a corner or whatever, the car reacts horribly.
- 53:57And that's what that's where Max is like not feeling Canada as well.
- 54:02So do we we could see a Max outside the podium for Canada.
- 54:06So Ferrari, McLaren podium again.
- 54:08So I think the biggest question here is obviously the beginning of the year, we all were saying
- 54:12Red Bull runs away with it.
- 54:13Does Red Bull even win the Constructors this year?
- 54:15I think so.
- 54:16I think I still think so.
- 54:18I think they have it up.
- 54:19I think it's going to be fun, though.
- 54:20I think it's going to be a fight.
- 54:21I think there's still a high chance they get it.
- 54:23I don't I think that's the only championship that they're actually fighting for.
- 54:28So we talked about we talked with us a little bit earlier about Checo taking that other
- 54:32Red Bull seat.
- 54:33This Constructors may rely a lot on him throughout the rest of the season.
- 54:36I think so.
- 54:37That's that's accurate.
- 54:38And this is the first time this has happened for him in the Red Bull seat, where a lot
- 54:41of it's so we have to go out and do it.
- 54:43So is he feeling that extra pressure?
- 54:45You think how does he one?
- 54:46How does he perform in that?
- 54:47And how much does that affect Red Bull taking?
- 54:50He's racing for that Red Bull seat.
- 54:52If he races good enough and they win the Constructors, he gets that other deal that he gets that
- 54:55one more year.
- 54:56Well, I think he signs it or not because he wants to now, allegedly.
- 55:00It's they've made the decision on that seat well before we get you think that's done.
- 55:04Yeah, they're not going to wait until the end of the year to fill that seat.
- 55:07I wouldn't think so.
- 55:08I just thought it did.
- 55:09So last year was an anomaly with with Williams holding up with Sargent because it was in
- 55:13the end of the year.
- 55:14That like doesn't happen.
- 55:15It's not usually the driver line up set by the midseason break.
- 55:17Right, right.
- 55:18Right.
- 55:19Usually, because if he keeps performing like he has been, though, does he not even get
- 55:24looked at for that seat?
- 55:25I think they have to consider that you have to because even if you do get like like you
- 55:30keys outperforming.
- 55:31Well, OK, just one race, the race before I guess you keep press.
- 55:35They'll finish about it for the car.
- 55:37He's outperforming.
- 55:38But that's the thing is like if you look at the driver talent, like with the cars that
- 55:40they're given, why wouldn't you give that seat to Yuki?
- 55:43Like why wouldn't you?
- 55:44I think I think though, if they do in constructors, Checo has proven that he deserves it one more
- 55:49year.
- 55:50I think it depends on where he finishes, though, because last year Max won it by himself.
- 55:54You take Checo out of the equation, Max won the constructors.
- 55:58That's not going to happen this year.
- 55:59If we see if Max ends up winning every one of the races from round out and they just
- 56:03win it just based on Max, then it's whatever.
- 56:07But yeah, I think it's going to rely a lot on Checo.
- 56:10I'd love to bring this back up because one of us has already said it.
- 56:13Red Bull has already offered him a one year deal and he came back saying, no, I want to.
- 56:18So they've already offered him the seat.
- 56:20Well, that's been what Red Bull has said the entire time, though.
- 56:23They said this is Checo's seat.
- 56:25He's under contract for next year.
- 56:26If we're taking Red Bull's word, I mean, you know, if we're overtaking it, he's got the
- 56:31seat.
- 56:32He's under contract.
- 56:34He's not a free agent at the end of this year.
- 56:36He's under contract for Red Bull until next year.
- 56:38Until next year, until the end of last year.
- 56:40If I'm not mistaken.
- 56:41I thought his contract was up this year.
- 56:43Yeah.
- 56:44Checo?
- 56:45Yeah, who are you talking about?
- 56:46Max or Checo?
- 56:47Yeah.
- 56:48Checo's up at the end of this year.
- 56:49Checo's up at this year.
- 56:50Yeah.
- 56:51OK, I'm wrong then.
- 56:52Well, let's not dive too deep into the seats again, like we always do every five minutes.
- 56:57Obviously, we got McLaren at third at 184, 68 points behind Red Bull, but Mercedes only
- 57:0320 points behind McLaren at that point.
- 57:07Does Merck have a chance at catching McLaren?
- 57:09I'm going to go ahead and say no.
- 57:10Not even close.
- 57:11No shot.
- 57:1288 points, man.
- 57:13And then Aston.
- 57:15I think the biggest ones here to jump in on this, Smelty, the biggest thing to look at
- 57:20is one, can Haas maintain seventh?
- 57:24Can they stay in the seventh spot?
- 57:25That'd be huge for them.
- 57:26And two, does Racing Bulls catch Aston?
- 57:29I think they do.
- 57:30I think they could at this point with what Aston's shown us the recent weeks.
- 57:33What's the highest the Racing Bulls have finished?
- 57:35I think they finished fifth.
- 57:36I think we see Aston at sixth and fingers crossed Haas takes seventh.
- 57:41And I don't, whatever happens below, let it happen.
- 57:43I think we've seen enough from Hulk and I mean NK Mag some races, obviously he's not
- 57:48amazing, but we've seen enough that like I think they could honestly hold seventh.
- 57:53I think they do.
- 57:54I think they could.
- 57:55Racing Bulls catch Aston, I think that's the biggest thing.
- 57:57I think the rest, I think three and four.
- 57:58I mean 20 points back?
- 58:00Dude, I, they could.
- 58:01There's a lot of season left.
- 58:03There's a lot of season left.
- 58:04I feel like, I mean Alonso has had more good races than he has bad races.
- 58:09I think the last two have been very bad for him.
- 58:11I think he probably comes back.
- 58:13I don't know what it has been with Alonso.
- 58:15He's just, is he just like off his game a little bit or is the car just really not good?
- 58:18I don't know, because Stroll's been doing, Stroll's been doing what Stroll does.
- 58:22So I feel like he hasn't fallen back.
- 58:24It's just been kind of Alonso that's been making up a little bit.
- 58:27I'm more interested to see if Haas maybe catches even racing Bulls.
- 58:30Like maybe they even take the sixth place.
- 58:31Yuki's too consistent.
- 58:32I think with Yuki's consistency as well, backing off that, it's Yuki's so consistent that just
- 58:39because being that consistent, he will get rewarded with a sixth or a fifth this year.
- 58:43He'll get rewarded with a big points jump.
- 58:46And I think right now, just looking at this.
- 58:47You think Yuki's going to finish fifth or sixth?
- 58:49I think he gets rewarded with it because of his consistency.
- 58:51With something crazy.
- 58:52In the WDC or the constructors?
- 58:54No, no, in a race, in one race.
- 58:56Oh, in one race.
- 58:57I think I can drive him.
- 58:58I'm like, there's no way.
- 58:59I think he gets rewarded with fifth or sixth this year because of how consistent he's been.
- 59:05And I think that's going to be a huge point jump.
- 59:07And right now, I think Aston is going to be consistently fighting for the seventh, eighth,
- 59:11or sorry, eighth, ninth, tenth.
- 59:13Like they're going to be the bottom, bottom of the barrel now.
- 59:16I think that their sprint of Alonso finishing in the top five, top six is done.
- 59:23I think they're competing for the bottom of the barrel and competing against people like
- 59:27Yuki who he's going to have, you know, he's so consistent.
- 59:30He's going to have a race that pops out for fifth, sixth.
- 59:32For sure.
- 59:33Aston's going to need some big upgrades because that car just looks like it's getting worse
- 59:37and worse.
- 59:38And that V car, even Danny Rick is getting more consistent.
- 59:41You know, he's getting what looks like back to race form.
- 59:44And I mean, Yuki's just he's a consistent.
- 59:46I mean, just looking at it right now, he's had three of the races where he didn't finish
- 59:50in points.
- 59:51So he's five for eight points finishers.
- 59:53That's pretty good for him.
- 59:54Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 59:55I mean, the upgrade that Aston needs is probably new to show up next year.
- 59:58The upgrade that Aston needs sits in their second seat.
- 1:00:04We know that.
- 1:00:05And we know that's not going to happen.
- 1:00:07Also just a note before we go into driver points real quick, I totally said your table
- 1:00:10wrong.
- 1:00:11You have a nice, beautiful table that you made, Farrarys 24 points behind Red Bull and
- 1:00:15McLaren 68 points behind Ferrari.
- 1:00:18I was thinking that was the points behind the leader.
- 1:00:20So yeah, no much, much bigger discrepancy there.
- 1:00:23This was a huge race for Ferrari.
- 1:00:25No doubt.
- 1:00:26No, a hundred percent.
- 1:00:27Huge race for Ferrari, even splitting the McLarens.
- 1:00:28You imagine Lewis, if Ferrari wins the constructors this year and Lewis gets to walk into that
- 1:00:33team next year, watch out for Lewis.
- 1:00:36This is where we start seeing more hammer time.
- 1:00:38It will be fun.
- 1:00:39Lewis does not look like himself this year.
- 1:00:42I know the car is crap.
- 1:00:43No, it is.
- 1:00:44But he just does not look like himself.
- 1:00:45The car side, he doesn't look like Lewis Hamilton right now.
- 1:00:48Driver points, driver points, Max leading the way obviously at 169.
- 1:00:54Personally do not see anybody really catching him.
- 1:00:56I mean, if they do bring upgrades, I think Max still runs away with the driver points,
- 1:01:01but I think it'd be a lot closer than, absolutely than it has been last year at least.
- 1:01:07McLarens win was huge this week, but I think you could see Lando trying to catch, trying
- 1:01:12to catch LeClaire, honestly.
- 1:01:13I can see LeClaire catching Max.
- 1:01:16I think it's going to be a battle between them at the end of the year.
- 1:01:19I mean, it's 31 points right now.
- 1:01:21Like LeClaire has been, I mean, with taking into account Max, obviously he has five wins
- 1:01:27on the year, but LeClaire is fourth, third, second, fourth, fourth, third, third, first.
- 1:01:31What if Max DNFs one more time?
- 1:01:33Then they're caught up more or less.
- 1:01:34Say Lando wins that race.
- 1:01:36That's 25 points swing.
- 1:01:38Yeah.
- 1:01:39I mean, even if Lando wins, or sorry, not Lando, LeClaire, if LeClaire wins and then Max finishes
- 1:01:44sixth again, what did we say?
- 1:01:46It was eight?
- 1:01:47That's an 18 point swing in one race.
- 1:01:50Yeah.
- 1:01:51Yeah.
- 1:01:52No, I think it could be huge.
- 1:01:53The only one, the only thing that's kind of glaring to me, I'm just curious.
- 1:01:5717, American public education.
- 1:01:59Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:00It's all good.
- 1:02:01Yeah.
- 1:02:02So, Piazzari, do we think he could actually catch Checo by the end of the season with
- 1:02:06the way things have been going for Checo?
- 1:02:09I know, I know it's kind of-
- 1:02:10That 36 points is a lot.
- 1:02:12That's a lot.
- 1:02:13I mean, if it was like Lando, I would say maybe because Lando has the ability to go
- 1:02:17and win a race.
- 1:02:20I would argue that Oscar has the ability to go and win a race.
- 1:02:23The tail of the Ferraris though.
- 1:02:24I gotta see more yet.
- 1:02:25Which is fine.
- 1:02:26He's got to get more consistent, which he's been doing the last few weeks, but we got to
- 1:02:29see it over the course of a season.
- 1:02:31I think too that the tail of the Ferraris here, with how good Sianz started off the
- 1:02:35season and now we're seeing Leclerc just kind of dominating here at the end.
- 1:02:40Not dominating obviously, but getting back in race pace.
- 1:02:43I agree with Tyler entirely.
- 1:02:45I think Leclerc and Max are fighting the entire time and I don't think Checo can keep up with
- 1:02:52Sianz on points.
- 1:02:54I don't.
- 1:02:55I don't think so either.
- 1:02:56I think there's a real chance that Ferrari can pull it off this year.
- 1:02:59Just looking at this, the numbers, Checo doesn't catch up to Sianz on points.
- 1:03:03Sianz either goes up to third or stays in fourth.
- 1:03:05I think he stays there.
- 1:03:06I think the top four are cemented with those four guys.
- 1:03:08I would agree for sure.
- 1:03:10So then it becomes, okay can Leclerc drive with Max and when Leclerc is racing, Leclerc
- 1:03:16is racing.
- 1:03:17There's very few people that are as good as him in a car when he's in his form.
- 1:03:20So are you saying we could see a Ferrari constructors and drivers?
- 1:03:24Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:25If Leclerc catches Max, then they just won the constructors.
- 1:03:28I would love to see a Leclerc-Max battle like we saw Max and Lewis in 2021.
- 1:03:36It's every other race probably.
- 1:03:37But yeah, it's-
- 1:03:38I mean that would be fun the rest of the season.
- 1:03:40That would be fun.
- 1:03:41Throw Lando in there for a couple races.
- 1:03:42That would be just gnarly.
- 1:03:44And something that we didn't see coming.
- 1:03:46Like obviously we didn't see it coming, but not even the experts saw it coming.
- 1:03:50They just assumed that Red Bull was just going to run away with everything.
- 1:03:53And now at this point, we could absolutely see a repeat of 2021 at the very least.
- 1:03:58That'd be sweet.
- 1:03:59At the very least.
- 1:04:00And then like you said, throw in Lando for a couple.
- 1:04:01Yeah, dude.
- 1:04:02Throw in a couple podiums for Oscar and now all of a sudden McLaren's right there.
- 1:04:06They're probably not in the constructors race, but-
- 1:04:08I think the battles between Ferrari and Red Bull for number one, McLaren has third locked
- 1:04:12up.
- 1:04:13I don't think that McLaren can make the jump to that second yet though with how consistent
- 1:04:16those two other cars are.
- 1:04:18Yeah, for sure.
- 1:04:19No, yeah.
- 1:04:20For sure.
- 1:04:21But I think it all comes down to Checo.
- 1:04:23It all comes down to Checo.
- 1:04:26For everything.
- 1:04:27And the biggest thing here, the gap between Russell and Piastri isn't as crazy as I thought
- 1:04:33it was.
- 1:04:34Sorry, Russell and Lewis is not as crazy as I thought it was with how much Russell looks
- 1:04:38like he's been outperforming Lewis this year, just as a whole.
- 1:04:43And like Yuki sitting in 10th with 19 points in a V-Carb is insane.
- 1:04:47Yeah, that's awesome.
- 1:04:48I think he's got a top 10 locked up pretty much.
- 1:04:50I don't know.
- 1:04:52It's so funny that Bearman's still in 12th.
- 1:04:55Who's just about to say the same thing?
- 1:04:57I know.
- 1:04:58It's crazy.
- 1:04:59Nico above Ricciardo too.
- 1:05:00Nico in 13th with 6th in that car is kind of nuts.
- 1:05:04That is wild.
- 1:05:05That is wild.
- 1:05:06There's some eye-opening stuff.
- 1:05:07I haven't looked at this in a while.
- 1:05:08Some really eye-opening stuff, some of these guys.
- 1:05:11So with that, let's move into the Canada preview.
- 1:05:16Indeed, everyone.
- 1:11:08And right into our Canada preview, Joe, why don't you just take it away, homie, like you
- 1:11:26always do?
- 1:11:27We'll do.
- 1:11:28The Formula One AWS Grand Prix du Canada 2024.
- 1:11:32That's what we have coming up.
- 1:11:35The circuit Gilles Villeneuve occupies almost the entirety of the Notre Dame Island in Montreal,
- 1:11:40Quebec.
- 1:11:41And the fun fact, Canada hosted the longest race in F1 history in 2011.
- 1:11:46Any guesses on how long that race went?
- 1:11:49No idea.
- 1:11:50Any takers?
- 1:11:51That's four hours, four minutes and 39 seconds.
- 1:11:56It's a long, long race.
- 1:12:00Last year, starting the race, we had saw Max Alonso in Hamilton.
- 1:12:04Sainz and Perez started further down the grid just below points.
- 1:12:08On lap one, we saw Hamilton get past Alonso before the first turn and Sainz begins to
- 1:12:13fight with Perez for position a little further down the grid.
- 1:12:16At the end of the long straight in the first lap, the fighting continues as Sainz overtakes
- 1:12:20Perez who moves into the position right behind him and actually cuts off Magnussen in their
- 1:12:24braking zone, sending the Haas off the track only for a little bit.
- 1:12:28On lap 12, George oversteers into a barrier after hitting too much of a curb and loses
- 1:12:32the back end, destroying half of his front wing and gaining a back tire puncture from
- 1:12:36fourth place.
- 1:12:37This triggers a safety car, encouraging the top 10 to into the pits for a quick stop.
- 1:12:42Unfortunately to help negate the stacked pit stop, Lando backed up the field slightly so
- 1:12:46Oscar could finish up in his pit and get clear for Lando right after.
- 1:12:50He was given a five second penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior.
- 1:12:54Alonso found his way back past Lewis on lap 23 for second place.
- 1:12:58The two champions continue fighting through the lap, but Alonso made it stick for the
- 1:13:01time being.
- 1:13:02On lap 35, Nick DeVries fought K-Mag, showing him some moves that K-Mag has been using this
- 1:13:08season, pushing him off the track slightly, giving Russell two free positions up to 12th.
- 1:13:14This fighting continued down a few more turns when Nick went for an overtake on the inside,
- 1:13:18locked up into the turn, making himself a wall in front of K-Mag.
- 1:13:24They both ended up in the runoff area, stuck.
- 1:13:27By the time they found their way out, they were 18th and 19th, 40 seconds behind 17th.
- 1:13:32Russell's race went from bad to worse on lap 55 when he was told they needed to retire as
- 1:13:38the brake wear had gotten too high in the front left.
- 1:13:41So the final was as it started for Stapp and Alonso and Hamilton.
- 1:13:44We saw really great drives from Carlos and Charles and Checo, who made up a handful of
- 1:13:49positions from slightly lower in the top 10.
- 1:13:52Both McLarens qualified higher than their final race positions, even though they had
- 1:13:55some good fights, they were unable to keep up with the top three teams, all while having
- 1:14:00a five second penalty to work with.
- 1:14:01And when I say they finished higher in the final race positions, they actually finished
- 1:14:04lower.
- 1:14:05So they're in the low top 10.
- 1:14:08And then Verstappen's lead was only 10 seconds by the end of the race, and that was Canada
- 1:14:112023.
- 1:14:12That's like the shortest recap you've ever had.
- 1:14:18I just thought Monaco, Monaco was more happened last.
- 1:14:24I think more happened.
- 1:14:27More definitely happened.
- 1:14:28I just kind of condense it a little bit.
- 1:14:29Monaco was a bit longer.
- 1:14:30I stopped watching the 30 minute recap.
- 1:14:32I just watched the highlights and I think that's what I'm going to go with from now
- 1:14:36going forward.
- 1:14:37Saves a little bit of time.
- 1:14:38I forgot how good Alonso and them were last year.
- 1:14:44Every time you do a recap and you're like Alonso second.
- 1:14:46Alonso's in every recap.
- 1:14:48I'm like what?
- 1:14:49Yeah.
- 1:14:50Yeah.
- 1:14:51Alonso.
- 1:14:52Yeah.
- 1:14:53Alonso was fighting like for seconds at almost every single race and then they just hit a
- 1:14:58huge wall.
- 1:14:59Yep.
- 1:15:00Pretty much.
- 1:15:01Pretty much.
- 1:15:02Yeah.
- 1:15:03Seems like maybe that wall hit a little bit earlier this year or maybe they just have
- 1:15:07had a few bad races.
- 1:15:08I don't know.
- 1:15:09We'll see it in Canada.
- 1:15:10He did well last year so he should do.
- 1:15:12He's not going to get second place this year, but he should get top 10.
- 1:15:15Monaco did second too.
- 1:15:16They're done.
- 1:15:17Yeah, that's a good point.
- 1:15:18That's right.
- 1:15:19Put a fork in them.
- 1:15:20Put a fork in them.
- 1:15:21Has Alonso been on the podium this year?
- 1:15:23No.
- 1:15:24No.
- 1:15:25No, he's not.
- 1:15:26I think his best was fifth or fourth.
- 1:15:27And why did they take such a step backwards, man?
- 1:15:28That's just.
- 1:15:29Wow.
- 1:15:30I honestly think.
- 1:15:31Or is everybody taking that much step forward?
- 1:15:32I actually think they took a step forward from where they were at the end of last year.
- 1:15:35It wasn't a huge step forward and they're already starting to fall behind everyone else.
- 1:15:39I don't think they're good at upgrading through the year and it's showing again, unfortunately.
- 1:15:43That makes sense.
- 1:15:44I missed.
- 1:15:45There was no flags last year, right?
- 1:15:46There was a safety card that was on the back of the car.
- 1:15:49There was a safety card that came out for Russell hitting the wall after getting a curb
- 1:15:55too much.
- 1:15:56He didn't take a ton of damage.
- 1:15:57I mean, he took a wing.
- 1:15:58He got pretty much his wing was gone.
- 1:16:01Funny enough, he retired for something completely different.
- 1:16:03Maybe he got damaged from it too.
- 1:16:05He retired for brake wear, which I haven't really heard of.
- 1:16:08What was the podium last year?
- 1:16:09The podium last year was for stamping Alonso on Hamilton.
- 1:16:14Hamilton?
- 1:16:15How many DRS zones are in this?
- 1:16:16Two.
- 1:16:17Two?
- 1:16:18Obviously the back.
- 1:16:19There's one on the back straight and there's one at the starting line.
- 1:16:23Dude, I really think we-
- 1:16:25That's a really short DRS zone.
- 1:16:27I really think we could see another Red Bull-less podium, to be honest with you.
- 1:16:33I don't think Chacko's going to make it.
- 1:16:35I feel like even though the car isn't going to be at its best, I still think Verstappen
- 1:16:40puts up enough of a fight to maybe-
- 1:16:42I think he still gets the win.
- 1:16:43You think he wins?
- 1:16:44Verstappen?
- 1:16:45Man.
- 1:16:46He was 10 seconds ahead of second place last year.
- 1:16:51Man.
- 1:16:52Different cars.
- 1:16:53How far ahead we see in Monaco last year.
- 1:16:55It's tough.
- 1:16:56I put him in my podium.
- 1:16:57I don't know if I put him in first place.
- 1:16:59I'm not sure.
- 1:17:00I feel like it's really hard to see who else was really good at this race.
- 1:17:05Unfortunately the McLarens, they were still in their bad period last year, but they didn't
- 1:17:09do amazing during the race.
- 1:17:12They lost positions.
- 1:17:14Ferrari looked really strong, so they're in my podium.
- 1:17:16I'll just kind of say my podium prediction right now.
- 1:17:19Go for it now.
- 1:17:20It's going to be Verstappen, McLaren, Sines.
- 1:17:22I don't know if Verstappen wins though.
- 1:17:27I want to put Lando up there, but I don't think he's going to get- he's going to break
- 1:17:32top three.
- 1:17:33I'm hoping fourth or fifth.
- 1:17:35Maybe Oscar fills in that other position.
- 1:17:36We were just talking about this before on the little break we had there.
- 1:17:41Out of all the tracks, this is probably one of the most interesting for fighting and for
- 1:17:46overtakes and everything.
- 1:17:48The back stretch of this track is there's so many in and outs, quick turns.
- 1:17:52There's a DRS right before the last big turn.
- 1:17:55Or not for the last big turn, but that's sector two, if you will, as Tyler pulled it up here.
- 1:18:02There's so many good spots for good fights.
- 1:18:05This isn't a track I think where- if you're good in the corners, this is going to be huge
- 1:18:10in this track, and McLaren is, correct?
- 1:18:14McLaren's good at low and high speed corners.
- 1:18:16That's kind of where they- they don't have the top end Red Bull speed straight line.
- 1:18:20No, it's damn close, but they excel in the high and low speed corners.
- 1:18:24And Smosie was saying-
- 1:18:25Where Mercedes epically fails.
- 1:18:26Smosie was saying Red Bull, as far as the turns on this track, should be a downfall
- 1:18:31on them.
- 1:18:32But as far as racing on this track, I think it's going to be- I don't think there's going
- 1:18:38to be huge gaps between- I won't say the top ten, because that's just not realistic, but
- 1:18:43I mean I think we're going to see some fights here late in the race.
- 1:18:46I think we're going to see a good fight, maybe for first, late in the race.
- 1:18:49Or maybe even first.
- 1:18:50Or first.
- 1:18:51That would be so dope.
- 1:18:52That would be so awesome.
- 1:18:54That would be nice, because you very rarely see a fight for first at the end of the race.
- 1:18:58Usually the leader has kind of gotten, you know, a four or five plus second gap, and
- 1:19:02then you look at, what was it, two races ago when Max and Lando were going at it at the
- 1:19:08end.
- 1:19:09Like that, you just don't see that anymore.
- 1:19:12Especially in the Verstappen dominance era.
- 1:19:14But it's like you just, you very rarely see that fight for first at the end.
- 1:19:17And boy was that exhilarating.
- 1:19:19And this is like a pretty similar track as far as like the DRS spots and the amount of
- 1:19:24turns and stuff.
- 1:19:26I think it might favor Lando a little bit in this track.
- 1:19:28I wouldn't be surprised if we're talking about Lando taking another first, this might be
- 1:19:31the track to do it.
- 1:19:34I mean, I mean, why not?
- 1:19:36I mean, that's kind of my podium.
- 1:19:38Lando, Charles, and I think Max still gets in there.
- 1:19:42But I think we could see a Max-less win.
- 1:19:46I have the same podium, I'll just jump right in.
- 1:19:48I have Verstappen with Claire and Lando as well.
- 1:19:52I think it's just, I think this track speaks very well to Lando.
- 1:19:58You know what?
- 1:19:59I'm going to switch that up.
- 1:20:00I'm going to switch it up.
- 1:20:01I don't know.
- 1:20:02It's kind of locked in stone, but.
- 1:20:03Lando, LeClaire, and Science.
- 1:20:06Lando, LeClaire, and Science.
- 1:20:07Oh, so no Max at all.
- 1:20:08No Red Bull up top here.
- 1:20:09I think this is where, I think this is where Red Bull makes that push.
- 1:20:12And all the news in the back is around Ferrari taking the constructors and Ferrari on the
- 1:20:17uptick.
- 1:20:18Oh buddy.
- 1:20:19Slow down.
- 1:20:20That's spicy.
- 1:20:21Talking about taking a hot lap.
- 1:20:24That's a hot take.
- 1:20:25I think Max comes back real strong this week.
- 1:20:27I got him winning this race.
- 1:20:28I just, there's too much passing opportunity for the Red Bull to excel at what they do
- 1:20:33in that top end.
- 1:20:34Their DRS is unmatched right now.
- 1:20:36So if you can get Max within that second, like he's going to take that spot.
- 1:20:40So I'm with you Smelty.
- 1:20:41I got Verstappen, LeClaire, and Lando.
- 1:20:43I would not be surprised if Pia Stray and Lando both finish in the podium this week.
- 1:20:48That's what I'm saying.
- 1:20:49Why not take it?
- 1:20:50Oscar's looking so much better.
- 1:20:51LeClaire's just been too consistent.
- 1:20:52Yeah, Oscar's been looking a lot better man.
- 1:20:56Like I seriously think he's coming on strong.
- 1:20:58I need to see another bad race from Max before I start taking him out of my podium projection.
- 1:21:02I feel that.
- 1:21:03I can't debase it off of one race.
- 1:21:04I feel that, but especially in a race that's...
- 1:21:07But Nautico's straight qualifying bro.
- 1:21:09I mean yes, it's, I mean you got to have the car too right?
- 1:21:12It's not just skill.
- 1:21:13You got to have a good car there, but...
- 1:21:15But you put Max, you have Max start, you know, even P6 and any other track, he's finishing
- 1:21:19in the podium.
- 1:21:20Yeah.
- 1:21:21I would agree with that.
- 1:21:22I just think, I just think I've said this I think every week.
- 1:21:25Because I want it to happen so bad.
- 1:21:28Zions finally makes a return to the podium.
- 1:21:30He's got to do it.
- 1:21:31Zions?
- 1:21:32Well he finished on the podium last week brother.
- 1:21:33No, I mean like, yeah, but I mean it was freaking Monaco.
- 1:21:36Everybody like, people finished where they started.
- 1:21:37It didn't count.
- 1:21:38It doesn't count.
- 1:21:39But before then, when's his last podium?
- 1:21:41Before that race?
- 1:21:42Japan.
- 1:21:43How long goes that?
- 1:21:44A couple races.
- 1:21:45Three races before.
- 1:21:46Four races before.
- 1:21:47That's more so, Monaco, I mean, even Max was like, I should have brought my pillow.
- 1:21:51He's raced in seven races this year and gotten on a podium in four of them.
- 1:21:54Yeah, but the first three, that's my point though, more so.
- 1:21:57I'm going to exclude Monaco from this.
- 1:22:00The first three races.
- 1:22:01So he's three for six.
- 1:22:02So the first three races though, right?
- 1:22:03That's a pretty good percentage.
- 1:22:04Ah, well he didn't race the second one because of his appendix.
- 1:22:08So the first three races he raced.
- 1:22:10He started off the season very hot.
- 1:22:11I think he comes back up and finishes hot again.
- 1:22:14I think we do see more consistent finishing from Zions.
- 1:22:17I would agree with that.
- 1:22:18Like, as the season continues to progress.
- 1:22:20I don't see very many races where Ferrari, both Ferrari drivers are outside the top five
- 1:22:24at this point.
- 1:22:25I would agree.
- 1:22:26I would agree.
- 1:22:27It's literally Max versus the McLarens and the Ferraris.
- 1:22:28And that's your top five every race.
- 1:22:31Where do you have?
- 1:22:32Straight up.
- 1:22:33So then I got to ask, Checo, where do you have him this race?
- 1:22:36Five through seven.
- 1:22:38I think that's a fair statement.
- 1:22:40I think it would surprise the heck out of me if he drove the heck out of it and got
- 1:22:45four.
- 1:22:46But I just don't think he can finish that high right now.
- 1:22:49I don't see him finishing above the McLarens or Ferraris.
- 1:22:51And he's never going to beat Max.
- 1:22:53I think we could see Checo return to the podium.
- 1:22:57I don't know.
- 1:22:58But I think we could see Checo return to the top five in Spain.
- 1:23:01He will return back to the podium this year for sure.
- 1:23:03I would think so.
- 1:23:04Street track.
- 1:23:05When's the next street track?
- 1:23:06Yeah, when that happens, I'm not sure.
- 1:23:08It's not Singapore.
- 1:23:09I mean, he's...
- 1:23:10Azerbaijan.
- 1:23:11Oh, Baku.
- 1:23:12I love Baku.
- 1:23:13And that's in a minute.
- 1:23:14It's one...
- 1:23:15I love Baku.
- 1:23:16Minute.
- 1:23:17It's a minute away.
- 1:23:18It's a minute away.
- 1:23:19It's a minute away.
- 1:23:20So...
- 1:23:21It's halfway through September, homie.
- 1:23:23Yeah.
- 1:23:24That's one he'll be in my top three prediction.
- 1:23:26Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:23:27That's fair.
- 1:23:28I think Checo...
- 1:23:30I think what Tyler said is perfect.
- 1:23:32I think Ferrari is consistently in the top five.
- 1:23:34I think...
- 1:23:35And I think it's going to hurt Red Bull.
- 1:23:37Because I don't think Max is going to...
- 1:23:39Like, out of the next three, four races, Max wins two or three of them.
- 1:23:45I think he wins at least two.
- 1:23:46Yeah.
- 1:23:47I think he wins for either the next four, Canada, Spain, Australia, and then...
- 1:23:51No, Austria.
- 1:23:52Austria.
- 1:23:53Austria.
- 1:23:54My bad.
- 1:23:55Australia.
- 1:23:56Lord.
- 1:23:57Austria.
- 1:23:58Max is going to take Austria.
- 1:23:59It's Red Bull's turn.
- 1:24:00Yeah.
- 1:24:01Yeah.
- 1:24:02So I have him in there and I have him at Britain.
- 1:24:03He could probably win Silver Silver.
- 1:24:04Did Ferrari look good in Austria last year?
- 1:24:05We can talk about when we get to Austria, but...
- 1:24:07Yeah, we'll get there, but...
- 1:24:08I have a quick question.
- 1:24:10We kind of talked about in constructors, but I feel like I'm still waiting for...
- 1:24:14This race, I think, is going to...I'm hoping it kind of solidifies the idea for me.
- 1:24:21Do we think Ferrari is for sure the better car than McLaren right now?
- 1:24:25No, not for me.
- 1:24:27No.
- 1:24:28So are they pretty even, Keel, right now?
- 1:24:31Or is one slightly better?
- 1:24:34I think the only thing that makes Ferrari slightly better is not the car, it's the drivers
- 1:24:37right now.
- 1:24:38I would agree with that.
- 1:24:39Oh, that hurts to hear, but I think you're probably right.
- 1:24:41I think Lando and Leclerc are equals at this point in terms of their drivers.
- 1:24:45But Science is definitely better than the Astra.
- 1:24:46I give it to Leclerc over Lando.
- 1:24:47I don't know.
- 1:24:48I don't think Leclerc is consistent with Lando.
- 1:24:51I give it to Carlos over Oscar, so I guess I do view Ferrari a little bit better than
- 1:24:57McLaren.
- 1:24:58I think the cars are similar, but I think the skill of the Ferrari drivers does trump
- 1:25:03McLaren just by sliver, but I think they are better.
- 1:25:07That's a hurt.
- 1:25:08That's the experience, that's everything.
- 1:25:09I think Ferrari, they have two better drivers.
- 1:25:11I think Lando is just a step behind Leclerc as far as that.
- 1:25:16I think he's better than Science.
- 1:25:17I think Lando is the number one driver on most teams though, for sure.
- 1:25:21If he was put on different teams?
- 1:25:22Other than Red Bull, Mercedes, with Max, Ferrari.
- 1:25:26With Mercedes, he's the number one driver over Lewis this year.
- 1:25:30100% Lando, yeah.
- 1:25:31I just think I've seen enough from him.
- 1:25:34I was going to say with George, he's the number one.
- 1:25:39Let him be the number one driver with Lewis, I think he's better than Lewis this year.
- 1:25:43Lewis is two years away from his seventh championship.
- 1:25:46That's fine.
- 1:25:47Three years away from his seventh championship.
- 1:25:48That's fine.
- 1:25:49Come on.
- 1:25:50That's fine.
- 1:25:51I'm not saying.
- 1:25:52You ain't listening, cuz.
- 1:25:54I'm saying you put Lando on the same team as Lewis, I don't think he's the number one
- 1:25:58driver.
- 1:25:59I think they're equals.
- 1:26:00I don't think there is a number one driver.
- 1:26:02If you put Lando...
- 1:26:03I think so.
- 1:26:04That's not even a hot take that's gibberish.
- 1:26:06That's fine.
- 1:26:07That's fine.
- 1:26:08Let's say we put Lando and Lewis in the Mercedes right now.
- 1:26:11Or even in the McLaren.
- 1:26:12Well then Lewis is winning in the Mercedes over Lando.
- 1:26:15I disagree.
- 1:26:16I think Lando's taking the wins in Mercedes over Lewis.
- 1:26:19In the Mercedes over Lewis?
- 1:26:20Okay.
- 1:26:21This year.
- 1:26:22The Mercedes ain't winning nothing.
- 1:26:23This year.
- 1:26:24Okay.
- 1:26:25Put them both in McLaren then.
- 1:26:26I think Lando is still doing better than Lewis this year.
- 1:26:29No.
- 1:26:30No, she's not.
- 1:26:31I think she's a car maybe in the first half of the season.
- 1:26:33Let's say they both have been in the car for two years.
- 1:26:35I'm taking Lewis all day.
- 1:26:36I'm not.
- 1:26:37He's still a step back.
- 1:26:38He's a step back.
- 1:26:39I gotta ask on this point.
- 1:26:41Are you saying up until this point in the year you think the rest of the season he finishes
- 1:26:44higher in the points?
- 1:26:45Up until this point.
- 1:26:46So where's your prediction?
- 1:26:47They're in the same car right now.
- 1:26:49Let's say McLaren because they're actually getting good points.
- 1:26:53Up until this point in the year let's say you give Lando a couple points.
- 1:26:55Do you see where Piastri is right now for McLaren?
- 1:26:57That's where Lewis is right now if he's in the McLaren with him.
- 1:27:00So let's finish out the season then.
- 1:27:01Let's say we go to the end of the season.
- 1:27:03Let's look forward 15 races.
- 1:27:04You wildin'.
- 1:27:05Let's look forward 15 races, right?
- 1:27:08Is Lewis finishing higher than Lando by the end of the season in the same car?
- 1:27:14110%.
- 1:27:15That's why Lewis is the number one driver any car he goes to.
- 1:27:19Man.
- 1:27:20He's not gonna be the number one driver at Ferrari.
- 1:27:22Yeah he will.
- 1:27:24Guys, guys, I'm sorry.
- 1:27:26I just, no way.
- 1:27:27I don't think Ferrari's gonna favor one or the other.
- 1:27:29Sure, I think that.
- 1:27:30I think they'll be on equal playing field.
- 1:27:32So hold on, hold on though.
- 1:27:33Because I gotta go back to his point.
- 1:27:35He is three years off of his seventh championship, right?
- 1:27:40It's still Lewis Hamilton.
- 1:27:41He's having a rough start to the season.
- 1:27:44He will put it together.
- 1:27:45By the end of the year he will be above Russell in points.
- 1:27:47He'll be fighting up closer to that sixth spot.
- 1:27:50I'm gonna say something that's really gonna frustrate you.
- 1:27:52I think Fernando is just at the same point as Lewis.
- 1:27:56I think if you put Lewis in the same seat as Fernando, I think they would perform the
- 1:28:00same.
- 1:28:01Is that even hot takes or something?
- 1:28:04I just think Lewis is getting to that point in his career.
- 1:28:06I think he's still skilled.
- 1:28:07I think he's gonna score plenty of points in a Ferrari car.
- 1:28:10Do you think he wins an eighth drivers?
- 1:28:13I'd love to see it.
- 1:28:14Do you think he wins an eighth drivers championship?
- 1:28:17No.
- 1:28:18I'd love to see it.
- 1:28:20But no.
- 1:28:21I don't.
- 1:28:22So you think he's past his prime?
- 1:28:23Max is way too much of a problem right now.
- 1:28:24He's past his prime.
- 1:28:25He's done.
- 1:28:26I don't think he's.
- 1:28:27I guess.
- 1:28:28I guess.
- 1:28:29I guess he's past his prime.
- 1:28:30I guess he's past his prime.
- 1:28:31But with Max on the grid, I don't think Lewis wins another championship.
- 1:28:35You don't pay a man that much money if he's out of his prime.
- 1:28:39Again, I'd love to see it though.
- 1:28:41I'd love to see him win eighth, especially in a Ferrari after winning so many in a Mercedes
- 1:28:46of course.
- 1:28:47I'm with you.
- 1:28:48Just for the sport.
- 1:28:49Just for the sport.
- 1:28:50I'd love to see it.
- 1:28:51So where do you guys rank Lewis?
- 1:28:52Let's just build a wall, homie.
- 1:28:53So of.
- 1:28:54So where would you rank Lewis on the grid right now?
- 1:29:00Everybody has equal cars.
- 1:29:01Oh man.
- 1:29:02So who's one?
- 1:29:03I think that's pretty obvious at this point.
- 1:29:05Max is one.
- 1:29:06Equal cars?
- 1:29:07Equal cars.
- 1:29:08I'm still taking Max just to his aggressive.
- 1:29:09Equal cars.
- 1:29:10I'm taking Max still.
- 1:29:11So who's two?
- 1:29:12I think his aggressiveness hurts him in equal cars.
- 1:29:15No, no, no, no.
- 1:29:17That doesn't make sense.
- 1:29:19Because he's going to be aggressive.
- 1:29:21I have no idea who to say who's two is.
- 1:29:24Really wants to take Charles.
- 1:29:27This is a no brainer boys.
- 1:29:29It's Lewis freaking Hamilton.
- 1:29:30But what is he doing this year?
- 1:29:33Right?
- 1:29:34But in a shitty car.
- 1:29:35It's a bad car.
- 1:29:36It's a bad car.
- 1:29:37100%.
- 1:29:38Not even that.
- 1:29:39Let's compare him with Russell.
- 1:29:40Look at him the last couple of years.
- 1:29:41He has started off every season the last two or three years in this car bad the start of
- 1:29:44the season.
- 1:29:45Has he?
- 1:29:46Every single season.
- 1:29:47The last three years when he hasn't won a championship.
- 1:29:49Who, Lewis?
- 1:29:50Yes.
- 1:29:51He's been really, really rough.
- 1:29:52And then he literally just has an upward trajectory the rest of the season for sure.
- 1:29:57I would agree with that.
- 1:29:59He gets warm.
- 1:30:00Knocks the rough stuff from last season.
- 1:30:02It's not the rough I don't think.
- 1:30:03I think it's the car.
- 1:30:04It's the upgrades.
- 1:30:05I'm just feeling something different this year from a man.
- 1:30:08So right now, on the grid.
- 1:30:09I'm not saying he's going to lose a spot on the grid anytime soon.
- 1:30:12Like Tyler said.
- 1:30:13Your top three drivers.
- 1:30:14Ready?
- 1:30:15Your top three drivers in the same car.
- 1:30:17Who are they?
- 1:30:18They're all in the same car.
- 1:30:19Who's your top three drivers?
- 1:30:20Lewis.
- 1:30:21Okay.
- 1:30:22I don't want to play this game anymore.
- 1:30:24And Lando's at fourth.
- 1:30:25He doesn't want to play it.
- 1:30:26What are you talking about?
- 1:30:27Fourth?
- 1:30:28It's Max.
- 1:30:29I think it'd be pretty close.
- 1:30:31I think Fernando's up there somewhere.
- 1:30:33But not top three.
- 1:30:34I could tell you top four.
- 1:30:36I don't know if I could.
- 1:30:37Go ahead.
- 1:30:38It's Max, LeClair, Lando, and Lewis probably.
- 1:30:40So you've got Lando above Lewis.
- 1:30:41In the top, in the same car.
- 1:30:43In the same car.
- 1:30:44What are we talking about here guys?
- 1:30:47Dude, he just has it.
- 1:30:49Lewis, Fernando, LeClair, and Lando aren't even above Fernando.
- 1:30:53Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:54I agree entirely with Tyler.
- 1:30:55It is Max.
- 1:30:56Who'd you say?
- 1:30:57Lewis.
- 1:30:58Max, Lewis, and who's your third?
- 1:30:59Fernando.
- 1:31:00Oh, okay.
- 1:31:01Thank you.
- 1:31:02I thought you said Lando.
- 1:31:03No, no, no.
- 1:31:04I got Max, Lewis, Fernando, LeClair, Lando.
- 1:31:06Absolutely.
- 1:31:07And I think if you put them all in the same car, Max, Lewis, and Alonzo, because throw
- 1:31:12me off there saying Fernando.
- 1:31:13Throw me off that you're saying his first name, buddy.
- 1:31:18If you put them in the same car, I think those three are fighting for race wins every week.
- 1:31:23100%.
- 1:31:24Against each other.
- 1:31:25I don't think, I think LeClair might, LeClair, Lando.
- 1:31:27Might podium or something.
- 1:31:28They pop in for podiums, but if you put them all in the same car, those three, I agree
- 1:31:32entirely with Tyler, those three are consistently, you're fighting for first.
- 1:31:36One of those three will get first every race of season.
- 1:31:39So Alonzo should just be in that second Red Bull seat then.
- 1:31:42I think it is one of the dumbest things Alonzo could do is sign a multiple year deal with
- 1:31:47Justin.
- 1:31:48I don't understand that unless it's simply for money.
- 1:31:50It ain't for legacy.
- 1:31:51I'll say Alonzo, Alonzo and Lewis in the same car as Max, give Max a run for his money at
- 1:31:56the driver standings.
- 1:31:57I would agree.
- 1:31:58And I would say Alonzo more so than Lewis, not because Alonzo's a better driver, because
- 1:32:02Alonzo will match Max's aggressiveness.
- 1:32:04They're kind of convincing me a little bit.
- 1:32:07That's fair.
- 1:32:08That's cool.
- 1:32:09Alonzo, yeah, because now I'm thinking about other drivers.
- 1:32:11Alonzo was just an incredible driver.
- 1:32:13He really is.
- 1:32:14He has been a lot of time.
- 1:32:15You can't disagree with me that Lewis's performance at the start of this year has not been good
- 1:32:20despite the car.
- 1:32:21100% I would agree with you.
- 1:32:22His teammates are not that much higher than him, but he's still better than him.
- 1:32:26But at the end of the year, like if we look at last year's just standings, right?
- 1:32:30So George was ahead of Lewis for the majority of the year and ended, Lewis ended up finishing
- 1:32:38five spots in front of him in the WDC.
- 1:32:41Lewis was third behind him.
- 1:32:42Lewis got third in the WDC last year in that car.
- 1:32:45Yeah.
- 1:32:46Well, the second half of the season, the Mercedes was, oh wait, was it getting better or was
- 1:32:51it getting worse?
- 1:32:52It was getting better, yes.
- 1:32:53It was getting better, but not crazy.
- 1:32:54But it was, I don't think it was getting, it wasn't reaching the levels that the Red
- 1:32:59Bull, the Ferrari, the McLaren would bring in terms of the upgrades.
- 1:33:03The only reason Lando finished as low as he did last year was simply because of the first
- 1:33:07half of the year.
- 1:33:08For sure.
- 1:33:09You know, you give Lando that car the whole year, he's finishing third or fourth.
- 1:33:12But if you give Lewis that car last year, he's still, you know, like.
- 1:33:16I don't see that change.
- 1:33:17I don't see Lewis's play changing.
- 1:33:18Let's have this same exact conversation after the season is over and see, and seeing where
- 1:33:24Lewis is because I am, I'm worried.
- 1:33:27I want Lewis, I want everything you guys want.
- 1:33:31I just don't know if it's going to happen.
- 1:33:32Lewis might end up fourth or fifth by the end of the year.
- 1:33:34What if Lewis is behind Russell by the end of the year?
- 1:33:36I also wouldn't be surprised by that because at the end of the day, Lewis knows that his
- 1:33:40time in Mercedes is done.
- 1:33:41He's going to put, he's going to try to get George in the best position he can to be propelled.
- 1:33:45Do you really think?
- 1:33:46I do.
- 1:33:47Lewis, Lewis, the thing about Lewis, man, he's never been like a self-centered, super egotistical,
- 1:33:51like it's all about me.
- 1:33:52He's always been a team guy.
- 1:33:53Now, Brandon has been in his favor.
- 1:33:55He may not be on the team next year, but what is the benefit of pushing Russell this year
- 1:33:59then if he can still get like good points?
- 1:34:03To set up Mercedes for success for the going forward.
- 1:34:06This is like, this is like with any football team that ever lived, all the great quarterbacks,
- 1:34:10all the great backups followed a great quarterback.
- 1:34:14All the great, all the great, everything fought.
- 1:34:16Like the reason that Lewis, I mean, the biggest role that Lewis is playing this year is for
- 1:34:20Russell.
- 1:34:21That's his only role this year.
- 1:34:22Is it mentor?
- 1:34:23They know they're not going to win races.
- 1:34:24They know they're not going to take.
- 1:34:25Yeah, they know that.
- 1:34:26They know that they're, they know they probably know they're not going to be top three in
- 1:34:28the constructors.
- 1:34:30So the only role that Lewis is playing for Mercedes this year is to help develop Russell
- 1:34:34even more to one day hold that driver's championship.
- 1:34:40I would agree with that.
- 1:34:41A hundred percent.
- 1:34:42We're going to leave it right there after starting that fire for Lewis going into Ferrari
- 1:34:45next year.
- 1:34:47And according to Joe and I probably not being in that top two driver conversation and allegedly
- 1:34:52the other side of the table is, is, is, is a different.
- 1:34:55So with that, unless you've, you've changed now.
- 1:35:00I'm I'm just, I don't know what to say.
- 1:35:03I don't know.
- 1:35:04I don't think I want to say it.
- 1:35:05I don't know what to say anymore.
- 1:35:06I just, I want to just caveat.
- 1:35:08I love Lewis to death, like Mercedes by far.
- 1:35:10I mean, arguably my second favorite team, like, and Lewis is the main, main point of
- 1:35:16that.
- 1:35:17I just, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:35:18I think he's lost a little bit of a spark.
- 1:35:19I don't know.
- 1:35:20I got a final point on this.
- 1:35:22Sure.
- 1:35:23And this is where I think it might just switch you right over to my side, our side.
- 1:35:27Okay.
- 1:35:28Sebastian Vettel.
- 1:35:29If you put him, that's a different conversation.
- 1:35:32No, it's not though, because if you put him in this, in any car in the same car as all
- 1:35:36these guys, he's still above a Clarenland.
- 1:35:39Okay.
- 1:35:40You lost me actually.
- 1:35:41Oh, why?
- 1:35:42You completely lost me.
- 1:35:43I think he could fight for a top six.
- 1:35:44But yeah, let's table that.
- 1:35:45Let's table that.
- 1:35:46You had me on your side calling, but I am off the.
- 1:35:51You lost me.
- 1:35:52Done.
- 1:35:53She's done.
- 1:35:54With that, obviously like, comment, subscribe, Spotify, YouTube, wherever you get the banter.
- 1:36:00And we'll see you after Canada for more Fast Lapse.
- 1:36:03Peace.
