- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second to day free
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as puppis left to right,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Julius Jones were single setback Matt Pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpus with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppus and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What, folks,
- 0:34Speaker 1: this is Michael Bumpus and you're listening to Hawk Talk
- 0:36Speaker 1: the recap edition. The Seahawks beat the Vikings thirty seven
- 0:40Speaker 1: to thirty on Monday night football, propelled themselves in the
- 0:43Speaker 1: first place into the division. This morning, we're gonna talk
- 0:46Speaker 1: to mister Paul Moria. How you doing today, Paul Man
- 0:50Speaker 1: couldn't be better, it was. That was a fun night
- 0:52Speaker 1: last night. Great night last night. Hawks, get it done.
- 0:56Speaker 1: What are you seeing out of this team right now?
- 0:58Speaker 1: What's what's the identity of this fool team involved? Well,
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think the big identity is just go find a
- 1:04Speaker 1: way to win the game, and it doesn't matter how
- 1:06Speaker 1: but as you start to get through three quarters of
- 1:10Speaker 1: the season, you know you're starting to see some some
- 1:13Speaker 1: some common themes here. We're going to run the football
- 1:17Speaker 1: and that's kind of been the theme for the last
- 1:19Speaker 1: ten years here with Pete Carroll, and we're going to
- 1:23Speaker 1: play really good defense, and that's finally over the last
- 1:26Speaker 1: three games we're seeing that too. And when I'm seeing
- 1:29Speaker 1: I'll start with the defensive side. The first part is
- 1:32Speaker 1: we're making teams one dimensional. We're going to stop the
- 1:35Speaker 1: running game. And then we've played three teams in a
- 1:37Speaker 1: row now San Francisco, Philadelphia, Minnesota, who all run the
- 1:41Speaker 1: ball very well. We shut that down and made them
- 1:44Speaker 1: go to what really they don't want to do, and
- 1:46Speaker 1: that's throw the ball down field because that creates a
- 1:50Speaker 1: turnover opportunities and sack opportunities. So we finally have seen that,
- 1:55Speaker 1: which I thought the defense struggled obviously the first half
- 1:59Speaker 1: of the season. And then offensively it's it's here. I mean,
- 2:03Speaker 1: we rush for a two hundred and eighteen yards last
- 2:06Speaker 1: night against one of the best defenses in the league,
- 2:09Speaker 1: particularly against the rush, a great front seven We've got
- 2:13Speaker 1: this two headed monster now with Penny and Carson, which
- 2:17Speaker 1: is fun to watch. And then when teams finally do
- 2:20Speaker 1: they say, okay, we've got to commit to stop in
- 2:23Speaker 1: the run, which they get nervous about. Now you got
- 2:26Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and we saw that when you give him
- 2:29Speaker 1: an opportunity, David Moore and him connect on a sixty
- 2:32Speaker 1: yard touchdown. This team's clicking on all cylinders. And we
- 2:36Speaker 1: still haven't played our best football yet and that's what's exciting.
- 2:40Speaker 1: There's still a ceiling ahead. Two weeks in the road.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Trey Flowers has come up with an interception. He's made
- 2:46Speaker 1: the adjustment from safety to quarner. What do you see now,
- 2:49Speaker 1: this guy that's putting him in position to make these plays.
- 2:52Speaker 1: You know in Bugs we've talked about this. You know,
- 2:55Speaker 1: there's so much is about confidence. You know, here's a
- 2:58Speaker 1: guy who's a year and a half experience of playing corner.
- 3:02Speaker 1: You know, it converted safety. You know in college as
- 3:05Speaker 1: a tough transition. You can do it for a game
- 3:08Speaker 1: or two. I've seen guys do that. Heck, I even
- 3:11Speaker 1: played corner a little bit in the NFL, which God
- 3:14Speaker 1: profid you don't want to do too much. Um, But
- 3:16Speaker 1: you go a full season and a half, people start
- 3:19Speaker 1: to find your weaknesses. Well, his is completely different. I
- 3:23Speaker 1: mean he's found his strengths. Um. He's very good long arms,
- 3:27Speaker 1: he bump, you know, good bumping a run guy can
- 3:30Speaker 1: definitely shield that that deep throw. But he's starting to
- 3:33Speaker 1: trust the routes. He's starting to see when guys you know,
- 3:37Speaker 1: chop their feet for the comebacks, you know, when they
- 3:40Speaker 1: run their out routes, when they go and stem for
- 3:42Speaker 1: their their go routes. And now you're seeing him being
- 3:45Speaker 1: confident and trusting it. And he's you know, he's got
- 3:47Speaker 1: it's what three interceptions. Now he's a tough guy mentally
- 3:51Speaker 1: and physically. And I can't you know, which may have
- 3:55Speaker 1: been a weakness coming into this year with Griffin and
- 3:58Speaker 1: Flowers at corner has turned out to be a strength
- 4:00Speaker 1: of the Seahawks defense. Yeah, I like those corners. Um.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So Jamarco Jones got some reps switching in with DJ Fluker.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Did you like seeing that? I love it? Um, And
- 4:10Speaker 1: partly why I love it is Yeah, the first one
- 4:13Speaker 1: is I think Jamarco Jones, at one point when he
- 4:15Speaker 1: was playing, was playing as well as anybody on our
- 4:19Speaker 1: offensive line. Mat fact, you can make a case that
- 4:22Speaker 1: he was playing the best of anybody on our offensive line.
- 4:25Speaker 1: He is technically so sound, and you know his future
- 4:29Speaker 1: is bright. They're gonna they're gonna find a spot for
- 4:31Speaker 1: him at some point, if not this year, next year.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But the other part is, you know, they're always compete
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the to light of fire under people. Um you know,
- 4:40Speaker 1: not that Fluker needs that fire, but just didn't know, Hey,
- 4:43Speaker 1: just because you're a veteran, um, you've kind of played
- 4:45Speaker 1: at your best. And if you don't, you know, we're
- 4:48Speaker 1: gonna put other guys in there to compete. And it's
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's not a negative. And that's the thing I love
- 4:52Speaker 1: about what Pete Carroll does is he turns competition into
- 4:56Speaker 1: a positive. And there's some programs it's a negative. You know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: there's that entitlement that you know, I'm a starter, I'm
- 5:03Speaker 1: a veteran. You know you can't challenge me. Well, on
- 5:06Speaker 1: this team, anybody can be challenged. And and we've seen
- 5:09Speaker 1: Fluker's play get better. But the first series, when I
- 5:13Speaker 1: saw Jamarco Jones in the game, he pushed the defensive
- 5:17Speaker 1: tackle really wide and created space and it was Carson's
- 5:21Speaker 1: best run at that point of the game. So again
- 5:24Speaker 1: it's just, hey, no man is free to just have
- 5:28Speaker 1: an open spot. There's competition every single week. Nobody's safe.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So Cody Barton got some reps during this game, How
- 5:36Speaker 1: important is that going for going into the future for
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Seahawks with kJ getting older, wife getting older, can
- 5:43Speaker 1: just getting older. How how important is it that with
- 5:44Speaker 1: Cody Barton got some reps last night? Well, I think
- 5:47Speaker 1: it's it's really important. And you know, you can even
- 5:50Speaker 1: throw it with Penny and Carson. You know, you know
- 5:52Speaker 1: last week Penny got you know, the majority of the
- 5:55Speaker 1: of the carries and then you know, Carson, you're still
- 5:58Speaker 1: our starter, but you know, you got to play to
- 6:00Speaker 1: a high level always and more part, we've got to
- 6:03Speaker 1: also develop guys behind you, and we thought we're seeing
- 6:08Speaker 1: that with Jamarco Jones. It in colleges, it's critical, and
- 6:13Speaker 1: there's so many programs that never play their freshman a
- 6:16Speaker 1: snap and then all of a sudden the next year,
- 6:18Speaker 1: they've got to be a starter instead of playing them,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you know, five six reps a game just to get
- 6:24Speaker 1: a feel for what the game's like. And that's what
- 6:26Speaker 1: you're getting with Barton two, you know, and kJ is older.
- 6:30Speaker 1: You know, Bobby Wagner's older. You know, these guys need
- 6:33Speaker 1: a break in a game, you know, even if it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: five six plays or maybe even a series off, just
- 6:38Speaker 1: to see what's going on mentally, but more importantly next year,
- 6:43Speaker 1: if Barton is a starter, it's not so foreign to him.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He's actually had an opportunity to play, and I think
- 6:49Speaker 1: that's critical in development. Now. Some are saying Russell Wilson
- 6:52Speaker 1: didn't have a great game. I thought he had an
- 6:54Speaker 1: all right game. How would you evaluating great Russell Wilson's
- 6:57Speaker 1: play last night? I thought he was pretty good. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: was so hyped up on that game somehow I made
- 7:04Speaker 1: it and actually watched the whole game again last night. Um,
- 7:09Speaker 1: because the coverage down field was really good. I mean
- 7:12Speaker 1: they and they were playing a shell you know cover
- 7:15Speaker 1: too almost the whole game. And that's why we had
- 7:17Speaker 1: so much success on the run. Again, they just did
- 7:19Speaker 1: not want to give up the deep throw, which they
- 7:22Speaker 1: really only gave up one. There were some tough throws. Um.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I did think he didn't see some guys who were open.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I thought maybe he stayed on his primary a little
- 7:30Speaker 1: bit too long, didn't come backside. But you know, Russell's
- 7:35Speaker 1: Russell at the end of the day still had two touchdowns. Um,
- 7:38Speaker 1: he had the one crazy interception. I even want to
- 7:40Speaker 1: call it interception. That was a fluke. You know. We
- 7:43Speaker 1: put up you know, thirty seven points on the sixth
- 7:48Speaker 1: best scoring defense in the league. Pretty pretty job, well done.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Well four games left in the end in this season. Um,
- 7:57Speaker 1: what's one or two things you think the Hogs need
- 8:00Speaker 1: to improve on before hitting the playoffs. Oh, there's a
- 8:04Speaker 1: good one. Um, just making the play. I know this
- 8:09Speaker 1: is kind of a weird one, but just making the
- 8:12Speaker 1: routine plays. Um. You know we're still dropping passes that
- 8:16Speaker 1: I think are there for the taking. Um. Our young
- 8:20Speaker 1: guys Carson uh And and DK Metcalf, you know, not fumbling,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you know, just we got to protect the football. I
- 8:27Speaker 1: think those are the two big things. If we do that.
- 8:30Speaker 1: We do that last night. Just make the routine catches again.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We've had this conversation a bunch. And not not give
- 8:36Speaker 1: the ball away needlessly. You know, we make the games
- 8:40Speaker 1: a lot easier. Uh. You know, we we had the
- 8:42Speaker 1: one breakdown in coverage. I don't think that's going to
- 8:46Speaker 1: happen often, you know, whether they just couldn't hear you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: the people forget it. The crab noise is awesome for
- 8:52Speaker 1: the for the offense, uh you know, or the defense
- 8:55Speaker 1: for for get off. You know. In the pass rush,
- 8:58Speaker 1: it's really hard on the secondary to make checks. And
- 9:02Speaker 1: in that game, I think one guy couldn't hear it
- 9:05Speaker 1: or didn't get the check properly, and they had a
- 9:07Speaker 1: busted coverage and we gave up a quick score. And
- 9:10Speaker 1: that's what happened early in the season, and we can't
- 9:13Speaker 1: have that. So I think we're good enough football team
- 9:16Speaker 1: to go out and win. But we got to do
- 9:18Speaker 1: just the little things, the easy plays, you know, no
- 9:21Speaker 1: breakdowns in the secondary. We shore all that up. We're
- 9:25Speaker 1: gonna be a tough team to beat. There you go.
- 9:27Speaker 1: You heard it from pal Marry. Paul. Thank you for
- 9:29Speaker 1: taking time. I know you're a busy man. All right, man,
- 9:32Speaker 1: pleasure always fun. All right, talk to you soon, Paul. Thanks.
- 9:36Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna move along to our main takeaways.
- 9:39Speaker 1: What do we learn from this game? Another prime time game,
- 9:42Speaker 1: another prime time win. It really is just another game.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It seems like over here. Yes, I mean every week
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean the numbers, don't. I mean once at some
- 9:51Speaker 1: point it's no longer again and homily it's expected. I mean,
- 9:55Speaker 1: the Seahawks improved twenty six and ten in Monday night football,
- 9:58Speaker 1: which is the best record in the NFL in NFL history,
- 10:01Speaker 1: which is it's which just stunning, and it's even better
- 10:03Speaker 1: and that includes a whole franchise, not all on what
- 10:05Speaker 1: Pete's just done. So it's I mean, it's always another
- 10:08Speaker 1: week out here and you just expect it. Now. Since
- 10:10Speaker 1: twenty twelve, the Seahawks have forty eight wins and the
- 10:13Speaker 1: months of November through January, which leads the NFL. I'm
- 10:19Speaker 1: starting to think maybe this is a pretty good franchise.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't think this franchise gets the respect that it deserves.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Is at the location, is at the style of play?
- 10:27Speaker 1: What do you think it is about this team? I
- 10:29Speaker 1: don't know, man. I mean, obviously the Patriots in our
- 10:31Speaker 1: classes themselves, so with all the championship they've won, But
- 10:34Speaker 1: other than the New England Patriots, the best team in
- 10:37Speaker 1: the NFL over the last ten years has been the Seahawks.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And it's not close. Whether it's double digit win seasons,
- 10:42Speaker 1: whether there's playoff appearances, whether it's Super Bowl appearances, whether
- 10:46Speaker 1: it's their performance on primetime games. They are such a
- 10:49Speaker 1: solid team and they always get better in the stretch.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Run and that statue just gave us spoke to that
- 10:54Speaker 1: the hawksprew once again. They can run the ball against anybody,
- 10:57Speaker 1: doesn't matter if they have a top five defense. The
- 10:58Speaker 1: Seahawks two hundred and nineteen rush chards against the Vikings
- 11:03Speaker 1: last night, two nineteen, and they did it with two backs.
- 11:07Speaker 1: It wasn't just Chris Carson. Penny got involved, Russell did
- 11:10Speaker 1: his thing, had a couple of runs. I like what
- 11:12Speaker 1: I'm seeing out of this backfield. And now with you
- 11:14Speaker 1: with the emergence of Penny, that takes some pressure off
- 11:17Speaker 1: of Carson to have to make the big play every
- 11:19Speaker 1: single time. Well, it's great too. And this is this
- 11:21Speaker 1: had to have been what the Seahawks envisioned when they
- 11:23Speaker 1: drafted Penny. You know, Carson was the seventh round guy.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They didn't really know what they were gonna get. He
- 11:27Speaker 1: kind of showed some great things his first season, then
- 11:29Speaker 1: he got hurt, then he came back, and last year,
- 11:32Speaker 1: last year he took off goes for over one thousand yards.
- 11:34Speaker 1: This year, he's very close to that. But last night
- 11:36Speaker 1: was great because typically it's either been Carson had a
- 11:39Speaker 1: really good game and we didn't hear from Penny or
- 11:41Speaker 1: Penny Flash and Carson was kind of in the river
- 11:45Speaker 1: mirror last night. It was great because both of them
- 11:47Speaker 1: were on their game. I love it because Chris Carson's
- 11:50Speaker 1: not having to carry the ball thirty times. It's a
- 11:52Speaker 1: great change of pace with the style. So you just
- 11:54Speaker 1: you gotta love what you saw from both those guys
- 11:55Speaker 1: last night. And Penny got involved in the past game.
- 11:57Speaker 1: He had over a hundred all purpose shards, so that's
- 12:00Speaker 1: awesome as well. Seahawks dominated the time of possession thirty
- 12:03Speaker 1: nine minutes to twenty minutes. That must be frustrating for
- 12:07Speaker 1: an offense to have to sit there and watch this
- 12:10Speaker 1: team methodically move the ball down the field and get
- 12:12Speaker 1: into many third and short situations. And I think that's
- 12:15Speaker 1: a testament to that run game. When you can run
- 12:17Speaker 1: the fullball in first and second down, you're gonna get
- 12:19Speaker 1: third and short, and that opens up the playbook and
- 12:21Speaker 1: puts pressure on that defense. Well, you gotta look at
- 12:24Speaker 1: their dear drive summary. They had the first touchdown drive,
- 12:27Speaker 1: they had fourteen play seventy five yards, eight minutes off
- 12:30Speaker 1: the clock. They had another drive that was nine place
- 12:32Speaker 1: seventy one yards, so they know eight seventy two. So
- 12:36Speaker 1: they just possessed the ball long, grind it out. And
- 12:39Speaker 1: I heard you're talking be care about this morning. Hey,
- 12:41Speaker 1: if they're gonna play that cover two, shout and say, hey,
- 12:43Speaker 1: we're not gonna get be deep, We're gonna be able
- 12:45Speaker 1: to running the ball. And they had no answer for
- 12:47Speaker 1: it last night. Last but not least, the Seahawks tied
- 12:49Speaker 1: for the best record in the NFL. Let's go tending
- 12:52Speaker 1: two and move into second place in the NFC? Do
- 12:56Speaker 1: you think they can get the number one seed? And again,
- 13:01Speaker 1: because it's me and you and we're not in the
- 13:02Speaker 1: locker room week, we can talk about these kind of things.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I really do. We'll see what happens with the Niners
- 13:07Speaker 1: in Saints next week. Obviously, the Rams on Sunday night
- 13:10Speaker 1: football for the Seahawks is gonna be a big game.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But everything's right there in front of them. Man, every
- 13:14Speaker 1: game they have on their schedule is winnable. They're six
- 13:17Speaker 1: and o on the road. They got two road games
- 13:18Speaker 1: in a road the next two weeks, so I think
- 13:20Speaker 1: everything's there, and then you got two division games to
- 13:22Speaker 1: end it, so they're in great shape. Definitely, definitely to
- 13:26Speaker 1: at least get a first round by, which would be
- 13:27Speaker 1: huge for them. Niners Saints. That's a tricky game. If
- 13:30Speaker 1: the Niners win, then that bumps the Hawks into the
- 13:33Speaker 1: number one seed. If the Niners lose, then it just
- 13:38Speaker 1: takes care of the division. Which do you prefer? Man
- 13:42Speaker 1: The greedy side of me wants the number one seed
- 13:44Speaker 1: because the Seahawks have done pretty well. They've gone to
- 13:47Speaker 1: Super Bowl all the three times they've done it, they
- 13:49Speaker 1: had the one seed a home field advantage, So I
- 13:51Speaker 1: like that, But I also like to just be like, no,
- 13:53Speaker 1: we're gonna have the division. We know we're gonna have
- 13:55Speaker 1: a first round by, and guess what this team is
- 13:57Speaker 1: showing what they can do on the road. So in
- 13:59Speaker 1: that situation and they're just having to win one game,
- 14:01Speaker 1: So honestly, it's a great situation and being for the
- 14:04Speaker 1: for January in the postseason, it's a win win, all right.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Moving on to the top performers. First, let's talk about
- 14:08Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. Some say he didn't play great. I thought
- 14:11Speaker 1: he played good. Enough to get the wi. He was
- 14:13Speaker 1: twenty one to thirty one for two hundred and forty yards,
- 14:16Speaker 1: two touchdowns and a pick that, like Paulmyer just say,
- 14:19Speaker 1: I don't even want to count that as a pick.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It should be like a deflection turnover or something. Man.
- 14:24Speaker 1: That's brutal, and he's the exact right thing the ball
- 14:26Speaker 1: You're taught. The ball gets batted up in the air
- 14:28Speaker 1: to bat it down, and as it's going back, he
- 14:30Speaker 1: kind of gets hit on his way up and tips
- 14:32Speaker 1: it and just could not have been a better play
- 14:34Speaker 1: for them, perfect right place, right time, Harris runs it
- 14:37Speaker 1: back for a touchdown. But yeah, no, it's really hard
- 14:40Speaker 1: for Russell get penalized for that. Yeah, that's unfortunate. Russell
- 14:43Speaker 1: Wilson was pressured it season a low four times on Monday.
- 14:46Speaker 1: That's twelve percent pressure rate. Taking advantage of the Vikings
- 14:50Speaker 1: four man pressure that talks to that offensive line. That
- 14:54Speaker 1: means they're picking up blitzers, that means they're communicating with
- 14:56Speaker 1: the stunts, they're they're picking up the combo blocks. I
- 14:59Speaker 1: like what I'm seeing out of this offensive line. And
- 15:01Speaker 1: then you put in a Jamarco Jones is getting in
- 15:03Speaker 1: the mix, the more of the mirror on that offensive line. No,
- 15:06Speaker 1: you love it, you love to see it, you love
- 15:07Speaker 1: to see the depth and Etan posted hopefully's gonna come
- 15:09Speaker 1: back in a couple weeks. Add even more death. But
- 15:11Speaker 1: the Vikings had such a talented front seven with Kendricks
- 15:14Speaker 1: making plays, so they got a lot of Joseph, they
- 15:16Speaker 1: got a lot of big, stout guys up front. And
- 15:18Speaker 1: for the Seahawks to keep Russell protected the way they did,
- 15:21Speaker 1: it's a huge, huge confidence booster for sure. With the
- 15:24Speaker 1: win on Monday Night, Russell and proves to nine and
- 15:26Speaker 1: two on Monday Night Football, Wilson now has the highest
- 15:29Speaker 1: win percentage of any quarterback on Monday Night Football, passing
- 15:33Speaker 1: the great Randall Cunningham. Again another week, another stat that
- 15:37Speaker 1: Russell's doing something that no one else has ever done.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Will this ever stop? I don't see it stopping. I mean,
- 15:43Speaker 1: just bank it in. We'll have at least one or
- 15:45Speaker 1: two stats that no one else has done in the
- 15:47Speaker 1: league every single week because that's Russell Wilson. You know,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I personally I still think he has a good shot
- 15:53Speaker 1: at the MVP, but most people is probably gonna give
- 15:55Speaker 1: that to Lamar at the moment, but we'll wait. Well,
- 15:58Speaker 1: if Russell doesn't get it, that's fine. I think he's
- 16:00Speaker 1: okay with just winning ball game. Yes he is. Here's
- 16:02Speaker 1: the last one for you. Since inch of the league
- 16:04Speaker 1: in twenty twelve, Russell Wilson has thrown sixty three past
- 16:07Speaker 1: touchdowns of at least twenty yards in the air. That's
- 16:10Speaker 1: the most in the NFL over that span. The next
- 16:12Speaker 1: closest player it's the great Drew Brees at fifty seven.
- 16:16Speaker 1: You talk about this guy being a game manager, not
- 16:19Speaker 1: really a quarterback. He's tossing that rock downs field more
- 16:22Speaker 1: than anybody in this league, and he's being successful. The
- 16:25Speaker 1: best long ball in the game, maybe of all time.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I mean, it's up there, man. I mean the numbers
- 16:30Speaker 1: are life when you're when you think of Drew Brees
- 16:32Speaker 1: and all the insane stats he's put up the last
- 16:35Speaker 1: seven eight years. If a Russell be ahead of him,
- 16:37Speaker 1: that sad just speaks to how good Russell's man. Next
- 16:39Speaker 1: top of former, we gotta go to thirty two. What
- 16:41Speaker 1: to do? Chris Carson twenty three carries one hundred and
- 16:44Speaker 1: two yards, one touchdowns, one touchdown, no fumbles. Took care
- 16:48Speaker 1: of the rocket it's the fifth game this season over
- 16:51Speaker 1: a hundred yards. Mister consistency. We talked about it man
- 16:55Speaker 1: last week. We said after that Eagles game, expect Chris
- 16:58Speaker 1: Carson to be hungry. He's gonna ball out, and he
- 17:00Speaker 1: did not disappoint. Now you got to talk about his
- 17:03Speaker 1: buddy in the backfield where Shot Penny had fifteen carres
- 17:05Speaker 1: for seventy four yards and a touchdown. Also had four
- 17:08Speaker 1: catches thirty three yards and a touchdown. He's emerging. You know.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It's it's not happening at the pace that people wanted
- 17:15Speaker 1: it to happen, but it's happening right before our eyes.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And he's evolving. He's cutting weight, he understands the playbut
- 17:21Speaker 1: he's not only outside the tackle guys, he's hitting the gap.
- 17:24Speaker 1: What's seen out of this guy? Everything's great. Like he
- 17:26Speaker 1: has like you said, he has that bursts. He just
- 17:28Speaker 1: does things differently than Chris Carson, which is great. And
- 17:31Speaker 1: also he's bigger than people think in terms of his strength,
- 17:34Speaker 1: so he doesn't go down easily. He takes care of
- 17:37Speaker 1: the rock. He's explosive, and what I love is his
- 17:40Speaker 1: mindset as a young player. He is just completely ignored
- 17:44Speaker 1: all the outside noise of your bus. This and that.
- 17:47Speaker 1: He's just stay consistent, doing the right things. Cutting weight
- 17:51Speaker 1: showed him to meetings on time, putting in the extra homework,
- 17:53Speaker 1: and it's finally starting to show in the field. So
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'm happening for that guy. So the Hawks rush for
- 17:56Speaker 1: two nineteen against the Vikings. You know, the last him
- 17:59Speaker 1: to do us for two hundred most did another team
- 18:02Speaker 1: of Seattle, a team from Seattle last year two hundred
- 18:04Speaker 1: and fourteen yards in Minnesota has given up more than
- 18:07Speaker 1: one forty seven on the ground this year. Safe to
- 18:10Speaker 1: say the ground game is looking pretty good right now? Yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I mean, hey, listen, we know the Ravens have an
- 18:15Speaker 1: unbelievable amount of rush yards because of how much they
- 18:18Speaker 1: run Lamar Jackson. But the Seahawks are always true to
- 18:21Speaker 1: their identity and it doesn't matter. I don't care what
- 18:23Speaker 1: them or say. If whoever you are in the NFL,
- 18:25Speaker 1: the Seahawks can run against him. Last top of former
- 18:28Speaker 1: Trey Flowers man So proud of this dude. Three tackles,
- 18:31Speaker 1: one pass offense, one interception. He just looks comfortable. It
- 18:35Speaker 1: looks like he's trusting his technique, he trusting what he sees.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I think that's one of the biggest challenges four corners
- 18:40Speaker 1: is to trust the route combination because you can always
- 18:42Speaker 1: get hit with a double move. I think that's what
- 18:44Speaker 1: kind of gets guys to be timid, especially coming from
- 18:46Speaker 1: that safety spot to where you can see everything. He
- 18:49Speaker 1: was a safety college. You can see the whole field,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you can freelance at that corner spot. You're on an island.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And this guy's looking nice and comfortable. Second week in
- 18:56Speaker 1: a row he has an interception. Yeah no, and he
- 18:58Speaker 1: you guys talked about it on the morning show. Treys
- 19:00Speaker 1: is taking the ball away and that's a different that's
- 19:02Speaker 1: a different thing, and that's the next step in the
- 19:04Speaker 1: progression of being a great dB. And Pete Carroll system
- 19:07Speaker 1: so love to see from Trey. He's got that confidence
- 19:10Speaker 1: and the whole back end is just they're balling out.
- 19:12Speaker 1: At one point people thought there or a liability on
- 19:15Speaker 1: this team. That is so far from the truth to
- 19:17Speaker 1: this point in the season. I got to give a
- 19:19Speaker 1: shout out to Quandre Digs that hit he who Goodness Graces,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I've been feeding for something like that all year. Hit
- 19:25Speaker 1: him in a gut. I'm in the press box I'm
- 19:27Speaker 1: grabbing people trying not to make noise, like as a
- 19:30Speaker 1: as a former player, those are the type of plays
- 19:33Speaker 1: that ignites a team, ignites a defense, and just gets
- 19:36Speaker 1: momentum on your side. Oh it just gets you juice.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I mean you could hear echo throughout the stadium. Everyone
- 19:41Speaker 1: just knows and I don't know how that man does it.
- 19:43Speaker 1: He's not a big guy in stature, but he brings
- 19:45Speaker 1: the lumber. And it's at that point now where if
- 19:48Speaker 1: you're a wide receiver, if you're tight end, if you're
- 19:50Speaker 1: running back, you're gonna want to know where thirty seven
- 19:53Speaker 1: is because he's coming down to hit you. That's that
- 19:54Speaker 1: pit bull baby wide receiver round up. D k has
- 19:58Speaker 1: six catches for seventy five yards, six catches out of
- 20:00Speaker 1: seven targets, which is good. He did have a fumble,
- 20:02Speaker 1: but man, sometimes you just can't control the fumble. Like
- 20:06Speaker 1: he put his shoulder pad on the ball as he's
- 20:08Speaker 1: turning a field. Nothing you can really do about that.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Sometimes guys get lucky. David Moore had two catches for
- 20:13Speaker 1: sixty five yards and a touchdown, a big touchdown for
- 20:17Speaker 1: sixty yards. And you cannot not mention the new additions
- 20:21Speaker 1: celebration at the end of that touch Oh my goodness,
- 20:23Speaker 1: it is killed. It I loved. I mean, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 1: for some of our other fans, he might you might
- 20:28Speaker 1: have missed that when it happened. Steve Rabel call it
- 20:31Speaker 1: kind of a hula day. But the Seahawks receivers have
- 20:34Speaker 1: v best celebrations in the NFL, and it is not close.
- 20:38Speaker 1: And I just love that the choreography was on point.
- 20:40Speaker 1: When you match it up with a new edition, I mean,
- 20:43Speaker 1: our guys are out there ball yeah, and they're doing
- 20:44Speaker 1: that with no music. They're just this on air. Jacob
- 20:47Speaker 1: Pollist has six catches for forty four yards. This guy
- 20:50Speaker 1: has stepped in. Vanette gets traded, Dixon goes down, Desci
- 20:54Speaker 1: goes down. Luke Wilson's injured. It's him and George Fan
- 20:58Speaker 1: so really pretty much it's him when it comes of
- 21:00Speaker 1: that past game. I love what Jacob Hollister is doing
- 21:02Speaker 1: where set Penny had four cats for thirty three yards
- 21:05Speaker 1: and a touchdown on the screen. Josh goreon miss a clutch.
- 21:08Speaker 1: All he does catch slants. He had one for ten
- 21:10Speaker 1: on the third down. Talked to Pete Carroll earlier. He
- 21:13Speaker 1: says he will get more involved as the season goes along.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Chris Carson had one cast for seven yards, JB one
- 21:19Speaker 1: for six. Tyler Lockett didn't have any catch but was
- 21:21Speaker 1: targeted three times. Safe to say, I don't think he's
- 21:24Speaker 1: completely hell. He had an injury, then he was sick.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Him being out there is just a blessing because they
- 21:30Speaker 1: have to account for this guy absolutely, And I think
- 21:32Speaker 1: he's gonna come back once he finally gets the fluids
- 21:34Speaker 1: back in him and he's ready to rock, and he's
- 21:36Speaker 1: got another week of just playing football and hopefully that
- 21:38Speaker 1: sickness has passed him, I'd expect to see some big
- 21:41Speaker 1: things that will lock it down the stretch. All right.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Moving on to the coaches quarter. Every week we talk
- 21:46Speaker 1: about one play, and today we have to talk about
- 21:49Speaker 1: the fake punt. It was fourth and three on the
- 21:51Speaker 1: Seattle thirty two in the fourth quarter and Homer got
- 21:55Speaker 1: it going. So Michael Dixon on to punt. Hue is
- 21:58Speaker 1: deep four Minnesota. Fake punt. It's coming nearside running a football.
- 22:03Speaker 1: He's down inside Minnesota territory. It was Travis Homer a
- 22:09Speaker 1: fake punt. Michael Dickson ran like he was gonna chase
- 22:14Speaker 1: the footpad snap. It was a direct snap to the
- 22:17Speaker 1: upfact Travis Homer, who goes twenty nine yards before he's
- 22:22Speaker 1: knocked out of hounds on the near sidelines. You get
- 22:25Speaker 1: one chance of season to run one of those and one.
- 22:28Speaker 1: A great choice by the Seahawks, perfect blocking and Homer. Wow.
- 22:33Speaker 1: He accelerates up the field all the way in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: Minnesota territory at the thirty nine. What a time to
- 22:39Speaker 1: call this play fourty three. You're on your own thirty two.
- 22:43Speaker 1: This is not a safe fake punt. I don't think
- 22:45Speaker 1: any fake punts are safe. But you're in your own territory.
- 22:48Speaker 1: A direct snack to home, snap to Homer, and it
- 22:51Speaker 1: just turns into a stress play. You got lead blockers
- 22:53Speaker 1: out there, you got Lano Hill leading the way, you
- 22:55Speaker 1: got Hollister r out there and leading the way. And
- 22:57Speaker 1: then he gets up, gets down that sideline and he
- 22:59Speaker 1: hain't happen out he sees a guy squared up. You know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I'm a receiver. I'm stepping out save that hit. Homer said, Nah,
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'm touching this rock. I'm gonna lord that shoulder to
- 23:07Speaker 1: deliver some pain. You'd love to see too, because he
- 23:09Speaker 1: just that burst that's why they drafted him. When it's
- 23:12Speaker 1: good to see him now on kickoff returns and to
- 23:15Speaker 1: see him get that play, that confidence going to show
- 23:17Speaker 1: that burst that what he has. And Wyman said it
- 23:19Speaker 1: on the broadcast, Pete had some stones to call. Oh
- 23:22Speaker 1: my goodness, but hey, that's the work they put in
- 23:25Speaker 1: Ryan Schneider's special teams coach. They worked that all week.
- 23:28Speaker 1: They knew they got to look that they wanted to
- 23:30Speaker 1: see and they executed perfectly. And this is nice to
- 23:32Speaker 1: see young guys contribute him get a Homer who contributed him.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Google's always contributing on special teams. Cody Barton got some
- 23:39Speaker 1: um during during the game. So as the season progresses,
- 23:43Speaker 1: you start to see these numbers that you're not familiar with.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Makes some places for them to trust the young man.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It's awesome to see him. Happy for Travis Homer, I'm
- 23:50Speaker 1: gonna call the homie Homer. Let's go baby, all right.
- 23:53Speaker 1: The best thing that we took from this game can't look,
- 23:56Speaker 1: can't look pass the run game. These guys are balling out.
- 23:58Speaker 1: The combo of Carson and Penny are for real. And
- 24:01Speaker 1: then you add that offensive line play. You Piety's healthy
- 24:04Speaker 1: Dwayne Brown's healthy, Jamarco Jones getting in the mix. Hunt
- 24:07Speaker 1: has stepped in and has played exceptionally well. Um. I
- 24:10Speaker 1: like what they're doing on the ground. With the win
- 24:12Speaker 1: over the Vikings, the Seahawks now control their own destiny
- 24:15Speaker 1: to the number two seed in first round. By these
- 24:18Speaker 1: guys are tending two on to the next going down
- 24:22Speaker 1: to Cali Coliseum. Pete Carroll's familiar with that stadium. He
- 24:25Speaker 1: knows the ins and out. So I wonder what restaurant
- 24:27Speaker 1: he's gonna eat at. I wonder what path he takes
- 24:28Speaker 1: to the field. All familiar. It's been good. It's Michael
- 24:33Speaker 1: Bumpus Hawk taur recap along with my guy Nasaitoba. The
- 24:36Speaker 1: Seahawks beat the Vikings thirty seven to thirty on Monday
- 24:39Speaker 1: Night football number two in the NFC and they control
- 24:42Speaker 1: the division. We'll see you guys next time.
