- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to come Back to Love with your host, Robin Vogel.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Each week at this same time, come Back to Love
- 0:08Speaker 1: covers an endless array of topics related to relationships, love
- 0:12Speaker 1: and intimacy, along with all the reasons you may be
- 0:15Speaker 1: keeping love at a distance. Can a shattered heart be
- 0:18Speaker 1: your doorway to your greatest love story? Robin will give
- 0:21Speaker 1: you practical tools that can be used to heal the
- 0:23Speaker 1: past and help you to safely love again. And now
- 0:27Speaker 1: today's come Back to Love.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Welcome, Welcome, everybody to my first episode of come Back
- 0:37Speaker 2: to Love. We are on k m ET Radio and
- 0:44Speaker 2: this is Robin Vogel and I want to invite you
- 0:47Speaker 2: in this moment to come back to love with me.
- 0:51Speaker 2: This is episode one. I'm so excited to be here.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Thank you for listening in. I will be here every
- 0:57Speaker 2: week Thursdays at one thirty pm Pacific, and that's for
- 1:04Speaker 2: thirty pm Eastern for those of you listening on the
- 1:06Speaker 2: East Coast. Welcome, Welcome. I decided to call this episode
- 1:14Speaker 2: why I created this show and why now? And I'm
- 1:19Speaker 2: going to spend some time today answering that question for you.
- 1:23Speaker 2: So first, I wanted to just take a moment to
- 1:26Speaker 2: introduce myself. I'm Robin Vogel. I am the founder of
- 1:30Speaker 2: the business and the coaching practice and the book Come
- 1:35Speaker 2: Back to Love and the radio show Come Back to Love.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I am an author, a psychotherapist, love an intimacy coach,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and I am someone who has been working in the
- 1:47Speaker 2: field of relationships and love and intimacy for twenty five years.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I've supported couples, I've supported individuals, all with a purpose
- 2:00Speaker 2: of looking at and identifying, discovering and identifying the blocks
- 2:09Speaker 2: that show up in the heart. Somebody this morning described
- 2:11Speaker 2: it as ice frozen covering their heart. And in that
- 2:19Speaker 2: case of this particular couple that I spoke with this morning,
- 2:22Speaker 2: it was really blocking them from being in love after
- 2:27Speaker 2: twenty five years of being married. It was really blocking
- 2:29Speaker 2: them from connecting, from opening up to each other. They
- 2:33Speaker 2: were living pretty good parallel lives, raising three kids, doing
- 2:38Speaker 2: pretty well, and had some years of disconnection. One of
- 2:44Speaker 2: them was working extra hard, the other one was home
- 2:46Speaker 2: with the kids, and the disconnection sort of slowly, slowly,
- 2:50Speaker 2: slowly built up a wall, and one of them feels
- 2:57Speaker 2: like her heart is just closed and covered up with ice, frozen,
- 3:04Speaker 2: frozen in time, frozen in fear, and so my work,
- 3:08Speaker 2: this is just an example I'm giving you in this moment,
- 3:10Speaker 2: But my work is to support you in finding those
- 3:15Speaker 2: places that are frozen, that are afraid that we're hurt
- 3:20Speaker 2: and don't want to be hurt again, and therefore keeping
- 3:23Speaker 2: love at a distance. Either it's kept you out of
- 3:28Speaker 2: relationship completely, or you're in relationship and it's kept you
- 3:33Speaker 2: distant from your partner, And either way, in any case,
- 3:37Speaker 2: there is healing to do so that you can come
- 3:42Speaker 2: back to love with yourself first and foremost and with
- 3:46Speaker 2: each other. So I'm Robin Bogel, and I have the
- 3:50Speaker 2: honor and the pleasure of doing that work on a
- 3:53Speaker 2: daily basis with the most incredibly beautiful, earnest people. Yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 2: it's been an incredible gift all these years, and I'm
- 4:06Speaker 2: so excited to share it with you here on the
- 4:08Speaker 2: radio every week. So there's a moment that most of
- 4:14Speaker 2: us have had. Maybe it's two am and you're lying awake,
- 4:19Speaker 2: wondering how you ended up here, And maybe you're like
- 4:23Speaker 2: the clients that I just spoke about, feeling alone or
- 4:27Speaker 2: lonely inside, lonely inside a relationship, or replaying love that
- 4:32Speaker 2: didn't work. Out the way you would hoped. Or maybe
- 4:38Speaker 2: it's a Thursday afternoon and you're fine, you're successful, you're busy,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you're okay, and then a song comes on the radio
- 4:48Speaker 2: or you see a couple holding hands, and something in
- 4:51Speaker 2: you quietly aches that ache is not a problem, that
- 4:59Speaker 2: ache actually the most a live part of you. I'm
- 5:03Speaker 2: gonna say that again. I know that that would be
- 5:06Speaker 2: a paradigm shift for anybody listening. That ache is not
- 5:10Speaker 2: a problem. That's probably the most important piece there, because
- 5:13Speaker 2: most people that I speak to feel like their feelings
- 5:18Speaker 2: are a problem. I feel sad, I feel angry, I
- 5:21Speaker 2: feel like I keep repeating patterns. I feel like I'm
- 5:23Speaker 2: so stupid. Why did I stay in that abusive relationship?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Why did I go back to that abusive relationship? And
- 5:30Speaker 2: most people describe that as a problem they're having that
- 5:33Speaker 2: needs to be fixed. So I'm taking and do take
- 5:37Speaker 2: a completely different approach to this work, and you'll you'll
- 5:41Speaker 2: get to know me and you'll get to know the
- 5:43Speaker 2: work as you listen to this radio show each week.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So I'm gonna say again a third time that ache
- 5:48Speaker 2: is not a problem, that ache is actually the most
- 5:51Speaker 2: a live part of you. It's your heart saying I
- 5:56Speaker 2: haven't given up. I still believe that's something more is possible.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Welcome to come back to Love again. I'm Robin Vogel
- 6:08Speaker 2: and this is km ET Radio, and this show exists
- 6:13Speaker 2: because of that ache and because of what I've learned
- 6:17Speaker 2: in twenty plus years of sitting with people in their
- 6:20Speaker 2: most tender and courageous moments, sitting with people listening to
- 6:30Speaker 2: what they have to say and what it takes to
- 6:34Speaker 2: answer the yearning for love. So stay with me. This
- 6:41Speaker 2: radio show is going to be a combination of sharing
- 6:44Speaker 2: and offering you practices. If you're driving, you can do
- 6:50Speaker 2: the practices while you're driving. If you're taking a walk
- 6:53Speaker 2: and listening to the radio, you can pause and sit down,
- 6:57Speaker 2: take a moment. If you're listening to a replay somewhere,
- 7:01Speaker 2: because we know this has aired all over the place,
- 7:04Speaker 2: all over the world, you can take time. You can go,
- 7:08Speaker 2: grab your journal and pen a cup of coffee or
- 7:11Speaker 2: tea and sit down and do some of the exercises
- 7:14Speaker 2: that I will be sharing with you each week, some
- 7:16Speaker 2: of them from my book come Back to Love, a
- 7:18Speaker 2: Path to Healing that was just published a couple months ago.
- 7:21Speaker 2: February twenty twenty six. That can be found anywhere online
- 7:26Speaker 2: and at your local library if you request it. Published
- 7:29Speaker 2: by Cooler Books. Really exciting to have a book out
- 7:33Speaker 2: into the world. So before I tell you a little
- 7:39Speaker 2: bit more about what I do, I want to tell
- 7:42Speaker 2: you who I am. Because I didn't come to this
- 7:46Speaker 2: work from the outside. I came to this work from
- 7:49Speaker 2: the inside. I know what it's like to have done
- 7:52Speaker 2: everything right, the therapy, the self help books, the workshops,
- 7:57Speaker 2: the journaling, and still find myself in the same patterns,
- 8:03Speaker 2: still drawn to people who aren't quite available, still giving
- 8:09Speaker 2: more than I was receiving, Still wondering why love feels
- 8:13Speaker 2: so hard when everything else in life seems to be working.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I know what it's like to rebuild after heartbreak, to
- 8:24Speaker 2: look in the mirror after a relationship ends, or in
- 8:26Speaker 2: my case, my partner dies, and ask what is it
- 8:30Speaker 2: in me that keeps creating situations that end over and
- 8:36Speaker 2: over and over again. I actually had a divorce first,
- 8:38Speaker 2: and then a partner who passed away that question asked
- 8:43Speaker 2: honestly with curiosity instead of self blame. That question changed
- 8:47Speaker 2: my life, and it's the question that became my life's work.
- 8:53Speaker 2: So again. My name is Robin Vogel. I'm a psychotherapist,
- 8:56Speaker 2: a love an intimacy coach, and the author of Come
- 8:58Speaker 2: Back to Love, A Path to Healing. For over twenty years,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I've been helping people do what I had to learn
- 9:04Speaker 2: to do myself. Heal the past, understand the patterns, and
- 9:08Speaker 2: create the kind of love that actually is real. Not
- 9:12Speaker 2: the love that looks good on paper, not the love
- 9:15Speaker 2: that feels like a roller coaster you can't get off,
- 9:20Speaker 2: but the love that feels like finally, this this is
- 9:23Speaker 2: what I was looking for. You See, when I was young,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I lost my mother. She died when I was ten
- 9:31Speaker 2: years old. She got sick when I was six years old.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And in those days, in the early seventies, people didn't talk,
- 9:40Speaker 2: never mind about their feelings. They didn't talk about anything.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And the wisdom I say that lately from the doctors
- 9:51Speaker 2: was don't talk about what's happening, you know, with the kids.
- 9:57Speaker 2: When my mother was sick, when she had a doctor
- 10:00Speaker 2: who said to her, oh, that's nothing, go home, go home,
- 10:05Speaker 2: and you know, put your feet up and relax, you'll
- 10:07Speaker 2: feel better. And a year later the cancer had metastasized
- 10:11Speaker 2: to her whole body. Let's pretend everything's okay. Shuffle the
- 10:18Speaker 2: kids here and there during surgeries, during treatments when we
- 10:23Speaker 2: just couldn't take another day of doing anything but focusing
- 10:26Speaker 2: on ourselves. Will drop the kids off down the street
- 10:29Speaker 2: at the neighbors. But let's not tell the children what's
- 10:33Speaker 2: actually going on. This trauma in my life has been
- 10:41Speaker 2: a massive undertaking of understanding what happened and how it's
- 10:48Speaker 2: impacted me, and how it has impacted me, and even
- 10:53Speaker 2: now with all the work, how it still impacts me,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you know, because it's so profound, deep and healing is ongoing.
- 11:05Speaker 2: So I share that with you so that my listeners
- 11:09Speaker 2: can know me better. Certainly reach out to me. If
- 11:13Speaker 2: you've had any type of experience that reverberates or reflects
- 11:18Speaker 2: something similar, you can always write to me at Robin
- 11:21Speaker 2: at comebacktolove dot com. I want to say that right now,
- 11:24Speaker 2: Robin with a why. Robin is spelled with a why
- 11:27Speaker 2: at comeback to love dot com. That's all spelled out.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Feel free to put km E T in the subject
- 11:32Speaker 2: line and just say yes, I had a similar experience
- 11:36Speaker 2: of loss when I was a child and it continues
- 11:39Speaker 2: to impact me every single day of my life, and
- 11:42Speaker 2: I haven't figured out how to heal what should I
- 11:46Speaker 2: do next? Because I would just I love to connect
- 11:49Speaker 2: with people. My work is all about intimacy and connection,
- 11:52Speaker 2: and I would love to connect with you. So I
- 11:53Speaker 2: just want to say that, like, there's nothing like two
- 11:55Speaker 2: people meeting each other and saying, yes, I hear you,
- 11:59Speaker 2: I understand you. I had a similar experience that is
- 12:02Speaker 2: like such a profound moment. So you are always welcome.
- 12:05Speaker 1: To do that.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Okay, So that's a bit about my story. I will
- 12:10Speaker 2: share more, but that's where I am coming from. I'm
- 12:14Speaker 2: coming from a very dysfunctional environment where the relationships between
- 12:19Speaker 2: parent and child and sibling to sibling were very strained
- 12:24Speaker 2: and very difficult, and I have needed to figure out,
- 12:27Speaker 2: you know, and identify what really happened, what really really
- 12:30Speaker 2: happened all those years, not only before my mother got
- 12:34Speaker 2: not only when my mother died, but before she got sick,
- 12:37Speaker 2: and then after she died, and how it was handled
- 12:39Speaker 2: in the family. So that's been an unraveling over many years,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and it has brought me to my work, this incredibly
- 12:47Speaker 2: beautiful work that I do with others and continue to
- 12:50Speaker 2: do with myself. So One of the things that has
- 12:53Speaker 2: brought that it has brought me to is that I've
- 12:55Speaker 2: led workshops and retreats across the country. This year, I'm
- 12:59Speaker 2: teaching IT and the Omega Institute, both of those on
- 13:02Speaker 2: the East coast of the US, and extraordinary places all
- 13:06Speaker 2: the way all around the world. I've taught in Costa
- 13:08Speaker 2: Rica and Italy, Mexico. I've sat with hundreds of people
- 13:11Speaker 2: in their most vulnerable and courageous moments. And what I've
- 13:14Speaker 2: learned from all of the experiences and from my own journey,
- 13:19Speaker 2: is what this show is all about. Again. Come Back
- 13:23Speaker 2: to Love airs right here on kme E T every
- 13:26Speaker 2: Thursday at one thirty Pacific, just you and me, no
- 13:30Speaker 2: guests trying to sell you anything, no quick fixes, just honest, practical,
- 13:35Speaker 2: sometimes uncomfortable, always loving conversation about what it really takes
- 13:41Speaker 2: to come back to love with yourself, with others, and
- 13:47Speaker 2: with your life. So let's get into it even more deeply.
- 13:54Speaker 2: This is the one thing that nobody tells you about heartbreak.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I want to teach this to you today, something I
- 14:01Speaker 2: wish someone had told me years ago, and something I
- 14:04Speaker 2: now consider one of the most important truths about love
- 14:07Speaker 2: and healing, and here it is. Heartbreak is not evidence
- 14:13Speaker 2: that love isn't possible for you. I'll say that again.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Heartbreak is not evidence that love isn't possible for you.
- 14:21Speaker 2: It's evidence that your heart is still trying. I know
- 14:26Speaker 2: that might sound simple, but I want you to really
- 14:29Speaker 2: sit with it for a moment, because most of us,
- 14:31Speaker 2: when we've been heard enough times, start to build a
- 14:34Speaker 2: very different story. We start to believe that heartbreak means
- 14:38Speaker 2: something about us, something's wrong, that were too much, that
- 14:41Speaker 2: were not enough, that were we didn't act well. You know,
- 14:45Speaker 2: we're bad at this. We're not good at that, you know.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And then you can go on and on, like I'm
- 14:50Speaker 2: too tall, I'm too short, I'm too fat, I'm too thin,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I'm too just too, too, too much of something. It
- 14:58Speaker 2: can sometimes reflect to us in our belief system that
- 15:01Speaker 2: we chose badly, that love is just not for us.
- 15:08Speaker 2: And that is actually a story that I believed for
- 15:10Speaker 2: a very long time. I used to believe it was
- 15:12Speaker 2: for other people but not for me. That story can
- 15:18Speaker 2: be quiet but also very corrosive. It's the real thing
- 15:24Speaker 2: standing between you and the love you want, not your past,
- 15:28Speaker 2: not your age, not the fact that you've been divorced
- 15:32Speaker 2: for however many times and for however long, and not
- 15:36Speaker 2: that the least three relationships didn't work the story. So
- 15:42Speaker 2: let me ask you something. I want you to really
- 15:44Speaker 2: listen to what comes up inside you when I ask it?
- 15:47Speaker 2: What do you believe deep down underneath all the hope
- 15:51Speaker 2: and the trying. What do you actually believe about whether
- 15:54Speaker 2: real love is possible for you? Whatever came up, that's
- 16:05Speaker 2: the work, that's the inner work. Because here's what I've
- 16:11Speaker 2: seen happen again and again in twenty years. When someone
- 16:15Speaker 2: shifts that belief, when they go from I don't think
- 16:19Speaker 2: love is really possible for me. In fact, I know
- 16:21Speaker 2: it's not. Two I'm beginning to believe it might be.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Everything changes, not just their relationships, but everything. The way
- 16:34Speaker 2: they carry themselves, the way they are in the world,
- 16:36Speaker 2: the way they make choices, the actual choices they make,
- 16:40Speaker 2: the people they attract, the way they treat themselves on
- 16:44Speaker 2: a Tuesday afternoon when nobody's watching. The love you have
- 16:49Speaker 2: with other people is always always a reflection of the
- 16:53Speaker 2: relationship you have with yourself. I know you've probably heard
- 16:57Speaker 2: that before, but today I want to say it differently.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You cannot receive love more deeply than you believe you deserve.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Let me say that again. You cannot receive love more
- 17:11Speaker 2: deeply than you than you believe you deserve to receive.
- 17:18Speaker 2: In other words, you can only take in as much
- 17:21Speaker 2: love as you feel like you deserve. So if you
- 17:24Speaker 2: feel like you deserve a little, then you take in
- 17:27Speaker 2: a little. So let that land for a moment. This
- 17:36Speaker 2: means that all the dating apps, all the first dates,
- 17:39Speaker 2: all the right swiping and the left swiping, and the
- 17:43Speaker 2: profile optimizing in the world, all of that won't bring
- 17:48Speaker 2: you what you're looking for until this shifts. Until you
- 17:55Speaker 2: do the inner work and make the inner shifts happen.
- 18:00Speaker 2: The beautiful thing, the thing that keeps me doing this
- 18:02Speaker 2: work over twenty years, is that again shift. It does shift.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I've watched it happen in a single conversation, on a retreat,
- 18:11Speaker 2: in a quiet moment, when someone finally stops arguing with
- 18:15Speaker 2: themselves and just decides to believe something different. Maybe love
- 18:20Speaker 2: is for me. That's what we're doing on this show.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Every episode, I'm going to bring you something real again,
- 18:29Speaker 2: a teaching, a practice, a truth that you can take
- 18:32Speaker 2: into your actual life, not just not just to think about,
- 18:36Speaker 2: but to actually use because this work isn't meant to
- 18:39Speaker 2: live in your head. I know you're listening, so you're
- 18:42Speaker 2: using your brain capacity. But this work is meant to
- 18:46Speaker 2: live in your body, to live in your choices, to
- 18:49Speaker 2: live inside your relationships, to live inside your heart. It's
- 18:54Speaker 2: meant to bring you home to yourself. So we're going
- 19:01Speaker 2: to do a simple practice. Stay with me now, because
- 19:05Speaker 2: this piece is the piece that I'm going to teach.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You're going to learn in this moment, and then you
- 19:12Speaker 2: can take it home and practice it. It's beautiful and
- 19:17Speaker 2: if you never tune in again for some reason, you're
- 19:21Speaker 2: going to have a practice that you can use for
- 19:23Speaker 2: the rest of your life. And I love to make
- 19:27Speaker 2: the complex simple so we don't have to think and overthink.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Just do something very simple that has the ripple effects
- 19:37Speaker 2: in the body and a profound change. It's really I
- 19:41Speaker 2: love when that happens. It's amazing, and I know you
- 19:43Speaker 2: will too. So I want to give you something again
- 19:48Speaker 2: that you can take with you, something you can do today,
- 19:51Speaker 2: right now if you want. And like I said, takes
- 19:56Speaker 2: a short amount of time, two minutes or so, maybe
- 20:00Speaker 2: a little more. And it's the foundation for everything. We're
- 20:03Speaker 2: going to explore together on the show sometime today, in
- 20:08Speaker 2: your car, in the shower, before you fall asleep, and
- 20:14Speaker 2: right now, if you can, I want to invite you
- 20:19Speaker 2: to place one hand on your heart and take one
- 20:23Speaker 2: slow breath. It's helpful to breathe in through the nose
- 20:34Speaker 2: and out through the mouth, and again in through the
- 20:41Speaker 2: nose and out to the mouth. And I want to
- 20:49Speaker 2: invite you to say these words out loud if you can,
- 20:53Speaker 2: quietly if you need to, or as loud as you
- 20:59Speaker 2: possibly can, and if you want to. Ah. I am
- 21:07Speaker 2: someone who is learning to come back to love. We're
- 21:12Speaker 2: going to start right at the beginning. Not I've arrived.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I figured this out already, because that's just like bypassing
- 21:21Speaker 2: all the things that need to be tended to, looked at, hell, loved, healed.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I want to invite all of us, whether you've done
- 21:29Speaker 2: a ton of work over the last fifty years, or
- 21:31Speaker 2: you've been steeped in psychotherapy for the last six months,
- 21:37Speaker 2: or you haven't done anything yet except kind of think
- 21:41Speaker 2: about it, all of us are beginners. Beginners. People say
- 21:47Speaker 2: beginner's mind. I say beginner's heart. I am someone who
- 21:53Speaker 2: is learning to come back to Love. Feel your hand
- 21:56Speaker 2: on your heart, feel the warmth now, and take in
- 22:03Speaker 2: that belief about yourself. What is it like to receive
- 22:07Speaker 2: that belief about yourself? Notice what comes up when you
- 22:11Speaker 2: say it. Notice if part of your resists. Notice if
- 22:16Speaker 2: part of you, even a small part, believes it. That
- 22:19Speaker 2: small part is where we begin. That small part is everything.
- 22:25Speaker 2: So I invite you to practice that. This has been
- 22:29Speaker 2: the first episode of come Back to Love on KM E. T.
- 22:32Speaker 2: And I'm so glad you were here listening with me.
- 22:36Speaker 2: If something stirred in you today, if you felt something
- 22:38Speaker 2: open or recognized yourself in what we explored, I want
- 22:42Speaker 2: you to know that you don't have to figure this
- 22:44Speaker 2: out alone. I offer a three thirty minute private conversation
