0:50
Speaker 2: on Let's Talk.
0:51
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk.
0:54
Speaker 3: And I have my two co hosts in the building,
0:58
Speaker 3: Lisa Odie and Hollis Lewis. And I don't know if
1:04
Speaker 3: I'm going to say this is fortunate or unfortunate, but
1:07
Speaker 3: we do have another person that's miped up and ready
1:10
Speaker 3: to go. This is like, uh, this is like a
1:15
Speaker 3: guy that I have known for gosh for a long
1:20
Speaker 3: long time. And I'll even I hate to do this,
1:24
Speaker 3: but I'm gonna have to give him some credit. This
1:29
Speaker 3: is the guy who would get up at six in
1:30
Speaker 3: the morning, five in the morning and run with me
1:36
Speaker 3: all off season of football and with with for no
1:40
Speaker 3: reason other than to help me out. And he has
1:45
Speaker 3: become part of our family. He does we do Christmas,
1:48
Speaker 3: we do Thanksgiving, he does all of that. He's at
1:50
Speaker 3: our house with my mom's house, and there's that expectation
1:54
Speaker 3: of him being there. Now that doesn't necessarily mean I
1:58
Speaker 3: really like him that much. My goodness that that's how
2:02
Speaker 3: all that has happened. So I like to introduce everybody,
2:06
Speaker 3: Jay Jordan's and and everybody. There's a whole lot of
2:10
Speaker 3: people who know him for a whole lot of reasons. Good,
2:14
Speaker 3: good and but you have you're doing some things sponsored
2:21
Speaker 3: by the water company and doing some good things. Tell
2:26
Speaker 3: us a little bit, tell tell the listeners about some
2:28
Speaker 3: of the things that you're doing.
2:29
Speaker 4: Okay, thank you Carl and Lisa and Hollis. Appreciate you
2:33
Speaker 4: all letting me on for a little bit.
2:35
Speaker 3: Uh.
2:35
Speaker 4: I have a ride that our sponsor. It'll be three
2:40
Speaker 4: years now, this be my third year going in and
2:43
Speaker 4: the first thing I did. When I first wanted to
2:46
Speaker 4: do this was to give back to the community, and
2:48
Speaker 4: I wanted to find out a good way of how
2:51
Speaker 4: to do that and where what would be the best
2:55
Speaker 4: way that I could reach out to the community and
2:58
Speaker 4: who would who would need it the most. So I
3:01
Speaker 4: went and I approached a guy named Bradley Harris, which
3:05
Speaker 4: was over external affairs and water company, and told him
3:08
Speaker 4: my idea of what I wanted to do. He come
3:11
Speaker 4: up and got with me, did a tremendous job finding
3:14
Speaker 4: out agencies and all that, threw them out there at
3:17
Speaker 4: me and say which one do you prefer.
3:20
Speaker 3: One that was kind of close and dear to me
3:22
Speaker 3: was y w c A.
3:24
Speaker 4: They do a lot of things for the kids. They
3:29
Speaker 4: got a new center down there on Elizabeth Street where
3:32
Speaker 4: kids could come in and they could do homework. They
3:35
Speaker 4: have computers there for kids that don't have computers at
3:39
Speaker 4: home and all that, and they also.
3:41
Speaker 3: Get women.
3:45
Speaker 4: Like they come in and they could get set up
3:47
Speaker 4: for interviewing and getting started into the work field.
3:50
Speaker 3: So they do that part of it.
3:52
Speaker 4: And I know when I was growing up, we use
3:54
Speaker 4: the agency. So my deal, my dream was, let me
3:57
Speaker 4: when I get an opportunity in a chain. Let me
4:01
Speaker 4: go back and give back to the community. So I
4:05
Speaker 4: chose why WCA. They came over the water company and
4:08
Speaker 4: listened to my presentation. They jumped on it. So they
4:12
Speaker 4: come in. They sponsored. We have breathfis and stuff like
4:15
Speaker 4: that in shirts. So what I do is a preregistration
4:19
Speaker 4: type deal with is like twenty five dollars for the rider,
4:22
Speaker 4: ten dollars if you got a if you have an
4:25
Speaker 4: extra rider with you, but it's twenty.
4:27
Speaker 3: Five dollars per rider. We'll ride to like State Park.
4:30
Speaker 4: These are motorcycles, motorcycles, sling shots. Anything with you go
4:37
Speaker 4: with a scooter, I'll let you, but mostly it's motorcycles.
4:43
Speaker 4: And like I said, I did have sling shots. We
4:46
Speaker 4: was in a parade down there. I do it on
4:50
Speaker 4: June teenth. I picked that day because I felt that
4:53
Speaker 4: it wasn't nobody really getting a lot of tension on
4:56
Speaker 4: June teenth, so I wanted to go under that June
4:59
Speaker 4: teens and I called it. Me and Bradley Harres got
5:02
Speaker 4: together and we came up with a name for Freedom Ride,
5:06
Speaker 4: which is the June Team. So the first year we
5:08
Speaker 4: went out and it turned out really well. I had
5:12
Speaker 4: people that came and supported me from the Water Company
5:16
Speaker 4: and other groups, Buffalo Soldiers.
5:19
Speaker 3: They are out.
5:20
Speaker 4: They do my safety part of it. They adamant riders,
5:23
Speaker 4: they all over the place. So that makes me feel
5:26
Speaker 4: a lot comfortable with my right. The other people that
5:28
Speaker 4: don't ride as much, so that I got them there
5:31
Speaker 4: and they they do the safety part of the ride,
5:33
Speaker 4: so they're there for safety part, watched the traffic and
5:36
Speaker 4: all that. What I do is we usually like we
5:41
Speaker 4: went to Hawk's Nest and we come back and I
5:44
Speaker 4: do pictures and I take pictures of the riders and
5:48
Speaker 4: some of where we go to. This year, we're going
5:50
Speaker 4: to Somersville and we're going to do what they call
5:54
Speaker 4: the swings. I think this is something like a Landmark
5:57
Speaker 4: type deal now in West Virginia all over where you
6:00
Speaker 4: go out and you have a big nice view of
6:04
Speaker 4: the background. And we're gonna go up to Summersville and
6:06
Speaker 4: take a picture of that swing set and then we're
6:09
Speaker 4: gonna ride down. We do breakfics in the morning. We'll
6:12
Speaker 4: start at nine o'clock and that will be the registration
6:16
Speaker 4: of preregistration nine and nine thirty and then nine thirty
6:20
Speaker 4: to ten thirty. We got people that supported that sponsored
6:24
Speaker 4: me for Breapics, Chick fil A and all those people.
6:27
Speaker 3: So we have Chick fil A, they're sponsoring Breapics.
6:30
Speaker 4: We'll do that for nine thirty, ten thirty, then kickstands
6:33
Speaker 4: for up like ten forty five. This year I added
6:36
Speaker 4: in cookout down at Shawnee for the riders, so after
6:41
Speaker 4: the ride they could go down to Shawnee be under
6:43
Speaker 4: shelter too, probably see us out there, have people down there,
6:48
Speaker 4: and we'll do that part. And I'll just have Hamburger
6:52
Speaker 4: hot off for in some like cokes and pops and
6:54
Speaker 4: stuff like that for the riders, just sit around, talk
6:58
Speaker 4: a little bit, you know, how.
6:59
Speaker 3: To ride with and all that good stuff. Let me
7:01
Speaker 3: ask this question, if someone was interested in being a sponsor,
7:08
Speaker 3: who do they contact? What's the information in order for
7:11
Speaker 3: them to be able to be a part of it.
7:14
Speaker 3: If anybody who's a listener they want to get they
7:17
Speaker 3: want to be part of it, who do they contact?
7:19
Speaker 3: I'm assuming that you, But what's the contact information and
7:22
Speaker 3: where can they find it?
7:23
Speaker 4: Okay, they could go under uh, they could get in
7:26
Speaker 4: touch with myself and that number I could leave a
7:30
Speaker 4: card here to be three or four, five, five, two
7:32
Speaker 4: eight one seven one, we're gonna work number. They could
7:34
Speaker 4: reach out to me or I do have a flyer
7:38
Speaker 4: here and they could go under that and they could
7:41
Speaker 4: do all the donations and all that signing up and
7:43
Speaker 4: all that if they like to. But any type of
7:46
Speaker 4: information they would like to have on this ride, they
7:49
Speaker 4: could reach out to me or share a wade.
7:53
Speaker 3: I would have to share a wade at amwater dot com.
7:57
Speaker 4: They can email her at that and that way you
7:59
Speaker 4: could get information for how they do donation.
8:02
Speaker 3: So they can get to the water company. They can
8:04
Speaker 3: contact the water company and get information and or direct
8:09
Speaker 3: information or access to you or yes, okay, want information,
8:14
Speaker 3: so let me ask you this. So as far as
8:16
Speaker 3: the like, if you want to make a donation or
8:18
Speaker 3: you want to ride to ride, it costs you. I
8:21
Speaker 3: think you said twenty five dollars? Is at it correct?
8:23
Speaker 3: And now what specifically does those funds go to.
8:27
Speaker 4: Those funds will actually go right to YWCA and nothing
8:29
Speaker 4: comes to me and everything goes to YWC help funding
8:33
Speaker 4: those events I've talked about about the kids on the
8:37
Speaker 4: computers and stuff like that.
8:38
Speaker 3: They have a library and all.
8:40
Speaker 4: That funding to go in there to help them keep
8:43
Speaker 4: up their center down there.
8:44
Speaker 3: Gotcha.
8:45
Speaker 5: So, Jay, how many riders are you expecting this year?
8:48
Speaker 4: We have somewhere like fifteen to twenty riders sometimes all
8:54
Speaker 4: my goal is the fifty. I don't know if I yeah, yeah,
8:57
Speaker 4: but I like to do for the starts, right, I
9:00
Speaker 4: like to get donations and funding for them as much
9:04
Speaker 4: as almost like five thousand.
9:06
Speaker 3: I haven't reached that, but I'm working on it.
9:09
Speaker 4: You know, and with it, you know, God's help and
9:11
Speaker 4: everyone that wants to participate and maybe get there time.
9:17
Speaker 3: And if there is there a limit, is there a
9:18
Speaker 3: limit on the number of riders? So if you have
9:20
Speaker 3: like a club who wants to come in, who already
9:23
Speaker 3: has like a motorcycle club, they just want to come
9:25
Speaker 3: in and register and ride along. So there's no limit
9:28
Speaker 3: or anything limit at all. Everything's wide open because I see
9:33
Speaker 3: those big like this is becoming really popular at least
9:36
Speaker 3: maybe I'm just being cognizant of it. Like I'll see
9:40
Speaker 3: these big like Memorial Day riders. Yeah, you'll have these.
9:42
Speaker 3: It'll be like a half a mile long of riders
9:45
Speaker 3: riding through for different causes, different like that. So I
9:48
Speaker 3: think you can probably get past fifty. We just got
9:50
Speaker 3: to get the word out.
9:51
Speaker 4: That's right, that's right, and everything helps, and I appreciate
9:54
Speaker 4: you all forgiving me the time to actually come on
9:57
Speaker 4: here and get get the word out. I think that's
10:00
Speaker 4: what some of the things happens here. We don't get
10:02
Speaker 4: the word out the peach. Sure we have a lot
10:04
Speaker 4: of good events and you know, for good causes, but
10:08
Speaker 4: some people don't hear.
10:09
Speaker 3: Yeah.
10:09
Speaker 5: Sure, and we know what the weather's been like lately. Jay,
10:12
Speaker 5: So do you have like a rain date and case
10:15
Speaker 5: the weather's are not great?
10:17
Speaker 4: I do have a rain date. So far, we've been
10:20
Speaker 4: blessed for good weather every year. I had it little
10:23
Speaker 4: sun side shining. We had a good time for pictures
10:26
Speaker 4: and all that. The first year we had that parade,
10:30
Speaker 4: Junting parade, which they do it on the weekday. I
10:33
Speaker 4: wish they would put it back on a Saturday. The
10:35
Speaker 4: first year I think we did on Saturday, maybe a Monday.
10:38
Speaker 4: But what happened was, uh, the kids. You have the
10:41
Speaker 4: chance for the kids to get out there and they
10:43
Speaker 4: love to see them sling shots and oh yeah, I
10:46
Speaker 4: got one guy got.
10:47
Speaker 3: Like forty speakers on the sling shot.
10:51
Speaker 4: Him and he's an almost every ride or something like that.
10:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, and then I got another one. So yeah, that ride.
11:00
Speaker 4: So I take clean shots anything, you know, sure, just
11:03
Speaker 4: to have a good time.
11:04
Speaker 3: What about more paths? Can we can we do more?
11:11
Speaker 3: The little electric bikes election? Hey Jay, what I'm what
11:18
Speaker 3: I want you to do is contact Donna and Legends building.
11:25
Speaker 3: Legends will make a donation to you as well. All right,
11:29
Speaker 3: So just contact her and she'll give you a talk.
11:33
Speaker 3: Maybe two dollars or so something. Don't spend you put
11:39
Speaker 3: that right? You got anything anything else to say? Anything else?
11:51
Speaker 3: You know, I appreciate the time you all. Thanks a lot,
11:54
Speaker 3: you have a great Give the give the contact information
11:56
Speaker 3: one more time. Okay, it's the contact information.
11:59
Speaker 4: You could reach out to me at L E A
12:01
Speaker 4: R L dot Jordan at am dot amwater dot com
12:07
Speaker 4: at also Sharah dot Wade at amwater dot com and
12:12
Speaker 4: my phone numbers three oh four, five, five, two eight,
12:15
Speaker 4: one seven one.
12:16
Speaker 5: And they can find you on social media as well,
12:18
Speaker 5: right if they look you up, Yes j Jordan, Yes
12:20
Speaker 5: the Jjordan on face send a message and they can
12:23
Speaker 5: probably find you that way.
12:24
Speaker 4: Also on my Facebook, I have the flyer out where
12:27
Speaker 4: they can get the q R card.
12:28
Speaker 3: Let me show I'm share the fly.
12:30
Speaker 4: Now it's awesome, and they could go right into that
12:33
Speaker 4: QR code and it take you right there to the
12:35
Speaker 4: event and you can.
12:36
Speaker 3: Sign up and do whatever you need to do. Perfect Yep,
12:39
Speaker 3: all right, And I think, if I'm not mistaken, Hollins
12:43
Speaker 3: Lewis is gonna take us somewhere with the n c
12:48
Speaker 3: a A. I do believe, all right. So there was
12:50
Speaker 3: a recent h Well settlement. There's a recent judicial order.
12:54
Speaker 3: A settlement of a case is House v. N C
12:57
Speaker 3: double A, and that's House that actually stands for a person,
12:59
Speaker 3: not like House of Delegates or House are representative. And
13:02
Speaker 3: basically what it is, it's two parts. So there was
13:06
Speaker 3: a two point something billion settlement which is going to
13:09
Speaker 3: go to compensating athletes. Will talk about that last, but basically,
13:13
Speaker 3: the big part of it is that it's going to
13:16
Speaker 3: allow schools to pay athletes. And that's all athletes, not
13:22
Speaker 3: just football and basketball players. So basically what it is
13:25
Speaker 3: is that each school would have about a twenty million
13:28
Speaker 3: dollar salary cap budget which they could use to allocate
13:32
Speaker 3: to pay athletes in their athletics department. In addition, so
13:35
Speaker 3: the third thing it does, it sets up an NCAA Commission.
13:41
Speaker 3: It's going to be head by former MLB executive and
13:44
Speaker 3: basically they would be responsible for, you know, navigating any infractions,
13:49
Speaker 3: trying to set rules in different things of that nature.
13:52
Speaker 3: So you know, I think, you know, this is going
13:56
Speaker 3: to be a good thing. I think number one, it
13:59
Speaker 3: is the revenue sharing model that we've discussed previously that
14:03
Speaker 3: I'm an advocate for, and I think, you know, not immediately,
14:08
Speaker 3: but what it will do in my mind going down
14:11
Speaker 3: the road, it's going to sort of curve the wild
14:15
Speaker 3: wild West that Nio was right because the bulk of
14:18
Speaker 3: the money, I ain't gonna say the bull of the money,
14:20
Speaker 3: but the money is going to be coming directly from
14:23
Speaker 3: the schools, So the schools would be able to set
14:26
Speaker 3: the standards, set the salary caps, say hey you're gonna
14:28
Speaker 3: get paid this, make you sign a contract possibly that
14:31
Speaker 3: you got to be here for X amount of years,
14:33
Speaker 3: and different things of that nature. Now, what's going to
14:37
Speaker 3: be sort of difficult to navigate is that within that
14:42
Speaker 3: commission's power, not only are they going to have enforcement power.
14:46
Speaker 3: So if you got you know, some some issues, something
14:48
Speaker 3: you're violating some rules, they would be the enforcing mechanisms,
14:51
Speaker 3: but it's going to be a little thing which I
14:54
Speaker 3: believe is going to really have to be worked out
14:56
Speaker 3: in that now they'll be able to event value wait
15:01
Speaker 3: those outside NIL deals because the athletes, while they're getting
15:05
Speaker 3: paid directly from the school, they can still get like
15:07
Speaker 3: the sponsorships and different things of that nature. So what
15:11
Speaker 3: this commission will be tasked to do, in part will
15:16
Speaker 3: be to say, hey, it is what you're doing, Okay?
15:21
Speaker 3: Is this sponsorship good? Is are you? Are you getting
15:25
Speaker 3: paid too much? Getting paid too little? Different things over
15:27
Speaker 3: that day. So I think that's where it's gonna be
15:30
Speaker 3: a little fickled at. So that's kind of it in
15:32
Speaker 3: a nutshell without going too much legal ease. Okay, my first,
15:36
Speaker 3: my first like, I like it, okay, but the NIL
15:42
Speaker 3: piece is my is my issue because let's say the
15:48
Speaker 3: three of us we're on the same team, we're all
15:51
Speaker 3: getting twenty dollars, okay, because we're top players and we're
15:55
Speaker 3: getting twenty dollars. My question. Then then I turn out
16:01
Speaker 3: and I get an IL deal from not necessarily quote
16:05
Speaker 3: a sponsor, but let's just say, you know, somebody who's
16:09
Speaker 3: got a ton of money who is gonna get me,
16:12
Speaker 3: you know, a thousand dollars for every game. You know,
16:18
Speaker 3: I still see the separation and I see all that
16:22
Speaker 3: for the for the NIL player, this is just extra
16:26
Speaker 3: money being paid through the system. Well, I think, and
16:30
Speaker 3: I think that's definitely a concern. But I'm I'm and
16:34
Speaker 3: this is just me, Like, this is just my conjecture.
16:36
Speaker 3: This is just me, you know, forecasting. What I think
16:39
Speaker 3: is gonna happen is that Number one, they're gonna this
16:42
Speaker 3: commission is gonna set guidelines and rules this state that hey, okay,
16:46
Speaker 3: you're not gonna be able to go to this NIL
16:49
Speaker 3: collective and just get a check. You're actually gonna have
16:52
Speaker 3: to do something in regards of like some sort of sponsorship.
16:57
Speaker 3: There's gonna have to be some some sort of fair exchange.
17:00
Speaker 3: So you're like, if you're going to go to you know,
17:02
Speaker 3: Gatorade and they're gonna you know, you're gonna be a commercials,
17:06
Speaker 3: then okay, you're sponsoring. And if you're gonna deal with
17:09
Speaker 3: this NIL, this person giving you this money, there is
17:12
Speaker 3: something that you're gonna have to do, whether that's posting
17:15
Speaker 3: them on your social media, You're not just I don't
17:18
Speaker 3: think And again, let me just say this before I
17:20
Speaker 3: go on the current NIL deals in place. This this
17:23
Speaker 3: ruling is not retroactive, so it won't affect any ones'
17:27
Speaker 3: current you know, n I l's has already been signed
17:29
Speaker 3: and happened. But what I think moving forward is that
17:32
Speaker 3: number one, the money is going to go from the school,
17:35
Speaker 3: and I think, excuse me, come from the school. The
17:37
Speaker 3: schools may be able to pull more from that from
17:40
Speaker 3: the n I L collective under some if they need
17:44
Speaker 3: it or whatever. And then far as sponsorships is concerned,
17:47
Speaker 3: you're actually gonna have to be in you know, a sponsorship.
17:50
Speaker 3: You're gonna actually be a marketing tool for whoever's giving
17:53
Speaker 3: you that extra money. That's just my conjecture.
17:55
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think too, and you're probably right, hollispect.
18:00
Speaker 5: I think this is a way to control like the
18:02
Speaker 5: Cooper flags of the athletic college athletic world, because you know,
18:07
Speaker 5: this guy's making millions of dollars at Duke on these
18:10
Speaker 5: you know, supersized NIL deals outside of what he's doing
18:13
Speaker 5: at Duke with the school. So I think that this,
18:16
Speaker 5: I think this clearing house is what they're calling it
18:19
Speaker 5: something like that. Basically what they're going to do from
18:23
Speaker 5: what I've read is review these agreements and make sure
18:26
Speaker 5: they're fair market value, that they're not being overpaid for
18:30
Speaker 5: what they're doing. I think the question for me is,
18:33
Speaker 5: and I think this will come out later on after
18:35
Speaker 5: this is implemented, you know how much power is this
18:38
Speaker 5: clearing house going to have? And the second question is
18:42
Speaker 5: it legal?
18:43
Speaker 3: And that's my part because I don't because you can't
18:46
Speaker 3: necessarily determine fair market value because your your market value
18:50
Speaker 3: is what somebody's willing to pay, right, So if somebody's
18:53
Speaker 3: willing to give you a thousand and give you a hundred,
18:56
Speaker 3: that's my fair market value. Right. I think what they're
18:59
Speaker 3: from what I understand, what they're gonna determine is the range.
19:03
Speaker 3: So they're not necessarily determining what you're worth on the
19:05
Speaker 3: fair market value. They're they're gonna be tasked to tell
19:08
Speaker 3: me determined like how much, like like what's the range
19:12
Speaker 3: that we can allow you to get paid, Which to me,
19:17
Speaker 3: that's where you're gonna see massive lawsuits because if you
19:20
Speaker 3: tell me what's going to happen. But but I think
19:23
Speaker 3: if they just leave it like that, then yes, but
19:26
Speaker 3: what I think is going to happen, and if they're smart.
19:28
Speaker 3: What they're gonna say is that, hey, you could get
19:31
Speaker 3: paid that one point five million or that two million,
19:34
Speaker 3: but what are you doing for that? You actually have
19:36
Speaker 3: to we can't allow you just to accept money, and
19:40
Speaker 3: then you're just not doing anything like what's been happening
19:42
Speaker 3: in the past other than just paying, because you're already
19:44
Speaker 3: getting paid from the school. So I think they're gonna
19:46
Speaker 3: determine the parameters in which what is allowable far as
19:51
Speaker 3: marketing is kept, I think.
19:54
Speaker 5: I think it is. But it's also I think there's
19:56
Speaker 5: gonna be a lot of legal concern in the future
20:00
Speaker 5: with with athletes challenging it.
20:02
Speaker 3: For sure. Well see, and here's the here's the thing
20:05
Speaker 3: that and and I and please correct me if I'm
20:07
Speaker 3: wrong when I say this, because this is what's running
20:10
Speaker 3: around in my head. So the NIL money, let's assume
20:17
Speaker 3: I'm assuming that. Okay, So I'm going to get one
20:23
Speaker 3: thousand dollars for whatever amount of time, But that's not
20:28
Speaker 3: coming from NIL. That's coming from the school, from the
20:31
Speaker 3: school out of the million. And so I kind of
20:37
Speaker 3: want to keep my NIL deal and they want to
20:41
Speaker 3: give me twenty million.
20:44
Speaker 5: And that's when the clearing house comes into play.
20:46
Speaker 3: Right, and that's when they would come in yeah, yeh yeah,
20:49
Speaker 3: and then and and because then again you could get
20:52
Speaker 3: fifteen fifteen million, and then who's the who's judging of
20:57
Speaker 3: what's the fair market value? Like who's Well, they're not
21:00
Speaker 3: judging fair market value. They they play a little you know,
21:03
Speaker 3: language jiu jitsu. They're not saying that fair market value.
21:07
Speaker 3: They're saying range of range of payment. They're doing like
21:09
Speaker 3: a like a range. So in essence, they're sort of
21:12
Speaker 3: trying to judge fair market value without saying that, because
21:15
Speaker 3: you cannot judge fair market value. Well, and and here's
21:19
Speaker 3: here's what I think is the problem with what they're
21:21
Speaker 3: what they're attempting to do. Because let's okay, let's go
21:24
Speaker 3: to the NFL. Okay, so let's say you playing on
21:27
Speaker 3: the right corner. I'm playing left corner. I go in,
21:30
Speaker 3: I get I change, I go in. We're pretty close
21:33
Speaker 3: to the same ability and all that kind of stuff, right,
21:36
Speaker 3: same kind of honors and all that. I go in,
21:39
Speaker 3: I sign a contract for for one hundred dollars. You
21:42
Speaker 3: come in, and then you and then you sign for
21:45
Speaker 3: three hundred. Now I got a problem, you know what
21:51
Speaker 3: I'm saying, Like i'm now or or say the negotiation
21:54
Speaker 3: we haven't actually signed there are they're promising me a hundred.
21:57
Speaker 3: They're gonna promise you three hundred, and I'm thinking, well, hunk, no, no,
22:02
Speaker 3: I'm not taking that hundred. I need four because I
22:04
Speaker 3: think I'm better than him. Like, are we not opening
22:07
Speaker 3: that window? I think you are. But I think again,
22:10
Speaker 3: if it was kind, you're right. But I think if
22:15
Speaker 3: the schools are are smart, and if the conferences are smart,
22:18
Speaker 3: they'll sort of set their own guidelines, so they'll say
22:22
Speaker 3: this is the vaute. It's just like in the NFL. Right,
22:25
Speaker 3: to use that example. In the NFL, you got like
22:28
Speaker 3: a number you can pretty much essentially pay per player
22:31
Speaker 3: on the roster, and you have the rookie salary cap, right, yeah,
22:37
Speaker 3: and then after that rookie salary cap, then you can
22:39
Speaker 3: renegotiate and that's kind of when the contracts can get
22:42
Speaker 3: absorbent or whatever like that. So I think if the conferences,
22:45
Speaker 3: if the school is smart, they're gonna say, hey, this
22:48
Speaker 3: is the freshman to sowborn do whatever cap and then
22:51
Speaker 3: after that you're probably gonna have incentives, and then once
22:54
Speaker 3: that contract is up, you're gonna be able to negotiate
22:57
Speaker 3: because what I think is gonna happen. I mean, because
23:00
Speaker 3: I think this could really quell the noise that the
23:04
Speaker 3: transfer portal was created. Because again, if I'm paying you
23:08
Speaker 3: directly from the school, oh yeah, you signing this two
23:11
Speaker 3: year deal, right.
23:13
Speaker 5: Which could exclude outside agencies. If it's part of the contract,
23:17
Speaker 5: they could they could exclude outside agencies from coming in
23:19
Speaker 5: and paying them even more.
23:21
Speaker 3: And that's the point, and that's the perfect because now
23:25
Speaker 3: the schools are going to have way more control if
23:27
Speaker 3: the first dollar is coming from the school. Because what
23:31
Speaker 3: from what I understand is just some of the things
23:33
Speaker 3: I've been hearing the nil collectives quote unquote now are
23:36
Speaker 3: going to turn into marketing agencies. So these n I
23:40
Speaker 3: l uh nil collectives, instead of just paying players arbitrarily,
23:46
Speaker 3: they're actually going to be able to transform into finding
23:51
Speaker 3: you know, sponsorships and deals for players, so you know,
23:53
Speaker 3: we can find this line and this thing the sponsor,
23:56
Speaker 3: this quarterback, this thing the sponsor, and they're actually going
23:59
Speaker 3: to be sort of stream in the deals as opposed
24:01
Speaker 3: to just giving out the money. So I think again
24:04
Speaker 3: this is the beginning of it. And let's say this.
24:06
Speaker 3: Let me say this, this should have happened twenty five
24:10
Speaker 3: years ago, said that. It's just I mean, whoever, the
24:14
Speaker 3: NCAA has just been the worst organization ever, and it
24:19
Speaker 3: took all this for this to happen. And now the
24:22
Speaker 3: challenge is going to be the major challenges because to
24:25
Speaker 3: your point, you've had the wild wild West for the
24:28
Speaker 3: last two three years, and now that money's going to
24:31
Speaker 3: be shrinking, that the money that they was getting, it
24:34
Speaker 3: ain't gonna be there no more. And I think the
24:36
Speaker 3: perfect example is just like what rookie contracts in the
24:38
Speaker 3: NFL were twenty years ago, when they was paying the
24:41
Speaker 3: first round draft pick one hundreds of millions of dollars,
24:44
Speaker 3: and then they figured out all you had, all these
24:45
Speaker 3: guys who didn't make it two or three years in
24:47
Speaker 3: the league. They say, we ain't doing that no more.
24:49
Speaker 3: We got to spell this thing back. So I think
24:51
Speaker 3: that's the example of what's about to happen here.
24:54
Speaker 5: Well, and can I play Devil's advocate for a minute, yere,
24:57
Speaker 5: So we're saying there's a salary cap now basically it's
25:00
Speaker 5: twenty point five million, right, Well, that's going to do
25:06
Speaker 5: for in my opinion, it's gonna be good for some schools,
25:10
Speaker 5: it's it's going to be not so good for others,
25:13
Speaker 5: and then for some it's not gonna matter anyway. Okay,
25:15
Speaker 5: So for example, your Alabama's, your Ohio States, your Notre Dames,
25:20
Speaker 5: they've been playing with way more money than twenty point
25:23
Speaker 5: five million dollars. So for them, that's gonna kind of
25:28
Speaker 5: be a step, you know, a downgrade right for your WVUS,
25:32
Speaker 5: for your mid tier teams that are playing with that
25:34
Speaker 5: sort of money right now, that's pretty much where they
25:37
Speaker 5: are in the twenty twenty ish million kind of for them,
25:40
Speaker 5: it's going to kind of level the playing field, right
25:41
Speaker 5: because now now they can kind of like rein in
25:44
Speaker 5: the NIL deals, you sign a contract with us all
25:47
Speaker 5: of that. Let's just face it. The teams like Marshall
25:50
Speaker 5: and the Sun Belt, it doesn't matter because they don't
25:53
Speaker 5: have that kind of money to play with anyway, and
25:55
Speaker 5: it never did. So for me, it's kind of bringing
25:58
Speaker 5: down and I just wonder what their thoughts are on that.
26:01
Speaker 5: You know that those high level teams that are year in,
26:05
Speaker 5: year out in the National Championship, the Georgia's, all of
26:07
Speaker 5: those SEC teams that you know, have lots of money
26:10
Speaker 5: to play with, wonder what that does for them?
26:13
Speaker 3: Okay, And to that point, just to counter what I
26:16
Speaker 3: would say is that this is going to be great
26:19
Speaker 3: for college sports, because what I think is happening is.
26:21
Speaker 5: That, well, I think it's good too.
26:23
Speaker 3: What and if all the schools, all the coaches, all
26:29
Speaker 3: the commissioners, all the eighties, what I think they all
26:32
Speaker 3: can agree on is that nil was not n I
26:35
Speaker 3: on transperport is not being good for college sports. No, right,
26:41
Speaker 3: I think, But you're right, and I think they agree.
26:43
Speaker 3: So now I think if they can all just get
26:46
Speaker 3: past their egos, if they can all get past their
26:49
Speaker 3: egos and say, look, everybody working with the same pot,
26:53
Speaker 3: at least the upfront pot at the at the upfront level,
27:00
Speaker 3: then it's gonna come back to recruiting. Then it's gonna
27:03
Speaker 3: come back to your coach, you seconds, and then it
27:07
Speaker 3: can come back to degree. Now to your point, where
27:09
Speaker 3: I agree is that I think the most challenging part
27:13
Speaker 3: of this is that if you have a school like
27:15
Speaker 3: South Carolina Gangcocks, because you have a the stars of
27:18
Speaker 3: that campus is the women's college basketball team, Yes, and
27:22
Speaker 3: then you have men's basketball, and then you gotta pay
27:24
Speaker 3: you gotta pay big Daddy, which is football. How are
27:27
Speaker 3: you gonna split that pot up that those schools are
27:30
Speaker 3: going to be the ones who are going to be
27:32
Speaker 3: like because Ohio State is just football. Let's face yeah,
27:37
Speaker 3: you can get a whole twenty this football and they
27:38
Speaker 3: could work out the rest, right, But teams, but you
27:42
Speaker 3: got good teams other than football.
27:44
Speaker 5: Basketball, even that men's men, that's even a little easier.
27:47
Speaker 3: But when you women's basketball, women's before we before, we
27:52
Speaker 3: before we jump there, before we jump there, breaking.
27:58
Speaker 5: Rules already, it's a good thing.
28:00
Speaker 3: Where was supposed we're trying to do a fifteen minute
28:03
Speaker 3: segment and breaking the complete Okay, we're going to take
28:06
Speaker 3: the break. We'll take a breaking, we'll cheat again. We'll
28:09
Speaker 3: be right back, ladies and gentlemen, all right, cats, the kittens,

29:39
Speaker 2: Now back to the conversation.
29:41
Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are we are back,
29:46
Speaker 3: and I'm gonna say I'm gonna hang in here on
29:48
Speaker 3: this conversation just because I'm trying to figure out you know,
29:54
Speaker 3: we're talking about all this money, and we're talking about
29:57
Speaker 3: Ohio State, We're talking about all these The teams were
30:00
Speaker 3: down to we even came down to wv U and
30:03
Speaker 3: that conference, and then we kind of skipped through the
30:06
Speaker 3: Marshall kind of thing. Because my question is, if you
30:11
Speaker 3: are going to do, if you're going to set a structure,
30:16
Speaker 3: where does that structure fall when you go to the
30:20
Speaker 3: Marshall level or when you go to the West Virginia
30:23
Speaker 3: State levels. Are you are you leaving them out to
30:28
Speaker 3: the point of they're going to have to find their
30:30
Speaker 3: own donors? Yes? And yeah, And and that was that
30:37
Speaker 3: was my That was my concern because I'm thinking that
30:40
Speaker 3: I don't I don't really think that that's fair because
30:42
Speaker 3: I think the twenty million is correct. Me if I'm
30:44
Speaker 3: wrong we're talking about Power fives, we're talking about the
30:47
Speaker 3: power I think it's all up to the top, but
30:51
Speaker 3: I don't, But why can't we create a situation that's
30:56
Speaker 3: that's that's okay, I'll just use these numbers. It's twenty
31:00
Speaker 3: at the top tier and five at the bottom tier.
31:03
Speaker 3: But it's all the same that everybody's getting something. I
31:07
Speaker 3: kind of I actually like that. I mean, I think
31:10
Speaker 3: I don't think.
31:11
Speaker 5: When you think about a salary cap, I mean it's
31:13
Speaker 5: basically your money is still coming from your donors, right,
31:16
Speaker 5: and this is revenue.
31:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is from the conferences, and so this is
31:22
Speaker 3: a revenue sharing model.
31:23
Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's just for the like you said, the top.
31:26
Speaker 3: Teams, because I mean essentially, like if you have a
31:29
Speaker 3: you know, a Molestay Conference West Virginia State, you see
31:32
Speaker 3: it seems like they're not generating generating that kind of money, right,
31:35
Speaker 3: which most they're left out, Yeah, which most even had
31:38
Speaker 3: like a Power five. If you can take of Alabama,
31:41
Speaker 3: most of those sports don't generate any revenue. It's football
31:43
Speaker 3: and basketball it's generating.
31:45
Speaker 5: Well, let me let me ask you this where where Okay,
31:47
Speaker 5: So part of the deal was the two point seven
31:50
Speaker 5: billion dollars settlement for former players.
31:52
Speaker 3: Normal players going back to twenty sixteen.
31:54
Speaker 5: Twenty sixteen that have not been able to they didn't
31:57
Speaker 5: get any benefit from an eye out. Okay, so it's
32:01
Speaker 5: anybody before twenty sixteen?
32:03
Speaker 3: Correct?
32:04
Speaker 5: Would that be you and Carl as Well?
32:05
Speaker 3: No? No, no, it's two twenty sixteen two, So it's
32:11
Speaker 3: twenty sixteen to two whenever they did the nil, which
32:15
Speaker 3: is probably four or five years.
32:16
Speaker 5: And that's what I was it was it twenty twenty
32:18
Speaker 5: one or yeah, twenty twenty one.
32:20
Speaker 3: I say something like that. Yeah, so we're talking about it.
32:22
Speaker 5: They did limit it. And where's the money coming from.
32:25
Speaker 5: That's revenue sharing as well. That you think it's just
32:27
Speaker 5: seven billion, I.
32:28
Speaker 3: Want to say that's from that that's in Cuba.
32:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I say wow, yeah, I mean that's a check.
32:35
Speaker 3: So that's just two eight billion dollars. So they're going
32:38
Speaker 3: to compensate, like you think about the Baker Mayfields and
32:41
Speaker 3: Zion Williams and the Kylin Murray's those guys. Yeah, the
32:44
Speaker 3: question with money, But some of these guys don't need it,
32:50
Speaker 3: I'm saying, I mean they don't they don't really need it.
32:53
Speaker 3: I mean I don't know what the point would be.
32:56
Speaker 3: It is I get to reach back, but you need
32:59
Speaker 3: to reach back to the players who maybe didn't get
33:01
Speaker 3: the opportunity to go to the next level. But it's
33:04
Speaker 3: not about that. It's the players who performed in college
33:07
Speaker 3: who would have gotten that check. So I think the
33:09
Speaker 3: house deal. So so you're the quarterback, I'm the center,
33:14
Speaker 3: so you got the attention, but hey, I gave you
33:16
Speaker 3: the ball. I mean he would have. He would have
33:18
Speaker 3: got something too. But I think what they're trying to
33:19
Speaker 3: do is they're going to go back analyze your fair market,
33:22
Speaker 3: your market value during that time, teams you played on,
33:25
Speaker 3: successful accolades, blah blah blah blah blah.
33:27
Speaker 5: It's going to be who's going.
33:28
Speaker 3: To do that. They got a whole squad that's doing
33:30
Speaker 3: it now. It's going to be incredibly difficult. I don't
33:33
Speaker 3: know everything about that. That's that's as well.
33:39
Speaker 5: Can you imagine there's formal players coming saying why did
33:42
Speaker 5: not get this nount? You got that amount. There's going
33:44
Speaker 5: to be more lawsuits coming out that.
33:46
Speaker 3: It depends on your situations, like if somebody if you
33:48
Speaker 3: if you broke busted and disgusting right now, somebody had
33:51
Speaker 3: your twenty thousand dollars check. I don't think you're arguing
33:53
Speaker 3: about it, but time, if you're Baker Mayfield, somebody had
33:57
Speaker 3: your five hundred thousand dollars check in. It's okay, I'll
34:01
Speaker 3: take the twenty at least I feel like I got something.
34:03
Speaker 3: But if you ain't giving me nothing, I got a
34:04
Speaker 3: problem that. Yeah. So all right, so all right, we're
34:10
Speaker 3: gonna we're gonna move on. And in case anybody's wondering,
34:16
Speaker 3: there's a there's a person in the in the studio
34:19
Speaker 3: with the packer hat on. Okay, which is? Which is?
34:26
Speaker 3: Which is?
34:26
Speaker 5: Really for a few weeks. That really offends me that
34:31
Speaker 5: she can't address you now.
34:33
Speaker 3: He puts that on. Yes, that's gonna be bored for sure.
34:37
Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers all right, now, let me just say this.
34:46
Speaker 3: This is what I this is what I see in
34:48
Speaker 3: this hole.
34:49
Speaker 5: I'm gonna interrupt Hollis. Remember in our text conversation, what
34:52
Speaker 5: what did he say about Aaron Rodgers He needs to
34:55
Speaker 5: do what he needs to go sit down?
34:57
Speaker 3: Is that not what he said? Yes? Yes, I don't
35:01
Speaker 3: see him. I don't see him being the quarterback he
35:08
Speaker 3: used to be. I just don't see him being that guy.
35:11
Speaker 3: Can he get on the team and lead a team.
35:14
Speaker 3: Maybe I just don't see him being as work as
35:20
Speaker 3: worthy as he thinks he is. And I and I
35:22
Speaker 3: and I think the league itself, Hollis is shaking heads.
35:27
Speaker 3: No upset.
35:30
Speaker 5: I'm not.
35:33
Speaker 3: I agree with you, But I don't think this is
35:34
Speaker 3: about Aaron Rodgers. What I think this says. This is
35:38
Speaker 3: about the Stellers organization, and this is their final straw
35:43
Speaker 3: with coach Tomlin. And basically what the Stealers are saying
35:48
Speaker 3: is that we're giving you one more year. We're giving
35:51
Speaker 3: you the best quarterback that we can find that could
35:54
Speaker 3: possibly give you one year. Okay, now I'm liking this
35:57
Speaker 3: that can give you, that can give you one year.
36:00
Speaker 3: And what we need to see during this one year
36:03
Speaker 3: is that we need to get some progression in the playoffs.
36:05
Speaker 3: So we want you to get to the playoffs. We
36:07
Speaker 3: want you to at least maybe get to a conference championship,
36:10
Speaker 3: and then after that we'll give you back the range.
36:12
Speaker 3: Because there's no way in the h double hockey sticks
36:17
Speaker 3: that you're gonna tell me that this was coach Tomlin's pick.
36:21
Speaker 3: There's no way I can say that. There's no because
36:24
Speaker 3: he passed up again, you got your door. You got
36:27
Speaker 3: all the quarterbacks that he passed the basically passed of everybody.
36:30
Speaker 3: And again, this wasn't the strongest quarterback class he could
36:32
Speaker 3: have traded. He could have got the kid from from
36:35
Speaker 3: New York that went to Minnesota thing which is uh,
36:40
Speaker 3: I can't think of the same right now, but the
36:42
Speaker 3: quarterback who was in New York. They could have made
36:44
Speaker 3: some moves other than this, But this was an organizational move.
36:48
Speaker 5: Okay, well, I'm gonna say this. I'm going to say this.
36:51
Speaker 5: The details about his contract have come out in the
36:53
Speaker 5: past few days, right, and I'm gonna just summarize it
36:56
Speaker 5: real quick. But honestly, the Steelers got quite the bargain
36:59
Speaker 5: over overall. Listen, no, listen, listen, because they set it
37:03
Speaker 5: up so that Aaron Rodgers is really going to have
37:05
Speaker 5: a tough time earning over his ten million fully guaranteed. Okay,
37:11
Speaker 5: here were some of the things that they put in
37:13
Speaker 5: the contract. The first thing is he has to play
37:16
Speaker 5: at least seventy percent of he has to take at
37:19
Speaker 5: least seventy percent of the offensive snaps throughout the season,
37:22
Speaker 5: which what that means you cannot have any detrimental injuries. Right,
37:26
Speaker 5: you can't have anything go wrong that relates to his physical,
37:31
Speaker 5: you know, ability and his right to play. Right, So
37:34
Speaker 5: he's got to do that up front. Okay, if he
37:35
Speaker 5: can get through that, if he can get seventy percent
37:37
Speaker 5: of the snaps, then they have set up six different
37:40
Speaker 5: things he has to do to make an additional five
37:43
Speaker 5: point eight five million. Now that the ten million is
37:45
Speaker 5: pretty much that's fully guaranteed, right, which.
37:47
Speaker 3: Is not that much for a quarterback, not for a quarterback, right.
37:51
Speaker 5: Okay, so okay, absolutely absolutely, So here are the six
37:57
Speaker 5: things he has to do, and they're they're pretty they're
37:59
Speaker 5: all related. There's ae qu actually. So first he has
38:01
Speaker 5: to make the playoffs. That's part of it. The second
38:03
Speaker 5: part is he has to win a divisional round and
38:06
Speaker 5: then he also has to or he has to make
38:09
Speaker 5: a divisional round playoff game, and then he has to
38:11
Speaker 5: win it. Okay, those are those are the first three.
38:13
Speaker 5: Then he has to win the AFC. That's number four.
38:16
Speaker 5: Number five is to take the Steelers to the super Bowl.
38:19
Speaker 5: And then number six, that would complete the whole you
38:23
Speaker 5: know shebang, would be for him to win the MVP
38:26
Speaker 5: Award at the Super Bowl.
38:27
Speaker 3: How much is that worth? So we said each piece is.
38:30
Speaker 5: Worth they had it broken down. I didn't write numbers down, Hollis,
38:33
Speaker 5: I apologize, but each piece is worth a part of
38:36
Speaker 5: the five point eight five. So she would do all
38:38
Speaker 5: six things and the seventy.
38:40
Speaker 3: Per can make fifteen exactly. So that's not that's not bad.
38:45
Speaker 3: That's that's not bad. That's going to be incentives in
38:50
Speaker 3: the contract. Yes, okay, so the ten is guaranteed and
38:53
Speaker 3: you get the llion dollars in the five million in
38:55
Speaker 3: the centive. Yep. So again, now that's what I'm trying
38:57
Speaker 3: to tell you. This was an organization move about Thomas.
39:05
Speaker 5: That's a great thought, because I didn't think.
39:07
Speaker 3: I did not think. That never crossed my mind. But
39:11
Speaker 3: now hearing you say it in the midst of it,
39:14
Speaker 3: and even with that contract, because that's just saying to
39:17
Speaker 3: your point least, that is a great deal for organization
39:20
Speaker 3: for a quarterback of that level, regardless of whether whatever
39:24
Speaker 3: age he is now. And basically what that says is
39:26
Speaker 3: that if we ain't accomplishing this, then Aaron Rodgers you're
39:29
Speaker 3: gone that and Thomas you go starting fresh. My question
39:34
Speaker 3: deal right now, So let me ask you this if
39:36
Speaker 3: I'm Thomlinson and I and I'm looking at this, I
39:40
Speaker 3: can see I should be able to see that my
39:44
Speaker 3: career is based off of his performance. Well, I ain't
39:47
Speaker 3: gonna say career because he'll get another coach. So yeah,
39:49
Speaker 3: but I'm saying here in Pittsburgh, it's time to one hundred.
39:56
Speaker 3: But if he didn't want him, how are you gonna
40:00
Speaker 3: tie me to somebody? I tell you that the organization
40:02
Speaker 3: don't want you.
40:04
Speaker 5: And we had that conversation early in the season, remember that,
40:07
Speaker 5: how we feel like he never got them past you know,
40:11
Speaker 5: the playoffs. You know, he got him to a certain
40:13
Speaker 5: point and then he would lose and the fans. We
40:16
Speaker 5: had that whole conversation about teams that are happy just
40:19
Speaker 5: to make the playoffs and those that continually make the
40:22
Speaker 5: playoffs and they don't produce, they don't win, they don't
40:24
Speaker 5: make a super Bowl, and they're at that point in Pittsburgh.
40:27
Speaker 3: And that's my problem because for me, for me, if
40:30
Speaker 3: I have a coach and you're leading me to the
40:32
Speaker 3: playoffs every single year, you're giving me a chance to
40:35
Speaker 3: win a super Bowl. So as long as we continue
40:37
Speaker 3: to get to the playoffs, then I'm going to continue
40:40
Speaker 3: to make let you to make the moves that you
40:42
Speaker 3: need to make. I don't understand is that I'm not
40:44
Speaker 3: if I'm Pittsburgh, I'm not doing this. I'm not getting
40:47
Speaker 3: rid of the Thomlins because he's getting me there. Now.
40:50
Speaker 3: We just got to work on, you know, getting over
40:52
Speaker 3: the hull. And and I think I think there are
40:56
Speaker 3: and we we as a as an organization, as the Vike,
41:00
Speaker 3: we we made that. Our general manager made that same
41:04
Speaker 3: gamble with her with with with herschel Walker like we
41:08
Speaker 3: were like we we were this ain't say this ain't
41:11
Speaker 3: de hersche Walker. Wait, yeah, I get that. But the
41:17
Speaker 3: idea was he was the guy that you needed. He
41:21
Speaker 3: was going to be the guy that was gonna take you.
41:23
Speaker 3: We could afford to lose all these different guys because
41:27
Speaker 3: he was so good that he could get us there.
41:32
Speaker 3: What But what what you found out was he really
41:34
Speaker 3: wasn't that good, nor was he.
41:38
Speaker 6: Was he.
41:40
Speaker 3: Acceptable in the locker room. He just wasn't a guy
41:43
Speaker 3: that that guy. You know, he wasn't there like hey,
41:46
Speaker 3: hars He wasn't really the team player he was. He
41:49
Speaker 3: was just himself. And I and I bring this up
41:52
Speaker 3: only because when you start trying to rely on a player.
41:58
Speaker 3: When you try to think that that's the guy, you
42:01
Speaker 3: make some really really bad decisions. Because I don't care
42:04
Speaker 3: what anybody says. Football in itself, it's a it's a legitimate,
42:10
Speaker 3: full team thing. And I think what an organization like
42:14
Speaker 3: the Stillers, they become so spoiled where they think that
42:17
Speaker 3: every year you're supposed to be like having this super
42:20
Speaker 3: Bowl run, And I think what they don't realize they're
42:23
Speaker 3: in the playoffs every single year. They not too many
42:28
Speaker 3: organizations I can say that, no organization can really say
42:32
Speaker 3: that when you talk about the number of playoff runs
42:34
Speaker 3: that they done had over the years, whether your first
42:37
Speaker 3: second round, division whatever, conference championship, super Bowls, because your
42:42
Speaker 3: record record out. But they they don't care. And there's
42:46
Speaker 3: so many teams that are there for one year, then
42:48
Speaker 3: gone for ten years, then up and down, up and down,
42:51
Speaker 3: up and down. Where they've been the model of consistency.
42:54
Speaker 3: So I just moves like it's to your point where
42:57
Speaker 3: you because basically sort of juxtaposition the vikings and the
43:02
Speaker 3: vikings where y'all gave up a bunch of players. You
43:04
Speaker 3: the Stillers in this move have potentially giving up a
43:07
Speaker 3: Hall of Fame coach, and I just don't understand why.
43:10
Speaker 5: You would do that. I think a lot of the
43:11
Speaker 5: Steeler nation would agree with you. They're not they're not
43:14
Speaker 5: happy about this Aaron Rodgers move.
43:16
Speaker 3: Most of that don't make sense to me.
43:17
Speaker 5: I mean, and you can see why.
43:19
Speaker 3: I mean.
43:19
Speaker 5: Things that we've talked about me, A lot of them
43:21
Speaker 5: are are skeptical, skeptical of his locker room chemistry. You know,
43:25
Speaker 5: we know what he's capable of doing there, the fact
43:29
Speaker 5: that it's a one year commitment, that that the fans
43:31
Speaker 5: are like, you know, we know this is temporary. He's older,
43:34
Speaker 5: you know, even if he gets us there this year,
43:36
Speaker 5: this is a this is a temporary fix for a
43:38
Speaker 5: permanent problem. We need a quarterback.
43:40
Speaker 3: And then you don't even have a backup. You didn't
43:42
Speaker 3: draft the backup, right that they sort of can come
43:44
Speaker 3: in like a love for the papers, Right, I was
43:46
Speaker 3: gonna I was going to I was going to say
43:49
Speaker 3: that that was gonna be my next thing. Who's who
43:53
Speaker 3: is going to play? Because you're what you're saying is
43:56
Speaker 3: you're thinking, you're hoping, you're praying that he can play
43:59
Speaker 3: all season, playoff the contract. Yeah, we're we're making you
44:07
Speaker 3: go seventy We're making you go seventy percent. But in
44:11
Speaker 3: all reality, you want him to play if you because
44:13
Speaker 3: he can play seventy percent, you still not even make
44:15
Speaker 3: the play shower for sure. So that's not your goal.
44:19
Speaker 3: Your goal is trying to get to the bowl, right
44:21
Speaker 3: and win it. That's my thought. You're trying to get there.
44:25
Speaker 3: Do you think he's your guy that's gonna get you there.
44:29
Speaker 3: Apparently they do that because they wrote it in the contract.
44:32
Speaker 3: Apparently apparently they do. And it's just like to me,
44:35
Speaker 3: if you take like in it's kind of funny that
44:37
Speaker 3: I would say that, But like, if you take the
44:38
Speaker 3: Packers and the Steelers, the Packers have done a great
44:41
Speaker 3: job of cultivating quarterbacks. You gotta go back from Brett
44:44
Speaker 3: Fahr to the eighties to now. They've always had a
44:47
Speaker 3: quarter but still he solid quarterback all you says, right,
44:56
Speaker 3: And if you take the steal and if you take
44:58
Speaker 3: the Steelers, they've always had a consistent good team. So
45:02
Speaker 3: it's to me, why wouldn't it Stillers take that same approach,
45:05
Speaker 3: draft the young guy. At least if you're gonna bring
45:08
Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers there for you, a young guys.
45:11
Speaker 5: Somebody. But that was Remember, that was the conversation we had.
45:14
Speaker 5: Aaron watched the draft before he made a commitment to
45:17
Speaker 5: Pittsburgh because he won.
45:19
Speaker 3: You think he did that for real? No, that was
45:22
Speaker 3: that was part of what I read.
45:23
Speaker 5: No, he said he waited until the draft was sober.
45:25
Speaker 5: No he didn't. I don't know that for sure, but
45:27
Speaker 5: I mean that's what social media.
45:29
Speaker 3: Gotcha, gotcha, Yeah, because because think about it. If you
45:31
Speaker 3: bring in a quarterback you won, You're gonna pay him
45:35
Speaker 3: and he's expecting to play. But you ain't starting on
45:38
Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers if you wanted it not not in this draft.
45:41
Speaker 5: Was afraid.
45:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, but I would take Aaron Rodgers probably over any
45:45
Speaker 3: of these guys a year. But I'm gonna but I'm
45:48
Speaker 3: gonna tell you if I'm if I'm a college quarterback
45:51
Speaker 3: and I'm coming out this year and you're you're considering
45:54
Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers, my thing is, okay, it's either me or Aaron.
45:58
Speaker 3: You don't got that leverage. It's not in the fifth round,
46:07
Speaker 3: and use your door saying that you ain't got not
46:09
Speaker 3: if you're in the fifth round. You but if you
46:13
Speaker 3: like you said, it was none of those quarterbacks to
46:15
Speaker 3: your point list is none of those guys livers, So
46:20
Speaker 3: you got something. I was I was still in the
46:24
Speaker 3: mood of fighting this issue with with Aaron Rodgers. But
46:30
Speaker 3: we're gonna We're gonna move on. At least I'm gonna
46:34
Speaker 3: allow you if you want to say anything else about
46:38
Speaker 3: the packing success your team. And I know he's going
46:42
Speaker 3: to Pittsburgh, which I think is okay, it's not your team, Okay,
46:49
Speaker 3: Jay Jordans was is a diehard Pittsburgh fan. Yes, you
46:52
Speaker 3: know so, but at least if you want to close out,
46:55
Speaker 3: if you got anything.
46:57
Speaker 5: I just wanted to say. One of my best friends,
47:00
Speaker 5: we actually the girl I was on vacation with last week.
47:02
Speaker 5: She is a die hard Stealers fan, and so she
47:05
Speaker 5: was kind of lukewarm. She was just like, you know,
47:08
Speaker 5: hope for the best and expect the worst, you know
47:10
Speaker 5: what I mean. That was her attitude. And we're actually
47:12
Speaker 5: going to the game. She and I are going to
47:13
Speaker 5: that Sunday night football game in Pittsburgh, So that ought
47:15
Speaker 5: to be interesting. I'll maybe go live or something, want something.
47:18
Speaker 3: Fun with it. But I just don't, like I said,
47:20
Speaker 3: I just don't see Jordan love again. That's success. I
47:23
Speaker 3: just don't see. Okay, they gonna make a run, all right,
47:28
Speaker 3: So we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna change topics. Thank
47:31
Speaker 3: you track athletes, high school track athletes celebrating. Now you
47:40
Speaker 3: know what you gotta set up? What does she do?
47:42
Speaker 3: California trying to run a four hundred? What does she do?
47:47
Speaker 3: I think it's the independent. California has these weird high
47:50
Speaker 3: school conference or whatever. Yes, but she's a track athlete.
47:53
Speaker 3: She's a four hundred runner. This is the state meet,
47:55
Speaker 3: state final. She runs the four hundred, she wins the
47:57
Speaker 3: four hundred. In her celebration, she takes a fire hose
48:01
Speaker 3: in fire hoses her shoes, simulating that you know, she
48:04
Speaker 3: was super hot and everything like that. And their track
48:08
Speaker 3: high schoo commission whatever they strip her of the title.
48:11
Speaker 3: So there you go. Okay, So if I if I
48:17
Speaker 3: win a hundred yard dash and there's some really good
48:20
Speaker 3: people in the hundred yard dash one hundred meters, actually,
48:24
Speaker 3: I guess I should probably say it that way. I
48:27
Speaker 3: want to be able to have, you know, I want
48:30
Speaker 3: to be a celebrate. I don't I don't know where
48:34
Speaker 3: and why you can what? You can? Maybe warn me
48:38
Speaker 3: you could maybe I don't know, do something, but you
48:42
Speaker 3: can't take you can't. You can't take me from winning.
48:46
Speaker 3: I want, you know what I'm saying, I want, and
48:49
Speaker 3: you're gonna come. You gonna because I'm celebrating and you
48:53
Speaker 3: don't like that celebration, or you're trying to make a
48:56
Speaker 3: point to nobody's gonna celebrate in our sport to that degree,
49:02
Speaker 3: well what what was the warning of that degree? But
49:05
Speaker 3: it's like if you take a prop. You know again,
49:09
Speaker 3: I think that the High School Commission was right in
49:13
Speaker 3: being punitive in this because what happens is that if
49:17
Speaker 3: we allow you to do this, you actually it wasn't
49:20
Speaker 3: like you just jumping up, jumping around, take a victory lap.
49:22
Speaker 3: You celebrate with your teammates, that's one thing, but you
49:25
Speaker 3: had a coordinated prop. And if that's the start, then
49:29
Speaker 3: where does it end. It's gonna be all these celebrations,
49:32
Speaker 3: gonna be all this. So we have to take a stand.
49:34
Speaker 3: Now to your point, that can't strip you of a
49:37
Speaker 3: track title when you won the title. It ain't like
49:39
Speaker 3: he was on pds or something like that. You can't
49:43
Speaker 3: title you want it. If I'm second place, I don't
49:45
Speaker 3: want it didn't win it in myselver, so what I
49:49
Speaker 3: think they should have done. She's an underclassman. We're gonna
49:53
Speaker 3: punish you from doing that, and then we're gonna make
49:56
Speaker 3: you sit out next year. Are you sitting out them?
49:58
Speaker 3: First three meets? You said we're gonna do something next
50:01
Speaker 3: year to punish you for the thing you did this year.
50:03
Speaker 3: Not again. Work is complicated if you have a senior
50:06
Speaker 3: So maybe it's a fine. Maybe I don't know what
50:10
Speaker 3: it is. But they had to do something. Now, whether
50:12
Speaker 3: that punishment was right or not, but they had.
50:14
Speaker 5: To do it.
50:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I'm OK. No, I'm not. I'm not really,
50:21
Speaker 3: I'm not. I don't really. I'm looking at what we
50:25
Speaker 3: do in all other sports and but we don't do
50:30
Speaker 3: that in football. You can't take no foreign object, no
50:34
Speaker 3: but but you, but you can celebrate.
50:36
Speaker 5: Well, let me talking about a myer extinguisher that has
50:40
Speaker 5: dangerous chemicals on the field around other parts.
50:46
Speaker 3: What you're getting. But the point that you're making though,
50:50
Speaker 3: is is like my you know I'm on fire, my feet.
50:52
Speaker 5: Are on fire, gets a safety hazard, Like it's not
50:57
Speaker 5: that's you just don't do that. Now. I do know
50:59
Speaker 5: that that was a reference to another track star. Somebody
51:02
Speaker 5: did that Maurice Screen, I think it's his name, and
51:05
Speaker 5: so that's what she was. She was mimicking something that
51:07
Speaker 5: he did during his celebrations after winning. You know, these
51:10
Speaker 5: these different sprints. But still you're in high school and
51:15
Speaker 5: you and and dad was her coach or he was,
51:19
Speaker 5: I'm not sure, brought her the fire extinguisher from what
51:22
Speaker 5: I understand, so Dad was an accomplice. And according to
51:27
Speaker 5: what Dad said, at first, everybody was cool with it, like,
51:30
Speaker 5: oh yay, woo, it's cool, you know, even the even
51:33
Speaker 5: the officials. And then they backed up and took a
51:35
Speaker 5: look and looked and said, you know what, we probably
51:38
Speaker 5: shouldn't be cool with that, and they shouldn't be. They
51:41
Speaker 5: shouldn't be, but I will, I will put this in
51:43
Speaker 5: their Hollis and this was a reporter in California. I
51:47
Speaker 5: looked up the article because when I when I saw
51:49
Speaker 5: this in the text, I thought a celebration and I
51:51
Speaker 5: thought what could this be? And then when I got
51:53
Speaker 5: into it, I was like, oh my gosh, this is awesome.
51:55
Speaker 5: So good job, kudos to Hollis. We're bringing this on that.
51:58
Speaker 5: It was what they revealed after twenty years of state
52:02
Speaker 5: championship research, no other instance of disqualification was ever given
52:08
Speaker 5: to any type of athlete for unsportsmanlike conduct.
52:12
Speaker 3: This was what she was.
52:13
Speaker 5: So there is therein lies the problem. She should, like
52:18
Speaker 5: you said, she should be punished in some fashion, but
52:21
Speaker 5: not in that fashion. She should not be you know,
52:24
Speaker 5: they should not take away what she she won.
52:27
Speaker 3: And I hate when Leeds do this. I hate when
52:29
Speaker 3: like NCAA al Reggie Bush did whatever he took money,
52:32
Speaker 3: We're gonna take wins away. Like what are you talking about,
52:35
Speaker 3: We're gonna take your heisman away. Stop it. You can't
52:37
Speaker 3: take some way that that person earns. Because you know
52:40
Speaker 3: what I'm saying, it's another way to do this. And
52:42
Speaker 3: who takes outside of it. Who wants to take that
52:45
Speaker 3: heisman when you know you didn't win it? Yeah, like
52:49
Speaker 3: you already know, Like I'm not if I'm this athlete,
52:51
Speaker 3: if I'm like the second place, I'm not taking the gold.
52:54
Speaker 3: I don't want it. I didn't. I was the runner
52:56
Speaker 3: up that year, and that's what it was. And the
52:58
Speaker 3: fact of the matter is that it kind of going
53:00
Speaker 3: back to dad, Dad, what are you thinking? Why are
53:02
Speaker 3: you doing this? Bring? Like I said, even football now
53:05
Speaker 3: I can say, and I want to correct myself. Football,
53:08
Speaker 3: we do have little props now, like so when you
53:10
Speaker 3: go get an interception, you'll get like the championship belt,
53:13
Speaker 3: we get the gold chain and all that, but we
53:15
Speaker 3: do that on the sideline, number one. So that's that's
53:18
Speaker 3: all into the silent dangerous, not on the field. So
53:22
Speaker 3: he could have brought her a crown. He could have
53:24
Speaker 3: brought it like a little championship belt. It's a whole
53:27
Speaker 3: range of things he could have done other than that.
53:30
Speaker 3: What I'm saying is that that's taking it too far
53:34
Speaker 3: because now it's all playing out, You're not You're you're
53:38
Speaker 3: thinking about the race, obviously because she won, but you're
53:41
Speaker 3: also thinking about all this other stuff. So it's like
53:43
Speaker 3: the kid who gets third and fourth place, they probably
53:46
Speaker 3: are now thinking about their celebration too. In you third
53:49
Speaker 3: fourth place, like think about your race because you're just
53:52
Speaker 3: happy that you got third. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
53:54
Speaker 3: So it's like, again they were correct and punishment, but
53:59
Speaker 3: I think lawsuit that's probably gonna be rectified. She'll probably
54:02
Speaker 3: get that crown back, but having something.
54:05
Speaker 5: But there should be some type of ramification for what.
54:09
Speaker 3: Shouldn't they have prepared themselves for for some potential thing
54:16
Speaker 3: so that they didn't do this. Because if now we
54:19
Speaker 3: who whoever the governing body the government.
54:24
Speaker 5: I think in California, California Independent Federation, Yeah, it's likes WVS.
54:32
Speaker 3: We don't see. We're not dealing with that. We don't
54:35
Speaker 3: have a we don't have a structure to say, well,
54:40
Speaker 3: if you if you celebrate that way, we're gonna we're
54:44
Speaker 3: gonna punish you this way. I don't but I don't
54:47
Speaker 3: anticipate that.
54:48
Speaker 5: I don't think there's a difference between a crown or
54:50
Speaker 5: a belt and a fire exit. That's like comparing apples
54:55
Speaker 5: and oranges. I'm sorry, that's just that's not good common sense.
54:58
Speaker 3: I'm with you, I'm one hundred percent with I really am.
55:01
Speaker 3: But what I don't get one Dad knew, That's what
55:07
Speaker 3: I don't like that. Dad knew you do that. And
55:09
Speaker 3: I think dad knew and his dad was proud of
55:11
Speaker 3: his daughter, and he you know, he wanted to put
55:13
Speaker 3: a show on. He wanted her to put a show on.
55:15
Speaker 3: But we don't do that. You already pit a show
55:17
Speaker 3: and you want a four hundred in California, Yes, that
55:20
Speaker 3: is a four hundred quarter a four hundred meter race
55:24
Speaker 3: in California. Did you you you put on the show already?
55:27
Speaker 3: Show over? What's Dad thinking? What's Dad thinking? I think
55:31
Speaker 3: Dad thinking probably daughter asked him, he just appeased, or
55:34
Speaker 3: he's trying to get extra He's thinking about the extra
55:36
Speaker 3: tension that it could generate. He's maybe Dad is thinking
55:39
Speaker 3: about but maybe Dad is thinking about going viral, you
55:42
Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. So he could have been thinking
55:44
Speaker 3: of all those thoughts not even considering any punishment that
55:47
Speaker 3: could be handed down. Because my thing is, have we
55:51
Speaker 3: had somebody and it's just high school. I was gonna say,
55:55
Speaker 3: at least in high school, we've never had anybody. I
55:58
Speaker 3: don't know if anybody ever disqualified for celebrating. I'm sure maybe,
56:06
Speaker 3: but I mean even here in our state track we
56:08
Speaker 3: had and we won't go into it, but we had
56:10
Speaker 3: a little controversy and our state track meet, you know
56:13
Speaker 3: what I'm saying, with some paraphernalia that was being worn.
56:15
Speaker 3: But I just think, I don't I don't know. To me,
56:19
Speaker 3: this was just way too far and and Dad needs
56:22
Speaker 3: to take some accountability. Even his comments that he made
56:24
Speaker 3: in the interviews, he just lacked accountability. He lacked perspective.
56:29
Speaker 3: He should have just and and I think he was
56:31
Speaker 3: sort of p o because of the stripping of the title.
56:35
Speaker 3: But but who's fault with that? That's that? Yeah, from
56:43
Speaker 3: under the sink. Yeah, yeah, he took the fire sings
56:46
Speaker 3: from home and see, and I need to check my
56:48
Speaker 3: fires and I would. I don't buy. I just don't.
56:54
Speaker 3: I'm not okay, you won, you want and your and
56:59
Speaker 3: your celebration is a whole other thing. Whether it's a
57:02
Speaker 3: fine on the coach, which might is probably the dad
57:06
Speaker 3: or something, but not the kid. The kid doesn't understand
57:10
Speaker 3: because she probably did what she was told. Nah, I
57:18
Speaker 3: don't she understood exactly what she was. I think she did.
57:22
Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is, I'm thinking dad's propping this up. Nah.
57:26
Speaker 3: I think she was propping it up. And then dad
57:28
Speaker 3: was just complicit. Now yeah, I'm not to say the
57:32
Speaker 3: te responsibility. Ultimately, it's the adult's responsibility to say no,
57:37
Speaker 3: we shouldn't do that. Yeah, but I think her dad,
57:40
Speaker 3: let's do this all right. I think he was just
57:43
Speaker 3: like that. I don't think it was his idea to
57:46
Speaker 3: do that. I don't even know how like, I don't
57:48
Speaker 3: even know what I would even say if if I know,
57:54
Speaker 3: I like, I got daughters, you want to do this?
57:57
Speaker 3: What are you talking about? Like, I wouldn't be like
58:00
Speaker 3: I couldn't comprehend that, you know, I'm like, you know,
58:03
Speaker 3: so I don't even believe that.
58:04
Speaker 5: Maybe that's why he didn't comprehend it, like he just
58:07
Speaker 5: didn't know what she was gonna do with it. Maybe
58:08
Speaker 5: he said she said, I'm just gonna walk around with
58:10
Speaker 5: it in her hands. Who knows.
58:13
Speaker 3: And the thing is, you could have you could have
58:15
Speaker 3: did that like after the track meet, you mean timely,
58:18
Speaker 3: this is always yeah, pardon me, right, yeah, but you
58:20
Speaker 3: could have did that. He could have got that off.
58:22
Speaker 3: It's just that I'm I'm I'm in and out on
58:26
Speaker 3: that one. I kind of liked it, but I kind
58:31
Speaker 3: of liked it, but you know, I guess you know
58:33
Speaker 3: it is what it is. All Right, ladies and gentlemen,
